Transcript
- 0:11Hello to all the comic fans, Marvel geeks, and all the nerds
- 0:13in between. Welcome to another episode of
- 0:15the Vigilante Vibes Podcast where we talk all things Marvel
- 0:17without the toxicity that's taken up way too much time in
- 0:20each and every fandom. I'm your host, Megan Nicole, and
- 0:23today I am so very pleased to introduce a very special guest.
- 0:27Occasionally on my show I get the opportunity to interview
- 0:30excellent comic creators and today is no different.
- 0:34Please welcome Kevin Davis. Good to be here.
- 0:38Nice to meet you finally. Yeah, we've talked so much
- 0:41online, but we never actually like connected like this.
- 0:44Yeah, it's the first time. Yeah.
- 0:46So welcome. Very excited you're here.
- 0:49Glad to be here. So why don't you tell the
- 0:51audience a little bit about you? So my name is Kevin Davis and I
- 0:55have a publishing company called Kevin Sidon Entertainment.
- 1:00It's it's been in the works for about 3 years.
- 1:02That's when I started my comic journey actually was three years
- 1:05ago. I started reading comics around
- 1:092020. So I did not grow up reading
- 1:11comics, but I got into writing because I want a love
- 1:15storytelling and I want to bring back the originality and the
- 1:19creativity and just have a blast with with an imagination.
- 1:25And I want to get kids reading. I want to get people reading in
- 1:28general, from kids to adults and just have fun.
- 1:33I've been a published author for four years.
- 1:35I put my first book four years ago, but I took it down like
- 1:39last year or two years ago because I need to revamp it and
- 1:45I can I wanted to make it better.
- 1:48So that's the story about my life and now I'm in a better, I
- 1:52guess seasoned, where I can actually talk about my life and
- 1:55I should open up a bit about it and not be afraid this time
- 1:58around. And I'm a full-fledged nerd.
- 2:01I love horror, fantasy, Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Image, all of
- 2:08them. I love that you mentioned Image
- 2:11and Dark Horse and the other indie comics because it's like
- 2:14every time someone says I'm a nerd, I love all of Marvel and
- 2:17DC and I'm like, you know, there's so much more out there.
- 2:21Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
- 2:22So you said you took down your comic because you're in?
- 2:26A No, it wasn't a comic. It was.
- 2:28It's like this one novel, my worst novel.
- 2:30Oh, novel. OK, so you removed it because
- 2:33you're going to start it over because you're in a better place
- 2:35in your life. I think that's very admirable
- 2:38because I think a lot of people give the story about their lives
- 2:42and it can be seen from so many different perspectives based on
- 2:45where you're at in life and if you're over the things that's
- 2:48happened to you. So I think when I see comic book
- 2:51creators, novelists, anything, who write a story about their
- 2:53life, I always hope, like I hope you give an update later or you
- 2:58look at it differently later. So I love that you did that.
- 3:01Oh yeah. And when I first wrote it, I, I
- 3:04didn't really have the knowledge that I have today.
- 3:08And I don't think I was very closed off and I didn't really
- 3:11open up as I wanted to because I didn't really know how to.
- 3:15But now I'm like, I'm a bit more mature than I was back then.
- 3:19So I can give a better perspective of what I've went
- 3:21through and how I overcame this and that.
- 3:25Wow. So are you working on that
- 3:26currently right now? Yes, that's one of the things
- 3:29I'm working on. I work on multiple projects at
- 3:31the same time because I'm crazy. My anxiety could never,
- 3:36absolutely not. It's funny, one of my actually
- 3:41is so my novel is actually your poetry book too.
- 3:44So I've been sharing some my poetry that I write and one of
- 3:47the poems is called caps ID me dealing with anxiety.
- 3:51So that's so that's so that was actually really fun to write
- 3:55because I can actually open up about it and just be flat out
- 3:59honest. It's just been just be me.
- 4:02Oh wow, I love that so much. That's so great.
- 4:04You really do it all. Like I've been.
- 4:08Told yeah, you write a novel, you have comic books, you do
- 4:13poetry. I believe you do a newsletter
- 4:15like. A magazine newsletter or
- 4:17something? Magazine How do you do all this
- 4:20and keep sane? Well, I have, I come from a
- 4:25family of business literally 'cause all my mom is a business
- 4:29owner, my, my father's, my dad is a business owner, my sister's
- 4:32a teacher and my other sister has her own business and I come
- 4:35from a family creativity. So it was really like a fast
- 4:39pacing family. So it, I ask myself the same
- 4:45question sometimes too, but I have like so many tabs open on
- 4:50my laptop. So like, that's how I kind of
- 4:52balance things out. Other than on top of that, I
- 4:55actually have an amazing group of friends that also that works
- 4:58with me and help me be organized even better.
- 5:02Like I have a friend that does spreadsheets for me to help me
- 5:06get all the products out my head so I know what I'm doing.
- 5:09Then my comic artist, my main artist, she also organizes my
- 5:12stuff, too, to help me with, like, editing videos or coming
- 5:18up with comic ideas and just trying to find ways to get that
- 5:25balance of chaos and not just that is being overwhelmed.
- 5:31And I'm also been drunk again, catching up on sleep because
- 5:35that was time. I did not.
- 5:37I barely slept. I went to sleep.
- 5:38I was like, sleep by 5:00 in the morning.
- 5:42Yeah. Because my mind just keeps going
- 5:44and going. And I just have so many ideas I
- 5:46want to do in my head. So I try to get them down and I
- 5:50can't sleep. I just get back up and start
- 5:52working. And I got in, I had to learn to
- 5:56get to take care of my mental health because I because I won't
- 5:59be able to do this if I don't have energy or have that balance
- 6:02to tell stories or to push my company out there.
- 6:09I feel like you learning that, you know, mental health is
- 6:13wealth, especially in the creative business.
- 6:16I feel like that's something people don't really get until
- 6:18years, years later after they've like killed themselves trying to
- 6:23make it to where they want to be.
- 6:24So I feel like you finding that out so early on kind of puts you
- 6:29at an advantage in the creative field.
- 6:34Yeah, that's because that's, that's also where I started my
- 6:37magazine because my magazine, I it's a lifestyle comic culture
- 6:42horror magazine, where it's where in a magazine you get
- 6:46interviews of other creators. So I try to like market them,
- 6:49take put them out there too and show there are other creators
- 6:52like me. And so I have comic strips to
- 6:56show sneak peeks of upcoming comics, comics from me and
- 7:01articles, business articles talking about my friend Dennis
- 7:06Knight writes articles for my magazine giving advice about how
- 7:10how to, to bake into the comic industry and like the do's and
- 7:14don'ts. And then I have mental health
- 7:16articles that I write. So I try to like keep it
- 7:19balanced. So I'm psych interview comic
- 7:22mental health articles and like because I, because I want you to
- 7:26be informed, but I don't want it to be so heavy because it is a
- 7:30heavy topic to talk about. So I want you to have fun with
- 7:33the magazine, but also know that this happens, but also have fun
- 7:37reading comics at the same time. And also these these are also my
- 7:41creative friends that I've met over over over my time so far.
- 7:44That's an also the industry that you can check out.
- 7:48So if anyone wants to check out this magazine it the link will
- 7:53be in the show notes, so be sure to check that out.
- 7:56So I see you mentioned that you have some things about horror,
- 8:01and I got the opportunity to review one of your comics, Skin
- 8:07Shifter. So is horror a big thing for
- 8:11you? Yes, horror, fantasy, it's it's
- 8:13literally my strong suit of writing.
- 8:16I've I've noticed that is my strong suit of writing.
- 8:19And I my I fell in love with horror as as as I grew up more
- 8:26as I love Alien, I love Stranger things.
- 8:29I love even even Predator, I love The Conjuring, Insidious
- 8:34sentence through the Black Phone, so many different types
- 8:37of horror and science fiction fantasy.
- 8:40And then Lord of the Rings, Hobbit, I can go on all day
- 8:45about about it. But yeah, it's horror and
- 8:50fantasy is my go to a lot of time.
- 8:53Then I'm also trying to challenge my writing to get like
- 8:55comedy and drama and I kind of trying to branch out because not
- 9:00everyone likes this certain things.
- 9:02So I try to like go to different areas, like to potentially reach
- 9:05other people. That makes sense, I'm not a
- 9:10horror fan by any stretch of the imagination, I get nightmares.
- 9:14But I really did like skin shifter.
- 9:17Skin shifter. My mouth can't figure out how to
- 9:19say it and I have been struggling for like 2 weeks and
- 9:23I don't know, it broke me, but I really enjoyed it.
- 9:27What I liked the most about it was that the dialogue of the
- 9:31comic was very, very relatable. It was very modern.
- 9:35It would, it would be how I would talk to my friends, which
- 9:38you don't see very often because it's either perfect diction,
- 9:42perfect pronunciation, perfect everything.
- 9:46But then that's not how people talk, you know?
- 9:50So that's what I really liked about yours.
- 9:52Yeah, when I'm writing, I don't try to be like so fancy, like
- 9:57trying to talk like Shakespearean.
- 9:59And I'm saying I'm just going to be raw and real.
- 10:01Like that's later. How I'm building my brand is
- 10:04being raw and real and even in my in my comics.
- 10:08Because when I'm writing my comics, I try to put a message
- 10:11in there, especially about mental health and like self
- 10:14discovery. But I try to put it in a way
- 10:17where you can also entertain, be entertained, but also don't be
- 10:21like this idiot because you end up like this or was it?
- 10:27Or if you're feeling lost like this character, if you go this
- 10:30route, you'll be on a better path.
- 10:32But if you go down or this path, not so much.
- 10:36So I try to bring out like that, that rawness that we don't
- 10:42really see on meet media at all. And, and I always, I always say
- 10:48it's not that hard to be original.
- 10:50And Ski Shifter is actually based on my, not my novel Jackal
- 10:54body. It's actually a Jack is ski
- 10:56Shifter is a, my novel Jackal Body.
- 10:58So that that novel is actually out.
- 11:00It's been out for like 2 years now, I think, or a year.
- 11:03Time has flown so far as I kind of lost count.
- 11:05It all messages together it like I'll look back on Facebook
- 11:09memories. I'm like those a year ago.
- 11:11That was a few months ago. Yeah, so Skin Shifter is
- 11:15actually based on my novel Jackal Body.
- 11:18You can get that on Amazon. And and so I'm actually
- 11:23revamping the skin shift to comic because the version you
- 11:26got, it was like the man, the original Mango version of it.
- 11:30And we've happening it with the new, with my with the new
- 11:33artist, which is my main artist because he just got back in
- 11:35contact a year ago. Afterlife happened, but she was
- 11:39the reason I started to get into comics.
- 11:41But she's my very first artist. And so I mean, I'm actually, we,
- 11:47we deserve having to redesign as a graphic novel.
- 11:50So next time you get to skin shifter, you're not only have
- 11:53issue 1 again and in a new art style, you're also begin to re
- 11:56issue 2 and 3 all together. So it's going to be like 90
- 12:00pages or so, maybe more when the graphic novel comes out.
- 12:04Oh wow, that I would actually be interested in seeing.
- 12:08Because there it was. Really.
- 12:10I really was compelled to the story.
- 12:13It just kept bringing me back in and I was like, wait, that's it.
- 12:18What's going to what? I was just introduced to Jackal
- 12:21Bunny and you're just going to rudely end it?
- 12:23Not even like horror. That's.
- 12:27Crazy. Yes, I, I, I love ending on
- 12:29clefangers 'cause I want to see, I want to sink you in and get
- 12:33you interested in wanting some, but you want to know more.
- 12:35It will come out, it will come out soon, don't worry, it's
- 12:38coming. So I, I always love ending on
- 12:40clefangers. I will say it does get crazier,
- 12:45but it you won't. But it's not the type of crazy
- 12:47that's going to be giving you nightmares, I promise.
- 12:50I don't worry about me. I'll figure it out.
- 12:52It's not a big deal. But it was, it was fun.
- 12:56It was a fun read because there was twists and turns I did not
- 13:00see happening like at one point. Spoiler alert for anyone who has
- 13:07not read it yet, if you haven't, you really should.
- 13:09When everyone turns and everyone is following a certain plan.
- 13:13I was like, wait a minute. So all these characters that I
- 13:18became what I I felt comfort in because they were the starting
- 13:21ones. I was like, still never do
- 13:24anything wrong. They're amazing.
- 13:26At the end I was like what? What did he do to me?
- 13:29Why did he do that? Yeah, and The funny thing is my
- 13:35inspiration behind Jacob Bunny is that if you've done a Netflix
- 13:38movie, the babysitter when a when a group of friends make a
- 13:42deal with the devil and stuff. Yeah, that was one of my
- 13:46inspirations. Pants skin shifter and split.
- 13:49And I really love alter ego type of stories.
- 13:52I do too and it's in. I think this is part of like one
- 13:57of my most fond. I've been writing Jacob Bunny.
- 14:01And if you actually read the novel version, you're actually
- 14:05read, if you read the novel, you're actually will see issue
- 14:081-2 and three if you read the novel version.
- 14:12But even the novel ends on the cliffhanger.
- 14:14So I would say that because there will be a Jacob Bunny
- 14:18sequel novel as well, that would be 4-5 and six in comic form.
- 14:25So yeah, you can actually get the full Flash story of issue
- 14:281-2 and three in the novel version before that comic, the
- 14:31graphic novel comes out. So wow.
- 14:34Well, so have you, have you been to conventions or anything with
- 14:39your novel and your comics? Haven't started yet?
- 14:43Started yet? That would be really fun.
- 14:46I would really love to see that that have your own stand with a
- 14:49Jackal Bunny cut out. That would be amazing.
- 14:52Yeah, a lot of people have been asking me, have I gone to, have
- 14:55I been going to conventions yet? I'm saying not yet.
- 14:57I'm literally just started out not long ago and I'm still
- 15:02learning about all these conventions.
- 15:04I'm like, I only knew about like the San Diego New York Comic
- 15:06Con. I didn't even know about the
- 15:07smaller conventions like Baltimore or Michigan.
- 15:10Or oh, they're smaller like there's.
- 15:12So like, there's so many conventions I'm just learning
- 15:15about. I was like, and then even in my
- 15:18city, I didn't even know about conventions that go here.
- 15:20So I was like, I got to start out my local city first, watch
- 15:24I'm anywhere else. Yeah, they have them everywhere.
- 15:27Like they're like in our Expo center where I used to.
- 15:30I just moved where I used to live where they had like little
- 15:35neighborhood dog shows and stuff.
- 15:36They have them there. It's like they're so small, but
- 15:40it shows you the community of the nerds of where you live
- 15:43because you're like, you look around, you're like, where have
- 15:46all of you been? Who are you people?
- 15:49I had no idea. I live around other nerds.
- 15:51So yeah, you should definitely at least a small one.
- 15:54Get your feet wet. That would be so fun.
- 15:57Yeah. And I will say that real there
- 15:59are plushies in the works. So there is a Jack of Bunny
- 16:03plushy coming soon. Yeah, I have multiple plushies
- 16:09on the way. That's that's in the words
- 16:11coming soon from Jack of Bunny to Arch Fire and to upcoming
- 16:16Mother upcoming comics. So I'm expanding my business
- 16:18into that atmosphere and and also potentially 3D printed
- 16:23action figures maybe down the road.
- 16:26That's still until we determined thing 'cause I'm not, I'm like,
- 16:30I'm not really. I was hesitant about plushies,
- 16:32but action figures has a whole different medium.
- 16:34I was like, we'll see. We'll we'll see about especially
- 16:40if I somehow get a demand of like you want to actually figure
- 16:43out this character or these characters.
- 16:45It's like I'll think about it you.
- 16:48See, you already have all the merch for the conventions, you
- 16:51just got to pull that trigger. Yeah, and I, I designed my own
- 16:55clothing too, so I already got like the merchandise, everything
- 16:58to go. So I'm like, I will make my way
- 17:02to conventions. I just have to figure out how to
- 17:03do it and research how to how to sign up for stuff.
- 17:06But when I start going, I'm going as a fan because I don't
- 17:09want, I don't want to work. I just want to just nerd out and
- 17:13just cosplay, but also have my branding on me so people still
- 17:17see that I do have, I have my own brand, but when I first
- 17:20started, when I first started going, I'm going out to fan for
- 17:22a little while and like to survey the area to see how it
- 17:25is, how it's set up. I was like, I'm gonna get a
- 17:28table. But right now I just want to be
- 17:30a nerd and just have fun. Just now I don't want to be.
- 17:32I'm not a business owner at the moment, but I technically still
- 17:35am because you have, I have, I'm branding on me.
- 17:37Yeah. But I'm not working at table.
- 17:39Today, so just go get some stickers made, take them with
- 17:44you and every person you talk to, give them a sticker.
- 17:47That's what I did with my with our podcast.
- 17:50So it's still fun. You can still be a nerd.
- 17:54You get to know people. It's very fun.
- 17:56But then when you go with your own booth, you're still a fan.
- 18:00It's fun. You bring someone with you, you
- 18:04give each other breaks so you can walk the circuit and you get
- 18:07to get to know fans and also have a candy bowl.
- 18:11But I know it sounds funny, but I know it sounds funny.
- 18:15But anyone with a kid will stop at your booth if they have a
- 18:19bowl of candy because they just want to get through the whole
- 18:21thing. They don't want to have to buy
- 18:23their kids something. And they say, oh, lollipops, I
- 18:26promise you will get way more people because that's me.
- 18:29I, I don't care what you're selling.
- 18:32I don't care what you're doing at a con.
- 18:34If you have a candy bowl, I will at least hear you out because
- 18:39you're giving me a service with that lollipop because I'm
- 18:42telling. You.
- 18:43That was from anyone listening right now does not have to pay
- 18:47for that tip. That was a free one.
- 18:50Oh yeah. Oh yeah.
- 18:52So you mentioned some things that give you your inspiration
- 18:56like Stranger Things, which I am so far down the rabbit hole
- 18:59right now. Like it's unhealthy, but what
- 19:03are some other things that inspired you?
- 19:06Scooby-doo, as you can see behind me.
- 19:08I didn't even notice. Like scooby-doo.
- 19:12See I grew up with all the Scooby Doo's from the original
- 19:15to where it is now. Power Power Rangers.
- 19:21I'm a huge Disney kid. The Lion King, toy store, Toy
- 19:27Story, Moana, Snow White, Tangled, Raponzel.
- 19:36That's the name Raponzel, Cinderella, literally everything
- 19:41Disney I watch. I I still go back and we watch
- 19:45them now just because I was like, if, if I when I need a
- 19:48break from horror, I go to Disney at Pixar or go to or go
- 19:51to Warner Brothers for scooby-doo and just have a
- 19:54blast. And then while I'm watching, I'm
- 19:56also getting inspired for pictures to story that I want to
- 19:58do. So scooby-doo, I'm actually
- 20:02creating a comedy mystery of my own with the talking animal.
- 20:07I'm not just going to be a doll. I don't know what it's going to
- 20:10be yet, but it's in the works that I'm working on and I'm
- 20:15working on it. Like get into comedy and drama.
- 20:19Like like drama was like Bridgeton.
- 20:21I I went and got into. I tried with Bridgeton, it was
- 20:26soft. I couldn't do it's, I don't like
- 20:29romance. So like the whole time I was
- 20:33like, it's going to pick up soon.
- 20:34It has to. Then I was like on the third
- 20:36season I was like, yeah, screw this.
- 20:37That's ridiculous. Yeah, it's not for everyone.
- 20:41I I wash it all the way through so I might get inspiration.
- 20:46Like how can I use that comes up, comes up concept, but make
- 20:49it better and not boring. So yes, I actually do watch the
- 20:53whole thing. Even though it was boring, I'm
- 20:54still going to watch it. Yes, 'cause I'm getting inspired
- 20:56to do my own thing. What was Adam Sandler?
- 21:04A huge Adam Sandler fan. Happy Gilmore, Happy Gilmore 2
- 21:08grown-ups, Jack and Jill, Hotel Transylvania, all of everything.
- 21:15Adam Sandler a huge fan. A huge fan of The Rock
- 21:22especially. Especially see him as a man, how
- 21:24he balances his family and business.
- 21:26That's like dude, you running everywhere.
- 21:28I'm like 1 post of you saying you're in Mexico, next post
- 21:31you're in Spain, next one my next post your family.
- 21:33I was like dude, how the crap do you balance that?
- 21:36I don't. Think any of these people
- 21:39actually sleep? Because sometimes I'll see a
- 21:42celebrity. They're just bouncing around the
- 21:44world and like I am so tired reading this Instagram post
- 21:47There's no way. Oh yeah.
- 21:49Oh yeah, and The Rock has been one of my big inspirations
- 21:54'cause he bounced out his companies and everything he do.
- 21:58And I still see him with the Smashing Machine.
- 22:00That looks great. And I love he's going back to
- 22:03his rooms of actually acting and not being himself in his movies.
- 22:10Looks like now that's the I'm like, that's the right Johnson,
- 22:12that's not The Rock, that's the right in the Smashing machine.
- 22:15But we need that guy back. He's finally back.
- 22:18I've heard, I've heard great things about the movie, but I'm
- 22:20a huge UFC fan, like an unhealthy huge UFC fan.
- 22:25So when I saw it, they were making, I was like, Oh my God,
- 22:28this is it. My life is complete.
- 22:30And then they said it was The Rock in it.
- 22:32And I was like, oh, why? Why did you do that?
- 22:35But it does. See the aesthetic of film.
- 22:37But then I saw the trailer, yeah.
- 22:40And I was like, Oh my gosh, it's not the same character that's in
- 22:43like 8 different movies. Thank God.
- 22:47When I saw the behind the scenes, I was like, that's The
- 22:49Rock. Yeah, right.
- 22:52No, I'm like that's Dwayne. That's not The Rock.
- 22:55That is freaking Dwayne the actor.
- 22:57Not The Rock the action star. That's the rain, the actor.
- 23:01Thank God. I was like, dude, and then I
- 23:04looked at him sets and looked at him side to side with the guy
- 23:08he's playing. I'm like holy smokes you got the
- 23:10entire aesthetic of a dude Like what in the world?
- 23:14He's a white man. Like it's, it is so much 'cause
- 23:19when I first saw the trailer, I like was like, I guess Dwayne's
- 23:22not in this. And I was like, Oh my God,
- 23:24that's him. He was crazy.
- 23:27But like, I saw so many bad reviews about it.
- 23:31Not that I care 'cause like some of my favorite movies have been
- 23:34just flops. Technically not in my heart,
- 23:39but. Yeah, I don't.
- 23:40I don't listen to people's views a lot of time.
- 23:43No Rotten Tomatoes like. Yeah, screw them.
- 23:46But but they don't Yeah, I don't care for Rotten Tomatoes,
- 23:50especially when Superman came out.
- 23:53I saw the I was I was on a trip when Superman came out and I was
- 23:57in I was in Indianapolis when it came out.
- 23:59I got to I got to sit on at Max. That's the first movie I got to
- 24:02see on at Max and I got read the reviews and you were like so
- 24:08much hate to my Henry Carrel was better.
- 24:10And then I'm saying that this I mean this Superman, the new one
- 24:16is like more accurate comic eyes and I see others like no, Henry
- 24:20Carrel was accurate, more accurate.
- 24:22And I'm like, how the hell did one movie freaking divide both
- 24:25randoms talking about this? I've never read the comic, so I
- 24:30don't know. So I just I just legit looked at
- 24:33my phone. I was like you say here, he's
- 24:35accurate. You say David's accurate.
- 24:37I was like, Zach sucks. Well, you just I was sitting on
- 24:40Zach's ball. So I was like, OK, now you get
- 24:42disrespectful. Jesus Christ.
- 24:44So someone who has read the comics, David Corn Sweat is
- 24:49basically right off the page. Henry Cavill's, while he does
- 24:53make a good Superman, like he has the look, he has the stature
- 24:57for it, the script was not Superman.
- 25:00Superman is all about hope and, you know, happiness and
- 25:04vibrancy. And what Zack Snyder did was not
- 25:09it. He tried his but I like the
- 25:11Snyder movies, but it it's like they're variants of the actual
- 25:16characters. And then you had Gal Gadot, who
- 25:19just can't act her way out of a paper bag, but she looked like
- 25:23Wonder Woman. And it it's just, it was so
- 25:26weird. It was a weird time to be a fan.
- 25:28I'm a fan of Gal Gadot, but I hated her in Snow White.
- 25:32That whole movie was a mess. I didn't watch it.
- 25:35I I hate I movie. Was a mess Gal Gadot is like she
- 25:40that felt forced, especially with her singing and.
- 25:43She sang. Yeah, yeah, She used to eat
- 25:46McQueen. So even the acting it was, it
- 25:49was overdramatic. Not in not in a good way.
- 25:53Rachel has a beautiful singing voice.
- 25:55But yeah then that movie it didn't work.
- 25:58The dwarf was horrible that I'm like y'all should've got actual
- 26:01people that actually play this part and not hide this tall
- 26:04actors to make crappy CGI that was.
- 26:06Yeah, Thanks a lot, Peter Dinklage.
- 26:09Right, and I was like, dude, I am seriously wasting two hours
- 26:13watching this movie right now and I'm going to bloody to my
- 26:15sister. Don't watch this movie.
- 26:16It was like go watch the original, go watch the which is
- 26:20no like this. I don't know what the hell they
- 26:22did with this thing. Well, the main actress, Rachel,
- 26:26she doesn't even like the original.
- 26:28It's like. Yeah, what are you doing here?
- 26:31Sounds like when I when I saw the post on her Instagram.
- 26:34I'm saying why the hell are you making this movie a political
- 26:37statement that's going to turn people off and not even care to
- 26:41see a freaking movie? Yeah, and also why are you
- 26:43hating on the original? Were literally the entire fan
- 26:46base of Disney are who probably wanted to support you or now if
- 26:51they not support you. I was like sweetie you need to
- 26:57help. You need help with marketing.
- 27:00Yeah, her PR people probably with themselves on fire because
- 27:04first of all, Snow White was the first animated movie of Disney.
- 27:08Even if it's scared you, even if you weren't a fan, you have to
- 27:12have that respect because the people who are going to watch
- 27:14her movie are fans of the original no matter what.
- 27:20And I didn't see the movie because I cannot stand her.
- 27:23She has a beautiful singing voice.
- 27:25She's not a bad actress, but it's her.
- 27:27She just. She just very cocky.
- 27:30Yeah, she's just very cocky. It's so weird.
- 27:32Like when she said, oh, it's weird that a Prince was stalking
- 27:38Snow White. And it's like, ma'am, I'm sorry.
- 27:40She wasn't. He wasn't stalking.
- 27:43What? What is going on here?
- 27:44Wait, why are you so? I don't know why people are so
- 27:47obsessed with being different, like reinventing the wheel.
- 27:52I just want it, you know, I like the live action Disney.
- 27:55I just wanted a live action Disney movie, you know?
- 27:58Yeah, I've seen every single last live action.
- 28:01So they when they brought him out.
- 28:04I dislike Lion King, the live action.
- 28:07It didn't it didn't hit me like the like the original dude,
- 28:10except with Foster's delts. That hit me off.
- 28:12That hit me off. It feels every time.
- 28:14Oh wow. The kids are great.
- 28:17I just felt Beyoncé didn't. She does.
- 28:19She didn't have the spirit of Nala.
- 28:22Beyoncé didn't have a. Spirit.
- 28:24Yeah, and they I'm like, dude, I still got someone who can
- 28:28actually want act and have that tenacity as Nala and that Donald
- 28:34Glover about. I think he was pretty OK, but I
- 28:38think he was a bit too laid back with the singing.
- 28:41I didn't really feel the soul in singing singing, if that makes
- 28:45sense. But I liked him over to Beyoncé.
- 28:48So I'm like, dude, fantastic actor, fantastic musician and
- 28:53producer. My favorite live action so far
- 28:56is Aladdin 'cause I think that was like.
- 28:58Such a good one. More in tune to the original,
- 29:02even paying homage to robbery rooms.
- 29:06I liked Little Mermaid, but I feel like they if they wanted to
- 29:09have a African American mermaid, they should have did a different
- 29:13story and actually did an original story with a a new
- 29:16character. That's just my opinion.
- 29:21You know, I still I love Holly Bailey, but I just feel like
- 29:23that the way they did that it went the wrong way, as I really
- 29:28think they should have done a a original story and did something
- 29:32else with The Little Mermaid live action.
- 29:34If that's just that's my, that's my point point of view on it.
- 29:37Yeah, I can see your point. Personally, I think, you know,
- 29:41it's a fictional story, so it's like her color has nothing to do
- 29:45with the story. So like, do whatever you guys
- 29:49want. Just all I asked was for she has
- 29:53to have the voice. She has to have a beautiful
- 29:55singing voice. And they did they she, Holly
- 29:58brought that. And that's when I was like, you
- 30:00know, I don't care if you're purple.
- 30:02I really don't care at all. That's what I wanted and I got
- 30:05it and I'm good. When that movie came out, I've
- 30:07seen all these comments. Some are woke this and woke
- 30:10that. I was like, it's a fictional
- 30:12character, it's not real. It was grown men online
- 30:18complaining about it. They said not my mermaid.
- 30:21I'm saying it's not a freaking real person or a real thing.
- 30:25Well, I. Was like you need to tell me you
- 30:26grown ass man online. You guys are mad about a mermaid
- 30:30Princess? No, you weren't going to see the
- 30:32movie anyways. Right.
- 30:36I'm Jake. I'm like, dude, are you all
- 30:38seriously that freaking upset about a fictional character that
- 30:42doesn't exist? By the way?
- 30:45It's a full flash fantasy musical.
- 30:50I'm like, brah, what the hell? I'm saying you're like 50-60
- 30:55something year old in a nursing home probably or something
- 30:58wearing a having a fit over a 20 year old girl playing.
- 31:06When I tell you I have a blast reading comics, not comics
- 31:10rookie about the comics a minute comments on certain movies and
- 31:15that's TV shows and I just look at it and I'm like I'm excited
- 31:19to see it because you hate it. That's later I want.
- 31:21To go find it. Yeah, that's what that was my
- 31:25whole vibe when they said that Jonathan Majors was going to be
- 31:30Kang and everyone's like, not everyone, but you know, the
- 31:33people were like, I can't believe they got a black guy to
- 31:36play. And it's like I was like, oh,
- 31:38I'm missing pack and watch. I'm excited because.
- 31:40And I'm like. Kang is purple I'm.
- 31:43Like Kang is purple. Yeah, like out of all
- 31:45characters, he has so many different looks in the comics.
- 31:50It. Does this is the hell you want
- 31:52to die on? Is it?
- 31:53Really, when I've heard about this multiverse thing about the
- 31:57character Kang, I was like, who the hell is Kang and why is it a
- 31:59multiverse? And I researched it.
- 32:02I'm like, oh hell. I was like, Jesus, this dude is
- 32:06old and he spreads like wildfire.
- 32:09I see. And then and I love how to
- 32:13introduce him in Loki as to. Victor Timely.
- 32:16Victor, Victor Timely. Yeah, the second scene, yeah.
- 32:19Second season, yeah. Yeah, that's black.
- 32:24Oh my God, that was the best Marvel show.
- 32:25Oh my God, I love that show, man.
- 32:29Then look and then the ending of Loki and I understand what what
- 32:33Loki going into what he meant, what he was becoming until
- 32:35someone explained what he's becoming the God of stories.
- 32:38I was like, oh, and then they seem to the comic or where that
- 32:41where that goes and say, oh, now it makes sense.
- 32:46OK. And then he's back for Doomsday.
- 32:50I was like, that makes sense that he's back for Doomsday
- 32:52'cause he is the God of stories. So he has to protect the
- 32:54timeline. I guess.
- 32:56I don't know how how it fully goes, 'cause I didn't read.
- 32:59I didn't. I actually didn't read the full
- 33:01story of the God of God of stories just yet, sounds like.
- 33:05He looks after everything he is. He sees the multiverse, he sees
- 33:11the timelines. He keeps track of everything so
- 33:14it only makes sense that he will be in the movie.
- 33:18And if we all realize a few weeks ago they kind they very
- 33:22slightly rebranded The Avengers Doomsday look and it looks much
- 33:26more lowly green, not doom green.
- 33:30I've noticed that so I'm like, this gives me more excited now
- 33:36because I'm like 1. I love Doctor Doom is a
- 33:39fantastic freaking character. Oh my God.
- 33:42Why did y'all shine up the grain on the movie though?
- 33:44I was like what kind of I'm like OK like I'm like is Loki leaving
- 33:47the movie? I was like what makes sense.
- 33:50He does though. Is Loki the cliffhanger at the
- 33:54end of the movie that goes into secret?
- 33:55Wars, Secret Wars. I was like, and I read the story
- 33:59of Secret Wars and I was like, OK, Secret was.
- 34:02It's a lot of story to put in one, like in one freaking movie
- 34:06I need. To make it too.
- 34:08I'm sure people haven't. I'm so stressed about that.
- 34:11And I was like, and this multiverse has only been around
- 34:14with like 445 years now since we started and it's like, but I'm
- 34:20like I feel like it's it's not enough time because I was like
- 34:23Secret Wars is a massive event and I was like 5 years time you.
- 34:28I'm like, and this multiverse wasn't as connected as the
- 34:31original Marvel Universe was. So I was like, how are y'all
- 34:34going to tie all these together at this pace?
- 34:39Well, you have to think. Because you have so many
- 34:40cliffhangers, from the Eternals to Moonlight to Miss Marvel.
- 34:43Oh, they don't want us to remember Eternals.
- 34:45They they don't want us to think about that at all.
- 34:48I still remember because it's a massive cliffhanger and still
- 34:50pisses me off. I still remember it even though
- 34:52it's four years later. I still remember it.
- 34:56It's like how like then you introduce Thanos brother?
- 34:59Apparently I was his brother in the post quiz scene.
- 35:01I was like really? That was Harry Styles character.
- 35:04I hate that they did that. I hate that they did that 'cause
- 35:07I waited for like 2 years after. I'm like, when's my boy coming
- 35:11up? And then it just never happened.
- 35:13I'm like you, tease. It's like Marvel, what the crap
- 35:17are you doing, man? And then and on the DC side, I
- 35:25was, I love what James doing and how he's playing.
- 35:29So he's not doing, he's like doing like nothing until this
- 35:32actual script that he approves of.
- 35:35I was like, thank you. Marvel is just rigging
- 35:40everything. Marvel announces a project
- 35:43before they have script, a director, everything.
- 35:47And it's like, I know people don't think that's a problem,
- 35:51but I want to remind you of Blade.
- 35:55And that's been, what, since 2019, actually, by the way.
- 36:00Yeah. And they still already developed
- 36:02hell with it. They're not going to be.
- 36:05There's nothing right at this point.
- 36:06They don't have they? Don't have a script, they don't
- 36:08have anything. Especially how white Reuters
- 36:10trolled Marvel and Deadpool prover right there was blade.
- 36:14There's always there's only been one blade and always will be 1
- 36:17blade and. Then which is a lie, which is a
- 36:20lie because there was a series of blade and no one talks about
- 36:24it. Exactly.
- 36:25No one talks about it, so there's only one blade.
- 36:27Yeah, but there there's two blades.
- 36:28But yeah, there is 2 blades, but wrestling's don't.
- 36:31It's the original and only one that we care about mostly.
- 36:35And then White Reyes looks at the camera.
- 36:37When Raci says that, I'm like, you're a troll.
- 36:39You're a freaking troll. That.
- 36:43Was yeah, Brian Reynolds works best off the shock factor.
- 36:46He really does. He really does.
- 36:48Yeah. And then DC side, not going to
- 36:54lie, I wasn't a huge fan of DC at first because one, I thought
- 36:59he was very disconnected. I didn't really know, like how
- 37:03to feel about it. But I'm a huge fan of Zack
- 37:06Snyder, especially Dawn of the Dead movie and Army of the Dead
- 37:11movies and 300 movies. And I think he's also one of my
- 37:16inspirations are like the dark side of writing when I'm like
- 37:18writing them dark. Yeah, his.
- 37:22Movies are dark, literally and secretively.
- 37:27But also the guy who wrote Hellboy movie.
- 37:31I keep mispronounce his first name.
- 37:32I was come by the last Del Toro. Oh my God, and you made me think
- 37:38about it and I thought too hard about it.
- 37:39Now what is his name? I don't want a butcher's name.
- 37:43So del Toro. I love how he how his writing,
- 37:47especially with monsters. Guillermo.
- 37:51Yeah, Guillermo del Toro. Yeah, like I thought I knew it,
- 37:54and then I was like, do you actually know it?
- 37:56And I gaslit myself there. Oh yeah, and I really love his
- 38:01writing on Monsters. So like as I can't wait to see
- 38:04his Frankenstein movie on Netflix.
- 38:05Oh my God, that looks so beautiful.
- 38:07Stunning. And he's Oscar.
- 38:11Isaac. And I also, I also write
- 38:17monsters in my comics too, that I write zombies and I create
- 38:22different types of monsters out of my head.
- 38:24And it's funny, my artist who read scripts of my heart stories
- 38:30was like, dude, your mind is crazy.
- 38:35And there's and the artist, like when he read the script, he said
- 38:38he feels the emotion, he feels the stat, the stake of the
- 38:42characters going through. And he's like, I want, I can't
- 38:45wait to draw this and I want more.
- 38:47I. Love that and.
- 38:49Yeah, I was like, for real. And then we got some of the art
- 38:53done of it and the colorist text me, he's like, dude, are you
- 38:57planning to publish this when we finish it?
- 38:59I was like, yeah, I have my publishing company.
- 39:02And he was like, dude, this is like the best thing he's ever
- 39:05seen art wise and story wise. And he said this is even better
- 39:09than The Walking Dead or anything, or anything on the
- 39:11mainstream. I'm just like what?
- 39:15I was like, OK, not not right now.
- 39:17You're trying to you're trying to gas my head up Now I see I'm
- 39:19like, especially I'm still I'm still a new creator.
- 39:21And you telling you give me this big of a compliment, like what
- 39:24in the world? And then I've gotten so many
- 39:28other compliments from other people.
- 39:29That's me. Read my writing.
- 39:31They say, dude, are you gonna make decent to movies?
- 39:33I'm like, I don't know, I'm just getting started.
- 39:37I don't freaking know, but I always make the joke sounds.
- 39:41I'm like my name might be Kevin, but I'm not Kevin Feige.
- 39:44I actually go quality over quantity.
- 39:47And I don't do a project until I actually know the story I'm
- 39:52doing and what art style I want and if it's a priority story
- 39:57that I want to do. And I push stories back because
- 40:00they're not my priority because I need more time to develop
- 40:02those characters and to the story so I won't be repetitive
- 40:06and also don't make it make sense.
- 40:07Because I'm literally working on multiple series of comics at the
- 40:11same time. So I like, I like, I'm like
- 40:14horror, fantasy comedy. I give back to you like 10
- 40:17years. So I literally go back and forth
- 40:21between like, oh, I got an idea for this one.
- 40:24Let me put it down right here. So I won't forget it then.
- 40:26So yeah. I could never.
- 40:29I can't even watch the series at the same time.
- 40:31Like, absolutely not. Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 40:35And man. And oh, and I, I'm back to DC
- 40:39with James. James is also one of my other
- 40:45inspirations too. Since you asked, that was the
- 40:47question you asked James, my other inspiration, especially,
- 40:50he's a, he's a nerd himself, dude.
- 40:54He can write. He can write his tail off.
- 40:56And the Guardians movies, Oh my God, I had a blast.
- 41:01Those linking movies. I actually had a blast with a
- 41:04new Superman. Yeah.
- 41:06Me too. I was like, I was like, I love
- 41:10both Henry and David, but this like coming out of Superman with
- 41:15David, I was like, I do feel a bit more hopeful with this man.
- 41:20But I understood Zach's version because I think the way Zach was
- 41:23trying to go is like, even in the dark times, that could be
- 41:25there could be hope, but he could have tweaked it a lot more
- 41:29to make the show more of the hope side.
- 41:31You've been too dark. I think he wanted to make it.
- 41:37I think he's a talented writer or director.
- 41:40I really do. Yeah, he's really good at
- 41:42visuals. Yeah, but I don't think that was
- 41:45it. I think he needs to do something
- 41:46where he makes up the characters instead of pulling from already
- 41:50existing. Because I think he looked at
- 41:52Superman and said, I just don't like it.
- 41:55I want to see it different. I want to add a new one.
- 41:58And it's like, you can do that with a lot of characters.
- 42:02You cannot do that with Superman.
- 42:04I am sorry, but you, you can't. It just stands for too much
- 42:09good. You cannot turn him into
- 42:12something angry and brooding. He is not Batman.
- 42:16He made Batman the comedic relief of the movie.
- 42:18It was like, Oh my God. Actually in the Justice League
- 42:23version, the 2017 version, that actually wasn't Zach, that was
- 42:27Josh Reed, who made Batman a comedic.
- 42:31Well, I mean like in the in the Justice League Snyder Cut.
- 42:36Oh, well, yeah, he was still a bit comedic, but yeah.
- 42:38Yeah. But he was still a little bit
- 42:40comedic because I think he did that because like the fan
- 42:44backlash, somebody should be a little bit lighter and yadda,
- 42:46yadda, yadda. So I think that's what he tried
- 42:48to link to and I was like, who gives a fuck what these cry
- 42:52babies talk about? Like they they're going to
- 42:56complain regardless of what you do.
- 42:58So I'm like, just go. I'm like, just stick to what the
- 43:00character is. Just think just what you think
- 43:04will make a good movie. Just stick to that.
- 43:06Don't lean this way. Don't lean that way what you, as
- 43:10the person who holds responsibility for these
- 43:12characters, think is best for the characters.
- 43:14And I think Zach was like, no, I'm not doing that, which is
- 43:20fine. It's whatever.
- 43:21Yeah, it happens. So we are nearing the end.
- 43:26This went by super, super fast actually.
