- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Hey guys, and welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush.
- 0:16Speaker 1: My name is Jia Judice, and today I'm speaking with
- 0:18Speaker 1: two masters students here to spill what they wish they
- 0:21Speaker 1: knew before their freshman year rushing. So today I am
- 0:26Speaker 1: joined by e Liza. She is a master's student right now,
- 0:30Speaker 1: but in her undergrad she was in a sorority.
- 0:32Speaker 2: So today I am.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Going to talk to her about what her experience was
- 0:36Speaker 1: like and what she wished she knew before rushing. Hey guys,
- 0:39Speaker 1: and welcome to Dirty Rush.
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm Jia.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Hi, how are you good?
- 0:44Speaker 2: How are you good?
- 0:45Speaker 3: I'm Laura and I'm Liza.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Oh so nice to meet you guys.
- 0:49Speaker 1: So you guys are master's students right now about to graduate.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Correct, We are going to Texas Christian University right now,
- 0:55Speaker 3: and we also got our undergrad here as well.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Oh amazing.
- 0:59Speaker 1: How has it been and doing your master's program afterwards?
- 1:03Speaker 4: It's been really nice to kind of continue to grow
- 1:06Speaker 4: in one space and continue to foster connections within our community.
- 1:11Speaker 4: I think that's been like super special to be able
- 1:13Speaker 4: to stay put and just yeah, yeah, And.
- 1:16Speaker 3: I feel like TSU for both of us means like
- 1:18Speaker 3: a lot to both of our families. We both have
- 1:21Speaker 3: family who went to TSU, so it's it's the best
- 1:25Speaker 3: place ever. So it's been great.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Oh that's amazing. So what are you guys doing afterwards?
- 1:30Speaker 1: What are you guys doing with your masters?
- 1:32Speaker 3: So I we both graduate on Saturday, and I'll graduate
- 1:35Speaker 3: with my master's in education.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Amazing.
- 1:38Speaker 3: And I just accepted a job and I'll be teaching
- 1:40Speaker 3: first grade in the fall.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Congratulations yea.
- 1:44Speaker 4: And I am getting my degree in speech language pathology.
- 1:49Speaker 2: So my cousin's doing that. That's amazing.
- 1:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I love it.
- 1:54Speaker 4: It's been in absolute joy and such a gift to
- 1:57Speaker 4: be able to pursue this field. But I'll be working
- 2:00Speaker 4: in a pediatric private clinic.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Oh, that's amazing.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So you'll have like real one on one time that's incredible.
- 2:06Speaker 1: And you're gonna deal with students, which is amazing. And
- 2:09Speaker 1: a lot of my friends are teachers and they absolutely
- 2:12Speaker 1: love it and they're teaching like younger students as well,
- 2:14Speaker 1: so they enjoy.
- 2:15Speaker 2: It a lot.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Good. Good, Yeah, So what was your sorority involvement through
- 2:20Speaker 1: your master's program. Were you guys involved at all or
- 2:23Speaker 1: was it mainly just in your undergrad I.
- 2:26Speaker 3: Would say mainly in undergrad. For me, I have stayed
- 2:31Speaker 3: sort of connected with like my sorority family. I'm very
- 2:34Speaker 3: close with my little and she's still nearby, but I
- 2:39Speaker 3: would say my my like more involvement in undergrad for sure,
- 2:45Speaker 3: I would say the same.
- 2:46Speaker 4: I am really close with my family and are my
- 2:50Speaker 4: my theta family.
- 2:51Speaker 3: I was a Theta and I am.
- 2:56Speaker 4: Since I'm still in the area, I've tried to maintain
- 2:59Speaker 4: those reallys and so I have somehow managed to go
- 3:03Speaker 4: to every single midday since I was at TCU.
- 3:06Speaker 2: All of that's so cute, all of.
- 3:08Speaker 4: The big littles, and we have like tradition where we
- 3:12Speaker 4: go to Joe Te's.
- 3:13Speaker 3: We all got tattoos together last year.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Like, we are very close and they are some of
- 3:19Speaker 4: my biggest blessings from college. So it's been fun to
- 3:23Speaker 4: kind of be the like older sister and the one
- 3:26Speaker 4: that everybody comes to to advice for.
- 3:29Speaker 1: And no, definitely, I mean that's crazy. Your family must
- 3:32Speaker 1: be huge then if you're still there and just to
- 3:35Speaker 1: watch it all grow that's crazy.
- 3:37Speaker 3: Yeah, we have a very big family. I rushed twins.
- 3:41Speaker 3: I have triplets.
- 3:42Speaker 4: Actually, I have three littles and then they all it's
- 3:47Speaker 4: like a whole ordeal.
- 3:50Speaker 3: But our family is huge.
- 3:51Speaker 4: But now I rushed as a sophomore, and so all
- 3:56Speaker 4: of my littles rushed as sophomores, and their littles rush
- 4:00Speaker 4: just sophomore.
- 4:00Speaker 3: So it's like.
- 4:01Speaker 4: We're all kind of graduating at the same time. So
- 4:04Speaker 4: our family keeps dwindling down. But you know, we're still alive.
- 4:09Speaker 4: We're not We're not dead yet.
- 4:11Speaker 2: So you said you were a Theta. What sorority were
- 4:14Speaker 2: you in?
- 4:15Speaker 3: I was a gamified Beta.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Okay, amazing. So we're gonna think back to the start.
- 4:22Speaker 1: What was your perception of Rush before going into it?
- 4:26Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh, I Rush was like the scariest thing
- 4:29Speaker 3: in the world.
- 4:30Speaker 4: Like, especially being in Texas, there's a lot or just
- 4:33Speaker 4: like in the South per se, there's a lot of
- 4:36Speaker 4: pressure to join a sorority and be in a top
- 4:40Speaker 4: house or you know, whatever you want to call it.
- 4:42Speaker 4: So going into RUSH was probably like the most nervous
- 4:45Speaker 4: I've been in my entire life.
- 4:47Speaker 3: And I've had a lot of anxiety for different reasons.
- 4:51Speaker 4: So it's just like an unantiquated amount of pressure on
- 4:56Speaker 4: like girls coming in to rush.
- 4:59Speaker 3: I would agree. I rushed my freshman year, which was
- 5:03Speaker 3: the fall of twenty twenty, so it was completely virtual.
- 5:07Speaker 3: So that definitely was weird and played a part into
- 5:09Speaker 3: like my nerves and excitement towards it. But I was
- 5:13Speaker 3: definitely still nervous to a degree. You know. I just
- 5:15Speaker 3: wanted to meet people fast and like create connections fast
- 5:22Speaker 3: being so far from home. I'm originally from Long Island, Okay,
- 5:26Speaker 3: So I just wanted to like find a good group
- 5:30Speaker 3: that I had, you know at home.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Oh definitely, did you guys always want to rush going
- 5:37Speaker 1: into college?
- 5:38Speaker 2: If not, what made you decide to rush?
- 5:41Speaker 4: I knew I wanted to rush going into college. Again,
- 5:45Speaker 4: that's just something like growing up in Texas. That's kind
- 5:48Speaker 4: of just like a part of the entire college process
- 5:51Speaker 4: where a lot of people is going through recruitment. So
- 5:54Speaker 4: I knew that was something I wanted to do, but
- 5:56Speaker 4: I did. I had a gap year in between graduating
- 6:00Speaker 4: from high school for medical reasons and then transferred. Long
- 6:06Speaker 4: story short, I rushed as a sophomore, but was two
- 6:09Speaker 4: years older than the girls in my pledge class, so
- 6:11Speaker 4: it was just a very different experience.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I would say, yeah, did you feel like you were
- 6:17Speaker 1: more mature than them or maybe a little behind? Like
- 6:20Speaker 1: a little behind, or like how did that make you feel.
- 6:24Speaker 4: I and I would say like both, Like I felt
- 6:27Speaker 4: again kind of like the older sister to the girls
- 6:29Speaker 4: in my pledged class. But then like then I had
- 6:35Speaker 4: the girls two PCs above me who are like some
- 6:38Speaker 4: of my closer friends that I was able to meet
- 6:41Speaker 4: prior to going through rush, And when they graduated, it
- 6:44Speaker 4: was really hard because I was like, well, these are
- 6:47Speaker 4: the girls that I have associated fato with in my
- 6:50Speaker 4: time at TCU with and they're my best friends, and
- 6:53Speaker 4: now what do I do? And you know, Laura and
- 6:55Speaker 4: I are lucky enough, like we can both testified the
- 7:00Speaker 4: fact that like, sorority life isn't everything. And like during
- 7:05Speaker 4: college we were in a house where every single one
- 7:07Speaker 4: of the roommates was in a different sorority and.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I feel like that's so common, yeah.
- 7:11Speaker 3: So common. But I feel like what you might see
- 7:14Speaker 3: online is not that, Like you might get be fed
- 7:18Speaker 3: with my oh, my best friends are my sorority sisters.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I want to live in the house. I want to
- 7:23Speaker 3: like be super involved. And while that might be some
- 7:25Speaker 3: people's experience, like like you just said, I feel like
- 7:29Speaker 3: more common to have, Like my people were not in
- 7:34Speaker 3: my sorority, and that's okay, Like my people were people
- 7:37Speaker 3: I'm at, you know, through other ways, and so I
- 7:41Speaker 3: just think, while it might seem like it's in all bey'all,
- 7:45Speaker 3: it's kind of something like important to know that, like
- 7:50Speaker 3: us on the end of it, now, on the other
- 7:52Speaker 3: side of it, you actually could meet so many people
- 7:56Speaker 3: so many other ways. But because everybody's going everybody's going
- 7:59Speaker 3: through it, you feel like you kind of have to
- 8:01Speaker 3: like do that and find.
- 8:03Speaker 2: And participate in that for sure.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Yeah, So what advice do you wish someone told you
- 8:09Speaker 1: before Rush?
- 8:10Speaker 3: It's not everything I would say, like not that serious either. Yeah,
- 8:16Speaker 3: I feel like people or people I spoke to try
- 8:20Speaker 3: like kind of made me even more scared of like,
- 8:24Speaker 3: oh my gosh, this is so intimidating, Like you know,
- 8:27Speaker 3: these girls are only a few years older than you,
- 8:30Speaker 3: Like there's not that big of an age difference, and
- 8:35Speaker 3: the cheesy saying of like just be yourself is so
- 8:39Speaker 3: annoying to hear all the time. But seriously, I mean,
- 8:41Speaker 3: why would you want to be anyone but yourself, Like
- 8:44Speaker 3: you want to be you know, authentic and find people
- 8:47Speaker 3: who are going to match that. So it's not that serious,
- 8:50Speaker 3: it's not that deep. Just take a chill pill and
- 8:53Speaker 3: like it will all be okay.
- 8:55Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I completely agree.
- 8:57Speaker 1: I feel like even when I was a freshman rushing,
- 9:00Speaker 1: I would look at the seniors like they were doing
- 9:03Speaker 1: it all right and that they were.
- 9:06Speaker 2: Such a you know, someone to look up to.
- 9:08Speaker 1: And even just looking at the president of my sorority,
- 9:11Speaker 1: who when I was rushing, you know, I wanted to be.
- 9:14Speaker 1: I really fell in love with Zada, and then I
- 9:16Speaker 1: ended up, you know, getting into Zeta, which was great.
- 9:19Speaker 1: But I remember looking at her and I thought she
- 9:22Speaker 1: was so pretty and it just looked like she had
- 9:24Speaker 1: it all together. And just during the rush process, everything
- 9:28Speaker 1: was so perfect. But then you realize, like you said,
- 9:31Speaker 1: they really are not that much older than you and
- 9:33Speaker 1: it's not that serious. And then once joining the sorority. Yes,
- 9:38Speaker 1: I want to say, freshman year was probably the most
- 9:41Speaker 1: fun I had, and it doesn't you know, your sophomore year,
- 9:45Speaker 1: getting into your sorority after midday the whole I want
- 9:48Speaker 1: to say, that was the most fun I had. And
- 9:52Speaker 1: then it all just is like any other thing, you know.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I mean, yes, you get close with your friends, but
- 10:00Speaker 1: then you meet girls in so many other different sororities.
- 10:03Speaker 1: You're having socials, you're meeting other guys in fraternities, you're
- 10:06Speaker 1: meeting the entire Greek life, where then you make friends
- 10:11Speaker 1: with everybody else as well, and you realize, Okay, yeah,
- 10:15Speaker 1: maybe I didn't have to be in a sorority, but
- 10:17Speaker 1: this definitely helped open doors to meeting people totally.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Like I wouldn't have met some of the people that
- 10:25Speaker 3: I know and now love if I didn't rush. So
- 10:28Speaker 3: it does you know, it is beneficial and it is
- 10:31Speaker 3: helpful being like, you know, your first few weeks in
- 10:33Speaker 3: a new place.
- 10:34Speaker 4: But you were saying, yeah, I think there's also something
- 10:37Speaker 4: to be said about like I think any college that
- 10:40Speaker 4: you go to, there's this like predetermined set of like
- 10:46Speaker 4: houses and regards of rank, and I think that's like
- 10:49Speaker 4: a complete fallacy because like you're going to end up
- 10:53Speaker 4: in the house that like is suited for you, and
- 10:57Speaker 4: that should be like that's your number one, right, and
- 11:02Speaker 4: so like I think that was like super important to
- 11:06Speaker 4: me going in recognizing that of just like your goal
- 11:10Speaker 4: shouldn't be to get in the top house. Your goal
- 11:12Speaker 4: should be to get in the house that like suits
- 11:14Speaker 4: you best, where people like like love you for who
- 11:19Speaker 4: you are and just like want the best for you.
- 11:24Speaker 3: So I feel like that is.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Super important to kind of like take into your Rush experience,
- 11:30Speaker 4: like walk out in noise. Yeah, like you're gonna end
- 11:32Speaker 4: up where you're supposed to end up at the end
- 11:34Speaker 4: of like at the end of the.
- 11:35Speaker 3: Day, Like going through Rush, like I was not talking
- 11:39Speaker 3: with other girls really about like what houses they were
- 11:43Speaker 3: getting because I was just like, that's just gonna like it's.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Going to alter the experience a little bit one hundred percent.
- 11:49Speaker 1: And they always used to say that during rush too,
- 11:52Speaker 1: don't talk about the houses outside of Rush.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Make this your make this your experience. You know, be
- 11:57Speaker 2: in your own thoughts because it is. It is true,
- 12:00Speaker 2: and I know it's hard.
- 12:01Speaker 1: It's like when you also have your group of friends
- 12:03Speaker 1: when you're going into college, especially meeting.
- 12:05Speaker 2: In the dorms or meeting anywhere else.
- 12:08Speaker 1: It's very you know, it's hard because you have this
- 12:11Speaker 1: A lot of the times you go into college freshman year,
- 12:14Speaker 1: you're running around the dorms, knocking on the doors and
- 12:18Speaker 1: just meeting people. You get this huge group of friends
- 12:21Speaker 1: that by the time you're a senior becomes to.
- 12:24Speaker 2: Be this small. But you know, you have this huge.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Group of friends when you first get into college thinking
- 12:31Speaker 1: that this is the best thing in the world, and
- 12:33Speaker 1: you all obviously want to rush the same sorority.
- 12:36Speaker 2: And then you rush, and you all end up in
- 12:39Speaker 2: different places, and.
- 12:41Speaker 1: The people who you really are supposed to stay close
- 12:44Speaker 1: with you will and then it just trickles out from there.
- 12:48Speaker 3: Right, like everything works itself out.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Yeah, you know definitely what shocked you guys the most
- 12:55Speaker 1: about the rush process.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Oh gosh, I feel like being on the opposite end
- 13:03Speaker 4: of rush after going through recruitment, it was shocking to
- 13:07Speaker 4: recognize that, like girls who are already in a sorority
- 13:11Speaker 4: and who are recruiting here ten times more nervous than
- 13:15Speaker 4: you could than a P and M or potential new
- 13:17Speaker 4: member could ever imagine. Like the pressure is just as
- 13:22Speaker 4: high as on the other end.
- 13:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I do remember that as well.
- 13:27Speaker 4: Also, like girls remember you, Like I wore a pair
- 13:30Speaker 4: of green Zara jeans and I was known as the
- 13:33Speaker 4: green pant girl for the remainder across campus, which was
- 13:36Speaker 4: like kind of wild. But I'd literally be greeted at
- 13:40Speaker 4: the door and they'd be like, oh my god, Green
- 13:42Speaker 4: pant Girl.
- 13:42Speaker 3: And I was like, Okay, I guess that's like what.
- 13:46Speaker 4: I'm going to be known for here, but like, yeah,
- 13:49Speaker 4: you're not just like a like people will remember you.
- 13:54Speaker 4: So Like I remember being surprised about like how much
- 13:59Speaker 4: like on the opposite done of it, Like how.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Much work goes into it, you know, like work week
- 14:05Speaker 3: and recruitment week, Like those are some long days and
- 14:09Speaker 3: like Wiza just said, like there is a lot of
- 14:13Speaker 3: pressure on the recruiter because they're driving the conversation, you know,
- 14:18Speaker 3: a sophomore going through recruitment like being like, oh my gosh,
- 14:21Speaker 3: I have to remember all these little things about this girl,
- 14:24Speaker 3: and I want to make sure that like she feels
- 14:26Speaker 3: good and that like the conversation is flowing and.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Yeah, can you recall any conversations that were off putting
- 14:47Speaker 1: or maybe call you guys off guard during rush?
- 14:50Speaker 2: Oh I'm trying to think.
- 14:51Speaker 1: I mean Green Pant Girl. I mean I feel like
- 14:53Speaker 1: that would catch me off guard. I would be like,
- 14:55Speaker 1: is this a compliment or I think.
- 14:58Speaker 4: At that point, especially because I was like two years
- 15:01Speaker 4: older than all the girls I was rushing with. I
- 15:03Speaker 4: was like, I am the age of the girls who
- 15:05Speaker 4: are rushing me. So I was just kind of like, okay,
- 15:09Speaker 4: like if green pants is a way that you're going
- 15:12Speaker 4: to remember me, like by all means that, Yeah, sure.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't think of anything putting Like I mean,
- 15:21Speaker 3: I do.
- 15:21Speaker 4: Remember I had a roommate at the time who wasn't
- 15:23Speaker 4: a different sorority, and you know, they had asked me like,
- 15:28Speaker 4: so you live with so and so, and I was
- 15:30Speaker 4: kind of like this is completely like unallowable, and I
- 15:36Speaker 4: would say I left that house just kind of feeling
- 15:38Speaker 4: like do you actually actually value me as a potential
- 15:42Speaker 4: new member or there's a connection. Is it because I
- 15:45Speaker 4: have a connection to someone that you like invited me back.
- 15:48Speaker 3: To your house?
- 15:49Speaker 2: And yeah, definitely Yeah.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Did you guys get the house you wanted?
- 15:55Speaker 1: If not, did you guys come around to realizing that
- 15:58Speaker 1: this was the house for you and this was the
- 16:00Speaker 1: place for you?
- 16:01Speaker 3: I did. Yeah. My older sister went to TC as well,
- 16:05Speaker 3: and she was also a gamify, So going through recruitment,
- 16:10Speaker 3: I kind of tried to remove like her experience and
- 16:15Speaker 3: what she told me tc was all about, which was
- 16:17Speaker 3: all positive and good stuff, and so I kind of
- 16:19Speaker 3: just wanted to like also get that same experience. And
- 16:22Speaker 3: I was like, if I end up getting, you know,
- 16:24Speaker 3: the house that she was in, great and if I don't,
- 16:26Speaker 3: also great, And it just ended up being that way
- 16:29Speaker 3: that I did, and I was really happy with it.
- 16:32Speaker 3: I mean, like my little it was is like one
- 16:34Speaker 3: of my best friends, and we always say that like
- 16:38Speaker 3: we if we never both rushed Gamut five, we would
- 16:41Speaker 3: have not known each other. And so I so.
- 16:47Speaker 4: I didn't end up getting the house that I prefed,
- 16:50Speaker 4: which in retrospect was the biggest blessing imaginable. My aunt
- 16:56Speaker 4: was a TCU theta, and all of my friends I
- 17:00Speaker 4: transferred to TCU prior to rushing were theta's as well,
- 17:03Speaker 4: and so going through recruitment the entire time, I was like,
- 17:07Speaker 4: obviously I want to be a TCU Theta, like you know,
- 17:11Speaker 4: and but then I went through the process and got
- 17:16Speaker 4: to the end and it was just kind of like
- 17:19Speaker 4: I really want to have like make this my own
- 17:21Speaker 4: experience and not be like influenced by the friendships that
- 17:26Speaker 4: I have and other sororities, or by the connection I
- 17:30Speaker 4: have to THETA, being like being that my aunt was
- 17:34Speaker 4: a TCU THETA, I didn't end up getting the house
- 17:37Speaker 4: that I prefed, And then obviously, like I said, that
- 17:41Speaker 4: was like such a huge blessing because like I was
- 17:47Speaker 4: able to continue to fo not that I wouldn't have
- 17:49Speaker 4: been able to continue fostering these friendships, but it was
- 17:53Speaker 4: like we just had one more thing that like connected
- 17:56Speaker 4: us all together. And then again, like my DA family
- 18:00Speaker 4: is super important to me, like my littles will be
- 18:06Speaker 4: like bridesmaids in my.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Wedding, and so it's just like.
- 18:12Speaker 4: I didn't end up getting what I wanted, but in
- 18:14Speaker 4: the end, I couldn't have asked for anything else.
- 18:17Speaker 1: And maybe you were saying like, Okay, maybe I don't
- 18:20Speaker 1: want to go THETA because everyone else was there and
- 18:23Speaker 1: I want to do something different. But then it's funny
- 18:26Speaker 1: that you know, everything's happens for a reason, So you
- 18:28Speaker 1: ended up there because that's where you were supposed to
- 18:30Speaker 1: end up.
- 18:31Speaker 4: Exactly, Yeah, exactly, And now I get to share that
- 18:34Speaker 4: with my aunt and my cousin, which is super fun.
- 18:37Speaker 4: And so there's definitely a beauty in that story.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Ye would you guys say what sorority you're in matters
- 18:45Speaker 1: all throughout college or just freshman year.
- 18:49Speaker 3: I wouldn't even say it all.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I think like TCU is a smaller campus, and
- 18:57Speaker 4: so being in a sorority, like again.
- 19:00Speaker 3: Isn't the end all be all.
- 19:02Speaker 4: I think that should be like the takeaway for anybody
- 19:04Speaker 4: going through rush, regardless of where you're going to school.
- 19:07Speaker 4: But at TCU you have such a unique experience to
- 19:10Speaker 4: get to know so many people that like being in
- 19:15Speaker 4: a sorority or not being in a sorority doesn't really
- 19:17Speaker 4: make that big of a difference. And I also think
- 19:19Speaker 4: it's it's like what you make of it, Like you
- 19:22Speaker 4: have the choice, like you get to make the decision
- 19:26Speaker 4: whether or not you are going to like make friends
- 19:29Speaker 4: outside of your sorority. So I feel like maybe maybe
- 19:34Speaker 4: it feels more important when you're a freshman.
- 19:37Speaker 3: To be right like and like chatter and people telling
- 19:40Speaker 3: you you know, like.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I think it feels like a bigger deal than it is,
- 19:44Speaker 1: and then once you're actually in the sorority, you realize
- 19:48Speaker 1: that it doesn't matter. I mean, sure, maybe, but also
- 19:52Speaker 1: being a female, we could really go anywhere and do
- 19:56Speaker 1: anything when it comes to socials and getting into frat
- 19:59Speaker 1: part X, Y, and Z. Maybe you can't just go
- 20:02Speaker 1: to the mixer from ten to ten thirty when the
- 20:05Speaker 1: sororities are there with the frat, but you're able to
- 20:09Speaker 1: go at eleven.
- 20:10Speaker 2: So there's just little things.
- 20:11Speaker 1: But maybe I think it is a good starter to
- 20:14Speaker 1: meet people. But then once you're in it, you really
- 20:17Speaker 1: have free range to do anything you want.
- 20:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I would agree it's a good starting point.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think TCU does a good job of
- 20:26Speaker 4: encouraging students to like look beyond they're like and beyond
- 20:32Speaker 4: great glass, you're going to be like so willing to
- 20:34Speaker 4: meet as many people as you can as a freshman
- 20:37Speaker 4: in college or you know, whenever you get to call it.
- 20:39Speaker 3: But that if you don't happen to meet like your
- 20:44Speaker 3: best friend in your storty, you're going to meet that
- 20:47Speaker 3: person some way, somehow, Like Yeah, there's so many friends
- 20:51Speaker 3: at TCU that I have from like knowing this person
- 20:53Speaker 3: and they've introduced me to this person, and this person
- 20:55Speaker 3: is you know what I mean. Like, there's so many
- 20:57Speaker 3: ways that you can meet people. So I think, yes,
- 21:00Speaker 3: it is a good starting point.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Did your sorority have any traditions or rituals that shocked you.
- 21:20Speaker 4: We have like at the end of every semester we
- 21:22Speaker 4: have theda splash, which is like a big essentially pool party.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Which is super fun.
- 21:29Speaker 4: I feel like at this point almost every sorority or
- 21:31Speaker 4: fraternity has adapted some form of of that. Yeah, so
- 21:36Speaker 4: maybe that's not a big tradition. We do a senior
- 21:38Speaker 4: tradition during recruitment that is super fun. And I feel
- 21:47Speaker 4: like when you go through rush there's like little traditions
- 21:50Speaker 4: of like songs that you sing or little acts that
- 21:54Speaker 4: you put on or whatever. At least THETA have that, which,
- 21:59Speaker 4: like going through as a P and M was super
- 22:01Speaker 4: engaging and fun and it kind of just like when
- 22:05Speaker 4: everybody else is like being goofy, you can kind of
- 22:07Speaker 4: just like let your guard down. But yeah, I feel
- 22:10Speaker 4: like we didn't have any like the bigger traditions were
- 22:13Speaker 4: done during initiation.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Which you know every solreaty is different with that, right,
- 22:20Speaker 1: what was your initiation process?
- 22:22Speaker 2: Like it was very tame, Okay.
- 22:26Speaker 4: I feel like a lot of the times you hear
- 22:28Speaker 4: about like crazy things that happened, and.
- 22:30Speaker 2: So there was no like sitting on a dryer.
- 22:33Speaker 4: No, no TCU and like Greek life in general at
- 22:39Speaker 4: TC was very anti like hazing.
- 22:41Speaker 3: Everything is very like on the very already end, Like I, yes,
- 22:47Speaker 3: that's not.
- 22:48Speaker 4: For the Yeah, but it was literally I think, like
- 22:52Speaker 4: the worst thing was maybe that I was blindfolded going
- 22:55Speaker 4: up and down the stairs because they didn't want to
- 22:57Speaker 4: show us the different rooms that we were being taken
- 22:59Speaker 4: in too, like and.
- 23:02Speaker 2: But it's all harmless.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Yeah, it was like you were blindfolded because you weren't
- 23:06Speaker 4: allowed to see the upstairs of the house until you
- 23:09Speaker 4: were initiated.
- 23:10Speaker 3: Yeah, so we're.
- 23:11Speaker 4: In the upstairs of the house, we just couldn't see
- 23:13Speaker 4: it because we weren't initiated. Yeah, Like we were never
- 23:17Speaker 4: allowed to cross the boundary to go upstairs, like we
- 23:21Speaker 4: had to stay down.
- 23:22Speaker 3: Like funny, I was on zoom, so we didn't have it.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I was all in person and I was wearing
- 23:29Speaker 4: a mask, which was horrific.
- 23:30Speaker 3: But yeah, I mean, and when we when I was
- 23:33Speaker 3: recruiting my sophomore year, we just stayed in like the
- 23:35Speaker 3: main room. We didn't, like, we don't go other places
- 23:37Speaker 3: in the house.
- 23:38Speaker 4: We stay like downstairs, there's like one room that's coated
- 23:41Speaker 4: in all white curtains, and like it gets really hot
- 23:44Speaker 4: in there, and I think or someone passed out. Actually, yes,
- 23:47Speaker 4: one of my really good friends passed out. She was
- 23:48Speaker 4: right next to me because it just.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Got too hot. I think that's like the craziest thing
- 23:53Speaker 3: that happened. Yeah, Unfortunately, recruitment here is during literally the
- 23:57Speaker 3: worst month of the entire year. It is like, oh
- 24:00Speaker 3: my gosh, it's so hot here a lot.
- 24:03Speaker 1: What did you miss most about sorority life as you
- 24:06Speaker 1: continued your schooling in the same place you were in
- 24:08Speaker 1: a sorority in.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Oh, that's a good question. I would say, like still
- 24:13Speaker 3: being here in Fort Worth and like watching the younger
- 24:16Speaker 3: girls in gammify like get to experience all the things
- 24:20Speaker 3: that I wants experience. Like I just went to I
- 24:23Speaker 3: don't even know what is aeron to me, like my
- 24:25Speaker 3: grand little he's your gee. That Yeah, I went to
- 24:30Speaker 3: her twenty first and like there was some gammafies there,
- 24:33Speaker 3: but there was also like just other friends of hers there,
- 24:36Speaker 3: And I am such a nostalgic person and like Liza
- 24:39Speaker 3: can attest to that, but I'm just like, like I
- 24:42Speaker 3: loved college. I had a great experience, So watching other
- 24:45Speaker 3: people get to experience that like makes me so like happy, yeah.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I mean it is.
- 24:51Speaker 1: You're like you're watching them like do what you were
- 24:54Speaker 1: just doing.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yeah, it sounds like I could get emotional about it,
- 24:57Speaker 3: but like I literally could. I yeah, watching them get
- 25:02Speaker 3: to experience that for the first time and like hearing
- 25:05Speaker 3: their stories and I'm like yeah, yeah, yep, I totally
- 25:08Speaker 3: get that, or like, oh my god, this is how
- 25:10Speaker 3: we did it, you know.
- 25:12Speaker 4: So I would say for me, like because I was
- 25:16Speaker 4: older than the girls at my PC, I missed like
- 25:18Speaker 4: that kind of mentoring aspect or just being like somebody
- 25:22Speaker 4: that people like came to and I've like wasn't huge.
- 25:27Speaker 3: On going to all the social events and things.
- 25:30Speaker 4: And looking back, I wish I had taken advantage of that.
- 25:34Speaker 4: But and I would say, similar to Laura, like it's
- 25:37Speaker 4: really it's fun seeing like the you know, the sorority
- 25:42Speaker 4: like change shape and welcome new members and and just
- 25:49Speaker 4: like see things to like I don't I don't know,
- 25:53Speaker 4: like just watching like relate to them, Yeah, like finally
- 25:56Speaker 4: get to relate to them.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and maybe you know, I'll be like, oh my god,
- 25:59Speaker 3: like that's how y'all did it, Like this is how
- 26:01Speaker 3: we did it. That's so funny, or like we.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Have a friend Lauren who works for Ihearten. She her
- 26:09Speaker 4: little sisters and her cousin just went through rush and
- 26:12Speaker 4: it was like fun to watch them go through it,
- 26:14Speaker 4: and you know, I wrote one of their rock letters
- 26:17Speaker 4: and like chatting with them about like all things are gone,
- 26:21Speaker 4: Like it was just very nostalgic, is a good way
- 26:24Speaker 4: to put it.
- 26:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, thank you guys so much for coming on
