- 0:07Speaker 1: It's Me podcast. Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only
- 0:12Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer
- 0:15Speaker 1: new Arthen. Today we're joined by Jannice cal Mark, Brodie Hayden, Alyssa, Karin,
- 0:21Speaker 1: and Corey. You only this one name I didn't mention there,
- 0:23Speaker 1: and that's Steve Ronella. This is a steveless episode right right.
- 0:29Speaker 1: That was your honest, he's having fun right now now. Alyssa,
- 0:34Speaker 1: I think this is your first time on the podcast.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So tell folks what you do here at Meat Eater.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I am a staff accountant and I do accounts, payable
- 0:42Speaker 1: account receivables, work with Phelps, game calls, doing some accounts
- 0:48Speaker 1: receivables with their wholesalers, and uh just have a great team.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I like it. And she was a big contributor to
- 0:55Speaker 1: the Pardon My Plate series. Honest, I don't know if
- 0:57Speaker 1: you know this, but do not. The stuffed bob can't
- 1:00Speaker 1: that we we messed around with. That actually came from Melissa.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Why do you have it's my husband's. Actually I can't
- 1:08Speaker 1: take full credit for it. It's his. Be honest. When
- 1:11Speaker 1: are you getting your bobcat pillow? Hopefully soon? Ah this
- 1:16Speaker 1: recently told me that she had something at one point
- 1:18Speaker 1: like sixteen dogs, uh, twelve, twelve dogs. That was that
- 1:25Speaker 1: a puppy situation. There was a puppy mill to the
- 1:31Speaker 1: devils in the details. No, we actually raised English pointers
- 1:34Speaker 1: for a long time. Yeah, that's awesome. I once had
- 1:38Speaker 1: eighteen cats. That was that was a kitten. That was
- 1:42Speaker 1: a surprise kittens underneath the stairwell of the front porch situation.
- 1:48Speaker 1: That's too many cats, way too many. I had your
- 1:51Speaker 1: feet off. No, no, no, my wife had one without
- 1:55Speaker 1: me knowing outside, which led to two litters being born
- 1:58Speaker 1: under the stairs of our front ports without me knowing,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and then it four weeks old, they emerged. We had
- 2:04Speaker 1: to get rid of them, get rid of them. We
- 2:09Speaker 1: had to get We had to get rid of them. Brodie,
- 2:12Speaker 1: it's not too many cats. The smallest box of twenty
- 2:14Speaker 1: two shells you can get now. If you're not familiar,
- 2:19Speaker 1: this is a ten round quiz show with questions from
- 2:22Speaker 1: our four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking.
- 2:25Speaker 1: There is a prize. Meat eater will donate five dollars
- 2:28Speaker 1: to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing. Now, I
- 2:31Speaker 1: told you how we're going to reveal a new stat
- 2:33Speaker 1: each episode, and the stat of the week this week
- 2:36Speaker 1: is doing a deep dive on Brody Henderson's performance. Here's
- 2:41Speaker 1: why Brody put together the oddest trivia streak will likely
- 2:45Speaker 1: ever see. In the first ten games Brody ever played,
- 2:48Speaker 1: he either won or win into overtime on every game.
- 2:53Speaker 1: That's damn impressive, Brodie. Yeah, and now you're gonna get
- 2:56Speaker 1: to the bad part. Yeah. Now, he did win four
- 2:58Speaker 1: of those contests, but three of them were outright victories
- 3:02Speaker 1: with no overtime, which means that when Brody does go
- 3:04Speaker 1: to overtime, he almost never wins except for the last
- 3:08Speaker 1: time I went to overtime. Yes, well, I was gonna
- 3:11Speaker 1: say two out of three with me, that seems But
- 3:16Speaker 1: Brodie has went to overtime six times, but it's only
- 3:19Speaker 1: one one of those games. So he's phenomenal in the
- 3:22Speaker 1: first ten questions and the last one. So here's the thing,
- 3:28Speaker 1: how this this episode is for a future date that
- 3:30Speaker 1: we don't know. This could come out like Christmas for
- 3:32Speaker 1: all we know. You're talking to me like it's my fault.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I'm talking to you. It could come out any time.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But as though you could end up being wrong too.
- 3:42Speaker 1: As though I wrote this script this morning before we
- 3:45Speaker 1: knew who won the last game of trivia. You've got
- 3:48Speaker 1: a tough gig spencer. Oh boy, I'm crying for him.
- 3:51Speaker 1: So so Brody is phenomenal the first two ten questions,
- 3:54Speaker 1: but often struggles on the eleven. So, Brodie, what is
- 3:57Speaker 1: it about your trivia game that doesn't translate to the overtime?
- 4:01Speaker 1: Because the over the way the overtime thing is set
- 4:05Speaker 1: up is not based on knowledge. It's always like man like,
- 4:09Speaker 1: it's always someone guessing a number. Wow, it's kind of harsh.
- 4:13Speaker 1: That's not true. You have to have some sort of
- 4:15Speaker 1: like information. It's not completely true, I'll give you that,
- 4:19Speaker 1: but it does come down to, like I guess, I
- 4:24Speaker 1: think most people that have gone into overtime would agree
- 4:27Speaker 1: with that. I would be with you there, Brodie. It
- 4:29Speaker 1: is impressive how often those first ten games you were
- 4:33Speaker 1: on the winning end. It's good work. Thank you. Now,
- 4:37Speaker 1: Like I said, this episode is coming out way in
- 4:39Speaker 1: the future. We have no idea. When last time we
- 4:41Speaker 1: did this, I asked Janice and and Seth to make
- 4:44Speaker 1: some predictions about what would happen in the next month.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Seth is like Nostradamis. I asked him how he's going
- 4:50Speaker 1: to do in the four peck Walley Attorney. I think
- 4:53Speaker 1: he said fourteen. They got seventeen. We asked him who
- 4:56Speaker 1: was going to be the sloppiest at his wedding. He
- 4:59Speaker 1: predicted Chester. And I've been to many weddings with an
- 5:02Speaker 1: open bar, and I've never seen somebody take pepto bismal
- 5:05Speaker 1: during the dance like we saw Chester. Dude, maybe I'm
- 5:08Speaker 1: betraying a confidence there. Who actually helped him get that
- 5:11Speaker 1: pepto bismal? Dirtmith and I went and got him some
- 5:14Speaker 1: pepto but I but he just felt like it was
- 5:19Speaker 1: gonna puke. Um. But I think, uh, I wasn't there
- 5:25Speaker 1: to witness this, But I think in the end, dirt
- 5:27Speaker 1: might have overtaken in. Oh no, yes, better than the
- 5:35Speaker 1: alternative would have been falling in the fire. That was
- 5:38Speaker 1: like three hours after I was already at home asleep.
- 5:40Speaker 1: Though he survived that. So, yeah, you want to make
- 5:42Speaker 1: another prediction this time. I think last time you predicted that, uh,
- 5:45Speaker 1: Peter Alonzo was gonna have like twenty home runs. By
- 5:48Speaker 1: now I checked, he's at twenty two. Oh, so you
- 5:51Speaker 1: got any predictions on what might happen, Uh in like
- 5:53Speaker 1: the next month or something. Oh boy, I'm gonna kill
- 5:57Speaker 1: my first booner, probably in the not in the next month.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Out known for fishing games. Listening. Do you want to
- 6:05Speaker 1: make any predictions or should we move on? Oh? You
- 6:08Speaker 1: can move on if I come up with something. All
- 6:09Speaker 1: that you know now the previous game of trivia, we
- 6:12Speaker 1: talked about the biggest private landowners in America, and during
- 6:15Speaker 1: that question I asked Cal for what the famous Leuipold
- 6:18Speaker 1: quote was about private land conservation. We couldn't come up
- 6:21Speaker 1: with it at the time, but I went and found
- 6:22Speaker 1: it this morning. Here it is, conservation will ultimately boil
- 6:26Speaker 1: down to rewarding the private landowner who conserves the public interest.
- 6:30Speaker 1: So Cal explained, folks what that means, because there are
- 6:33Speaker 1: a lot of great quotes about conservation, but very few
- 6:36Speaker 1: that directly apply to private landowners. I don't know if
- 6:40Speaker 1: that's true. Um, well, the context right is important, But
- 6:46Speaker 1: because like Robert Baron times, um, but it's saying that
- 6:52Speaker 1: even though it's private land, you are shackled with upholding
- 6:56Speaker 1: the public trust, which is wildlife. I could say that
- 7:00Speaker 1: in a lot of different ways. But um, yeah, and
- 7:05Speaker 1: I mean, if you want to really start reading into this,
- 7:07Speaker 1: it's just like a deep depressing hole. Yeah matters what
- 7:11Speaker 1: happens on both sides of the fence. It does. And
- 7:14Speaker 1: as those fences get smaller and smaller and land gets
- 7:17Speaker 1: chunked up smaller and smaller, and folks have very different
- 7:22Speaker 1: ethos as to how that stuff should behave we constantly
- 7:26Speaker 1: have to sit there and be like, well, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 1: wildlife is public unless you build a tall enough fence. Now,
- 7:34Speaker 1: also on a previous game at Triviute, we talked about
- 7:36Speaker 1: Kim Jong Ill's claimed accomplishments, which include inventing the burrito
- 7:40Speaker 1: and curing dwarfism. But now I want to talk about
- 7:43Speaker 1: his achievements in sports, which would make him the greatest
- 7:46Speaker 1: athlete in the world. He played his first ever game
- 7:50Speaker 1: of golf, in which he hit eleven holes in one
- 7:53Speaker 1: and scored thirty eight under part. Later that year, he
- 7:56Speaker 1: bowled for the first time ever and amazingly got a
- 7:59Speaker 1: perfect three hundred. Isn't that incredible? Wow, That's all I
- 8:03Speaker 1: can say. Yeah, man doesn't even look like an athlete,
- 8:05Speaker 1: but eleven holes in one, well, I think that's just
- 8:08Speaker 1: focus it's just a ball hitting pans at the mental lane.
- 8:12Speaker 1: Is the proper way hole in ones? Holes in one.
- 8:16Speaker 1: You're saying holes in one. I think it should be.
- 8:18Speaker 1: It's like surgeons in general, what's the attorneys general? Yeah,
- 8:22Speaker 1: it's I think holes in one is his right now.
- 8:25Speaker 1: The dictator was infatuated with sports, which of course you
- 8:29Speaker 1: would be too if you were the world's greatest athlete,
- 8:31Speaker 1: but his love of basketball was actually his greatest weakness.
- 8:35Speaker 1: According to some Former Republican Senator Rick Santorum actually once
- 8:40Speaker 1: said that North Korea is less of a threat than
- 8:43Speaker 1: I ran because, quote, Kim Jong Ill doesn't want to die.
- 8:46Speaker 1: He wants to watch NBA basketball. Wasn't didn't Dennis Rodman
- 8:51Speaker 1: go and hang out there? I think that was with
- 8:52Speaker 1: his son, his son Kim Young. But yeah, those folks
- 8:56Speaker 1: love the NBA over there, and that's why they're not
- 8:59Speaker 1: going to send a new Caney where because they just
- 9:01Speaker 1: want to watch NBA basketball. Has the format of this
- 9:04Speaker 1: changed since last time? I was what's going on? And
- 9:07Speaker 1: with that we're on a Meeta to trivia play the drop, Phil, Look,
- 9:12Speaker 1: I need to know what I stay under wind everything.
- 9:17Speaker 1: How I'm saying just tend to win everything suckers. Question
- 9:29Speaker 1: one this would be multiple choice in the topic is
- 9:31Speaker 1: mountain men. This first great question comes to us from
- 9:35Speaker 1: Stephen Ranella. If you have a question you think is
- 9:37Speaker 1: right for Meatia to trivia, you can send it to
- 9:39Speaker 1: Trivia at the meat eator dot com. What was Jeddediah
- 9:43Speaker 1: Smith's middle name? Was it Hunter, Stephen Strong or Hercules? Again?
- 9:51Speaker 1: What was Jeddediah Smith's middle name? Was it? Hunter, Stephen
- 9:57Speaker 1: Strong or Hercules? Did Steve supply the answers for this question? Oh? No, no,
- 10:05Speaker 1: he gave me the right answer. Got you? Ce bonded
- 10:10Speaker 1: this one to be a fill in the blank, but
- 10:11Speaker 1: I didn't think anyboble would get it, so that's why
- 10:12Speaker 1: I made it a multiple choice. Does that help you? Brody?
- 10:16Speaker 1: Knowing that I was just curious? I think I know it,
- 10:21Speaker 1: but I've said that before, Hunter, Stephen Strong or Hercules?
- 10:29Speaker 1: Does everybody of an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 10:33Speaker 1: We have Mark saying Hercules, Hayden saying strong, Brody saying strong,
- 10:37Speaker 1: Melissa is saying strong, Karin saying Stephen, cal saying strong,
- 10:41Speaker 1: Corey saying Stephen, and Jana saying hercules. The correct answer
- 10:47Speaker 1: is Strong. Strong was his mother's last name, and Smith
- 10:53Speaker 1: was his father's last name. This was a tradition made
- 10:56Speaker 1: popular a few hundred years ago as religious middle names
- 10:59Speaker 1: fell out of favor. Today, the most common middle names
- 11:02Speaker 1: for boys is James and for girls is Marie. I
- 11:06Speaker 1: have the most common middle name, wow to them. In
- 11:11Speaker 1: the colations question to the topic is fishing? What state
- 11:16Speaker 1: is home to the finger Lakes region? Is that one
- 11:22Speaker 1: so funny? There's a Office episode with Jim Carey, and
- 11:29Speaker 1: you know what, My wife brought up this exact thing
- 11:31Speaker 1: when I asked you this question. That's funny when he says,
- 11:36Speaker 1: that's what Steve would be doing. Again, What state is
- 11:40Speaker 1: home to the finger Lakes region? There's also that that
- 11:45Speaker 1: SNL sketch with Christen Wigg has the tiny hands. It's
- 11:48Speaker 1: like those little I don't know if you've seen those.
- 11:50Speaker 1: That's like their sisters and their singers from Yeah, does
- 11:57Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? I'll go with it. Go ahead
- 12:01Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Mark saying new York,
- 12:04Speaker 1: New York, New York, and LISTA without an answer, Crane
- 12:07Speaker 1: saying New York, Cow saying New York Corey saying Minnesota
- 12:10Speaker 1: and Yana saying Minnesota. The correct answer is New York.
- 12:14Speaker 1: The geologic term Fingered Lakes refers to a long, narrow
- 12:18Speaker 1: lake in a deep glacial valley. Eleven water bodies make
- 12:22Speaker 1: up the Fingered Lakes region, and although they're known for
- 12:24Speaker 1: great fishing, the area is also famous for its wine
- 12:27Speaker 1: production because over four hundred wineries and vineyards surround the lakes.
- 12:32Speaker 1: We call those fjords where I'm from column what fiords?
- 12:39Speaker 1: The wineries are the lakes? That type of lake. My
- 12:43Speaker 1: grandpa grew up on a Seneca lake, Watkins. It's one
- 12:47Speaker 1: of the biggest woodstock, isn't that Watkins Glen? No? I
- 12:50Speaker 1: think woodstocks woodstock, It's not right. Question three the topics wildlife.
- 12:56Speaker 1: This next great question is from Brody Whitley. If you
- 12:59Speaker 1: have a question and you think he's right for meeting
- 13:00Speaker 1: and Trivia, you can send it to Trivia The mediator
- 13:03Speaker 1: dot COM's brown burned up like, oh, he's gonna do
- 13:06Speaker 1: a question? I submitted perfect What wild animal did President
- 13:11Speaker 1: Coolidge keep his a pet which he named Rebecca and
- 13:14Speaker 1: built a treehouse for? What wild animal did President Coolidge
- 13:22Speaker 1: keep his a pet? Which he named Rebecca and built
- 13:25Speaker 1: a treehouse. For quick answer from Mark, do you know it?
- 13:31Speaker 1: Just guess? Was Coolidge our largest president? I don't think
- 13:36Speaker 1: it wasn't taft kind of he was the three pound plus.
- 13:41Speaker 1: Wasn't there some story about him getting stuck in a bathtub? Up?
- 13:46Speaker 1: Coolidge was hard of the Depression, the Great Depression. It's good.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Hint again, what wild animal to president? Coolidge keeps a
- 13:58Speaker 1: pet which he named Rebecca and built a treehouse. Ford.
- 14:01Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? I'm gonna I'm gonna change
- 14:04Speaker 1: it real quick. Sorry, too much talking about to see
- 14:09Speaker 1: if cow regrets changing it. I'm gonna down across there
- 14:15Speaker 1: you go. Hayden, I don't know how to spell this one.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I don't want to turn this into an Eastern wolf situation.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Marcus saying raccoon,
- 14:25Speaker 1: Hayden saying servile cat, Bertie saying raccoon, Alyssa saying squirrel,
- 14:29Speaker 1: Krin saying peacock, cal saying squirrel, Corey saying chimpanzee, and
- 14:34Speaker 1: Janice saying koala. The correct answer is raccoon, raccoon. Now,
- 14:44Speaker 1: Rebecca was sent to the White House, in nineteen six
- 14:48Speaker 1: by a group in Mississippi. They intended for Coolidge to
- 14:51Speaker 1: serve her for Thanksgiving dinner, but the president said he
- 14:54Speaker 1: had no interest in eating a raccoon, so they made
- 14:57Speaker 1: her their pet instead. Rebecca was White House staple during
- 15:01Speaker 1: the Coolidge presidency, participating in the annual Easter egg hunt
- 15:05Speaker 1: and even vacationing with the family. What group sent a
- 15:09Speaker 1: group from Mississippi? It said, Now, this was when I
- 15:12Speaker 1: found a group of supporters sent her from Mississippi. But
- 15:18Speaker 1: that seems like something that you would like give an enemy,
- 15:21Speaker 1: like someone you don't like, is sending them a raccoon
- 15:23Speaker 1: to eat for Thanksgiving? Well? No, different times? Yeah, exactly,
- 15:28Speaker 1: I guess speaking of I mean of all people you
- 15:31Speaker 1: should know pardon my plate. You know it's become two
- 15:34Speaker 1: mainstream by Stephen Ronella and Clay Newcom cooking all those raccoons,
- 15:38Speaker 1: So it doesn't doesn't even fit for that show. Question
- 15:42Speaker 1: for the topic is cooking. How many spices are in
- 15:47Speaker 1: all spice? Again? How many spices are in all spice?
- 15:55Speaker 1: All spices? One word A L L S P I
- 15:58Speaker 1: C E. How many spices are in all spice? Some
- 16:04Speaker 1: quick answers from our fellas who have worked in the
- 16:07Speaker 1: restaurant industry before. Corey, you know this one, I hope,
- 16:11Speaker 1: so be honest. You know this one? No good. Everybody
- 16:17Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Marcus saying six, Haten saying five,
- 16:20Speaker 1: Brody's saying five, and Listen saying five, Kris saying five,
- 16:23Speaker 1: Kyl saying one, Corey saying five, and the honest saying one.
- 16:26Speaker 1: We have a correct answer in the room, and it
- 16:28Speaker 1: is one. All spice is a berry that's native to
- 16:35Speaker 1: evergreen trees in Central America. It's a versatile spice that
- 16:39Speaker 1: has notes of sweet and savory, making it a great
- 16:41Speaker 1: addition to pies, brin's and soups. If you want to
- 16:44Speaker 1: cook with it, try Danielle Pruitt's recipe for Caribbean goose
- 16:47Speaker 1: tacos that you can find on the mediator dot com.
- 16:49Speaker 1: You guys are all thinking of that Chinese powder. I
- 16:52Speaker 1: thought I thought it was an appropriation of spice. That's
- 16:57Speaker 1: what all spice is. One. I wanted the question five.
- 17:03Speaker 1: The topic is conservation. There are five states with three
- 17:09Speaker 1: or more federal fish hatcheries. Name one of them. Again,
- 17:16Speaker 1: there are five states with three or more federal fish hatcheries.
- 17:21Speaker 1: Name one of them. Now before anyone writes in saying
- 17:25Speaker 1: that I got this wrong or something, note the word
- 17:28Speaker 1: federal federal fish hatcheries. Five states with how many or
- 17:34Speaker 1: more three or more federal fish hatcheries you need to
- 17:38Speaker 1: name one of those states. Does everybody have an answer? Yeah,
- 17:45Speaker 1: go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Mark saying California,
- 17:48Speaker 1: Hayden saying New York, Brodie saying Washington, the LISTA saying Colorado,
- 17:52Speaker 1: Crant saying Washington, cal saying Washington, Corey saying Washington. In
- 17:55Speaker 1: the Honest saying Michigan. The correct answers are ras Ozona, Arkansas, Massachusetts, Michigan,
- 18:03Speaker 1: and Washington. So the room did pretty well a lot
- 18:07Speaker 1: of Washington's. I thought California was gonna go. Mark. Yeah,
- 18:12Speaker 1: there are seventy one national fish hatcheries that release over
- 18:15Speaker 1: one hundred million fish on an annual basis. About a
- 18:18Speaker 1: third of what they raise are threatened or endangered species.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Washington has the most federal hatcheres in America with ten.
- 18:27Speaker 1: So those of you that got it right got it
- 18:29Speaker 1: right with some authority. Phil, We're halfway through the game
- 18:32Speaker 1: at trivia hit us with a scoreboard update. Alright, we
- 18:35Speaker 1: have Alyssa and Corey with one point and that is
- 18:39Speaker 1: actually tied for third place there and then tied for
- 18:42Speaker 1: second place four ways. We have Mark, Janice Hayden and
- 18:46Speaker 1: Karan each with two and uh in first place tied
- 18:50Speaker 1: up again our Calan brodie before did I not say
- 18:56Speaker 1: to second place? There still in the game with Karan.
- 19:01Speaker 1: That's that's weird. California has five federally endangered runs of salmon.
- 19:08Speaker 1: It's big steak and it's a big state. Now the
- 19:11Speaker 1: Shelby Index. Uh, she got three and a half right.
- 19:14Speaker 1: She gave a shelf a half point somewhere I don't
- 19:16Speaker 1: remember where. So today's winner should get seven for remembering
- 19:20Speaker 1: Jim Carey was in that office episode that could have
- 19:23Speaker 1: been it. People get lost in the fingerlikes all the time.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Question six. The topic is fishing. This is our listener
- 19:39Speaker 1: question in the week, which was won by Jared Shaw
- 19:42Speaker 1: for sending this great question. Jared is going to get
- 19:44Speaker 1: a meat eat your hat that was signed by everyone
- 19:47Speaker 1: in the room. If you want a chance to win
- 19:48Speaker 1: the listener question in the week, then send your question
- 19:50Speaker 1: to Trivia at the Meat Eator dot com. This air
- 19:55Speaker 1: breathing fish, which goes by nicknames like swamp trout and mudpike,
- 20:00Speaker 1: is the last remaining member of its entire genus. What
- 20:03Speaker 1: is it? This air breathing fish, which goes by nicknames
- 20:10Speaker 1: like swamp trout and mudpike, is the last remaining member
- 20:14Speaker 1: of its entire genus? What is it? We have a
- 20:19Speaker 1: stumped room just seeing some answers getting written. Now, mm hmmm,
- 20:26Speaker 1: mm hmmm. Does everybody have an answer? Go ahead and
- 20:32Speaker 1: reveal your answers. We have Mark saying snakehead, Hayden saying both.
- 20:37Speaker 1: By saying both in a listen without an answer, Krim
- 20:39Speaker 1: saying guppy, Cal saying gar Corey saying carp and Jana
- 20:46Speaker 1: saying snakehead. The correct answer is both in both In
- 20:52Speaker 1: are some of the oldest freshwater fish in the world.
- 20:55Speaker 1: They first appeared in the fossil record in the Jurassic
- 20:57Speaker 1: era about two million years ago and haven't changed much since.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Other nicknames for them include grinners, grinnel's, cypress trout, mudfish,
- 21:06Speaker 1: cotton fish, and dog fish. God. That's a good question.
- 21:11Speaker 1: That's why it is our listener questions. Teeth man. I've
- 21:16Speaker 1: seen people have send me pictures because they like dry
- 21:19Speaker 1: their heads out and they're pretty impressive, like catch one shady.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Question seven, the topic is hunting. Named three of what
- 21:30Speaker 1: hunters referred to as the Big five game animals in Africa?
- 21:35Speaker 1: M hmm, you need to name three of what hunters
- 21:40Speaker 1: refer to as the Big five game animals in Africa.
- 21:45Speaker 1: I don't think anyone instrum is hunted in Africa. Cal No, nope,
- 21:52Speaker 1: Hm again, three of the Big five? Still some writing
- 21:58Speaker 1: from Corey and Marcus is not white. Has the Big
- 22:02Speaker 1: five been changed? I don't think so. I think the
- 22:06Speaker 1: term has been hijacked though by other groups. It's not
- 22:09Speaker 1: just a hunting term anymore, right, like the barnyard five
- 22:13Speaker 1: or whatever. That's a slam in Texas. Is everybody an answer?
- 22:18Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Mark saying elephant, buffalo, lion,
- 22:23Speaker 1: Hayden saying buffalo, lion, leopard, Brody saying buffalo, lion, elephant. Well,
- 22:27Speaker 1: this is saying lion, elephant, buffalo, Krand saying rhino elephant, lion,
- 22:31Speaker 1: Cal saying elephant, hippo, buffalo, Corey saying kudu buffalo elephant.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Jana saying lion, buffalo, and elephant. The room did very well.
- 22:42Speaker 1: The five are elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, and leopard. So
- 22:47Speaker 1: I think everybody except cal the hippo is the on
- 22:51Speaker 1: the list of dangerous game of like the most daint
- 22:55Speaker 1: what's the second last? Just that it kills a bunch
- 22:58Speaker 1: of people and so that is. But yeah, I was
- 23:03Speaker 1: wondering if they had changed it because of the rhino.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Did everybody else get it right? Well, now they got
- 23:08Speaker 1: They charged hunters to just go dardam and knock them out.
- 23:12Speaker 1: The Big Five were considered to be the most difficult
- 23:15Speaker 1: and dangerous animals to hunt on the continent. The term
- 23:18Speaker 1: was invented by hunters, but has since been adopted by
- 23:21Speaker 1: conservation groups and tourism businesses as a way to group
- 23:24Speaker 1: together Africa's megafauna. Run a question eight. We will get
- 23:29Speaker 1: a scoreboard update from Phil after this. This next great
- 23:32Speaker 1: question is from John Schlessinger. If you have a question
- 23:35Speaker 1: you think is right for meat Eator Trivia, you can
- 23:36Speaker 1: send it to trivia at the meat eator dot com.
- 23:39Speaker 1: This animal nearly triggered a nuclear attack response in nineteen
- 23:43Speaker 1: sixty two after it was climbing the fence of an
- 23:47Speaker 1: air force base near Duluth, Minnesota. This animal nearly triggered
- 23:54Speaker 1: a nuclear attack response in nineteen sixty two after it
- 23:58Speaker 1: was caught climbing the fence of an air force base
- 24:01Speaker 1: near Duluth, Minnesota. Are you confident over there? Well, I
- 24:06Speaker 1: can't say anything because it might give a clue if
- 24:09Speaker 1: you say yes. But I know like this thing, let
- 24:11Speaker 1: me just put it this way. I feel like this
- 24:12Speaker 1: has been covered before elsewhere? Am I right? Spencer? Get
- 24:17Speaker 1: to that in a minute. This animal nearly triggered a
- 24:21Speaker 1: nuclear attack response in nineteen sixty two after it was
- 24:24Speaker 1: caught climbing the fence of an air Force base near Duluth, Minnesota.
- 24:28Speaker 1: So like we were going to knuke ourselves Minnesota. That
- 24:35Speaker 1: doesn't make the rowskis were like coming for those wall
- 24:42Speaker 1: I in Minnesota. Does everybody have an answer? No, I'm
- 24:46Speaker 1: still going through the Big Five? Well, I think that
- 24:51Speaker 1: is The debate is like is the Big Five the
- 24:53Speaker 1: most marketable or is it the most dangerous? Cal you
- 24:57Speaker 1: got it wrong? Oh I'm I'm I'm he seeing my
- 25:00Speaker 1: romness and the truth. I'm in the quest for actual knowledge.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Like it there's there's no there's no uh pissing and
- 25:09Speaker 1: moaning about getting it wrong. I got it wrong. I'm
- 25:11Speaker 1: proud of it, Yanni. But do you have an answer?
- 25:20Speaker 1: How about now? Sure, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 25:23Speaker 1: We have Mark saying a possum, Hayden saying a possum,
- 25:27Speaker 1: Bertie saying a black bear, Alyssa is saying a skunk,
- 25:30Speaker 1: Karen saying a black bear, cal saying a black bear,
- 25:33Speaker 1: Corey saying a squirrel, and Janna saying a bear. He
- 25:36Speaker 1: correct answer is black bear. Here's what happened. A soldier
- 25:42Speaker 1: spotted a shadowy figure climbing a fence of the air
- 25:45Speaker 1: Force base shortly after midnight. He fired his pistol at
- 25:48Speaker 1: it and sounded a sabotage alarm that alerted nearby basis
- 25:52Speaker 1: that the Soviets were starting a ground attack. Then the
- 25:55Speaker 1: soldier realized that it was a black bear and canceled
- 25:58Speaker 1: the warning just before americ I sent nuclear armed aircraft
- 26:01Speaker 1: into flight. There's a lot more to this hilarious story
- 26:04Speaker 1: that you can read about in Jordan's Stiller's article by
- 26:07Speaker 1: going to the media dot com and typing in bar
- 26:09Speaker 1: room banter. The bear that almost caused World War three.
- 26:13Speaker 1: You know how like when you're riding around or hunting
- 26:15Speaker 1: with a new hunter and they're like, Okay, there's one.
- 26:17Speaker 1: They're real excited about it, and then it's not. It's
- 26:20Speaker 1: a rock or a stump or something. My response is
- 26:22Speaker 1: always like, hey, just proves that you're looking. I wonder
- 26:26Speaker 1: if the military had the same response. I doubt that
- 26:29Speaker 1: this guy got any credit for firing his pisto A
- 26:31Speaker 1: little black bear. Phil hit us with a scoreboard update. Uh,
- 26:35Speaker 1: let's say we've got two players still in it, and
- 26:37Speaker 1: I think we can guess which to Brody is in
- 26:41Speaker 1: first place with a strong seven points, and on his
- 26:43Speaker 1: tail with five points is cal So. Cal's got to
- 26:47Speaker 1: make a strong shot. So he has five calls five
- 26:51Speaker 1: rodio seven. So we need Brody, you get these last
- 26:52Speaker 1: two wrong, cale to get them right to go into
- 26:55Speaker 1: an overtime. Let's go for overtime again. Question nine. The
- 27:00Speaker 1: topic is woodsmanship. There are five states that have more
- 27:04Speaker 1: than sevent forest cover name one of them. Again, there
- 27:12Speaker 1: are five states that have more than sevent forest cover
- 27:16Speaker 1: name one of them. On a previous episode, we asked
- 27:19Speaker 1: for the least forested states. This time we're looking for
- 27:22Speaker 1: the most forested states. Quick answer from Jannice is because
- 27:29Speaker 1: you don't have the pressure of competing for the win. No.
- 27:33Speaker 1: I feel like this is uh Child's plans. Yeah, what
- 27:38Speaker 1: you call it a softball? Not a softball, but softball.
- 27:45Speaker 1: That King Jong Il hit seven feet longest home run
- 27:49Speaker 1: in the world name one Saturday name. Does he own
- 27:53Speaker 1: many world records? I think he's dead, um, but I'm
- 27:57Speaker 1: sure in North Korea he owns them all. Probably. No,
- 28:00Speaker 1: I'm sure I'm sure his son has a fear. Now right,
- 28:03Speaker 1: when you say forested states, do you mean like trees
- 28:07Speaker 1: or do you mean like unmolested like land? Whatever the
- 28:10Speaker 1: U s g S considers the most forested states. If
- 28:13Speaker 1: you were in that dictator position, I'd like you for
- 28:16Speaker 1: doing that. If I knew it was kind of like
- 28:18Speaker 1: an inside joke, like this is kind of funny, But
- 28:22Speaker 1: if you're serious about it, I wouldn't like you. Does
- 28:25Speaker 1: everybody have an answer? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 28:29Speaker 1: We have Mark saying Maine, Hayden saying Arkansas, Brody saying Maine,
- 28:33Speaker 1: Alyssa saying Alaska, Christ saying Vermont, cal saying Maine, Corey
- 28:37Speaker 1: saying Michigan, and Jana saying Washington. The correct answers are Maine,
- 28:42Speaker 1: New Hampshire, West Virginia, Vermont in Alabama. Oh cool. So
- 28:48Speaker 1: the room did well too well in that we now
- 28:51Speaker 1: have our winner with one question to go, and that
- 28:53Speaker 1: is Brodie Henderson. You know you know what Steve is
- 28:58Speaker 1: gonna say, what's that? But you have a strong going here.
- 29:04Speaker 1: I think you've you've gotten all but one right going
- 29:06Speaker 1: into the final question. Right, that's correct. So this one's
- 29:10Speaker 1: just for fun ziason to help everyone's average. Question ten,
- 29:14Speaker 1: the topic is hunting. What is the Cajun nickname for
- 29:19Speaker 1: coot that roughly translates to water hen in French? What
- 29:28Speaker 1: is the Cajun nickname for coot that roughly translates to
- 29:32Speaker 1: water hen in French? So is it a French word?
- 29:40Speaker 1: It's a French word, but the Cajun use it, I
- 29:43Speaker 1: don't think. Over in France they're saying this, what is
- 29:48Speaker 1: the Cajun nickname for coot that roughly translates to water
- 29:51Speaker 1: hen in French? But if you want to know more
- 29:56Speaker 1: about you can watch That's right, Brody, You're gonna go
- 30:02Speaker 1: nine percent here? Yeah, I think maybe if I'm close
- 30:07Speaker 1: enough on the spelling yeah, does everybody have an answer?
- 30:14Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Mark saying
- 30:16Speaker 1: the old hot lips, Hayden without an answer, saying what
- 30:20Speaker 1: does that say? Pulled though? Listen without an answer, Karin
- 30:27Speaker 1: saying what does that say? Karin cal saying pulled though?
- 30:33Speaker 1: You're saying that song Corey without an answer and answer.
- 30:38Speaker 1: The correct answer is pooled though. Is that how you
- 30:41Speaker 1: spell it? Close? It is p O U L D
- 30:44Speaker 1: E A U. Yeah, you're in America. Brody goes nine
- 30:52Speaker 1: for ten. It takes another victory. We just had a
- 30:54Speaker 1: game a hard time about going to over time. Well done,
- 30:59Speaker 1: bro do you? Thank you? Thank you? How do you
- 31:01Speaker 1: think Steve would have done in this game? You think
- 31:03Speaker 1: he'd got No, he'd have been in there. I think yeah,
- 31:06Speaker 1: but he's impressive and it would have taken twice as long. Brodie,
- 31:11Speaker 1: who are you gonna give your five back of that board?
- 31:14Speaker 1: And I'll make a decision. I wasn't really thinking about
- 31:17Speaker 1: it now. Brody is referencing the back of our massive
- 31:22Speaker 1: mediat Or trophy, which has twenty five conservation organizations on
- 31:26Speaker 1: it that you can choose from. Again, thank you, Ed
- 31:30Speaker 1: Newman for creating this masterpiece of a trophy. So, Brodie,
- 31:34Speaker 1: who's it going to be? Uh, what what category are
- 31:39Speaker 1: you looking at? You're looking like public lands, fishing, undulates birds.
- 31:44Speaker 1: I'm not aligned with anything, so he's not even I'm
- 31:48Speaker 1: just looking at all the cool logos. Um, let's do
- 31:54Speaker 1: the Western Bear Foundation. The Western Bear Foundation. I think
- 31:58Speaker 1: that's the second donation. I can change it if we
- 32:02Speaker 1: want to edit. But give Caloriason why because that like
- 32:08Speaker 1: bears there you go? Good enough for me? Does that
- 32:13Speaker 1: satisfy you? Cal Well, it's kind of like throwing your
- 32:15Speaker 1: money at white tail, you know, it's like they're just fine.
- 32:21Speaker 1: Remember all that private land. I should change that. No, no, no,
- 32:26Speaker 1: the Western Bear Foundation is not throwing money at white
- 32:29Speaker 1: tails or bears. Is throwing money at the right to
- 32:33Speaker 1: hunt bears, I believe more so. Yeah, which I think
- 32:37Speaker 1: out of everything that we hunt, maybe might be the
- 32:39Speaker 1: thing that's what do we need to like? Do this? No,
- 32:42Speaker 1: this is great. I'm also convinced they're never going to
- 32:44Speaker 1: get another donation unless Clay Newcomb wins. Good on you,
- 32:49Speaker 1: Brody for picking the Western Bear Foundation. You satisfied, cal
- 32:56Speaker 1: I don't know, And that's the sighting ends, the only
- 33:03Speaker 1: game show where conservation always wins a nice bird. Everything's fine.
