- 0:06Hello, What's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:10But what about the Fellini Film Festival?
- 0:12Fuck the Fellini Film Festival. What's your least favorite scary
- 0:16movie? The podcast where we talk about
- 0:17the good, the bad, the ugly and the absurd, and all of our
- 0:20favorite and least favorite. Scary movies because we believe
- 0:23every horror movie rightfully has its fan base.
- 0:25Even if we don't always get it. My name is Travis.
- 0:28My name is Jesse and welcome back to another.
- 0:31To be or not to be? Our monthly bonus series that is
- 0:34live, uncut, and mostly undrawn. That's right.
- 0:38And this month it was my pick. So I went and chose a little
- 0:42movie called Class of Nukem High.
- 0:45That's right. We went back to Tromoville.
- 0:47Yeah, that's right. OK.
- 0:50So before we get into any of that though, do you have any
- 0:53announcements? I honestly don't know you guys.
- 0:56I'm a disaster. I just filled my drink, my notes
- 0:59are soaked. So if you are bug Tedder budget
- 1:03tier on Patreon, that's why they look fucked.
- 1:08It might be a little bit runny. It's OK.
- 1:11Everything is fine. It was just a little spill, you.
- 1:14Know. No.
- 1:14It was half a can, OK. It was half a can.
- 1:16It was a half a can. Spill.
- 1:18It almost destroyed your computer.
- 1:20And, like, talk about a waste of a Baja blast.
- 1:25Well, we got Manny. We got Manny in the fridge.
- 1:27We'll be OK. We'll survive.
- 1:29All right, We're. Not OK.
- 1:30I'm not going to survive. It's all good, guys.
- 1:32It's all good. OK, well with that out of the
- 1:35way, let's go ahead and get into our two beer not CB episode.
- 1:39So I chose class of Dukem High and I picked this one because
- 1:45yeah, I wanted another trauma movie and you know cuz usually
- 1:50shocky fun. Well, budget.
- 1:51Good times. I mean that's the kind of vibe
- 1:54that we generally go for with to be or not to be.
- 1:56Anyway, the way I looked at it was it's, I mean we usually go
- 2:02like, well, budget. Well, cuz that's kind of the
- 2:04charm of what I like about to be.
- 2:06So here's the thing. And this is complex.
- 2:10So somebody asked how we feel about to be being owned by Fox
- 2:13and I still don't really have a good answer for it.
- 2:16I'm slightly more informed about it than I was.
- 2:18And the question was posed because I don't even know that
- 2:21they owned to be and there are several Fox properties that I
- 2:26might not necessarily agree with or subscribe to.
- 2:30But The thing is also that to be is or Fox is owned by Disney and
- 2:36Disney owns like most of media at this point.
- 2:39Yes. And that's like, it's hard.
- 2:43It's hard because I try to be like ethical in my consumption
- 2:47of anything and I try to like figure out what's important to
- 2:51me as like, you know, a person in my system of values and
- 2:54everything. But I like that to be does
- 2:57provide a platform for lower budget films.
- 3:01And also with it being a free system, it has a greater sense
- 3:07of accessibility than some streaming services.
- 3:11So basically the short answer to how do we feel about it is I
- 3:15don't, I still don't really know.
- 3:16Mixed. We hate the bad people involved
- 3:20in those things. It's just yeah.
- 3:22Yeah. And I think that's going to
- 3:24happen when you get to any multibillion dollar corporation.
- 3:27I I think about it kind of like with Nestle, because as a
- 3:31company they've done a lot of shady shit, but they also own
- 3:35like 90% of what you're going to get in the grocery store.
- 3:37And I'm not saying that it's OK and that like, Oh yeah, 100%
- 3:40support Nestle. I'm just saying like sometimes
- 3:44it isn't always super easy to like, parse out things and I
- 3:48think that. Having a platform that is
- 3:52accessible for people at least, I mean granted place of
- 3:56privilege. We do have, you know, easy
- 3:58Internet access, but like a platform that, like smaller
- 4:03movies can be on, I think that's important.
- 4:05The way I always look at things like this, I always take it back
- 4:09to the good place. And the moral of that show
- 4:13basically is it's hard to be a good person.
- 4:16It's hard to be 100% ethical with everything that you do
- 4:18because you're always unknowingly doing something to
- 4:22support people that may not have the best intentions.
- 4:25And you know, it's unfortunate sometimes because that that is
- 4:31the case with 90% of the things we consume.
- 4:33But you know, it's just it's an unfortunate reality that we have
- 4:38to kind of live with sometimes. Yeah, like it's.
- 4:43You know, and not like to like, excuse it and just say ohh,
- 4:46well, sometimes there's going to be bad people involved, which
- 4:48isn't what Travis is saying. It's more just like that.
- 4:53It's it's so it gets very hard to, like, pull those things
- 4:57apart without just completely isolating yourself.
- 5:01Yeah. And we can't dug foreset it
- 5:02because, you know, that didn't even work out for him.
- 5:05Exactly. That's what I'm thinking about
- 5:07too, because like the guy, I don't want to give away Good
- 5:09Place spoilers for people that don't.
- 5:11Yeah, I haven't seen. It go watch it.
- 5:13What the fork are you doing here?
- 5:15Yeah, because I guess it kind of goes into that topic.
- 5:19So I don't know all. Of the good places.
- 5:21Capitalism bad. Well, look, if if you want our
- 5:24detailed thoughts on this, we can give it to you like a
- 5:27separate time. But you know, here we're we're
- 5:29just trying to talk about some schwacky, stupid movies.
- 5:32Yes. So the the whole point of our
- 5:34two Beer Not to Be series is that we do like that we can
- 5:38access these. Smaller budget films that might
- 5:42not necessarily get picked up on bigger streaming platforms,
- 5:47right? That's our goal with this.
- 5:49It's not necessarily of like, oh, we're promoting one company
- 5:53or another. It's that we we want to, we want
- 5:57to find these movies that we might not have otherwise found.
- 6:00Yeah, exactly. And yeah, OK I think we've we've
- 6:04set our piece on this at this. Point it's it's still very
- 6:07complicated. I still haven't fully unraveled
- 6:08my feelings, but that's. The short version of it for
- 6:12right now, that's just again in a month.
- 6:14Yeah, we'll maybe have a better answer or maybe not.
- 6:16Maybe it'll be worse. I don't know.
- 6:18OK, whatever. Class of Nukem.
- 6:20Hi, everybody. So let's, let's go down to
- 6:23Tromaville. So this movie released December
- 6:2712th, 1986. We watched it on 2B, obviously,
- 6:31because it's 2B or not to be. Film was written by.
- 6:34OK, a lot of people, a lot of names tossed around on this
- 6:38right here. And it'll explain a lot of
- 6:42things about this movie, I think.
- 6:44But written by Richard W Haines, Mark Rudinski or Rudinski,
- 6:49actually. Lloyd Kaufman, Stuart Strutton
- 6:52and Graham Fleshner. Directed by Richard H Haines and
- 6:57Lloyd Kaufman. Music by Michael What?
- 7:00Tanzi Latanzi. Special effects by Kay Gelfman.
- 7:05Scott Coulter. George.
- 7:07George Dono. Tom Ouch.
- 7:10Louder. And Brian Quinn.
- 7:12I'm sorry, it's not that these names are hard to pronounce.
- 7:14This I fucked up with my handwriting.
- 7:16So yeah. Yeah.
- 7:18Marbles are full of mouth. Yeah, it's something like that.
- 7:21All right. I only wrote down three people
- 7:24from the cast because I feel like there's really only three
- 7:26important people in this movie, even though we have a large cast
- 7:29of characters. They just.
- 7:31Guess Did you write down Chrissy, Warren and Spike?
- 7:33Yes, exactly. So we have Janelle Brady, who
- 7:36plays Chrissy, GAIL Britton plays Warren, and Robert
- 7:39Pritchard plays Spike. Those are the three people you
- 7:42really only need to care about, because they are the only three
- 7:45people that really have any significance.
- 7:47They they pushed forward the plot.
- 7:49Yeah, Yeah, there's a Okay. Well, okay.
- 7:53So First off, the player game. Everybody's favorite game budget
- 7:58or bucked head? I'm gonna go with Bug Ted.
- 8:02Yeah, obviously this is a Bug Ted movie.
- 8:04This is Super Bug Ted. It's.
- 8:05Trauma, baby. Yeah, but I've got the actual
- 8:07budget. Okay budget is $400,000.
- 8:11Honestly. Good for them.
- 8:13Yeah, I know. It's about the same as Toxic
- 8:15Avenger, which I think they were working.
- 8:18They were working on both of these, I think, yes, at the same
- 8:21time I was. Like briefly touching on that
- 8:22when we covered Toxic Avenger and they've got a lot of
- 8:25crossover cast. Like Spike is Spike's actor Is
- 8:29Slug and Toxic Avenger, Yeah. We have the same mare.
- 8:33You also have Bozo, who plays Pete, the only Creed and with a
- 8:38normal name. No, no.
- 8:40Yeah, he's Pete. Is it Bozo and Toxic Adventure?
- 8:42Yeah, it's Bozo. He's the main dude.
- 8:45I got mixed up cuz there's Gonzo in this one.
- 8:47Yeah, yeah. Gonzo is like a whole other
- 8:49person. Yeah.
- 8:50Yeah, yeah, I got names mixed up.
- 8:52There's a lot of cool names, but they all are just they're the
- 8:55Cretans. That's it.
- 8:56That's all I haven't written down is, for the most part, is
- 8:58the Cretans. So I had it written down as the
- 9:01Honor Society for a long time until somebody directly referred
- 9:04to him as the Creeps. I do think it's funny.
- 9:06Well, they, yeah. They even have it, like, on
- 9:08their jackets. Like, they really.
- 9:10Thought it was just gonna be like a throwaway sight gag,
- 9:13Like, I don't know, like something out of rock'n'roll
- 9:15high school where, like, they used to be the Honor Society,
- 9:18and then you see them. I thought that's all that those
- 9:20people were in the movie. They they are like the main
- 9:23villains of this movie for the most part.
- 9:26All right, so I don't have a box office, I don't have a gross,
- 9:29but I do have an IMDb score and this movie is a 5.6 out of 10.
- 9:35You know what? Honestly, good for them.
- 9:37That's a lot higher than I expected it to be, honestly.
- 9:40All right, so I got 3 movies. One of them makes sense, but the
- 9:44other two I just said fuck it. These are all horror movies that
- 9:47came out in 1986 and I want to talk about them.
- 9:50So the first movie is a little movie called Witch Board.
- 9:54Yeah, that is one that Jesse and I watched for the first time
- 9:58this past year, thanks to the last drive in.
- 10:00No, no. I watched about half of it one
- 10:04night while you were asleep. We had it on shutter TV back in
- 10:07the bedroom and I was like trying to figure out what cuz I
- 10:11was in and out of sleep. But like, I heard enough of it
- 10:13that I was like, I need to watch this full movie.
- 10:16And I actually looked up what had been playing on shutter TV
- 10:19that month, like what their rotation was, and I figure I was
- 10:22able to piece it together based off of, like, what I'd heard and
- 10:26the synopsis that I wrote of the movies.
- 10:29OK, let me clarify. This is our first full watch
- 10:31because I had a similar experience where I had caught it
- 10:33on shutter TV. I was like, oh shoot, this is
- 10:35interesting, Let's actually watch this one together.
- 10:37And then Joe Bob was like, hey, I've got you guys covered, Don't
- 10:39worry. About it.
- 10:40All right, so like, here's all the details you need.
- 10:42Yeah, It's a really good movie for people that like, you know,
- 10:45just like 80s horror and paranormal horror.
- 10:47Like I feel like it's even. If you enjoy discussions of the
- 10:51Ouija, yeah, Ouija Ouija stuff or which board, I don't know.
- 10:55In the episode there was a guy that was a Ouija board expert
- 10:59expert and he he just kind of broke down the whole the whole
- 11:03business of that the whole history Okay that came out
- 11:07December 31st 1986 with a limited release.
- 11:10I think the actual at wide release was 87 but this one
- 11:13barely qualifies for 86. Budget $2,000,000 worldwide
- 11:19gross 7.3 million. IMDb score 5.7, so pretty solid
- 11:26.1. Better than class of Nukem High.
- 11:30All right, second movie. It's one that you and I watched
- 11:33like a long time ago, I think Swatter high.
- 11:38So it's the one that starts off with them getting the nerdy kid
- 11:42in the bathroom at the high school and like, humiliating him
- 11:47in front of the whole class. And then they we've seen this
- 11:52together. I believe we've seen this
- 11:53together. But The thing is like, it's a
- 11:55forgettable movie too. Because I always, I'm like, have
- 11:58we ever seen this? Whenever I see the poster and
- 12:00then I watch the trailer, I'm like, ohh shit yeah, it's that
- 12:02movie. Anyways, I came out November
- 12:0514th, 1986. Don't have a budget, don't have
- 12:08a gross. But the IMDb score is 5.3.
- 12:11OK. That one has like I feel like it
- 12:14has the trauma spirit to it also, if you are interested in
- 12:17that. I remember nothing about this
- 12:19movie. Okay.
- 12:20Well, maybe we can watch it again.
- 12:23Third movie. Aliens with an S So that
- 12:27release? Yeah, that.
- 12:28Looks the sequel to Alien. Yeah, exactly, I know.
- 12:31That's Budget Cuz. That's Cameron.
- 12:33Fuck yeah dude. Yeah, Cameron.
- 12:35Like, he blew the shit out of it.
- 12:37I mean it was a summer release too, so it was a big release.
- 12:41July 18th 1986 Budget of 18.5 million worldwide gross.
- 12:46For Cameron, that was probably more bug Ted.
- 12:48He was like, what the fuck is that?
- 12:50This is like early Cameron, right?
- 12:51Was this, this was before Terminator two?
- 12:55Yeah, Terminator two. Before the first one too.
- 12:57I think the first one was 87, something like that.
- 13:00I I don't remember either way. Budget of 18.5 million Worldwide
- 13:04Gross 131,000,000 IMDb score of 8.4.
- 13:10OK, that's fucking high. 8.4 is a really high score for a horror
- 13:14movie, especially OK3 tag lines. OK, so the first one, I feel
- 13:21like I needed to read it. Second actually, because it
- 13:23makes more sense when you read the second tag line first.
- 13:26OK, OK. So first one second, second one
- 13:29first. Yeah, OK.
- 13:29So the second tag line is they were there to warn the three R's
- 13:36and then the actual tagline with the three R's are reading,
- 13:40writing spelled with a W and radiation.
- 13:47Alright, alright, alright. And then the third one is it
- 13:49rotted their bodies, it corrupted their minds.
- 13:52And that's the good news. OK, yeah, I think those are
- 13:56pretty good. Yeah.
- 13:57Reading, writing and radiation. I think that's good for like a
- 13:59high school. That's.
- 14:00Funny, yeah. That's funny.
- 14:03OK, that's it. We don't really have fun facts.
- 14:06I did read some interesting things about this though, so I
- 14:09can say fun facts if we have. You know if you want to hear
- 14:12anything like he named it class of Newcomb High because he
- 14:17wanted people to mistake it for class of 84.
- 14:20OK, yeah. Because apparently, you know,
- 14:22that was like a really, I think that was a fairly successful
- 14:25movie that came out. Really traumatic to watch.
- 14:28It is, yeah. But it was.
- 14:29It's a solid movie. I remember watching and I liked
- 14:32it. And then they apparently had
- 14:35like a completely different story whenever it was originally
- 14:38being written. And then Lloyd Kaufman came in
- 14:40and then completely changed the story of the movie.
- 14:43So apparently the original story was about some character just
- 14:48like bringing people over to their house for dinner and I
- 14:53guess like doing shit to them when they come over for dinner.
- 14:58That's really the only premise I got.
- 15:00But then Lloyd Kaufman came in and basically retooled the
- 15:03entire thing until, like, it became what it is now.
- 15:06OK, so all right, let's go ahead and talk about this movie then.
- 15:12So, Jesse, what it what do you like about?
- 15:16It honestly, I wasn't expecting as much of A storyline as there
- 15:21actually is. I thought it was going to be a
- 15:26lot looser, kind of like how Toxic Avenger was OK.
- 15:30But I feel like there's a lot more like you feel like this is
- 15:34more cohesive. Than this.
- 15:35Yeah. See.
- 15:37I feel the opposite. I like.
- 15:39I feel like the. I don't know if cohesive is
- 15:42necessarily the right word. More of a.
- 15:48Story there's Yeah, there's more plot points to it.
- 15:51Whereas Toxic Avenger Act One is their mean to.
- 15:57Pretoxy Melvin. Melvin Yeah.
- 16:01And then act two is Toxie is a good guy.
- 16:05And then act three is maybe Toxie isn't a good guy calling
- 16:09the National Guard, except oh, he is still a good guy.
- 16:11It was all a lie. OK, yeah.
- 16:13And there's like and that's, you know, the rest that's happening
- 16:17is like. Just things going along.
- 16:20Whereas with this, it's like, OK, cool, we've got this new
- 16:24nuclear plant that's here and it's affecting people in the
- 16:27high school in various ways. And these Honor Society students
- 16:30are now selling the drugs and drugs are contaminated.
- 16:32And these two goody, goody kids are going to smoke the drugs and
- 16:35then they're going to have bad effects.
- 16:37And then she's going to have a monster baby and that monster
- 16:40baby is going to save them. When the bad kids take over the
- 16:43school and try to, you know what I mean?
- 16:44Like, there's a lot more, like, details to it.
- 16:49Well, I'll get into my part on that whenever I go into the bad.
- 16:56Alright, alright. Is that all the good you have
- 16:57for it? I mean, not like that's my main
- 17:02thing. Like, I like that.
- 17:03It was like an actual story to follow along with.
- 17:06OK, I like the premise of it. What I like the idea of, you
- 17:12know, having like this, You know, it's like taking the high
- 17:15school setting and then it's putting like an interesting
- 17:17spin, like having introducing radioactive waste into the mix.
- 17:22And then these people just start mutating and then everybody and
- 17:25the school starts acting strange, but nobody's really
- 17:27talking about it. Like, they're kind of talking
- 17:29about it, but they're not. Yeah, like they're just
- 17:31accepting it. And, you know, and you just kind
- 17:34of have like a wacky high school movie going on with this with
- 17:39horror elements too. I thought that the effects were
- 17:43pretty sweet in this really, for it being such a low budget
- 17:46movie. Yeah.
- 17:49I agree with that, I guess. I don't know.
- 17:52I guess that's about it. OK, what about the bad?
- 17:58The bad. I think this maybe could have
- 17:59been a little bit shorter for as as much as short as it is.
- 18:04Yeah, for as short as it is and as much as I feel like it's a
- 18:07more solid like. Story I I feel like there's
- 18:11still like some wasted screen time.
- 18:12And I think that's one of those things is when you've got like a
- 18:14lot of plot points to your story, it becomes really obvious
- 18:18when you've got like some of that dead air.
- 18:20Yeah. And I think also it's just
- 18:23because this movie is a little bit like it's it's meaner than
- 18:26The Toxic Avenger, you know what I mean?
- 18:29I feel like the Toxic Avenger was way more mean than this.
- 18:32Yeah, but like, it's mean, but it's like satirical, you know
- 18:35what I mean? Like you can see the the.
- 18:38The humor they were going for with in it because if that makes
- 18:41sense. Whereas like some of that's
- 18:42here, but like, you know, like you said it would have been like
- 18:45nice to see like some additional like leaning into some things.
- 18:49Yeah, you know what I mean? So that's like that's my biggest
- 18:55thing And like it's so impossible not to compare the
- 18:59two. It really is similarities.
- 19:01I mean they have like the same overall feel.
- 19:03Like, I mean they're set in the same universe too.
- 19:06It's Trauma Ville, which is cool.
- 19:08Yeah, I like that they, like had that established from the get go
- 19:10that they're all gonna be set in the same area.
- 19:13Yeah. All right.
- 19:15Well, my bad for this is I feel like it is like a it's less of a
- 19:20story to me. Like I I feel like I feel like
- 19:23they just had and that's what I was talking about whenever.
- 19:26Like I I was reading here how many people wrote this movie.
- 19:29We have 12345 names here attached as writers and that's a
- 19:33lot of people putting their input and I don't feel like you
- 19:37have a clear vision. I feel like at times it wants to
- 19:40be like a fun high school movie. At other times it wants to like
- 19:43be like Toxic Adventure and have like the bad criminals do bad
- 19:47shit. And then it also wants to be the
- 19:48Toxic Adventure when it has Warren be like a super mutant
- 19:51for a second and then he never he achieves that again.
- 19:55Yeah, we don't really get resolution on all that.
- 19:58He just, like, temporarily gets super powers and attacks the
- 20:00Cretans in one instance and then that's it.
- 20:04He's like, OK, we're. Cool.
- 20:05He's murdered some guys. Yeah, he fucking killed two
- 20:07people and like everybody is just cool, then nobody.
- 20:11He doesn't bring it up to Chrissy and like it just it's
- 20:15like it never happened. And then you also have a monster
- 20:18movie going on. Which isn't really a thing until
- 20:22the very, very end of the movie. Like, I feel like it would have
- 20:26been cool to have had like pick one of those for me.
- 20:29I think it would have been more interesting if the monster would
- 20:32have been like wreaking havoc in the school throughout and you
- 20:37know, it was more present. I really thought we were gonna
- 20:41have the monster being super protective of Chrissy and
- 20:44Warren, cuz they're mom and dad. That would have been awesome.
- 20:46I thought that's what we were gonna see.
- 20:48And then Warren had zero paternal instinct and was like,
- 20:52all right, laser beam in his ass, Yeah.
- 20:55Well, Chrissy too. I mean, she didn't go shit about
- 20:57it. The funny thing about that thing
- 21:00too I read is the reason that they didn't really have a lot
- 21:03with it. It was supposed to be more
- 21:05featured in the movie but they didn't finish it.
- 21:07So like what we see is like half of the puppet and then they also
- 21:10have like just rest of like like tentacles that you see flap
- 21:15around every now and then. So like that.
- 21:17So I don't know. I guess the Buck Ted kind of got
- 21:20the best of it in that situation.
- 21:23But I don't know like I I just feel like it.
- 21:25It never really felt like. It tied everything together.
- 21:28It just felt like a sequence of a lot of shit happening with no
- 21:33sense being made of it. And also it's like an hour and a
- 21:38half long music video because you just have like these rock
- 21:41bands playing in the soundtrack the entire time.
- 21:44It. I don't know, it was a why for
- 21:47me. Okay.
- 21:49All right. Ugly.
- 21:54I mean, I guess I'm going to have to go with like the cretins
- 21:57and their whole general. Their behavior, Yeah, knocked
- 22:05over Crown. It's OK.
- 22:06Everybody that that's just the cretins and their overall thing.
- 22:11Yeah, Yeah, OK. It's just the cretins.
- 22:16Yeah, they really do suck, man. I think the mayor and his, you
- 22:21know, he just wants to. Like he they have like at the
- 22:26very beginning of the movie, toxic waste just all over the
- 22:30school and the mayor's like, ah, don't fucking worry about it.
- 22:32Like we'll have some crews cleaning up overnight and we'll
- 22:35just keep an eye on it and everything will be fine.
- 22:37Meanwhile there's clearly, clearly guy.
- 22:40I do have marbles in my mouth today.
- 22:42There's like a lot of people that are having negative side
- 22:44effects from it. See, I wrote in my notes that
- 22:47the mayor saw Jaws and took the absolute wrong take away from
- 22:51the movie. Yeah, I guess, yeah, he saw
- 22:53that. He's like, yeah, he was like
- 22:54that. Mayor knows what he's doing.
- 22:56They had a successful weekend at the beach that day.
- 22:59They did great. Okay.
- 23:03Yeah, so absurd, I guess. Like, who the hell is Bob?
- 23:13Because sometimes he seems like he's a teacher in the school.
- 23:15Sometimes he seems like he works for the nuclear plant like.
- 23:18Sometimes he seems like he's a cop like.
- 23:20Which one was Bob? The one that various authority
- 23:23figures referred to throughout. Like the principal at one point
- 23:26was like when you get these cretins out of the school, Yeah,
- 23:31like I just. And then like, at one point he
- 23:32was like, we need to decontaminate the school.
- 23:35Like, I just felt like, and maybe I've got multiple
- 23:37characters mixed up, but like, I never really got a sense of
- 23:40where that guy belonged. OK, yeah.
- 23:45I I don't know, man. There's just so much absurd
- 23:49about this movie. It's hard to like single out a
- 23:51certain thing that stands out, I think.
- 23:56Whenever Gonzo, which is a dude that can, like, barely speak.
- 24:01Yeah, because of his mouth guard.
- 24:02Yeah, he's got like a mouth guard in.
- 24:03But then he has, like the PA announcement where he evacuates
- 24:08the entire school and he adds, like, the best radio voice ever.
- 24:11It's great. I love that.
- 24:13Yeah. Yeah, there.
- 24:14I mean, this movie is just, it's just so fucking weird, man.
- 24:18Like there's a lot going on and there's a lot of absurdity.
- 24:21But I think that's kind of what you come to expect when you go
- 24:24into a trauma movie, yeah. OK, So what do you give this out
- 24:29of 10? I think I'm gonna give a six.
- 24:33You go in six, OK? Yeah, like it was It was OK.
- 24:36It didn't. I wasn't as instantly endeared
- 24:39as I was. With Toxic Avenger.
- 24:41Yeah, yeah, I feel the same way. I was expecting to really love
- 24:45this one. And then I started watching it.
- 24:47I was like, what the fuck is happening?
- 24:48Like, I don't know. I I guess it just didn't have
- 24:50the same charm. I'm.
- 24:52I guess they're very lucky that they released Toxic Avenger
- 24:55first. Because I don't know if trauma
- 24:57would be the same if this was the movie that they went with, I
- 25:02think I'll give it like a four. Oh, wow.
- 25:05Yeah. So we're starting with an
- 25:06average of five. Yeah, I guess 5 is OK for this.
- 25:10It just, yeah, didn't really get me, didn't capture me.
- 25:13OK. All right.
- 25:15So let's talk about it. I'll do my best, my favors.
- 25:18Oh yeah, it's still drenched right now.
- 25:21OK. Well, I'll start us off.
- 25:23So we start off at the Tromaville nuclear facility,
- 25:27business as usual going on there, but then we are tracing a
- 25:32pipe and then we see that one of them bursts, alarms are
- 25:35sounding. And then we get the mayor from
- 25:38Toxic Adventure, and he's like, ah, there's no danger here,
- 25:41Don't worry about it. Yeah, because they're like, we
- 25:43need at least 48 hours to decontaminate.
- 25:46And he was like, Nope, just scrub it down, It's fine.
- 25:49Yeah. So then we cut over to
- 25:51Tromaville High School, where you see the toxic waste has
- 25:54already made its way there somehow.
- 25:56Yeah, cuz Andy Samberg goes up to a water fountain.
- 26:00Yeah, and drinks some sledge. Andy Samberg or Dewey?
- 26:03He kind of looks like Melvin, too.
- 26:07From Toxic Adventure, like you know not quite as bad.
- 26:10But like his profile, immediately I was like, that's.
- 26:13That's the nerd. I thought we were gonna get more
- 26:16of him because like, I thought he was gonna drink this waste
- 26:19and, you know, become like a mutant that we would follow.
- 26:21You would think that. But instead what happens in in
- 26:24class is they have an evacuation drill.
- 26:28And during the drill, he starts to froth up the mouth and he is
- 26:31twitching and he attacks some people.
- 26:34And then, as everybody does in Tromaville, when you have
- 26:38exposure to radiation, he throws himself through the window.
- 26:43It's like the exact same shot. And when I was watching that I
- 26:46thought I was thinking to myself, it would be hilarious if
- 26:49they just reuse the shot of the guy from Toxic Adventure.
- 26:52It's this blonde dude with a Tutu on, just jumping out the
- 26:54window. But no, he has a different faith
- 26:58than Melvin. He wins, like right on the
- 27:00pavement and then he just melts in front of everybody.
- 27:03Whereas like Melvin jumps into some toxic waste.
- 27:06He He's the. He also is coming from inside
- 27:09the house. Yeah, yeah.
- 27:10So he melts onto the sidewalk. His melting is a little bit more
- 27:13graceful, though. Like, it turns him into a
- 27:14superhero, this guy. Like, he just melts all of his
- 27:17skin off and he's just skeletons after it's.
- 27:20Yeah. So the nuclear workers come to
- 27:23the school and they're testing radiation levels.
- 27:26And the mayor is like, there's absolutely no connection between
- 27:31the incident at the school and the new nuclear facility.
- 27:35In fact, I was told that Dewey owed 2 microwaves.
- 27:40Yes, which like. I mean calling back to microwave
- 27:45massacre. Back during this time,
- 27:46microwaves were ginormous, so I think it could be alarming to
- 27:50have that many microwaves in your house.
- 27:52How rich was this kid? Then you could have two of.
- 27:55Those I know. Those things were fucking huge,
- 27:57dude. I mean, I feel like Elite is
- 28:01fucked right now. If we had two microwaves and
- 28:03they're just like $50 appliances now.
- 28:05They're not even $50 appliances now.
- 28:07Yeah, they're just you just pick them up, man.
- 28:08They were $50 last time we bought 1.
- 28:11OK. That was a long time ago.
- 28:12We haven't bought. 1A Long, long time we're we're out of touch.
- 28:17OK, so Kathy and the guy go down to a Fallout Shelter.
- 28:23OK, that's funny. So I know that the guy's name is
- 28:25Eddie. Oh, OK.
- 28:28I did not know the girl's name was Kathy.
- 28:29Yeah, OK. So they go down there to the
- 28:31Fallout Shelter to go make out and stuff and then like there's
- 28:35toxic waste stripping from a pipe and it has no effect on
- 28:38them. It has nothing like it's just
- 28:40like a shot. The movie and like, yeah, we
- 28:42need something here. Let's just have them, like,
- 28:44maybe go down there to start to have sex and then get some goop
- 28:47on them. Yeah.
- 28:49Chrissy is worried about, like, how things have been since the
- 28:53nuclear plant opened. Also, they say nuclear, the
- 28:56whole kind of drought that's maybe in a job with me.
- 28:58Baddy nuclear, nuclear. So she is, you know, talking
- 29:04about one teacher that lost all of her hair and developed cold,
- 29:07like sores all over their body. The Honor Society is now like
- 29:12violence. Yeah, like they're a violent
- 29:14gang. Pretty much, Yeah.
- 29:16Yeah, they sell drugs. Is it?
- 29:18Think of like the crew of the people from The Toxic Adventure
- 29:22that hold up the burger joint. It's like a bunch of them, yeah.
- 29:26But like, some of them are actually monsters now.
- 29:28Well, I was also gonna say class of 84.
- 29:31Yeah, I mean, I guess more like that.
- 29:33Yeah, boy, they really did kind of take notes from that movie
- 29:36right there. Another thing about this movie
- 29:38too, if you do end up watching it, pay attention to background
- 29:41actors because this is something I noticed.
- 29:45Like everybody in a scene like that's in the background is
- 29:48always doing something weird and.
- 29:51Like, they're not just behaving like normal extras.
- 29:53Like I see people like falling down and like a little fights
- 29:57happening. And then there's that one scene
- 29:58when we first introduced to the high school and everybody in the
- 30:01hallways making out like every single person is kissing.
- 30:06So it's something keep an eye on, but also pay attention to
- 30:08this nerd that they bully into buying some weed because he is
- 30:11wearing Dave England's poop cardigan.
- 30:13Yeah, he. Is it's so crazy that that thing
- 30:16like it's being made from back then?
- 30:20He doesn't poop, but he gets like, repeatedly hit in his
- 30:23growing area. Yeah, that was like, that's
- 30:26their move, the go to move here. Mmhmm.
- 30:28Yeah. They rough him up and force him
- 30:29to buy their weed. That's what the greens do.
- 30:32That's like their whole thing in this movie is they fight you and
- 30:35then like, OK and then buy our weed.
- 30:36Yeah, And they get their weed from nuclear workers.
- 30:41Nuclear, yeah. Well, I got that dude's name.
- 30:46What the fuck was this? Yeah, but he was like, why did
- 30:48you guys come here in the Bay time like?
- 30:51His name is Ron. Yeah, Ron.
- 30:52He's like super pissed off. Yeah, cuz you know, they're
- 30:55they're in the daytime and pick up weed and like you see is it
- 31:00right here that you see where like the pot plants at the
- 31:03PowerPoint are like super covered in radiation?
- 31:06Yeah, Yeah. This is the only real shot we
- 31:08get of the like garden, if you will.
- 31:11Yeah, so Frank and Eddie decide that they're going to harass
- 31:18some girls at lunchtime, but they do convince them to go to
- 31:21this college party. The theme is indoor beach party.
- 31:25And the girls look scandalized. And that's how you know they're
- 31:27high schoolers because that, like he said, indoor beach
- 31:29party. And I just kind of nodded along.
- 31:31I was like totally realistic, like for a party theme.
- 31:35Yeah, it seems like it would be like, somewhat fun, I guess.
- 31:40So they. They go talk to Warren, try and
- 31:43convince him to go, but he really wants to study.
- 31:45He's got a cram for a test He's got.
- 31:47He's actually, you know, good studious Warren.
- 31:50Yeah. And the other two, Eddie and
- 31:54Greg I think are the two of of his friends.
- 31:57Eddie and Frank OK, yeah, they're they're walking through
- 32:00the hallway trying to like, I guess convince him.
- 32:03And then they are approached by the cretins who force him to buy
- 32:09their new weed, which is a called.
- 32:12Tom McKay, yeah. And yeah, I guess because it's
- 32:16been rolled up with all the radioactive waste and shit.
- 32:19Yeah, so now they're all at the party.
- 32:22Indoor beach party. Chrissy's not really filling it
- 32:25though. They were gonna go to a Fellini
- 32:27Film Festival. Yep.
- 32:29And I don't know. They're just like, who the fuck
- 32:34is Fellini? He's an Italian film director.
- 32:37Okay, where do you know what anything has done?
- 32:39I've not personally watched anything.
- 32:40No, I did briefly like look cuz I was curious too.
- 32:43But yeah, so the the friends are very concerned about Warren and
- 32:50Christie's lack of sexing, which is just like.
- 32:53It's weird. I mean, it's the basis of every
- 32:58high school movie since the dawn of time.
- 33:01Yeah, I do think it's funny though, that they're both like
- 33:04talking to them, like I would make the move.
- 33:06They're just they're just too shy.
- 33:08The other person's too shy. I I think they're both too shy.
- 33:10But they wanted to thank the other person's.
- 33:12The problem? Yeah.
- 33:14So their friends get them to smoke the weed in the hopes that
- 33:19this is super misogynistic. They're like, maybe it'll loosen
- 33:21Chrissy up. Yeah, Not not Warren, but
- 33:25Chrissy. Yeah.
- 33:27And they're both like, that's super gross.
- 33:29Which even if it wasn't radioactive, yeah, it's fucking
- 33:32weed. It's gross.
- 33:35And they throw it on the ground and Eddie gets pretty upset
- 33:39about that. Which, yeah, that was a $10
- 33:40joint. Yeah.
- 33:43But they're like, OK, we're gonna get out of here.
- 33:45And Christy goes upstairs, but that weed is hitting her, and
- 33:48she was really horny. So they have sex upstairs while
- 33:51their friends watch. Yeah, I don't understand why.
- 33:53They're like, OK, well, we're smoking weed.
- 33:55We don't really, like, want to really be doing this.
- 33:57Let's go home. But they go upstairs instead.
- 34:01And then, yeah, they just end up starting like they start to have
- 34:04sex. Instead, they had all of the
- 34:06fear, pressure and they said yes to all of it at those party.
- 34:09I have. You know I am.
- 34:11These kids needed dare. Oh my God, they did.
- 34:14Yeah, I'm just thinking of, like, the whatever Kelvin and
- 34:18Keith were doing in righteous chimp Stones.
- 34:22Smart Busters. Oh yeah.
- 34:25Well, I'm glad you like, interrupted me, because I was
- 34:28about to spoil the end of the season if nobody has.
- 34:30Seen it? Oh, God.
- 34:31Yeah. No, no, don't do that.
- 34:32Yeah, all right, quick spoiler cover your ears if you haven't
- 34:38watched it. But I was going to say they're
- 34:39doing boyfriends and boyfriends by the end of the season, I
- 34:42think. Everybody kind of expects that
- 34:44from them. I'm just, well, a lot of people
- 34:46weren't sure if it was really going to happen by the end of
- 34:48the season. Or not.
- 34:49So I got you. All right, so they've had sex
- 34:52and now they go home and he drops off Chrissy, and then he
- 34:55goes home himself. And then they both start to have
- 34:58really fucked up nightmares, which.
- 35:01Which I firmly thought that this stuff was actually happening at
- 35:04first because of its drama. But does it though?
- 35:07Like, I feel like it kind of might, because like, they wake
- 35:09up the next day and this shit is actually happening.
- 35:12Except okay, this is the weird thing.
- 35:14So. Warren's having his dream and
- 35:17he's like having. It's almost like the
- 35:19transformation from Toxic Avenger, except instead of
- 35:22turning into the Toxic Avenger, he gets a really toxic pee pee.
- 35:25Like a giant pee pee. Well, his face melts too.
- 35:28His face melts a little bit. Yeah, but like, he like that.
- 35:31He's like happy about his because, like, it gets like all
- 35:34the way up to the ceiling. And he's smiling.
- 35:36Meanwhile, we're over with Chrissy, who is like getting
- 35:39pregnant. Yeah.
- 35:40And then a little tentacle comes out of her belly button and
- 35:43starts to just like, you know, slime around.
- 35:45Well, that's how that's how you have babies.
- 35:48That's how childbirth works. I know through the belly button.
- 35:50I did the course in high school. Yeah.
- 35:53Yeah. You just like you pull them out
- 35:54by the umbilical cord. That's why the belly Button's
- 35:56there. It's for the child's umbilical
- 35:58cord. And you just, like, pull it out.
- 35:59Yeah. And the baby comes out belly
- 36:01button first. So you like they start life with
- 36:03essentially a chest bump? I like that.
- 36:06That's cool biology, man. OK, so they wake up and realize
- 36:13that was a dream maybe. And the next day they were
- 36:15pissed because they learned that the weed came from the cretins
- 36:19and they're like, well, they could have laced that with
- 36:21anything. But I also be like Warren, did
- 36:23you do drugs without learning where they came from?
- 36:26Yeah, well, I mean, they're also feeling like shit the next day
- 36:28too, yeah? So Warren returns home.
- 36:34Anywhere he walks around the house, the electronics are
- 36:36turning on around him, which this never comes back.
- 36:41Cretins take some Alka cetzer because it's they're out on the
- 36:44sidewalk and they're trying to trick this old lady that is
- 36:47carrying groceries. So they do that.
- 36:51Spike pretends that he's foaming from the mouth, having a seizure
- 36:55or something, and then Pete goes over.
- 36:57He's like he needs something soft to chew on, like your
- 37:00handbag and the old woman. Super naive.
- 37:03It just gives them a handbag so they just run on this like
- 37:06should we call 911? And he's like, not enough time.
- 37:10Yeah, so they just take her person.
- 37:11Give us your pocketbook. Warren is super pissed off at
- 37:16them cuz he, you know, found out that it was their weed and he's
- 37:20blaming them for him feeling like shit.
- 37:22So he storms the alley where they were doing their drug
- 37:25deals. And he straight up fucks them
- 37:27up, he fucks up pee and actually kills him by shoving his hand
- 37:32down his throat. Yeah, same type of thing with
- 37:35Toxic Avenger too, where he punches him or anytime they make
- 37:38contact with his fist like they start to burn.
- 37:40I just kept thinking about that Beastie voice song.
- 37:43Looking for a fist to put your face in?
- 37:47Maybe they saw this movie. I don't know.
- 37:50And then there's the other dude that was like, I don't know what
- 37:53his role is. He was only there for this one
- 37:55scene. And like, he gets fucked up and
- 37:58killed too. Like, he just gets tossed.
- 38:00Yeah, and Spike approaches from behind.
- 38:02But one knocked out, Yeah. He just like, tosses him and he
- 38:05gets knocked out and he's spared.
- 38:07Yeah. And the other cretins are like,
- 38:10did you see who it was? He goes, no, I didn't see who it
- 38:12was. And like, did you see who it
- 38:13was? No, I didn't see who it was.
- 38:14Crazy thing is, it kind of looked like Warren.
- 38:16So you did see? So you did see?
- 38:18Yeah, you saw the back of his head at least.
- 38:20I mean, it's a good thing that this kid dies young.
- 38:22Spoiler for the end of the movie that came out 40 years ago. 30
- 38:25years ago, but like almost 40 years ago.
- 38:31Yeah, Jesus. But because he never would have,
- 38:35like obviously, this kid would have at some point landed in
- 38:38court on trial. Naturally.
- 38:40And yeah, he wouldn't have handled the cross examination.
- 38:42Like, well, The thing is, he was once smart.
- 38:45Maybe he would find his way back.
- 38:47There's hope for him, maybe, but Warren wakes up in his bed.
- 38:53He's just a cool. He was on a dream.
- 38:56What happens to the big pee pee tree?
- 38:58I like that one. Yeah, I like that one.
- 39:00Bad. Meanwhile, Chrissy is at cheer
- 39:02practice and she is in a lot of pain.
- 39:07So she goes to the bathroom where her stomach expands and
- 39:10goes back flat and expands and goes back flat.
- 39:13And then she goes to the stall to throw up and her throat is
- 39:18like kind of like a bullfrog for a minute, yeah.
- 39:21It's really freaky, dude. They do a good job with us too.
- 39:24And then she spits it out and it's like this little tadpole
- 39:29monster thing, which I guess is like the alternative.
- 39:32Root of having babies, like that's how other people do it, I
- 39:34guess. Spit it out.
- 39:36Well OK, so you know, like sometimes you can't have a belly
- 39:39button birth, you know, for whatever reason, either because
- 39:42your belly Button's not wide enough or because you had a non
- 39:46belly button birth within the last two years.
- 39:49So you have to go the alternate route which is.
- 39:52A C-section. Yeah.
- 39:53OK. OK, Cool.
- 39:55All right. Wow, man.
- 39:56I'm learning a lot today. All right, so.
- 40:00Yeah, she sees sections into the toilet and I just want.
- 40:05To say that C-section births are very valid as birthing methods.
- 40:08Whether your baby comes out through your throat or your
- 40:10belly button, you're still a mother.
- 40:12Yeah, it's doesn't make a difference.
- 40:14No, no, no judgment. So she goes to the doctor and
- 40:18the doctor straight up tells mom that she had a miscarriage.
- 40:22I'm pretty sure you're violating it, but yeah, I know, right?
- 40:26Speaking about it in the hallway.
- 40:27OK, listen, I know we're making dumb jokes aside, and granted,
- 40:32sex education in public high school in Kentucky is terrible.
- 40:35But like, we do actually know where babies come from?
- 40:37I don't. No clue.
- 40:40This doctor gets several things wrong because he's like, well,
- 40:45all the tests show that she was nine months pregnant.
- 40:48What tests? Yeah, like, what test did you
- 40:50run? And I'm sure the mother would
- 40:52have noticed something at some point.
- 40:54Also, she had sex like 48 hours ago.
- 40:56So like, I feel like there's a lot of questions there.
- 40:58But also like if she was nine months pregnant, then at that
- 41:01point, it's not a miscarriage. It's a still birth.
- 41:04Yeah, yeah, that's a whole other thing.
- 41:06Yeah. OK, this guy.
- 41:07Also, it wasn't even a still birth because the tadpole is
- 41:10still chilling in that toilet. That's true.
- 41:13Yeah. Well, this is Tromoville, I
- 41:15guess. Like, not the best medical care.
- 41:17Like, like the Tromoville. Am I right?
- 41:19Kind of, yeah. But this is like another scene
- 41:21here where I was noticing in the background, like, you got like
- 41:24nurses stumbling over each other in the hallway in the
- 41:27background, and there's just like a bunch of wild shit going
- 41:29down. Like, I don't know, like, I feel
- 41:31like there's a separate movie happening in the background of
- 41:33this one. So a girl also goes into the
- 41:38bathroom like in just like a random shot afterwards, and sees
- 41:41the baby there, and she flushes it down the toilet and it
- 41:46travels throughout the system, goes to the kitchen sink, pops
- 41:49out there for a second but it decides to pop back down, go
- 41:53through the pipes a little. Bit I would not be able to
- 41:55finish washing those dishes. No, fuck that.
- 41:58That would be terrifying, to see something like that pop out, but
- 42:01it goes down into the Fallout Shelter, which for some reason
- 42:05has like a lot of nuclear waste down there.
- 42:07Because it dripped earlier. OK, so that's what that Yeah.
- 42:11OK. That was the point of showing
- 42:12Eddie and Kathy making out down there.
- 42:14It was just to show the like, OK dripage that makes sense.
- 42:18Then, well, it drips out of the pipe, cuz it bursts out into
- 42:22like a tub of toxic waste. So that's the thing that's
- 42:27happened. Okay so.
- 42:31The Cretins are trying to force a nerd to buy a joint.
- 42:35Their prices have gone up to $20 and Warren comes in and he's had
- 42:39enough of this. So he starts fighting them.
- 42:41Except he doesn't have his mutant powers right now, so he
- 42:45gets his head dunked in a toilet.
- 42:47And then Bob, who may be a teacher slash police person,
- 42:52slash nuclear person, it's just the the Tromaville authoritative
- 42:57figure. Like that's his.
- 42:58I like that. Yeah, that's just his role.
- 43:00Yeah. He comes in.
- 43:02The Cretans are all being expelled.
- 43:04Except then they sing The Star Spangled.
- 43:08Yeah. OK, I forgot so much about this.
- 43:12There's so many good answers for, like, absurd moments in
- 43:14this movie, like this being one of them.
- 43:16So they get expelled and you're like, yeah, well, how about
- 43:18America? And then they just start singing
- 43:20the full national anthem to them.
- 43:23Yeah, and they just, like, let them do that.
- 43:26Yeah, it's the full national anthem.
- 43:27And then because we're watching this on TV, it went into a
- 43:29commercial after that. And like, we just were gonna
- 43:32like, huh? Yeah, yeah, it's just OK, OK, So
- 43:39we're at the Troumaville nuclear facility again.
- 43:41Workers are now starting to have side effects from all of the
- 43:44radiation because they're like falling to the ground and having
- 43:47like, reactions and shit. They send more workers to do
- 43:50some more radioactive like testing at the school, like a
- 43:55whole wing needs to be shut down.
- 43:57And the mayor once again is like, well, we can't do that.
- 44:00Just tell them there's structural damage and we'll work
- 44:03on it at night. Which, like, also wouldn't be
- 44:05cool to just, like, have a kid. Yeah, I know they don't.
- 44:08The thing is, this guy just doesn't give a fuck.
- 44:11And that's his character. That's just all he's ever gonna
- 44:13be. Except doesn't he die in Toxic
- 44:17Avenger? Yeah, OK, he dies in this movie
- 44:19too. So, like, does he just keep
- 44:20coming back to life just to die? I hope so.
- 44:22I really hope so too, because that's that's amazing.
- 44:27All right, So yeah, they start to close down the school and
- 44:30everything. Yeah, I have radiation levels,
- 44:33their Geiger counters going crazy.
- 44:35One of the dudes goes down into the Fallout Shelter and he
- 44:38thinks that the meter is just kind of going off the tracks
- 44:43because it's faulty or whatever. Yeah, which I could see that.
- 44:47Like I could see them being, I could see that.
- 44:49Use the shit equipment. You know, Unless you know the
- 44:52school, that's just straight up having radioactive waste, like
- 44:56rising from the soil. Like, I don't know.
- 44:59I feel like it's very obvious that there's a legit reason for
- 45:02this. Yeah, except then he drops his
- 45:04mask into a tub full of green shit and reaches This man that
- 45:10works with radiation for a living.
- 45:11Reaches his arm into an unknown substance to get his mask back.
- 45:15Yes, a hazmat. So you don't.
- 45:18He's safe. He's all good.
- 45:19Except he's not safe, because the tadpole ain't a tadpole no
- 45:24more. It's a fool on monster now.
- 45:27Yeah, and he does not let that work early.
- 45:30No, that monster actually looks pretty sweet too.
- 45:32Yeah, I was really impressed with it.
- 45:35So let's see. The Cretins have a plan to break
- 45:41into the school. Yeah.
- 45:42So they're pissed off because, like, they've lost all their
- 45:45clients because they can't force people to buy weed anymore.
- 45:49So yeah, now they're going to, like, go into the school, force
- 45:52everybody to evacuate. That way they can get revenge on
- 45:54everybody, including Warren, and just the school in general.
- 45:58Yeah, so they go into the principal's office and beat the
- 46:04information out of him as to where the.
- 46:07Evacuation alarm is. And so that goes off.
- 46:10While that's happening, they get Chrissy down into the basement
- 46:15with Spike and Teru, and so they take her necklace, get some of
- 46:20her blood on it and deliver it to Warren.
- 46:23So as everybody's evacuating, he gets his bloody necklace, so he
- 46:26runs back into the building. And this actually is really
- 46:29scary because they're down there in the basement and when the
- 46:31alarms going off, Spike says to Chrissy, like, do you hear that?
- 46:35That's the evacuation alarm. That means nobody else is in the
- 46:37school right now. Yeah, that is.
- 46:39I like the final, like, parts here because, like, they've got
- 46:42everybody out there. They've taken motorcycles to the
- 46:44place, so they're all just like, riding motorcycles throughout
- 46:47the halls, which is kind of cool.
- 46:49I was wondering, like, I feel like this had to have been like
- 46:51an abandoned school where they filmed this because like, I
- 46:53can't imagine anybody being cool with them doing this shit there.
- 46:56I like like, so there are various points where Muffy is
- 47:01like spraying the wall and as they're going like she's on the
- 47:08back of a motorcycle and she's free painting the wall and in
- 47:10some of the scenes spray paint's coming out and then some of it.
- 47:13Nothing really. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 47:17They're having a good time. They're just like fucking shit
- 47:19up, throwing shit off the top of the building, just destroying
- 47:22all the furniture, spray painting, whatever they want.
- 47:25Not to draw another comparison to Rock'n'roll High School, but
- 47:28I was thinking of drawing. Another comparison to
- 47:30Rock'n'roll High School. It definitely has like similar
- 47:33vibes to it here. Except the I was on the kids
- 47:36side in rock'n'roll high school. Yeah, this is Togar.
- 47:39Needed to learn a lesson. She did.
- 47:41She did, for sure. And if.
- 47:43It took blowing up the school and throwing Hanzel and Gretel
- 47:46out of the window. Then so be it.
- 47:49So Spike and I think Warren. OK, Warren arrives down there
- 47:56and he's going to rescue Chrissy.
- 47:59But then as he is about to do that, the guy pulls a gun and
- 48:03he's about to like cut off Chrissy's nipples.
- 48:06But before he gets a chance to do that, the monster rises from
- 48:10the tub and kills Taru and attacks Spike.
- 48:16But Spike, Chrissy and Warren all managed to get out of the
- 48:19room in time. Yeah, yeah.
- 48:22And let's see, where am I at? The mayor has arrived outside
- 48:26because, like, they're like, oh, there was a radiation leak over
- 48:29at the school. And he goes, no, this is just a
- 48:31false alarm, which it actually really was.
- 48:34Forgot to mention though, but the best kill there is the TARU
- 48:37kill because the monster straight up punches through her
- 48:39head and like the effect of that happening like the fist goes all
- 48:43the way through the other side. It looked amazing.
- 48:46It was so well done. Yeah, so like Warren and Chrissy
- 48:49are running and they're trying to hide from the other cretins
- 48:52while you know everybody outside is arguing about if this is real
- 48:55or not. And the mayor is just like
- 48:57trying to control the optics of the situation.
- 49:01All of the cretins are being killed 1 by 1 by the mutant
- 49:04spawn and it almost kills Chrissy, but Warren hits it with
- 49:09a laser. Because like, we had this random
- 49:11throwaway line where, yeah, if the lasers hit the Super
- 49:16aircharged neutrino particles or whatever the fuck they made-up,
- 49:20yeah. It'll explode, yeah.
- 49:23They were basically setting up for like an exploiting school in
- 49:26the end of this general. High school.
- 49:28I really, really wanted the monster as the like, laser hit
- 49:32it to be like, Oh my God, that would have been awesome if it
- 49:36would have done that. Yeah, we don't get anything.
- 49:39Like, there's no attachment. Like, it would have been funny
- 49:41if it was like, what if it had like a little bit of a
- 49:43resemblance from the two of them, you know?
- 49:46Yeah, like it was actually their children, little.
- 49:48Like swoopy hair. Yeah.
- 49:51But no, they just shoot it with that.
- 49:53And as they shoot it with that, the mayor runs in and he
- 49:56doesn't. We.
- 49:57Need to leave because the school's going to explode and
- 49:59he's like, you're dumb. This guy just doesn't believe
- 50:03anything. Like he's seeing a fucking
- 50:05monster right before his eyes. But he's like, I don't.
- 50:08I don't really believe it. So they run out, the school
- 50:11explodes, and then an announcement from somewhere.
- 50:15Don't know where these figures are from saying that the school
- 50:18is temporarily canceled for renovations.
- 50:21I do love that the speakers still like the sound.
- 50:24The PA system works perfectly fine after that.
- 50:27Yeah, and everybody's cheering because no school.
- 50:30Yeah, so Warren and Chrissy are like the heroes cuz they killed
- 50:33the monster and they got the kids out of school for an
- 50:35extended period of time. They're like, also in shock.
- 50:38Yeah, they're also in shock. And then we see that from the
- 50:42rubble of the building, the little monsters now went back in
- 50:45the baby form, and it's still alive.
- 50:48Yeah, I guess it's a little moment.
- 50:50Yeah, exactly. And that's the movie.
- 50:52That's how it ends you. Know what?
- 50:54I'm gonna bump it to a 6.5. Okay, I forgot.
- 50:57Like, there are some really good, humorous moments that I
- 51:00just, like, forgot about. Yeah.
- 51:02And as we talked about it, I have a better appreciation of
- 51:04those moments now. Yeah, okay, I'll make it a 5.
- 51:09It's okay. It's better.
- 51:11It's not if. I mean, I'm always going to
- 51:15choose Toxic Adventure over this, but I guess it's not
- 51:18really fair to keep comparing the two just because they're
- 51:20both trauma movies. Yeah, I think.
- 51:22I think that was part of the problem is that I went into it
- 51:25with like several movies I was ready to compare it to.
- 51:29Yeah, just it needs to be its own thing.
- 51:31It needs to be its own thing. It does have moments where it
- 51:34hits really well. Yeah, you just gotta, you gotta
- 51:37put it on and not expect to be watching anything of any, like,
- 51:42actual substance. Like it's just like a fucking
- 51:46experience. It's all I could say about it.
- 51:48Yeah. OK.
- 51:50So what's our new average? 5.75 OK, not too bad.
- 51:55Yeah. All right.
- 51:57So who did you? What would you change?
- 52:00What's one thing you would change?
- 52:03We haven't had such a point disparity in quite a while, so
- 52:05that's true. I I really think that I would
- 52:08like choose something to focus on here, like if they wanted it
- 52:12to be a thing of Warren getting revenge on the Creedence, I
- 52:16think that that would be cool. If it were a thing of the
- 52:20monster terrorizing the school, I think that that would be cool.
- 52:23If they just wanted it to be like a fun, like weird trippy
- 52:28comedy about high school where everybody's like, you know,
- 52:32affected by the radioactive waste going on, I think that
- 52:36that could be like a fun comedy too.
- 52:37But I. Would have fun with that, Yeah,
- 52:39I I think I would have fun with all of those there.
- 52:42It just needs to pick one to end.
- 52:44Stay with it. Instead, we get like a mash of
- 52:47it, trying to be several different types of movies.
- 52:49And I think that that hurts it for me.
- 52:53Like talking like Avengers. Strayed up a superhero movie at
- 52:55the end of the day. Yeah, this right here.
- 52:57It just couldn't figure out what it really wanted to be.
- 52:59Yeah. So, yeah, that's what I would
- 53:02change. All right, What was Scout's
- 53:08favorite part? Well, what do you think was
- 53:10Scout's favorite part, Travis? I think Scout's favorite part
- 53:12was he in when the little monster came out.
- 53:14Because when that happened, she looked up at me and purred
- 53:17really, really loudly. Obviously, Scout's favorite part
- 53:22is when the tadpole was swimming in the kitchen sink.
- 53:25Oh yeah. Because she does that.
- 53:27She does that. You're right, she did really
- 53:29hard to that part right there. Damn it.
- 53:31I guess she was just happy that the tadpole lived.
- 53:33She's like, I could survive an explosion too.
- 53:37If if I ever get shot by a laser, I might explode.
- 53:40But I'll make it. OK.
- 53:44Who did you relate to? I think I related to the nerd
- 53:56and the Dave England poop sweater because I would wear the
- 53:59hell out of that. Cardigan, I've said every time
- 54:02we watch Jackass, I'm like, I want that cardigan.
- 54:04I know. And it's true.
- 54:06You really do. It's.
- 54:07Yellow and it's an old man slash librarian cardigan.
- 54:10Those are two of my favorite things.
- 54:13Well, and then like seeing it here.
- 54:14And then, like in Jackass movies to this day, even in the fourth
- 54:18one, I was there. Yeah, it means that it's still
- 54:20in style. 100% if Dave England was like, yeah, no, I saw that
- 54:24in a Troma movie. I would buy that.
- 54:26Yeah. That would be awesome.
- 54:27Yeah, absolutely. Dave.
- 54:29England's a nerd. Yeah.
- 54:31Oh, totally. Yeah.
- 54:33OK Who did I relate to? God, man.
- 54:35I don't know. Everybody's super, super
- 54:37exaggerated in this movie. I.
- 54:44You gotta just pick a little thing to focus on because that's
- 54:47what I did. Yeah, I guess that's true.
- 54:50I guess I man, I don't fucking know, dude.
- 54:55Like, I guess I relate to the girl that flushed the baby and
- 54:59the thing because I didn't realize that that's like that
- 55:02was natural and that was how babies were made.
- 55:06Like, I think she never she didn't have the proper sex
- 55:09education either, because I feel.
- 55:10Like I kind of related to that too, cuz I feel like I would
- 55:12panic if I saw something like that in the Dude.
- 55:14Of course, yeah, if you see if I see anything like that in the
- 55:17toilet that is, my reaction is to just straight up wash it.
- 55:21And I won't use that toilet either, because I'm afraid it's
- 55:23gonna climb back up. That's what I'm I did with the
- 55:27shout, with the spider in the shower earlier, I was like, and
- 55:30I just like, hit it with the like, the detachable nozzle I
- 55:33was like. Get out of here.
- 55:35That's a good way to do it, man. Just wash your problems away.
- 55:39Down the drain they go okay. Well, do you have a dream sequel
- 55:44that you would want to do for this?
- 55:46There are a couple of sequels for this, and I've heard the
- 55:48newest one is really, really good.
- 55:52I guess like. Yeah, I would want to see like
- 55:56maybe a couple generations later, like the the freshman
- 56:00class from this movie, them as seniors like see how things have
- 56:03changed and progressed like, I don't know, maybe the top hole
- 56:06monster is like part of the school now.
- 56:08See, I was gonna say their. New mask lot.
- 56:10I like. I like that a lot actually, cuz
- 56:12I was, I was about to pitch like into the future.
- 56:15The little baby is now like an adult and it's now part of the
- 56:19school, which as fully embrace being radioactive now.
- 56:26And then to add to that, like say we get like a Futurama vibe
- 56:30with like the time keeps slipping episode where they have
- 56:34the mutants playing basketball against.
- 56:22So it's like a normal thing there, but I like your idea of
- 56:25it being the school mascot. Globetrotters and like because
- 56:40they've all been exposed to the nuclear radiation for so long,
- 56:45they like, they all have. Different abilities now.
- 56:48And Oh yeah, yeah, and we got to get a toxic crossover too.
- 56:52Yes, I feel like I There were parts of me that were expecting
- 56:56him. He.
- 56:56Is the basketball coach. I like that.
- 56:59I could see it, like, I could see him being carrying like he'd
- 57:03be like cow, you know, where he's like real intense on the
- 57:06court, but he actually wants his players to grow up to be good
- 57:08people. You're not thinking like a Bob
- 57:10Knight where he would toss his chair across, no?
- 57:12No, I don't. No, Toxie's not a Bobby Knight
- 57:15at all. No Toxie Night, Okay.
- 57:17No Toxie night. Yeah.
- 57:19He would want to be involved with the community.
- 57:21Cuz you know, that's just the kind of guy Toxie is.
- 57:24Yeah. Yeah.
- 57:24All right, cool. All right.
- 57:26I'll accept that. I think that's the fine sequel
- 57:28idea. And the mayor would be okay with
- 57:30it because, like, if they have a really successful basketball
- 57:33program, you know, that's good for Yeah, he's, he's alive.
- 57:37Yeah, like he's back. Yeah, he's always back.
- 57:39Yeah, like he returns. He dies every movie, but he's
- 57:41back every. Single movie, nothing to wreck
- 57:43on it. I was just he's back.
- 57:45Yeah, he's gotta keep coming back and be the same dude.
- 57:47He never learns his lesson. And we get a joke about talks to
- 57:50me like, I thought I killed you. Yeah.
- 57:52And then the monsters. Like, I thought I did too.
- 57:55Yeah. Yeah.
- 57:57OK. All right.
- 57:58So I pulled a review. OK.
- 58:01I wanted to go with somebody that truly, truly loved this
- 58:03movie. OK, so I got one that's a 10 out
- 58:07of 10 on IMDb. They rated it back June 17th,
- 58:112006 and the title of the review is Classic Trauma.
- 58:16I love this movie. It makes absolutely no sense.
- 58:19It's true, but who cares? It is a very fun movie with a
- 58:23cool monster, some very funny scenes, and some nice boobies.
- 58:27The characters are awesome. Gonzo is amongst the best.
- 58:30He has a humongous snozering and carries around a giant bone.
- 58:34We got, oh, my dog. We didn't even talk about his
- 58:36bone weapon. Yeah, we did.
- 58:37That could have been one of the absurds too.
- 58:39Yeah, we got Spike, another weirdo who is the leader of the
- 58:42gang. We got girls using boys
- 58:44bathrooms, guys selling atomic weed to students, and nerds
- 58:48evacuating the building by jumping out of a window.
- 58:50What's not to like? This may not be as good as the
- 58:53Toxic Adventure or Terror firmer, but it sure is fun.
- 58:57It has some gore. Not as much as the other Torum
- 59:00afflicks, but this is more science fiction anyways.
- 59:03And every school year, By watching this masterpiece, I
- 59:05must see For anyone who likes starkly comical movies or trauma
- 59:09flicks, OK? Yeah, I am kind of coming around
- 59:12on it. I can respect that, Yeah.
- 59:14Honestly, like I was talking about it.
- 59:15And then hearing them, hearing that review like that is the
- 59:18kind of things I like in a movie.
- 59:19Like, yeah, me too. They just don't make any sense.
- 59:21We've got all of this random stuff going on.
- 59:25Yeah, I guess. I mean, you just got to be in
- 59:26the mood for it. So if you're in the mood for a
- 59:28trauma flick or something like that, then you know this is a
- 59:30good movie. Which I guess brings us to the
- 59:33titular question. To be or not to be.
- 59:36And on this one right here, I'm gonna recommend it.
- 59:39Still, Yes, because I say to be I'll watch it again.
- 59:43I watch. The sequels, Yeah, I wanna watch
- 59:45the sequels. Yeah, I think I I just, I need
- 59:50to give it another shot. And because I've got adjusted
- 59:53expectations, now I know what it is and not what I think it is
- 59:57gonna be or what it should be. So I don't know.
- 1:00:00I think I'll like it a lot more, like on rewatch.
- 1:00:03All right. What about you?
