Latest / Bible Chat Devotional / January 13 - When Being Bold Feels Risky
Transcript
- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, January 13th.
- 0:11When being bold feels risky, there are moments when doing the
- 0:14right thing feels like stepping onto thin ice.
- 0:17You know what you believe, you know what God is asking of you.
- 0:21But saying it out loud, living it openly, or standing firm in
- 0:24it can feel risky. You wonder what it might cost
- 0:27you. Friendships, reputation,
- 0:29opportunities, or acceptance. In those moments, staying quiet
- 0:33feels safer than being bold. Jesus understood that tension.
- 0:37In Matthew chapter 10, verse 16, He tells his followers, Behold,
- 0:41I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves.
- 0:44So be wise as serpents and innocent as doves.
- 0:47That's not a comforting image. Sheep are vulnerable.
- 0:50Wolves are aggressive. Jesus doesn't pretend the world
- 0:54will always be welcoming to faith.
- 0:56Instead, he calls his followers to live with wisdom and purity,
- 0:59clear conviction without cruelty, courage without
- 1:02compromise. A few verses later, Jesus says
- 1:05something even more honest. In Matthew chapter 10, verse 22,
- 1:09he says, And you will be hated by all for my name's sake, but
- 1:13the one who endures to the end will be saved.
- 1:16That's not about chasing conflict or attention.
- 1:19It's about understanding that faithfulness sometimes brings
- 1:22resistance. Choosing Jesus may not always
- 1:25make you popular, but it will always make you secure in Him.
- 1:29Proverbs chapter 3, verse 34 gives us a steady anchor in the
- 1:32middle of that pressure toward the scorners He is scornful, but
- 1:36to the humble He gives favor. God isn't impressed by mockery,
- 1:40pride, or arrogance. He draws close to humility.
- 1:43When you choose to depend on Him instead of protecting your
- 1:46image, His favor rests on you. Humility isn't weakness.
- 1:50It's strength rooted in trust. Being bold for Jesus doesn't
- 1:54mean being loud or argumentative.
- 1:56Sometimes the boldest thing you can do is quietly live with
- 1:59integrity when everyone else cuts corners.
- 2:02Sometimes it's choosing kindness when sarcasm would earn laughs.
- 2:06Sometimes it's standing firm in your values when compromise
- 2:09would be easier. God sees every one of those
- 2:12choices. Yes, boldness can feel risky,
- 2:15but you're never alone in it. Jesus doesn't send you out
- 2:18without His presence. He walks with you, strengthens
- 2:22you, and promises that endurance has eternal value.
- 2:25When you choose faith over fear and humility over approval,
- 2:28you're standing in a favor that lasts far longer than people's
- 2:31opinions. Let's pray.
- 2:34Heavenly Father, you know how hard it can feel to stand for
- 2:37you when the pressure is real. Give me courage when boldness
- 2:40feels risky, and wisdom to live with both truth and love.
- 2:44Help me choose humility over pride and your approval over
- 2:47people's opinions. Strengthen me to endure.
- 2:50Trust you fully and remain faithful no matter what comes in
- 2:53Jesus name, Amen. What if the ache you feel for
- 2:57more is actually God calling you deeper?

- 4:17Proverbs Chapter 3 verse 34 World English Bible.
- 4:21Surely he mocks the mockers, but he gives grace to the humble.
- 4:24Matthew chapter 10 World English Bible He called to himself his
- 4:2812 disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits
- 4:32to cast them out and to heal every disease and every
- 4:35sickness. Now the names of the 12 apostles
- 4:38are these, the first Simon who is called Peter, Andrew, his
- 4:42brother James the son of Zebedee, John his brother
- 4:45Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew the tax collector, James
- 4:49the son of Alphaeus, Lebius who is also called Thaddeus, Simon
- 4:53the Zealot and Judas Iscariot who also betrayed him.
- 4:57Jesus sent these 12 out and commanded them saying don't go
- 5:00among the Gentiles and don't enter into any city of the
- 5:03Samaritans, rather go to the lost sheep of the House of
- 5:07Israel. As you go, preach saying the
- 5:09Kingdom of heaven is at hand, heal the sick, cleanse the
- 5:12lepers and cast out demons freely.
- 5:14You received, so freely give. Don't take any gold, silver or
- 5:18brass in your money belts. Take no bag for your journey,
- 5:21neither 2 coats nor sandals nor staff, for the laborer is worthy
- 5:25of his food. Into whatever city or village
- 5:28you enter, find out who in it is worthy and stay there until you
- 5:31go on. As you enter into the household,
- 5:34greet it. If the household is worthy, let
- 5:37your peace come on it, but if it isn't worthy, let your peace
- 5:40return to you. Whoever doesn't receive you or
- 5:42hear your words. As you go out of that house or
- 5:45that city, shake the dust off your feet.
- 5:47Most certainly, I tell you, it will be more tolerable for the
- 5:50land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the Day of Judgment than for
- 5:53that city. Behold, I send you out as sheep
- 5:56among wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents
- 5:59and harmless as doves, but beware of men, for they will
- 6:02deliver you up to councils, and in their synagogues.
- 6:05They will scourge you, yes, and you will be brought before
- 6:08governors and kings for my sake, for a testimony to them and to
- 6:12the nations. But when they deliver you up,
- 6:14don't be anxious how or what you will say, for it will be given
- 6:17you in that hour what you will say.
- 6:19For it is not you who speak, but the spirit of your father who
- 6:22speaks in you. Brother will deliver up brother
- 6:25to death, and the Father his child.
- 6:27Children will rise up against parents and cause them to be put
- 6:30to death. You will be hated by all men for
- 6:33my name's sake, but he who endures to the end will be
- 6:36saved. But when they persecute you in
- 6:38the city, flee into the next. For most certainly, I tell you,
- 6:42you will not have gone through the cities of Israel until the
- 6:45Son of Man has come. A disciple is not above his
- 6:48teacher, nor a servant above his Lord.
- 6:51It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher and
- 6:54the servant like his Lord. If they have called the master
- 6:57of the house Beelzebul, how much more those of his household.
- 7:01Therefore don't be afraid of them, for there is nothing
- 7:03covered that will not be revealed or hidden that will not
- 7:06be known. What I tell you in the darkness,
- 7:08speak in the light, and what you hear whispered in the ear
- 7:12proclaim on the housetops. Don't be afraid of those who
- 7:15kill the body but are not able to kill the soul.
- 7:18Rather fear him who is able to destroy both soul and body.
- 7:21In Gehenna, aren't 2 sparrows sold for an Asarian coin?
- 7:25Not one of them falls to the ground apart from your father's
- 7:27will, but the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
- 7:31Therefore, don't be afraid. You are of more value than many
- 7:34sparrows. Everyone, therefore, who
- 7:36confesses me before men, I will also confess him before my
- 7:39Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies me before
- 7:43men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven.
- 7:47Don't think that I came to send peace on the earth.
- 7:49I didn't come to send peace, but a sword, for I came to set a man
- 7:53at odds against his father, and a daughter against her mother,
- 7:56and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
- 7:59A man's foes will be those of his own household.
- 8:02He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of
- 8:05me, and he who loves son or daughter more than me isn't
- 8:08worthy of me. He who doesn't take his cross
- 8:11and follow after me isn't worthy of me.
- 8:13He who seeks his life will lose it, and he who loses his life
- 8:16for my sake will find it. He who receives you receives me,
- 8:20and he who receives me receives him who sent me.
- 8:23He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet will receive a
- 8:26prophet's reward. He who receives A righteous man
- 8:29in the name of a righteous man will receive a righteous man's
- 8:32reward. Whoever gives one of these
- 8:34little ones just a cup of cold water to drink in the name of a
- 8:37disciple, most certainly I tell you, he will in no way lose his
- 8:41reward. Thanks for joining us on Bible
