- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: Have a welcome to the MMQBNFL podcast.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Conor Albuquerque Rear is there.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: We got Kent behind the glass today, and I'm flying major Notre Dame victory over the weekend.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: I know that's not what you're here to talk about, but I'm like, I was gonna say, like our first sweatshirt, I don't know.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, like, these are the way things were going.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going on the first half, I'm not sure that we would've gotten that hoodie on the show here.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I was good finished by them.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_00]: Nice drive to start the second half.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_00]: They get to pick sticks.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, everything's fixed.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_00]: Unlike at that is somebody who was ready to fire Ohio State's offensive line coach five minutes into the buck eye season.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: Who did you guys play in the open like what was the directional school to do you guys play in the opener we played ball state Oh ball state okay.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, but if you want to talk about scheduling I mean ball state is the I think I think we have we have a we have an opponent this week that is not a part of conference scheduling
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: But I think is probably a more ambitious opponent than anybody on Notre Dame schedule.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, we open the season against Wisconsin at Lambo Field.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: What else do you want from us?
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we play a week too in Austin.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: We can go in Austin.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_01]: We can go to the Big Ten and play Rutgers every in Austin.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: And then we're in Austin.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: We're in Austin.
- 1:38[SPEAKER_00]: And we'll see if Ohio State winds up back is, you know, a high seed in the playoffs.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Bill burned it this year.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, there's schedule this year.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: Last year, a little light based on the rotation, the big ten rotation.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_00]: This year, adding the Anna at Texas,
- 1:58[SPEAKER_00]: Oregon at home at USC Michigan at home, although that doesn't look like it's going to be too difficult right now.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so we can get into that, too, if you want to talk about the poor people of the poor people of Kalamazoo.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like honestly, I had this discussion with a bunch of my friends over the weekend.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_00]: It we all kind of wanted Western Michigan to win just for the the sure you know like the the comedy of it but it almost wound up being better going down the way it did because it brings up all the it rehashes all the all the the Chican area with the rules in the past.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, also created a storm, a field storming that was interesting, which there was no field storming at Ohio State when we beat our Mac opponent this week, just to be clear.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, the stadium was empty in the fourth quarter.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: You can't remember the other reasons because it was
- 3:11[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, that was, I think the field storming is what happens when you have a lot of fans in that stadium, maybe that student sections for all people who might have been watching their first football game.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'll leave that with.
- 3:27[SPEAKER_00]: Leave that for one of those.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: I never got to, and by the way, it's week one of the NFL season and we're rolling here.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to get to preview the two more minutes and we're almost there, a lot of college football.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_01]: So, I remember at Syracuse, like I attended one game in the
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: And so you would have been like the Greg Robinson era.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: Greg Robinson football, but I'm talking about basketball.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_01]: Our football team was a non-factor every single year I was there, but
- 4:05[SPEAKER_01]: that there was a court storming possibility.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I remember like the leader of like the fan CEO or whatever the chief student section fan being like guys, act like we've been here before.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm like buddy, I got a belly full of yager and I'm running on that court whether you like it or not.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: Like who's coming with me?
- 4:25[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, the idea that like, oh, act like you've been there before.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't been there before and there's a chance that I'm never going to be there again.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm storming nine times out of ten and I get it like if you're Ohio State and you crush ball state, you're not storming, but I think we need to normalize storming because how many times do you get to go to a game?
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe once a year if you're a fan you take your kids or whatever like I want to storm the court I want to run around on the field.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go up to somebody and slap them on the helmet and tell them good job So I don't know.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's my idea of it.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: All right, enough college football Gosh darn it.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: This isn't the others receiving votes podcast
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: But 40 would love, it would be like, it's so funny because even though we're not, we're covered the NFL and we write about football for a living, but not talking to Pat 40 about college football would be someone,
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: asking me about the NFL, like just the relative discomfort on the side of poor Pat 40 would probably just be monumental.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: But one day we're going to synergize the shows.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to bring them together.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: I promise, uh, because Pat 40 and Brian Fisher, Sweeney, all those guys, uh, they're the best.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: And, uh, so we're looking forward to hanging with them at some point during the year.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_01]: But Albert, let's get into it.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I believe just before the show started,
- 5:54[SPEAKER_01]: you were getting some details on the Christian Gonzalez contract.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: We're here to preview Patriot Seahawks.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: We're here to preview Ram's 49ers and then get into Sue Albert's QB poll, which really interesting.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_01]: And if you haven't read it, it's up at Si.com right now.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: Kind of a sea change.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: And how we're looking at the NFL quarterback position.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: So I urge you all to go there and check it out.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: But Christian Gonzalez gets the deal done.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_01]: We didn't know if Mike Vrable would have to have to get involved.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: There was I would say your your.
- 6:27[SPEAKER_01]: typical amount of discomfort when it comes to these things, Robert Kraft with the missteps saying, hey, we already offered him great contract, Christian Gonzalez saying, I don't have to play the first game this season, who cares?
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: I'm one of my money.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_01]: And now the Patriots arrive where we all thought they would by handing over a boatload of money to their best defensive player.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and this is like interesting just I think in the detail and I know most people are bored by this stuff right, but I think the one top on thing I take from this just more talking about the sport in general and we get to the Patriots side of this in a second.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: Recorder and market isn't moving very fast.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and I, I sort of juxtapose it with what happened with the addressers, right?
- 7:11[SPEAKER_00]: So right around the same time, um, Miles Garrett reset the, the, the address your market and, and you had, um, and he had Derek Stingley reset the corner market and Stingley was going from, what, what had been in the mid 20s to 30
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: 30s where, you know, you had Crosby and Bosa, and he took it to 40, right?
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: So right around the same time, you had Ed Russians at 40, you had corners at 30.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I want you to answer the question, because I struggle a little bit with it.
- 7:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think I have an idea, but I struggle a little bit with it.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: So then,
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: The editors go from Garrett at 40 then you have Parsons at 46 at the end of the summer after he was traded right Hutchinson comes at 45 right around and then and March it went to 50 with Will Anderson right so now or that was April I think but now and like 13 months time.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's a 25% markup, right, which is reflective of the cap going up and everything else.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: So you go from 40 to 50 to fast and really from the mid 30s to 50 to fast.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_00]: Meanwhile, a corner, stangly at 30, saws at 30.1, then you have a big duffy, which like Parsons was after a trade.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: And McDuffie is at 31.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_00]: So that's a little bit again, a little bit of an uptick.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: Denzel Ward at 31.1.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: And now you have Devin with her spoon this summer at 33.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: And Gonzalez at 33.75.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it's just interesting.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: You kind of see the way that the league values these positions now in that
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: It's almost like with the edge rushers, it's not like quarterbacks, but it's almost, it's like kind of like, all right, like whatever it costs to get one of these guys you wanna have on a bum, you know what I mean?
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: Orner's it seems a little bit more tap at the rate of growth.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I want to talk about Christian Gonzalez like an actually what he means to the team.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: What are you talking about that, though, really?
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: What?
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's funny to me because, but I was just going to say when you look at the corner back market in particular, right?
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: You had a couple weird just $100,000 bumps for guys to beat the other guy.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's funny to me that like, I mean, $100,000 to me is like, and it's
- 9:46[SPEAKER_01]: and abundant amount of money.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: But if you look at the corner backs, it's just like, yeah, make it an extra 100,000, then this guy.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then if you're the guy that just got leapfrog, aren't you calling your agent and being like, why didn't I just ask for an extra 100 that like, you got to build in the bump?
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like, if it's a 30 million dollar contract, it's like, now, ask for 30.1, because you know that the other guy's going to ask for 30.1,
- 10:09[SPEAKER_01]: make him get 30.2, I don't know, be the rising tide that lifts all boats, ask for the sandwich and the soup to come along with, I don't know, right?
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I just think it's like, I don't know, I mean, like to me, it's just, it's really, these things keep evolving, you know, and like, again, it's just like, when you have well Anderson, it's like,
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, please don't make it hurt too much, sir.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Like it's like not whatever you want, but like pretty close.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like and it's just, it's just, it's different positions.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 10:49[SPEAKER_01]: Um, here's a wild stat.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: When was the last time?
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: Albert, that a Patriots first round pick received a second contract.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_00]: was Dante Haydower, Dante Haydower, and that was why the audience, well, that's why the agency which represents both Gonzales and Wither Spoon went to Seattle first.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_00]: And the Patriots don't have any history of doing this, and this is where we can get in the Patriots' partner's conversation.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder if Mike Rable stepped in over the weekend.
- 11:25[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder if, you know, I look, like when he was in Tennessee, the history of paying guys at the top of the market.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: They paid Jeffrey Simmons, they paid Derek Henry, they paid, I mean, you know, like they paid Ryan Tane Hill more than anybody thought Ryan Tane Hill would get AJ Brown didn't get paid, but that was, because of extenuating circumstances with the knee.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: They paid Taylor Luan, a left tackle.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that was a little before him when Taylor Luan got his contract,
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he was there and had a top-end left tackle contract on his books and my understanding has always been that like variable sort of sees out of these, right?
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I think this is smart, but it's like sort of a separation of church and state thing for him, where it's, you know, so much of his program is built on relationship building and you're having the right culture.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to take care of you and your family and all that different stuff.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's hard if you're the guy who is like trying to save the team a million or two on a signing bonus, you know what I mean?
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Like so he for the most part has stayed out of those.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: He said something interesting over the weekend.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't know if was provoked by me or not.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_00]: But I said this in the radio on Friday morning.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, a gentleman yourself a little crout there.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I don't know, but I know, but I said it, I said it.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: I said generally, like, I'm pretty grateful to these half of these things.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: And then someone asked about that the next day at the press conference.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, yeah, I do.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, but, you know, sometimes I might have to step in.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: And it just got my attention, that wasn't it verbatim, but it was something like that.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: And it just sort of made me wonder, oh, is he gonna step in here?
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: Is he gonna say something here?
- 13:02[SPEAKER_00]: Is he gonna push the crafts to go a little further here?
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, I like that.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: So it just makes me wonder if, and again, like this is sort of like the precursor for what's gonna be a much bigger contract next year for them, presuming everything stays the way it is with the quarterback.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder because it wasn't just the reason that the reason that I feel like he might have gotten involved was because you heard the tenor of, you know, people who were inside the negotiations, connected to the negotiations, 11 hours ago, you know, Adam Shefter, all of the Patriots beat writers that I like and respect who all do a great job covering the team.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I think this is where hard knocks is instructive.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_01]: You remember when Rex Ryan had the Derelle Revis contract on the table and literally lost his mind when that when the jets couldn't get that thing over the hump in time.
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they did get it over the hump like right on, right in time, right?
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: They flew down to Florida, whatever it was.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, 16 years ago at this point.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: But a cornerback,
- 14:12[SPEAKER_01]: who is so central to your scheme, and you go back and you look at the cut-ups last year of Christian Gonzalez, his patience, his field awareness, his understanding of how to get a receiver to believe that he's going to do something other than what he's actually going to do.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: There's some guys that are just bored to play the position.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: Christian Gonzalez is so good.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: And he's one of those guys that you can leave on JSN.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, and we saw that over a few times over the course of that Super Bowl where they were totally comfortable.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: And it's weird because he's just as good against JSN as he is someone like, you know, Zay Flowers, for example, right?
- 14:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like he can take that was the thing to me.
- 14:57[SPEAKER_00]: Is like the JSN one was like kind of what clenched it for me.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: for a bigger corner.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: Jackson Smith and J. Bush have got all full match up.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: He like, like a bigger corner.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like Jason, Jason, generally, if you've got one of these bigger, longer corners, the Kent Bend or Redirect,
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the same way a smaller corner can like JSN is the one who can I go to town on guys like that right.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: So the fact that you feel comfortable lining up a six foot three corner against JSN says everything doesn't it.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_00]: is when you get the smaller Jitterbug types types, which is what JSN is, the craftier types, we're like the bigger longer corners, generally have more issues.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: And the fact that you could like stick Christian Gonzalez on him and have them follow him in the Super Bowl, I think says everything about Christian Gonzalez's value.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, like I think there's one of their corners that's like that in league.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we both know he played a Denver, you know, I think he's sort of on his own as the best corner.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: Stingley, I think is right.
- 16:20[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'd say Stingley's probably number two, but Gonzalez is in the top five.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Christian Gonzalez literally saved two touchdowns in the first half of the Super Bowl.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_01]: And if you look at the first half matchups between him and the offensive player of the year,
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: 10 matchups head to head, two targets, zero receptions.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think by the end of the first half Smith and Jigba had had more targets than total receiving arts.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think it was like four receiving arts at the half.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: And the Patriots scheme at that point was like, we need to do something to create a turn over because we know we're outmatched and they almost got it.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think like that game turned out to be a
- 17:03[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that there were two or three times where, like, a defensive player was that close to getting the ball out of Sand Arnold's hands and just mudding that whole thing up and crashing his balls was such a huge part of that.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: So changes like it's, I, I think this is the best cat the best comp, I mean, and you know, because you were around Rex Ryan right, right, again, and I, I still think like Darrell Revis.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: When he was at his best, might be the, I don't know, like, and I say that's having grown up watching Deon Sanders play.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_00]: When Darrell Reeves was at his best, I don't think there's anybody like him, you know?
- 17:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I would say, I would say Deon was, but Deon was a little different, you know what I mean?
- 17:46[SPEAKER_00]: Reeves was more rugged.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_00]: So they were like different types of players, not saying ones, but I think Reeves was on the Deon level, you know, when he was at his very best.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: And the best compliment, I think you can give a corner.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_00]: is what Rex Ryan used to say about, about, about Revis.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: He changes the math.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_00]: He changes the math on how you deal with an offense.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_00]: And he turns what is in 11 on 10 games, because you get the quarterback out of it, you can now make it a 10 on 9 game.
- 18:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and you can take, we take make it a 10 on 9 game, by taking,
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe the best web, and if you, if you can do that, if you can just make a 10 on 9 game that's huge, right?
- 18:24[SPEAKER_00]: If you can do that by taking the best player out of the equation, oh my god, it's that massive.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 18:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: The Patriots were doing in the Super Bowl, you know?
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, as I mean, and and rest used to be great at explaining this, but you say like generally a really good number one corner, you put them on the number two, then you double the number one.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: But if you can take that guy and put him on the number one,
- 18:47[SPEAKER_00]: Now it's something different altogether.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: And so I don't, I think that this is money well spent.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_00]: This is not, this should not have come to what it came to.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: Like to me, this is like an easy one, you know?
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Jever opened the fridge and stare at it for like five minutes and have no idea what you're gonna make for dinner.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like that happens to me all too often.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, it's one of the reasons that I like butch and box.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: I like having something in the freezer.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: I know I can actually make a good meal with.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: whether it's burgers, steaks, chicken, salmon, whatever.

- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: You got one bottle for this, another bottle for that, and before you know it, you're taking a handful of pills every morning and trying to remember what to take and when.
- 20:36[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I like about IMA.

- 21:08[SPEAKER_01]: And for me, the biggest difference is just how easy it is to make IM8 a part of my day.
- 21:12[SPEAKER_01]: I mix it up, I drink it, and then I'm done.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_01]: There's no cabinet full of bottles, no complicated routine.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: I use IMAE and I think that you should give it a shot too.

- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about what's different between these teams since the last time they've played.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot's changed.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll get to the AJ Brown of it all.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: you know, certainly edgy brown, but Romeo Dobbs came in this offseason, Elijah Vera Tucker.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_01]: They, I think, are more focused on upgrading that fullback position, which I think gives you a little bit of a hint of where they see some things going there.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_01]: But you could argue that as good as they got offensively.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: made it defensively a little bit of a step back for New England like you're you're you're hedging a lot on Kevin Byrd to be your free safety.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: I don't really know what we can reasonably expect out of the past rush in terms of where it is now and where it was last year because down the stretch that defensive line just transformed and became
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: really its own thing.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I mean, teams really struggled to defend.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: They were creating turnovers and heaps.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: They were surviving and bad weather games, they were thriving and bad weather games because of that.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see that as as replicable and so I'm really interested to see where that matchup goes on on the flip side of it.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_01]: No Nick even worry for the stocks and he's so big in terms of that big nickel and how they like to sit in that front and then it sets up all the other things that they do defensively no Kenneth Walker so you're relying on a rookie engineering price and you've seen that.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_01]: really work out at the running back position and we've seen it where sometimes these guys don't know where the holes are for a couple weeks.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_01]: And so I think that this is kind of a fresh game.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_01]: I think that there's room for AJ Brown to dominate and we can get into the AJ Brown of it all, but I'm not sitting here as confident in the sea hoax as I was in the Super Bowl.
- 23:48[SPEAKER_01]: Might even venture to say that what it's a three and a half point spread that I actually think it's going to be closer than that.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is going to be maybe a game that finishes
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's a good close game.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: I would say with Seattle, like just to kind of give people an idea how important Niemann worry was, and it's not that he's an all pro yet, or he was so central to what they did, I can still remember having this conversation with someone before the Super Bowl.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: And somebody said to me who knew both teams really well, tell me how many snaps they have three safety's on the field, and I will tell you,
- 24:26[SPEAKER_00]: how the Seahawks Patriots game went.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_00]: And the Seahawks had Nick Emanori, Kobe Bryant.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_00]: and Julian love on the field together for 70 of 71 snaps.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_00]: And the point that this person was making was, either the Patriots are able to run them out of that look or they are cooked.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: Because if you can't run them out of that look, now they've got to never know the coverage player on the field and they're able to stay in two high coverage, the whole game.
- 24:56[SPEAKER_00]: So now you don't have this stuff down field that you would have otherwise.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_00]: So like Tyre's nights and interesting piece with the even war, I think assuming even war I can't play because I don't think he's been fully ruled out yet.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_00]: Is that right?
- 25:11[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't think he's been fully ruled out.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's just it's not looking good.
- 25:15[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's not looking good, right?
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: They also have another guy who was going to replace Kobe Bryant, Tio Cada, doesn't look like he's going to play.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: So, and, and then, you know, you're at that point with, you know, the other corner spot where when they signed.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_00]: When they sent here in Aril, I think that tells you where they are, you know, they gave it a run with with with with digs that obviously didn't work out, you know, so, you know, there's some moving parts in the secondary there that the patrons maybe should be able to take advantage of that they weren't able to take advantage of before.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think on the flip side.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_00]: How are the Patriots going to be able to pressure Sam Darnold?
- 25:59[SPEAKER_00]: Because Sam Darnold by his own admission, I'm writing a story on it now, not feel like he played as best in the Super Bowl.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: And that game could have been even more of a blow out if Sam Darnold is on his game.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: So how are they going to be able to put pressure on Sam Darnold in this game with no Harold Landry?
- 26:20[SPEAKER_00]: with no cable on Kate Caleb on Chase on, right?
- 26:23[SPEAKER_00]: So they don't have the edge players they had the Super Bowl last year.
- 26:27[SPEAKER_00]: And how much do they have to be creative and use different pressures and borrow from the back end to help the front end and like that's all, those are all questions too.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: So the teams both, I think, I think I'm gonna look a little bit different on defense than they looked in the Super Bowl, which I think gives this gives both offenses
- 26:51[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder too, because we're both standing next to each other in that locker room after the C-Ox beat the patriots.
- 26:58[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the things that Seattle's coaches and some of their players had told me is that they knew
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: Because it's a long season and because of the attrition rates on the offensive line you can't really change a lot of your own tendencies right you can't change you know a cap means this right or something else means that like you have to stick with what you've been doing because otherwise it's costly right it's a it's a fall start it's it's a misblock it's you know your quarterback it's this clock clean
- 27:32[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you have an entire offseason, an entire training camp where some of the beauty of what Seattle was able to create is that like the Legion of Boom's secondary, when they had Peyton Manning's signals totally deciphered and downloaded in that game where they just beat the crap out of the Broncos.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_01]: They knew everything, every, whatever your hand gesture meant, you know, they knew it all, right, they're ready for it.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: What happens when Seattle's defensive line that had that same advantage against the Patriots and that Super Bowl doesn't have it now and New England's going to block it different because you have some of like Vera Tucker who's strengths are a little bit different.
- 28:18[SPEAKER_01]: that that guy's got a fire under his took us to try to make up for what happened there.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that was the devastating loss for Will.
- 28:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I think unfairly and indictment on the short arms, blah, blah, blah, blah.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: You know, again, I think that he took way too much of that loss on him when those two teams weren't comparable from a talent perspective.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: But I think Josh McDaniels has gotten more cards in the deck than he did during the Super Bowl, right?
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it's the skill group's definitely upgraded and I mean, I think in a pretty significant way.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, with the Asia Brown stuff, you forget that Romeo Dobbs is added to that offense.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, there's a little bit of a fascinating thing with that group of Packers receivers where you have Romeo Dobbs going into England, you have Don Tavian Wix going to Filly and you have now Watson and Reed on new deals in Green Day.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, with those four and picking two of them and letting the other two go, so like now we're just dogs look like he's not in a rotation as much he's going to be able to play a more full time role and he's going to have AJ Brown to take the pressure off of them that could be interesting.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think, you know, the injury situation for the Patriots.
- 29:35[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, Trivian Henderson made the trip.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see if he plays, but his status is, is, is, is one to watch there.
- 29:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think in general though, um, the group around Drake may is, is, is better than it was.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: And that's where I think it's going to be so interesting to see how Mike McDonald approaches this because I, I still think like, I think Mike is, I mean, up there, you think he's the best offensive coach in football right now.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, but you would you would you would you pick him in a single game?
- 30:11[SPEAKER_00]: Would you pick him to design defense over anyone else?
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: Right now probably, right?
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: Probably.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's always out there in Philly and it's hard to go against Vic, you know, but that's true because Vic has seen, I mean, yeah, Vic has seen more football than Mike's been alive, right, so, and that's not being like that's not being true.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he was going when Mike was born.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Vic.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Vic was, and I did the story two years ago, the Super Bowl.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: Vic was breaking down the Delaware wing T as a defensive coordinator, done more high school at 21, you know.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_00]: Don't knock it over wing two.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: That's my high school offense.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 30:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, this guy is just he just has a more.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: He just has a wider breadth of, it's like saying, I don't know, man, like I think Paul could put on a slightly better concert than it was in the first generation.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_00]: I was thinking maybe like Vic was starting out when McDonald was born, right?
- 31:11[SPEAKER_00]: And he did spend some time to done more high school and a mill for decademy and Connecticut.
- 31:17[SPEAKER_00]: But by the time McDonald was born, he was actually the linebackers coach of the New Orleans Saints.
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: So, Mike McDonald was born.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_00]: So that is not an exaggeration, but the point is like I think Mike's going to be able to come up with some good answers.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, well, the enough, like the Mike McDonald, Mike McDonald Josh McDaniel's chess match here would be really interesting because it's a different one than what we saw in the Super Bowl.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: Do you double, I mean, you're going to have to double AJ Brown, but the thing about AJ Brown is like, we just, you know, and it was cool to see the Patriots beat writers kind of live tweeting some of the live tweeting some of the contested catch stuff, the red zone stuff because Brown is so good.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_01]: You could argue that maybe the ball placement is going to be a little bit better, maybe the play calling is going to be a little less predictable than it was in Philadelphia last season.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I just think that they're going to be able to, you know, I think AJ Brown's slot percentage is going to go up.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's going to be not hard for me.
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to make him around more when Hunter is going to move him around more.
- 32:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it's harder for me.
- 32:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's not to be done.
- 32:34[SPEAKER_00]: Not to say that it's not the offense.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, that's where young receivers struggle to play in that play in his offense because he does not
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like, because here's the thing, for them, it's always been, well, if we keep one receiver static, then it becomes really hard to move the other receivers around.
- 32:49[SPEAKER_00]: So we don't want that.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 32:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we need to be able to play multiple spots.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: And now, AJ Brown coming in is like, what is he?
- 32:57[SPEAKER_00]: Eight-tier vet now?
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: Coming in with all that background and having played the different offices and everything else They're definitely going to move them around to try to get matchups form and it kind of like I mean a per for Josh It's interesting because in New England he's always had these slot guys And he really hasn't had like the dominant X like I don't think he'd classify moss is quite that moss was like Moss played C and they moved moss around a lot
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: This is a little bit more like what he had in Devontay Adams, I would say, when he was Vegas, when he was in Vegas, Devontay Adams had like 150 targets, the full season that those two were together.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I think the Devontay Adams by looking at how Josh used Devontay Adams in Vegas were probably the closest thing you're going to get to how he might use AJ with Patriots prediction.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think it's the option going to win.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think the option going to win.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think I didn't see Oxford just better, deeper, more balance across the board.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: I would say something like 26, 20.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think the one thing that we haven't done, we aren't diving into, is there a chance to have Donald's better this year a lot better this year than he was last year?
- 34:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, everything that's around him, you know, now you've got the offensive line of stab, which you have crazy able coming back for a second year, you have a full season of Rashid Shahid.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_00]: Um, losing Kenneth Walker's a blow, but I think Jadarian price, like a few less than the people on Seattle, but I think he's going to be a star, you know, and then it gets act sharp and a back on the fly whenever that happens.
- 34:35[SPEAKER_00]: It'll probably be in October at some point, I think, um, I think there's a chance to
- 34:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know what it's going to take for people to give him his credit, but it's really well the last two years.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Sam Donald's going to be a factor, a major factor in the Patreys and the C.A.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: Speed in the Patreys on Wednesday night.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I think people are going to give Sam Donald his credit.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_01]: One, when Seattle makes him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 35:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_01]: Or if it's a huge mistake, that's that that's possible too.
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I mean, I'm following you.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_00]: I'm following you.
- 35:17[SPEAKER_00]: It tells me about it, though, is people just make their minds up.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_00]: And you're making your mind up on a guy based on one.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_00]: What do you look like playing for the jets?
- 35:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 35:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like is that why you is that why you refuse to buy in?
- 35:29[SPEAKER_00]: Because he failed with the jets.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_01]: about how many, you know, how many people, yes.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I mean, and it was the jets when it was like Adam Gase and a arranged marriage with Joe Douglas and the roster was being rebuilt and I like that roster was a mess when he was there.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: Can you remember anybody he was throwing to?
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: Garrett Wilson wasn't there yet.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: who was his number one rider, seever, but there's no rags in Barrieus.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, sort of last year, right?
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what was his name?
- 36:08[SPEAKER_01]: Now this is gonna, you know, I mean, not a good start, right?
- 36:11[SPEAKER_01]: Really dead start for us.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_01]: He was like a, he was like a, he was like a late round pick out in Nebraska, wasn't it?
- 36:23[SPEAKER_00]: Um, his number one receiver, his last year in New York was James and Crowder.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: Demarius Thomas James and Crowder.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: James and Crowder like that, that wasn't the Eric Decker years, right?
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: For Sean Perryman.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: No, oh, Brachston burials, Denzel Mims with 23 catches 357 yards.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: His leading tagging, his leading tagging, his leading tagging was Chris Herndon.
- 36:53[SPEAKER_00]: All right, I'll be chosen.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_00]: You who even rush on that team was?
- 37:05[SPEAKER_01]: I say a crawl.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_01]: The crow shall war.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my God, it's pretty good in year 17.
- 37:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like that, and I'll hold against him.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just saying this, okay, that's what we're holding against him.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_01]: When John Schneider pays him, because right now, Arnold's like, what, what is he right now?
- 37:30[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, uh, you play really, yeah.
- 37:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, look, look, he made it.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's like an all-time great quarterback.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_01]: Let me just, let me just, let me just, let me just go through the facts here.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_01]: Before you do that,
- 37:42[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to start listing all the quarterbacks who have a better APY average per year salary than Sam Donald, Patrick Mahomes, Dak Prescott, Matthew Stafford, Jordan Love, Joe Burrow, Trevor Lawrence, Josh Allen, Jared Cough, Brock Perty, Justin Herbert, La Mar Jackson, Jalen Hertz, just shot, what's that, you're just facts.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm going to give you just
- 38:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_01]: Daniel Jones.
- 38:16[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: And then you have Sam Darnall at 33.5, which is about 250 capable of Baker Mayfield.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_01]: Here, here's the here are the other facts.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey,
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: That wasn't a really tough situation, right?
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: His first year in Carolina, that's coming off that 2020 Jets experience.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_00]: He's with Joe Brady in Carolina.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_00]: Joe Brady gets fired in mid-season.
- 38:50[SPEAKER_00]: They go to Sean Ryan as a coordinator.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, but he did enough still to have
- 38:58[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Shanann say like, yeah, let's bring him in.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle Shanann brings him in.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_00]: He beats out trailans to beat Brock Perti's back up in 23.
- 39:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_00]: So he winds up being the back up there.
- 39:10[SPEAKER_00]: And then he does enough there to get the attention of Clint Kubiak, right?
- 39:17[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so you have Clint Kubiak there.
- 39:19[SPEAKER_00]: He then goes to Minnesota or Kevin O'Connell, things he's seen enough based on limited action that this guy could be my starting quarterback.
- 39:26[SPEAKER_00]: has a great year in Minnesota.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_00]: Then in 25, here's Clint Kubeyack in Seattle.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_00]: We're moving on from genosmith.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_00]: We're bringing in Samdar.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_00]: We believe that Samdar will be the quarterback that we build around here.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_00]: So these are all smart people with experience that are making these decisions
- 39:46[SPEAKER_00]: And basically saying like I'm better off with Sam Donald than the other alternatives that does not mean he's a top five quarterback don't I don't misconstru this I know what I mean like these things too often become all or nothing like you're either all in in a guy or you're out of it right and
- 40:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think we can just at this point say Sam Donaldm's a very good quarterback who is one of the best players in the field in the NFC title game, right?
- 40:13[SPEAKER_00]: Who was able to compartmentalize some mistakes in the Super Bowl and make the throws they needed him to make down the stretch.
- 40:18[SPEAKER_00]: The AJ Barn or touchdown to put the Patriots away.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he's a very good quarterback, is he a great quarterback maybe not, but like I think that there's we look at it and like it's like he finally now is in a situation where he's going to get a chance to build year over year.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_00]: Sure, more ownership of the offense and build a rapport with the receivers and I think like it's at least like like let's see what this looks like he's still only 29 years old was just crazy because he is going into his ninth year now.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_00]: But this is a guy who, I mean, was a high school line back or five years before he came into the NFL.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so there was definitely some development that needed to happen.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_00]: When he came into the NFL, I think he was still sort of a big athlete playing the position.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_00]: And all we've seen him do is like he's progressively gotten better over the years and that has been a little slow time sure.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't know, I mean, I, I don't know if there are 10 quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_00]: You don't know if there's 10 quarterbacks that you would take over don't think about the game right now I'm not saying if I But I don't know there's 10 I would take over him in a big game situation Look at how we play to guess the ramps in the NFC title game I mean that was like Stand and look staffered in that game.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: I would argue like
- 41:39[SPEAKER_00]: That was one of the best quarterback games I've ever seen, as far as like Matthew Stafford goes.
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like Matthew Stafford was at such a high level against a defense that wasn't operating at an incredibly elite pace.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_00]: And Darna was able to do enough to pull out the win.
- 41:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's a little better than Stafford that night, but he did enough to pull out the win.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_00]: It was like 360 something yards and three touchdowns.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_01]: Darnal was number 10 in your quarterback poll, which we're going to get to in a second.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: So maybe maybe you can take exactly nine quarterbacks ahead of Darnal.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_01]: Just really quickly because we got to move.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_01]: But you wouldn't take, would you take, Pat, Darnal over Pat Mahomes in a tight spot.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: Doc Prescott.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's close.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: Mmm.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_01]: Matt Stafford.
- 42:25[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Love.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: That one's close to really close.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: Trevor Lawrence.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you would take Donald over Trevor Lawrence.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: Josh Allen or one game right now.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: No, not Allen.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: Josh.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: Jared Goff.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: It's close.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_00]: I would take golf probably.
- 42:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm a big golf guy though.
- 42:49[SPEAKER_00]: Brock Perti.
- 42:51[SPEAKER_00]: I would take a more perdi I think that's that's that's that's that's that's a fast thing.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: That's a fast thing.
- 42:57[SPEAKER_00]: But I'm saying he's in that mix.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that is all I'm trying to say.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's in that man's who?
- 43:04[SPEAKER_01]: I would take him over jail owners.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: You would take Sam Darnle over jail and hurts.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_00]: And if all things are equal, if all things are equal, yes, like I just, and they're both really good.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like I think they're both good and big spots.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: Like they generally have been, you know.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like if you look at like just the facts, like it's like, I even look at like, and like part of part of part of it for me is judging quarterbacks based on what happens when things aren't right.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I still like look back at the first Rams game last year, these are four picks in that game and almost love them back at the end of when there are a lot of other quarterbacks in the NFL that would come like if they had had that sort of after noon, like it'd be packed in time, we don't have a chance this over and he led them on two drives.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_00]: One that was like over 80 yards for a touchdown, the other one that was from his own one yard line.
- 43:53[SPEAKER_00]: right like in position to get the kicker and position to win it to kick up you like worth it.
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: And that's a long field goal.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Jason Myers had to kick 61 near a field going on on him.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_00]: But if he hits that then the C. Oxford 3 and O against the Rams last year.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um two more just because Caleb leaves.
- 44:12[SPEAKER_00]: One game right now.
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yes for long term now.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: One game right now Donald over Caleb Williams.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then fully healthy baker.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_00]: Ooh, see, that's the one, that's the one right there, right?
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's the one, yeah, I bet a big game situation.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_00]: I, I think you might, right?
- 44:32[SPEAKER_00]: No.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: think you might or I like I like making you uncomfortable in these situations.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's move to because we got a 49ers Rams by the time.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_00]: I want to first start this with Kyle Shanahan's time zone issues, which I like I what time is it in in Melbourne right now?
- 44:53[SPEAKER_00]: It would be so it is
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think you look it up.
- 44:58[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to see if we're taping this at 1120.
- 45:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it is on 24 am Melbourne time right now.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you ruined it.
- 45:09[SPEAKER_00]: I was going to try to do it.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you're getting, are you guessing?
- 45:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, I have it up.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's 124.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: I want to thought it would have been like 624 am there Melbourne.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_00]: I got I want to thought it would have been like 624.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: Is it, is it 14 hours, then that will be 14 hours, right?
- 45:29[SPEAKER_00]: Mm-hmm, these, are these coasts?
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: 14.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_00]: So it's set that may actually have make sense, because that'd be 17 from the west coast, right?
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_00]: So it's fourth, so it's 1 a.m. On Wednesday and Melbourne right now.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_01]: Here's what I don't think enough people are talking about.
- 45:49[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe this is big potatoes, maybe it's small potatoes.
- 45:55[SPEAKER_01]: the part of the reason why the NFL does this is that it's a huge barn storming trip for them.
- 46:01[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_01]: If you've ever covered in England game, which I have, it's about the week.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 46:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's about having Roger Rodgersson from the Times of London interviewing a, you know, a NFL quarterback.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_01]: And it's about having them being on the BBC and all that stuff.
- 46:20[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: the Rams, if they literally show up for the game and then turn around or they're like, all right, be a bitch and then they just fly back to LA.
- 46:33[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just telling you this, if the Rams come out and beat the 49ers asses, play, so it's really the League of Oscar get real nervous.
- 46:42[SPEAKER_00]: There might be mandates to go in now.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, are never going to go out early again.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: unless the league mandates itself.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_00]: Right, that's why I'm saying, like there would be like guardrails, then, right?
- 46:54[SPEAKER_01]: And if the 49ers come out and beat the Rams asses because the Rams show jet lagged and it's a 12 hour difference.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's that.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_00]: So you want me to explain the different theories here why this is so disparate, like I can give you like what the two teams were thinking.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so the diners are very focused on week one and the diners basically are doing the conventional thing, which is this is a huge time difference.
- 47:25[SPEAKER_00]: We want our guys acclimated to their surroundings.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_00]: We want them ready to go and like look.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, we'll deal with what happens after after we got a full weekend for them to react on mate to being in California.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 47:43[SPEAKER_00]: The rams are basically looking at this from a week to perspective, which is if we can sneak in there and play well and come back and not reset our clocks, we won't have to deal with a reaction on the other side of it.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_00]: Essentially what they're saying is, if we can just fight through this, then we'll be okay.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, I mean, I like I think it's just going to be interesting, you know, it's just going to be interesting because this is totally unprecedented.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like this is not like going to London or Madrid or even Germany, which is Germany's six time zones, right?
- 48:26[SPEAKER_00]: Madrid's six time zones, London's six time zones.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_00]: This is like a bad amount of time in a plane and
- 48:34[SPEAKER_00]: that sort of jet lag difference in time and all of that and I mean for me honestly like I I've done this once in my life.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_00]: We flew me an Emily on our honeymoon.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: We flew from New York to Hong Kong and then went to Bali from there.
- 48:48[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 48:50[SPEAKER_00]: And a little bit of flex I got to tell you what actually what it was was when we were we wanted to go to Bali for our honeymoon which was great I would recommend anybody going there we want to go far away it was like what are we working we go that we will probably never have the chance to go to again so why not being bother.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: And when we were booking the flight, we were flying through Hong Kong.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, well, this is fucking stupid.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like, we're just flying through the Hong Kong airport.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like, no, I want to stop and like check out Hong Kong.
- 49:21[SPEAKER_00]: So we made our our our layover essentially like a three day layover, you know?
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: Which I thought was like, because you wouldn't want to be like in Hong Kong and then be like, oh yeah, I was in the Hong Kong but it was just like, I was going from terminal A to terminal C or whatever they would call it over there and that was it.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: So, by my mind, it was so freaking disorienting, like landing in Hong Kong, and we left on Sunday night at midnight, and you fly over the North Pole to get there from New York, and you land in Hong Kong, and now it's like Tuesday morning, it was so disorienting, Connor.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm really interested to see and look like we didn't have the lay flat beds and all that different stuff that all these players are going to have.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be a different experience for them.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously flying, I'm really interested to see how they look on Thursday.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_00]: Because again, it's just it's unprecedented having that level of travel on tacked onto a season over.
- 50:20[SPEAKER_01]: What do you think about the game here?
- 50:21[SPEAKER_01]: And I think what I am truly interested in.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_01]: is it'll evolve over the course of the season.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: But how and why and when the Ram's kind of hockey style shift lines up front and how often that they do it, do they want something that's static?
- 50:46[SPEAKER_01]: And obviously, you don't create that kind of depth if you don't plan on using it.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not just talking about Aaron Donald.
- 50:52[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, their defensive tackle six is better than a lot of teams defensive tackle one at this point.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm very curious to see if Kyle Shanahan does anything to prevent that from happening, or if there's certain matchups that he wants to freeze on the field and if the rest of the NFL is looking at the Miles Garrett thing, less as a big deal.
- 51:21[SPEAKER_01]: than we are, right?
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, because from the media side of it, it's holy God, NFL sack leader goes to a team that's already the top five defense, whatever was.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_00]: If you're a coach, just remember coach, the standpoint, it's like, okay, like, what do we have to account for Jared versus Miles Garrett, right?
- 51:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that's the margin you're talking about, which is like, it's a margin for sure, like, Garrett's better, but versus a damn good player too.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_00]: And so to me, it's, it's different.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I'd actually, I would argue not to jump in your corner, but like, I would argue the margin of corner is bigger for them than the margin on, at the fence event, right?
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: That's fair.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: Like the boundaries that they made it greater, where more significant than the upgrades that they made.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I agree with that.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 52:13[SPEAKER_01]: And so it's, you know, this may be like kind of like a galaxy brain-seeming conversation where we're clearly overthinking it, but outside of third-down, obvious past-rushing situations, which the Rams were already excellent at, right?
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: How much changes if you're an offensive coordinator going into this game?
- 52:33[SPEAKER_01]: And the 49ers are interesting to me because, I mean, you don't have George Kittle in this one, but what you do have, I think is still a very unique set of personnel equipped to be able to block someone like Miles Garrett out of the backfield.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you have a true fullback, a true H back fullback.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: You have guys who can help.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_01]: And some of those guys are at least healthy enough to make it.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, can they make it so that Miles Garrett is at least not a tornado in this one?
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think it's going to be an interesting question, right?
- 53:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and you know, there's always that weak one thing too, or what you see isn't always real, you know, and there's that element of mystery that they have here and how they're going to use them that's a, you know, I think with Chris Shula with all the stuff we've seen him do over the years and how you evolve what we're he Morris was doing.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_00]: Could they get creative and trying to generate matchups and put pressure on.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_00]: on the on the on the on the Niners that way, you know, I and I think like that's sort of been and that's make days coaching staff right like is like that's what they're always challenged to do is to keep evolving things and so does how does Garrett of all help them evolve like for example, we just talked about like that big the seahawks big nickel right with the three safeties.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_00]: The 13 personnel thing was a response to that, you know what I mean?
- 54:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like the first personnel thing is a response to teams playing them that way, you know?
- 54:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so it's like, okay, like you want to put three safety's in the field.
- 54:12[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we'll put three tight ends on the field, you know?
- 54:14[SPEAKER_00]: And like, good luck stopping the run against that.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_00]: So, like, I think they've always been creative and aggressive and pushing things forward.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I guarantee you, like, one of the first conversations, McVay and Shula and all those guys had when they got my Oscar, it was like, okay.
- 54:30[SPEAKER_00]: like how do we what can we unlock here and what can we do that's a little bit different and along behold here are the Niners in week one and this is going to be an important division game for them and so you know what can they what can they do to make sure that that that miles
- 54:48[SPEAKER_00]: is seeing matchups that'll put them in position and make plays and and and and also, you know, on the flip side of that, what can Kyle Shanahan and his staff do you mentioned news check and some of the other elements that they have to deal with it.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_00]: What can they do to ensure that's my Oscar, it doesn't just completely wreck the game.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_01]: Tooth that one thing that I thought was interesting.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_01]: Raheem Morris is still a big cover three guy and always has been Matt Stafford was one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL against cover three last year.
- 55:21[SPEAKER_01]: How does he change his stripes and Raheem has called that Rams defense before right now and he's in San Francisco and the other thing that I just think is underrated that we still don't talk enough about I mean if they decide to try to out 13 personnel.
- 55:35[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if the 49ers secondary is even big enough.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_01]: You did to stop it, right?
- 55:39[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's pretty nice.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_01]: There is a bunch of big guys at skill positions.
- 55:43[SPEAKER_01]: Big tough, like Pukin' to Q is tough.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_01]: The, you know, Dante Adams is big.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's physical.
- 55:49[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's had to use his weight for his weight around.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: The tight ends are big and tough, you know?
- 55:53[SPEAKER_01]: So, I don't know.
- 55:54[SPEAKER_01]: I just think this is a bad matchup, especially as unhealthy.
- 55:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, in the way they poured into it too, you know, I'll tell you this, like no one cares about infancy and entertainment, but you might be interested in the fact that I drafted Terence Ferguson, who I,
- 56:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think is got a chance to be, they really, really, really high end tight end.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_00]: And when they dropped into the second round last year, like they saw a guy who was athletically very much, like a very unique type of weapon, you know, Colby Parkinson, you know, you look at like what they've got, they draft Max Claire in the second round.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_00]: There's just like a such an interesting chess match between these two teams.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_00]: They know each other so well and like you're right, like there's, you know, like is this a way to take advantage of of the size of the of the nine or secondary and how aggressive the nine or so are as like, okay, like, he want to be aggressive with some of the stuff we're going to come right at you and could that create a profit that sort of approach is what it is.
- 56:58[SPEAKER_00]: Like, does that like create a little bit of an issue for the Niners up front to where, you know, I think they've got like a lot of moving pieces up at that way relying on some young guys and then having some of, you know, the older guys coming in, like, and I'm going to say a diggy to a prediction.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think the original one.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_00]: I would say.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you put a score in it.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: something like 27 17, I think staff are just going to play really well.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think so too.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like a 30 21 guy, you know, I think that I think this is I'm a little worried about the Niners.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_00]: I just.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I mean, we could tell the substation jokes who aren't, the reality is older teams get beat up, older teams get hurt, older teams get worn down.
- 57:51[SPEAKER_00]: And I just, you know, I mean, I think like this is kind of the unspoken price of the trail and straight is that they were, you know, without first round picks for three straight years, which I think force them to take not only, not only they not have that capital, but maybe force them to take some chances that they struck out on in the draft.
- 58:09[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, it really kind of handicap their ability to bring up a young group of players beyond.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_00]: What they already have and now, you know, you look at it and it's Christian McCaffrey, age 30.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_00]: It's kiddo well into his 30s It's Trent Williams and his 17th year.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's right right 17 years for Trent.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm unbelievable But you know, he's still an older guy Nick Bosa in year eight Fred Warner in year nine I'm not I just ticked off.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_00]: What is that that that that might be the six best players in the team you know I just
- 58:46[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder what that's going to look like when we get to week eight, you know, and maybe it maybe it looks good and week one, you know, that's the one caveat I have here, and that's an incredibly capable coaching staff for he Morris was a grand slam higher for Kyle Shanahan.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_00]: I still have a ton of faith in that program and the people there to get it done.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I just wonder if we get to November and does it look like the nine or time on to this group a little too?
- 59:11[SPEAKER_01]: I want to move quickly to your quarterback poll, which again, check it out on Si.com over a hundred votes from League types, executives, weighing in on who the best quarterback in the NFL is.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_01]: I want to just run through the top 10 really quick.
- 59:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then what I want to do is just sort of talk about the implications of that before we get out of here.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: So Josh Allen, number one, we have
- 59:42[SPEAKER_01]: Josh Allen, number one, Matthew Stafford, and number two, which is really, really interesting 33 first place votes.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_01]: Patrick Mahomes, number three, Jill Barone, number four, Lamar Jackson, number five, Justin Herbert, number six, Dak Praskot, seven, Drake May 8, Caleb Williams, nine, Sam Darnell 10, ahead of.
- 1:00:06[SPEAKER_01]: Jared Goff and Jordan Love who were tied at 11th and then Jaden Daniel's 13-Bone X-14.
- 1:00:14[SPEAKER_01]: Very interesting to me.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_00]: So I just go through the methodology really quick.
- 1:00:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not asking who the best quarterbacks are now.
- 1:00:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm asking who they think the best quarterbacks were gonna be at the end of the year.
- 1:00:24[SPEAKER_00]: The first year I did this was in 2015.
- 1:00:25[SPEAKER_00]: And it produced the desired result.
- 1:00:29[SPEAKER_00]: Andrew Locke, what came in second and the poll that year behind Aaron Rogers, he outranks Tom Brady.
- 1:00:36[SPEAKER_00]: Which, you know, at the time, it was like, Locke had been three straight years in the playoffs, rookie year, wildcard round.
- 1:00:44[SPEAKER_00]: second year, divisional round, third year afc championship and without a great team around them.
- 1:00:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, so if there was this thought like Lux about to take off, we know the rest, injury started to hit, that was that.
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_00]: But you know, that's always been sort of the ideas I want you to project these guys.
- 1:01:01[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_00]: The voting group is people who either of coach the quarterback or evaluate the quarterback.
- 1:01:08[SPEAKER_00]: So it's head coaches, offensive coordinators, passing game coordinators, quarterbacks coaches, and then the evaluators, general managers, VPs, slash directors, a player personnel, senior personnel execs those guys, and then pro scouting directors.
- 1:01:24[SPEAKER_00]: So you either coach the quarterback or you evaluate the quarterback.
- 1:01:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think the number I had was 20 head coaches, 21 general managers voting, all 32 teams represented 30 of the 32 teams had multiple voters.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_00]: So I try to make this as much of a cross section as I possibly can.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the most interesting, so I, when I first started doing it, I was like, I want to keep this to the elite.
- 1:01:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like I want them to vote on who they think is the best.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 1:01:48[SPEAKER_00]: And not have it like weighed down by who they think is 7th or 8th.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_00]: So over the last two years, a group of four really emerged is like the top group.
- 1:01:58[SPEAKER_00]: And that was Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrell, the Marjaxon.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_00]: this year, Stafford cracks that group.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_00]: So now you have five.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_00]: So what's most interesting about this year's exercise to me is you have to put someone in that group on your ballot.
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_00]: You have to take one of those guys out, you know?
- 1:02:19[SPEAKER_00]: And so which quarterback do you think is capable?
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_00]: Most capable of breaking into that group this year.
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_00]: And so to me, it's almost more interesting what's happening, six on down than it is in the top five.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what are your impressions looking at it so I mean you have I mean the jail and hurts of it all is just so fascinating right I mean you have a guy who's been to a silver wall and want to see one And one now QB wins, but like what yeah, I mean you know people are just so out on him
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan love to me is the one where like last year obviously he wasn't on your QB pole only appeared on five ballots, but like love to me and like if you look at love and what he's capable of doing versus like if you were to ask John Schneider like who do you want?
- 1:03:17[SPEAKER_01]: between those two guys.
- 1:03:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, loves younger.
- 1:03:21[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's more athletic.
- 1:03:22[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you know, I love to just be in the on the floor for that conversation, you know, lovers love versus Donald, right?
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, obviously, dark, right.
- 1:03:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, because he had to wait so long.
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_01]: But love to me is I think he's so underrated.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_01]: I think
- 1:03:46[SPEAKER_01]: this poll.
- 1:03:50[SPEAKER_01]: shows how difficult it is to distill the lead to, you know, 14 or 15 quarterbacks.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, but shows me really that we have the opposite of a quarterbacking problem in the NFL too.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:04:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I always say that people are like, like, there's a lot of people think like, oh, the quarterbacks now suck.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's not like an eye grew up in the era of, you know, when I first started watching football, John L.way.
- 1:04:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's Dan Marino.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's Joe Montana.
- 1:04:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's Jim Kelly.
- 1:04:17[SPEAKER_00]: It was Steve
- 1:04:19[SPEAKER_00]: a little bit later on, like, and I think we have a way of, like, overclocking out a little bit, because it was great at the top.
- 1:04:29[SPEAKER_00]: But who is the 15th best quarterback then?
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_00]: You know, who is the 20th best quarterback then?
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_00]: Like you get into the 90s, even the 2000s.
- 1:04:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like the depth that we have now is pretty solid.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and I think people forget that.
- 1:04:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like said that it's just a number of capable quarterbacks that our football is really, really high, which I think is great, you know what I mean?
- 1:04:51[SPEAKER_00]: Like that's awesome and it's good for the sport.
- 1:04:53[SPEAKER_00]: It's good to feel league and all that different stuff.
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_00]: Just in Herbert, all it gets my attention.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, because I think Justin Herbert, I've come around on this.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think Justin Herbert is kind of you to like Matthew Stafford in Detroit.
- 1:05:06[SPEAKER_00]: where people on the outside tear him apart and rip him to shreds.
- 1:05:10[SPEAKER_00]: And then the people who really know way more football than all of us that are inside these buildings keep telling us he is freaking awesome.
- 1:05:18[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_00]: And it feels to me so much like Matthew staffed in Detroit where like when you talk to people about staffed while he was a lion.
- 1:05:28[SPEAKER_00]: This is what you would get from people inside the league.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_00]: You don't understand.
- 1:05:31[SPEAKER_00]: You have no idea what he's capable of, what like the sort of burden that he's carrying there.
- 1:05:38[SPEAKER_00]: And what happens like now you have staffer to second on the list.
- 1:05:43[SPEAKER_00]: So.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_00]: that's what's interesting with Herbert to me is now does he have enough right around him with Whiteley Daniel as the play call with the two tackles healthy with the young receivers who I think have a chance to take a step with O'Marion Hampton as maybe, you know, Jim Harba's new Frank Gore in the backfield second Frank Gore mentioned on this podcast.
- 1:06:04[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like now as he in position without changing teams to take the sort of leap that Matthew Stafford did when he became a Ram.
- 1:06:12[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's an interesting storyline for the 2026 season is why it wouldn't totally stun me if Herbert was a very real can't like MVP candidate won't get to the end of the year.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I urge everybody to check it out.
- 1:06:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's great.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's a great piece of journalism.
