- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. I'm Lucas, and this is Luna. We're so glad you're with us for this special episode. Luna: Special? Oh, is it our two hundredth episode? That feels like a big deal. Lucas: It is. Two hundred episodes of learning Amharic together. And I thought we'd mark it with something fun and a little different. Luna: Ooh, I love a celebration. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today, we're heading to the countryside. We're going to learn two animals you'd see on a farm: sheep and goat. Luna: Sheep and goat. We've done horse and cow, but not these. Perfect for episode two hundred. Lucas: Exactly. So let's start with sheep. In Amharic, sheep is በግ. Luna: በግ. Lucas: Nice. በግ. It's a short, crisp word. Sheep. Now, goat is ፍየል. Luna: ፍየል. That's fun to say. ፍየል. Lucas: You got it. So we have በግ for sheep and ፍየል for goat. Let's put them together. Can you say both? Luna: በግ and ፍየል. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's use them in a simple sentence. To say 'the sheep is here', you say በግ እዚህ አለ. Luna: በግ እዚህ አለ. So that's 'the sheep is here'. Lucas: Right. በግ is 'sheep', እዚህ is 'here', አለ is 'is'. So literally 'sheep here is'. Luna: I like that. It's like putting the pieces together. በግ እዚህ አለ. Lucas: Now, what about asking where the goats are? You'd say ፍየሎች የት ናቸው? Luna: ፍየሎች የት ናቸው? That's 'where are the goats?' I hear the plural there. Lucas: Yes, we add ች for plural, so ፍየል becomes ፍየሎች. And የት is 'where', ናቸው is 'are they'. Luna: So ፍየሎች የት ናቸው? Where are the goats? Lucas: Perfect. Now let's put both animals in one sentence. To say 'the sheep and the goat are in the countryside', you say በጉ እና ፍየሉ በገጠር ናቸው. Luna: That's a longer one. በጉ እና ፍየሉ በገጠር ናቸው. Let me break that down. Lucas: Sure. በጉ is 'the sheep', እና is 'and', ፍየሉ is 'the goat', በገጠር is 'in the countryside', ናቸው is 'they are'. Luna: Okay, so በጉ እና ፍየሉ በገጠር ናቸው. I think I've got it. Lucas: Let's practice all five phrases together. First, just the words: በግ, ፍየል. Luna: በግ, ፍየል. Lucas: And the sentences: በግ እዚህ አለ. ፍየሎች የት ናቸው? በጉ እና ፍየሉ በገጠር ናቸው. Luna: በግ እዚህ አለ. ፍየሎች የት ናቸው? በጉ እና ፍየሉ በገጠር ናቸው. Lucas: Beautiful. You're ready for the farm. Now let's imagine we're at a small village. We see a sheep right next to us. Luna: Oh, let me say it. በግ እዚህ አለ. Lucas: And the goats are nowhere to be found. You ask someone. Luna: ፍየሎች የት ናቸው? Lucas: The person points to the hills and says, በጉ እና ፍየሉ በገጠር ናቸው. So both are out in the countryside. Luna: That makes sense. So they're having a little adventure. Lucas: Exactly. And that's our topic for this episode. I hope you enjoyed the farm visit. Luna: I did. And I'm pretty proud of my pronunciation. በግ, ፍየል, በግ እዚህ አለ, ፍየሎች የት ናቸው? That last one is still a bit tricky. Lucas: You'll get it with practice. And you know what, if you're enjoying these lessons and they've been helping you make progress, there's a simple way to support the show. You can buy us a coffee at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Yeah, it really helps keep things going ad-free. And every bit is appreciated. Lucas: So no pressure, but if you feel like it, that's where you can do it. Now, let's go back to our animals. Let's try a quick review. Can you say 'sheep' one more time? Luna: በግ. Lucas: And 'goat'? Luna: ፍየል. Lucas: And 'the sheep is here'? Luna: በግ እዚህ አለ. Lucas: And 'where are the goats?' Luna: ፍየሎች የት ናቸው? Lucas: And the last one, 'the sheep and the goat are in the countryside'. Luna: በጉ እና ፍየሉ በገጠር ናቸው. That one is a mouthful, but I like it. Lucas: You did great. That's it for today's episode. Remember, practice makes progress. See you next time on Learn Amharic with Fexingo. Luna: Thanks for joining us. We'll see you again soon.
