- 0:12SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend, welcome to today's episode of the Daily Rider Podcast.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: Some 4,500 years ago, tens of thousands of Egyptian workers descended upon the Giza Plateau to begin a massive construction project the likes of which the world had never seen.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: They used rudimentary tools to cut limestone and granite blocks from an adjacent quarry as well as other sites that required them to float blocks down the Nile River.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Each of those stone blocks weighed an average of two and a half tons and was transported to the building site with great human effort.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Over a period of 20 years, workers placed 2.3 million blocks of stone with such accuracy that it still confounds scientists today.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Known as the Great Pyramid of Giza, it is the only wonder of the ancient world that still survives today.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: When you consider a project of this scope and magnitude, it almost seems impossible.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: I mean, yes, ancient Egypt had a huge number of workers as well as detailed plan for how to get the work done, but how did they actually build the pyramids?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Well, the way that they did it was they built it one block at a time.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And you can borrow this principle for your writing or any type of project for that matter.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: You take it piece by piece and you keep repeating the work.
- 1:27SPEAKER_00: You keep showing up and doing it, and pretty soon, after you've placed block after block after block, you have a finished product.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: Success as a writer doesn't have to be complicated.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: In fact, the very simplicity of writing success is why so many people end up quitting.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: They can't handle the focus and the discipline that's required to actually finish something.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: But you you must be different.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: You must stay the course and you must commit to finishing what you've started.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: You can build whatever you want in this life if you just take it one block at a time.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Here's today's question.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: Does the idea of taking it one block at a time feel comforting, or does it feel frustrating?
- 2:07SPEAKER_00: And if so, why?
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for listening to today's episode.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: If you've been listening to this show for any length of time, you know that one of the four practices of a great writer is creativity.
