- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Before sophisticated production.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Before Miss Claire.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: And even before me, Johnny.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: That's right, we're going to play for you the very first Stephen Jeff Show.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: And as is befitting of such a classic, we will present it with no additional material.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Just the way it aired back before time began.
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: So set your smartphones for the distant past.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Here is the very first Steve and Jeff Show.
- 0:50SPEAKER_01: Hey everybody, welcome to the very first episode of the Steve and Jeff Experience.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: I'm Steve.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: Hey, I'm Jeff.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: Hey, and this is the experience that you've been waiting for.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: We are going to have the best podcast around.
- 1:04SPEAKER_01: There's no UFC fighter comedian that's going to do better than us, right, Jeff?
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, I think so.
- 1:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, this is our first one ever, but I think it's gonna be the best.
- 1:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, I'm sure it's gonna be crazy successful.
- 1:19SPEAKER_01: I'm looking forward to it.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: This will certainly be the best in this series so far.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, right?
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Yes, yes, you're right.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: And and oh, oh yeah, no, no, go ahead, go ahead.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah, no, you first.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: Yeah, no, really, you go first.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, really, you no, come on.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: Uh well, anyways, anyway, so we sort of this is our first podcast.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: Uh Steve and I have known each other for 50 years.
- 1:47SPEAKER_02: Um, yeah, and uh Yeah, we're old, man.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:51SPEAKER_02: Really old.
- 1:52SPEAKER_02: Gas was a nickel, gas was four dollars back then.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Now nickels were five cents back then.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: I remember anyways.
- 2:00SPEAKER_02: I'm looking forward to it.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: And I I know that you know, down the road, I guess you know, when we become super popular and celebrities, we're gonna have a lot of really cool people on the show for interviews.
- 2:14SPEAKER_02: But you know what, Steve?
- 2:16SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of cool people that are just heroes in themselves that are not, you know, on People Magazine.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, I'm glad you said that, Jeff, because we have in our studio tonight, we have a guest that's a fabulous guest.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Now, maybe not a celebrity, but what a fantastic guest.
- 2:35SPEAKER_01: I brought in my own psychiatrist.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: I didn't know you went to a psychiatrist.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh, I thought I told you.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Oh, oh well, yeah, no, but for years.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: I mean, let's see, we've known each other 50 years.
- 2:47SPEAKER_01: I've been going to psychiatrists but about 50 years.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: So well, I'm not her.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: I mean, she's a bit old.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm surprised, but I'm really not surprised.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: So, anyways, but I'm excited.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna talk about all kinds of cool stuff.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, let's bring her on.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: Hey, Doctor, how are you doing?
- 3:05SPEAKER_03: Hi, thank you very much for having me on today.
- 3:08SPEAKER_03: Hey, Doctor, welcome to our show.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: Maybe introduce yourself and let the audience know who you are and what you do.
- 3:15SPEAKER_03: I'm Dr.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Donna Fields, and I work as a psychologist.
- 3:21SPEAKER_03: Um, I'm not going to talk at all about our sessions or anything, but I do like to uh help people to find their truth and to find their comfort.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: Well, and yeah, Doctor, that would be that would be a big problem to talk about the sessions on a podcast like this, wouldn't it?
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: That would be that's bad.
- 3:42SPEAKER_03: If you hadn't mentioned that I'm your your your your doctor, I would not have said anything.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Wow, that's great.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: So so Doctor, just a kind of some clarification, because I know a lot of people get confused with this.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: So you're a psychiatrist or a psychologist?
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: I am a psychologist.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: Oh, so you don't administer drugs?
- 4:03SPEAKER_03: I don't.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: I don't.
- 4:05SPEAKER_03: Um, I get the drugs elsewhere.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: No, I oh good.
- 4:09SPEAKER_03: I I will work with a psychiatrist when necessary, but I don't actually write the prescriptions myself.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: You get the drugs from from Tony.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: You know Tony.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: That's what I was gonna ask you.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, you know.
- 4:22SPEAKER_02: So cool.
- 4:23SPEAKER_02: Um, and uh you went to medical school.
- 4:28SPEAKER_02: I'm kind of confused here.
- 4:29SPEAKER_02: You're are you a real doctor or are you uh like a you know, like a like a paralegal or a veterinarian, you know, not real doctor, but you know, but still still valuable, yeah, like an optometrist, right?
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: Or like an optometrist, exactly.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Or like a dermatologist, right?
- 4:45SPEAKER_03: Psychology from NYU.
- 4:49SPEAKER_01: Wow, that's a good school.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: Wow, psychology from NYU.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I you know, I didn't know that.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: Maybe that that's that diploma on your wall, the purple and yeah, okay.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: All right, yeah.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: So look at that.
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: I don't want to say, wow.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: I I don't want to violate any confidentiality issues, but what's wrong with Steve?
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, this is just a short podcast.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: I don't know if she's got that time, you know.
- 5:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, what do you think, doc?
- 5:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, I figured you were you were asking Steve that question.
- 5:18SPEAKER_03: Uh as I said, I I I wouldn't be able to divulge that.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 5:23SPEAKER_01: Well, well, you know, you know, Doctor, do you have a do you have a a specialty in psychology?
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: Is there a particular area that really you like to work in or you or you really feel feel good working in?
- 5:34SPEAKER_03: I am actually a generalist.
- 5:36SPEAKER_03: I have not chosen a direct path.
- 5:39SPEAKER_03: I think that sometimes the path chooses the person.
- 5:43SPEAKER_03: And my path hasn't chosen me yet.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: I love that.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: So that's why I go to her.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: The path chooses the person.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 5:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's really cool.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: So you're not gonna share any information specifically about Steve, but just in what about other people?
- 6:01SPEAKER_02: Any other celebrities that you may like be counseling that you could like you don't even have to say their last names, just like are there celebrities that you've had in the past?
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: That would probably be okay because you know they're not here.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, I could see that you wouldn't want her to talk about me because I'm here, right?
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: But for sure, yeah.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Let's say, oh, I don't know, like a film star, for example.
- 6:24SPEAKER_01: Film star's not here, right?
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: She could talk about him, right?
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: Or, right?
- 6:28SPEAKER_03: If there were a film star in my care, there is not a film star in my care.
- 6:34SPEAKER_03: I I would love for there to be a film star in my care, but there isn't.
- 6:38SPEAKER_03: I have no film stars in my care.
- 6:40SPEAKER_03: However, as we've discussed, I do have a podcast host in my care, and that's wonderful.
- 6:46SPEAKER_03: I am so proud of you.
- 6:47SPEAKER_03: I'm so proud of you for getting this off the ground.
- 6:50SPEAKER_03: You've been talking about it, and uh, and it's it's very exciting.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: Oh, thanks.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: You said that you said you have a podcast host.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Is that Joe Rogan?
- 7:00SPEAKER_02: No names.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, sorry.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Sorry.
- 7:02SPEAKER_02: Is it somebody's experience?
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Well, that's ours.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: The Steve the Jeff experience, yeah.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: It is unfortunate though that we can't that we can't like get a more of an intimate look at what you do.
- 7:16SPEAKER_02: You know, it's it's great that you're telling us, but it would be nice.
- 7:20SPEAKER_03: I mean, let's let's actually let's just have a moment here.
- 7:24SPEAKER_03: Just us.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: You you get to decide if you share this, right?
- 7:28SPEAKER_03: So let's do an exercise.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Wow, cool.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: This is what the sessions are like.
- 7:37SPEAKER_01: This is why I go.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: See, this is cool.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: I know, very cool.
- 7:41SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: I want you to envision yourself in a room.
- 7:49SPEAKER_03: Describe that room.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Well, it's it's got four walls and a window and a door.
- 7:59SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: Uh mine is a it has a toilet and a shower and a sink.
- 8:10SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: You could be in the same room, you don't know the way you've described it.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: Is that is that you?
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, wait, I think we are in the same room.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: She is good.
- 8:24SPEAKER_03: Because very interestingly, your studio does have a toilet and a sink in it.
- 8:30SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm I'm impressed.
- 8:33SPEAKER_01: Well, we're just world guys, we can never be too far from that stuff, you know what I mean?
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm really impressed with you.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, doctor, I can call you doctor, is that right?
- 8:43SPEAKER_03: Of course, yes.
- 8:44SPEAKER_02: Okay, okay, good.
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, I'm impressed.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: Anything else, uh you know, you want to share, Steve?
- 8:51SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah, you know, I was gonna ask, I mean, I understand that you can't really divulge names of of patients you're seeing, but I know in say in our sessions, for example, I know that you really you do a lot of guided imagery.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Is that do you do that with all your patients?
- 9:07SPEAKER_03: I do.
- 9:08SPEAKER_03: I well, I mean, you know, when it comes to that point in the in the process for sure, guided imagery is is is a very useful tool for for finding your path, for finding the path that's finding you.
- 9:23SPEAKER_01: Is there is is there one patient in particular, maybe that was really a little, I don't know, dare I say a little crazy with the guided imaging that was was doing something a little weird that would be funny, you know.
- 9:36SPEAKER_03: Are you talking about our session?
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: Well, maybe was there somebody other than me, but but maybe me.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: Could be me.
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: In school, when we were doing sessions with other therapists, there was somebody who, and I don't know if it was because he was trying to make it interesting for me, or if it genuinely was something to be approached.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: The guided imagery went off the rails.
- 10:07SPEAKER_03: It really did.
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: Um, we went to the zoo, we got uh uh a popcorn, we saw elephants, and then we went into a tunnel, and then in the tunnel we uh were we encountered a troll um who is working the tunnel instead of the bridge.
- 10:27SPEAKER_03: It was very interesting.
- 10:28SPEAKER_03: It it was it was a very interesting guided imagery.
- 10:33SPEAKER_02: Was it hard for you to keep a straight face when people are explaining that stuff to you?
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: That just sounds really weird to me.
- 10:40SPEAKER_03: I think the important thing to do is not see it as weird.
- 10:44SPEAKER_03: I mean, you have to just divorce yourself from judgment completely.
- 10:48SPEAKER_03: And and it only comes to mind right now because because you're saying something that's out of the ordinary.
- 10:55SPEAKER_03: It was out of the ordinary.
- 10:56SPEAKER_03: I I don't think it was wrong or bad.
- 10:59SPEAKER_03: I think it was it was just interesting.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: I I I gotta ask, you were doing this is when you were having sessions with other other doctors, other psychiatrists.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: Was this was that Dr.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Adler by any chance?
- 11:13SPEAKER_03: I'm not I'm not going to do that.
- 11:16SPEAKER_01: Because I I used to go to Dr.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Adler and he talked about zoos and trolls.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Man, it drove me nuts.
- 11:22SPEAKER_01: Every day he's talking about zoos and trolls.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: So I tell you, hear this.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Oh, that's got to be him.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: It's Richard Adler.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: That's Richard Adler, isn't it?
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:29SPEAKER_03: All right, yeah, it's it's Richard Adler.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: See, I knew it was, yeah.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: Oh, this this guy's this guy's amazing.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: This guy wears like a black and white striped shirt, like he's got the whole zebra thing.
- 11:42SPEAKER_03: That's because he works part-time at the Foot Locker.
- 11:44SPEAKER_01: So don't yeah, and he's a ref in quotes, you know.
- 11:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, right.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: Does he does he suffer from like zebra envy?
- 11:55SPEAKER_02: That's you know, I just wanted to get that in there because you know I think a zebra has horse envy, maybe.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know, you know.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: Oh, that's right.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: You might be right about that.
- 12:03SPEAKER_02: So I know there's a confidentiality issue here um about talking about other people.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: And clearly, uh Doc, you have been uh you've been great, you've been very professional.
- 12:14SPEAKER_02: But if a patient were to share information, that would be appropriate, wouldn't it?
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: If they want to share it about themselves?
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: A self-disclosure is absolutely fine.
- 12:28SPEAKER_03: I'm I'm perfectly okay with self-disclosure.
- 12:31SPEAKER_03: You know, as long as all parties involved are are aware and uh and and the discussion is is not breaching anybody's trust.
- 12:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, I'm I'm glad you said that, uh, Doctor, because um, you know, I don't know if I I don't know if you know this, but um I I sometimes have I have a little example of one of our sessions.
- 12:55SPEAKER_03: An example?
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: You know, I I was in there and it was really I was gonna disclose something really big that you had been talking to me about for a long time and I was really reluctant to disclose, but I I was gonna do it and I thought, well, you know, this is kind of a momentous event.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: I'm starting a podcast soon.
- 13:12SPEAKER_01: Maybe maybe I'll I'll I'll just record this.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: So I I I recorded here.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: I we can listen to it right now.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: I I'll play it right now if you want.
- 13:19SPEAKER_01: Uh you recorded our session?
- 13:23SPEAKER_01: Well, just yeah, a little bit of it.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: I didn't record the whole thing because you know, at the end I I turned it off because you said when right before you said, you know, you haven't paid me in six weeks.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: I because I know I know, I know.
- 13:33SPEAKER_01: But I so I tried I didn't record that, but uh but I recorded a little bit of it, kind of a cool part of it.
- 13:40SPEAKER_01: Well, here, here, I'll play it for you.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: I'd like to hear it.
- 13:43SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, let's play it.
- 13:44SPEAKER_01: You know, doctor, you asked me if I had any attractions.
- 13:50SPEAKER_01: I gotta tell you about one.
- 13:57SPEAKER_01: Well my mom.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: I think my mom thought it was a little weird, but oh man.
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: That's hard.
- 14:56SPEAKER_03: It's hard.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: It's hard for the thing to be the right way.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: So yeah, that was that was actually the session.
- 15:01SPEAKER_01: That was an actual session.
- 15:03SPEAKER_03: I I I still can't believe you recorded our session.
- 15:06SPEAKER_03: That's a severe breach of trust.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: Oh, well, but I I thought it was really good and I thought it was compelling.
- 15:14SPEAKER_02: It's the kind of stuff that people want to hear.
- 15:16SPEAKER_02: So I yeah, I don't know if it was on Joe Rogan, would he have that kind of stuff?
- 15:22SPEAKER_02: I I don't know.
- 15:23SPEAKER_03: I'm not a doctor like you, but I imagine Joe Rogan would similarly have breached the trust of his doctor.
- 15:31SPEAKER_03: And I'm I'm thoroughly this is completely unprofessional.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: This is completely unacceptable.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: Recording one of our sessions, I can't believe this.
- 15:41SPEAKER_03: And and you know, it it really is something I tell you not to judge, but I will judge you for this because you broke our trust.
- 15:50SPEAKER_03: Oh that is something to be judged.
- 15:52SPEAKER_02: Oh wow, that's harsh.
- 15:55SPEAKER_02: But but but you know what?
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Can I just respond to to the uh to the audio just for a second?
- 16:01SPEAKER_02: Steve, you're a fucking freak.
- 16:03SPEAKER_02: I can't believe it.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: But but in fairness, in fairness, I had an Acura that had it looked like a person, like the the the lights in the back, and it and I could see how you would look at certain cards, and I don't know that model that you have, but I don't know.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: I I didn't think it was I thought it was freaky, but but good.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: You know, we met when we were still kids, and you you remember my I think my mom still had that Impala.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: You remember?
- 16:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I remember.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was hot.
- 16:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was used to like stand next to it and say, Yeah, I'll I'll wash the car.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm good.
- 16:40unknown: All right.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Is that the car that hit your mom in the driveway?
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Oh no, that's a different one.
- 16:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, okay, yeah.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Well, doc, you know that that I mean, does that mean it was a breach of trust?
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: Does that mean like I can't come see you anymore?
- 16:55SPEAKER_03: Not only can't you come see me anymore, but you couldn't get an Impala.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: Oh man.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: Inadequacy is coming back.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: It never really was that far away, but now it's coming back big time.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: Well, I gosh, I I I don't know if I can go on.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: I I maybe maybe we should end this one and we'll we'll do another podcast.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: I I don't know, man.
- 17:24SPEAKER_02: Well, well, doc, you're always welcome back.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Uh I thought this was fascinating.
- 17:29SPEAKER_02: You were you were you were great, and uh what a great first interview, huh, Steve?
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Uh yeah, I you know I I'm I think I'm I'm gonna see if the Chevy dealer is still open.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna I'm gonna head over there, I think.
- 17:40SPEAKER_01: But uh but yeah, listen, thanks, Doc.
- 17:42SPEAKER_01: And uh listen, Jeff.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: Hey, we will do another podcast.
- 17:45SPEAKER_01: Ladies and gentlemen, you turn back in when we have another podcast, probably uh, I don't know, what do you think next week?
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, absolutely.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, whatever we do one.
- 17:53SPEAKER_02: Looking forward to it.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Very cool, very cool.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Thanks, everybody.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Thanks, Doc.
