- 0:00Speaker 1: Football four powered by the Inside of the Birds podcast.
- 0:02Speaker 1: It is brought to you by the Fanatic Sports Book
- 0:05Speaker 1: in Ocean Casino Resort in Atlantic City. Adam Kaplan's here today.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Don't forget you could get the Football at four excuse me,
- 0:12Speaker 1: the Inside of the Burns podcast on all podcasting platforms,
- 0:16Speaker 1: and of course Football at four daily here on the
- 0:20Speaker 1: Sports Bash. Adam Kaplan's here today or the bye week.
- 0:23Speaker 1: We got a lot of things to kind of look
- 0:25Speaker 1: at the Eagles offense coming out of the win against
- 0:29Speaker 1: the New York Football Giants. Heard from Kevin Bintulo earlier today.
- 0:32Speaker 1: One of the things they got going, Adam Kaplan in
- 0:35Speaker 1: that is the run game. So let's take a look
- 0:38Speaker 1: at the offense coming out of that Giants game and
- 0:40Speaker 1: hol it put up thirty eight points with no Aj Brown.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Yeah, Mike, Yeah, I would listen to you earlier. I mean,
- 0:48Speaker 2: just some one thing. We haven't even addressed any potential
- 0:50Speaker 2: trade of AJ Brown on our show because we're not
- 0:52Speaker 2: going to you're trying to win a Super Bowl. Yes,
- 0:54Speaker 2: they actually have a very good shot to get back there.
- 0:57Speaker 2: There are no dominant teams in the NFL right now.
- 1:00Speaker 2: In the NFC, you know the lines and Packers are
- 1:02Speaker 2: very good, which is funny because the next two opponents
- 1:06Speaker 2: are the Packers aligned for the Eagles coming out of
- 1:08Speaker 2: the buy. But you know, the Eagles could go on
- 1:10Speaker 2: another run here. So look they're trying to get back.
- 1:12Speaker 2: So it's it's not a discussion, it's not. But coming
- 1:17Speaker 2: out of this game, Mike, it was interesting. For the
- 1:18Speaker 2: second straight game you're seeing Jalen Hurts under center. Look,
- 1:21Speaker 2: it's not like they didn't do it last year. They
- 1:23Speaker 2: did it with Kellen Moore. It's a change up. It's
- 1:25Speaker 2: a change up. It's not fully what they do, by
- 1:28Speaker 2: the way, which greco Sell sent me his notes, and
- 1:32Speaker 2: what I thought interesting is all but one play, Mike,
- 1:35Speaker 2: they ran the football with Hurts under center, which is interesting.
- 1:38Speaker 2: You know they you always do play action out of it.
- 1:41Speaker 2: But we'll see if they coming out of it. They
- 1:45Speaker 2: want to diversify that a little bit. But yeah, it's
- 1:47Speaker 2: a change up, Mike. You know, people overreacted to Patullo.
- 1:51Speaker 2: I get that the offense was inconsistent, didn't look chrisp
- 1:56Speaker 2: didn't look on time, and now it's looking much better.
- 1:58Speaker 2: The pass pro has been hung you every week. It's
- 2:00Speaker 2: just been it's been phenomenal. The run blocking up to
- 2:04Speaker 2: this game, it's been most mostly pathetic. Now this this game, Mike,
- 2:07Speaker 2: the run blocking was great. The start of the game,
- 2:10Speaker 2: Mic was Brett toath. I mean, I don't know how
- 2:12Speaker 2: whether this came from he's mostly been poor before this game.
- 2:17Speaker 2: This game was something that there were a lot of
- 2:19Speaker 2: things that happened, Mike. You you just cannot predict, but
- 2:22Speaker 2: a lot of things turn out pretty well, and that's
- 2:23Speaker 2: why they had their best offensive output.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean you take a look at Hurts under center.
- 2:29Speaker 1: They ran pretty much all day. They had the pass protection.
- 2:33Speaker 1: When they did throw the ball twenty times, guys were open.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I mean, guys were wide open to Vonte Smith was
- 2:40Speaker 1: wide open. They had some well designed pass plays to
- 2:43Speaker 1: Dallas Goddard. You know, Hurts and Goddard, they got to
- 2:45Speaker 1: go in there. So you also saw that that run
- 2:48Speaker 1: game did what it did last year. It's set up
- 2:50Speaker 1: the pass and guys were open.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it is interesting with with god her and and Hurts.
- 2:58Speaker 2: We saw this in training camp and we've been kind
- 3:01Speaker 2: of fooled in the password. Got it whatever, great summer.
- 3:03Speaker 2: It's not his fault. Hurts would just not throw the
- 3:05Speaker 2: ball to him when he was open, didn't see him. Well,
- 3:08Speaker 2: they'd take another step in their chemistry. Got it now
- 3:10Speaker 2: tied for fourth in the NFL in total reception and
- 3:13Speaker 2: receiving touchdowns with any position with five other players. So
- 3:17Speaker 2: he's in good company, Mike. He's had it for every
- 3:21Speaker 2: in every statistical category. He's had it for a career
- 3:23Speaker 2: highs if he could just stay healthy. So he's having
- 3:26Speaker 2: a very good season. He caught all three targets, two
- 3:30Speaker 2: of them were touchdowns and let by the way, another
- 3:32Speaker 2: thing you talked about their passing game and how they
- 3:33Speaker 2: were wide open. This one was not wide open, but
- 3:36Speaker 2: hurts through it anyway. This is the commidances that hurts
- 3:38Speaker 2: us in his arm. The pass that to Dotson could
- 3:41Speaker 2: have been picked off, but jiff John Dotson the only
- 3:45Speaker 2: catch of the day and was for a touchdown. The
- 3:47Speaker 2: forty yard catch over the kid that they moved from
- 3:51Speaker 2: their practice squad. The Giants did a corner. I mean,
- 3:55Speaker 2: Dotson did a phenomenal job, Mike. That was big time
- 3:57Speaker 2: and look the efforts great and Barkley had we mentioned him.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Barkley had his best game of the season by far.
- 4:03Speaker 2: We've been Ford a little bit. In the last couple
- 4:05Speaker 2: of games were like, Okay, he'd have a couple of good runs.
- 4:07Speaker 2: We're like, okay, here we go, and then they wouldn't
- 4:08Speaker 2: do anything after that. But not so in this game
- 4:10Speaker 2: he was phenomenal, including the space run that he had
- 4:15Speaker 2: and then the other takeaway Mike, we'll talk more about this.
- 4:18Speaker 2: I'll be back Thursday that Friday. This week, Gander and
- 4:20Speaker 2: I are switching, but we'll talk more about this on
- 4:22Speaker 2: the self scout. Tank Bixby has finally got a meaningful
- 4:25Speaker 2: role here, and wow, was he special in this game.
- 4:28Speaker 2: He was exactly what coaches talked about in a change
- 4:30Speaker 2: up to Barkley. Really good contrast for running style.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and obviously they gave up some picks to get him,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and he finally showed why they liked his role in
- 4:39Speaker 1: the offense. He had over one hundred yards rushing in
- 4:42Speaker 1: the game as well, so it wasn't just a Saquell
- 4:45Speaker 1: Barkley thing. In the run game. You also had over
- 4:47Speaker 1: one hundred yards from Tank Bigsby in the game. So
- 4:49Speaker 1: the offense looks Chris. How about the defense in this
- 4:53Speaker 1: game because they got bullied and pushed around the first
- 4:56Speaker 1: time against the Giants and Jordan Davis.
- 4:59Speaker 2: He's made continue to improvement. He's had a couple of
- 5:02Speaker 2: games where you would scratch her head. This season out
- 5:06Speaker 2: that he's been really, really good behind the scenes. We've
- 5:10Speaker 2: noted before that he would talk a big game but
- 5:12Speaker 2: not prove it. It's here four. He's becoming a little
- 5:16Speaker 2: bit of a better pass rusher. That's important because when
- 5:19Speaker 2: you trade up in the first round for a defensive tackle,
- 5:21Speaker 2: the guys could be a pass rusher. He's getting better
- 5:23Speaker 2: at that. He'll never be an elite pass rusher, but
- 5:26Speaker 2: he's making a special place every game. He's much better
- 5:28Speaker 2: physical shape. Watch tomorrow's inside the Table and Inside the Berth.
- 5:32Speaker 2: We outline one of the really good plays by Davis. Yeah,
- 5:37Speaker 2: the defensive line was really good. Carter looked healthier in
- 5:40Speaker 2: this game. There's no question about he's become a bigger factor.
- 5:43Speaker 2: He's not quite where he was last season. He's not close,
- 5:45Speaker 2: but he's getting there. Mic he's improving now. You know
- 5:49Speaker 2: he's getting healthier. The big stories na Kobe Dean playing
- 5:53Speaker 2: more snaps in Campbell. We don't have a direct answer,
- 5:57Speaker 2: and Vic Fansher kind of discussed it. He didn't really like.
- 6:02Speaker 2: He didn't really give why it happened, and we talked
- 6:05Speaker 2: about that. Campbell still, no matter what people think, he's
- 6:09Speaker 2: not lining up as an edge rusher. When he lines
- 6:12Speaker 2: up on the edge, it does an ad in defender
- 6:15Speaker 2: against the run. He's not rushing the passer. It still
- 6:18Speaker 2: may happen right now. They don't think he's ready for it.
- 6:22Speaker 2: He's playing really inside backer. That's really what his position
- 6:25Speaker 2: is with with a little bit when they want to
- 6:27Speaker 2: when they play the five man front, you'll see him
- 6:28Speaker 2: lining up outside. But he's he's Dean now has cut
- 6:32Speaker 2: into his reps. They're they're they're listen, they're working on this.
- 6:34Speaker 2: They they've never played together before. This is sort of
- 6:36Speaker 2: a quagmire. Anders got to figure it out. But it's
- 6:39Speaker 2: a good problem to have. There two very good football players.
- 6:43Speaker 2: And you know, for Na Kobe, the great story Mike
- 6:45Speaker 2: is he looks healthy. We didn't know the Eagles didn't know.
- 6:48Speaker 2: They knew by the scenes he looked good, but they
- 6:50Speaker 2: didn't know to he played how he would do. And
- 6:52Speaker 2: he looks really good right now.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Oh, there's no question about it. I mean, like, uh,
- 6:56Speaker 1: you see Dean and back on the field in earlier
- 6:59Speaker 1: you thinking like there's no way he could be the
- 7:01Speaker 1: same player that he was last year because that injury
- 7:02Speaker 1: had was pretty gruesome. And he comes back from that,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and he's been all over the field the last really
- 7:07Speaker 1: last two weeks since he's gotten a majority of the
- 7:11Speaker 1: snaps thirty snaps for him, twenty one for Campbell. But
- 7:14Speaker 1: it's gonna be interesting to see when Nolan Smith gets
- 7:16Speaker 1: back and Brandon Graham is back, where they even find
- 7:21Speaker 1: any oh.
- 7:22Speaker 2: No, plenty of reps? Are you kidding me?
- 7:24Speaker 1: Not for those two guys I'm talking about. For Campbell,
- 7:26Speaker 1: where are they going to get the reps?
- 7:27Speaker 2: Fight? Oh well, no, Campbell's an inside backer, he's not.
- 7:30Speaker 2: He's again it's the quagmire. Is Dean versus Campbell next
- 7:36Speaker 2: to Bond? Like that? That's what's going to happen. Now,
- 7:39Speaker 2: let's take what you just said about BG and Smith.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Smith's the starter. Okay, that's not up to debate. He
- 7:46Speaker 2: goes back and starts, Okay, opposite Jaylex Sun. So that's
- 7:51Speaker 2: set there. Hunt. By the way, I want to mention,
- 7:53Speaker 2: he looked really good this game. It wasn't just remember
- 7:56Speaker 2: Sax and Vickers talked about this can't emphasize enough. Sacks
- 8:01Speaker 2: are individual plays. Vic mentioned pressures. Those are I could
- 8:05Speaker 2: tell you from talking to defensive coaches. Yes, sacks are nice,
- 8:09Speaker 2: they're technically negative plays. So cherry on the top. They
- 8:12Speaker 2: want quarterback pressures. You get did you move the quarterback
- 8:15Speaker 2: off the spot? That's how coach is great, that's the
- 8:19Speaker 2: way they think. They don't think like fans do with sacks.
- 8:22Speaker 2: It's some of the media who don't really get it.
- 8:24Speaker 2: They want pressure on the quarterback, make the quarterback move.
- 8:27Speaker 2: So Haunt is really getting better, Mike. He's not there yet,
- 8:31Speaker 2: clearly not, but he is improving. You love that. So
- 8:34Speaker 2: when they all will talk more about this in the
- 8:36Speaker 2: self scout on Friday. But when BG comes back and
- 8:39Speaker 2: he's got to get in he's got to get in
- 8:40Speaker 2: football shape. He's not there yet. He'll have his limited
- 8:43Speaker 2: role and he's great at it. By the way, he
- 8:45Speaker 2: was great at it, but as BG said, no expectations
- 8:49Speaker 2: because he doesn't know at thirty seven years old what
- 8:52Speaker 2: he can do. And then with Nolan's me and by
- 8:54Speaker 2: the way, they both had the same surgery triceps, so
- 8:58Speaker 2: that Nolan didn't have it. You know, he had a
- 9:00Speaker 2: surgery last year then had the setback. You just don't know, Mike,
- 9:03Speaker 2: could these guys stay healthy. That's why I would not
- 9:05Speaker 2: roll out trade for an edge rusher. I would not
- 9:07Speaker 2: roll that out of the cornerback makes cornerback is by
- 9:10Speaker 2: far the biggest thing that's that's really not in question.
- 9:13Speaker 2: But edge rusher. They'll have enough guys, yeah, but will
- 9:16Speaker 2: they be good enough the edge when everybody's healthy, that's
- 9:18Speaker 2: the question.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Well, that's the question there, And obviously the other thing
- 9:21Speaker 1: is going to be the secondary. He got asked a
- 9:23Speaker 1: little bit about Ringo and he mentioned ja Corean Bennett,
- 9:27Speaker 1: and then he went on a little solo aque about
- 9:29Speaker 1: Cooper and Gene as.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Well, Yeah, you know why because the Eagles don't know
- 9:33Speaker 2: past season where they're going to line up Degene. Is
- 9:35Speaker 2: he going to be a corner? Is he going to
- 9:37Speaker 2: be a safety? Blackt ship or members not got his extension.
- 9:40Speaker 2: This is the final year, one year extension. And you know,
- 9:44Speaker 2: you know mccooba is going to start, But who's going
- 9:46Speaker 2: to be next to mccouba for the future. They don't
- 9:48Speaker 2: know that yet, So that's part of it. They know
- 9:51Speaker 2: that Degene is a corner on bass downs and nickel
- 9:57Speaker 2: any passing situation. Dejane is playing. He's playing the nickel
- 10:01Speaker 2: defensive back. He's not a corner. That's not going to
- 10:04Speaker 2: change the season for the future. It might Mike, but
- 10:07Speaker 2: not this season. Degene is dynamic. He's a super freak athlete.
- 10:11Speaker 2: He's dynamic in this nickel role. He could cover running back.
- 10:16Speaker 2: He could he by the way he plays the run.
- 10:18Speaker 2: You see him sometimes play up and play the slot
- 10:21Speaker 2: against the run where he's a big He's a big
- 10:24Speaker 2: nickel like he's He's got really good size, but that's
- 10:26Speaker 2: not what you really want. You gotta be careful. He's
- 10:28Speaker 2: gotten caught up in the wash sometimes playing the run,
- 10:31Speaker 2: and then he could he covers tight ends and he
- 10:33Speaker 2: could blitz by the way. So he's so good. But
- 10:36Speaker 2: the one issue Mike going for it is cornerback opposite Mitchell.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Just think about this, Mike, you knock on what it
- 10:43Speaker 2: doesn't happen. But what if Mitchell couldn't play for three
- 10:45Speaker 2: or four games? Can you imagine it would be ugly?
- 10:50Speaker 2: I know somehow Ringo has not been burned over the top.
- 10:53Speaker 2: I'm stunned by this. He's given up plays, but they're
- 10:58Speaker 2: not getting killed with ringos starting and at Dory Jackson.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Look a Dory Jackson'll be best as a third ringo is
- 11:03Speaker 2: the fourth. That's what you want. But they can't do that.
- 11:05Speaker 2: They don't have anybody else. Jacran Bennett. They don't know
- 11:08Speaker 2: anything about him because he's been hurt, Mike, they had
- 11:13Speaker 2: cornerback has got to be addressed. They have to address
- 11:16Speaker 2: this by the trade deadline. If they don't, it's not
- 11:18Speaker 2: for lack of trying. I remember myself and others reported
- 11:23Speaker 2: that the year before they got Slay from the lines,
- 11:25Speaker 2: they were very close to getting him from the lines.
- 11:28Speaker 2: The lines backed out. They decided not to do it,
- 11:30Speaker 2: but the Eagles tried. And it's funny, since then you
- 11:33Speaker 2: know it was Sleigh, and it's brad Berry, and since
- 11:36Speaker 2: then you know it's Quinnon. And now it's a major
- 11:40Speaker 2: question mark. To make a Super Bowl run, Mike, they've
- 11:43Speaker 2: got to add a veteran, someone who's been there and
- 11:45Speaker 2: done that. They could pat On. I know it's easier
- 11:47Speaker 2: said than done. It's hard. You gotta have two to tango.
- 11:49Speaker 2: But we'll see what happens by next Tuesday's deadline. And
- 11:52Speaker 2: I'll be with you next Tuesday at four eastern.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yeah, man, and I said, it's ironic that they have
- 11:57Speaker 1: a bye week and the bye lines up with the
- 11:59Speaker 1: trade deadline, so it's, uh, it's an interesting time because
- 12:01Speaker 1: Vic Fangio said today he has very minimal input.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I was laughing. I could He's so funny. But why
- 12:08Speaker 2: didn't they follow up and say, well, what's the process?
- 12:10Speaker 2: Is how we bring it? You know, I don't know
- 12:11Speaker 2: why they didn't ask him? And so he said a
- 12:14Speaker 2: minute because he was very he's very blunt about him, like,
- 12:16Speaker 2: why don't you follow up on that? I just didn't
- 12:18Speaker 2: understand that.
- 12:18Speaker 1: But anyway, Yeah, they are seeing we'll see what happens. Uh.
- 12:21Speaker 1: They got next a week from today trade deadline and
- 12:25Speaker 1: of course we'll have a coverage right here on football
- 12:27Speaker 1: at four here on the Sports Batch, he's Adam Kaplan.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Check out the Inside the Birds podcast your sorts for
- 12:32Speaker 1: Eagles Intel. Thanks Adam,
