Speaker 1: And now move the Sticks with Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
0:07
Speaker 2: What's up everybody walking on to move the Sticks? DJ, Bucky,
0:09
Speaker 2: Rhett and three different states all across the country today.
0:14
Speaker 2: But it's great to be with you fellas as we
0:16
Speaker 2: as we always do on Monday, we go through a
0:18
Speaker 2: group of eight games that we like to dig a
0:20
Speaker 2: little deeper on today, though, I think we got to start.
0:23
Speaker 2: Let's start on a college football side, buck the playoffs?
0:26
Speaker 2: The four teams? Are you outraged? Some are outraged? How
0:30
Speaker 2: about you?
0:33
Speaker 3: Man? Like, I feel like I'm gonna tag this in
0:36
Speaker 3: the worst way possible As a media member, you're spposed
0:38
Speaker 3: to have a strong opinion and all of that, and
0:41
Speaker 3: I go back and forth. The coaching me is disappointed
0:44
Speaker 3: with Florida State being left out because all the things
0:47
Speaker 3: that you talk about when you're dealing with the team is, Hey,
0:50
Speaker 3: it doesn't matter what happens. We can survive it, we
0:52
Speaker 3: can overcome it. Hey the quarterback is down, doesn't matter,
0:55
Speaker 3: put it back up in next man up. YadA, YadA, YadA.
0:58
Speaker 3: That's said. The teams that I wanted.
1:01
Speaker 2: To see, Yeah, yeah, I'm seeing.
1:04
Speaker 3: And so and so. Then like that's the thing. I understand.
1:07
Speaker 3: Florida State is very deserving of being in it. They
1:09
Speaker 3: should be in. They're undefeated, like they beat everybody they
1:12
Speaker 3: were supposed to beat and all of those things, and
1:15
Speaker 3: Jordan Travis not being there certainly impacts them. They have
1:19
Speaker 3: a right and they should be in. But if they're
1:21
Speaker 3: not going to be in, and we talked about the matchups, like, man,
1:24
Speaker 3: it doesn't get much better than watching Michigan take on
1:27
Speaker 3: Alabama after Alabama knocked off Georgia and then Texas and
1:30
Speaker 3: you Dubb going at it in the other round, like,
1:33
Speaker 3: I mean, like that's what you want. And so it's
1:35
Speaker 3: unfortunate that Florida State is left out, but I mean
1:40
Speaker 3: it's a TV product, it's not a real tournament.
1:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I would just I would first like
1:46
Speaker 1: to say briefly that, you know, after a lot of
1:50
Speaker 1: back channeling and a lot of offers from other podcasts
1:54
Speaker 1: such as around the NFL, the Peter Schrager thing, I
1:58
Speaker 1: have actually decided not to enter the transfer portal.
2:01
Speaker 2: I will game.
2:04
Speaker 1: So I just wanted to make that clear as a
2:07
Speaker 1: lot of that has kind of been floating around out
2:10
Speaker 1: there as the portal is open. I remained loyal. I'm
2:14
Speaker 1: just waiting, hey, just so you know, just you know,
2:16
Speaker 1: part of your.
2:16
Speaker 2: NIL package to get you to stay is we're actually
2:19
Speaker 2: get you some wireless headphones that we're working. That's gonna
2:24
Speaker 2: be awesome.
2:25
Speaker 1: I kind of come at it the same way as
2:26
Speaker 1: Bucky like I, although I'll take it a step further.
2:29
Speaker 1: On the Florida State side, I'm devastated for those players
2:32
Speaker 1: and for that coaching staff that put all that work in,
2:35
Speaker 1: but the acc you know, dragging their feet on making
2:40
Speaker 1: this a twelve team playoff this year, and I think
2:43
Speaker 1: we could have, we could have gotten past all this.
2:45
Speaker 2: I think there's a lot of.
2:46
Speaker 1: Blame to go around here, and bottom line is we
2:49
Speaker 1: should have been to twelve teams way sooner than we were.
2:52
Speaker 1: The fact that the fact we had Power five conferences
2:55
Speaker 1: left open the possibility that you can have five undefeated
2:58
Speaker 1: Power five champions and somebody was going to get left out.
3:01
Speaker 2: Now, obviously that's not exactly.
3:03
Speaker 1: How it worked out here, but you know, you open
3:06
Speaker 1: yourself up to that possibility with a fourteen playoff and
3:09
Speaker 1: five Power five conferences. So unfortunately they get the short
3:14
Speaker 1: end of the stick. But man, these games are going
3:16
Speaker 1: to be incredible.
3:17
Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I agree with you guys. I'm not like
3:20
Speaker 2: coming down super hard. I did. I did agree with
3:23
Speaker 2: what Dan Mullenz said, which was something that I was
3:27
Speaker 2: I didn't understand why people weren't bringing this up because
3:29
Speaker 2: they were like, well, you know, Florida State, they didn't
3:32
Speaker 2: look very good with their third string quarterback beating Louisville,
3:36
Speaker 2: And I'm like, Alabama had their starting quarterback against a
3:40
Speaker 2: terrible Auburn team and needed the miracle fourth and thirty
3:44
Speaker 2: one to win that game. And that was two weeks ago.
3:46
Speaker 2: That wasn't like this was something that took place two
3:49
Speaker 2: months ago. It was like it was like amnesia, Like
3:52
Speaker 2: we just pretend like that Auburn game never happened. But
3:55
Speaker 2: you knew they were not going to leave the SEC
3:56
Speaker 2: out of me.
3:57
Speaker 3: I would.
3:57
Speaker 2: I mean, there was no when they were revealing the
3:59
Speaker 2: teams and they're coming off and I'm like, there's just
4:01
Speaker 2: no chance to leave in SEC out of this thing.
4:04
Speaker 2: And they've and in their defense, they've earned the right
4:06
Speaker 2: because of the success they've had once they've got into
4:08
Speaker 2: the tournament. But the other two thoughts that I had
4:11
Speaker 2: real quick. Number One, this is why I never understood,
4:14
Speaker 2: like we go from four to twelve. I'm like, the
4:16
Speaker 2: obvious thing was they should have been six teams from
4:18
Speaker 2: the jump, all five Power five winners. You're in. It's done.
4:24
Speaker 2: There's actually meeting and winning your conference, and you get
4:26
Speaker 2: one wildcard and then I'm sure we'll be an SEC
4:29
Speaker 2: team every year. Who cares whatever, But that gives you
4:31
Speaker 2: that's your six teams. And I don't think you can
4:33
Speaker 2: really cry. It's one thing you say, like, oh, we
4:35
Speaker 2: should have been six, But like then you can always
4:37
Speaker 2: come back and say, win your conference, you win your conference,
4:40
Speaker 2: you're in. That's why it sucks for Florida States, like, yeah,
4:43
Speaker 2: we did it, we did win our conference. And oh,
4:44
Speaker 2: by the way, did Cardial Jones leed Ohio State to
4:46
Speaker 2: a national championship? I think I remember that happening. Yeah,
4:50
Speaker 2: so that those are some of my thoughts on that one.
4:54
Speaker 2: But I'm with you guys in that I think it's
4:56
Speaker 2: a I think it's compelling matchups. And I would say,
4:59
Speaker 2: by do you think that Harbaugh now changes that period
5:02
Speaker 2: in practice from the Georgia period to the Alabama period
5:05
Speaker 2: where they get real physical in the nine on seven?
5:08
Speaker 3: Okay, So as a big fan of both coaches approaches.
5:11
Speaker 3: I love how Harbor attacks, I love how Michigan plays.
5:13
Speaker 3: I love how Alabama played. I would have preferred not
5:15
Speaker 3: to see them in the semi finals because I think, like,
5:18
Speaker 3: that's it. But I think it's very telling during the
5:21
Speaker 3: reveal show when they're like, Michigan, you have Alabama.
5:25
Speaker 2: Yeah, they were hoping for the Knowles. I mean, as
5:29
Speaker 2: much as we feel bad for the Noles, I guarantee
5:31
Speaker 2: you that that the Michigan they were hoping that was
5:35
Speaker 2: going to be the Knowles.
5:36
Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, but no. Look, look, the matchups are great, right.
5:40
Speaker 3: They're great on one side because you got old school football,
5:42
Speaker 3: Michigan versus Alabama. You're gonna line it up who's the
5:45
Speaker 3: more physical team, who's gonna be disciplined, in detailed and
5:47
Speaker 3: all that. Then you have the explosive teams in Washington
5:50
Speaker 3: and Texas. And here's the thing that I think everyone
5:53
Speaker 3: could talk about. I went on radio and even talked
5:55
Speaker 3: about this. When Oregon was about to play Washington. I
5:59
Speaker 3: was like, look, Oregon's the best team in college football
6:01
Speaker 3: the last five weeks. If you looked at them, I
6:03
Speaker 3: expect them to kind of knock off washing it and
6:06
Speaker 3: then you keee the ball up and you do really
6:09
Speaker 3: control the action from beginning to end. So that's why
6:11
Speaker 3: we have to be careful in terms of the eyeball
6:13
Speaker 3: test and what our eyes sellers as opposed to a
6:16
Speaker 3: left put the ball down and lift. See what it
6:17
Speaker 3: looked like when you.
6:18
Speaker 2: Play yelp the results. The results shouldn't matter there. So anyways,
6:21
Speaker 2: it'll all be fixed. Next year we get twelve teams,
6:24
Speaker 2: which is six too many. All right, let's get into
6:27
Speaker 2: Let's get into some of these games. I'm going to
6:29
Speaker 2: do you guys a favor. I'm going to do you
6:31
Speaker 2: guys a favor because we always start out with the
6:33
Speaker 2: games that Bucky and I are at. Usually he always
6:36
Speaker 2: kicks it off. Don't talk about that game six to
6:39
Speaker 2: nothing Chargers over the Patriots, and I'll say, look the Chargers,
6:43
Speaker 2: they did what they need to do. JK. Scott pinned
6:46
Speaker 2: them inside the twenty I think seven times. One of
6:48
Speaker 2: the better punning performances I've seen. It was rainy, it
6:50
Speaker 2: was what the stadium was half empty. Haven't been in
6:53
Speaker 2: that stadium when Tom Brady has come out of the
6:55
Speaker 2: tunnel in a playoff game and been there and seen
6:57
Speaker 2: the fist pump and felt the electricity in there than
7:00
Speaker 2: a door nail in that stadium, and there's nothing there,
7:02
Speaker 2: and it's to me, it's you know, it feels like
7:06
Speaker 2: it's time to start something fresh and new. And it
7:08
Speaker 2: was an unbelievable chapter. I mean, we're talking to the
7:11
Speaker 2: pregam show. I think you know, Belichick's been in the
7:13
Speaker 2: Super Bowl half of his years in New England, which
7:15
Speaker 2: is insane when when you put that together, unbelievable run.
7:18
Speaker 2: But let's get it. Let's let's get a fresh start here.
7:21
Speaker 2: Let's get an offensive minded head coach. You right now,
7:23
Speaker 2: they have the second pick in the draft, and let's
7:25
Speaker 2: try and change it because this is painful. I felt like,
7:28
Speaker 2: at halftime, Buck, I'll get to you and then we
7:31
Speaker 2: can really move off this game. But at halftime they
7:34
Speaker 2: had I think it was a I don't know what
7:36
Speaker 2: the age group was, but a girls flag football game.
7:38
Speaker 2: Infinitely more entertaining than what we saw in the first
7:42
Speaker 2: half of that game. It was painful. Buck.
7:44
Speaker 3: Okay, so look, I understand offense everything, but this Patriots
7:48
Speaker 3: team because this is I guess an indictment on Bill
7:51
Speaker 3: Belichick and his coaching. But I'm looking four times this year,
7:54
Speaker 3: this team is tailed teams to ten or peer.
7:56
Speaker 4: Points four times three those the last three weeks.
8:00
Speaker 3: I understand, like if poor dirt on Belichick or whatever,
8:06
Speaker 3: But man like, from a defensive standpoint, he is he
8:10
Speaker 3: still got its fast. I don't. I don't know what
8:15
Speaker 3: to make of the offense. I think like whatever quarterback
8:18
Speaker 3: they put in Bailey Zappy mac Jones, he kind of
8:20
Speaker 3: ham is always going to struggle. But man like, I understand,
8:25
Speaker 3: like it's been dead, and you said the stadium is dead.
8:29
Speaker 3: But God, who are they gonna get to replace them?
8:32
Speaker 3: And how are they going to get I.
8:33
Speaker 2: Wouldn't want the job, there's gonna be there's gonna be job.
8:36
Speaker 2: I wouldn't want it. But if they pick first or second,
8:38
Speaker 2: you're gonna be like, well, I come in with a
8:39
Speaker 2: new quarterback of ability.
8:42
Speaker 3: No, but I'm saying, but what about the Popovich thing?
8:44
Speaker 3: Because everyone Greg Popovitch was absolutely terrible? After all the
8:47
Speaker 3: Hall of Famers lead Winby comes back and they signed
8:49
Speaker 3: him to a new deal and away we go with
8:51
Speaker 3: the Spurs all over again. So is that a situation
8:54
Speaker 3: where if the Patriots finished with the number one overall pick,
8:57
Speaker 3: they get their pick of quarterbacks. Are we really do
9:01
Speaker 3: we really want to move on from Belichick or do
9:03
Speaker 3: we not trust him to be able to get it
9:05
Speaker 3: right with the number one overall pick.
9:07
Speaker 2: I don't.
9:08
Speaker 1: I mean, like, I don't think it's gonna be that
9:09
Speaker 1: hard with with the picks at the very top there,
9:13
Speaker 1: with the quarterbacks that are gonna be out. But what
9:16
Speaker 1: what has obviously been way more difficult than I think
9:19
Speaker 1: anyone anticipated was Bill and the front off and the
9:23
Speaker 1: evaluation staff up there building a winner on offense with personnel.
9:28
Speaker 1: I mean, like we can we can point to you know,
9:30
Speaker 1: we can say, hey, you know, Bill's done a great
9:32
Speaker 1: job with the defense that he has and his staff
9:34
Speaker 1: over there with Rod Mayo and U with Steve Belich,
9:37
Speaker 1: and like they're they're doing they're doing a pretty good job.
9:39
Speaker 2: But like offensively, like you look around and it's you know,
9:43
Speaker 2: the Bill, what do you got? I can't see it.
9:46
Speaker 2: That's all. The lighting doesn't work, san Antonio is three
9:50
Speaker 2: and sixteen. That's all I was saying. Okay, nonetheless, to.
9:57
Speaker 1: A certain extent, the buck stops with Bill and personnel,
10:01
Speaker 1: And can anyone sit there and say that the Patriots
10:03
Speaker 1: should be better than they are on offense.
10:06
Speaker 2: Well, I'll add this. I'll add this too, because I
10:08
Speaker 2: was getting a bunch of texts like this is the
10:10
Speaker 2: Patriots like Iowa. They're like the Iowa. And here's the
10:14
Speaker 2: thing when you go to when you watch the game,
10:16
Speaker 2: it's different, I feel like and a little bit like
10:20
Speaker 2: this with the Jets too, where the defense is really good,
10:23
Speaker 2: but the numbers are skewed because offensively you play so
10:28
Speaker 2: conservatively when you're playing against them, like, as long as
10:30
Speaker 2: we don't give them, if we force them to have
10:33
Speaker 2: to go the distance of the field, like we're not
10:35
Speaker 2: go fourth and one, fourth and one at the forty five, ah,
10:38
Speaker 2: poachpun it, just poachpon it, like just you know they're
10:40
Speaker 2: not going to score. So there's no there's no there's
10:43
Speaker 2: no pressure on the opposing offense to put the foot
10:47
Speaker 2: on the gas and really try and go out there
10:48
Speaker 2: and try and get you a bunch of points. It's
10:50
Speaker 2: don't screw up, don't turn the ball over, let them
10:52
Speaker 2: travel length of the field. They can't do it. You
10:54
Speaker 2: got six points. I made the point during the show
10:56
Speaker 2: I age myself, but I ask money. I'm like money.
10:58
Speaker 2: You remember the show eight is enough. He's like, yeah,
11:01
Speaker 2: that's how you play New England. You get eight points.
11:03
Speaker 2: It's over like, that's enough.
11:05
Speaker 1: And here's here's what I'll say and tell me if
11:08
Speaker 1: I'm wrong on this. But let's say the Patriots do
11:10
Speaker 1: end up with the first overall pick. Let's say they
11:12
Speaker 1: take one of the quarterbacks. You might be worse off
11:16
Speaker 1: than the Carolina Panthers are with Bryce Young this year,
11:18
Speaker 1: with what New England has so like, think about that
11:21
Speaker 1: for a second. Right, they got a lot of work
11:23
Speaker 1: to do, and using Carolina as as an example, you
11:26
Speaker 1: hope that you don't, you know, cause irrevocable damage to
11:30
Speaker 1: a number one overall pick quarterback based off not being
11:33
Speaker 1: able to help him enough with personnel around.
11:36
Speaker 2: I would say I'll piggyback that and then we'll move on.
11:39
Speaker 2: I will say this, though, I take Grimondre Stevenson over
11:42
Speaker 2: any back they have on their team. Their offensive lines better,
11:45
Speaker 2: the combination of Hunter Henry and Mike Kasicki's better than
11:50
Speaker 2: in my opinion, with Hayden Hurst and what they're playing
11:52
Speaker 2: with in Carolina. Yeah, but we're talking about margin. I'll
11:55
Speaker 2: take but I mean I'll take DeVante Parker. I'm just
11:57
Speaker 2: saying it's Carolina is historically terrible in terms of the
12:01
Speaker 2: situation for Briceham. This is the offensive pieces are not
12:05
Speaker 2: as dire as that is. But I just I'm telling you,
12:09
Speaker 2: I'm watching Bailey's appy. I wish him the best. I
12:11
Speaker 2: hope he has a long CERs. He's not a starting
12:13
Speaker 2: quarterback in the NFL. Like, come on, like, you have
12:15
Speaker 2: no chance. He can't They can't throw. He can't throw
12:18
Speaker 2: the ball down the field. Like it's you talk about
12:20
Speaker 2: playing half court, Buck, this is like playing inside the
12:22
Speaker 2: key like you It wasn't even half court basketball. So
12:26
Speaker 2: I don't know that's enough in this game. Let's move
12:27
Speaker 2: let's let's let's let's move on. Who's up next here?
12:32
Speaker 2: Good question, Buck, Buck, You're up next, and you've got
12:35
Speaker 2: you got the Pack and the you got the Pack
12:36
Speaker 2: and the Chiefs. I think that no Bill put that
12:38
Speaker 2: number two in the order because I.
12:40
Speaker 3: Wonder, Yeah, what do I So here's the thing. I've
12:44
Speaker 3: always been cautiouly optimistic about the Packers being able to
12:47
Speaker 3: move on succesfullly after Aaron Rodgers, I felt like, yeah,
12:51
Speaker 3: despite Aaron Rodgers's greatness as of whatever, four time m
12:54
Speaker 3: v P I felt like his presence was holding them back.
12:57
Speaker 3: I think what we got a chance to see Sunday
12:59
Speaker 3: night is when you remove him and you kind of
13:01
Speaker 3: remove all of the old players that he liked to
13:04
Speaker 3: hang on to, you kind of saw the growth of
13:07
Speaker 3: this team. We saw a bunch of young pass catchers.
13:09
Speaker 3: We saw the young quarterback and Jordan Love. We saw
13:12
Speaker 3: a team that looked like they're growing together. And even
13:15
Speaker 3: though this might be like the pinnacle of their season
13:18
Speaker 3: knocking off the Kansas City Chiefs, we could see where
13:21
Speaker 3: this team could be down the line. Jordan Love got
13:24
Speaker 3: the ball out on time, it was on target. They
13:27
Speaker 3: ran the football with aj Dillon, They were able to
13:29
Speaker 3: really bring in a bunch of young pass catchers that
13:32
Speaker 3: were really getting open and doing things. And this offense
13:36
Speaker 3: looked like the more ball control, high percentage passing run game,
13:42
Speaker 3: complementing it with the defense playing well that we expected
13:45
Speaker 3: to see. And then you look at this schedule and
13:48
Speaker 3: they're prior for a playoff run, like you can reasonably
13:51
Speaker 3: look at their schedule and say, hey man, they may
13:53
Speaker 3: be able to get the ten wins. And if they're
13:55
Speaker 3: able to do that with the young quarterbacks and all
13:57
Speaker 3: of that I think the run off will feel vindicated
14:02
Speaker 3: for kind of moving on and dealing with all of
14:04
Speaker 3: the stuff they had to deal with the fall out
14:06
Speaker 3: of Aaron Rodgers departure.
14:09
Speaker 2: I think they already are vindicated. I mean, I think
14:11
Speaker 2: that even if they don't win another game, they feel
14:13
Speaker 2: like that this young quarterback has shown promise. Obviously he's healthy,
14:17
Speaker 2: which is a difference between the two when you factor
14:20
Speaker 2: in the age and health. So they've got their guy.
14:22
Speaker 2: They're off and running the bill, obviously putting in the
14:25
Speaker 2: chat here that they're number seven seed in the NFC
14:27
Speaker 2: as stands right now, it is I'll tell you what
14:29
Speaker 2: the other thing htt I'll go to you quick on
14:31
Speaker 2: this the uh you know, going through that game a
14:33
Speaker 2: little bit this morning watching the explosives, I think they
14:36
Speaker 2: had five at least five guys who catch over fifteen
14:39
Speaker 2: yards in this game. Like they they have they have
14:42
Speaker 2: a way to sprout. That was a difference in the
14:44
Speaker 2: two teams. And you look at the Chiefs and it's
14:46
Speaker 2: like the Chiefs have a descending Kelsey who's still you know,
14:50
Speaker 2: one of the best in the league, but a descending
14:52
Speaker 2: you have an ascending Rashi Rice who hasn't got there yet,
14:55
Speaker 2: and then that and then you got to run you
14:57
Speaker 2: guys in the middle. That's it. So, I mean the
14:59
Speaker 2: pack from a quality of depth compared to the Chiefs
15:02
Speaker 2: wasn't even close. Not to mention the on the other
15:05
Speaker 2: side of it, the Chiefs offensive tackles who we've had
15:07
Speaker 2: concerns and questions, but they're not good. I mean it's
15:10
Speaker 2: not like they aren't. Oh they aren't championship, but they're
15:13
Speaker 2: not good Like that is not a good tackle combo
15:16
Speaker 2: they have there.
15:17
Speaker 1: Nice to see Lucas van n Asks take advantage big
15:19
Speaker 1: sack of Patrick Mahomes down there as well. Look in
15:23
Speaker 1: I mean, anybody surprised that the second half of the season,
15:25
Speaker 1: Christian Watson is coming on with a vengeance. Now, unfortunately
15:28
Speaker 1: he goes down with the hamstring injury at the end,
15:30
Speaker 1: which you know didn't look particularly encouraging.
15:33
Speaker 2: But that's a dude right there.
15:35
Speaker 1: And if he's healthy, man, that is that is a
15:37
Speaker 1: that is an a one wide receiver in my book,
15:39
Speaker 1: watching him, watching him, you know, excel last couple of weeks.
15:42
Speaker 1: So does a lot of fun and the Packers feeling good.
15:46
Speaker 1: The Floor Family sweep this weekend with the Rams over
15:48
Speaker 1: there too.
15:49
Speaker 2: Yeah, nicely done. I will say at right as you
15:51
Speaker 2: get us to the next game. The tough one, tough
15:54
Speaker 2: day for the for the Kansas City equipment staff because
15:57
Speaker 2: they're so used to it at the end of the season,
15:59
Speaker 2: taking the road jerseys and just boxing them up for
16:02
Speaker 2: next year. They're gonna need their road jerseys this year.
16:06
Speaker 2: I mean, they're gonna get in the tournament, but they're
16:08
Speaker 2: gonna actually have to wear the road uniforms and they're
16:10
Speaker 2: not going to get a bye. So it's gonna be it.
16:12
Speaker 2: It's gonna be the biggest challenge that this Chiefs team
16:14
Speaker 2: with Mahomes and Read together has faced if they're going
16:17
Speaker 2: to get back into the Super Bowl.
16:19
Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I'll move us on Colts and Titans in
16:22
Speaker 1: the AFC.
16:22
Speaker 2: So this game was absolutely bunkers.
16:26
Speaker 1: I mean, the plays that happened in this game, like
16:28
Speaker 1: you could go you could go five seasons without seeing
16:31
Speaker 1: all of these plays happen in that in that span,
16:34
Speaker 1: and we had them all in this game.
16:36
Speaker 2: First off, Will Levis fumble the ball.
16:40
Speaker 1: Twenty yards downfield from inside the pocket and sprinted like
16:44
Speaker 1: a madman to force the fumble and recover it. Downfield
16:47
Speaker 1: on Julian Blackman I've never seen, and then he actually
16:50
Speaker 1: got up and ran for a touchdown, but he ended
16:52
Speaker 1: up getting touched, so it did come back, but they
16:54
Speaker 1: ended up scoring on that possession.
16:56
Speaker 2: That would have been a huge turnover for the Colts.
16:59
Speaker 1: The Titan or the Colts blocked two punts on back
17:03
Speaker 1: to back punts. One they returned for a touchdown with
17:06
Speaker 1: Greg Stewart, mister Irrelevant from the Bucks a couple.
17:08
Speaker 2: Of years ago.
17:09
Speaker 1: And then on that one, they're going for two and
17:12
Speaker 1: the Titans pick it off and return it for two points.
17:16
Speaker 1: So it was like a four point swing on that
17:19
Speaker 1: one little sequence. Then they blocked the next punt end
17:22
Speaker 1: up getting a field goal out of it. Like I
17:23
Speaker 1: just kept we kept coming back to her on Game
17:25
Speaker 1: Day Live and I'm like, guys, why are we showing
17:27
Speaker 1: a punt again? Like really, And it just kept happening.
17:31
Speaker 1: But the thing that I left really encouraged, and obviously
17:33
Speaker 1: the Colts go down and win this thing in overtime.
17:35
Speaker 1: Alec Pierce is and either they're unlocking him in what
17:40
Speaker 1: I felt like he was meant to do when they
17:42
Speaker 1: drafted him in the second round. A couple of years
17:44
Speaker 1: ago to Cincinnati, like that deep ball threat. He was
17:47
Speaker 1: constantly behind the last man on the Titan secondary, constantly
17:51
Speaker 1: winning off the ball and just showcasing that speed, that
17:55
Speaker 1: stride lenked with his frame that.
17:56
Speaker 2: It's tough to deal with. And he's a big, strong,
17:59
Speaker 2: physical body in there. Watching him catch that deep ball
18:01
Speaker 2: to open the scoring, and then a couple more down
18:04
Speaker 2: the stretch. Look, anyone caught three passes.
18:06
Speaker 1: But with Michael Pittman as your six guy and this
18:09
Speaker 1: guy that you can kind of constantly rely on the
18:11
Speaker 1: middle of the field, Alec Pierce, the deep ball threat,
18:13
Speaker 1: Josh Down's coming, okay, Like the Colts are starting to
18:16
Speaker 1: show they've got they've got some development there with some
18:18
Speaker 1: of these young wide receivers. That's head tip to our
18:21
Speaker 1: old buddy Reggie Wayne.
18:23
Speaker 3: How about that. Reggie Wayne deserves a lot of credit
18:26
Speaker 3: because he has there was wide receivers playing at a
18:28
Speaker 3: high level. You talked about Alec Pearce finally being able
18:31
Speaker 3: to break out. Josh Downs has been great from the jump,
18:34
Speaker 3: and then Michael Pittman really settling into that number one
18:37
Speaker 3: wide receiver role. Garner Minshew having watched him up close
18:41
Speaker 3: in Jacksonville, He's as streaky as they come. When he
18:44
Speaker 3: gets hot, though he looked he can play with the
18:47
Speaker 3: best of them, and what you see is the good
18:49
Speaker 3: and the bad when ment you. But man, you talk
18:53
Speaker 3: about hat tip to Reggie Wayne, how about hat tip
18:55
Speaker 3: to Shane Syke and getting this team this seven and
18:57
Speaker 3: they're in the playoff Mick, I don't think any of us,
19:01
Speaker 3: particularly me being in Jacksonville, thought that the Colts and
19:04
Speaker 3: the Texans would not only push to win the division,
19:08
Speaker 3: but they will make the postseason if they continue to
19:11
Speaker 3: trend like their trending. I mean, they have really done
19:14
Speaker 3: an outstanding job of I can't even say rebuilding. I
19:18
Speaker 3: would say retooling this team on the fly. While steel
19:22
Speaker 3: winning games. Remarkable job by them well.
19:25
Speaker 2: To have a callback to the top of the show.
19:27
Speaker 2: It's just a bummer for the Colts that even if
19:29
Speaker 2: they have a good enough record to get into the postseason,
19:31
Speaker 2: because their starting quarterback is hurt, they will get by
19:38
Speaker 2: the way again. One of the one of the team
19:40
Speaker 2: building things that I've always I've struggled to grapple with
19:44
Speaker 2: here is I just have never understood the lack of
19:46
Speaker 2: investment in backup quarterbacks like go get your backup quarterback.
19:50
Speaker 2: There's nothing worse not only for a for a team
19:53
Speaker 2: in an organization, but an entire fan base to have
19:56
Speaker 2: to punt on a season when one guy gets hurt.
19:59
Speaker 2: And I know it's most important position in sports, but
20:01
Speaker 2: man sacrifice the sacrifice, the backup interior lineman. Take that
20:06
Speaker 2: budget money and dump it on trying to invest in
20:08
Speaker 2: somebody like a Gardner Minshew who it might be a
20:10
Speaker 2: roller coaster ride if Buck was kind of alluding to.
20:13
Speaker 2: But he gives you a chance at least at least
20:14
Speaker 2: there's a reason to turn the game on and know, like, hey,
20:16
Speaker 2: we might have a chance today. And so to me,
20:19
Speaker 2: I think that SATs off to Chris Ballard for making
20:22
Speaker 2: that investment. And unfortunately Anthon Richemon got hurt early. He
20:25
Speaker 2: needed he needed to catch in that insurance policy.
20:27
Speaker 3: Uh.
20:28
Speaker 2: But not only has he kept them in games like
20:30
Speaker 2: there you got a legit shot to make the postseason.
20:32
Speaker 2: And that's a that's a that's a credit to them.
20:35
Speaker 2: All Right, we're gonna take a quick break. When we
20:36
Speaker 2: come back, we'll get into what was the most anticipated game,
20:39
Speaker 2: if not the week, maybe the entire season here. Uh,
20:43
Speaker 2: that is the Eagles and the Niners will get to
20:45
Speaker 2: that rider for this. All right, guys, let's jump back
20:52
Speaker 2: in here. Niners absolutely hammer the Eagles. I mean just
20:58
Speaker 2: a butt kicking. And I I talked about it in
21:01
Speaker 2: the run of this game that I told you these
21:03
Speaker 2: teams do not like each other. This is the best
21:05
Speaker 2: rivalry in the NFL that nobody realizes how much this
21:09
Speaker 2: exists in terms of disdain. And I think after the game,
21:11
Speaker 2: I think people believe me. I think they might believe
21:13
Speaker 2: me that there's not a lot of love lost between
21:15
Speaker 2: these two teams. But the Niners, man, they talked all
21:18
Speaker 2: that noise after the season was over, like, hey, if
21:21
Speaker 2: rock Purdy had stayed healthy, well they got a little
21:23
Speaker 2: something to crow about, because Rock Purdy was healthy in
21:26
Speaker 2: this game, and they carved him up like a Thanksgiving turkey.
21:29
Speaker 2: I went back and watched this morning because I didn't
21:31
Speaker 2: to see this game on TV at all, So it
21:33
Speaker 2: was like I saw the score, I'm like, okay, what happened?
21:36
Speaker 2: So I put on San fran offense and guys the
21:40
Speaker 2: first quarter. The first quarter though, I'm like, they didn't
21:43
Speaker 2: do anything. I'm like, wait, how did the heck did
21:45
Speaker 2: they think of defensive touchdowns, like how did this get
21:48
Speaker 2: out of hand? And then all of a sudden the
21:50
Speaker 2: second quarter started, and it was the key play, by
21:54
Speaker 2: the way, the key play. And I don't know what
21:55
Speaker 2: people have been saying on TV about this game, but
21:57
Speaker 2: going through and watching it, I'm like, okay, that they
22:00
Speaker 2: get down. I think they're up. It's maybe six nothing,
22:04
Speaker 2: and then san Fran drives, they get a third down
22:08
Speaker 2: at like the you know six or whatever, a third
22:11
Speaker 2: and goal with the six, and the Eagles get a
22:14
Speaker 2: stop and I'm like, okay, so it's going to be
22:15
Speaker 2: six to three. Eagles still kind of in control. They're
22:18
Speaker 2: off sides half the distance to the goal. That I
22:21
Speaker 2: don't know if people have been talking about that in
22:23
Speaker 2: this game. That was huge. The next play they get
22:26
Speaker 2: the touchdown back of the end zone to Ayuk and
22:28
Speaker 2: then they never looked back that that little penalty, which
22:31
Speaker 2: you would think is a two yard penalty right half
22:33
Speaker 2: the disn't to the goal from where they were changed it.
22:36
Speaker 2: They kind of changed the game around. They get the
22:38
Speaker 2: lead and then, as we've said, once they get the lead,
22:41
Speaker 2: oh my gosh, buck you talk about putting the linebackers
22:43
Speaker 2: in a blender when you go watch that tape from
22:46
Speaker 2: quarters two through four, they didn't they couldn't be right.
22:49
Speaker 2: Wherever they guessed, they were wrong. They were getting downhill
22:52
Speaker 2: coming behind them, they'd get widened out and then they're
22:54
Speaker 2: crossing their face. Then you get McCaffrey who's hitting stutter
22:58
Speaker 2: gos like in a slot. This is this was like,
23:02
Speaker 2: this was like watching Kyle Shanahan and Brock Purty like
23:05
Speaker 2: just like a little little just playing a little like
23:07
Speaker 2: watching a cat just trying to like swing the ball.
23:09
Speaker 2: Like it was like, it was unbelievable the way they
23:11
Speaker 2: told them. And Brock party for you know, any questions
23:15
Speaker 2: about him at all, he is perfect for this offense.
23:19
Speaker 2: He is perfect and he's he was able to see
23:22
Speaker 2: the field throw the ball accurately. And again it was surgery.
23:26
Speaker 2: It was surgical what they did.
23:28
Speaker 3: Yeah, it was unbelievable to watch. Right. So this game
23:30
Speaker 3: the way it started, the Field of Eagles played the game,
23:33
Speaker 3: in my mind, the right way. At the beginning, they
23:35
Speaker 3: had two twelve play drives. The issue with that is
23:39
Speaker 3: they only got a stickpoint. Yeah, and so they drove
23:42
Speaker 3: the ball to lift the field. They played keep away.
23:44
Speaker 3: They understand. I think they understand that their defense is
23:47
Speaker 3: not necessarily an elite defense that shuts you out. It's
23:50
Speaker 3: an elite complimentary defense, meaning they control it. On offense,
23:54
Speaker 3: they get the lead, then they rushed the pass because
23:57
Speaker 3: they didn't get those seven. The Niners were able to
24:01
Speaker 3: stay in character. They never had to get out of
24:03
Speaker 3: character become a drop back team. And the one thing
24:05
Speaker 3: that I will say about the Niners in Shanahan in
24:08
Speaker 3: the run game and the creativity, he did a great
24:10
Speaker 3: job of keeping everybody in the mix. But DJ, I've
24:14
Speaker 3: never seen an NFL team run in the rounds or
24:17
Speaker 3: reverses like their regular plays. It is almost like watching
24:20
Speaker 3: a Pop Warner team run the reverse and I'm like,
24:24
Speaker 3: man like, they just run this like a twenty eight
24:26
Speaker 3: tall suits.
24:27
Speaker 2: So they did. They did one thing on there, and
24:30
Speaker 2: I want to and maybe you jump in us two red,
24:33
Speaker 2: but buck the You know mirrored screens, right, we see that.
24:36
Speaker 2: You see it in high school football all the way
24:38
Speaker 2: college in the NFL. Where you've got a screen go
24:40
Speaker 2: onto both sides. It might be a back to the left,
24:42
Speaker 2: it might be a wide receiver screen to the right,
24:43
Speaker 2: and they'll split the line right so you have the
24:45
Speaker 2: right tackle on the right guard are going to go
24:47
Speaker 2: out there on this side, and you'll get the three
24:49
Speaker 2: on the left and go out this way. They run
24:51
Speaker 2: the mirroage screen, but all five linemen are going to
24:55
Speaker 2: the back. The one that I think that was, or
24:57
Speaker 2: was the Debo touchdown, I think was the d both
25:00
Speaker 2: touchdown like little top screen or whatever. All five linemen,
25:03
Speaker 2: I mean, they are on a dead sprint to the left,
25:05
Speaker 2: but they're still showing screen to the right, so they're
25:08
Speaker 2: able to hold just enough defenders. And it's you've got
25:11
Speaker 2: a math problem at that point in time, because they
25:13
Speaker 2: got freaking they got a receiver and now you've got
25:16
Speaker 2: five alignment on a dead sprint. It was the darnest
25:19
Speaker 2: thing I've ever seen.
25:22
Speaker 3: They just they're remarkable. I don't know if there's a
25:25
Speaker 3: better team where the personnel matches how they want to play.
25:29
Speaker 3: I mean, we could make the argument maybe Miami, but
25:31
Speaker 3: in terms of schematics and personnel, I don't know if
25:35
Speaker 3: there's a better blend than what they have. And cal
25:37
Speaker 3: Shanahan has exactly what he wants. He knows how to
25:39
Speaker 3: utilize the personnel. And we can all talk about Rock
25:42
Speaker 3: Berdy and a He's mister irrelevant and all that. In
25:44
Speaker 3: that system, that dude is an elite quarterback. I don't
25:48
Speaker 3: know what it looks like elsewhere. It doesn't matter what
25:50
Speaker 3: it looks like. I know for the Niners he is
25:52
Speaker 3: an a one quarterback and teams are going to have
25:54
Speaker 3: a tough time knocking off nine as long as he's there.
25:58
Speaker 1: To your point on that, talking about I think the debo,
26:01
Speaker 1: the first debo forty eight yard Ohky, and the third
26:06
Speaker 1: that to me was the dagger like you had just
26:08
Speaker 1: had all the hubbub with the security guy and with
26:11
Speaker 1: dream green Law. They both get ejected. The Eagles go
26:14
Speaker 1: down and Jalen Hurts scores on the one yard on
26:16
Speaker 1: the on the push right, and then you come back
26:19
Speaker 1: and the very next possession for the forty nine ers
26:22
Speaker 1: debo shows you that physicality that would make him a
26:25
Speaker 1: thousand yard running back, and then the speed and the
26:27
Speaker 1: separation that makes him a thousand yard receiver. That his
26:31
Speaker 1: skill set is still to me unlike any that we
26:35
Speaker 1: see from a full time wide receiver in football. The
26:38
Speaker 1: other thing that Bucky had challenged you and your broadcast
26:41
Speaker 1: partners to get into tonight the radio brought and I
26:45
Speaker 1: heard this for the first time.
26:46
Speaker 2: I don't know if they do it every time or.
26:47
Speaker 1: Not, but I was on my drive home the radio
26:50
Speaker 1: broadcasting for the Niners when Brandon ayuk score they both
26:54
Speaker 1: in unison go a yuk aiyuk i yu kizo.
27:00
Speaker 2: I was like, oh, little cheesy, but uh, you know what, that's.
27:04
Speaker 1: Why we love local radio, man, because I'm sure that
27:07
Speaker 1: forty nine Ers fans really got into it.
27:09
Speaker 2: And so there you go. I challenge you to do something.
27:13
Speaker 3: I read I would officially let my fan boy come
27:16
Speaker 3: out somehow tonight if I don't get together with with
27:20
Speaker 3: Jeff Loghman and Tony Boselli, Yeah, and see if we
27:24
Speaker 3: can get together and pick a player, whether that's Trevor
27:26
Speaker 3: or somebody else to really get behind. And yeah, they
27:29
Speaker 3: have a unified course on that so that when that
27:32
Speaker 3: broadcast call goes live in national everyone can Yeah, the
27:36
Speaker 3: exactly what they got to get.
27:38
Speaker 2: I think money would appreciate that too. DJ just I
27:42
Speaker 2: was by the way, I was all cued up. They
27:44
Speaker 2: didn't score touchdown, they didn't need one. They charger and
27:46
Speaker 2: only scored six points, but it was enough to win.
27:48
Speaker 2: But I'm telling you, it's pouring rain you're ready. It's
27:51
Speaker 2: the first It's the first rain game for the Chargers
27:53
Speaker 2: since twenty seventeen. Think about that. How crazy is that
27:56
Speaker 2: they haven't played in a rain game like where it
27:58
Speaker 2: starts the game with six years twenty seventeen. So I'm like, oh,
28:03
Speaker 2: I'm already. I'm already because I love just like needling money,
28:06
Speaker 2: and I was going to be like, dude, hey, you
28:07
Speaker 2: get the long touchdown, you gotta go Herbert like a
28:10
Speaker 2: duck in water bam, and then uh never, he didn't
28:14
Speaker 2: need it, didn't need a touchdown, So no need for
28:17
Speaker 2: that line. But it was cute. Up. I was ready
28:19
Speaker 2: to go on that one. But keep us rolling here,
28:24
Speaker 2: Rams and browns Ramsom.
28:27
Speaker 3: Brown had to tune in to watch the Joe Flacco
28:29
Speaker 3: Show see what Joe Flacco was going to look like.
28:31
Speaker 3: I want to see if Joe Flacco was going to
28:33
Speaker 3: look like me coming off the couch trying to play
28:35
Speaker 3: pick up basketball. After my surprise, Joe Flacco looked good
28:39
Speaker 3: for about three quarters of the game, Like I was like, man,
28:43
Speaker 3: can you be in a quarterback and continue to throw it?
28:46
Speaker 2: Like?
28:46
Speaker 3: I mean, he was. He was on fire. He was
28:48
Speaker 3: dropping dives. He and Elijah Moore had a nice connection.
28:52
Speaker 3: They were doing it. But then, like most of us
28:55
Speaker 3: as we get older, playing pickup that last game, like
28:58
Speaker 3: getting the point see a little tougher, and it was
29:02
Speaker 3: a little tougher for Joe to bring it in. That said,
29:06
Speaker 3: here's what I'll say about the Rams. Jommy Brady's done
29:08
Speaker 3: a really good job with this team. This team is
29:11
Speaker 3: very scrappy. It is competitive. They knock off all the
29:13
Speaker 3: teams that they are supposed to be. They're really competitive
29:16
Speaker 3: against the teams that might be at their level or
29:18
Speaker 3: slightly above it. And he has been able to get
29:20
Speaker 3: Matthew Stafford in the running game to do just enough.
29:23
Speaker 3: My guy Pooka had a seven yard touchdown, but then
29:26
Speaker 3: he heard his shoulder. Man, he was on his way
29:28
Speaker 3: to a big day. I mean he was on his
29:30
Speaker 3: way to really set it up. He had over a
29:32
Speaker 3: hundred yards. You can just see it, like all the
29:35
Speaker 3: fantasy people are just clamoring for the big day that
29:38
Speaker 3: he was at that he tried. Oh my god, yeah
29:43
Speaker 3: so but no, it was. It was a really good
29:45
Speaker 3: performance for the Rams. I don't know what they can do,
29:47
Speaker 3: but I do know they're setting nice building blocks for
29:51
Speaker 3: the rebuilding project that will be next year when they
29:54
Speaker 3: get some more pieces around all the players that they're
29:56
Speaker 3: already have in the fall.
29:59
Speaker 2: Yeah, I would agree a go ahead, Red. Yeah.
30:03
Speaker 1: I just feel like, again we kind of asked this
30:04
Speaker 1: on the video show, like two out of the last
30:06
Speaker 1: three weeks, like who do you trust in that wildcard
30:08
Speaker 1: race in the NFC, And it's the way that Matthew
30:11
Speaker 1: Stafford's playing, the way that that offensive staff that Sean
30:14
Speaker 1: McVay has put together is getting the most out of all.
30:16
Speaker 2: They're kind of young, and obviously the Vet Cooper cup weapons.
30:19
Speaker 1: DeMarcus Robinson comes in four catches fifty five yards in
30:23
Speaker 1: a touchdown, although he had the holding call that negated
30:25
Speaker 1: a forty five yard run by.
30:27
Speaker 2: Puka which would have added to your totals.
30:29
Speaker 1: But Michael Floor I think was a big addition for
30:31
Speaker 1: the Rams offense too, And just they understand what they
30:34
Speaker 1: want to accomplish together, I think, and we talk about
30:36
Speaker 1: that with identity and it feels like the Rams know
30:38
Speaker 1: what they want to do.
30:39
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the Rams done a nice job. Now
30:41
Speaker 2: we having all these young rookies and you know, young
30:44
Speaker 2: players that are playing well, but they've done a nice
30:46
Speaker 2: job selectively bringing veterans into each room. You know, have
30:49
Speaker 2: one veteran in each position room that can kind of
30:51
Speaker 2: guide these young guys as they go forward. I think
30:53
Speaker 2: it's very it's very smart how Lessoned's gone about putting
30:56
Speaker 2: this roster together. Rhtt You've got alliance and sints. Please
31:00
Speaker 2: just go as long as you want on this one.
31:02
Speaker 2: I can't wait for all about this. Well, I thought
31:05
Speaker 2: it was over in the first five minutes.
31:07
Speaker 1: I mean the Lions were up twenty one to nothing,
31:08
Speaker 1: and it was like, you know, it was like the
31:10
Speaker 1: Jonathan Gannon thing again.
31:12
Speaker 2: It was like peo peo peop. I mean, like Jared
31:14
Speaker 2: Goff was all over the place.
31:16
Speaker 1: Just and then you know, Jamior Gibbs had an explosive
31:19
Speaker 1: David Montgomery punches it in.
31:21
Speaker 2: You're like, holy smokes. Before the Saints even turn around.
31:23
Speaker 1: The Saints had three offensive or four offensive plays in total,
31:28
Speaker 1: and the Lions had three offensive touchdowns, so almost as
31:31
Speaker 1: many touchdowns as offensive plays at one point in this
31:33
Speaker 1: game when they were up twenty one nothing.
31:35
Speaker 2: The thing that I went back.
31:36
Speaker 1: And looked at, though, where Golf and the Lions really
31:39
Speaker 1: found success. All but one of Goff's downfield passes like
31:43
Speaker 1: at least just be on the line of scrimmage, were
31:46
Speaker 1: in between the numbers. They were focused on hitting in
31:49
Speaker 1: breaking routes and on attacking the Saints in the in
31:52
Speaker 1: the interior, in the middle of the field.
31:55
Speaker 2: And I know they.
31:55
Speaker 1: Saw a fair amount of cover one here in this game,
31:57
Speaker 1: but I thought Samuel Porta was a matchup night. Now,
32:00
Speaker 1: obviously nine catches on ten targets. I think the Saints
32:03
Speaker 1: really missed Pete Werner in this Game's got some speed
32:05
Speaker 1: at that second level and just didn't feel like they
32:07
Speaker 1: had it. I think Laporta got through Zach Vaughn a
32:09
Speaker 1: couple of times and just nobody, nobody had the proper
32:15
Speaker 1: way to defend Sam Laporta in this game. So I
32:17
Speaker 1: thought he has emerged as one of the top tight
32:20
Speaker 1: ends in football, not just rookies on and the Lions
32:23
Speaker 1: have a real weapon right there. Young team, young young players,
32:27
Speaker 1: good vets, really good mix.
32:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, I watched the Laporta targets this morning because I
32:31
Speaker 2: want to see how I see a huge day, So like,
32:33
Speaker 2: what are they doing? It was a mixture. I mean
32:35
Speaker 2: they turned him loose a couple of times, where just
32:37
Speaker 2: design wise they were able to get him freed up
32:39
Speaker 2: for some big chunk plays. But then also Buck, We've
32:43
Speaker 2: talked about this a bunch with you know, maybe the
32:46
Speaker 2: best innovation this year in the NFL has been that
32:49
Speaker 2: Tyreek Hill motion to the to run bigs with that.
32:52
Speaker 2: Every everything our whole life has been When you're motioning
32:55
Speaker 2: that fast to the outside, everything is going away. You're
32:58
Speaker 2: gonna get in the flat, you're gonna run a corner,
33:00
Speaker 2: you can maybe push up and running. Now it's that's
33:02
Speaker 2: the end cut. That's like the that's like the rout
33:05
Speaker 2: of the year that you're seeing teams do that hit
33:06
Speaker 2: that on a dead freaking run, and now they're doing
33:08
Speaker 2: it actually with tight end and La Florida.
33:10
Speaker 3: Yeah, because it goes against everything that you want to
33:13
Speaker 3: do as a defender. So you're running outside to the sideline.
33:16
Speaker 3: My hips are towards the sideline. Now I got to
33:19
Speaker 3: get in the back. I got to flip. And then
33:20
Speaker 3: when you cut it on the speed cut going back inside, Man,
33:24
Speaker 3: I can't head whip or spin around centerfield road turn
33:27
Speaker 3: to stay on top of it. You're putting me at
33:29
Speaker 3: a disadvantage. And it's one of the things that you
33:31
Speaker 3: want to like, well, why do you take the league
33:32
Speaker 3: so longer? And I know in the CFL and the
33:37
Speaker 3: Arena ball they've been doing those kinds of things forever,
33:39
Speaker 3: but man, it does put you in the back. It
33:41
Speaker 3: also it messes up all the rules that defensive backs
33:45
Speaker 3: and secondaries have had for years in terms of how
33:48
Speaker 3: to play in motion, how you want to banjo or
33:50
Speaker 3: switch or whatever. You never had to discuss. Well, we
33:53
Speaker 3: start here and it goes out like how we're going
33:56
Speaker 3: to play all these things? And so it was the
33:58
Speaker 3: first Yeah, I understand one step ahead of the posse.
34:01
Speaker 3: And I would say this about the Lions. They're young guys,
34:05
Speaker 3: they're explosive playmakers. I saw a report come out they
34:07
Speaker 3: were saying that all of a sudden, Jerry Golf now
34:09
Speaker 3: has to reprove that he is the guy. Man, if
34:12
Speaker 3: you don't like Jerry golf last few years, what he's
34:16
Speaker 3: done in Detroit, and you just are never going to
34:17
Speaker 3: like him. To me, he is a perfect point guard
34:20
Speaker 3: for what this offense is and what it will continue
34:22
Speaker 3: to be. No, he's not a guy that can drop
34:25
Speaker 3: back fifty times and just do traditional stuff. You've got
34:28
Speaker 3: the run game. It helps him, but He's another high
34:30
Speaker 3: end quarterback and it's hard to find quarterbacks in this league.
34:33
Speaker 3: I think the Detroit lines team to make sure that
34:34
Speaker 3: they keep him and keep him in the fall because
34:36
Speaker 3: he is going to keep them in the mix for
34:38
Speaker 3: the next few years.
34:40
Speaker 2: Anything on the other side Saints wise, ruh, I just think.
34:45
Speaker 1: You know, Derek Carr, I mean, I've never seen a
34:47
Speaker 1: quarterback leave the game with three separate injury designations concussion.
34:52
Speaker 2: Protocol, back shoulder.
34:53
Speaker 1: I was like, oh boy, I mean this kind of
34:56
Speaker 1: describes where the Saints are in their quarterback journey right now.
35:00
Speaker 2: Allen.
35:00
Speaker 1: Look, you know, Derek have like fourteen straight completions in
35:04
Speaker 1: this game before he gets hurt. You know, the interception
35:08
Speaker 1: went right through the hands of Juwan Johnson. Like when
35:10
Speaker 1: he's on, they're not helping him when he's off. Uh,
35:13
Speaker 1: you know, it's it's trouble Like they just man, that's
35:16
Speaker 1: a that is a tough That is a tough one.
35:19
Speaker 1: Credit printing them for making a ball game of it.
35:21
Speaker 1: But I don't know that there's a lot to really
35:23
Speaker 1: like moving forward.
35:24
Speaker 3: No, but I will say this, I think the Saints
35:27
Speaker 3: are had their best when they do the two headed
35:28
Speaker 3: monster with Jamis went Saysom Hill Like. I know people
35:32
Speaker 3: don't want to put it, but the combination of James,
35:34
Speaker 3: because Jamis pushes the ball down the field and Taysom
35:37
Speaker 3: Hill is still a dominant running runner at the position,
35:41
Speaker 3: they should just go all in on that. That gives
35:43
Speaker 3: them their bess, their offense moves, it has a different
35:46
Speaker 3: flow and feel to it. I know Dennis Allen is
35:50
Speaker 3: like deeply entrenched in the Derek Carr thing, but if
35:54
Speaker 3: he wants to win, Winston and Hill should be the quarterbacks.
35:57
Speaker 3: They should be co number one, or at the very.
35:59
Speaker 2: Least, more Taysom with Derek, Like at the very least. Yeah,
36:05
Speaker 2: I think it's I think it's probably a pretty realistic
36:08
Speaker 2: possibility we see more Tasom no matter who he's out
36:10
Speaker 2: there with, I would imagine we're going to see more
36:12
Speaker 2: and more of him. All Right, we got a couple
36:14
Speaker 2: more to go here. Texans Broncos. Texans hold on. They
36:17
Speaker 2: get a stop late, which is something teams haven't been
36:20
Speaker 2: able to do against the Broncos for over a month,
36:22
Speaker 2: is get that key stop when you need it. They
36:24
Speaker 2: were able to do that game again where I didn't
36:27
Speaker 2: see the game, so I'm looking at the box score,
36:30
Speaker 2: which is going to tell me what I want to study,
36:32
Speaker 2: like what aspect of the game, and the thing that
36:33
Speaker 2: jumped out, I'm like, oh my gosh. When you look
36:36
Speaker 2: at Nico Collins going nine for a buck ninety one
36:38
Speaker 2: in a box score, I'm like, Holy moly, what is
36:40
Speaker 2: going on here? So watch those cutups. The first one
36:43
Speaker 2: is just a home run ball. I mean it just
36:45
Speaker 2: wins right off the release, right off the line scrimmage
36:48
Speaker 2: and goes. And then after that was a variety of things.
36:50
Speaker 2: And as a big receiver, I don't know. Maybe it
36:52
Speaker 2: was because I saw this jersey in New England yesterday,
36:55
Speaker 2: but I saw Josh Gordon jersey, and for some reason,
36:58
Speaker 2: Josh Gordon was kind of in the back of my head.
37:00
Speaker 2: And I don't think Niko is quite as athletic as
37:02
Speaker 2: Josh warr is freaking, but just in that body type
37:06
Speaker 2: that is a power forward body that can still really
37:09
Speaker 2: move and you know, you can go like Brandon Marshall
37:11
Speaker 2: like type of guys that have those big frames that
37:14
Speaker 2: can that can move like that. It's there's not a
37:16
Speaker 2: lot of them. It's a pretty unique skill set in
37:19
Speaker 2: that in that size. I hate to see Tank Dell
37:21
Speaker 2: go down. I think it's gonna it's gonna lead to
37:23
Speaker 2: an interesting debate and discussion because all year long we've
37:27
Speaker 2: talked about, look, hey, you're don't have to change all
37:29
Speaker 2: these these smaller receivers are having success, and then you
37:33
Speaker 2: hate to see him go down. But then the other
37:34
Speaker 2: people on the other side of the argument are, go,
37:36
Speaker 2: that's our concern with the smaller receivers. It's just going
37:39
Speaker 2: to be hard to keep these guys and run them
37:40
Speaker 2: out there. Seventeen weeks Buck.
37:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so crazy because he's just in a pile
37:44
Speaker 3: like they're won the football, like he's not even.
37:46
Speaker 2: Like, yeah, it.
37:49
Speaker 3: Just happens to be in the mix or whatever. I'll
37:52
Speaker 3: say this about the tackling man to be Coaans has
37:56
Speaker 3: coming there and really energize this team, Like defancy, they
37:59
Speaker 3: do a really good job. But can they got players?
38:00
Speaker 3: You so Dereck s meaning to get another interception? He
38:02
Speaker 3: has like ye too, I think he has four over
38:06
Speaker 3: the past three weeks. He's kind of in the mix
38:08
Speaker 3: after coming off being injured. This team plays really well
38:13
Speaker 3: and c J. Stroud has a little spunk got into
38:16
Speaker 3: it with Alex Singleton, Alex Singintson kind of pushed him
38:18
Speaker 3: and mutched them and CJ kind of bowed back. And
38:21
Speaker 3: you can always tell if your quarterback is well liked
38:23
Speaker 3: because when they get engaged in those moments, you get
38:26
Speaker 3: to see if the cavary comes running. DJ. I've never
38:29
Speaker 3: seen more Texans on the field like ready to surround
38:32
Speaker 3: Alex Singleton in my life. I mean it was like,
38:35
Speaker 3: oh no, not a one. So it was you know,
38:39
Speaker 3: you talk about like someone really earning his stripes and
38:42
Speaker 3: the leadership stuff or whatever, like he's been great, like
38:44
Speaker 3: all this throwing stuff or whatever, but the leadership and
38:47
Speaker 3: the poise that he is displayed as the leader of
38:50
Speaker 3: the Texans has really ingratiated himself his teammates, and man,
38:53
Speaker 3: this team is gonna be there for a while. I mean,
38:56
Speaker 3: look all the twist and turns after Deshaun watson saga,
39:00
Speaker 3: and they got it right. They're in a better position
39:02
Speaker 3: now than they were when they started a couple of
39:04
Speaker 3: years ago, like half off again.
39:05
Speaker 2: Oh man, they're a great spot, dream spot. Everybody jealous
39:08
Speaker 2: of where they are right now.
39:09
Speaker 3: Also, in all the conversation about Will Anderson not being yeah,
39:14
Speaker 3: I think I think we can put that the bid.
39:17
Speaker 1: Yeah, pressures in this scheme, Like I mean, but Russell
39:21
Speaker 1: Wilson had a little bit of Will Anderson's jersey on
39:25
Speaker 1: his back in this one.
39:26
Speaker 2: I mean it was.
39:27
Speaker 1: Will Anderson is just as much of a dog on
39:29
Speaker 1: the other side as I think that they're getting with
39:32
Speaker 1: the quarterback on the offensive side.
39:34
Speaker 2: Yeah, Will Anderson over Tyree Wilson. Uh, smart move. He's
39:38
Speaker 2: got five sacks now and again, a whole bunch of
39:41
Speaker 2: pressures and he plays like almost every snap like Max
39:44
Speaker 2: Crosby does. Yeah, he's he's Award Daddy. So yeah, they're
39:47
Speaker 2: in great shape there. The Broncos again, they've been on
39:50
Speaker 2: a nice little run. Couldn't quite get to play there
39:52
Speaker 2: at the end defensively though, still still getting after the quarterback.
39:56
Speaker 2: They did about as well against Stroudish as anybody has,
39:59
Speaker 2: as hot as out has been, as craz as he's played.
40:01
Speaker 2: So uh, still a lot to play for there for
40:04
Speaker 2: the Denver Broncos. Last one buck the Dolphins. I mean,
40:10
Speaker 2: are we calling this a game? Are we referring to
40:12
Speaker 2: this as a game football?
40:15
Speaker 3: The reason why we're bringing this up because we have
40:18
Speaker 3: to have a discussion about Tyreek Kill.
40:19
Speaker 2: Being the MVP of the league.
40:21
Speaker 3: All right, so we have to have a discussion because
40:23
Speaker 3: he's on pace to break two thousand yards. DJ, I've
40:28
Speaker 3: never seen it. We've talked about this, We've talked about
40:30
Speaker 3: it in box and whatever, like, hey man, don't get
40:33
Speaker 3: knocked out with the right hand, DJ. Everyone knows when
40:37
Speaker 3: you deal with the Miami Dolphins, number ten can go deep.
40:41
Speaker 3: But DJ, I've never seen more deep balls. I'm like,
40:44
Speaker 3: do we not note that he is going deep in
40:47
Speaker 3: like every week? I'm like, it has to be on
40:50
Speaker 3: the scouting report. Who is given the advanced scouting report
40:52
Speaker 3: like to get deep and twice deep ball? And I
41:00
Speaker 3: mean they're not even close one on one situation. They
41:03
Speaker 3: go andy, hit a flop like just boom, hey man,
41:06
Speaker 3: back up, back up, get ten yards deep. But don't
41:09
Speaker 3: allow number ten to run past you. And I I
41:13
Speaker 3: just don't know. I don't know how how you how
41:16
Speaker 3: you can keep it from him. Everyone knows what he's
41:18
Speaker 3: doing and he still be sure. At some point you
41:20
Speaker 3: gotta knowledge.
41:21
Speaker 2: His great I'll say this real quick, gret In the
41:24
Speaker 2: only golf reference I'll make for the entire year. As
41:27
Speaker 2: you guys know, I got into golf a little bit
41:28
Speaker 2: over the last couple of years, and I will I'm
41:32
Speaker 2: not any good, but I'll watch a I'll watch an
41:34
Speaker 2: Instagram video and be like, if I just changed how
41:37
Speaker 2: I got my hands in my backswing, it's gonna work.
41:40
Speaker 2: It's gonna work. And then I get out to the
41:41
Speaker 2: golf course and I try it and it doesn't work.
41:43
Speaker 2: And I just imagine defensive coordinators going to that week
41:46
Speaker 2: they must convince themselves nobody's done this against Tyreek Hill,
41:50
Speaker 2: this is gonna work. And they try something different, and
41:53
Speaker 2: guess what, it doesn't work. Look, let me let me
41:57
Speaker 2: ask you guys, this the anonomy of these decisions, because
42:01
Speaker 2: I think we all.
42:02
Speaker 1: Kind of we all kind of understand. Look, Ron Rivera
42:04
Speaker 1: runs personnel there, he's got final say on all that, right.
42:07
Speaker 1: I think we all saw that in the draft room
42:09
Speaker 1: and he obviously takes, you know, all the evaluation and suggestions.
42:13
Speaker 2: From the staff there. But if you're in a situation.
42:16
Speaker 1: Where you've got a new owner coming in and wins
42:19
Speaker 1: are at a premium, right because you've got to impress,
42:24
Speaker 1: why do you why would you move why would you
42:27
Speaker 1: ship the two best players on your defense away?
42:32
Speaker 3: I don't know.
42:33
Speaker 1: I just like I get unless you've been given assurances that, hey,
42:37
Speaker 1: we're going to do this for the future.
42:38
Speaker 2: But I got to be a part of the plan.
42:40
Speaker 1: For that future, like that's the only way otherwise, No,
42:43
Speaker 1: I am keeping everything. I have to give myself the
42:46
Speaker 1: best possible chance to win with the team that I
42:49
Speaker 1: have assembled, so that I can point to this and say, guys, look,
42:52
Speaker 1: we have found a way to win here. We just
42:55
Speaker 1: need a few more pieces and we'll get it done.
42:57
Speaker 1: I just don't know how planning for the future helps,
42:59
Speaker 1: you know, you would think a staff, you know, both
43:02
Speaker 1: on the evaluation side on the coaching side, that is
43:05
Speaker 1: essentially you know, coaching for their jobs this year.
43:09
Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't get all that part with
43:10
Speaker 2: the command hips. Can I give you the one think
43:13
Speaker 2: piece that I guarantee you will be written in the
43:16
Speaker 2: next week or two. Yeah, one hundred percent. You could
43:19
Speaker 2: take it to the bank. Somebody's going to do the
43:21
Speaker 2: research and somebody's going to look at what it would
43:24
Speaker 2: have cost Kansas City to keep Tyreek Hill and other
43:29
Speaker 2: options they could have had in terms of maybe it
43:31
Speaker 2: would have cost him, you know, maybe it was Kelsey,
43:33
Speaker 2: maybe it would have cost him some of these young
43:35
Speaker 2: defensive players. Obviously the draft pick compensation that they got back,
43:38
Speaker 2: maybe the defense isn't quite as good. All I know
43:41
Speaker 2: is it's hard to look at him and what he's
43:43
Speaker 2: doing there and then see Kansas City and their struggles.
43:47
Speaker 2: And mind you, Kansas City won a super Bowl after
43:48
Speaker 2: he left, so it's not like they haven't had success.
43:51
Speaker 2: But when you were watching that offense with him in it,
43:55
Speaker 2: it wasn't it wasn't like are they going to win
43:58
Speaker 2: one or two or three super Bowls? It was like,
44:00
Speaker 2: are these guys going to do something that's never been
44:02
Speaker 2: done before and win like seven eight super Bowls with
44:05
Speaker 2: this combination? Like? Was there another way? Is what I'm
44:08
Speaker 2: getting at, somebody's gonna write that thing.
44:10
Speaker 3: Well, somebody, somebody is going to write it. And DJ.
44:13
Speaker 3: The thing that undermines us alid is eg like like
44:16
Speaker 3: and and one of the things that you worry about.
44:19
Speaker 3: And I talked about this when he was traded for
44:22
Speaker 3: Andy Reid because they've had so much effense going all
44:24
Speaker 3: the way back in Green Bay. In terms of developing
44:27
Speaker 3: wide receivers. Remember Tyreek Hill comes in as a fifth
44:30
Speaker 3: round pick like a character played a partner.
44:33
Speaker 2: Yeah, he wasn't a fifth round player.
44:34
Speaker 4: I remember they use him as a punp returner.
44:39
Speaker 3: They use him as a gadget guy. And when they
44:41
Speaker 3: made him wide receiver one, that was before anybody thought
44:45
Speaker 3: he could run route and those things. And so sometimes
44:48
Speaker 3: what happens is you see that, hey, I was able
44:50
Speaker 3: to do this, you begin to think it's the system,
44:53
Speaker 3: not the player. I think they now probably have a
44:56
Speaker 3: greater appreciation for Tyreek Hill as the player and if
44:59
Speaker 3: they could bring that back. Oh, I'm sure they bring
45:01
Speaker 3: that back, because the offense is a lot different with
45:04
Speaker 3: Tyreek Hill in it than it is without.
45:08
Speaker 2: And you don't find another one. He's one on one.
45:10
Speaker 2: I mean you literally had you had a one of
45:12
Speaker 2: one quarterback, a one of one tight end, and a
45:15
Speaker 2: one on one wide receiver like they were they were.
45:17
Speaker 4: That was what was so nuts, Yeah, because you were
45:21
Speaker 4: guaranteed he at thirty points. So no matter what, if
45:24
Speaker 4: he's there, you're guaranteed to put up thirty. So now
45:26
Speaker 4: you're just trying to figure out, how do we play
45:28
Speaker 4: defense with a with a thirty spot Like you don't
45:31
Speaker 4: have to hold him a seventeen.
45:32
Speaker 3: We can give him twenty two. It still win.
45:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, and also remember though the thought, Remember the thought.
45:38
Speaker 2: The thought was though that Okay, now teams have put
45:40
Speaker 2: the safeties in the parking lot, and now you're they're
45:43
Speaker 2: going to force you. They're going to take away the
45:44
Speaker 2: big plays. Well, now with Miami even putting the safeties
45:47
Speaker 2: in the parking lot, he's running uh past them. I mean,
45:50
Speaker 2: I don't know how. It doesn't matter. Yeah, you could
45:53
Speaker 2: throw him, hit him in cut, let him split them
45:55
Speaker 2: like he they It hasn't worked. And uh anyways again
45:59
Speaker 2: and they've done a great can see Super Bowl Champs
46:01
Speaker 2: without Tyreek Hill. I don't take that away from I
46:03
Speaker 2: just think, man, this could have been a historic offense
46:07
Speaker 2: and team run that they could have been on. And
46:08
Speaker 2: we'll see if they can get the ship right here
46:11
Speaker 2: and make some additions in the offseason. All right, guys,
46:14
Speaker 2: this is a fun one. I appreciate you guys being
46:16
Speaker 2: flexible as we're all kind of in different states making
46:19
Speaker 2: this thing work. But we got her done and we'll
46:22
Speaker 2: be back tomorrow. Apologies to Florida State fans, Hey go
46:26
Speaker 2: get them, go get the Bulldogs, go get them. Show
46:28
Speaker 2: us what you got here. We'll see that's gonna do
46:32
Speaker 2: it for us. We'll see you next time. Right here,
46:33
Speaker 2: I'll move the sticks
