- Nate: Tonight on the North American Friends Movie Club. A loving mother. A devoted daughter. And the power of adult friendships. We watch the 1989 American comedy drama film Steel Magnolias. So pour yourself a glass of Louisiana sweet tea. And slip into a handsome floral vest. Because we're the steel magnolias of podcasting. And since this is a serious movie, Brent's sound effect is going to be one single hospital room beep. This what it sounds like when we do a podcast. We're currently doing one. This is the North American Friends Movie Club, and you might notice something about the name of our show. And that's Friends Comes Before Movie Club. Because it's simply more important to us. It's as important to friends are as important to us as the friends are to the ladies in the movie Steal Magnolia. So I gotta ask my two little magnolias how we steal them. Ooh. Y'all, we're gonna talk in a southern accent the whole time, please. We're definitely gonna do that. Thank you, no. I can't do a southern accent. You haven't even tried, baby. I tried, but I can't do it. You're doing it right now. No, but I'm doing a female version. I can't do a male. You are an effeminate, strong, masculine southern man. I have to I okay. I I can't I get uncomfortable around accents. Also, you have your beautiful wife next to you. So maybe you want to Right? Am I wrong? My beautiful wife is right next to me. Yeah, she's texting me. She's never been next to you when we record. This is her first recording. I not not gonna change anything. She's still gonna be Still gonna be wild man cursing, giving up my racist opinions. I did feel I did ⁓ We're gonna get a lot less of ⁓ the pervert though, I bet. Gary the perverse. So I'll bring him back right now. Gary the I I forgot Gary's name. I can't believe I forgot Gary's name. ⁓ you guys, we haven't see any we haven't talked to each other in like over a week. Like we have been texting, but I've aged a whole year since then. Do we want to get into what's been happening? I would love to get into what's been happening. Yeah, tell us what's happening. So the first thing is is that my daughter. Was incre like so freaking excited to be a part of Brent's birthday message. Like Juliet thought she was queen of the birthday for you. She was so excited. Juliet's she's the bestie of the back. She knows what's going on. She knows, you know how it's I've become very close to your fiance and daughter the last year. I yeah. Well, I mean You're getting pretty close to Uncle Brent. ⁓ I'm getting I'm approaching Uncle Brad territories. Nick and Juliet are gonna call me Uncle Brent. Let's not forget that your name is P. ⁓ yeah. P and Poop. I forgot. I thought I was P. No. French P. ⁓ You're poop. Yes. I would rather be poop, if I'm being honest. I gotta be real. I've been walking around this whole time thinking I'm P and then it's like you see a photo of yourself. And you realize you're poo. It's like, ⁓ shit. No. And here's the thing. Juliet has asked me which one is which again? And I clairfay that Brent is P and Nate is poop. and when we were doing the intro, I could tell she had to take like a processing second before saying my name to be like, which one is that? Like, I think that's Nate Nate. Like, you got it. You got it right. To be fair, ⁓ people don't see us. So, like it's easy to know that I'm Kate, because I'm the lady. I'm the only lady brother. And then we have two other brothers. Nate and Brent And we're and it's two olds. So to to the eyes of a child, it's just too old. Like it's hard to tell olds about people say that they can't tell a difference between Nate and I, and I think that's crazy talk. I can hear the difference easily. Well, I can too, but you know how people are. They're not always Nate has an Edmonton accent and I have a Kate Bretton accent. We have regional dialects. Preaching to the choir over here. I get it. I'd say Kate has kind of a transatlantic, like she could be from anywhere kind of accent. I am. Kate could be on the news in Tennessee or Boston and people would be like, sure. I don't know. I don't think it's I don't think it's New England at all. No, no, it's not New England. I'm saying it's like you're above all regional accents. ⁓ Yeah. I think that's a lost opportunity for Kate. She could have been a newscaster. ⁓ for She like a newscaster. Or sure. Here's the thing. Too boring. Too boring. Like you're reading. You're just reading. Also, I always thought it would be very stressful. Why? Even though I'm a frickin' therapist, which is like so stressful. Yeah, you listen to people talk about how they like to, you know, do gross things all the time or be weird or people are not normally gross. ⁓ my gosh. But I I I circled back with Nick last night about those guys that don't wipe their butts because they think it's gay. Yeah, that's a problem. The what not wiping the butt situation is a big It's honestly hard for me to believe. Like it's it's just yeah. It's hard to wrap my mind around it. And ⁓ the story one I it's on Reddit and whatever, the woman ended up divorcing him. Like after she confronted like That's like the next Ella had her groove back. I love when the second update is like we're getting divorced. It's like cool. Did he stop wiping after they got married or was this a thing? He just never has. That's her problem then. She should never got married to a non wiper. Let's not victim blame. Yeah. Yeah. I think I think I was blaming the victim a little bit during the story where I'm like, you gotta be checking that out before you say I do. Well, I think that speaks to how little women think of men. Like maybe she just thought like all men are like this. That's what sh that was part of her what she wrote out was about like there were some things that I kind of just ignored because you know, boys are gross. Yeah, boys are gross. As a group, kinda gross. yeah. We're disgusting. I'm disgusting sometimes. I live like a feral coyote. See that's see that stain at that dark spot? What's that from? What is that? Salsa. I was jamming salsa into my gullet before I came up. But did you wash it off? Yes. Okay. See, then you're not so gross. Yep. Good guy. ⁓ let's ask let's this is a new segment. Let's ask Melissa. Melissa, am I gross? What? She said no. Of course you're not, Brent. Yeah. Of course you're not. Look at your watch. I'm glad she said no, because it's like it's a wife's prerogative at this moment to dunk on you and like, you know, get the laugh. And she was like, no. She chose a trick. Now ask her for tell her to dunk on you. What's what's one gross or weird habit I have that's gross? You they basically want you to dunk on me. Doesn't have to be gross. What's something I do that you don't like? What if she says nothing? That's because the Tonko hammerhead, yeah. I instead of wiping up dirt, I I just knock it all onto the floor so I can suck it up with the Tonko hammerhead and it's just like that. That's just what is she criticizing you for being good with your time? Exactly. That's like a product that we have. It's designed to do that. It's like taking the car to the store. Well, it's that's what it's there for. I really want to buy one of these things. Will you send me a screenshot of what it looks like and I'll try to find something similar for myself because I need what you talk about. I Did I not send you the video of me using the Ton Kell hammerhead to saying it's a fine product? No. No. No, you didn't. Check your lobster. I'm gonna need to see the hundred and twenty one degrees of swivel in that. When we need to see the hub? I I'm like a stunt driver. ⁓ this is dedicating something else, I think. What? But you're all sweaty from working out, and then you sit on the bed. ⁓ when I'm all sweaty from working out, then I sit on the bed. ⁓ can't be doing that. Yeah, I gotta I gotta change. What if you share the bed? Yeah. We'd share the bed, yeah. Okay, we officially are ending. Let's ask Melissa's segment. Yeah, the Okay, she's getting a little too comfortable. Because it's Brent's Birthday. You had your birthday five days ago. No. Six days ago? Your birthday's the second. It was a week a week tomorrow. So this yeah, it's a second. Forty four. Big four. I feel it's and this is the that's a big number next to your name. Absolutely. Four four. ⁓ Kate, you get it. I do. It's disgusting to be honest with you. ⁓ okay. Well, you've been not feeling great, bud. ⁓ yeah, I'll talk about all that in my In my situation, my segment. Is that why Melissa here? Are you gonna is are you guys gonna tell us you're going on hospice or something? No, but still that is why Melissa is home, cause her grandmother's gonna go into hospice. And so Melissa's taking some time off to take care of her. And Melissa's been sleeping at her house with her overnight. She's a great person. She is a great person. Also, she's been lying. She just doesn't want to sleep next to you because you've been laying sweatily on the bed. She's not lying because I lay sweatily in the bed. She's going to see your grandmother. I'm sorry to hear that about her grandmother. That sucks. Thank you. I'll relay those. And I'm also impressed that her grandma's still alive. I gotta be honest. Yeah, she's almost a hundred. What a good run. What a great run. And she's looked the same for the twenty years I've known her. And I we just call her Grammy Joy. Aw, is that her name? Yep. Joy. Joy's a lovely name. Yeah, it is. Okay, let me keep moving. I have s I had there guys, I went and saw Dave Matthews band in Damn, yeah, you did see Dave Matthews band. Yeah, I forgot. ⁓ just a sea of similar like just your a bunch of other Miis, just like a bunch of middle aged white people. And then you know, you have your bell curves. So like I was next to two different groups that had older black men in them. ⁓ so that was fun to see that it wasn't just all white people. And this was the new amphitheater that we opened. So the amphitheater used to be in Kansas, and this is the brand new one that they opened on the Missouri side. ⁓ so good for us. I bet if you looked up k amphitheater and a dictionary, there'd be a picture of Dave Matthews next to it. Yeah. Because I bet you that's all he plays is amphitheaters. For sure. Yeah. He's been doing the same thing for 30 years. Yeah. Also played all the fucking hits. Like play a weird, you know what I mean? And they were in and out. Yeah. Played ⁓ all. Okay. Played all the hits. Nice. ⁓ Jer or Jeremy saw Flow Rida here. Florida was here. My ⁓ the girl I ⁓ was my college roommate and I went, and you really it really just takes you back to two thousand and two. And you told you told me you were cracking pepper. ⁓ I cracked pepper. ⁓ here's the other thing. I did crack pepper. And I just was like, sometimes cause I've just learned to do this. I will just pay attention to myself if I've like dissociated or I'm doing something else and then I'll and then I'll reorient back to myself. And I was dancing and snapping. And I was like, that's so dorky. And then I said, no, Kate, don't like, don't edit. Do what is in your heart. And I was snapping to this. Some Dave Matthews. Yeah. It's like when you're pitching, you can't guide the ball. You just have to trust you pick your spot and let it go. Yeah. I've been finding myself when music is on doing some gargoyle work, crack and pepper. I've been doing all the the the the ninjas. I've been doing all the moves. You gotta get yourself moving. I think it's healthy. Mm-hmm. ⁓ I watched the Glenn Point Glenn Powell movie. So I didn't think I like Glenn Powell. And then I watched the Glenn Powell movie that's on HBO, How to Make a Killing. ⁓ and I just want to say that it's a good movie. And the ending I did not see coming at all. I really enjoyed it. So if you're looking for a movie to watch that's streaming. The other thing I realized naturally is that Danny McBride puts dirt bikes in all of his writing. So across his different shows, there's always dirt bikes. Those are cool as hell and they make a cool sound. There's nothing funnier than an adult on a dirt bike. What was a wasn't there a whole dirt bike storyline on this podcast? Like there was a guy in your neighborhood who was doing wheelies on a dirt bike and you were like really bike guy. Yeah, wasn't there a dirt bike guy? There's always a dirt bike guy in Cape Brothers. And I I get dirt bike people in the city, and I'm like, why are you riding a dirt bike on the road, Dork? There's a guy in Clay Spain named Tommy Dirtbikes. There's a guy in my neighborhood who has like the tiniest mini bike. But with the biggest gorilla bar hangers who's on the tiniest little bike riding like this around I love the ape hangers. I love the ape hanger handlebars. ⁓ I watch Project Hail Mary too. Have you guys watched Project Hail Mary? I read the book. Well, I'd listen to the book. Melissa's become one of those people now. When I say something you can't say red? I can't say red. When I I when I say I read something, Melissa's like, Well, Brent, listen to it. Tell Melissa to stop being a snob and that we need to encourage bro You're you're ingesting the material. You can't keep your eyes open while you're reading. What's that, Melissa? Well, kinda, yeah. Kate's not. Kate said that I sh you should be proud that I'm ingesting information. She's proud of me, she said. Good. ⁓ but she's she's like Like the other day we're at a grad party and I said to a person we our a friend that we never see that often, and I said, Hey, I read the Bible. Melissa was eating a hot dog, and she put the hot dog down and said, No, Brent, listen to the Bible. I think I don't know. That to me, you listen to the Bible. I mean, just to ⁓ No, I'm getting defensive because I say that I read things and I listen to them. So are we getting made fun of for like our learning disability? Like I am better at taking information in auditorially. ⁓ yeah, me too. As someone who does ingesting information. Someone who does both. I think I mean I do too, but I prefer it. I give it to both. I I I've all I've allowed it on this show all these years because it's it's just like, yeah, I think that counts. I I do think that counts. Now, like sitting and reading a book is different than listening to it, but I still think it's under the umbrella of red. I'm gonna put it under the umbrella of red. Thank you. So yeah, Project Kalmere, I read the book and I started watching the movie. I had to stop watching the movie. Well, because you read the book and then it was like different from the book. Not the same. Not the same at all. But as someone who has not read the book, I really enjoyed the movie. Yeah, it's I've heard nothing but good things about the film. Ryan Gosling Could be the most charming person to ever live. Canadian. But famously Canadian. Yeah, but in the the the character of Grace is supposed to be kind of like goofy and ⁓ he is. I kept on picturing the guy from Breaking Bad that we talked about. That was in Curly Headed Guy? Yeah. I I think he should have played that character. I bet he'd be great at it. You know what mean? But they gotta get Ryan to sell them tickets. They gotta sell those tickets, Brent, to get the budget. The whole story between Rocky and like the science made sense. And it wasn't like it was very complicated because it's astrophysics. And this but they explained it so well and it made sense. And I was like, this is that was so smart. Dude, that guy, that guy who write Weir is his last name Weir. Yep. ⁓ I read the Martian. I read I read The Martian. I'm reading Artemis right now. And it's like, he's you have to be so smart to write those books. Any of the any person that I love those books that in intertwine like real like Dan Brown. And ⁓ I read this one about ⁓ Dracula in Vampires. That was a similar one where they mix the fiction and the nonfiction. I like that too. That's to explain like how a spaceship worked. You gotta be so smart. Like if I wrote that book, I'd be like, I I accelerated with the pedal and I couldn't find the keys to the shuttle. Yeah, stuff like that. ⁓ July fourth, ⁓ I didn't get to go down to the lake. So I hung out with my friends ⁓ in kind of a nicer area of the city. And I wore a sweater I bought, and I got a lot of compliments on them and a A couple of the guest like the women who complimented me asked me if it was Ralph Lauren or Vineyard Vines. And I was delighted to reply that it was from the War Warsaw Walmart. Nice. And with the Walmart. This is like when I get to when someone when I get to tell someone how much a tool cost, I'm like, guess how much? Guess how much on sale I got that. That's guess. No. Fourteen dollars. Also delighted that they were so delighted too. Like everyone was delighted. Yep. About the recession. And did the sweater have sleeves? No, it's short sleeve blue. I posted it on Instagram. Yeah. Short sleeve blue with ⁓ the American flag. It does look like Ralph Lauren. It does look like Vineyard Vines. And that's why when I clocked it in Walmart, I was like, this, because you're not that's how you shop Walmart. You shop like classic anyway. And I should there's a bl there's a lady that does that, that just does content of like how to shop at discount places and make it look like you're not wearing cra because you also have to pay attention to the fabric. Like gotta pay attention to the textiles. I'm always feeling textures and materials at one of that stores. I love it. And then do you ever go like just to someone next to you that you're with like, touch this, feel that. No, Mosa's bought all my clothes in the last calendar year. Well, no, I know, but you go to a store with her. Do you ever go to a store with your wife? Yeah. And then if you are near a soft towel or a soft blanket or some very ugly ⁓ PJ pants that have lifesavers on them or something. And you're like, feel this. Touch that. That's I always try to get Melissa to buy like the funny nightgowns at Walmart. Yeah, don't talk to me till I've had my coffee. Yeah, I always try to get to buy stuff like that. ⁓ you guys, that's what's been happening. That's what happened. What happened? That's what happened. ⁓ okay, my turn I turned into 44, had a lovely birthday. yeah. You made it. I've been closing rings because Melissa got me an Apple Watch. Hell yeah. I've been closing the rings all since for a week now. Doesn't it feel good when you get the three ring sparkler? The notification, yeah. I don't like the notifications time to stand up. ⁓ do you stand up? Yeah, I do. I go for a little scrotter in there. Yeah. ⁓ I should listen to mine. I just ignore her when she tells me that. You gotta stand up when it tells you. That's how you get your three rings to close. I was shocked by technology because we went for a walk the other day and it's my watch popped off at like twelve minutes into the walk and it said, Looks like you're working out. You wanna record this? I'm like, Yeah. Hit record and it like backtracks backdates when you started your walk. It's awesome. That saved me a lot of times during my walking days. You can't do what you you can't do a murder nowadays. ⁓ it's impossible. It's impossible. You start going like this and your watch vibrates like I see you might be stabbing someone. Do you want me to record your murder? My watch thinks I am working out when I smoke weed. Cause my heart rate increases. And it says it looks like you worked out. It was like, I sure did. Worked out these lungs. No, I didn't. ⁓ Mine went off the other yesterday when I was looking at pitch when I was I was checking the I was grilling chicken and I was putting the second layer of sauce on and it let me know that my heart rate was up. It's like you're a little too excited about the hickory. I felt like Homer Simpson so bad. ⁓ I get it. That's labor intensive. We're moving and excited. No, it was just because I'm excited. Yeah. ⁓ could I sheen that glistening on there? ⁓ Yeah, turn four four. I had dinner with family. was great, nice. ⁓ I told Melissa to get me a vanilla cake, because I'm not a cake person. And ⁓ I know Melissa and her family love sweets and cake. And they love vanilla. They're not a big chocolate cake fan. Mm-hmm. And I end up getting a chocolate cake because it's your birthday, you get what you want, I was told. ⁓ you wanted chocolate. You were trying to be ⁓ altruistic, but they were like, Yeah, because I was many. I was gonna have a slice, but I wasn't gonna have any more after that. But no, still got chocolate because that's what you get. You get something for you yourself on your birthday, and now I ⁓ get home with me and I liked it. I like that. I'm glad you're being treated that way, Brent. Yeah, me too. I'd like to get on the record for you two, just in case you ever host my birthday party. My favorite cake is ice cream cake. I'd like to have a Your favorite cake is ice cream cake. Okay. And you know what I'll do is I'll make sure that we take it out of the freezer an hour before. And I'll dip the knife in hot water. this is why I love you guys. You're my best friends. Yep. ⁓ my heart rate will definitely go off. to cut an ice cream cake. Yeah, I'm working out. Just so excited for the ice cream cake. Trying to cut an ice cream cake. ⁓ we have a minor controversy here on the island. we have a cancellation of a car show that we have every month or every August. There's a car show where they line the cars up in downtown. All these old cars and like souped up. It's basically for car people, grease monkeys. It's whatever. I mean, it's great for the community and they raise money and all that stuff. I'm not a car person, so I don't care. But they cancel it because the cops said they can't have it for two days anymore. Because someone got ran over last year. Whoa. They were doing burnouts in the fire department park a lot and backed into a lady, ran her over. So netho so the cops No, I don't think she died. So thank goodness. She's fine, yeah. So they said, ⁓ the cops that 'cause they were blocking like when this happens, it they blocked the whole main artery downtown for two whole days and nights. So the cops said, We're not doing that anymore. We'll give you like five hours in the afternoon on Saturday. So the organizer just said, No, we're canceling it. ⁓ what ding bats? ⁓ I that's that's the that's the punchline. So ⁓ they cancel it. They No, we're not doing it. If we can't have it our way, we're not we're not gonna have it. And then the comments turned into bashing k pride. Like, ⁓ we'll have a pride parade, but we won't have this. And so They canceled h hot August Nights because of this and it was just turned into Pride Bashing. August nights. Yes. This is my joke. The funniest comment under this was we have to get rid of all the header or the homosexual bashing comments on this thread. ⁓ the only thing that pride and hot August nights have in common is one has a gay name and the other one's called Pride. Perfect. Perfect joke. Perfect joke. It was so good. It made me laugh so who did that? Give them credit. No, no, I'm not. I refuse to. two more things. Dave the Diver, amazing, beautiful. Finished the whole thing, and then I downloaded the the the DLC into the jungle just as amazing. If not, now you're in territory that I've never myself experienced. I've never I've never gone into the jungle or messed around with Godzilla. So is this still in Dave the Diver or is this a different game? It's Dave the Diver. Content. You can get X It's like extra bonus content you can get for Dave the Diver, but I have not played it. Did you pay for it? Yeah, I pay ten dollars for it. And he moves from the from he goes into the jungle with his fresh water lake, and there's so many new fish. So many people to meet. You gotta give them gifts. I've been catching sturgeons. Probably new recipes. ⁓ recipes out there. Ying I got so much I got a a movie star kind of guy as a server and he picks up extra tips because he's so good looking. Ugh anyway. I know this is not a Dave the Diver podcast, but we could easily make it one. I can't support it enough. Get Dave the Diver. Last thing is I got some bad, bad news. ⁓ no. Bad news. You know how I've been the smartest I've ever been just ingesting content, information. Ginger. Bye. Ginger. ⁓ I'm doing Tai Chi. I talk about Tai Chi. Tell us about Tai Chi. A little bit. Still doing Tai Chi. But ⁓ yeah, dropping bags, lemon ginger shots, just Bible, ingesting information built vampires, space, all time travel, all that stuff. I know everything. Philosophers. ⁓ I started new medication. And one of the s the side effects are could bunch of but one of the side effects is could cause euphoria and a level of complete relaxation. Is it called heroin? What are you saying? Yeah, but yeah, it's you can take an heroin pill. I found it funny because usually it's like Diarrhea, dry mouth, you know weight gain, all that. And they're all they're all side effects of this medication. But the only thing I've seen that picked up is constipation and euphoria. So you're on opioids, Brent. I don't f it hasn't touched the pain. Like it's no pain relief whatsoever. But I'm just gonna stay on it because I I know. That's bad news. But I'm just gonna stay on it because I feel I have a better outlook on life now. So are you concerned that your euphoria is is like making you think that you're getting smarter than you thought because of the euphoria? Is that the concern? No, the concern is the euphoria has made your boy dumb again. ⁓ because you're just just yeah. I'm not I'm not hooked in to anything. I'm not like ingesting information. I texted Jeremy at work. I said, I'm gonna pick up something for you to eat. And he's like, A Roadhouse King combo with lemonade. I said, Okay. So I pull into the drive-thru, I order it, and they said, This is Wendy's. you're looking for Burger King. And I was like, okay. Sorry. So I pull a I literally got Sir, this is a Wendy's. I was just gonna say you got real life, sir, this is a Wendy's. So he's like, Do you want a baconator? I said no, no, it's not that. I just messed up. I'm sorry. So I pulled out, I pulled into Burger King, which is just literally next door, and I pulled into the drive-thru. When you know I have the fancy LED screens of the signs, anyway. I'm just sitting there waiting to order, and all of a sudden a a picture of a burger popped up and it just started rotating. And I nearly pissed myself laughing. I was keeled over laughing. The euphoria. Yeah, it was like when Elaine was got stupid because she stopped having sex or something and she was watching the tires all like that it was that, but I was watching a burger go around and around just laughing. That was where it's like, ⁓ I'm just getting dumb again. And I think I'm more right that I'm just getting dumb. Kate is is so extremely she has that face on like Brent's gonna get a pill addiction. Yeah. She's just ever since I said she's saying on it. She's from ⁓ Festus. Like there's a lot of opioid trouble. Troubles in in the she you know, she's worried about it. Yeah. It does opioids are addictive, period. So you're gonna want to take them more closely than they're prescribed. And what the one time you do that, you're already you've already slipped into the I'm worried. No, if I follow the rules, I won't take the second one until bedtime. So when I go to bed, I just take it. I'm fine. Yeah. ⁓ but I'm gonna stay on them because I have a better outlook on them. Why don't you just get diagnosed with ADHD? And then what happens? And then you can take, then they prescribe you stimulants, and that makes you feel good and gives you energy. I just drink coffee. One time Andy came into the garage at like 6 a.m. and I've been up all night ⁓ working in the garage, and he was like, he looked at me like so earnestly. He's like, Are you on drugs? Like, are you taking stimulants? And I had a moment where, like, what would even happen to me? Like, if I, someone like me or Brett were to take stimulants, I feel like we would turn into hummingbirds and like float off of the earth into space. Like, I d I don't even know what would happen. I'm doing the opposite. I can't have my brain working any faster than what it does now because the engine? That many RPM? ⁓ yeah. That much ponies under the hood? No. We'll end up blowing a piston or something. I needed to I had I didn't have my ADHD meds for a week and it I didn't realize what kind of life I was living for the first 42 years of my life. Like fuck. Like I have so much better executive functioning. I would have not have dropped out of law school if I had been diagnosed with ADHD. I guarantee you. ⁓ shit, you'd be Supreme Court justice. Maybe you would have. Became a newscaster. I'm glad I did. Don't get it wrong. So yeah, my f my last thing was yeah, just euphoria and constipation, but their euphoria is maybe not even care about it. Well, I'm happy to have Happy Brent as long as he stays around. You better get some ⁓ fucking naltrexone in your house or ⁓ number for opioid overdo overdose. ⁓ I'm not He's not gonna take that many case. Fine. Everybody should have one of those in their house anyway. Everybody should all all have the whatever they're they're for opioid overdose. I'll be fine. Okay. That's it for me. ⁓ it's time for the weekly report. So, Nate, what's the weekly report? Let's do the weekly report. Week, week, week, week, week, week, week, week, week, weekly report. Week week week week week week week week week weekly report. Weekly report. I've been going through it. Well, I have good have good things and bad things, you know? ⁓ flood the there was the the flooding in the basement required terrible r ⁓ serious commitment. We couldn't we couldn't just we couldn't just pretend like nothing was happening. When when water starts leaking into your house, you kinda have to look inside the wall and then you see that it's like, ⁓ yeah, the foundation of the house has a crack in it. Gotta figure that out. Gotta sort. Get that sorted. So my bedroom is like half of the wall in my room is like ripped out. I got twenty fans going. I got foundation kit repairs ordered. We're we're doing we're gonna have to do full reno. But such a pain in the ass. It's just such a pain in the ass. Do you know what I mean? And it's like even If I were to hire somebody to do it, it doesn't make it any less of a pain in the ass. Like I still there's just so many there's just so many things to deal with. I had to take down my bookshelves. So I had to go get boxes and put all my books in boxes and take down my bookshelves and then rip out the wallpaper. But now the wallpaper's stuck to the it's just a whole fucking thing. Yeah, sucking the water's the easy part. It's the everything else. Mother Nature. Mother Nature is angry. Yep. Pickle beast. Luckily I have a good dis I have a good disposition for this kind of thing. I think I'd feel way worse if it this was in my sister's room right now. It would give me more psychic distress. Mm-hmm. Like I can live like an animal, that's fine. I can sleep on the coast. Yeah, I'm kinda gross already. If anything, I kinda like it, you know? ⁓ good excuse. And then The other thing is because of all this rain, there's never been more mosquitoes in Edmonton, Albert. It's it's like I've I've never experienced anything like it. So not only am I like hauling socky drywall garbage bags, very heavy, famously heavy up the stairs. But then the minute I get outside the house, it's just like bombers. It's I feel like one of those ⁓ like bat. Who was flying out of that cave into like there's 70 jet eagle eagles picking them off in the caves documentary? That's me. There's just like 700 jet airliner mosquitoes chasing after me at all times. It's it's crazy. ⁓ that sounds terrible. I wanna can I order the spray where you spray it all over your lawn and it kills all the mosquitoes? Here's why I don't think it would do anything, because when I was at work. All cement in the middle of an industrial zone. There's no grass, there's no grass anywhere. Going from my car to the store, skeeters everywhere. They're ⁓ they're over cement. You need to wear one of those bee suits when you go out. I need a beekeeper suit. ⁓ if I had a beekeeper suit right now, I would feel so cool and so good. ⁓ so I was in a I'm been in a bad mood about that, but I Officially applied for and received my Canadian dental benefit. This new thing that just came out a few years ago, and then they only gave it to the kids. But now poor adults can get it too. Yay! So I got my Canadian dental. I get to go to the dentist. Let's go. Yes. Shout out. Congratulations. Look at look at a nation taking care of its people. Imagine that. It's very rare that you're like, we did something good to For a normal person, like we actually managed to do it. It's not just like rich people get to have their fun. We really did it. And ⁓ huge shout out. Good job, non-conservatives. Right. ⁓ That's the weekly report. yeah. We it's ⁓ Adult North Month, it's Nate's month, it's the second movie in our series. And ⁓ the movie we watched is up to Kate. It's Kate's pick. Kate, tell everybody what you picked. I picked The movie Steel Magnolias from the year 1989. 1989. ⁓ I would love it if someone would tell me the synopsis of the movie Steel Magnolias. Steel Magnolias takes place in a southern town and it focuses on a group of women who are friends slash rivals and They're all very close, but they're all very have a very like typical man relationship where they they can make fun of each other and crack jokes and whip ass. That's not the comment. What's the what's the thing? What's the thing? Break balls. They're busting each other's balls. A lot. ⁓ yeah, and it's main characters are a mother and daughter, who have a a good relationship, I would say, but The daughter is, she has ⁓ was it diabetes? Mm-hmm. She has diabetes, and she is warned that she shouldn't have children by a doctor. and the tale takes a turn when she informs her mother that she's indeed pregnant because she's married to a a lawyer, Southern lawyer. It's a typical SEC romance. And they Or having a child and there's tension because the mother doesn't want that and Julia Roberts, who's the daughter, is like, I'm having this baby. ⁓ the doctor said I shouldn't, like not that I couldn't, but I'm having the baby. she ends up having the baby. Baby is fine, but it takes a toll on the daughter. She ends up getting a kidney from her mother and a snazzy new haircut, and everybody is fine after that. everything's going good. Baby's turns one, and then all of a sudden the baby's playing. Daughter picks up the baby, she goes to the ground, that's it. She's in a coma. Body went through too much. And the mother stays by her side, ⁓ takes care of every little thing that she she can do for the daughter, but the daughter doesn't pull through. Daughter dies, ⁓ they attend the funeral, the mother has a mental s a a menti bee, as the kids say, screams at everybody, and then in true fashion the group gets together, starts busting balls again, everything's okay. The end. Steel magnolias. Steel magnolias. Steel magnolias. So let's talk about our favorite parts of steel magnolias. Let's talk about our favorite parts. Had you guys seen this? This is the first time I watched this, and this is the first time you watched it, Brent? First time. First time, long time. heard about it all the my whole life. Never knew anything about it. Didn't know it was what kind of movie it was. I just knew it was Steel Magnolius. And then I told Melissa we're watching Steel Magnolius, and she said, That's my favorite movie of all time. So we watched it. What the fuck, Ace? Yeah. It's good. Why, why, why? On a Sunday afternoon, do you got me? I'm glad up to my chest, teary-eyed. I was like, This is not the mask. This is how they get you too, because it starts off. This thing is like it's like eat fun. Chips. This thing is as as good as chips and dip at the beginning. It's just bubbling away, fucking the zingers, the dialogue. I assumed it was gonna be a movie like Barbershop, like where they expand her beauty boutique and they're all friends and bust each other balls, but they that's why I thought this movie was going. No, you get a Tour de Force monologue from Sally Field about how her daughter is dead. I mean, whoo! ⁓ and and she let she lets it warm up too, because the first record is the movie. I'm like, Sally Field's not doing that much. Like she's she's do it, but As Sally Field that we know, she's not like she's not letting the engine out. And then that scene at the funeral comes and she goes, Did you Nate, did you ever see ⁓ Mason Miller's introduction in San Diego when he comes in to throw in the ninth and they play Tool? Yeah. And the lights that's what she was doing. Yeah. That's how the only way I could describe it. Yeah. ⁓ she sits the whole movie, she sits like he sits the whole game, and then all of a sudden they need her. And this tool starts playing. Tool still should have started playing. That should have been the soundtrack thing. I yeah, I knees were up cradling myself in the fetal position, watching this teary eye when she side feel walks and the the baby or the toddler comes out and the girl's the Dutch grandma. Yeah. I was like, hey, what are you doing? Because the it's the aunt who's like giving her the look of like. I know your daughter just died. There's like, what can I say? Like, I can't say shit. So like just send the child. Like, yeah, there's a lot going on in that scene. That's the one that got me too. Just sweep. Like, I and I have never watched this movie and not cried. And to me, that is sacred. And I hold this movie sacred because sometimes you need to cry and you can't. And so I knew that I would like to cry and ⁓ it helped me. I think it helps to cry and clean out the pipes. Exactly. Clean out the psychic pipes and your brain. Do you know that when you cry, you release chemicals that only come out when you cry? They're like brain chemicals. They're called tears. No, no, no. I know, but like inside tears are stored in the brain. What I'm hearing is tears are stored in the brain. And then you get rid of the tears and the brain has more room to expand with information. That's right. ⁓ that's how the body works. ⁓ what did you guys think about I mean Dolly Parton, don't you think she does a great job of incredible? She's so believable and ease. She has such ease on film. Like, she's not like, who was the guy that was in ⁓ set it up? Who is the rapper? set it off. She's not like Dr. Dre was like so excited to be there. And like Dolly's like, Dolly's been there. She's been there. But Dolly Parton has played the same role in this movie as she did in Nine to Five. This is a different job. It's fine with me. I don't think so because in this one, she's actually a little bit more like a little mean. Not like too mean, but it's like the meanest I've ever seen, Dolly. She's got an edge. Yeah. Yeah, I don't think nine to five dolly would say like anything bad about anybody, but this dolly's she's got some things to say. This dolly got some things to say. This dolly got some things to say. Just the like I my brain can't process the hair, how high it gets. ⁓ I we have to go back to that. That's a lot. This is you'd like that? ⁓ this is the most eighties like movie we've ever watched to me. Like we had a lot of these, like, you know, Ferris Bueller. It's like they're kinda dressed like these. This is like these are like adults patterns. Yes. The houses, the furniture, the cars, like Everything about it was just so like ⁓ and a lot of it's come back too. Like a lot of these guys are dressed like what 22 year olds going to NYU or wearing ⁓ my god, r exactly. Yeah. Wearing spears, yeah. Yeah. Can I give my analogy of a modern women haircut compared to the 80s women's haircuts? Sure. You guys are now more aerodynamic, like jet skis, and that's just the modern woman zipping from Job to job, appearance to appearance, speeches to speeches. That's what you guys do now, lady bosses. You gotta be quick and ⁓ you need the aerodynamic haircut, short, cropped close to the head. Back in the 80s, that wasn't like that. They were sailboats. They had the high sails, the high hair. They were just circling around the harbor. That's all they did. And that's the home. They were homemakers and they just kept everything home safe. And that's why they had the high hair like sails. Would you like a rating from me on that idea? Yeah. Ten out of ten. I loved it. I loved it. I loved it. It's true. It's true. They all have the big hair because they're ladies are more aerodynamic these days. It's just a fact. It's just a fact. You need closer to the head hair. Yep. And but I would like to go back to the big head. It's because you're a slow person too. And so you need ladies to slow down. Yeah. Yeah. Like that's fine. You keep You keep that and I'll take my sleek hair. I'm personally offended. You're a perfect example. I'm personally offended by that. ⁓ I'm sorry I called you the lady boss. Sorry. I think you're right. And I think that poked I think that hit a little too close to the sun. I think that shot through the sh shot to the moon and you landed amongst the stars. Right now, much like Copernicus, you are being persecuted for being correct. So right to the lady nuts. I would have one of the quotes is, I would rather have thirty minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special. And I think that's how she gets her. That was the judo throw that Julia Roberts did to Sally Fields. Because she couldn't deny it. ⁓ she couldn't deny. She's like, My daughter, I love my daughter. My 30 minutes of wonderful is right here. How could I deny it to her? She and she you know you get your mom's ass when she just w walks out of the room. Like she doesn't have a next I got nothing to say. Got nothing to say. Your mother goes into another and sits on her bed and just stares at she's processing a lot. ⁓ Kill Bill has ruined Daryl Hannah for me. When I saw Daryl Hannah walking on the street when she was first introduced in the movie, I just assumed she was the nurse from Kill Bill and she was gonna kill somebody. That's my brain. I can't I know that's my problem, but that's just a a note I have to That is your brain and your problem. Made me wonder why. We don't see more Daryl Hannah. Cause she's doing I think she messed with her face. I think she ⁓ doesn't she have half a thumb? I think she messed with her face. I think she put too much stuff in it. Put too much stuff in her face. She's so she's so fun in this movie. She's very funny. ⁓ and the physical for the first half of the movie, and then when she turned all bobbly. ⁓ Yeah, she doesn't look like Daryl Hannah anymore. But I I like the I liked her arc where it's like she becomes Bible-y, but then you see how that's like tough for her to live like that. And by and then the last scene, her husband says, ⁓ Christ or Jesus Christ, and she doesn't like correct him. You know what I mean? She's just like, just go get the car, whatever. And it's like shows this evolution of like she got a little too into it, and now she's kind of cooled off a bit. She's becoming a woman. She all and so like. Like you were saying, she's like really into religiousness and s Sammy ⁓ said he wouldn't mind I wouldn't mind reading the Bible in bed as long as you were wearing something inspirational. It's a good lie. And then also in this movie, they w exchanged lingerie with a split open crotch, which is very That was Weezer's gift. Weezer told or put that like right down split crotch. Put down split crotch, Shelby. What a good name. Wheezer is so good. The way it comes off of everyone's mouth. It's just like Wheeza. Hoezer. Wheeza. ⁓ Truvi. ⁓ go ahead. No, go ahead. Truvi, ⁓ Dolly Parton's character decorates for Halloween. And I was excited to see that I had some of the same Halloween decorations growing up that Truvi has in the movie. Universal decorations. It was a ghost that had fringe on the bottom. It was like they were hanging and they were like small like this and they had long tassel like That's the ghost part. Yep. We gotta go back to that instead of this animatronic stuff. Everything looks like a l small world now. I hate that. ⁓ and then Annelle did all of this tr the spinning Christmas decorations. And I was like, we need to do more spinning decorations. We are blowing things up. We need to go around. We need big hair again and we need non Electrical decorations. Yep. I agree. We need to put more we need to make more injectable plastic molding Christmas decor. Yep. I agree. Yep. ⁓ the two brothers. ⁓ so annoying. In this move. ⁓ I had a big problem with them. Fuckers. Can't stand them. Messing up the whole thing. Absolute terrorists. ⁓ I did like the scene when The brothers and Julia Roberts are all joking about the kidney transplant. And the dad is just like, it's the only ⁓ moment in the movie where he's like, This is not funny. I'm not, I do not think this is okay. I do not have a good sense of humor about this, and they're just being such shitheads. But then I think that sets up so good for the funeral where they're behaving. Yeah. They're sad. They're not joking around anymore. And that's like it hits so much harder because like these guys joke around about everything. And like at the funeral, it's like, It's not funny anymore. Not funny. Your sister's. Did you know one of them is go w is going to old miss. For sure. Yeah. And he yeah, he's got the shortest shorts on with like a polo and just being a f and his girlfriend is like I'm engaged to him. I the what I did I didn't know she was diabetic. So when she took the turn in the the in the chair? Did you think she was having a fit? I I d I laughed because Olympia Dacaucus's character screamed out or yelled out, I'll get some juice. So the fucks? So then I thought it'd be a funny bit i if I was a paramedic and then no matter what accident or thing was going on, I just yelled out, I'll get some juice and I think that would be a funny bit for me, my partner. Packing up your ⁓ making sure the ambulance is packed up before you go out and you're like, Did you pack the juice? Yep. Like I arrive at a a two-vehicle car crash and someone's leg is like degloved or shit. I'm like, ⁓ get some juice. Did you guys know that this was a play? And so it was written by a guy whose ⁓ sister died from a diabetic thing. And then he wrote this play in honor of her. And so I didn't know that that was the genesis of it. I did know it was a play, and you can feel The play when, especially in like the first third of the movie, the dialogue is just so snappy. Like movies aren't like that. And it's I think it's one of the reasons why plays make great movies. ⁓ because it's it's so little about action. It's so little about moving the camera. It's just about like, let's just keep this thing going back and forth. Like I say something, you say something, Wheeza comes in, someone opens the bathroom door and says something like it's just so snappy. Yeah, it's it was the most like southern thing and never had southern names and did southern things. It was very funny. They gotta bring back the name Millen. Milan. Millen That is a great name. And y I never come across a Millen in my life. You've not met a Milan? I I've never I've never met a single Millen. Truvi, Louisa, you Weiza, Annelle, Clary, Shelby, Drum, Spud. Jackson, Sammy, Owen, Fern. Drum's good too. Yeah. Drum is good. I liked I liked Dolly Parton's relationship with that guy too. And I love how like it wasn't you could have seen that one being easily like, ⁓ he's just like lazy and boring. And their storyline is that he like gives up and so they like drift apart. But instead, it's kind of like shows that like he had this moment of his life where he's kind of given up. But by the end of it, he gets to be like, he's we're out working on the oil rig and he's like, got it back. He's he's moving again, and she's like, and he puts on the suit for her, and he's like, I'd like to come to the funeral with you. It's like, I thought that was so sweet. The barrel couldn't be any lower for Spud. I mean, he basically got away with murder the whole movie. He didn't do anything, and all I did was start with suit on. I had the opposite reaction, Nate. I was like, ⁓ Spud got off as nuts before they hatch, Craig. I thought it was romantic. I thought it was romantic. You put a suit on for her. It was romantic. He looked beautiful. He looked good. A big downgrade with the with the short hair wig for ⁓ my girl Jutzel Roberts. Terrible. Tough. Terrible haircut. Melissa had a theory that they couldn't really use a lot of wigs because the hair is so big in real life that they needed something that was short and covered her head. I think that's why it's so big. They couldn't stick it down to the head because there's too much hair because it's the eighties. They didn't know how to do slick. The technology still simply wasn't there. We didn't have the polymers. You never dreamed that women would become more aerodynamic in the future and need shorter to the head haircuts. Would you guys like to do a quiz? I would love to. I would love to do a quiz. This is the Steel Magnolia 7. Steel Magnolia 7. Gotcha. ⁓ number one, we're gonna start with Brent. ⁓ okay. What are the two colors of Naomi's wedding? ⁓ the two colors of Naomi's wedding are blush and Blush and bashful. I agree with Brant blush and bashful. That's correct. You both describe. Sure glad I got to go second. Cause I would have said pink and white. They're pink and a difference of pink. You would have no pink and pink. Who is number two started with Nay. Who is this year's Miss Merry Christmas? Nancy Beth Marmillion? Mary Beth Marmillion? Beth Ann McQueen. Annabeth McQueen. Miss What is it? Miss Merry Christmas? Mm-hmm. Annabeth McQueen. Is that C? Was Annabeth McQueen C? That was D. Okay, what's C? Beth Ann McQueen. That one. Correct answer is Nancy Beth Marmillion. Nancy Beth Marmilion! Kate's on the pole. I guess that one. Number three. Closest to either way is correct. Dolly Parton is selling crawfish boil. How much is a full order? Dolly Parton's crawfish boil costs. I'm gonna say five dollars. I'm gonna say four dollars. The correct answer is six dollars. Brent gets a point. That's right. Gone forever! Six dollars for a full order of crawfish boil. I bet that's like eighteen dollars now. At least yeah. Twenty bucks. We were looking at a cot a catalog from like nineteen thirty and it was like four modern day forty five hundred dollars for a fridge. It was what? Modern day money was forty five hundred dollars for a fridge. I mean, you can buy a forty five hundred dollar fridge right now if you want to. ⁓ certainly. Yeah, you would have to be moneyed. Money. You'd have to have some family money. Some old miss money. Number four, we are back to my final. ⁓ for what team is Clary Belcher the color announcer? Braves, Reds, Gaitors, Devils. Devils. She famously picked the purple. She loved the purple jerseys for the Devils. That is correct. Now we're getting into some we're getting into some questions. Well, we're in the bayou now. Nate has three. No, Brent has three. I have two. You have two. You have two. I have one. Balder Dash clue monopoly scrabble. The first person who reminds me why I wrote this answer gets a point. Best question wins. I don't know. I don't know why you did it. I saw on the screen, like I saw that these were games in some scenario. Some so if in if you could tell me why I wrote that or If you could make up a question with those being the answers, that series, not just each one, then you will get a point. You the the sisterhood of the girls reminded you of being with your group of friends, and the you you wrote down those games because you couldn't decide which one to play at a sleepover. Good good. No, that's bad. You don't get a point for that. Tough, tough, tough judge. I think that was good. I think it was good. No, because it has to do with the movie, and none of that has to do with the movie. This is like sisterhood. Why would that remind me like, no, that's not a good question. I'm sorry. You the this was the first time we've done this question. It was probably during the go fish scene, maybe reminded you of something. They were play they're having a family night. They were all playing together. They were playing cards and the guy and the and the sons and Julio Roberts were joking. Mum stormed off. ⁓ and so I think you chose you said, What game was I playing when we made my dad so mad he stormed off during game night? That that that's that would be my guess for question. You guys Which one's worse? I th I did like more. ⁓ I did like Nathan Moore, but I'm gonna give you both a point because that was a bad question and I appreciate your having fun with me on that question. Can we get the answer? I don't have the answer. That's why it was a question. They wanted us to find how that as an answer for a quiz question that I was going to write later. What an insane question to ask. That was great. It was great. That's the first time it's ever happened in the history of the What did we do? I knew the minute it started happening, I was like, ⁓ something special's happening right now. Here's another special question. This is a real one. This will be easier and you can't get mad at this one. ⁓ and it will start with it's Brent's for Brent's turn. Wait, wait, before we move on, you wanted us to jog your memory 'cause you forgot something. Yeah, and if you could help me. You want us to be clairvoyant. Yeah. Fucking me and Nate on the mentalist. Yeah, okay. Okay. So number six, give yourself a point for every place you can name in your current area that still lets you smoke cigarettes indoors. And we will use Google to verify. So can you name any current place where you can smoke indoors in Edmonton or Cape Brenton? Legally? Or do they or they do legally legally. Legally. Let me see if I read Zero here. Yep. Zero. They the you it It's a tricky situation here. But I'm gonna say zero in Edmonton. Now on the Enoch Reserve, which I do not consider to be Edmonton territory, you are allowed to blow darts in the casino. You can blow as many darts in that casino as you want. But can you smoke in member two Melissa in indoors? In like the casino and stuff, or their ⁓ gaming thing. Can you smoke in there? You can smoke in the bingo hall? Now this doesn't count for Brent because his wife is colluding with him. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, they have that nate reminding me we have a a first or native ⁓ reserve here as well, and they smoke on there. Yeah. It ⁓ nowhere in Canada. So this was not a good question because you can smoke indoors here some places. So you get like six million points. Well, no, I can only name one. Okay. Well name ⁓ it. No, I'm not gonna nope. Nope. I don't like it. These are experimental questions. I don't think that's fair. I love an experimental question and I love I love a decree. So do it. So where do we ⁓ Brent has four, I have three, you have one. All right. Brent, name one other movie or television show that Tom Scarrot has been in. Wow. yeah. Movie or TV show. I guess I he's one of those guys that you know he's in other stuff. ⁓ Golden Girls. Tom Scarrot. I think I'm just gonna make do the safest play available. Law and order. ⁓ you bastard. Okay, well Tom Scarrot has not been a Golden Girls. ⁓ He threw out Law and Order. That's like your Thomas Jefferson on Jeopardy or whatever it was. Right. Tom Scarrot ⁓ played Judge Oliver Taft in the Law and Order Special Victims Unit season five episode Poison. Scarrot won an Emmy. Did he win an Emmy for it? ⁓ fuck, that's very funny. He won an Emmy for his work in Picket Fences. He was in MASH, Alien, Top Gun. kinds of stuff. Anyway, okay, so Nate got a point. Now you guys are tied. Mm-hmm. Okay, we're gonna do I'm gonna do another one of those because I think those are And you cannot say law and order. Okay. You can't Yeah. You know what I mean? Special rule. Yeah, no. I think listen, I use the exploit. You patched the exploit, you know? Yeah. Okay, we'll try this one. name a TV show or movie that the American playwright and actor Sam Shepard has been in. He's also in the movie. He plays Can you just remind me of who he is in the movie? Yes. He is Spud Jones. He is Dolly's husband who does not work. His husband. Is that too hard? Rambo. I'll say Robocop. He was in Robocop two. I don't think that counts. Does that count? No. Of course it counts. Okay, because he was not in ⁓ I didn't even know there was a Robocop 2. He was play it f actor ⁓ wait, hold on. Hold on. No, no, no. Sam wasn't no, okay, so let's do another one. Nope. He wasn't ⁓ he directed somebody that was. I'll do someone easier. ⁓ Okay, easier one. Shirley McLean. Name a TV show or movie Shirley McLean has starred in. Some people are gonna get mad if we can't come up with something. I know, and like here's the thing: I'm so mad at myself because I s I loved her in this movie. I was like, I should go see what else she was in, and I didn't do it, and it's really haunting me right now. Is she some like a is she Carrie Fisher's mom, or is that a different? Debbie Reynolds was Carrie Fisher's mom. Deb I always confuse Shirley McLean and Debbie Reynolds for some reason. Classic mistake. Classic mistake. So I'm really cucked. I said some like it hot. Okay. Some like it hot. Okay. I'm gonna say Shirley McLean. Fried green tomatoes. We're so bad at this. We have a winner. Shirley McLean, of course, was in Some Like It Hot. Gone forever. Wow. Wow. Shit. I have no idea where I even pulled that from. I don't even know anything about Some Like It Hot. Bro. Wait, wait, wait. Hold on. Kate, you gotta stop doing this. She wasn't. ⁓ She was not in Sun Like It Hot or Fried Green Tomatoes. But she was in Postcards from the Ebbs in terms of endearment. Okay, so this is why I confused her. And I was trying to pull the name of that movie and I couldn't remember it. Postcards from the Edge is autobiographical film about Carrie Fisher and her mom. And Shirley McLean plays Debbie Reynolds in Postcards from the Edge. This is why in my brain they got all messed up. We got it. I couldn't remember the name of postcards from the edge. All right. Gosh. Name something Daryl Hannah has been in except other than w what you've already discussed, which is the Kill Bill franchise and Splash. That's what I was gonna say. That's the only one I got is Splash. Fuck. Okay. Britt wins. I think what else she was in. She was in worse. That's okay, you won. And we're gonna give you compliments. Yes, I want compliments. Yep. I am happy that you're ti I'm proud of you that you're taking care of yourself and you look healthy. And you are the type of person that deserves to live a very long, healthy life because you care about people the people around you and the people that are not around you. You're just a good guy and you need to live a long time. Couldn't agree more. Thank you. ⁓ And I would like to say that I'm proud of you for joining the Let's Close the Rings Club. That's a club that I'm a member of and it's an elite group. Yeah. It's an elite group of people who close all three rings every day. And you deserve you deserve credit for being among the top elite athletes of planet Earth. So World Cup Soccer, Brent Murray, same closing the rings. Thank you very much. I appreciate the compliments. Good work on my weird experimental ⁓ steel magnolia. That was that's good ⁓ comedy though, is the excitement, the agony and the ecstasy of of what went in. Sorry. No, I love an experiment, Kate. You know, we gotta keep it fresh. We're almost we're getting to like 160 episodes here. We gotta keep it we gotta keep evolving. What a shame if we were to become stagnant. Not like these characters who had such great arcs. Not us. Could never be. I give you a gold medal for the quiz in the freestyle quiz writing. ⁓ would you guys like to give some medals to this movie? Sure would. It'll be very difficult, I think. I think it'll be very difficult. Yeah. Give my bronze to Julia Roberts. I just loved her. And the only reason why she's not getting higher is because I liked some of our more mature actresses in their roles. I thought she was very, very charming. You really understand why she was a movie star for the next like 10 years after this, is she's just so like some people just have it. Some people just have that charm. Ease and like funness where you're like, I like being near you. Yeah. ⁓ I'm gonna go ⁓ I can't decide. I'm gonna go Julie Roberts as well. ⁓ minus the the wig, she was great. ⁓ I loved the scene in the kitchen where she fought with her mother and the s the line that Kate said that she said about thirty minutes of wonderful or whatever. Wonderful. A lifetime of whatever. I like diabetic well said. Well said. She played diabetic shit very well. She needed that. I could tell she really needed some juice. Yeah, she needs juice for sure. I thought she was great in this movie. I will not be completing the turkey sandwich. It's an open face turkey for you two. I'm gonna give mine to Shirley McLean as Wheeza. ⁓ I could have like this movie would have been just as an enjoyable, maybe even more enjoyable, if it was the story of Claire and Weezer and and the Julia Roberts story was like the side part of their story. Like it was just like, let's just tell the story about these two ladies, because every time they're ⁓ on screen together, it's just they're a perfect comedy deal. They just charmed the hell out of me. So bronze for Shirley McLean. Yeah. And then my silver is gonna go to Claire Bilcher, Olympia Dukakis. ⁓ she gets to go, her character gets to go into the boys' locker room and they're all like barely have towels on. Like she knows what she's doing. Louisa's looking in her mirror. Absolutely. my silver is going to Shirley McClain. ⁓ I thought she was just gonna be a old crotchety mean person, but she played the the mean person and she had one of my Favorite lines where she said, I'm not crazy. I was just I'm just in a bad mood for 40 years. Yes. And excellent dog work. She had work with that dog ⁓ many a scenes. And she and physical comedy, she was good. Excellent silver medal. Yep. I think I liked her performance maybe even more than Olympia Dukakis, but Olympio Dukakis gets my silver medal because it's like one of my favorite characters that I've ever seen in a movie. Like I put her. In a top twenty-five of like just good characters, 'cause everything she says is so funny, and the way she delivers it, and like all her little lines where she's like, If you got nothing nice to say, come sit by me. Like all that kind of shit is just like she's the drunk aunt at every party. I loved her. I she and and like she's just so like classy and like but also like kind of bawdy and funny. She's so good. She gets my silver. Gold metal time. She's no, she's dead. I've never seen her do anything else. I have to like I'm gonna do a little bit of stock. Moonstruck with Look Who's Talking. All the Look who's talking. Yeah, yeah. Definitely saw Look who's talking, but it's been Mr. Holland's Opus. Ooh, I heard that's good. Have you not seen that? Nope. I saw that I remember that's one of those movies from when I was a kid that I remember the commercial so well because it Played on like whatever I was watching that I probably watched the commercial for Mr. Holland's Opus like 7,000 times. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. She's been in a lot of films. ⁓ gold. It's time for the gold medals. Yep. Gets the I mean, the gold goes to Sally. The gold goes to Sally. Her delivery on her monologue when her daughter Shelby has died. And she is like, stop asking me if I'm okay. I'm fine. I can run a mile, but my daughter can't because and she never could. And ⁓ just the grief, just the anger. And then Clary, do it. Punch Wiza. I laughed out loud. I literally like gaffed. Cause you're like, you're sitting there like You're watching Sally V. So intense. It's like, and then just the way it cuts the tension is like it that was probably my favorite part of the movie. Is that good? And you were so right when you started the podcast. It is such a great movie about friendship. It's just a movie about friendship. It's great. And a little bit of diabetes. And a little diabetes. Sprinkled in. I just love how they're also supportive, like like they gotta make the bean. See, you know what I mean? It's like it's just that community thing of like we all have to take care of each other. Yeah, it takes a village. A Weezer is just horrible, but everyone just kind of puts up with her. I like that. I hope I hope that if I ever get into a Weezer phase that people still accept me. We do. We do. Okay, good. my gold medal is Sally Field. ⁓ there's only one way to describe it and she acted her a whole off. I knew you were gonna say it and I agree. Yeah, sh that is Tour de force, that's how you act. ⁓ I think that made Javier Bardem is my favorite male actor. She's my favorite female actor. literally, just that's what you want to see. Actor off the whole movie, not just that scene. I thought I disagree with Nate where you said she didn't bring much until the end, the Mason Miller tool situation. But she was excellent the whole movie. Southern Millen, crazy ass husband named Drum. She has a booty on her. Did you see her in the sweatpants in the first part of the film getting ready for the wedding? She had a wow, she had to carry that wagon the whole movie, and they'd say that she didn't do much. She was 41 when she made this. Yeah. She was 41. I was like that. Cold metal. Yeah. It is a turkey sandwich. It is a Taylor sister. ⁓ obviously. She there was she wasn't even gonna make the medals. And I was like, I couldn't believe it. As I was watching the movie and mentally doing my medals, I'm like, there's just too many good performances and Sally Field's gotta do like two she's gotta be too straight. She's not gonna make it. And then there's that scene at the funeral, and it was just like it was like watching someone go from last it's like watching Secretariat going from last place, just clipping, passing everybody. She beat everybody by two furlongs or whatever horse racing stuff is. You know what I'm saying? It wasn't a photo finish. It was it was a destruction by the end of that speech. And she's just really good at acting, bro. I really want to watch like a girl that's like 10, 11, 12, that's really trying to be a serious actress do that monologue. Like Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I would love that. I'd love that. My daughter. Her presence in this movie was so big and large that sh she should have been called Sally Football Field. Yeah. There you go. Sally Stadium. Sally Acres. Sally Well shall we give this ⁓ movie a rating? I think we should do that right now. Let's rate it. Script for this film based on a play that a guy wrote for his dead sister. So after that, bro, I'm giving it a 10. I'm not I'm not stepping in. This shit's great. I'm giving it a 10 too. Yeah, it's a 10 for the dead sister. 10 for dining hours, it feels like a tight baby. Yeah, it is full. It's a full tight one. Even it is, yeah. It's a big baby, but it's tight. That scene that you mentioned when they're in the football locker room. Like nothing to do with this movie, does not do literally anything except for gives like fun character context to Weezer and Cleary. And I'm like, as it was happening, I was realizing that and being like, I don't care. We could let's do ⁓ ten more of these things because I'm fine to stay with these ladies. Like this is great. Fire's still burning inside. Yeah. The art direction for this film, the sets, the props, the costumes, the floral vests. The furniture, the hair. Have you ever seen such hair? The blush and bashful the red nails. This is so southern. It's it's ridiculous. The fishing hat on drum with the the vest, ⁓ shooting at birds, just the way they talk. The dog working, the the the Easter eggs, literally the Easter eggs. The actual were eggs that they smushed. I thought that was fun. The barrel Hannah's glasses, the Bible pumping. It's a ten. Yeah, it's a ten. It l it's it's so specific. It's so specific to this time and place that it's like a time. You could show us Eddie still from that movie to someone and say that where does this take place? And they say, ⁓ the South. Yeah. Now sometime in the eighties. Probably late eighties. Probably eighty nine. The music for this film. It sure works. I sure was like sad when I had to be sad. There definitely nothing hummable, but nothing annoying. I'm gonna go It has the same ⁓ motif. Yeah. So it is like a real ⁓ what do you call it? It's a real what's the thing? Score? ⁓ score. It has a score. Yeah. I'm gonna give it an eight. I'm gonna give it an eight. I I'm gonna give it a nine just 'cause I really like the motif and it's not too cheesy. It's like just enough It's exactly right. Yeah, it's exactly You need a little schmaltz on it. Yeah. There was enough there was enough scenes like the Crawfish, like was she selling that where the Cajun's article music could have been more well known, some bangers, some Cajun bangers would have been nice. ⁓ But it like I liked what Kate said about it. I also like what Nate said about it. I'm gonna give it a nine. I like that. Fair. Yeah. The genre for this film. Let's see. This is ⁓ comedy drama. It's gotta have some comedy and it's gonna have some drama. It has it in the same scene when it's like Sally Field going from that to punch Weezer in the face and an out loud laugh. Easily ten. Ten. Agree. This is The peaks of both. Yeah. This is as if Step Brothers had some real serious. If Step Brothers made you cry. John if John C. Riley got leukemia in Step Brothers, that's what this movie is like. Yes. Yes. That's it. This is the original ⁓ Boys in the Hood for old Southern women. That's what this movie is. It's about friendship looking out for one another. Someone's gonna die. You just gotta figure out who it was. Julia Robinson's rich. It would have been funny if it ended like Boys in the Hood, where they talked about how Dollboy died a week later and it said Weezer died 13 days later. But yeah, no, it's a ten. Comedy drama, a ten. And then the theme this ⁓ month. Is adult mouths. Movies that are about dialogue. They're not about punching or kicking or shooting. Now, there is probably more gunshots in this movie than in set it off, but they're not aimed ever at people. They're not aimed every at the sky. There's a lot of shit. There's birds that are pooping on the wedding. Yeah. So the dialogue is so good in this movie. They solve their problems by talking to each other. That's a 10 for me, Kate. You did it. In my mind, you have done it. Yeah. They one of the quotes is the older you get, the sillier you get. The older you get, the uglier you get. Got her ass. It's like, come on. It's a ten. Yeah. ⁓ it's a ten. Yeah. It's smart southern snappy women talking. And I've I've after watching this movie, I realized something. Women run the South. Women run the world. Girls. I think you men like to tell us that, but one could argue we do not. No, well the the people that make the decisions will will argue with you, but women they run it and the southern women, they don't mess around. Do you know what's a great scene is when they unplug Julia Roberts from the life support and her husband can't handle it and Drum can't handle it and Sally feels the only one with the spine to stay in the room with her, it's like Yep. Kinda they're like steel magnolias, these ladies, to me. This movie gets a forty-eight point seven. It was it was wonderful. I am so glad I watched it. I never would have watched it without the North American Friends Movie Club to inspire. I would have died. So I would have died not seeing Steel Magnolia. I would recommend it to anybody because it's Dolly and Sherlock McLean and Olympia. ⁓ Is put this movie on with her and cry with her. Yeah, get your tears on her. Seriously. First scene, start bawling. First scene, start crying. So they wriggled his makeup. Hey, at least start crying. The hair is so big. Poor birds. We didn't even talk about the armadillo cake. That was the armadillo cake. That would if if anybody had given a non-10 in art direction, we should we would have had to bring up the armadillo cake because that was some great art direction. I what the last thing I want to say about it, did you guys catch during Sally? ⁓ Field's monologue. ⁓ she said the name of the movie in there, kinda. She kinda did, but she didn't quite. It's like they're supposed to be made of steel or something. Men are supposed to be made of steel, but it's women. And that's that's what the movie's about is just strong like magnolias are women, but they're strong women. But they're made of steel. Steel. Thanks, guys. Thanks for explaining that. Fuck I love how we just said women run the world. And then we just manusplayed the movie that Kate picked. I don't know if you caught on to this Kate, but ladies of the Magnolias and Steele is strong. So those two things don't usually go together. It's a very strong women. I guess it's time for you to tell us what movie we're doing next week, Brant. Yeah, we're getting away from the women for a week. we're watching a movie, a black and white movie from nineteen fifty-seven. Ooh. And it's called Twelve Angry Men. Never saw it. I I hear it's quite ⁓ important. but there's gonna be a lot of twelve Angry Men. What's this? ⁓ a DM chat group? I don't know. I'll get better with I'll get better references. That's a good have you seen this, Nate? I have seen this film. It's pretty amazing. Pretty amazing. I haven't seen it since I had to watch this in my film class in college and I haven't seen it since then and I don't remember it very well. Well I've never heard of it until I looked up movies with a lot of dialogue and I started reading about it. I was like, this is this is movies with a lot of dialogue. This is and this is ⁓ Henry Fonda, I'm pretty sure, who is a big boy. Henry Fonda's like a real big boy. Heavy hitter. I'm writing with the heavy hitters. Or is he slinging? He's he's he's close to that d Daniel Day Lewis big papa acting. You got a lockdown there. I ⁓ it was either this or swingers. So you made the right choice. Yeah, I don't want to watch swingers. Yeah, I figured no one did, so I just remembered Vince Bond talking to me fast. I would just maybe have fast forwarded through parts. Sure. Yeah. It took you 12 minutes to watch it. Well, I'm looking forward to being three happy friends next week while we watch 12 angry men. ⁓ my gosh. That means all that's left to do is say goodnight, Kate. Good night, Kate. Good night, Kate. Good evening. Life is at stake. saying it's possible. It's not possible. Before we did it, I was like prepared. I was like, this might be the first time I have to give him a note if his beep is too long, but he did the right beep. Perfect. I worked at a hospital way too long. I know. I don't know why I doubted you for a second. I don't know why I even thought of it.
