- 0:13Speaker 1: as we meet the players selected by the Bengals on
- 0:16Speaker 1: Day three of the draft and then break down the
- 0:19Speaker 1: entire class with Assistant GM Trey Brown. The Bengals Booth
- 0:24Speaker 1: Podcast is brought to you by pay Corps, proud to

- 0:41Speaker 1: the official healthcare provider of the Bengals. Now let's get
- 0:45Speaker 1: to Day three of the draft. At the start of
- 0:48Speaker 1: the day, the Bengals had the tenth pick of the
- 0:50Speaker 1: fourth round, but they didn't keep it. They traded it
- 0:53Speaker 1: to the Jets, moving back eighteen spots with that pick
- 0:58Speaker 1: in order to move way up with an another pick
- 1:00Speaker 1: later in the draft, climbing from number one ninety nine
- 1:04Speaker 1: overall in the sixth round to the final pick of
- 1:07Speaker 1: the fourth round, number one forty overall. With their first
- 1:12Speaker 1: fourth round pick, the Bengals selected Auburn center Connor Lou.
- 1:17Speaker 1: He's sixty three, three ten and doesn't turn twenty one.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Until August, Lou was the number seventy six player on
- 1:25Speaker 1: the Consensus Big Board, and Cincinnati got him with pick
- 1:29Speaker 1: number one, twenty eight, representing tremendous value. So why was
- 1:34Speaker 1: he still there? Well, Lou tore his ACL in October,
- 1:39Speaker 1: but it's optimistic that he'll be good to go in
- 1:42Speaker 1: time for training camp.
- 1:43Speaker 2: The need is great. I mean I haven't had any setbacks,
- 1:45Speaker 2: any problems. If anything, I'm a little bit ahead of
- 1:48Speaker 2: schedule with the recovery timeline, so we're thinking I'll be
- 1:52Speaker 2: one hundred percent for camp. The thing was, I just
- 1:54Speaker 2: felt ready, you know. I talked to the people close
- 1:57Speaker 2: to me, talked to my coaches, and you know, it's
- 1:59Speaker 2: always a dreamline to play in the NFL and get
- 2:01Speaker 2: an opportunity, and you know, I felt ready.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Connor Lou addressed the need. Ted Karras is thirty three
- 2:08Speaker 1: and in the final year of his contract. The only
- 2:11Speaker 1: other center on the roster, Jacob Bayer, finished last season
- 2:15Speaker 1: on the Bengals practice squad but has never appeared in
- 2:18Speaker 1: a regular season game. Here are assistant GM Steve Ordisovic
- 2:24Speaker 1: Zach Taylor and offensive coordinator Dan Pitcher on Connor lou.
- 2:28Speaker 3: He's a team captain at Auburn. He's a two and
- 2:31Speaker 3: a half year starter there at Auburn.
- 2:33Speaker 2: His movement and.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Pass protection is really good. He can anchor down versus
- 2:37Speaker 3: the bull. He's a good athlete in the run game,
- 2:40Speaker 3: he can get out in space, he's a good zone blocker.
- 2:44Speaker 3: So obviously his ability's there, but really what stood out
- 2:48Speaker 3: the most was just his character's personality, what he's going
- 2:51Speaker 3: to bring to the locker room, his energy, the juice
- 2:53Speaker 3: that he'll bring to the rest of the guys.
- 2:55Speaker 4: And so yeah, we're excited about that edition there with him.
- 2:58Speaker 5: Think you back, I was chert freshman and junior college
- 3:00Speaker 5: when I was twenty one years old, So to be
- 3:02Speaker 5: twenty going in the NFL, a lot of upside in
- 3:05Speaker 5: front of him, you know. And so again to have
- 3:06Speaker 5: played two and a half years as a starting center
- 3:08Speaker 5: in the SEC. We feel really good about his progression
- 3:12Speaker 5: off the injury he's had and pitching. Our line coaches
- 3:16Speaker 5: have spent time with the makeup part of it in
- 3:19Speaker 5: the interview process and really stood on the table for
- 3:22Speaker 5: him that way. They're just going to fit in great
- 3:24Speaker 5: locker room, a line room, which is critical for us,
- 3:27Speaker 5: and so really excited to add him to the mix
- 3:29Speaker 5: and get him in their competing.
- 3:30Speaker 6: He does not feel like a twenty year old. He
- 3:33Speaker 6: was asked to do a lot of the things that
- 3:34Speaker 6: we ask our center to do when it comes to
- 3:38Speaker 6: getting in and out of protections and readjusting Mike points
- 3:42Speaker 6: in the run game. Basically everything you have to be
- 3:44Speaker 6: able to do to function as the center at this level,
- 3:45Speaker 6: he's already been asked to do, and he can articulate
- 3:47Speaker 6: that at a really high level, and it's confident when
- 3:50Speaker 6: he does it. You can tell some guys guess the
- 3:53Speaker 6: guess at the right answer when they're talking to you.
- 3:55Speaker 6: Some guys know the right answer. Connor knows the right answer,
- 3:59Speaker 6: and so that puts it ees for a young player.
- 4:01Speaker 6: And then physically he just fits us. He's big, he's
- 4:04Speaker 6: wide bodied, he's stout in protection. Steve already kind of
- 4:06Speaker 6: hit all the traits. So yeah, I mean, just fortunate,
- 4:10Speaker 6: fortunate to be able to bring him in when when
- 4:12Speaker 6: when we did, and can't wait to work with him.
- 4:15Speaker 1: With the extra fourth round pick obtained from the Jets,
- 4:18Speaker 1: the Bengals selected wide receiver Colby Young out of Georgia.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Young is a big targeted roughly six four two twenty
- 4:26Speaker 1: and ran a four four at the combine. Once again,
- 4:31Speaker 1: in a different order, here are Dan Pitcher, Zach Taylor,
- 4:34Speaker 1: and Steve Rodisovik.
- 4:35Speaker 6: He's a guy you go down there in person, you
- 4:38Speaker 6: stand next to him, and he just feels like a
- 4:42Speaker 6: starting NFL wide receiver.
- 4:43Speaker 4: He's built that way.
- 4:46Speaker 6: His physical skill set is that of a starting NFL
- 4:49Speaker 6: wide receiver. And then when you spend time around him,
- 4:53Speaker 6: which we have and you know, multiple different touch points
- 4:56Speaker 6: through this process, you really get an appreciation for his
- 4:59Speaker 6: football intelligence, his love of the game, all the things
- 5:04Speaker 6: that are going to make him a really good pro
- 5:07Speaker 6: on top of what he's been gifted with physically. So
- 5:10Speaker 6: I would just say it's not often that you get
- 5:14Speaker 6: a chance to add a player with the combination of
- 5:16Speaker 6: those things at the at the level that we added
- 5:19Speaker 6: him at, at the time we added him at.
- 5:21Speaker 5: So really excited that length, that speed, the competition he's faced.
- 5:28Speaker 5: He's just he's a great fit for what we do.
- 5:30Speaker 5: You know, we like to throw the football, and so
- 5:32Speaker 5: the more guys that I think can be added and
- 5:34Speaker 5: viewed his weapons is a really good thing for us.
- 5:38Speaker 5: And so you know, we've got guys with a lot
- 5:40Speaker 5: of length. We got a lot of those guys. You know,
- 5:41Speaker 5: you look at t and Dre and now Kolbe and
- 5:46Speaker 5: you look at the tight endsseque. So I feel really
- 5:50Speaker 5: good about the room we've created there with both that
- 5:52Speaker 5: tight end room and the receiver room.
- 5:53Speaker 3: He's what you want physically like, he has all the
- 5:55Speaker 3: physical trade type, weight, speed, He's a big possession receiver,
- 6:00Speaker 3: really good and contested situations. Probably one of the things
- 6:03Speaker 3: that stick out the most when you're watching him is
- 6:05Speaker 3: I would say his toughness and him his willingness to
- 6:08Speaker 3: block in the run game, and he is tough after
- 6:11Speaker 3: the catch, So you know, he definitely was in terms
- 6:13Speaker 3: of ability, was up there for us.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Young missed six games with a fibula injury last year,
- 6:19Speaker 1: and the Bengals also had to do their due diligence
- 6:21Speaker 1: on his background. He was arrested on misdemeanor charges of
- 6:25Speaker 1: battery and assault in twenty twenty four and suspended early
- 6:29Speaker 1: that season, but the accuser retracted her statement and the
- 6:34Speaker 1: initial charges were dropped. Georgia welcomed him back to the
- 6:38Speaker 1: team and gave the Bengals a strong character recommendation for
- 6:42Speaker 1: them to.
- 6:43Speaker 7: Take me in this round, this pick right now. There's
- 6:45Speaker 7: just nothing but love and respect for them. I respect
- 6:47Speaker 7: that they looked at the individual that they're actually getting
- 6:51Speaker 7: and that's not portrayed on the internet social media. Big
- 6:54Speaker 7: and a guy who's ready to work for them to
- 6:57Speaker 7: trust me and take me on.
- 6:58Speaker 8: This pick right now.
- 7:00Speaker 7: Nothing below for Cincinnati.
- 7:02Speaker 9: Big, physical receiver, do it all complete.
- 7:04Speaker 7: Inside and outside. Just a guy who reliable with hands,
- 7:08Speaker 7: can catch everything that comes his way, has good top
- 7:11Speaker 7: end speed, and just a hungry Tanasis guy who was
- 7:13Speaker 7: ready to work.
- 7:14Speaker 1: The Bengals didn't have a fifth round pick. In the
- 7:17Speaker 1: sixth they selected a Cincinnati kid, duke offensive lineman Brian Parker,
- 7:23Speaker 1: who attended Saint Xavier High School. Again, it represented great value.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Parker was number one eleven on the Consensus Big Board
- 7:31Speaker 1: and the Bengals landed him with pick number one point
- 7:34Speaker 1: eighty nine. Draft guru Dan Brugler gave him a fourth
- 7:38Speaker 1: round grade.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Here's Zach Taylor.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Brian Parker has a lot of flexibility amongst the offensive
- 7:44Speaker 5: line vocal guys. Nax Grad played at duke and so
- 7:47Speaker 5: we just feel like there's a lot of flexibility there
- 7:50Speaker 5: to play tackle, guard, center. He can really play all
- 7:52Speaker 5: five positions for you, so ready for him to get
- 7:54Speaker 5: in here and compete. He has five position flexibility and
- 7:59Speaker 5: that's one of the trades that I really like about him.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Parker was a center in high school and a tackle
- 8:05Speaker 1: in college, and he's delighted to be coming home.
- 8:08Speaker 9: Obviously huge, you know, sat next guy grew up playing
- 8:11Speaker 9: football in Cincinnati, have a lot of friends there, and
- 8:14Speaker 9: when they said it was going to be the Bengals,
- 8:16Speaker 9: it's one of the It's one of the better feelings
- 8:18Speaker 9: in the world, you know, getting to go back to
- 8:19Speaker 9: your hometown team and put on that orange and black
- 8:23Speaker 9: and get ready.
- 8:24Speaker 2: For who Day Nation.
- 8:25Speaker 9: Obviously, my measurables on lengthwise and stuff aren't most ideal
- 8:29Speaker 9: for tackle, but I feel like my ability has allowed
- 8:31Speaker 9: me to play out there, and I've showed that against
- 8:32Speaker 9: top talent my college career. But if playing inside you
- 8:36Speaker 9: get me on the field the quickest, That's what I'll do,
- 8:38Speaker 9: and that's what that's what the team needs, That's what
- 8:40Speaker 9: I'll do. And uh, yeah, I played center in high
- 8:43Speaker 9: school for Saint X. Was recruited to play center out
- 8:44Speaker 9: of high school, got to college and moved me to tackle,
- 8:47Speaker 9: So I've done it before. I moved around, became an
- 8:49Speaker 9: All American, So I feel confident in my abilities and
- 8:52Speaker 9: just excited to get the opportunity.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Were the first of two seventh round picks. The Bengals
- 8:56Speaker 1: selected tight end Jack Endres, who spent most of his
- 8:59Speaker 1: college career at Cal before finishing it last season at Texas.
- 9:04Speaker 1: The Bengals like his potential under the tutelage of tight
- 9:08Speaker 1: ends coach James Casey.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Really good career, you know, two years at Cal playing
- 9:13Speaker 5: with Mendoza, then he went to Texas, had a productive
- 9:16Speaker 5: view there as well. Sweet think it's really good with
- 9:18Speaker 5: our room to come in here and compete in all phases,
- 9:22Speaker 5: you know, special teams, run game, pass game. I feel
- 9:26Speaker 5: like he's got a really high ceiling there to come
- 9:28Speaker 5: in there and fits in well with that group of
- 9:30Speaker 5: James and get into the room and compete and go
- 9:32Speaker 5: from there. You know, I think that there's just a
- 9:34Speaker 5: lot of value there, a lot of production over the
- 9:36Speaker 5: three years he's played college football, started a lot of
- 9:38Speaker 5: football games. Still some upside there with him as well.
- 9:43Speaker 5: James spent time with him, went to the Pro day.
- 9:46Speaker 5: He has interacted with him a lot. Our scouts that
- 9:49Speaker 5: have been down there as well, just have a lot
- 9:51Speaker 5: of belief in him.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Andrees was number one twenty eight on the Consensus Big
- 9:55Speaker 1: Board and got a fourth or fifth round grade from Brugler.
- 9:59Speaker 1: He did not tied his disappointment after being taken with
- 10:02Speaker 1: a fifth pick of the seventh round.
- 10:05Speaker 10: I'm gonna make sure I'll make every team we didn't
- 10:07Speaker 10: contract me pay, to be honest with you, jocking every
- 10:10Speaker 10: person he was, every tighter was taken before me, Everything
- 10:13Speaker 10: that passed out on me, and you know, every game
- 10:15Speaker 10: I'm gonna play is just going to be trying to,
- 10:18Speaker 10: you know, do some bad things the other players.
- 10:22Speaker 8: I'm so grateful for the Bengals to taking a stance
- 10:24Speaker 8: on me.
- 10:25Speaker 1: The Bengals final pick was defensive tackle Landon Robinson out
- 10:28Speaker 1: of Navy. He enrolled as a two hundred and forty
- 10:31Speaker 1: pound linebacker and developed into a two hundred and ninety
- 10:35Speaker 1: pound defensive tackle. That's still smallish by NFL standards, but
- 10:41Speaker 1: Robinson has tremendous strength and was named the AAC Defensive
- 10:45Speaker 1: Player of the Year when he had six and a
- 10:47Speaker 1: half sacks last season.
- 10:49Speaker 5: It's just too good to pass up, you know. I
- 10:51Speaker 5: know we were I have addressed the detackle position with
- 10:53Speaker 5: the trade. I feel like we have a really good
- 10:56Speaker 5: room there, but it's just one of those guys just
- 10:59Speaker 5: too good to pass up. You're sitting there in the
- 11:01Speaker 5: seventh round and you have a great player there that
- 11:04Speaker 5: you really like. We've had them in the building before
- 11:07Speaker 5: and just felt like we needed Adam to make some
- 11:10Speaker 5: that I'm come in here and compete. Checked every box
- 11:13Speaker 5: along the way, you know, and so I think you
- 11:14Speaker 5: just they liked him on the tape, they liked the
- 11:17Speaker 5: character reports, and then every time people got around them,
- 11:19Speaker 5: it just kept increasing in value. And then you're again,
- 11:22Speaker 5: you're sitting there in the seventh round and you want
- 11:24Speaker 5: this guy to come in here and be sinceame Bang.
- 11:25Speaker 1: College football writer Bruce Feldman puts out an annual Freaks
- 11:29Speaker 1: list of the one hundred most athletic players in the country.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Robinson made that list each of the last three years.
- 11:38Speaker 8: I think my play style, my speed, my quickness, my
- 11:41Speaker 8: ability to just.
- 11:43Speaker 7: Be quick and fast.
- 11:44Speaker 8: They use my strength to be able to get in
- 11:47Speaker 8: the backfield, but also use my natural leverage to be
- 11:49Speaker 8: able to be stirty in the run game, and they
- 11:51Speaker 8: just use that to just go and make plays. You know,
- 11:55Speaker 8: the Naval Academy it's a leadership laboratory. So being able
- 11:58Speaker 8: to be there, to go to the Naval Academy and
- 12:01Speaker 8: just have the background that I've had, it's just truly
- 12:03Speaker 8: a blessing. So I'm thankful for it.
- 12:05Speaker 1: Between this draft class, free agency and the massive trade
- 12:09Speaker 1: for a massive man and dexter Lawrence Zach Taylor likes
- 12:13Speaker 1: his roster.
- 12:14Speaker 5: It really couldn't be Hecker. Or from a talent standpoint,
- 12:18Speaker 5: we're in really good police. From a leadership standpoint, we're
- 12:21Speaker 5: in a really good police. Okay, now now you have
- 12:23Speaker 5: to actually go do the work. It's fun to talk
- 12:27Speaker 5: about this stuff in the off season. This is where
- 12:30Speaker 5: we are up to this point. There's no work we
- 12:32Speaker 5: could have really done on the field or anything like that,
- 12:34Speaker 5: or from a chemistry standpoint. So now now it's up
- 12:36Speaker 5: to the players and the coaches to put it all together.
- 12:39Speaker 5: And so that's going to require a lot of work
- 12:40Speaker 5: on the field, in the locker room, off the field.
- 12:44Speaker 5: But I'm excited about the group that we're gonna go
- 12:46Speaker 5: do it with.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Up next an overview of the draft with a member
- 12:50Speaker 1: of the front office. But first, here's a quick reminder
- 12:53Speaker 1: that the Bengals Booth podcast is brought to you by
- 12:55Speaker 1: pay Corps, Proud to be the Bengals official HR software provider,
- 13:00Speaker 1: by Alta Fiber future proof Fiber Internet designed to elevate
- 13:03Speaker 1: your home, business and community to a new level, and
- 13:07Speaker 1: by Kettering Health the best care for the best fans.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Kettering Health is the official healthcare provider of the Bengals.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Now here's my conversation with Assistant GM Trey Brown. Trey,
- 13:20Speaker 1: let's start with the trade that you guys made with
- 13:23Speaker 1: the Jets early on Day three. You moved back eighteen
- 13:26Speaker 1: spots in the fourth round in order to move up
- 13:29Speaker 1: fifty nine spots later in the draft from the sixth
- 13:32Speaker 1: round to the fourth. Describe the significance of that move,
- 13:37Speaker 1: particularly in what it allowed you to get with that
- 13:40Speaker 1: second pick.
- 13:41Speaker 11: Well, it was a great move, we felt, because we
- 13:45Speaker 11: had a stack of guys and we were trying to
- 13:50Speaker 11: determine which guy to take. Ideally, we'd like to have
- 13:53Speaker 11: a couple of those guys, and so we wanted to
- 13:55Speaker 11: get an opportunity out of those stack of guys to
- 13:58Speaker 11: come away with two really good plays, and so we're
- 14:01Speaker 11: trying to make calls and trying to trying to figure
- 14:03Speaker 11: out a position ourselves the best way to come out
- 14:06Speaker 11: with two of the guys in that particular stack that
- 14:10Speaker 11: we had fourth round grades or even better. And we
- 14:14Speaker 11: called a couple of teams.
- 14:16Speaker 4: Some of the.
- 14:17Speaker 11: Trades didn't work out, some did, and once the Jets
- 14:21Speaker 11: made the offer and we felt good about what we
- 14:24Speaker 11: were getting back for going from that sixth round pick
- 14:27Speaker 11: and basically swapping it for a fourth we knew we
- 14:30Speaker 11: would have a good chance to be able to get
- 14:32Speaker 11: some of the targeted guys there.
- 14:34Speaker 4: You kind of got to wait from there. You know.
- 14:36Speaker 11: We were able to come off with, you know, starting
- 14:38Speaker 11: in the fourth round with Connor lu who we felt
- 14:41Speaker 11: really good about, who was a high targeted guy for
- 14:44Speaker 11: us and throughout the process, and then we also wanted
- 14:46Speaker 11: to come away with a dominant wide receiver that can
- 14:49Speaker 11: play outside, inside and have an impact for the offense
- 14:53Speaker 11: with Colby Young.
- 14:54Speaker 4: So it worked out, you know, according to our plan.
- 14:57Speaker 11: It doesn't always work like that, but in this particular case,
- 15:01Speaker 11: it was ideal in terms of how the outcome and
- 15:04Speaker 11: with the two players that we got there with those
- 15:06Speaker 11: two picks.
- 15:07Speaker 1: Zach Taylor spoke to reporters after the draft. He was asked,
- 15:11Speaker 1: how does the roster look now compared to the end
- 15:13Speaker 1: of the season. His answer was, I couldn't be happier.
- 15:17Speaker 1: Would your answer be similar to that question.
- 15:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so.
- 15:20Speaker 11: I think we were excited about all the guys we've
- 15:25Speaker 11: added this offseason, both a free agency and in the draft.
- 15:28Speaker 11: I think we've added guys with great leadership, great in tangibles.
- 15:33Speaker 11: I think we've had a good mix of veteran leadership
- 15:37Speaker 11: with the incoming youth. I think we hit on some
- 15:40Speaker 11: key positions in terms of what we wanted to focus
- 15:43Speaker 11: on this offseason. I think I said it the other
- 15:45Speaker 11: day when we were speaking with the group of you know,
- 15:47Speaker 11: trying to find guys that can affect the quarterback, apply
- 15:51Speaker 11: pressure on the QB position, apply pressure on the offense.
- 15:55Speaker 11: And I think we did that on the defensive side
- 15:57Speaker 11: of the ball. But then we also were able to
- 15:59Speaker 11: get a lot of our guys back that we wanted
- 16:01Speaker 11: to on the offense side of the ball that are
- 16:03Speaker 11: key that are key pieces for us to have success
- 16:06Speaker 11: there and then and also added some key pieces on
- 16:09Speaker 11: offense throughout the draft process this weekend. So I think
- 16:13Speaker 11: when when you look at it, it never works out ideal.
- 16:17Speaker 4: And you know, perfect.
- 16:18Speaker 11: But I think what we came away with during this
- 16:20Speaker 11: offseason we feel really good about and I think the
- 16:24Speaker 11: coaching staff is going to have a great time, you know,
- 16:27Speaker 11: utilizing all those guys traits that we collected this offseason.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Trey, after you took Casius Howell with your first pick
- 16:35Speaker 1: this year, I found myself thinking about college bowl games
- 16:38Speaker 1: in this sense. A lot of times when a quote
- 16:42Speaker 1: unquote underdog plays a bigger school in a bowl game,
- 16:45Speaker 1: at the end of that game, people say, well, they
- 16:47Speaker 1: just don't have the defensive linemen that the bigger schools have.
- 16:52Speaker 1: You went out and signed boy A Mafe and Jonathan Allen,
- 16:55Speaker 1: You traded for Dexter Lawrence. You used your top draft
- 16:58Speaker 1: capital on an edge rush. Sure in Casius Howell. Did
- 17:01Speaker 1: you guys basically say as a scouting department front office staff,
- 17:06Speaker 1: we are going to attack the defensive line this offseason.
- 17:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I think we.
- 17:13Speaker 11: I think we did that was that was a big
- 17:15Speaker 11: goal of ours, is to add guys that make offenses
- 17:23Speaker 11: very uncomfortable.
- 17:24Speaker 4: And I think all those guys you name, that's what
- 17:26Speaker 4: they do.
- 17:27Speaker 11: I don't think anybody, whether it be offensive players or
- 17:30Speaker 11: offensive coordinators or offensive coaches in this league don't you know,
- 17:35Speaker 11: recognize what we've done in terms of what those guys
- 17:38Speaker 11: are going to do in terms of being disruptive, penetrating,
- 17:41Speaker 11: you know, setting the edge, also getting on the edge inside.
- 17:45Speaker 11: And I think guys that we've added, like you know, Dexter, Lawrence,
- 17:47Speaker 11: Jonathan Allen, those guys are impact players inside boy mafe
- 17:52Speaker 11: as as an elite skill set, high pressure rate, guys
- 17:57Speaker 11: that affect the quarterback. I think we I think we
- 18:00Speaker 11: did that accomplish that, and then you add some of
- 18:02Speaker 11: the youth like we like you mentioned with cash as
- 18:04Speaker 11: how I mean, the guy was dominant in terms of
- 18:06Speaker 11: getting after the quarterback. And then the quarterbacks we play
- 18:09Speaker 11: in this league and the quarterbacks we play. In terms
- 18:12Speaker 11: of you know, getting to where we want to get to,
- 18:14Speaker 11: getting in the playoffs, making the Super Bowl run, you're
- 18:17Speaker 11: gonna have to face some really dominant guys on offense.
- 18:19Speaker 11: And we feel you can never have too many, you know,
- 18:23Speaker 11: pressure players. You can never have too many disruptors. And
- 18:27Speaker 11: I think that's what we did. And I think when
- 18:29Speaker 11: you know, we talked to Al, he always mentions like,
- 18:31Speaker 11: you want to have guys that come in waves, And
- 18:34Speaker 11: I think that's.
- 18:34Speaker 4: What we did.
- 18:35Speaker 11: I think we got really good depth at where we
- 18:37Speaker 11: are currently and we're gonna have some core guys here
- 18:40Speaker 11: that have been here over the last couple of years
- 18:42Speaker 11: that are gonna ascend as well with being you know,
- 18:46Speaker 11: in the in the defense for their second time with
- 18:48Speaker 11: Al this year.
- 18:50Speaker 1: Cash just doesn't look like some of the defensive ends
- 18:53Speaker 1: that the Bengals have used high draft picks on in
- 18:55Speaker 1: the past, Miles Murphy, Shamar Stewart, even going back to
- 18:58Speaker 1: somebody like Carlos Dunn, a little smaller, little twitchier. Did
- 19:03Speaker 1: you want to add a guy like that to the
- 19:06Speaker 1: mix or was it just this is a player we like.
- 19:10Speaker 11: I think when you look over the history of pass rushers,
- 19:16Speaker 11: one thing is true. They come in all different shapes
- 19:20Speaker 11: and sizes, height, weight, long arms, short arms. Really, we're
- 19:25Speaker 11: just looking for winners, guys. When I'm saying when I
- 19:28Speaker 11: talk about winners, I mean winning at the quarterback, finishing
- 19:31Speaker 11: at the quarterback, getting the quarterback down on the ground.
- 19:34Speaker 11: And I think, whatever you want to say about Cash
- 19:37Speaker 11: is how his size his measurable. So when you turn
- 19:40Speaker 11: on the tape, the guy is electric. He really creates
- 19:44Speaker 11: havoc on the defense. He puts a lot of pressure
- 19:47Speaker 11: on offensive liignment. You know, those guys are in their stands,
- 19:51Speaker 11: you know when you watch the college tape and they're
- 19:54Speaker 11: scared to death. We are hoping that's going to translate
- 19:57Speaker 11: to what we want to do here in the NFL.
- 20:00Speaker 11: And he has all the athletic ability, the right mindset,
- 20:04Speaker 11: the physicality to do so.
- 20:06Speaker 4: And we have high hopes for our Cashes coming forward.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I got to meet Takario Bobo Davis today. He's the
- 20:13Speaker 1: tallest corner I've ever met in a Cincinnati Bengals uniform.
- 20:17Speaker 1: How refined is his game, because obviously the height and
- 20:20Speaker 1: the reach and the speed are a pretty rare package.
- 20:25Speaker 4: It is, and he's not developmental. He's ready to go.
- 20:29Speaker 11: He's a guy that's actually played a lot of football
- 20:32Speaker 11: since he's entered college. He's he came in and played
- 20:35Speaker 11: right away at Arizona as a true freshman. He was
- 20:39Speaker 11: able to play there over the course of his career
- 20:42Speaker 11: at Arizona and then made the transfer to Washington, so
- 20:45Speaker 11: he has real snaps. He's also battled through a little
- 20:49Speaker 11: bit of adversity in terms of some injuries this last year.
- 20:52Speaker 11: So he would be even more productive if he had those,
- 20:56Speaker 11: you know, more reps. And he didn't get banged up,
- 20:58Speaker 11: but he was able to come back from that.
- 21:00Speaker 4: He battled through that.
- 21:02Speaker 11: And this is a guy that's been very productive when
- 21:04Speaker 11: he's in man de man coverage and very disruptive at
- 21:07Speaker 11: the catchpoint. A lot has to do with that. A
- 21:10Speaker 11: lot has to do with his athletic skill set, which
- 21:12Speaker 11: is rare. He's long, he's fast, he's tough, he has
- 21:16Speaker 11: good ball skills. He has very very very high press
- 21:22Speaker 11: press man.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Skills that we look for.
- 21:25Speaker 11: We feel like in order to play outside corner in
- 21:28Speaker 11: this league, and you have to be able to match
- 21:32Speaker 11: up in man de man, especially in gotta have at moments,
- 21:36Speaker 11: and we feel like he's got the skill.
- 21:37Speaker 4: Set to do it.
- 21:38Speaker 1: We're visiting with assistant GM Trey Brown. Let's talk about
- 21:41Speaker 1: the picks today. Your first pick on Day three was
- 21:45Speaker 1: Auburn center Connor lou He doesn't turn twenty one until August.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Ted Krris is thirty three, still playing well, maybe he'll
- 21:53Speaker 1: keep playing for several more years. But do you look
- 21:55Speaker 1: at Connor Lou as a guy who will be good
- 21:58Speaker 1: enough to potentially succeed Ted Karris is your center.
- 22:03Speaker 11: Well, we look at it with you know, like you said,
- 22:05Speaker 11: on Connor's youth, as a perfect position for Connor to
- 22:10Speaker 11: come in and maximize his value. We have a really
- 22:13Speaker 11: good core of offensive linemen there, obviously starting with Ted
- 22:16Speaker 11: in the middle there, but also some great leadership with
- 22:19Speaker 11: Orlando Brown and you know, and and and some of
- 22:23Speaker 11: the guys that we've added there to that offensive line
- 22:25Speaker 11: group where it's a very very, I guess, impactful group
- 22:29Speaker 11: for younger players. And you know, Connor is coming off
- 22:33Speaker 11: of injury. He's you know, dealt with the acl that
- 22:35Speaker 11: he had in college that he's getting back from. But
- 22:39Speaker 11: while while he's attacking his rehab, he's also attacking the
- 22:43Speaker 11: playbook and learning the game. And he's a really good athlete.
- 22:46Speaker 11: He's very instinctive, and he has a good skill set
- 22:50Speaker 11: for the center position. So we have high hopes for
- 22:52Speaker 11: Connor going forward, and we have the right room to
- 22:55Speaker 11: get him there.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Your next fourth round pick was ride receiver Colby Jung
- 22:59Speaker 1: out of Georgia, A six' four wide receiver out Of,
- 23:03Speaker 1: GEORGIA i can think OF Aj. Green are there some
- 23:06Speaker 1: comps there in terms of his skill?
- 23:08Speaker 11: Set, WELL i think the comps are guys that can
- 23:11Speaker 11: finish on the, football and that's what matters at the
- 23:15Speaker 11: end of the day in this. League when the balls
- 23:17Speaker 11: in the, air can you come down with the? Catch
- 23:19Speaker 11: And kobe has proven that each year that we've studied
- 23:23Speaker 11: them in. College he's a guy even if the guy
- 23:26Speaker 11: is on, him even if the guy has tight coverage
- 23:29Speaker 11: a lot of times is not. Enough he's, long he's,
- 23:32Speaker 11: Physical he's got really good body. Control there's times on
- 23:35Speaker 11: tape where he can twist and adjust and come down
- 23:39Speaker 11: with the. Catch he's also a guy that has versatility
- 23:42Speaker 11: to play inside and outside because what he does as
- 23:46Speaker 11: a blocker the man is. Physical and when you have
- 23:49Speaker 11: a guy that can go inside be an impact in
- 23:51Speaker 11: the run, game but also can win in one on one,
- 23:55Speaker 11: situations that's what we look. For we feel Like kobe
- 23:58Speaker 11: can play outside and be be a mismatch, problem but
- 24:02Speaker 11: also can line up inside and be a mismatch problem as.
- 24:05Speaker 11: Well SO i think he's going to be a really
- 24:07Speaker 11: good you, know he has a really good skill set
- 24:11Speaker 11: for all our quarterbacks when you're just trying to get the.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Ball to him and let him make a.
- 24:15Speaker 11: Play and he's been productive doing, that AND i think
- 24:18Speaker 11: he'll be productive.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Here you wind up with one sixth round. Pick you
- 24:22Speaker 1: used it as a local, Kid Brian, parker who played
- 24:24Speaker 1: his college football At duke after playing his high school
- 24:27Speaker 1: football At SAINT. X he was a center At SAINT.
- 24:30Speaker 1: X he was basically a right tackle from WHAT i
- 24:32Speaker 1: understand At. Duke where do you see him playing in THE.
- 24:35Speaker 1: NFL i think he can play all. OVER i think
- 24:38Speaker 1: he can play all five.
- 24:39Speaker 11: Positions he's a guy, that like you, said he played
- 24:43Speaker 11: right tackle this year At. Duke we got a chance
- 24:46Speaker 11: to see him play center at The East west.
- 24:49Speaker 4: Game so he's very.
- 24:50Speaker 11: Versatile he has the right, mindset highly, instinctive and he's
- 24:55Speaker 11: a physical. Player he can create movement off the line of,
- 24:57Speaker 11: scrimmage but also mirror and match on the. EDGE i
- 25:01Speaker 11: think this is a guy that you know who knows
- 25:03Speaker 11: where his greatest upside, is which is a good. PROBLEM
- 25:05Speaker 11: i think his versatility is one of his greatest skill
- 25:07Speaker 11: sets and he has all the intangibles to do.
- 25:10Speaker 4: That. NOW i didn't see him back in his high school,
- 25:12Speaker 4: days BUT.
- 25:13Speaker 11: I can ONLY i can only imagine he was beating
- 25:16Speaker 11: up on those guys down the street.
- 25:18Speaker 4: Here so it's good to have him come back. Home
- 25:20Speaker 4: we're excited about.
- 25:21Speaker 11: Him got a chance to meet with him when we
- 25:24Speaker 11: came he when he came here on a visit To,
- 25:26Speaker 11: peycorps and he was, phenomenal high, character right, mindset and
- 25:32Speaker 11: he's got a bright future for us as.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Well you had two picks in the seventh.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Round you use your first on tight End Jack, endrees
- 25:38Speaker 1: who played last year At texas six, five primarily a
- 25:43Speaker 1: receiving tight, end a blocking tight, end or a true.
- 25:46Speaker 11: Combo, WELL i think he is a he's a problem
- 25:49Speaker 11: for defense defenses in the passing. Game he's a guy
- 25:52Speaker 11: that can win as a route, runner and he's got excellent.
- 25:56Speaker 11: HANDS i, mean the guy snatches the football out of the.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Air he's very.
- 26:00Speaker 11: ASSISTANT i think he's going to be a weapon that our.
- 26:03Speaker 11: Offense zach And dan and those guys on offense are
- 26:06Speaker 11: going to get a great value out of, him especially
- 26:09Speaker 11: in the passing. Game but he's a tough and physical
- 26:11Speaker 11: kids in the run game as, Well SO i think
- 26:14Speaker 11: we see him as a guy that can be a
- 26:16Speaker 11: mismatch problem in the receiving in the passing game and
- 26:20Speaker 11: true weapon as a. Receiver and he's also you, know
- 26:23Speaker 11: he's tough, enough more and physical enough to put his
- 26:26Speaker 11: head on somebody and creates a movement as. Well SO
- 26:29Speaker 11: i think he's a really good chess piece for us to,
- 26:31Speaker 11: have and he's.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Going to have really good value for our.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Offense your second seventh round pick and your final draft
- 26:37Speaker 1: pick this year was defensive Tackle Landon robinson out Of.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Navy he's from The akron. AREA i saw him Give
- 26:43Speaker 1: cincinnati fits in The Liberty bowl this past. Year he's,
- 26:46Speaker 1: smallish five to, eleven two ninety, one but he was
- 26:49Speaker 1: dominant At. Navy how does he overcome his lack of
- 26:53Speaker 1: size in the middle of the.
- 26:54Speaker 11: Defense he plays with, Leverage he is, low and this
- 26:58Speaker 11: guy is really really.
- 26:59Speaker 4: Strong my first.
- 27:01Speaker 11: Exposure to him was at The East west game when
- 27:04Speaker 11: he was just absolutely whipping guys throughout the. Week we
- 27:08Speaker 11: got a chance to coach in The East west. Game
- 27:10Speaker 11: our coaches said he was. Phenomenal we saw that on,
- 27:13Speaker 11: tape and then when you put on the game tape
- 27:16Speaker 11: what he was doing In. NAVY i, mean the guy
- 27:18Speaker 11: was just. Unstoppable so he has a really good skill
- 27:21Speaker 11: set regardless of whatever his stature. Is he is, low
- 27:25Speaker 11: he is, strong he's, powerful and he has really really good.
- 27:28Speaker 4: Quickness he's a.
- 27:29Speaker 11: Disruptor AS i talked about, earlier trying to add guys
- 27:32Speaker 11: that can apply heat and apply pressure at the. Quarterback
- 27:35Speaker 11: he can do, that but he can also play low
- 27:38Speaker 11: and play with leverage and stop the run as.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Well do you see unique leadership traits from a guy
- 27:44Speaker 1: who spent the last several years at The Naval.
- 27:46Speaker 11: Academy, absolutely he's a great human, being a true, leader
- 27:51Speaker 11: made of the right, stuff has the right, mindset studies
- 27:55Speaker 11: the game wants to. IMPROVE i, mean he has top
- 27:59Speaker 11: knot character and that's something that is appealing for us going.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Forward you didn't draft the, linebacker you didn't sign one
- 28:06Speaker 1: in free. Agency were there instances in this draft where
- 28:10Speaker 1: you had one that you guys really liked and within
- 28:13Speaker 1: a few picks before you were on the, clock that
- 28:14Speaker 1: guy was.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Gone, yeah that.
- 28:16Speaker 11: HAPPENS i, mean there's a lot of guys that we've
- 28:18Speaker 11: targeted throughout the, process and we want to get the
- 28:21Speaker 11: right guys that fit our defense and fit our scheme
- 28:23Speaker 11: and fit our, personality especially in this. Division and you, know,
- 28:28Speaker 11: LOOK i say this like we constantly work here trying
- 28:33Speaker 11: to add, competition add more, guys and this is we're not.
- 28:37Speaker 11: DONE i, mean the drafts all over, with but we're
- 28:39Speaker 11: constantly looking for more. PLAYERS i, mean we go through training,
- 28:42Speaker 11: camps you got the waiver, wire after the waverhi after.
- 28:45Speaker 11: Cutdown guys go through the waiver. Wire so there's going
- 28:48Speaker 11: to be opportunities for us to continue to. Add and
- 28:52Speaker 11: there were some guys that we liked going through the,
- 28:55Speaker 11: process but for whatever, reason they didn't it didn't work
- 28:58Speaker 11: out in the. Draft but we feel confident with the
- 29:00Speaker 11: group that we have currently. Here we have two young
- 29:03Speaker 11: linebackers that played a lot of football last. Year we
- 29:05Speaker 11: have good veteran leadership with a lot of guys in
- 29:08Speaker 11: a room with guys Like Orrin burk's and you, know
- 29:10Speaker 11: guys Like Shaka hayward.
- 29:11Speaker 4: That have been here and that have played real.
- 29:13Speaker 11: Snaps we got guys that Like Joe Giles harris has
- 29:16Speaker 11: a really impactful special teams. Player so we feel like
- 29:19Speaker 11: we have a good group and we'll continue to add
- 29:22Speaker 11: not only a linebacker but every.
- 29:23Speaker 4: Position we're not. DONE i know the draft's, over you kind.
- 29:27Speaker 11: Of take a deep breath and kind of exhale for a.
- 29:29Speaker 4: Second but then in tomorrow it's right back to. Work
- 29:32Speaker 4: and if.
- 29:32Speaker 11: There's more guys out there that are going to add
- 29:34Speaker 11: value to our defense or to our, offense we'll look
- 29:37Speaker 11: at them and we'll get them in.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Here in terms of where you had guys, graded who's
- 29:41Speaker 1: the biggest, Value.
- 29:43Speaker 4: WELL i don't. Know i'm not in every draft room
- 29:47Speaker 4: around the.
- 29:47Speaker 11: League we're just here and we focus on the guys
- 29:50Speaker 11: that fit us and fit our scheme and what we
- 29:53Speaker 11: want to. Do BUT i would, SAY i mean when
- 29:56Speaker 11: you start the when you start the kind of the
- 29:58Speaker 11: draft process with giving up your first round pick for
- 30:01Speaker 11: a guy Like Dexter, LAWRENCE i would say that's outstanding.
- 30:04Speaker 11: Value like you're talking about a guy that's been The
- 30:07Speaker 11: Pro bowls And All.
- 30:08Speaker 4: Pro so you start, there SO i think that was a.
- 30:11Speaker 11: Great value, pick as you would. Say but then you
- 30:15Speaker 11: turn around into our second round and you got a
- 30:17Speaker 11: guy that's double digit sack sack artists in THE sec
- 30:21Speaker 11: and cash is How and we were kicking and screaming
- 30:25Speaker 11: and fighting to figure out how do we get this?
- 30:27Speaker 11: Guy and then we're sitting there at forty one and
- 30:30Speaker 11: oh my, gosh he's. THERE i think that's probably some
- 30:34Speaker 11: really good value when you talk about premium, position getting
- 30:38Speaker 11: after the quarterback and applying heat to the, quarterback you,
- 30:43Speaker 11: know really. CONSTANTLY i think that's really good value in
- 30:46Speaker 11: terms of where we got.
- 30:47Speaker 1: CASHES i know how hard you guys work year round
- 30:51Speaker 1: for these three days and the free agent period that.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Follows congratulations on a great. Draft thanks so much for the,
- 30:57Speaker 1: time damn appreciate.
- 30:59Speaker 4: It we're not.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Though we're in the process of signing undrafted free agents
- 31:06Speaker 1: and have reportedly agreed to deals with a couple of,
- 31:09Speaker 1: Linebackers Jack dingle from The university Of cincinnati And Eric
- 31:13Speaker 1: gentry from usc that's going to do it for this
