- 1:58Speaker 1: I don't know it's have a good music station. But anyway,
- 2:01Speaker 1: it's tam.
- 2:03Speaker 9: It's pretty good. What the podcast?
- 2:08Speaker 1: When that happens, I.
- 2:08Speaker 9: Tell you guys about it. Yes, yeah, Jil Simmons episode
- 2:11Speaker 9: which I'm sure you didn't listen.
- 2:12Speaker 1: To, not yet. That was Alex maybe on the plane.
- 2:16Speaker 1: You guys know, Evan, you just heard from him two hours.
- 2:18Speaker 1: I'm sure you and Alex you figured it all out.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I'm sure to the body.
- 2:21Speaker 5: We opened the show with twenty minutes of deliberation over
- 2:25Speaker 5: a semantics argument, which is just like so us like
- 2:29Speaker 5: he you know, it's we're saying to us, we're saying
- 2:31Speaker 5: the same thing, but we're we're saying it differently, and
- 2:34Speaker 5: we just argue about it.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Fred's thing. It's like they'll get in arguments and I'll
- 2:38Speaker 1: be sitting there being like, are they saying the same thing?
- 2:40Speaker 1: And they're like, Douce, why don't you argue with us?
- 2:42Speaker 1: And I'm like, cause you're saying the same thing. I
- 2:44Speaker 1: don't know what they get in or of course Matis
- 2:46Speaker 1: is back as well, and this is the squad that's
- 2:48Speaker 1: gond of We get through. I got my tea camel meal.
- 2:50Speaker 1: It's delicious. Wish I had some honey in there. Uh,
- 2:52Speaker 1: we're Bigelow, but h Bigelow. That's right, That's that's what
- 2:58Speaker 1: I keep my voice healthy with Bigelow tea. I am
- 3:01Speaker 1: jealous of his dream endorsement. I know it's like his
- 3:05Speaker 1: velvet tones are just wonderful. But we had so much
- 3:08Speaker 1: to talk about. On Tuesday, I kind of came through
- 3:09Speaker 1: everything and was like, oh, we got this. We got
- 3:11Speaker 1: guys signing, guys leaving, all those kind of things, and
- 3:14Speaker 1: we did it from the coordinators yesterday and we did
- 3:16Speaker 1: have an off the record chitty chat, which did you
- 3:19Speaker 1: guys kind of talk? He danced around it a little
- 3:21Speaker 1: bit that were allowed to meet these guys a little bit.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Evan is not allowed. I need to speak because I
- 3:28Speaker 4: have to set the tone. I have to set the
- 3:30Speaker 4: tone for how happy this hour was for Evan Lessar,
- 3:33Speaker 4: this was.
- 3:34Speaker 5: The best days of my life at work because I
- 3:39Speaker 5: don't want jes to be like, what did you just say?
- 3:41Speaker 1: So at work it.
- 3:42Speaker 10: Was literally Christmas in February for Evan. Like watching him,
- 3:45Speaker 10: he was like a kid in the candy candy store,
- 3:47Speaker 10: just going to just.
- 3:48Speaker 1: To be just to set the stage a little bit. Okay.
- 3:51Speaker 5: So I walked in to we call it a happy
- 3:55Speaker 5: hour meet and greet. It wasn't a happy hour.
- 3:57Speaker 1: There's no.
- 4:00Speaker 5: We're meet and green and I belined it for a VP.
- 4:04Speaker 5: I was like, where where's where's the real guy?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Like there's no restraining one. Yeah, I'm allowed to.
- 4:08Speaker 5: Yeah, I belined it for a VP, and I think,
- 4:11Speaker 5: I cat I can say this is not giving anything away.
- 4:13Speaker 5: I be lined for a VP and we start talking
- 4:16Speaker 5: protections and he's talking. He's talking about, well, if we're
- 4:19Speaker 5: into three by one, then we're gonna do this, We're
- 4:21Speaker 5: gonna do that, and I'm just like, hog heaven, God,
- 4:24Speaker 5: it's getting hot in here, and I'm just so excited.
- 4:28Speaker 9: You guys laugh like it's a joke.
- 4:30Speaker 1: It's not.
- 4:31Speaker 7: Because he walked over after that conversation with a VP
- 4:34Speaker 7: to to marry myself and Veronica, and he just like
- 4:37Speaker 7: literally was like it was radiating, literally standing by himself,
- 4:41Speaker 7: He's looking around, he's just taking it all in the
- 4:43Speaker 7: first time I've never seen.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Is there any chance we could go back to last
- 4:48Speaker 1: week show Matt and pull a quick clip of having
- 4:50Speaker 1: apoplectic about the and then it gets like one little
- 4:54Speaker 1: one on one with a VP, and he's like, I
- 4:56Speaker 1: think it's gonna be great.
- 4:58Speaker 5: I talked about it on Catch twenty two my flip
- 5:00Speaker 5: flop here with this and then and then I went
- 5:03Speaker 5: up to Ben McAdoo and I was like, you liked
- 5:05Speaker 5: Patrick Mahomes.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I heard I trust you.
- 5:08Speaker 5: I heard that He's tell me Yoda and then then
- 5:12Speaker 5: then it ended Dante High Tower is there.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It looks like you could step right in.
- 5:17Speaker 5: And I so like, I walk up to Dante High
- 5:19Speaker 5: Tower and like, I mean, come on, like, you know,
- 5:22Speaker 5: thirteen year old Evan Dante High Tower.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I was like loving it.
- 5:25Speaker 4: So that was the thirty year old Evan is still
- 5:28Speaker 4: loving it, clearly.
- 5:32Speaker 9: Tower the whole time I did not.
- 5:33Speaker 5: I talked to him for like, okay, because I recruited
- 5:38Speaker 5: him to the coaching staff and he he agrees, So
- 5:41Speaker 5: that's that's why.
- 5:43Speaker 1: Okay, Well it.
- 5:44Speaker 10: Was, it was.
- 5:45Speaker 1: It was really great stuff yesterday. I mean I I
- 5:47Speaker 1: would say, I said, I said that. I was like,
- 5:49Speaker 1: where's my bonus? Oh no, like fifty dollars your bonus?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Just a lot different, you know than talking to the
- 5:56Speaker 1: coaches in the past, and you know, Marion Alex were there,
- 5:58Speaker 1: you guys were talking to these guys as well. I
- 6:00Speaker 1: was more just I didn't really talk football with any
- 6:02Speaker 1: of them. I just you know, just meeting them. Told
- 6:03Speaker 1: you how one was the new tight end coach, Bob
- 6:05Speaker 1: mc nobles from Hollist And so I did Evan stock
- 6:07Speaker 1: him a little bit but it just felt like a
- 6:10Speaker 1: little strange to me because it felt like there wasn't
- 6:12Speaker 1: this like overriding sense of fear that they're gonna you know,
- 6:16Speaker 1: I mean not that they were any I mean, it
- 6:17Speaker 1: was really, like you said, it was just kind of
- 6:19Speaker 1: a meet and greet. It was just an opportunity to
- 6:20Speaker 1: kind of see these guys. I mean a lot of
- 6:22Speaker 1: them are new to the area. You know, Jeremy Springer
- 6:25Speaker 1: is talking about coming from California and not knowing where
- 6:27Speaker 1: to get a Yeah, great guy. So it's just a
- 6:32Speaker 1: lot different.
- 6:34Speaker 4: Wow.
- 6:35Speaker 1: I didn't know what that happy birthday to him, but
- 6:38Speaker 1: you know, I thought it was just a really cool
- 6:40Speaker 1: day and a good chance for all the media. I mean,
- 6:42Speaker 1: you know, everybody was just getting a chance to meet people.
- 6:43Speaker 1: But we I mean we can talk a little bit
- 6:45Speaker 1: more in depth though about the actual press conferences that
- 6:47Speaker 1: were on the record, and you know, just finally gave
- 6:50Speaker 1: us a sense a little bit of who these different
- 6:52Speaker 1: coordinators are. Their energy. I mean, you guys mentioned Springer
- 6:55Speaker 1: off the top.
- 6:56Speaker 6: I mean I just I.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Afterwards, I turned to Andy Hart, who was next to me,
- 6:58Speaker 1: like wow, low energy guy, Like he's such a special
- 7:01Speaker 1: teams coach. He's just exudes Starbucks, like you know, it's
- 7:04Speaker 1: like this guy, Yeah, he's going to come in this
- 7:06Speaker 1: building and be ready to go. And and just the
- 7:08Speaker 1: last kind of point I would make was, you know,
- 7:10Speaker 1: just you kind of get a sense of both Alex
- 7:12Speaker 1: Van Pelton Springer getting a chance, you know, getting an
- 7:14Speaker 1: opportunity for them, like they've waited their lives to really,
- 7:17Speaker 1: you know, get these chances. And I'm sure that you know,
- 7:19Speaker 1: they seem excited to kind of form an offense and
- 7:22Speaker 1: a special teams to their to their liking and to
- 7:25Speaker 1: their coaching styles.
- 7:25Speaker 10: What's been tap dancing in my brain since we left
- 7:28Speaker 10: those press conferences was the transparency. I mean them being
- 7:31Speaker 10: asked a question like DeMarcus Covington and a VP, simple question,
- 7:35Speaker 10: are you going to be calling plays this year? And
- 7:37Speaker 10: it's been so hard exactly, He's just been so hard,
- 7:39Speaker 10: I am, And both of them said, yes, you know,
- 7:42Speaker 10: the plan is for me to call the plays. And then,
- 7:44Speaker 10: of course, you know, the follow up questions on their
- 7:45Speaker 10: experience doing so, et cetera. You know, those are obviously
- 7:49Speaker 10: a fair game, and they answered those the best that
- 7:50Speaker 10: they could. But that was just so refreshing you know,
- 7:53Speaker 10: seeing that and being able to ask questions and get
- 7:55Speaker 10: the answer for it.
- 7:56Speaker 1: It makes you like I remember thinking like last season,
- 7:58Speaker 1: especially where it's like, at what point does all this
- 8:00Speaker 1: like dodging questions and not being clear about stuff, like
- 8:03Speaker 1: it becomes more effort to do the subterfuse then it
- 8:07Speaker 1: would be just to do with DeMarcus comings. Yes, I
- 8:08Speaker 1: do plan and plant plays. Okay, you know, both he
- 8:11Speaker 1: and a VP. I mean a VP went through kind
- 8:13Speaker 1: of his lengthy history. I thought it was hilarious though,
- 8:15Speaker 1: And it's like when he called plays in the World
- 8:16Speaker 1: World League and no one cares. Nobody meant nobody cares.
- 8:21Speaker 1: But you know, I just I thought that those guys
- 8:23Speaker 1: were both It just showed you, like the truth will
- 8:25Speaker 1: set you free, just tell them. And yes, okay, I
- 8:27Speaker 1: don't have some experience I need that, but this is
- 8:30Speaker 1: how I'm gonna get it.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, at the end of the day, fans
- 8:33Speaker 5: should not care if they're nice to us, Like, it
- 8:36Speaker 5: doesn't make a difference if they're nice to us, if
- 8:38Speaker 5: they're not nice to us. I get that, and I
- 8:41Speaker 5: all the things that I said last week. They still
- 8:44Speaker 5: need to prove it to me. On the field, like
- 8:45Speaker 5: they still need to win football games. I mean, it's
- 8:47Speaker 5: great that, you know, I got my moments with my
- 8:49Speaker 5: guys and it was fun, But that doesn't necessarily mean
- 8:53Speaker 5: that that it's going to translate to wins. But I
- 8:56Speaker 5: think the biggest thing that that I took away from
- 8:58Speaker 5: it is the coaching staff has said. I don't think
- 9:01Speaker 5: that the coaching staff is going to be a detriment
- 9:03Speaker 5: to this team. Like I don't think that they're gonna
- 9:04Speaker 5: lose games because Alex van Peltz, their offensive coordinator. It's
- 9:08Speaker 5: all on Elliott Wolf's shoulders. Like it's it's all about
- 9:11Speaker 5: the players now, Like you had to go pick the
- 9:12Speaker 5: right players because I think they have enough coaching chops
- 9:16Speaker 5: in the room to be a well coached football team.
- 9:19Speaker 5: But are they going to have the right players and
- 9:21Speaker 5: are they gonna have the talent? That's what it comes
- 9:23Speaker 5: down to.
- 9:23Speaker 10: Now, speaking of players, how do we feel about the
- 9:25Speaker 10: response to the question, how do we feel about mac.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Jones dancing around it? And I mean that's probably what
- 9:32Speaker 1: they're gonna have to do for the next, you know,
- 9:33Speaker 1: couple months. I mean, you know, everybody's seen the various reports.
- 9:36Speaker 1: I know, make Grease has a has a right up
- 9:37Speaker 1: today kind of saying that some of the buildings hoping
- 9:39Speaker 1: that Mac can pull a one eighty, and you know,
- 9:42Speaker 1: another part of the locker room's really gonna have to
- 9:43Speaker 1: be convinced of that. I don't think that that's anything
- 9:46Speaker 1: that's all that surprising to us. I mean, I think
- 9:47Speaker 1: we all probably acknowledge that Mac does have some fans
- 9:50Speaker 1: in the building, but he also probably has some guys,
- 9:52Speaker 1: maybe especially on the defensive side of the ball, that
- 9:54Speaker 1: don't necessarily believe in him. And I mean I thought
- 9:57Speaker 1: Alex Van Pelt's answer to the question was, you know interest.
- 10:00Speaker 1: He talked a lot about leadership, about you know, guy
- 10:01Speaker 1: that people are going to get behind, and I mean,
- 10:03Speaker 1: unfortunately the way things have gone for Mac the last
- 10:05Speaker 1: couple of years, I think that's one of the things
- 10:07Speaker 1: that we're questioning now with him, is, you know, is
- 10:09Speaker 1: he still a guy that can get a fifty three
- 10:11Speaker 1: man roster of NFL professional football players who're tough dudes
- 10:15Speaker 1: and have high expectations. Can he get get those guys
- 10:18Speaker 1: to get behind him and win football games? Yeah?
- 10:20Speaker 5: I wouldn't look too much into him saying that everything's
- 10:22Speaker 5: on the table and like what, I don't really know
- 10:24Speaker 5: what is he What is he supposed to say? Like, no, actually,
- 10:29Speaker 5: we're going to trade Mac Jones, Like what is he
- 10:30Speaker 5: supposed to say?
- 10:31Speaker 10: And I thought it was the question before that too,
- 10:33Speaker 10: about how he's seen a few players and like told
- 10:36Speaker 10: them like we have a fresh start. The first person
- 10:38Speaker 10: I thought of was Mac.
- 10:39Speaker 5: Yeah, so he mentioned Mac and Pop Douglas for the
- 10:41Speaker 5: two guys that have probably just been in the facility
- 10:43Speaker 5: recently that he was able to connect with. I just
- 10:47Speaker 5: I don't look anything into it because he really what
- 10:50Speaker 5: other answer would you like him to give? And that's
- 10:53Speaker 5: spot And he's not the one making the personnel decisions either,
- 10:56Speaker 5: so it's not even up to.
- 10:57Speaker 6: Him whether Mac looking at what he has.
- 10:59Speaker 5: Yeah, like Matt Jones is on the roster, he's under contract,
- 11:01Speaker 5: he's a Patriot. Like what else are you supposed to
- 11:03Speaker 5: really say?
- 11:04Speaker 1: That's a huge thing, teast That was, like I thought
- 11:06Speaker 1: the biggest thing people ask him like what kind of quarterback?
- 11:08Speaker 1: And so many of his answers were like, we don't
- 11:10Speaker 1: really have any of these guys yet, Like we don't
- 11:11Speaker 1: really have a team yet. We're kind of waiting to
- 11:13Speaker 1: see what we have and then we can.
- 11:14Speaker 6: Really start to tell That's kind of like what I
- 11:16Speaker 6: said on Tuesday was that like, you know, this is
- 11:18Speaker 6: all right now, you're just kind of waiting, like you
- 11:19Speaker 6: don't know what's gonna happen next. You have the comby
- 11:20Speaker 6: coming up, the draft, But for now, what can we do?
- 11:22Speaker 6: We can't do anything but wait.
- 11:23Speaker 1: So it's the void before the Combine. But but we
- 11:26Speaker 1: will be at the Combine next week. That's very exciting.
- 11:29Speaker 1: You know, you love it, right, all that, all that
- 11:33Speaker 1: stupid stuff, But it's really the big kickoff of the season,
- 11:37Speaker 1: you know, I think, I mean as much as the
- 11:39Speaker 1: Draft starts in Mobile and the Senior Bowl and all that,
- 11:41Speaker 1: it's like, you know, the Combine is really where it's at.
- 11:43Speaker 1: So excited to head out there and you know, produce
- 11:47Speaker 1: a bunch of content from from there and you know,
- 11:49Speaker 1: really just start to dive into these prospects and get
- 11:51Speaker 1: kind of a look at them and you know interested.
- 11:54Speaker 1: I mean, we're hopeful we might be able to get
- 11:55Speaker 1: to talk to Elliot Wolf while we're there. Yeah, so
- 11:58Speaker 1: that would be pretty cool.
- 11:59Speaker 5: We're definitely he's going to talk at the podium, so
- 12:01Speaker 5: like everybody will be able to talk to him. We're
- 12:03Speaker 5: hoping to get him on our on our show separately.
- 12:06Speaker 5: But that even in itself tells you everything that you
- 12:09Speaker 5: need to know about Elliott Wolfe's role, because the people
- 12:11Speaker 5: that talk at the combine are general managers. Like it's
- 12:14Speaker 5: not you know, usually the director of scouting that's getting
- 12:17Speaker 5: up at a podium and talking.
- 12:19Speaker 1: So we said it on Catch twenty two.
- 12:21Speaker 5: I did call him whatever you want, general manager, president
- 12:25Speaker 5: of football operations or whatever.
- 12:26Speaker 1: But this is Elliot Wolf's show. He's in charge. Yeah,
- 12:29Speaker 1: and he's been you know, I think there's been a
- 12:30Speaker 1: lot going on with like each kind of a little
- 12:32Speaker 1: bit of information you get yesterday, Mayo saying, like, you know,
- 12:35Speaker 1: Elliott was in all the interviews with the coaches as well.
- 12:38Speaker 1: You're starting to get a little bit more of a
- 12:39Speaker 1: sense of how this is all structured. And I think
- 12:42Speaker 1: that was the big thing when we first kind of
- 12:44Speaker 1: had this announcement of of who the coordinators were, and
- 12:46Speaker 1: you know, things were kind of getting put together, and
- 12:48Speaker 1: you know everyone was, you know, wondering so much about
- 12:50Speaker 1: like what's the plan? What is the and it's it's
- 12:52Speaker 1: hard you realize yesterday they don't really have the players,
- 12:54Speaker 1: yet you're getting coaches from I mean, that was what
- 12:56Speaker 1: was kind of striking to me yesterday just being in
- 12:58Speaker 1: a room with all those guys was just a variety
- 13:00Speaker 1: of backgrounds and experiences that all these different coaches have,
- 13:04Speaker 1: from McAdoo who's been a head coach, to Vinnie from
- 13:07Speaker 1: Boston College you just got out of who just graduated
- 13:10Speaker 1: or at any mean, do you even.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Know if he has graduate?
- 13:11Speaker 1: You probably did because of COVID, but you know, was
- 13:13Speaker 1: playing for the BC Eagles last year. So you just
- 13:15Speaker 1: you have such a wide range and it's it's but
- 13:18Speaker 1: you don't have the players yet, so you just you
- 13:20Speaker 1: don't know how it's all going to come together. And
- 13:21Speaker 1: I guess we'll start to get a sense of it
- 13:23Speaker 1: once we see free agency and what they start to
- 13:25Speaker 1: put together. Can Elliott picked players? It's all on you? Sorry,
- 13:29Speaker 1: Heavy is the head that wears the crown right like
- 13:31Speaker 1: it's all on him. But it begs the question of
- 13:33Speaker 1: how much impact have had to have these guys had
- 13:35Speaker 1: on the last couple drafts, for better or worse. Certainly
- 13:38Speaker 1: there have been some good picks, and you know, we
- 13:40Speaker 1: should highlight the good along with the bad and you
- 13:42Speaker 1: know Christian Barmore trading up to get him a couple
- 13:44Speaker 1: of years ago, that that was a great move coming
- 13:47Speaker 1: in a time when you didn't really think that was
- 13:49Speaker 1: a huge need defensive line. Certainly Gonzales fell to them
- 13:52Speaker 1: last year, but you know, there have been some misses lately.
- 13:54Speaker 1: So I think that's what we're all kind of wondering is.
- 13:57Speaker 1: And I mean I think we kind of DeVault. Default
- 13:59Speaker 1: position on this show was always well, it's Bill show,
- 14:02Speaker 1: he's the guy, he's making the call.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah.
- 14:06Speaker 10: And I feel like a word that was thrown around
- 14:07Speaker 10: a lot yesterday and I feel like a lot since
- 14:09Speaker 10: this coaching shift has been collaborative, and I wonder, like
- 14:13Speaker 10: how collaborative was it before? Was it not collaborative at all?
- 14:16Speaker 10: And so that's why it's a focus now or I
- 14:18Speaker 10: don't know, I feel like even yesterday, it's going to
- 14:20Speaker 10: be a collaborative effort, collaborative decision.
- 14:22Speaker 6: I think what's interesting is like in the past, like oh,
- 14:24Speaker 6: when you're going through the draft, this is a protypical patriot,
- 14:26Speaker 6: Well what is that now?
- 14:27Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 14:28Speaker 6: Like, what is that is it? Like Marcus Jones used
- 14:29Speaker 6: to be the kind of guy or a Julian edem
- 14:31Speaker 6: On type player. But what are we looking for now?
- 14:32Speaker 6: We don't know yet, So it's a whole new approach
- 14:34Speaker 6: of the draft from everybody.
- 14:35Speaker 5: Yeah, I think especially offensively, I mean defensively, I think
- 14:38Speaker 5: it's going to be relatively the same type of players,
- 14:40Speaker 5: but offensively, they're going to be a wide zone offense.
- 14:43Speaker 5: Like that's I think in Cleveland, you know, talking a
- 14:46Speaker 5: little bit to the to the coaches, they they kind
- 14:48Speaker 5: of transition because of injuries more so than anything, to
- 14:52Speaker 5: more gap schemes, more downhill runs and what the personnel
- 14:55Speaker 5: that came in for the injured players were more fit
- 14:58Speaker 5: for that. But at their root, they are an outside zone,
- 15:01Speaker 5: wide zone system, and I think that's what they're going
- 15:04Speaker 5: to want, which is more athletic tackles, which is guys
- 15:06Speaker 5: that can get out on the edge and block. That is,
- 15:10Speaker 5: you know a little bit of a different type of
- 15:11Speaker 5: player than what we've are traditionally known for here.
- 15:15Speaker 1: So so like, do you think that this do you
- 15:18Speaker 1: think that this maybe means might move on from here?
- 15:21Speaker 1: It's a it's a it's a fair question.
- 15:23Speaker 5: I I don't I don't know how they view it completely,
- 15:27Speaker 5: but I think that you know, the general gist is
- 15:31Speaker 5: that they look for tackles that are long, athletic, have
- 15:35Speaker 5: range at the position, and can obviously get out and
- 15:38Speaker 5: block in space, because that's what that system asks you
- 15:40Speaker 5: to do, and that it's hard to say all those
- 15:44Speaker 5: things and then look at Mike Onwenu and say that
- 15:46Speaker 5: he's a fit, Like it just doesn't It doesn't add up. Now,
- 15:49Speaker 5: maybe a better fit a guard, you know, possibly, but
- 15:52Speaker 5: in terms of him playing tackle in this type of system,
- 15:55Speaker 5: I don't necessarily see it.
- 15:56Speaker 1: What do you look for in a running back in
- 15:57Speaker 1: his own zone scheme? Is it the one cut and
- 16:00Speaker 1: go kind of.
- 16:01Speaker 5: Make reads the red puts the pot in something else
- 16:04Speaker 5: We chatted about a little bit because you know, usually
- 16:07Speaker 5: you think of outside zone it's either a guy like
- 16:10Speaker 5: an Arian Foster who's like great one cut running back,
- 16:13Speaker 5: or it's like a Raheem Mostert who's got the speed
- 16:15Speaker 5: to turn the corner and it's remondrous Stevenson really either
- 16:19Speaker 5: one of those things. But I think what's important is is,
- 16:22Speaker 5: you know a lot of those runs are getting cut
- 16:25Speaker 5: back up up through the middle, Like you don't really
- 16:27Speaker 5: run to the sideline as much as you might think
- 16:30Speaker 5: and it's really about the pacing of the center that
- 16:33Speaker 5: kind of sets the whole tone of it. So I
- 16:35Speaker 5: think the center, you know, David Andrews, his world's about
- 16:39Speaker 5: to change a lot.
- 16:40Speaker 10: You know.
- 16:41Speaker 5: I think there's gonna be a lot more responsibility on
- 16:44Speaker 5: him at the line of scrimmage. That was maybe more
- 16:46Speaker 5: on the quarterback before. I think that's gonna be a
- 16:48Speaker 5: lot more on the center. And in this scheme, he's
- 16:51Speaker 5: kind of setting the pace of the entire movement of
- 16:54Speaker 5: the line in the run game too. So whether it's
- 16:57Speaker 5: Andrews or you know, I will see how long it
- 17:01Speaker 5: is Andrews, but guy like Jake Andrews or whoever's gonna
- 17:04Speaker 5: be after him, it's that's gonna be a really important spot.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I mean, cold, strange kind of better for him though, right,
- 17:10Speaker 1: better for him.
- 17:11Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think City South has the footspeed to
- 17:14Speaker 5: do it as well. He's a pretty good athlete. Tested
- 17:15Speaker 5: well at the Combine his his draft year. So I
- 17:18Speaker 5: think they have some guys, but you know, Trent Brown
- 17:21Speaker 5: probably not. Oh that did him in Mike On maybe not.
- 17:26Speaker 5: You know, like those like are you gonna pay Mike
- 17:28Speaker 5: on win who fifteen to twenty million? Dollars a year
- 17:31Speaker 5: to not exactly be a great fit in the scheme
- 17:33Speaker 5: that you're running.
- 17:34Speaker 1: I don't know, there's so many factors with this team
- 17:36Speaker 1: right now, of like the number of you know, I mean,
- 17:38Speaker 1: it's like I'm talking to Bobic now the tight ends coach,
- 17:41Speaker 1: like you got no tight ends on the roster, Like
- 17:43Speaker 1: what's he doing?
- 17:43Speaker 10: You do?
- 17:44Speaker 1: I mean even the outside line the outside linebackers coach Wilkins. Wilkins,
- 17:49Speaker 1: Drew Wilkins, who another really night like he just kind
- 17:52Speaker 1: of came up to me. But another one where I'm like,
- 17:54Speaker 1: you kind of got you running? That's it? Like right
- 17:56Speaker 1: now he's got he doesn't have much to work with.
- 17:58Speaker 1: So you know, how does all married together with the
- 18:01Speaker 1: guys you retain, the guys you pursue in free agency,
- 18:04Speaker 1: how you construct your offense, what you expect to get
- 18:06Speaker 1: in the draft, how you kind of balance And we
- 18:09Speaker 1: touched on on Tuesday a little bit, maybe focusing a
- 18:11Speaker 1: little bit more on defense. But I don't know, based
- 18:14Speaker 1: on what you've heard over the last couple of days,
- 18:16Speaker 1: do you have any kind of different views of the
- 18:19Speaker 1: current free agents, potential external free agents, and maybe even
- 18:23Speaker 1: the draft. Have your views changed it all from what
- 18:25Speaker 1: you've heard over the last couple of days from the coach.
- 18:27Speaker 5: I always love listening to coaches talk about what they
- 18:30Speaker 5: look for in quarterbacks and then talking to personnel people
- 18:34Speaker 5: and listening to what they look for in quarterbacks because
- 18:37Speaker 5: it's often very different. Like a personnel guy is just
- 18:40Speaker 5: looking for talent, arm talent, mobility, you know those types
- 18:44Speaker 5: of things, like just give me the most talented guy,
- 18:46Speaker 5: whereas like Van Pelt is out there talking about leadership
- 18:49Speaker 5: and mechanics and fundamentals and toughness and like accuracy, and
- 18:54Speaker 5: it's like, okay, well, how do we kind of come together?
- 18:57Speaker 5: And I brought it up early or it's kind of
- 19:01Speaker 5: like the Trey Lance mac Jones argument that we were
- 19:03Speaker 5: having with the forty nine ers.
- 19:05Speaker 1: It's the same thing.
- 19:06Speaker 5: I think the personnel people probably were infatuated with Trey
- 19:10Speaker 5: Lance's tools. Kyle Shanahan was probably fascinated by mac Jones's
- 19:14Speaker 5: pro ready brain and all that kind of stuff. And
- 19:17Speaker 5: I think a lot of coaches look at it and
- 19:19Speaker 5: they just don't want to get fired. So if you
- 19:21Speaker 5: give me a guy, that's a project that I'm gonna
- 19:24Speaker 5: have to develop over two three years are you going
- 19:27Speaker 5: to give me the runway to develop the guy or
- 19:29Speaker 5: if we're not winning in two years, I'm just gonna
- 19:31Speaker 5: get canned because I couldn't figure out Drake May.
- 19:34Speaker 1: You know, like that sort of thing.
- 19:35Speaker 5: So look at you know, I think coaches want experience,
- 19:39Speaker 5: they want leadership, they want pro ready like that. That's
- 19:42Speaker 5: the things that they look for.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Speaking of Drake May, I got to actually got a
- 19:45Speaker 1: text from from mister Paul Perrillo and he is texting
- 19:49Speaker 1: me live from UNC. Wow, he's got He's got a
- 19:54Speaker 1: whole Drake May picture. He's got the field. So Paul's
- 19:58Speaker 1: down there. I think he's doing a little advanced scout,
- 20:00Speaker 1: you know, he's beating the bushes talking to the coaches.
- 20:03Speaker 1: That's all right, like stay in your lane, stay in
- 20:06Speaker 1: your lane. We'll talk about man burning your time outs
- 20:10Speaker 1: at the wrong time. And of course we we didn't.
- 20:12Speaker 1: We didn't officially hear from Fred, but we saw just
- 20:14Speaker 1: a picture from some tropical parts unknown tropics unknown, Fred
- 20:19Speaker 1: uh with his little Fred toes that the boomerang.
- 20:22Speaker 6: And I wonder if on Twitter.
- 20:23Speaker 7: I wonder if on Twitter, but I wonder if he noticed,
- 20:26Speaker 7: like his toes are in the bottom of it for all,
- 20:30Speaker 7: like the slack he gets about.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Feet and stuff like wiggle him, you know, toes in
- 20:34Speaker 1: the water. They're having a great time and uh and
- 20:37Speaker 1: don't worry. Hopefully they they'll well, they'll be back next week.
- 20:39Speaker 6: We won't like that. I'm not giving this up.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Right, that's what.
- 20:45Speaker 6: That's it.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Wait till talk on. Lauria Milloy has something to say
- 20:47Speaker 1: about it. But yeah, those guys will be here kind
- 20:50Speaker 1: of holding down the fort and we'll be calling in
- 20:52Speaker 1: next week. I think we're gonna try to do some
- 20:54Speaker 1: live feed ins and that that kind of stuff. So
- 20:56Speaker 1: I'm sure they're excited to get back and get back
- 20:58Speaker 1: all into this. So uh yeah, we're gonna plow through
- 21:01Speaker 1: the show. You guys have some what what you had
- 21:03Speaker 1: some blind love or what was your your show? You
- 21:06Speaker 1: know what it's you know what it's called. Watched the
- 21:08Speaker 1: first season. I didn't see the rest of it whatever.
- 21:11Speaker 6: That's a cut from season one. I haven't watched the
- 21:12Speaker 6: current season.
- 21:13Speaker 1: There's a former page we're talking about that. This is
- 21:16Speaker 1: a former patient and it's kind of annoying. Really did
- 21:19Speaker 1: she talk a lot about the Patriot No, but her.
- 21:22Speaker 5: Her fiance does her fiance is mentioned at least three
- 21:26Speaker 5: times that she was a Patriots cheerleader one.
- 21:28Speaker 9: Team in So Long too. I was looking at her Instagram.
- 21:30Speaker 9: I think she was a Charlotte Hornet stancer too.
- 21:33Speaker 5: But yeah, she said that she won two super like
- 21:39Speaker 5: she won they won two super Bowls with her as
- 21:42Speaker 5: a cheerleader.
- 21:42Speaker 1: So this was a while ago recently, sound like what
- 21:46Speaker 1: they said on the show sounds like one super and.
- 21:49Speaker 5: And he's mentioned it like several times. And then in
- 21:52Speaker 5: the last episode he started like, so do you know Gronk?
- 21:55Speaker 1: Do you know so? And so I'm like this dude's.
- 21:57Speaker 5: Literally just interested in this girl because she's an NFL
- 21:59Speaker 5: cheer Like that's literally it like she got a shelf.
- 22:04Speaker 1: It wasn't. Well, Camille is the most famous one though,
- 22:10Speaker 1: Gronk's girlfriend. But all right, well check that out.
- 22:14Speaker 4: I Love Is Blonde is a great show.
- 22:18Speaker 1: So it's still the same format where it's just you
- 22:20Speaker 1: don't you can't meet for like the first month and
- 22:22Speaker 1: you just have conversation.
- 22:23Speaker 9: Who is signing up for this?
- 22:25Speaker 8: They changed the last couple of episodes around they bring
- 22:27Speaker 8: old people back.
- 22:28Speaker 6: They didn't do that in the first couple of seasons.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Yeah, let the drama happen.
- 22:32Speaker 9: Is their guy named Jeremy. Yes, Jeremy had a fiance
- 22:35Speaker 9: when he applied for the show. I saw that on.
- 22:38Speaker 5: So Jeremy's girl is an interesting character and I'm it's
- 22:42Speaker 5: a ticking time bomb.
- 22:43Speaker 1: I'm waiting for that one to end.
- 22:45Speaker 9: Isn't he like a sleazy cheater?
- 22:47Speaker 5: So first of all, we talked about this a little
- 22:50Speaker 5: bit upstairs, but his girl season told he said like
- 22:56Speaker 5: something like oh. She said, like, oh, people like compare
- 22:58Speaker 5: me to like a famouselebrity, Like do you want to
- 23:01Speaker 5: guess who it is? And like he was like guessing
- 23:03Speaker 5: like random people, and she was like, no, it's it's
- 23:05Speaker 5: Megan Fox. You don't tell a dude that's never met
- 23:09Speaker 5: you were seeing you that you look like Megan.
- 23:10Speaker 1: Nobody looks like Megan Fox. Absolutely nobody not to know
- 23:14Speaker 1: who Megan Fox was.
- 23:15Speaker 8: She's like, I've been compared to mgk's fiance.
- 23:19Speaker 4: I was, what, that girl is a don plus ninety
- 23:22Speaker 4: nine and like you want to say you look like her?
- 23:24Speaker 10: No?
- 23:24Speaker 9: Absolutely?
- 23:25Speaker 5: And then and then so when they actually meet, and
- 23:27Speaker 5: now we're a Love is Blind podcast, all of a sudden,
- 23:29Speaker 5: when he actually when they actually meet you can see
- 23:31Speaker 5: the smile just go away from his face and he's.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Just like, you're not Megan. Fuck, You're not Megan Fox.
- 23:36Speaker 1: Like you can see it in his head that he's
- 23:37Speaker 1: just like, ah, damn, you send the bar super high
- 23:41Speaker 1: for yourself, Like that's what I'm compare yourself to any
- 23:43Speaker 1: celebrity at all. I have an off top of question though,
- 23:46Speaker 1: if you had to be on one reality show that
- 23:47Speaker 1: you think you could win or dominate on PU Crew,
- 23:51Speaker 1: is there there's there isn't a sorry be a competition
- 23:55Speaker 1: show or just a reality show.
- 23:56Speaker 10: I think I would go and love his blind for real.
- 24:00Speaker 4: I think I would do it one dating is.
- 24:02Speaker 1: A I could kind of see that I.
- 24:07Speaker 11: Could do it.
- 24:07Speaker 10: I could do it because I'm going to ask the
- 24:09Speaker 10: right questions and you have a good judgment of character.
- 24:13Speaker 10: And I would call someone's bs like so fast, like
- 24:15Speaker 10: it's just that was great, and you'd be.
- 24:18Speaker 9: Sad because you have a cool robin your crap together.
- 24:22Speaker 4: I will say my thing like Jessica on this when
- 24:25Speaker 4: she reads Jimmy for Filth, like I was like, you
- 24:28Speaker 4: know what that is me in a nutshell? And I
- 24:29Speaker 4: would just like to say, because y'all are always joking me.
- 24:32Speaker 4: She is a Capricorn ten out of ten, like.
- 24:35Speaker 1: She went about people right now are like, what the hell?
- 24:39Speaker 4: I will say though, I will say that I was
- 24:41Speaker 4: shocked when I heard Evan watch the show because he's
- 24:43Speaker 4: just all football and all films. To hear that he
- 24:46Speaker 4: watches trash TV.
- 24:48Speaker 5: Oh we watch other than sports. All we watch is trash,
- 24:55Speaker 5: all of it below deck, you know. Yeah, we don't
- 24:58Speaker 5: watch any real TV.
- 25:00Speaker 4: See.
- 25:01Speaker 10: That was really shocking for me because it's like, to
- 25:03Speaker 10: hear you only talk about Bruins and Celtics and Patriots.
- 25:07Speaker 1: To hear, I don't talk about the Red Sox Center now, no,
- 25:10Speaker 1: they're embarrassed.
- 25:11Speaker 4: I would everything everything.
- 25:13Speaker 6: But I would love to be on like a Jersey
- 25:14Speaker 6: Shore type show.
- 25:15Speaker 4: I can see what I would like.
- 25:17Speaker 6: The camera pan to me.
- 25:20Speaker 4: I would love it on the Great British Bake Off.
- 25:26Speaker 5: Yell at you, I know, Stan, or something going on
- 25:30Speaker 5: a show with money that I can win likes when.
- 25:34Speaker 9: Like reality TV was really like remember a flavor of love?
- 25:37Speaker 9: Flavor flavor and that that was my gym.
- 25:41Speaker 4: I could see you one family feud.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Yeah, you'd be good at that. Yeah, definitely right. Actually,
- 25:48Speaker 1: before we move on we will. My wife send me
- 25:50Speaker 1: this clip from Jeopardy where the it's going around social
- 25:53Speaker 1: media right now. But the topic was football and they
- 25:56Speaker 1: didn't get a single starting at like two hundred and
- 25:59Speaker 1: like an alex traa an altru. Obviously back was getting
- 26:02Speaker 1: very very like agitated, like they're like, if you know
- 26:04Speaker 1: you don't get the two hundred question, you're not getting.
- 26:07Speaker 6: Like the thousand.
- 26:08Speaker 5: I would love if there is, Like I think they
- 26:10Speaker 5: used to do sports Jeopardy on like one of the
- 26:12Speaker 5: like you know, sports channels, and that that would be
- 26:15Speaker 5: Corese Stump.
- 26:16Speaker 1: My cousin was actually on Stump Stump the Schwab.
- 26:19Speaker 5: I wasn't old enough to be on it yet, but
- 26:21Speaker 5: that was like an old like sports trivia question show
- 26:24Speaker 5: on ESPN.
- 26:26Speaker 9: I would probably I have like three people I went
- 26:28Speaker 9: to high school at that win on Jeopardy.
- 26:31Speaker 1: It's a smart guys, a bunch of smock guys. So many,
- 26:33Speaker 1: so many people are so mad at us. All right,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna put the I'll put the fist down. We're
- 26:36Speaker 1: gonna stop the the reality show. I know, Matt, come on,
- 26:39Speaker 1: it's the off season. We gott and paul in fred
- 26:40Speaker 1: arn here. We gotta we gotta have a little we
- 26:41Speaker 1: gotta spread our wing.
- 26:42Speaker 6: Your voices dying, right, that voice is dying.
- 26:45Speaker 1: That's why we're gonna head over to the phones. But
- 26:46Speaker 1: please give us a call eight five five Pats five hundred,
- 26:49Speaker 1: shoot us an email, web radio at Patriots dot com.
- 26:52Speaker 1: And uh, our good friend William and Philim has been
- 26:55Speaker 1: waiting for a while. So hey, William, how's it going?
- 26:56Speaker 6: Man?
- 26:57Speaker 12: Hey, what's going on?
- 26:59Speaker 1: I'm I feel fine, but my voice is just it's
- 27:02Speaker 1: failing me right now. But I'll get by.
- 27:05Speaker 10: All right.
- 27:06Speaker 12: Hello to the ladies.
- 27:07Speaker 1: First, Hi, and two questions, ev one everybody else just see.
- 27:18Speaker 12: One question is basically, do you know about the wide
- 27:21Speaker 12: receiver from U S A name javarm Baker? Yeah, mm hmm, okay,
- 27:26Speaker 12: all right, they're saying he's supposed to be the sleeper
- 27:28Speaker 12: in the draft.
- 27:28Speaker 10: One.
- 27:30Speaker 5: There's a lot there's a lot of those guys that
- 27:32Speaker 5: you know, this is such a deep wide receiver class
- 27:35Speaker 5: that there's gonna be guys in like the fourth, fifth,
- 27:37Speaker 5: sixth round that don't get talked about a whole lot
- 27:40Speaker 5: in the pre draft process that are going to end
- 27:43Speaker 5: up being pretty good NFL players because of how deep
- 27:45Speaker 5: it is so guys like Javon Baker. I know the
- 27:47Speaker 5: kid at this at the Shrine Bowl had a huge week.
- 27:50Speaker 5: I can't remember the name off the top of my head.
- 27:51Speaker 5: Jalen Cross, No, what are the kid from Virginia, I
- 27:56Speaker 5: can't remember his name, had a good week.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Yeah. I think that all those players are draftable. The
- 28:01Speaker 1: little guy Washington was that? Yeah, MILEK Washington.
- 28:04Speaker 4: Yeah that's it. Yeah, he's good, little sucker.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Yep.
- 28:07Speaker 12: And my last my last question is so much well
- 28:11Speaker 12: he is a question. Your last show catches swaying too.
- 28:15Speaker 4: Yes.
- 28:15Speaker 12: For about twenty minutes, I was sitting here waiting for you.
- 28:18Speaker 1: And now I know, I know, I know, we have
- 28:20Speaker 1: to talk about the combine.
- 28:21Speaker 12: But okayum.
- 28:26Speaker 1: Are you kid?
- 28:28Speaker 5: I knew you would hang on for to call on
- 28:31Speaker 5: filter and we had to talk a little bit of combine.
- 28:33Speaker 1: He was saving you for me.
- 28:34Speaker 12: Okay, all right, okay, as long as you as long
- 28:37Speaker 12: as you see my I'm cool.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, good always now we love you.
- 28:40Speaker 6: Good.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Thanks.
- 28:41Speaker 6: So I want to talk about something with the draft,
- 28:42Speaker 6: because I always do. We do it, we do our
- 28:44Speaker 6: draft podcast. But no, so we were talking football here.
- 28:48Speaker 9: What I'm just waiting for a color to the like we.
- 28:51Speaker 6: Spend all this time talking about prospects, like you know,
- 28:54Speaker 6: we do the podcast and for example, do you ever
- 28:56Speaker 6: like go to a Wikipedia page and look the list
- 28:58Speaker 6: of players drafted and you spent so much and half
- 29:00Speaker 6: these dudes are busts, like and it's just like they
- 29:02Speaker 6: were more than half. Like they we talked about Devin Lloyd,
- 29:05Speaker 6: he was like an okay player. Like we spent so
- 29:08Speaker 6: much time being like, this is the guy that pashould take,
- 29:10Speaker 6: and like you you never hear from him again.
- 29:11Speaker 1: What's so funny about the draft? I think that's what
- 29:13Speaker 1: you love about the draft? And I mean it's I mean,
- 29:15Speaker 1: you know, we've been doing it for a long time,
- 29:17Speaker 1: like I mean, you know we go back to blogging days.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I mean it's like thirteen fourteen years. It's been like
- 29:21Speaker 1: going through every prospect. Hopefully we've learned something. But that's
- 29:25Speaker 1: what's so funny, and that's like the ultimate realization. Even
- 29:28Speaker 1: going back to twenty twenty one, was like, yeah, one
- 29:30Speaker 1: of these quarterbacks is gonna work out, just one and
- 29:32Speaker 1: like you spend all this time on like seven different guys,
- 29:34Speaker 1: like what do you want? Fields do you want? You know,
- 29:36Speaker 1: Drake maydo you know, you know, like you should like
- 29:38Speaker 1: it might be one guy.
- 29:40Speaker 9: We should have real estate in your mind that are
- 29:42Speaker 9: now just.
- 29:42Speaker 6: Like it's just like it doesn't like we spend so
- 29:44Speaker 6: much time to people deuces talking about Jake Bobo, like, oh,
- 29:48Speaker 6: that'd be funny. He's a local and now he's going off.
- 29:51Speaker 1: But meanwhile we're talking about the receivers.
- 29:52Speaker 6: I don't know, it's just it's just funny.
- 29:54Speaker 10: You should have a love his blonde lock draft like
- 29:58Speaker 10: blindly like stuff like that or something.
- 30:01Speaker 1: That's what felgrin Ma does. Oh yeah, I know. It's
- 30:04Speaker 1: it's insulting.
- 30:05Speaker 5: I listened to that every single year and literally scream
- 30:08Speaker 5: at the radio because of how insulted I am by
- 30:11Speaker 5: how little they know about the guys. Like I'm like,
- 30:14Speaker 5: you are literally paid to be on a sports radio
- 30:17Speaker 5: and you throw it dark and you hit and you're
- 30:20Speaker 5: like Drake May I, Oh, it's so frustrating when they
- 30:26Speaker 5: hit somebody and then in your head you're.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Like that's a good fit. Yeah yeah, like he's on
- 30:29Speaker 1: my back. I can't say anything right now.
- 30:31Speaker 5: Yeah, but I see it's like that's that's one hundred percent.
- 30:36Speaker 5: Like if you look at statistically about thirty to thirty
- 30:39Speaker 5: five percent of draft picks hit.
- 30:40Speaker 6: You could say mel kiper like a sports weathermen. He
- 30:42Speaker 6: gets paid to be wrong.
- 30:44Speaker 5: I mean milk Piper, you know, like that set the Trailblazer. Yeah, absolutely,
- 30:49Speaker 5: but his quarterback rankings have been off for like ten years.
- 30:52Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 30:53Speaker 1: But if he's talk fast enough, nobody knows. Yeah, yeah.
- 30:56Speaker 1: I Mean the thing I always compare it to is like,
- 30:58Speaker 1: imagine if you had to go around to bunch of
- 31:00Speaker 1: college seniors right now and predict who's going to like
- 31:02Speaker 1: be the best employee at your company, Like take the
- 31:05Speaker 1: football out of it, which is obviously brings it to
- 31:07Speaker 1: a whole other level, but even that is so hard
- 31:10Speaker 1: to project, like who's you know, who's going to become
- 31:12Speaker 1: a professional and understand what it takes to work and
- 31:15Speaker 1: you know and put an effort and you know, have
- 31:17Speaker 1: to work long hours or you know, maybe do things
- 31:19Speaker 1: you don't want to do. Like that's the biggest thing
- 31:21Speaker 1: that you can.
- 31:24Speaker 9: Don't want to work.
- 31:25Speaker 5: You can't you can't measure competitiveness, work ethic like those
- 31:29Speaker 5: types of things, and so often that's what it comes
- 31:32Speaker 5: down to, Like you can have the most talented prospect
- 31:35Speaker 5: in the world. You know, all guys, All these guys
- 31:37Speaker 5: have talent. That's why they're in the draft, Like, it
- 31:39Speaker 5: wouldn't be here if they didn't. But do they have
- 31:42Speaker 5: that killer instinct? Do they have that competitive fire? Do
- 31:45Speaker 5: they want to be great and not just say it? Like,
- 31:47Speaker 5: do they actually want to be great?
- 31:49Speaker 14: Like?
- 31:49Speaker 5: And those are things that you know, I think the
- 31:51Speaker 5: scouts get a little bit more of an opportunity to
- 31:54Speaker 5: be able to talk about those things with guys like
- 31:56Speaker 5: this and and study these guys and get to know
- 31:58Speaker 5: them as human beings because like half of the evaluations
- 32:02Speaker 5: happens on the field, but the other half is about
- 32:04Speaker 5: just who are these people?
- 32:06Speaker 10: I feel like the biggest thing to like test and
- 32:09Speaker 10: honestly be able to evaluate is like someone's ability to
- 32:12Speaker 10: fight through adversity. And I think up until like the
- 32:15Speaker 10: past few years when Alabama has now been challenged in
- 32:17Speaker 10: the SEC, Like, how are you supposed to evaluate someone's
- 32:20Speaker 10: ability to be able to do that when they go
- 32:23Speaker 10: twelve to thirteen to No, they never lose their entire career.
- 32:26Speaker 9: I mean, Trevor Lawrence is like a dream team too.
- 32:28Speaker 4: Yeah, It's like Trevor Lawrence, He's never lost as much
- 32:31Speaker 4: as he has until right now at the Jacks.
- 32:32Speaker 10: It's like, how do you evaluate someone's ability to like
- 32:35Speaker 10: bounce back back?
- 32:39Speaker 4: Do you evaluate that, yeah, someone has so good?
- 32:42Speaker 5: I think the problem is is that for a lot
- 32:44Speaker 5: of these guys, you know in the draft with nil
- 32:48Speaker 5: and the transfer portal, they all are coming from loaded offenses.
- 32:52Speaker 5: Like the only guy that really is coming from an
- 32:54Speaker 5: offense that wasn't is Drake may You know, you look
- 32:56Speaker 5: at Jayden Daniels like he's throwing to two first round
- 33:00Speaker 5: wide receivers like Milik Naghbor is going to be a
- 33:02Speaker 5: top five, top eight pick in the draft, Brian Thomas
- 33:05Speaker 5: junior and the or other receiver is going to be
- 33:07Speaker 5: a top twenty five pick in this.
- 33:08Speaker 4: But he's also facing good defenses in the SEC, which is.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Like, to an extent, the SEC had a little bit
- 33:13Speaker 1: of a down defenses existed in college football. But I
- 33:17Speaker 1: was gonna just I was gonna riff on Mac for
- 33:18Speaker 1: a second, just because you know, having written his profile
- 33:21Speaker 1: and you know, not a guy that had to stick
- 33:23Speaker 1: around and had to play on the practice squad.
- 33:25Speaker 6: For a while.
- 33:26Speaker 1: So framed a certain way, you could look at Mac
- 33:29Speaker 1: and say he hung around, he waited, he won the job,
- 33:32Speaker 1: he competed, he wanted to compete. I mean after we
- 33:35Speaker 1: drafted Mac, I was trumpeting him going from the National
- 33:38Speaker 1: Championship right to the Senior Bowl working out. You know,
- 33:42Speaker 1: had two pro days during COVID. You know, all those
- 33:45Speaker 1: things kind of point to like a guy who's like,
- 33:47Speaker 1: I'm not going to rest on my laurels. I'm going
- 33:48Speaker 1: to go out there and throw with everybody. I don't care.
- 33:50Speaker 1: I'm going to compete. And you know, all those signs
- 33:53Speaker 1: pointed great, But then you made the point. But he
- 33:54Speaker 1: was also playing with an all star team, so you can,
- 33:56Speaker 1: you know, point to that direction too.
- 33:58Speaker 9: So it's just it's sent to your point.
- 33:59Speaker 1: You see.
- 34:00Speaker 7: Yeah, he clearly is a very hard worker. He clearly
- 34:02Speaker 7: puts the time in. But sometimes it's that's not the intangibles,
- 34:06Speaker 7: you know.
- 34:06Speaker 1: And that's why I was gonna say his issue is talent.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Yeah, like like he Mac Jones is here at six am,
- 34:12Speaker 5: Like he's that guy that is is rolling in first
- 34:14Speaker 5: one in, last one out, putting in all of the work.
- 34:17Speaker 1: Mac Jones is just not talented enough.
- 34:19Speaker 10: And that I mean and even before like c de Stroud,
- 34:23Speaker 10: same thing with their house state, Like there have been
- 34:25Speaker 10: such a great program with great quarterbacks.
- 34:27Speaker 4: They've all gone to the national championship.
- 34:28Speaker 1: But like why is he different? Why is he Why
- 34:32Speaker 1: is he the one that hit because he failed the test?
- 34:36Speaker 1: But I mean I was even gonna say something like,
- 34:37Speaker 1: you know, to Evan's point, when they have in the
- 34:40Speaker 1: at the comboine, sometimes they'll have like a like a
- 34:42Speaker 1: little basketball hoop, shut up, set up, and they'll like
- 34:44Speaker 1: have the guy like artlet's like horse right now, Like
- 34:46Speaker 1: things like that that like show you like the tom
- 34:49Speaker 1: Brady's of the world would be like let's go and
- 34:51Speaker 1: would be bys if they didn't win, and like.
- 34:54Speaker 9: Even chugging a beer competitive And.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Those people are so annoying in real life, right, Like
- 34:58Speaker 1: everybody hates that guy that you're like, we're just playing
- 35:00Speaker 1: like tik tac toe. You don't have to throw the
- 35:02Speaker 1: card across the table. But those are the guys that
- 35:04Speaker 1: succeed in the NFL, the guys that all feel absolutely
- 35:07Speaker 1: obsessed with winning, and it's it stinks in real life,
- 35:10Speaker 1: but that's what you need to be those guys. And
- 35:12Speaker 1: I mean I think a lot of them have that.
- 35:14Speaker 1: But like you said, Evan and I mean I said
- 35:16Speaker 1: it last year. I think about Mac where it was
- 35:18Speaker 1: like can you work yourself into a star, Like if
- 35:20Speaker 1: you work hard enough, but you don't have that much talent?
- 35:23Speaker 1: Is there enough hard work? And I think that was
- 35:25Speaker 1: some of the false narrative on Tom Brady, that like
- 35:27Speaker 1: he wasn't that talented and that he just worked hard
- 35:29Speaker 1: and had the belt check and you know, was able
- 35:31Speaker 1: to kind of grow, but system talented, Like he was
- 35:34Speaker 1: really talented.
- 35:34Speaker 5: And really I think we're getting to the point though
- 35:36Speaker 5: with like these modern athletes where I don't know if
- 35:39Speaker 5: like a Tom Brady not that obviously from a resume standpoint,
- 35:42Speaker 5: that Tom Brady's never gonna exist again. But like I
- 35:45Speaker 5: don't even think Patrick Mahomes is really wired like Tom
- 35:48Speaker 5: Brady is. I just think he's that good. Yeah, you know,
- 35:50Speaker 5: like I just think that that's that's the way it is.
- 35:53Speaker 5: And like I think it's maybe more prevalent in like
- 35:55Speaker 5: the NBA currently than the NFL, But I think the
- 35:58Speaker 5: NFL is starting to get there where a lot of
- 36:00Speaker 5: these guys like it's it is not and it's not
- 36:04Speaker 5: the Tom Brady end all be all, but they're just
- 36:06Speaker 5: so talented.
- 36:07Speaker 1: That they end up winning. You know, I saw the
- 36:10Speaker 1: question phrase differently. I mean, and not to get into
- 36:12Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes of it all, you know, because everybody when
- 36:14Speaker 1: we talked about syste woyining, do you instantly have to
- 36:16Speaker 1: like stack him up in history as to where he
- 36:18Speaker 1: is now? But I kind of liked it better phrased
- 36:20Speaker 1: as is Patrick Mahomes playing the quarterback position right now
- 36:24Speaker 1: better than anyone else ever has without having to get
- 36:27Speaker 1: into like history and all that. Like, is that an
- 36:30Speaker 1: argument to be made? And I kind of think it
- 36:32Speaker 1: might be.
- 36:33Speaker 5: I think he's the most talented, physically talented and gifted
- 36:37Speaker 5: quarterback maybe ever. I still think that Brady probably had
- 36:41Speaker 5: seasons and stretches that were equal in terms of like
- 36:44Speaker 5: what he actually was putting on sevens. Yeah, but I
- 36:47Speaker 5: think that you know, Mahomes, his ability to move around
- 36:51Speaker 5: and throw the ball out of structure and the arm
- 36:53Speaker 5: talent and all that stuff. I mean, he's just better
- 36:56Speaker 5: at those things than Tom Brady. But it doesn't mean
- 36:58Speaker 5: he's better.
- 36:59Speaker 6: It's interest because I want to see you with Mahomes,
- 37:01Speaker 6: Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson, and like Mahomes, he wants
- 37:04Speaker 6: to stop now he can and he'll be up there,
- 37:06Speaker 6: but I want to see what they do when they
- 37:08Speaker 6: reached the thirty three year old, like Josh Allen, Is
- 37:11Speaker 6: Josh Allen going to be trucking people at thirty three?
- 37:13Speaker 6: Like is like you know what I mean? So I
- 37:15Speaker 6: want to I wonder if.
- 37:16Speaker 7: Mahomes has like his own Alex Guero like ye deal
- 37:20Speaker 7: with and imagine if he did, Like imagine.
- 37:23Speaker 1: If he was I mean like not to like be
- 37:26Speaker 1: like a body shamer, but like he's he's.
- 37:28Speaker 10: Really not in deli in his life is in way
- 37:32Speaker 10: better share hit the picture of him with like no
- 37:35Speaker 10: shirt on, I think from either parade or like.
- 37:37Speaker 6: At the Super Bowl AFC Championship.
- 37:39Speaker 4: I think it was giving mac Jones like it was.
- 37:42Speaker 5: I was like, oh, that's to be fair. Like Brady
- 37:46Speaker 5: wasn't like you know, like TV twelve Brady until later on.
- 37:51Speaker 5: Uh you know when he first started he was, I
- 37:54Speaker 5: mean you remember the combine photo, like he was he
- 37:56Speaker 5: was not any in any great shape. That that kind
- 37:59Speaker 5: of happened when it did get into the longevity thing
- 38:01Speaker 5: of like how am I going to do this for?
- 38:03Speaker 5: You know, as long as I want to do it for.
- 38:05Speaker 5: And that's when Alex Guerrero and the TV twelve method
- 38:08Speaker 5: and like all that stuff.
- 38:09Speaker 7: But he was so ahead of the curve on all
- 38:11Speaker 7: that stuff because I remember we would hear about Tom's
- 38:13Speaker 7: diet and his just his regimens in general, and people
- 38:16Speaker 7: were like, how are you living a life like that?
- 38:19Speaker 9: Like that's insane? But now it's like in Vogue all
- 38:22Speaker 9: the biohacking he's doing, like it's the new cool thing.
- 38:25Speaker 1: Oh, Zempe lost me biohacking. But it's just it sounds
- 38:30Speaker 1: crazy to think about. But just I mean, you think
- 38:32Speaker 1: about Mahomes dominating in twenty thirty six, and that's like,
- 38:36Speaker 1: like that just sounds like a lifetime away, and to
- 38:39Speaker 1: imagine that to continue like it did with Brady. I
- 38:42Speaker 1: just I think we all know though, how hard it
- 38:44Speaker 1: is to just you know, like you just have dips.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Like there's years that Mames might have an injury, he might,
- 38:49Speaker 1: you know. I mean, I don't want to about this
- 38:51Speaker 1: about Brady.
- 38:52Speaker 6: No, but but stuff happens, like like Josh allens to
- 38:55Speaker 6: hit away from Ruiny to Bill's season.
- 38:57Speaker 5: Is you never know, Andy Read's older than Bill. Yeah,
- 39:01Speaker 5: so like Andy Read's not going to be his coach forever.
- 39:03Speaker 1: So what happened. Is he going to be like Bill
- 39:06Speaker 1: Walash to George you know, was it George Seffert?
- 39:08Speaker 4: Right?
- 39:08Speaker 1: They get that right?
- 39:09Speaker 5: Is that going to be like the transition and it's
- 39:11Speaker 5: gonna be you know, not seamless, but like he's still
- 39:14Speaker 5: gonna be good enough to keep winning or does it.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Become what a lot of Patriots fans will argue it
- 39:18Speaker 1: became that it was all kind of Tom without Bill
- 39:20Speaker 1: at the end, you know, like Tom didn't really need
- 39:22Speaker 1: Bill at the end.
- 39:22Speaker 5: That Travis Kelsey's thirty four. Yeah, like he's he's gonna
- 39:27Speaker 5: be done soon.
- 39:28Speaker 10: I do wonder since they won if he's he might
- 39:30Speaker 10: just call it quits and be like, oh, this was
- 39:32Speaker 10: great to the swift season like Australia.
- 39:35Speaker 4: Now.
- 39:35Speaker 9: I think he was on the record. I think he
- 39:36Speaker 9: said that he wants to go as long as he can.
- 39:39Speaker 1: Okay, It's it's interesting to me. It's just it's kind
- 39:41Speaker 1: of like a David Andrews thing of like what the
- 39:43Speaker 1: will to continue to compete after you won championships and
- 39:46Speaker 1: to take the punishment and the work that's required you
- 39:50Speaker 1: know at this like we know what it takes for
- 39:51Speaker 1: these guys. It's crazy, like I don't know. I just
- 39:54Speaker 1: have a lot of respect, especially a guy like David
- 39:55Speaker 1: Andrews who just kind of keeps doing it. Yeah, let's
- 39:58Speaker 1: jump over to the phones here, because the fans are
- 40:00Speaker 1: absolutely stacked. Start with Todd in North Carolina. Haye, Toddy, guys,
- 40:07Speaker 1: how you doing Hi? Hello? What we're doing?
- 40:09Speaker 4: Good?
- 40:11Speaker 15: Okay. The first one is simply put, did you guys
- 40:16Speaker 15: really listen to ESPN when they said that mister Belichick
- 40:20Speaker 15: are a good coach kind of lost contact with the people,
- 40:22Speaker 15: like you just couldn't find leaders. And he couldn't be
- 40:25Speaker 15: the leader for these young guys because he just couldn't
- 40:27Speaker 15: connect with them. And the other thing is kind of
- 40:29Speaker 15: a game. The Patriots will be over five hundred because
- 40:33Speaker 15: or the Patriots will be under five hundred because just
- 40:37Speaker 15: answer those things and that's all I got, thanks, guys.
- 40:42Speaker 1: Patriots will be under five hundred because they just don't
- 40:44Speaker 1: have enough talent yet. On the offensive side of the ball.
- 40:47Speaker 6: The Patriots will be under five hundred because Mac john
- 40:49Speaker 6: is still the quarterback.
- 40:52Speaker 5: I think those are saying the same things, and I
- 40:54Speaker 5: would go with you, guys, Yeah, under five hundred, over
- 40:57Speaker 5: five hundred. Jaden Daniels is awesome, or Drake may is awesome.
- 41:02Speaker 9: Yeah, that would be the end up with a quarterback
- 41:06Speaker 9: that just really moves the needles and Marvin Harris.
- 41:10Speaker 4: Over five hundred.
- 41:11Speaker 9: Yeah, exactly, who's throwing that.
- 41:12Speaker 4: Over five hundred? Because they do just enough to win,
- 41:16Speaker 4: not blowing anybody away, but just enough to win.
- 41:19Speaker 6: I like it, Steelers did I did sneak.
- 41:21Speaker 1: I didn't hear the first part about.
- 41:25Speaker 6: Losing contact with people in the buildings.
- 41:27Speaker 5: Yeah, No, I think he was saying that, you know,
- 41:28Speaker 5: the whole Belichick can't connect younger players anymore, and that
- 41:32Speaker 5: that sort of thing. I don't know, like, I don't
- 41:34Speaker 5: think it's like a personality like they Belichick is, you know,
- 41:39Speaker 5: we can't be buddies, you know what I mean. I
- 41:40Speaker 5: think it's more about like the way the program was run,
- 41:43Speaker 5: Like he ran a very very tight ship that was
- 41:47Speaker 5: very hard to be a player here, and I just
- 41:49Speaker 5: don't think the modern athlete necessarily wants it to be
- 41:53Speaker 5: that way anymore these days.
- 41:56Speaker 1: So it feels a lot different. I mean, it's I
- 41:58Speaker 1: kind of knew it was what, you know, what would happen,
- 42:00Speaker 1: but I just I think until you experience it, it's
- 42:02Speaker 1: it's kind of hard to really fully grasp, like how
- 42:05Speaker 1: different it is to have a new head coach come
- 42:07Speaker 1: into an organization and how many things just change. And
- 42:11Speaker 1: I'm sure there's one hundred things that have changed that
- 42:13Speaker 1: we have no concept of or no idea what what
- 42:15Speaker 1: have changed. But even just the small glimpses that we've
- 42:17Speaker 1: got from Gerard, from some of the coaches, I mean,
- 42:20Speaker 1: it's just you can understand why young players would want
- 42:24Speaker 1: to play for these guys, and you know, so to
- 42:26Speaker 1: that to that idea, you see the direction they're going
- 42:29Speaker 1: with some of these guys. But it's just a it's
- 42:32Speaker 1: a really likable staff, you know, And that's it's different
- 42:34Speaker 1: because you just I always felt at arm's length from everybody,
- 42:37Speaker 1: and here we are in February, and I don't want
- 42:39Speaker 1: to say that we're going to be any closer than
- 42:40Speaker 1: that this year, but it was just nice to get
- 42:43Speaker 1: to see these guys kind of as people first.
- 42:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I think, you know, there's just like a couple examples,
- 42:48Speaker 5: you know. Trent Brown brought up I think in the
- 42:50Speaker 5: interview who did with Nesson at the time about like
- 42:53Speaker 5: the schedule and how the players wouldn't find out the
- 42:56Speaker 5: schedule for the next day until like six o'clock the
- 42:59Speaker 5: day the night before, and they would all just be
- 43:02Speaker 5: waiting around for the schedule, whereas other teams the schedule
- 43:06Speaker 5: for like the entire month might already be.
- 43:09Speaker 6: Every day.
- 43:10Speaker 5: And you know, he said that they weren't sure about
- 43:12Speaker 5: the schedule for the bye week, and a lot of
- 43:14Speaker 5: times in the bye week, guys, you know, go on vacation,
- 43:16Speaker 5: take time off, spend time with their families, and they
- 43:19Speaker 5: weren't able to make plans for the bye week. And
- 43:21Speaker 5: I know that that sounds ridiculous, like you should be
- 43:23Speaker 5: focused on winning, you know, or whatever, but that that's
- 43:26Speaker 5: the sort of you know, like life stuff that just
- 43:29Speaker 5: was coming up. And I think the other thing, you know,
- 43:31Speaker 5: I was there and Duce you were in Green Bay.
- 43:34Speaker 5: The back to back joint practices on the road that
- 43:37Speaker 5: they had originally scheduled was crazy, Like that was absolutely insane,
- 43:43Speaker 5: and the players.
- 43:44Speaker 1: Were like did not want to do it.
- 43:46Speaker 5: It was just very clear talking to some of those
- 43:49Speaker 5: guys that they were kind of pissed that they were
- 43:51Speaker 5: going to be away from their families for like almost
- 43:54Speaker 5: two full weeks. And I understand that some people think
- 43:57Speaker 5: that they shouldn't care about you know, they all should
- 43:59Speaker 5: be one mind track towards winning and all that stuff.
- 44:02Speaker 1: But it's just like the culture stuff. It's the you know, workplace.
- 44:06Speaker 1: It's worth just real quick, sorry, it's worth highlighting though,
- 44:08Speaker 1: Like you're talking about like people with families, like these
- 44:10Speaker 1: are older players. I mean we're also talking about like
- 44:12Speaker 1: you know, trouble connecting with the younger kids that don't
- 44:15Speaker 1: really have families that really shouldn't have a problem, but
- 44:17Speaker 1: it just kind of shows like how those policies kind
- 44:20Speaker 1: of impacted everyone across the roster, from young guys to
- 44:23Speaker 1: older guys with families.
- 44:24Speaker 10: I think that there's like I feel like there's so
- 44:26Speaker 10: much you saw so much value and importance. You can
- 44:29Speaker 10: see so much value importance in that when you have
- 44:32Speaker 10: that ability to get the actual break that you need
- 44:35Speaker 10: during a bike because you have the schedule. So who
- 44:37Speaker 10: knows the value that they could have had if they
- 44:40Speaker 10: were able to actually go back home and see family,
- 44:43Speaker 10: go on a trip whatever, or even like you mentioned
- 44:46Speaker 10: the joint practices or even not do that, like even
- 44:49Speaker 10: just like have a joint practice here or have both
- 44:51Speaker 10: of them here.
- 44:52Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 44:52Speaker 5: I think like, yeah, I think it was the Yeah,
- 44:54Speaker 5: having the joint practice in Green Bay, I don't think
- 44:56Speaker 5: was a problem. But I don't want to name any names,
- 44:59Speaker 5: but like I we talk to a lot of guys
- 45:01Speaker 5: and they were like, are you staying with us for
- 45:03Speaker 5: the whole time too?
- 45:04Speaker 1: Liked like rolling their.
- 45:05Speaker 5: Eyes, like oh, like this stinks right, and like I
- 45:08Speaker 5: wasn't even practicing, so like to imagine like putting your
- 45:12Speaker 5: body into that situation and then also on top of it,
- 45:15Speaker 5: not really want to be there at August.
- 45:17Speaker 6: You talk about two weeks when you got eighteen weeks right.
- 45:21Speaker 13: Getting started and already want to go home years ago
- 45:26Speaker 13: in Vegas, like yeah, And I think that they look
- 45:28Speaker 13: at that, and they look at the schedule too, like
- 45:30Speaker 13: we have this, we have Germany this year, like we
- 45:33Speaker 13: have all these like longer trips, and like that I
- 45:36Speaker 13: think makes it makes an impact.
- 45:38Speaker 1: Let's bank some more calls out here, Patty and Patty,
- 45:41Speaker 1: how do you remember?
- 45:43Speaker 16: Hey, guys, I'll make it quick because I know my
- 45:45Speaker 16: phone sucks going on, young and handsome.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Dude, Oh thank you.
- 45:50Speaker 16: Just got a quick question about Mike and and that
- 45:53Speaker 16: is do you think they try and bring him back
- 45:56Speaker 16: with the expectation of him playing right tackle because I'm
- 45:59Speaker 16: sort of bum all side of the street when it
- 46:01Speaker 16: comes to offensive lineman. Regarding if he wants to come
- 46:04Speaker 16: back and play right guard, I just say, you know,
- 46:07Speaker 16: go with one of the young guys or see if
- 46:08Speaker 16: he could still the position and later on in the draft,
- 46:10Speaker 16: because I mean, he was a sixth round draft pick
- 46:13Speaker 16: and hopefully, like I want it back, but I want
- 46:15Speaker 16: to back playing the right tackle and I just want
- 46:17Speaker 16: to get your guys opinion on that. That's all I got.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I appreciate it. It's an interesting conversation.
- 46:24Speaker 5: And if they end up using the not using the
- 46:26Speaker 5: franchise tag on anybody, then maybe it's not. But if
- 46:29Speaker 5: they end up using the franchise tag on Kyle Duggar
- 46:32Speaker 5: over Mike on Winn, who, I do think that that
- 46:34Speaker 5: tells you what this coaching staff and this scheme thinks
- 46:37Speaker 5: of a three forty pound offensive lineman that might not
- 46:42Speaker 5: be the best skill set in certain in terms of
- 46:44Speaker 5: what they want to do.
- 46:45Speaker 1: I'm so torn because I kind of feel like, when
- 46:48Speaker 1: you I think he's a very good player, I just don't,
- 46:51Speaker 1: you know, I kind of see city so and say, look,
- 46:53Speaker 1: let's just let's not overinvest in the offensive line right now,
- 46:57Speaker 1: let's just can try to continue to spread those resources around.
- 46:59Speaker 1: But the same time, I can't say that and not
- 47:02Speaker 1: acknowledge that I've been a very big critic that they
- 47:04Speaker 1: haven't retained their own players. And so even though I
- 47:07Speaker 1: think Michael Minu and Kyle Duggar and josh u Ja
- 47:10Speaker 1: and even Jennings a little bit, you know, they all
- 47:11Speaker 1: have their kind of warts. They're not perfect players, but
- 47:14Speaker 1: there are players We've already put a lot of time
- 47:16Speaker 1: in them. So I think that there is value to
- 47:18Speaker 1: saying they're not perfect, but retain them. So you send
- 47:21Speaker 1: a message to the locker room that we're going to
- 47:23Speaker 1: bring our players in. If you come here, you work hard,
- 47:25Speaker 1: you play hard for us, We're going to keep you
- 47:27Speaker 1: in the building, and we're gonna start to rebuild this
- 47:29Speaker 1: leadership structure that, let's face it, took a big blow
- 47:31Speaker 1: this week with Matthew Slater and Lawrence Guy departing and
- 47:33Speaker 1: even Adrian.
- 47:34Speaker 5: For Yes, I think that there's like something to be
- 47:36Speaker 5: said there too, of like giving Christian Barmore an extension up, like,
- 47:39Speaker 5: you know, sending those messages. I think that all out
- 47:42Speaker 5: you get rewarded, right, and it comes back to Mac Jones.
- 47:44Speaker 5: Like that's why I just can't wrap my head around
- 47:46Speaker 5: Mac Jones being here, because what does that tell the
- 47:49Speaker 5: other fifty two guys in the locker room. But I
- 47:52Speaker 5: can't believe like people look at their offensive line play
- 47:55Speaker 5: over the last couple of years and they're like it
- 47:56Speaker 5: doesn't matter, Like I just not to like pick on
- 47:59Speaker 5: Paul when he's not here, but like, I just that
- 48:01Speaker 5: just blows my mind that you can watch how horrible
- 48:04Speaker 5: they have been on the offensive line for two years
- 48:07Speaker 5: and then think that we can just draft some guy
- 48:09Speaker 5: in the sixth round and everything's gonna be fine, Like
- 48:11Speaker 5: we don't have to put value into that.
- 48:13Speaker 1: It's mind blowing.
- 48:14Speaker 10: The Lions, I think, are a good example of what
- 48:17Speaker 10: an offensive line did for them. Like they wouldn't have
- 48:20Speaker 10: gotten as far as they did without that brick wall
- 48:23Speaker 10: for their quarterback. Like obviously, you know they have great receivers.
- 48:25Speaker 10: I'm not going to diminish that, but I think their often, yeah,
- 48:28Speaker 10: their offensive line was huge for them.
- 48:31Speaker 1: So they hit on Am and Ross Saint Brown, you
- 48:33Speaker 1: know late round pick who's a you know, chainover kind
- 48:35Speaker 1: of a guy. And I mean it is a model
- 48:37Speaker 1: to consider, and I mean maybe something you know, I
- 48:40Speaker 1: don't know if I would ask.
- 48:40Speaker 6: You, do they have anool that well just funny because
- 48:43Speaker 6: like the Bengals Super Bowl, like Jamar Chase, Joe Burrow's
- 48:47Speaker 6: gain attack. Yeah, it was like.
- 48:50Speaker 5: Even the Niners just now, like you know, the Niners,
- 48:52Speaker 5: their offensive line outside of Trent Williams is kind of
- 48:55Speaker 5: falling apart, and it's probably their biggest need this offseason
- 48:58Speaker 5: is addressing that. And they they they couldn't complete passes
- 49:02Speaker 5: because brock perty is getting killed, like you know, they're
- 49:04Speaker 5: buzzing and they're not picking it up and things like that.
- 49:06Speaker 5: And I just I don't understand how we can like
- 49:09Speaker 5: watch what happened to mac Jones, watch him deteriorate and
- 49:12Speaker 5: like turn into a shell because of the pressure, and
- 49:15Speaker 5: then not like sit here and say, oh, don't worry,
- 49:17Speaker 5: like Jayden Daniels will be fine if we don't have
- 49:19Speaker 5: any offensive linemen.
- 49:21Speaker 1: It's fine, Joel, you are a New England Patriot.
- 49:24Speaker 4: Love that.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Jimmy and Connecticut. Hey, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy, are you there?
- 49:33Speaker 6: Three? Two one? Smell you all right?
- 49:36Speaker 1: Smell you sorry. Jimmy, here's the guy that's sidelined. Jimmy,
- 49:41Speaker 1: I'm going down to speed in Fresno. Speed yo.
- 49:44Speaker 4: Uh.
- 49:44Speaker 17: The Patriots finish under five hundred because Alex Champel's builds
- 49:49Speaker 17: an offense too much cater to like the skills of
- 49:52Speaker 17: the players rather than coming to the table with his
- 49:54Speaker 17: own sort of clear scheme strategy, and it just seems
- 49:59Speaker 17: like a little weird in his press conference when he
- 50:01Speaker 17: was saying, Hey, I don't know what our offense is
- 50:04Speaker 17: going to look like I'm paraphrasing there, but you guys
- 50:07Speaker 17: find that a little bit kind of odd or No.
- 50:08Speaker 1: I think he's full of it.
- 50:11Speaker 7: I think it was like coach speak to an extent,
- 50:13Speaker 7: but also like that's more draft a quarterback that's a runner,
- 50:17Speaker 7: Like then, yeah, yeah, don't you're going to tiller it
- 50:19Speaker 7: that way.
- 50:19Speaker 1: I don't think the options are so wide that he's like,
- 50:21Speaker 1: we might take a supermobile quarterback who can't throw, we
- 50:23Speaker 1: might take a pocket passer. Like there's definitely something they
- 50:26Speaker 1: like and they want, but I just I don't think
- 50:28Speaker 1: they're sure that they can get it, so they can't
- 50:30Speaker 1: really say, not that they would say anyway.
- 50:31Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean, they don't have personnel control at
- 50:33Speaker 5: the end of the day, so they can't sit there
- 50:34Speaker 5: and say, you know, this is what we need. But
- 50:36Speaker 5: you know, Alex and I are talking about this on
- 50:38Speaker 5: catch twenty two, and one of the quotes that stood
- 50:40Speaker 5: out to Alex was sort of what Spee is talking about,
- 50:43Speaker 5: where Van Pelt was saying, you know, schemes are only
- 50:46Speaker 5: so good. You have to have the players and you
- 50:48Speaker 5: have to be you know, versatile, And I'm like, no,
- 50:50Speaker 5: I don't want you to say that. I want you
- 50:52Speaker 5: to say to Elliott Wolf, this is my scheme. These
- 50:55Speaker 5: are the players that I need. Get me these players
- 50:58Speaker 5: and will be good. I don't want Elliott Wolf to
- 51:00Speaker 5: be handing him Jayden Daniels. And then Alex man pelp
- 51:03Speaker 5: being like I don't know what to do with this,
- 51:05Speaker 5: Like I like, why didn't you ask me?
- 51:06Speaker 13: Right?
- 51:07Speaker 5: Like what's the point of that? Like where is that
- 51:09Speaker 5: going to get anybody? It's going to get both of
- 51:11Speaker 5: them fired, frankly, is what it's.
- 51:12Speaker 1: Going to do. Evan.
- 51:14Speaker 17: Do you think that in the this new, brave, new
- 51:17Speaker 17: world of collaboration with the large coaching staff, that that
- 51:22Speaker 17: maybe Alex van Pelt's preferences, making them known in an
- 51:26Speaker 17: assertive way becomes a little bit more difficult because everybody's
- 51:29Speaker 17: got to work together. Kumbaya.
- 51:31Speaker 5: I don't think there's as much collaboration as what people
- 51:34Speaker 5: are leading on. I think that that's a nice corporate
- 51:39Speaker 5: buzzword to put out there and have everybody, you know,
- 51:42Speaker 5: sing kumbay on. Make that the vision or the I mean,
- 51:45Speaker 5: the the outward facing like vision of the team is
- 51:48Speaker 5: that we're going to be collaborative. I don't think at
- 51:52Speaker 5: the end of the day that it's going to be
- 51:56Speaker 5: as much of that.
- 51:57Speaker 9: Yeah, like they're not going.
- 51:57Speaker 2: To take.
- 52:00Speaker 17: These evan hot takes. It's just like there's not a
- 52:02Speaker 17: lot of collaboration as much as they're saying. And Alice
- 52:05Speaker 17: van Pelt actually has a clear offensive image for what's
- 52:08Speaker 17: going to happen.
- 52:09Speaker 16: I like it.
- 52:10Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know.
- 52:11Speaker 5: I don't know about van Pelt still like he still
- 52:15Speaker 5: needs to prove it to me. But I think the
- 52:18Speaker 5: two people making the decisions in the building right now
- 52:20Speaker 5: are Girodmeo and Elliot Wolf, and I think everybody else
- 52:23Speaker 5: is kind of just falling in line below that mass
- 52:26Speaker 5: tas kind of works right.
- 52:27Speaker 1: Yeah, thanks b appreciate the call. We got one more.
- 52:31Speaker 1: We got Boston Cream calling in right now, and yeah,
- 52:33Speaker 1: hopefully Alex's hair is looking good today because what happened
- 52:36Speaker 1: last time? Hey, Boston Cream, how's your donut day going?
- 52:39Speaker 13: What's up? Guys?
- 52:40Speaker 18: I feel like we got a little bit of we're
- 52:43Speaker 18: on to Cincinnati moment for Alex hair, Alice's hair. Look
- 52:46Speaker 18: at the volume, look at the curl, look at the
- 52:48Speaker 18: color that's right there.
- 52:51Speaker 9: Thanks.
- 52:52Speaker 4: I think.
- 52:56Speaker 18: Today marks one hundred and ninety six days until patriot
- 53:00Speaker 18: its first game. Do you guys know who is drafted
- 53:03Speaker 18: one hundred and ninety six?
- 53:04Speaker 5: So brawl, I'll leave it at that, all right, we'll
- 53:08Speaker 5: well it ever or like a specific year like we're
- 53:11Speaker 5: just I don't know.
- 53:13Speaker 6: It's a lot of one ninety six.
- 53:16Speaker 1: I mean, Brady, that's all I know. Yeah, so that's
- 53:19Speaker 1: not one ninety six. That's the only pick I pay
- 53:20Speaker 1: attention to. Yah, all right, Cream, you got it. You're
- 53:22Speaker 1: gonna have to text us or email us and let
- 53:24Speaker 1: us know what the answer to that one was. That
- 53:26Speaker 1: maybe Paul would have known any men, but.
- 53:28Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 53:28Speaker 1: I don't know. I expected hire. All right, nobody's lunch
- 53:31Speaker 1: is here, So we're gonna take a little break in
- 53:32Speaker 1: honor of Paul when he would eat his lunch. So
- 53:35Speaker 1: I'm gonna do a quick.
- 53:36Speaker 6: Jose one hundred and ninety six pick from the bus.
- 53:39Speaker 3: Oh there we go.
- 53:39Speaker 6: Oh that's right.

- 54:22Speaker 8: As I think back over the past few seasons, I
- 54:25Speaker 8: wanted to thank my most trusted Game Day teammate, Toastitos
- 54:30Speaker 8: as I recall the last minute grocery runs in late
- 54:34Speaker 8: night dishwashing, the salty defeats and spicy victories. I realize
- 54:40Speaker 8: it was all thanks to my teammate, Toastitos. It was
- 54:44Speaker 8: always you Toastedos. Team up with Toastedos, the official chip
- 54:50Speaker 8: and dip of the New England Patriots.
- 54:52Speaker 11: What's up everybody?
- 54:54Speaker 8: Yesterday, head coach Geron Mayo introduced his coordinators to the media.
- 54:58Speaker 6: Let's have a listener. What you had to say.
- 55:02Speaker 19: I feel like I haven't seen you guys in a while.
- 55:04Speaker 19: I think it was in January. It's really the last
- 55:06Speaker 19: time I got a chance to speak with you guys.
- 55:09Speaker 19: I appreciate first of all, you guys coming down. I
- 55:11Speaker 19: know there are a lot of unknowns right now, whether
- 55:15Speaker 19: we're talking about the draft or free agency, but today
- 55:17Speaker 19: is really about the new coaches, and you know, we'll
- 55:21Speaker 19: have our coordinators up here to kind of speak to
- 55:23Speaker 19: you guys. And I don't know if Stacey told you guys,
- 55:26Speaker 19: but afterwards, the rest of our new coaches. I think
- 55:28Speaker 19: we have seventeen new coaches. They will come down and
- 55:31Speaker 19: hopefully we'll get a chance to really vibe and connect.
- 55:35Speaker 19: They know that, you know, our relationship with the media
- 55:38Speaker 19: is very important. Stacy and Aaron have done a good
- 55:40Speaker 19: job explaining it to those guys. But at the same time,
- 55:43Speaker 19: I think there needs to be a good relationship between
- 55:46Speaker 19: the two groups and hopefully, look, I'll try to make
- 55:49Speaker 19: myself available as much as possible. But at the same time,
- 55:52Speaker 19: today is really just about the new coaches and the coordinators.
- 56:00Speaker 20: Process it's like for you and how happy are you?
- 56:04Speaker 3: Yeah? The process? Uh, it was definitely a learning experience.
- 56:08Speaker 19: I've interviewed people in the past before for other jobs,
- 56:11Speaker 19: but this one was a little bit different. But it
- 56:13Speaker 19: was it was exciting and I felt like I learned
- 56:15Speaker 19: a lot. I learned a lot from the coaches that
- 56:18Speaker 19: came in an interviewed that didn't get hired. Hopefully they
- 56:21Speaker 19: had a good sense of what we're trying to build here.
- 56:24Speaker 3: But it was it was good. It was good.
- 56:26Speaker 20: I had this job now for a month, month and
- 56:28Speaker 20: a half.
- 56:28Speaker 1: What's been the biggest surprise for you?
- 56:31Speaker 19: The biggest surprise for me really has been the lack
- 56:33Speaker 19: of true football tape. I had an opportunity to watch
- 56:36Speaker 19: right now as a head coach, it's kind of a
- 56:39Speaker 19: little bit different right now, we're trying to continue to
- 56:42Speaker 19: you know, nail down the rest of the staff and
- 56:44Speaker 19: also get into some of the things we want to
- 56:46Speaker 19: do in the near future.
- 56:49Speaker 20: Things from the coaches you didn't hire.
- 56:50Speaker 3: What were a couple of those things.
- 56:53Speaker 19: I mean, I don't want to get into ex's and
- 56:54Speaker 19: o's honestly, not today. But it was it was mainly
- 56:58Speaker 19: about x's and o's and how those guys their leadership,
- 57:00Speaker 19: philosophies and and things like that. It wasn't it wasn't
- 57:04Speaker 19: anything like groundbreaking, but at the same time, there were
- 57:06Speaker 19: little nuggets that I took away.
- 57:10Speaker 3: How it was to ask some of the education experience,
- 57:15Speaker 3: it was very important.
- 57:16Speaker 19: It was very important for me to have someone that
- 57:18Speaker 19: I can bounce questions off of that's actually sat in
- 57:21Speaker 19: that seat. Uh, it's been great. And honestly, I have
- 57:24Speaker 19: relationships with coaches around the league as well that have
- 57:28Speaker 19: offered to help.
- 57:28Speaker 3: You know, they're not in the AFC, so that's a
- 57:31Speaker 3: that's a good thing.
- 57:33Speaker 21: You interviewed several candidates for offensive coordinator. What did you
- 57:36Speaker 21: like about Vin Heel and I guess Benda.
- 57:38Speaker 2: Can do as well.
- 57:39Speaker 19: Yeah, you know, you know, a VP, I'm not exactly
- 57:42Speaker 19: sure and I don't want to get into what happened
- 57:44Speaker 19: at Cleveland, but all the people that I talked to,
- 57:47Speaker 19: they speak very highly of a VP. Obviously he understands
- 57:51Speaker 19: the exits and nose of the game, but also developing talent.
- 57:54Speaker 19: And really he is a relationship guy, which I fundamentally
- 57:58Speaker 19: believe is very important. Uh before you really get into
- 58:01Speaker 19: exits and those with the guys on the field, they
- 58:04Speaker 19: got to know that you care about him. And one
- 58:05Speaker 19: thing about a VP, which you guys will see here shortly.
- 58:08Speaker 19: He is a people person but also with an extensive
- 58:10Speaker 19: knowledge of football.
- 58:11Speaker 1: Tried to go off of that.
- 58:12Speaker 14: That offensive coordinator search, at least from AFAR, seemed to
- 58:15Speaker 14: wide ranging.
- 58:17Speaker 1: A number of different people interviewed. Why was it important
- 58:19Speaker 1: to cast such a wide.
- 58:20Speaker 17: Net for that job.
- 58:22Speaker 19: Yeah, it was my first time doing it, so you
- 58:24Speaker 19: want to make sure that you have a bar set
- 58:27Speaker 19: and then work off of that bar. I feel very
- 58:29Speaker 19: I feel very good about where our staff is. Once again, look,
- 58:33Speaker 19: there will be one of offs here and there, but
- 58:36Speaker 19: it was very important just to talk to as many
- 58:38Speaker 19: people as we could so we can go to good
- 58:40Speaker 19: feel for who we wanted to hire.
- 58:42Speaker 20: Obviously, you got on the defensive side, and you've schemed
- 58:45Speaker 20: against you know, all the best modern offenses. Did you
- 58:49Speaker 20: go into this thinking like I went against this offense,
- 58:51Speaker 20: I'd like to go I'd like to hire somebody from
- 58:53Speaker 20: that tree, or you know, how did it.
- 58:55Speaker 3: Work for people a little bit?
- 58:57Speaker 19: You know, realistically, I'm not going to talk too much
- 58:59Speaker 19: about football, but realistically, on early downs you're only gonna
- 59:02Speaker 19: get you know, so many schemes. It's really the third
- 59:05Speaker 19: down stuff that you really see coaches start to start
- 59:08Speaker 19: to shine. It was important, you know, anytime we played
- 59:12Speaker 19: Cleveland or teams that. It was at the top of
- 59:14Speaker 19: my mind. When we played teams like that, you always
- 59:17Speaker 19: wonder like what are they thinking? And also what are
- 59:20Speaker 19: they thinking about us defensively? And so I feel like
- 59:22Speaker 19: we've cast you know, the net that we've casted. I
- 59:26Speaker 19: will definitely learn a lot from these guys as well
- 59:28Speaker 19: as we as we prepare for the opponents going forward. Look,
- 59:36Speaker 19: High Tower, you know, he was my little brother when
- 59:38Speaker 19: he got here, one of the smartest players that I've
- 59:41Speaker 19: been around. And we've been talking about this for a while.
- 59:44Speaker 19: I'll be honest with you, We've been talking about it
- 59:46Speaker 19: for a while. High Tower has always really wanted to coach.
- 59:49Speaker 19: He was a coach on the field. Obviously he took
- 59:51Speaker 19: the torch and kind of ran with it. As far
- 59:52Speaker 19: as the championships and the leadership skills that he has,
- 59:57Speaker 19: it was very important. But it wasn't like a you know, yes,
- 1:00:00Speaker 19: hey man, you know you want to be my linebacker coach.
- 1:00:02Speaker 19: This was a This was an extensive search process.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: What kind of voice do you have with him? Who
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: is kind of jury coaching?
- 1:00:11Speaker 19: Just to be a sponge the same way he was
- 1:00:13Speaker 19: when he came in as a player. Just try to
- 1:00:15Speaker 19: learn from as many people as possible. When I got here,
- 1:00:18Speaker 19: I could talk about my journey.
- 1:00:20Speaker 10: Uh.
- 1:00:20Speaker 19: You know, you have a guy like DeMarcus Covington who
- 1:00:23Speaker 19: really started off on offense, moved over to defense quality control,
- 1:00:27Speaker 19: then all of a sudden he's coaching the linebackers without
- 1:00:29Speaker 19: the linebacker tag. Then he's going to the front. But
- 1:00:31Speaker 19: he had an extensive knowledge of different position groups. And
- 1:00:35Speaker 19: also I would say he really helped me with the
- 1:00:38Speaker 19: behind the scenes stone right, the drawing of the cards
- 1:00:41Speaker 19: and you know, setting up practice and things like that.
- 1:00:44Speaker 19: Steve helped me as well.
- 1:00:45Speaker 16: Uh.
- 1:00:46Speaker 19: I spent a lot of time with DC and confident
- 1:00:47Speaker 19: what he's what he's taught me. So for High Tower,
- 1:00:50Speaker 19: he should do the same thing.
- 1:00:51Speaker 22: You mentioned that a number of new coaches a couple
- 1:00:55Speaker 22: with the ones that are coming back, it seems like
- 1:00:57Speaker 22: a fairly large staff. Did you think this number of sta.
- 1:01:03Speaker 19: You know, one thing we wanted to make sure of
- 1:01:06Speaker 19: is that we weren't duplicating roles, and so for us,
- 1:01:09Speaker 19: we were thinking about what value, what value does this
- 1:01:12Speaker 19: role bring to the team. Now, Historically we've always had
- 1:01:15Speaker 19: small staffs, and I mean it's hard to get things
- 1:01:18Speaker 19: done that way in today's NFL. We weren't really thinking about,
- 1:01:22Speaker 19: you know, the size. We weren't thinking. We were just
- 1:01:24Speaker 19: thinking about how can we make this staff as good
- 1:01:27Speaker 19: as it can be.
- 1:01:27Speaker 10: Now.
- 1:01:27Speaker 19: Look, honestly, after talking to a lot of coaches your
- 1:01:31Speaker 19: first year coaching, like you hope you put together the
- 1:01:34Speaker 19: best staff, but realistically, I mean it's a process.
- 1:01:37Speaker 21: How much did you rely on Elliott wolf Trot? How
- 1:01:39Speaker 21: much did you were on Elliott wolf to help you
- 1:01:41Speaker 21: fill out the staff?
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: Yeah, Elliott, he's been great. He was in all the interviews.
- 1:01:45Speaker 19: He definitely has a lot of contacts and resources outside
- 1:01:48Speaker 19: of the building. When you you know, from my perspective,
- 1:01:51Speaker 19: all of my football has really been here, So it
- 1:01:53Speaker 19: was very important for me to bring in you know,
- 1:01:55Speaker 19: the a VP, the mcadoo's Elliott. You know, Elliott grew
- 1:01:58Speaker 19: up in the scouting world, He's been at multiple places.
- 1:02:01Speaker 19: Very it was very important to get their point of view,
- 1:02:03Speaker 19: uh as well.
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: Making any more additions to the coaching staff good place.
- 1:02:09Speaker 19: I would say, it's still a process. We're still working
- 1:02:11Speaker 19: through it. There are some roles that we're thinking about.
- 1:02:13Speaker 19: But at the same time, uh, this is I mean
- 1:02:16Speaker 19: we're pretty set. We're pretty set.
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: As you're often suppordinator.
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: What are you expecting it of your offensive?
- 1:02:22Speaker 19: Yeah, I'm expecting you know, first and foremost, a tough team,
- 1:02:25Speaker 19: a tough team, and I think after that it really
- 1:02:27Speaker 19: gets into uh, smart players. But you don't have to
- 1:02:30Speaker 19: be a genius, but you have to be smart enough
- 1:02:32Speaker 19: and really uh explosive players than guys that really play
- 1:02:35Speaker 19: for one another. We want to check our egos, hold
- 1:02:39Speaker 19: on we you know, this is you know, even from
- 1:02:42Speaker 19: a coaching staff. You know, I say it's an ego
- 1:02:44Speaker 19: free zone. And once we get the coaches on that
- 1:02:47Speaker 19: same page, you hope that the players will will follow
- 1:02:50Speaker 19: suit and go out there and play for one another.
- 1:02:54Speaker 3: I gotta go here. A month ago you this day
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: wasn't here, and all of a sudden it is.
- 1:02:59Speaker 19: So how are you feeling about that that you're a
- 1:03:02Speaker 19: month later now and you're almost got your final coaching
- 1:03:04Speaker 19: staff and you're ready to move on? Yeah, I mean
- 1:03:06Speaker 19: it feels great. It feels great. And and like I said,
- 1:03:09Speaker 19: I'm very happy with the coaching staff that we have.
- 1:03:12Speaker 19: You know, after this you'll get a chance to meet
- 1:03:14Speaker 19: the coordinators obviously, but also our position coaches will play
- 1:03:17Speaker 19: a major part in this team's success.
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: Are you able to say, o, firt Round is all
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: the souff and so.
- 1:03:24Speaker 19: Shirt Brown is still on the staff, And once again
- 1:03:26Speaker 19: I would say, uh, the staff is still pretty fluent.
- 1:03:29Speaker 3: But he is on the staff.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: In a relationship like that frior to send me to.
- 1:03:37Speaker 19: So once Elliott got here, we I mean we hit
- 1:03:39Speaker 19: it off the first time we really met. He's one
- 1:03:41Speaker 19: of those guys. He's an ego free guy. He just
- 1:03:43Speaker 19: wants to win football games and that's what that's what
- 1:03:45Speaker 19: I live by as well. And uh, he's been a
- 1:03:48Speaker 19: great partner in this.
- 1:03:50Speaker 10: Year.
- 1:03:51Speaker 19: Absolutely absolutely from a team my perspective all the way
- 1:03:53Speaker 19: down to the individual players. Our philosophy matches. We want
- 1:03:57Speaker 19: to put good football players out there that are that
- 1:03:59Speaker 19: are fast and smart and really play for one another.
- 1:04:02Speaker 3: He sees it the same way.
- 1:04:03Speaker 20: What role is Robin Lazer? What duties is she performing
- 1:04:07Speaker 20: for you? She was in on at least some of
- 1:04:09Speaker 20: the interviews.
- 1:04:10Speaker 19: But yeah, you know, honestly, like at this point in time,
- 1:04:13Speaker 19: I just kind of want to focus on the coaches. Look,
- 1:04:16Speaker 19: we'll have other opportunities to really talk about some of
- 1:04:18Speaker 19: the things and some of the roles as it starts
- 1:04:20Speaker 19: to really set in the place. But right now I'm
- 1:04:22Speaker 19: focused on the coordinators, and I think we should focus
- 1:04:25Speaker 19: on the coordinators and the assistant coaches.
- 1:04:27Speaker 23: When someone accidentally threw the school play costumes, oh no,
- 1:04:32Speaker 23: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery.
- 1:04:35Speaker 23: Everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx. Where
- 1:04:39Speaker 23: now it's next for residential delivery only.
- 1:04:44Speaker 6: And now great.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Moments in.
- 1:04:48Speaker 6: History.
- 1:04:49Speaker 24: So I love college football. He has no interest in
- 1:04:51Speaker 24: it until February, but it's so much. This weekend especially
- 1:04:54Speaker 24: is going to be great. You know, Alabama, Tennessee. There's
- 1:04:56Speaker 24: probably at least one future Patriot playing in that game,
- 1:05:00Speaker 24: so that would probably be.
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: It okay, because he's patting himself on the back so much.
- 1:05:04Speaker 5: I'm gonna just say this, the reason why I don't
- 1:05:07Speaker 5: get into college football in the.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: Fall is because I have what's called a girlfriend, and
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: I had a shot fireball shot Saturday. I spend it
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: with Jess.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: I'm going to truly enjoy my Saturday this week. And
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: I thought you said we weren't doing we weren't doing persons.
- 1:05:27Speaker 6: That's another great moment from.
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: A little Catch twenty two. Crime There, Player on player,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: crime up.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: Do you know?
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: Patriots on Filter is brought to you by the Massachusetts
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: Office of Travel and Tourism. Great memories are made in Massachusetts,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: no matter how you choose to make them, indoors or outdoors, scenic, fuser,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: city vibes, solo or family style, whatever moves you, whatever
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: the season, playing your perfect Massachusetts get away at visit
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: MA dot com. All right, we're back the last hour
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: here on our Thursday show. And don't worry for all
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: the people that are emailing me saying I gotta read emails,
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: don't worry. I did an amazing job on the emails
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: on Tuesday, and I plan.
- 1:06:00Speaker 6: On doing Juice is playing hurt by the way I
- 1:06:02Speaker 6: can't even.
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Talk and I it's annoying, really patting on himself on
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: the back. No, well, some some some person wrote in
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: and was like really kind of critical of my email reading,
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: both how I read them and how I jumped right
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: into a response, not a big email like I like
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: on Catch twenty two, I forget to you forget and
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: then you like, oh, I should read one, and then
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: you start into it and you're like and then you
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: do what Fred doesly what what?
- 1:06:25Speaker 10: What?
- 1:06:25Speaker 22: What?
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: What is he talking?
- 1:06:27Speaker 6: We have listeners, slack us that option. I'll slack it.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: I say this with like all the love in my heart.
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: But like we have to have like a character limit,
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: like don't email I'm on the air, like hosting a podcast.
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: I can't read your like five hundred word out season outline,
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: you know, first sign this guy.
- 1:06:44Speaker 10: This is like another version of like mailbag in a sense,
- 1:06:47Speaker 10: but like speaking to We're gonna have a little mini
- 1:06:50Speaker 10: content meeting here.
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: We could answer some of these like off air, you.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Know, let just be more efficient.
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: They could be they could be like mailbags.
- 1:06:59Speaker 13: Question.
- 1:07:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I think we've we've floated that out there before.
- 1:07:02Speaker 5: Is maybe supplemented leftover ones.
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: Yeah, they're good ones. Sure, Sure people got questions, but
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: let's jump into those emails right now. First, just Jack
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: and Armor giving NPR a shout out, and he listens
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: to MPR every morning and every Saturday. It's a great
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: source of news to take. You'll like it. You used
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: to have good music out in La on the NPR station.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Oh gosh, I forget what it was called, but it was.
- 1:07:22Speaker 6: In the morning.
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: It's always like eighty eight point nine or something. But
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: they're really good music, like the big station out there.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: Forget okay rock maybe maybe big Boy, big Boy in
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: the word Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that's what I was.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: I was here. That's more yours.
- 1:07:35Speaker 5: I will because he an entourage. He goes on Big
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: Boy in the morning, So I what a show.
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: Christopher Virginia writes in I think I'm scared to use
- 1:07:44Speaker 1: the number three pick on a QB.
- 1:07:45Speaker 6: Me too.
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: It's because I had Fields in mac number two and
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: three in twenty one, and I was happy with either,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: And now my feeling is I'd be happy with may
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: or Penix. My question is, would you rather take may
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: or a lower tier wide receiver O T in the
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: second or Penix in the second and a higher two
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: your wide receiver OT at three, the one moving free agency.
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: I'd like to see them make his resign. Gilmore, I
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: think he has some left in the tank, would be
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: a great mentor to Gonzo and I feel like that
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: would be beneficial. I'm with you, Chris, I like that.
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: I like that that idea of you know, using Gilmore
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: is the third corner bringing him back, you know, rotating
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: with Jonathan Jones. I think that I'd be all for that.
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: But what do you guys think about you know, I mean,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: it's it's it's what we're kicking around our heads right now.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: How do you balance the needs?
- 1:08:25Speaker 10: I feel like if you were gonna try to get
- 1:08:27Speaker 10: someone like Penix and what do you say second round?
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: Yeah, I would you have to make sure you have
- 1:08:31Speaker 4: some protection.
- 1:08:32Speaker 10: For him because you know, as Evan multiple people have
- 1:08:34Speaker 10: brought up multiple times like that's a guy who suffered
- 1:08:37Speaker 10: multiple injuries and you don't want him running for his
- 1:08:40Speaker 10: life every single play. And so to get the most
- 1:08:43Speaker 10: productive Michael Penix, you're gonna need to get him some protection.
- 1:08:46Speaker 10: And I don't know if we had.
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Checking her the egg.
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, I don't know if the pot Penis is
- 1:08:52Speaker 5: the type of guy too that it all depends on
- 1:08:55Speaker 5: what happens next week. I said, Michael Penix, next week
- 1:08:58Speaker 5: is the best, biggest week of his life, whatever those
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: doctors tell the teams about.
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: Right, all of a sudden, you're like, Oh.
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: It's like Rocky, which, yeah, it can't be a South
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: Pod anymore. Uh No, I I think you know, that's
- 1:09:11Speaker 5: the biggest week of his life. And I mean that
- 1:09:13Speaker 5: in all sincerity, Like what those doctors tell the teams
- 1:09:16Speaker 5: about his knee and his shoulder is like literally his
- 1:09:19Speaker 5: whole life. And I have a feeling that the NFL,
- 1:09:23Speaker 5: the league is going to hurt, you know, knock Penix
- 1:09:27Speaker 5: a lot for the injuries. And I think there's a
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: chance that maybe he's like a third or fourth round pick,
- 1:09:32Speaker 5: like a surprise guy that ends up falling pretty significantly
- 1:09:35Speaker 5: because the league. It's such a big risk for a
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: front office to take, uh a high draft pick on
- 1:09:41Speaker 5: a player that has four season ending injuries on his
- 1:09:44Speaker 5: on his resumes. We can sit here and say, oh,
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: just do it, like it's easy for us to say,
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: but when it's your job that's on the line and
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: you're the one that's actually making the pick, it's a
- 1:09:53Speaker 5: lot harder.
- 1:09:53Speaker 10: So would you if he does end up falling late
- 1:09:56Speaker 10: and you know, would you end up taking two quarterbacks
- 1:09:59Speaker 10: in this draft? Like if he was still there like late,
- 1:10:02Speaker 10: like fifth round, like and you already got your person
- 1:10:05Speaker 10: and you're.
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: Like three style.
- 1:10:08Speaker 5: I mean, I I've floated around the idea of taking
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: two quarterbacks in this draft. I mean, I don't think
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: it will be able to be Pennix, but like, yeah,
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: a guy like Joe Milton or the opposite direction, a
- 1:10:18Speaker 5: guy like Michael Pratt. Like whether it's like the safe
- 1:10:21Speaker 5: pick or it's like the high, high ceiling pick, whichever
- 1:10:24Speaker 5: one you know you don't take in the first round.
- 1:10:26Speaker 5: If you take Jayden Daniels in the first round, then
- 1:10:29Speaker 5: maybe you know, RG three Kirk Cousins, Like maybe you'd
- 1:10:32Speaker 5: take a guy like Spencer Ratler or Michael Pratt or
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: something like that who's a little bit more of a
- 1:10:36Speaker 5: traditional player at the position.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: You know, I wouldn't hate that.
- 1:10:39Speaker 6: What about So I'm kind of in a Marvin Harrison
- 1:10:41Speaker 6: because I think elite receivers get it done. Look at
- 1:10:43Speaker 6: Hopkins and even Mike Evans before Brady, but like for
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: you that good, you get it done? What about Trey Lance?
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: That thought? What done?
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: I think even going back to college he's played.
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: No, I think that's too much of a project.
- 1:10:59Speaker 10: Guys think that's a full Like there's already like a
- 1:11:02Speaker 10: huge like rebuilds happening here, Like that's another rebuild in itself.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: I mean, I wouldn't kick any quarterback out of bed
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: except for maybe Macron.
- 1:11:10Speaker 6: I don't know. I just feel like if you potentially
- 1:11:12Speaker 6: with I think Marvin Harrison, I'm.
- 1:11:15Speaker 7: In that sense of like he's the generational talent, wouldever
- 1:11:20Speaker 7: like go with the sure thing.
- 1:11:21Speaker 9: But I don't know if I would then drop or
- 1:11:24Speaker 9: bring in a guy like that. I try to bring
- 1:11:26Speaker 9: in like a proven.
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: That I agree, that's just it's just one of those
- 1:11:29Speaker 6: things like if like when have we ever had a
- 1:11:31Speaker 6: receiver like that? You just get it and then if
- 1:11:33Speaker 6: we stink, okay, we we able to pick.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I think just my question would be, and that's maybe
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: a question for Airlei Wolf would just be like how
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: do you stack your board? Do you not put wide
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: receivers at third on the board because you just can't.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: That's that doesn't work that way. You can't take a
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: receiver that high. Is he you know, is he not
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: the number three guy on your board? Is there that
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: I can't get over Neighbors? Like, I'm sorry, Like there's
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: a big part of me. And you know, granted, I
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: you know, I jump into the stuff in the off season,
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: but from what I've seen of these two guys, like,
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: I don't think it's crazy to think that Milik Neighbors
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: will be a more productive all around wide receiver than
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: Marvin Harrison. Well, well, they're just very different players.
- 1:12:05Speaker 5: Like and I also would say that a lot of
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: people think that Roma Duneesa it might end up being
- 1:12:09Speaker 5: the most productive guy out of all of these guys,
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: just because of his consistency and stuff. So all three
- 1:12:16Speaker 5: of those guys are in the same tier. To me,
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: I think generational. You know, Paul actually talked, you know,
- 1:12:21Speaker 5: talked me off this with Hart Harrison. We probably throw
- 1:12:25Speaker 5: generational around a little bit too much. Like is Marvin
- 1:12:28Speaker 5: Harrison junior Jamar Chase was four drafts ago and I
- 1:12:33Speaker 5: would say that he had just as much hype about
- 1:12:36Speaker 5: him coming out as as Marvin Harrison Junior did. So
- 1:12:40Speaker 5: it was four years apart a generational gap. Probably probably not.
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: We started talking about generational we're talking about once a
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: decade once, you know, every fifteen, twenty years. Maybe even
- 1:12:50Speaker 5: I just I think he's a great prospect. But Deuce,
- 1:12:54Speaker 5: I kind of agree with you. I guess I think
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: neighbors in a Douneesa are in the same neighborhood. I
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: don't think that those guys are are completely different tiers
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: or different levels. They all have different skills obviously, but
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: you know, Neighbors is the type of guy that you
- 1:13:10Speaker 5: were gonna have to worry about his speed every single
- 1:13:11Speaker 5: time he steps on the field. It's kind of like
- 1:13:13Speaker 5: Tyree Hill, like you're gonna have to account for his
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: ability to take the top off every single play. And
- 1:13:19Speaker 5: that's extremely valuable, you know, in terms of how teams
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: till coverage and things like that.
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: Just real quick, we did get a little bit of
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: news notifying us that Elliot Wolf is in fact confirmed
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: for ten am on Tuesday. He will speak at the
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: podium from the Combine in Indianapolis. That'll be the first
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: round of interviews. There no Jirobmeo on the schedule as
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: of yet, so but we'll take Ellie Wolf because we've
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: never actually even seen a Patriots GM or coach speak
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: at the Combine, so Elliot Wolf will take the combine stage. There.
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: Let's jump back to the phone, Soto real quick, go
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: up to Vancouver. Hey, Sean, what's going on?
- 1:13:54Speaker 25: Hey everybody good to speak with you.
- 1:13:56Speaker 26: I hope you're all well.
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: Thanks for Tom Mike.
- 1:13:59Speaker 26: I hope you get better.
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: Fine, just sounds so I feel fine.
- 1:14:02Speaker 12: I don't know, I just okay, I don't know.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: I appreciate them.
- 1:14:06Speaker 25: I just wanted to put give my thoughts about the
- 1:14:09Speaker 25: Dynasty doc and you know, I'm going to give stars
- 1:14:12Speaker 25: as well to like the new interviews with those players
- 1:14:14Speaker 25: are great, and the revelation about Drew in the pocket
- 1:14:17Speaker 25: from Ernie was cool because I didn't know that. And
- 1:14:20Speaker 25: some of the old tips I haven't seen before. But
- 1:14:22Speaker 25: some of the wishes, and I think Paul mentioned this
- 1:14:24Speaker 25: is I wish they would have kept the truth about
- 1:14:28Speaker 25: the Rams lost, like how close it was, and it
- 1:14:30Speaker 25: actually gave us confidence fans and I think it's the team.
- 1:14:33Speaker 25: And then also the full story from Belichick with the Browns,
- 1:14:37Speaker 25: because you know they did actually make the playoffs and
- 1:14:41Speaker 25: come to New England. They did build a team and
- 1:14:43Speaker 25: it was pretty good, and then they were kind of
- 1:14:46Speaker 25: destroyed in ninety five when they announced they were moving.
- 1:14:49Speaker 25: So that's a little different than the way they portrayed
- 1:14:51Speaker 25: the bounds. And the most important thing that I hope
- 1:14:54Speaker 25: maybe I'll mention later, but I really think they missed
- 1:14:56Speaker 25: out was Dick Raybaud because he had a huge impact
- 1:14:59Speaker 25: on bread on Brady and was a big loss. I
- 1:15:02Speaker 25: think they've been had patches in two thousand and one
- 1:15:04Speaker 25: for him.
- 1:15:07Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:15:08Speaker 25: The other thing I want to talk about was I'm
- 1:15:12Speaker 25: really happy that Patriots to fill their coasting positions with
- 1:15:15Speaker 25: a big staff that have specific roles because you know,
- 1:15:18Speaker 25: in terms of the philosophy of do your job, the
- 1:15:20Speaker 25: whole thing is like focus, don't freelance, Like do what
- 1:15:24Speaker 25: you're supposed to do. And when it comes to coaches,
- 1:15:27Speaker 25: if you have a small staff, you're forced to multitask
- 1:15:30Speaker 25: and that means losing focus and I think that might
- 1:15:33Speaker 25: pass down to the players in that sense as well.
- 1:15:36Speaker 25: So it's good that everyone is it's going to be
- 1:15:38Speaker 25: able to focus on what they need to do and
- 1:15:41Speaker 25: hopefully get things straight and we'll have a better clear season.
- 1:15:46Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:15:46Speaker 25: That's all.
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: Thanks. I appreciate it.
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: They will never tell the story of the Cleveland Browns
- 1:15:50Speaker 5: and Bill Belichick the right way. They'll never do every
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: single time they tell the story about Bill and the
- 1:15:56Speaker 5: Browns is how awful it was and how much of
- 1:15:58Speaker 5: an a hole he was and how it all blew up.
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: And you know, Sean, Sean's right, they were they did
- 1:16:04Speaker 5: they win super Bowls. No, but they had a little
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: bit of success and they just didn't really have a
- 1:16:08Speaker 5: quarterback because you know they sort of talked about.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: That, I guess. But Cleveland ninety five, that doc that
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: I mean that that shines as much light positive light
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: on it as as you can imagine. And I mean
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: I think it was ninety three or ninety four that
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: that he they basically were super Bowl you know in
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: the beginning of the year. Doesn't mean anything, but you know,
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: sports illustrated to make super Bowl like they were getting
- 1:16:26Speaker 1: picks on that based on how they had kind of
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: you know, progressed. But I think you're right. I mean,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: it's it's one of the great debates. I know Paul
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: loves getting into it on you know, Cleveland and the
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: Ravens and you know, Belichick's impact and how much credit
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: he gets and all that kind of stuff. But but
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: but I agree with Sean and I think about the doc.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: You know, there's plenty of stuff that they left out.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: I mean, I've only seen four episodes, so two more
- 1:16:47Speaker 1: will release tonight, I believe about what is it nine o'clock?
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: I think Eastern time is when they've been dropping. Released
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: to drop the other two last week, so be sure
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: to watch that tonight. You can then watch our Dynasty
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: recap podcast.
- 1:17:01Speaker 6: Uh, I can't remember the show, so I want to
- 1:17:04Speaker 6: talk about the diacety doc real quick, which is as
- 1:17:07Speaker 6: I mentioned, these stories have been told so many times,
- 1:17:10Speaker 6: so it's like, you know, the man in the arena
- 1:17:13Speaker 6: with Tom, Like, didn't they mention how close the Rams
- 1:17:15Speaker 6: game was? Like I think that's why this bounces around
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: because you can only retell a story so many times.
- 1:17:19Speaker 6: And so I think they're getting to stuff that we
- 1:17:21Speaker 6: haven't heard, like Spygate, Hernandez all this stuff.
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: So well, I just I mean you'll see it tonight, everybody.
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: And like Super Bowl thirty thirty nine, twenty one game
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: win streak.
- 1:17:30Speaker 6: Yeah, we'll just go to three games like like three.
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: Minutes of like yeah, and then they be then they
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: won a bunch of games and they dominate the NFL. Like,
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: I don't know that was, you know, disappointing to me.
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: There'll be other things that that people will be disappointed
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: with Spygate, you know, we'll get to jump back into that.
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: Yeah, the Dick ray Bne thing is interesting too. I
- 1:17:51Speaker 5: think that in some respects no offense to Dick Rayvine,
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: but like I think Bill and mister Kraft and Tom
- 1:17:58Speaker 5: Brady are trying to kind of take credit for this
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: whole thing, as they probably should, and as much as
- 1:18:03Speaker 5: I agree that he probably deserved mention. For people that
- 1:18:07Speaker 5: don't know, Dick Raybne was the quarterbacks coach at the
- 1:18:09Speaker 5: time for the Patriots, and you know, the story goes,
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: the story goes that he was banging the table for
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: Tom Brady in the in the draft meetings like that
- 1:18:21Speaker 5: he had saw something from Brady at Michigan and he
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: was like his biggest fan in the building before the draft.
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: And so a lot of people say that the reason
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: why they even had him on the board to begin
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: with was because of Dick Rayvine. So I agree he
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: his name deserved mentioned, but I think that this doc
- 1:18:38Speaker 5: is really trying to give the Pillars, the credit.
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: You know, it's telling the story from a different perspective.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: And I mean, you know, I just you kind of
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: I assumed like, oh, this is going to be for
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Patriots fans, and it's not. It's for Joe average fan
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: who didn't really know and.
- 1:18:53Speaker 6: You know that the random presson turns on Apple TV. Yeah,
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: well the.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: Fans like you know, like us who want to see
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: you know, a twenty one game winning streak that you
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: know still stands, you know, back to back. I mean
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: until the Chiefs a couple of weeks ago. They were
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: the last team to do that. You know, there was
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: just a lot of things that were special about those teams,
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: and I just I felt like they kind of won
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: the first championship and then they were like, all right,
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: let's fast forward now to when things get gritty and
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: you know, get controversial, and you know, that's their episode.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: So we're so good.
- 1:19:20Speaker 5: Like for younger Patriots fans like myself that I remember
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: bits and pieces of the two thousand and one season,
- 1:19:28Speaker 5: but I was eight nine years old. There's no way
- 1:19:30Speaker 5: I was going to remember it like I would remember,
- 1:19:32Speaker 5: you know, last season for the you know, for the Patriots.
- 1:19:35Speaker 5: So somebody like you do said, you know, live through
- 1:19:38Speaker 5: it a little bit more. That's probably old news too,
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: that's like stuff you've already known. But for me, I
- 1:19:43Speaker 5: think I did learn some things. And I think what's
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: a little bit disappointing to Sean's point is that you
- 1:19:50Speaker 5: listen to people like Paul, you listen to people like
- 1:19:52Speaker 5: Felger that were there, and they're saying that they're not
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: really telling you the story correctly. And that's disappointing because
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: now that's going to be my knowledge of it is
- 1:20:01Speaker 5: going to be based off of all of these documentaries
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: and stuff like that, because I was so young when
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: it happened.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that's I think. I just was disappointed to see
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: press conference Bill, and I think, you know, that's really
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: what would have made this to me be a lot,
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: you know, just next level. But I mean we can,
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: you know, speculate on what his state of mind was
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: and in participating in this, but it's just, you know,
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: you want to see storyteller Bill. You want to see
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: you know, you want to hear the little behind the
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: scenes things for.
- 1:20:28Speaker 6: The Army Tavy Bill.
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: You want Army Navy Bill, you want Dante Scornecki a
- 1:20:32Speaker 1: yelling at an offensive lineman. Bill. So I think that's
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: what we're all kind of waiting for, Like, you know,
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: the dynasty will be what it is. But I still
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: think that I at least know. I'm very hopeful that
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: someday we'll get a book out of Bill Belichick that
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: will be just his his uncensored opinion on everything and
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: from his point of view, how it went the way
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: it went.
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: That's why I wonder. And I know that some of
- 1:20:54Speaker 5: the people, not the b Ages, but are getting older,
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: and maybe that's part of it. But I wonder if
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: they did it too soon. Yeah, you know, maybe if
- 1:21:01Speaker 5: we did this two or three years from now, when
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: respected all this kind of cools down. They taped it
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: when he was was still the head coach of the
- 1:21:11Speaker 5: Patriots at the time, but it was clearly go in
- 1:21:14Speaker 5: the other direction, and he didn't want to play ball
- 1:21:17Speaker 5: like he just did. He didn't want to be a
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: part of it, I don't think, and so maybe three
- 1:21:22Speaker 5: years from now or whatever, he would have been able
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: to look at it a little bit differently.
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: I got an email here from Dan in VA and
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: Michigan got a little comment on like our seating arrangement
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: like it great to see the young Guns team back again.
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: I wonder if either Tamarrow or Evan should be sitting
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: in Paul's chair. However, as Matista is just too nice,
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: it's throwing things off, not having so much snark coming
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: from that direction. Tomorrow and Tamara and Evan might be
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: the new Andy versus Paul with their interactions, although at
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: times it also remembers Andy's sticking it to Eric Well.
- 1:21:54Speaker 6: To be fair, I usually sit in that seat the
- 1:21:56Speaker 6: other times when I was filtered, So I.
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: Like giving Evan. It's like my favorite thing to do.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: It's fun, but it's so good.
- 1:22:03Speaker 5: Like you give me crap about not football stuff. You
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: give me crap about things that I say that are
- 1:22:08Speaker 5: supposed to.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: Not be for air.
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: But but you should know better as a reporter that
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: everything you don't say off the record.
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: We had an off the record meet and greet, and
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: I've done very well. I feel like for these four
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: hours of not saying anything I shouldn't say, I feel
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: like you know same courtesy.
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: You know we're off the record. No Yeah, Alex from
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: mont Holly writes in she says, I can only picture
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: in my head how giddy Evan was meeting all the coaches.
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: Right now, I picture him jumping like a little puppy
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: begging to go outside and play. But on a similar note,
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: given Evan in ninety percent of the world our swifties,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: what Taylor Swift's song do you think was going through
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: his head after he met with Alex van pell Oh?
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: I hadn't Sarah Taylor. There was not a Taylor Swifts
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: song going through my head.
- 1:22:57Speaker 6: I don't know what's that.
- 1:22:59Speaker 4: It feel like Alex be the best person to identify
- 1:23:01Speaker 4: a song.
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: It's the thread, so invisible string, visible string.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: In visible, That's what I was going to say, because
- 1:23:08Speaker 4: that's on his list.
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: I don't think that that fits. No, is there anything
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: with like playbook or x's and o's in the title?
- 1:23:16Speaker 6: Does that?
- 1:23:17Speaker 5: I want to Maybe not yet, but maybe maybe her
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: next album now that she's dating Travis Kelsey, there'll be
- 1:23:24Speaker 5: some football things.
- 1:23:25Speaker 9: Like this next album is just going to be a
- 1:23:27Speaker 9: roast of X. I saw the track nail.
- 1:23:30Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:23:30Speaker 9: Yeah, I saw the track name.
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: On All Taylor Swift All Football album, where it's just
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: her writing when they break up, songs about and reads
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: in the music video the tight ends You gave me
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: the wrong end, you know, like you can she breaks
- 1:23:42Speaker 1: up with Kelsey. There'll be some There'll be some good
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: art there. I can feel it.
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: Yesterday was was my was it highlight of my life?
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: I'm not gonna you know, And I think the bically
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: just the start. The biggest thing is just I just
- 1:23:55Speaker 5: want to talk football with these guys. And it's not
- 1:23:57Speaker 5: to go and report it and like break news or
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: something like that.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: I just want, you know.
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: I asked them questions so that they can teach me football.
- 1:24:04Speaker 5: Like that's literally it.
- 1:24:05Speaker 15: You know.
- 1:24:06Speaker 5: Obviously these guys are encyclopedias when it comes to this stuff.
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: So it's you know, what do you look for in this?
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: What do you look for in that? What are your
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: stances on these things? Like those things are are I
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: find fascinating?
- 1:24:16Speaker 10: I do? Uh?
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Anthony Wrights and says love is Blind is horrible? And
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: did Alex scare you? Reality TV used to be real breaking,
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: used to Herduce. If I could really do any reality show,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: it'd be have to be Survivor. It'd be the most
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: fun and I have an actual chance to win, the
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: real question is how long would you make it on alone?
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: Great question? I love alone? You guys, were watching Alone.
- 1:24:36Speaker 14: No.
- 1:24:37Speaker 7: But for the record, I didn't say when reality TV
- 1:24:39Speaker 7: was real, I know it's never real, said when it
- 1:24:41Speaker 7: was good, like.
- 1:24:43Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, well season one Jersey.
- 1:24:45Speaker 9: Back when reality TV was reality TV, it was like fun.
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: And I don't know alone is legit. I mean alone
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: is like they just take twelve people. You go up
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: into like Alaska, you go to separate camps and you
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: just see how long you can stay on your own. Yeah,
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: only have clothes because it's usually subarctic tempers.
- 1:24:59Speaker 6: I want to do white out going with the bouncing.
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: That feels unfair. There's no way to win it. I
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: feel like they're just setting you up to get I
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: just went on, Oh yeah, that was like training, like
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: a military training kind of show.
- 1:25:09Speaker 6: Yeah, the CBS showed was intense.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: I do Survivor though, I mean I love Survivor. I
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: think I do okay on Survivor, you know because the
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: people who stink at it like have no filter and
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: like they just say you're gonna get kicked off. Stop
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: going around giving everybody crap.
- 1:25:21Speaker 5: My friend growing up, his mom when I was on Survivor,
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: and she like went really far and is now a
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: Survivor celebrity. Oh, one of those pitch does like podcasts
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: and stuff like that about the show.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: How many easy do you know any delays who's like
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: obsessed with Survivor and they've seen like every season and
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: like they know every single contestant. I've watched seasons. But
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: like there are certain people that just love that show
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: and they're like, you remember from this guy from the
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Calling from season seven, Like one of.
- 1:25:45Speaker 9: My best friends and her mom used to watch it
- 1:25:47Speaker 9: all the time.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: They loved it.
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: I loved it.
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: I watched the first to the Doer. It was good.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: Uh oh, all right, So Edmond writes in and says, hey, y'all.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: First off, Evan's hair looks excellent. Alex's hair also fantastic barbershop.
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: Oh there he goes he just got. Is there any
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: word or plans to maybe change up the uniforms a
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: bit now or even change them all together with this
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: whole new revamp of the team. I really don't love
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: these current ones and just want maybe a few more
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: than just a couple of combinations for game day preach
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: is one more year?
- 1:26:23Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: I think it's it's in the works. I think because
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: they have a I think it's one more year. I
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: don't know, there's a.
- 1:26:32Speaker 9: Times conversations are probably in the works with Nike, but it's.
- 1:26:35Speaker 6: Just yeah, it varies on teams because the Rams, remember
- 1:26:40Speaker 6: they had the mish mash jerseys. Then we played them
- 1:26:42Speaker 6: in the Super Bowl and for some reason they were
- 1:26:43Speaker 6: allowed to wear the throwback. So I don't know. I
- 1:26:45Speaker 6: think if you really want to make it happen, it
- 1:26:47Speaker 6: can just happen.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: So the Jets are changing, there's already like they just
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: like two years ago.
- 1:26:51Speaker 6: And because this is this is this is awful.
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: I just think it's it's sad that the dynasty uniforms
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: are gone. Like just there's how many teams that won
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: multiple Super Bowls have different uniforms now than they did
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: when they want to.
- 1:27:03Speaker 6: The thing is, I get why they did it, but
- 1:27:07Speaker 6: it's just bring it.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: Back and the pants.
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: Yeah, truly Tom Tom left like it was it was
- 1:27:12Speaker 6: felt like it was it was time. But I think
- 1:27:15Speaker 6: maybe in hindsight, this is time.
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: There's a little haphazard. I say this.
- 1:27:19Speaker 5: I know I'm supposed to be a company man, but
- 1:27:21Speaker 5: the blueberries are blueberries are absolutely brutal.
- 1:27:25Speaker 6: But did you see did you think about did you
- 1:27:27Speaker 6: think that when it was color rush. Did you think
- 1:27:29Speaker 6: they were awful when it was color? And I agree?
- 1:27:32Speaker 6: So they used to be good, but it can't be
- 1:27:34Speaker 6: your everyday.
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: The only thing that saves it are the gray pants,
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: Like if you're gonna wear blue with the gray pants.
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: But that's more like it's basically the Dynasty look.
- 1:27:42Speaker 6: It's just an updated the white jerseys. It looks like
- 1:27:45Speaker 6: we're a team that didn't get an NFL brand license
- 1:27:47Speaker 6: in a movie and we were just giving like a
- 1:27:49Speaker 6: template and this is the jersey. Right, So it's time.
- 1:27:52Speaker 6: I'm with the car. We need we need something. I say,
- 1:27:53Speaker 6: bring back the Royal blues.
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: But that's no. But there's got to be a happy
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: medium somewhere in there. I don't know.
- 1:27:59Speaker 6: It's go to Nike and be like, do your thing.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: Well, they did that last time, and they stunk it.
- 1:28:04Speaker 6: I don't think somebody didn't say it.
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: I gotta say though, I even remember most of you
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: guys weren't even born at this time, but in two thousand,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: when the when the they came up with these, I
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: was instantly were born. These are awesome, you know, like
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: they instantly resonated with me. There were a number of
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: different ways. Yeah, Like, it's not.
- 1:28:20Speaker 5: They're not overly complex jerseys, the Brady era jerseys. They're
- 1:28:24Speaker 5: just a classic football jersey.
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: I don't know. I wouldn't you feel different though, if
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: they came out like it's just all of a sudden,
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: this team comes out in those uniforms. Who's playing quarterback?
- 1:28:38Speaker 9: We have now just don't seem that legit, like you
- 1:28:44Speaker 9: team playing in the most like.
- 1:28:47Speaker 5: You didn't get the licensing deal in the movie and
- 1:28:49Speaker 5: you had to wear these jerseys because of that.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: This one just starts off my beef with Evan. I'm
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: not sure even where it's gonna go. I'm still jumping
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: and read this one, but it's from It's from Barton
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: Poland the discussion around the third pick wouldn't be there
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: if we lost one of the two games we won
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: at the end of the season. And of course I
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: know the players won't intentionally tank, and I don't fault
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: them for winning, but I absolutely hate the fact that
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: a lot of the media, including Evan, told us to
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: enjoy those victories and what now. I hope that you've
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: enjoyed that win for the for that built the winning
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: culture for a team that will be completely different next year.
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: Now we're stuck with a question if we are coping,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: if we want to take the QB that has left
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: at number three, or is he just a consolation pliers?
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: Move on with your life. This was like a this
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: was a like four month ago argument. He's still that
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: Broncos game. Okay, I'm sorry. I'm just sad that I
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: I didn't even have a good Tamara's birthday.
- 1:29:41Speaker 6: I know it's strength the schedule. How are the commanders
- 1:29:43Speaker 6: ahead of most It makes no sense, Like it just
- 1:29:45Speaker 6: doesn't they beat us.
- 1:29:47Speaker 9: International?
- 1:29:48Speaker 5: I would just I would just say that I put
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: Drake May and Jayden and Daniels in the same tier.
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: So at the end of the day, you're going to
- 1:29:56Speaker 5: get one of those two guys, most likely if you're
- 1:29:58Speaker 5: going to take a quarterback. So it's not really going
- 1:30:01Speaker 5: to make a difference in the odds of one being
- 1:30:03Speaker 5: better than the other are probably a coin flip anyway,
- 1:30:06Speaker 5: So who knows. I you know, you you could go
- 1:30:10Speaker 5: through the drafts and everybody ranked them one way and
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: then it turned out.
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: A different way.
- 1:30:14Speaker 6: Comander's got it wrong with Forbes. They can do it again.
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean last year, Bryce Young, C. J. Stroud
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: do you think the Panthers wish that they took C. J.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Stroud? Probably?
- 1:30:23Speaker 6: I think that's just a disaster there. Yeah, I think
- 1:30:26Speaker 6: they wish they share that too. Did Frank Raik say that.
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: Old man Jason's been holding for a while. Let's pop
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: back over here to the phones with Jason and Chi.
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: But hey, Jason, I do man.
- 1:30:38Speaker 16: Going on?
- 1:30:41Speaker 26: I'm it's just a hard mornings are hard, second shift
- 1:30:48Speaker 26: or so.
- 1:30:48Speaker 1: But I got.
- 1:30:50Speaker 26: By Todd.
- 1:30:53Speaker 6: Right collar and coller.
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: Do you care to respond?
- 1:30:56Speaker 26: I'm weird, you know, I know who Todd is. I
- 1:31:00Speaker 26: been listening and calling in since two thousand and seven,
- 1:31:02Speaker 26: so I don't know where he's been this full time.
- 1:31:05Speaker 26: But hey, listen, I'm just here to defend the world
- 1:31:10Speaker 26: from poor analogies. Quarterback is my race car driver. Quarterback
- 1:31:14Speaker 26: isn't the only one moving the team again, eleven people
- 1:31:19Speaker 26: on the field. Break it down a little bit. It's
- 1:31:22Speaker 26: nine point one one whatever percent of total success.
- 1:31:30Speaker 17: You need to have.
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: That's that's not how friend.
- 1:31:34Speaker 5: You're telling me that the guard has as much say
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: of how the team's success in the quarterback.
- 1:31:40Speaker 26: I know that you can't play down on eleven and
- 1:31:42Speaker 26: be successful.
- 1:31:43Speaker 5: Well, yeah, if you literally don't have somebody on going
- 1:31:47Speaker 5: to play that they're gonna play. They're gonna play with
- 1:31:49Speaker 5: ten guys on the field, Like that's the argument. They're
- 1:31:55Speaker 5: they're gonna put eleven guys.
- 1:31:56Speaker 26: Out the successful play out of all of the positions
- 1:32:01Speaker 26: in order to be successful.
- 1:32:02Speaker 6: All of them, I'm.
- 1:32:06Speaker 26: Ashworth and the plays out of them, then you should
- 1:32:12Speaker 26: upgrade the quarterback.
- 1:32:13Speaker 16: If you're.
- 1:32:16Speaker 26: Changes are going to upgrade another position where you're more
- 1:32:19Speaker 26: likely to get more winning plays out of that other position,
- 1:32:22Speaker 26: then that's what.
- 1:32:23Speaker 10: You have to do.
- 1:32:24Speaker 26: I mean, I agree that we should be focused on
- 1:32:26Speaker 26: a quarterback because they don't really have one, but I
- 1:32:30Speaker 26: I have seen over and over and over again, and
- 1:32:32Speaker 26: I was kind of hoping Paul would be around to
- 1:32:34Speaker 26: yell at me because he doesn't feel the play is
- 1:32:37Speaker 26: the former quarterback just sort of defending himself. But if
- 1:32:40Speaker 26: you want to stick up for Paul, that's fine. I
- 1:32:44Speaker 26: just think we overvalue the quarterback in general, as though
- 1:32:50Speaker 26: that's the that's the only thing that makes an offense.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: Go and it's obviously not the field.
- 1:32:56Speaker 26: They're just being completely ignored.
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: It's not obviously not the only appreciate it.
- 1:33:00Speaker 5: Say that every single position is equal to the impact
- 1:33:04Speaker 5: of winning and losing is crazy.
- 1:33:06Speaker 4: I mean, it just.
- 1:33:09Speaker 5: That's the only pushback is just that if you think that,
- 1:33:12Speaker 5: you know, the guard and the running back and all
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: these positions have as much of a say and who
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: the outcome of the game as the quarterback. It's not
- 1:33:21Speaker 5: dividing one hundred percent by eleven. It's just not like
- 1:33:25Speaker 5: that's just the reality.
- 1:33:27Speaker 10: And I feel like in looking especially at like the
- 1:33:29Speaker 10: Super Bowl, and to everyone's point, it's like brock Purty,
- 1:33:33Speaker 10: he played well, like he didn't do anything to make
- 1:33:36Speaker 10: his team lose, but he also didn't do anything outstanding
- 1:33:39Speaker 10: to make his team win. And that's when, like a
- 1:33:42Speaker 10: really great quarterback in that situation where their defense was
- 1:33:45Speaker 10: playing lights out, if they would have had if they
- 1:33:48Speaker 10: would have had the Mahomes on their side, they probably
- 1:33:50Speaker 10: could have.
- 1:33:50Speaker 4: Won the game.
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: I mean, how many times Tom Brady end of a
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: Super Bowl? I mean, what you know, he was the
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: reason you won. I mean sometimes the defense was the
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: reason you want sometimes, but decent defense was more the
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: reason you lost. They gave up those last drives and
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: you know a lot of the times Tom bowed out.
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: But I just think if you the goal is to
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: win Super Bowls. You need that guy at the end
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: of the game who can make those plays.
- 1:34:09Speaker 5: And yeah, I mean, if this doesn't find a quarterback
- 1:34:12Speaker 5: that can win them football games, they're all going to
- 1:34:14Speaker 5: be out of a job in two years. Like that's
- 1:34:16Speaker 5: just the reality of life in the NFL for any buddy.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: So Jack writes in free agency splash signing subject line,
- 1:34:23Speaker 1: I hope. So with how much uncertainty there seems to
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: be for the future and players we have here, big
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: big free agency signing where we actually spend money on
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: talent seems like it would make us fans feel some
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: sort of excitement and like things are going to change
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: for the better around here. Do you guys think we'll
- 1:34:37Speaker 1: make a move like that or are we going to
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: go be going the route of being sold on the
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: Green jill Let Lighthouse experience instead of talent to players
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: that was unnecessary, That was a Red Sox shot. I think, yeah, well,
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: either way, I hope.
- 1:34:52Speaker 10: So.
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: I mean, we talked about it on Tuesday that there's
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: a real chance to make a splash on defense, and
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: I know that they need it on offense and that
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: could happen too, But I think given how the market
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: is then you know, they could they could kind of
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: get an edge guy, or you know, they could get
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: an impact defensive player without having to really upset the
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: apple cart.
- 1:35:08Speaker 10: You know.
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: But I think we're on the same page with like
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: trying to get bar More locked up, and you know,
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: mcdougar gets locked up, and then all right, we're starting
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: to build a core here for this team to you know,
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: really to build around and on. And that's frankly what
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: they haven't had.
- 1:35:22Speaker 10: You know.
- 1:35:22Speaker 5: Yeah, there's no excuse not to spending free agency. I mean,
- 1:35:25Speaker 5: they have the cap space. You gotta spend a minimum,
- 1:35:28Speaker 5: you gotta spend money. I just I hope you don't
- 1:35:32Speaker 5: have to spend money just to spend money though. And
- 1:35:34Speaker 5: I think that's where we're coming from with the defensive signings.
- 1:35:37Speaker 5: If the best players on the board are all defensive players,
- 1:35:40Speaker 5: then don't go pay overpay a receiver just because he's
- 1:35:43Speaker 5: a receiver. You know, go where the talent goes and
- 1:35:46Speaker 5: sign those types of players. I think, you know, there's
- 1:35:48Speaker 5: a million fits on the defensive.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: Side of the ball.
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: I think there's a lot less guys that are intriguing
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: on the offensive side of the ball, and that stinks
- 1:35:54Speaker 5: to an extent because the offense is the area that
- 1:35:57Speaker 5: they need the most. But I don't just go chase
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: saying talent. You know, good big positions. You know, you
- 1:36:02Speaker 5: got to chase the talent.
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: This email is a little bit feeds into that from
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: the other Jack in Abba. If I'm not mistaken, The
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: Pats have two running backs under contract for next year.
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: That's correct, Remondes she'vens coming off an injury and Jamichael Hasty.
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: Who would you liked them to add in the private Harris? Uh,
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: that's okay, Sorry, I didn't think so.
- 1:36:22Speaker 6: I mean he should be.
- 1:36:23Speaker 1: He's probably one of those like RFAs or something, you know,
- 1:36:25Speaker 1: they have to like tender. Maybe I don't know. He's
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: been up and down from the practice squad. That usually
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: kind of complicates things any of the big name guys.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: I like Josh Jacobs because he's only twenty six, but
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: realistically that probably isn't a position worth worthy of high
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: end talent. I mean, is this could this be the
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: year to make a case to sign a veteran running back?
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: And I know we're all kind of like, I mean,
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: at least Paul and I are, you know, just you
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: draft him you use them for four years and you
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: flop them over and you draft someone new at the
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: running back position. But I mean, you know, not a
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: lot of like high end talent in the draft class
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: at least I was looking at those guys today. But
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: they are a lot of like good, tough, you know
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: running backs that seem like they come in and be
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: part of a platoon. But I mean there's like I
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: just want to keep Zeke. It's like some superstars on
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: the list, you know that are like, I mean, Josh
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: Jacobs is twenty six.
- 1:37:09Speaker 6: I'd love to keep Zeke. That's what Evan said the
- 1:37:11Speaker 6: other day, Like some of these guys are just gonna
- 1:37:13Speaker 6: be around because and then they're just gonna have to
- 1:37:14Speaker 6: have a reality check, which is what Hapsquon and Josh
- 1:37:16Speaker 6: Shakims this year. So there's a chance you could maybe.
- 1:37:18Speaker 10: Yeah, I kind of well, I don't know if I
- 1:37:21Speaker 10: would call, like a call Sequon upgrade upgrade for Zeke
- 1:37:25Speaker 10: just because of his injury issues, Like how much is
- 1:37:26Speaker 10: he actually going to be available? The name is great,
- 1:37:29Speaker 10: and I think first got into the league. Saquon is great,
- 1:37:32Speaker 10: But is Sequon still able to do that every single
- 1:37:35Speaker 10: game this year?
- 1:37:35Speaker 4: Well?
- 1:37:35Speaker 9: That was the question on Zeke too. When he came here.
- 1:37:38Speaker 9: It was like, he came it's great to build himself
- 1:37:40Speaker 9: back up and then get paid.
- 1:37:41Speaker 6: So just at his point, does he want to get
- 1:37:43Speaker 6: paid or winter ring so well?
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: I mean I wonder too, how if he would have
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: been more effective down the stretch if you had had
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: a viable platoon for him and not all kind of
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: on him. You know, it's it doesn't seem like those
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: days are still around for him.
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: But that for what it's worth, the advance met are
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: not friendly to Zeke last year. I mean, he's one
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: of the probably the least efficient running backs in terms
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: of like breaking tackles and things like that. I just
- 1:38:08Speaker 5: look at this running back free agent class and I
- 1:38:11Speaker 5: wonder if the position is going to get so undervalued
- 1:38:15Speaker 5: by the league that all of a sudden you can
- 1:38:17Speaker 5: get Derrick Henry for six million months. So it's like, well,
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: why what don't you at that point? I mean, I
- 1:38:25Speaker 5: would worst your towards Let's get a lightning to Remandra's thunder,
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: so like a Tony Pollard or Austin Eckler, But like
- 1:38:32Speaker 5: you know, whoever it ends up being. I also just
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: think that you can only have take so many needs
- 1:38:38Speaker 5: to the draft, can't. You can't wait for the draft
- 1:38:41Speaker 5: for everything. So if you can fill some of these
- 1:38:44Speaker 5: holes in free agency, and I look at running back
- 1:38:47Speaker 5: and tight end as two positions that you might be
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: able to get some quality players in.
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: This free agent class.
- 1:38:53Speaker 5: At we when we do our mock drafts, the fact
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: that you have to take a tight end in a
- 1:38:58Speaker 5: running back at some point, it's kind of a It
- 1:39:01Speaker 5: kind of bogs you down a little bit. You're like,
- 1:39:03Speaker 5: oh crap, Like I guess I'll take this fifth round
- 1:39:06Speaker 5: tight end right exactly. It's like I have to throw
- 1:39:08Speaker 5: in a tight end at random time in this draft
- 1:39:11Speaker 5: right now, or you know, drafted Jatavian Sanders in the
- 1:39:14Speaker 5: second round, and it's like, is that really the best
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: thing for the team. So I wouldn't be totally opposed
- 1:39:20Speaker 5: to signing a running back. Obviously, I'm not paying any
- 1:39:22Speaker 5: running back significant money guaranteed.
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: But the market, you said, if the market kind of
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: you know your supply and demand and nobody wore we'll
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: just draft you can get one of those big names
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: that we just mentioned on a discount, I think I
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: would probably do it a little love for Tamara here
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: from Alex and Raleigh. She just wanted to shout out
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: Tamara for her emotional support cup representing those of us
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: who have water attached to the It's excessive. How much
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: you girls drink water?
- 1:39:52Speaker 4: I'm drink Excuse me.
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: It's the same way.
- 1:40:00Speaker 6: Liver is.
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: She's just she goes to the bathroom like ten times
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: a day.
- 1:40:05Speaker 6: How do you exist?
- 1:40:07Speaker 9: Do you know how important being hydrated is?
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: Don't, don't, don't.
- 1:40:11Speaker 10: It's good for your health, it's good for your skin,
- 1:40:13Speaker 10: it's good for your hair. Like, come on, come on,
- 1:40:17Speaker 10: you have to get it together.
- 1:40:18Speaker 9: This is a lot your liver to function properly.
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: When you can you just real quick spout out your
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: Starbucks order?
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: Usually no, no, no, he can't because it's not duncan.
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: Excuse me, sorry Duncan, But I was trying to make
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: fun of you.
- 1:40:36Speaker 4: No no, no, no, but you need to drink more water.
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: Water, So I will say, can I make up for it?
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: I had a I had a cold brew it dunk
- 1:40:46Speaker 1: in this morning with the sweet cream foam, and it
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: was wonderful.
- 1:40:49Speaker 6: I had that this morning, too well done.
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: Gives you the kick that you need. And it's not
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: like that Starbucks crapt it's way too much.
- 1:40:55Speaker 9: We can't let them know.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: I've already gotten in trouble. How many pumps are in it?
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: I had a girl drink during a Catch twenty two.
- 1:41:04Speaker 5: I had like my Starbucks cumpanyer, and I've already heard
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: from Kenny about how you know we're Duncan right, Okay.
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: You're lucky, we're PEPSI too.
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: There.
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, James Skipper's got a Patriots question, Dan Skipper
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: what uh?
- 1:41:17Speaker 4: Oh?
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: All right?
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: Love the show, guys, but Catch twenty two might be
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: beating you guys now, only because I could listen to
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: Evan curse at Barth all day. It's incredible.
- 1:41:26Speaker 4: Listening to Evan and Barth like banter, It's incredible.
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: It's magic. When Evan started working here and it was
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: like we got to figure out a way to just
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: keep these two together. I mean, like, honestly, you just
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: probably go back to like twenty twelve maybe, where it's
- 1:41:39Speaker 1: like we got Mike AsSalt from Pat's Propaganda here joining Evan,
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: and you.
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: Know, like we used to do that, been doing it
- 1:41:47Speaker 5: for so long that we just know how to push
- 1:41:49Speaker 5: each other's buttons and we know what's going to get
- 1:41:52Speaker 5: like a rise out of each other.
- 1:41:54Speaker 9: Where you can scream at each other and then five
- 1:41:56Speaker 9: minutes later be like one of.
- 1:41:57Speaker 5: These Oh yeah, Like we argued about Shanahan per usual
- 1:42:01Speaker 5: after the super Bowl and like it got pretty I
- 1:42:04Speaker 5: was like I might have said a few swears, like
- 1:42:07Speaker 5: got a pretty heated, and after the show we're like, yeah,
- 1:42:09Speaker 5: we're good, Yeah, we're good.
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: Yeah. We don't even like say like we're good.
- 1:42:12Speaker 6: It just is like, is not breaking up that friendship?
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: That's good foods. That's what's kind of funny too, Like
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: Paul's mentioned it before that you know, they have like
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: certain shows that not that it's ever really gotten all
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: that like intense, certainly between me and him, like Fred
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: and Paul. Sometimes they get into a little sometimes Fred
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: and Paul I get worried, but I do walk out
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: that red door right there, and then it's just like,
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: oh that was a good show. Yeah, good times, fun times,
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: you know, like you guys are crazy. But now they're
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: they're you know and again like it's like, what are
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: you arguing about? I can't Like if I could find
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: an angle to get in on this, I would try.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: But they're just they're experts. That's what they do.
- 1:42:42Speaker 8: Uh.
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: Good question from Joe here. I think it's a good one.
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: We understand that there are different avenues for the Patriots
- 1:42:48Speaker 1: to take regarding the number three pick, but thirty four
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: is not talked about enough. With the receiver tackle being
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: so deep in this draft, could you see them trading
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: up to the mid to late first round. If so,
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: what would Hakaj look like?
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: I love that question, yeah, because this is something I've
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: been thinking about too. Obviously, you can't do what the
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: Houston Texans did because you don't have a high enough
- 1:43:08Speaker 5: pick to go, you know, that high up. But a
- 1:43:12Speaker 5: mini version of what the Texans did, I would absolutely
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: be all four, you know, trade up from thirty four.
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: I'll let's say twenty to twenty five range, and maybe
- 1:43:22Speaker 5: you do get that last premium receiver, that last premium tackle.
- 1:43:26Speaker 5: At the end of the day, the picks are only
- 1:43:28Speaker 5: as good as the players they turn into. So if
- 1:43:30Speaker 5: you're gonna sit there and you're gonna watch the parade
- 1:43:32Speaker 5: go by at receiver at tackle because you're too far
- 1:43:35Speaker 5: out of the of the show, then.
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: Go up and get it. Makes me appreciate Matt Light
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: because he was that's you know, that's why they took
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Seymour in the first round, and they took matt Light
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: at the top of the second. And you know, just
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: looking at some of the tackles, which you know we
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: mentioned before you've seen mock drafts, there's nine tackles in
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: the first round, but even as you get down into
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: like eight nine, like they're not sure fire day one
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: starters in that group. So you know, for matt Light,
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: as you know, in different class, different year, different everything,
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: but still to be able to get a starter with
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: that pick, it feels like that would make sense. If
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: you don't think you got a starter day one at
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: that spot, maybe you do bump up a little bit
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: and just try to hit some of the the bigger.
- 1:44:10Speaker 5: Needs bigger we do the mock drafts, like I tackle,
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: you know, the top of the second round guys, or
- 1:44:16Speaker 5: like Jordan Morgan from Arizona who's got shorter arms is
- 1:44:19Speaker 5: and it doesn't have like that ideal tackle build. Patrick
- 1:44:23Speaker 5: Paul from Houston, who's a freak, you know, big athlete,
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: but is really really raw and probably isn't like a
- 1:44:28Speaker 5: day one starter. Like these are the guys that we're
- 1:44:31Speaker 5: talking about. Fatanu from Washington who's also another like guard
- 1:44:35Speaker 5: build really that's gonna could play tackle. So maybe it
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: is or Mims from Georgia, who basically has only started
- 1:44:43Speaker 5: like eight games his entire collegiate career. Is does really
- 1:44:46Speaker 5: really raw player.
- 1:44:47Speaker 6: You see the video him in high school.
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: By the way, Oh no, he's he's a freak, don't
- 1:44:51Speaker 5: get me wrong. But he started I think it's seven
- 1:44:55Speaker 5: or eight games at Georgia over the last two years,
- 1:44:57Speaker 5: and then he was hurt for a good portion of
- 1:44:59Speaker 5: the year last year. So you're basically just going off trades,
- 1:45:03Speaker 5: like you're this guy is big and got good feet
- 1:45:06Speaker 5: and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: But you're basically just going off trades.
- 1:45:09Speaker 5: So you're trading up ten picks so that maybe you
- 1:45:12Speaker 5: do land it, you know, somebody that's a little bit
- 1:45:14Speaker 5: more of a sure thing.
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: I think makes a lot of sense. It's so crazy,
- 1:45:16Speaker 1: like I failing to think of a specific example, but
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: I'm sure you can think of one. Like just going
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: to the combine and especially with like offensive linemen, and
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: you see some of these guys walk in whereas like
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: you are just an absolute giant human being and then
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: it's like they're a total bust. You know, like the
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: guy's six seven three pounds and bust bust. No, he's
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: like out of the again. It's just it's it's crazy.
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: How not even when you have monumental size or you know,
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: any of these traits like it does it never guarantees anything,
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: especially as that size.
- 1:45:45Speaker 9: It's like, how do you carry that on your frame?
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: RK Now gonna go be like a regular person in
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: the world is like six seven.
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: Three ring next to a guy like you remember Devandre
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: Sweat from Singer Bowl.
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he's I mean I don't have to stand
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: next to him.
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: He's like he didn't want to weigh He didn't measure
- 1:46:04Speaker 5: in at the Senior Bowl because he weighs. He doesn't
- 1:46:06Speaker 5: want teams to know how much he weighs.
- 1:46:07Speaker 1: Like three forty. I think it's gonna be.
- 1:46:09Speaker 5: I think at the Senior Bowl he probably would have
- 1:46:11Speaker 5: been like three sixty five.
- 1:46:13Speaker 4: Well we'll find out the combin Oh yeah, it's hard
- 1:46:17Speaker 4: for their.
- 1:46:17Speaker 9: Bodies sold to like look at a guy like like
- 1:46:19Speaker 9: not to take it to the NBA.
- 1:46:20Speaker 7: But like Zion Williamson, I covered him when he was
- 1:46:23Speaker 7: in high school at Hoopault and like when he would
- 1:46:25Speaker 7: come down from a dunk.
- 1:46:26Speaker 9: The whole gym would just like shake and you're like,
- 1:46:28Speaker 9: how do you move like that? But it only lasts
- 1:46:30Speaker 9: for so long.
- 1:46:31Speaker 6: To go to the food capital of the South all
- 1:46:33Speaker 6: the time. But we got to drink water, the water
- 1:46:40Speaker 6: drinking water.
- 1:46:40Speaker 5: You see it with Trent Brown, Like how many high
- 1:46:43Speaker 5: quality reps can you put into a game at that size?
- 1:46:47Speaker 5: Like there's gonna be reps where you're gonna have to
- 1:46:49Speaker 5: take take a playoff like there just is. And I
- 1:46:51Speaker 5: think in Cleveland, Dewan Jones, who we all really liked.
- 1:46:55Speaker 5: That's I think what the Cleveland staff was starting to
- 1:46:57Speaker 5: figure out about him is that he it's not that
- 1:47:00Speaker 5: he's lazy, he just it's a lot.
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: It's a lot of right. So yeah, a nice email
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: here from from our friend Claire, who I'm sure should
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: be I haven't heard from Claire yet, but I think
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: she should be very excited that I that the tight
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: Ends coaches went to my high school. So you know,
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: I got a personal relationship. It's getting a lot of
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: plays just for your Claire. Oh Will I told everybody
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: I want to be super annoying about I got to
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: get out of here. Yeah, but you know, but I
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: mean it was. I mean, he was the star of
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: the team. Like so imagine yourself as like an eight
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: year old You're going to the high school, you know,
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: going to the high school football team. And this was
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: back in the day when you know, everybody went to
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: the game, especially Thanksgiving when it was Holliston West with
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: a whole you know, and he was the man. His
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: dad was coaching at BC. But you know, it was
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: it was crazy time because his dad was coaching at
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: BC the same time that that Doug Flutie was happening.
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: So Doug Flutie won. You know, there were like spoof
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: songs on the radio like two d Flutie and you
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: know and and and his son Bob, and Holliston was
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: taking them to the Super Bowl. So it's just such
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: a time that's ingrained in my mind. I really don't
- 1:47:56Speaker 1: know if I'd love football as much if not for
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: like those days, going to those games, games, and you know,
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: just loving the atmosphere of football and all of that
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: goes into it.
- 1:48:03Speaker 6: So it's Letterman jacket.
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: Yeah, but I wasn't that crazy. But but no great
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: guy and you know know some Holy Cross guys that
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: went to bec and stuff. So it was cool, but anyway,
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: I digress, Claire writes in just a quick off season
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: kind of email. Tomorrow, I celebrate my third anniversary of
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: a Claire perspective, Bodkayer. I recorded my eighty eighth show today,
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: and part of the reason I'm here is you, guys.
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: I won't bore you with a huge thank you, no
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: smushing message, but simple appreciation to you for all this,
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: all this for the show and all the support for
- 1:48:34Speaker 1: my show. Deuce was guest on my episode one. A
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: massive thank you to Pu and Patination. Without you, I
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: wouldn't be who I am today. So congrats to Claire.
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: And I think like when she started and I gave
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: her like our blogger advice, which is like just keep going,
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: like you just have to keep going. You can't do
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: four episodes and be like where's my deal? Like yeah,
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: eighty eight areas. She's still grinding. And even when I
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: I mean, Evan, you guys had a pot?
- 1:48:57Speaker 6: What did you did?
- 1:48:57Speaker 1: You guys? Just start you and Alex just a podcast.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: We have so many random names.
- 1:49:02Speaker 3: I did.
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: I did a past propaganda and friends with Eric friends
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: who was an old writer from Buyer Globe. He was
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: a good guy, got out of it. But it's funny
- 1:49:10Speaker 1: because I look back at some of those on blog
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: Talk Radio, which was like a website that came out
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: that you know, you basically just produce a blog from
- 1:49:15Speaker 1: your computer. And it's crazy because we, I mean, Greg Badar,
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: you know, got all the guests that we were beating
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: the bushes for doing the same thing that Claire was doing.
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: So anybody that starts this stuff, that's just what I
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: tell him. You gotta stick with it, you gotta. I
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: mean I I think I wrote my first blog about
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: the Patriots in December of two thousand and seven, and
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I got a job here in twenty nineteen, so twelve
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: years I just wrote about the Patriots on my own
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: podcast and on my own no one telling me to
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: do it. I loved it, love of the game. It
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: takes a while.
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: My very first podcast was in my college dorm room
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: with my college roommates and wasn't Barth at the time somehow,
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: but you know, that was it. And I got a
- 1:49:51Speaker 5: great piece of advice from from somebody, actually, I think
- 1:49:54Speaker 5: it might have been John Wallack of all people, and
- 1:49:57Speaker 5: he said, you know who is your favorite Patriots?
- 1:49:59Speaker 10: Right?
- 1:50:00Speaker 5: And I said, Mike Grease, and he said, just act
- 1:50:02Speaker 5: like Mike Grease, like you're not Mike Greece, but just
- 1:50:05Speaker 5: like fake it till you make it. Like you know
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: what he what he does, you know, watch what he does,
- 1:50:09Speaker 5: read what he does, and just don't steal it. But
- 1:50:12Speaker 5: like just the work ethic and you know all that
- 1:50:14Speaker 5: kind of stuff and just you know, follow his lead.
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: And when I got on the beat, that's literally exactly
- 1:50:19Speaker 5: what I did.
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: So I'm amazed by Mike Greese's it's not competitive stamina,
- 1:50:24Speaker 1: it's like professional stamina to continue to cover the team
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: and the way that he does so thoroughly through the
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: ups and downs, through you know, I mean, it's you
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: can feel the vibe around the team in the last
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: few years when they weren't as good and it wasn't
- 1:50:36Speaker 1: just this like oh my god, like you know, we
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: got Tom Brady and Julian Edelman and like the fact,
- 1:50:40Speaker 1: you know, parade of stars that there were to write
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: about and anything you could kind of talk about was interesting.
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: And I just that's what's been amazing to watch Mike
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: over these years, and uh, you know, is just continue
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: to do what he does even though the team isn't
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: that great. He continues to be that that guy that
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: everybody knows that he is, and I mean just you know,
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: so pointed with his questions and you know, smart about it,
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: always respect full of Bill. I think we all kind
- 1:51:01Speaker 1: of feel bad when Bill would kind of like, you know,
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: it's like my grease, Bill, come on, it's he's delicately
- 1:51:05Speaker 1: trying to ask you this stuff and I don't know,
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: you know, blowing off Mike. But but true professional and
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: great advice. But still I would say, plenty of room
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: to cover the team your way, you know, and that's
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: what's yeah of yourself.
- 1:51:18Speaker 5: The way that he like the it was more just
- 1:51:21Speaker 5: you know, the professionalism that he went about it. I
- 1:51:23Speaker 5: think that stood out to me because him and I
- 1:51:25Speaker 5: probably covered the team pretty differently, honestly, but it just
- 1:51:29Speaker 5: his professionalism, his work ethic, and he's at everything, you know,
- 1:51:35Speaker 5: and everything. I feel like that's a big part of
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: it too. When you first are starting out, you have
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: to you have to be on the scene for every
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: little like there's no training camp practice that's too big,
- 1:51:47Speaker 5: you know.
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: So and was a writer here first was you know,
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: it was crazy to me Fred. Imagine if Fred the
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: early starmaker that that Fred was.
- 1:51:56Speaker 3: Matt.
- 1:51:56Speaker 1: There was an an email here Bet. Big mistake last Thursday.
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: Big mistake by Matt. One of the trivia questions who
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: was scored? Who scored the first touchdown in Super Bowl
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: forty nine? Matt said it was Gronk. In fact, it
- 1:52:06Speaker 1: was bringing problem with the trivia questions.
- 1:52:09Speaker 6: Hold on, hold on, It wasn't first touchdown, it was
- 1:52:11Speaker 6: first who caught the first pass of Super forty nine?
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: Oh all right, well, just Ron Burgundy.
- 1:52:16Speaker 6: I read what's in front of me.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: I'm Matt Morrel, Ricky and Connecticut just chimes in. There's
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: no such thing as blowing the swings. It's a tender.
- 1:52:25Speaker 9: Wow, thank you, thank you, sir.
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: Oh No, Chris Cassidy got a bad tender the other day, Harret.
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: Oh god, yeah, there's a difference. But we don't have
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: time to do this. No, but once you get a
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: bad tender, I mean we as everybody had a bad
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: chicken McNugget. I don't want not the McDonald's guy, but
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: everybody's had a bad chicken McNugget.
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: Right back in the day before it was all white meat. Yes,
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: do you remember that?
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: I used to think that.
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: Remember there's like one that's kind of shaped like a fish.
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: And remember, I mean, I'm sure bring the.
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: Chicken. The Chicken selects were fire.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: The rectangles fire. The rectangles were.
- 1:52:59Speaker 9: The no one scared me, the ones that are stuck together.
- 1:53:04Speaker 4: There was nothing better than Chicken select. Chicken Selects were ten.
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: Out of ten McDonald's fries to hold up.
- 1:53:11Speaker 9: Sure, still great, They're not as good as they used
- 1:53:14Speaker 9: to be. Do you have the McDonald's and Germany fries,
- 1:53:17Speaker 9: those chili cheesebergs.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: Well, not all of us could go to McDonald's in Germany.
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: What did they have there? I'm just kidding. You've told
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: me everything. Five guys, everything you could ever want. That
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: guys saved my life in Germany.
- 1:53:29Speaker 6: Like I was just in such a bad place.
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: I was so jet lagged, and like you didn't want
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: the breakfast and I wanted like just an ice drink like.
- 1:53:40Speaker 9: Sara.
- 1:53:43Speaker 6: We didn't get to go.
- 1:53:44Speaker 9: I went twice.
- 1:53:45Speaker 6: Evan and I were looking for some brats and the
- 1:53:48Speaker 6: lady was like, there's this old German lady who like
- 1:53:51Speaker 6: makes homemade brought worse and we couldn't find her.
- 1:53:53Speaker 9: The problems is a lot of those places are cash only, and.
- 1:53:56Speaker 6: You always leave something to go back for.
- 1:53:58Speaker 1: There you go, there you go. I'm it will be that.
- 1:54:02Speaker 6: Maybe.
- 1:54:02Speaker 9: Sorry, sorry, Brazil, we're going to get We're going to
- 1:54:07Speaker 9: have just.
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: Skater quick one from Tyler D and n y C.
- 1:54:15Speaker 6: Why is it called special teams?
- 1:54:18Speaker 10: Is that?
- 1:54:19Speaker 4: Is that a real question?
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: I like philosophical questions.
- 1:54:22Speaker 10: I don't know that that type of question could get
- 1:54:25Speaker 10: a twenty minute response from Bill.
- 1:54:27Speaker 4: A special team?
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: Right, Well, it's specialists, special list for specialists or special teams.
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: Well that's a twenty minute answer from Bill. Why are
- 1:54:39Speaker 1: we special? What's so special about it? I don't get it.
- 1:54:41Speaker 6: It takes special skills to play on specialty?
- 1:54:43Speaker 4: Can you just google this?
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: That's the kind of and that's the answer.
- 1:54:48Speaker 6: It's from the It's from West Virginia News. Okay, right uh.
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: Kendall just says a big fan of the show. I'm here.
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: You guys will be at the combine. I will also
- 1:54:57Speaker 1: be there as part of the scouting course I take,
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: and I hope to get up with you guys and
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: get a picture. Kendall, We would all be happy to
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: take a picture with you, and and Evan will probably
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: ask you questions about your scouting.
- 1:55:07Speaker 27: Course early for you I was gonna say I've taken
- 1:55:11Speaker 27: I've taken some courses in my day, so I.
- 1:55:15Speaker 4: Was gonna say a scouting course. That sounds like just
- 1:55:17Speaker 4: like you, Evan, I won't say that.
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: Never mind, you're gonna go to the UH should go
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: to the coaches thing in early March, the clinic.
- 1:55:25Speaker 5: I have wanted to go to that now, especially the coordinators.
- 1:55:28Speaker 5: I think we're talking at it the Pictriots coordinators, so
- 1:55:31Speaker 5: that'd be cool. Yeah, I've done some of those scouting courses.
- 1:55:35Speaker 5: They're they're good if you like are just start really
- 1:55:38Speaker 5: just starting to to try to learn the game.
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: Yeah, good stuff. I don't know you guys. I tried
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: to get through all these emails, and I think I
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: got through most of them. Some some real draft minutia,
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: which you know, as everybody's got their opinions on Drake
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: may and and Jade and Daniels and all that. But
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: I'm just gonna take the last part of this one
- 1:55:57Speaker 1: from Jonah. How many tackles does Hi Tower having training camp?
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: How many times will Mayo have to tell him not
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: to try and suit up during the season?
- 1:56:03Speaker 9: He looked like, yes, and I were talking about this.
- 1:56:10Speaker 9: The Crisp Patriots, you can tell you.
- 1:56:13Speaker 5: And he said that he had just come from a workout,
- 1:56:15Speaker 5: like he was like sweat still like dripping down his face,
- 1:56:17Speaker 5: and I was like, dude, you know that you're not playing.
- 1:56:21Speaker 1: It was like it was the same old high tower
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: that I always remember would like peek through the door
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: at the end of the locker room and see the
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: media was in there and be like nope.
- 1:56:30Speaker 5: It's so funny because I when I talked to him
- 1:56:32Speaker 5: for the Mayo thing, I was like, you're like really
- 1:56:34Speaker 5: good at this, Like you're good at and Jamie Collins
- 1:56:36Speaker 5: was really good for that as well. And those two
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: guys used to dodge us like like no other. And
- 1:56:41Speaker 5: I was like, but you're good at it. You're really
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: good at telling stories and stuff. I don't know why
- 1:56:46Speaker 5: you guys hated talking to us so much.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: It's cool having him back. I mean, it's just again
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: it just goes to just the broad array of coaches
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: that they've come in. I mean, it's just it's it's
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: a lot to take in. I mean, I feel like
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: as a content team, there's probably a lot of stories
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: that we could probably you know, find amongst these guys.
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: But you know, one last thing I'll say is as
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: we get ready to wrap up here was I thought
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: it was interesting Drew yesterday, saying, like I'm a first
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: year head coach, like not everybody gets the staff right
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: on the first try, and we're just going to kind
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: of go with it. Like I kind of liked how
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: we at least acknowledge, like, you know, there was a
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: lot of moving pieces this offseason, and I mean he
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: hired something around twenty new guys that are all coming
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: in with various backgrounds, and it's you know, going to
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: be his job to pull all these guys together and
- 1:57:23Speaker 1: you know, try to find a central you know, string
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: to bring what's our team going to be, what's our philosophy.
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: But just my last thought was, you know, coming out
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: of those meetings, it's like, if I was a player,
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: I'd want to play for these guys. You know, they
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: seem like they know how to you know, push some
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: the right buttons. But we'll see, Like at the end
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: of the day, for as prickly as Bill was, you
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: want to win, and that's what That's what the bottom
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: line is going to be for everybody.
- 1:57:43Speaker 9: That's the thing.
- 1:57:44Speaker 7: It's like it's like with a parent, you don't necessarily
- 1:57:46Speaker 7: want your parents to be your best friend, but also
- 1:57:48Speaker 7: you don't.
- 1:57:48Speaker 9: Want them to be too strict. Like there's that fine balance, right, dude.
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: That really hit home for dude. I'm not going to
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: get into it right now.
- 1:57:53Speaker 9: We don't need to delve into the childhood Trump and
- 1:57:56Speaker 9: we do a kid's show.
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: No, I have pet peeve that people are like, I,
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: you're my best friend with your significant other, And I'm like,
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: I have a big pet peeve with that. Why Because
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: if there's significant other, your best friend is something different
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: than your like married wife, Like, but I want you
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: to be my best because you need a best friend
- 1:58:10Speaker 1: to talk about your wife.
- 1:58:15Speaker 9: Just a quick shout out shot where you wrap up.
- 1:58:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
