- 0:00What's up y'all? You were listening to the Extra
- 0:01Point College Football podcast. I'm your host Jacob Carnes,
- 0:04joined as always by my Co host Daniel Hammock.
- 0:07Daniel, we have made it to week 3 of college football.
- 0:10We're two weeks in. We tried to warn you last week,
- 0:12there's not an off week in the sport ever, no matter what's
- 0:16going on. Might look like a sleepy week.
- 0:18There are upsets around the corner.
- 0:20Part of what makes this sport special.
- 0:22We had that this past weekend. We're going to talk about it.
- 0:25Daniel, you had some big life stuff happened.
- 0:27I I really thought I was going to have to run a single episode
- 0:29this week, but dude, Congrats father of three.
- 0:33Appreciate it, man. Yeah, just keep on rolling.
- 0:36Actually had a baby on game day. You know, my son didn't want to
- 0:40miss out on another, you know, football Saturday, so.
- 0:43He already missed. Join me as quick as possible.
- 0:45Yeah, dude, he didn't want to wait One more, one more.
- 0:48Wasn't going to miss 2. Yeah, he was.
- 0:50He was here in time to watch Michigan and Oklahoma.
- 0:54So I end up in the second-half. Yeah, second-half of both
- 0:58upsets. So yeah, he was definitely like,
- 1:00oh, OK, is this college football?
- 1:02And I was like, what were you born yesterday?
- 1:04And he's like, no, it's today. Today.
- 1:07Yeah, yeah, dude, he knew. He was like, I can't wait until
- 1:10the second because everyone else is saying sleepy Saturday and
- 1:13I'm about to watch two major upsets in college football.
- 1:16So shout out to him. He didn't want to miss it.
- 1:18That's, you know, that's, that's the level of commitment I'm
- 1:20looking for my kids. So oh, absolutely.
- 1:23Do Congrats. Let's let's let's dive into the
- 1:25first quarter of this episode. Daniel, what is one thing you
- 1:28learned this weekend after watching another weekend of
- 1:31college football? Yeah, I think for me it was John
- 1:34Mateer. I know that it's been it was a
- 1:36hot name all offseason. You and I were like, we're going
- 1:39to wait and see. And we've had some smart our
- 1:42colleagues that were like, hey, you know, Josh Pate has him as
- 1:46his Heisman. You know, a couple other people
- 1:50are trying to retroactively claim that they said the same
- 1:52thing. I don't think that they did.
- 1:54I was always high on him. I'm sure you were always Chris
- 1:57Doring. Some other guys on the SEC
- 1:58Network, They're all high on him and you and I made the
- 2:02contention, hey, if he's just pretty good, they're going to be
- 2:04better than they were. Well, Jacob, I would say through
- 2:09two games, John Matier has returned OU to the team we
- 2:14expect them to be. And I'm not talking about this
- 2:17season, I'm talking about as a program.
- 2:20They are traditionally a run and gun fun quarterback that has
- 2:26high upside potential for the offense.
- 2:29And then they usually have a bunch of defensive studs.
- 2:32Sometimes they don't play with them all together.
- 2:34There's a few of those years, Lincoln Riley years.
- 2:36They didn't play to their defensive potential, but they
- 2:39always had guys that could go to the NFL.
- 2:42Nick Benito in the news this week, he was a former OU Sooner
- 2:46and he just got a four year extension.
- 2:48He's the highest paid non quarterback right now in the
- 2:49league, defensive end. So they've got defensive guys
- 2:53that are in the league. They've got that heritage this
- 2:56game. They were swarming all over the
- 2:59place. They made Michigan look, you
- 3:01know, pedestrian at times. And they've got Michigan's out
- 3:04athletes. So that was surprising.
- 3:07But yeah, Matir, I think it just, it just felt like I was
- 3:10watching a regular Oklahoma game.
- 3:12It didn't feel like this past couple years.
- 3:13It was like it shook it off. You know, they will say, Oh,
- 3:16yeah, this is, you know, Baker Mayfield, this is Kyler Murray,
- 3:19This is, you know, even even further back, you know, Sam
- 3:22Bradford, this is a guy who can make plays while we watch him.
- 3:25So definitely fun. You know, great, great showcase
- 3:29on national TV. Even some people said he had his
- 3:31Heisman moment. I think he elevates everybody
- 3:34around him, too. So that's awesome.
- 3:35I like it on John Matier. I am.
- 3:37I think I'm still waiting to see on the ceiling, but I think he's
- 3:41already met the like you said, we called out if he's pretty
- 3:44good, Oklahoma will be very good this year because the defense
- 3:48should be just as good. That looked to be the case on
- 3:50Saturday. Being my one thing I learned and
- 3:52I kind of mentioned it is there there are no off weeks in
- 3:55college football. That's the one thing I learned.
- 3:57And you have a banger in OU versus Michigan.
- 4:01You had a great right 2 great rivalries.
- 4:04We we talked about them. The sidehawk game was great.
- 4:07Missouri, Kansas was a classic. You had major upsets.
- 4:11You had USF over Florida, you had Mississippi State over
- 4:14Arizona State, you had a great battle in the conference game
- 4:18and almost Kentucky that you and I were kind of scratching our
- 4:21heads at the line and kind of showed showed its face right
- 4:25there in that game. So man, there are no off wasting
- 4:28college football. Those were just six games.
- 4:30There are several more that were good.
- 4:31There are no off wasting college football.
- 4:34I'm keeping the stuff I learned very generic through two weeks
- 4:36because I don't want to be caught with a bad take with.
- 4:40I definitely learned this and it's two weeks of college
- 4:43football. I'll get a more definitive 1
- 4:45next week. How's that, Danes?
- 4:48We're moving to the second quarter.
- 4:51Daniel, what are you? What's 1 of the questions you
- 4:52have moving forward as we head into Week 3?
- 4:55Jacob, I'm I'm looking at Florida, I mean the big loss to
- 4:59South Florida, the multiple opportunities they had to win
- 5:03that game. My question is the Florida
- 5:06culture sustainable? What I mean by that is Florida
- 5:11is known for having this larger than life personality and really
- 5:16being, you know, kind of in your face.
- 5:19They're going to brag about it. They're going to, you know,
- 5:21beat, you know, beat you down both from a confident standpoint
- 5:24as well as on the field. This goes back to Spurrier.
- 5:27Spurrier was very much a guy that, hey, he talked to talk and
- 5:31he'd walk to walk. Well, then, you know, they had
- 5:33their years of Ron Zook and they were kind of up and down, but
- 5:36they were still a tough team to play.
- 5:37They had Urban Meyer come in very much that same vein of
- 5:41having some guys that are just bad dudes who love to hit you,
- 5:46love to run past you and score. And they could just make you
- 5:49look like a fool and then tell you about it.
- 5:52And that's that's gone from Florida right now.
- 5:55As far as I say, that's gone. The the part where they're
- 5:59winning is gone. The the undisciplined part is
- 6:02still there. Think about Marco Wilson a few
- 6:05years ago when you know, against the LSU where he throws the shoe
- 6:11and it was a third down stop under Dan Mullen.
- 6:14So, you know, different coach. And then here under Billy
- 6:17Napier, Florida has a guy spit on another player.
- 6:21I don't know if this was a, you know, copycat situation because
- 6:24he just saw Jaylen Carter do it in the NFL, but he spits on a
- 6:28player and it extends the drive and it continues it.
- 6:32It's a where they're they're ready to win that game.
- 6:35They get the stop they need. They give South Florida another
- 6:39chance and it's South Florida as a team.
- 6:41You give them a chance, they're going to take it.
- 6:42They're going to believe and they're going to they're going
- 6:45to execute. Especially this season, we've
- 6:46seen them take down to rates. Opponents already people are
- 6:50saying is, is Napier done? My bigger question is if they
- 6:53bring in somebody else, are they able to kind of harness that
- 6:57Florida culture that has been there over the past few decades?
- 7:02Yeah, that, you know, Florida man, I, I was high on 4 to come
- 7:06to the season. They can turn around, they can,
- 7:08they can go three and two in the next 5 games and people forget
- 7:11about the USF game. Just like hey, Notre Dame, you
- 7:13know, people are going to mention this with every loss
- 7:15this year. Notre Dame lost in Northern
- 7:17Illinois week two last year. I think he nailed the problem
- 7:20though, which is like it's still some of this fundamental stuff
- 7:23that seemed to be issues with Florida as well as play calling
- 7:27and and Billy Napier is calling the plays and he's already said
- 7:30he's not giving up on that. I saw a very funny comment on
- 7:34Cover 3 podcast, which was someone said how many, how many
- 7:38months would it take for Billy Napier and Mario Cristobal to do
- 7:41an escape room together? I thought that was very funny.
- 7:44Very funny question. Be a Florida man.
- 7:47Well, I'm sure we're going to have plenty more to talk about
- 7:49Florida this season, Daniel. My first question is how many
- 7:53teams does the SEC get into the playoffs this year?
- 7:56I'll say spoiler to our XPR. Here's some SEC bias.
- 8:00We've got 12 teams in the top 25 from the SEC as of right now.
- 8:05In the XPR record versus the Power four so far, the SEC is 8
- 8:08and two and out of conference games against other Power 4
- 8:11opponents, Big 10 is five and three.
- 8:13The Big show was 5 and 6. The ACC is 3 and 9.
- 8:16On top of that, you've got, you know, the SMU result versus Penn
- 8:21State last year. It's going to, regardless of
- 8:24whether it's right or not, it's going to hang in the back of
- 8:26committee members minds. Like, is this a year the SEC
- 8:29gets five teams in? And you know, if you've got,
- 8:31let's say, you know, I think the SEC, I don't think there's one
- 8:33team that separated themselves yet this year.
- 8:36What if you've got 32 lost teams and four more 3 lost teams?
- 8:41Like could, could you see five teams get in even if two of
- 8:45those are half three losses? I think that'll be really
- 8:47interesting to see this year. So that's a question I have as
- 8:50we as we move forward this season.
- 8:51Yeah, if I'm jumping to my next question, it is SEC related
- 8:55because why would it not be? I'm sure you saw the awkward
- 8:59press conference for Steve Sarkeesian.
- 9:03I'll keep mine as a A rated G question.
- 9:07If Arch is hurt, it gives it. It did make me question if Arch
- 9:11Manning is hurt, does Texas still scare you?
- 9:16And I I say that with all the love in the world for Texas's
- 9:21roster. I think they've got a great
- 9:23roster. And I think that, you know,
- 9:25they're going to certainly, you know, be able to win games even
- 9:29if Arch was not in there. But I mean, backup quarterback
- 9:32Matthew Caldwell is red shirt senior.
- 9:34There's a reason he hasn't played so far.
- 9:37Trey Owens, you know, the red shirt freshman Carl Lacy's that,
- 9:43you know, highly rated true freshman Texas is counting on
- 9:46next year. DFL coming in from American
- 9:48Heritage, five star quarterback being their next guy.
- 9:52So if Arch comes back for another year, having a year of
- 9:54them both together. But my point is, is that injury
- 9:58is something we haven't really discussed because they've had a
- 10:01couple of quarterbacks each of the past few years.
- 10:03Think back, obviously they had Malik Murphy as a backup for a
- 10:06little bit even before Arch was #2 behind Queen yours.
- 10:09So you know, in this rise that Sark has had with Texas, they've
- 10:14had at least 2 high end quarterbacks.
- 10:16And I would argue that right now they don't have a second if Arch
- 10:20is not the guy. So it did look like Arch was
- 10:22hurt based on what I saw. It was extremely uncomfortable
- 10:26press conference when they asked him about it.
- 10:28He did finish the game for what it's worth.
- 10:30You know, as much as it it seemed like at least a non
- 10:33issue, it does look like it's affecting his mechanics.
- 10:36So I wonder, you know, he's his part of his game, what makes him
- 10:41specialist his legs. So I don't know if in these
- 10:44bigger games that they do have, I know that they have somewhat
- 10:48of an easier SEC schedule. But in the bigger games that
- 10:50they do have, maybe the Red River Rivalry, are they going to
- 10:54count on him to run the ball? And you know, is he is it just a
- 10:58Stinger? Is it something that's going to
- 11:01linger all year That's important.
- 11:02So I'll keep my eye on that one. I like how good is Texas of
- 11:06Archers hurt. I still think very high floor
- 11:09personally that that. Playoff team without arch.
- 11:13I still think yes because I think the I'll wait and see on
- 11:17the offensive line. The defense is good enough.
- 11:19I think that's my like. I think everyone forgets they
- 11:21also held Ohio State to 14 week 1 and Julian San and Jeremiah
- 11:25Smith looked very nothing opponent, but looked very good
- 11:30in Week 2. That's why it's early man.
- 11:33Pete was talking about this of, you know, AP poll voters need to
- 11:36like forget the their preconceived notion.
- 11:39He was saying it in relation to he was saying like, you know,
- 11:43Florida State's not ranked that highly because you still have
- 11:45this preconceived notion that they were bad.
- 11:48But I think it goes both ways of what if I still think Alabama's
- 11:52pretty good. Therefore, I have Florida State
- 11:54ranks very highly or my preconceived notion of Alabama
- 11:59was very good. I think they're awful.
- 12:01Then why would I have Florida State ranked if I think
- 12:03Alabama's awful? So I think it goes both ways of
- 12:06like, either the wind was impressive or it wasn't.
- 12:10I think we're going to look back on this Week 1 result and say 14
- 12:12to 7. Those were two top six teams in
- 12:15the country with great defenses kind of in a, in a, you know,
- 12:18defensive slugfest in that game. Yeah, I'm, I am curious if
- 12:22Archers hurt. Some of the stuff just looks his
- 12:25velocity is also down on his ball like beyond the wincing
- 12:28stuff, the Velo and Army a little bit different last year.
- 12:31So that is a curious question. My second question, Daniel, are,
- 12:35are big teams playing with their food or is this cause for
- 12:38concern? The few different teams this
- 12:40weekend, a few more got highlights than others, but
- 12:43obviously Clemson having a 16-O like deficit, Detroit at one
- 12:47point in that game, South Carolina messed around with
- 12:51South Carolina State, Texas A and it messed around with Utah
- 12:54State. Texas messed around with UTSA,
- 12:57Georgia messed around with Austin PE, LSU messed around
- 12:59with with Louisiana Tech. Like I personally think I have
- 13:03an answer, which I'll reference later, but my question is, are
- 13:07big teams playing with their food or is this a cause for
- 13:09concern? And beyond even playing with the
- 13:10food, is this is this a consequence of the expanded
- 13:15schedule right? Of like, you know, you're going
- 13:19to have a longer season and tougher schedules in college
- 13:22football now. So dude, these are 18 and 22
- 13:25year olds. The end of the day, I think it's
- 13:26one of Saban's greatest strengths as a coach was they
- 13:29seem prepped and ready to go every single year, every single
- 13:32game. They hardly ever did this with a
- 13:34lesser opponent. But I think you're seeing more
- 13:36and more big teams like kind of mess with these, you know,
- 13:40younger opponents. So I think it's hard, especially
- 13:43if you only played a couple of these teams to get a read on
- 13:45these teams if they are just messing around because we saw
- 13:48this last year, a couple teams screw around with young, you
- 13:51know, with lesser opponents and then absolutely flip a switch
- 13:54when it came to big games. And I think that's a skill too,
- 13:57is to have your team ready to flip that switch when it comes
- 14:00to big games. So it's just a question to have
- 14:02in the back of my mind because we've got a couple games this
- 14:04week. We're going to talk about that.
- 14:06I think this is going to play into.
- 14:07So that's a question I have moving forward.
- 14:10Daniel, we're getting here to halftime.
- 14:12I'm going to actually pull up our extra point rankings again,
- 14:16as a an explainer. These are our BCS style rankings
- 14:22and these are meant to be, you know, representative of both how
- 14:26to computers see teams at this point in the season mixed with,
- 14:30you know, Kelly Ford K Ford ratings on Twitter, his most
- 14:34deserving rating. But and then the eye test you
- 14:36and I have poles into this. So a lot of movement early on in
- 14:39the season. If you're watching on YouTube or
- 14:42on Spotify, you can see it now you've got Ohio State one big
- 14:45jumper, Oregon at 2, Ole Miss big jumper at three.
- 14:49That was surprising to me. Georgia at 4, LSU at 5, Texas 6,
- 14:56Oklahoma 7, Penn State 8, Tennessee 9, Miami 10.
- 14:59You can see the rest of the top 25 on either of our Twitter
- 15:03accounts or Instagram or YouTube.
- 15:06And Friday 5, if you're watching, you can check out the
- 15:08full top 25. Daniel, what?
- 15:10What team surprised you? What teams jump out?
- 15:13I mean, I can start by saying Ole Miss surprised me because
- 15:16neither you know where I had them at 3 in our ballot.
- 15:19But I'll tell you what does of Ole Miss early is the power
- 15:22ratings and again, it's we're going to have a lot of
- 15:25fluctuation early as far as strength of record goes.
- 15:28Ole Miss has played an SEC team already, same with like Ohio
- 15:33State. They've played a Texas already.
- 15:35So that's it. That's in their resume versus,
- 15:39you know, a Georgia has played an FCS opponent and AG6
- 15:43opponent. Same with, you know, Utah, but
- 15:49you know, like Vandy's ranked Vandy's at 21.
- 15:51I think that's one that I personally, Daniel, I put them
- 15:55ahead of South Carolina in my top 25 because they have a
- 15:58common opponent. South Carolina played that
- 15:59opponent on a neutral site. Vandy went up to Lane Stadium
- 16:02and kind of beat the brakes off Virginia Tech there in the
- 16:04second-half. So Ole Miss and Vandy, 2 teams
- 16:07that that stuck out as as I'm doing, as I'm looking at our
- 16:10XPR. Yeah, I agree on Ole Miss.
- 16:13That was one where, you know, watching that game, it it felt
- 16:16kind of sloppy. It was one that you and I just
- 16:18called out. Hey, this one, you know, last
- 16:20year obviously was a loss for Ole Miss and it, you know, ended
- 16:24up costing them ultimately because they should have
- 16:27dominated that Kentucky team. Kentucky hung in there this time
- 16:31and Ole Miss had to rely on a backup quarterback for the last
- 16:35little bit. Looks like Austin Simmons is
- 16:37good, but as far as health wise, but and it's, you know, same
- 16:42thing for Kentucky. They had a backup quarterback at
- 16:44the end. So it's kind of just a weird
- 16:45situation closer game. So for them to jump, I'm almost
- 16:49looking at those teams in between and thinking, you know,
- 16:52it's probably a little bit from the power side of them not
- 16:56dominating their opponent like they should have.
- 16:58And so that's what the offset came from because Ole Miss was
- 17:01sitting in the seventh position the week before.
- 17:04So they kind of just moved ahead of the teams that struggle,
- 17:07struggle wins. My other one would be Oklahoma.
- 17:11I'm not surprised. I am.
- 17:14I'm almost relieved to see where they are because it feels like
- 17:18this is where they should be. They were 18 last year last week
- 17:21for us and they hadn't played anybody yet.
- 17:24So obviously we need to wait and see.
- 17:26And these rankings I think are a good indication.
- 17:29I like seeing that, that Longhorn and that OU logo right
- 17:32beside each other. Excited about that game in a few
- 17:34weeks. But this one, it felt like, hey,
- 17:38it's kind of a homecoming party for Oklahoma.
- 17:42They're back where we we expect that to see that logo in the top
- 17:4510 competing and being a tough out for everybody.
- 17:49So glad to see that this was represented the right way.
- 17:55Yeah. And USF, you know, 20 there for
- 17:57us I think is big. Auburn I believe is still not
- 18:02ranked in the AP if I remember correctly.
- 18:04And they're 13 for us. I think we're we're way more
- 18:06right on that than they are. I will confess because the
- 18:10computer there is like a .2 differential between two teams
- 18:15and I manually flopped or flipped here, it's Alabama and
- 18:19Florida State. Alabama was still .2 ahead of
- 18:21Florida State. It was close enough where I'm
- 18:23like we've seen this game, I'm going to go ahead and flip those
- 18:27manually. It's what got to have a little
- 18:29bit of a manual input here. We'll see how that goes to the
- 18:32season plays out. Those, you know, different teams
- 18:35play records are going to change all that kind of stuff.
- 18:38But you'll be sure to check that out on YouTube, Spotify, both of
- 18:42our Twitter accounts on Instagram at the Extra Point
- 18:44pod. You can you can argue with us
- 18:46about which teams ranked ranked where, and I'll just sit here
- 18:49and tell you it's probably the computer's fault.
- 18:51So. Oh yeah, blame the computers
- 18:54dude. That's what I've been.
- 18:54Doing, dude, isn't that a great pastime for the BCS?
- 18:58Is just being able to blame the computers.
- 19:00That was a simpler time to blame the committee members.
- 19:04Now it's like computers are easy to blame because they're, you
- 19:06know, they're unbiased. They don't care about logos.
- 19:09They didn't watch SMU play Penn State last year.
- 19:11They're just looking at this year's data.
- 19:12So shout out to computers, man. We we didn't know how good we
- 19:15had it. Daniel, this would be tough.
- 19:17This is a big week for college football.
- 19:18Three games we're not picking this week that you're excited,
- 19:21that we're excited to watch. All right, I think I kind of
- 19:24cheated on this. I'm going to mention my three.
- 19:26I'll I'll say the three that made the cut, but I'm giving you
- 19:29the card, OK? If you're listening to this
- 19:32because you love college ball, OK, We know the listeners.
- 19:35I'm going to mention all 5. OK, I've got 5.
- 19:38Here's the two honorable mentions.
- 19:39OK, I'll give those to you. First Backyard Brawl.
- 19:42OK, we've got pit at West Virginia.
- 19:46All right, this is the first Backyard Brawl with Rich
- 19:48Rodriguez back in the head coach's chair.
- 19:51You know, they had they had a loss last week.
- 19:53It was ugly. They were looking ahead to this
- 19:56game. All right, Jacob, what if I told
- 19:58you this was the first game that was ever?
- 20:03Broadcast on the radio. I didn't realize that I was
- 20:06looking up some stuff about this game, trying to get some inspo.
- 20:091921, the first American football game ever over the
- 20:12radio. Backyard Brawl.
- 20:16This is, you know, industrial folks of Pittsburgh versus the
- 20:20mountain folks of West Virginia. So kind of a clash of cultures.
- 20:25Anyways, that one has always stood out to me.
- 20:28Pitt owns the all time series by like 20 games of 6063 to 45
- 20:32something like that. So they they hold that they are
- 20:36they are favored 6 1/2 points. I don't know man, I just feel
- 20:39like the loss last week for for West Virginia.
- 20:42I think it's related to this. You know what we'll see this is
- 20:45going to be a game it's going to be a brawl.
- 20:47So other one Jacob is Duke goes to Tulane.
- 20:52That's just like it wasn't ACC team travelling to, I mean,
- 20:56former SEC team Tulane. But yeah, dude, Jake Ratzlaff, I
- 21:02think he's going to have a game, you know, against them.
- 21:05It's straight up it's a pick em. Basically it's a 1/2 a point is
- 21:08the line, I think the last I saw.
- 21:09So a pick em for Duke team going and travelling against Tulane.
- 21:17That one. I mean, Tulane is building their
- 21:19resume right now alongside South Florida as who is going to
- 21:23represent the group of six in the playoff.
- 21:26And so this is the next step for them.
- 21:28All right, now we got my honorable mentions out of the
- 21:31way. Here's the three that I think
- 21:34and let let the haters talk about it.
- 21:38All right, SEC Homer, here it is.
- 21:39OK. There are three great stinky SEC
- 21:43games all in the peripheral. OK, One of them.
- 21:47Hey, Florida, what are you doing?
- 21:49If you would have just beaten South Florida, you'd be on the
- 21:51card this week. You'd be the one of the ones
- 21:53we're talking about. Florida, LSU.
- 21:55I don't think I've ever missed a Florida LSU game.
- 21:57This game always sprouts legs. It's always something to just,
- 22:02you know, hunker down, watch with, you know, watch a bated
- 22:06breath. Something crazy is going to
- 22:07happen in this game. It always does.
- 22:09Usually the team that's favored is the team in turmoil during
- 22:13this one. I'm excited to watch that one.
- 22:15Florida's looking to bounce back.
- 22:16They're looking to ruin LSU season.
- 22:18LSU, it's is at home or the 8 1/2 point line.
- 22:22That line stinks to me. I'm so I, I think nervous to
- 22:25pick that game. I'm glad we don't have to.
- 22:27I'd lean at LSU still 8 1/2 points.
- 22:31That stinks. All right, Arkansas is going to
- 22:34Oxford, playing Ole Miss right after Ole Miss has that survival
- 22:38game against Kentucky. They jump up to #3 in the XPR.
- 22:42They're patting themselves on the back, all right.
- 22:44All of a sudden now they're playing Taylon Green and the
- 22:47sleepy Arkansas wild hog Razorbacks, OK?
- 22:51Yep. 7 1/2 points for Ole Miss to lay.
- 22:57I don't know, man. I think Arkansas might win this
- 22:59one out, right? I'm not having to pick it.
- 23:01I'm not going to. Arkansas is a dangerous team.
- 23:05They catch you napping, OK, Right after.
- 23:07They feel like they just escaped with their lives against
- 23:10Kentucky with a barely healthy quarterback.
- 23:13Now they got to play a team that's just got to put it on
- 23:16them. Last game, maybe the best game.
- 23:20Is this the best game of the day that we just don't even know
- 23:22about? And is it Vandy in South
- 23:24Carolina? This one's going to settle a
- 23:27lot. And people will laugh at that
- 23:29because of Vanderbilt, just the name and the logo and everything
- 23:32like that. But these two teams both have a
- 23:35common opponent. South Carolina was praised by
- 23:38us, by me for beating Virginia Tech.
- 23:41And you know, Lenore Sellers, you know, Heisman darling, he's
- 23:45a favorite. What did he put it on him?
- 23:46Dude, they spanked Virginia Tech.
- 23:49Now, of course, we know the transitive property is 100% in
- 23:52college football. So obviously this means that
- 23:56Vanderbilt's going to destroy South Carolina, right?
- 23:58South Carolina is at home laying 5 1/2 points.
- 24:01So they're the favorite, Dude, That one's got that one has two
- 24:06marquee quarterbacks in it. When have you ever said that
- 24:09about a Vanderbilt and South Carolina matchup?
- 24:12I know. Not since Jay Cutler maybe, and
- 24:15I don't even know who the South Carolina quarterback was at the
- 24:17time in the early 2000s. So this is awesome.
- 24:20So very cool. Excited to watch that one.
- 24:23That's like, that might be game of the week.
- 24:25We picked these other four games.
- 24:27We might go back and be like, dude, did you see South Carolina
- 24:30Vanderbilt? So anyways.
- 24:32Yeah, no, it's, it's one that we, you know, it's again, we
- 24:35left in the cutting room floor for games to pick this week.
- 24:38That's a ranked matchup according to the XPR, for what
- 24:40it's worth #21 at #18 So I'm excited that I for that one.
- 24:44All right, Daniel, third quarter for me. 3U matchups to watch.
- 24:48I'm also going to mention a few because I mean, several made the
- 24:51cut. I'll give you the top three.
- 24:53One, Tennessee versus Georgia. This should be a very clean
- 24:57uniform matchup. I think it always is the red
- 25:00versus that color orange. I think pops and you get, again,
- 25:04I've talked about this, there's something about like a like the
- 25:08home team is wearing white, color white.
- 25:11The away team is going to wear color, white color, which so the
- 25:14contrast there is going to be very good. 2 great uniforms.
- 25:19Well, you said this one always is, Jacob.
- 25:22Tennessee sometimes likes to throw on their smoky Grays or
- 25:26they're black when they do that. Throw it out as the matchup, OK?
- 25:30Well, that's why I wanted to. Clarify uniform, you know.
- 25:33No thank you. As long as.
- 25:34They're wearing their This is stuff.
- 25:35It's beautiful. Yes, big ass dress.
- 25:37So that's funny. If you could see my notes I
- 25:39wrote should get when I wrote out the uniform, like the combo
- 25:43versus combo, I said it's what we should get.
- 25:45Right, right. And This is why it's matchups to
- 25:48watch. The award is not awarded until
- 25:50after game day when when it's on the field.
- 25:53Got to see how it looks too. I will say the award from last
- 25:56week for uniform of the week did go to Oklahoma and Michigan.
- 25:59It was everything we thought it might be.
- 26:01Michigan wore the maze pants. They listened to the podcast.
- 26:04They changed from blue to maze. Thank God.
- 26:07It looked unbelievable under the light.
- 26:09So shout out to that uniform. What?
- 26:10Did Jacob Karns with AK say on Twitter?
- 26:13With AK? Yeah.
- 26:14All right, all right. LSU in Florida is my second one.
- 26:20Here's the thing, I do wish UF would have worn all blue.
- 26:23They announced what they're wearing every week this season.
- 26:26They're wearing white pants. It's still going to be a good
- 26:29matchup. But Florida wearing all blue in
- 26:32this one is elite. Yeah, it's still going to be
- 26:35very good. This is one of the best, I think
- 26:36one of the best uniform matchups in college football.
- 26:39This game is usually played at night.
- 26:41Add some pops, those uniforms under the lights, it's going to
- 26:44be very good. Lastly, again, this is this is
- 26:47not going to surprise you, Daniel.
- 26:48I go with big brands because I think big brands, the best
- 26:50uniforms for the most part, Notre Dame and Texas A&M, you
- 26:54get a blue versus a shade of red, which always looks good.
- 26:57This should be two very classy uniforms.
- 27:00I do hope that Texas A&M wears a maroon helmet and not go all
- 27:05white. I don't think that would look as
- 27:06good as if they went, you know, like maroon, white, maroon or
- 27:11maroon, white. White would be fine, but you
- 27:13know you're going to get the classic gold over Navy over gold
- 27:17for Notre Dame classic matchup under the lights, that golden
- 27:22helmet's going to look gorgeous. A few other ones I've got my eye
- 27:24on. If Miami wears orange and USF
- 27:27wears green, that'll look cool on screen like wears green pants
- 27:31like they did at Florida. Ole Miss in Arkansas, depending
- 27:35on what Ole Miss wears, could be good.
- 27:37Like if they're wearing some blue and Arkansas's got the red
- 27:39and that could be pretty good. Cow in Minnesota again has the
- 27:43ability to have some interesting combos.
- 27:45There's a there's a bone to throw over there.
- 27:50Yeah, we, we should get some, we should get some good matchups
- 27:52this weekend. Arizona, Kansas State, I'm on
- 27:54that one. But those are the three I've I'm
- 27:57excited to see on the field on Saturday.
- 28:01Daniel, let's dive into it, man. There's there's some big games
- 28:03this weekend. Let's not waste any time.
- 28:05Fourth quarter, 4 picks against the spread.
- 28:07We start at high noon in Atlanta, GA Tech hosting
- 28:11Clemson. This line has dropped, Daniel.
- 28:13The line is now at 3 1/2. The started at closer to a
- 28:16touchdown. Clemson comes off with a loss at
- 28:19home to LSU. They struggle with Troy at home.
- 28:23They were down by 16 at home at one point to Troy.
- 28:26They come back and win that game.
- 28:27Georgia Tech look good against Colorado, kind of play with
- 28:30their food last week. He gets the lost your opponent.
- 28:32They get this home game. Now it gets Clemson.
- 28:34This game has been circled by both teams.
- 28:36Clemson the 3 1/2 point favorite on the road.
- 28:38Who do you like on the flights on Saturday?
- 28:39Is Hanes king healthy? Good question.
- 28:42If he is so they I keep. I've heard something about a
- 28:45shoulder that's gonna last him his lifetime or something like
- 28:49that and everything under the sun.
- 28:52Oh, yeah. It was just a quick, you know,
- 28:53he's just banged up. And obviously this week they,
- 28:56they could play whoever they wanted to.
- 28:58And Aaron Philo is definitely not a, you know, he's not a
- 29:04silver, silver medalist himself. He's a, he's a good, good player
- 29:07in his own right. Had a good day.
- 29:09This just feels like a lot of people are are fading Clemson
- 29:14based off of their stinker of a week last week.
- 29:16I just think there's so much build up to Week 1.
- 29:18I think they played really good defense.
- 29:20I think that they got lucky to be as close as they were to LSU.
- 29:24But I think that's more credit to LSU being good and Clemson
- 29:29being in the right place at the right time constantly.
- 29:32But when they played last week, that was it was concerning.
- 29:36That being said, I like Clemson to win this one.
- 29:41I don't want it makes me nervous. 3 1/2 points that they
- 29:44have to win by 4 because I do see Georgia Tech.
- 29:47I mean, I, I see a a, you know, where they come in there and try
- 29:50to, you know, bully Clemson and do that, you know, at least when
- 29:53they're running the ball. But Clemson's got a very good
- 29:56defense. Yeah, let me go ahead.
- 29:58I'm going to lay all the points. I'm not going to try to middle
- 30:00it. I get in trouble when I try to
- 30:01middle things. Jacob, you know this.
- 30:03I tried to middle the, the Michigan, Oklahoma game.
- 30:06I should have just taken Oklahoma out right with laying
- 30:08the points. Give me Clemson, I'm going to
- 30:10lay these points. 3 1/2 feel like you get it at a discount
- 30:14because the line dropped. Georgia Tech is a formidable
- 30:17opponent. Obviously, you and I both, you
- 30:20know, said stuff like that. This is at Bobby Dodd, it's at
- 30:24noon. There's going to be a ton of
- 30:26Clemson fans there, you know, short drive for them to come
- 30:30attend this game. Georgia Tech is not a pushover.
- 30:33Like there are some years where it's a slam dunk.
- 30:35Obviously we wouldn't be talking about them right now if the way
- 30:37they were. This defense is going to be the
- 30:39difference for Clemson. I think people are really
- 30:42enthralled with the offense from Georgia Tech and they're less,
- 30:46you know, they're less hot on Clemson's offense and rightfully
- 30:50so. Clemson needs to spark and have
- 30:53a good have a good day. I think the the top, you know,
- 30:57the best that George Tech has and the best that Clemson has is
- 31:00going to be when Clemson's on defense and George Tech's on
- 31:03offense. I like Clemson in that match up.
- 31:06On the flip side, I think that Georgia Tech's defense has some
- 31:10solid players. I think they're going to make
- 31:12some plays here and there. Overall, I think Clemson has
- 31:15enough to score. I think this is where you see
- 31:18their breakout day for the wide receivers come.
- 31:20I don't necessarily trust the Georgia Tech secondary.
- 31:23I like their linebackers, I like their defensive line.
- 31:25But I think you're going to see Klubnik run sideline to sideline
- 31:29to try to spread them out a little bit.
- 31:31And then I think you're going to see him go over the top to his
- 31:33receivers a little bit. So give me Clemson by a
- 31:35touchdown and wouldn't be surprised to see Georgia Tech in
- 31:40this game till the very end. We're in lockstep also.
- 31:42I mean, I have Clemson 27 in this game.
- 31:45Yeah, they lost against LSU. They were sloppy against Troy.
- 31:48Tech had a good win against Colorado and they're fine last
- 31:51week. Think people are overreacting to
- 31:53Clemson? This is classic early season
- 31:55overreactions. Like I said, it's a long season.
- 31:58Clemson has better athletes at every position than Georgia Tech
- 32:01does. They couldn't run the ball
- 32:03against LSU. I think that changes against
- 32:06Georgia Tech. I do not trust the Georgia Tech
- 32:08run defense. They looked poor in both their
- 32:10games. The Clemson defense has the
- 32:12personality to challenge the run game against Tech.
- 32:14They can load the box because I don't think Tech has the
- 32:17receivers at all. The challenge Clemson secondary,
- 32:20again very different than LSU. They don't have Georgia Tech
- 32:22doesn't have the wide receivers to compete and win.
- 32:24Therefore I think Clemson can man them up and send a sell out
- 32:28to stop the run if they need to against this formidable Tech
- 32:31offense. So I like Clemson by a touchdown
- 32:34the road. I think the first spread that
- 32:36came out the opening line was about a touchdown.
- 32:37I think that was more right. I think again, public money is
- 32:41overreacting to how Clemson looked the last two weeks.
- 32:44And I get it. It's a lot of money's coming to
- 32:46bring this line down. But I was very happy to see it
- 32:49move because I let Clemson buy a touchdown of this game.
- 32:51Give me the give me the Tigers to go on the road.
- 32:53Tigers to win and cover. I'm with you.
- 32:55We moved to 3:30, which is fun. Daniel.
- 32:57We get, we get the best game of the SEC this week in a, you
- 33:00know, the old prime time slot, which is 330I like the 330 prime
- 33:03time for SEC games, Tennessee and Georgia.
- 33:06Georgia is 1/8 straight. Daniel.
- 33:08They didn't look great last week.
- 33:10Tennessee has looked good two weeks in a row.
- 33:13Nico, who definitely looks like they won the trade with the
- 33:16quarterback. This line open near a touchdown.
- 33:19It is also down to 3 1/2 the Vols underdogs at home this hypo
- 33:25finally get his first win against Georgia.
- 33:27Daniel, who do you like in Knoxville?
- 33:28Yeah, it feels a lot like the one we just talked about a
- 33:31little bit as far as the the heavy favorite kind of coming
- 33:34back down from the clouds because of a a struggle win in
- 33:38the previous week. And the underdog continue to
- 33:40look impressive. Now, Tennessee's look more
- 33:42impressive this season, I would say maybe than Georgia Tech did.
- 33:46But yeah, I did completely agree.
- 33:49Joey Aguilar fits this offense. He's moving around and then he's
- 33:54able to he throws the deep ball so well.
- 33:57And you know, like, this isn't to drag like Nico or anything.
- 34:00Even the Tennessee fans probably love that the last year Nico is
- 34:06good in the short intermediate game and he was good line of
- 34:09scrimmage kind of thing, but he just had she struggle with a
- 34:13deep ball and his pocket mobility wasn't wasn't quite
- 34:16there. He kind of looked a little
- 34:17clumsy. Now, you know, last year they
- 34:20had to win a lot of games defensively and with Dylan
- 34:22Sampson Pound in the rock this year they kind of get to win it
- 34:25the other way with, you know, lighten up the scoreboard
- 34:28spreading everybody out and out. Obviously last week was East
- 34:30Tennessee State, but they didn't struggle with them like Georgia
- 34:33did with Austin P And then week one against Syracuse, I mean,
- 34:38that's at least a well coached team.
- 34:39We don't know exactly about all their personnel just yet because
- 34:42they had to replace everybody and then they kind of struggled
- 34:45against UConn. But you know what, that remains
- 34:49to be seen. All this to say, I think that it
- 34:51was good to see for Tennessee these receivers making plays
- 34:56after all the guys they lost last year.
- 34:58You're kind of seeing that production return and timing is
- 35:02working out well for Aguilar and these guys.
- 35:05The big question here is, you know, was was Georgia like you
- 35:08had mentioned in your your quarter 2, your question about
- 35:11was Georgia playing with their food?
- 35:13Were they one of the one of those big, you know, name brand
- 35:16schools playing with their, you know, FCS opponent or whoever?
- 35:21Georgia has not gotten to play a big game yet.
- 35:24They this is Georgia's first big game.
- 35:26So you wonder if that things are going to be different.
- 35:29Gunner Stockton did not look impressive against Austin P
- 35:32curious about his downfield throwing and things of that
- 35:36nature. Georgia did a lot of shuffling.
- 35:38All the offensive line had that big rain delay or lightning
- 35:42delay and then had moved the game time around due to weather.
- 35:45So I don't know if it was like Georgia just struggling or if
- 35:49this had other things to do with it.
- 35:51I have to go based on what I just think to be true.
- 35:56Like you said, Georgia has won eight in a row in this rivalry.
- 36:00That's not to say they're going to win the rest of them for the
- 36:02till the end of time. I do like the matchup of Kirby
- 36:06Smart versus Josh Hypel because I think Josh Hypel's offense
- 36:10does great against a certain caliber of athlete.
- 36:13And I think Georgia has, I don't want to say they've cracked the
- 36:17code, but I think that they can kind of stymie that attack a
- 36:21little bit and they can kind of hold it at Bay.
- 36:24And these will be the best cornerbacks that Tennessee will
- 36:27have faced all year. Georgia's, you know, too deep on
- 36:29each side. They've got 4 phenomenal
- 36:32cornerbacks. Tennessee's going into this game
- 36:34with both starting cornerbacks still out for the third week in
- 36:38a row, they're still not there. Nobody has been able to, I mean,
- 36:40I say nobody. Syracuse was able to throw the
- 36:42ball on them. It was just too little, too
- 36:44late. Obviously, East Tennessee is not
- 36:46going to do that. What's going to break first?
- 36:49Is Tennessee secondary going to break first or is Georgia's
- 36:52receivers going to, you know, are they going to make plays?
- 36:55That's the biggest question I have.
- 36:56I think that I saw Stat Hypo's offense average is 34 points a
- 37:00game, but against Georgia it's 14 points a game.
- 37:04So it's a 20 point difference. I foresee that to be the case.
- 37:07I think that this game is going to be in the teens and 20s
- 37:10against each other. I don't see this one being high
- 37:12scoring. I think that you're going to
- 37:13have a, you know, maybe 24 to 17 kind of victory.
- 37:18I liked Georgia at around a touchdown.
- 37:21Now you're kind of getting it at a discount, 3 1/2 points.
- 37:24I don't think you've seen Georgia's best, nor do I think
- 37:26you'll necessarily see it on Saturday, but I think you'll see
- 37:30the best they've been so far this year.
- 37:33Give me the dogs, lay the points.
- 37:34I trust them. I trust Kirby with the defense.
- 37:37The defense has looked very strong this year.
- 37:39I know the opponents have been bad, but if you look at Georgia
- 37:42the past two years against lesser opponents, they have not
- 37:45been stopping the run. They have been not sideline to
- 37:49sideline like we saw them in their national championship
- 37:51years. Georgia looks like their defense
- 37:53is back to that kind of category.
- 37:56So that's where my confidence for Georgia comes in.
- 37:59But I certainly don't think George is going to run away and
- 38:01hide with this one. Like I would think if they were
- 38:05playing better or if Tennessee looked worse than they've looked
- 38:07so far. Tennessee's looked pretty strong
- 38:09so far. Georgia looks off Higgins,
- 38:11Austin P line opens up with a touchdown and dude, everybody
- 38:17saying too many points. Line comes all the way down to 3
- 38:191/2. I've already seen a lot of
- 38:21national guys being like who look at the camera and say, who
- 38:25do I trust more in this game? I can't believe I'm saying this,
- 38:28but I think it's Tennessee. Daniel, what does this sound
- 38:31like? This sounds like 2022-2023 and
- 38:362024 under Josh Hypel against Kirby Smart.
- 38:39This is the tale as oldest time. Look, it's Gunner's first SEC
- 38:41start in the road. I go back to how Carson Beck
- 38:44looked against South Carolina at home in 2023 on the road at
- 38:47Auburn. And it was after that game and
- 38:49Kirby and Mike Bobo said that's when they finally trusted Carson
- 38:53was like they needed to go see him do it on the road and RIP
- 38:55it. He was hesitant at home against
- 38:56South Carolina. He had to come from behind and
- 38:59win at Auburn. Had a couple big throws to win
- 39:01that game. Gunner has to go out there and
- 39:03earn it this week. They were open guys last week.
- 39:05I thought he threw the threw the long ball better in game one,
- 39:08the Game 2. I think the biggest concern for
- 39:11George in this game is downfield passing.
- 39:14But I don't think they're going to need it to beat Tennessee
- 39:19this week #1 Tennessee's starting two corners are out
- 39:22this week, and I think Georgia's wide receiver room is the best
- 39:25they've had under Kirby Smart and Dinga.
- 39:29This is a game where I think Georgia embodies the identity
- 39:32that Kirby Smart wants this team to have.
- 39:34I think last year they got away from the identity and they won
- 39:37the SEC. Kirby Smart said that was the
- 39:38best coaching job that he and his staff has done at Georgia
- 39:41was with that team. This team seems to embody the
- 39:44identity Kirby Smart has set for this team.
- 39:46The offense looks night and day running the ball from it did
- 39:50last year, both from an effort in an athlete standpoint.
- 39:53This defense has been the kryptonite for Josh Hypel.
- 39:56Like you mentioned, in four starts against Georgia, Hypo's
- 39:59offense has scored 171310 and 17.
- 40:03So how many points does Georgia need to win this game?
- 40:06I'm going to say they need 20 points to win this game.
- 40:08And do I think Georgia can score 20 points?
- 40:11Even if the downhill passing is not there against the Tennessee
- 40:14defense, I absolutely do. Georgia's won this game.
- 40:17I have margined a victory of 24/14/28 and 14 points the last
- 40:21four trips. The biggest margins of victory
- 40:24actually coming on the road in Knoxville the last two times
- 40:29they've played there, 24 and 28 points.
- 40:32This will be the first real look at Georgia.
- 40:33I think we've seen Georgia play with their food multiple times
- 40:37that are Kirby Smart. He saw it in 22 against Sanford.
- 40:40He saw it in 22 and that a year against Kent State.
- 40:43He saw it in 23 against UAB. Georgia kind of does this,
- 40:46Daniel. I think for the first time in
- 40:47two years we see the boa constrictor on Saturday.
- 40:50I think Georgia and Tennessee is a very close game for 1/2 and I
- 40:54think Georgia is going to sit there and sit on Tennessee and
- 40:56squeeze the lifeout of them my life to Georgia by a touchdown.
- 40:59I like Georgia by 10 plus in this game.
- 41:01I do like this game to go under. I think Georgia wins this game
- 41:0427 to 13, which would actually match that 22 score in that game
- 41:09in Athens. I think Kirby Smart is fine
- 41:11winning this game by one point. I think it looks like a few of
- 41:14these games where Georgia gets a lead in the third quarter and is
- 41:18like, yeah, I don't. I just don't think Tennessee is
- 41:20going to score much. So Georgia to win and cover this
- 41:23is a tale his oldest time. Until it happens, I'm going to
- 41:26really trust that Kirby Smart's got Josh Hypel's number.
- 41:29And I'm not just saying that because of previous year's
- 41:31results. Even from what I've seen from
- 41:33this year, I think people have way overblown the performance
- 41:36last week and kind of looped it in.
- 41:38I've heard someone say George's looked terrible through two
- 41:40weeks. They looked dominant in week one
- 41:42against Marshall. They had the second highest net
- 41:45success rate against Marshall in week 1.
- 41:48And any team in the country. And again, it's not to see you
- 41:50play, it's how bad how you beat them.
- 41:51Georgia handled business. They did not handle business
- 41:54last week, but I've seen enough of like looping in like
- 41:58Georgia's looked terrible this season and Tennessee's looked
- 42:00great when they, you know, they finally got ahead and beat a
- 42:04Syracuse team that almost lost at home to UConn.
- 42:07Then they dominated, you know, ETSU, they took care of it is
- 42:11what they should have done. I just think the books knew what
- 42:13they were doing. They opened this at a touchdown
- 42:15and similar to 2022 Daniel, this game opened up at a that a 10
- 42:19point line in 2022. It came all the way back down to
- 42:236 1/2 and then around game time the sharps came on and bet UGA
- 42:29back up the 10 before game time. So this is the lowest points
- 42:33where we've had in this rivalry game and I think it was
- 42:37literally 8 years since Georgia started winning.
- 42:39So I think Georgia gets a ninth in the row here against
- 42:42Tennessee and Knoxville. Really excited to watch this
- 42:43game. I'm going to have to see it to
- 42:45believe it. If I think Tennessee is going to
- 42:46beat Georgia. Let's go to Miami and USF, a
- 42:51ranked match up. You know, USF was the look ahead
- 42:56game for Florida last week. Now they're in a look ahead spot
- 42:59with Miami this week, kind of. But now they're the rank match
- 43:03up. Miami can't overlook this game.
- 43:05Daniel, is this the best live event ever on The CW?
- 43:09Probably. Yeah, either that's some, either
- 43:12that or the, I mean, the best live sporting event, the, you
- 43:16know, Riverdale season finale probably was.
- 43:19Yeah, I'm just kidding. We'll see.
- 43:22This, this is for sure, for sure.
- 43:24Yeah, who do you like in Miami? Yeah, this one, I mean, South
- 43:27Florida, I just think of them as like that meme with like the
- 43:30Grim Reaper where they keep going into the room and killing.
- 43:33You know, it's like the first one they kill is Boise State.
- 43:36Their playoff chances are gone. Then they go in and kill
- 43:39Florida. Is Miami next?
- 43:41Like, are they going to do this to Miami as well?
- 43:44I actually love this line. I think that this is spot on for
- 43:48for how I feel about this game. I think Miami, what we've seen
- 43:52from them so far, being dominant on lines of scrimmage where
- 43:57maybe it wasn't expecting to see that so far this season.
- 44:01Miami being a little bit a tougher out than we we maybe had
- 44:06envisioned going into the year. They're #10 in our XPR.
- 44:10Obviously they've got Carson back at quarterback, but it
- 44:12really seems like this identity is a little bit different.
- 44:16It kind of seems more like a crystal ball team where, you
- 44:19know, they're really good on both lines of scrimmage.
- 44:22I think that that's going to be tough for USF to overcome.
- 44:26And I think that you're going to see the value of like being in a
- 44:30a bigger, tougher conference, whereas USF, they're not used to
- 44:35taking these blows one week after the other.
- 44:37So having Florida last week, they're, you know, in their
- 44:41honeymoon phase of winning that game.
- 44:43I think the Cinderella story's over.
- 44:44Think they're going to lose this game to Miami. 17 points is
- 44:48really where where I'm at. I really think that Miami could,
- 44:51you know, it's 3 possessions, but you know, not something
- 44:55where they're completely blowing them out.
- 44:57I think I'm going to go ahead and take Miami to cover the
- 45:00points though, 17 1/2. It's right there where I really
- 45:05want to take the points with South Florida, but I'm just
- 45:08going to take Miami. I feel like there is a chance
- 45:10that once the the back has been broken, that does kind of get
- 45:14away late, perhaps a late cover touchdown after after, you know,
- 45:20the game is basically been won at the kind of put the nail in
- 45:23the coffin. But give me Miami, lay the
- 45:25points, South Florida, great story, good opponent.
- 45:29This isn't like they're just playing nobody, but going
- 45:32back-to-back weeks against this physical of team is just going
- 45:35to be too tough. Yeah, this is, you know, I would
- 45:38still argue this is look ahead spot despite South Florida being
- 45:41on firmly on the radar. They still have 40 next week.
- 45:45I'm with you on that. This is a line of scrimmage
- 45:47game. USF doesn't have the guys.
- 45:49And here's the thing, I, I I think Miami has a serious
- 45:51advantage on both lines of scrimmage.
- 45:54I would have said that last week going into the Florida game.
- 45:56And I just don't think Florida's opposite line is nearly as good
- 46:00as I thought it was going to be right.
- 46:02South Florida's defensive line was able to get some push.
- 46:04I don't think I've already seen Miami's both lines of scrimmage
- 46:07be very good against Notre Dame, who has whose identity as a
- 46:11program is good in the lines of scrimmage show.
- 46:13I trust Miami's lines of scrimmage a lot more in this
- 46:17game. Therefore, I worry about USF,
- 46:19especially their past defense against Beck and these
- 46:21receivers. I'm with you on the I just don't
- 46:24think I don't think they're going to win the game.
- 46:26That being said, it's 17 1/2 points.
- 46:28Yeah. I think it's too many points by
- 46:311/2 point. Like I really do see this is
- 46:33like a 38 to 21 game where maybe USF scores a late touchdown to
- 46:38get a cover and it was 3814. And Miami's like, look, we've
- 46:41got a long season. We've got Florida next week,
- 46:43let's put the backups in. And the half point does scare me
- 46:47enough. And USFI think this is a Super
- 46:51Bowl. They could go beat Florida and
- 46:52Miami. My wife's also a USF graduate.
- 46:56So give me the Bulls and the points.
- 46:57I think Miami wins. I think it's convincing.
- 47:01Give me South Florida, the Bulls and the 17 1/2 points.
- 47:05I think Miami might win this thing by 17 and I'll be sitting
- 47:08here with a with a South Florida cover I meant to bring.
- 47:12I've got a South Florida hat meant to wear that today, but
- 47:17that's OK. It's with us in spirit.
- 47:20The nightcap, Daniel on NBC, the Golden Dome touchdown.
- 47:25Jesus, South Bend IN Notre Dame versus texting.
- 47:29This is a great game. Last year that Notre Dame kind
- 47:31of got into an early lead. Do they get to an early lead or
- 47:34they break it open late? I know it never seemed like A&M
- 47:36had a chance in the game. It was either the guy totally
- 47:39lead and sat on him or it was neck and neck and it felt like
- 47:42Notre Dame should have had to lead the whole time.
- 47:44Now I can't remember, but Notre Dame gets the return trip from
- 47:46Texas A&M. They won in week one in
- 47:49Aggieland last year. Now Texas A&M's got to go to
- 47:52South Bend. first Test for A&M. Notre Dame's been tested.
- 47:57Both teams need this win great out of conference matchup.
- 48:00Dingo, who do you like in South Bend?
- 48:02Yeah. So Notre Dame so far this season
- 48:05and Notre Dame has has looked the part that when they played
- 48:08against Miami, I thought they were just going to fill out
- 48:12physical Miami, Miami out physical them and really
- 48:16dominated the middle eight of the game right at the end of
- 48:20half, beginning of the next half.
- 48:21And I think that's what really put put Notre Dame kind of
- 48:25behind the 8 ball. The fact that they came storming
- 48:27back and made that a game and almost almost won the game there
- 48:30at the end they tied it. I think that's going to say a
- 48:33lot about this team. I think Notre Dame comes out to
- 48:35win. I'm curious with Texas A&M, we
- 48:39still have not seen, we haven't seen Reed have to do too much in
- 48:48the past game. He's been like a one read down
- 48:50the field and and take off with the ball.
- 48:54I don't think that that could win you the game against Notre
- 48:57Dame. If he kind of, you know,
- 49:00develops a little bit in this game and and you start to see
- 49:03him make plays to those receivers.
- 49:06I I feel a little bit better about texting him hanging in
- 49:08there. Marcel Reed, us us trying to
- 49:11filibuster while is finding his name and his last name was Reed.
- 49:14He's their leading rusher this year as well.
- 49:17So, you know, I've got questions about about that Jacob.
- 49:20They're one of the teams that I said at the beginning of the
- 49:22year, I would not be surprised if they make the playoff.
- 49:24I think I had them actually in my playoff.
- 49:26I wouldn't be surprised if they want one.
- 49:29The SEC in the sense that they have the talent to do so.
- 49:33They're over 80% in the blue chip ratio, team talent
- 49:37composites very high. They've got guys on this team
- 49:41that could play. I think most of the developed
- 49:43talent is on the defensive side of the ball, so I do think that
- 49:47that's going to lead to this being a low scoring game.
- 49:49I just think Notre Dame is too good of a team at home to lose.
- 49:53They've only played the one game against Miami, so they've been
- 49:56sitting on it for two weeks. So yeah, give me, give me the
- 50:00Irish. I'm going to lay the points.
- 50:02It's a 7 point spread. It's just, I mean, I would argue
- 50:06it's a stinker if it was 6 1/2. I feel good about touchdown. 7
- 50:10points. I mean, no, give me, but I think
- 50:14by the end of that, we're looking at a Notre Dame 10 point
- 50:16win. And I think it's low scoring.
- 50:18I think you're looking at 2414 kind of a game where Notre Dame
- 50:23is really, you know, put the clamps on this Texas A&M
- 50:26offense. But just over the course of the
- 50:30game, you know, I think Notre Dame has had an identity check
- 50:34against Miami and you're going to see CJ Carr not in his first
- 50:38game, he'll be in his second game.
- 50:40And I think Jeremiah Love will get more carries and they'll,
- 50:45you know, kind of, hey, let's play the hits, Let's do what got
- 50:49us to the College Football Playoff last year, to the
- 50:52national championship game. Let's do that again this year.
- 50:55And again, I feel like they're going to be right there where
- 50:58they need to be. Give me the Irish lead points.
- 51:01OK. What's the other names identity
- 51:03this year? That's the question I have is CJ
- 51:06Carr, at least through a couple games and he actually got tested
- 51:09in week 1. Don't think he's the answer
- 51:11through the air yet. The receivers I have some
- 51:13questions about. I will say, Daniel, I disagree a
- 51:16little bit in that I don't know if this is as low scoring as you
- 51:20say it's going to be. Neither defense has lived up to
- 51:23their team standard yet. Both of these head coaches have
- 51:27a very high standard of excellence when it comes to
- 51:29defense. I don't think either defense has
- 51:32lived up to that standard yet. I mean, Texas saying it gave up
- 51:35over 20 points to UTSA and Utah State, I don't think that's up
- 51:40to their standard as a defense. Texas A&M's passing offense is
- 51:43an improvement on last year. Still waiting to see more from
- 51:47the rushing offense from A and MI Do think like when when Notre
- 51:51Dame's passing the ball, I do think Texas A&M's past defense
- 51:55has the advantage when that's going on in this game.
- 51:58Now when Notre Dame's rushed the ball, I actually think Notre
- 52:00Dame's offense is a big advantage rushing so far at
- 52:03least we look at opponent adjusted stats like texting.
- 52:06Texting his defense have been one of the worst in the country
- 52:08gets the run thus far, which isn't good when you're playing
- 52:10bad opponents, especially against UTSA in game one, their
- 52:14running back went 16 carries for 177 yards against the Texas A&M
- 52:18defense. That's not a great sign when
- 52:20you're about to go up against a Notre Dame offensive line and
- 52:23Jeremiah Love on the other side. And then when texting him is on
- 52:26offense, I do like their passing offense better.
- 52:30I guess the Notre Dame pass defense that obviously they lost
- 52:34like some corners and safety to the draft last year, but I do
- 52:37think A&M has an advantage there at receiver and with Marshall
- 52:39Reed. But then again, if I look at the
- 52:41other side when Texas A&M is running the ball, I love Notre
- 52:44Dame's run defense to actually hold them down.
- 52:46Like Beck was able to get some air yards, but they pretty much
- 52:48shut down Miami's run game. I'm in that game, especially
- 52:50when they started coming back. I do think it's going to be a
- 52:53close game and I'll take the team.
- 52:56They can stop the run and run the ball better in Notre Dame.
- 53:00But at 7:00, I think it's gonna be a closer game and I think
- 53:04it's gonna be a higher scoring than last year.
- 53:05Last year this was 24 to 13 in College Station.
- 53:09I think Notre Dame Wednesday and you're like 31 to 28, which
- 53:12would go over the number here. So I like it to be, and I say
- 53:16not high scoring. I think higher scoring compared
- 53:18to last year, right, compared to what these teams are used to.
- 53:21So I like Notre Dame to win. I do like A&M to cover on the
- 53:25road here. I think I'm with you on like 6
- 53:281/2. I would be very tempted to take
- 53:30Notre Dame at 7:00. I just, I've seen Notre Dame.
- 53:33I haven't seen AM yet. I don't know enough.
- 53:35But from what I've seen, I think they can hang with them on the
- 53:38road and I don't think either one of these teams are going to
- 53:40blow the other one out. I'm confident Notre Dame wins.
- 53:44I'm taking the points with Tex A&M.
- 53:46So that that completes my, you know, this is my week of the
- 53:49road teams. I took every Rd. team either as
- 53:52a favorite or took points with Rd. teams this week.
- 53:54So this is my roads. Favorites.
- 53:56I'm realizing that. Hey, you should get at least 50%
- 54:00then you know I get the spread. Yeah, we, by the way, we have
- 54:04our own little formula. I guess we're doing.
- 54:06You're going all Rd. I'm going all favorites and
- 54:08we'll see which one ends up working.
- 54:10See what? Works out, right.
- 54:12We are both four and five on the season.
- 54:14So that's sitting at, I'm looking here 44% against the
- 54:19number. We both need a three in one
- 54:20week, which we can do. We can, we can both, you know,
- 54:23get the games we picked together correctly and then split the
- 54:26other ones. And that would get us both at at
- 54:294:00 and 1:00, which would be a a win for the pod.
- 54:32Go three and one, get us above 500 and then live above there
- 54:35for the rest of the season, which would be great.
- 54:37Absolutely. Be sure to follow us here at the
- 54:40Extra Point pod on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram.
- 54:43We'll see it next week with our Week 4 episode with our four
- 54:47quarters recap in Week 3 and picking the next week the week
- 54:51ahead. Be sure to follow Daniel on
- 54:53Twitter at New South. Daniel, you can follow me on
- 54:55Twitter at Jacob Karns with AK. That'll do it for this edition
- 54:58of The Extra Point. He is Daniel.
- 55:00I am Jacob. See ya.
