- 0:00Aloha. Thursday morning. Tropical Storm Nolo is moving away, but it's leaving heavy rain behind on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu through tomorrow.
- 1:46Expect moderate to heavy showers on Kauaʻi and Oʻahu — rain falling at 1–2 inches per hour at times. Other islands see occasional showers and clouds. No flash flood warnings yet, but if rain bands stall, localized nuisance flooding is possible. Saturday, drier air moves in and things improve significantly.
- 2:01Surf is moderate on Oʻahu's south shore at 4.5 feet and north shore at 4.1 feet — watch for shore break and rip currents on less protected beaches. Kauaʻi is 4.9 feet. Maui and the Big Island are smaller at 3.2 and 2.2 feet — comfortable for swimmers. Today's a watch-from-shore day on Oʻahu, but Maui and the Big Island are better for water time.
- 2:18Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is operating, but several trails and roads have closures — Mauna Loa Road is closed for tree removal, Kīpukapuaulu Trail is closed due to hazardous trees, and Sulphur Banks Bridge is down. The boardwalk is open. Volcanic ash is present in some areas, so protect yourself if you're hiking.
- 2:34Our latest piece on Kauaʻi covers which visitor businesses have reopened and which are still waiting to come back. Most are open, but local operators are reporting slow demand. If you're heading to the island, check ahead before booking. Today's heavy rain will make some roads slower, so plan extra travel time.
- 2:50Friday stays wet, but starting Saturday, drier air and lighter winds move in. The weekend looks much better for beach and water time, and that improvement holds through most of next week.
- 2:59If you're on Kauaʻi, grab our Kauaʻi Essential guide — it's a solid reference for road conditions and what's open. Catch you tomorrow.
