Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Frank, you're up first. Hey, Adam and Greg.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Well, you know, Greg, this one more than ever, because
- 0:15Speaker 2: I usually will ask you about player performance and whatnot.
- 0:18Speaker 2: I want to ask you about a call that was
- 0:20Speaker 2: made by Fangio in the second quarter.
- 0:23Speaker 1: It was the Illuminor play.
- 0:25Speaker 3: I was screaming as soon as I saw them aligned.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I go, they got three timeouts and a whole minute
- 0:28Speaker 2: left here in the half. I have no earthly idea
- 0:32Speaker 2: what his plan was defensively with the call. And I
- 0:35Speaker 2: know you're not in his head, but it's like, am
- 0:37Speaker 2: I missing something here?
- 0:39Speaker 1: So what happens is in cover three is because that's
- 0:42Speaker 1: the trip side that the jeans on because he's, you know,
- 0:44Speaker 1: he's a slight corner. So he he pretty much always
- 0:47Speaker 1: aligns to the passing strength. So what happened here, Frank,
- 0:51Speaker 1: is the number one receiver who's I am manner. He
- 0:56Speaker 1: he has to be taken by the corner Mitchell.
- 0:58Speaker 4: I think my question already got asked. I was just
- 1:01Speaker 4: going to add what you thought about Shipley as a runner,
- 1:03Speaker 4: the runs that I've seen of him. Um, in the system,
- 1:07Speaker 4: you've mentioned that Barkley, there's not really a system that
- 1:09Speaker 4: plays to his strengths, but I actually thought that he, um,
- 1:13Speaker 4: ran it pretty well. But, um, so I wanted your
- 1:17Speaker 4: quick thoughts on that. And then I had another question
- 1:19Speaker 4: about just something different, completely different.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Shipley is one of those guys. It's just a really
- 1:23Speaker 1: good football player. He's just not big enough to be
- 1:25Speaker 1: a feature back, you know, so he has to be,
- 1:28Speaker 1: he has to be a complimentary back because he's, he's
- 1:30Speaker 1: not naturally powerful, but he's a really good player. He
- 1:35Speaker 1: understands schemes. He understands how to block. I mean, obviously,
- 1:39Speaker 1: I don't know what would have happened on the final
- 1:40Speaker 1: drive if Barkley was quote-unquote healthy, but Shipley played every
- 1:44Speaker 1: snap on the final drive. So I don't know if
- 1:46Speaker 1: Barkley was healthy, if he would have been out there
- 1:49Speaker 1: or not.
- 1:49Speaker 5: Watching Jalen play in this sort of timing and rhythm
- 1:52Speaker 5: offense has been really nice to see. It's been a
- 1:54Speaker 5: while since we've seen this in Philadelphia. And just in general,
- 1:58Speaker 5: it's kind of gone away in the NFL, and I
- 2:00Speaker 5: feel like I've been watching quarterback development go in the toilet.
- 2:03Speaker 4: I mean.
- 2:04Speaker 5: Do you blame that on, would they just put the
- 2:06Speaker 5: best athlete back there and tell him to run around
- 2:07Speaker 5: until he finds the open man and hit the open
- 2:09Speaker 5: man sort of thing? You see it in college, you
- 2:11Speaker 5: see it.
- 2:11Speaker 1: In the NFL.
- 2:11Speaker 5: I know the NIL has a lot to do with it,
- 2:14Speaker 5: but with these coordinators changing every year, do you think
- 2:16Speaker 5: that that's part of what's going on, that these guys
- 2:18Speaker 5: are not developing with the same system year after year
- 2:21Speaker 5: after year when they can grow and they're learning a
- 2:23Speaker 5: new system every year or every two years, every three years,
- 2:25Speaker 5: whatever the case may be?
- 2:27Speaker 1: Boy, that's an hour conversation there, Brad. Yeah, I know
- 2:31Speaker 1: it is.
- 2:31Speaker 6: Certainly.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Yeah, certainly changing up every year is not good for
- 2:35Speaker 1: quarterbacks at all because you're learning new terminology. You know,
- 2:39Speaker 1: you've got to call plays in the huddle, you know,
- 2:41Speaker 1: and you've got to understand all that stuff and say
- 2:43Speaker 1: it with conviction. And then there's always alerts and there's always,
- 2:47Speaker 1: you know, sometimes there's two or three plays that not
- 2:49Speaker 1: plays that are called, but but alerts. So there's like it's.
- 2:53Speaker 1: What a lot of people don't think about, and Caleb
- 2:55Speaker 1: Williams really struggled with this last year through the first
- 2:59Speaker 1: part of the season, is what we call the operational
- 3:01Speaker 1: part of the position.
- 3:04Speaker 7: Another question on the O-line, I guess. I know I've
- 3:06Speaker 7: been beating this to death, but I guess I'm just
- 3:08Speaker 7: curious as a whole, not so much on Kendall or Juergens.
- 3:13Speaker 7: I know they had some problems on Sunday, but what
- 3:17Speaker 7: about the other linemen? Are they struggling in the new scheme,
- 3:19Speaker 7: or is it? Is it maybe physical limitations for them?
- 3:24Speaker 7: It just doesn't seem like anybody's blocking all that well
- 3:27Speaker 7: in the run game.
- 3:29Speaker 1: The way I'd answer that is this. I've been fortunate
- 3:31Speaker 1: enough in my career to go to an event called
- 3:33Speaker 1: O-Line Masterminds. And all offensive line, and there's Hall of
- 3:37Speaker 1: Fame offensive linemen that are there that talk. I get
- 3:40Speaker 1: to talk to them all. The one word that constantly
- 3:42Speaker 1: comes up is cohesion. So it's rarely about one guy
- 3:47Speaker 1: in your offensive line, Sean. It's cohesion. And now you
- 3:50Speaker 1: have a new center. and the center now playing left guard.
- 3:53Speaker 1: So you're going to have missteps. It's just the way
- 3:56Speaker 1: it is.
- 3:56Speaker 6: To my untrained eye, I thought they missed a lot
- 4:00Speaker 6: of tackles Sunday. And I don't know if you got
- 4:04Speaker 6: that same impression, Greg, from what you saw on tape,
- 4:07Speaker 6: but that was what I saw live. And maybe it
- 4:11Speaker 6: was because some of those, what was that, third and 22,
- 4:13Speaker 6: and they run a draw play, and it was just.
- 4:16Speaker 1: He's going back to one late in the game.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Yeah, it just felt like they were their run fits
- 4:22Speaker 6: were off or the guy that was supposed to be
- 4:25Speaker 6: fitting just didn't didn't hit his tack, didn't make his
- 4:29Speaker 6: tackle or even slow the guy down somewhat.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:33Speaker 6: Pollard is not a big guy. He's not.
- 4:36Speaker 1: No, no. I mean, I can understand your point because
- 4:39Speaker 1: there were two or three runs where it absolutely looked
- 4:41Speaker 1: like that. I didn't get the feeling that the whole
- 4:43Speaker 1: game was like that. Rick, maybe you had a different
- 4:45Speaker 1: feeling being in the stadium. You know, there's a whole
- 4:47Speaker 1: different feeling being in a stadium, watching a game than
- 4:49Speaker 1: there is with me sitting and watching tape. But I
- 4:52Speaker 1: felt there were a couple of runs where that was
- 4:54Speaker 1: the case, but I didn't see that as a game-wide trend.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Did you think that they would have tried Kendall at
- 5:01Speaker 1: guard if he was ready? Kendall's not a guard. Pretty
- 5:04Speaker 1: much everybody thought that when he came out of BC.
- 5:06Speaker 1: He's a center-only type player. He would need a lot
- 5:09Speaker 1: of work at guard. I'm sure they're doing some cross-training.
- 5:12Speaker 1: but he's probably not ready to do that.
