- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture
- 0:08Speaker 2: news twice a week. I'm Sophie Torber. I'm Amy Torber.
- 0:12Speaker 1: And I'm Kate Torber.
- 0:13Speaker 2: And coming up on today's show, Kia Buckley and Kikiva
- 0:16Speaker 2: Collection face backlash.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Over racial slur.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Tammy Hembrough's exes face off in a tense encounter. But first,
- 0:23Speaker 2: a war of words has broken out between Saffron Barker's
- 0:27Speaker 2: ex and her best friend, Now, her ex is, of course,
- 0:30Speaker 2: Scottish model Josh Milne, and her best friend in question
- 0:33Speaker 2: is Love Islander Harriet Blackmore. Now, I am living for
- 0:37Speaker 2: just how petty this drama is. It's so funny, Amy.
- 0:40Speaker 2: This is literally our Roman Empire. We will forward each
- 0:43Speaker 2: other these TikToks late at night, and I always have
- 0:45Speaker 2: to check to make sure my husband isn't looking over
- 0:47Speaker 2: my shoulder because majority of the videos, Josh has his
- 0:51Speaker 2: abs out, he's flexing, and it looks like I'm perving
- 0:53Speaker 2: on him, but I'm actually just more tisking at how
- 0:56Speaker 2: cringe they are. He's a very good looking guy. He
- 0:58Speaker 2: looks like a young Chad Michael Murray with a shaved head.
- 1:02Speaker 2: And every time I see these videos, I just think
- 1:05Speaker 2: what must Safran Barker be thinking? Because surely you'd be devastated.
- 1:09Speaker 2: He's almost looks hotter now than when she dated him.
- 1:12Speaker 3: He does.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I feel like he's ramped up the content.
- 1:15Speaker 2: It's like at a different quality because His friend who's
- 1:18Speaker 2: another TikToker, he clearly has been filming all of the videos.
- 1:21Speaker 1: They're very aesthetic.
- 1:23Speaker 2: It's funny you say that, Kate, because I think a
- 1:24Speaker 2: lot of fans are saying Saffron must be thanking her
- 1:27Speaker 2: lucky stars that she's not with him because the videos.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Are that next level cringe.
- 1:31Speaker 2: The catalyst for the fight between Josh and Saffron's best friend, Harriet,
- 1:35Speaker 2: was a video that he shared with the caption, point
- 1:38Speaker 2: of view, the lights red and you're looking at me
- 1:40Speaker 2: like that. And in the video, he's gazing over at
- 1:43Speaker 2: the passenger seat and smiling. He then leans in for
- 1:47Speaker 2: a kiss. The most awkward thing about this, though, is
- 1:49Speaker 2: that it's quite clear that no one is sitting in
- 1:51Speaker 2: the passenger seat and you just get this image of
- 1:54Speaker 2: him setting up his phone and pretending to kiss the air.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I actually think the music added another level of awkwardness
- 2:01Speaker 2: to it.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Let's play it.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Music I saw this late at night and I was like,
- 2:13Speaker 2: oh my God. I headed straight to the comment section
- 2:16Speaker 2: and the first comment I saw was someone shared a
- 2:18Speaker 2: photo of an empty passenger seat and someone else wrote,
- 2:21Speaker 2: the fact the car seat is empty is killing me.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Another person said, Saf is getting unlimited entertainment from this one.
- 2:29Speaker 2: So he lives in Dubai and of course there's a
- 2:31Speaker 2: lot of influencers that live there and it's probably quite
- 2:34Speaker 2: normal to film stuff in public. But still, I think
- 2:37Speaker 2: if I walked past this in Dubai and saw him
- 2:39Speaker 2: pretending to kiss the air, I'd just be like, what
- 2:41Speaker 2: the fuck's going on? There needs to be an influencers
- 2:43Speaker 2: while Dubai version.
- 2:45Speaker 1: I think there is.
- 2:46Speaker 2: They're not working hard enough. This needed to be captured.
- 2:49Speaker 2: There's nothing more unattractive than a man that knows he's attractive.
- 2:53Speaker 2: And this is essentially what these videos put out. The
- 2:55Speaker 2: worst thing is. I actually really liked him in Saffron's
- 2:59Speaker 2: content because he's smart.
- 3:01Speaker 1: He went to uni. He's good at art. He's good
- 3:03Speaker 1: at art. Like he's good at cooking. He's got a
- 3:05Speaker 1: good six pack. Yeah, fair bod on him. He's got
- 3:08Speaker 1: all of these things going for him. But then it's
- 3:10Speaker 1: his vanity that ruins it for him. But can I
- 3:12Speaker 1: just offend Josh here?
- 3:15Speaker 2: He's pretty clever for putting out this type of content
- 3:17Speaker 2: because his following, especially on TikTok, has exploded since he
- 3:21Speaker 2: started sharing this. I mean, he's a model. So of
- 3:24Speaker 2: course this is the type of content he is going
- 3:25Speaker 2: to share.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Like It's literally a male version of bikini content.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. And it's for a certain demographic, a
- 3:32Speaker 2: certain audience. Of 37-year-old mums that want to see it.
- 3:35Speaker 2: And he is playing into it. Now, we need to
- 3:37Speaker 2: talk about Saffron Barker's best friend, Harriet, absolutely owning Josh
- 3:41Speaker 2: in the comment section. So she wrote, alone, afraid and scared. Now,
- 3:46Speaker 2: her comment received over 25,000 likes. People also started calling
- 3:51Speaker 2: her a queen in the comment section. Some people even
- 3:54Speaker 2: shared GIFs that they'd created of her with a crown on.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I want to know, was this comment approved by Saffron Barker?
- 4:00Speaker 2: I reckon Saffron Barker would have been sitting right next
- 4:02Speaker 2: to her as she published this comment. Well, I hope
- 4:05Speaker 2: she approved it because it essentially gives an insight into
- 4:08Speaker 2: what she must be thinking.
- 4:09Speaker 4: Oh, yeah.
- 4:10Speaker 2: To me, when I saw the comment, it made me
- 4:12Speaker 2: think that she's.
- 4:13Speaker 1: A bit salty.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Like I know that it's being played off as, oh,
- 4:16Speaker 2: like this comment from Harriet is amazing. It really owns him.
- 4:20Speaker 2: But you wouldn't get your best friend to make that
- 4:22Speaker 2: comment if you weren't bothered by it.
- 4:24Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:25Speaker 2: A lot of people also writing, I wish I was
- 4:27Speaker 2: in Saffron Barker's group chat.
- 4:29Speaker 1: That has been a constant comment.
- 4:30Speaker 2: One of the more cringe videos I've seen is Josh
- 4:33Speaker 2: painting a self-portrait. And so, I mean, he's got his
- 4:36Speaker 2: top off and it's so funny because now he's put
- 4:39Speaker 2: the portrait up in his house.
- 4:40Speaker 1: And in another video, someone's like, I have a question.
- 4:42Speaker 2: Is that a self-portrait resting against the wall?
- 4:44Speaker 1: And furthermore, did you paint it?
- 4:46Speaker 2: And he responded, it is a self-portrait. And I painted
- 4:49Speaker 2: it with a little poking out tongue and an angel emoji.
- 4:52Speaker 1: I was like, what the fuck?
- 4:54Speaker 2: Look at God, he actually needs some help with these
- 4:56Speaker 2: clapbacks because he's not doing too well. It took him
- 4:58Speaker 2: a week to respond to Harriet's comment. And he ended
- 5:02Speaker 2: up writing, I'm all right. Save the concern for your
- 5:04Speaker 2: next Love Island decoupling. Now, in comparison to Harriet's 25,000 likes,
- 5:10Speaker 2: that like only got 224 likes. And a lot of
- 5:13Speaker 2: people were commenting that Harriet's comment got more likes than
- 5:17Speaker 2: Josh's original video, which is rather awkward. Well, I think
- 5:21Speaker 2: that's why he then followed it up with another TikTok.
- 5:23Speaker 2: So days later he shared a video of himself topless
- 5:27Speaker 2: sunning himself.
- 5:27Speaker 6: Hold on.
- 5:28Speaker 2: You say shirtless if it's a man, not topless.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And sunning himself. Do you mean sunbaking? Well, he was literally.
- 5:34Speaker 1: What if he's a cat? No, he was topless and
- 5:36Speaker 1: he was moving his. It's okay.
- 5:38Speaker 2: He was shirtless and he was moving his face around
- 5:40Speaker 2: in the sun and then the caption said, alone, maybe.
- 5:44Speaker 1: Scared and afraid, not in this weather.
- 5:47Speaker 2: So I actually quite like that caption. But again, maybe
- 5:51Speaker 2: don't look like a douchebag in the overlays. Unfortunately for Josh,
- 5:54Speaker 2: this didn't land the way he hoped. The comment section
- 5:56Speaker 2: ended up being filled with people sharing GIFs of Harriet
- 5:59Speaker 2: as a queen. My favorite comment had to be Saf's
- 6:02Speaker 2: group chat going off, pure entertainment every day.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Jokes aside, I do feel.
- 6:07Speaker 2: A little bit sorry for Josh because this all seems
- 6:09Speaker 2: to be getting to him. A few days ago, he
- 6:12Speaker 2: shared this on TikTok. To anyone who sends me hate
- 6:15Speaker 2: on TikTok, I just want to say thank you because
- 6:18Speaker 2: all you're doing is adding fuel to me wanting to
- 6:21Speaker 2: be better. So keep it coming. That's all I'm going
- 6:24Speaker 2: to say. He won me over with the Scottish accent
- 6:27Speaker 2: and the fact that his voice kind of quivered a
- 6:29Speaker 2: little bit, like you could tell he wasn't feeling ultra confident.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I think I'm going to go give some of his
- 6:33Speaker 1: videos a bit of a like.
- 6:34Speaker 2: You forget that he's 25. Think about my little cousins
- 6:37Speaker 2: and if they were having hate hurled at them like this.
- 6:40Speaker 6: I know.
- 6:40Speaker 2: And he has been giving a few hints though about
- 6:43Speaker 2: the relationship breakdown. So he put up another, one of
- 6:46Speaker 2: those other shirtless videos with the caption over the top
- 6:48Speaker 2: that said, find yourself again when you stop changing to
- 6:51Speaker 2: keep someone around. And then he also put up another
- 6:54Speaker 2: that said, better to admit you walked through the wrong
- 6:56Speaker 2: door than spend your life in the wrong room. And
- 6:59Speaker 2: his mum actually commented under this one saying, onwards and upwards, son.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, he seems like a really lovely guy.
- 7:04Speaker 2: And that's why I think, oh, why do you have
- 7:06Speaker 2: to post such douchey content? I don't necessarily think he's
- 7:09Speaker 2: the good guy in all of this, though. I feel
- 7:11Speaker 2: for Saffron Barker, I think that maybe there was a
- 7:13Speaker 2: bit of bad behaviour going on behind the scenes.
- 7:15Speaker 1: I mean, we don't know what's actually happened.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And all he's doing is playing the game like every
- 7:20Speaker 2: other influencer. I mean, you've got to remember Saffron Barker
- 7:23Speaker 2: got the following she did originally because she was dating
- 7:25Speaker 2: an influencer.
- 7:26Speaker 1: He's true.
- 7:27Speaker 2: All of this hate is actually only giving him more
- 7:30Speaker 2: engagement and more followers. He has had these cooking videos
- 7:33Speaker 2: which he does shirtless, not topless, shirtless.
- 7:36Speaker 1: You sound like a big fan, Amy.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Because I've been like sending it to you a lot.
- 7:41Speaker 6: All right.
- 7:45Speaker 1: I was actually in the car seat.
- 7:48Speaker 2: I'm already sensing Rodney sending in some comments. Amy's actually
- 7:51Speaker 2: moving to Dubai to be his personal videographer.
- 7:53Speaker 1: She's going to sit in that seat. Put some more
- 7:55Speaker 1: oil on your abs.
- 7:56Speaker 2: Sophie, it was actually me that filmed that video putting
- 7:58Speaker 2: jewels on his back. I've got to tell the listeners,
- 8:01Speaker 2: there was a video recently that he put up and
- 8:04Speaker 2: all you saw was his hand with these fake fingernails
- 8:06Speaker 2: putting like stick-on jewels on his really muscly back and
- 8:09Speaker 2: he leant forward and then just absolutely tense, like holding
- 8:12Speaker 2: his muscles out. And my favorite comment on this read.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Okay, so hold the phone, then pan out, and then wave.
- 8:20Speaker 2: The funniest thing is that's actually a baby shower trend.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I saw this influencer I follow, and at the baby shower,
- 8:30Speaker 2: you go and put the jewels on the pregnant belly.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Is that what he was referencing, was it?
- 8:36Speaker 4: Tez, I'm on live.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Influencer Kia Buckley and her activewear brand, Kikiva Collection, are
- 8:42Speaker 2: facing intense backlash after a racial slur was broadcast on
- 8:46Speaker 2: her TikTok live. The fallout has been massive with public
- 8:50Speaker 2: figures distancing themselves from the brand and customers throwing out
- 8:54Speaker 2: their activewear. Now, Kate, before we dive into this story,
- 8:57Speaker 2: who is Kia Buckley? Well, she's a 24-year-old Perth-based influencer
- 9:01Speaker 2: and entrepreneur with around 138,000 followers on TikTok and 55,000
- 9:03Speaker 2: on Instagram. Now, she founded the activewear brand Kikiva Collection
- 9:10Speaker 2: in 2022. Initially, she ran the brand out of her
- 9:14Speaker 2: garage before growing it into a multi-million dollar business. Now,
- 9:18Speaker 2: she is the acting CEO with 10 staff working under her.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And in a bout of terrible timing, the brand actually
- 9:25Speaker 2: opened its first brick and mortar store in Perth just
- 9:28Speaker 2: two months ago. I am just still astounded at how
- 9:31Speaker 2: many influencer activewear brands are still standing these days. I mean, obviously,
- 9:35Speaker 2: we've recently lost Sasky, but We were talking about Allure.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and how many of them are getting into controversy? Yeah,
- 9:40Speaker 1: and I've never heard of Kikiva collection. Are their clothes good?
- 9:43Speaker 2: I saw someone saying, oh, well, another activewear brand cancelled.
- 9:47Speaker 2: I'll just have to purchase from another influencer selling Ali
- 9:50Speaker 2: Barber clothes. The difference is this brand actually sounds quite
- 9:53Speaker 2: successful though. I mean, as you said, Kate, it's worth
- 9:56Speaker 2: millions of dollars and they've just opened up their first
- 9:58Speaker 2: brick and mortar store. Now that we're all up to speed,
- 10:01Speaker 2: let's go back to the beginning. So it all started
- 10:03Speaker 2: on the 9th of October when Kia did a TikTok live.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Now she was putting on makeup in her room and
- 10:09Speaker 2: answering fan questions when her younger sister Tez arrived home
- 10:14Speaker 2: and used the N-word off camera.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Let's take a listen to how it all unfolded.
- 10:20Speaker 7: Oh, that's my little sister. She just arrived home.
- 10:23Speaker 6: Tez, I'm on live.
- 10:29Speaker 1: What followed was a long pause. You could literally see
- 10:32Speaker 1: the cogs turning in Kia's head.
- 10:35Speaker 2: Viewers of the live immediately challenged Kia on what they heard.
- 10:39Speaker 2: And this is how Kia responded.
- 10:41Speaker 7: No, she didn't say that. She said, well, up sissies.
- 10:45Speaker 7: She was just always naked.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Fuck off.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 10:49Speaker 2: We all heard exactly what she said. It's literally like
- 10:52Speaker 2: watching a car crash. And the fact that Kia's immediate
- 10:54Speaker 2: reaction was to go, oh, I'm on live, rather than
- 10:58Speaker 2: being like, what the fuck just came out of your mouth?
- 11:01Speaker 2: It made it seem like this is a word that
- 11:03Speaker 2: is used quite regularly amongst the sisters, because otherwise, wouldn't.
- 11:07Speaker 1: You have a bit of a look of shock on
- 11:09Speaker 1: your face?
- 11:09Speaker 2: I mean, she looked startled, but you could tell she
- 11:11Speaker 2: was like, holy fuck, everyone has heard that. I actually
- 11:16Speaker 2: noticed a bit of a smirk when she was reading
- 11:18Speaker 2: her phone. It was almost like she was trying not
- 11:21Speaker 2: to laugh.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I think it was more of an awkward smile.
- 11:23Speaker 2: I don't think she actually thought the situation was funny.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I think she was like, holy fuck, this casual racism
- 11:28Speaker 2: has been caught out. I mean, the fact that she
- 11:30Speaker 2: lied and said, oh no, no, it was, hey sissies,
- 11:32Speaker 2: when we all heard what she said. And then the
- 11:34Speaker 2: fact that she claimed that her sister was naked and
- 11:37Speaker 2: that's why she.
- 11:37Speaker 1: Yelled out to her.
- 11:38Speaker 2: It's like, This makes zero sense. Why would she be
- 11:40Speaker 2: naked when she's entering the house? She clearly went into
- 11:43Speaker 2: defensive mode and was trying to cover this up and
- 11:45Speaker 2: make this.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Not a thing. And protect her sister somewhat.
- 11:49Speaker 2: As you can imagine, the backlash was immediate and directed
- 11:52Speaker 2: at both sisters. Tez Buckley was obviously criticised for using
- 11:56Speaker 2: the racial slur, while many called out the way Kia
- 11:59Speaker 2: reacted to it all. Despite this blowing up, it took
- 12:03Speaker 2: Kia six days to issue an apology and It appeared
- 12:07Speaker 2: as a written statement on her personal TikTok story and read,
- 12:10Speaker 2: Hey guys, I want to address an incident that occurred
- 12:13Speaker 2: during my TikTok live last Friday evening. During the live,
- 12:16Speaker 2: a family member arrived home and used a racial slur
- 12:18Speaker 2: in the background off camera. I was deeply shocked, disappointed
- 12:22Speaker 2: and upset by what was said. I want to sincerely
- 12:24Speaker 2: apologize to everyone who heard it and anyone who has
- 12:27Speaker 2: been hurt by that language. The use of racial slurs
- 12:30Speaker 2: or any other derogatory words is completely unacceptable under any
- 12:34Speaker 2: circumstances and I want to make it clear that I
- 12:36Speaker 2: do not condone racism in any form. The first thing
- 12:39Speaker 2: that ran through my head when I saw this statement was,
- 12:42Speaker 2: is that from ChatGPT? Well, it showed me that it
- 12:44Speaker 2: took six days and this was the best that she
- 12:46Speaker 2: and Chat could come up with. Like clearly she needed
- 12:48Speaker 2: a professional crisis management PR team. A disappearing Instagram story. See,
- 12:53Speaker 2: I think the worst thing that she did was lie
- 12:56Speaker 2: about it straight off the bat and try and cover
- 12:58Speaker 2: up what her sister said.
- 12:59Speaker 1: I mean, it's sort of taking everyone as a bit
- 13:02Speaker 1: of a fool. You know what I mean?
- 13:04Speaker 2: No, no, no, no. I was like, how does the
- 13:06Speaker 2: word sissy even sound similar to the racial slur that
- 13:09Speaker 2: she said? And the fact that she took six days
- 13:11Speaker 2: to respond, it makes me think that she was hoping
- 13:13Speaker 2: that this would all just blow over. Well, she actually
- 13:15Speaker 2: claimed that she was getting surgery and that's why it
- 13:18Speaker 2: was delayed. So only a couple of months ago, she
- 13:20Speaker 2: opened up about being diagnosed with an aggressive skin cancer
- 13:23Speaker 2: that she had treated at the time. So- I don't
- 13:26Speaker 2: know if it was a surgery related to this. Now, unsurprisingly,
- 13:30Speaker 2: the statement did nothing to silence the criticism and influencers
- 13:34Speaker 2: began publicly cutting ties with the brand. However, as the
- 13:37Speaker 2: backlash deepened, some corners of the internet began to defend
- 13:41Speaker 2: Kia and Tez against supposed bullying. Some commenters claimed that
- 13:45Speaker 2: it was just a joke and the situation was being
- 13:48Speaker 2: blown out of proportion. Others claimed the Buckley sisters didn't
- 13:52Speaker 2: use the word maliciously. Now, it was at this point
- 13:55Speaker 2: that Kia's brother allegedly entered the chat and claimed his
- 13:58Speaker 2: sister was just using the word affectionately. From there, Abby
- 14:02Speaker 2: Chatfield weighed into the discussion and pushed back against the
- 14:05Speaker 2: growing online rhetoric that the situation wasn't that deep.
- 14:09Speaker 8: People are filling the comment sections, flipping the narrative and
- 14:13Speaker 8: saying things like, oh my God, this is ridiculous. It's
- 14:17Speaker 8: not that deep. We have bigger problems right now in Australia.
- 14:20Speaker 8: And the reality is, yes, we do have bigger problems
- 14:22Speaker 8: right now in Australia. And a lot of them stem
- 14:25Speaker 8: from instances like this. The instances of casual bigotry, in
- 14:30Speaker 8: my opinion. The reality that people are now allowing.
- 14:35Speaker 1: not.
- 14:35Speaker 8: Even just allowing and not speaking up or condemning the
- 14:39Speaker 8: use of the N-word, but actually condemning those that condemn
- 14:43Speaker 8: the use of the N-word. There's this widespread Davo happening
- 14:47Speaker 8: where people that call out people who are saying slurs,
- 14:51Speaker 8: people that call out people who are being misogynistic, people
- 14:54Speaker 8: that call out people who are being transphobic, or people
- 14:56Speaker 8: who are just spreading misinformation about various political issues, People
- 15:01Speaker 8: who call those people out are labeled as bullies and
- 15:04Speaker 8: those people are then attacked and deplatformed more so than
- 15:09Speaker 8: the people who have done the initial instance of bigotry.
- 15:12Speaker 1: I completely agree with Abby.
- 15:14Speaker 2: It is so baffling to me that in 2026, there's
- 15:16Speaker 2: people out there defending the use of the N-word and
- 15:18Speaker 2: people who clearly don't understand why it is so offensive.
- 15:22Speaker 2: I mean, I think it's really important that we have
- 15:23Speaker 2: to acknowledge as three white women, we can never fully
- 15:27Speaker 2: comprehend and understand the weight of that word or the
- 15:30Speaker 2: lived experiences of the people who have been hurt by it.
- 15:33Speaker 2: But I think it's really important to support and amplify
- 15:35Speaker 2: black voices to explain how deeply harmful and offensive that
- 15:39Speaker 2: word is.
- 15:40Speaker 1: That's why I want to play a powerful grab from
- 15:41Speaker 1: a black.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Creator who goes by the handle sin.vhs on TikTok.
- 15:46Speaker 4: I need to know that Kia knows that that word
- 15:52Speaker 4: ripped families apart, ripped teeth out of skulls. Made it
- 15:59Speaker 4: okay to ingest other human beings. Made it okay to
- 16:04Speaker 4: use human hair as sofa foam. Made it okay to kill.
- 16:17Speaker 4: This word goes beyond just what you hear in rap music.
- 16:25Speaker 4: I need people to really comprehend and marinate in what
- 16:30Speaker 4: the N-word means. Okay? Jay-Z and 50 Cent, it's not
- 16:37Speaker 4: about context. Which I feel like a lot of Australians
- 16:41Speaker 4: are really holding on to.
- 16:43Speaker 6: No, no, no, no.
- 16:44Speaker 4: But I said it in a jokey way.
- 16:46Speaker 1: No, you didn't.
- 16:47Speaker 4: There's no other way to say the N-word as a
- 16:51Speaker 4: white person. There's no other way. What do you mean
- 16:56Speaker 4: you said it in a jokey way? I need someone
- 16:59Speaker 4: to define what that means for me. So if you
- 17:02Speaker 4: come up to me right now and you say, what's up,
- 17:04Speaker 4: my N-word, am I just supposed to go, yeah, I
- 17:11Speaker 4: did fail comprehension in English. Maybe this is a joke.
- 17:16Speaker 4: It is such a loaded, disgusting, sick word when it's
- 17:21Speaker 4: coming out of a mouth. I'm so sorry, but you
- 17:28Speaker 4: can never convince me that a person means well when
- 17:32Speaker 4: they say the N word.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Ever.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Ever.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Gee, she just articulated that so well. Now, off the
- 17:41Speaker 2: back of Abby Chatfield's podcast, Kia had a second crack
- 17:44Speaker 2: at an apology, this time releasing a statement on Kikiva's
- 17:47Speaker 2: Instagram feed, which said, Our founder, Kia, unreservedly apologizes for
- 17:52Speaker 2: walking past a standard we should never accept. By not
- 17:55Speaker 2: calling out racism in that moment, we hurt our community,
- 17:58Speaker 2: our customers, and everyone who has supported us. We have
- 18:01Speaker 2: let you down. An apology isn't enough. So here is
- 18:04Speaker 2: what we are doing now. Everyone in our business, including Kia,
- 18:07Speaker 2: will complete cultural and historical learning. Kia will meet with
- 18:10Speaker 2: elders and community knowledge holders to listen and understand the
- 18:13Speaker 2: harm we have caused and learn how to do better. Now,
- 18:16Speaker 2: comments on this post were limited. This apology has very
- 18:20Speaker 2: 2020 vibes, doesn't it? To me, I feel like ChatGPT
- 18:23Speaker 2: has scanned apologies from that time and thought, okay, let's
- 18:26Speaker 2: put together a list of things and how to manage it.
- 18:28Speaker 2: It's literally just a list of vague promises. It doesn't
- 18:31Speaker 2: actually explain what she intends to do. And at this point,
- 18:34Speaker 2: it really just feels like reputation management rather than genuinely
- 18:37Speaker 2: wanting to educate yourself.
- 18:39Speaker 1: It's just like ticking a box. Oh, I better say that.
- 18:41Speaker 2: Yeah, the first thing I thought was, oh, this must
- 18:43Speaker 2: be affecting sales. And the fact that Abby Chatfield has
- 18:47Speaker 2: spoken out about it, they would have gone, fuck, we've.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Got to respond.
- 18:51Speaker 2: What missed the mark with these two apologies is the
- 18:54Speaker 2: fact that Kia didn't appear on camera and didn't speak
- 18:57Speaker 2: directly to her audience. If you are that apologetic and
- 19:00Speaker 2: shameful for what was said, then front up to your
- 19:03Speaker 2: audience and show them that you are. Particularly because that's
- 19:05Speaker 2: her bread and butter. Now, Sophie, you'll be happy to
- 19:07Speaker 2: know that that she ended up doing that for the
- 19:10Speaker 2: third apology. So clearly she didn't get the response she
- 19:13Speaker 2: wanted from the first two. Chat GPT, perhaps would you
- 19:16Speaker 2: like to appear on camera? So she thought, well, third
- 19:19Speaker 2: time's a charm and released her third apology a day
- 19:23Speaker 2: later where she actually fronted the camera. Let's take a
- 19:26Speaker 2: listen to what she said.
- 19:27Speaker 7: Hey guys, I wanted to come on here and take
- 19:31Speaker 7: full accountability and responsibility for a racial slur that was
- 19:37Speaker 7: said on my live.
- 19:39Speaker 6: At the end of the day, this was set on
- 19:41Speaker 6: my platform and in my household. So I need to
- 19:45Speaker 6: take full responsibility. I know I have handled this terribly
- 19:52Speaker 6: and I know my statement was wrong I want to
- 19:59Speaker 6: address the reaction of my life because I know that
- 20:04Speaker 6: this was not okay and if I could go back
- 20:08Speaker 6: in time and and immediately call out the racial slur,
- 20:13Speaker 6: I would. I also want to apologise for trying to
- 20:21Speaker 6: cover up the racial slur by saying, what's up, sissies?
- 20:28Speaker 6: If I'm going to be completely honest, I was utterly shocked.
- 20:36Speaker 7: And in disbelief, and that is the truth.
- 20:40Speaker 6: I am so ashamed and I'm so embarrassed that I
- 20:43Speaker 6: condoned in that moment casual racism.
- 20:49Speaker 7: And I'm really sorry.
- 20:51Speaker 6: I also want to address my silence. If I want
- 20:57Speaker 6: to be completely honest with you, I did not know
- 21:00Speaker 6: how to navigate such an extreme, horrific incident.
- 21:08Speaker 7: I didn't want to continue hurting people.
- 21:14Speaker 6: I know how damaging this language is and I know
- 21:20Speaker 6: it affects so many people.
- 21:29Speaker 7: I'm sorry that.
- 21:31Speaker 6: I condone casual racism in that moment and in my house.
- 21:37Speaker 6: And I want you to know that I know an
- 21:39Speaker 6: apology is not going to fix any of this. There
- 21:44Speaker 6: is going to be and needed so much immense work
- 21:49Speaker 6: and education, not only in my private life, but in
- 21:53Speaker 6: my business and in my family. I want you to
- 22:00Speaker 6: know that I am so incredibly sorry that I'm regretful
- 22:10Speaker 6: and I will never let this happen again.
- 22:14Speaker 2: There was a lot of criticism that there was this
- 22:15Speaker 2: big sniff at the start of the apology video, but
- 22:18Speaker 2: no tears actually came out during said apology.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I was in that camp.
- 22:22Speaker 2: I actually found the whole thing very performative. And I
- 22:24Speaker 2: think when you're on your third attempt at an apology,
- 22:27Speaker 2: it loses validity, particularly because there's been so much backlash.
- 22:32Speaker 2: She's just being reactive to it and the message loses
- 22:35Speaker 2: any sincerity. I actually disagree, Kate.
- 22:37Speaker 1: I thought this was quite a good apology.
- 22:39Speaker 2: I know it took three takes to get there, but
- 22:42Speaker 2: she spoke in her own words. You could tell how
- 22:45Speaker 2: upset she was by this whole thing. And I think
- 22:48Speaker 2: what made me feel like I did feel bad for
- 22:50Speaker 2: watching this. I'm going to be honest because she's a
- 22:53Speaker 2: 24 year old girl. I don't agree with the use
- 22:55Speaker 2: of that word at all, but I, Felt quite sorry
- 22:58Speaker 2: for her because you know what the internet is like.
- 23:00Speaker 1: She's obviously copped a lot of backlash.
- 23:02Speaker 2: She has become the centre of this huge topic now
- 23:05Speaker 2: on casual racism. I think, if anything, this is a
- 23:08Speaker 2: lesson in why it's so important to speak up and
- 23:10Speaker 2: talk out against casual racism that you hear.
- 23:13Speaker 1: Day to day.
- 23:14Speaker 2: I mean, if Kia had called out her sister's behaviour immediately,
- 23:17Speaker 2: this would have been a very different story.
- 23:19Speaker 1: Yeah, it would have gone viral for quite a positive reason.
- 23:22Speaker 2: What's crazy to me is this is the third business
- 23:24Speaker 2: controversy we've covered this month on the podcast. And the
- 23:28Speaker 2: irony isn't lost on me that all of these businesses
- 23:31Speaker 2: have had this kickstart and they've grown.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Because of TikTok.
- 23:35Speaker 2: But TikTok is also the same platform that has fast-tracked
- 23:38Speaker 2: its failure. And so if you touched on it at
- 23:40Speaker 2: the start of the segment, this is just any influencer
- 23:44Speaker 2: activewear brand. But what actually set the brand apart is
- 23:48Speaker 2: that Kia made herself and the people behind the brand
- 23:51Speaker 2: part of the brand's appeal. So she was really savvy
- 23:54Speaker 2: with the way she used TikTok and rather than spending
- 23:57Speaker 2: big budgets on marketing campaigns, she actually grew the brand
- 24:01Speaker 2: by sharing founder-led behind-the-scenes content. And this is a massive
- 24:05Speaker 2: part of the reason why this incident has damaged Kia's
- 24:09Speaker 2: business so much. Because, okay, the incident really didn't have
- 24:12Speaker 2: anything to do with her activewear brand, but because her
- 24:14Speaker 2: personal brand and Kikiva are so intertwined, the company's personal
- 24:20Speaker 2: values are now hinging on. on the way she behaves publicly.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I really think it's going to be very difficult for
- 24:25Speaker 2: Kia and Kikiva to win trust back and come back
- 24:29Speaker 2: from this. The brand's success relied so heavily, as you said, Kate,
- 24:33Speaker 2: on this personal relationship that Kia has built with her audience.
- 24:36Speaker 1: And that's been broken now.
- 24:38Speaker 2: Yeah. And I think it would be different if Kia
- 24:40Speaker 2: had built a brand that was bigger than her. But
- 24:42Speaker 2: it still very much relies on her and her TikTok.
- 24:45Speaker 2: And we've seen this time and time again. It's very
- 24:47Speaker 2: difficult for influencer brands to survive when their reputation takes
- 24:51Speaker 2: a hit. I mean, look at Tammy Hembrough and Chloe Zep.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Both of their activewear brands have recently shut down. And
- 24:57Speaker 2: it was off the back of controversial behavior that, I mean,
- 25:00Speaker 2: I know it was, for Chloe Zep, it was a
- 25:02Speaker 2: couple of years of controversial behavior, but you can't tell
- 25:04Speaker 2: me that that didn't affect the bottom lines. Yeah. And
- 25:07Speaker 2: this incident has also gone global. So we've got US
- 25:09Speaker 2: content creators who are across it. They're condemning it. It's
- 25:12Speaker 2: also gotten to the point where people are sharing videos
- 25:15Speaker 2: of themselves throwing out their kikiva active, where it's very
- 25:17Speaker 2: reminiscent of when people were burning their Zep shorts on TikTok.
- 25:21Speaker 2: Do you think the answer could be Kia stepping back
- 25:24Speaker 2: from being the face of the business? I mean, I
- 25:25Speaker 2: don't know who would take over because all their ambassadors
- 25:28Speaker 2: and models and influencers are distancing themselves from the brand.
- 25:32Speaker 2: And the issue with Kia runs much deeper because she's
- 25:35Speaker 2: also the CEO of Kikiva. And I think with a
- 25:38Speaker 2: controversy at this scale, they probably need to hire a
- 25:41Speaker 2: new CEO and start building a brand identity away from
- 25:45Speaker 2: Kia because they can't rely on the former marketing strategy
- 25:48Speaker 2: that they used with this founder-led content because people aren't
- 25:52Speaker 2: going to want to engage with it or support it. Well,
- 25:54Speaker 2: what's interesting is this controversy hasn't affected Kia's personal following
- 25:58Speaker 2: much at all. So on TikTok, she's only lost 1.5
- 26:01Speaker 2: thousand followers this week. And on Instagram, she's actually gone
- 26:04Speaker 2: up by nearly 100 followers. As for her activewear brand,
- 26:08Speaker 2: it has taken most of the brunt. So they lost
- 26:11Speaker 2: 5.2 thousand followers on Instagram and 1.7 thousand on TikTok.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Tammy Hembrough has opened up about a tense encounter between
- 26:20Speaker 2: her boyfriend, Grayson T. Moana, and her baby daddy, Rhys Hawkins.
- 26:24Speaker 2: The fitness influencer, who has been on a recent press tour,
- 26:28Speaker 2: also spilled the tea on a chance meeting with her ex-husband,
- 26:32Speaker 2: Matt Zukowski. Now, Soph, Tammy made the admission on the
- 26:35Speaker 2: Inherited podcast as well as her sister, Emily Hembrough's podcast.
- 26:38Speaker 1: That's right.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Before we do get into some of the drama... I
- 26:41Speaker 2: want to know your thoughts about Tammy's chat on Inherited
- 26:44Speaker 2: because I had quite a visceral reaction listening to it.
- 26:47Speaker 2: I was actually pleasantly surprised by the interview because Ruby
- 26:51Speaker 2: Hall actually went there with the questions. When I first
- 26:54Speaker 2: saw the teaser, I thought, oh, this is going to
- 26:56Speaker 2: be a nothing interview, which doesn't really go into any
- 26:58Speaker 2: of the Matt Zukowski stuff. But the first question was
- 27:02Speaker 2: about Matt Zukowski and they actually, she kind of went
- 27:04Speaker 2: there with the answer and we found out stuff that
- 27:06Speaker 2: we actually had never heard before. The reason why I
- 27:08Speaker 2: said I had a visceral reaction to it is just
- 27:10Speaker 2: because I feel like when you listen to most podcast interviews,
- 27:14Speaker 2: usually the host tries to butter the person up and
- 27:17Speaker 2: there's a bit of conversation back and forth. But it
- 27:20Speaker 2: felt like Ruby was just firing these questions at Tammy.
- 27:23Speaker 2: And I totally understand why she had to do it though,
- 27:25Speaker 2: because in interviews, Tammy makes it really tough for the interviewer.
- 27:29Speaker 2: She speaks in these riddles about her relationships and she
- 27:32Speaker 2: also kind of just gives these close responses. I think
- 27:35Speaker 2: she's not very media trained. Like she's very shy. We
- 27:38Speaker 2: saw that at the Lucy and Nikki show. Like she
- 27:40Speaker 2: was petrified to go on stage with good reason. But
- 27:42Speaker 2: also it was good because sometimes, you know, when you
- 27:44Speaker 2: listen to those podcasts about a person's life and they
- 27:47Speaker 2: ask all these really boring questions about their childhood and
- 27:49Speaker 2: you're like, I couldn't give a rat's ass. I just
- 27:51Speaker 2: want to hear about the marriage. Shameless are obviously very
- 27:55Speaker 2: savvy and I think before this interview they would have
- 27:57Speaker 2: had a meeting and said, look, She gives closed responses.
- 28:00Speaker 2: We've just got to go there with the questions. We'll
- 28:02Speaker 2: have a question after question just lined up because we
- 28:05Speaker 2: don't want any dead air. And you can actually see
- 28:07Speaker 2: Ruby sitting there with her list of questions. I think
- 28:10Speaker 2: they also had to go there because they knew that
- 28:12Speaker 2: this interview would come with backlash.
- 28:14Speaker 1: And we saw that in the comment section.
- 28:16Speaker 2: A lot of people weren't happy that Inherited platformed her
- 28:19Speaker 2: on the show. Someone wrote, another boring interview by the
- 28:22Speaker 2: sounds of it. Another said, who fucking cares? And I
- 28:25Speaker 2: hope she talks about her cheating new boy toy. He
- 28:27Speaker 2: was living with his partner in Bondi while dating her
- 28:30Speaker 2: and she knew.
- 28:30Speaker 1: All about it.
- 28:31Speaker 2: It's interesting because I think it was about a year
- 28:33Speaker 2: or so ago, no one ever heard from Tammy. She
- 28:36Speaker 2: was a bit of a mystery and a lot of
- 28:39Speaker 2: people really wanted her on their podcast. But now it
- 28:42Speaker 2: seems like she's just on everyone's podcast and it's almost
- 28:46Speaker 2: like we've heard too much. She doesn't have that mystique
- 28:50Speaker 2: or the mystery around her anymore. I reckon Shameless would
- 28:53Speaker 2: have been spewing, though, because Tammy actually dropped more tea
- 28:55Speaker 2: on her sister Emily Hembrough's podcast than she did on Inherited. Well,
- 28:58Speaker 2: clearly she's much more comfortable around her sisters and happy
- 29:00Speaker 2: to open up. Well, she actually said during this podcast
- 29:03Speaker 2: that she... sometimes forgets that it's being recorded and then
- 29:06Speaker 2: worries about what she said.
- 29:07Speaker 1: I know that feeling.
- 29:08Speaker 2: You got called out by a listener in our Facebook
- 29:11Speaker 2: group by talking about having, well, there was a comment about,
- 29:13Speaker 2: I don't have a butt plug in and I feel
- 29:15Speaker 2: like I'm not going to provide any further.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Oh my God, Kate, you've got.
- 29:17Speaker 2: To provide context there because we were... No, use it
- 29:20Speaker 2: as a hook for people to listen to that episode.
- 29:22Speaker 1: No, because we were to do.
- 29:23Speaker 2: With the Allure Activewear stuff and someone had a butt
- 29:25Speaker 2: plug and.
- 29:26Speaker 1: Sophie confirmed that she didn't have one in. Yeah, it
- 29:27Speaker 1: was clearly a fucking sarcastic joke. Anyway, let's get onto
- 29:30Speaker 1: this bit.
- 29:31Speaker 2: So She obviously feels comfortable with her sisters to reveal
- 29:35Speaker 2: more and she gave the goods. So she revealed that
- 29:37Speaker 2: her boyfriend, Grayson, recently met her ex, Rhys Hawkins. Now
- 29:41Speaker 2: it turns out that Grayson has recently moved from Sydney
- 29:44Speaker 2: to live with Tammy and the kids on the Gold Coast.
- 29:46Speaker 2: So initially I assume maybe this encounter happened when Rhys
- 29:50Speaker 2: came over to visit the kids, but it seems like
- 29:52Speaker 2: this was more of a chance meeting in the wild
- 29:54Speaker 2: because Rhys Tammy didn't specify where they ran into Rhys,
- 29:58Speaker 2: but said she didn't know Rhys was going.
- 30:00Speaker 1: To be there.
- 30:01Speaker 2: It's weird because he lives in Bali and surely she
- 30:04Speaker 2: would be one of the first people to know that
- 30:06Speaker 2: he was in Queensland because wouldn't he want to come over.
- 30:09Speaker 1: And see the kids?
- 30:10Speaker 2: Do you think it could have been at some sort
- 30:11Speaker 2: of brand event?
- 30:12Speaker 1: No, I think it's more of a shopping centre. Well,
- 30:14Speaker 1: wherever it.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Was, it sounded like it was incredibly awkward because Tammy
- 30:17Speaker 2: described it as a tense encounter.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Let's throw to more of what she said. They actually
- 30:22Speaker 1: met the other day.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Did they?
- 30:23Speaker 1: How did that go? Yeah, I want to know.
- 30:30Speaker 5: It's just nothing really. So like hi and bye, handshake. No,
- 30:35Speaker 5: they didn't even handshake.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Did they say hi?
- 30:39Speaker 5: Grayson said hi. It was just a bit of a
- 30:43Speaker 5: tense encounter. It was just like a. I don't know.
- 30:47Speaker 5: It was very much like the current boyfriend meeting the ex-boyfriend.
- 30:51Speaker 5: Like that's the best way I can describe it. But
- 30:56Speaker 5: I feel like it was going to happen at some point.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Yeah, and it will probably like slowly the next interaction,
- 31:02Speaker 3: you know, like hello back.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Why did I just get in my head her
- 31:08Speaker 2: being like, come on, Grayson, say hi to this lovely man.
- 31:11Speaker 1: This is, this is.
- 31:12Speaker 2: But how awkward going in for the handshake and being
- 31:14Speaker 2: totally rejected. Like there's a bit of alpha dog going
- 31:16Speaker 2: on with Rhys Hawkins rejecting it there, isn't there?
- 31:19Speaker 1: I reckon Tammy would have been loving every moment of this.
- 31:22Speaker 1: I don't think so. She apparently just awkwardly laughed. That
- 31:25Speaker 1: seems to be her.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Go-to when she feels uncomfortable. And that makes me feel
- 31:29Speaker 2: more vindicated that we did not approach her behind the, well,
- 31:32Speaker 2: backstage at the Lucy and Nikki thing.
- 31:34Speaker 1: She probably would have fucking laughed in our faces. We
- 31:36Speaker 1: put our hand up for a handshake. It's like instantly rejected.
- 31:38Speaker 2: It's so obvious to me that it was awkward between
- 31:41Speaker 2: the pair because Tammy clearly still has feelings for Rhys
- 31:44Speaker 2: Hawke and she was chasing him at the start of
- 31:46Speaker 2: this year.
- 31:47Speaker 1: They were apparently a hot item.
- 31:49Speaker 2: We had people sending us videos of them macking on.
- 31:52Speaker 1: At the beach.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Yeah, but reading between the lines, I think Rhys is
- 31:55Speaker 2: a bit hurt by it because if you look at
- 31:57Speaker 2: the timeline, they went on this date in January. That's
- 32:00Speaker 2: when all the Vision, as you said, Kate was being
- 32:02Speaker 2: sent through to us. That's when the media were reporting
- 32:05Speaker 2: about them rekindling their relationship.
- 32:07Speaker 1: And he got out of his own relationship too.
- 32:09Speaker 2: And then Grayson and Tammy started dating in February.
- 32:12Speaker 1: So there was a month between.
- 32:13Speaker 2: These two, I suppose, situationships starting. I also wonder how
- 32:16Speaker 2: Rhys would feel about this 23-year-old kid hanging out with
- 32:20Speaker 2: his children.
- 32:21Speaker 1: I mean, surely you wouldn't be thrilled.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Also the fact that Tammy seems to insert herself into
- 32:26Speaker 2: Rhys Hawkins' relationships. Every time he's got a partner and
- 32:29Speaker 2: seems happy, suddenly she's there uploading TikToks of her out
- 32:32Speaker 2: and about on family days with him. And I mean,
- 32:35Speaker 2: it was quite fascinating when she also spoke about how
- 32:38Speaker 2: she doesn't think it's acceptable for people to like their
- 32:40Speaker 2: ex's photos when she's always liking his photos. Yeah, that's
- 32:43Speaker 2: because they did a bit of a Hembro mailbox and
- 32:45Speaker 2: they answered people's dating questions and her sisters were like, oh,
- 32:48Speaker 2: what do you think, Tammy? And I think her sisters
- 32:51Speaker 2: were quite surprised to hear that she was against it
- 32:52Speaker 2: because they were like, but don't you like his photos usually?
- 32:55Speaker 1: And she's like, no, no. She's like, no, no. When
- 32:57Speaker 1: I'm in a relationship, I think it's quite inappropriate to do.
- 33:01Speaker 1: But doesn't that just make it even worse?
- 33:03Speaker 2: It's like, oh, so you like them when you're single
- 33:05Speaker 2: because you liking Rhys Hawkins' photos is actually you flirting
- 33:09Speaker 2: with him.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Make it make sense.
- 33:11Speaker 2: I actually kind of feel a bit sorry for this kid, Grayson, though,
- 33:13Speaker 2: because As well as having to meet Rhys, he was
- 33:16Speaker 2: also almost moments away from meeting Matt Zukowski. It's like
- 33:19Speaker 2: this clout chasing is just not worth it.
- 33:22Speaker 1: This is so awkward.
- 33:24Speaker 2: So Tammy shared this story on both Inherited and also
- 33:27Speaker 2: Emily's podcast and she revealed that she ran into Matt
- 33:30Speaker 2: for the first time since the divorce at the Melbourne F1s,
- 33:33Speaker 2: which I thought was kind of ironic considering that whole
- 33:36Speaker 2: DM controversy at Glamour.
- 33:37Speaker 6: On the Grids.
- 33:37Speaker 1: What a full circle moment.
- 33:39Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 33:39Speaker 2: Well, she revealed that she was at the event with
- 33:41Speaker 2: her sisters and Grayson was supposed to be meeting her there.
- 33:44Speaker 2: And it was the first time he was going to
- 33:46Speaker 2: meet her sisters. Now, Tammy was at the event with
- 33:48Speaker 2: her sisters and Grayson was supposed to be meeting them there.
- 33:51Speaker 1: This is despite the.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Fact that they made it pretty clear that they were
- 33:54Speaker 2: not interested in meeting him. They said they don't want
- 33:56Speaker 2: to meet anyone for at least a year and they
- 33:57Speaker 2: have no interest in knowing or hearing about him.
- 34:00Speaker 1: Don't blame them. I mean, and can you imagine them?
- 34:02Speaker 2: Like they're standing there and this 23-year-old kid rocks up.
- 34:05Speaker 6: It's like, what?
- 34:06Speaker 2: It sounds like they actually quite like him now because
- 34:08Speaker 2: Emily said he was mature and said that it actually
- 34:10Speaker 2: had nothing to to do with him. She just wasn't
- 34:12Speaker 2: bothered to meet another boyfriend. Of course I have to
- 34:14Speaker 2: say that now. Like he's literally living at her house. Well,
- 34:17Speaker 2: to be fair, when she was dating Matt, they weren't
- 34:19Speaker 2: nice about him publicly.
- 34:20Speaker 1: No, no, exactly. I don't think they care about holding back.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Now, while Tammy was literally waiting for Grayson to arrive,
- 34:27Speaker 2: she felt this tap on her shoulder and was greeted
- 34:29Speaker 2: by her ex-husband.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Let's take a listen to.
- 34:31Speaker 2: What went down.
- 34:32Speaker 1: The Oakbury stand. which is really funny, actually bumped into us.
- 34:38Speaker 5: So I kind of feel bad for this. We're all
- 34:42Speaker 5: feeling bad about this situation. Like I got the tap
- 34:44Speaker 5: on the shoulder and he was like, hey, how are you?
- 34:47Speaker 5: And I literally just like burst out laughing. But it
- 34:50Speaker 5: was just because I was like unexpected like– Didn't know
- 34:54Speaker 5: what to do kind of thing.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought that was such a weird reaction from
- 34:56Speaker 1: you when I saw you.
- 34:57Speaker 2: I didn't know. I was like, what?
- 34:58Speaker 1: I was just like, it is like, oh, I just
- 35:00Speaker 1: didn't know. It's exactly what we just said you do
- 35:02Speaker 1: when you're like about to laugh. Yeah, I was really like,
- 35:04Speaker 1: just what the heck. So he bumps into us.
- 35:06Speaker 3: He says hello. We all said hello. You just laughed
- 35:08Speaker 3: and didn't say hello.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah, to your ex, did you?
- 35:11Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 35:11Speaker 1: I said hi. Did you? I think I said hi.
- 35:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 1: You laughed.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Then we turn around and Grayson said, like the timing,
- 35:20Speaker 3: you could have.
- 35:20Speaker 1: Not planned it. I just find Tammy's behaviour so immature.
- 35:23Speaker 2: Like this would have taken a lot of guts for
- 35:25Speaker 2: Matt Sikowski to go up to her and speak to her,
- 35:27Speaker 2: particularly because she was there with her sisters.
- 35:30Speaker 1: And all she can do is laugh in his face.
- 35:32Speaker 2: To be fair, she might not have been able to
- 35:34Speaker 2: help it.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Like, you know, when you feel so awkward.
- 35:37Speaker 2: Well, as she said before, she burst out laughing when
- 35:39Speaker 2: Grayson and Rhys met.
- 35:40Speaker 1: This is her go-to conversation.
- 35:42Speaker 2: As you say, Kate, though, I totally rate it from
- 35:43Speaker 2: Matt that he actually went up and said hello, because
- 35:45Speaker 2: I think that shows a big level of maturity. Do
- 35:48Speaker 2: you think there was an element of her laughing because
- 35:51Speaker 2: she's like, oh, I've won this situation. My hot new
- 35:53Speaker 2: toy boy is about to rock up. I've got my
- 35:55Speaker 2: ex-husband here going to.
- 35:56Speaker 1: See it all.
- 35:57Speaker 2: I reckon the laughter was more out of pure awkwardness
- 35:59Speaker 2: because it was awkward the fact that she already had
- 36:01Speaker 2: this new boyfriend and like her ex-husband is just standing there.
- 36:05Speaker 2: I think she was probably so shocked just to see him.
- 36:08Speaker 2: I mean, they As she said, they hadn't seen each
- 36:10Speaker 2: other since the breakup. But surely you'd be wondering if
- 36:13Speaker 2: he's going to be there. Like it's in Melbourne, his hometown.
- 36:16Speaker 2: He's got a profile. Of course he's going to be
- 36:18Speaker 2: invited to that event. I want to know what the
- 36:20Speaker 2: bystanders were thinking. Can you imagine being at this event
- 36:23Speaker 2: and you see Matt Zukowski approach Tammy Hembrough after all
- 36:26Speaker 2: of the stuff that's been in the news? I just
- 36:28Speaker 2: can't imagine how– Awful it would feel though for her
- 36:31Speaker 2: to laugh in your face. Like imagine going up to
- 36:32Speaker 2: your ex and just laughing in your face. And then
- 36:34Speaker 2: just turn around.
- 36:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 36:35Speaker 2: And he would have then probably seen from afar her
- 36:38Speaker 2: meeting up with Grayson. Yeah, because Tammy said that Grayson
- 36:41Speaker 2: and Matt were only a minute away from coming face
- 36:43Speaker 2: to face with each other. It seemed like things only
- 36:46Speaker 2: got more awkward because Grayson leaned in to give Tammy's
- 36:49Speaker 2: sister Amy a kiss on the cheek and say hello.
- 36:51Speaker 2: And Amy completely blanked him. She turned away from him.
- 36:54Speaker 2: She claimed it wasn't intentional and that she was in
- 36:57Speaker 2: mid-conversation with someone who from the brand at the event
- 37:00Speaker 2: and she didn't see him approach her. It gets worse
- 37:03Speaker 2: though because Grayson went in for round two. He tried
- 37:05Speaker 2: to speak to her again and give her a kiss
- 37:07Speaker 2: again and she turned away for a second time.
- 37:09Speaker 1: What was her excuse for that time?
- 37:10Speaker 2: Well, again.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Oh, she didn't like him. Well, she said again that
- 37:13Speaker 1: she didn't see it happening.
- 37:15Speaker 2: But this is coming off the back of both sisters
- 37:17Speaker 2: saying that they didn't want to meet him. I actually
- 37:19Speaker 2: feel sorry for Grayson in this situation because Tammy should
- 37:22Speaker 2: have just respected the fact that her sister didn't want
- 37:24Speaker 2: to meet him rather than forcing this situation. Emily said
- 37:28Speaker 2: that she just laughed at the situation and she thought
- 37:30Speaker 2: it was funny because they didn't want to meet him.
- 37:33Speaker 2: She said that Grayson didn't even attempt to try things
- 37:36Speaker 2: with her because she refused to look at him or
- 37:38Speaker 2: give him the chance to even say hello. God, how
- 37:41Speaker 2: intimidating would this be? Again, we're harping on the fact
- 37:44Speaker 2: that he's 23, but it just seems so young to me.
- 37:47Speaker 2: And then he's dealing with these high profile influencers who
- 37:50Speaker 2: are in their mid-30s, and it would just be so
- 37:54Speaker 2: awkward and intimidating. Well, I think that's all we've got
- 37:57Speaker 2: time for today. Thank you so much for listening to
- 37:59Speaker 2: another episode of Outspoken. If you did enjoy the podcast,
- 38:03Speaker 2: we would love if you could go and leave us
- 38:05Speaker 2: a five-star review as it really helps out the podcast.
