- 3:34Speaker 2: your story. So I'm excited. I'm ready to go. I'm
- 3:39Speaker 2: gonna I'm gonna add a little razzle dazzle. Let's rock lady. Okay,
- 3:53Speaker 2: We're going to start off by asking you to describe
- 3:56Speaker 2: what being born to the game is to you in
- 3:59Speaker 2: three words. Well, what three words which.
- 4:01Speaker 1: You choose, Born to the game? What does it mean
- 4:04Speaker 1: to me? It's privilege, exposure, and love. M hmmm.
- 4:13Speaker 2: So when you say exposure, what have you been exposed
- 4:16Speaker 2: to in this business?
- 4:17Speaker 1: I think that we have the We have the pleasure
- 4:19Speaker 1: and the gift of being able to be exposed to
- 4:22Speaker 1: a lot of things from birth, things that most of
- 4:25Speaker 1: our peers aren't able to see. We get to see
- 4:28Speaker 1: behind the scenes, we get to see how the sausage
- 4:30Speaker 1: is made. Yes, but we get to see people for
- 4:38Speaker 1: who they really are. I think that it's one thing
- 4:41Speaker 1: that my dad always taught me is to really see people.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And we have that opportunity to see people when they're
- 4:47Speaker 1: not putting up the celebrity kind of facade.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yes. Yes, so we're going to go into identity and influence,
- 4:57Speaker 2: just to segue off of that. And you said behind
- 4:59Speaker 2: the scenes. You you put me right into my next portion,
- 5:03Speaker 2: So you get this behind the scene look of being
- 5:06Speaker 2: doctor Jay's daughter. Growing up, we all know who he is,
- 5:12Speaker 2: so you had a point of view, like you said,
- 5:14Speaker 2: that no one else has seen. So what was that
- 5:17Speaker 2: like from early times? Growing up in a household where
- 5:22Speaker 2: such a great man in stature, he's huge, I'm like,
- 5:28Speaker 2: oh my god, and just being on his shoulders like that?
- 5:32Speaker 2: What is that like?
- 5:34Speaker 1: You know? I was asked this question when I was
- 5:36Speaker 1: twelve years old. My dad was speaking at a college
- 5:39Speaker 1: in Pittsburgh and somebody yelled out, I have a question
- 5:42Speaker 1: for your daughter, and he said, how is it being
- 5:45Speaker 1: Doctor Jay's daughter? And I said to me, He's just dad,
- 5:49Speaker 1: And so it just was, you know, I knew he
- 5:52Speaker 1: was a celebrity, and I knew he was famous, but
- 5:55Speaker 1: at home, he was just dad. So it was really
- 5:58Speaker 1: cool that seeing that that other people admired him in
- 6:02Speaker 1: a different way. We would go out and people would
- 6:05Speaker 1: stop him for autographs and he was always like with
- 6:08Speaker 1: my family now. So it's he protected us in a
- 6:11Speaker 1: way that he made sure that he made time for
- 6:13Speaker 1: us and that we just got to know him as
- 6:16Speaker 1: dad and got to grow up with him his dad.
- 6:18Speaker 2: So as you were growing were you able to travel
- 6:20Speaker 2: with him or were you pretty much know where you were.
- 6:24Speaker 1: We You know, it's funny, we actually used to come
- 6:26Speaker 1: here to Vegas, to this hotel we us when we
- 6:32Speaker 1: were younger. It was a couple older hotels, but I
- 6:34Speaker 1: mean we we always made a family vacation. Our family
- 6:38Speaker 1: vacation traditionally was to Vegas because my dad liked to
- 6:41Speaker 1: gamble a little bit and there was plenty to do
- 6:43Speaker 1: with the kids. My mom would like shuffle us over
- 6:45Speaker 1: to Circus Circus. So when I woke up this morning
- 6:53Speaker 1: and looked out, I was like right back at the beginning.
- 6:56Speaker 1: You know, we spent a lot of time here.
- 6:58Speaker 2: So at what point did you realize your dad is
- 7:01Speaker 2: the doctor? J Do you remember that time?
- 7:05Speaker 1: I remember when my daughter realized. I mean, I think
- 7:10Speaker 1: I always knew. Okay, I always knew because we when
- 7:13Speaker 1: I was young, we were going to games and we
- 7:15Speaker 1: would have run around the spectrum and be in the
- 7:18Speaker 1: bottom parts and in the wives lounge. So it was
- 7:20Speaker 1: something I always knew and I was always aware of.
- 7:24Speaker 1: But he he taught me just to see people differently.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Right, So what kind of kid were you? So when
- 7:28Speaker 2: you were you quiet? Were you more rambunctious?
- 7:31Speaker 1: I was a full time boy. I had three brothers,
- 7:34Speaker 1: so I wrestled and played football with them and did sports,
- 7:39Speaker 1: and I was yes, basketball, I was kept in my
- 7:42Speaker 1: basket my little a story.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Yes, did you ever play dad one? One? Yeah?
- 7:49Speaker 1: Well we would play outside. You've like had a hoop?
- 7:51Speaker 2: Did you wait it? No? Not?
- 7:53Speaker 1: And my brothers would not let me my dad or
- 7:56Speaker 1: my brothers. The one time though, we were in the
- 7:59Speaker 1: south of France and we had gone to find you know,
- 8:02Speaker 1: out to the parks, and we found my brothers found
- 8:04Speaker 1: a pickup game and so they you know, got a
- 8:07Speaker 1: message show us back at the hotel. Hey, you guys
- 8:09Speaker 1: need to come down here. We told them we're playing five,
- 8:11Speaker 1: only five, you know, And it's like my dad, my
- 8:13Speaker 1: little brother and I are at the hotel. So we're like, oh,
- 8:16Speaker 1: you know, all right, we get there and they're like,
- 8:18Speaker 1: no fare this love only told me all ever played together.
- 8:28Speaker 2: That's fun. I love that. Did growing up in a
- 8:32Speaker 2: household with someone as famous as your father affect relationships
- 8:36Speaker 2: with friendships romantic relationships? How was that dynamic? Oh?
- 8:42Speaker 1: Absolutely? I mean I think that it all of us.
- 8:44Speaker 1: It taught us to be like a little bit more guarded.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I think that, you know, like I said, my dad
- 8:50Speaker 1: taught me to see people. So I think that that
- 8:51Speaker 1: was such a good gift that he gave me as
- 8:53Speaker 1: a young person that I am able to kind of
- 8:56Speaker 1: filter people out.
- 8:57Speaker 2: Okay, can you dive into that? And you say you
- 9:00Speaker 2: can see people? What does that mean exactly? Like what
- 9:02Speaker 2: are you looking for?
- 9:03Speaker 1: Meaning to see if people are sincere or not, you know,
- 9:06Speaker 1: or what their motives are or kind of how they
- 9:08Speaker 1: see you.
- 9:09Speaker 2: You know.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Anybody that came up to me was like, so doctor
- 9:12Speaker 1: j And I'm like, if you're not calling him Julius
- 9:14Speaker 1: or your dad or serving, I'm like you probably like
- 9:17Speaker 1: fanning out. Yeah, I'm kind of cool on you know.
- 9:20Speaker 1: It gives me a little bit of reserve, a.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Life skill to learn that early about the field. I mean,
- 9:28Speaker 2: adults don't know how to do that.
- 9:30Speaker 1: No, yeah, this is true.
- 9:33Speaker 2: So when you're in school and you you know, obviously
- 9:37Speaker 2: you were now walk us back a little bit when
- 9:42Speaker 2: your dad was playing while you were a child, right, okay,
- 9:46Speaker 2: so everybody at school knows who you are.
- 9:49Speaker 1: How was that?
- 9:50Speaker 2: It was?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Actually again, it was a blessing. I went to the
- 9:53Speaker 1: same school from preschool to twelfth grade. Wow. So I
- 9:56Speaker 1: had lifelong friends, you know at that point. There was
- 10:00Speaker 1: he was playing when I started, so and he was
- 10:03Speaker 1: not playing when I finished. Okay, okay, But it was
- 10:07Speaker 1: a small enough community that you know, nobody really cared.
- 10:11Speaker 1: If anything. I was like the odd black girl standing out,
- 10:14Speaker 1: you know, not like the celebrities kid.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:17Speaker 1: So it was it was interesting like just with my
- 10:19Speaker 1: group group friend base. But then outside of school, you know,
- 10:22Speaker 1: I would you would hear the rumors, you know, and
- 10:25Speaker 1: you would hear you know, people looking at you kind
- 10:27Speaker 1: of funny like is it over there? When I went
- 10:30Speaker 1: to college, I remember I sharing a down experience. Within
- 10:36Speaker 1: the first week of school. There were eight guys that
- 10:39Speaker 1: said they had slept with me.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Wow.
- 10:41Speaker 1: And they were like I slept doctor day's daughter. I
- 10:43Speaker 1: was like, just like, and one of them actually said
- 10:46Speaker 1: to me when I was in the room, which was hilarious,
- 10:48Speaker 1: and I was like, so, what's her name? You're like
- 10:51Speaker 1: like hello, like and it was funny because by I
- 10:54Speaker 1: went to Spelman and we get paired up with a
- 10:56Speaker 1: Morehouse brother, and so my Morehouse brother was like trying
- 10:59Speaker 1: so hard to laugh because this guy's like, yeah, you know,
- 11:02Speaker 1: I saw her yesterday and he.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Was going on and we just let him. He said,
- 11:06Speaker 2: we just have this t.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Keep going, keep going. So, you know, you if you
- 11:12Speaker 1: learn to kind of ignore what other people are gonna say,
- 11:15Speaker 1: you know, what other people have in mind of what
- 11:18Speaker 1: your life is like or your perception, and you just
- 11:20Speaker 1: kind of hold onto your true self. So they both
- 11:23Speaker 1: of my parents grounded me in that way.
- 11:25Speaker 2: Do you think it's giving me your tough skin? Oh?
- 11:27Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely? And then having three brothers growing up like
- 11:30Speaker 1: that'll do.
- 11:31Speaker 2: There is something to having I'm I'm the only girl too.
- 11:34Speaker 2: There is something about having all brothers. You really become
- 11:37Speaker 2: this other like you have. You have to have skin
- 11:40Speaker 2: or you're not gonna survive.
- 11:41Speaker 1: You're everybody's gonna be gone.
- 11:43Speaker 2: Sure foose you know you're gonna fall in the in
- 11:45Speaker 2: the toilet exactly, exactly. Yeah, we're already in the toilet exactly.
- 11:50Speaker 2: We just just a compensation. All right. We are now
- 11:53Speaker 2: at the halftime segment of the show. We're going to
- 11:56Speaker 2: be playing two games with Jasmine. The first one is
- 11:59Speaker 2: the thirty second shot clock. We're gonna be asking her
- 12:02Speaker 2: this or that questions and then my favorite, the family
- 12:06Speaker 2: feed fast money because I'm not gonna lose. You're so competitive, right,
- 12:10Speaker 2: you really need I got that from my dad. Yeah,
- 12:12Speaker 2: that's true. You get that.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I did too.
- 12:14Speaker 2: You're competitive. So again the brothers thing I did do.
- 12:17Speaker 1: The one thing you sleek kids, I'm coming for you.
- 12:21Speaker 2: It's gonna be a blood bathroom right here at the
- 12:23Speaker 2: way hotel. Okay, okay, thank god you in the middle,
- 12:27Speaker 2: right all right, So let's start with the thirty second
- 12:30Speaker 2: shot clock. So again it's thirty seconds. I'm gonna ask
- 12:33Speaker 2: you this or that questions and you just keep trying
- 12:36Speaker 2: to answer the US back as many as you can.
- 12:38Speaker 2: And I think got through like he got through like ten.
- 12:46Speaker 1: So you're like yes or nose right, They're very quick.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Okay, So see if you can if you're competitive, I
- 12:50Speaker 2: don't know. I'm going to get through more.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Going for it.
- 12:53Speaker 2: Let's zeke you not even hear ze go? Well we
- 12:56Speaker 2: after you? Okay, all right, ready, all right, I gonna
- 12:59Speaker 2: give you three two one and start. Okay, three two

- 13:16Speaker 2: Vegas or leaves Vegas?
- 13:18Speaker 1: Actually leaves Vegas?
- 13:19Speaker 2: Sometimes cash apprizelle zel It's honesty ten seconds, It's honestly
- 13:24Speaker 2: always the best policy. Yes, would would rather be thirsty
- 13:27Speaker 2: in the desert or freezing in a blizzard, thirsty in
- 13:30Speaker 2: the desert. Playlist or podcast playlist, lost phone or lost computer?
- 13:34Speaker 1: Lost computer? Yeah that was good. I met my partner
- 13:41Speaker 1: in Vegas. So oh sometimes sometimes it.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Leaves. Look, if you want to talk about that, we can.
- 13:52Speaker 2: So I'm gonna put on our headphones so that y'all
- 13:56Speaker 2: know I'm not trying to cheat. You know, I want
- 13:58Speaker 2: to win last.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Those like the headphones my daughters, I'm I don't know
- 14:06Speaker 1: if those are real sound blockers.
- 14:07Speaker 2: You know ya, you're gonna see because I'm super high.
- 14:12Speaker 2: We tried it out because Mariah does just say you
- 14:15Speaker 2: cheated in the last game. Cheated. I don't think you
- 14:19Speaker 2: cheat it, Okay. I love you more than anything, and
- 14:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna tell you to cheat it. Okay. Anyway, I'm
- 14:26Speaker 2: going for the bottom. So are you ready ready? Okay?

- 14:35Speaker 2: but it's fast. Okay, Okay. Name something you give your
- 14:38Speaker 2: mom on Mother's Day jewelry. Name something you would spend on,
- 14:44Speaker 2: lottery winnings, a home. Name something you would wear on
- 14:49Speaker 2: your face mess scaramm Name something that you would eat
- 14:55Speaker 2: at a festival or fair funnel cake? Uh, last one.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Name something you would do right before you go to bed. Pray, Okay,
- 15:11Speaker 2: let me tell you up real quick. And this is

- 15:21Speaker 2: don't work. Okay, Here we go, Here we go, Here
- 15:23Speaker 2: we go, Here we go. Name something you give a
- 15:25Speaker 2: mom a Mother's day flowers. Name something you would spend
- 15:28Speaker 2: on lottery, winnings, a house. Nope, vacation. Name something you
- 15:35Speaker 2: wear on your face make up? Nope, what glasses? Name
- 15:44Speaker 2: a popular food at a festival or fair, con Kenny,

- 16:02Speaker 2: she and now she beat that.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 16:06Speaker 2: All right, let's tally it. I think, Maria, I want again,
- 16:10Speaker 2: I don't think so Okay, I told y'all I was
- 16:16Speaker 2: I was not cheating. I want that on record. The
- 16:19Speaker 2: jasmine has confirmed I didn't cheat. I hope. I want yes.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Oh no, you did it, dang, jasmine.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Wait a minute, Wait a minute, I know I gave
- 16:35Speaker 1: one really wonky answer.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Let's see you did I did by how much? A lot?
- 16:45Speaker 2: Only because only because and you said this yesterday, because
- 16:49Speaker 2: the right before bed question you were like, people don't
- 16:54Speaker 2: pray anymore. Pray, you pray. So you went with one
- 17:00Speaker 2: hundred eight points. Who's going to take her down? Somebody
- 17:05Speaker 2: our next guest. I want somebody to take her down,
- 17:07Speaker 2: because you know.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I've got brothers, all.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Right, So let's dive back into it. And this is
- 17:19Speaker 2: my favorite question. I want someone to ask me this question. Okay,
- 17:22Speaker 2: let me ask you, no, this is about jasmine. What's
- 17:26Speaker 2: one part about being born to the game that would
- 17:28Speaker 2: surprise people? Or you can break a stereotype or share
- 17:31Speaker 2: something unexpected about the lifestyle.
- 17:37Speaker 1: I think it is when you actually meet the celebrity,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you know, the celebrity people around you, it's surprising to
- 17:43Speaker 1: see who's nice and wow. I bet you have some
- 17:46Speaker 1: stories about that, and I think I have some have
- 17:48Speaker 1: some great stories. I can't share all drop names, but
- 17:54Speaker 1: I won't drop names. But there was there was a
- 17:56Speaker 1: player when I was young, I never believed in all.
- 18:00Speaker 1: I just thought that they were the silliest things in
- 18:02Speaker 1: the world, like why and my brothers would clamor to
- 18:05Speaker 1: get autographs from people. And there was a player that
- 18:08Speaker 1: had come to Philly and he wasn't playing, and my
- 18:12Speaker 1: little brother was like, I want to go over and
- 18:14Speaker 1: ask him for an autograph. This is during a game.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And so my mom, you know, nudge memes like take
- 18:20Speaker 1: your little brother over there. And we went over to
- 18:23Speaker 1: him and it's like, hey, you know, my brother wants
- 18:25Speaker 1: an autograph. And he's like, you kids, get away from me. Oh,
- 18:28Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, I don't like him, And
- 18:32Speaker 1: so I went back, and my mom was like pissed off,
- 18:35Speaker 1: and she's like, well, I'm saying something to your dad.
- 18:37Speaker 1: And after the game, we went into you know, back
- 18:40Speaker 1: into the undergrounds of the of the arena, and my
- 18:44Speaker 1: mom like pushed my dad to make sure that he
- 18:47Speaker 1: introduced us, and not so much so that we could
- 18:50Speaker 1: meet him, but more so to make him look like
- 18:52Speaker 1: an idiot. Right, And the guy was like, oh you
- 18:55Speaker 1: jocks kids.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Oh that was gonna be my question. Did he know
- 18:58Speaker 2: who you were?
- 18:59Speaker 1: He his whole tune change That goes back to me
- 19:03Speaker 1: like seeing people's like, so I didn't like him for
- 19:06Speaker 1: a really long time. No, I'm actually kind of cool
- 19:08Speaker 1: with it. Okay, I get I don't like him for
- 19:11Speaker 1: years because I saw that switch, Like, you know, you
- 19:14Speaker 1: can't you should treat people the same, whether they're affiliating.
- 19:17Speaker 2: Man, did you ever ever come up later early you
- 19:19Speaker 2: did have conversation? Did he apologize? Yeah?
- 19:25Speaker 1: Okay, And he was like yeah, I was getting new
- 19:27Speaker 1: to the game, you know, I like yeah, but you
- 19:29Speaker 1: know it was like it was a lesson for me
- 19:30Speaker 1: more than anything.
- 19:31Speaker 2: And you know what, it could have been a lesson
- 19:33Speaker 2: for him too in that moment. Yeah, right, She just
- 19:36Speaker 2: doesn't matter who you are, Just be kind.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:39Speaker 2: Kind, And hopefully he didn't brush off any more kids
- 19:41Speaker 2: after you guys.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Have I hope not. I hope it taught him something. Well.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I will say, like I I do have an experience,
- 19:47Speaker 2: not exact, but with players I've always had. I when
- 19:53Speaker 2: dad was working in New York, I worked for Madison
- 19:56Speaker 2: Square Garden, the Garden Dreams Foundation, Shout out to you guys.
- 19:58Speaker 2: It was a sad garden, an amazing experience. I worked
- 20:01Speaker 2: with underprivileged kids and extremely sick kids like sick. There
- 20:07Speaker 2: was one time I had I was hosting a kid
- 20:10Speaker 2: for Christmas and I'll never forget. I was running around.
- 20:13Speaker 2: I got him this gift basket. You know, he was
- 20:16Speaker 2: finally going to be able to leave the hospital to
- 20:18Speaker 2: come to a Christmas game. I got everything ready for him,
- 20:21Speaker 2: and he passed away.
- 20:23Speaker 1: Like it was.
- 20:24Speaker 2: It was extremely tough to work through those moments knowing
- 20:28Speaker 2: that I may see this kid on Monday and he
- 20:31Speaker 2: may pass away, but like we were making their last
- 20:33Speaker 2: wishes come true. But I'm saying that to say some
- 20:36Speaker 2: people may not realize that our players are amazing with
- 20:42Speaker 2: our kids, but they're also very sensitive to that. So
- 20:45Speaker 2: I've actually had a lot of players on the NIXT team.
- 20:48Speaker 2: If I were to say to them, hey, can you,
- 20:51Speaker 2: you know, make this kid's you know, last dream come true,
- 20:54Speaker 2: some of them get really really nervous and sad that
- 21:00Speaker 2: seeing them that's going to be their last thing that
- 21:02Speaker 2: they remember. And so you know, you see these big
- 21:05Speaker 2: macho athletes, but a lot of them actually variants. Yeah,
- 21:10Speaker 2: can be very vulnerable in times like that. So just
- 21:14Speaker 2: to piggyback off them, I know, I remember when you
- 21:17Speaker 2: worked that job, and it was I'm so passionate about it.
- 21:20Speaker 2: It was really cool and I really enjoyed seeing our
- 21:23Speaker 2: players interact with the kids. But I do remember there
- 21:26Speaker 2: are some players who are like, now, how sick is he?
- 21:29Speaker 2: Like is he really really sick? And I'm like yeah,
- 21:31Speaker 2: and they're like, oh, you know, and they you know,
- 21:34Speaker 2: sometimes that would be hard.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Like yeah, I love that you were kids too.
- 21:40Speaker 2: I always love it and love I miss it. Shout
- 21:43Speaker 2: out to gardines. I love that. So hey, we we
- 21:48Speaker 2: talked about your early days. You were you had a
- 21:52Speaker 2: pretty streamline you were there. I mean, that's really amazing
- 21:54Speaker 2: you went from pre k to twelfth grade. That doesn't
- 21:56Speaker 2: happen a lot, especially in this community of the game
- 22:04Speaker 2: family members that we have here, it is and that's
- 22:07Speaker 2: how we think of it as a family. And so
- 22:09Speaker 2: hearing everyone's stories, sometimes there's a lot of similarities, but
- 22:13Speaker 2: then there's also differences, which is great. So that's the
- 22:15Speaker 2: first time I've ever heard that you were there. I've
- 22:17Speaker 2: ever heard Have you heard another guests say they were
- 22:19Speaker 2: there from pre k to twelfth grade? It's not common.
- 22:22Speaker 2: It's not common at all. So, yeah, so your early
- 22:24Speaker 2: years were are pretty you know, I don't I don't
- 22:27Speaker 2: want to say stable, but just you know, stable, okay, considering.
- 22:30Speaker 1: Okay, absolutely, Okay, great, So Mama locked it down.
- 22:34Speaker 2: I love that.
- 22:35Speaker 1: She said, Look, yeah, I actually had perfect attendance when
- 22:38Speaker 1: I graduated, and I graduated from eighth grade, like when
- 22:41Speaker 1: transition from eighth enh grade, I had perfect attendance. Yeah.
- 22:45Speaker 1: My mom was like your my mom and my dad
- 22:46Speaker 1: they're like, your job is school, So yeah, that's what
- 22:48Speaker 1: you're gonna do.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Yeah, I as what. They did a great job with
- 22:51Speaker 2: that as well. Yeah, well, since you brought her up,
- 22:52Speaker 2: I'm gonna I'm gonna take a second here. You brought
- 22:54Speaker 2: her up, so let's talk about your mom for tell
- 22:56Speaker 2: us about her, tell us about her just growing up
- 23:00Speaker 2: as well.
- 23:00Speaker 1: She my mom is she's from North Carolina, so she's
- 23:03Speaker 1: that good old southern, down down home girl that doesn't play.
- 23:08Speaker 1: It doesn't play. So she I mean, I love my mom.
- 23:10Speaker 1: She actually lives back in North Carolina. Now. She's a
- 23:13Speaker 1: wonderful woman. She just she gave us a lot of
- 23:16Speaker 1: foundation and taught us about family. She was a stay
- 23:20Speaker 1: at home mom, but her job was making us feel
- 23:24Speaker 1: like we were family. And I think that that's why
- 23:27Speaker 1: we always took our family vacations and why I always
- 23:31Speaker 1: felt like Dad was just dad, because she made sure
- 23:34Speaker 1: that there were no there was no showboating on the inside.
- 23:37Speaker 1: It was about doing your chores and you know, and
- 23:40Speaker 1: and yes we had help, but we still had to
- 23:43Speaker 1: get up and make our bed, and wash our laundry
- 23:45Speaker 1: and and things like that, and and clean the kitchen.
- 23:48Speaker 1: And you know, she she held us down. So I
- 23:50Speaker 1: think that when I was younger, I hated it, as
- 23:53Speaker 1: we all did. I hated being the only girl because
- 23:55Speaker 1: I was like, what did they get to wear what
- 23:56Speaker 1: they want to wear and they get to do what
- 23:58Speaker 1: they want to do. But as I became an adult,
- 24:01Speaker 1: I realized that she built such a foundation into all
- 24:03Speaker 1: of us on how to be good people and how
- 24:06Speaker 1: to be responsible adults.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I love that. Yeah, thank you for sharing. Yeah, Mom,
- 24:10Speaker 2: So you have a great support system. So talk about
- 24:15Speaker 2: the challenges and how important your support system was. Just
- 24:19Speaker 2: the challenges of being born to the game. It can
- 24:21Speaker 2: be early or even you know, just moving along in life.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Some of the bigger challenges you have to face and
- 24:28Speaker 2: how you overcame the challenges.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think that the biggest challenges is
- 24:34Speaker 1: other people's perceptions and knowing that I have like wanting
- 24:39Speaker 1: to stay true to myself. I had a job in college,
- 24:42Speaker 1: right out of college or write in college. I was
- 24:45Speaker 1: working at Roflaurin. I was like my little college job was.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I wanted to be in fashion so bad. And I
- 24:53Speaker 1: remember I was having a conversation with one of my
- 24:55Speaker 1: coworkers because they had signed us up for some like
- 24:58Speaker 1: crazy schedule with inventory and so forth. And it was
- 25:03Speaker 1: a visiting manager was in town because our manager was
- 25:07Speaker 1: like on a two week vacation, and so this guy
- 25:09Speaker 1: all he knew was that I was doctor Ja's daughter,
- 25:11Speaker 1: and he didn't know anything about me. He didn't know
- 25:13Speaker 1: anything about my work ethic or what I stood for anything.
- 25:17Speaker 1: And he overheard this conversation and he's like, you know,
- 25:21Speaker 1: not everybody's father is paying there. And it was like
- 25:23Speaker 1: he said something to me that was just so off
- 25:26Speaker 1: cuff for not what I was talking about or even
- 25:31Speaker 1: knowing me. It was just like an assumption that he
- 25:33Speaker 1: had and I went off on the turquoise and Meeta,
- 25:36Speaker 1: I was like that North Carolina, and I ended up
- 25:42Speaker 1: having to curse him out. Yeah yeah, And I pulled
- 25:45Speaker 1: a full Jerry Maguire job. I love it. And I
- 25:54Speaker 1: waited until he went back to corporate and our old
- 25:56Speaker 1: manager came back in and told him what happened, and
- 25:59Speaker 1: he hired me right back. I was like, yeah, there's
- 26:02Speaker 1: some things I'm not dealing with. And and I think that,
- 26:05Speaker 1: you know, we've been fortunate enough to be able to
- 26:07Speaker 1: beat have the advantage to walk away sometimes, but it
- 26:11Speaker 1: is about, you know, seeing how people react to you
- 26:14Speaker 1: and and and for me, that was that was always
- 26:16Speaker 1: hard when people made assumptions about who they thought I
- 26:19Speaker 1: was or what they thought I stood for without really
- 26:22Speaker 1: getting to know me.
- 26:23Speaker 2: And also like counting your money, don't count my money,
- 26:25Speaker 2: don't don't count my money, don't don't tell me what
- 26:28Speaker 2: I can cannot. Don't don't do that, right, that's yeah.
- 26:33Speaker 2: So do you think that there was this immense amount
- 26:36Speaker 2: of pressure on you to fill these shoes or try
- 26:39Speaker 2: to live up to other people's expectations, or to work
- 26:42Speaker 2: harder because you naturally think that, oh, you know, I
- 26:46Speaker 2: don't want people to think that I'm only getting these
- 26:49Speaker 2: jobs because of my father, so I need to work
- 26:50Speaker 2: ten times harder to prove myself. Did that ever happen
- 26:53Speaker 2: to you?
- 26:54Speaker 1: Yeah? Absolutely, I mean I think it was. My dad
- 26:57Speaker 1: was he was very much about basketball icon but he
- 27:02Speaker 1: wasn't into a lot of other businesses. And so as
- 27:05Speaker 1: I developed, you know, my career and where I wanted
- 27:08Speaker 1: to be, I always wanted to work with children, So
- 27:10Speaker 1: you don't get a lot of advantages working with kids
- 27:13Speaker 1: just being doctor chased. So it wasn't you know, I
- 27:17Speaker 1: didn't have a lot of jobs that I came into
- 27:19Speaker 1: because of affiliation. It was always because of the networking
- 27:23Speaker 1: that I did and kind of the drive, and a
- 27:26Speaker 1: lot of them were not high paying jobs, and so
- 27:29Speaker 1: for me, it was it was it was about proving myself.
- 27:33Speaker 1: But I think in a way, it was more like
- 27:36Speaker 1: proving myself to my family and proving myself to my
- 27:40Speaker 1: peers that I didn't have to take this high profile,
- 27:44Speaker 1: celebrity kind of job. That I could work, you know,
- 27:47Speaker 1: with Boys and Girls Club or you know, I could
- 27:50Speaker 1: I could work with Salvation Army and still feel really
- 27:54Speaker 1: fulfilled without having to have that high title, high paying position.
- 27:58Speaker 2: So that perfectly segues. And you are now in next segment. So,
- 28:02Speaker 2: and you briefly touched on it. But where are you now?
- 28:05Speaker 2: You know, as far as your business? You know what,
- 28:08Speaker 2: what are you passionate about? What is your calling in life?
- 28:10Speaker 2: You talked about children, So where did that love for
- 28:13Speaker 2: working with children come from? What are you working on now?
- 28:17Speaker 1: Well? Now I am I always have to pause before
- 28:20Speaker 1: I say that I'm a crystal miner.
- 28:23Speaker 2: So you don't hear that crystal miner? A crystal miner?
- 28:27Speaker 2: Have you? But can we can we say this like
- 28:30Speaker 2: so that you can segue into it. Yes, let's talk
- 28:32Speaker 2: about the history you made, yes with your crystal mining.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Are you not the first black crystal miner?
- 28:40Speaker 1: Yes, the first black crystal mind owners? Okay, yes, at
- 28:45Speaker 1: there's been a lot of black crystal miners.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Okay, so let's let's repeat that.
- 28:48Speaker 1: So you are so, we're my business partner and I
- 28:51Speaker 1: were the first black women to own a domestic crystal
- 28:54Speaker 1: mind wow. And so we own a mine in Georgia.
- 28:57Speaker 1: We're part owners of a mine in Georgia, Amethyst Mine.
- 29:00Speaker 1: And it came to be from doing a good deed.
- 29:04Speaker 1: We picked up a stranded driver while we were up
- 29:08Speaker 1: in Carolina wild and we were it was during the pandemic,
- 29:14Speaker 1: and we were driving along and we saw him waving
- 29:17Speaker 1: his arms, so we stopped to help him and he
- 29:20Speaker 1: hit a deer. Had been stranded out there for hours
- 29:23Speaker 1: with no cell reception, and so we just knew it
- 29:27Speaker 1: was the right thing to do, was to you know,
- 29:28Speaker 1: help him. We drove him to get a call triple A,
- 29:31Speaker 1: waited for him for a triple A, and then drove
- 29:34Speaker 1: him back to the town, which was like a seven
- 29:36Speaker 1: hour ordeal.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Okay, did you have Lord's work? Because I was going
- 29:39Speaker 2: to say, did you have any like just fear because
- 29:44Speaker 2: nowadays I am not picking up anyone, But that also
- 29:48Speaker 2: is a testament to who you are.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, so, was there a moment I grew
- 29:52Speaker 1: up in Philly so I keep a golf club in
- 29:54Speaker 1: my car, so you.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Take it.
- 29:58Speaker 1: We really need to. It was my best friend and
- 30:00Speaker 1: I are kids and my godsister, so I was like,
- 30:04Speaker 1: you know, just five of us, we can get him
- 30:07Speaker 1: if we need to. But I think he was more
- 30:09Speaker 1: scared of us. I just remember he was in the
- 30:13Speaker 1: back of the car because well, you know, we finally
- 30:15Speaker 1: got to be like put a mask on because it's
- 30:17Speaker 1: like height a pandemic. And he was in the back
- 30:19Speaker 1: of the car and he was rubbing his hands with
- 30:20Speaker 1: purell like this, and he looked terrified, like I think
- 30:24Speaker 1: I've been kidnapped.
- 30:28Speaker 2: I mean, let's be for real. He probably felt the
- 30:31Speaker 2: exact opposite. Being in a car you're gonna be well, yeah, he.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Was a little nervous. But then we were like, we're
- 30:40Speaker 1: black mombing you, like, we've got snacks, yeah, water, We're
- 30:44Speaker 1: gonna take care of you.
- 30:45Speaker 2: But yeah.
- 30:46Speaker 1: We we sat in the woods, and you know, it
- 30:48Speaker 1: was kind of what are you doing in the middle
- 30:49Speaker 1: of the woods, you know, and trying to strike up conversation,
- 30:52Speaker 1: and we mentioned something about crystals and he said, I
- 30:56Speaker 1: own crystal windes and we looked at him, like, who
- 30:58Speaker 1: does that? And so we started showing us pictures, and
- 31:02Speaker 1: you know, long story short, we stayed in touch with him,
- 31:05Speaker 1: and he invited us to come to his mind as
- 31:07Speaker 1: a thank you, and we went. It was about four
- 31:10Speaker 1: months after meeting him. We met him and his team
- 31:13Speaker 1: up in northern Nevada. We drove up this mountain to
- 31:16Speaker 1: the top where there's like smoky courts, crystals everywhere, and
- 31:21Speaker 1: my best friend and I looked at each other it
- 31:23Speaker 1: was like, I think we're miners now, but at that moment,
- 31:26Speaker 1: it was like immediately, and so we the next day
- 31:29Speaker 1: we came down and you know, we're washing crystals in
- 31:32Speaker 1: the sink in the hotel room, and the idea for
- 31:35Speaker 1: our company was born. And so we called him the
- 31:38Speaker 1: next day and we're like, we're miners now, wow.
- 31:41Speaker 2: And he was like, but I kind of invited you.
- 31:44Speaker 1: We're like, can't take that. We're family forever, so and
- 31:48Speaker 1: now we are like we we are part owners with
- 31:50Speaker 1: him of the mine in Georgia, and his whole team
- 31:53Speaker 1: is like our whole team, and we go, you know,
- 31:56Speaker 1: several times a year and go mine as a family.
- 31:58Speaker 1: When we're in Georgia, we actually all stay in the
- 32:00Speaker 1: house together, so it's like we all cook our little
- 32:03Speaker 1: mining meals together and they didn't know that they were
- 32:06Speaker 1: gonna have two like young black sisters. And because it's
- 32:08Speaker 1: like an old it's very much an old, you know.
- 32:10Speaker 1: Our most of our partners are over sixty five. Yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 1: so they're like the little I love that and it's
- 32:20Speaker 1: just beautiful. It's it's it's the most fun. And we
- 32:24Speaker 1: get to do that, you know, several times a year.
- 32:26Speaker 1: And then we've turned it into a business where we
- 32:29Speaker 1: now teach kids about mineralogy. So we teach about a
- 32:32Speaker 1: thousand kids a month through and connect us.
- 32:35Speaker 2: With your your passion for Yeah, it like brought me
- 32:38Speaker 2: full circle.
- 32:39Speaker 1: Like we brought me full like absolutely full circle. When
- 32:42Speaker 1: we started it, we our concept is we leave the
- 32:45Speaker 1: crystals dirty and allow you to wash them yourself. And
- 32:48Speaker 1: so we started doing like little pop ups and you know,
- 32:51Speaker 1: doing we have like a kit that we mail out.
- 32:54Speaker 1: But during the pop ups, we kept getting approached by
- 32:56Speaker 1: teachers saying, my kids would love this. And so we
- 33:00Speaker 1: you know, put a little plan together and started calling
- 33:03Speaker 1: local schools and a couple of them took us in,
- 33:06Speaker 1: you know, to test us out. And after we got
- 33:09Speaker 1: the first few they just started rolling and rolling.
- 33:12Speaker 2: In And this is all in Georgia.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I know this is in La. I live in La.
- 33:16Speaker 1: So we do it all throughout LA. So three of
- 33:18Speaker 1: the major school systems in LA we're in. And we
- 33:22Speaker 1: work with after school programs like Boys and Girls Club
- 33:25Speaker 1: and y m c A and so we just.
- 33:27Speaker 2: Like you, just like that I wanted to do I've
- 33:31Speaker 2: always wanted to wash crystals.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I have never done it. I brought some crystal ladies.
- 33:37Speaker 1: You are.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I've never done it. You know what's crazy. I'm excited.
- 33:42Speaker 2: So Jazz then, and we didn't talk about this yet,
- 33:45Speaker 2: but you are an amazing golfer. We didn't talk about
- 33:48Speaker 2: So you didn't play basketball.
- 33:50Speaker 1: I did, Yeah, I did.
- 33:53Speaker 2: You did play, but you didn't pursue That's what I
- 33:56Speaker 2: meant to say. You didn't pursue them.
- 33:57Speaker 1: And didn't have the best team. I love, Simon.
- 34:01Speaker 2: You didn't pursue basketball, but you golf. Yeah, and you're
- 34:05Speaker 2: an amazing golfer. And we've worked with Jazz at our
- 34:10Speaker 2: golf tournaments and she's brought her crystals and every time
- 34:14Speaker 2: I'm always too busy to do it. And so I'm working,
- 34:17Speaker 2: I'm running around.
- 34:18Speaker 1: And so I just I can't today and make you
- 34:22Speaker 1: some cool jelry out of the pieces that you guys watch.
- 34:24Speaker 2: So yeah, yay, okay, let's do this. We have beautiful
- 34:31Speaker 2: crystals in front of us. This is my first time
- 34:35Speaker 2: having the opportunities clean and you know, make jewelry out
- 34:41Speaker 2: of your beautiful crystal. So can you just walk us
- 34:43Speaker 2: through jasmine, your company, how you got started, just the
- 34:48Speaker 2: whole process of crystal mining and crystal cleaning and what
- 34:52Speaker 2: we're going to be doing.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Well, we were called because I Rock and our tagline
- 34:57Speaker 1: is a new way to crystal because we're doing something
- 34:58Speaker 1: a little different. We want to give back to people
- 35:01Speaker 1: the same experience that we got the first time that
- 35:03Speaker 1: we went mining, is really falling in love with the
- 35:07Speaker 1: natural stone. So what we do is we mind them,
- 35:09Speaker 1: but we leave the dirt on them. So the crystals
- 35:12Speaker 1: that you have in front of you are ten twenty
- 35:14Speaker 1: fifty million years old and they are still covered in
- 35:17Speaker 1: that original mud. And so when we go to schools,
- 35:22Speaker 1: we talk to them about like the science behind it
- 35:24Speaker 1: and the mineralogy. When we go into adult venues, we
- 35:29Speaker 1: talk about the spiritual connection and the chakras that they're
- 35:33Speaker 1: aligned to. And the vibration that they give. But regardless
- 35:37Speaker 1: of the forum that we're in, it's all about the
- 35:39Speaker 1: discovery of it, because it's like you get to unearth
- 35:42Speaker 1: this ten million year old gym. So that's what we
- 35:45Speaker 1: have for you today is some bowls with some crystals
- 35:48Speaker 1: in it. I brought some amethysts from our mind in Georgia,
- 35:51Speaker 1: and we brought some smoky courts from northern Nevada, and
- 35:56Speaker 1: some parado from Arizona, and some citrine from north in California.
- 36:00Speaker 2: Okay, so let's walk us through back.
- 36:02Speaker 1: So what so that one is the amethyst, Uh, those
- 36:05Speaker 1: are from Those are from Georgia, Okay. And the next
- 36:10Speaker 1: in the green is the paradi.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Wow. I don't want to like drop it down, but.
- 36:20Speaker 1: It's all good because they're rocks. If they fall, it's okay.
- 36:24Speaker 1: The city in northern California.
- 36:27Speaker 2: These are from northern cal Okay, beautiful.
- 36:30Speaker 1: And the smoky courts from northern Nevada. Wow.
- 36:36Speaker 2: So it's like we're giving birth.
- 36:38Speaker 1: That's what we call it unearthing, or we say, you
- 36:40Speaker 1: say to people like you're giving it, you're giving it birth.
- 36:42Speaker 1: We're like Doula's like a crystal doula.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I never knew that was the thing until now. Amazing.
- 36:49Speaker 1: So the experience that you get is you have just
- 36:51Speaker 1: you have some stones already that you guys picked in
- 36:53Speaker 1: your bowls, and I want you to put a little
- 36:54Speaker 1: bit of water in each of your balls. And you
- 36:56Speaker 1: can do this at home because we do kit We
- 36:57Speaker 1: sell kits online and we also do them as like
- 36:59Speaker 1: live live demonstrations.
- 37:01Speaker 2: So where can people get this online?
- 37:03Speaker 1: And how much water just to you can just cover
- 37:05Speaker 1: the rocks just enough to cover your oh, to cover
- 37:07Speaker 1: the rocks completely, okay, got to cover them completely?
- 37:10Speaker 2: Okay? More okay? And how can we get a kid?
- 37:13Speaker 1: And because I rock dot com okay, and we also
- 37:16Speaker 1: sell them on Amazon, so just let us up on Amazon.
- 37:19Speaker 2: We're picking our crystals. How do you like lag are
- 37:23Speaker 2: we supposed to be feeling? What's the art behind? Yes?
- 37:26Speaker 2: And our crystal?
- 37:27Speaker 1: Our motto is this rock chose you? Okay, because we
- 37:31Speaker 1: feel like this life chose us. Wow. So the the
- 37:35Speaker 1: I always say that they wink at you, Like the
- 37:37Speaker 1: ones that want to go home with you are looking
- 37:38Speaker 1: at you right now. They're like, hey, this is the one,
- 37:41Speaker 1: this is good. I know when you guys were selecting them.
- 37:43Speaker 1: While we were doing this, you looked over it, tod,
- 37:45Speaker 1: I want this one. Yeah, and that's the one that
- 37:46Speaker 1: was calling you so yeah. I think that the rocks
- 37:49Speaker 1: kind of find their way to the right people, just
- 37:52Speaker 1: like the life found its way to us. I love that,
- 37:54Speaker 1: all right. So you've got your water in there, and
- 37:56Speaker 1: I want you to pick up the little bottle that
- 37:58Speaker 1: says shine right, the other one that's just shine. Oh,
- 38:01Speaker 1: and we're gonna put a little drop. I mean it's
- 38:03Speaker 1: just clean. I'm sorry, I clean. Yeah, clean.
- 38:05Speaker 2: We don't need not shine yet.
- 38:07Speaker 1: Clean first, and we're gonna put a couple drops and
- 38:11Speaker 1: just want to get it nice and sudsy. You can
- 38:12Speaker 1: squeeze it in there, you put there. Yeah, And we're
- 38:17Speaker 1: gonna pick up our crystals with our left hand and
- 38:20Speaker 1: are brush with our right hand and just brush it
- 38:22Speaker 1: like you're brush on your teeth.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Okay, cool? Now, is there science behind the left and
- 38:25Speaker 2: the right hand?
- 38:26Speaker 1: No, just most people are right handed. If you're if
- 38:28Speaker 1: you're left handed, then do it the other way.
- 38:30Speaker 2: So when you're going to different places, like you said
- 38:33Speaker 2: Nevada and California, is the soil different?
- 38:36Speaker 1: Do you find or what is that like, yeah, each
- 38:38Speaker 1: environment is completely different. So like our our Georgia mine
- 38:41Speaker 1: is actually under a lake. Oh wow, and they clean
- 38:44Speaker 1: off pretty easy. So once you see the the dirt
- 38:46Speaker 1: go off, you can put it on your paper towel
- 38:48Speaker 1: and pick up your next one. So the yeah, the
- 38:51Speaker 1: Georgia mine is under a lake, so we drain the
- 38:53Speaker 1: water out of there twice a year and get down
- 38:55Speaker 1: in the bedrock and mine in the dirt, where like
- 38:57Speaker 1: the Nevada one is at the top of a mountain,
- 39:00Speaker 1: so you're in a real dry kind of mud dirt
- 39:02Speaker 1: rather than the mud that we get to in Georgia.
- 39:04Speaker 2: And did you say there was a certain time of
- 39:06Speaker 2: the year that you do this.
- 39:07Speaker 1: Yes. We are a small mining operation and it's quite
- 39:12Speaker 1: expensive to mine every day because we use full equipment.
- 39:16Speaker 1: So we only open the mines for about six to
- 39:18Speaker 1: four to six weeks twice a year, and we do
- 39:22Speaker 1: it in seasons that are that are more more pleasant
- 39:27Speaker 1: are what are So in Georgia we go in the
- 39:29Speaker 1: late spring because summertime is awful, and then we go
- 39:33Speaker 1: like early fall, okay, so we avoid that winter the
- 39:36Speaker 1: winter months in the summer months, and the same thing
- 39:38Speaker 1: in Nevada we do a little shift to season, but
- 39:41Speaker 1: in the summer it's way too hot and in the
- 39:43Speaker 1: dead of winter it's under ten feet of snow.
- 39:45Speaker 2: Wow, So we have to kind of go around that,
- 39:47Speaker 2: and you turn these into beautiful jewelry.
- 39:49Speaker 1: Yes, so you're wearing I'm wearing some now with our jewelry.
- 39:54Speaker 1: We partnered with a jewel jewelry partner about three years ago.
- 39:59Speaker 1: We met her an event and she came over and said,
- 40:01Speaker 1: I want to buy some stones from you. We said,
- 40:03Speaker 1: you can't, but we can do a partnership. She actually
- 40:06Speaker 1: used to do all the jewelry for The Bachelor, so
- 40:09Speaker 1: she's been around a long time and has a beautiful collection.
- 40:14Speaker 1: But now she does an exclusive collection for us. She's
- 40:16Speaker 1: become like our third sister. So what we do at
- 40:19Speaker 1: events is we allow people to wash crystals and then
- 40:21Speaker 1: after they wash them, oh, that one came out beautifully.
- 40:25Speaker 1: After they wash them, we give you the opportunity to
- 40:29Speaker 1: turn it into a custom piece. So it takes about
- 40:32Speaker 1: four to six weeks to get it back to you,
- 40:35Speaker 1: but it allows you to design something, so you really
- 40:37Speaker 1: go from birthing it to creating somebody that you can
- 40:40Speaker 1: wear all the time.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Can't you show the camera your pieces that you have
- 40:45Speaker 2: that you're wearing. Oh yeah, I'm black, Mommy my crystals.
- 40:48Speaker 1: You guys, I'm like, some people take two seconds and
- 40:54Speaker 1: some people can stay there for hours.
- 40:56Speaker 2: You know, there's something therapeutic about that.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Sitting here. Until you do it, you don't get it.
- 41:02Speaker 1: But when you're doing it, you realize it's very calming.
- 41:06Speaker 1: And and then you're the first human to see what
- 41:09Speaker 1: these look like.
- 41:10Speaker 2: So, like, there's like different spots, So how do you
- 41:13Speaker 2: know if it's like dirt or if it's going to
- 41:14Speaker 2: like stay.
- 41:15Speaker 1: So a lot of the smell, like the smoky courts
- 41:17Speaker 1: there has some natural iron deposits in it. In the
- 41:21Speaker 1: in the business, what we use is something called iron out.
- 41:25Speaker 1: It's like an acid type acid type substance that will
- 41:29Speaker 1: get all those iron deposits off. That's something else that
- 41:32Speaker 1: we do different is we only use natural soap to
- 41:36Speaker 1: clean our crystals, so it's we don't use any chemicals
- 41:38Speaker 1: on them. So that way you're still keeping that kind
- 41:41Speaker 1: of natural substance that will teach you how to do
- 41:43Speaker 1: it at home if you want to take it at
- 41:44Speaker 1: home and clean it. People won't have a crystal that
- 41:50Speaker 1: hasn't been cleaned with acid. So this is like then
- 41:53Speaker 1: as natural as it gets.
- 41:55Speaker 2: How's your dad done this?
- 41:56Speaker 1: I actually had him to come down to the mine
- 41:58Speaker 1: in Georgia. Yes, he came dressed very improperly. I'm likeedy
- 42:03Speaker 1: white seekers I do. You're like, bro, they're gonna get dirty, dude,
- 42:07Speaker 1: like I told you to whar something you can get dirty.
- 42:09Speaker 1: And he's like, I Am not getting in that mud.
- 42:11Speaker 1: But he's fascinating.
- 42:13Speaker 2: What about your daughter?
- 42:15Speaker 1: She so our minds are eighteen and up. Oh, okay,
- 42:18Speaker 1: so she's seventeen, so she's.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Not there yet.
- 42:21Speaker 1: Year and we normally we like to go and stay
- 42:24Speaker 1: in Tahoe when we go to the Nevada mine, okay,
- 42:26Speaker 1: And it's always around her birthday, so we always have
- 42:28Speaker 1: to like go around her birthday. And then mom takes
- 42:30Speaker 1: the day off to go mining, and she stays with Auntie,
- 42:33Speaker 1: and then Auntie takes the day off to go mining,
- 42:35Speaker 1: and we still make a Tahoe vacation out of it.
- 42:38Speaker 1: So the next year we're going to actually take her
- 42:40Speaker 1: up with us.
- 42:40Speaker 2: So where do you see yourself with this in about
- 42:43Speaker 2: five years? Five to ten years?
- 42:44Speaker 1: What oh I see us taking it nationwide.
- 42:48Speaker 2: You know.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Right now we're working on taking our our classes that
- 42:52Speaker 1: we're teaching and turning it into a tool that we
- 42:55Speaker 1: can send to do remotely so we can So we
- 42:58Speaker 1: figured really like the dissecting frog kits that you buy
- 43:01Speaker 1: for science, like buy the crystal kits for your mineralogy class.
- 43:06Speaker 1: So we see, we see ourselves doing that, and then
- 43:08Speaker 1: we see ourselves franchising the business out. We have something
- 43:11Speaker 1: really cool called the Crystal Caboose that we drive around.
- 43:13Speaker 2: La In.
- 43:17Speaker 1: We dished crystals out of it, so we see building
- 43:20Speaker 1: up a couple more of those and then taking those
- 43:22Speaker 1: other cities. So yeah, we just wrote a children's book,
- 43:27Speaker 1: so a little activity book right there that it's like
- 43:30Speaker 1: all different crystal activities for the kids. So I really
- 43:34Speaker 1: see like taking this giving back, you know, giving back
- 43:38Speaker 1: with the kids with it. And we have a little
- 43:39Speaker 1: young miners club, so we were working on planning trips
- 43:44Speaker 1: for some of the younger kids to go to our
- 43:46Speaker 1: tailings field. So it's like they're not in the dangerous part.
- 43:50Speaker 1: They're just in the part where they can kind of
- 43:51Speaker 1: sift through stuff.
- 43:52Speaker 2: Makes it dangerous.
- 43:54Speaker 1: It's I mean, you're out there with heavy equipment, so
- 43:56Speaker 1: it's yeah, it's you know, we're fully regulated by Osha.
- 44:00Speaker 1: Still told Boots full Ppe, gotta have your best helmet
- 44:05Speaker 1: and make sure that you're stepping in the right places.
- 44:10Speaker 1: Oh the citron, yes, m hm, that's so beautiful.
- 44:16Speaker 2: So like, how do you know what to turn it into?
- 44:18Speaker 2: So if you see a crystal like this, do you
- 44:21Speaker 2: turn it into a ring? A necklace? Like? How does that? So?
- 44:25Speaker 1: Our jeweler is she's is a visionary, So we just
- 44:30Speaker 1: give her bags of crystals and let her play, and
- 44:32Speaker 1: then she makes a whole bunch of samples for us,
- 44:35Speaker 1: like some of the ones that you can see here,
- 44:37Speaker 1: and we have those on display at events where people
- 44:41Speaker 1: will look at them and say, I want something that
- 44:43Speaker 1: looks like that.
- 44:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:44Speaker 1: So it helps us because I'm like, we can help
- 44:46Speaker 1: you once you give us an idea. But she's the
- 44:49Speaker 1: visionary behind how they lay. The thing that I love
- 44:51Speaker 1: about what she does is she doesn't cut or polish anything. Okay,
- 44:55Speaker 1: so she uses a technique called electro plating, which paints
- 44:59Speaker 1: around the stone. So it really is the stone makes
- 45:02Speaker 1: the style. So whether you want a ring or a
- 45:05Speaker 1: necklace or so forth, that's you still have that natural
- 45:08Speaker 1: stone showing through, but the stone itself like these are
- 45:12Speaker 1: similar styles, but the stone itself showed does the style
- 45:16Speaker 1: around it beautiful and highlights the stone like we nature
- 45:20Speaker 1: did the work. So we're just trying to highlight.
- 45:26Speaker 2: For hours. But I was gonna say, like this really helped,
- 45:29Speaker 2: like someone like myself, I'm very anxious, so common.
- 45:36Speaker 1: Yeah, it is say like you can't get high in
- 45:39Speaker 1: your own supply. But we sit out there for it,
- 45:43Speaker 1: Like we'll have meetings and we're like, we're just going
- 45:44Speaker 1: to do a crystal washing. Just sit there and kind
- 45:48Speaker 1: of go because it does. It soothes you in a
- 45:50Speaker 1: way that you know, you wouldn't think that it would.
- 45:53Speaker 2: So I can see how this is great for adults,
- 45:56Speaker 2: but even definitely kids. Yeah, everybody can.
- 45:58Speaker 1: Really it's no age.
- 46:01Speaker 2: So once we're done cleaning, we shine.
- 46:03Speaker 1: And then we're gonna put a little bit of the
- 46:04Speaker 1: shine on there.
- 46:04Speaker 2: On top of the crystal directly. How much do we use?
- 46:08Speaker 1: You can just soak it on up on in there,
- 46:11Speaker 1: and then we're gonna use your paper towel so I
- 46:13Speaker 1: can do it on the paper towel like this, and
- 46:15Speaker 1: then we'll use the second paper towel to just blot
- 46:17Speaker 1: it off.
- 46:18Speaker 2: There's one food mhm time.
- 46:24Speaker 1: If you could pass mm hmm.
- 46:28Speaker 2: Listen, I'm always zenned out.
- 46:30Speaker 1: You have to pick your favorites and I'll make you, guys,
- 46:32Speaker 1: some some necklaces, rings, whichever that's gonna ever you decide.
- 46:36Speaker 2: My Lexi is gonna be so jealous. She loves jewelers,
- 46:40Speaker 2: so I don't just drop it. I don't have there.
- 46:42Speaker 1: And then you can use the paper towel to rub it.
- 46:46Speaker 1: This is and you'll see the difference. Shine is just
- 46:50Speaker 1: like food grade mineral oil. Because again, since we use
- 46:52Speaker 1: have a lot of kids, we only want to use
- 46:54Speaker 1: all natural stuff, keep it safe for We put the
- 46:58Speaker 1: lotion on the baby exactly. You don't want ashy crystal
- 47:02Speaker 1: crystals around here. This is.
- 47:06Speaker 2: These are, yeah, that one gorgeous. These are. This one's
- 47:12Speaker 2: gorgeous too. There's a reason why I wasn't able to
- 47:15Speaker 2: do this while I was working. You needed to, I
- 47:17Speaker 2: would not be working. He's watching HER's still watching crystal
- 47:25Speaker 2: be like not right now, guys, I'm in my zen
- 47:28Speaker 2: moment with my crystals. These are beautiful.
- 47:32Speaker 1: So you get a little bit of everything from your
- 47:34Speaker 1: root chakra up to your crown chakra. Okay, keep you
- 47:38Speaker 1: balanced for the day.
- 47:39Speaker 2: I love it well, Jassy, that was amazing. Can't wait
- 47:44Speaker 2: to see our jewelry. Yes, from the crystals that we pick.
- 47:48Speaker 2: Thank you, these are beautiful. As we rock because we
- 47:52Speaker 2: rock and Instagram, let's shout it out real quick.
- 47:54Speaker 1: The same thing, because I rock, because I underscore, I
- 47:57Speaker 1: underscore rock perfect.
- 47:59Speaker 2: They thank you.
- 48:00Speaker 1: Yaya.
- 48:01Speaker 2: All right, So let's clean up quickly and then we
- 48:04Speaker 2: will do the last segment. That was so much. I
- 48:10Speaker 2: feel so good. My anxiety needed that.
- 48:14Speaker 1: Yes, goal achieved.
- 48:16Speaker 2: Thank you so much for that so much. So you've
- 48:20Speaker 2: talked about your dad, and you've talked about your mom,
- 48:24Speaker 2: and you're also a mom. So let's just talk about
- 48:27Speaker 2: miss London for a minute. Would you like to if
- 48:31Speaker 2: she were sitting right here? Yes, what would you say
- 48:33Speaker 2: to her right now?
- 48:34Speaker 1: Oh? I would tell her that she is a gift.
- 48:39Speaker 1: She's taught me to be a warrior mom. My daughter
- 48:43Speaker 1: has special needs, so she's a has down syndrome and
- 48:47Speaker 1: she taught me that that doesn't define who you are
- 48:51Speaker 1: and is the strongest person that I know. So, like,
- 48:54Speaker 1: I get teary just singing about her because she's she's
- 48:57Speaker 1: a She's a warrior like that one right there, and
- 49:01Speaker 1: I look at she's a queen and I tell her
- 49:06Speaker 1: that all the time, that she's unstoppable.
- 49:08Speaker 2: I've seen her on your Instagram, and I can tell
- 49:11Speaker 2: that she runs the place and runs the house. I
- 49:13Speaker 2: can tell that she gets that feistiness, that warrior mentality
- 49:18Speaker 2: from her grandfather and her mother. And she's funny and
- 49:21Speaker 2: she's fascial. She is very paciable, very fashionable, beautiful. So
- 49:26Speaker 2: if there was one sentence or one question, or one
- 49:29Speaker 2: not question, one sentence or something you could say to
- 49:31Speaker 2: your dad, h what would that be?
- 49:35Speaker 1: Thank you? You know, like thank you for giving me
- 49:41Speaker 1: the foundation and the strength to know who I am. Yeah,
- 49:48Speaker 1: it's girls need their dads, they do, and I think
- 49:51Speaker 1: that when their dad's believe in them, it helps you
- 49:55Speaker 1: to believe in yourself, you know. So thank you, Thank
- 49:58Speaker 1: you daddy.
- 50:00Speaker 2: These girls up here, oh god, it's dangerous. I'm sure
- 50:04Speaker 2: my dad scratches his head all the time. I wish
- 50:06Speaker 2: I had a son. No, I doubt that's serious.
- 50:10Speaker 1: Boys are hard, believe me.
- 50:12Speaker 2: I just feel like dads and daughters. I know I'm
- 50:14Speaker 2: such a daddy's girl, but I'm sure there's times where
- 50:17Speaker 2: my dad when we were growing up, was like, probably
- 50:20Speaker 2: have more money if I had sons, but it wouldn't
- 50:23Speaker 2: be that daughter is is.
- 50:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:29Speaker 2: I love it the way you talk about your dad
- 50:31Speaker 2: and our families love each other. My dad loves your
- 50:34Speaker 2: dad and vice versa. So yes, this is a family unit.
- 50:39Speaker 2: And just to see all of the kids, and it's
- 50:42Speaker 2: so funny our dads and our moms, you know, when
- 50:46Speaker 2: they had us, we're all they were all around the
- 50:48Speaker 2: same age. Yeah, and so people don't realize that the
- 50:51Speaker 2: connection and our connections started way before we were even conceived,
- 50:55Speaker 2: you know. And just to see what the kids are
- 50:57Speaker 2: doing now, and you know, it's it's beautiful. We're all
- 51:01Speaker 2: doing such amazing thing.
- 51:02Speaker 1: It's a wonderful family. Yeah. Really, it's like a special club,
- 51:05Speaker 1: it is.
- 51:06Speaker 2: And I love seeing how the dad's even knowing and
- 51:10Speaker 2: experiencing how busy they are, they still have made time
- 51:13Speaker 2: to establish beautiful relationships with you know, the kids. Yeah.
- 51:17Speaker 1: So I love that very well. Yeah.
- 51:21Speaker 2: So our last question that we will ask you is
- 51:25Speaker 2: your dad left his mark in basketball? Honestly he is
- 51:28Speaker 2: doctor j doctor. How do you plan on legendizing your world?
- 51:35Speaker 1: I mean, I think that I've taken the first step,
- 51:38Speaker 1: you know, being like you said, the first black woman
- 51:41Speaker 1: to be a domestic mind history. Yeah, so we're making
- 51:44Speaker 1: history there, and it's like I want to keep trailblazing
- 51:47Speaker 1: showing them that, you know, girls rock.
- 51:49Speaker 2: Yes, literally, look at you literally, I love it. I
- 51:56Speaker 2: love it well, Jazz, thank you so much for being
- 51:58Speaker 2: hereat times. It was really fun again, such on zen.
- 52:03Speaker 2: You know, I came here with a little anxiety. I
- 52:06Speaker 2: got my crystals washed. I feel just renewed and ready
- 52:11Speaker 2: to go. You know, we're gonna eat good after this.
- 52:14Speaker 2: I just enjoy the day. Thank you, Sirius XM Studios.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Jeremiah at the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas. We've had
- 52:23Speaker 2: such a great time. Oh my gosh, did we have
- 52:26Speaker 2: a time. Thank you Evan and my team, Hector, all
- 52:29Speaker 2: the guests, all the guests, my parents who came by
- 52:33Speaker 2: family in laws, my husband, my baby, guys, everybody and everybody.
- 52:39Speaker 2: We love everyone here just for Summer League, NBA Summer League,
- 52:43Speaker 2: perfect time to have NBA kids on you and you
- 52:47Speaker 2: and you. Yes, well, there's literally no better time than
- 52:51Speaker 2: we have to make this year. Yes, I love it,
- 52:56Speaker 2: Thank you and we will see you guys next time,
- 53:00Speaker 2: next time.
- 53:00Speaker 1: I love you.
- 53:02Speaker 2: Take care of each other yeaes
