- 0:00Speaker 1: Here he is, ladies and gentlemen. Hey, guys.
- 0:03Speaker 2: It's Jonathan Deezing, JD. He's here to tech a little
- 0:07Speaker 2: talk with us, or talk a little tech, I should say.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Jonathan is the host of the 3-Bit Gamer Show, which
- 0:13Speaker 2: is a podcast released every Tuesday.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Yes, sir. And he's a cookie man. Yes. Cookie Man
- 0:21Speaker 1: and tells us what's happening in the world of games.
- 0:25Speaker 2: And the only thing I looked, you sent us a rundown,
- 0:27Speaker 2: and the only thing I really looked at was that
- 0:30Speaker 2: Gritty game.
- 0:30Speaker 1: But let's get into the things you brought us. We'll
- 0:32Speaker 1: get into Gritty for sure. Okay. What do we got here?
- 0:35Speaker 1: So we are at the bingo hour here for Grand
- 0:39Speaker 1: Theft Auto 6. It's coming out next month, first thing,
- 0:41Speaker 1: which means that most game companies do not want to
- 0:44Speaker 1: release a game right now. Yeah. October is a little
- 0:47Speaker 1: thin for games, which is kind of nice, because if
- 0:49Speaker 1: you are waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6, which is
- 0:51Speaker 1: projected to be the biggest video game of all time,
- 0:54Speaker 1: the minute it releases, there are some other actually pretty
- 0:58Speaker 1: cool games out this month. The first one up is
- 1:01Speaker 1: Gears of War E-Day, which is, if you guys are
- 1:05Speaker 1: vaguely familiar with this game, it is a chainsaw machine
- 1:10Speaker 1: gun game. So this is where you are going to be...
- 1:15Speaker 1: You're fighting, it's like an Earth analog, so it's not
- 1:17Speaker 1: on Earth, but it's like a planet that's like Earth.
- 1:20Speaker 1: And all of a sudden, one day, all these monsters
- 1:21Speaker 1: emerged and just started killing all the people, and you
- 1:24Speaker 1: were fighting them with guns and chainsaws and whatever. So
- 1:26Speaker 1: this is an old series. The first one came out
- 1:29Speaker 1: in 2006. But the first one, and then all the
- 1:31Speaker 1: subsequent ones, were set after the day that all the
- 1:33Speaker 1: monsters came crawling out of the holes. But this one
- 1:37Speaker 1: goes back, and it's like a prequel, which is cool
- 1:39Speaker 1: because we've been hearing about this for 20 years all
- 1:42Speaker 1: the games talking about e-day and all the things that
- 1:45Speaker 1: happened on e-day and because it was all just set
- 1:47Speaker 1: in the aftermath it's this very grim dark kind of
- 1:50Speaker 1: bleak game where you know you're just fighting not just
- 1:53Speaker 1: not for the survival of humanity for your survival for
- 1:56Speaker 1: the next five minutes it's it's quite quite gory too
- 2:00Speaker 1: yes it's like it's the whole the whole plot and
- 2:04Speaker 1: you know revolves around these these creatures with very tough
- 2:06Speaker 1: skin that's why you have to put chainsaws on your
- 2:09Speaker 1: on your guns and just mow through them. So this
- 2:12Speaker 1: is out on Xbox and PC already, and it's got
- 2:16Speaker 1: great reviews. It's looking like a return to form if
- 2:19Speaker 1: you like this series. Another cool series is Star Wars,
- 2:24Speaker 1: and this game, the latest game is Star Wars Galactic Racer.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And if you guys remember back way back when the
- 2:31Speaker 1: early 2000s after episode one came out and pod racing.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I was going to say pod racing, but this isn't
- 2:35Speaker 1: pod racing. This is vaguely kind of pod racing. This
- 2:38Speaker 1: is so that one, the last pod racing game we
- 2:41Speaker 1: got was in the 2000s. And this one is kind
- 2:44Speaker 1: of the idea is that you're racing after the return
- 2:48Speaker 1: of the Jedi. So the Empire's Fallen, which they had
- 2:50Speaker 1: all these strict racing requirements. So basically killed pod racing.
- 2:54Speaker 1: And then it's like they're rebuilding this into the Galactic League.
- 2:58Speaker 1: So do you build your vehicle? Yeah, it's kind of scrappy.
- 3:03Speaker 1: You're this scrappy guy that's trying to work your way
- 3:05Speaker 1: up the leagues as they're kind of putting this um
- 3:09Speaker 1: it's kind of like early days of them building the
- 3:12Speaker 1: racing league and you're you're in it this is kind
- 3:14Speaker 1: of hard it looks like it looks like it's kind
- 3:16Speaker 1: of hard you do have to have the force in
- 3:20Speaker 1: order to navigate it so i wouldn't recommend this to
- 3:22Speaker 1: non-force users but uh yeah there's a story and then
- 3:26Speaker 1: there's there's online multiplayer i think it's 16 players so
- 3:29Speaker 1: you can and it's not just like go go go
- 3:31Speaker 1: like most racing games you're driving in a car it's
- 3:33Speaker 1: like you're you're fighting and you're Kind of trying to
- 3:36Speaker 1: not nudge people off the course and stuff. I mean,
- 3:41Speaker 1: it's really Star Wars-y, and it's gotten great reviews. It
- 3:44Speaker 1: looks good, yeah. If you're looking for a racing game
- 3:46Speaker 1: that's just a little different, that's not on four wheels,
- 3:50Speaker 1: Star Wars Galactic Racer. And that's out now on Xbox, PS5,
- 3:53Speaker 1: and PC. So, yeah, that one looks pretty awesome.
- 3:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Oh, Sebulba is back. Yeah, Sebulba's kind of like one
- 4:00Speaker 1: of the main antagonists. I thought he got blowed up
- 4:04Speaker 1: in the first one. No, remember because he's waving his
- 4:06Speaker 1: fist at the end? Oh, that's right. Yeah, so yeah, Sebulba,
- 4:08Speaker 1: if you guys want to race against him. Got some
- 4:11Speaker 1: fun little things to waste your time at the office today.
- 4:14Speaker 1: This is really cool. Yeah, Salt Lake Gritty. This is, well,
- 4:18Speaker 1: you're going to have to get the link at x96. com
- 4:20Speaker 1: because I'm not going to read it. It's too long, yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 1: It's weird. But basically, if you guys have heard of geo-guessing,
- 4:25Speaker 1: that is that you see a picture of of a
- 4:28Speaker 1: location and you guess where it is. I know where
- 4:30Speaker 1: that is. This is a very specific, hyper-specific geoguessr for
- 4:34Speaker 1: the Salt Lake Valley. It's called Salt Lake Gritty. And
- 4:36Speaker 1: it just basically very simply shows you a picture, shows
- 4:39Speaker 1: you a map of the valley and you, You kind
- 4:41Speaker 1: of just drop a pin where you think that picture
- 4:43Speaker 1: was taken and your best estimation. And then you say,
- 4:47Speaker 1: where am I? I didn't do great. Yeah. The best
- 4:50Speaker 1: one I did was I was 16 blocks off. That's
- 4:53Speaker 1: not bad. 16 blocks isn't bad. The general area.
- 4:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 4:56Speaker 1: You got in the neighborhood. It's pretty hard. Yeah. I
- 4:59Speaker 1: got two that were right on, but it was only
- 5:01Speaker 1: because there were like places I've been driving by since
- 5:03Speaker 1: I was a child. so otherwise it is kind of
- 5:07Speaker 1: hard but the more you play it you find the
- 5:09Speaker 1: first one i did i'm 221 blocks off nowhere near
- 5:13Speaker 1: that you just gotta practice that's what i've seen these
- 5:15Speaker 1: geoguessers that do because there's guys that'll do geoguessing streams
- 5:18Speaker 1: they'll just sit there and geoguess for eight hours while
- 5:20Speaker 1: people watch them and they get better and better because
- 5:23Speaker 1: you get you know you start to pick up details
- 5:24Speaker 1: so that one's pretty cool it's pretty addicting too i
- 5:27Speaker 1: played it for i don't know like 30 minutes or
- 5:29Speaker 1: more just trying to see all the cards but yeah
- 5:32Speaker 1: it's pretty cool um The next one here, this is
- 5:35Speaker 1: kind of just like a fun thing since gambling is
- 5:38Speaker 1: apparently like the backbone of the U.S. economy now. Yeah.
- 5:41Speaker 1: So let's keep gambling. This is called– you go to playchipless.com.
- 5:46Speaker 1: If you have a deck of cards, you want to
- 5:47Speaker 1: play poker with your friends, but you don't have poker chips,
- 5:51Speaker 1: this is– I can't tell you the number of times
- 5:54Speaker 1: this happens all the time, but it is. It's more convenient,
- 6:00Speaker 1: I guess, if you don't want to deal chips. I
- 6:02Speaker 1: like playing with poker chips, but it's kind of cool
- 6:05Speaker 1: to just you can just go to this website. You
- 6:07Speaker 1: don't need to download anything. You don't need to sign
- 6:09Speaker 1: in or anything. It's just play chipless dot com. You
- 6:11Speaker 1: can host a game. or join a game and you
- 6:15Speaker 1: just choose how many sharding chips you have and you
- 6:17Speaker 1: just sit there and... But you do need a real
- 6:20Speaker 1: deck of cards. Yeah, you do need a deck of cards. Okay.
- 6:23Speaker 1: So yeah, that's, I don't know. I just thought that
- 6:25Speaker 1: was kind of a quirky little thing.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Yes, it is.
- 6:28Speaker 1: And then this one I meant to talk about a
- 6:32Speaker 1: while ago when they flew the spaceship around. That's okay.
- 6:35Speaker 1: The moon. That's still cool. But yeah, this is a
- 6:39Speaker 1: tool from NASA. If you go to homeandcity.nasa.gov, It shows
- 6:44Speaker 1: you just how many things, and I was keyed into
- 6:47Speaker 1: this listening to a podcast about the Artemis missions, just
- 6:50Speaker 1: how many things in your home and your city were
- 6:53Speaker 1: just straight up invented by NASA. All kinds of stuff. Yeah.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 6:58Speaker 1: It's kind of like an interactive house and then an
- 7:00Speaker 1: interactive city where you can just click and see on
- 7:02Speaker 1: things and even like the brass fixtures on your sink
- 7:09Speaker 1: in your bathroom. That type of brass is specifically invented
- 7:13Speaker 1: by NASA for re-entries. Things like that that are really
- 7:16Speaker 1: cool to see. UV-blocking sunglasses. Yeah. And, I mean, there
- 7:22Speaker 1: are so many things that we just take for granted now. And,
- 7:25Speaker 1: I mean, that was kind of the point the astronaut
- 7:28Speaker 1: on that podcast was making. It's like, well, you know,
- 7:31Speaker 1: this is like we're not just, you know, going around
- 7:34Speaker 1: the moon and then that's it. Like we are inventing
- 7:37Speaker 1: things that you use– in later life.
- 7:40Speaker 2: That is certainly an argument I think they need to
- 7:43Speaker 2: make stronger and stronger to keep the space program going.
- 7:48Speaker 1: We should fund it because it's not just about.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Going to the moon or to Mars or whatever.
- 7:52Speaker 1: It's all of this stuff. Yeah, it's like that passion
- 7:56Speaker 1: appeal that Matthew McConaughey's character makes in Interstellar that his
- 7:59Speaker 1: wife died because It didn't have an MRI machine, and
- 8:02Speaker 1: that was invented because, you know, it was based on technology.
- 8:05Speaker 2: Memory foam bras were invented by NASA.
- 8:09Speaker 1: There we go. What would we do without? Yeah, if
- 8:13Speaker 1: our boobs had to know where they went. Protect pilots
- 8:16Speaker 1: from impact. There you go. So this last one here,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I also played with this way too much. It's a
- 8:21Speaker 1: little depressing. A little. It's called Sliding Shores. You go
- 8:26Speaker 1: to slidingshores.com. And hey, it's not an oh no for
- 8:30Speaker 1: me because I personally love Waterworld, the Kevin Costner vehicle.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It's like just my favorite crappy Sunday afternoon movie. So
- 8:39Speaker 1: I'm like, yeah, flood the planet, whatever. I'll get a catamaran.
- 8:43Speaker 1: This is a map of the world where you can
- 8:46Speaker 1: drag a slider left or right to add or subtract
- 8:50Speaker 1: water from the planet. And it will show you basically
- 8:54Speaker 1: where the shoreline will be. Do you know what? As
- 8:57Speaker 1: I'm sliding this, Utah's in a pretty good position. We're
- 9:01Speaker 1: in a good spot. Yeah. Are we going to have
- 9:03Speaker 1: beachfront property? Yeah, but it looks like we're one of
- 9:07Speaker 1: the last remaining spots. High mountains is kind of nice. Yeah,
- 9:11Speaker 1: the beachfront would be pretty swanky.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Except, you know, at the same time, if the Great
- 9:16Speaker 2: Salt Lake dries up, Salt Lake would.
- 9:19Speaker 1: Be a ghost town. Well, no, Bill, if you do this,
- 9:22Speaker 1: it's like it's way past that. It's like this is
- 9:25Speaker 1: like end of the world stuff. But what's cool is
- 9:27Speaker 1: you can set it to be like this is where
- 9:30Speaker 1: if this is like the 2100 worst case scenario. And
- 9:34Speaker 1: then all the ice in Greenland melts, all the ice
- 9:36Speaker 1: in the world melts, stuff like that. And then you
- 9:39Speaker 1: can also look at like glacial periods past that. geographic
- 9:44Speaker 1: epics and things like that and to see where there
- 9:47Speaker 1: were these. There goes Modesto. Different times. Yeah, and then
- 9:51Speaker 1: you can zoom in and see specifically. It's crazy how
- 9:54Speaker 1: quickly Florida just disappears. No Florida. Well, that's happening like
- 9:58Speaker 1: in the next five years.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Yeah. You know what? I'm looking right now at Mona.
- 10:03Speaker 2: That's where we should be. We should be in Mona, Utah.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Mona will be fine.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Yeah, you guys can plot out where you're going to live,
- 10:12Speaker 1: where you'll find dry land in the water world future.
- 10:15Speaker 1: This is kind of fun to play with. All right.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Jonathan Deasing, JD, he brings us fun things to do
- 10:24Speaker 2: every couple of weeks.
- 10:25Speaker 1: Listen to the two-bit, three-bit gamer show. How many bits
- 10:28Speaker 1: are in that show? There's two bits, but we call
- 10:30Speaker 1: it three bits.
- 10:31Speaker 2: It's the three-bit gamer show, and there you go. He
- 10:35Speaker 2: does that, and he's a cookie guy.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Yes, sir. He works for Crave. Yeah, come down to
- 10:40Speaker 1: Crave Cookies. There you go. Thank you very much. All right.
