- 0:06Welcome inside the Treehouse Football Podcast. I'm Daniel Malley, along with Trey Trenholm
- 0:15and Raj Sharma are Cowboys coming off of a forty nine seventeen demolition of the
- 0:24New York Football Giants and their third string. I'm not related to Danny DeVito.
- 0:34I I've already forgotten his first name. I believe so of the Giants.
- 0:42So what's that I don't I don't, I said, I believe so
- 0:48of the Giants. Yeah, I believe they've forgotten his name as well.
- 0:53Yeah, I don't know if that's the name you really need to commit to
- 0:55memory. I don't think it is. But you know what he's he's living
- 1:03the high life right now as as the starting quarterback of the New York Giants.
- 1:07He's still living at home with his mom and his dad. His laundry
- 1:11is done for him. His mom makes his bed every day he had.
- 1:15She's got chicken cutlets ready for him when he gets home from practice or games.
- 1:21Granted, he spends the majority of the time running for his life.
- 1:26You think she makes some little chicky nuggies in the shapes of footballs. I
- 1:33know now, I just picked him outside of the stadium, like waiting for
- 1:36his ride. All the other players are getting in there, like, my
- 1:42mom's almost here. It's all good guy, thanks. The other players are
- 1:48offering him rides. Pissed off that mom didn't pack putting in his lunch,
- 1:56teammates are offering him like my mom says, I can't get in the car
- 1:57with strangers. That's true because he didn't really know some of those I'm sure
- 2:06a number of those guys. Because not only is the name so quintessential slash
- 2:10stereotypical Jersey, the fact that he grew up nine miles from the stadium,
- 2:19still lives in the same house with his family that is twelve minutes from the
- 2:22practice facility. I'm sure a number of the players thought, this is a
- 2:27fan that just snuck into the locker room. That's the twelfth man. Were
- 2:32like the fifteenth Yeah, I remember, Like you know, we've talked about
- 2:38my my football participation. I wouldn't say playing participation in high school. Like
- 2:45my sophomore year, I actually got to second string, which I was very
- 2:47I just want That's all I wanted to be. I just wanted to stay
- 2:50there. Freshman year, I was six string out of four receivers. Do
- 2:53the math at home, one hundred percent sure. There was this first string,
- 2:59second string, third string, two empty spaces and then me, So
- 3:02I wasn't I wasn't faster than no one. So uh I would lose in
- 3:07my own foot race, that's how well. But I got to second string,
- 3:12and I just remember being like, I'm good, I'm good here.
- 3:15I don't need to So anytime I would see like the like the corner,
- 3:19take a take a hit, I was like, oh, I'm not,
- 3:22get up, get up. I don't wanna. I don't, I don't
- 3:23wanna. I got to hear I'm good. I'm not. I'm not that,
- 3:27I'm not. I'm not sick string anymore. I'm second, I'm fine.
- 3:30And uh so I imagine the the Vido whatever his first name is.
- 3:35Uh when when the when Daniel Jones went out with the Achilles and and the
- 3:42second string quarterback went up. He's like, cool, there's no way,
- 3:46there's no way it's gonna be me. And then that guy went out and
- 3:50he's like, dude, no, you can tell like that was looking Probably
- 3:57it was probably assuming the Giants would do what so many the other NFL teams
- 4:00do when they lose the starting quarterback or two quarterbacks they called Josh Dobbs.
- 4:04The problem is the Giants were too late on that, and Jobs is already
- 4:10playing somewhere else. So Divido's like, yeah, it's you kid, Yeah,
- 4:14and his face the entire game was like come on, guys like that.
- 4:17The like every time he got up from taking a hit, he just
- 4:21kind of like, hey, somebody helped me. That was I lost interest
- 4:27in that game. And you know what, I lost interest in that game.
- 4:30I think what it was twenty one nothing. I was like, all
- 4:32right, we're gone. I can see. I actually came in I think
- 4:35at the perfect time because we had an event, so I missed the first
- 4:40part of the game, so I don't even know what happened. You know.
- 4:44I didn't start watching the game until about ten minutes left in the second
- 4:46quarter, and the game was almost over by then. Even Yes, the
- 4:55yeah, the good thing I will take away from that game as a Cowboys
- 4:59fan is that's what they were supposed to do to the really just downtrodden giants.
- 5:06That's what they were supposed to do. So they Yeah, they met
- 5:10expectations in that game. Yes, I mean that's I think that's what you
- 5:15know and they were. One of the commentators was talking about how Dak had
- 5:19made a comment like, you know, we feel really good from coming off
- 5:24a win, and let's let's go to this game with that same momentum.
- 5:27And I'm like, but they're also two and six, so let's and they're
- 5:30all on their third string quarterbacks. So yeah, they won, but it's
- 5:35like, it's still like the Eagles, like, come on, guys,
- 5:40we're about to We're going to play them again here soon, so let's let's
- 5:43play like that. Let's manage that expectation. But to be the two and
- 5:46six team on a third string quarterback like that, I don't know how.
- 5:49I wasn't like, I wasn't overjoyed. I was like, all right,
- 5:53we won, cool ass smart, But by like you said, by ten
- 5:56minutes into the second quarter, I was like, I can start dinner now.
- 5:59I'm good. I'm not I don't need to be attentive through this.
- 6:02But it was it was. I mean, it was fun. I was
- 6:04more irritated by that fourth and goal call in the first quarter than I was
- 6:09anything. Yeah, that's the first text men. I was like, it
- 6:12they're they're trade text three Immediately was so disappointed. I'm like, they just
- 6:16started. That's that was just a boneheaded call. Yeah, they were just
- 6:20plain aggressive. They were trying to feel it. That why Why Because because
- 6:26they knew the Giants were two and six and realistically, man up, man
- 6:32up off this. You showed me you can get a yard. Oh you
- 6:34can't, You're I mean, that was just it was a stupid call.
- 6:40Pardon my language, that's okay. It's passion. Trade's passionate. Yeah,
- 6:46take the three points and move on down the road. Yeah, it was
- 6:49a texture. I was like, come on, buddy, relax. They
- 6:53know they're gonna win. That's what then. And also it also it makes
- 6:57me mad that the signature thing with Philly and why they're so good, the
- 7:00tush push whatever you want to call it, the Cowboys can't even do They
- 7:04cannot like fourth and one can't do it. Yeah, but I mean it,
- 7:10but again, it was that thing like that, that call was,
- 7:14Hey, we're gonna win this by a mile, So if we want to
- 7:16goof around, let's let's do that. And let's see because we we do
- 7:20have tougher teams coming up, so let's see if we can get these plays
- 7:24to work or not work or because they're gonna go back and watch the film
- 7:28on that and go, here's why that didn't work. So let's yeah,
- 7:30I guess it's not it's not technically goof around, but I think you're right.
- 7:34It's like that they were looking at the game against the Giant says,
- 7:36you know what, A lot of this stuff is sort of like this is
- 7:40a nationally televised practice for us. Yes, yes, that's exactly what it
- 7:46was. This is like a scrip in mind, this is this is the
- 7:49same team that got their ass whipped by Arizona. So I don't know that
- 7:54we can really go into any game going eh, we got this. No,
- 7:59I think that one you can. I mean third string quarterback. Yeah,
- 8:03you're right, but that's what I'm saying, the third string quarterback.
- 8:07And let's be honest, if there was if there was any team that would
- 8:11be, you know, possibly above average in the NFL to get its ass
- 8:16handed to it by the New York Giants with a third string quarterback at home,
- 8:22it would be the Cowboys. Yes, uh, And that's why you
- 8:26know I do like this. This is when I enjoyed Trey's pessimism. It's
- 8:31when he's like, well, we could lose, and I'm like, he's
- 8:33he's like of the treehouse, he's my e or like it's not like it's
- 8:43not Yeah, there is a lot of pessimism, but I mean, to
- 8:46me, that's just realism. With the Cowboys, I still don't I don't
- 8:50think it was sound coaching, sound logic, right then? You know here
- 8:56in the first first drive, first quarter, Yeah, you and and you
- 9:00have a team that, let's be honest, kind of a fragile psyche.
- 9:05Why risk it? Why risk it at fourth and goal in any game that
- 9:09you know you can easily win? Take the three points? And you know,
- 9:15yeah, did you you know if that had been against Philly, I
- 9:18probably would have had been all right, you know what, they're a better
- 9:22team. You gotta roll the dice, you gotta take your chances. I
- 9:24would be more down with that than I am with with the Giants. And
- 9:28that's that's all. Yeah. Yeah, did you did you have? Did
- 9:31you have the over? Is that? What is that what this is about?
- 9:35I'm pretty sure that hit regardless make the Cowboys hit that? Yeah,
- 9:39that was they actually did. Because I remember last week I'm watching the game
- 9:43and I'm thinking, I think I told Trey to place a bet for me,
- 9:46and I wanted the under and and the Cowboys did that themselves. Yeah,
- 9:52that's why I remember watching it, going to dance the under. I'm
- 9:56like, what, like I did? But that's sort of like, sort
- 10:00of like Trey, I have a little bit of that cowboy's pessimism. Now,
- 10:03if we're looking at at our show here in our sports analysis of the
- 10:07Cowboys, as you know Winnie the Pooh characters, Trey is definitely or I
- 10:13would imagine I'm probably poo Or, and then and Raj you're obviously Tigger,
- 10:20Yes, founcing around. Yeah, Cowboys. I And can we just say,
- 10:28just for the sake of say, ceedee, Lamb is probably one of
- 10:33the best receivers in this game. That that one handed catch was probably the
- 10:37most amazing thing I've ever seen. It was pretty great. The thing I
- 10:41can't stand it with, Oh, when wide receivers make one handed catches like
- 10:46that, are the times that they drop the two handed ones. Yeah,
- 10:54but if you want, I mean, and I've watched it over and over
- 10:58again, I don't even think he saw the ball. I think he just
- 11:01knew that's where it was going to be, and his hand went there like
- 11:05that was incredible, and then he almost did twice in the same game.
- 11:13But yeah, that was for me. Ceedee Lamb was the highlight. And
- 11:16then I believe Bland had an interception as well. Did he have an interception?
- 11:20Talked down talking about Ceedee Lamb and the massive game he had. You
- 11:28also finally had a massive game from Brandon Cooks had You even had some meaningful
- 11:35catches and a touchdown as well for Michael Gallup. It was basically a wide
- 11:39receiver party for the Cowboys for the first time this season, where everybody's just
- 11:43you know, everyone's having a good time and as the offensive side goes.
- 11:48It was an end zone party as well. Dak had won CD's in the
- 11:52end zone, Brandon Cooks is in the end zone, Rico Doubtele is in
- 11:56the end zone. The one guy left out, poor Tony Pollard. Yeah,
- 12:01apparently he was the only guy of the skilled positions on the Cowboys offense
- 12:07that did not get the invitation to the end zone party. Yeah, and
- 12:11you know, and again it goes back to you guys actually played played and
- 12:15be like, you know, uh, as opposed to me who just just
- 12:18I was. I was present, joyfully, I didn't miss a game.
- 12:22Uh, they wouldn't have noticed. Well they would have. I wasn't the
- 12:26only brown guy, so they would have noticed. Uh. But like,
- 12:30is okay? So that when they're like, you your quarterback goes down,
- 12:33they're like and and it's always an assumption made that the that that's it,
- 12:37like the game, you know, the season could be over, like when
- 12:41Rogers went down, and uh, Zach Wilson, Zach Wilson, yeah takes
- 12:45over, Like you know what, it's just whatever it is? Now?
- 12:48Is that is that legitimately that big of a I know he's the leader of
- 12:52the team, and I get that. Is it legitimately that big of a
- 12:56deal? Like, I understand, but these are all skilled players, amally
- 13:00it is. But you've made it to the NFL. You're all very skilled
- 13:03players. You're all elite players to make it to that level. So why
- 13:07would that make so much of a difference. I just don't. Because it's
- 13:11the NFL. Because it's the NFL, and they spend so much money on
- 13:15the starting quarterbacks that other positions, other starting positions on the team, there's
- 13:22a drop off sometimes because you spend so much money on a top flight quarterback,
- 13:26you can't afford to have top flight players at every at every position that
- 13:31you want unless you get them on their rookie deals. Right Well, what
- 13:35I'm saying is, like, is the bond with the rest of that for
- 13:39that starting quarterback and the bond with that team, is it that isolated that
- 13:43you can't have a second person come in and fill those shoes immediately? I
- 13:50think I think it really depends. And like so a great example was with
- 13:56the Jets when Aaron Rodgers goes down. The problem with that is they already
- 14:01c. J. Wilson's been playing with him for two years. They knew
- 14:03what they had in CJ. Wilson. So I think there is a massive
- 14:05confidence of just the lack of car Like Rogers goes down, there goes our
- 14:09season because they know they got crap as a backup. I think other times,
- 14:13and you've seen it that you know backups will come in and if they
- 14:16have if they can show a little bit of confidence and make a throw that
- 14:20they can do Okay, they're obviously game in and gay out, are not
- 14:24going to be as good as the starters. That's why they're backups. But
- 14:26you know dobbs like that, you know in Minnesota. He came in.
- 14:31I mean, he didn't even know the playbook, but obviously he had the
- 14:33confidence and you know, get in the huddle and said, you know,
- 14:37and they got it done. And so I think it very much depends.
- 14:39But I think that's why there are some there are some good backups. Colt
- 14:45McCoy, like I think I think he retired then I think they brought him
- 14:48back one of those good back like, you know, serviceable backups. He
- 14:52can go in there and make some decent throws whatever. And you know,
- 14:54that's why he'll make He made a couple of million dollars a year for most
- 14:58of his career and hardly played not a bad Yeah, and real quick,
- 15:01you said, CJ. But I know you mean Zach Wilson. Although the
- 15:05old, the old Rangers pitchers, c J. Wilson coming out of baseball
- 15:09retirement and pulling him out of a race car, he might be able to
- 15:13do it. Yeah, talk about talking about head cases. Yeah, And
- 15:16and and I've always I've always just I have a theory about quarterbacks. And
- 15:24and they always have great names like they I think at a very young age
- 15:30when you're when you guys are in pee weed or little League, whatever you
- 15:33call it. They see the kid with the name and they go, that's
- 15:35we don't know if he's got the skill, but Cole McCoy, you have.
- 15:39There's no other thing you're going to do in the state of Texas but
- 15:43play. You're you're the guy that I think he may be on to something
- 15:48there, especially when you think about the great quarterbacks of the history of the
- 15:52NFL. Just imagine a little six year old Joey Montana, Like you can
- 16:03come in as the coach and you're like, you know what, I think
- 16:07that's our I think that's our quarterback. It's got to be. You're not
- 16:11gonna take it. You're not going to take a little, a little tiny
- 16:14joe Montana and say linebacker, where's that kicker Montana at? You know?
- 16:25Yeah, Like Joey Montana sounds like a character out of a mob movie,
- 16:29Like go talk to Joey Montana. Uh, And they have they have those
- 16:33names like Colt McCoy. I'm like, come on, man, like either
- 16:36football or you own a Dodge dealership, Like that's all you can do.
- 16:38Like it's come on down to Colt McCoy, Dolledge, like that's what that
- 16:42actually would it wouldn't surprise me if he actually does that as well. Yeah,
- 16:47that's or you do both. Because it's when when I hear like the
- 16:52quarterbacks, and especially like in college football, some of them are just incredible.
- 16:56I'm like, of course you're the quarterback, and they're always ridiculously good
- 17:00looking dude, Like I know the Georgia quarterback is the one with stets in
- 17:03something before. Yes, yeah, that's just ridiculous. I'm like, come
- 17:08on, man, like you knew, like they gave birth to it,
- 17:12like they're like and push and pass like that's what that's how it happened.
- 17:18Like that's that's why I say, like, and I joke about Indians,
- 17:22but you're never gonna be You're never gonna be sitting at a bar and be
- 17:25like, ah, man, did Pataiale throw another interception? And like that's
- 17:29not going to be. Uh, you know, you're not gonna have a
- 17:32starting quarterback with an Indian Indian last name. It's not gonna happen for a
- 17:36very long time. Well, you mentioned the quarterback, you know, good
- 17:38looking scale have you seen Notre Dame's quarterback? I have not this year?
- 17:45I have not is he is? He? Is it? Handsl fella.
- 17:49He that honestly might be an understatement. Yes, and say that as a
- 17:55as a as a straight red blooded American male. But Sam, he's a
- 17:59beautiful man starting yeah, Sam Hard mm hmmm, Sam okay, Well,
- 18:04and you're right when when when he came out of the womb, he will
- 18:08yeah, I mean he was a photo shoot ready. Yeah, he's he's
- 18:12yeah, he's the he's Yeah. He should be in every outdoor movie from
- 18:17now on. Uh and an outdoor any any outdoor adventure. But he's he's
- 18:22what, he's what every guy in every Lifetime movie looks like. I was
- 18:26actually going to say, if he's not starring in every single Hallmark Channel film,
- 18:30then they should just shut the network down. Heart to Hartman, Yeah,
- 18:41that's a good looking guy. That's a that's a handsome fellow there.
- 18:45Good good for him. See that's what I'm saying. Like they that's how
- 18:48they do it. They go, what's his name? Sam Hart? Sam
- 18:51like, ah, he could be. Let's see what he looks like.
- 18:55And then Sam walked in like, yeah, he's the quarterback. I mean,
- 18:56that's clearly the face of army. When you're looking than the than the
- 19:00brawny paper towel Man. Yeah, that's a Okay, that's a that's solid.
- 19:11By my theory is coming My theory is coming true. Which, by
- 19:15the way, you know who else was a starting quarterback at Notre Dame Joey
- 19:19Montana. That's correct. You're listening to the tree House. Visit us online,
- 19:29that treehouse on air dot com. You're listening to the tree House.
- 19:48Visit us online, that treehouse on air dot com. In addition, ron
- 20:00to the money that's paid to starting quarterbacks, which does not leave a whole
- 20:04lot of money left for other quarterbacks on the team or other positions, there
- 20:11is another glaring reason to answer your question why there's such a drop off from
- 20:15QB one to QB two. Right, What I'm what I'm saying, not
- 20:19even the drop off. What I'm saying is is the bond between that starting
- 20:25quarterback and the rest of that team so critical? Because everybody's made it to
- 20:30the NFL the elite of the elite, so one in one hundred and eighty
- 20:33thousand people will make it to the NFL. They've made it. So is
- 20:37it and this is my question, is that bond between QB one and the
- 20:41rest of the team that critical that if they go down QB, two steps
- 20:47in and they can go you know what, that's season. Like when Aaron
- 20:49Rodgers went down, the color commentary basically went, well, there go the
- 20:52Jets. That's a wrap. Well, and again that's because they knew who
- 20:59the backup was. To answer your question, and a lot of this is
- 21:03the answer is yes, that that bond is that tight because almost every collective
- 21:08bargaining agreement that they've done in the last twenty years has shortened the practice time
- 21:14they have, so the number of snaps that they take in practice is very
- 21:18limited, and so the first team quarterback gets all the snaps like literally,
- 21:22gotcha? Okay, I mean unless there's a week where there they think it's
- 21:27like the end of the year or whatever and they know they're going to play
- 21:30the backup, he might get ten percent of the snaps. Dan, you
- 21:33you've covered football, you know better than I would about that. But all
- 21:37in all, like it's all the first team, so all and everything in
- 21:40the NFL is so much timing that if so when you put someone else in
- 21:45there, the you know, the new field general and they're not used to
- 21:48hearing them. That's why that's why a lot of times you see the off
- 21:49side, like the false starts and all that other stuff. It's just so
- 21:52different. The more you do anything, typically, the better at it you
- 21:57will become. Yeah, yeah, okay. That you may not necessarily get
- 22:03better at it because at a certain point you may hit a you know,
- 22:04you may hit a ceiling or a wall. But at the very least you'll
- 22:08get more comfortable doing it. Yeah, okay, And I guess and then
- 22:12everybody else around you gets that that comfort factor. But because I would,
- 22:18I would assume by now the Jets would be in rhythm with Zach Wilson,
- 22:23right, I assume that, But but I guess not because there is a
- 22:27potential of Aaron Rodgers coming back. Now, well all but they know,
- 22:30but Zach Wilson is crap, I mean, and they know that. That's
- 22:34It's not like it's an unknown factor that, oh, we just got this
- 22:37guy in and you know, he's the second string quarterback, but we think
- 22:41he'll do great things. But when they know it's one in one hundred and
- 22:47eighty thousand people will make it to the NFL and he's one of them.
- 22:49So but let's also keep in mind wise that that while that statistic is accurate.
- 22:56NFL scouts miss like they they are just as fallible as anybody else in
- 23:02any other profession because they have missed many, many, many, many many
- 23:04times over the years. They've nailed it a lot, like Troy Aikman's a
- 23:07great example, number one overall pick, Hall of Fame everything. It was
- 23:11everything that the Cowboys hoped he would be, and he became that. Yeah.
- 23:15On the flip side right now, looking at say the forty nine ers
- 23:18Rock Party, Yeah, he wasn't drafted in the first round, wasn't drafted
- 23:22in the second, the third, all the way to the end of the
- 23:26draft. They finally took this kid who sounded whose names sounded more like a
- 23:30porn star than a quarterback, and and he's lights out. Yeah, No,
- 23:36I agree, Like they're for for every for every rock party. You
- 23:40have a Tim Teba, like you have this great college quarterback who just I
- 23:45mean just panned out, I mean just so quickly in the NFL. And
- 23:49or who's the quarterback for the Cardinals? Uh first, who was the first
- 23:56round no, no before ages before him, but he washed out very quickly.
- 24:02As while you're talking, Josh Rosen, Yeah, yeah, that's what
- 24:06Yeah, Yeah, yeah, I mean it's but it happens in you know,
- 24:10it happens in all aspects of business. I mean, you know there
- 24:15are major media companies that hire shows that don't even know to turn the microne.
- 24:25So well done. That was that was can I can I say masterful,
- 24:33effortless and skilled at the same time. Well well done and and with
- 24:37the and with the sinus infection, it was like it was like watching Jordan
- 24:41with the flu. That was dominant punchline tray, much like the Cowboys dominant
- 24:52performance over the Giants. That was well done. Man, I got nothing
- 24:57after that. You don't too, So we can put the game against the
- 25:02Giants to bed. Yeah, but now we look forward to the last scheduled
- 25:07noon game for the Cowboys this season against the very Like if you think it
- 25:15was bad enough, how cocky they were going up against the Giants, Now
- 25:18it's the one in eight panthers. Yeah, this is what's the what's the
- 25:26what's the what's the spread on this tray? What's a go into your degenerate
- 25:30gambler mind? It's probably quite a bit, that's what it says. It
- 25:36doesn't that just says quite a bit, like Vegas doesn't even want to take
- 25:38money on the like, no, we don't want this one. What's the
- 25:41over? It says a lot. How does this game have no under?
- 25:53And for if and for being honest about it. So you've got this is
- 25:56actually the beginning of the gauntlet that the Cowboys go through every year. So
- 26:03you've got this game against Carolina, and you've got the next three games are
- 26:07in there are in eleven days. Oh yeah, that's right, because you've
- 26:11got the Panthers. Then you got the Commanders on Thanksgiving. Yeah, and
- 26:18then and I'm brain farting, who's right up after that? But the Cowboys
- 26:22need there's there's one more than the Eagles. Oh gotcha? Okay, ten
- 26:30and a half and forty two? Okay, okay, ten and a half
- 26:36of the points forty two? Give me the over. Yeah, just give
- 26:40me the over. And you know that, you know, the Panthers are
- 26:45like, just let it be over. I don't even know who's playing quarterback
- 26:49for the Panthers. Yeah, I don't, Sam Hartman. Ironically, it
- 26:56is not he's still notre dude. It's uh No, You've got you've got
- 27:02Panthers Commanders, then Seahawks, then the Eagles. So based on that the
- 27:08Cowboys need to be They better be. I stopped sort of using the word
- 27:14should because I know better. They better win those three because they're gonna need
- 27:18those going into their December schedule, because the December schedule is brutal, because
- 27:22once they go through these next three, they need to be nine and three
- 27:27because then then they get the the Eagles rematch, followed by the Bills,
- 27:33the Dolphins, the Lions who are still shockingly good. Yes, and then
- 27:37the Commanders again at home. That is a brutal December. So they need
- 27:40to win these next three. Yes, Uh, it's it's a quarterback for
- 27:45the is Bryce Young former husband Trophy winner? Is the Panthers quarterback? Yeah,
- 27:52that's a that's a brutal schedule and and and god blest me. Yeah,
- 27:56I'm let's uh, let's yeah again going into a one and eight team,
- 28:00like the Bills are one of the more puzzling teams that I've seen,
- 28:07like to be that talented and yet yeah, just at times that bad and
- 28:12from last year where they were on fire last year and then this year like
- 28:18they were just I mean I watched some of the Bills game this last week
- 28:21and that was just tragic to watch. I don't know if you guys are
- 28:25thinking it, but I am, so I'm going to say it. Okay,
- 28:27Buffalo Bills look a lot like the Dallas Cowboys. Really good the year
- 28:33before, had enough success to think, hey, this year could be their
- 28:37year, but then fell a little short. And then the next year you're
- 28:38like, Okay, no, really, this is really going to be their
- 28:41year, and then out of nowhere, they just suck for no apparent reason.
- 28:45Yeah. I mean, I've never been and you guys know me for
- 28:49a I've never been that guy where I'm like, watch the first game of
- 28:52the season and go, this is our year, Like we're gonna take it
- 28:56to the I've never been that guy. Because again we were talking about it
- 28:59before. Tray is always my he's the e R on my shoulder and he's
- 29:03like, just just wait, we'll f it up. Just give it time.
- 29:07We look great, right, Yeah, Yeah, we scored thirty forty
- 29:11points in the first two games. We'll we'll, we'll f this up,
- 29:17and true to form, we do and trade is like a tod like,
- 29:22I don't know what, I don't know what else you want from it.
- 29:23I told you we're gonna do that. I'm like, that's correct. So
- 29:26I just kind of it's what everybody jumped on Colorado's bandwagon when Dion Sanders went
- 29:32over there and they won their first game against TCU and they're like, it's
- 29:36it's our year, and I'm like, give it time. It was yeah,
- 29:41so yeah, yeah, it's like give it time at the time.
- 29:45You know, that was TCU coming off being in the National Championship Game,
- 29:48and yeah, people didn't realize, oh there, it's hard to stay on
- 29:52top and their crap this year. Yeah, and so so I've always been
- 29:56you say that again a little bit slower, but make a sadder face.
- 30:00I didn't. I didn't pin your ears back to Yeah. So I've always
- 30:15been of that elk where I'm like, you know what, I'll watch every
- 30:18game and I'll base my like we've been. I've been hearing people go,
- 30:22this is our year for thirty years. Let's let's relax, we say it.
- 30:34I'm not trying to be the pessimist. I'm just like, hey,
- 30:37let's no, no, no, that's Trey's thing. You can't have it.
- 30:40That's all his. Yeah, but I do I do like his that,
- 30:47Like I like that, Like I don't I don't say it out loud
- 30:49and Trade does, so I internalize the e or like he lets it out.
- 30:59I don't think i've I mean, I don't know that I've ever been
- 31:04a fan of any team where I've gone into an air going this is our
- 31:07year, We're gonna do it. I mean, the closest I've ever come
- 31:11is the two thousand and five Longhorns, and that was still. I mean,
- 31:18you want to talk about miserable, you should have been with me.
- 31:19I'm at the Rose Bowl in that game, the greatest game in college football
- 31:22history, and I've been half the fourth quarter with by hand in my eyes,
- 31:26you know, answer from my eyes, going oh God, I can't
- 31:29watch this. Yeah. So, well you were at that game. That's
- 31:33amazing. Mm hmm. That was that was That was the the peak of
- 31:37my fandom. Is I had gone to the Rose Bowl game the year before
- 31:41with Texas Michigan, great game, Texas wins last second field goal, went
- 31:45to almost every game of the year, including going up to Ohio State.
- 31:48So that was my pinnacle of football fandom. And then I wanted to see
- 31:52Texas win a national championship, and by god, they gave it to me
- 31:55and Wow, that's that's really cool. I've not and they've been torturing ever
- 32:00since. Oh don't every I mean a bad ill timing, ill timed firing
- 32:10or hiring in college football can set your program back a decade. HI.
- 32:14Speaking of which, let's talk. Let's talk about that Texas A and M
- 32:21has dumped seventy five million dollars into Jumbo Fisher's or Jimbo Fisher's lap to go
- 32:28away. Yes, he will make thirteen thousand I think they roughly is thirteen
- 32:35thousand dollars a day for the next No, it's twenty twenty six thousand dollars
- 32:38a day till two thousand and thirty one. To not coach, to not
- 32:44coach, I have. I have decided that if reincarnation is real, yeah,
- 32:50if I would like to come back as a college football coach. I
- 32:54am now of the belief that that is the greatest job you can have.
- 32:59Of all the jobs, college football coach has got to be one of the
- 33:02best, especially when you just need to be just successful enough to get to
- 33:07a big program like in A and M, and they give you buckets of
- 33:13money, and then they give you more buckets of money, and then they
- 33:19give it to you to go away, and and and highly insulting to the
- 33:23players of the team that don't make anything. So uh yeah that that get
- 33:30all of the uh all of the well, I mean they get stuff from
- 33:34boosters. I mean we all know that, oh they get, but they're
- 33:37they're not getting millions of dollars like the coaching and the universities that basically worth
- 33:42them for free. And it's not like they gave him that extension after he
- 33:46won the SEC. He won his division in the SEC. Yeah, they
- 33:53just had an above average year. And but because of the cult of personality
- 33:58that college football, you know, coaches are, and you know, the
- 34:01mirror talk of him going somewhere else, which was probably all drubbed up by
- 34:07his agent, they rolled out the check book and went, oh, ten
- 34:10or ninety ninety five million dollar, Yeah, ten million a year, basically,
- 34:14yeah bonus. I've got the breakdown here of Texas A and M's payments
- 34:17to Jimbo Fisher after firing him, within sixty days, he will be paid
- 34:22nineteen point four million dollars. Within one hundred twenty days, it'll be seven
- 34:28point twenty seven million dollars. Then for the year twenty twenty five, he
- 34:32will be paid seven point twenty seven million dollars, along with twenty twenty six,
- 34:37twenty twenty seven, twenty twenty eight, twenty twenty nine, twenty thirty
- 34:42and two thousand and thirty one for six straight years, he will receive almost
- 34:49seven point three million dollars to not coach at AMM. Yeah. I need
- 34:53that. I need I need that. I need that. I need to
- 34:57talk to my agent. I'm like, I need to know what how much
- 34:59money Netflix is going to give me to not be on Look, seriously,
- 35:06you can pay me the same amount of money. Actually, you know,
- 35:08you can pay me a lot less to not also be the coach of A
- 35:13and LT. I'm a lot cheaper than Jimbo Fisher. You can pay me
- 35:17fifty thousand dollars a year to not be the head coach at A and M,
- 35:22and I'll take it. Yeah. Yeah, we'll just do one hundred
- 35:23thousand dollars a year and all three of us will split it. To not
- 35:29be the coach for an I will do a great job of that. I
- 35:34would be I would be excellent. I did a great job of not playing
- 35:37in high school. I can be even better not coaching I'm fine with this,
- 35:43Like, that's so ridiculous to me, Like, I don't understand how
- 35:45that works. And with social media now that that has been just picking up
- 35:52so much steep, I don't know. I don't think anything will happen.
- 35:54There's a contract sign I don't think anything's gonna happen with it. But it's
- 35:57just so many people are outraged by this whole thing with Jimbo Fisher. Well,
- 36:02speaking of outrage, just imagine that you're one of those boosters that's paying
- 36:07that. Yeah, yeah, that's right. Absolutely, that's so wild,
- 36:12man, that's so wild. I've never heard it. But they get to
- 36:15it and but here's the thing they get, you know, they get to
- 36:19a point where they're like, fine, I don't want to watch this anymore.
- 36:22Here, here's ten million dollars. Make it go away. And that's
- 36:27that's what I mean. I don't feel sorry for the boosters because they're the
- 36:30ones who forked over the check to sign them to that a ridiculous amount,
- 36:35and then they'll fork it over again to go oh my bad. Oh yeah
- 36:37no, no, don't misconstrue what I was trying to say. I don't
- 36:42feel badly for the Boosters because they clearly have the money to throw down the
- 36:46drain or in this case, at a guy named Jimbo. Yeah, yeah,
- 36:52they're gonna be fine. But I find it hysterical that just because and
- 37:00this this, what this does it it sort of solidifies to me something that
- 37:04I've already believed, that is, just because you have lots and lots of
- 37:08money doesn't necessarily mean you're smart. Oh yeah, when you're right, you're
- 37:22right, Truck Longhorn Boosters aren't. Aren't. Are not? They're not signing
- 37:32that deal. Thank you for hanging out with us here in the Treehouse for
