- 0:21Speaker 1: Our thanks to T-Bob for joining us at set one.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It is our pleasure to bring on Bomani Jones here.
- 0:26Speaker 1: The right time with Bomani Jones, wherever you get your podcasts.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It's fantastic. I felt like you were patronizing me by saying, Hey,
- 0:33Speaker 1: look at your jets right before we started here. Jets
- 0:35Speaker 1: got to win. Yeah, they got to win.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I wasn't patronizing them.
- 0:39Speaker 2: I was saying that they got to win. Now, don't
- 0:42Speaker 2: get me wrong. I don't think that that was quite
- 0:44Speaker 2: the positive reflection of the Tennessee Titans.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Right?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Like, two things may be, you know, the same at once,
- 0:51Speaker 2: but I... I think that Gino was a much better
- 0:55Speaker 2: quarterback than it looked like he was last year. Under circumstances,
- 0:58Speaker 2: I don't think anybody could have been successful. And I'm
- 1:01Speaker 2: not saying that Gino's going to be a great quarterback
- 1:04Speaker 2: for them, but I think they have a good quarterback,
- 1:06Speaker 2: and I can't tell you the last time they had
- 1:08Speaker 2: a simply good quarterback.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Right. Yes, well, they had one. He just won a
- 1:11Speaker 1: Super Bowl in Seattle.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah, well, no, but he wasn't good when you had him.
- 1:17Speaker 2: He wasn't even that good with Seattle.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Well, Geno wasn't good when we had him, then went
- 1:21Speaker 1: to Seattle and came back a better quarterback.
- 1:23Speaker 2: That's correct. That's what I'm saying, man. Sam Darnold, when
- 1:26Speaker 2: you guys had him, people who knocked the Jets for
- 1:29Speaker 2: letting him go, I'm like, were you here? Were you
- 1:31Speaker 2: watching this? Do you remember how long ago that was?
- 1:33Speaker 1: Yes, yeah, he was bad. It's interesting. Is it fair
- 1:37Speaker 1: to ask, just because we're on that game, is it
- 1:39Speaker 1: fair to ask whether or not Cam Ward is good? Yes.
- 1:44Speaker 2: From what I could tell the advanced numbers people, the
- 1:47Speaker 2: case for him being good was not good. The numbers
- 1:52Speaker 2: were really bad. Now, we've seen guys turn that around.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Jerry Goff, for example, had rookie year numbers that were
- 1:58Speaker 2: positively damning. and he has become a good NFL quarterback.
- 2:03Speaker 2: It is possible that Cam Ward can be a good
- 2:06Speaker 2: NFL quarterback because he's also in an abjectly terrible situation.
- 2:11Speaker 2: But it is possible that part of why the situation
- 2:13Speaker 2: is bad is because he's bad. That's on the board.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah, it's interesting. Bomani, Justin Herbert is a guy that
- 2:19Speaker 1: I've been ripping for years. I am tired of people
- 2:21Speaker 1: telling me how great Justin Herbert is. I am tired
- 2:24Speaker 1: of people making excuses for Justin Herbert. He's out of
- 2:28Speaker 1: excuses now. Mike McDaniels is offensive coordinator. Jim Harbaugh is
- 2:32Speaker 1: his head coach. He needs to be better. I'm not
- 2:35Speaker 1: certain he's that good.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I am curious as to why the excuses are
- 2:40Speaker 2: so prevalent from so many people.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Right.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I don't quite get that with him. I don't know
- 2:46Speaker 2: what it is that people find to be uniquely endearing.
- 2:49Speaker 2: He is physically talented, but you go look at what
- 2:52Speaker 2: he's done. He's been pretty good in the NFL. It's
- 2:57Speaker 2: not simply a criticism of what Herbert has done in
- 3:01Speaker 2: the postseason. So like Lamar Jackson, for example, the only
- 3:04Speaker 2: room there is to truly criticize him is what you
- 3:06Speaker 2: believe he has not done in the postseason. But in
- 3:10Speaker 2: the regular season, he's truly one of the greatest quarterbacks
- 3:12Speaker 2: of all time. Three-time first-team All-Pro. He's going to walk
- 3:15Speaker 2: into the Hall of Fame. That's not Justin Herbert. So,
- 3:19Speaker 2: with a okay, I guess, regular season resume or performance
- 3:23Speaker 2: plus being terrible in the playoffs, I don't see why
- 3:26Speaker 2: anybody would expend any capital on the idea that he
- 3:30Speaker 2: is good. I think part of what happens is sometimes
- 3:32Speaker 2: you look up and you don't realize how old somebody is. Like,
- 3:36Speaker 2: This is year seven. Yes.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Okay. Right.
- 3:39Speaker 2: We've already ended Tua's career.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Yep.
- 3:42Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts has been to two Super Bowls. These are
- 3:45Speaker 2: guys from your same draft.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Yes.
- 3:47Speaker 2: What have you done other than look bad in the playoffs? Right.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Well, look good while looking bad in the playoffs, just
- 3:52Speaker 1: from a physical standpoint.
- 3:54Speaker 3: If you were starting a team, would you start with,
- 3:57Speaker 3: and your two options were Justin Herbert and Jackson Dart,
- 4:00Speaker 3: who would you choose there?
- 4:01Speaker 2: Wow. oh, buddy, I don't like you putting me in
- 4:05Speaker 2: this position. I have to say, he looked really good
- 4:12Speaker 2: on Sunday night.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Yes, he did.
- 4:15Speaker 2: If all I have to work with is what I
- 4:18Speaker 2: saw in that game, then I guess we're going with
- 4:22Speaker 2: Jackson Dart. The only thing about it is, and this
- 4:27Speaker 2: is very important, I've talked about this with Jackson Dart
- 4:29Speaker 2: and Skedaddle, If either of them were my children, like,
- 4:35Speaker 2: when we went out, I'd make them wear helmets.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yes.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Like, I mean, like, when they were, like, little bitty kids. Right.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Because them boys, I don't think, I don't feel like
- 4:44Speaker 2: they think things through. No. And I just don't know
- 4:47Speaker 2: if that's how I want to feel about my quarterback. Right.
- 4:49Speaker 1: The last thing those two should be doing before a
- 4:52Speaker 1: game is butting helmets together.
- 4:53Speaker 4: Yes.
- 4:54Speaker 2: Let me tell you the last thing those two should
- 4:56Speaker 2: be doing. Hanging out with each other. Wow. That's the
- 5:00Speaker 2: big one. If you got one of them, I guess
- 5:01Speaker 2: it's fine. You can't have them both.
- 5:04Speaker 1: Taylor, put it on the poll. That's who got $ 7.
- 5:06Speaker 4: 98.
- 5:06Speaker 1: Should Jackson Dart and Cam Scataboo be hanging out with
- 5:11Speaker 1: one another? Yeah, I think you're right about that. It
- 5:15Speaker 1: is so funny. By the way, I'm guessing you would
- 5:17Speaker 1: take Jackson Dart over some other big names. Dart or Stafford? Hey,
- 5:22Speaker 1: I'll tell you this, though.
- 5:28Speaker 2: I worry about the Rams.
- 5:29Speaker 1: So do I. Yes.
- 5:30Speaker 2: I feel like that stupid Australia game could mess up
- 5:33Speaker 2: your whole season. Yeah.
- 5:34Speaker 1: It's a tough trip.
- 5:35Speaker 2: I mean, they're coming back, and Miles Garrett needs knee surgery. Yep.
- 5:38Speaker 2: You couldn't possibly bet on either of those teams that
- 5:40Speaker 2: played in that game this week, can you? No.
- 5:43Speaker 1: No.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Like, coming off that super long flight, you couldn't possibly
- 5:46Speaker 2: do that.
- 5:47Speaker 1: No.
- 5:48Speaker 2: Stafford was already, like, open for some level of regression. Like,
- 5:51Speaker 2: he's just not going to be as good as he
- 5:52Speaker 2: was last year. That's not how things typically tend to go. Like.
- 5:57Speaker 2: My buddy Plasky wrote a column about them going undefeated,
- 5:59Speaker 2: and people had them being the best team in the NFC.
- 6:02Speaker 2: What if everything swung on the NFL being greedy and
- 6:05Speaker 2: making them go play that game over there in Australia?
- 6:09Speaker 1: Bomani, you tend not to get too excited, too amped
- 6:13Speaker 1: up for games, but you're a huge college football fan,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and I am wondering where you're at in terms of
- 6:19Speaker 1: Mississippi and LSU. Is this something– Is this something you're
- 6:21Speaker 1: going to be fired up for? You're excited for this game, right?
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm looking forward to this. There's something to be
- 6:29Speaker 2: said about the energy that comes from a place where 60,000,
- 6:35Speaker 2: 70,000 people have one thing in common, and that's that
- 6:39Speaker 2: they despise a person worthy of of being despised. Right? Like,
- 6:47Speaker 2: when it's a bunch of people and they hate somebody,
- 6:49Speaker 2: but ain't nothing wrong with that person, that feels uncomfortable, right?
- 6:53Speaker 2: This right here feels like life. Like, it feels like
- 6:57Speaker 2: the reasons that we get up in the morning, what
- 7:00Speaker 2: it's supposed to be. Like, this is, it is going
- 7:03Speaker 2: to be cracking in there. The problem, the problem, the
- 7:07Speaker 2: problem is we all got rules in our lives.
- 7:11Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 7:12Speaker 2: I can't think of who Ole Miss would have to
- 7:16Speaker 2: play against for me to root for them. I went
- 7:18Speaker 2: down there. I interviewed Trinidad Chambliss. I talked to his
- 7:21Speaker 2: whole family. I like them a lot. I talked to
- 7:23Speaker 2: his previous college coach. Those are all great people. So
- 7:26Speaker 2: I will not root against him. But ain't no way
- 7:30Speaker 2: in H-E double hockey sticks that you're going to find
- 7:33Speaker 2: me out here rooting for Ole Miss. I don't know
- 7:36Speaker 2: who they would have to play against. I'm off the
- 7:40Speaker 2: top of my head. I just can't. Think of it
- 7:43Speaker 2: like no Americans. Like if they was playing against apartheid, yeah, okay,
- 7:46Speaker 2: got you. You can do that.
- 7:50Speaker 1: That's it, huh? That's where you took it.
- 7:51Speaker 2: That's about it.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Because if there was ever a spot where you would
- 7:55Speaker 1: root for Ole Miss, it would be this weekend, right? Yeah, look,
- 7:59Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 8:00Speaker 2: In this day and time, people get mad at stuff.
- 8:02Speaker 2: But as I got a line, if I root, if blank,
- 8:05Speaker 2: if this team here played against blank, I'd root for
- 8:08Speaker 2: a 0-0 tie. You could put a lot of things
- 8:10Speaker 2: in that blank, and I'd let it go.
- 8:13Speaker 3: Stu, just a quick note. Ole Miss didn't ban Confederate
- 8:17Speaker 3: flags in 1997. They banned sticks. To try to get
- 8:20Speaker 3: people to stop bringing.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Them into the game. Yeah, but to be fair to
- 8:24Speaker 2: Ole Miss, Ole Miss wanted to ban the flags, but
- 8:28Speaker 2: the people just weren't going for it. And so they
- 8:31Speaker 2: had to run an end around on them. And Taylor,
- 8:34Speaker 2: who was the head coach at Ole Miss when they
- 8:37Speaker 2: did this?
- 8:40Speaker 1: I don't know. He's looking it up.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Wow, Tommy Tuberville. I should have been able to guess
- 8:44Speaker 3: it was Tommy Tuberville.
- 8:45Speaker 1: We should have seen it coming.
- 8:46Speaker 2: Whatever it takes to win these games, as long as
- 8:49Speaker 2: it's not throwing the ball. That was Tommy Tuberville.
- 8:51Speaker 1: When you think back, how did we not see his future? Tuberville.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I mean, he's a U guy. That's the other thing.
- 8:59Speaker 2: He's a U guy. Yep.
- 9:13Speaker 1: What'd you make of Arch Manning apologizing over his reaction
- 9:17Speaker 1: to the Holly Rowe AI video?
- 9:19Speaker 2: You know what? Here's my thing. He should have apologized.
- 9:22Speaker 2: What he said was wrong. What he said was crazy.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:26Speaker 2: And it's the kind of thing that you say when
- 9:29Speaker 2: you're 21, right? Like I can't, I think there's room
- 9:33Speaker 2: to absolutely acknowledge that it was wrong and to say
- 9:36Speaker 2: why it was wrong and to say how wrong it
- 9:38Speaker 2: was with also understanding that At 21, I might have
- 9:42Speaker 2: been dumb enough to think that it was funny enough
- 9:45Speaker 2: to laugh at in front of people, too. This is
- 9:48Speaker 2: how we learn. Yes. Right. Yes.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Except we're not the Texas quarterback, nor are we Manning's,
- 9:52Speaker 1: you know, I mean.
- 9:53Speaker 2: No, no. But I mean, but anywhere we went, I
- 9:55Speaker 2: think all of us had mistakes that we made as
- 9:58Speaker 2: men of that age from just being. kind of being
- 10:00Speaker 2: young and stupid and then had to be like, hey,
- 10:03Speaker 2: we can't joke like that no more.
- 10:05Speaker 4: Especially in a room full of grown men who are
- 10:07Speaker 4: also laughing about it, that are asking about it.
- 10:10Speaker 2: Right, this is what I'm saying. Yeah, like it was–
- 10:16Speaker 2: he made a mistake. Guess what? He's at that age
- 10:19Speaker 2: where they do those kinds of things. People make mistakes
- 10:22Speaker 2: at that age. You chastise them. Again, I think chastising
- 10:25Speaker 2: him was perfectly appropriate. And then we move on. That's
- 10:28Speaker 2: not something I would take as a reflection of who
- 10:30Speaker 2: he is, other than a reflection of him being a
- 10:33Speaker 2: stupid 21-year-old.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Do you think Dabo will be— two questions on the coaching front.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Do you think Norvell returns to Florida State? Do you
- 10:40Speaker 1: think Dabo returns to Clemson?
- 10:42Speaker 2: I think Norvell is cooked. I don't think there's any
- 10:43Speaker 2: way he can come back, but they sure keep finding
- 10:46Speaker 2: ways to do that now, don't they? Dabo, the issue
- 10:50Speaker 2: is the money. I don't see any way that school
- 10:54Speaker 2: could come up with the money that it would cost
- 10:56Speaker 2: to get him out of there. But it's over. Each
- 10:59Speaker 2: of them needs to part ways. The problem is Dabo
- 11:02Speaker 2: is young enough and still wants to coach. But to
- 11:07Speaker 2: coach the way that he wants to coach, he's going
- 11:10Speaker 2: to need to drop down a whole lot of levels
- 11:13Speaker 2: to do this the way that he wants to do it.
- 11:17Speaker 2: But I actually have a great deal of respect for
- 11:20Speaker 2: what he wants to do. The way that he wants
- 11:23Speaker 2: to do this to invest in guys and keep them
- 11:25Speaker 2: and build that sort of thing. These are all the
- 11:27Speaker 2: things that people say. All the things that people say
- 11:29Speaker 2: they care about in college football. And every single one
- 11:31Speaker 2: of those people who say they love that are telling
- 11:33Speaker 2: Dabo how he needs to do it different.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Right?
- 11:36Speaker 2: Like there's a measure of hypocrisy there. But if that's
- 11:40Speaker 2: how he wants to do it, then he needs to
- 11:41Speaker 2: maybe go down to high school or perhaps the 1AA
- 11:44Speaker 2: level or at some mid-major, like group of five, that's
- 11:50Speaker 2: at the top level of their conference. And then he
- 11:53Speaker 2: can do it like that. But he can't do it
- 11:55Speaker 2: the way that Clemson wants to do it. It's not possible.
- 11:58Speaker 4: There's no path back for Dabo if he loses to
- 12:00Speaker 4: Belichick this weekend. No, I mean, there's no path back, period.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Because the issue is not the Belichick part. The issue
- 12:07Speaker 4: is 2016 and 2018.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Right. That's his problem.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Yes.
- 12:12Speaker 2: You showed them what was possible. Now, I will say this.
- 12:16Speaker 2: Because they stomped Carolina last year, right? It wasn't like
- 12:19Speaker 2: 30 to nothing or something at one point. Everyone did. Yeah,
- 12:21Speaker 2: it was bad. Yeah. I can't imagine what it's like
- 12:26Speaker 2: for Bill Belichick to live in a world where he
- 12:28Speaker 2: loses games to guys like Dabo Swinney. I just can't
- 12:32Speaker 2: think of how humbling that has to be.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Didn't he lose to Sonny Dykes once?
- 12:37Speaker 2: I mean, but all of them, man, like every single
- 12:41Speaker 2: one of them. And look, man, it's on the board
- 12:44Speaker 2: that Carolina can be pretty good this year. Yes.
- 12:47Speaker 1: It's on the board. What are your thoughts on Dan
- 12:51Speaker 1: Lanning as a coach? Because for me, he's the most
- 12:54Speaker 1: overrated coach in America. He really is.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Well, I think the question comes down to, Just how
- 13:01Speaker 2: good of a job do you think Oregon is? Because
- 13:07Speaker 2: on their side, obviously, is they can throw a lot
- 13:09Speaker 2: of money around. Working against them is geography. But historically,
- 13:14Speaker 2: we've seen that Oregon can be very good. Washington can
- 13:17Speaker 2: be very good. You can do it over there, but
- 13:19Speaker 2: it's not as easy to do in some other places.
- 13:22Speaker 2: I think Lanning may be one of those cases where
- 13:26Speaker 2: what makes him seem overrated is that he's so good
- 13:29Speaker 2: that he made that team something where you could think
- 13:32Speaker 2: that he's overrated.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:34Speaker 2: You know what I mean? Yes. Like, like he, he
- 13:36Speaker 2: gets them to places that Oregon is not promised to go.
- 13:39Speaker 2: And even if you say, yeah, they've had other coaches
- 13:41Speaker 2: who have done it. Not all of them have. Right.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Like they're not, they can't all do that in the
- 13:46Speaker 2: way he wants to play football, which is a very
- 13:49Speaker 2: sec lineup and beat them up sort of game. It's
- 13:51Speaker 2: kind of hard to do it, Oregon. And I don't
- 13:53Speaker 2: think they're always equipped to do that. Like it looked
- 13:55Speaker 2: like they couldn't even get that done. against Oklahoma State.
- 13:59Speaker 2: But I think what's happening to them this year is
- 14:02Speaker 2: something that will probably happen to all the programs at
- 14:05Speaker 2: some point in a way that didn't happen in the past,
- 14:06Speaker 2: which is sometimes you just get a bad mix. Like
- 14:09Speaker 2: you put that team back together. Like we saw that
- 14:10Speaker 2: with Calipari at Kentucky. Like sometimes you're putting these teams
- 14:14Speaker 2: together one year at a time. Sometimes you ain't got
- 14:16Speaker 2: the right mix. And maybe they, I mean, this is
- 14:18Speaker 2: two straight games. Like the Boise State game, that game
- 14:21Speaker 2: shouldn't have been that close if they're as good as
- 14:22Speaker 2: people said they were. And they certainly shouldn't have lost
- 14:25Speaker 2: to Oklahoma State.
- 14:27Speaker 1: I was thinking about you as Ted Cruz was strolling
- 14:30Speaker 1: on to the set of College Game Day. I was
- 14:35Speaker 1: thinking about the person I would want to be in
- 14:37Speaker 1: a room with as that was happening, and that person
- 14:39Speaker 1: was you. What were your thoughts as that was going down?
- 14:43Speaker 2: So here's the question. Did they book Ted Cruz, or
- 14:48Speaker 2: did Ted Cruz book himself?
- 14:50Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Because the thing that I find most incredible about Ted
- 14:55Speaker 2: Cruz is is that he is roundly disliked even by
- 14:59Speaker 2: people on his side, yet has continued to win popularity
- 15:02Speaker 2: contests in order to get to where he is. He
- 15:05Speaker 2: won enough popularity contests to get to where he is.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I don't really understand it. Look, as somebody who has
- 15:12Speaker 2: no shortage of people in this world who dislike him,
- 15:18Speaker 2: I am amazed at Ted Cruz's ability to just get
- 15:21Speaker 2: throatily booed And just keep it trucking because it happens
- 15:29Speaker 2: all the time. This is just how he expects people
- 15:31Speaker 2: to receive him.
- 15:36Speaker 3: But, Monty, on the topic of people not liking other people,
- 15:40Speaker 3: Deshaun Watson in Cleveland, are you surprised at how 10
- 15:45Speaker 3: toes down Cleveland has been backing him when he's The
- 15:48Speaker 3: results on the field, it's not like he's Josh Allen
- 15:50Speaker 3: out there. He's one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Well, hold on. Are the fans backing him? I mean,
- 15:54Speaker 1: it seems like the coach is backing him. The team
- 15:56Speaker 1: is backing him.
- 15:57Speaker 2: The team is backing him. The fans are certainly not
- 15:59Speaker 2: backing him. All right, so let me ask you guys
- 16:04Speaker 2: a question, and whoever wants to answer is welcome to
- 16:07Speaker 2: do it. What's the most you would be willing to
- 16:12Speaker 2: pay for something and then not use it? given that
- 16:16Speaker 2: the alternative to not using it is probably going to
- 16:20Speaker 2: have the same end result as using it. Like just
- 16:24Speaker 2: to be able to tell yourself, yes, I'm not going
- 16:27Speaker 2: to use this $ 40 million thing or however much it
- 16:31Speaker 2: is that they are paying nasty D. Are you just
- 16:35Speaker 2: not going to do it? Like I get it with Haslam.
- 16:37Speaker 2: We're going to try our, I can't give up. It doesn't,
- 16:41Speaker 2: I gain nothing by giving up on this, and the
- 16:44Speaker 2: other guy isn't good. Okay? The other guy isn't good either.
- 16:50Speaker 2: The problem on one hand is the fans hate this,
- 16:54Speaker 2: and you're kind of spitting in the face of the fans, right?
- 16:57Speaker 2: These same fans who, by the way, talk themselves into
- 16:59Speaker 2: this shit on the front end, let us not forget.
- 17:01Speaker 2: So the argument is don't do this because the fans
- 17:06Speaker 2: don't like it. If that were the case, you wouldn't
- 17:09Speaker 2: even open the stadium. You wouldn't play no games if
- 17:12Speaker 2: the fans not liking it was how you made decisions.
- 17:15Speaker 2: They don't like anything you do. You stink. You just
- 17:18Speaker 2: traded the best player. You think the fans like that?
- 17:22Speaker 3: No.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Did you just make up that nickname, Nasty D? I mean,
- 17:25Speaker 1: was that just off?
- 17:26Speaker 2: Well, I was thinking about it the other day. Yeah.
- 17:29Speaker 2: And I was like, I thought about calling him D Nasty,
- 17:32Speaker 2: but I feel like that's what you say when somebody's good. Right? Like, yo, man,
- 17:35Speaker 2: like if your game is cold, boy, D Nasty was
- 17:37Speaker 2: killing them. But Nasty D, Nasty D, that conveys more
- 17:43Speaker 2: of what I'm going for here.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Yes, it does. It's amazing.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Just flipping that thing around changes everything. Now, doesn't it?
- 17:50Speaker 1: Yes. So good. The right time with Bomani Jones, wherever
- 17:53Speaker 1: you get your podcast. Last thing on the way out here.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I feel like I'm alone here, Bomani. Are you afraid
- 17:59Speaker 1: of AI? I feel like the computers are about to
- 18:01Speaker 1: kill us, and I feel like I'm alone.
- 18:03Speaker 2: I do.
- 18:03Speaker 1: No, no, you're not alone.
- 18:04Speaker 2: Thank you. This is where you're on the side of
- 18:09Speaker 2: the smart people.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Wow. Yes, I've never been there.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Just letting you know. Come on over here. We're terrified.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I read a book. Somebody came in my comments trying
- 18:16Speaker 2: to challenge this book, but I read it, and it
- 18:17Speaker 2: was compelling, and it was called If Anyone Builds It,
- 18:20Speaker 2: Everyone Will Die. wow and it's just about the idea
- 18:23Speaker 2: that if the ai reaches the point of superhuman intelligence
- 18:26Speaker 2: it's going to do us in yes and by the
- 18:28Speaker 2: way lots of simulations that people have done have made
- 18:30Speaker 2: it clear that that's what it's going to be for
- 18:33Speaker 2: some shit that we don't really need they only want
- 18:36Speaker 2: it to like make it so that they don't have
- 18:38Speaker 2: to give you a job i don't i mean we're
- 18:42Speaker 2: like i look i'm not gonna pretend like there are
- 18:43Speaker 2: no uses for it it is helpful in a lot
- 18:46Speaker 2: of ways yes but We got to call a 20
- 18:49Speaker 2: on this. You understand what I'm saying?
- 18:52Speaker 1: I would say a full time out, yes. Not a 20.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Bad news. Take your time.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right. You're right. You're right.
- 18:57Speaker 1: You're right. The complete opposite of Field of Dreams.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Yes.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:02Speaker 2: No, no. This is bad news, man. Thank you. You're
- 19:05Speaker 2: right there. Are you doing AI ads, though?
- 19:08Speaker 1: No, I'm not.
- 19:09Speaker 2: I've done a couple.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 19:10Speaker 2: I'm going to... They'd have to talk me into it. Like,
- 19:13Speaker 2: explain to me what your AI is for.
- 19:14Speaker 1: Yeah, right. I haven't done them. I'm not saying I
- 19:17Speaker 1: wouldn't do them. I'm not saying I would endorse the
- 19:21Speaker 1: people who are going to murder me. I would. But
- 19:24Speaker 1: I'm scared.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Yeah, like, tell me more about your AI.
- 19:28Speaker 3: I just love the idea that Bomani thinks that somebody's
- 19:30Speaker 3: going to be like, oh, this is the AI that's
- 19:32Speaker 3: going to kill us.
- 19:32Speaker 2: You still good? What's the check? What's the check? I
- 19:37Speaker 2: know what to listen for. Like, I'm asking, like, yeah,
- 19:40Speaker 2: I know what to....
- 19:46Speaker 1: Listen, he can't come back to haunt you. We'll all
- 19:48Speaker 1: be dead. I mean, that's it.
- 19:50Speaker 2: I haven't done an AI ad in a while, though.
- 19:52Speaker 2: I think the last AI ad I did was like,
- 19:56Speaker 2: it's something that I read resumes or something like that.
- 19:59Speaker 2: I don't feel like that's going to kill us.
- 20:00Speaker 1: No, you're fine.
- 20:01Speaker 3: I think that'll be okay.
- 20:04Speaker 1: Yes, that's okay. The Right Time with Bomani Jones, wherever
- 20:07Speaker 1: you get your podcasts. We appreciate the time as always, man.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Enjoy LSU and Mississippi this weekend. Don't root for Mississippi. Never, ever.
- 20:15Speaker 2: I appreciate it, brother. You take it easy.
