Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Training Camp Cast. The Patriots Training
• 0:09
Speaker 1: Camp Cast is your source for all the news from
• 0:11
  Speaker 1: Patriots Training Camp.
• 0:12
Speaker 2: Well, I do still watch the news.
• 0:14
Speaker 1: Practice is over, but the writers of Patriots dot.
• 0:17
Speaker 2: Com have you covered what did I miss yesterday?
• 0:19
Speaker 1: Now Here to review today's practice the writers of Patriots
• 0:22
  Speaker 1: dot com.
• 0:24
Speaker 2: And today once again, that'll be Mike Dusau and Paul
• 0:26
Speaker 2: Parillo here high above the practice fields at Jollete Stadium,
• 0:30
Speaker 2: Day two in the books. Michael, we're flying a little
• 0:33
Speaker 2: bit more of red zone work as we talked about yesterday.
• 0:36
Speaker 2: A little different red zone work today, a little bit
• 0:39
Speaker 2: closer to the twenty the high red zone. I guess
• 0:41
Speaker 2: he's what the they like to call it, as opposed
• 0:44
Speaker 2: to the low red zone stuff that we saw yesterday.
• 0:47
Speaker 2: Once again, just a couple of bookkeeping items. Attendance really strong,
• 0:52
Speaker 2: both on and off the field. I think, another good,
• 0:54
Speaker 2: solid crowd here today and the Patriots I believe very health.
• 1:00
Speaker 2: The again, just Cody Davis and Michael Owenu on PUP
• 1:04
Speaker 2: and Calvin Anderson is on NFI. But otherwise we saw
• 1:10
Speaker 2: everybody in uniform. Matthew Judon continues to be more of
• 1:14
Speaker 2: a spectator. Yeah, so we'll see if we can keep
• 1:16
Speaker 2: an eye on that. I think he is scheduled to
• 1:19
Speaker 2: speak a little bit later. We'll see if that ends
• 1:21
Speaker 2: up holding. But Mike, your thoughts on D two, Yeah.
• 1:24
Speaker 3: Well, I thought a little bit up and down for
• 1:26
Speaker 3: the offense. I mean there were moments that thought, hey,
• 1:29
Speaker 3: they're they're clicking. They made a couple of nice plays
• 1:31
Speaker 3: Devonte Parker, Juju Smith, Schuster, some nice touchdown grabs from
• 1:35
Speaker 3: Mac Jones, but Kyle Duggart coming down kind of a
• 1:37
Speaker 3: bad interception by Mac looked like you for still immediately
• 1:41
Speaker 3: dropped down started doing push ups. So, you know, I think,
• 1:44
Speaker 3: as we talked about on our live show, it's probably
• 1:46
Speaker 3: gonna be some overreactions to some of the up and
• 1:48
Speaker 3: down nature inconsistencies here early on in the offense. But
• 1:51
Speaker 3: I'm gonna just say, I'll take it compared to what
• 1:53
Speaker 3: we saw last year when it was just contest to catch,
• 1:55
Speaker 3: contest to catch same thing over and over again, it
• 1:59
Speaker 3: feels like they're working a lot of stuff in. So
• 2:01
Speaker 3: I'm okay right now with the offense. I'm not going
• 2:03
Speaker 3: to get, you know, too concerned with what's going on.
• 2:05
Speaker 3: But you know, certainly the interception Mac through can't happen,
• 2:08
Speaker 3: but I think that's probably gonna overshadow a couple of
• 2:10
Speaker 3: the nicer throws that he did have.
• 2:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, I have a lot more, certainly confidence in what
• 2:14
Speaker 2: they're doing offensively because Bill O'Brien is here. I'm not
• 2:17
Speaker 2: gonna lie and tell you the performance has been any
• 2:19
Speaker 2: different or any better, because I don't really think it
• 2:21
Speaker 2: has been. But I just feel like some of the
• 2:24
Speaker 2: things that they're showing, some of the RPO looks that
• 2:27
Speaker 2: we're talking about during the course of the show, some
• 2:29
Speaker 2: of the screen looks are a little bit different, and
• 2:32
Speaker 2: I think some of the route concepts I think have
• 2:34
Speaker 2: been a little bit different as well. And they've they've
• 2:36
Speaker 2: gotten some guys open, not as you said, not just
• 2:39
  Speaker 2: relying on individuals.
• 2:41
Speaker 3: Shot plays and catches that's fantastic catches.
• 2:44
  Speaker 2: So I don't think it's been great, but I think
• 2:47
Speaker 2: it's a work in progress, and I have more confidence
• 2:49
Speaker 2: that it will get better as the time goes on.
• 2:51
Speaker 2: One thing I wanted to bring up today, Mike, some
• 2:54
Speaker 2: of the team periods that we saw today involved Bailey
• 2:57
Speaker 2: Zappi staying out there with the same guys that Jones
• 3:00
Speaker 2: was with I don't think we saw a ton of
• 3:01
Speaker 2: that yesterday, if any at all. So he got a
• 3:04
Speaker 2: chance to work behind the regular offensive line with the
• 3:07
Speaker 2: regular group of receivers. I thought he looked better today
• 3:11
Speaker 2: at times than he did yesterday.
• 3:13
Speaker 3: Again, I thought up and down.
• 3:15
  Speaker 2: Offensively, I think there's still some I don't want to
• 3:17
Speaker 2: overstate it. I think offensively, there's some issues to work
• 3:20
Speaker 2: through and there's still a work in progress. But interesting
• 3:23
Speaker 2: that Zappi was getting quote unquote one reps.
• 3:26
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well, and look, you don't want to overreact,
• 3:28
Speaker 3: but you know, look we'll continue to watch. We're gonna
• 3:30
Speaker 3: be back here tomorrow, the day, you know, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.
• 3:33
Speaker 3: I mean it's gonna go on. So you just don't
• 3:35
Speaker 3: want to get too crazy at this point. One guy,
• 3:37
Speaker 3: I just wanted, you know, to highlight look like Marcus
• 3:39
Speaker 3: Jones getting a little bit of a chance to run
• 3:42
Speaker 3: with the Ones as an outside corner. So that's a
• 3:44
Speaker 3: little bit of an interesting, you know development in terms
• 3:46
Speaker 3: of personnel. You kind of track these things to see,
• 3:49
Speaker 3: you know, when guys are gonna get their chance, and
• 3:52
Speaker 3: seem like he got a couple you know, extra reps
• 3:54
Speaker 3: there on the outside. Certainly gave up a couple of catches,
• 3:57
Speaker 3: so you know it's gonna be a process for him
• 3:59
  Speaker 3: for sure.
• 3:59
Speaker 2: Great point about Marcus Jones, and I'm glad because we
• 4:02
Speaker 2: talked about him a lot during the show yesterday. On
• 4:04
Speaker 2: Day one, I thought that was the most looks he
• 4:07
Speaker 2: got with again the front line guys around him on defense.
• 4:11
Speaker 2: And he made some play too. Yeah, you're right, he
• 4:13
Speaker 2: gave up some plays today, but he made some as well.
• 4:16
Speaker 2: So interesting to see him sort of establish himself. Maybe,
• 4:20
Speaker 2: you know, maybe they'll they're kind of looking ahead with
• 4:22
Speaker 2: this Jack Jones situation. I think that has to be
• 4:24
Speaker 2: weighing on Bill Belichick's mind moving forward. There has to
• 4:27
Speaker 2: be some level of uncertainty as to his availability down
• 4:31
Speaker 2: the stretch. Yeah, this this schedule, to get right back
• 4:34
Speaker 2: at it tomorrow. Anything else kind of stand out to
• 4:37
Speaker 2: you today? Before you know, we should mention Chad Ryland
• 4:40
Speaker 2: handled the field goals at the end. It was yesterday,
• 4:42
Speaker 2: looked like he was perfect on five or six attempts
• 4:45
Speaker 2: at the end, you know, stretching out to about forty
• 4:48
Speaker 2: some odd yards forty three yards or so toward the end.
• 4:52
Speaker 2: Anything else, stand out to him.
• 4:53
Speaker 3: I would just highlight, you know, DeVante Parker, Juju Smith Shuster.
• 4:56
Speaker 3: I mean especially smith Shuster, who you know we didn't
• 4:58
Speaker 3: see it all in the spring, but you know, had
• 5:00
Speaker 3: a real nice route touchdown today. He's starting to show
• 5:03
  Speaker 3: up a little bit. I mean, I just I think
• 5:04
Speaker 3: the team needs him so much, and you know, we
• 5:06
Speaker 3: know what we have in Devonte Parker with his you know,
• 5:09
Speaker 3: size and ability to come down with the ball contested
• 5:11
Speaker 3: catch situation. So some of those elements starting to pop
• 5:14
Speaker 3: up a little bit for the Patriots. And lastly, just
• 5:16
Speaker 3: to Mario Douglas, you know who's going to be that
• 5:19
Speaker 3: you know, is there a fifth receiver that can emerge
• 5:20
Speaker 3: from the group below those kind of top four guys.
• 5:23
Speaker 3: And you know, not that he got a ton of run,
• 5:25
Speaker 3: but he got some looks with the with the ones,
• 5:27
Speaker 3: and you know was over there watching with that group.
• 5:29
Speaker 3: It's a select kind of group that they work with
• 5:31
Speaker 3: at times and you know, various drills and so it
• 5:34
Speaker 3: seems early on he's getting a chance to to maybe
• 5:36
Speaker 3: you know, show what he can do his quickness jumps
• 5:38
Speaker 3: off the field. But you know he's gonna make some plays,
• 5:40
Speaker 3: make some catches and maybe really start to turn some heads.
• 5:43
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think it's a really good point about Juju.
• 5:45
Speaker 2: I thought there was one play that really, I like
• 5:47
Speaker 2: to use the phrase, looked like a Patriots play. He
• 5:50
Speaker 2: made a quick move to the inside, shook Christian Gonzalez.
• 5:53
Speaker 2: I believe it was either Gonzalez or Marcus Jones when
• 5:56
Speaker 2: I think it was Gonzales and had a nice touchdown catch.
• 6:00
Speaker 2: They're gonna need that. They're gonna need to replace that
• 6:02
Speaker 2: production from Myers, And I thought he was a little
• 6:06
Speaker 2: quiet yesterday, showed up a couple of times today. So
• 6:09
Speaker 2: looking at as Bill Belichick likes to say, Mike, you're
• 6:11
Speaker 2: looking at stack days at this stage of the summer.
• 6:14
Speaker 2: I thought they built a little bit off of what
• 6:16
Speaker 2: they did yesterday, as we talked about with the red zone.
• 6:19
Speaker 2: I think we'll see more of that. Looks like I
• 6:21
Speaker 2: think they'll be in shells tomorrow. We'll be back at
• 6:24
Speaker 2: it the same time and we'll give you everything you
• 6:27
Speaker 2: need to know, Mike, orso Paul Perl will het you
• 6:29
Speaker 2: tomorrow for at the next training camp cast
