- 0:04Speaker 1: There is he's up.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Good morning, some morning, it's afternoon and whole yeah, my
- 0:11Speaker 2: beauty sleep did not get taken. I don't even know
- 0:14Speaker 2: what the word is.
- 0:16Speaker 3: This is good.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We're gonna see how many times we mess up just
- 0:20Speaker 1: saying words.
- 0:21Speaker 2: I mean today, listen, I gave up coffee, but today.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Yep, you're back. Wow. I mean look Kratz. Producer Lady
- 0:31Speaker 1: asked me a question like do you want this or this?
- 0:33Speaker 1: And I replied yep. And it wasn't like on purpose.
- 0:37Speaker 1: She was like no, I asked if you want this
- 0:39Speaker 1: or this and you said yes? Uh, speaking of which are.
- 0:43Speaker 2: Well, that's because West Producer Lady was like this while
- 0:46Speaker 2: we were up till four in the morning. She was
- 0:48Speaker 2: sleeping because you know, she has to get her sleep
- 0:51Speaker 2: in her eight hours otherwise she is super cranky.
- 0:54Speaker 1: She was working on something for us and we have it.
- 0:57Speaker 1: There was a yeah mission slip put together by us.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Dear producer Lady. Game three of the World Series went
- 1:06Speaker 1: eighteen innings. Can you please excuse aj Eric and Scott
- 1:10Speaker 1: from work slash school for me? I call it school.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Please circle to circle no. If you have any questions,
- 1:19Speaker 1: please contact Dodgers on your social media accounts. That's what
- 1:21Speaker 1: the Dodgers put out there. But we got to know.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I think a lot of people got to Yes, we
- 1:25Speaker 1: got to know.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I think I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure we're gonna
- 1:30Speaker 2: I don't know if we're gonna have a single commercial
- 1:31Speaker 2: all day, not a single break aj one more?
- 1:38Speaker 3: Well more?
- 1:38Speaker 2: What just always one more? So that we don't because
- 1:42Speaker 2: we don't get permission to have.
- 1:43Speaker 3: All Yeah, wait, what do you do?
- 1:47Speaker 1: Just explain to everyone real quick. One more means when
- 1:50Speaker 1: we are chit chatting behind the scenes on a text
- 1:53Speaker 1: group or on slack for who's up next to ask
- 1:56Speaker 1: a question. Usually we are pushing it on timing, and
- 2:00Speaker 1: then we say one more, one more question.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and producer lady likes to throw the knife at you. Yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 2: usually right in the back.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yes, well but no, that.
- 2:15Speaker 2: What a game.
- 2:16Speaker 3: I mean, let's yeah, I got.
- 2:19Speaker 1: A charge, so I want you to Thanks to everyone
- 2:21Speaker 1: that was watching the post game last night. We are
- 2:23Speaker 1: doing a post game after game four. The post game
- 2:25Speaker 1: after Game three was one of the best post games
- 2:27Speaker 1: we've ever done, so you can check it out after
- 2:29Speaker 1: the show if you'd like. Also, just throwing this out
- 2:32Speaker 1: there to hit upfoul territory shop dot com. Some people
- 2:35Speaker 1: were like, I want to get more left f t
- 2:36Speaker 1: there's a good way to do it. I'm wearing something,
- 2:38Speaker 1: Crats is wearing something. It is almost always got the
- 2:40Speaker 1: hat on too, So there you go. Yep, we've all
- 2:43Speaker 1: got merch on. So appreciate you and Marlin's man.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I look like Marlin's man moving my hat around like
- 2:49Speaker 2: all d no, no.
- 2:50Speaker 1: You have to do you have to do this. This
- 2:52Speaker 1: is on every pitch. Yeah, yeah, every pitch he works
- 3:00Speaker 1: for Fox. He's trying to get the fine. The crowd
- 3:06Speaker 1: shot from behind him. Play epic. All right, let's charge
- 3:09Speaker 1: the mounds, charge the mount, and charge the mount. Is
- 3:15Speaker 1: presented by MLB Rivals, Free to play game downloaded wherever
- 3:20Speaker 1: you download your games. All right, what do you got
- 3:22Speaker 1: for us?
- 3:24Speaker 2: What a game? What a game? Yeah? I didn't know
- 3:29Speaker 2: that a game could top the fifteen inning game that
- 3:31Speaker 2: we did at the end of the division series, but
- 3:34Speaker 2: last night's kind of did. The only difference was it
- 3:37Speaker 2: wasn't a winner take all game. But I mean from
- 3:39Speaker 2: defensive plays, offensive plays, base running, miscues, base running, good
- 3:44Speaker 2: offensive guys crouch his law can't get any kind of
- 3:47Speaker 2: hit for him. I mean, the only guy that couldn't
- 3:48Speaker 2: come through was his guy. I mean pitching guys stepping
- 3:52Speaker 2: up that have never thrown more than thirty six pitches,
- 3:55Speaker 2: not thirty for all the people that are getting it
- 3:57Speaker 2: wrong out there, thirty six pitches in his big league career,
- 4:00Speaker 2: throwing four innings, Eric Lauer going four and two thirds.
- 4:03Speaker 2: I mean, what an epic game. And Freddy Freeman doesn't
- 4:06Speaker 2: get my boy, Freddy. I didn't text you today, Freddy
- 4:08Speaker 2: because I figured you got a million texts and I
- 4:10Speaker 2: don't want to be that guy. But thank you Freddy
- 4:13Speaker 2: finally ending this, because if you didn't hit that home
- 4:15Speaker 2: or Freddy sho Hey would be on his twelfth intentional
- 4:17Speaker 2: walk and I'd still be sitting in the same spot
- 4:19Speaker 2: and I would have two picks in my eyes, hold
- 4:21Speaker 2: them up like this.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Well, how does this work though? For game four? Like,
- 4:27Speaker 1: how do guys recover from this? I mean they go home?
- 4:31Speaker 1: You it's no big deal, crats because I mean, also,
- 4:33Speaker 1: it was in the on the West coast. It wasn't
- 4:35Speaker 1: that late. I mean it was late, but it wasn't
- 4:37Speaker 1: like crazy. And it's not like they're playing a night
- 4:39Speaker 1: into a day. Game to me when I'm looking at
- 4:41Speaker 1: the recovery time, I mean it's more the game that
- 4:45Speaker 1: was played. They'll get sleep, right, I mean they have
- 4:47Speaker 1: time to get whatever they get and then get to
- 4:51Speaker 1: the ballpark.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I caught two eighteen inning games, not like coming in halfway,
- 4:57Speaker 2: so I know where Will Smith's at. And I honestly,
- 5:00Speaker 2: after both of those games, I was not sore. And
- 5:04Speaker 2: I called him when I was thirty six and thirty
- 5:06Speaker 2: nine were my two eighteen inning games, Like you just
- 5:10Speaker 2: kind of keep going through the motions. You keep you
- 5:14Speaker 2: just keep being ready. Maybe in two days you'd be sore.
- 5:18Speaker 2: But soreness that's like a hot, cold toe that has
- 5:22Speaker 2: some contrast, maybe little ivory profen like you're ready to go.
- 5:27Speaker 2: You're not sitting there in a game. He won't be
- 5:29Speaker 2: sitting in their game tonight, or at least I was
- 5:32Speaker 2: not sitting in the next game, going, oh man, I
- 5:35Speaker 2: can barely even move, Like I don't even know how
- 5:39Speaker 2: I'm gonna be able to do this, Like no, you
- 5:42Speaker 2: physically you just go out there and do it. Mentally,
- 5:45Speaker 2: you're like, I hope we don't do that again. I
- 5:51Speaker 2: called I think an eighteen inning game in the minor leagues,
- 5:53Speaker 2: and I caught a nineteen inning game in the big
- 5:55Speaker 2: leagues this day before the All Star break, so I
- 5:58Speaker 2: got lucky. And then but I had to go to
- 5:59Speaker 2: the All Star Game, and it was a game where
- 6:01Speaker 2: Ozzie told me he was a manager in two thousand
- 6:03Speaker 2: and six. And I wasn't gonna play no matter what.
- 6:05Speaker 2: So I kind of just sat there like this and
- 6:07Speaker 2: was like, cheers, boys, you guys go get him. And
- 6:09Speaker 2: I was the last guy on a bench coffee coffee,
- 6:13Speaker 2: and and I remember that it got down and it
- 6:16Speaker 2: was a close game, and Ozzie's like, you're our last
- 6:19Speaker 2: position player. You might have to use you. And I
- 6:21Speaker 2: was like me, You're gonna have to use me? Like
- 6:23Speaker 2: are you sure? Ozzie meant I've had too much coffee,
- 6:26Speaker 2: and so didn't end up needing me. But uh yeah,
- 6:30Speaker 2: I mean I wasn't sore. It was just more of
- 6:32Speaker 2: I was a little bit tired because we had to
- 6:34Speaker 2: jump on a flight after the game and fly to
- 6:36Speaker 2: Pittsburgh and we were in Chicago. But other than that,
- 6:38Speaker 2: I wasn't sore. And I remember catching plenty of extra
- 6:41Speaker 2: any games, being like all right, I'm ready to go
- 6:42Speaker 2: the next day. I think Will Smith will be fine.
- 6:44Speaker 2: I think Alejandra Kirk will be fine. It's the freaking
- 6:47Speaker 2: World Series. Figure it out, go home, you know, drink
- 6:51Speaker 2: some extra coffee, whatever you gotta do to get loose.
- 6:53Speaker 2: I wasn't a big hot tub, cold tub guy, but
- 6:55Speaker 2: some guys like that, get a massage, whatever it takes
- 6:57Speaker 2: to be ready. It's the World Series. These guys will
- 6:59Speaker 2: be ready a j.
- 7:02Speaker 1: I liked what John Schneider said after the game about
- 7:07Speaker 1: a quote devastating loss. He didn't say that part, but
- 7:11Speaker 1: his reply to losing a tough game like this was
- 7:14Speaker 1: one game, and I know it sounds simple, but I
- 7:16Speaker 1: mean they're down two games to one. So I think
- 7:21Speaker 1: the general public looks at what happened and says, oh, well,
- 7:25Speaker 1: it's over now. I mean, that was such a grueling
- 7:29Speaker 1: marathon that the Dodgers won. I mean, they've got all
- 7:33Speaker 1: the momentum. It's over.
- 7:36Speaker 3: No.
- 7:36Speaker 2: But I think I think it's more they look at
- 7:39Speaker 2: the way the pitching is lined up. They pushed beaver back.
- 7:41Speaker 2: You have show Hay pitching, and I who could be
- 7:43Speaker 2: tired because he was on base nine times last night, right,
- 7:46Speaker 2: But Bieber didn't pitch great time time out he did, Yeah,
- 7:49Speaker 2: I mean he did drinks some What did a talk
- 7:52Speaker 2: to Glassnow? What's pickle juice? What do you say he
- 7:53Speaker 2: drinks pickle juice? Whatever? Boss now sorted drinking to get
- 7:56Speaker 2: rid of his cramps, So glassnow knows how to get
- 7:58Speaker 2: rid of cramps. But yeah, I mean, I think it's
- 8:01Speaker 2: because Baber's pitch, and you have show Hay on the mound,
- 8:02Speaker 2: then you have snow Yamamoto, all those guys lined up.
- 8:06Speaker 2: The biggest question mark for me, though, is who's gonna pitch?
- 8:09Speaker 2: Because there's a bunch of guys that are down. I
- 8:11Speaker 2: guess Bassett's available and some other guys are available. But
- 8:14Speaker 2: you got to get some innings out of your starters today.
- 8:16Speaker 2: So who's gonna pitch? That's what's gonna be fascinating to
- 8:19Speaker 2: see who's available from the pitching side, and where's George Springer?
- 8:22Speaker 2: Is George Springer?
- 8:23Speaker 3: Okay?
- 8:23Speaker 2: Today? I listen. It was one game. It just feels
- 8:26Speaker 2: like when you use all these resources, the winner of
- 8:29Speaker 2: these games usually comes out better.
- 8:31Speaker 4: Now.
- 8:31Speaker 3: I know.
- 8:31Speaker 2: When they had the atn inning game last time in
- 8:33Speaker 2: Dodger Stadium, the Red Sox used Dvaldi for like eight
- 8:36Speaker 2: innings and you ended up getting lost, and they ended
- 8:38Speaker 2: up winning the series. But the Blue Jays used a
- 8:40Speaker 2: bunch more guys. The Dodgers used a bunch more guys.
- 8:44Speaker 2: I just feel like with the Dodgers being at home,
- 8:46Speaker 2: that's the momentum. That's the momentum that they're gonna ride.
- 8:49Speaker 2: But we'll see, we'll see. It's been a heck of
- 8:51Speaker 2: a series. These first three games have been awesome to
- 8:53Speaker 2: watch so far. I mean, pitching matchup, they've been behind,
- 8:59Speaker 2: they've been behind the eight ball and the pitching matchup
- 9:01Speaker 2: the whole time. I think, I think when you talk
- 9:04Speaker 2: about these four guys, show Hey, Yamamoto, Blake Snell, and
- 9:09Speaker 2: Glass now to me the most like physically intimidating mom
- 9:14Speaker 2: star as they were talking about as John Schneider was
- 9:18Speaker 2: talking about saying they're like space jam was Glass Now,
- 9:22Speaker 2: and I thought they had a good approach against them.
- 9:24Speaker 2: You're gonna have to develop your approach against show Hey,
- 9:27Speaker 2: and that's how they get back in this. Like it's
- 9:30Speaker 2: a devastating loss only if you make it devastating. Only
- 9:34Speaker 2: if you sit there and you're riding home on the bus, like, oh,
- 9:37Speaker 2: I had a chance we could have won this, or
- 9:41Speaker 2: you're like, in the regular season, how am I gonna
- 9:44Speaker 2: get after show? Hey, it's a night game after night game.
- 9:47Speaker 2: It's not like we've got a quick turnaround, am I.
- 9:50Speaker 2: What do I need to do? Is he gonna spin
- 9:52Speaker 2: a bunch of breaking balls up there like the last
- 9:56Speaker 2: two right handers have. Because if that's the case, I
- 9:58Speaker 2: know what I need to sit on it and you start
- 10:00Speaker 2: thinking about beating that guy. You know, if you sit
- 10:02Speaker 2: there and sulk about your loss, like we could have
- 10:05Speaker 2: done this, should have done that, Star base Code, shouldn't
- 10:07Speaker 2: have like, you just keep bringing up negative stuff and
- 10:09Speaker 2: that doesn't help you win tonight's game.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Hey, if you want to take care of yourself, your body,
- 10:18Speaker 1: and everything that goes into health, fitness, and nutrition, Superpower
- 10:23Speaker 1: provides crats what I would call the pro experience for
- 10:26Speaker 1: the everyday person, one.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Hundred percent super easy. You get your lab test results
- 10:32Speaker 2: back and you can streamline exactly what you're deficient in.
- 10:36Speaker 2: You can say, Okay, this is what the results told me.
- 10:40Speaker 2: I'm gonna go ahead and maybe look for that in
- 10:43Speaker 2: a supplement which they provide. I'm gonna go ahead and
- 10:46Speaker 2: look at that in my daily workouts which they give
- 10:49Speaker 2: so many different ideas of how to make sure your
- 10:53Speaker 2: deficiencies become some of your superpowers.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Superpower used to cost four in your ninety nine dollars
- 11:00Speaker 1: to superpower dot com right now to learn more and
- 11:02Speaker 1: lock in the special one hundred and ninety nine dollars
- 11:04Speaker 1: price while it lasts. After you sign up, they'll ask
- 11:06Speaker 1: you how you heard about them and make sure you
- 11:08Speaker 1: mentioned ft your biology decoded, your blueprint activated with Superpower?
- 11:16Speaker 1: Is there anything that the Dodgers can take out of
- 11:19Speaker 1: shutting down the Blue Jays? What are we supposed to go?
- 11:23Speaker 3: No?
- 11:23Speaker 2: I no, I was just saying that what krat said
- 11:25Speaker 2: is right.
- 11:25Speaker 3: You just move on.
- 11:26Speaker 2: This is again, this is the World Series, okay, like
- 11:30Speaker 2: one loss. Not that I've never lost a World Series game,
- 11:33Speaker 2: so I don't know how it feels, but just saying,
- 11:36Speaker 2: if you lose one game in the playoffs, you just
- 11:38Speaker 2: move on to the next game. You don't you don't
- 11:40Speaker 2: even think about the last game. It's like troop Baseball players,
- 11:43Speaker 2: most of them are really good at You can compartment car, car, pet,
- 11:47Speaker 2: compartmental almost anything in baseball. If you're gonna, if you're
- 11:51Speaker 2: a great player, you can shut things off in your brain.
- 11:54Speaker 2: You can shut off home life, you can shut off
- 11:56Speaker 2: things that are happening away from the field, right crafts
- 11:58Speaker 2: like you can shut off losses, shut out bad at bats.
- 12:01Speaker 2: If you can't, then you're not probably gonna make it.
- 12:03Speaker 2: So you have to be able to do that, and
- 12:04Speaker 2: you become better and better as you get older. But yeah,
- 12:06Speaker 2: it's one game. It's the World Series. Like, what are
- 12:09Speaker 2: we thinking about here? It's the World Series?
- 12:11Speaker 3: Move on, I get that part.
- 12:13Speaker 1: So we're showing the MLB rivals cards of some of
- 12:16Speaker 1: the Blue Jays bats right now. And Kirk was only
- 12:18Speaker 1: in for what ended up being about half the game.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Laddie was in there. The Blue Jays have a dynamic
- 12:25Speaker 1: offense right It's looked at as the best offense in
- 12:28Speaker 1: baseball this year, contact, slug depth, et cetera. Vladdie doing
- 12:35Speaker 1: what he's doing right now. Obviously the Dodgers have a
- 12:37Speaker 1: great offense as well. But the question I have is
- 12:41Speaker 1: did last night change things in terms of how to
- 12:44Speaker 1: pitch this team and that you have some relievers who
- 12:48Speaker 1: have found it again. I brought this up on the
- 12:50Speaker 1: post game show. No, you don't think any of that
- 12:52Speaker 1: was a thing last night, I mean the blue after
- 12:54Speaker 1: about the long ass time.
- 12:56Speaker 2: Because they had their whole bench in the I mean, listen,
- 13:01Speaker 2: these guys are big leaguers, but they had their bench
- 13:03Speaker 2: in the game. They're no Bow, no Kirk, uh, no Barger,
- 13:08Speaker 2: no uh no Springer right, so it changes. Vladdy was like,
- 13:14Speaker 2: no offense to these other guys. But Lucas didn't have
- 13:17Speaker 2: a great night, Vladdie. They were like, okay, who's hitting
- 13:20Speaker 2: behind Vladdie? Now, oh, okay, we'll take our chances with
- 13:22Speaker 2: that person. I k f right now, Vladdie, you guy.
- 13:27Speaker 2: And then and then Heineman came in no offense to
- 13:28Speaker 2: hine him in. He's a big league player, but he's
- 13:30Speaker 2: not Alejandro Kirk, especially after hitting the three run homer.
- 13:34Speaker 2: So I think it was they what they learned. They
- 13:36Speaker 2: learned that they need to keep the starters in as
- 13:38Speaker 2: long as possible. And for the Dodgers, I mean, if anything,
- 13:41Speaker 2: the Dodgers should be more upset because they had Jesus.
- 13:43Speaker 2: It was like base loaded, Freddy up, Muki up, Freddy
- 13:46Speaker 2: Muki up, Freddy up. Flyball to the warning track fly ball,
- 13:48Speaker 2: the warning track fly ball. It's like, geez, maybe they
- 13:51Speaker 2: need to figure out a way to get a hit.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Maybe it's not on the Blue Jays. I think the
- 13:56Speaker 2: Blue Jays. I think when you can navigate a lineup,
- 13:58Speaker 2: when you set out and you see the whole line
- 14:01Speaker 2: of starting lineup or the guys that come in, you
- 14:04Speaker 2: always know where certain guys are. And unfortunately, when you
- 14:08Speaker 2: have Miles Straw in the game, when you have Heineman
- 14:12Speaker 2: in the game, when you have your second pinch hitter
- 14:16Speaker 2: in the game, David Schneider after ty Frantz came out
- 14:20Speaker 2: of the game, ikf is in the game, you sit
- 14:23Speaker 2: there and you go, I know where they're at. I
- 14:26Speaker 2: know that I don't need to make a pitch to
- 14:30Speaker 2: Ernie Clement who's been swinging it, Nathan Lucas who's been
- 14:33Speaker 2: swinging it. And if you go back and look at
- 14:35Speaker 2: like challenge pitches middle middle to some of those guys,
- 14:39Speaker 2: they don't need to do it. And when these guys
- 14:42Speaker 2: chase out of the zone, you get weaker contact. And
- 14:46Speaker 2: then you get to the guys that you're like, Okay,
- 14:48Speaker 2: I can go middle middle with these guys because I
- 14:50Speaker 2: know they're not gonna take me out of the ballpark.
- 14:52Speaker 2: I know they're you know, they could get a base hit,
- 14:55Speaker 2: but consistently drive the ball out of the out of
- 14:58Speaker 2: the yard. Like I just think people underestimate what it
- 15:02Speaker 2: means to have holes in the lineup. I could watch
- 15:05Speaker 2: it from the other side when I was in the
- 15:08Speaker 2: batting order. You could see, Hey, we're not gonna let
- 15:10Speaker 2: the six hitter beat us because Kratz is on deck
- 15:13Speaker 2: and we have one out.
- 15:15Speaker 3: We have that.
- 15:15Speaker 2: You know, you figure out how to navigate lineups and
- 15:19Speaker 2: no more important than in the playoffs.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Yeah, look at the other side. I know that abats
- 15:25Speaker 1: might look a little better the last couple of games,
- 15:27Speaker 1: but imagine if the nine spot was getting on even
- 15:31Speaker 1: a little bit more, and how scary that would be
- 15:35Speaker 1: for opposing pitchers facing show Heyo Tani Pias has been
- 15:39Speaker 1: an auto out almost every time, and I think we
- 15:42Speaker 1: all agree that he's the best option to start games
- 15:45Speaker 1: and he's the center fielder're holding it down for a
- 15:48Speaker 1: team that's got good up the middle defense here, But
- 15:51Speaker 1: imagine if that was more of a problem spot. By
- 15:55Speaker 1: the way, I just randomly thought about this. The one
- 15:57Speaker 1: move where I was like, this is absolutely dumb and
- 16:00Speaker 1: I disagree with this was intentionally walking Andre Samenez. Do
- 16:05Speaker 1: you guys agree with that. I'm like, that has to
- 16:07Speaker 1: be something from the analytics office saying that this pitcher's
- 16:11Speaker 1: pitches don't line up with David schneider swings because also,
- 16:14Speaker 1: David Schneider this year is reverse splitz. I know you
- 16:17Speaker 1: want him against lefties, but you've got reverse splitz. Not
- 16:19Speaker 1: like you can get right into pitching. So I'm like,
- 16:21Speaker 1: you're walking commence to get to Schneider, and then you're
- 16:25Speaker 1: also getting yourself one step closer to Bladdie.
- 16:28Speaker 2: It worked, it worked, you got a hit. Okay, Schneider
- 16:31Speaker 2: got a hit, but the dog is in the game.
- 16:37Speaker 2: They did get it, But I agree with it. Scott.
- 16:41Speaker 2: I felt like that was kind of a brain fart.
- 16:43Speaker 2: That was like the oh, there's a left up there,
- 16:45Speaker 2: Well let's wait, yeah, let's walk them. Wait no, no, no,
- 16:48Speaker 2: wait wait wait wait wait, we've been we've been getting
- 16:50Speaker 2: you ka crats. Listen, you want to know why, because
- 16:53Speaker 2: then you don't have after the game, you don't have
- 16:54Speaker 2: to answer the questions why'd you pitch the lefty and say,
- 16:56Speaker 2: jim And gets a hit with the right on deck.
- 16:59Speaker 2: If you walk them, guess what, then there's no questions.
- 17:01Speaker 2: If Scheider gets a hit to win the game, then
- 17:03Speaker 2: there's no questions. It's it's really this. You know, those
- 17:08Speaker 2: cratch You've been around long enough, and I've been I've
- 17:09Speaker 2: been around long enough too. But here's the thing. Like
- 17:13Speaker 2: a lot of managers that you play for. And I'm
- 17:14Speaker 2: not saying any manager, either manager in this series, but
- 17:16Speaker 2: I played for managers that all they managed for was
- 17:19Speaker 2: the questions after the game, right, why'd we bring in
- 17:21Speaker 2: this guy? Why did we do this? Why do we
- 17:23Speaker 2: do this?
- 17:23Speaker 3: Whoa?
- 17:24Speaker 2: So when the media asked me after the game, they
- 17:25Speaker 2: won't admit it, but you know, so the media after
- 17:27Speaker 2: the game, when they asked me why we did that,
- 17:29Speaker 2: I could say, well, we brought the left end to
- 17:30Speaker 2: face the left here, we brought the right in and
- 17:32Speaker 2: we will whatever you know, how it is. And that's
- 17:34Speaker 2: I'm not saying this is what happened there, but this
- 17:36Speaker 2: definitely goes through their mind a lot of times, as
- 17:38Speaker 2: managers is even though this might be a better matchup,
- 17:41Speaker 2: but the left on right, if he gets the hit,
- 17:42Speaker 2: then I'm never going to hear the end of it.
- 17:46Speaker 1: Cheers, cheers, All right, that was good chat. We'll keep
- 17:56Speaker 1: going on this. Of course, we're going to take a
- 17:58Speaker 1: different angle on the fun that was had during this stretch,
- 18:04Speaker 1: including fruit platters like you were getting a cabana at
- 18:09Speaker 1: a beach club. We'll go over that coming up. We
- 18:13Speaker 1: have a ton of guests too today, including Kevin Burkhart
- 18:17Speaker 1: from Fox our buddy joining us. But shout out to
- 18:21Speaker 1: MLB Rivals. There's the game. Don't worry, Bryce, You're staying

- 18:52Speaker 4: In baseball, one thing defines your legacy, the Hall of Same,
- 18:57Speaker 4: a place reserved for immortals, those few who have sacrificed
- 19:01Speaker 4: thought and bled for the game, with a rain mag
- 19:05Speaker 4: every swing, every play, every challenge faced. It's about achieving
- 19:10Speaker 4: greatness that echoes through time, and now is your time.
- 19:16Speaker 4: The rise to the challenge, chase immortality and become a legend.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Download MB rivals. Hey we're back. We have a super
- 19:24Speaker 1: chat too that I'll read. Mikey said, no bullpen who
- 19:28Speaker 1: back to back champs? Not yet? Keep in mind we're
- 19:31Speaker 1: missing key arms in the bullpen. Phillips Kopek, graderol Vesier
- 19:36Speaker 1: Gasparius Scotty said, trade for schoogle with the hashtag, you
- 19:40Speaker 1: want to really make people excited. But a couple other
- 19:43Speaker 1: people in the chat have brought up depth aj and
- 19:45Speaker 1: I do think that part's important. The front office nerds
- 19:48Speaker 1: out to decide who is the last pitcher that they
- 19:51Speaker 1: are going to put on the roster, and that changes
- 19:53Speaker 1: frequently for almost any team throughout each round. Whoever raised
- 19:58Speaker 1: their hand and said Will Klein's got to be on there,
- 20:00Speaker 1: good job.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Yeah, but they didn't have They had Will Climb pitching
- 20:04Speaker 2: in a blowout, not in the fifteenth, sixteenth, seventeenth, eighteenth
- 20:08Speaker 2: of a pivotal World Series game. I mean, yeah, good
- 20:11Speaker 2: job for them, but yeah, yeah, awesome for Will client
- 20:14Speaker 2: till moment, he'll never forget his family will never forget
- 20:16Speaker 2: that if they go on and win the series, the
- 20:17Speaker 2: Dodger lore will never forget so great job for whatever
- 20:21Speaker 2: guy picked him. But yeah, they didn't have him envisioning.
- 20:23Speaker 2: They didn't envision him doing this. Brent Honeywell of twenty
- 20:27Speaker 2: twenty five, Brent Honeywell doesn't have a job right now.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Brent Honeywell came on our show before twenty twenty four
- 20:33Speaker 2: and he was like, I'm.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Pitching the big leagues.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I'm a big league pitcher, and then they freaking went
- 20:38Speaker 2: out and bawled out for the Dodgers.
- 20:44Speaker 1: I think his arm will never forget. This episode is
- 20:48Speaker 1: brought to you by Square. Your favorite neighborhood spots run

- 21:47Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 21:48Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 21:51Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 21:52Speaker 3: That's what he said.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Our friends Katie Woo and Evandrelik on the scene talking
- 21:59Speaker 1: to any players about what was going on during the
- 22:03Speaker 1: eighteen inning marathon. From an amenities perspective. Amenities has been
- 22:07Speaker 1: a big topic lately for us, right the Arkers on
- 22:11Speaker 1: ac Yeah, the Dodgers are serving fruit platters. I mean
- 22:15Speaker 1: for both sides. We saw that. For Vladie Junior, it
- 22:18Speaker 1: was a great shot that was picked up by the
- 22:20Speaker 1: Fox cameras. Dodgers reliever Jack Dryer said, we had like
- 22:23Speaker 1: a whole game. After I came out, me and the
- 22:25Speaker 1: rest of the guys at the bench were trying to
- 22:26Speaker 1: figure out things to get rallies going. He said, I
- 22:30Speaker 1: had steak at some point. So for those long games,
- 22:36Speaker 1: are they checking with you? Like, give me the inside
- 22:39Speaker 1: scoop From a team perspective, AJ, I'm saying, are is
- 22:42Speaker 1: the team? Like, Hey, do you guys want anything?
- 22:44Speaker 3: Like?
- 22:44Speaker 1: How does that work? From a player perspective, you just
- 22:47Speaker 1: go in the clubhouse yourself and stuff is laid out,
- 22:49Speaker 1: like energy bars and food and whatever else, like tell
- 22:52Speaker 1: us anything you can't access.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Usually, usually the it's either the strength coach or the
- 22:57Speaker 2: trainer crats right, that comes up to he and says, hey,
- 22:59Speaker 2: do you want something? He hung, do you need anything?
- 23:01Speaker 2: I mean, teams have nutritionists now, so I'm sure there's
- 23:03Speaker 2: a nutritionists running around now that say, hey, do you
- 23:05Speaker 2: want something. Back in the day, if we went extra innings,
- 23:08Speaker 2: you know, the string coach you come up with, hey
- 23:09Speaker 2: you want a banana? You want a protein bar? And
- 23:11Speaker 2: most of the time I try not to eat because
- 23:13Speaker 2: I don't want to. I didn't want to pee. Alnzo
- 23:15Speaker 2: misstime my coffee problem. So I tried to uh not eat.
- 23:20Speaker 2: But yeah, guys, listen, if you're a pitcher and you're
- 23:23Speaker 2: a lever at a game, sometimes you go in the clubhouse.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Them dudes are in there with a full five course meal,
- 23:27Speaker 2: eating their steak and their potatoes and their vegetables, and
- 23:30Speaker 2: you're out there grinding on the fifteenth in and going, oh,
- 23:32Speaker 2: my stomach's romblin. But I don't want to eat because
- 23:34Speaker 2: if I eat, I might miss anything in the in
- 23:37Speaker 2: doing the wrong thing. So I tried not to eat
- 23:39Speaker 2: as much. But every once in a while i'd sneak
- 23:41Speaker 2: a banana or an enjury energy bar if I was
- 23:43Speaker 2: just feeling a little bit run down. But yeah, they
- 23:46Speaker 2: there's people there that are like, you want this to drink,
- 23:48Speaker 2: You want this, you want this, and heck, I'll be honest.
- 23:50Speaker 2: Sometimes you even went for a rally beer if you're
- 23:54Speaker 2: not in. If you're not in, maybe that rally beer
- 23:56Speaker 2: will get the boys and knock who knows, who knows
- 23:58Speaker 2: what happened when where Freddie hit that homer. I hated
- 24:02Speaker 2: going into the clubhouse when I was playing, Like if
- 24:05Speaker 2: I was changing my uniform because it was too sweaty
- 24:07Speaker 2: or something, I would do it in the hallway right
- 24:10Speaker 2: outside of the dugout, like going into the clubhouse and
- 24:12Speaker 2: like smelling that night's food. Like sometimes it would just
- 24:16Speaker 2: repulse me, like I was like ugh. Or it's like
- 24:19Speaker 2: seeing guys just like this on the couch, like looking
- 24:23Speaker 2: at the TV watching the game and you're like I
- 24:27Speaker 2: just got hitting a toe by it fastball, like I'm
- 24:30Speaker 2: hurting here. So anything I would eat, it would always
- 24:33Speaker 2: be on the bench. Guys would always have what were
- 24:36Speaker 2: they They would have the uh, the nut butter. They
- 24:39Speaker 2: had the packets that you would like squeeze squeeze out
- 24:44Speaker 2: the peanut butter, and then they had apple sauce that
- 24:47Speaker 2: was you know, they started bringing them out in the
- 24:49Speaker 2: little basket and stuff. By the end of my career,
- 24:51Speaker 2: it was the kind of got a little bougie, not
- 24:53Speaker 2: not fruit tray bougie, but it got a little bougie.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Yeah. They were melons, bananas, all kinds of stuff that
- 25:00Speaker 1: was coming out there on that fruit tray.
- 25:02Speaker 2: The problem with the fruit tray though, is if you
- 25:04Speaker 2: eat fruit like it gives you that rush. It's like
- 25:06Speaker 2: drinking a soft drink, right, it gives you that rush,
- 25:09Speaker 2: But then you kind of have that crash because the
- 25:11Speaker 2: sugar wears off if you're out there long enough. So
- 25:13Speaker 2: I tried to, you know, other than a banana, I
- 25:15Speaker 2: tried to stay away from the fruit pregame and you'd
- 25:16Speaker 2: eat some protein and stuff. So I'm surprised there wasn't
- 25:19Speaker 2: more protein bars eating and things like that. But hey,
- 25:22Speaker 2: they all got through it and it was you know what,
- 25:24Speaker 2: it was a cool story because people got to tell
- 25:26Speaker 2: what they were doing and this and that.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Listen.
- 25:28Speaker 2: I remember when we went in fourteen innings in Houston
- 25:30Speaker 2: in two thousand and five, Jeff Blum hit the home run.
- 25:33Speaker 2: At the time, it was the longest World Series game
- 25:35Speaker 2: in history. I'll be honest. I was sitting in the
- 25:38Speaker 2: couch with Kenny Williams drinking a beer when he hit
- 25:40Speaker 2: the home run, so because I had been double switched
- 25:42Speaker 2: out in like the tenth innings, So I mean, listen,
- 25:44Speaker 2: everyone has their own thing. We were sitting in there
- 25:46Speaker 2: having a beer, and I remember Kenny Williams said, if
- 25:48Speaker 2: we win tonight, it's over because this is our shot
- 25:50Speaker 2: in Oswall. We end up winning the game with Blum,
- 25:53Speaker 2: and then we won the next game and swept them.
- 25:54Speaker 2: So people do all their own things. I mean, that's
- 25:56Speaker 2: the game. Mark Burley came in and didn't have anything
- 25:59Speaker 2: to drink before he got to say.
- 26:04Speaker 1: For anyone listening podcast wise, there were many quotes popped
- 26:08Speaker 1: up just to cover that many quotes. Okay, all right,
- 26:13Speaker 1: next up, before we talked to Shy, we got one minute.
- 26:16Speaker 1: Stephen Strasburg is back in baseball. He is going to
- 26:21Speaker 1: be a coach at San Diego State. He is a
- 26:24Speaker 1: San Diego State alum. Tony Gwynn, the Tony Gwinn, the
- 26:28Speaker 1: late Tony Gwinn was his coach back when he was there,
- 26:32Speaker 1: but current coach is Kevin Vance and he said Strasburg's
- 26:36Speaker 1: arguably the best pitcher in college baseball history. Makes this
- 26:39Speaker 1: announcement special is how much he cares about this program,
- 26:42Speaker 1: the city and give him back to the game. He's
- 26:43Speaker 1: a proud Aztec in San Diego, San Diegan, and he's
- 26:46Speaker 1: never forgotten his roots. He's a quiet guy, but good
- 26:50Speaker 1: for him. He wants to stay in the game. It's
- 26:51Speaker 1: one of those guys where he didn't know if he
- 26:52Speaker 1: was just going to disappear forever, but he's back pretty quickly.
- 26:55Speaker 3: Aj good for him.
- 26:56Speaker 2: Bussy lives in San Diego. He's from San Diego, he
- 26:58Speaker 2: went to school. I mean, this is an easy thing
- 27:01Speaker 2: for him. I'm sure they probably don't have to pay
- 27:02Speaker 2: him a whole lot of money. I think he's still
- 27:04Speaker 2: getting paid from the National So I just feel like
- 27:07Speaker 2: this is a this is an easy transition. He wants
- 27:09Speaker 2: to help some kids, and good for you, Steven Listen,
- 27:13Speaker 2: Steven Strassburg, whatever you want to say about him. The
- 27:15Speaker 2: times I've been around him, he's been really quiet, but
- 27:17Speaker 2: he's knowledgeable and he's really nice when you get to
- 27:19Speaker 2: talk to him. So good for you. Maybe he can
- 27:21Speaker 2: help some kids become the next Steven Strasburg.
- 27:24Speaker 1: Here he is, Shy David sports Net Baseball Comments joining
- 27:27Speaker 1: us right now. Good morning to you, Shy, and I'm
- 27:30Speaker 1: returning the favorite. I think I'm doing Sportsnet Radio on
- 27:33Speaker 1: tomorrow morning. I think it is a seven or eight
- 27:35Speaker 1: am or something like that. But good to see you.
- 27:37Speaker 1: It looks like a bright sunny day. So first off,
- 27:40Speaker 1: just aftermath and how everything went for you, and also
- 27:43Speaker 1: what you caught postgame from a player perspective in terms
- 27:47Speaker 1: of some crazy things that you heard or saw.
- 27:51Speaker 5: I think mostly the impression has everyone was just exhausted, right,
- 27:56Speaker 5: And that was the exactly word. I'm like, I said
- 27:58Speaker 5: to Dalton Barsha, I'm like, describe that experience.
- 28:01Speaker 3: He's just like exhausting. And that was it.
- 28:04Speaker 5: And I just think there are a lot of guys
- 28:05Speaker 5: who were fried physically for sure, but mentally perhaps even
- 28:10Speaker 5: more so. It was such an intense game, with so
- 28:12Speaker 5: many ups and downs, twists and turns, and there are
- 28:16Speaker 5: the obvious laments, the missed opportunities, the chances with scoring positions,
- 28:21Speaker 5: a couple of mistakes that they made. There is obviously
- 28:24Speaker 5: any time you lose a game, but especially a game
- 28:26Speaker 5: like that. I mean there's just so much. I mean
- 28:28Speaker 5: there's literally two games in one there and enough drama
- 28:32Speaker 5: for four or five at least.
- 28:33Speaker 3: So that was the general vibe.
- 28:36Speaker 5: But then you know, there was also the classic twenty
- 28:39Speaker 5: twenty five Blue Jays.
- 28:41Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, we'll back tomorrow, no sweat, this is
- 28:43Speaker 3: what we do.
- 28:44Speaker 5: And so that was that was pretty evident in a
- 28:47Speaker 5: lot of the conversations as well.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Hey Shy, as much as we want to talk about
- 28:52Speaker 2: how tired the players are, how tired are you and
- 28:54Speaker 2: what did you do for eighteen X, they're talking about
- 28:55Speaker 2: fruit platters, they're talking about eating steaks, they're talking about
- 28:58Speaker 2: this and that. What did the reporters do? You guys
- 29:01Speaker 2: are sitting up there grinding a way. How many different
- 29:03Speaker 2: stories did you write on your computer? And how many
- 29:06Speaker 2: different plots did you have before the end came?
- 29:11Speaker 5: Well, the first one that I submitted is not the
- 29:14Speaker 5: is very different from the second version that I submitted.
- 29:16Speaker 5: And initially I had this really great story on Max
- 29:20Speaker 5: Sureser that I hope to find another way to use
- 29:25Speaker 5: down the road. But you know, Max Suser ended up
- 29:27Speaker 5: becoming you know, he was started out as one of
- 29:30Speaker 5: the main characters and ended up becoming you know, a
- 29:32Speaker 5: bit player in the way that that game turned out
- 29:34Speaker 5: crazy it is it is to say those games are
- 29:37Speaker 5: super fun in a sense because it's changing so much constantly,
- 29:43Speaker 5: and then what is important early becomes secondary later. But
- 29:48Speaker 5: it as it went along, it just starts becoming, Okay,
- 29:52Speaker 5: I've got to have something ready to go here because
- 29:55Speaker 5: it's like three in the morning or four in the morning,
- 29:57Speaker 5: whatever it was back home when people are going to
- 30:00Speaker 5: editing this or reading this, so I better better just
- 30:02Speaker 5: have something ready to go. And then and then the
- 30:06Speaker 5: second version that I came after after talking to guys
- 30:08Speaker 5: in the clubhouse. Is quite different and I hope a
- 30:12Speaker 5: little bit better than the first version I submitted.

- 31:27Speaker 3: What was it?
- 31:28Speaker 2: Kind of like, you know what, you know, we definitely
- 31:31Speaker 2: lost Springer for the series.
- 31:34Speaker 5: I don't know that anybody was willing to go let
- 31:37Speaker 5: themselves think, Okay, we've lost Springer for the series. But
- 31:41Speaker 5: obvious concern and you know, John Schneider was trying to
- 31:47Speaker 5: you know, be had glass half full even though it's like, yeah,
- 31:50Speaker 5: this sucks and yea, how much she's meant to our team.
- 31:53Speaker 3: There was just a lot of stuff to be careful with.
- 31:56Speaker 5: So I think they want to make sure what the
- 31:58Speaker 5: MRI says, see how he feels. I mean, Springer, as
- 32:03Speaker 5: you guys know, just incredibly tough. He plays through so much.
- 32:07Speaker 5: It's tough to play through and oblique if that's what
- 32:11Speaker 5: it is, and that's that's the guess based on you
- 32:15Speaker 5: know what limited stuff we heard. If you don't have
- 32:18Speaker 5: your oblique, you can't swing the way that you need
- 32:20Speaker 5: to swing. And he's already got his knee and other
- 32:23Speaker 5: ailments that he's at the risk the stuff that he's
- 32:26Speaker 5: playing through. So that would be a devastating blow for
- 32:30Speaker 5: the Blue Jays, but it does give them maybe a
- 32:33Speaker 5: little bit of flexibility in terms of, well, now you
- 32:36Speaker 5: can d h Bobachett and you know, have a cleaner
- 32:41Speaker 5: defensive alignment out on out on the field, so that
- 32:45Speaker 5: you know if the if it ends up being that
- 32:47Speaker 5: he can't play tonight or has to come out of
- 32:49Speaker 5: the series. That's the the very very dull silver lining
- 32:54Speaker 5: that there would be to that. But I think that
- 32:57Speaker 5: the Blue Jays weren't ready to go there just yet,
- 33:00Speaker 5: and a lot of hope and a lot of optimism
- 33:02Speaker 5: that Springer's going to be okay, if not for this game,
- 33:06Speaker 5: then for later in the series.
- 33:09Speaker 2: All Right, Yeah, that sucks that Springer could miss some
- 33:12Speaker 2: time at all because he's one of their big guys
- 33:14Speaker 2: as we all know. So what about Beaber? What can
- 33:17Speaker 2: Baber give you tonight? Because he did warm up last night.
- 33:19Speaker 2: They showed him on the mound throwing kind of getting
- 33:21Speaker 2: ready to go. So what can Shane Bieber give the
- 33:24Speaker 2: Blue Jays tonight? And will him warming up effect, because
- 33:26Speaker 2: I think it will at least a little bit affect
- 33:28Speaker 2: him in tonight's Game four.
- 33:31Speaker 3: Maybe maybe it will affect him.
- 33:33Speaker 5: But I think one of the things that was working
- 33:36Speaker 5: in their favor a little bit is that, you know,
- 33:38Speaker 5: that flip in the rotation with he he was three
- 33:44Speaker 5: and seven against the Mariners and now he's four in
- 33:46Speaker 5: this series. There was a little bit of extra time,
- 33:48Speaker 5: a little bit of extra rest, and so I don't
- 33:51Speaker 5: think he got super hot. It was just loosening up
- 33:55Speaker 5: to be ready just in case there was a nineteen
- 34:00Speaker 5: for a twentieth or whatever. But we'll ultimately we'll see, right,
- 34:06Speaker 5: the extra rest was important. The Blue Jays felt that
- 34:09Speaker 5: that was something that would be good for him, especially
- 34:12Speaker 5: considering how much he's already put on his arm coming
- 34:15Speaker 5: back from the Tommy John surgery and everything. And ultimately
- 34:19Speaker 5: the Blue Jays need innings from him just as much
- 34:22Speaker 5: as the Dodgers need innings from Otani tonight, right Like,
- 34:25Speaker 5: I mean, they literally used everyone in their bullpen. Eric
- 34:28Speaker 5: Lauer made would have been one of their longest outings
- 34:32Speaker 5: of all postseason out of the bullpen and relief, so
- 34:34Speaker 5: you figure he's down, you know, they got multiple innings
- 34:37Speaker 5: from other guys, so a lot of extension last night,
- 34:41Speaker 5: but everybody will find a way to reset as much
- 34:44Speaker 5: as possible. But yeah, the Blue Ja's definitely be counting
- 34:47Speaker 5: on a lot from Beeber and I think if they
- 34:50Speaker 5: see his command with the fastball, then they figure everything
- 34:53Speaker 5: else is going to fall into place.
- 34:55Speaker 3: That's usually the case with.
- 34:57Speaker 5: Him, but it's coming gone throughout the postseason and he's
- 35:01Speaker 5: found ways to get through some outings, but they need
- 35:05Speaker 5: they need him to do a little bit more than
- 35:06Speaker 5: just get through and on and they need I would say,
- 35:09Speaker 5: at least five from him, uh to to have a
- 35:11Speaker 5: good shot at winning this one tonight.
- 35:13Speaker 2: One of the guys that didn't pitch much with Chris Bassett,
- 35:17Speaker 2: any idea if they're okay with him back to back?
- 35:20Speaker 2: I mean, I know that's crazy to say out of
- 35:23Speaker 2: a normal bullpen, but you're talking about a starter who
- 35:26Speaker 2: had an injury at the end of the season. So
- 35:28Speaker 2: are they okay with a back to back Because that's
- 35:30Speaker 2: the case, it makes their bullpen even shorter if they're
- 35:34Speaker 2: not okay with it.
- 35:36Speaker 5: Yeah, I think they will be, and I'll I know
- 35:39Speaker 5: that Chris Bassett will be and anytime I ask him
- 35:43Speaker 5: anything to do with usage, He's like, I can do
- 35:46Speaker 5: anything and everything that they want, as many things as
- 35:49Speaker 5: they want.
- 35:49Speaker 3: I'm ready.
- 35:51Speaker 5: And you know, Chris is one of the one of
- 35:54Speaker 5: the ultimate competitors, no fear, finds, finds ways to work
- 35:59Speaker 5: with whatever he's got on a given day. And you know,
- 36:02Speaker 5: even though he did finish the season on the injured
- 36:04Speaker 5: list with that back issue, you know, he was of
- 36:08Speaker 5: the mind that he could have pitched if needed, and
- 36:11Speaker 5: he'd pitched through that for a few starts there towards
- 36:14Speaker 5: the end of the season, but they decided that since
- 36:18Speaker 5: there was no need and they had some flexibility, that
- 36:21Speaker 5: was better to just let him get some rest and
- 36:23Speaker 5: see if he can fully reset himself for the postseason,
- 36:25Speaker 5: which he did. So I would expect that Chris Bassett
- 36:28Speaker 5: would be available. Now how many expecting multiple innings might
- 36:32Speaker 5: be too much, but I will say this, you know,
- 36:35Speaker 5: the couple of times we've seen Chris Bassett and leverage
- 36:38Speaker 5: so far in this postseason, I really liked what I've seen.
- 36:41Speaker 5: And he's obviously a good starter, and you're never going
- 36:44Speaker 5: to walk away from a starter, but he'd be pretty
- 36:48Speaker 5: interesting working out of the bullpen and be getting some
- 36:54Speaker 5: creative usage there, just because I think his stuff plays
- 36:57Speaker 5: differently and he attacks a little bit differently, and it's
- 37:00Speaker 5: a really intriguing look.
- 37:03Speaker 2: Carlos Feeble's the third base coach. Did you see him
- 37:07Speaker 2: in the clubhouse afterwards? Did he feel like or did
- 37:10Speaker 2: you hear anybody say like, hey, it's not a big deal,
- 37:13Speaker 2: because there was a couple sens there that, especially the
- 37:17Speaker 2: one with David Schneider with Ladd on deck, not saying
- 37:20Speaker 2: they would't have walked him, but just saying like, was
- 37:24Speaker 2: there any kind of conversation or did you see any
- 37:27Speaker 2: body language that says like, ah, he was pretty bumped.
- 37:31Speaker 5: I did not see Carlos after the game, but you
- 37:35Speaker 5: know I was thinking through that that play specifically a
- 37:38Speaker 5: few times. And you know, the Blue Jays obviously know
- 37:43Speaker 5: ti Oscar Hernandez really well, having had him on the club,
- 37:48Speaker 5: knows him well from being with the Red Sox all
- 37:50Speaker 5: those years before he joined the Jays, so there's a
- 37:53Speaker 5: lot of familiarity there. Like, you know, Hernandez played that perfectly.
- 37:57Speaker 5: It's a perfect relay to Edmund. Edmund's perfect relay home
- 38:01Speaker 5: like the Dodgers had to be on the money with that,
- 38:04Speaker 5: and I think in that spot, you're thinking that lot
- 38:07Speaker 5: could get walked or see nothing to hit, and then
- 38:11Speaker 5: it's Isaiah kiner Faluffa behind them afterwards, and you're like,
- 38:14Speaker 5: that might be the shot, and let's force the Dodgers
- 38:18Speaker 5: to make this play. And again you know Tioscar Andnendez
- 38:23Speaker 5: has an amazing arm, but like sometimes it's not always accurate,
- 38:26Speaker 5: which we've seen also in the in the series. So
- 38:30Speaker 5: I think that ultimately they the choice there was let's
- 38:34Speaker 5: force the Dodgers to make the play.
- 38:35Speaker 3: The Dodgers made the play, and the Blue just have
- 38:38Speaker 3: to live with it.
- 38:39Speaker 5: I didn't hate it in real time, you know, even
- 38:42Speaker 5: though Guerrero is on deck, you know the Dodgers could
- 38:46Speaker 5: have avoided them, and then where are you at? And
- 38:49Speaker 5: then maybe you you're regretting not forcing the Dodgers to
- 38:54Speaker 5: be perfect in their execution. So I think there were
- 38:58Speaker 5: a lot of different laments, but I think more of
- 39:00Speaker 5: the laments that I was hearing the clubhous was about
- 39:02Speaker 5: different opportunities a runners in the scoring position where you
- 39:05Speaker 5: know guys couldn't couldn't find the hit, as opposed to
- 39:08Speaker 5: that one specifically.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Listen if Carlos Fables ever gets down, Shy, just give
- 39:13Speaker 2: him some cookies. Okay. I played. I played against him
- 39:16Speaker 2: in the Gulf Coast League. We called him Cookie Monster
- 39:18Speaker 2: because he just ate cookies. Every time I see him,
- 39:20Speaker 2: I'm like cookie Monster and he starts laughing. So just
- 39:23Speaker 2: if he ever gets down, just walk up to him
- 39:24Speaker 2: and give him some cookies. Okay, he'll eat the whole
- 39:26Speaker 2: box of them, all right, especially with this with this
- 39:29Speaker 2: old gray beard. Okay, you know we're all getting there, Shy,
- 39:32Speaker 2: So I get it. Here's my thing. I had no
- 39:35Speaker 2: problem with that, sind because of everything you just said. Listen,
- 39:38Speaker 2: Carlos had thought about this, and he, like you said,
- 39:41Speaker 2: it took a perfect relay. Plus they were going off
- 39:42Speaker 2: to throw that taoscar made earlier in the game where
- 39:45Speaker 2: he pulled it to the to the left of home plate,
- 39:48Speaker 2: and so he's thinking, if he just misses the cutoff
- 39:50Speaker 2: man by a step, then he's safe at home. Unfortunately
- 39:53Speaker 2: for the Blue Jays fans, he made a perfect relay.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Edmund made a perfect relay. It was like Marger's throw,
- 39:58Speaker 2: Barker's throw earlier in the game whe he threw out
- 40:00Speaker 2: Freddy at home. It was just perfectly executed. I mean,
- 40:03Speaker 2: it was part of the game. I had no problem
- 40:05Speaker 2: with that saying because like you said, guess what, I
- 40:06Speaker 2: Vladimir Guerrero ain't getting a hit in that situation. They're
- 40:09Speaker 2: going like this and then it's gonna be on IKF.
- 40:11Speaker 2: So I have no problem with that. Push the envelope.
- 40:13Speaker 2: It didn't look like they were gonna score any other way.
- 40:15Speaker 2: Try to get that running. Is that run scores, they
- 40:17Speaker 2: probably win the game. So Carlos, you're fine for me.
- 40:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I agree, And I'm not worried about Carlos being
- 40:26Speaker 5: being down at all. That guy would if you ever
- 40:28Speaker 5: see him not smiling then, I mean I've never seen it.
- 40:32Speaker 3: So a lot of energy, a lot of positivity for him.
- 40:35Speaker 5: And you know, I mean sometimes baseball it just happens, right,
- 40:38Speaker 5: I like like you said, And great teams make me
- 40:42Speaker 5: play sometimes and sometimes you got to force the into them,
- 40:45Speaker 5: and you know, if it goes the other way a
- 40:47Speaker 5: little bit. We're talking about what a great send that
- 40:49Speaker 5: was and not having this conversation, but there's so many
- 40:53Speaker 5: other opportunities. To me, that's not the most glaring mischance, right.
- 40:59Speaker 5: You know, you go back to the weird play in
- 41:02Speaker 5: the second inning with you know, when Varshow thought it
- 41:05Speaker 5: was ball form, Bobaschet ends up getting picked off at
- 41:07Speaker 5: second base. There were other you know, the Blueje's loss,
- 41:11Speaker 5: probably at least a run that inning, maybe more. They
- 41:13Speaker 5: had other opportunities to score in I don't know, like
- 41:16Speaker 5: almost every inning. I can't remember which number is, definitely
- 41:19Speaker 5: the tenth, the twelfth, the eighteenth. There were other opportunities.
- 41:23Speaker 5: So it was not for want of other chances that
- 41:28Speaker 5: you know, they were in the situation.
- 41:30Speaker 3: And I know John Schneider has.
- 41:33Speaker 5: Been getting a lot of criticism for emptying the bench,
- 41:36Speaker 5: and you know, the way the lineup ended up being
- 41:38Speaker 5: the way they finished the game, but he tried to
- 41:41Speaker 5: win at different points and it just didn't work out.
- 41:45Speaker 5: And you could never know when you're taking your shot
- 41:48Speaker 5: that oh yeah, you're going to be playing a second
- 41:50Speaker 5: game afterwards. So I didn't mind, you know, when Straw
- 41:55Speaker 5: pinch ran for Barger, because you're trying to get a
- 41:57Speaker 5: little bit benefit on the bases there maybe you can
- 41:59Speaker 5: score another run, or when Heinemann came in for Kirk
- 42:03Speaker 5: or some of the other moves that really depleted the
- 42:06Speaker 5: batting order. But you're playing for that little edge to
- 42:10Speaker 5: score a run. You're going for it, and sometimes you
- 42:13Speaker 5: have to give your players a shot in a moment
- 42:16Speaker 5: and it leaves you weaker afterwards, but you you probably
- 42:19Speaker 5: feel what would feel worse if you didn't take that
- 42:21Speaker 5: shot in the moment and didn't have that opportunity. So,
- 42:25Speaker 5: if all, there are so many things that you can debate,
- 42:28Speaker 5: I'm not sure that send would be high on my list.
- 42:31Speaker 1: And the Dodgers are really good, they're favored. If you're
- 42:35Speaker 1: in Toronto, you're gonna have to do some things to
- 42:39Speaker 1: take risks. You know that if they work out, we go,
- 42:44Speaker 1: Oh remember when they pinched ran so and so and
- 42:47Speaker 1: then he scored the winning run by this much? So
- 42:50Speaker 1: I get it. I'm totally.
- 42:51Speaker 2: There were so many things in this game that happened
- 42:53Speaker 2: that you forget, like the boba shit, Boba shit. I
- 42:56Speaker 2: mean that would if they would have lost in nine
- 42:58Speaker 2: innings by a run, that would everyone would been like,
- 43:00Speaker 2: what the heck is he doing? Right? So because of
- 43:03Speaker 2: what eighteen people kind of forget about that, and they
- 43:05Speaker 2: they forget about Vlad scoring from first on a ball
- 43:08Speaker 2: you know doubt barely got to the right field. Or
- 43:10Speaker 2: down the right field are There's so many things that
- 43:12Speaker 2: happened in this game. You know, Freddie getting thrown out
- 43:14Speaker 2: of the plate, throwing, Kirk throwing out show Hey trying
- 43:17Speaker 2: to steal. Like, because this game went so long, there
- 43:19Speaker 2: were so many things you just kind of forget about.
- 43:21Speaker 2: You almost have to rewatch it to thake like gosh,
- 43:23Speaker 2: like that, Oh I forgot that happened because it was
- 43:25Speaker 2: two days ago.
- 43:27Speaker 5: Yeah, like the Guerrero throw to third to get Hernandez too,
- 43:30Speaker 5: to nip another inning in the bud there. I think
- 43:33Speaker 5: there there's so many Yeah, Like like you guys said
- 43:36Speaker 5: that that game was I mean again, literally two games
- 43:40Speaker 5: and enough to fill four. But you know the other
- 43:44Speaker 5: thing that about the Blue Jays is that everything that
- 43:46Speaker 5: they did is in line with the way they played
- 43:49Speaker 5: throughout the regular season.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Right.
- 43:51Speaker 5: It's not like they suddenly went off script and you
- 43:55Speaker 5: know they're just pulling things out of their butt to
- 43:57Speaker 5: try and make things happen. That is that is the
- 44:01Speaker 5: way they've played all season. They've switched up in those
- 44:03Speaker 5: in those moments, they've tried to seize different opportunities and
- 44:06Speaker 5: utilize specific skill sets and specific moments. It gets magnified
- 44:12Speaker 5: obviously when it doesn't work out and a game gets
- 44:14Speaker 5: extended the way that it did, and you know, full credit,
- 44:17Speaker 5: you know, and we haven't even mentioned Eric Lowry yet
- 44:20Speaker 5: and the job that he did, but you know, like
- 44:22Speaker 5: the bullpen's bullpen's manch to just keep that one going.
- 44:26Speaker 5: But that the Blue Jay did not behave out a character.
- 44:30Speaker 5: They played their their game. The Dodgers just outlasted.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Them, right, that's the brand of Blue Jays baseball. Shy's
- 44:37Speaker 1: watching every pitch all year, so he knows. You can
- 44:39Speaker 1: follow him at Shy Davd Sahi Davd Shy. Great to
- 44:43Speaker 1: see you as always, really appreciated. Thanks for hopping on.
- 44:46Speaker 1: I know it was a long one, but almost there
- 44:48Speaker 1: a few days left potentially to go and hear in
- 44:50Speaker 1: the World Series in the season and then some rest.
- 44:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 44:54Speaker 5: All good guys, especially when it's a it's a game
- 44:56Speaker 5: that's going to be you know, historic like that, so
- 45:00Speaker 5: I always a privileged to be at those games.
- 45:03Speaker 3: So I good seeing you guys. Have a good one.
- 45:06Speaker 1: AFT is presented by Fox One. That's where you can
- 45:10Speaker 1: watch the rest of the World Series. Doesn't matter how
- 45:13Speaker 1: long it takes, the app can handle it for you
- 45:16Speaker 1: foul territory. Obviously, it's been presented by Fox one the
- 45:19Speaker 1: entire postseason that includes Aja's eighteen inning marathon. So now
- 45:24Speaker 1: we've had two eighteen inning marathons. But you can start
- 45:27Speaker 1: your free trial today, oh fifteen.
- 45:33Speaker 2: But by the way, thank god for Fox one so
- 45:35Speaker 2: I could watch the game last night, because that's the
- 45:37Speaker 2: only thing that kept me awake. I mean, I was like,
- 45:39Speaker 2: I was, I was sitting here from the ninth inning
- 45:42Speaker 2: in this exact spot, and I was slowly like this
- 45:45Speaker 2: at about two am. You know, Fox one kept me
- 45:47Speaker 2: awake and this and now. But I was like, man,
- 45:50Speaker 2: we really are we really doing a post game at
- 45:52Speaker 2: three in the morning. And Mark of course was like yeah,
- 45:56Speaker 2: Max one, and thank you Fox one for keeping me awake.
- 46:00Speaker 2: How great this Fox won seven day free trial. That
- 46:03Speaker 2: game was so long you use it all up in
- 46:04Speaker 2: one day.
- 46:07Speaker 1: True, it's good. Kratz was waiting on that one since
- 46:10Speaker 1: last night. That's good. I like that. There he is,
- 46:14Speaker 1: thank you. Hey, we can put up this tweet. This
- 46:17Speaker 1: was before Game three. Ernie Clement, who is great with
- 46:21Speaker 1: the media, was asked about George Springer getting booed in
- 46:25Speaker 1: La obviously, he said quote when he gets booed, I
- 46:29Speaker 1: usually bow him as well. He thinks it actually inspires George.
- 46:34Speaker 1: He's used to it. It's been a long time, aj.
- 46:37Speaker 1: I mean the Astros trash Can scandal was out in
- 46:41Speaker 1: twenty nineteen. It's twenty twenty five, and the punishment really
- 46:46Speaker 1: for those players was hey, for the rest of your career.
- 46:50Speaker 1: If you're tied to that team, fans are gonna give
- 46:52Speaker 1: it to you more than they usually would. It is
- 46:54Speaker 1: what it is.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Listen, as somebody that thrived off booing, I wanted my team.
- 47:00Speaker 2: It's would boom me at times just to get me going,
- 47:02Speaker 2: So I get it. George Bringer lives thrives off this.
- 47:05Speaker 2: There are certain guys I think Bregman a little bit
- 47:07Speaker 2: thrives off this. Al Tuova I think took it a
- 47:09Speaker 2: little more personal. But listen, I'm gonna tell you what
- 47:12Speaker 2: people once told me. They ain't booing you, They ain't
- 47:14Speaker 2: booing nobody's okay, And they usually blew you because you
- 47:17Speaker 2: broke their heart. So if they're booing, you usually did
- 47:21Speaker 2: something to break their heart. So go get them, George,
- 47:24Speaker 2: if you're able, if you're healthy. I got booed one
- 47:26Speaker 2: time at a visiting park. It's because I got in
- 47:29Speaker 2: Joey Vado's face, so they booed me for like three
- 47:32Speaker 2: at bats. That was it.
- 47:36Speaker 1: So good, so good, Hey, we're back. We didn't get
- 47:39Speaker 1: to this yesterday because I mean it was out kind of,
- 47:43Speaker 1: but we didn't get the comments afterward, did you guys?
- 47:45Speaker 1: See how Dave Roberts joked about the team going through
- 47:50Speaker 1: delays and it wasn't the team, the players. They have
- 47:54Speaker 1: four planes. Okay, the players left the night before, the
- 47:58Speaker 1: night after the game, and then the coaches and a
- 48:01Speaker 1: lot of other staff left in the morning on a plane,
- 48:04Speaker 1: and they had a ton of delays and all of that.
- 48:06Speaker 1: And Doc also said, I mean, they're traveling four hundred people,
- 48:09Speaker 1: so it's going to take more time. But he was like, oh,
- 48:12Speaker 1: you know, maybe there was some intent on why it
- 48:14Speaker 1: took so long, and then people freaked out and then
- 48:17Speaker 1: he had to clarify, like, I am sure the Prime
- 48:20Speaker 1: Minister is not taking time to figure out how to
- 48:22Speaker 1: delay us. And it actually sounds even funnier when you
- 48:25Speaker 1: think about it, like, ooh, let's delay the coaches. It's
- 48:28Speaker 1: not even the players. The players traveled smoothly over but
- 48:31Speaker 1: just the fact that he even had to clarify that.
- 48:33Speaker 1: I'm like, let's not be so sensitive, let's relax.
- 48:38Speaker 2: Well, yeah, listen, I love this. So the Dodgers do this.
- 48:43Speaker 2: I love that they fly separate. They let the players
- 48:45Speaker 2: be the players. The coaches have a different plane, and
- 48:48Speaker 2: the families have different We did this in two thousand
- 48:50Speaker 2: and five. The players flew the coaches. Now we only
- 48:52Speaker 2: had one plane for players and coaches, but the traveling
- 48:54Speaker 2: party was way smaller. And then our families flew separate
- 48:58Speaker 2: on a different plane, and on the way home, they
- 49:00Speaker 2: literally flew back to back like this. One of us
- 49:02Speaker 2: landed and then the next one landed. So I love this.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Jack Harrison is here, he's awake, looking like he's fresh.
- 49:11Speaker 1: I had a nice shower after staying late at the ballpark.
- 49:15Speaker 1: Jacket to see you, and we really appreciate you hopping on.
- 49:17Speaker 1: I mean, we're all over this crazy World series. We'll
- 49:21Speaker 1: go backwards as we go, but I do want to
- 49:23Speaker 1: try and spin it forward. First, expectations on pitcher usage
- 49:29Speaker 1: heading into Game four, and included in that your thoughts
- 49:32Speaker 1: on how Shoheo Tani could look after a long night.
- 49:36Speaker 1: I know he's super human. But what have you seen?
- 49:40Speaker 7: Yeah, with Otani, you know it's gonna be interesting. You know,
- 49:44Speaker 7: you saw him cramping last night at one point. Obviously
- 49:46Speaker 7: he's on the bases nine times. He did a lot
- 49:49Speaker 7: of running on the bases. He tried to steal a base.
- 49:51Speaker 7: He was joking last night, like I just want to
- 49:53Speaker 7: get as much sleep as possible, So we'll see. You know,
- 49:57Speaker 7: it seems like every time this guy gets challenged with
- 49:59Speaker 7: some thing, especially physically, he goes beyond whatever the expectation is.
- 50:05Speaker 7: But the Dodgers are going to need some length out
- 50:06Speaker 7: of him because when you look at the bullpen, you
- 50:09Speaker 7: know they're not totally wrecked after last night. You had
- 50:12Speaker 7: guys like Anthony Bonda and Jack Dryer, and you know
- 50:17Speaker 7: that didn't have to pitch quite as much Blake Trinan
- 50:21Speaker 7: in that group. I think Roki Sasaki will be kind
- 50:23Speaker 7: of the big question. He goes one to two thirds
- 50:26Speaker 7: last night, is he going to be available? But I think,
- 50:29Speaker 7: you know, the Dodgers are going to have a lot
- 50:30Speaker 7: of guys at their disposal. I'm I'm sure the only
- 50:33Speaker 7: guy who will be a for sure down as Will
- 50:35Speaker 7: Clin probably needs a couple of days after last night?
- 50:39Speaker 2: How great was Will Clin's performance last night? And if
- 50:41Speaker 2: they now they have to go on and win the series. Obviously,
- 50:44Speaker 2: it's like Nathan Valdi in twenty eighteen with the Red Sox,
- 50:47Speaker 2: right when he threw all those innings and then the
- 50:49Speaker 2: Red Sox they lost the game and went on to
- 50:51Speaker 2: win the series, and everyone said that was the moment.
- 50:53Speaker 2: But if the Dodger's going and win the series, where
- 50:55Speaker 2: will Will Clein be remembered and the lore of Dodger
- 50:59Speaker 2: World Series game? Kirk Gibson, Yes.
- 51:03Speaker 7: Uh, he's he's gonna be up there. Uh to me, like,
- 51:08Speaker 7: you know, especially the way that game was playing out
- 51:10Speaker 7: those last couple innings.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Uh.
- 51:12Speaker 7: Dave Roberts goes on the broadcast and says he's gonna
- 51:14Speaker 7: put a position player in the game. I mean, you
- 51:16Speaker 7: think about how different this series would look if Will Klein,
- 51:20Speaker 7: of all people, this guy who you know has been
- 51:22Speaker 7: with three organizations this year, who was one of you know,
- 51:26Speaker 7: in a Dodger season, they have dozens of guys that
- 51:30Speaker 7: will come through, especially on the pitching staff, to phil
- 51:32Speaker 7: innings here or there, and you just never expect one
- 51:35Speaker 7: of them to have a moment like this, even he
- 51:37Speaker 7: was joking, you know, you you could you can never
- 51:39Speaker 7: anticipate something like this happening, even though he was at
- 51:42Speaker 7: stay hot camp and trying to keep himself prepared and whatnot.
- 51:47Speaker 7: And for him to go, you know, that fourth inning
- 51:49Speaker 7: and to prevent a position player from having to come
- 51:52Speaker 7: into the game, it just changes the whole complexion of
- 51:54Speaker 7: this series. I mean, think about how how different things
- 51:57Speaker 7: would feel on the Dodger side if not only they lose,
- 52:00Speaker 7: but they lose because they literally ran out of pitching
- 52:03Speaker 7: and had to put Miguel Rojas or something like that
- 52:05Speaker 7: on the mound. So I think in terms of guys
- 52:09Speaker 7: going from people that I'm sure eighty percent of the
- 52:12Speaker 7: fans in that ballpark didn't know to becoming you know,
- 52:16Speaker 7: the guy that everyone's mobbing around after a walk off.
- 52:20Speaker 7: It's one of the more just kind of remarkable immediate
- 52:24Speaker 7: star turns you could imagine from somebody that again just
- 52:28Speaker 7: was never supposed to be this big of a part
- 52:31Speaker 7: of the plan. But you know, like he said last night,
- 52:34Speaker 7: no one was going to care if his legs were
- 52:36Speaker 7: tired or if his arm was tired. He was still
- 52:39Speaker 7: throwing ninety seven right through the end. So just one
- 52:42Speaker 7: of the more heroic things you're going to see in October.
- 52:45Speaker 2: You were there when he talked after the game.
- 52:47Speaker 7: Right, Yeah, no, And it was funny. I mean, he
- 52:50Speaker 7: was laughing at every question. I think just the surrealness
- 52:54Speaker 7: of it as he was trying to like comprehend and
- 52:57Speaker 7: digest what he had just gone through was really interesting.
- 53:01Speaker 7: And again like this is a guy who you know,
- 53:04Speaker 7: I was trying to remember if we even had like
- 53:06Speaker 7: an official media scrum with him at any point this year.
- 53:08Speaker 7: I'm pretty sure we didn't, just because again, when he pitched,
- 53:12Speaker 7: even in the regular season, when he was pitching, it
- 53:14Speaker 7: was low leverage, it was eating innings. It was hey,
- 53:17Speaker 7: come up, because we have a couple guys in the
- 53:21Speaker 7: bullpen that are going to need a few days and
- 53:23Speaker 7: we need a little extra depth.
- 53:25Speaker 3: You know.
- 53:25Speaker 7: He got sent down like a couple of days before,
- 53:28Speaker 7: I think, like on the very the second to last
- 53:31Speaker 7: day of the regular season or something like that, after
- 53:33Speaker 7: actually being part of the division clinch clubhouse celebration, and
- 53:37Speaker 7: then again was in Arizona for the last couple of weeks,
- 53:39Speaker 7: and the surrealness of that to him kind of watching
- 53:45Speaker 7: him and listening to him try to go through this again.
- 53:48Speaker 7: This moment that he was like you could never expect
- 53:50Speaker 7: was one of the cooler kind of postgame interactions you're
- 53:54Speaker 7: going to see in this kind of setting.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Being a second thought player in a clubhouse by because
- 54:01Speaker 2: you just answered it without me even saying anything. You
- 54:05Speaker 2: didn't talk to him before this, You had never I mean, yeah,
- 54:08Speaker 2: you probably knew who Will Klein was. Oh, it's cool.
- 54:11Speaker 2: You know he's on the roster. I get it because
- 54:13Speaker 2: Vessi is not there. Does it make you look around
- 54:16Speaker 2: the clubhouse now and go, wait a minute, I get it,
- 54:20Speaker 2: Freddy won the game showhy did historic things. But does
- 54:24Speaker 2: it make you look around the clubhouse for both teams
- 54:28Speaker 2: and go, what am I missing? Who?
- 54:31Speaker 3: I know?
- 54:31Speaker 2: I can't track all twenty six guys, but it takes
- 54:34Speaker 2: twenty six guys to win these games. But you write
- 54:38Speaker 2: your big articles about the superstars normally.
- 54:41Speaker 7: Right, yeah, no, And that's you know, I think, and
- 54:45Speaker 7: especially with the Dodgers and the pitching because the last
- 54:48Speaker 7: couple of years they've had to use so many different pitchers.
- 54:52Speaker 7: And you know, the part, like I was thinking about
- 54:54Speaker 7: last night, is when you're in that space like it's
- 54:57Speaker 7: got to be difficult or just you know, different for
- 55:01Speaker 7: the guys that are coming through on that team over
- 55:04Speaker 7: the course of the season, shuffling back and forth from
- 55:06Speaker 7: the miners. You know you, I'm sure there's part of
- 55:10Speaker 7: you that feels like, you know you're on the team,
- 55:13Speaker 7: but you're kind of serving this other kind of role.
- 55:16Speaker 7: And to have a guy like that, who, again nobody
- 55:20Speaker 7: would have been thinking about before last night, not only
- 55:23Speaker 7: go and pitch well in that spot last night, but
- 55:26Speaker 7: to provide such a gutsy effort to throw seventy two pitches,
- 55:30Speaker 7: to keep telling Dave Roberts, no, I'm good, No, I'm good,
- 55:33Speaker 7: don't come get me. That is a that's a cool thing,
- 55:36Speaker 7: and I think it reflects on again, one of the
- 55:39Speaker 7: things that Dodgers do well is even with these guys
- 55:41Speaker 7: that are way down the depth chart, they do spend
- 55:44Speaker 7: time with them. They do help them improve. One thing
- 55:46Speaker 7: Will Klein struggled with this year because he's always had
- 55:48Speaker 7: a good fastball, that was the word when they traded
- 55:51Speaker 7: for him from the Mariners, but just the command would
- 55:53Speaker 7: be really wild. And for him to go through four
- 55:55Speaker 7: innings last night, and I think only have what the
- 55:58Speaker 7: two walks at the very end was really impressive. I
- 56:03Speaker 7: think it speaks a lot to just his commitment and
- 56:06Speaker 7: ability to be ready for that moment. And then also,
- 56:09Speaker 7: you know, the culture that the Dodgers have were even
- 56:12Speaker 7: a guy who was probably number fifteen or twenty on
- 56:15Speaker 7: the pitching depth chart this year kind of felt that
- 56:18Speaker 7: responsibility and that willingness to go and do something like
- 56:21Speaker 7: that last night.
- 56:23Speaker 2: Jack, I have two questions for you. One, why was
- 56:26Speaker 2: Yamamoto the choice and not Blake Snell to be possibly
- 56:30Speaker 2: the next pitcher for the Dodgers. Was it just a
- 56:32Speaker 2: case that Yamamoto volunteered to do it and Blake Snell didn't.
- 56:37Speaker 2: Had he already thrown his bullpen? Why was it Yamamoto
- 56:39Speaker 2: and not Snell?
- 56:41Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 56:41Speaker 7: I think Snell had thrown his bullpen before the game.
- 56:43Speaker 7: And then he's also going to be pitching, you know,
- 56:45Speaker 7: obviously tomorrow now, so you know, like Dave Roberts said
- 56:50Speaker 7: on the broadcast, he didn't want to use any of
- 56:52Speaker 7: his starters. And I think the calculation the Dodgers were
- 56:55Speaker 7: making once that game got into the sixteenth or seventeenth
- 56:58Speaker 7: inning was, you know, even if we lose, we can
- 57:02Speaker 7: come back and win this series as long as our
- 57:04Speaker 7: starting pitchers can get us there. And one thing the
- 57:08Speaker 7: Dodgers have been very wary of doing this postseason, even
- 57:10Speaker 7: with the bullpen struggles, is using starters out of the
- 57:13Speaker 7: pen on their throat day and things like that. So
- 57:15Speaker 7: I think they were perfectly content to just well not content,
- 57:19Speaker 7: but at that point of the game, they were playing
- 57:21Speaker 7: the risk reward game of you know what, it's not
- 57:24Speaker 7: worth burning our starters, you know, one of our starting
- 57:27Speaker 7: pitchers here in a way that could hurt us for
- 57:29Speaker 7: the rest of the series, even if we win tonight.
- 57:31Speaker 7: But then, yeah, Yamamoto, you know, he talked about this
- 57:34Speaker 7: after the game with the Japanese presses. You know, when
- 57:37Speaker 7: he first started playing pro ball in Japan, like he
- 57:40Speaker 7: would get ten days off after his starts, and he
- 57:43Speaker 7: was thinking about how, you know, he's transformed his body
- 57:47Speaker 7: and his training and got into a place where he
- 57:49Speaker 7: can throw a complete game on one day, take a
- 57:52Speaker 7: flight across the country to get in at five am
- 57:55Speaker 7: the next day, and then feel physically ready to go
- 57:58Speaker 7: down to the bullpen and get ready to pitch. And
- 57:59Speaker 7: that's basically what he got to is that as that
- 58:01Speaker 7: game was going on, he felt physically ready. He hadn't
- 58:04Speaker 7: thrown his bullpen yet, he wasn't going to do that
- 58:06Speaker 7: for a couple more days. His next start isn't until
- 58:08Speaker 7: Game six, so he was going to have more time
- 58:10Speaker 7: to recuperate anyway if he did come in and pitch,
- 58:13Speaker 7: and he felt ready to go, even after a season
- 58:15Speaker 7: in which he started thirty times and coming off back
- 58:18Speaker 7: to back complete games. So and I mean even the
- 58:22Speaker 7: fact of him even volunteering to pitch change the whole complexion,
- 58:25Speaker 7: because I think once Dave Roberts knew, okay, I do
- 58:28Speaker 7: have somebody behind Will Klein, he felt okay. Pushing him
- 58:31Speaker 7: for one more inning as opposed to going to a
- 58:33Speaker 7: position player in the eighteenth like he was initially planning
- 58:35Speaker 7: to do.
- 58:36Speaker 2: Javelin works wonders, but javelin just everyone needs to start
- 58:40Speaker 2: throwing the javelin thing. Like, I don't know whatever you
- 58:43Speaker 2: call that thing, But was that Clayton Kershaw swansong? Is
- 58:46Speaker 2: that the last time you think, unless something crazy happens,
- 58:49Speaker 2: that we'll see Clayton Kershaw on the mound in a
- 58:52Speaker 2: Dodgers uniform for his career or will there be another
- 58:55Speaker 2: opportunity for him.
- 58:57Speaker 7: I think it'll definitely be the last time you see
- 58:59Speaker 7: him in a moment where the game is on the
- 59:01Speaker 7: line like that, and that I mean to me, that
- 59:04Speaker 7: was the most memorable part of that game was his
- 59:08Speaker 7: entrance because there was just this nervous tension that kind
- 59:13Speaker 7: of came over the whole stadium because obviously people, you know,
- 59:17Speaker 7: are excited to see Clayton Kershaw pitch, but they also
- 59:19Speaker 7: know this might be his last time pitching, and oh no,
- 59:23Speaker 7: what if he blows this game and adds one more
- 59:27Speaker 7: just like terrible October disappointment to end his career. Like
- 59:31Speaker 7: that was the mood from the crowd. There wasn't a
- 59:34Speaker 7: ton of cheering. People were kind of almost sitting there
- 59:37Speaker 7: silently watching him warm up. Even the Dodgers' infielders were
- 59:40Speaker 7: just standing like right behind the mound watching him pitch
- 59:42Speaker 7: like it was a glad he hater going into the
- 59:45Speaker 7: ring or something. And then he comes out and he's
- 59:47Speaker 7: pumping ninety with his slider and ninety two with his fastball,
- 59:52Speaker 7: gets in a full count and has to make a
- 59:53Speaker 7: big pitch and you know, this, though, is why this
- 59:56Speaker 7: is the reason why they have him on the roster,
- 59:58Speaker 7: even though he's not starting games, even though it's up
- 1:00:00Speaker 7: isn't great is because they knew there might be a
- 1:00:03Speaker 7: moment where they needed somebody who was not going to
- 1:00:06Speaker 7: get rattled by a big situation, who is going to
- 1:00:09Speaker 7: be able to come in and execute a couple pitches,
- 1:00:11Speaker 7: And that's exactly what he did. And the elation that
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: was in the ballpark after that nervousness once he got
- 1:00:17Speaker 7: that final out from the crowd to the dugout where
- 1:00:20Speaker 7: Dave Roberts gave him a huge high five as he
- 1:00:23Speaker 7: was coming back down the stairs, and of the broadcast
- 1:00:25Speaker 7: like cut to his wife in the stands and just
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: the emotions that she was feeling in that moment.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: It was.
- 1:00:32Speaker 7: It was a really interesting scene. And if it is
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: his final time pitching in the big leagues, it was
- 1:00:38Speaker 7: a cool way I think for him to go out
- 1:00:40Speaker 7: getting this little taste of October success to.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: All right, I guess toin tonight. Sure, Hey, there's no
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: way of tracking this. Oh we can see you know,
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: his exhaustion meter is way down. How much did last
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: night being on base nine times? Is it going to
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: go into day Roberts decision making based on how he's
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: pitching tonight. You assume perfection from him. But is Dave
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: Roberts gonna sit there and go, Okay, this is the
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: fifth Now you know he's been on base twice tonight,
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: nine times last night. How much is it gonna go
- 1:01:19Speaker 2: in or is it only gonna be the eye test
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: for Dave tonight?
- 1:01:23Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 1:01:23Speaker 7: I mean the way that they've handled Otani all year,
- 1:01:26Speaker 7: it's both the eye test and just communicating with him.
- 1:01:30Speaker 7: And I think that the one thing they've done is
- 1:01:33Speaker 7: trust what he's telling them about how he's feeling at
- 1:01:36Speaker 7: various stages of his rehab and recovery and ramping back
- 1:01:39Speaker 7: up to being a full time two way player. And
- 1:01:42Speaker 7: I expect that's probably how it's gonna go tonight. I'm
- 1:01:44Speaker 7: sure that you know they're gonna be extra cautious about
- 1:01:48Speaker 7: if it looks like his stuff is falling off or
- 1:01:50Speaker 7: it looks like he's fatiguing on the mound, because the
- 1:01:53Speaker 7: one thing they don't want to do is push him
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: to a point where you start risking injury or something
- 1:01:56Speaker 7: like that. But my guess is that after every ing,
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: Dave Robert's gonna ask Otani, how are you feeling? And
- 1:02:03Speaker 7: as long as he's feeling okay, which you know, given
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: what this guy does, the way he takes care of
- 1:02:08Speaker 7: his body, the way he prepares, you know, I wouldn't
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: be surprised if he's able to go out there and
- 1:02:13Speaker 7: throw eighty ninety one hundred pitches without making it look
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: like he had just played eighteen innings the night before.
- 1:02:19Speaker 3: So we'll see.
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: I think, you know, even for Otani, he's probably not
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: going to know until he gets into the game, starts
- 1:02:24Speaker 7: getting deeper into the game, seeing how his body's feeling,
- 1:02:27Speaker 7: seeing how his stuff is holding up. I think the
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: one good part for him is that, you know, over
- 1:02:32Speaker 7: these last couple of weeks, he's really he's really found
- 1:02:36Speaker 7: his feel for his full arsenal pitches in a way
- 1:02:39Speaker 7: where he's probably not just having a rear back and
- 1:02:41Speaker 7: throw as hard as he can every time. So it'll
- 1:02:42Speaker 7: be interesting to see how he approaches the start, how
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: the Dodgers handle him. But I think ultimately, you know,
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: how long he goes is going to come down to
- 1:02:49Speaker 7: how he's feeling and what the communication is like between
- 1:02:52Speaker 7: him and Dave Roberts during the game.
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: They handled him delicately working him back into the mix.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Throughout the season, for this moment so that he feels
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: good right now, and clearly he looks and feels good
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: right now. Jack, great stuff, Thanks for joining us. Enjoy
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: the next couple of days out there at the ballpark.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Thanks guys, we got one minute here at the finish line.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Did you guys see Shohy and Yamamoto embrace and the interpreters,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: And I think Roki was in there. I don't know,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: there was like five or six of them. He was
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: in there too, Rokie. I thought that was cool for
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: those guys. I mean, you got to keep in mind,
