- Daniel: We are back. Welcome to the Talking Dogs. ⁓ it's Vanderbilt week. ⁓ Vanderbilt, just in a couple days at the time of this recording. He's Clint. I'm Daniel. Thanks so much for being here. So excited to have you, Clint, as we jump in ⁓ to our now our final, our final show before the Vanderbilt game. Give me one prediction. One, not a score prediction. I don't care about that. Whatever. I want one specific prediction. How is this game gonna play out? How do you see it going? Where does Georgia have the advantage? What do you expect to see on the field on Saturday afternoon between Georgia and Vandy? Look, I like doubling down on takes that I have, even if they're bad takes. Yes, he's nothing if not consistent, friends. But ⁓ sometimes the take I have, Valden Son. How It's right. How's that take looking from before the season where I said averaging fifteen snaps? Turns I unders I undersold the young man. Yeah. That's on me. He's a heavy rotation. First guy off the bench, Valden Sohn. Yeah. ⁓ he's an animal. I made a prediction before the season. Last week I saw something that I hadn't seen before. And this week context is lining up for me to make this double down. ⁓ Dwight Phillips is gonna lead this team in rushing this week. Not not maybe not rushing attempts. I Chauncey Bowens does get the rushing attempts. Goal line's gonna come into play a lot with that. But Dwight Phillips is going to lead this team in rushing. I think Nate Frazier is going to be, if healthy and there, ⁓ he's gonna be on a pitch count. I I I I don't think there's any chance Nate Frazier's not on a pitch count. He's he's banged up. Okay. There's a good chance he doesn't play at all. But there's no chance that he plays a regular load. No. Okay. ⁓ he's going to be on a pitch count. If he plays, I don't think it's gonna be that terribly much. I think he's gonna have a couple of good runs. I think we're gonna keep him honest with it. He's gonna prove himself. He's gonna go through the motions and it's gonna come out. Dwight Phillips is going to be that guy. I saw last week Mike Bobo dial up specific plays that countered what Oklahoma was doing with Dwight Phillips in the backfield. Now, could he have done that with Chauncey Bones? He could have. I I'm not on the headset. I don't know. But it's just curious to me that it was with Dwight Phillips in there, and they were very vastly different plays than when Chauncey's in there. Chauncey and they're both in between the tackles. Dwight Phillips is doing it between the it's not toss sweep. It's not student body left that we're doing this on. Okay? Yeah. This is counter, this is power, this is pin and pull all the way through with Dwight, and I think he's gonna have a very good game. I think he's gonna be the leading rusher. I don't think it's Chauncey Bowens that is. ⁓ Chauncey Bones might have the touchdowns. He might have two tuts. ⁓ fifteen carries for thirty five yards. Yep. That might be the sta Dwight Phillips might have eight carries for eighty nine yards. and if that's the case, I'm thrilled for it. That's my bull prediction for this game, Daniel. You know who else might have a Tud? Uh-huh. Zachai Helton. He might have d he's gonna get one this year. You take that to the bank. Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, Zachy Helpman. Yeah, these are the same type of people. They're the same per this is why the best defensive line coach in the last twenty years in the SEC actively tried to recruit him away from the offensive line to play defensive line. That's not a cute story. No, that's that that's what actually happened. Okay. ⁓ This is only for long time. Long time listeners. So what you're saying, Clint, is is that there's a dedicated playbook just for Chauncey Bowen. Is that what you're saying? Is it Because what I heard was and I want to clarify No, you didn't hear that. I want to clarify. There's a secret Chauncey Bowens only playbook. I was so hurt. I was so hurt that we were so bad. I it's called You Have Coping Skills and You Learn Them in Life. When somebody lies to you, you cope differently, and some people manifest fake narratives. Speaking of coping skills, it's Thursday afternoon at the time of this recording, and we're about to go to the Braids game tonight. So you want to talk to some people about some coping skills. We're going to need them. Grant Holmes is gonna be great. Okay. All right. All right. Hey, listen, we send out a newsletter on Wednesday. By the way, if you're not subscribed to the newsletter and you're here, get over there. Clint and I send out a ton of content each and every week through our free newsletter. It's between the banter.behive.com. B-E-E-H-I-N-E. IV. It's in the description of this video. And so you can just pop right over there if you happen to be listening on Spotify or Apple, ⁓ between the banter.beehive.com. Make sure that you get over there and are subscribed to the newsletter. We put out a call for a mailbag. And listen, we're not gonna have time to get to all of the mailbag responses that came in, and we apologize for that. We grossly underestimated how many there would be. And like I said, we're going to the Braves game, and so we we ain't got. Got time to just sit here all afternoon. Soon we are. But we deeply appreciate all of the ⁓ submissions and questions that we got. We're gonna hit some of the highlights here. So, Clint, I'm just gonna ask these to you as questions, un unscripted, unprompted, and I'm just gonna get your thoughts on them. Great, George Sutherland. Hey George. Lots of hype over ⁓ Chris Cole. Raylan Wilson seems to be getting less and less mentioned. How do you feel like he's played? How do you feel like his draft stock is doing this year? And is it as simple as he's being overshadowed by Chris Cole? ⁓ this is not a story of Raylan Wilson regressing and Chris Cole being the same or a little bit better. This is Chris Cole has decided to be the predator of all predators. Chris Cole has, you remember in Toy Story when they were chasing the truck. Okay. And they're on the little RC car. Yep. And it's a remote controlled car and it can't go as fast as a truck. It can't. And then they realize they have a rocket strapped to their back. And so they just light the little fuse on the rock. This is what Chris Cole has done this year. He He strapped a rocket to his back and just said, I'm off. It's meteoric what Chris Cole has done. Yeah. Rayland Wilson has steadily improved as well. He had, I think, eleven or twelve tackles last game, number of them TFL, number of chaos plays, fumble. Like he's there. This is simply put, Chris Cole taking over the SEC at linebacker. He he's such an important player, though, Raylan Wilson on this team. He's such an important player. You cannot say Ray Raylan Wilson is anything other than great. He is great. He is elite. It just so happens for him he's on a team with the most elite. ⁓ and that's what's happening right now. But no, they're they're both playing at insane levels. Clint, Holly Eubanks, we just ⁓ we just were talking about this in the car on the way over here. Do you would you rather see conference championship games stay or go long term? This is not your prediction of what's going to happen. Friends, conference championship games are about to go away. They're going away at some point within the next three years. They're going to go away. Do you know do you know why? Conferences are going away. The because the money is begging them to do differently. Yeah. Conference championship games are going away for the same reason that everything in the world happens all the time. Money. Money. But that's not what this that's not what Holly's asking. Do you would you rather with a nine game SEC schedule and college football playoffs potentially even being expanded, would you rather see Conference championship game stereo. Well, here's what's confusing to me about let me let me answer this. I don't want them to go away. I like conference championships. They promote competition during the season. Period. You want a path in the playoff, become a conference champion. You're guaranteed in. Be one of two, play games well. Like this is how it works. Okay. Secondly. What is college football doing that it's the only place in the world in which conferences don't have a conference champion? Like, we're soon gonna go there. NBA, conference champion. You play in the final. You that's you like you're divided up that way. college basketball. Yes, you get selected in the regions, but you have Automatic qualifiers for conference champions. Yeah, or divisions that they're called in that or whatever. Yeah. Okay. So like e everything, super regionals. College football is about to be the only place that doesn't have that, and that's confusing to me. It's just dumb. Yeah. ⁓ Clint, I'm gonna pull this next question. You should go over there and get that. That thing. Okay, yeah, I know what you're talking about. So we can talk about that. But I'm gonna talk to you just from across the room, about a question from ⁓ David Green, quarterback in the early two thousands, apparently fantasy show. That's who I that's ⁓ who I'm gonna assume is sending us this question. What is your biggest concern heading into the Bama game, which he's already bypassed, Vandy does not care, is not even remotely concerned. On offense and defense, your biggest concern on offense and defense of this team right now, specifically as it relates to the Alabama game, that's how I'm gonna assume David wants you to answer that question. ⁓ two things on offense. Caleb is a bad football coach. I'm not trying to piss you off, man. He is an exceptional play caller for athletic quarterbacks. He is he does that. Maybe better than anybody in the country. And I'm not like I'm not trying to throw shit. He's really good. He's shown track record of doing it, taking mediocre quarterbacks and making them aception. I think Keelon Russell's a very good quarterback. I'm not calling him meteoric. That's what's scary about this game. What's terrifying about this game is Calen Abor always has something up his sleeve for Georgia. We've seen it every single year that he's played. He's he's come out with something. Tackle screen into the boundary at the five yard line. Like, what are we doing? That's That's bananas, and he's willing to call it, he's willing to do it. I'm nervous about the offense that Keelan Russell is going to continue to have confidence, gonna continue playing at that elite level, and Kaylin Abor's gonna completion. We might get in a shootout in Tuscaloosa. ⁓ boy. That's nerve-wracking. I hate that. I'm not happy about that. Not happy about that. On defense, what I'm terrified about that is ⁓ their strength is defensive backs. Point blank. Yeah. I fear they can get after the pass rush a little bit. They can. And that's the good recipe. When you have defensive backs that make you hold on to the ball and you can get after a little bit, all of a sudden your pass rush goes up. Pass rush can help your defensive backs if you're deficient. Defensive backs can help your pass rush if it's deficient. If defensive backs are good, pass rush can get there. You hold up long enough in pass coverage. ⁓ I'm worried about Gunnar Stockton ⁓ getting hit in that game because the defensive backs are paying playing blake it coverage in the back end. Clint, we're gonna be in Athens this weekend, and we'd like to give you something. If you're gonna be in Athens this weekend, we got a little hat for you. We would love to see you. Listen, if you're a fan, if you're not a fan of the banter, this hat's not for you. It's not for you. It's just not your thing, and that's fine. Not everyone is gonna have is gonna have it. But if you're in Athens this weekend, We are gonna have one and exactly one of these hats to give away. And we're not gonna tell you where we're gonna be. Because quite frankly, we don't know where we're gonna be. We're gonna be in Athens. We don't know where. Time will tell. We're gonna be there. I'll tell you this, we're gonna be there early. And we're going to be there late. Okay? But the first person who finds us somewhere in Athens on Saturday at the Vandy game and says, Can I have a hat? The first person who asks us for a hat. ⁓ we will have a hat for it. Could be at 8 a.m. We got one, we got one hat that we are bringing that won't be on one of our sweaty heads. And I promise you, you do not want one of those. And if you do, we we're gonna file a restraining order. We don't want to know you. Yeah. So I we'll have one hat for you. make sure that you're subscribed to the newsletter. That's point number one. So between the banter.behive dot com, go subscribe to the newsletter. That's a qualification for we're gonna check. Checking our work. So ⁓ but just find us in Athens and ⁓ ask us for one of these banter hats. And then if you're not the lucky person that gets one of these banter hats, don't worry, next week we will have them available for mass consumption to the general public. And so if you're interested in one of these hats, you can let us know and we will make sure that we ⁓ find a way. To ⁓ get you the information on one. Okay, Clint. It's a good looking hat. It's a great way. This is my favorite hat that I have. It's a I don't know who designed it, but seems like an attractive guy. He's a very good, very attractive man. ⁓ Amanda Gordon, Clint, Jared Curtis is on Vandy and Yuri Report as questionable. Thoughts on that? I asked ⁓ a friend of ours who's a Corey Burton who does some great work covering Vandy. I asked him about this. ⁓ and he said there's a 0.0% chance that ⁓ that Jared Curtis doesn't play in this game. So that's I mean, he's probably dinged up. He did carry the ball a lot last week against Auburn. He did take some hits. He's a big dude. Yeah. But there's that. ⁓ Amanda is saying with Nate Frazier also. Questionable on the injury report. Do you want to see him on Saturday? Or would you rather protect him and keep him as healthy as possible for Alabama? thoughts on that? This early in the season, my instinct, Clint, is to say, I get the logic, but this early in the season, I think I'd rather guys get into a rhythm than. Try to protect them from injury. You just can't protect a guy from injury. It's now, if Georgia has everything locked up and a game is absolutely meaningless to end the season and it doesn't mean anything, yeah, maybe we arrest some guys or whatever. Like that's fine. But at this point of the season, Clint, I would say you play the guys that can play. So Isaiah Canyon, Nate Frazier, if they're available to go. I'd like to see him go. Do you disagree? ⁓ Kirby Smart has a philosophy with players. If you're good enough to play, he's going to play you. Yeah. And he's you're you're going to be inserted in a lineup at the moments that he needs you and he's gonna go. Okay. Period. If you're not good enough to play, guess what? You don't play. Yeah. If Nate Frazier is good to go, I want to see him play. I don't want to be like, ⁓ well, he could go. So Kirby's paper thing is like, if we needed him to go, he could have gone. What he's saying by that. That is we he wasn't he couldn't go. He couldn't go. Just period. I want Nate Frazier in. I want him getting a lather. I want him getting the work. Because at running back, once you start feeling it, It is a whole unit to try to stop afterwards. And getting hit and playing scared is not something you do. At running back, you have to take those consecutive contact hits to keep going in the league. So yes, I want to see him play. It's a lather. It's a lather thing. All right, we got time for one more. Again, sorry, if you responded to our ⁓ newsletter and and sent us a question, ⁓ we apologize. We just only had so many ⁓ time for so many. ⁓ keep sending those mailbag questions in. We would we'll we'll be happy to get to as many of them every week as We can we love the interaction, we love talking about the things that you guys want to talk about. So, from Holly Blink, ⁓ I think I'm saying that right. Who knows? It seems to me that in games this season, Georgia starts off strong and then fades a little bit in the second half, which seems to be inconsistent with how we've seen this Georgia team perform in previous years, seemingly getting stronger as the game goes on. Doesn't feel like that's the case with this team. Will this be an issue? This is Holly's question. Will this be Be an issue when we play some better competition and some more complete teams. Do you are you worried about that coming back to bite Georgia? The only thing I'm worried about is it was Oklahoma that I really care about. All the rest of the games, we literally had threes in. Fourth string. Yeah. So no, I those those guys aren't gonna play against Alabama. Period. Full stop. They won't play at all. Oklahoma was interesting because we were flat coming out of half. Yeah. Punts, the offense was anemic. Defense held its own, but that's where it's all of a sudden just that whole third quarter was just flat all the way across. I think, and this is what we tried to even say, like nervous leading up to it, Oklahoma's a team. Brynn Vidal's a good coach. Sure. Defensively, he made the adjustments. I think that was tip tip the cap to Oklahoma. If it happens again, I'm real nervous. I don't think it will. That was Brent Venables making some adjustments. I tipped my cap to him. Do you disagree? I don't disagree, but I do understand the premise of like, let's say Georgia gets all, you know, 17 points at halftime to Alabama. Well, when you play a team that can score 21 points and a half, right? Like Oklahoma literally was not capable of scoring enough points to win that game. It was 28 to nothing at halftime. That game was over. Game gone. Game was over. When you play a team a team like Alabama, for example, next week that is capable of scoring those points in the second half, you can't just come out and lay an egg in the second half, or else you might lose that game. Gas has to be you are liable to lose that game. Correct. Just look at the game last year against Alabama. Alabama jumped out all over Georgia in the first half. And then Georgia came out and pitched a shutout in the second half and should have won the game. But That's the kind of thing that can happen when you're playing an elite competition. Alabama just choked that game away. They absolutely did, Holly, what you're describing, seeing from Georgia. If Georgia comes out and does something like that against a good team, yeah. It can absolutely bite us. I do think there's some about some level of this that's like, it's the two, it's the twos and threes. I'm not as worried about it. But that third quarter against Oklahoma, if you come out completely dead flat in the second half against a team, that's not a recipe for winning football long term in the SEC. All right. He's Clint, I'm Daniel. Thanks so much for being here, part of the Talking Dogs ⁓ podcast. We are so excited to have you. If you're still here, first of all, thank you for still being here. Appreciate it. This is unbelievable that you're 19 minutes into this episode. Two things. One, make sure you're subscribed to the newsletter. And then two, make sure you subscribe to the channel. And then three, find us in Athens ⁓ on Saturday and ask for a hat. Pick yourself up a hat. ⁓ we'll see you guys hopefully on Saturday. But if not, ⁓ we will see you guys all the rest of the of the season covering this Georgia football team. And we'll talk to you then. See ya.
