- 1:41SPEAKER_02: And my partner in crime as always, Coach George Hoanitz, defensive back, Valley View Grad, NEPA Sports Hall of Fame, and the head coach at Honesdale.
- 1:50SPEAKER_02: Former players, now both coaches, on the same side of the microphone.
- 1:54SPEAKER_02: Coach Hoannets, it's been a week.
- 1:55SPEAKER_02: How are you, sir?
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Coach Lamaya, awesome, buddy.
- 1:58SPEAKER_01: We were just talking about you got a big game tomorrow night on a Thursday, and uh we got some big heavyweight fights, I think, this weekend with uh with some of these games coming up.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: So it's exciting, right?
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: We were just I was talking to uh Brad, our our backstage uh guy a little bit before.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: We're just talking about what a what a season this is with all the kind of the twists and turns.
- 2:20SPEAKER_01: You're not sure still at walking into week seven, like who's the uh pretenders and who's the the championship caliber teams yet, except for uh probably a handful.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: So it's gonna be an interesting last four weeks of the season here.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: High school football in Northeast PA has been exciting and it's heating up, as you're mentioning, and there's a lot still to be solved.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: Can't wait to dive into that tonight.
- 2:41SPEAKER_02: But before we keep rolling, a word about the partners who make this show possible.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: Tonight's show partner, Spotlight.
- 2:48SPEAKER_02: Uh, a little bit of a tag team here.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Kleinbauer Mechanical and Envy Electrical have been with sports wire from the start.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: Kleinbauer keeps homes warm with top-notch boiler and heating service, and MV Electrical powers them safely with expert panel upgrades, wiring, and generator installs across Northeastern PA.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: Thanks for keeping us wired in.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: A big thanks to Kleinbauer Mechanical and Envy Electrical for supporting what we are building here at SportsWire.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: And now, Coach Hoanitz, we are gonna get to the Athlete of the Week.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: We are back to a football player being honored by Athlete of the Week here, powered by Hydro Bats.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: And this week, because every great performance earns a great recovery, it goes to Holy Redeemers, Brady McDermott, who piled up 320 total yards and four touchdowns through the air and on the ground, leading the Royals past Holy Cross 39 to 14.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: And that's a Holy Cross team that had a you know a win streak going in there, was figuring things out.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: But uh Brady McDermott, coach, what do you think of that performance?
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: He's been great for them, and we've talked about him, I think, for the first uh five weeks and now into week six.
- 3:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's he's a big playmaker for them, and uh, you know, obviously he's definitely their best player.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: He's he's all over the place, throwing the ball, running the ball.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: He's really a true dual threat quarterback in District 2.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, he's shown up every week.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: We've we've always mentioned him.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: He's always two touchdowns, three touchdowns, uh that last week four, and he's always usually up above 200 yards passing and right around 100 rushing.
- 4:20SPEAKER_01: So he's been uh every bit as advertised, and uh he's doing a great job there for Holy Redeemer.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: That's a good scouting report there, and you know, 320 total yards.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: Brady, I might have to get you on my fantasy football podcast with those kind of stats because that's a big time performance there.
- 4:37SPEAKER_02: So congrats again, Brady McDermott this week's athlete of the week powered by Hydrobats.
- 4:44SPEAKER_02: Now, coach, as we look back at week six, recap some games, kick us off here as a big one for your Hornet Hornets, routed Western Wayne 52 to 7 to move to five and win five and one, stay a big school top five team.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: And now the rewards are trip to my undefeated Lakeland Chiefs.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: That that helmet's shining there, but we're gonna talk about that later.
- 5:08SPEAKER_02: But uh, your Hornets are positioned in a really good place.
- 5:10SPEAKER_02: Talk us through what happened last weekend.
- 5:12SPEAKER_01: Well, we uh it was a homecoming game for us, and I thought our kids uh we're really starting to click, I think, offensively.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: And and you know, uh, you know, being an offensive guy, when you get especially running the wing T.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Uh last year we were very one-dimensional.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: I think our kids were getting used to the system, and now we're really we're doing a nice job of throwing the ball a little more.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Uh, we're getting two and three backs a night uh you know, into the mix.
- 5:36SPEAKER_01: We we're running some option now.
- 5:38SPEAKER_01: So uh I think we're at a point now where it's uh you know, we're a little bit tougher to defend.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, do it is obviously our our guy we go to the most, but uh the last couple weeks, even um, you know, teams have tried to take him away, and our other kids have stepped up.
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: We've run some uh different aspects of the wing D, gotten away from uh Dude a little bit, and they've you know they've done a nice job.
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, anytime you can score 50 points in high school, I think you know, obviously you get a pretty good chance uh to win games.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: And our kids have been scoring up above uh 30 for the last really since our North Folk room game, which I think was a good eye opener uh for them, and they've done a nice job of moving the ball, putting points up, and just puts other offense in a buying, because now they're pressing to score points.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Now they're you know, you get turnovers, you're you're making teams do things they don't like to do, and uh you know, defensively we've done a nice job with that as well.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: Coach, you've talked a lot, and we've highlighted, you know, Gabe Duda, and you mentioned some other running backs get involved, and we we highlight a lot of great athletes on this show, but for them to be able to do what they do, talk a little bit about O-line play.
- 6:44SPEAKER_02: You know, we we talk about it being one in the trenches, you know, what's clicking for you there with the boys?
- 6:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think uh, like I said, the the wing T is really set up with angles and and being able to make certain blocks, and our kids have gotten really good at that.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, and obviously you spend a lot of time with it during the week, a lot of time in the offseason.
- 7:01SPEAKER_01: And you you really can tell, and you know this too.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: Any any team I think that's uh that's doing well, the offensive line has to play well.
- 7:08SPEAKER_01: You know, North Pocono's undefeated, their offensive line, I think, is really good.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Uh Prep's offensive line is is obviously really good with all the things they're doing with our playmakers.
- 7:18SPEAKER_01: Lakeland's line, the same thing.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: We're gonna see them this week.
- 7:20SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, they're they're pretty much plug and play.
- 7:23SPEAKER_01: I mean, they're just taking guys out of wherever, putting them in there, and they're you know, they're not uh really skipping a beat.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: So uh any of these teams, I think it always starts up front, and that's from uh pros all the way down to you know biddy football uh and the teams I think that are really stepping to the forefront.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Now the offensive lines are really the driving force behind that.
- 7:43SPEAKER_02: I wanted to make sure to give a shout out to the guys in the trenches there.
- 7:46SPEAKER_02: I know sometimes they they feel a little neglected, right?
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: We always talk about the statistics, but it doesn't happen if we can't block it up.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Those athletes up front, uh, you know, we always call them athletes when I was at Valley View, and uh, you know, they're they're they truly are able to do a lot more things than you think they can do.
- 8:02SPEAKER_01: People don't don't give them enough credit, and they're uh you know, they're a focal point of any offense and and even defensively, right?
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: You could say the same thing with a D-line on defense.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, if you have a good D-line, good O-line, you got a really good chance to win a lot of football games.
- 8:16SPEAKER_02: Most certainly.
- 8:17SPEAKER_02: Congrats on uh another big win there.
- 8:19SPEAKER_02: Your teams playing some good complimentary football, and um, some other teams playing good football.
- 8:24SPEAKER_02: Coach, still perfect.
- 8:26SPEAKER_02: Now four teams.
- 8:27SPEAKER_02: North Pocono beat Wilkes Berry, 44-7.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Dallas Hammers, Hazleton, 56-0.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: Dunmore crushed Mid Valley 56-0.
- 8:36SPEAKER_02: We got a couple of shutouts there.
- 8:37SPEAKER_02: Hopefully, those coaches are buying the kids donuts.
- 8:39SPEAKER_02: It's a little tradition we we have over there at Abington.
- 8:42SPEAKER_02: And Lakeland won the showdown at Riverside, knocking off an unbeaten there, 33-20.
- 8:47SPEAKER_02: That was definitely a big one there, handling the Vikings.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: Their first loss, taking control of the LFC Division II there.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: Coach, what do you think about those uh undefeated teams?
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Well, you're gonna start seeing uh now you start to see a lot of the those teams really getting into the heart of their schedule.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Uh so obviously, you know, we're gonna talk about it, but North Pocono's gonna play prep this week, so you're gonna get a uh five and one against a six-o, which will be a great matchup.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, we get Lakeland this week five and one, six and oh, another good matchup.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: Uh Dunmore will start getting into a little bit uh more of their scheduling coming up the next couple weeks.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Uh so you know, you're getting uh a lot of these teams now that are um Dallas, Dallas, I think Dallas will be undefeated.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: I don't see anybody on their schedule, uh the rest of their schedule beating them, so I think they'll be a 10-0 team.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: But um, you know, these teams are starting to, you know, you're you're gonna get into a little bit tougher part of the schedule.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: You'll get a little look.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: You've got to stay away from injuries.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Obviously, uh, you know, Jackson Potius from Lakeland getting an injury is gonna, you know, is not gonna help them at all.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, we wish him the best of luck moving forward.
- 9:54SPEAKER_01: I know he'll be fine.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: He's a tough kid, a great athlete, but he's a big part of that offense.
- 9:58SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, you see a lot of these teams now, they'll get some of those.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: And I don't think Cole West is gonna play this week again for North Poconot, which will be a big loss for them.
- 10:07SPEAKER_01: So all these little things come into play now.
- 10:08SPEAKER_01: I think if teams are all teams are healthy, I think a lot of these games maybe are uh go a different way, but uh we'll see coming up in these next couple weeks who can maneuver through and and manage some of these little uh you know, these injuries and things that take place and be able to stay undefeated.
- 10:25SPEAKER_02: Look forward to talking about them a little bit more when we get into our rankings, some statement games that we had this weekend.
- 10:32SPEAKER_02: Scranton prep shut out my comments 35 to 0.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: Wall and pop pack blanks West Scranton 34 to 0.
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: Honesdale rolled Western Wayne 52 to 7.
- 10:42SPEAKER_02: You know, I could touch on the comments there.
- 10:44SPEAKER_02: Again, we're trying to get consistent quarterback play.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: We've had some injuries, guys coming in and out a little bit, making some mistakes, and those mistakes are costing us.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: And playing prep, you know, at their home stadium, those mistakes you can't make.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: Those undefaded teams, they take advantage of it.
- 11:01SPEAKER_02: They were definitely a tough matchup this week.
- 11:03SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, Coach Reps just this week, buddy.
- 11:06SPEAKER_02: He's uh he looked he was like Bill Parcel's out there, he's had enough, and uh he's trying to clean those errors up so the team can get back on trap on track.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: But kudos to prep.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: Thoughts on any of those other statement games?
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think uh, you know, and and we talk about this each week, like which teams are really the good teams, and you I think you just said it there.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: The teams that are the really good ones are gonna take advantage of those mistakes and they're gonna they're gonna put teams away.
- 11:30SPEAKER_01: And it's it's uh, you know, and I could I say this all the time, like we played North Pocono, they did that to us early.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, you ran into that a little bit with prep Dallas is doing it every week.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Uh Dunmore is doing it every week.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: I mean, when these teams are beating these teams by 50, uh, you know, it's uh there's something to be said for that.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously they're good football teams, they take advantage of any mistakes you're gonna make.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: Then, like I said, if they when they when that uh snowball starts to roll down the mountain, you're you're stuck as a as the opposing team trying to you know make up for the mistakes, and and then you press a little bit and you make more mistakes, and then you know the score gets worse.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: So uh we're seeing that a little bit with some of these really good teams, and uh, you know, I'm always anxious, and I've said this all the years I've coached, you're anxious to see what's gonna happen when they're in a close game, some of these teams, and they, you know, will they make the play in the fourth quarter uh you know to win those games when it's tight.
- 12:24SPEAKER_01: And and none of these teams have really been in any of those tight games yet.
- 12:28SPEAKER_01: So uh maybe these next couple weeks you'll get a better read on you know uh how good they really are and what they're able to do.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: 100% there.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: And these five, six win teams, they go in with I think with a mental advantage too at this level.
- 12:39SPEAKER_02: You know, they believe they've their confidence is high, they're battle tested.
- 12:43SPEAKER_02: And again, when these teams are you come in, the team tries to be motivated, but then those mistakes come and then they start pressing and you know, keeping uh keeping our coaches uh you know up to the task here.
- 12:55SPEAKER_02: But we'll see.
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of seasons still to be played to finish this strong.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: On the opposite side of it here, upsets and first wins.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: Tunkanic stuns Montrose 24-21 for its first win.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: Lackawanna Trail edged Old Forge 21-14 for its first.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: Valley View defeats Delaware Valley 28-7, and Wyoming Valley West handled Scranton 32-7.
- 13:19SPEAKER_02: Thoughts, coach.
- 13:20SPEAKER_01: Well, I'm gonna work backwards.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: Wyoming Valley West, I think, is a lot like uh my team.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: I think they have confidence now.
- 13:26SPEAKER_01: Uh maybe something that they haven't had, you know, in a while.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: And now uh, you know, you see them each week going out, playing good football, uh, you know, relatively mistake-free that you start to win games, and it's that same snowball effect.
- 13:38SPEAKER_01: I think uh, like I said, uh our game against North Pocono for our kids was a huge eye-opener, and our kids started practicing harder, doing the things they needed to do, and you could see that uh, you know, taking place on a Friday where the you know not a lot of mistakes, not turning the ball over.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's uh it's big.
- 13:55SPEAKER_01: And then uh Delaware Valley, I think the big thing is they're you know, we talked about them early in the year as a reputation thing, and they're just struggling right now, I think, uh getting a lot going on offense.
- 14:05SPEAKER_01: It's just one of those years, uh, a down year, there and their schedule doesn't get any easier, obviously, in Division I.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: Um Lacuana Trail, we talked about the last couple weeks, they're starting to get some injured guys back.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: Uh, and some of those young kids now have five and six games under their belt, which is uh gonna pay dividends, I think, at the end of this year and into the you know the coming years these kids play.
- 14:26SPEAKER_01: And then uh Toncanic's been close in a lot of games and uh you know that get over to hump now playing Montrose, who again, same thing.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: They've played some, I think an easier schedule.
- 14:36SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, I'm happy these teams get wins, and um, you know, some of these other teams are keeping it rolling uh, you know, in the direction they're going.
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I love the resilience of those teams that didn't have that first win, and they just keep grinding it out, and the coaches keep grinding it out, and they got some good results this past weekend.
- 14:55SPEAKER_02: So another week in the books.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: Now we look ahead.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: Our updated sports wire rankings here.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: We'll start with the big school top ten.
- 15:06SPEAKER_02: Man, we got some heavyweights here, coach.
- 15:08SPEAKER_02: North Pocono 6-0, Dallas 6-0.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Coach, take us through these rankings.
- 15:13SPEAKER_02: What do you think here?
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think the uh we've talked about this.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: One and two to me are probably interchangeable.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, they're they're probably the two best teams, you know, as far as the big school teams go uh in District 2.
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: I don't think there's any doubt about that right now until somebody knocks them off.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: And it's just athletes, it's all facets.
- 15:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, uh Dallas last week scored on offense, scored on defense, scored in special teams, like they're and they've always been that way.
- 15:38SPEAKER_01: They put a lot of uh emphasis on that, they do a nice job.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Uh Valley View, obviously, big win over Delaware Valley.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, uh four is is Holmesdale, I think, uh scoring all the points, doing a nice job at five and one.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: And I said, uh, you know, somebody said, well, how could Holmesdale be ahead of Wallon Paulpak?
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: Well, week one uh is a win, right?
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: So Paw Pack's rolling too.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, they'll they'll have a relatively, I think they'll win again this week.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: Uh well, actually, Wallon Paulpak's playing you guys.
- 16:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, we'll talk about it.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: Easy coach, easy.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: I don't want to jump the gun there.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: And I slipped because we're gonna talk about that.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Uh I was thinking Wall and Pawpak was playing West, but that was the that was this past week.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: So got a win over West.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: Uh so they have it rolling.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: But again, they're gonna get into the heart of their schedule now.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: I think four of the better teams in Division I.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: Uh Abington, same thing.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: I think uh, you know, I think it's gonna be a week-to-week thing.
- 16:29SPEAKER_01: I think uh I've told you this in the past.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: I think you match up better against certain teams than other ones, and you have, you know, when you're interchangeable a little bit at quarterback, I think that's a tough thing to be in in high school.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: Wyoming Valley West playing really well right now.
- 16:41SPEAKER_01: They're they're on a little roll.
- 16:43SPEAKER_01: Berwick's still trying to deal with uh losing Cleaver, so I think they're gonna be up and down, uh, depending on who they're playing.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: Pittston, we've said all year they score a ton of points, but they give up a ton of points.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: So uh they're gonna be in every game because of how they score, but there's a chance they're gonna lose games too by giving up points.
- 17:00SPEAKER_01: And then Delaware Valley at the end, um, you know, again, struggling.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: But I think here's our my thing.
- 17:07SPEAKER_01: When you get to the end here, uh there's not a whole lot of you know great teams that are big school teams, uh, you know, past Delaware Valley.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: A lot of teams are O fur, some teams have one win.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: So uh I still think at the end of the day, if Delaware Valley played, you know, those types of teams, I think they'd get uh wins if they went head to head.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: When you look at Abington Heights and Delaware Valley, and I'm not throwing a challenge flag this week, but what do they have to do here down the stretch to make the most out of you know what's left of the season?
- 17:39SPEAKER_02: You need you know, these are two teams that we know had higher expectations going into the season.
- 17:43SPEAKER_02: They were higher up in our rankings, they've both had some injuries, they both, you know, making some mistakes.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: How do you see this playing out?
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 17:53SPEAKER_01: I think you really have to, and I'm just saying this from a head coaching perspective.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: I think you have to fix something.
- 17:59SPEAKER_01: Like there's there's you could probably put your finger on one or two things that maybe if you can just make a little change and fix it a little bit, then maybe it gets you five or six plays in a game that are going uh instead of being negative, they're gonna be positives.
- 18:12SPEAKER_01: Um I was talking to Coach Arthur about this a couple weeks ago.
- 18:15SPEAKER_01: He was telling me how much trouble he's having scoring in the red zone.
- 18:19SPEAKER_01: Like his kids are making a lot of mistakes, they're not getting the ball in the end zone.
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: And I I said to him, uh, I had that same problem at Valley View probably whatever how many years ago.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: We just couldn't score.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: We'd get inside the 20 and we'd either have a penalty or you know, we'd turn the ball over on downs.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: So I made a uh you know, an effort at practice where we did a lot of maybe like a half hour of just all red zone.
- 18:41SPEAKER_01: We put the kids in some difficult situations, uh, made them get out of it, fixed the things we had to fix, and then as the year went, uh, you know, week six, seven, eight, nine, ten, we started getting the ball in the end zone, and now those those losses became wins.
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: So I just think if you can fix a couple things, uh, and you know, sometimes it's even a positional thing.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Maybe you have uh uh somebody standing on the sideline, it can help you in a position and they make some plays.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Valley View used Anashevsky this week at running back, he ran great for them.
- 19:10SPEAKER_01: So, you know, you start to test some different things, and maybe you get a couple wins, get the ball rolling, and now, you know, what was three losses is now three wins, and you're right back in it.
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Your kids have a lot of confidence and you're back in a playoff hunt, and you got a chance.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and you point out a couple things that, you know, for our listeners with me coaching at Abington that I've observed.
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: One, you mentioned moving players around a little bit.
- 19:33SPEAKER_02: You know, we played a team like Dallas and they were really big up front.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: We've had to make some adjustments because we've been really seeing these physical teams with Dallas, North Pocono, uh, prep, and we've had to move some guys around.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: Thomas Reese is one of our better players, you know, on the D-line and offensive line, and we needed his muscle, his strength, his aggressiveness in different places.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: So we've been moving some guys around in defense, which I which I think helped.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: And then that red zone piece that you mentioned.
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: Last couple weeks, we've been doing what we call a comma drill and really putting the team in a lot more situational red zone offense because we're moving the ball.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: You know, Anglin's running great, he's a heck of a running back.
- 20:10SPEAKER_02: You know, our quarterbacks do make plays, our receivers, but man, when we get down there, that's when those mistakes are happening.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: You know, an offsides here, a false start, uh, you name it, coach.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: So we'll see how that comes into play.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: We'll talk about that more when we get to this week's preview, but trying to clean up the red zone and trying to move things around.
- 20:28SPEAKER_02: And I'm sure, you know, Delaware Valley is trying to do some of those same things.
- 20:31SPEAKER_02: There's a lot of pride in that program, and they're this isn't a reflection of what they how they normally play.
- 20:38SPEAKER_02: So hopefully they could finish strong and we'll see what happens in these next few weeks.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: We had this.
- 20:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, I people ask me all the time, like, what's been the difference at Holmesdale between you know, last year we were four and seven and we're five and one this year, and a lot of it's just been scoring.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: I mean, last year we just we couldn't get the ball in the end zone.
- 20:54SPEAKER_01: I mean, you got to be able to score points, right?
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: I mean, and you're you say the same thing about Abington, but um, you know, some of that too is kids getting games under their belt, and they, you know, they get a little better just by playing and going through it.
- 21:07SPEAKER_01: And, you know, like I said, you get a couple games where uh you punch it in instead of turning it over, and and it changes the whole outlook and things really quick.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 21:15SPEAKER_02: And that's the thing.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: When we weren't getting in there in the red zone and you're playing those upper echelon teams, now we're pressing.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: So now instead of just running our normal offense, even between the 20s, we're trying to force something or you know, just trying to do too much.
- 21:28SPEAKER_02: So we'll see how that plays out this week.
- 21:30SPEAKER_02: Again, big school top 10.
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: We got some powerhouses there, some a lot of competitive teams chasing them still in the rankings.
- 21:36SPEAKER_02: We'll see what uh happens this week.
- 21:38SPEAKER_02: Now we'll shift gears to the small school top 10.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: Equally exciting.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: Like every week, my challenge flag is out for Coach Hoanitz here.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: Coach Hoanitz, I still see prep at five and one and some undefeated teams behind him.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: Take us through the rankings and defend those rankings, sir.
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I just think it's a uh we've talked about this.
- 21:57SPEAKER_01: I just think it's a schedule thing, too.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, prep's playing a bigger schedule.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Schedule.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: They're playing tougher teams, I think.
- 22:02SPEAKER_01: So I give them the benefit of the doubt just because of mainly scheduling.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: Dunmore's strength of schedule right now.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: They're their opponent's record right now is 13 and 23.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: So they're not playing a lot of heavyweights like Prep's going to do.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: Prep's going to run into you this week.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: Ran into you last week.
- 22:27SPEAKER_01: They're going to play Valley View still.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: They're going to play Wall and Paul Pack still.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: So they're going to get, I mean, they're going to play a lot of teams right now that are, you know, winning record kind of teams that are, you know, going to battle for district championships.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: So I'll still give them the benefit of the doubt.
- 22:41SPEAKER_01: Dunmore is undefeated.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Lakeland's undefeated at three.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: I think obviously losing their quarterback is going to be a you know a tough blow for them.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: They're still an awesome football team, believe me.
- 22:50SPEAKER_01: I've seen more film on them in the last week than uh than I want to keep looking at.
- 22:55SPEAKER_01: But uh Wyoming area now is starting to play a little bit uh better.
- 22:58SPEAKER_01: They they've kind of got their guys in their spots.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, they're starting to play Wyoming area football, which you can tell.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: Uh Riverside, I just dropped them behind there just because I think, you know, I watched film on Riverside, and I they're very, I don't want to say they're one-dimensional, but Rose is really their guy.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, obviously, uh, and I thought Lako did a nice job last week of you know, gearing their defense to take away things he's able to do, which I think some teams will start to do.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: Uh, Lake Lehman and Mid Valley are always right there in the mix.
- 23:27SPEAKER_01: Lake Lehman beat Mid Valley early, so they'll stay ahead.
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: Uh, Western Wayne, uh, you know, they're a good football team.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Western Wayne's playing some good teams with good records, and then uh rolling it with Montrose and Trail.
- 23:39SPEAKER_01: And it's again, I think it's the same thing at the end here.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: You start to get to the end of these, and a lot of the teams don't have a lot of wins, or they're Ofer, or they're, you know, I just think head to head.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: Uh, like I said, I think Trail's starting to get some guys back.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: I think they'll start playing better football.
- 23:52SPEAKER_01: Montrose uh, you know, still has a bunch of wins, but I again I think a lot of it's because of teams they're playing.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: So a lot of these teams will play each other, like we said, so a lot of things will play out, and you'll you'll get a better picture in the next couple weeks.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Well, you defended it well, so I won't throw the challenge flag tonight.
- 24:09SPEAKER_02: I had it ready, but you defended it well there.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm still pulling for those undefeated there.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: Dummer at 6-0.
- 24:15SPEAKER_02: You mentioned Lakeland's gonna have a tough obstacle now with it with losing another starting quarterback, so we have to see.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: Do they have another trick up their sleeve?
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be an uphill battle.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: And you know, you got a couple teams there that are struggling in our rankings there.
- 24:30SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, Lacuana Trail with that one and five record.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, we'll see how they can finish out here.
- 24:37SPEAKER_02: Western Wayne at 3-3.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, a tough loss to your Honesdale team, but again, they're competing, they're hanging in there.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: You know, Western Wayne's in the same boat.
- 24:48SPEAKER_01: Oh, same bolt that we're talking about.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: They lost uh their best player or one of their best players, their tailback, uh went out a couple uh weeks ago with a with an injury.
- 24:57SPEAKER_01: And again, it it hampers uh you know what teams are trying to do.
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: I just think, and and and again, it depends on what your team has too.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: Like Lakeland, I think, is in a great position where they have so many athletes where they can, you know, they this is their this is gonna be their third quarterback now this year.
- 25:13SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna tell you this.
- 25:15SPEAKER_01: Their three kids would start on 90% of the football teams in District 2, right?
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: And they have three of them that are gonna, you know, they could do that.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: So how many teams can say they have that?
- 25:24SPEAKER_01: And and there's not many, I'm gonna be honest with you, because I I know uh, you know, at a lot of places when you look at rosters and things, I mean, you know, it's hard enough to get a second string quarterback.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: He's gonna have his third kid in there.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: And believe me, as far as athletes go, they're you know, they'd be 1A, 1B, 1C.
- 25:41SPEAKER_01: They're all super talented, fast.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: They can run, they can throw.
- 25:44SPEAKER_01: Uh and he probably has two more that if something happened, he can put them in there, and those two kids would start at most places.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: So uh some teams have uh uh a lot of riches and some don't.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: So again, like I said, if you can counterbalance some of this with some of these injuries, you're in a much better spot than a lot of the other teams.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: Well, kudos to the Lakeland coaching staff and the and the players for again rallying around, you know, the injuries.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: We never want to see any team lose one quarterback, never mind two.
- 26:12SPEAKER_02: Um, so we'll see what they could do coming up this week.
- 26:15SPEAKER_02: We are gonna get to week seven.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Week six is in the books.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: We had our rankings there, but before we get to our week seven preview, of course, we have it's time for the fit of the week fueled by fit AF Nutrition.
- 26:27SPEAKER_02: Our sportswire team is watching every Friday night for the best game day fits.
- 26:32SPEAKER_02: And this week's fit of the week goes to Carmelo Barnett of the Riverside Vikings.
- 26:38SPEAKER_02: You know, Carmelo, I caught to coach his dad, Javon, with the NEPA miners semi-pro football team.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: So I always love that when at any level, you know, you're whether you're working with coaching or you you coach somebody, and now their kids are playing, and Carmelo's a heck of an athlete there, but he has definitely got some drip there, coach.
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: We break this down every week.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: October being an important month, breast cancer awareness.
- 27:01SPEAKER_02: We're seeing all the teams rocking the pink, and and uh Mellow here did it very well there with the one-arm pink sleeve, the gloves.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: I think there's some athletic tape down by the ankles there.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: So congrats, Mello.
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: Uh, this week you were styling and get the fit of the week.
- 27:16SPEAKER_02: And when it comes to your own fuel, check out FitAF Nutrition, meal prepping.
- 27:22SPEAKER_02: Use code Vikings20.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: Thanks to Mello Vikings20 to save 20% off your first order of seven meals or more.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: Fit of the week fueled by Fit AF Nutrition.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: And with that, coach, we roll into week seven.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: And an exciting week seven, it is an exciting week seven for you.
- 27:42SPEAKER_02: I know as a coach, I mean, we love coaching every week.
- 27:45SPEAKER_02: We don't take any program or team for granted, but when you get to play the powerhouses, those competitive juices get flowing.
- 27:52SPEAKER_02: We love good football.
- 27:54SPEAKER_02: Um, as we do every week, obviously, Coach Juan is coaches for Honesdale, so he's not going to give a prediction.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: He's obviously working hard and confident in his team, but we got a great matchup here.
- 28:03SPEAKER_02: Honesdale 5-1.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: As coach mentioned earlier, you know, from that North Pocono game, that team learned a lot, has been practicing playing different 5-1.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: Lakeland overcoming injuries 6-0.
- 28:15SPEAKER_02: It's Friday night, 7 o'clock.
- 28:16SPEAKER_02: At a good old Chapman Lake coach, your guys better have the long sleeves ready there.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: You know it.
- 28:24SPEAKER_02: Honesdale is rolling behind Gabe Duda.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: Lakeland, 6-0.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: Jackson Poches was doing it all.
- 28:30SPEAKER_02: He gets injured, but they're still able to knock off Riverside.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: Coach, this could be a statement game for the Hornets and a test for whether Lakeland could overcome another injury.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: Uh, again, you're not in the prediction business with your own team, but what are you seeing?
- 28:44SPEAKER_02: What should the fans, the listeners, expect up at Chapman Lake this weekend?
- 28:49SPEAKER_01: Well, I think it'll be a great football game.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: It's a uh, I mean, you're gonna get a playoff game really week seven.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: And I mean, uh, these this is how often do you get a you know, six and oh, five and one?
- 29:00SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have two of those uh this week.
- 29:02SPEAKER_01: So um, you know, I think both games will be great games.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think two offensive teams that are putting a ton of points on the board that I think each team will kind of struggle uh, you know, stopping the other one.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Uh they're defen both defense have been playing really well.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: They have good special teams both.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: So uh, like I said, they have Lakeland has a ton of athletes.
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, McFarland makes a ton of plays for them.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: Uh Rolls and Crans, I'm assuming will be the quarterback.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: He played came in last week for uh for Jackson.
- 29:31SPEAKER_01: So I'm assuming that's what they'll do.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: And again, equally as athletic, uh, he's able to do a lot of things.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, that they might get some guys back from uh they've had Loomis out.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: I think you know he's been kind of working into some games.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: I'm assuming he'll be back this week.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: So they're getting some of their uh team back that they haven't had.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: So they're a great football team, well coached, uh, you know, good in all facets of the game.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: So uh, you know, I'll I'm I'm it's for me, I these are the games that why I came back to coaching again, right?
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's uh this these playoff types of games.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: You get a chance to uh play the best teams, and uh we'll see, you know, who's able to do it on Friday night.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: I wish we could just like clone ourselves and go to other games because I would love to be at this game, you know, a combination of obviously supporting you, coach.
- 30:17SPEAKER_02: I'm always rooting for you every week in your squad and everything you're doing up there at Honesdale, and then you know my heart's you know shaped like that arrowhead back there, uh, you know, nothing like Chapman Lake and those cowbells going off there and just that atmosphere.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, with you not being able to make a pick, I guess, you know, I I always appreciate our listeners in the chat, they make the show better.
- 30:37SPEAKER_02: Uh Dave Kurtzman, he has Honesdale over Lakeland this week.
- 30:40SPEAKER_02: So, you know, our listeners are side in your way.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: My brain says two good ball clubs, even though Lakeland has home field advantage, and I think it always is a true home field advantage at Chapman Lake.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: My mind says, you know, even though they're gonna have a good kid in Rosencranz stepping into quarterback, um, that's just a lot to overcome for two good teams.
- 31:01SPEAKER_02: So my mind is picking Hohenesdale this week and always rooting for you, coach.
- 31:06SPEAKER_02: But my heart is still saying there could be some Chapman Lake magic up there.
- 31:10SPEAKER_02: You know, you get a little gusts of wind and just crazy things happen, but it should be a great one.
- 31:15SPEAKER_02: Good luck to both squads this week and look forward to hearing the results and and seeing how that goes.
- 31:20SPEAKER_02: Two great programs.
- 31:22SPEAKER_02: Now, that's just one of two heavyweight battles that night, coach.
- 31:26SPEAKER_02: We also have Scranton Prep 5-1 at North Pocono, 6-0.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: The number one small school visits the number one big school, undefeated North Pocono and Chase Zimmerman.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: You know, I got to see him at Abington.
- 31:40SPEAKER_02: Again, he he ran that offense so disciplined.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: And then you got prep who just you know really did a great job versus Abington.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: I saw them firsthand, another discipline program as far as what you know executing their offense and defense.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: Who do you like here, coach?
- 31:55SPEAKER_02: How do you see this playing out?
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: Well, I think it's gonna be a great game.
- 31:58SPEAKER_01: And it and uh you know, in any year, this is a great game, right?
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I've coached uh in Division I obviously for a long time at Valley View.
- 32:05SPEAKER_01: So these were always uh heavyweight fights when you had you know some of these teams kind of getting together.
- 32:10SPEAKER_01: So this has always been a good game.
- 32:12SPEAKER_01: Uh obviously this year has a little more uh juice to it with both teams being uh you know top of their you know craft, I guess uh as to say.
- 32:20SPEAKER_01: So uh you know, prep's gonna come with that with Farmer, uh Jeffers, McFartland.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: They they come at you with a lot of athletes.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, North Pocono's gonna have Wolf, uh Zimmerman.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't know if Cole West is gonna play.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: He's I know he's dealing with an injury, so I don't know if he's gonna be back or not.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: And if he's not there, uh I think that's a big, you know, big blow to them.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: I think it's uh one less athlete that prep has to worry about.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: So um I this is a tough game because I I you know I'm back and forth.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: Um I I'm gonna say I'm gonna pick prep just because I I think if West isn't in there, I think it like I said, they have one less uh athlete to worry about.
- 33:00SPEAKER_01: I think they have you know, North Pocono's have a lot to worry about with all the uh all the prep athletes.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: So I think if West was in there, I'd probably take North Pocono, but if he's not uh I think Scranton Prep, you know, gets the nod here.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: I think we're all on the same page.
- 33:15SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna plug Dave again here.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: You know, he he likes North Pocono.
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: If West plays, if not, he he believes Prep wins.
- 33:22SPEAKER_02: And I was kind of the same way going in there.
- 33:26SPEAKER_02: Again, having coached against both of these teams, watching both of their film.
- 33:31SPEAKER_02: I worry North Pocono gets a little bit one-dimensional without Cole West.
- 33:34SPEAKER_02: Prep's got a really big line, although North Pocono's is is solid also.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: Um North Pocono's very disciplined in what they run, but I'm gonna take prep here.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: I think Cole West not only has to play, I think he has to be 100% you know, I like that they're a North Pocono that I think that home field advantage is definitely big there.
- 33:52SPEAKER_02: Prep has gotta be disciplined.
- 33:55SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be really important for them.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: They had some penalties versus us that could have cost them.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: Um I don't think they'll get away with that versus a North Poker, you know.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: So, but I'm gonna take Prep in a close one.
- 34:05SPEAKER_02: Just think they're the healthier of the two ball clubs.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: And Dan, I think uh, you know, we talk about West offensively, but defensively, he's a great football player.
- 34:13SPEAKER_01: He is everywhere on defense.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: I mean, he's you know, anytime you throw the ball, he seems to always be there.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: He's making tackles at the line of scrimmage from a safety spot.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: So I, you know, not only and special teams really for him.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: He runs back kicks for them.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, there's he has so much of an impact on it on a football game.
- 34:31SPEAKER_01: Probably uh, you know, in my years of coaching, probably one of the uh kids I've seen that makes an impact on every part of the game.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: And he's all over the place.
- 34:40SPEAKER_01: So to not have him, it's not just an offensive thing, it's defense special teams, which I think uh you know is tough to overcome for them.
- 34:48SPEAKER_02: Spoken like a true stud DB there, Coach Juanitz, you know, and in my mind, obviously automatically goes offensive first there as I was enjoying watching him at receiver there, and but a hundred percent, and then special teams, as you mentioned.
- 35:01SPEAKER_02: That's that's often the X factor in these close games, right?
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: You know, you got to win the field position on kickoff and punt, and it could become a big difference in this game.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: So, again, two heavyweight battles this this week.
- 35:14SPEAKER_02: We'll talk a little bit about heavyweights later on, but um they're gonna be great games to see.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: But there's other good football yet to be played here that we're covering.
- 35:22SPEAKER_02: Wall and pop pack, you've seen them firsthand, they've been rolling, kind of similar to you.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: You know, we talked about how you your team responded well to a challenge where it's Poco.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: They've responded well from a challenge from Honesdale and have been playing good ever since, probably practicing better, learning from their mistakes.
- 35:39SPEAKER_02: They go to Abington two and four.
- 35:41SPEAKER_02: Abington's been struggling a bit, but now you've got a desperate Abington team that's very hungry going into this game at home.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: What's your thoughts here?
- 35:49SPEAKER_02: Does a surging wall and pop back with Ed Keysendale and Jake Rafferty keep rolling, or could Jang and Jaden England and Abington figure things out?
- 35:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think uh well, I think this is gonna be another game that I think is a great football game, and I agree.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: I think Abington's gonna uh you know come out swinging.
- 36:05SPEAKER_01: I think obviously uh Abington has has such a football history that uh you know a two-and-four record is not where you want to be and not what they're used to being.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: So uh I'm sure you guys and Coach Rep, I I know very well, and I'm sure he'll be on everybody and fixing things he needs to fix and getting them uh in the right path here quickly.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: But uh same thing with Pawak.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: I think you know Keysendahl and Rafferty kind of run the show there.
- 36:31SPEAKER_01: They've done a nice job of uh running the ball well and throwing the ball well when they've had to, but uh I'm gonna take Abington here.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: I just think at home I think they're tough to beat, and I think this is gonna be the first time that uh, you know, probably since our game, that Wall and Pawpak's actually gonna play uh, you know, a team that's kind of healthy and has all their players there, and it's uh can play some good defense, match up a little bit better.
- 36:54SPEAKER_01: And we've talked about these matchups.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: I think Abington will match up a little better against Wall and Paul Pack than they do against uh some of the other teams.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna take Abington at home uh tomorrow night.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 37:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Thursday night slate here.
- 37:07SPEAKER_02: Um they're having a bonfire this evening, a little pep rally tomorrow.
- 37:12SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, again, I not gonna get in the prediction business uh on a team I coach, same as you.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: But I will say, again, for the fans and the listeners, Abington did have a really good week of practice this week, better than previous weeks, as we mentioned earlier in the show, really trying to drill in on the red zone area, moving some pieces around.
- 37:30SPEAKER_02: And then the team just played at a higher tempo.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: Again, I think Coach Repcious, uh, I give that Bill Parcell's comparison a little bit, like he just cranked it up, and all the coaches just delivering a message.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: You know, I challenged them today before I left practice, like, you gotta come together.
- 37:44SPEAKER_02: So we'll see if they could come together.
- 37:46SPEAKER_02: Two good programs.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: Uh I think it's gonna be a battle this week uh at Abington.
- 37:52SPEAKER_02: Now we have Western Wayne, 3-3, traveling to 6-0 Dunmore, unbeaten Dunmore coach with Western Union, hosts the Western Wayne team led by David Favada, last week's impact player.
- 38:04SPEAKER_02: Can the Wildcats keep it close?
- 38:06SPEAKER_01: Well, Dunmore's had three straight shutouts.
- 38:09SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, it's they're just they're playing great football right now.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: Uh Costanzo, three more touchdowns.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Um, they had 359 yards rushing as a team, so they're running the ball really well.
- 38:20SPEAKER_01: And they're not even uh they're beating teams by so much.
- 38:23SPEAKER_01: The starters, I'm assuming, are barely getting into the third quarter, so they're doing all this on you know a half's worth of work, really.
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: So uh Western Wayne's a good football team.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: I think they have some really good athletes.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: They just don't have, I think, all the pieces to be able to uh beat Dunmore.
- 38:37SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna say uh Dunmore again here, and it could be a fourth shutout, to be honest with you, with uh you know what they're able to do and how they're able to move the ball and score points.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: I'm with you.
- 38:48SPEAKER_02: I say Dunmore rolls, and I'm I'm I'm standing by Dunmore Challenge and prep for that top spot in the Sportswire rankings.
- 38:55SPEAKER_02: Dallas, 6-0, another undefeated team behind Talon Gesky travels to Lake Lehman, a team that has steadied at 3-3.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: Coach, you know, I mentioned Coach Parcells before.
- 39:08SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna mention him a couple of times tonight here.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: He used to always warn his teams, he'd be hanging the cheese in the locker room there.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: You know, those trap games.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: Is this a trap game spot for the Mountaineers?
- 39:18SPEAKER_01: I don't think so.
- 39:19SPEAKER_01: I think uh Dallas is just excellent.
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: You know, they I told you they had three scores.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Uh they had a punt return touchdown, they had a block punt for a touchdown, they're scoring offensively.
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: They're they're just all over the place.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: Uh so um, you know, this is this is one of those rivalry games.
- 39:36SPEAKER_01: Dallas and Lake Lehman always uh went at each other for years.
- 39:39SPEAKER_01: Uh they're close to each other to two schools, so uh, you know, that'll come into play a little bit.
- 39:44SPEAKER_01: But I just think they have too much with Gesky and and their running backs, and everybody's able to do everything.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, Lake Lehman's gonna have you know a lot of rushing.
- 39:53SPEAKER_01: They they uh they scored uh five different guys scored a touchdown last week, rushing Harris, Magnata, Heinrich, Bond, and Alby also scored a rushing touchdown.
- 40:03SPEAKER_01: But I think Dallas is too good defensively, they're too good on special teams, and uh Dallas will stay undefeated.
- 40:10SPEAKER_02: I agree, you know.
- 40:11SPEAKER_02: Dallas players, if you're listening, I'm just warning of those trap games.
- 40:14SPEAKER_02: Never want to let your guard down because I am pulling for Dallas.
- 40:17SPEAKER_02: To me, coach, I've seen three of our undefeated teams, and I still stand by.
- 40:21SPEAKER_02: I think Dallas is the is the best program I've I've seen this year.
- 40:24SPEAKER_02: Just all around, I think, complete pieces and really winning the game in the trenchers.
- 40:29SPEAKER_02: Riverside 5-1 at Mid Valley 3-3.
- 40:33SPEAKER_02: Riverside off its first loss.
- 40:35SPEAKER_02: Looks to regroup behind NEPA scoring leader Braden Rose against a 3-3 Spartan squad.
- 40:40SPEAKER_02: Coach, who do we like?
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: Rose is really good.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Uh, I got to watch their game obviously last week uh with film with them against Lakeland.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: So he's man, he is just all over the place.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: He's tough.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Uh even on defense, he's great on defense as well.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Uh 83 yards rushing last week, a touchdown, 106 passing, two touchdowns.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: He's just scrambling.
- 40:59SPEAKER_01: It's like backyard football.
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: It really is like watching just flip him the ball.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: Uh, it's like our old flag games, flip them the ball, let him run around and see if he can throw the ball too deep.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: Um, but and again, I I just don't think mid-valley can keep up with him as an athlete.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I think Mid-Valley will play much better this week than they did last week.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: You know, they'll be able to run the ball maybe a little bit more, but Rose is just too much uh for some of these teams, and it'll be too much for Mid-Vally.
- 41:25SPEAKER_02: I'm with you again, Coach.
- 41:26SPEAKER_02: I think Braden Rose keeps him rolling along with Malo Barnett with the fit of the week.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: Riverside's got some great momentum there.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: Now, coach, we're gonna go a little more rapid fire around the district here to cover the left the rest of this weekend's games.
- 41:40SPEAKER_02: Valley View, 4-2 at West Scranton, 2-4.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: The number three big school with Colin Dempsey should probably handle a 2-4 West Granton team.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think uh West Granton does a pretty good job of throwing the ball, which I think will give Value some fits.
- 41:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, it puts him in some binds, but I just think uh they got two touchdowns from Jeffrey with Silchak last week.
- 42:02SPEAKER_01: Anishzewski had a score close to 100.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: Uh Dempsey had 99 passing, which he's been doing a great job since he started there as the quarterback.
- 42:10SPEAKER_01: Uh Marco Ruby, uh, another long touchdown run for them.
- 42:14SPEAKER_01: So they had another team that has a lot of athletes and guys they can kind of plug and play and put in some different spots each week.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: So uh they'll match up, I think, a little bit with the athletes from West.
- 42:25SPEAKER_01: But like I said, you know, obviously West will throw them all over the place.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: I think it's tough to defend all the time, a team that throws uh you know a lot during the game, but uh, I think Value's too much there, and uh they'll move to five and two.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: Cougars definitely have a good core.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: It's kind of neat hearing a lot of those last names and tradition and guys who we know that we've seen that when I was looking at it today, right?
- 42:43SPEAKER_01: We played with.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: They're going back in time here.
- 42:46SPEAKER_02: We've definitely hit the time travel machine.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: Wyoming area four-and-two at Tunkhannock one and five.
- 42:52SPEAKER_02: Wyoming area visits a Tunkhanic team coming off its first win, coach.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: What do we see here?
- 42:57SPEAKER_01: They got Kopechny really working at uh Wyoming area.
- 43:00SPEAKER_01: He had 160 yards rushing, two touchdowns.
- 43:03SPEAKER_01: Uh Gavin Feeney had an interception for him.
- 43:05SPEAKER_01: So, again, same thing.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: They're doing a good job offensively, uh, great job defensively.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: I think uh since Gravine went out early in the year, uh Kopechny now settled in.
- 43:15SPEAKER_01: Uh, he's doing the things that they need him to do at quarterback.
- 43:17SPEAKER_01: And then uh Tunkanic has uh Lucas Siprich, he's you know, great job last week, 107 yards rushing and a touchdown.
- 43:25SPEAKER_01: Uh I just think Wyoming area, all they have it rolling though.
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I think there'll be too much for Tunkanic.
- 43:31SPEAKER_01: And uh, you know, Tunkanic had a big win last week, but this uh Wyoming area is gonna be a little different than playing Montrose.
- 43:37SPEAKER_01: So uh I see Wyoming area big here.
- 43:40SPEAKER_02: I love it.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: I see our listeners making all their predictions in there.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: And listeners, you know, I I need to know what your results are there compared to Coach Juan as Coach is doing his homework, he's bringing it every week with these predictions.
- 43:51SPEAKER_02: I need some comparisons here.
- 43:53SPEAKER_02: Montrose at Old Forge.
- 43:55SPEAKER_02: Montrose looks uh yeah, Montrose looks to bounce back from Toncanic Law.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Against the one and five Old Forge team.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: Does forge two Montrose keep rolling, Coach?
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: This will be an interesting game, I think, because they're you know Old Forge is kind of up and down, and uh Montrose the last couple weeks have been up and down.
- 44:10SPEAKER_01: Um, it's at Old Forge, uh, which will be obviously a uh you know difference maker for the old forge kids.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: Um, I'm gonna go with Old Forge here, and again, it's kind of like one of those toss-up games.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: I just think uh, you know, defensively, I think they'll be a little bit better than you think.
- 44:27SPEAKER_01: Uh Montrose, like I said, has struggled a little bit against certain teams.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: So uh this is a toss-up game for me.
- 44:33SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, if Montrose wins, I wouldn't be surprised, but uh, I'm gonna go with Old Forge and Holger.
- 44:38SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 44:39SPEAKER_02: Pitston area three and three at Crestwood one and five.
- 44:42SPEAKER_02: Pitston now at 500 football favored on the road.
- 44:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think Pitston will win this game.
- 44:47SPEAKER_01: Like I said, I just think they scored too many points.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: Uh Salvo uh has done a great job for them at quarterback, 125 and two touchdowns last week.
- 44:55SPEAKER_01: Uh they have Ferrentino, had 128 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: And I just think Crestwood's banged up.
- 45:01SPEAKER_01: Jake Jekyll will do a great job for them, and Ryan Barnes great on defense for them.
- 45:06SPEAKER_01: But uh, you know, I just think Pitston's offense will be too much.
- 45:10SPEAKER_01: Uh, and I don't know if Crestwood could kind of keep up with the scoring.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: Hazleton, one and five at Berwick, three and three.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: Berwick tries to build on a shutout win against a struggling Hazleton team.
- 45:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think Berwick wins this game.
- 45:23SPEAKER_01: Uh, they've been really balanced since Cleaver's gone out.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: Uh, they didn't even have a passing yard last week.
- 45:29SPEAKER_01: They ran the ball.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: Uh they had zero yards passing.
- 45:31SPEAKER_01: And listen, I've we've done the same thing this year at Holmesdale, so I'm not knocking that because you can win games by doing that.
- 45:37SPEAKER_01: Uh, so um I think they'll be fine.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: They'll run the ball uh just fine against Hazleton.
- 45:43SPEAKER_01: Hazleton struggled a lot.
- 45:44SPEAKER_01: They struggled last week against Dallas, uh, and it's at Berwick, so Berwick uh probably big in this game.
- 45:51SPEAKER_02: Holy Redeemer 2-4 at Nanacoke, 1-5.
- 45:54SPEAKER_02: Athlete of the week, Brady McDermott and Redeemer.
- 45:57SPEAKER_02: Visit that Nanacoke squad coach.
- 45:59SPEAKER_02: What do you have here?
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think McDermott's gonna be too much for them to handle again.
- 46:03SPEAKER_01: Uh he's just been awesome each week, and uh, you know, Nanacoke struggles a lot of times to get any offense going.
- 46:09SPEAKER_01: They've gotten uh the Leonard to Johnson hookup's been going uh the last six weeks, so they're pretty good there with those two players.
- 46:17SPEAKER_01: But uh I just think McDermott's too much to handle, and I see Holy Redeemer win this game at Nanokoke.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: Scranton 0-6 traveled to Delaware Valley, who's one in five, two of the district's most probably disappointing seasons.
- 46:30SPEAKER_02: These squads get together.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: Does someone finally break through?
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think uh, you know, it's at Delaware Valley, which gives them a uh, you know, definitely an advantage.
- 46:39SPEAKER_01: Uh, I think they'll bounce back.
- 46:41SPEAKER_01: Uh Esteves got back last week, so this will give them another game to kind of get moving a little bit.
- 46:46SPEAKER_01: So uh I think Delaware Valley will be able to run the ball on them.
- 46:49SPEAKER_01: Manning and Fairweather have done a nice job for Scranton, but uh, I think Delaware Valley will get back in the win column here.
- 46:56SPEAKER_02: To close out the week, we shift to Saturday.
- 46:59SPEAKER_02: We've got three games on Saturday this weekend.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: Lackawanna Trail, one and five at Susquehanna, 0-6 Saturday, 1 o'clock, trail off its first win versus a winless 6-0, or 0-6 Susquehanna team.
- 47:11SPEAKER_02: Coach, what do you see here?
- 47:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this will be an interesting game.
- 47:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, I'm gonna take trail just because I think that, like I said, I think a lot of their guys are starting to come back now.
- 47:19SPEAKER_01: I think they'll have their wing tee kind of firing all cylinders.
- 47:22SPEAKER_01: Uh, they've been real balanced, which is tough to defend when you get in that wing T.
- 47:26SPEAKER_01: Susquehanna, maybe, has been doing a uh great job for them.
- 47:29SPEAKER_01: 138 rushing, 174 passing last week and a touchdown.
- 47:34SPEAKER_01: So uh he's kind of their Mr.
- 47:36SPEAKER_01: Everything, like a lot of the other schools have their quarterbacks and kind of do everything.
- 47:39SPEAKER_01: But uh I think trail just the the pedigree too will be too much for Susquehanna.
- 47:44SPEAKER_02: Wyoming Valley West, 4-2 at Wilkesbury, 1-5.
- 47:48SPEAKER_02: Surging Wyoming Valley West hits the road.
- 47:52SPEAKER_02: Do they keep surging, Coach?
- 47:54SPEAKER_01: We've talked about these two kids now for six weeks.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: Uh Malik Campbell, uh their running back for Wyoming Valley West, and Eastman, their quarterback.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: Uh both had huge games last week.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: Uh, I just think there'll be too much for Wilkesbury to uh take care of both of those players.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: And they've struggled a lot on offense.
- 48:11SPEAKER_01: Wilkesbury, they haven't scored a lot of points.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: Uh Wyoming Valley West played pretty good defense too.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: So uh I see Wyoming Valley West winning this game at Wilkesbury.
- 48:20SPEAKER_02: Last one, Carbondale 3-3 at Holy Cross, 2-4.
- 48:24SPEAKER_02: Carbondale, 500 football, visits a Holy Cross team looking to bounce back.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: I think Carbondale win all the rest of their games.
- 48:32SPEAKER_01: I think they have enough weapons uh that a lot of these smaller schools are gonna have a hard time defending.
- 48:36SPEAKER_01: Uh both Vogelinos last week were awesome for Carbondale.
- 48:40SPEAKER_01: Um Caden Vogelino had 161 rushing, two touchdowns, a kickoff return, touchdown, and his brother Mason had over 100 yards rushing and a touchdown.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: So if you look at the two Vogelinos, almost 300 yards between them uh just on the ground and what they do on special teams, uh, and their defense plays fairly well.
- 48:59SPEAKER_01: So Rukowski does a great job for Holy Cross.
- 49:02SPEAKER_01: He keeps them in their games, uh, but I just think again, it'll be uh uh too much for Holy Cross to handle with all those weapons of Carbonell.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: Coach Iwanic, who came out throwing Haymakers again tonight, man.
- 49:14SPEAKER_02: And uh, we're gonna take the haymakers into the ring here.
- 49:17SPEAKER_02: Fight fans.
- 49:18SPEAKER_02: This one is this Saturday.
