- 0:09With the symbol tools we source is a mindset to get you there.
- 0:13I am determined to show you the reality of navigating the medical space as a patient caregiver and loved ones.
- 0:21So you can be empowered and take back the most precious and important asset of your life, which is your health.
- 0:28Let's get ready.
- 0:30Comfortable and get started Yes.
- 0:32Hello, everyone.
- 0:33Welcome to this session.
- 0:36And if you are new to my platform, you've never seen me.
- 0:39This is your first time connecting with me or listening to any of my info sessions.
- 0:45My name is Dr.
- 0:46Jennifer Genti, and I am a functional medicine.
- 0:50doctor and my goal is to help my patients identify the root causes of their digestive issues, weight loss, hormonal imbalance, because I am a firm believer until you know what the root causes are, it's going to be very challenging for you to heal your body.
- 1:08I really don't care what anybody says about this, because having done this work for 10 years now, oh my god, I've been practicing functional medicine for 10 years, and I've been in the medical field for almost 20 years, like, being a practitioner on the conventional side and now functional medicine, a mixture of both for a long time.
- 1:26So I've.
- 1:27I've done a lot of mistakes, you know, with my patients.
- 1:30I was just one of those doctors that will just spend five, 10, 15 minutes with the patients not really knowing what the causes are, And to hand you a prescription, a pill.
- 1:40And I've learned that I went to medicine, medical school, I went to, To help people, not to just give them a pill for the ill, and that's exactly what we're going to talk about.
- 1:49So if you have any digestive issues, hormonal imbalance, weight gain issues, I'm your girl.
- 1:55And again, my job is to always identify the root causes, because we don't want to be throwing spaghetti at the wall.
- 2:02We don't want to be guessing.
- 2:04Let's try this.
- 2:05Let's try that.
- 2:06So working with a functional medicine doctor, if that doctor is not focusing on identifying the root causes, it's just going to be like a conventional medicine doctor with a label of functional medicine.
- 2:15But today I want to talk to you guys about why conventional medicine would not help you.
- 2:21Now, This is not to bash conventional medicine because I still use some features of conventional medicine in my practice today.
- 2:29For instance, people will come to me with Poison IV, I will prescribe Poisonzone.
- 2:34If you come to me with Shingles, I will give you Valtrex.
- 2:38So I still prescribe when it's necessary.
- 2:40I had a patient that was, you know, traveled out of the state and she ended up with a urinary tract infection.
- 2:47I mean, I can't give her herbs, can I?
- 2:49So what did we do?
- 2:50We actually prescribe one dose of macrobate.
- 2:53So I still prescribe.
- 2:54So when you watch this video, are you watching this on my YouTube or listening to this on my podcast?
- 3:00I don't want you to think that I am completely against conventional medicine.
- 3:03I'm not.
- 3:04I have love for all of the things that are beneficial in healing our bodies.
- 3:09If we have a tool that's going to help us.
- 3:11Yes.
- 3:12My personal opinion, And this is me.
- 3:15I mean, I am an emergency room doc.
- 3:17I was trained in the emergency room.
- 3:20Now I am a fully functional medicine practitioner, but still do what I need to do to help my patients feel better when it's necessary.
- 3:28If it means for me to prescribe a medication, guess what?
- 3:30I'm going to prescribe the meds for one, two, three days.
- 3:33Max, but it's, it's all about the people, the person that's in front of me, what I need to do to help them.
- 3:39So I am not against conventional medicine.
- 3:42And if you believe in conventional medicine, you're watching this, if you get triggered, I'm not going to apologize.
- 3:47I want you to really sit with yourself and find out why.
- 3:49Because we live in a sick, sick world, in a sick country, and I don't know about you, I have yet to find one person in a conventional space that actually is healing the bodies, right?
- 4:01We might be taking the pill and thinking that, oh, my symptoms are going away.
- 4:05Guess what?
- 4:06The minute you stop taking the pill, they will come back.
- 4:08So if you can tell me, Dr.
- 4:09J, I love conventional medicine and that's all I need because I'm taking the medication.
- 4:15I'm doing all of the things my conventional Western medicine doctor is telling me and I'm healing my body.
- 4:20I'm feeling great.
- 4:20I have no side effects and I can actually function and thrive in this body I was created and born with.
- 4:26Continue.
- 4:27So I want to talk to you about why conventional medicine cannot help you.
- 4:30When I went to school, I was, I had a desire, a strong desire to help people.
- 4:35I'm like, wow, I'm going to be a famous doctor.
- 4:37People are going to love me.
- 4:39I'm going to heal the bodies.
- 4:40They're going to come to me with all kinds of issues.
- 4:42And I'm just going to just give them a solution.
- 4:45And next thing you know, poof, they are healed.
- 4:47Now I'm going to go to school.
- 4:48Of course, my journey is different than most.
- 4:50I had to go through many, you know, like I had to face a lot of obstacles to get to where I am, but one thing that I realized, the goal, the desire that I have, the passion that I have for conventional medicine was literally taken away from me.
- 5:04The first time I practiced.
- 5:06Here I am a young fresh practitioner In the emergency room, I did some hospitalist job.
- 5:11I also rounded in nursing homes, didn't like it.
- 5:14I did some primary care, didn't like it.
- 5:16I'm like, you know what, I'm just going to stick to emergency room.
- 5:18That's where I was trained.
- 5:19I can just stabilize people's body and then send them to, you know, follow up with the doctors.
- 5:24Because I'm like, they come to me sick and they live in stabilized.
- 5:27So I did something I realized all I was doing is prescribing.
- 5:30I was like, wait a minute, what's happening?
- 5:32Why can't I just spend time with these people?
- 5:35No, no, you can't.
- 5:36Why?
- 5:37Because we have, the demand is high.
- 5:39We have a lobby full of people and these people, we're not really looking to see what's going with them.
- 5:46We're just prescribing.
- 5:47So I quickly realized that conventional medicine wasn't for me.
- 5:50I quickly realized that the medication that I was prescribing was actually endangering people.
- 5:55I quickly realized that the longer you stay on the medication, the longer the risk, the increased the risk is for you to get the side effects, to experience the side effects.
- 6:05And one thing that I realized, Before, when I was practicing, all the side effects were not visible on Google, Dr.
- 6:11Google.
- 6:12Now the FDA is making sure that the companies, the pharmaceutical companies, are listing all the side effects.
- 6:19Do you ever wonder why you can actually get prescribed medication, go on Google, Google it up, and you see all the things, Do you?
- 6:27Even in the commercials, when you have those happy people running across The TV holding hands.
- 6:32I'm happy because I took a biologic Do you ever realize why at the bottom of the screen or really in like very fast, you know, they just give you all the side effects.
- 6:42This medication can, you know, kill your kidney and infections and endanger your liver.
- 6:47Do you wonder why?
- 6:49Because at the end of the day, medications are used to stabilize.
- 6:53Medications are used to decrease the symptoms.
- 6:56Medications are not used to stabilize.
- 6:58for cure.
- 6:58There's no way you can cure a body.
- 7:00It's not happening with medications.
- 7:02So they are just like we have flaws in everything.
- 7:06Conventional medicine has a lot of flaws.
- 7:08and I'm going to do another live, maybe, you know, next week, talking about why functional medicine might not be the answer for you, I don't want them to put all the eggs in one basket, Again, I still believe there's a place for conventional medicine.
- 7:21But what people are doing, what I'm realizing is that everybody's focusing on conventional medicine, completely ignoring functional medicine, where 90 percent should 90%, 90 percent of your interest should be in functional 10 percent of conventional medicine.
- 7:38So why?
- 7:39And then I did this, Information, InfoSession, this live or this YouTube video, you know, wherever you're watching or listening to this came about because I am seeing patients come into my practice after seeing a zillion doctors.
- 7:54I'm seeing patients come into my practice confused.
- 7:57They're like, I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.
- 7:59I'm actually doing, seeing all the doctors.
- 8:01Literally, Dr.
- 8:02Gentile, I'm doing everything the doctor's asking me to do.
- 8:04Why am I still tired?
- 8:06Why do I, why am I still anxious?
- 8:09Why do I still have gut issues?
- 8:11Why am I not losing the weight already?
- 8:13Why my hair's falling off?
- 8:14My edges, like I'm getting alopecia.
- 8:16Why my skin, the acne is not going away.
- 8:19I'm seeing the dermatologist, my autoimmune is actually getting worse, My lupus, my MS, my RA is getting worse.
- 8:25My diabetic numbers are not improved and I'm taking the medication, I'm doing the weight loss situation.
- 8:31Why?
- 8:32And I'm like, okay, I need to talk about this.
- 8:34I really need to talk about this because having been on both sides, I did a six years in conventional and now it's 10 years and functional.
- 8:42Yes, I am knowledgeable.
- 8:44I can be the person sitting here to tell you what will be beneficial for you.
- 8:47So here are the flaws of conventional medicine, and this is why conventional medicine will not help you, will not help you.
- 8:55If you believe in medications and seeing your doctor for 15 minutes and doing all the testing, carry on.
- 9:01But I also want you to sit with yourself and be like, okay, am I getting better?
- 9:04Is this medication really eliminating my, my symptoms or is this just numbing?
- 9:09Like we have a headache, we pop some Tylenol or some Atriptin.
- 9:13Like is the headache really going away?
- 9:15Did headache really go away?
- 9:17We have, you know, hormonal imbalance.
- 9:19We just went to see our conventional doctor that specializes in bio identical hormone replacement therapy, and he or she gave us some patches and some cream to put on your vagina, put progesterone on.
- 9:29Am I really getting better?
- 9:31so the first thing that I would love for you to consider, And also talk to you about when it comes to conventional medicine, it's the visit.
- 9:38There is no way you can spend 15 minutes with your doctor and for your doctor to know what's going on with you.
- 9:44No way.
- 9:45No way.
- 9:45Now I can, I will fight somebody on this.
- 9:47Well, we are lovers.
- 9:48They were not fighters, but I'm letting you know when my patients used to come to the clinic I was working at, I had some, urgent care experience, emergency experience, primary care as I mentioned, I wasn't studying the cases before they come.
- 10:01There's no way.
- 10:01So I'm just waiting the person what I walked into the room.
- 10:04The person is sitting there.
- 10:05Hi, my name is, you know, Dr.
- 10:07Gentile.
- 10:07I heard you have, you know, your blood pressure is elevated.
- 10:10What's going on?
- 10:11Maybe ask a few questions about how high it is.
- 10:14When did you notice it?
- 10:15Like some questions like that.
- 10:17And then in 15 minutes, I'm handing you a pill.
- 10:19Oh, a prescription.
- 10:20Back in the days, I used to have samples in my, in my clinic, I used to have samples.
- 10:23We used to have those lovely pharmaceutical reps that used to come and visit us.
- 10:27And they used to bring us lunch and breakfast and dinner so that we can promote the pills.
- 10:31I give them samples.
- 10:32I'm like, Oh, there's this new medication that just came out.
- 10:35That is fantastic.
- 10:37I never discussed the side effects with my patients.
- 10:39I don't have time.
- 10:40I have like 300 people waiting for me, and I'm told that I'm supposed to see 20 patients in one hour.
- 10:46I mean, I'm exaggerating, in one day, maybe 13, maybe 10, in one day.
- 10:51So you think I have time to really ask you the proper questions?
- 10:54No! You're gonna see the nurse, the nurse gonna walk you up, take your blood pressure, maybe listen to your heart, and put all this wonderful information on your phone.
- 11:02And then I walked in here, introduced myself and here we are 15 minutes.
- 11:06I'm out.
- 11:07I didn't ask you, did you sleep?
- 11:08I didn't ask you anything about the, again, I might ask a little bit about the onset, but like go into detail about the onset.
- 11:14I didn't ask you if you have any food sensitivities.
- 11:17I didn't ask you what supplements you're taking that could be interacting.
- 11:20I didn't ask you about your stress level.
- 11:22I didn't ask you if you have done other things to mitigate this.
- 11:25Nothing.
- 11:25I don't have time.
- 11:26And to be honest with you, conventional doctors don't care.
- 11:29They already know we are, we programmed in our mind to give you the pill.
- 11:3315 minutes.
- 11:34Hi, how are you?
- 11:35I'm Dr.
- 11:35Jen.
- 11:36Okay.
- 11:36Here's the pill, goodbye.
- 11:37And then you come back and you're like, well, Dr.
- 11:39Genzi, you gave me this pill, it's not working.
- 11:41My blood pressure is still elevated.
- 11:42Oh, I'm still anxious.
- 11:44I'm still moody.
- 11:45I'm still irritable.
- 11:45My PMS is killing me.
- 11:47My symptoms are taking over my life.
- 11:48I'm still not sleeping, really.
- 11:50My headaches is not going away.
- 11:52You need to go see the neurologist.
- 11:54You need to go see the endocrinologist.
- 11:56You need to go see the whatever, the GI doctor, gastroenterologist, Now we have to do all this testing.
- 12:01We don't have time to spend with you to know who you are.
- 12:05What would be the best fit for you?
- 12:06We don't have time.
- 12:07We don't have time.
- 12:08That is the truth.
- 12:09And then, but why do we consistently go to the conventional medicine doctors?
- 12:13Because it's covered by insurance, but guess what?
- 12:16The insurance is literally telling the doctors how much time to spend with you.
- 12:20Yeah.
- 12:20Like the longer the doctor spend with you, there's a high risk.
- 12:22That doctor is not going to be reimbursed.
- 12:24So that's the first floor is the short, office visit.
- 12:27I don't know about you, but if I am seeing a doctor, I'm taking the time and energy and I'm driving to somebody's office, I would love to be heard and seen.
- 12:35I would love for someone to take time and actually listen to me because my body is communicating with me.
- 12:41The symptoms or ways of my body telling me that something is wrong, If I'm coming to you and I'm gassing and bloating.
- 12:46And I've had those gas and bloating issues for weeks.
- 12:49It's not just last night.
- 12:50My stomach is hurting.
- 12:51It's like, Oh my God, I can't, my, I can't fit into my pants.
- 12:55I look like I'm pregnant all of the time.
- 12:57My brain fog is taking over my life.
- 12:59I can't function because I'm forgetful and foggy all of the time.
- 13:03I can't sleep because I can't sleep.
- 13:05I have this headache.
- 13:05Everything I eat hurts.
- 13:07I'm getting this rash and you just, I'm just seeing you for 15 minutes.
- 13:11Like you think I have time to really go over and tell you all of the things.
- 13:14So yeah, I'm getting, I'm looking at the, Instagram.
- 13:17Some people are commenting.
- 13:18Thank you for your comment.
- 13:20So yes, 15 minutes, even if you say, well, Dr.
- 13:23Gentile is covered by insurance.
- 13:24I have no copay and I have good insurance, which is going away.
- 13:27There's no such thing as good insurance.
- 13:29Everybody pays for insurance and you said, are you out of network in network?
- 13:33And it determines how the doctor treats you.
- 13:35I'm sorry.
- 13:36This is the truth.
- 13:37If you're in network, doctors don't get paid.
- 13:39Doctors don't get paid in network.
- 13:40It's the, it's the volume game.
- 13:42For us to keep our doors open in network conventional medicine, we got to see so many patients.
- 13:47In network doctors paid a little money in network.
- 13:50So therefore, they're not going to take time to really work you work up or spend the time before.
- 13:54And when you come, it's like, okay, quick fixes.
- 13:57What do we need to give you?
- 13:57What do we need to prescribe?
- 13:59What is the standard of care?
- 14:01Like, and off you go.
- 14:02And if, you know, nobody's checking on you to see what's happening, Like if the medication is working, not working, if your symptoms are improving, not improving, you get the dosage that everybody does.
- 14:13So the first flaw that I would love, I don't know, I was going to say love to get fixed, but it's not going to get fixed.
- 14:18The first thing I want you to consider is the short, brief office visit.
- 14:21How is that going to impact your healing process?
- 14:24Because That doctor used to be me.
- 14:26Again, I'm not bashing doctors.
- 14:28I'm telling you the truth because I need to tell you the truth because people are getting sick.
- 14:32People are getting sick.
- 14:33They are frustrated.
- 14:34They see tons of doctors and it's not the doctor's fault.
- 14:37It's not your fault.
- 14:38It's not your fault.
- 14:39Trust me.
- 14:39It's not your fault.
- 14:40But you also have to look at the doctor's view as well.
- 14:43We don't have time.
- 14:44We got to see so many people.
- 14:45The demand is high.
- 14:46And then we don't have enough.
- 14:48Doctors right now are living medicine.
- 14:50Doctors are burnt out, overwhelmed, unhappy, depressed.
- 14:54Mental illness is huge in the medical field.
- 14:58We don't talk about it because it's like with doctors, we're supposed to be like, Ooh, we're doctors.
- 15:01We know, oh, like we went to school.
- 15:03Ooh, prestige.
- 15:04Nonsense.
- 15:05Doctors are not getting paid.
- 15:06Doctors, we have a hefty, you know, like student loans, Doctors are anxious and depressed.
- 15:13unhappy.
- 15:13They are living medicine and those that live medicine, you know, left medicine are making way more money.
- 15:19Then the ones that are staying.
- 15:20So imagine if I'm not happy with the job, the profession that I'm in, I'm not getting supported, And I'm getting people coming to me with like increase, you know, they need me.
- 15:31I'm not even taking care of myself because I got to sit 20 patients in a day.
- 15:34I don't have time for a break.
- 15:35I don't pee.
- 15:36I don't have time to eat lunch.
- 15:37Like it's not happening.
- 15:38We, once you clock in, you go, go, go, go, go.
- 15:40So how am I taking care of myself, We're supposed to take care of us first before we take care of the world.
- 15:45If I am not well, there's no way I can actually be present and give you 100%.
- 15:49It's not happening.
- 15:49So please think about it, Think about how we doctors are not being well, like we can't, we don't have anybody to talk to.
- 15:56I mean, when I was anxious, I was like depressed, driving home crying because I'm like, I'm not making a difference.
- 16:03This lady came to me with an infection, urinary tract infection, urinary tract infection.
- 16:07I gave her antibiotic.
- 16:08And two days she came back with a yeast infection.
- 16:10I'm like, wait a minute.
- 16:11And she's like, doctor, I don't know about you, but when I came to you, I didn't have a yeast infection.
- 16:15Now I'm itchy down there.
- 16:17It's very uncomfortable down there.
- 16:19Not only I'm having burning when I pee, frequency, urgency, but now I'm itchy.
- 16:24What the heck?
- 16:25So, and I'm like, here's a pill.
- 16:26It's Diflucan.
- 16:28You go take this pill to counteract the, you know, the effect of the other pill.
- 16:31Antibiotic, one dose of antibiotic can completely decrease your gut microbiome.
- 16:36Do you understand when you don't have the good normal flora in your gut how it is important?
- 16:41when you don't have that, you are literally exposing your terine, your gut terine, for opportunistic infections.
- 16:49That is why.
- 16:50That is why all of, all of the people that really want to identify the root causes must do a gut panel, whether they have gut issues or not.
- 16:59It doesn't matter because, let me tell you something, when it comes to symptoms, So let me use me as an example.
- 17:04If I were to wake up tomorrow with gas, I'm gassing, I'm bloated, Oh, I have acid reflux.
- 17:09These symptoms have been manifested months before I felt it.
- 17:14So if you feel a symptom, it's not because you just got it the day before.
- 17:17No, no, no, no, no, no, no, the inflammation.
- 17:20It has been there way before.
- 17:22It's because the compounding effect of us not healing, the compounding effects of the toxins, of the gut infections, now you feel it.
- 17:30Whenever you feel the symptoms, I'm telling you, you didn't just get it the day before, the morning of, the week before.
- 17:36It has been there, silently, for months.
- 17:39so when you do a gut panel, every single human being should do a gut panel, a toxicity bundle, hormonal, you know, depending on your age, you are seeing, you are looking and your doctor is evaluating what's there so you can actually nip it in the bud, start fixing it before you start feeling it.
- 17:55let's get back to conventional medicine.
- 17:57So conventional medicine, the short visit, we can be help seeing you.
- 18:01A pill for the ill, Like there's a pill for every single ill.
- 18:04I'm telling you, there's a pill.
- 18:06You have a headache, there's a pill.
- 18:08You have an eye pain, there's a pill.
- 18:10Your skin is rashy, there's a pill.
- 18:13Your toenail is falling off, there's a pill.
- 18:15Your stomach is bad on you, there's a pill.
- 18:18You can't lose the weight, there's a pill, there's an injection.
- 18:21There's autoimmune, there are many pills for autoimmune.
- 18:24So again, it's like, one thing I always ask my patients to really understand.
- 18:29Why is that we have one condition, one health condition, and we have a zillion pills for one thing?
- 18:35Let's take diabetes, Diabetes, type 1, type 2 diabetes.
- 18:39Type 2 diabetes is very common.
- 18:41How many medications do we have for one condition?
- 18:44Right there tells you the pill is not going to help you.
- 18:47Not only do we have pills for diabetes, we have injections for diabetes, Weight gain.
- 18:52How many products we have out there for weight gain?
- 18:54A zillion, There's injections now.
- 18:56I mean, ozempic, semi glutide is just, it's, we are in like, this is the, the era, Like you can literally walk to your corner store and get, get you some semi glutide.
- 19:06Yeah.
- 19:07Like everybody's selling it.
- 19:08It's, you don't have to see a doctor anymore.
- 19:10You can just get you an injection to lose the weight, So I always ask my, I ask my patients, what do you think for cholesterol?
- 19:17One condition, a zillion, zillion medication.
- 19:20Now, the question I asked, I mean, the person I asked this question to, my patient, she's like, well, because not every medication is for everyone.
- 19:27I'm like, okay, that's a fair, that's a fair answer, right?
- 19:30How do you know which medication is for you?
- 19:31She's like, well, the doctor will know.
- 19:33I'm like, oh, because when I went to school, we had standard of care.
- 19:38We start with this pill first.
- 19:39And after this, we increase the, we increase the dosage.
- 19:42If the dosage is not working, we add, and we add, and we add, and we add, and we add.
- 19:47So I start with one medication, and then when I'm done with it, you're on five.
- 19:50If your blood pressure is severely elevated, maybe instead of me giving you Lasix or hydroxychloroctyl azide, maybe I'll give you metropolol.
- 19:56If you have palpitations plus your blood pressure is elevated, hmm, metropolol, because that decreases the heart rate, Maybe I'll give you aminodipine.
- 20:04I don't know.
- 20:05If you have, you know, an autoimmune, you have lupus, maybe I'll give you Plaquenil.
- 20:10so, but if one thing I would love for me, I would have loved to do when I was a conventional medicine is to identify the root causes.
- 20:17If I'm going to prescribe the medications, I should identify the root causes to see how that, what I'm working with, have a clear picture of what's creating the disease, dysfunction.
- 20:26Before I give you the pill, Because when I ask this question, patients will come to me like, well, Dr.
- 20:30J, not everybody is gonna respond and react to the same pill.
- 20:34I'm like, okay, but we have standard of care.
- 20:35Like we, us doctors literally have a book that tells us what to give you, prescribe you.
- 20:39And if it's not covered by insurance, then guess what?
- 20:41We gotta prescribe you the one, the cheapest one.
- 20:43The one that is, like, it's like you have organic, medications, and then you have non organic medications, The organic is superior.
- 20:49So if your insurance doesn't cover the superior meds, then I'm going to give you the one that's not superior, that is cheap, because that's what the insurance is going to cover.
- 20:56Do you guys see?
- 20:57So appeal for the ill.
- 20:58And another, I mean, that should have been my first one is not identifying the root causes.
- 21:02Like, I don't know what's wrong with you.
- 21:04This is a cellular process, If you come to me and you have, you know, increased, thirst, increase food, like eating, And you look a little on the overweight side, maybe I'll say you have metabolic syndrome.
- 21:16Oh, you might have diabetes.
- 21:17Let me do glucose.
- 21:19Let me do hemoglobin A1c.
- 21:21That's it, Because most doctors are not checking insulin for diabetes.
- 21:24Most doctors are not.
- 21:25They're like, oh, your hemoglobin A1c is 6.
- 21:288.
- 21:28You have diabetes.
- 21:29Or your glucose is a hundred.
- 21:30Your fasting glucose, the one that is a reflection of the 24 hour food you ate is a hundred.
- 21:35What is your insulin?
- 21:36So if your insulin is 20, which is completely diabetic, if your insulin is 10, If I don't look at the level of the insulin, how do I know which, how to dose you appropriately?
- 21:47I just give you my formula.
- 21:49The starting dose is 500.
- 21:50So 500 once a day, it doesn't work 500 twice a day.
- 21:54It doesn't work.
- 21:54Let's do it.
- 21:55Let's, let's get your flex spin.
- 21:56That doesn't work.
- 21:57Let's do, you know, like so many medications, But we're not looking at the root causes.
- 22:02So again, people will come to me, they'll be like, well, Dr.
- 22:04Genzi, functional medicine is expensive.
- 22:06It is expensive for you to be suffering.
- 22:08If conventional medicine, if us doctors had the time to really work you up properly, instead of doing the basic blood test, which is the next thing I'm going to talk about, and dose you appropriately with the medications while you are working on your finances, because I know, I know, I know it's a lot of money to hurt your body.
- 22:25I, I don't, to me, I think health is priceless.
- 22:28But that's me.
- 22:28I don't think there's no enough money that will give me, that I cannot spend on myself.
- 22:32I'm worthy of spending the money to get my health.
- 22:35Health is wealth, A lot of us are just going every day.
- 22:37We're going, we're pushing, but we're not healthy.
- 22:40And then by the time we get to the functional medicine doctor, you're spending a lot more money, you're tripling the amount of money you could have been spent at the very beginning by seeing a functional medicine doctor.
- 22:49That's another video about the money of functional medicine doctor, So, the next thing we're going to talk about is the blood test.
- 22:57There are a few factors that you need to consider.
- 22:59In conventional medicine, when your doctor is prescribing the blood test, blood test doesn't give you the true, true, true, true, true picture of what's going on in your body.
- 23:07So when you go to your laboratory, they extract that blood out of your vein.
- 23:11Guess what?
- 23:11We're looking at the extracellular.
- 23:14The blood is composed of liquid, aka serum, aka plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.
- 23:22So when you go to your conventional laboratory, now functional medicine, conventional laboratory, like LabCorp here in the state of New Jersey, we have LabCorp.
- 23:28We're not looking at the cells.
- 23:30I'm sorry.
- 23:30We're looking at the, at what's outside of your cells.
- 23:33So if I'm doing a complete blood count, CBC, a complete metabolic panel, which is CMP, like fentanyl, and I'm doing a lipid for your cholesterol, or I'm doing thyroid, I'm doing TSH, maybe T4, because most doctors don't do thyroid antibodies, and that's all I'm doing.
- 23:50Of course, it's going to come back 90 percent of the time normal.
- 23:53Yeah, and, and I'm going to tell you, you're crazy, you need a Xanax, you need to see a shrink, because there's nothing wrong with you, because the blood test is normal.
- 24:00And you're going to look at me like, What?
- 24:02What are you?
- 24:02No! I'm suffering here.
- 24:04And I'm looking at you like, well, let me refer you to somebody else.
- 24:07Go do all the testing.
- 24:08All the testing.
- 24:09So we need to do both conventional and functional blood tests.
- 24:13Both.
- 24:14Both.
- 24:15In my clinic, we do both because the goal is to identify the root causes.
- 24:20Multiple causes, We need to do both.
- 24:22Yes, I am going to check to see your CBC, your, you know, rhabdocells, rhabdocells.
- 24:27There's a few reasons why we check in CBC.
- 24:29I can do a whole video about that if you guys are interested.
- 24:32I am going to check to see your complete metabolic panel.
- 24:35I'm going to see if you have, you know, cholesterol.
- 24:37I'm going to see what your hemoglobin A1c.
- 24:39I'm also going to check your insulin.
- 24:41I'm also going to check your pancreatic enzymes, amylase, lipase.
- 24:44I'm also going to do any titan pattern for autoimmune.
- 24:47I'm also going to do a gut panel.
- 24:49Check all the silent dormant pathogens that are just creating information and messing up with your immune system.
- 24:56That's why many of us have always sick all the time.
- 24:58We have the cold all the time, the flu all the time.
- 25:00We don't feel well, I'm going to check all these things.
- 25:03So, I'm checking complex markers as well as basic markers, But if I don't check all the other things, I'm missing 90 percent of the pie of what's going with you.
- 25:13CBC doesn't tell me why your cells are inflamed, doesn't tell me, Uh, high cholesterol doesn't tell me the picture of your heart.
- 25:20I'm checking the C reactive protein, your cardiac marker.
- 25:23I'm also checking the D dimer.
- 25:24I don't, there's not enough for me to really go with to help you.
- 25:27And we wonder why we get the pill, We wonder why doctors are looking at you like you should be normal.
- 25:32So the blood test, you should do toxicity bundle.
- 25:35If you are 35 and older, you should do a hormonal panel and you should also do all the basic and the complex markers in the conventional.
- 25:43Now, the next night I want to talk to you, the next clause about About, conventional medicine that we really need to think about is insurance reimbursement.
- 25:51Yes, let's talk about insurance.
- 25:52Now, insurance companies are becoming very smart, Healthcare is a billion dollar industry.
- 25:58Insurance companies are denying left and right.
- 26:01Medication that used to fully covered are not covered anymore.
- 26:03Because insurance companies are realizing doctors are just doing an unnecessary test.
- 26:08Yes, I said it.
- 26:09Unnecessary tests.
- 26:10I have a patient that I'm seeing.
- 26:11I'm working on her case now.
- 26:13She has gut issues, colitis.
- 26:15She's done five colonoscopy and two endoscopy.
- 26:19Now that's excessive, So the insurance is looking at like, why are we doing all this?
- 26:22Why are we doing all these tests?
- 26:24These tests are costly.
- 26:25So of course the insurance is gonna You know, like we embarrassed less and then all the insurance things are going up.
- 26:31The fees are going up.
- 26:32I know because we do submit our patient's behalf and I know I see it here.
- 26:36So the insurance is like, if the patient came to you with one complaint, you do one colonoscopy, their colonoscopy showed small inflammation.
- 26:44Why are we doing 300 colonoscopies?
- 26:46Like why do we need five, Have this person drink this terrible, terrible, crap.
- 26:51So you do an endoscopy, The endoscopy is showing, you know, gastritis or erythema, like redness.
- 26:57Maybe they do a biopsy, the H.
- 26:59pylori.
- 27:00But why are we doing another one?
- 27:01What is the solution?
- 27:02What is the solution?
- 27:03So the more testing we do, the less the insurance is going to cover?
- 27:07Again, doctors do that because they don't know what's going on with you.
- 27:10They don't have time to really take a detailed information, Like to really ask the proper questions.
- 27:15So if you come to me and you have colitis, I have a whole bunch of questions to ask you, Because at the end of the day, you have lived with yourself, in yourself, in your body for however many years you are, you live in.
- 27:26Like, for, I'm 42, I've lived in my body for 42 years.
- 27:30I know my body more than anybody else, So if I don't ask you the appropriate question, I'm only seeing you for a brief period of time, maybe once, I've never met you before.
- 27:39I don't live with you.
- 27:40So I don't know what is happening.
- 27:42So the insurance is like, deny, deny, deny, deny, deny, deny, goodbye.
- 27:46We're not paying for this.
- 27:47This is too expensive.
- 27:48This is, these machines are really costly.
- 27:50No, no, no, no, no.
- 27:51So you have, the doctor has to be very, very, mindful, attentional when they prescribe those imaging, even the blood tests.
- 27:58I have a cancer patient that I'm working now.
- 28:00All they're doing is CBC.
- 28:02And I'm like, what are the tumor marker cells?
- 28:04Where are the tumor markers?
- 28:05Where are the CEA?
- 28:06CA 19.
- 28:079, CA 125, where are those inflammatory markers?
- 28:11Segregate, homocysteine, like where are those things?
- 28:14None.
- 28:15All they're doing on this poor person is CBC.
- 28:18Every month, the person is doing CBC.
- 28:20Come on, it adds up.
- 28:22So the insurance is not paying.
- 28:23Now they deny this person's, uh, the insurance literally is not paying at all.
- 28:27And here he is trying to find any of it.
- 28:29So the insurance, another flow with conventional medicine, which I started talking about is not conventional medicine is not solution driven.
- 28:37Yep.
- 28:37I said it.
- 28:38There's no way it's not result driven.
- 28:40It's not solution driven.
- 28:41You will not heal your body with conventional medicine.
- 28:44It is a disease management process.
- 28:47We are managing your disease with the pills, with the surgery.
- 28:51With all the quick fixes we are making, we are managing diseases.
- 28:54There's no solution.
- 28:55So if you are in the solution, you know, investigation, like you want solution, you want to actually fix a problem.
- 29:01Again, you can do all of the things in conventional medicine, but you must, must incorporate functional medicine because a true, true, true functional medicine process is geared at first identifying the root causes.
- 29:14Even if you invest in just to know what the root causes are, And then you can take that information to do what, you know, pleases you, but at least, you know, the root causes.
- 29:22Yeah, you know, you know, okay.
- 29:24Well, I have Kaksaki virus.
- 29:26I have Epstein Barr virus.
- 29:27Oh my god.
- 29:28I have H.
- 29:28pylori.
- 29:29Oh, I have papovirus.
- 29:30Oh my god.
- 29:30My COA active protein is elevated.
- 29:32I might have a cardiac event at any moment, My insulin is tripled.
- 29:36I am in full blown diabetes, so you have to really look at solution.
- 29:40So when my patients come to me and I'm like, okay, so you do all this testing.
- 29:44What's the solution?
- 29:44They look at me like, huh?
- 29:45I'm like, what's the solution?
- 29:47Why are we doing all this testing with no solution?
- 29:49You should actually be focusing on solution and results, Like, what is the solution?
- 29:53What is the result?
- 29:54I understand you went to the expert, they did wonderful work, but what's the solution?
- 29:58A pill?
- 29:59That's not a solution.
- 30:00So whatever you do in conventional and functional medicine, always ask the doctor, how would you fix this issue?
- 30:07What is my solution?
- 30:08What is my results?
- 30:09If we do all this testing and the results came out, came out abnormal, how, what is that?
- 30:15Do you have a plan?
- 30:16And do you have someone that you have helped?
- 30:18with this particular issue.
- 30:19I mean, I can go on and on and on and on and on and on about conventional medicine, but I'm just going to leave it as that, So that's something for you to marinate on.
- 30:28Again, I think there's a place for both.
- 30:30I use conventional medicine.
- 30:31I do whatever's necessary for my patient.
- 30:34If I have to refer them out, I will refer them out.
- 30:35But again, I'm looking at this individual that came to me with one goal.
- 30:40To feel better, to optimize the health, to eliminate the symptoms, So I'm going to do whatever is necessary to help that person.
- 30:47So if he involves women, if he meant for me to prescribe a medication for two, three days, I will do that.
- 30:52But the goal is not to be on that medication until they die,?
- 30:55It's not to have them see all the people in the world.
- 30:58it's to really take time, investigate, identify the root causes, create a customized individualized protocol for that person, go over, the protocol with them, show them a picture, a road map, explain to them how we do this, And actually, sometimes I will just pull up other people's blood work of before and after and show to my patient, of course, hey, Pat, they have to give me the consent, I'm just show people's blood work.
- 31:20Information like that, but I'm going to shoot them like here.
- 31:23This is the person that has the same level of whatever.
- 31:25And this is what we did.
- 31:26This is how, so they can see, cause you want to know your health is the only thing you have on this planet.
- 31:33We all want to make a zillion dollar of money.
- 31:35We want to do go on vacation.
- 31:36I'm going to be present for all the people now in our lives, but you can't do that if you're sick.
- 31:40You can do that if you're sick.
- 31:41So I'm going to answer a few thing on.
- 31:44Because I'm also streaming on Instagram.
- 31:46Sammy, Sammy says conventional medicine doesn't address the optimal health.
- 31:50Yes, Sammy, conventional medicine doesn't address root causes, doesn't address solution, doesn't address result, doesn't address anything really.
- 31:58I think it's just an entry to medicine, if you were to ask me, but we should not stay there.
- 32:02We should not stay there because I'm telling you, people will come to me, had no, they had like one little tiny minor issues that maybe, you know, recommended like some healing and then after being prescribed all these medications, they end up having like a zillion other issues.
- 32:16Yeah, it's dealing with other issues.
- 32:17It's like, I didn't have kidney issues, now I have kidney issues.
- 32:19How did you get kidney issues?
- 32:20I don't know.
- 32:21So, you really have to pay attention to that.
- 32:24S M R U T I P 87 says conventional medicine doesn't, okay, I did say that.
- 32:29Cost definitely affects access to functional medicine.
- 32:33Yeah, I think it's, it's, it's people's perspective if you were to ask me.
- 32:36I think functional medicine is the cheapest medicine because again, you are addressing the root causes.
- 32:41you're addressing the underlying condition, you're actually getting results, is, is that, that's priceless.
- 32:47But first you have to work with a doctor that can help you.
- 32:50Don't just go to any doctor and send your money, You have to really fill them out, go on the website, watch the videos, like doctors that can help you.
- 32:57Go into Google, like, you know, reviews are a thing, So but again, the first initial work you do with your doctor is to identify the root causes.
- 33:06Identify the root causes.
- 33:08You have to pay$400.
- 33:09Fine.
- 33:09Identify the root causes a hundred dollars.
- 33:11Identify the root causes.
- 33:12That's the first initial, and then you'll take it from there after that.
- 33:15This is the end of the video.
- 33:16Thank you so much.
- 33:17I have patience waiting for me.
- 33:19I gotta go.
- 33:19Thank you so much for watching this.
- 33:21Again, we're gonna have this in our YouTube channel.
- 33:24We are also gonna have this on the podcast, the Prepare Patient podcast.
- 33:27put your comments below, Like, how do you feel?
- 33:29Am I.
- 33:30Do you agree?
- 33:31I mean, if conventional medicine is working for you, go for it.
- 33:35If you are always curious about functional medicine, you should investigate.
- 33:38That's a big yes, yes in my world.
- 33:40I think you should have both.
- 33:41But limitations on the conventional medicine, more on the, I mean, like it should be in the functional medicine.
- 33:49You have to find a doctor that is a true, true, true, functional medicine because not doctors are, you know, labeling themselves as functional medicine, but they're not really going through the process of functional medicine.
- 33:59And then the first step to healing your body is to identify the root causes.
- 34:03That's number one.
- 34:04And the second, detox.
- 34:05And then whatever else is coming up on the blood test, that doctor that tested you should create a customized individualized protocol to help you with that.
- 34:11So thank you so much.
- 34:12I will be doing another Facebook live maybe next week.
