- 0:00Have you ever wondered if there's a simple yet profound way to deepen your prayer life?
- 0:05Hey everyone, welcome back to the Couples Journey blog series podcast.
- 0:09We're on the final part of the series, Praying Like Never Before.
- 0:13Today, Ray and Annie will guide us through the essentials of prayer as taught
- 0:18by Jesus himself, revealing the A, C, T, S model and its impact on their family.
- 0:25Join us as we explore how prayer can pave the way for a closer,
- 0:29more intimate relationship with God.
- 0:32Here's the final part of this week's series.
- 0:36The known passage in the Bible about prayer is where Jesus instructs us.
- 0:40Pray, then, in this way, as noted in Matthew 6 verse 9.
- 0:46For those who have been walking with Christ for a while, this may be familiar,
- 0:49but we want to take this opportunity to gently guide those who are new in faith
- 0:54in seeking a deeper understanding of prayer.
- 0:56Reflect on Matthew 6 verses 9-13, where Jesus teaches His disciples how to pray.
- 1:03Many churches and ministries today teach the prayer model known as a C-T-S,
- 1:10an acronym that helps us structure our prayers.
- 1:12First, a for adoration, praising, and adorning God, as noted in Psalm 95 verses 1-6.
- 1:20Second, C for confession, asking for forgiveness of sins, as noted in 1 John 1 verse 9.
- 1:27Third, T for thanksgiving, giving thanks to God, as noted in 1 Thessalonians 5 verses 16 to 18.
- 1:36Fourth, S for supplication, humbly and earnestly asking God for our needs and
- 1:41requests, as noted in Isaiah 30 verse 19.
- 1:45This prayer framework has been helpful for us and our children,
- 1:48especially as they also lead us in family prayer times.
- 1:52However, let's remember that God's transforming work in us involves growing
- 1:56in communication and intimacy with Him through prayer.
- 2:00In day two of this week's series, we shared about the hindrances to prayer as outlined in DR.
- 2:06Bill Kine's article. It's also essential to continue relearning about prayer
- 2:10through the second part of DR.
- 2:12Kine's series, Growing in Prayer. Whether we've been walking with Christ for
- 2:16years or are new to faith, it's vital to revisit the true essence of prayer
- 2:21as part of our faith journey. Dr.
- 2:24Kynes offers valuable pointers in this second installment, titled,
- 2:28Learning to Pray to Your Father.
- 2:30These guidelines serve as a helpful reflection for our own prayer lives.
- 2:341. We pray to the right person, God, our Father.
- 2:382. We pray with the right understanding, trusting and revering Him.
- 2:433. We pray for the right things, aligned with His will. 4.
- 2:48We pray for God's honor, His glory first.
- 2:515. We pray for our good, trusting His plans for us. As D.R.
- 2:56Kynes emphasizes, prayer is about taking our relationship with God seriously.
- 3:01It's about embracing the gospel fully. We highly encourage you to read his article
- 3:05and meditate on these pointers.
- 3:07It can truly deepen your understanding and practice of prayer.
- 3:11On a related note, David Mathis, in his book Habits of Grace,
- 3:15reminds us, it shouldn't surprise us, then, to find that prayer is not finally
- 3:21about getting things from God, But getting God,
- 3:24our sincere desire to live intentionally anchored in Christ and to bring our
- 3:29marriage before Him begins with cultivating a vibrant prayer life.
- 3:33Here are some practical ways we're careful to nurture this in our family. 1.
- 3:37We take care of our individual prayer time with God. 2.
- 3:41We dedicate regular family prayer time. 3.
- 3:44We view prayer as a vital necessity, not just a routine or religious duty.
- 3:49We pray this week's blog series has been helpful for your marriage or family.
- 3:54Remember, it's never too late to grow deeper in prayer.
