- 0:00So how are you feeling? Not great? Better than last week, but
- 0:07not terrific? All right, well, hopefully hopefully it gets better soon.
- 0:13Yeah, I'm shooting for the twenty eighth. All right, all right everyone,
- 0:18Well we'll go ahead and get started. Coach, coming off weekend h
- 0:23and two against Fully Cross, looking ahead on the road again two games at
- 0:28Union, I want to get your thoughts on how you think the guys have
- 0:31looked in practice coming off the weekend and then looking ahead to the two games
- 0:35at Union. Yeah. I was certainly disappointing from the results wise this past
- 0:41weekend. I actually though thought we played pretty well. We didn't score goals,
- 0:46and I think you have to focus, especially this time time of year,
- 0:54on the process and how you're playing. And you know, we did
- 1:00we play well in the defensive zone. I thought we played pretty well there.
- 1:03Did we give up a lot of odd man rushes. We gave up
- 1:06a breakaway on a kind of broken play and then we had a turnover that
- 1:11led to their scoring chance or their first goal. But other than that,
- 1:15I thought we limited any type of odd man rush type situation. So we
- 1:21played pretty tight there and we put a lot of pucks on net. The
- 1:25goalie played well and we didn't get it by him. Now, we focused
- 1:29a lot this week on you know, more traffic in front of the net
- 1:34and hitting the net more. I think we missed the net on a couple
- 1:38opportunities where we probably let the goalie off the hook, So focusing on those
- 1:44things. But overall, I was happy with the effort and the performance.
- 1:48And I think if you continue to play weekends where we only give up you
- 1:52know, three goals will be more successful more than not. All right,
- 1:59Bob, you on off for the first question. Yeah, sure, thanks,
- 2:02have good morning. Good morning. Ask you about I want to ask
- 2:05you about that turnover and just a mental aspect of it. Nobody felt worse
- 2:08about it, I'm sure than Jake. How's he responded this week in practice?
- 2:13He's been great. I mean he's Uh, those things happen and he
- 2:17knows and we're going to be a better team as long as he doesn't do
- 2:23that again, you know, and if you learn from it, uh,
- 2:27your team gets better. So it's uh, when you when you've played sports
- 2:32long enough, you're going to make mistakes. Even the best make mistakes,
- 2:39and you have to have a short term memory and learn from it and move
- 2:43on. And I think that's what he's done this week. And what are
- 2:46your thoughts on Union? I think that you know, I watched their game
- 2:52against Colorado College and I don't think the score was indicative of the game.
- 2:57I was really impressed with how quick they were. I think pro cups excellent
- 3:00on defense, and they're gonna they're going to be a team that pressures all
- 3:07over the ice. I think Josh has done a great job with them in
- 3:09two years. And yeah, they're a very good team and we're going to
- 3:14have our hands full for the weekend for sure. Randy will go over to
- 3:19you, Good morning, coach, how are you today? Morning? Randy?
- 3:23You referenced Owen Simpson's ability to get the pucked through layers of traffic last
- 3:29week. I thought that was kind of interesting. And seeing that Holy Cross,
- 3:32I think they blocked like seventeen and sixteen shots. I just a little
- 3:36more thought on, like how do you work on that? Like how do
- 3:38you how difficult is it to get pucks through layers of screens from your own
- 3:44teams and defense and get it on target. It's very difficult. It's something
- 3:50that you know you do work on in practice, but The one thing that's
- 3:54hard is you're not going to have guys selling out diving in practice to block
- 3:59shot, and that happens in games sometimes, So there are things that we
- 4:04do to work on it in practice. But one of the things, you
- 4:09know, they say one of Connor Brodard's great skills is he a defenseman can
- 4:13be stick on puck, but he can pull a puck in and shoot it
- 4:15from inside and get it between the triangle of the stick and the leg.
- 4:20And that's something you got to be able to do as a defenseman too,
- 4:23because guys that not everybody leaves their feet when they're coming out to block a
- 4:27defenseman shot, and you're going to have to be able to do that.
- 4:31And that's it's a skill that you can do standing still. It's a lot
- 4:34tougher to do it at full speed when you've got to be moving and a
- 4:38guy's coming at you. So it's something that we worked on yesterday. And
- 4:44in regards to Union, I didn't see their game against Colorado College, but
- 4:47you look at the box score and you see that there was a lot of
- 4:50goals scored. Of course, was it are they a more like open up
- 4:56style of play? And I know you said they're going to pressure, but
- 5:00and if they are, does that play well for you guys with your speed
- 5:03and your skill to have a more opened up game. Yeah, I'm not
- 5:08sure that their style of play is a benefit for or against US. I
- 5:15just I was impressed with their team speed. I don't think you've got to
- 5:19be really careful this time of year to look at scores and put any stock
- 5:26into them. I think that look at, hey, Edmonton, oiler is
- 5:30going to be eight to one the first night against the Canucks and not you
- 5:32know, they're gonna be a good team there at the end of the year.
- 5:35So I just trust my eyes and I watch their team play, and
- 5:43they're quick, and they get on pucks and they compete. So it's gonna
- 5:47be I believe, two hard fought games this weekend, much like they were
- 5:54last year. Right, thanks, Hm, Adam will head over to you.
- 6:00I'm sure you addressed this after the game on Saturday. I didn't quite
- 6:03catch it. The instance where the goalies glove went over the goal line and
- 6:09there was no review was just a matter of They've said that they knew they
- 6:13had blown the whistle before all of that transpired. No, the call on
- 6:17the ice was that our guy had pushed his glove over the h So if
- 6:23I wanted to challenge that I could have I would have had to use a
- 6:27time out. It was early in the game, and my guys radio down
- 6:30to me that our guy did pushes his glove over like it would have been
- 6:35one that I don't think they would have overturned. So it wasn't worth it
- 6:40for me at that point to use a challenge at that point. How were
- 6:45you at the stage of the season four games in feeling the team is with
- 6:48taking the right kind of penalties versus penalties that you really could do without.
- 6:57Well, if you're referring to some of the penalties we took lot last weekend,
- 7:00I think there's certainly two of them at the end of the game on
- 7:03Friday night were unnecessary, and I think one in particular was unnecessary on Saturday.
- 7:10So again, those are learning experiences, and you know you have to
- 7:19I don't think I've ever coached a season where a kid hasn't taken a dumb
- 7:24penalty. And as a player, I took dumb penalties. Now you don't,
- 7:30and at times you get frustrated, and it happens if it continues to
- 7:32happen, then that's going to affect someone's playing time. But those are the
- 7:39things that you obviously, that's why you're here and you coach and you tell
- 7:43them that this is, you know, not going to help our team win.
- 7:47And I know my expectations are this doesn't happen again. If it happens
- 7:50again, then that'll affect playing time. Thank you, Joe. Will hung
- 7:56over to you, cav when you're going through us rich like last weekend and
- 8:01the puck's not going in the nets, what's the trigger for you as far
- 8:07as mixing up lines is concerned, And is it different early in the season
- 8:13rather than January and February. Yeah, you know, as far as switching
- 8:18lines, that's just a feel for me, Joe, Like I did it
- 8:22at Colgate late in the game that second night because I didn't feel like we
- 8:28were generating our lines were generating enough offense. I feel like we needed a
- 8:33change and it fortunately worked out now Saturday night, I didn't think our lines
- 8:41were the problem, you know, when I told our team that we were
- 8:45generating a lot of offense and every line was generating chances, and I said
- 8:50to the team, it's like you know, if you have ten birdie putts
- 8:54and your lip eight of them out, it's not the putter. You know,
- 8:56you're hitting good huts, it's it's just not dropping for you. So
- 9:01I felt like our lines weren't the issue on Saturday. We were generating a
- 9:07lot of offense, so I didn't feel the need to switch those up.
- 9:13I just that point, you just keep doing what you're doing and trust that
- 9:18something's going to happen, and let's keep trying to take his eyes away and
- 9:20get second and third opportunities and be hungry around the net and keep saying positive
- 9:26there, you know, I just no, if you know, watching that
- 9:35game, we were in their zone most of the time. We had to
- 9:39puck the majority of the time. How did you think Chase played after missing
- 9:43a couple of games and is he ready to be back on a regular line.
- 9:50I thought he was kind of felt his way through the first period.
- 9:54I thought he was excellent in the second and third. I thought he was
- 9:58really dominant, wars full, and he played that power forward game that we
- 10:03need from him. Thank you, Randy. Go ahead. Well, just
- 10:09to follow up to Joe's question about trusting the process and sticking with it,
- 10:15when you're generating chances and staying positive, Like, how important is you know
- 10:20a guy like Hudson and Tabor who bring that positive energy to you know,
- 10:24enforce the message of staying positive and sticking with the process. Yeah, I
- 10:31think we have a lot of guys like that who can do that. And
- 10:33we're four games in, you know, so you know, I told the
- 10:39team, you know, last year we got off to a great start,
- 10:41but we were winning some games I didn't think we deserve to win. We
- 10:45got some excellent goaltending, and you know, we're opportunistic in certain areas,
- 10:52and I didn't feel our record was indicative of actually how we were playing.
- 10:58Uh, this year, I'm not sure our records indicative of how we're playing.
- 11:03I think we're playing playing pretty solid. You know, you have sleepless
- 11:09nights when you have to win games eight six all the time. If you
- 11:13have pretty solid goaltending and good defense, the goals will come go ahead.
- 11:24Andy Hi, coach Andrew Santo. I'm doing the broadcast this weekend the games
- 11:31against Union. Just wanted you to comment on your goalie position. We are
- 11:37Sinny and Ethan, just maybe what you like about what both of them bring
- 11:41to the table and then your you know, your mindset about you know how
- 11:45each of them have played two games so far. Yeah, they're both very
- 11:50competitive, which I like. They they both have good size. I think
- 11:58our Sinny is probably more athletic and Ethan is more technique type or efficient in
- 12:13his movements. But they're both successful in their own ways. And I just
- 12:18like so far how they've given us a chance to win every game. And
- 12:24that's all you can ask of your goaltender. They you know, the goalie
- 12:28that Ethan gave up the other the night was a breakaway essentially turnover in almost
- 12:33a two on zero, and then you know, our Sinny the night before
- 12:41was a little unfortunate. The first one was a weird pucket was like a
- 12:45knuckle pucket went off a stick and it was a weird shot. I think
- 12:48if it didn't hit our stick, he probably makes a save. You know.
- 12:50In the second one he made actually made the save and they knocked in
- 12:54the rebound. We didn't do a great job back checking to the net.
- 12:58So they've both in making saves that they should make and sometimes making you know,
- 13:03you need your goalie. There's going to be five, maybe Greade a
- 13:07attempts, and they got to make four or five out of those great A
- 13:09attempts and stop the ones they should. And if you're getting you know,
- 13:13nine save percentage somewhere in that ballpark, they're giving you a chance to win.
- 13:18And I think they've both done that
