- 0:00Speaker 1: Joining me on the line right now is well, somebody
- 0:02Speaker 1: I know very well, a friend of mine, but I
- 0:05Speaker 1: don't know exactly what the situation is. Sylvia joins me
- 0:09Speaker 1: right now. Good morning, Sylvia, Good morning Katie, Sylvia.
- 0:13Speaker 2: What's going on? I understand you're out at Howard Springs
- 0:16Speaker 2: at the moment, is that right?
- 0:18Speaker 3: That's right. Basically, we went to Adelaide to go to
- 0:24Speaker 3: my father in law's funeral. We couldn't go in because
- 0:27Speaker 3: they obviously went into lockdown halfway through our flight. They
- 0:30Speaker 3: threw us into a hotel for one night, which is
- 0:32Speaker 3: an isolation hotel. We come back to Darwin, and now
- 0:35Speaker 3: Darwin has thrown us into how It Springs for three days.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Why.
- 0:40Speaker 3: The first thing about this is my husband's father is
- 0:43Speaker 3: getting buried today at midday, and we can't even be
- 0:47Speaker 3: at home with his son mourning the loss and toasting
- 0:52Speaker 3: his life because we're stuck here in separate rooms, so
- 0:55Speaker 3: it can't even be in the same room together. And basically, now, well,
- 1:00Speaker 3: we don't even have the option for isolation at home
- 1:03Speaker 3: because they only offered that in the city as a
- 1:05Speaker 3: trial period, and because we live rural, we don't have
- 1:08Speaker 3: that option. So I think the other government needs to
- 1:11Speaker 3: get their act together and have some compassion in the
- 1:15Speaker 3: way that they deal with people, because this is just ridiculous.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Sylvia. Just let me make this really clear in my
- 1:21Speaker 1: head and also for our listeners. So essentially, you and
- 1:23Speaker 1: your partner, you and your husband went away to attend
- 1:27Speaker 1: your father in law's funeral. You got to South Australia,
- 1:31Speaker 1: but you were told basically that you wouldn't be able
- 1:34Speaker 1: to go or that that wasn't going to be able
- 1:37Speaker 1: to happen, So they put you into a hotel quarantine
- 1:40Speaker 1: in South Australia and you came back.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 1:44Speaker 3: Yes, we're both double vaccinated. We were one night in isolation.
- 1:48Speaker 3: We got a negative test on that. But the NT
- 1:52Speaker 3: government aren't even recognizing that they're treating us like we
- 1:55Speaker 3: being fourteen days in isolation and they're treating us as
- 1:58Speaker 3: day one here, so we won't be able to here
- 2:00Speaker 3: until Sunday or Monday. This is bizarre, I realize that.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, but also bloody heartbreaking for you guys, and that
- 2:10Speaker 1: you've not been able to go to the funeral and
- 2:13Speaker 1: now your son's at home and you're not actually able to,
- 2:18Speaker 1: you know, to pay your respects and comfort each other
- 2:21Speaker 1: as as you'd hope.
- 2:22Speaker 3: To exactly it is being streamed. We're lucky enough we
- 2:26Speaker 3: there's that, but it's a bit hard when Brian can't
- 2:30Speaker 3: give your son Logan a hug and tell them everything's okay.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Sylvia, I look, this is quite unbelievable, given the fact
- 2:38Speaker 1: that you didn't actually like you've gone straight into isolation
- 2:42Speaker 1: and then you've come straight back. So essentially, you know,
- 2:46Speaker 1: and you've come from the Northern Territory, you're double vaccinated.
- 2:49Speaker 1: I can't understand why they've actually got you in Howard
- 2:51Speaker 1: Springs right now.
- 2:53Speaker 3: No, we couldn't understand it either. We expected when we
- 2:56Speaker 3: got off the plane that we just go on our
- 2:58Speaker 3: merry ways go home, and you know, sadly we're mister funeral,
- 3:02Speaker 3: but at least we'd have each other and our family
- 3:05Speaker 3: around us.
- 3:06Speaker 1: And then so you've been taken out there to Howard Springs,
- 3:10Speaker 1: you don't have the ability to be able to home
- 3:12Speaker 1: quarantine because at this point in time, people in the
- 3:15Speaker 1: rural area aren't able to even if you live on
- 3:17Speaker 1: a big block for the four G reason and various
- 3:21Speaker 1: other reasons that have been given to us.
- 3:23Speaker 2: But look, Sylvia. I don't know how much it will.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Help by us by us sort of raising it, but
- 3:30Speaker 1: what I can say is that we'd be happy to
- 3:32Speaker 1: pass your details on to the Health Minister's office and
- 3:35Speaker 1: see if there is some way that this can be
- 3:37Speaker 1: looked into, because it seems absolutely bizarre that you're out
- 3:41Speaker 1: there at Howard Springs.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:44Speaker 3: I appreciate that, Katie. I don't expect anything will happen.
- 3:47Speaker 3: It'll just be another red tape bonanza for the anti
- 3:50Speaker 3: government because really, at the end of the day, we're
- 3:54Speaker 3: just numbers. Yeah, not people were numbers, but.
- 3:57Speaker 1: You know, I reckon people are starting to really think
- 3:59Speaker 1: to themselves, so, well, hang on a second, I've been
- 4:01Speaker 1: double vaccinated.
- 4:03Speaker 2: You know, I'm trying to do the right thing here.
- 4:05Speaker 2: You know, why is it? Why am I being treated
- 4:08Speaker 2: like this?
- 4:09Speaker 3: Exactly? It makes you wonder why you bother even getting vaccinated.
- 4:14Speaker 3: It's meant to give us our freedom, that's what they're
- 4:16Speaker 3: telling us. I'm hearing it and seeing it on television.
- 4:19Speaker 3: They're telling us, get vaccinated so you've got the freedom
- 4:22Speaker 3: to travel. Guess what, I just lost all my freedom
- 4:26Speaker 3: for a four day period. I'm feeling our cannibal elected
- 4:30Speaker 3: with a bowler at the moment.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Well, Sylvia, please keep us in the loop as to
- 4:35Speaker 1: how things go. Our love to you and your family
- 4:39Speaker 1: under what is a really difficult situation.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Yes, I certainly will, Katie, thank you very much taking
- 4:48Speaker 3: the time. And I really hope no one else in
- 4:50Speaker 3: the territory has to go through this, and that's the
- 4:53Speaker 3: reason I've contact you guys, because I don't want anyone
- 4:56Speaker 3: else to have to go through this sort of heartbreak.
- 4:58Speaker 1: No, that is if absent aolutely fair enough Sylvia, thank you,
- 5:02Speaker 1: We will leave it there because we've got a few
- 5:04Speaker 1: other callers on the line.
- 5:05Speaker 2: Thanks so much for having a chat with us this morning.
