- 0:01Speaker 1: Some of the content of Patriots Unfiltered may not be
- 0:03Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:08Speaker 2: The world's a big pokas.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Needless bezales When if you know this happened, if well didn't,
- 0:22Speaker 3: is that guy that was the nineteen year old booty?
- 0:25Speaker 3: Is that does that player still exists.
- 0:26Speaker 4: Herefore what that nineteen year old booty?
- 0:28Speaker 5: You can get a drink, bring Greg what happened, and
- 0:31Speaker 5: they can have their little talk and they and they
- 0:33Speaker 5: can break.
- 0:33Speaker 4: It all down their little talk.
- 0:36Speaker 5: If we're going to criticize the guy who left for
- 0:39Speaker 5: his pompous arrogance, and we're not going to point out
- 0:42Speaker 5: the fact that the guy had that would replace them
- 0:44Speaker 5: had a temper chantrum because he's insisting that he knows
- 0:47Speaker 5: more about football than Bill Belichick and wants Bill Belichick gone.
- 0:50Speaker 5: That's to me a little bit of a disconnect.
- 0:52Speaker 4: You think you know who won and Bill you want
- 0:54Speaker 4: Bill out, and you didn't disagree.
- 0:56Speaker 3: I think I know enough to have an opinion that's
- 0:58Speaker 3: different from Bill.
- 0:59Speaker 5: As I as I said before, most of the stuff
- 1:02Speaker 5: I was saying, I've already said to you.
- 1:04Speaker 4: But this one was new.
- 1:05Speaker 6: Audrey says, great draft shows again. I will always listen
- 1:09Speaker 6: to you live my top choice, and Mike was even
- 1:11Speaker 6: funny this year.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Andre's always out my butt.
- 1:13Speaker 6: Yeah, but this is supposed to be my box, so
- 1:15Speaker 6: I don't know how anyone did even get in.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Get somebody's messing with Fred's box.
- 1:19Speaker 5: Please stop Fred's box alone.
- 1:21Speaker 1: This is Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Dunkin.
- 1:27Speaker 4: All right, we are live here je Lets Stadium, Patriots unfiltered,
- 1:30Speaker 4: and yes, big day for you, Big day for Deuce,
- 1:32Speaker 4: Star Wars Day and Fred's out so I get to
- 1:34Speaker 4: I get to host. So people are tuning out, tuning in.
- 1:37Speaker 4: Hopefully I don't scare anybody away.
- 1:39Speaker 5: So you boy Kyle Brandt is all dressed up in costumes.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Well let's preat why you guys are So.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I didn't go friend my solo, but I did wear
- 1:46Speaker 4: my new T shirt that I bought with my birthday money.
- 1:50Speaker 4: My grandma sent me a twenty five dollars check for
- 1:52Speaker 4: your twelfth birthday. I was like, I need, I need
- 1:55Speaker 4: a good Star Wars shirt, So I like this one.
- 1:57Speaker 4: If you're on video, you can see you in a
- 1:58Speaker 4: little old school kind of thing. I haven't though about
- 1:59Speaker 4: your up to but uh gotcha. Uh So anyway, we uh.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I got my my death star pop Socket.
- 2:06Speaker 4: All right, that's uh, that's what. That's not good enough.
- 2:08Speaker 4: But you know, hey, you got Star Wars questions, you
- 2:11Speaker 4: have Star Wars comments call in, and this is the
- 2:13Speaker 4: only day they'll be acceptable here while I'm in the
- 2:15Speaker 4: host chair. We're allowing it. Despite Paul, he's gonna you know.
- 2:20Speaker 5: Fred Spence, No, he does countless hours on this topic.
- 2:24Speaker 4: It's kind of too bad because Fred Fred like Star Wars.
- 2:26Speaker 4: I was hoping we could get him to dress up
- 2:27Speaker 4: like Han Solo.
- 2:28Speaker 5: He usually does something well, he's like Chewbacca every other day,
- 2:33Speaker 5: what like his buddy hair or what incoherent babble that
- 2:39Speaker 5: was what I was.
- 2:40Speaker 4: But you're like the Han Solo who actually understands it.
- 2:42Speaker 4: You can get through it. And they're like, no, I
- 2:44Speaker 4: know what he said.
- 2:44Speaker 5: I'm not part of this in any way.
- 2:47Speaker 4: All right, Well, we'll be here for the next two
- 2:48Speaker 4: hours talking Patriots, getting going a little bit on the draft. Guys,
- 2:52Speaker 4: and Evan's been writing a lot of film reviews. We've
- 2:54Speaker 4: all been talking to their coaches, so we're getting some
- 2:56Speaker 4: more insight onto those players. But I think the big
- 2:59Speaker 4: news of the day to start off with was Mike
- 3:01Speaker 4: Rabel was announced yesterday as the what was it, the
- 3:04Speaker 4: twenty thirty thirty four, four thirty fourth, Yeah, thirty fourth,
- 3:09Speaker 4: that sounds right to me, inductee into the Patriots Hall
- 3:13Speaker 4: of Fame. I did a big rant about it. Well deserved.
- 3:15Speaker 4: He's been you know, on the finalist committee for finalist
- 3:18Speaker 4: list for too long. So nice seven times a charm
- 3:22Speaker 4: for the coach from Tennessee. So we'll see how it
- 3:25Speaker 4: all works out in terms of ceremonies and all that
- 3:27Speaker 4: kind of stuff to get Rabes into the Hall of Fame.
- 3:29Speaker 4: But when you look at that, you know, first dynasty,
- 3:32Speaker 4: he was just such a key part of that defense,
- 3:34Speaker 4: such a key part of just the attitude and also
- 3:36Speaker 4: just one of those guys that kind of started this
- 3:38Speaker 4: trend of you know, getting a guy from another team
- 3:41Speaker 4: that And I don't want to mistate it because talking
- 3:42Speaker 4: of Rabel, you know, he had an opportunity to go
- 3:44Speaker 4: back to Pittsburgh. It wasn't like he just fell off
- 3:47Speaker 4: the map there. I think it was just who was
- 3:48Speaker 4: the name of the outside linebacker that just beat him?
- 3:50Speaker 4: Who everybody knows who's awesome. Not before Joey Porter, like
- 3:53Speaker 4: who there was an outside linebacker. I'm blanking on his name,
- 3:56Speaker 4: one of the one of the famous Steelers that came
- 3:58Speaker 4: in with Raby. Maybe maybe, but you know he said,
- 4:02Speaker 4: I think very said he got a little quicker than me,
- 4:03Speaker 4: so it opened up an opportunity to come here to
- 4:05Speaker 4: New England. But I do think he embodies some of that.
- 4:08Speaker 4: You know, hey, we get a guy who maybe he
- 4:10Speaker 4: signing free agency, not a lot of buzz, but he
- 4:13Speaker 4: comes in and ends up, you know, just being a
- 4:14Speaker 4: core championship piece for I think it was seven or
- 4:17Speaker 4: eight years that he was here.
- 4:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it was a great pick. I think
- 4:21Speaker 5: to me, of the three finalists, he clearly stood above
- 4:25Speaker 5: the other two.
- 4:26Speaker 4: I think all three are deserving.
- 4:27Speaker 5: I wouldn't have to get into that, but I think
- 4:29Speaker 5: Rabel was clearly the choice out of those three, and
- 4:33Speaker 5: I'm glad he finally got in. It will be interesting
- 4:35Speaker 5: you sort of touched on this mic. It'd be interesting
- 4:37Speaker 5: to see how we're able to honor him with the
- 4:40Speaker 5: ceremony since he is an active head coach in the league.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Wouldn't necessarily think it would be the normal like late
- 4:47Speaker 5: July early August timeframe, So we'll see how they get
- 4:50Speaker 5: that done.
- 4:50Speaker 4: It's too bad they couldn't do joint practices here and
- 4:52Speaker 4: just bang them out in the summer, you know, like afternoon.
- 4:55Speaker 4: I think rumors headed to Tennessee. Maybe rumors headed to Packers.
- 4:59Speaker 4: We can talk about that as well. But yeah, I'm
- 5:02Speaker 4: just happy for Vrabel And it just felt of all
- 5:04Speaker 4: the guys to kind of string along, he's like the
- 5:07Speaker 4: worst because he just he has no filter, like he's
- 5:09Speaker 4: just gonna call it like guys.
- 5:10Speaker 3: So that that's sort of what I'm looking forward to is, well,
- 5:13Speaker 3: it took me seven times to get in guys, like
- 5:16Speaker 3: thanks very much. He's a he's a ballbuster, right, so
- 5:19Speaker 3: he's he's totally gonna gonna feed into that. So that
- 5:24Speaker 3: should be good. And I think his speech when he
- 5:26Speaker 3: does go in is going to be fantastic. He's one
- 5:28Speaker 3: of those guys that that commands a room and it
- 5:31Speaker 3: can really head coach you can can speak, but I'm
- 5:34Speaker 3: interested to see what he how much he says, because
- 5:36Speaker 3: he's a head coach for a rival AFC team, and
- 5:40Speaker 3: I would think that a lot of the things that
- 5:41Speaker 3: he did as a as a player, just tactically schematically.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Probably a lot that going on in Tennessee for the
- 5:49Speaker 3: guys that play on the end of the line. So
- 5:51Speaker 3: I'm curious to see how much he opens up about
- 5:54Speaker 3: some of the things that went on in his playing
- 5:56Speaker 3: career from that perspective. But he's going to have a
- 5:58Speaker 3: great a great speech, I'm sure.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Yeah. One of the things I in Teddy Bruski's book
- 6:02Speaker 4: was interesting just talking about Rabel, how he really said,
- 6:05Speaker 4: I really didn't like him. I really didn't like Rabel
- 6:07Speaker 4: very much when they first started interacting, and I mean,
- 6:10Speaker 4: I think he can can probably see why I don't.
- 6:12Speaker 4: Maybe you can speak.
- 6:12Speaker 5: Well, they actually had a big falling out and sort
- 6:15Speaker 5: of toward the end.
- 6:17Speaker 4: As well.
- 6:18Speaker 5: Yeah, they didn't get along because Mike was exactly the
- 6:20Speaker 5: way I even't described. Mike was a professional ball buster
- 6:23Speaker 5: and Teddy was always really serious. So I think that
- 6:27Speaker 5: they Yeah, I think they clashed a little bit in that,
- 6:30Speaker 5: but then they got close. And then Bruski had his
- 6:33Speaker 5: health scare with you know, the stroke and everything that
- 6:36Speaker 5: went along with it, and Mike is the same all
- 6:38Speaker 5: the time. Mike just kept with the ball busting and
- 6:41Speaker 5: Teddy didn't like it, and then they sort of hashed
- 6:44Speaker 5: it out, and I think they're still pretty close now.
- 6:47Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean those some of the stories that
- 6:49Speaker 5: you hear over the years of you know, he used
- 6:51Speaker 5: to make fun of the stroke. Everything was was fair
- 6:55Speaker 5: game to Mike, I mean, and it was like you
- 6:58Speaker 5: you like, yeah, I was spare game too. I mean,
- 7:01Speaker 5: he he did it to Bill Belichick. I you know,
- 7:05Speaker 5: I have a couple of stories that I could tell,
- 7:06Speaker 5: but they're not really suitable for the air. Just he
- 7:10Speaker 5: had one of those personalities either loved him or hated him,
- 7:13Speaker 5: and I loved him, Yeah, absolutely loved him.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Me too. I just enjoyed watching him play. I mean,
- 7:18Speaker 4: the two thousand and five things. I don't know how
- 7:20Speaker 4: much aware of it you were at the time, Evan,
- 7:22Speaker 4: when he you know, moved to the inside. They'd signed
- 7:24Speaker 4: Monty Basil and Chad Brown, and you you go from hey,
- 7:27Speaker 4: we got Teddy Bruski and Ted Johnson Roman Fifer on
- 7:30Speaker 4: the inside, like, you know, this great trio, and then
- 7:32Speaker 4: all of a sudden, it's money Basil and and Chad
- 7:35Speaker 4: Brown trying to go to the inside, and it was
- 7:37Speaker 4: it was a disaster. The two thousand and five. I
- 7:39Speaker 4: think they got smoked by the Chargers here at home,
- 7:41Speaker 4: and that felt like it was, you know, not going
- 7:43Speaker 4: in a great direction. But then Vrabel kind of slid
- 7:45Speaker 4: inside and was able to pick up the slack in there,
- 7:48Speaker 4: so did a lot I think I was. I was
- 7:50Speaker 4: also too just to bring it up. I was surprised
- 7:52Speaker 4: when he got traded. That was I think that was
- 7:54Speaker 4: one of the more weird, weirder endings for a player
- 7:57Speaker 4: of his kind of caliber here when he was just
- 7:59Speaker 4: kind of almos thrown in as I want to say,
- 8:02Speaker 4: an afterthought, but almost just like a bag of pucks,
- 8:04Speaker 4: you know, like a bag of extra bag of ball. Well,
- 8:06Speaker 4: we'll give you Matt Castle, but hey, we'll throw the
- 8:08Speaker 4: Mike Rabel too. I think some of the light that
- 8:10Speaker 4: was shine on that later was you know, Rabel saying
- 8:13Speaker 4: it was an opportunity for me to go to another
- 8:15Speaker 4: organization and learn from other coaches and you know, start
- 8:17Speaker 4: to really kind of build his foundation for coaching. That
- 8:20Speaker 4: that he went to Ohio State and et cetera.
- 8:23Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a little bit of a strange trade,
- 8:25Speaker 5: but you know, you wonder if Kansas City wanted a
- 8:26Speaker 5: little something more you know, for the second round pick.
- 8:30Speaker 5: But yeah, I mean it was kind of a disappointing
- 8:33Speaker 5: ending to his career. And they all talk about it,
- 8:36Speaker 5: most of them. That's how it ends.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, most of them don't.
- 8:39Speaker 5: Get to write the final chapter exactly the way they
- 8:43Speaker 5: want it, you know.
- 8:44Speaker 4: But it all worked out. Just a call from Bill. Ye,
- 8:47Speaker 4: we traded you. That's that's right, And that's kind of
- 8:49Speaker 4: well I should say too. No, I got three of
- 8:51Speaker 4: the Green teamers here, Celtics. Are we all feeling pretty
- 8:54Speaker 4: good right now? Guys?
- 8:56Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean that was the appropriate That was the
- 8:58Speaker 5: appropriate response, right, I don't know, you tell me, Paul, Yeah,
- 9:02Speaker 5: you know, play to your capabilities, that's all anybody asks.
- 9:05Speaker 3: Yeah, the Celtics are fine, Celtics. I already have them
- 9:08Speaker 3: in the NBA Finals.
- 9:10Speaker 4: And how are you doing, Evan? About the Bruns. We
- 9:12Speaker 4: didn't bring it up on Tuesday this time, but you know.
- 9:14Speaker 3: It's tough.
- 9:15Speaker 4: You know, what do you know?
- 9:16Speaker 3: What's tough is is that last night I'm watching the
- 9:19Speaker 3: Celtics do their thing and I'm excited, but there's part
- 9:23Speaker 3: of me that's like this is supposed to be with
- 9:25Speaker 3: the brunt on something, right, This is like they were
- 9:27Speaker 3: supposed to do this together. You know, this this is
- 9:30Speaker 3: not this was not supposed to be a a one
- 9:34Speaker 3: car race here right, Like this was supposed to be
- 9:36Speaker 3: two racing together. So it does hurt that that the
- 9:40Speaker 3: Celtics are are the alone show again, just like last year. Honestly. So, yeah,
- 9:46Speaker 3: it's been it's been a tough couple of days in
- 9:49Speaker 3: the in the Lizargart and you know what, it's funny,
- 9:54Speaker 3: it's a film study it for me, I've been busy,
- 9:58Speaker 3: so that that definitely helps. But it hit to you
- 10:00Speaker 3: like weirdly, just at weird times, or you're just like, oh,
- 10:04Speaker 3: craft like that happened, sounds like a breakoup.
- 10:06Speaker 7: Yeah, you have to keep yourself busy after a breakout. Yeah,
- 10:08Speaker 7: but in some song, I want you to really focus
- 10:11Speaker 7: on yourself the next time.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Like Evin was just like he's walking through the grocery
- 10:13Speaker 4: store and Zombie Nation came on and he was like,
- 10:15Speaker 4: oh god.
- 10:16Speaker 3: I you know, I've always been a big Bruins fan.
- 10:19Speaker 3: I've always watched the majority of their games, but this
- 10:22Speaker 3: regular season was just so electric. It was much must
- 10:25Speaker 3: watch TV every single game. I mean I'd say that
- 10:28Speaker 3: we probably watched eighty of eighty two regular season games
- 10:32Speaker 3: this year. I mean it was every night, you know,
- 10:35Speaker 3: and then we went to a bunch of games too,
- 10:37Speaker 3: So this one hurt. It did it hurt?
- 10:40Speaker 4: We don't need to be labor it and thank you.
- 10:42Speaker 4: I should mention too, Evan, and I think Alex will
- 10:45Speaker 4: head out. We're gonna hear from Mike Kasiki today, another
- 10:47Speaker 4: free agent and the line of free agents. We talked
- 10:51Speaker 4: to Juju on Tuesday, and now they're also going to
- 10:54Speaker 4: do a conference call with Mike Rabel. Uh, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 4: get his reaction, which I think we're we're all looking
- 10:59Speaker 4: forward to. And then I would say, Alex, what have
- 11:02Speaker 4: you been up to, because you've been out and about
- 11:03Speaker 4: with a lot of different social stuff, a lot of
- 11:05Speaker 4: different players that have been hanging around. Yeah, this's going
- 11:08Speaker 4: on to see.
- 11:08Speaker 7: Our team had at an event every single day leading
- 11:11Speaker 7: up to the draft, so I'm just trying to come
- 11:14Speaker 7: down after the last couple of weeks. But yeah, I
- 11:17Speaker 7: actually got to meet a lot of the new guys
- 11:20Speaker 7: last week, the free agents, new signings at this awesome
- 11:24Speaker 7: video game event that was put on for children and
- 11:27Speaker 7: military families. So that was a good way for guys
- 11:30Speaker 7: like Josechi Juju to kind of get acquainted to all
- 11:33Speaker 7: the stuff we have going on here off the field.
- 11:35Speaker 4: For them get ready. And I know and I saw,
- 11:37Speaker 4: I just saw some footage of Christian Gonzalez. He's back
- 11:40Speaker 4: working out. I know we've all been talking to to
- 11:44Speaker 4: various coaches as we get caught up. Is there anything
- 11:46Speaker 4: so far that you guys would like to share that
- 11:48Speaker 4: you've you've.
- 11:49Speaker 5: A better Evan question, and then I haven't really been
- 11:52Speaker 5: able to touch base with any of my guys.
- 11:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I can, I can, I can, and I know
- 11:55Speaker 4: you did.
- 11:55Speaker 3: You did Gonzalez, Gonzalez tomorrow, Douglas and Tony Maffei yesterday
- 12:03Speaker 3: with with his offensive line coach at U c l A.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I think the biggest one with Gonzalez, I had a
- 12:09Speaker 3: pretty good talk with A Demetrius Martin and we'll we'll
- 12:12Speaker 3: publish it with all the quotes and everything here in
- 12:13Speaker 3: the next couple of days. But just about his demeanor,
- 12:17Speaker 3: you know, his his play temperament. I think there's a
- 12:19Speaker 3: lot of question marks about his physicality and about his competitiveness.
- 12:23Speaker 3: And he's a more he's a subdued guy, He's a
- 12:27Speaker 3: he's a quiet, soft spoken person. He's not Richard Sherman.
- 12:32Speaker 3: He's not a raw, raw in your face. I'm the
- 12:34Speaker 3: greatest thing ever type of corner. And I think the
- 12:37Speaker 3: big thing that that Martin said, unprompted, said to me
- 12:42Speaker 3: was a lot like Stefan Gilmour. And I had already
- 12:47Speaker 3: thought of that when we sat down with him when
- 12:49Speaker 3: he came in that Friday after the draft. But I
- 12:53Speaker 3: didn't want to put that on the kid, to be like, oh,
- 12:55Speaker 3: he's gonna be like Stefan Gilmore, because you know that
- 12:58Speaker 3: that's a lot of expectation. But I think that from
- 13:02Speaker 3: a personality standpoint, he has this quiet confidence about him
- 13:08Speaker 3: that was very similar to Steph. When you were in
- 13:11Speaker 3: a scrum with Steph, you couldn't hear him, I know,
- 13:14Speaker 3: but when if you were in the front, if you
- 13:17Speaker 3: were in the front of the scrum and you actually
- 13:19Speaker 3: listen to the things that he was saying, the dude
- 13:21Speaker 3: was cocky.
- 13:22Speaker 4: He was very cocky.
- 13:26Speaker 5: He was my favorite interview in all the years because of.
- 13:29Speaker 3: That fantastic I love talking ball with him. He was
- 13:32Speaker 3: awesome and he he would just come right out and
- 13:34Speaker 3: say it, you know. I remember after they played the
- 13:37Speaker 3: Eagles in Philly that game that Brady was grumpy afterwards
- 13:40Speaker 3: because the offense didn't play well, but they still won
- 13:42Speaker 3: the game, and in a couple of key situations they
- 13:45Speaker 3: moved Gilmour on to zach Ertz just because that was
- 13:48Speaker 3: the Phillies go to guy on third down. They didn't
- 13:50Speaker 3: really have anybody on the outside at the time, and
- 13:53Speaker 3: he basically just said it was easy. He was like,
- 13:55Speaker 3: you know, Gilmore was like, well, it's much easier than
- 13:57Speaker 3: covering a receiver. He's slow, you know, he's slow.
- 14:00Speaker 5: I used to do things I used to do, like
- 14:01Speaker 5: matchups for you know, key matchups during the week heading
- 14:05Speaker 5: into games, and I remember talking to him about one
- 14:08Speaker 5: in particular, and I'm not going to say the name,
- 14:11Speaker 5: but you know, I was like, you know, so, you know,
- 14:14Speaker 5: what is what kinds of challenges does he you know?
- 14:16Speaker 4: Present? Yeah?
- 14:18Speaker 5: He said none, yeah, yeah, only it was yeah, none, really,
- 14:24Speaker 5: you know, that's how he said. It was like Richard
- 14:26Speaker 5: Sherman would be at a podium saying, you know, Michael
- 14:30Speaker 5: cap Crabtree, you can't put a.
- 14:32Speaker 4: Sorry receiver on you know.
- 14:33Speaker 5: Yeah, Steph was saying the same thing, just coming across
- 14:37Speaker 5: an entirely different.
- 14:38Speaker 3: I think I know who you're talking about, but we
- 14:40Speaker 3: don't have to say the name.
- 14:41Speaker 4: Okay, he's not on the team. Now, I don't know
- 14:46Speaker 4: this guy. I just do it. Now, why would you
- 14:48Speaker 4: automatically go there?
- 14:49Speaker 8: I know?
- 14:50Speaker 3: But yeah, no, I the guy that I know that
- 14:52Speaker 3: he said that about is not on the team.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Okay, good, Yeah, because I was thinking back to J. C.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Jackson kind of rolling his eyes. Yeah yeah, somebody else.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Yeah, but that was the big takeaway from that one,
- 15:04Speaker 3: I felt like. And the other thing that he mentioned,
- 15:06Speaker 3: which I thought was as soon as he said this,
- 15:08Speaker 3: I was like, oh god, this is so patriot like.
- 15:11Speaker 3: He he said that he kept Gonzalez's notebooks to show
- 15:16Speaker 3: freshmen coming in this is how you take notes during meetings.
- 15:20Speaker 3: And he said that Gonzalez's notebooks were organized, color coded,
- 15:25Speaker 3: like everything just you know, completely perfect. And he was like,
- 15:29Speaker 3: you know that, that's what I want my young guys
- 15:32Speaker 3: to emulate. And obviously, with Gonzalez being a first round pick,
- 15:37Speaker 3: it's easy to get guys on board when you say, hey,
- 15:39Speaker 3: this is what Christian Gonzales did and look at where
- 15:41Speaker 3: it got him. And these guys come in and they say, well,
- 15:44Speaker 3: I want to be drafted in the first round too,
- 15:46Speaker 3: so they go ahead and they mimic it. That was
- 15:49Speaker 3: the big thing from him, I think, you know, with
- 15:53Speaker 3: with Mafi, we talked a lot about Bill Belichick's relationship
- 15:57Speaker 3: with Chip Kelly and how after the Shrine Bowl Coach
- 16:02Speaker 3: Belichick called Coach Kelly and they had a long talk
- 16:04Speaker 3: about some of the U c l A guys and
- 16:07Speaker 3: Mafi's name was one of the big names.
- 16:09Speaker 4: That that was Bbo one of the big names too.
- 16:12Speaker 3: He didn't mention anybody else.
- 16:13Speaker 4: He just said it, and I'll just assume it was.
- 16:15Speaker 3: I don't right because in my back of my head,
- 16:18Speaker 3: I was thinking DTR, you know, Bobo like the other
- 16:22Speaker 3: what did he What did he say about DTR because
- 16:25Speaker 3: they obviously didn't draft I don't think he was at
- 16:29Speaker 3: the Shrine Bowl, but he was a LA running back
- 16:32Speaker 3: and uh and he said that, you know, based off
- 16:35Speaker 3: of the conversations he had with Chip, that that you know,
- 16:37Speaker 3: Coach Belichick was really really high on on Mafy coming
- 16:41Speaker 3: off the Shrine Bowl. So one of those guys that
- 16:43Speaker 3: if you had known that back then, he would have
- 16:45Speaker 3: been in all of our ur mock drafts, you know,
- 16:48Speaker 3: for the next six months. So that was interesting trying
- 16:52Speaker 3: to think who was the to Mario Douglas. I got
- 16:55Speaker 3: a lot of you know, Marcus Jones, but on offense, right,
- 17:01Speaker 3: those types of plays maybe not quite as dynamic as
- 17:05Speaker 3: Marcus in the open field. But that's the idea that
- 17:08Speaker 3: a lot of people thought of. And one thing that
- 17:10Speaker 3: was interesting about him was that the Patriots went into
- 17:13Speaker 3: the Shrine Bowl wanting to coach to Mario Douglas, and
- 17:18Speaker 3: the Shrinebral director Eric Galco said to me, you know,
- 17:20Speaker 3: they said they had to me a list of like
- 17:21Speaker 3: ten to fifteen guys. Most of them were guys that
- 17:25Speaker 3: were big names that were going to get drafted in
- 17:27Speaker 3: the first you know, three or four rounds of the draft,
- 17:30Speaker 3: and then randomly they just had to Mario Douglas on
- 17:33Speaker 3: the list. And he just said, I had to tip
- 17:36Speaker 3: my cap, like that's good scouting, Like this kid is
- 17:39Speaker 3: a good player, and you know, so they had him
- 17:41Speaker 3: on the radar because of the Malik Willis season the
- 17:44Speaker 3: year before, and they wanted to coach him as well.
- 17:47Speaker 3: So a couple of guys there from the Shrine Bowl
- 17:49Speaker 3: that I think the Patriots were all over, even back
- 17:52Speaker 3: in January.
- 17:53Speaker 4: I've done a couple. I talked to Timpu's coach, who
- 17:56Speaker 4: was his defensive coordinator at Sacramento State and then was
- 17:59Speaker 4: promoted the head which this last year. But interestingly enough
- 18:01Speaker 4: grew up with with Drew Bledsoe. His dad, coroached with
- 18:03Speaker 4: Drew Bledsoe and in Walla Wallace, of course, I had
- 18:06Speaker 4: you know.
- 18:06Speaker 7: There's so many Patriots connections.
- 18:08Speaker 4: Well, I know, I wrote a whole little thing about
- 18:09Speaker 4: it with Sam Mateo and and Mafi, you know, going
- 18:14Speaker 4: to to the school with where Brady went. Of course,
- 18:17Speaker 4: Junior Sea, the Junior Se connection, which was another thing
- 18:20Speaker 4: that Devon cousin. Devon cousin, Yeah, City Sat was talking
- 18:26Speaker 4: about all the Patriots fans up in Quebec. But I
- 18:28Speaker 4: stopped listening after he said he was a Canadians fan.
- 18:30Speaker 4: Like I don't, I don't care what you have to
- 18:32Speaker 4: say that there should be some fun in the in
- 18:34Speaker 4: the locker room this year with that, with him being
- 18:37Speaker 4: a Canadians fan.
- 18:39Speaker 7: To speak French too, he speaks beautiful French.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Well, it's a beautiful language. And I've reached out to
- 18:47Speaker 4: Deon Sanders because I mean, I think everybody probably saw
- 18:50Speaker 4: Isaiah Bolden. The tweet about Isaiah Bolden that Deon Sanders
- 18:52Speaker 4: put out, I'm not I'm not hoping to you know,
- 18:54Speaker 4: get get him reached out to, you know, Jackson State's
- 18:57Speaker 4: new head coach as well, who was with the team
- 18:59Speaker 4: last year. But you know, these are the kind of
- 19:01Speaker 4: things we do. After the draft, We try to, you know,
- 19:03Speaker 4: reach out to these coaches and I mean, you always
- 19:05Speaker 4: gets as Paul jokes, you know, you get a very
- 19:06Speaker 4: favorable opinion of these guys. Of course, they love their guys,
- 19:09Speaker 4: they wanted to do well, but it's it's just interesting
- 19:11Speaker 4: to learn about their journey to getting to this.
- 19:12Speaker 5: Yeah, that's why, like when I talk to them, I'm
- 19:15Speaker 5: less interested in what they think of them as players,
- 19:17Speaker 5: although obviously I asked those questions, but I'm more interested in,
- 19:20Speaker 5: you know, the personality and their interactions with their teammates
- 19:25Speaker 5: and the background.
- 19:25Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's really I'm the same way. It's
- 19:29Speaker 3: just tell me the story of the player, because these guys,
- 19:32Speaker 3: there's no way that we're going to know some of
- 19:33Speaker 3: the details that these coaches are going to know. And
- 19:36Speaker 3: it's cool to hear a lot, you know. Demetrius Martin
- 19:38Speaker 3: told me that he tried to recruit Gonzales to Arizona
- 19:43Speaker 3: originally and didn't get them. He ended up committing to Colorado,
- 19:47Speaker 3: and then it just so happens that Martin ended up
- 19:50Speaker 3: getting a job at Colorado a year later and then
- 19:53Speaker 3: ended up coaching Gonzales for three years anyway, So it
- 19:56Speaker 3: just kind of those connections and how those types of
- 19:59Speaker 3: things tend to work out. And then tomorrow I got
- 20:01Speaker 3: a Jim Nagy on UH. He's gonna give me a
- 20:04Speaker 3: call and we're gonna talk about uh, Jake Andrews and
- 20:08Speaker 3: some of the Senior Bowl guys and see what he
- 20:10Speaker 3: has to say about the draft in general. As an
- 20:12Speaker 3: ex Patriot exec scout, I.
- 20:15Speaker 4: Interested to see what they say about Mapu because I
- 20:17Speaker 4: mean that was something I talked to his coach about.
- 20:19Speaker 4: He was a late call up and I made some impression.
- 20:22Speaker 4: I mean, you should check out Evans piece that he
- 20:23Speaker 4: wrote about him today. A lot of focus on his
- 20:26Speaker 4: performance there in the practice. I think he only played
- 20:28Speaker 4: a half. That we got a little bit of an injury.
- 20:30Speaker 4: I mean, I know that's a concern about the torn peck.
- 20:33Speaker 4: He said he should be available by training camp, but
- 20:36Speaker 4: otherwise very durable player played. He's the coach said, he's
- 20:40Speaker 4: every game, every practice. He was always there and got
- 20:44Speaker 4: a little bit of interesting bits to talk to. Eastern
- 20:46Speaker 4: Michigan coach Course City sou and Uh and the kicker
- 20:48Speaker 4: Chad Ryland both spent time there. I can't keep track
- 20:51Speaker 4: all these guys. There's too many, well, twelve is too many.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Also, the nil situation and all these guys training, like
- 20:57Speaker 3: Gonzales was two years at Colorado then or again, and
- 21:01Speaker 3: no one's at one school for all four.
- 21:04Speaker 4: Of my guys. I think we're at multiple schools.
- 21:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:07Speaker 4: I really like what the coach said about Ryland though
- 21:09Speaker 4: the quote I share what Paul was. He said he
- 21:11Speaker 4: came out of the womb mature, like he's just a
- 21:13Speaker 4: mature kid, unflappable in I mean, it's all the things
- 21:17Speaker 4: you would hope from a kicker. Yeah, yeah, I mean,
- 21:22Speaker 4: I don't know. I just I haven't seen him and
- 21:23Speaker 4: I haven't met him, but he looked he looked really
- 21:25Speaker 4: young to me. That's why I'm trying to like kind
- 21:27Speaker 4: of circle all that back of like he's really mature,
- 21:29Speaker 4: but he looks like he's like fourteen.
- 21:30Speaker 5: It is one of those things that you'll start now
- 21:33Speaker 5: that you're starting to get a little older, Mike, you'll
- 21:35Speaker 5: stuck a little bit.
- 21:36Speaker 4: Just how much younger they all look. I appreciate that.
- 21:38Speaker 7: I already feel because when I started doing this, I'm
- 21:41Speaker 7: like the same age as these guys, maybe even younger
- 21:43Speaker 7: in some cases.
- 21:44Speaker 4: And now I'm just like, wait till you're older than
- 21:46Speaker 4: every professional athlete currently playing.
- 21:49Speaker 3: I don't think you and I can talk quite yet.
- 21:53Speaker 4: Your veterans, your veteran age now though, Like if you're
- 21:55Speaker 4: playing sports, you're not the You're not the young bucks.
- 21:59Speaker 7: I am d or twise his age, Yeah, we're the
- 22:01Speaker 7: same age.
- 22:02Speaker 3: How I think about this a lot with with players
- 22:06Speaker 3: like Matthew Judah and I are roughly the same age.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Matthew Judah, Like, I'm just I'm just like what wait what.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Or you see these guys that were born in like
- 22:15Speaker 4: two thousands? Yeah, like I was, I was already an adult.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, I just look at Judaan and I look
- 22:21Speaker 3: at myself and I'm like, where this Like I'm a
- 22:23Speaker 3: child in comparison size wise?
- 22:27Speaker 4: Yeah? Right?
- 22:27Speaker 5: And I just think Brandon Merriweather was the first guy
- 22:30Speaker 5: that I watched him, you know, when we had the
- 22:32Speaker 5: whole Dog and Pony show on the field when they
- 22:35Speaker 5: you know, Robin and Jonathan bring him out and I
- 22:37Speaker 5: was looking, I was like, he's a baby, and that
- 22:41Speaker 5: was what seven yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 5: So that's when it kind of like hit to me,
- 22:45Speaker 5: like I'm way I mean, obviously I was older than
- 22:49Speaker 5: all of them at the start, but I'm way older
- 22:52Speaker 5: than all of these guys now. And it's like, I
- 22:54Speaker 5: don't think anything more and more pronounced every year.
- 22:56Speaker 4: I don't think anything's as striking as that introduction, just
- 22:58Speaker 4: because I think it's usually a kid who isn't used
- 23:01Speaker 4: to that, like being put on the on the stage
- 23:03Speaker 4: and you know, and it's funny because the Q and
- 23:05Speaker 4: A they don't even like they give him a microphone
- 23:07Speaker 4: and no one goes near them. It's almost like the
- 23:09Speaker 4: audience it's so strange. Ask some questions like hello, Christian,
- 23:13Speaker 4: thank you for coming, Like, well, what do you think.
- 23:15Speaker 7: He's on the stage in front of like twenty people?
- 23:18Speaker 7: Maybe who are I mean, I've seen him twenty five
- 23:21Speaker 7: feet behind him.
- 23:22Speaker 4: I've seen him coll and Mac and just each one
- 23:25Speaker 4: of those guys. It's just like, oh my god, they
- 23:27Speaker 4: are babies and this is you know, you just you
- 23:29Speaker 4: forget that these kids seem so young, and yet they've
- 23:32Speaker 4: got to go into the NFL and deal with like
- 23:34Speaker 4: these giant, mean guys. I mean, I think key On
- 23:36Speaker 4: White looks ready to deal with it, but someone like
- 23:39Speaker 4: Christian Cane.
- 23:41Speaker 7: I was doing some stalking on social media also trying
- 23:44Speaker 7: to get acquainted with these players for my own pieces.
- 23:47Speaker 7: I saw tweet from the official Gardner High School lacrosse
- 23:50Speaker 7: account congratulating lacrosse a lum key On White for getting drafted,
- 23:56Speaker 7: and I can't find anything else about him playing.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Lacrosse in high schools.
- 24:02Speaker 7: So I spent way too much time this morning looking
- 24:06Speaker 7: at North Carolina high schools Tarty trying to find anything
- 24:09Speaker 7: I can find about him playing lacrosse, because everything is
- 24:12Speaker 7: just football and basketball. But if he played lacrosse, I
- 24:14Speaker 7: can't wait for people to drive that narrative into the ground.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Well it'd be like Jim Brown, right, I mean, they
- 24:18Speaker 4: had to change the lacrosse rules because if Jim Brown
- 24:20Speaker 4: he just put the ball over his chest and through everybody,
- 24:23Speaker 4: it'd probably be something similar.
- 24:24Speaker 7: But I saw a story about him too. He was
- 24:26Speaker 7: playing basketball once and like popped his ankle out of
- 24:30Speaker 7: place and just popped it right back in.
- 24:31Speaker 4: Oh.
- 24:31Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a very bad injury for him.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean two years that kind of right, I mean.
- 24:37Speaker 5: Yeah, he that was part of the because Marco Coleman,
- 24:41Speaker 5: who some of our listeners, Evan, I bet you did,
- 24:43Speaker 5: Mike didn't. He had a long NFL career. He was
- 24:47Speaker 5: a defensive line coach at Georgia Tech and he's been
- 24:50Speaker 5: there for four years. But unfortunately he had left and
- 24:54Speaker 5: came back and he did not coach keon last year,
- 24:58Speaker 5: the year that he kind of broke out right, And
- 25:02Speaker 5: you know, so when I was talking to and that
- 25:04Speaker 5: I was talking to the one of the you know,
- 25:06Speaker 5: people in sports information, and we discussed that, it's like, yeah,
- 25:10Speaker 5: like the year that Marco was with him, he had
- 25:13Speaker 5: that freak. I think he slipped like on a T
- 25:15Speaker 5: shirt or something like that and dislocated his ankle and
- 25:18Speaker 5: basically cost him the whole season. He played sparingly in
- 25:22Speaker 5: about four games that that year, and it wasn't until
- 25:27Speaker 5: last year that he sort of re established the level
- 25:29Speaker 5: that he left ODU with. So that was a significant
- 25:33Speaker 5: injury for him, that that ankle problem. And I think
- 25:36Speaker 5: you know, Booty obviously has a significant. He's the only
- 25:39Speaker 5: one of the four guys that I'm doing profiles that
- 25:42Speaker 5: was at the same school all his whole career. The
- 25:45Speaker 5: other three were at multiple schools.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Yeah, when I was talking to some people on Monday
- 25:50Speaker 3: that the injury for for Kean White did come up,
- 25:55Speaker 3: and I was I didn't really know how bad it was,
- 25:59Speaker 3: But seems like before the injury, that explosiveness, that first
- 26:03Speaker 3: step that I didn't really see on film was more
- 26:05Speaker 3: present before the injury. So maybe as we've put some
- 26:10Speaker 3: distance between that even more, that that comes back a
- 26:13Speaker 3: little bit. But it's just really interesting to hear all
- 26:17Speaker 3: their stories, and a lot of these guys, I think,
- 26:20Speaker 3: you know, our late breakout players, you know, like a
- 26:23Speaker 3: guy like Tomoro Douglas is not even on anybody's radar
- 26:27Speaker 3: until the Malik Willis year a couple of years ago.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Even from high school where he's getting basically fcs and
- 26:33Speaker 3: Division two offers, he's not on nobody's radar, despite setting
- 26:37Speaker 3: records at his high school and receiving and receiving touchdowns.
- 26:40Speaker 3: But even then still it's just not it's too late,
- 26:44Speaker 3: you know, once he's a senior in high school, all
- 26:47Speaker 3: these recruiting classes are already filled out by that point
- 26:49Speaker 3: for a lot of these major schools. So he might
- 26:52Speaker 3: have gone to a Power five program had he been
- 26:55Speaker 3: a junior breakout in high school, but because it didn't
- 26:58Speaker 3: happen until fall the senior you know, they've already handed
- 27:01Speaker 3: out all of their scholarships and all of their roster
- 27:03Speaker 3: spots and things like that. So it's always interesting to
- 27:06Speaker 3: hear about the late breakout guys.
- 27:08Speaker 7: Especially with COVID too, Like a lot of these guys
- 27:10Speaker 7: had to deal with It's.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Such a factor.
- 27:12Speaker 5: It's another thing that like again, except for Booty, the
- 27:16Speaker 5: other three guys are like six years six six year
- 27:18Speaker 5: college careers for whatever they set out.
- 27:20Speaker 4: Yeah, a lot of them transferred because of that. I mean,
- 27:23Speaker 4: it's it's still an impact.
- 27:24Speaker 7: I mean, and the scouting side too, to scout try
- 27:27Speaker 7: and scout players.
- 27:28Speaker 4: When that's you've still got the massive guys coming in.
- 27:30Speaker 4: I mean, you know, City sounds like twenty five. I
- 27:33Speaker 4: mean he's going to be twenty five, I think next month,
- 27:35Speaker 4: So he's a six year guy. Yeah. That and I
- 27:37Speaker 4: should say too, that was another interesting piece of my
- 27:40Speaker 4: conversation with with coach Creighton there in Eastern Michigan was that.
- 27:43Speaker 4: You know, he said, if I had two City Souths,
- 27:45Speaker 4: they would have played left guard and left tackle, and
- 27:47Speaker 4: we just felt we could he would be more effective
- 27:49Speaker 4: for us overall with what we run being on the inside.
- 27:53Speaker 4: So I know that that was some speculation over the
- 27:54Speaker 4: last couple of days. I mean, I don't want to
- 27:56Speaker 4: put too much into it because I feel like some
- 27:57Speaker 4: people see a report that City said could possibly play tackle,
- 28:01Speaker 4: and all of a sudden, they're like, well, that's it, it
- 28:03Speaker 4: all makes sense. Now he's going to be there new
- 28:04Speaker 4: Like I don't know, but he's a big, powerful dude.
- 28:07Speaker 4: And the coach kept talking about just his kind of
- 28:09Speaker 4: surprising athleticism. For you know, somebody came from Canada, was
- 28:13Speaker 4: a defensive lineman. He said, we watched him. They were
- 28:15Speaker 4: I think you guys probably know the story. They were
- 28:17Speaker 4: on a bus of like forty Canadian kids driving around
- 28:20Speaker 4: to different showcases and camps, trying to, you know, show
- 28:22Speaker 4: what they can do to college coaches, and the Eastern
- 28:25Speaker 4: Michigan guys saw him and right away were like, he
- 28:27Speaker 4: can play offensive line. They were actually there to see
- 28:29Speaker 4: somebody else and they liked Citi sow Enough, who was
- 28:33Speaker 4: at the time a defensive lineman. They liked him enough
- 28:35Speaker 4: as his projection that they offered him right there to
- 28:37Speaker 4: be on the offensive line. And then, you know, I
- 28:39Speaker 4: think he paid like dress for fifty five games, started
- 28:42Speaker 4: like fifty three games. So you know, it's a double
- 28:45Speaker 4: edged sword. On one hand, You're right, he's old and
- 28:47Speaker 4: you know he's probably maxed out. But at the same time,
- 28:50Speaker 4: he's got a lot of experience. So hopefully that maybe
- 28:52Speaker 4: helps accelerate his development process and you know, maybe he
- 28:55Speaker 4: does end up because I don't see it as a
- 28:58Speaker 4: monumental task to say if he can tackle that he
- 29:00Speaker 4: could be that third swing tackle this year, you know
- 29:02Speaker 4: behind Maybe let's say we start off with I don't know,
- 29:06Speaker 4: at right tackle, you know the vet and you know
- 29:08Speaker 4: Trump Brown, you know Riley Reef and Trent Brown, and
- 29:10Speaker 4: then wait for you know, do somebody get hurt, does
- 29:12Speaker 4: somebody break down, and then maybe at that point you
- 29:14Speaker 4: make a move. But I think an opportunity is there
- 29:16Speaker 4: if he could possibly make that switch.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's interesting that you mentioned that he
- 29:21Speaker 3: that he played defense, because Mafi was a nose tackle
- 29:24Speaker 3: for two years at UCLA before they moved him over
- 29:27Speaker 3: and I think one of the interesting things about him
- 29:29Speaker 3: was he's like four hundred pounds playing nose tackle, and
- 29:32Speaker 3: then his coaches said that this year he really bought
- 29:35Speaker 3: in to the program, brought into being you know, a
- 29:39Speaker 3: pro pro so to speak, and lost like forty pounds
- 29:43Speaker 3: from diet and exercise and all that type of stuff.
- 29:46Speaker 3: So he was a big, big guy, played nose tackle,
- 29:50Speaker 3: was a regular contributor at nose tackle, and then switches
- 29:53Speaker 3: over to guard. And he just looks like Mike on Winnoo.
- 29:57Speaker 3: You know, he's built like Mike on win who moves
- 29:59Speaker 3: like Mike on w I knew, so he's someone that
- 30:01Speaker 3: definitely projects inside. But sow I he's got the athleticism
- 30:06Speaker 3: for it. I mean, his arm length is right on
- 30:08Speaker 3: the threshold, like he just checks the box barely. But
- 30:11Speaker 3: his athleticism at the combine definitely tests out as an
- 30:14Speaker 3: above average tackle athlete. So we'll see. He hasn't played
- 30:18Speaker 3: tackle since eighteen or nineteen. First year, I think, yeah,
- 30:22Speaker 3: and he his guard tape definitely showed somebody that his
- 30:26Speaker 3: skill set is best suited at guard. It's pretty similar
- 30:29Speaker 3: to ANUNU right where yeah, he could play tackle, but
- 30:33Speaker 3: just the way that he plays in a phone booth
- 30:35Speaker 3: just looks better to play him out at guard. I
- 30:38Speaker 3: think if you give him more space and ask him
- 30:41Speaker 3: to block on an island in pass protection, I don't
- 30:45Speaker 3: know if he's necessarily going to hold up out there,
- 30:47Speaker 3: but we'll see. I mean, this is what.
- 30:49Speaker 4: They don't have a lot of young promising depth there.
- 30:51Speaker 4: I mean, yeah, I know Andrew Stuer. I don't know
- 30:54Speaker 4: if any of these guys are going to does he exists?
- 30:57Speaker 9: I've forgotten about last year's d.
- 31:00Speaker 4: That's something Paul broke me up. I think as having
- 31:02Speaker 4: high expectations for low, low output guy like not that
- 31:06Speaker 4: I ever had high, but you know, you always just
- 31:07Speaker 4: have in the back of your mind like this guy,
- 31:09Speaker 4: he didn't do anything.
- 31:10Speaker 5: I think it's kind of a simple thing and there's
- 31:12Speaker 5: always outliers. But I feel like when you have new
- 31:15Speaker 5: guys that come on to the team in general, if
- 31:17Speaker 5: they turn out to be something significant, you see it
- 31:20Speaker 5: right away.
- 31:21Speaker 4: Now.
- 31:22Speaker 5: There are definitely examples of guys that are on like
- 31:24Speaker 5: IR the first year or practice squad and afterthought, and
- 31:29Speaker 5: then they year two. It's a big jump. But like
- 31:33Speaker 5: to me, Ronnie Perkins as an example, that's a good one.
- 31:36Speaker 5: You know, when he comes in as a rookie and
- 31:38Speaker 5: you're not seeing him with regular players. I don't want
- 31:41Speaker 5: to use the starters and backups because I know they
- 31:44Speaker 5: don't like that. But when you don't see him getting
- 31:46Speaker 5: a lot of reps, I don't think that they feel
- 31:49Speaker 5: like he is potentially going to be a part of
- 31:51Speaker 5: the mix. And conversely, sometimes you see some young guys
- 31:56Speaker 5: that are from day one, Wow, he's like rotating in
- 31:59Speaker 5: with David Andrews at center, and not just to use
- 32:02Speaker 5: a butler.
- 32:03Speaker 4: Wasn't he one that just was kind of getting some.
- 32:05Speaker 5: Constantly showing up in groups with the front line players,
- 32:09Speaker 5: and you're like, they like this kid. You can tell
- 32:11Speaker 5: they like them because they're letting him play with guys
- 32:14Speaker 5: that are going to be playing. And again it's there's
- 32:18Speaker 5: never one hundred percent one or the other. But yeah,
- 32:22Speaker 5: Andrew Stuber was injured coming in, so I'm going to
- 32:24Speaker 5: give him a little bit of a pass. We'll see,
- 32:28Speaker 5: but I'd be surprised if they thought a lot of
- 32:30Speaker 5: chasing Hines and Andrew Stuber based on drafting three more
- 32:35Speaker 5: quote unquote backup offensive lineman in day three.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Especially in the in the fourth round. The fourth round
- 32:41Speaker 3: is usually a lock to make the roster.
- 32:43Speaker 4: Yeah, most likely not going to get cut.
- 32:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree, unless they're completely in over their heads
- 32:49Speaker 3: in training camp. Now, could I see one of those
- 32:51Speaker 3: guys getting Foxborough fluide and you stash them an I
- 32:54Speaker 3: are for a year one hundred and ten percent. But
- 32:56Speaker 3: in terms of protecting them where they can't be poached
- 32:59Speaker 3: by other teams, you don't just cut fourth round picks.
- 33:02Speaker 3: Most of the time as rookies, those guys tend to stick.
- 33:05Speaker 3: And I think Mafi, even though he's a fifth rounder,
- 33:07Speaker 3: I would put him in that category too, just based
- 33:09Speaker 3: off of.
- 33:10Speaker 5: How much I like his profile better than the other two.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Well, I like his film better than the other two too.
- 33:15Speaker 3: I think he can really play, and at the Shrine
- 33:17Speaker 3: Bowl he was one of the better linemen there. And
- 33:19Speaker 3: I remember talking to some people at the Shrine Bowl
- 33:22Speaker 3: and a lot of them were pretty lukewarm on the
- 33:24Speaker 3: linement that were there. You know, the guys are probably
- 33:27Speaker 3: going to be end of the draft, maybe you know,
- 33:29Speaker 3: priority free agents for the most part, but he was
- 33:31Speaker 3: somebody that really stood out, especially his play strength and
- 33:36Speaker 3: his ability to pull like he's three hundred and thirty pounds.
- 33:39Speaker 3: But he can pull and he can block on the
- 33:41Speaker 3: move a little bit better than you would expect. I
- 33:43Speaker 3: think that comes from playing defense maybe and being a
- 33:46Speaker 3: little bit lighter on his feet than you would expect.
- 33:48Speaker 3: So I like him the best out of all of
- 33:49Speaker 3: them as well.
- 33:50Speaker 4: All right, A five to five pats five hundred. You
- 33:52Speaker 4: like to give us a call, send us an email,
- 33:54Speaker 4: web radio at Patriots dot com. I don't know Star
- 33:57Speaker 4: Wars questions yet. I'm holding out hope for one of them,
- 34:00Speaker 4: and we're gonna lose Evan.
- 34:01Speaker 5: And Alex nice Jeff setting the table, make thank you.
- 34:04Speaker 4: I appreciate that. I'm gonna do a better job reading
- 34:06Speaker 4: the emails today because I don't want Audrey up my
- 34:08Speaker 4: butt still about my so I'm going to read them slowly.
- 34:11Speaker 7: I saw the Patriots unfiltered like without context account tweet
- 34:15Speaker 7: that yesterday and I was like, what.
- 34:19Speaker 4: After I left. I appreciate it. I appreciate it, and
- 34:21Speaker 4: you know, hey, we can all take a little constructive
- 34:23Speaker 4: criticism and you know, try to be better and all that, right,
- 34:25Speaker 4: But let's let's jump to the phones.
- 34:27Speaker 1: Now.
- 34:27Speaker 4: We got Todd in North Carolina.
- 34:28Speaker 10: Hate Todd Hey, guys, I said before draft that I
- 34:32Speaker 10: was really hoping that they would address the current league
- 34:35Speaker 10: model on how everything works. I think they made that
- 34:38Speaker 10: an attempt. I think with their draft picks, they didn't
- 34:40Speaker 10: get a receiver early. They tried to build up the defense.
- 34:44Speaker 10: They did take a couple of interesting receiver prospect blate,
- 34:47Speaker 10: but they built up in speed and stuff. And I
- 34:49Speaker 10: remember calling in pre draft and talking to you guys
- 34:51Speaker 10: and think, you know, this is how I could judge
- 34:54Speaker 10: whether you know, Bill still had his hat in the game.
- 34:57Speaker 10: And I really think the draft shows that he does that.
- 34:59Speaker 10: They made an.
- 35:00Speaker 4: Effort, all right.
- 35:03Speaker 10: And my other comment is Juju. I really like what
- 35:07Speaker 10: he said. I really think that the offense needs to
- 35:10Speaker 10: get some Juju.
- 35:12Speaker 11: It's very honest.
- 35:13Speaker 10: I think they're really kind of a lot of sorts
- 35:15Speaker 10: and hopefully, you know, he's a part to bringing him back.
- 35:17Speaker 10: And that's all I got.
- 35:18Speaker 5: Guy.
- 35:20Speaker 4: Yeah, I watched the Juju film. I am I did
- 35:22Speaker 4: like him. He came out. I don't know what I expected.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Like you just you hear about these guys. They get
- 35:26Speaker 4: this is Juju Smith Schuster. I mean, I don't know
- 35:28Speaker 4: what he's like off the field, but you just know
- 35:29Speaker 4: him as a player, and then you know, you get
- 35:31Speaker 4: to see him talking. I mean, I he seemed came
- 35:33Speaker 4: off likable, came off soft spoken. I thought he said
- 35:35Speaker 4: most of the right things. You know, we'll see how
- 35:38Speaker 4: it all translates onto the field.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that, you know. Just I was listening
- 35:42Speaker 3: to some some national podcasts and podcast because I like
- 35:49Speaker 3: to get I like to get what people's opinions are
- 35:53Speaker 3: of the Patriots that aren't here right, that aren't glueden,
- 35:56Speaker 3: that aren't as negative as Paul's shows, but also aren't
- 35:58Speaker 3: as as inside it like we are. You know, they're
- 36:01Speaker 3: so close to right. So I was listening to Robert
- 36:04Speaker 3: Mays and those guys in the athletic who I think
- 36:06Speaker 3: do a great job, and they were a lot of
- 36:08Speaker 3: them were gushing about the talent on the Patriots defense,
- 36:11Speaker 3: and I thought that I was just being kind of
- 36:14Speaker 3: a homer when I looked at the depth chart and
- 36:16Speaker 3: was like, this is kind of a pretty impressive defense.
- 36:19Speaker 3: But I really feel like on that side of the
- 36:21Speaker 3: football now, I think the biggest thing is probably Devin
- 36:24Speaker 3: mccordy and how they replace the communication and the and
- 36:27Speaker 3: the experience and that element on the back end. But
- 36:30Speaker 3: if you just look at talent, their defense on paper
- 36:33Speaker 3: is one of the better defenses in the league.
- 36:34Speaker 5: If Gonzales pans out to be what we think he's
- 36:37Speaker 5: going to be, big if because what do we know,
- 36:39Speaker 5: But if he does, then that significantly improves I think
- 36:42Speaker 5: the talent level in the secondary.
- 36:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not everybody.
- 36:45Speaker 5: You just knock everybody down a peg, but they don't
- 36:47Speaker 5: have a guy with that profile, right, So if he's
- 36:49Speaker 5: really good, I think that's a really valuable piece to
- 36:52Speaker 5: have back there.
- 36:53Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 36:53Speaker 4: Yeah, I would still hold up pass rush depth like
- 36:56Speaker 4: a post Jude on injury, Like I don't know if
- 36:58Speaker 4: they're if they're set to accommodate that. And I just
- 37:02Speaker 4: I could go either way on Kim White, like I see,
- 37:04Speaker 4: you know, everything that we've talked about with him, Like
- 37:06Speaker 4: there's and and I and I love defensive guys, like
- 37:08Speaker 4: I love a guy that, in theory, could you know,
- 37:10Speaker 4: be moved all around the defensive line and just be
- 37:12Speaker 4: a big, mean, wrecking ball. But I think to like
- 37:16Speaker 4: what we've just been saying, I don't see that like
- 37:19Speaker 4: like like with Ucha for example, like I knew Uch
- 37:21Speaker 4: was a limited guy when we drafted him, he didn't
- 37:24Speaker 4: really play early downs there. He was there, what he
- 37:26Speaker 4: was here, But when I talked to you know, his coach,
- 37:29Speaker 4: but I talked to Don Brown about him, he was like, look,
- 37:32Speaker 4: this guy can run the arc like nobody else, and
- 37:34Speaker 4: he's going to bring that skill into the NFL immediately
- 37:37Speaker 4: and challenge the outside shoulder of offensive tackles. And you know,
- 37:41Speaker 4: Kim White, I'm just searching for, like, what is that
- 37:43Speaker 4: one thing he does great? Like he seems powerful, but
- 37:45Speaker 4: it never seems, you know, in what I've seen of him,
- 37:48Speaker 4: to really blow the play up before it develops. It's
- 37:51Speaker 4: it's it's almost like the uh. It's almost like the
- 37:53Speaker 4: Nelson Aguiler thing where it's like all right, it always
- 37:56Speaker 4: happens like way late in the down, and like that's
- 37:58Speaker 4: not what we need. We need consistent early down disruption,
- 38:01Speaker 4: you know, not like all right, well, Nelson Egler caught
- 38:03Speaker 4: all these passes when I heard some breaks and somebody
- 38:05Speaker 4: launches it. And I heard someone.
- 38:06Speaker 5: Talking about White in exactly that manner earlier this week,
- 38:10Speaker 5: and that was my first thuhs, Like, and he gets
- 38:12Speaker 5: a lot of pressure, but it's like right as the
- 38:14Speaker 5: you know, the passes. So he doesn't have a lot
- 38:16Speaker 5: of sacks. I'm like, well then, yeah, like not to
- 38:18Speaker 5: what end then? Now, I would say it sounds to
- 38:22Speaker 5: me like he might be one of those guys that
- 38:24Speaker 5: we see his impact more on on third downs, passing
- 38:28Speaker 5: downs when he's on the inside. I think he might
- 38:30Speaker 5: be able to be three techniques, you know, a guy
- 38:32Speaker 5: that can collapse the pocket from the inside. Maybe not
- 38:34Speaker 5: racking up big numbers, but maybe his power is going
- 38:38Speaker 5: to be able to take advantage of those interior guys.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Yeah. I know a lot of people that thought that
- 38:42Speaker 3: his best NFL role would be a three technique on
- 38:44Speaker 3: the inside rushing over the guard instead of outside. But
- 38:48Speaker 3: they I think they see him as a five, like
- 38:49Speaker 3: a straight up over the tackle type of guy.
- 38:51Speaker 4: I definitely think that.
- 38:53Speaker 3: And I don't necessarily think that he's going to be
- 38:56Speaker 3: flashy or super productive, but I think, you know, with
- 39:00Speaker 3: everything that I've gathered about him, that he's gonna just
- 39:02Speaker 3: be solid, Like he's just going to be a solid,
- 39:05Speaker 3: rotational guy that maybe down the road becomes a starter,
- 39:08Speaker 3: but for now, he's going to be able to play
- 39:10Speaker 3: in an NFL football game right away, And I guess
- 39:13Speaker 3: there's something to be said for that, especially in the
- 39:16Speaker 3: second round. I think they've taken some chances in the
- 39:18Speaker 3: second round on the upside. You know, guys like a
- 39:21Speaker 3: Taekwon Thorton, like a Juwan Williams even that have these
- 39:24Speaker 3: physical traits with this upside, but didn't necessarily have the
- 39:29Speaker 3: floor of a player like Keon White. So I'm trying
- 39:33Speaker 3: to talk myself into it too, because it's not out
- 39:35Speaker 3: of all their picks the day three guys. At that
- 39:37Speaker 3: point of the draft, you do what you do on
- 39:39Speaker 3: Day three, right, you fill your holes and you feel
- 39:42Speaker 3: your schematic fits and your culture guys and like whatever.
- 39:46Speaker 3: But on the top one hundred, I feel like that's
- 39:49Speaker 3: more where you can kind of look at and see
- 39:51Speaker 3: what they really did. And he's the one guy out
- 39:54Speaker 3: of the three in the top one hundred that I'm
- 39:56Speaker 3: still I got to see it in training camp and
- 39:59Speaker 3: early on in this season for me to be a
- 40:01Speaker 3: big time believer. But I do think that he'll be
- 40:03Speaker 3: able to play a role on defense in some capacity.
- 40:06Speaker 5: He could be ready to replace Dietrich Wise too. You know,
- 40:08Speaker 5: I mean he's not getting any younger.
- 40:10Speaker 4: He's Alex's age, right, I know, the six year breakout.
- 40:13Speaker 7: He just had a baby though, so maybe his dad's strength.
- 40:15Speaker 4: Now, Oh that's what I asked. I love teach I
- 40:19Speaker 4: lost all my strength when I had Oh you lose
- 40:22Speaker 4: that strength when happen? Yes, what is dad strength? Yeah?
- 40:27Speaker 4: I I But there's also part of me with White
- 40:30Speaker 4: that's just like holding out hope that like he's going
- 40:32Speaker 4: to get here and the injury is going to finally
- 40:35Speaker 4: be behind him and it's all going to kind of
- 40:38Speaker 4: click for him, and I want to feel like I
- 40:40Speaker 4: felt with bar Moore in twenty twenty one's camp, where
- 40:42Speaker 4: it's like every one on one you saw the guy go,
- 40:45Speaker 4: it's it's it's a handful, you know. I just I
- 40:48Speaker 4: just want to see him be a handful early on
- 40:49Speaker 4: in training camp. It's so hard to judge those guys,
- 40:51Speaker 4: you know, especially early on in camp when they're not
- 40:53Speaker 4: even in pads yet, and then even when they get
- 40:55Speaker 4: in pads, you get a handful of you know, one
- 40:57Speaker 4: on ones from across the field that you're trying to
- 40:58Speaker 4: trying to figure out. So I'm still holding out home by.
- 41:01Speaker 3: I'm not saying on most of these guys. Right like,
- 41:05Speaker 3: after selling, I can talk myself into everybody, like I
- 41:08Speaker 3: have Marty Maps, I'm trying to do that with Mapu
- 41:11Speaker 3: is just Matt mallotap to me in my head already
- 41:13Speaker 3: right Like I've already totally sold myself on that one.
- 41:15Speaker 5: Haven't put that in my head on Saturday, and I've
- 41:17Speaker 5: been trying to get there.
- 41:19Speaker 3: But but I got to see it on the field
- 41:23Speaker 3: in the summer, like with pads On that's obviously. So
- 41:27Speaker 3: we're a long way away from that. So we'll see.
- 41:28Speaker 4: We're gonna like a couple of weeks with MIDI camp.
- 41:31Speaker 4: Like he looks big, you know, like.
- 41:33Speaker 3: But it's like, you know, Sam Roberts looks big, I know,
- 41:36Speaker 3: like Sam Roberts looks like an NFL player walking off
- 41:38Speaker 3: the bus, but he he adds occasional flash in camp
- 41:43Speaker 3: as a rookie, but we really need to see it
- 41:46Speaker 3: from kee round.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Yeah, he's like the seventh round version of White And
- 41:49Speaker 4: I thought too when they selected him. He was one
- 41:51Speaker 4: of the guys that I talked to. I mean, he's
- 41:52Speaker 4: a D two player I think with you know, but
- 41:54Speaker 4: but same kind of thing, like one of those just
- 41:56Speaker 4: those big, powerful guys that don't really have an exact
- 41:59Speaker 4: position maybe for some NFL teams but you know here
- 42:02Speaker 4: they're they're useful because they can move around. Uh all right,
- 42:05Speaker 4: let's jump back to the phones and we got let's
- 42:07Speaker 4: see always, let's see always doing will and film. Hey, wellam,
- 42:09Speaker 4: how are you doing?
- 42:10Speaker 12: Man' I'm okay, Uh not as good as yesterday, but
- 42:15Speaker 12: I'm okay.
- 42:15Speaker 11: All right the day though?
- 42:17Speaker 4: All right, that's I'm well.
- 42:19Speaker 12: How are everybody doing on the PANEA? Everybody goody good?
- 42:22Speaker 12: So okay, all right, I'm a school I'm alex from
- 42:26Speaker 12: this one. But this is for the for the fellas, Okay,
- 42:29Speaker 12: it so is this is this is all we're going
- 42:34Speaker 12: with far as the on the offensive side night. So
- 42:37Speaker 12: you're just because basically all they did in terms of
- 42:40Speaker 12: the receiving part is you just swapped out players.
- 42:42Speaker 13: That's all you did.
- 42:43Speaker 12: You didn't really add anything. Well and to a lot
- 42:45Speaker 12: of lottery fix the six round picks that you might,
- 42:48Speaker 12: I guess you are hoping they tend out. So is
- 42:51Speaker 12: that all we're going is that's all that's gonna be
- 42:53Speaker 12: added to help mac Jim.
- 42:55Speaker 5: Yes, because you didn't get attack ration yep. Yeah, I
- 42:59Speaker 5: mean there's was a chance that you could make a trade.
- 43:02Speaker 5: But yeah, I would say that what you see is
- 43:04Speaker 5: what you get. Offensively, they like their tackles better than
- 43:07Speaker 5: everybody else. Whether we agree with that or not, we listen, William.
- 43:13Speaker 5: I'll be the first one to tell you. I got
- 43:14Speaker 5: some humble pie on Tuesday from Paul over there about
- 43:17Speaker 5: being knowing knowing more than Bill Belichick. Oh yeah, so
- 43:20Speaker 5: I'll tell you they might know more than us about
- 43:23Speaker 5: the tackles, all right, So we got to give them
- 43:25Speaker 5: a chance to play the tackles.
- 43:27Speaker 3: I hear you on the receivers, I really do. But
- 43:29Speaker 3: I think the one interesting thing that you know, when
- 43:32Speaker 3: I had some conversations the other day that someone said
- 43:35Speaker 3: to me is that, you know, Bill Walsh was a
- 43:37Speaker 3: big believer that that number one receiver, he was the
- 43:40Speaker 3: final piece to the puzzle. Right, It wasn't. You didn't
- 43:43Speaker 3: just throw the number one receiver, you know, the Jerry
- 43:45Speaker 3: Rice to his you know, for Bill Walsh's you know mind,
- 43:49Speaker 3: you don't just throw that guy in when you're still
- 43:51Speaker 3: rebuilding the rest of the roster. You know, when the
- 43:53Speaker 3: Bills were ready to take that next step, that's when
- 43:55Speaker 3: they made that Stefan Digg's tray. When the Eagles are
- 43:58Speaker 3: ready to take that next step. That's when they made
- 44:00Speaker 3: the aj Brown trade. And as much as I want
- 44:02Speaker 3: the Patriots to make that trade too, I do wonder
- 44:05Speaker 3: if they felt like they were still a year away
- 44:08Speaker 3: from that guy really doing the service that we all
- 44:11Speaker 3: want him to do, of moving that needle from you know, uh,
- 44:14Speaker 3: one one direction to another. So I totally hear you
- 44:17Speaker 3: on the receivers. I think we're all in the same
- 44:19Speaker 3: boat on that. But maybe maybe that move comes next offseason.
- 44:24Speaker 3: Is as much as we want to see it right away.
- 44:26Speaker 12: Okay, So let me let me ask you this, Evan,
- 44:28Speaker 12: But I have I have another take after this one day. Okay,
- 44:31Speaker 12: So all right, So Tom Tom Brady's been going since
- 44:35Speaker 12: what twenty nineteen? Correct, So we already hit in twenty
- 44:39Speaker 12: twenty three. Now, so how long does it take to
- 44:41Speaker 12: build because already build messed up one season already for unfortunately,
- 44:46Speaker 12: you know what I'm saying. So, how long does it
- 44:47Speaker 12: take to build a team to get them to be
- 44:50Speaker 12: back in a competitive mode or championship mode or whatever?
- 44:54Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, depends on yes, how long do you need?
- 44:58Speaker 12: You know what I mean? You know what I'm saying.
- 44:59Speaker 5: Well, I think that the answer for that is different
- 45:02Speaker 5: you know, like does it work and does the quarterback work?
- 45:05Speaker 5: And I mean I've seen teams turning around in one year.
- 45:07Speaker 5: I've seen teams spin their wheels for a decade, right,
- 45:11Speaker 5: Like I mean, let's hope that the Patriots aren't in
- 45:12Speaker 5: that situation.
- 45:13Speaker 4: Yeah, yep, what I mean.
- 45:14Speaker 12: But go ahead, Okay, so you're saying, you're saying you
- 45:18Speaker 12: see other teams do there?
- 45:20Speaker 13: Okay?
- 45:20Speaker 5: So well, like like the Jets for example, you know
- 45:25Speaker 5: the last time they made the playoffs was what.
- 45:27Speaker 3: Twenty Mark Sanchez?
- 45:28Speaker 5: Yeah right, I mean, so you know, then you look
- 45:31Speaker 5: at some other teams that you know that they were good,
- 45:35Speaker 5: you know, like Kansas City, you know they were good.
- 45:38Speaker 5: They were playoff team with Alex Smith, they sort of
- 45:40Speaker 5: recalibrated and immediately jumped to another level with Patrick Mahomes, Like,
- 45:45Speaker 5: there's no blueprint. Answer, Well, it takes three years to
- 45:49Speaker 5: rebuild properly. No, Like it depends on how you hit
- 45:54Speaker 5: on your picks and your players. And I'm sorry to
- 45:57Speaker 5: break it down to just one thing, but you're quarterback. Yeah,
- 46:01Speaker 5: like that matters.
- 46:02Speaker 4: Well, I would, and I would break it down a
- 46:03Speaker 4: different way though, I would. I would say, how long
- 46:06Speaker 4: does the ownership and fan base have patience for you
- 46:10Speaker 4: know that. And and just real quick before I let
- 46:13Speaker 4: you make your point, William, I just I went back
- 46:15Speaker 4: and I just looked at all the three other AFC
- 46:17Speaker 4: East teams over the last twenty years, and you know
- 46:19Speaker 4: what was it like for them? What was the average
- 46:21Speaker 4: that that they were willing to go with a coach
- 46:24Speaker 4: quarterback kind of combination, And usually it was three or
- 46:26Speaker 4: four years, Like if you made the playoffs or had
- 46:28Speaker 4: a pretty good season, you might get that fourth year,
- 46:30Speaker 4: but usually it's three years at least as far as those.
- 46:32Speaker 5: Are the problem for that, you can't really compare the
- 46:35Speaker 5: Patriots situation to anybody else because no one else has
- 46:38Speaker 5: a coach that's been doing it for twenty three years,
- 46:40Speaker 5: not twenty five. R Like he's telling you, yeah, it's
- 46:43Speaker 5: tough to fire and fire Bill.
- 46:45Speaker 4: Bellot and won six titles, so he's that that counts
- 46:48Speaker 4: for something. But I think that's get more time, right,
- 46:50Speaker 4: But but what is it? And I think I about
- 46:52Speaker 4: some questions here on the email too of you know,
- 46:54Speaker 4: what is what is reasonable? You know, I don't think
- 46:56Speaker 4: anybody was ready to fire Bill and twenty I mean,
- 46:58Speaker 4: certainly some people were, you know, but but it's just
- 47:02Speaker 4: what as soon as he left where he's out, I
- 47:06Speaker 4: left you off.
- 47:08Speaker 12: At this point, he said, I don't care what you're doing.
- 47:11Speaker 14: Man.
- 47:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I hear you.
- 47:12Speaker 4: I hear you.
- 47:13Speaker 5: That's a that's a fair way of looking at it.
- 47:15Speaker 4: Yeah, well, thanks will I appreciate it.
- 47:17Speaker 5: I wont to know why he was so happy yesterday?
- 47:19Speaker 4: What was so good that happened yesterday? I was like,
- 47:21Speaker 4: not as good as yesterday? He said, yeah, I don't know.
- 47:23Speaker 4: It wasn't even a show day. I hope good could
- 47:25Speaker 4: have been. I got some emails to somebody, some strains
- 47:29Speaker 4: from me. Again. Well no, I well maybe I should
- 47:32Speaker 4: read this one right now, just real quick, because Andy
- 47:35Speaker 4: wrote in about Willem and you know, well it's a
- 47:37Speaker 4: little listener on listener debate here. I like so Andy,
- 47:41Speaker 4: and Cleveland wrote in, uh, hopefully Willim tuned back in.
- 47:44Speaker 4: He said, what in the world is going on with Willim?
- 47:46Speaker 4: And he calls him Willem and Philim Willhem and film's
- 47:49Speaker 4: audio guy sounds like he's calling from inside of a
- 47:52Speaker 4: water tower on speaker.
- 47:53Speaker 5: If he's down, William is down. He's always That's why
- 47:56Speaker 5: he sounds like that.
- 47:57Speaker 4: Well, he said, I appreciate the can be regular callers
- 48:00Speaker 4: and contribute to the show, but can we take up
- 48:02Speaker 4: a collection to get him some decent headphones with a mic? So, uh,
- 48:06Speaker 4: headphones with a mic? He's calling it?
- 48:07Speaker 3: Yeah, what do you want us to get him?
- 48:09Speaker 5: At a little blue yetti micy marine corps, get on that.
- 48:13Speaker 5: I want all of our regular calls a.
- 48:17Speaker 3: Microphone. Send him one of those those briefcases that you
- 48:21Speaker 3: give me when I go on the on the road.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Or it's way too big.
- 48:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I gotta check this. Yeah, it's very it's heavy,
- 48:27Speaker 3: and I'm weak.
- 48:28Speaker 5: I know, Evan, and hours have to go if not,
- 48:31Speaker 5: you know, so make sure you guys, I don't want
- 48:34Speaker 5: to hold I mean, we're riding with the PP and
- 48:36Speaker 5: the Duce, but I think we can have better nicknames
- 48:39Speaker 5: than that. A PP of the all of the focusroops
- 48:43Speaker 5: love it, Evan. I mean, you know it's no Catch twenty.
- 48:46Speaker 4: Two, which coming up at two o'clock stay tuned.
- 48:50Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely, So why don't we reset, take a little
- 48:55Speaker 5: bit of a break and let them.
- 48:56Speaker 4: So, I'm gonna grab the I'm just gonna grab one
- 48:58Speaker 4: call here before we break, because Dominic's been holding on
- 49:00Speaker 4: for a moment and I just want to grab them. Hey, Dominique,
- 49:02Speaker 4: what's going on?
- 49:04Speaker 12: Hey, what's up? Hopefully what Mike is good?
- 49:06Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 49:06Speaker 4: Perfect? Yeah?
- 49:07Speaker 15: You go.
- 49:10Speaker 4: In college?
- 49:10Speaker 12: Yeah, well come on.
- 49:12Speaker 3: But yeah.
- 49:13Speaker 12: So I just thoughts on everything with the drafting going on,
- 49:17Speaker 12: and more of a discussion for y'all is I'm looking
- 49:19Speaker 12: back at the twenty twenty three draft and I'm thinking,
- 49:22Speaker 12: you know, I know, there's been a lot of talk
- 49:24Speaker 12: about folks wanting, you know, wide receiver on that end,
- 49:26Speaker 12: but thinking about even with Christian Gonzalez, there was a
- 49:29Speaker 12: whole worry about Johnson Jones if he leaves, who the
- 49:31Speaker 12: heck is going to be a number one corner where
- 49:33Speaker 12: we tell that position? That was my worry, even the
- 49:35Speaker 12: same with Devin mccordy. So with the first three takes,
- 49:38Speaker 12: I've been very happy with that, addressing with a lot
- 49:39Speaker 12: of needs or potential needs that will have in the
- 49:41Speaker 12: next couple of years or so, and even going back
- 49:43Speaker 12: to the wide receiver thing, it's kind of like, you know,
- 49:46Speaker 12: I know folks are mad and upset, but I look
- 49:48Speaker 12: at it like this. We had that weird year with Brady.
- 49:50Speaker 12: After Brady, with cam Okay, didn't do so well. We
- 49:54Speaker 12: had a rookie Mack Jones, went to the playoffs, and
- 49:56Speaker 12: we had a good offensive coordinator, right phone year want
- 49:59Speaker 12: to do a whole whatever with the offensive shifting between
- 50:01Speaker 12: you know, Patricia Judge would have me bad. I kind
- 50:05Speaker 12: of want to see before we dive and see like
- 50:07Speaker 12: the concerns of austense, even though they are legit concerns
- 50:09Speaker 12: in the offense, the ability with Bill O'Brien. You have
- 50:12Speaker 12: another player in Jujusvin Sister that I think is talented
- 50:16Speaker 12: and can produce at a decent level given a chance.
- 50:18Speaker 12: Schemes well and we sell type one third and who
- 50:20Speaker 12: we don't really know what he can't do, but he's
- 50:23Speaker 12: still I believe, in my opinion, has a high seiling.
- 50:25Speaker 12: So with that being said, I'm okay with the fact
- 50:27Speaker 12: that we haven't gone like so high per receiver, especially
- 50:30Speaker 12: for getting someone like Kyshambodie, who if he pans out,
- 50:33Speaker 12: could be excellent, or you know, the Mario Douglas who
- 50:36Speaker 12: you know that coaching staff knows better than you know
- 50:38Speaker 12: probably interview us to in terms of his speed, his
- 50:40Speaker 12: athletic profile and whatnot. So I'm wonder if you're feeling
- 50:43Speaker 12: the same way, Like, I'm more concerned about the ability.
- 50:45Speaker 12: I want to see what Mack can do with what
- 50:47Speaker 12: he has if you believe another receiver is the thing
- 50:50Speaker 12: that makes him jump to that at leite, you know,
- 50:52Speaker 12: top fifteen whatever ten quarterback level, sir. But that's the
- 50:56Speaker 12: least how I'm feeling. That's kind of what I want
- 50:57Speaker 12: to gauge first, and that's going through training cramp, the
- 51:00Speaker 12: early parts of the season and so on and so forth.
- 51:02Speaker 4: Yeah, I think.
- 51:03Speaker 7: You make a pretty good point because I think if
- 51:04Speaker 7: you look at us this time last year, we're looking
- 51:07Speaker 7: at this receiving core. On paper, it looks a lot
- 51:10Speaker 7: the same as this year. You don't have Nelson Aguilar,
- 51:12Speaker 7: But like our narratives last year is we're way more
- 51:14Speaker 7: worried about the defense on this show.
- 51:16Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 51:16Speaker 7: I was, And this was before all the coordinator drama.
- 51:20Speaker 3: Paul Paul's always read.
- 51:24Speaker 5: Specific position, so I was I always have fair enough.
- 51:28Speaker 7: But it was just a totally different conversation we were
- 51:31Speaker 7: having before training camp and then the coordinator stuff played out.
- 51:34Speaker 7: It was so dysfunctional and it's like, oh my god,
- 51:37Speaker 7: how could we even have had these opinions?
- 51:39Speaker 3: Yeah, right, I'm more worried about honestly at this point,
- 51:42Speaker 3: Like I hear all the look I'm not the one
- 51:44Speaker 3: to say I don't believe in receivers all of a sudden, right,
- 51:47Speaker 3: Like I hear all that, But I'm more worried about
- 51:49Speaker 3: the tackles, to be honest with you, because me too,
- 51:52Speaker 3: I look at mac Jones, and I know even last
- 51:55Speaker 3: year when it was as dysfunctional and horrible as it
- 51:58Speaker 3: was on offense, from clean pockets, he graded out extremely well,
- 52:02Speaker 3: like high passer ratings, high PFF grades. If you're into that,
- 52:07Speaker 3: it's always with him, it's always under pressure. Like he's
- 52:09Speaker 3: not a mobile guy, he's not an elusive guy, and
- 52:12Speaker 3: he doesn't throw the ball well while under pressure. So
- 52:15Speaker 3: if you can keep him clean, he can make all
- 52:17Speaker 3: the throws and he can run your offense and do
- 52:19Speaker 3: all those types of things. But if you can't, and
- 52:22Speaker 3: I think they're banking on a lot of coaching like
- 52:24Speaker 3: Adrian Klem and the just sophistication of the entire system
- 52:29Speaker 3: up front being cleaner because the talent I'm not necessarily
- 52:33Speaker 3: sure is significantly better on the line, right.
- 52:36Speaker 5: Yeah, My biggest fear, the reason I agree with the
- 52:40Speaker 5: tackle is.
- 52:41Speaker 16: Yeah.
- 52:42Speaker 5: Do I think they could use an upgrade of talent
- 52:44Speaker 5: in the pass catches, I absolutely do, But I think
- 52:47Speaker 5: in this particular draft class it wasn't really conducive to
- 52:51Speaker 5: devoting a lot of resources to it. Now, I think
- 52:55Speaker 5: they could have gone earlier. And you guys talked about
- 52:57Speaker 5: this a lot on Saturday. There were guys that were
- 53:00Speaker 5: worth developing Charlie Jones's and you know, Josh Downs's of
- 53:04Speaker 5: the world that they passed on. Okay, fine, I don't
- 53:07Speaker 5: think any of those guys was going to step in,
- 53:09Speaker 5: you know, in twenty twenty three if the number or significant.
- 53:12Speaker 5: You know, addition, I think what they have as pass
- 53:15Speaker 5: catchers is good enough. And I'm kind of echoing Dominique's
- 53:20Speaker 5: feel like, Okay, so let's see how it looks with
- 53:25Speaker 5: a real offensive coordinator, and Evan brings up a good point,
- 53:28Speaker 5: a real offensive line coach.
- 53:30Speaker 4: Yeah, to see if you can well that that was going.
- 53:32Speaker 5: To look more like you did as a rookie before
- 53:34Speaker 5: you guys go.
- 53:35Speaker 4: That was just the one point I was going to
- 53:36Speaker 4: bring out because I remember you talking about talking to
- 53:38Speaker 4: the offensive lineman and them saying that they didn't have
- 53:40Speaker 4: the ability to make the same calls, and they did so.
- 53:42Speaker 4: I just I wonder if maybe some part of that
- 53:44Speaker 4: struggle with Mac was baked into just not having the
- 53:47Speaker 4: answers all the time that he needed to have. Maybe
- 53:50Speaker 4: they're and.
- 53:50Speaker 3: That's his strength as a player, is to be able
- 53:53Speaker 3: to get to the line of scrimmage, survey what the
- 53:55Speaker 3: defense is showing you pre snap, and get everybody pointed
- 53:58Speaker 3: in the right direction, make some checks, make some changes
- 54:00Speaker 3: to the protection like those are the things that That's
- 54:03Speaker 3: what drew them to him to an extent, was between
- 54:07Speaker 3: the ears, what he was capable of doing at the
- 54:09Speaker 3: line of scrimmage as a field general, and last year
- 54:12Speaker 3: they just kind of stripped all of that away from him.
- 54:15Speaker 3: So if they can get back to playing to his strengths,
- 54:18Speaker 3: not only as a passer, but also just the cerebralness
- 54:21Speaker 3: of his ability to read the field, I think that
- 54:24Speaker 3: they're going to be better upfront. But I do worry
- 54:27Speaker 3: still about the one on one match. At the end
- 54:28Speaker 3: of the day, it's still my guy against your guy
- 54:31Speaker 3: to an extent in football always so at the end
- 54:34Speaker 3: of the day, is Riley Reef can hold up at
- 54:36Speaker 3: right tackle When they got Von Miller coming off one
- 54:38Speaker 3: side and Greg Russo coming off the other side against
- 54:41Speaker 3: Buffalo or whatever the matchup is. Are they going to
- 54:44Speaker 3: be able to hold up against Bradley Chubb and Jalen
- 54:47Speaker 3: Phillips when they play Miami. I don't know. Those are
- 54:50Speaker 3: the big concerns that I have.
- 54:51Speaker 4: All Right, Evan announce' going to take off. Go here
- 54:53Speaker 4: from Mike Kasiki and Mike Rabe. A lot of Mike's
- 54:55Speaker 4: today and you got one here hosting and Mike, Mike
- 54:57Speaker 4: salt So, me and Paul are going to ta a
- 55:00Speaker 4: little bit of a break. Nobody's foods here. We're not
- 55:01Speaker 4: even eating today, folks. We're just gonna sit it out
- 55:03Speaker 4: for a little bit, so we'll be back in a minute.

- 1:01:10Speaker 12: History.
- 1:01:11Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't like about these sports shows now, the
- 1:01:14Speaker 6: standing up on the set and like, you know, awkwardly
- 1:01:17Speaker 6: not knowing what to do with your hands and stuff.
- 1:01:19Speaker 9: Why do they all do this now? They all like,
- 1:01:21Speaker 9: just stand down.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: Patriots unfiltered.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: No, you guys sit in the couch. We stand for
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: the rest of it.
- 1:01:26Speaker 9: Though, I do.
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: That's that's news nowadays, the regular local news they have
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: they stand up.
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: It's I like Wendy, Yeah, who Wendy next?
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: Cobra, Well, I like her all right, Sorry, she's.
- 1:01:41Speaker 9: Been around since dirt.
- 1:01:43Speaker 5: She's old.
- 1:01:44Speaker 4: Ye, that's not fairy. Thanks.
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: I will take Kansas City and I will take the
- 1:01:48Speaker 5: points with Oakland.
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: She's Monday night football, right, Yeah, yeah, I like her.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: Yeah, she's been around a long time.
- 1:01:55Speaker 9: I'm gonna do you have to rehe emphasize it.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: How many times you're going to say how old she is?
- 1:01:59Speaker 9: She's old? That's another great moment.
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: All right, we're back at it. And yeah, that was the
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: voice of Megan o'brown. Great, the great Megan. I'm gonna
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: share a little bit of news. I hope it's okay
- 1:02:12Speaker 4: about mob, but she is going to be throwing out
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: the first pitch at a Chicago White Sox game for real,
- 1:02:18Speaker 4: and I gotta say too, we got Matis. I think
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: it's in July. Okay, out in July, so I think
- 1:02:23Speaker 4: everybody probably knows what a huge fan of the White
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: Sox she was. Maglio or dan Ardonia. I told her,
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: I'm like, you gotta wear a Maglio jersey. So she's
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: very excited, and I hope she throws a strike though,
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: I mean that's she's pretty athletic. I think I think
- 1:02:36Speaker 4: she'll throw right down the middle.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: My favorite.
- 1:02:39Speaker 5: Did you happen to see the woman who plays college
- 1:02:42Speaker 5: baseball for Brown, the first woman, right, first woman to
- 1:02:46Speaker 5: play Division one college baseball, And she threw out the
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: first pitch of the Red Sox game, and she threw
- 1:02:51Speaker 5: it as hard as she could, which I was kind
- 1:02:53Speaker 5: of expecting, but it was yeah, it.
- 1:02:55Speaker 9: Was like, wasn't as beast fifty cents though?
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: Oh no, oh.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: No, but she's an actual Bay spat player. I would
- 1:03:00Speaker 5: have got to I mean, I was expecting more excited.
- 1:03:03Speaker 4: Well, you should have give us some tips for throwing
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: out pitches at some way, right, if you've done that, right.
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: I've thrown actual pitches, not ceremonial.
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: Once they're not ceremonial.
- 1:03:12Speaker 5: They didn't have to choose me out of a lottery
- 1:03:14Speaker 5: to do it.
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean home. No, that wasn't no lung. That
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: was in New Britain, New Britain.
- 1:03:22Speaker 9: I like that.
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: Let's jump over to the phone though, real quick, because
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: Brian from Western mass has been holding on through our break. So,
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: hey Brian, thanks for holding on. Now what's going on?
- 1:03:32Speaker 24: Hey you guys, hope you're doing well?
- 1:03:33Speaker 4: Thank you.
- 1:03:35Speaker 24: So the one thing, uh I'll find an issue with
- 1:03:39Speaker 24: is that people are complaining about not drafting a wide
- 1:03:42Speaker 24: receiver early in the draft.
- 1:03:44Speaker 15: Uh.
- 1:03:45Speaker 24: I think personally there was no superstar wide receiver jumping
- 1:03:49Speaker 24: out at us. Second of all, I don't find you know,
- 1:03:54Speaker 24: this team needs another rookie that's just going to learn
- 1:03:57Speaker 24: the offense. Yeah, and I mean, if anything, this offense
- 1:04:01Speaker 24: needs a veteran proved wide receiver. Obviously like a Copkins
- 1:04:06Speaker 24: and probably Judy are not able to be tradable, but
- 1:04:08Speaker 24: that's the kind of receiver that team needs. Not enough,
- 1:04:11Speaker 24: you know, Josh Booty are booties. I forget us first name.
- 1:04:15Speaker 4: I'm sorry the great.
- 1:04:17Speaker 24: Honestly, I just don't see needing a draft pick early
- 1:04:22Speaker 24: in the draft for wide receiver.
- 1:04:24Speaker 4: Yeah, well, thanks for the call, and I mean it's
- 1:04:26Speaker 4: you know, it's something we kind of talked about when
- 1:04:28Speaker 4: we got into Day two, which was just was there
- 1:04:30Speaker 4: that guy? I mean, if they gotten Flowers, it's all
- 1:04:32Speaker 4: about that. Like to me, if name on the claim.
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: If it was a regular draft class, I think this
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: wide receiver class had a bunch of secondary guys at
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: the top of it. Now, I think there were a
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: lot of good receivers. I don't think there were any
- 1:04:47Speaker 5: great ones. And if there was, the way it's been
- 1:04:50Speaker 5: like in recent years, I would have been much more
- 1:04:53Speaker 5: open to using wide receiver at fourteen. Now, I just
- 1:04:59Speaker 5: I don't think.
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: I don't. I don't think Smith.
- 1:05:02Speaker 5: And Jigba or Zay Flowers was worthy of that. Some
- 1:05:05Speaker 5: people do, and that's fine because they haven't played it
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: down yet. We'll see who ends up being right. But
- 1:05:13Speaker 5: I don't kill them for that.
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: No, And Tise, you love you love Gonzalez as much
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: as everybody, and it's like, I mean, I look at
- 1:05:19Speaker 4: it the same way. It's just the opposite side of
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: the ball. Like you say, they're missing that number one
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: threat on the offense. Well, I'd say they're missing that
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: number one cover guy on the defense. And that's what
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: you had the opportunity to get now. And to our
- 1:05:30Speaker 4: our our previous caller who said, it's you know, that
- 1:05:33Speaker 4: last piece that you put in, I mean, I don't
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: know about that. I'm hoping one of these two guys emerged,
- 1:05:37Speaker 4: like one of these two six rounders comes out and
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: you know, maybe just chips in with it. It doesn't
- 1:05:41Speaker 4: have to be a lot. It could be like Jacoby Myers,
- 1:05:43Speaker 4: but it's hard to it's hard to wish because you
- 1:05:45Speaker 4: love Gonzalez right.
- 1:05:46Speaker 9: Or due for a late round guy to blow up.
- 1:05:48Speaker 9: I don't think that's happened here for a while. But
- 1:05:50Speaker 9: I mean last year, I mean you just I think,
- 1:05:52Speaker 9: Hi tis twenty twenty, but you had to pick last year,
- 1:05:55Speaker 9: you could have got one of those guys. I don't
- 1:05:56Speaker 9: think any of the receivers this year were that much better.
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: No, I mean justin Jefferson go like twenty you know
- 1:06:01Speaker 4: and whatever it was twenty nineteen, twenty twenty. So I mean,
- 1:06:03Speaker 4: you know that's the drafts.
- 1:06:05Speaker 9: You're talking about Paul where it's well, just.
- 1:06:06Speaker 4: In Sarah Wilson, there's five of them that you're like,
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: I'd be pretty happy with any of them.
- 1:06:12Speaker 5: I would have taken one of those guys at fourteen
- 1:06:15Speaker 5: if they were available, you know, from last year now,
- 1:06:18Speaker 5: I just don't think it was the same caliber of class.
- 1:06:21Speaker 4: I think that's the draft reality to punching you in
- 1:06:23Speaker 4: the face is like, I mean, every single person except
- 1:06:26Speaker 4: for Paul Credit where credit is due had Josh Downs
- 1:06:29Speaker 4: is the number one guy on the second tier. So
- 1:06:31Speaker 4: once those receivers went in the first round.
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: And I didn't hate him or anything, I just wasn't
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: as high on it.
- 1:06:36Speaker 4: But you weren't, so you weren't looking at him as like.
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: Yeah you did, like Marvin, I think I remember that
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: from the broadcast.
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: So there were those guys, you know, kicking around. But
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: you know, at the same time, when I think, when
- 1:06:45Speaker 4: you break it down, what intrigued me about Downs was
- 1:06:49Speaker 4: what would kind of intrigue me if Booty or Douglas
- 1:06:52Speaker 4: were to hit you know, that's the kind of player
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: I wanted, So doing it with a six round pick
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: and there's not really the pressure. I like how they
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: balanced those two.
- 1:07:00Speaker 9: What's interesting to me is that the guys who went
- 1:07:02Speaker 9: late in the first round, Quentin Johnson Addison, that might
- 1:07:06Speaker 9: be scary because you got Justin Jefferson and then you
- 1:07:09Speaker 9: got Mike Williams and Keenan Allen in la like that
- 1:07:12Speaker 9: gives them some veterans tomm under and that's just going
- 1:07:14Speaker 9: to free them up so they might have big seasons.
- 1:07:16Speaker 4: It's it's nice to have that lucky.
- 1:07:18Speaker 9: Yeah. I just don't think you got that here.
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: No, no you don't.
- 1:07:22Speaker 5: And I do think that's a good point because you
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: you attached a little like context and nuance to it.
- 1:07:28Speaker 5: You know, I think a lot of people immediately look
- 1:07:30Speaker 5: and I'm not telling you that it's an easy thing
- 1:07:32Speaker 5: to do or that it's correct, but a lot of
- 1:07:34Speaker 5: people look and they say, well, Justin Jefferson, you could
- 1:07:37Speaker 5: have had Justin Jefferson, and if you've done maybe, if
- 1:07:39Speaker 5: you've moved up, you could have gotten Jefferson that, yeah,
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: they could have. And I think he's a great player.
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: I think you'd be great anywhere, but maybe he wouldn't
- 1:07:47Speaker 5: be great here, you know. And you know that's one
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: that's one I don't agree with obviously, because I think
- 1:07:52Speaker 5: Justin Jefferson is one of at worst one of the
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: three best receivers in football. I think guys like that
- 1:07:57Speaker 5: are great any anywhere they go. Yeah, but sometimes you know,
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: so Quentin Johnston, maybe he works because of what you said, tease.
- 1:08:06Speaker 5: Maybe with with Herbert Layton downs you like to talk about,
- 1:08:09Speaker 5: with Agalore and two other receivers that are pretty good,
- 1:08:12Speaker 5: it's not going to be asked to go in there
- 1:08:14Speaker 5: and catch ninety balls. He could have a really good
- 1:08:16Speaker 5: rookie year and catch like forty, right, you know, but
- 1:08:20Speaker 5: maybe with the Patriots he wouldn't be afforded that same
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: kind of luxury.
- 1:08:23Speaker 4: And to that point, I wonder what's going to be available,
- 1:08:26Speaker 4: you know, if one of those six round guys do
- 1:08:28Speaker 4: get a chance, you know, because I do think that
- 1:08:29Speaker 4: their their skill sets are a little bit unique. And
- 1:08:32Speaker 4: you know, maybe with Thornton speed, with Parker going down
- 1:08:35Speaker 4: the field as a contested catch kind of guy like,
- 1:08:37Speaker 4: you know, maybe that helps open up opportunities for some
- 1:08:41Speaker 4: of these guys underneath. You know, we have to see
- 1:08:44Speaker 4: I just again, it's there's so many like what if
- 1:08:46Speaker 4: Bill O'Brien works out, what if Taekwon Thornton makes a leap.
- 1:08:49Speaker 4: What if Riley Reef has you know, can squeeze another
- 1:08:52Speaker 4: solid year, you know, out of whatever how many years
- 1:08:54Speaker 4: he's been playing. You know, it's all those what ifs
- 1:08:56Speaker 4: we're playing and generally the more they're going to thread
- 1:08:58Speaker 4: the needle.
- 1:08:59Speaker 5: Generally, if you have the worst, the record will be wrong,
- 1:09:04Speaker 5: you know, like a lot of people talk about that
- 1:09:05Speaker 5: with the Red Sox on the Red Socks are one
- 1:09:07Speaker 5: five in a row?
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 1:09:08Speaker 15: He?
- 1:09:08Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: Uh?
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: Eldrid calling in, see what he's got to say? Hey, Eldred,
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: how are you.
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: There?
- 1:09:15Speaker 9: It is?
- 1:09:16Speaker 24: Hey fellows, tell y'all doing lady good?
- 1:09:18Speaker 4: No lady yet? No, no lady right now? But maybe soon.
- 1:09:21Speaker 11: I thought you were already.
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: I thought she was se Evan and Alex had to
- 1:09:25Speaker 5: go and to uh work, talk to Mike.
- 1:09:28Speaker 4: Sicky about football, and we get this.
- 1:09:31Speaker 11: I'm gonna get to it. We'll get to it.
- 1:09:33Speaker 13: Paul.
- 1:09:34Speaker 11: I loved that fight with you and Fred Tuesday.
- 1:09:38Speaker 4: And I agree with.
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: Cold Strange.
- 1:09:43Speaker 4: Oh oh was he a bus? Yeah? That yeah, it's
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: a bus.
- 1:09:47Speaker 11: And I think he's gonna be one reckless regular season
- 1:09:49Speaker 11: throughout two you know. But I also agree with you
- 1:09:52Speaker 11: with debt.
- 1:09:53Speaker 15: But uh, the other.
- 1:09:54Speaker 11: Caller you had a chance to get and what you
- 1:09:58Speaker 11: call last year, but he didn't get it, so you
- 1:10:00Speaker 11: had one, you know, Oh they got from Olga.
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: State And I'm not gonna lie.
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: I worry a little bit about that with the tight
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: ends this year because it seems to me, the better
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: a class is in terms of talent, the more at
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: the Patriots are to sit that draft out and wait
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: for the next one.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: They've been doing it with wide receivers for like five years,
- 1:10:19Speaker 4: like a year off.
- 1:10:20Speaker 11: Yeah, but they picking wrong one for the last five years. Yeah,
- 1:10:23Speaker 11: that's the problem. He's picking the wrong one and Clifton
- 1:10:25Speaker 11: Johnson's gonna be a monster. You're wait and see. But
- 1:10:29Speaker 11: one more things about the defense Verythale, I thue you
- 1:10:33Speaker 11: about White. I don't really like him that much, but
- 1:10:36Speaker 11: you like.
- 1:10:36Speaker 25: Him but I don't.
- 1:10:37Speaker 4: Oh okay.
- 1:10:38Speaker 5: I was like, you're agreement with me when things that
- 1:10:40Speaker 5: I don't necessarily agree with, Because my argument with Cole
- 1:10:43Speaker 5: Strange wasn't that he's a bust. It's that it's harder
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: to tell of an offensive lineman is a bust because
- 1:10:49Speaker 5: if they play, everybody automatically thinks it's fine. Whereas the
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: other positions where you can get statistics, you can readily see.
- 1:10:56Speaker 11: Yeah you can regulusly, right, but I think you should
- 1:10:59Speaker 11: have got somes Key on white, you know. And but
- 1:11:02Speaker 11: that defense, the secondary, I like what he picked in
- 1:11:05Speaker 11: the last two round or the last six round, six rounds,
- 1:11:08Speaker 11: the last two I just hope they can contribute besides
- 1:11:10Speaker 11: special team.
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I wouldn't count on that.
- 1:11:13Speaker 11: You have fet on't count on it.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I wouldn't.
- 1:11:16Speaker 5: I mean, I mean, you don't take guys that down,
- 1:11:18Speaker 5: you know, in the two hundreds that you're expecting to contribute.
- 1:11:21Speaker 5: Like I mean again, i'd never say never, like there's
- 1:11:25Speaker 5: always outliers.
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: But you know, guys are special teamers in college and right,
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: I mean they can run.
- 1:11:31Speaker 11: But Speed plays for Michigan State. He started on the
- 1:11:34Speaker 11: left side.
- 1:11:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: Speed played his first four years at Georgia and really
- 1:11:37Speaker 5: couldn't get on the field, okay, and then he went
- 1:11:41Speaker 5: to Michigan State for his last year. Right, I'm not
- 1:11:43Speaker 5: that's the one that I'm thinking of. Right, he went
- 1:11:44Speaker 5: to Michigan State is last year and he was okay,
- 1:11:48Speaker 5: Yeah he's okay.
- 1:11:49Speaker 11: Yeah, I saw some fifty was okay, But I think
- 1:11:52Speaker 11: it was a.
- 1:11:52Speaker 5: Big difference big ten passing games and SEC passing games.
- 1:11:56Speaker 11: Yea, it might be.
- 1:11:57Speaker 10: Well.
- 1:11:57Speaker 11: Y'all have a good one.
- 1:11:59Speaker 4: Thanks, appreciate you all your calls. Thank you quick email
- 1:12:04Speaker 4: that just popped up. That made me laugh. Sam from
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: Maryland waging and love the show and the draft coverage.
- 1:12:10Speaker 4: I compiled a few of the best quotes of the draft.
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: Oh boy, yeah, these were good. Mike, this is one
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: of mine. Something about kids in suits just bothers me.
- 1:12:17Speaker 4: It's true. Then then Matisa was like, it's to make
- 1:12:20Speaker 4: a wish kid out.
- 1:12:21Speaker 9: Damn it.
- 1:12:23Speaker 4: Fred, Wait, who did they take? Who was picked? What
- 1:12:26Speaker 4: player is going? As you know, classic Fred playing the hits.
- 1:12:29Speaker 5: You can fill in the blame for any situation in
- 1:12:30Speaker 5: the first round.
- 1:12:31Speaker 4: Yeah, Paul, they're going to trade their third round pick
- 1:12:34Speaker 4: for Force for seven fourths and have all of the
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: fourth round. Fred. We don't want to bore people, Paul
- 1:12:39Speaker 4: too late. Those are a few few highlights from our
- 1:12:42Speaker 4: from our draft. Paul, why don't you tell that? Why
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: don't you tell the audience how how the draft show performed?
- 1:12:47Speaker 5: We got you'd be able to talk about this a
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: little bit too. We got some numbers from our illustrious
- 1:12:51Speaker 5: Chris Ferrara, and there they compile the NFL compile some
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: numbers off of Draft weekend video. So there are different things.
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: But the most watched draft show was the Cowboys. Not
- 1:13:09Speaker 5: surprisingly they own they owned the NFL, and we were
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: second behind Dallas. Now, the gap between Dallas and the
- 1:13:18Speaker 5: Patriots is about one hundred and fifty thousand, so it
- 1:13:21Speaker 5: was significant. They had over two hundred thousand like that.
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: Was well, and we also heard that they might have
- 1:13:25Speaker 4: been Now yeah.
- 1:13:27Speaker 5: Now we're also calling into question, which I like our
- 1:13:30Speaker 5: social media team, the whole mail came to our defense.
- 1:13:34Speaker 5: Evidently Dallas was on for five hours videos and we're
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: told that we can only be on for an hour.
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: Well, they got to get their guy and everyone wants
- 1:13:41Speaker 4: to see it.
- 1:13:41Speaker 5: So if we were on for five hours, that maybe
- 1:13:44Speaker 5: we continue to you know, rack up the clicks in
- 1:13:48Speaker 5: the beginning of videos and whatnot. But so we want
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: to thank The bottom line is Mike gives us an
- 1:13:53Speaker 5: opportunity to thank you guys for making sure that we
- 1:13:56Speaker 5: finished so high in that ranking, because that means a
- 1:13:59Speaker 5: lot to us. It's because there was so many people
- 1:14:01Speaker 5: that were interested in not only the Patriots Draft, but
- 1:14:04Speaker 5: what we had to say about it, So thank you
- 1:14:07Speaker 5: to everybody. See, I don't always criticize no, no.
- 1:14:10Speaker 4: Especially while Look there's a difference between like the general
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: you know, Patriots fan that is just as like you know,
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: just refuses to believe that they haven't won the Super
- 1:14:18Speaker 4: Bowl every year for the last twenty years. And then
- 1:14:19Speaker 4: you know our fans who listen to us, you know,
- 1:14:22Speaker 4: we get both sides of things, and we have fun
- 1:14:24Speaker 4: with it. So we we of course appreciate everybody. That's
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: that's what it's all about. Sticking with the emails here,
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: and I hope I'm doing a good job on these,
- 1:14:32Speaker 4: because a great Josh. I'm gonna wait for Audrey to
- 1:14:36Speaker 4: thank you, though, but I'll wait for her. Towagh In Mike,
- 1:14:39Speaker 4: I found out after Tuesday show you were born in Rochester,
- 1:14:41Speaker 4: New Yorky. It's true. I'm surprised because I've never heard
- 1:14:44Speaker 4: anyone admit to being born there. I was learning how
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: long you stayed there and what your favorite attraction, So
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: I explained it. I mean, I was my parents were
- 1:14:51Speaker 4: there for a few years while my dad was working
- 1:14:53Speaker 4: at Wilson's Sporting Goods. Wilson yeah, support supplying a lot
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: of turned into a Audrey uh sort of, of course, of
- 1:15:01Speaker 4: course he did. But then I moved here, uh to
- 1:15:04Speaker 4: wonderful Holliston, Massachusetts. I think I was about one year old,
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: so I grew up around here. So I have no
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: memory of Rochester or anything like that. But it's just
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: it's one of those random things that I have nothing
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: to do with that, but that is where when like,
- 1:15:14Speaker 4: where's your place at birth? That's what I gotta put down.
- 1:15:17Speaker 9: So but you're you're a mass whole at heart.
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: I mean, Mike, at least you have stories to tell.
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: I mean, you could be like me and born in Boston,
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: you grew up in Everett, went to college in Boston,
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: working in Boston.
- 1:15:28Speaker 9: High school with with Meredith Gray high school.
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: Oh I did. Yeah, I should say no, but but
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: we should take was that.
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: I know she fancies herself Pompeo. Now we went to
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: high school together. She was a year behind.
- 1:15:42Speaker 4: I mean, if if if I'm allowing Star Wars questions today,
- 1:15:45Speaker 4: which we've gotten none I've yet, and Matisa is way
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: in on Grey's Anatomy right now, so our Grays, our
- 1:15:50Speaker 4: Grays fans out there, if you if you've got some
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: marriage questions.
- 1:15:53Speaker 5: It's amazing to me that, of all people, tease.
- 1:15:56Speaker 4: Is so I don't get any he keeps complaints against
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: I can't stop, I can't plan't stop, won't stop it
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: died down.
- 1:16:02Speaker 9: What's the draft game?
- 1:16:03Speaker 10: Throw?
- 1:16:03Speaker 9: Because I like my late round picks over the heart surgeries.
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: So nice. Nice, that's good. Mark from Tennessee love the show.
- 1:16:10Speaker 4: Really feel the Patriots should have drafted offensive tackle in
- 1:16:13Speaker 4: the draft. I'm worried about the longevity of the tackles
- 1:16:15Speaker 4: we have on the roster. Also, I'm concerned about max armstrength.
- 1:16:18Speaker 4: He's not able to put the ball down field with
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: much power. He puts a huge arc on the throws
- 1:16:22Speaker 4: down the field, giving defenders more time to get in
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: position to make the play on the ball.
- 1:16:27Speaker 9: It's called the touch pass.
- 1:16:29Speaker 5: Yeah, I think he throws a good deep ball in
- 1:16:32Speaker 5: that regard, but I would agree with the criticism of it.
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: It does take a while to get there, and I
- 1:16:36Speaker 5: think that we've seen examples of plays that were there
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: to be made that maybe the timing wasn't quite on.
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: But he's got to be on with the offense, and
- 1:16:45Speaker 4: I think that's what exposed him a little bit last
- 1:16:47Speaker 4: year was just that the offense wasn't coordinated in a
- 1:16:50Speaker 4: way that he could go through progressions and take advantage
- 1:16:54Speaker 4: of what he does well. And I you know, I think,
- 1:16:55Speaker 4: if he can't know this is the throw, I've got
- 1:16:59Speaker 4: to make it at this exact moment to get it
- 1:17:01Speaker 4: there at the right time. And you know, it's kind
- 1:17:03Speaker 4: of like what we saw with Cam Newton when he
- 1:17:06Speaker 4: was late to see something and he tried to put
- 1:17:08Speaker 4: more juice in it, and it just you can't catch
- 1:17:10Speaker 4: up once you missed the window. So I'm hoping it's
- 1:17:13Speaker 4: not as much of an issue. But I think, as
- 1:17:15Speaker 4: Paul will tell you when we're watching games up in
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: the press box and Mac lobs won and well, part
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: of that is get there.
- 1:17:20Speaker 5: Part of that is the depth perception that we deal
- 1:17:24Speaker 5: no seriously because I mean that I thought that on
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: a lot of different throws that I've seen over the years,
- 1:17:29Speaker 5: not just Mac, but you know, like I think back
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: to the playoff game in Buffalo. I mean, I know
- 1:17:35Speaker 5: a lot of people just you know, everybody just we'll
- 1:17:38Speaker 5: take a lot of touchdowns on like seven drives.
- 1:17:40Speaker 4: Yeah, they did, they did.
- 1:17:41Speaker 5: They also had a chance to score when they had
- 1:17:43Speaker 5: the ball and didn't like the first I don't know
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: five times they had it, and the first drive of
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: that game was actually probably the best driver of the
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: whole night. And they moved the ball down into scoring
- 1:17:53Speaker 5: territory and they dialed up a play that was there
- 1:17:56Speaker 5: and the receiver was open, and the deep ball that
- 1:17:59Speaker 5: mac threw took a little too long to get there
- 1:18:02Speaker 5: and was thrown in the wrong side. It was a
- 1:18:04Speaker 5: little short and it got picked off, remember, unfortunately by
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: one of the safeties, because they're the same to me, Jordan,
- 1:18:13Speaker 5: it was one of them. And evidently it was the
- 1:18:14Speaker 5: greatest play in the history of safety play because that's
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: everybody has completely absolved the quarterback of any responsibility for
- 1:18:20Speaker 5: that play.
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: Well, Evan puts some on Agla for not going up
- 1:18:23Speaker 4: for that, I think.
- 1:18:24Speaker 5: For not doing much to break it up, but the
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: fact that it wasn't a touchdown is one hundred percent
- 1:18:29Speaker 5: on the quarterback.
- 1:18:30Speaker 9: I think the biggest issue is that you watch Macla.
- 1:18:32Speaker 9: I think Max fine, like, could be worse, could be better.
- 1:18:34Speaker 4: But sure, that's exactly how I feel about.
- 1:18:36Speaker 9: It's fine, he gets the job done, but then you
- 1:18:38Speaker 9: get to like, you know, the Monday night game, the
- 1:18:40Speaker 9: Sunday night game, and you're watching mahomes Josh Allen, and
- 1:18:43Speaker 9: like that's a different level arm strength and there's just
- 1:18:45Speaker 9: so much more speed on the ball.
- 1:18:46Speaker 5: So and I knew, I knew Evan was leaving when
- 1:18:50Speaker 5: when him and Alex had to go in and do
- 1:18:53Speaker 5: the interviews. But like, you know, and that was part
- 1:18:55Speaker 5: of what I would I would clap back with. And
- 1:18:58Speaker 5: you know, his numbers were actually pretty good, good when
- 1:19:00Speaker 5: when he was protected. I'd just like to like to
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: see the quarterback whose numbers are bad when protected. I
- 1:19:07Speaker 5: don't think there are any, you know, I think that
- 1:19:09Speaker 5: most guys, if they're given the time and they're in
- 1:19:12Speaker 5: the NFL, they gotta find ways to complete passes. I
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: think the ones that separate themselves are the ones that
- 1:19:19Speaker 5: can do it quickly and the ones that can do
- 1:19:22Speaker 5: it off platform.
- 1:19:23Speaker 4: I think two. The interesting thing for me that I
- 1:19:26Speaker 4: always hate, I hate bringing up Brady with these kind
- 1:19:28Speaker 4: of things, but just when a game is going one way,
- 1:19:31Speaker 4: and you know, I just I think the big thing
- 1:19:33Speaker 4: with the Mac offense of the last couple of years
- 1:19:35Speaker 4: is just they struggle to flip the switch in a
- 1:19:38Speaker 4: game and if it starts off bad, it kind of
- 1:19:41Speaker 4: stays bad, you know. I mean, I think last year
- 1:19:42Speaker 4: with Minnesota, you got maybe a little bit of them,
- 1:19:45Speaker 4: like it wasn't great, but then they kind of picked
- 1:19:47Speaker 4: it up and started playing well. I just feel a
- 1:19:49Speaker 4: lot with this team. You get what you get when
- 1:19:51Speaker 4: with them, like what you see out of the shoot
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: against the bat they come out there looking feeling good
- 1:19:55Speaker 4: against the bad team. And I agree with that, you know.
- 1:19:58Speaker 5: I think, especially when they start bad, it doesn't generally
- 1:20:00Speaker 5: turn around. Now that Minnesota game was the opposite. They
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: started good and then finished bad. They couldn't do anything
- 1:20:06Speaker 5: in the fourth quarter. But for the most part, I
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: would agree with you. I've seen them have, you know,
- 1:20:14Speaker 5: not much success in the first quarter of games, and
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: it doesn't generally just magically turn around. And hopefully with
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: the coaching change, we won't see as much of that,
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: see a little bit more consistency with production.
- 1:20:25Speaker 4: Well, SPI is weighing in here via email Happy fourth.
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: I appreciate that, he said, Hey, matis amazing episode when
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: Joe met her mom, right, I don't know what that means.
- 1:20:36Speaker 4: Speed speed speed right in a deep right there, he said. Anyway,
- 1:20:40Speaker 4: if MLB wears a Maglio jersey during the pitch, it
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: will be the height of hypocrisy. And I hope you
- 1:20:45Speaker 4: call her out because oh that's a good point. Not
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: a jersey, But I would allow the exception because don't
- 1:20:51Speaker 4: you have to wear like to do that?
- 1:20:53Speaker 5: Wouldn't that sort of be something they give you.
- 1:20:55Speaker 4: She can't go out like all glammed up like meg
- 1:20:57Speaker 4: moa rant like in her.
- 1:20:59Speaker 5: Wwe Oh they can't do that. I can't throw it that.
- 1:21:02Speaker 5: You make a wrong move and all of a sudden
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: it's Janet Jackson.
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: He got to just keep smelling it now.
- 1:21:10Speaker 4: I miss Megan. I was excited for though. That's that's
- 1:21:13Speaker 4: that's Cody, Cody and Indiana ways in. Hey, guys, I
- 1:21:18Speaker 4: have an over under for Paul. What are the chances
- 1:21:20Speaker 4: of getting a Pats from the Past featuring none other
- 1:21:23Speaker 4: than Tom Brady over under? Twenty five percent? Just want
- 1:21:27Speaker 4: to that series is awesome and you guys do a
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: great job of it.
- 1:21:30Speaker 5: I'll take the under, but that doesn't mean what we
- 1:21:32Speaker 5: won't try.
- 1:21:32Speaker 4: Yeah, like he you know what, that might be a
- 1:21:36Speaker 4: life taping.
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: Well, here's the thing is my guess is in the
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: coming years, we're going to have Tom Brady here on
- 1:21:47Speaker 5: I would say multiple occasions to honor him, and I
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: would never say never if we can get him, just
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: you know, he's Who's who's honored Tom Brady? Who's honor?
- 1:21:59Speaker 4: Got it it? Your family's on it all right? Every
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: now and then it's some nonsense.
- 1:22:07Speaker 5: You have to apologize, you up, you have to apologize
- 1:22:09Speaker 5: to me for that because I didn't get it immediately.
- 1:22:11Speaker 4: That's on me. That's honor, bro. That wasn't on you.
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: Mand was on mere would have right now.
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: But who's honor?
- 1:22:21Speaker 4: I was.
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: I was playing the role of a straight man in
- 1:22:23Speaker 5: that one. Excuse me, Tom, but he's gonna be here.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: And I would say, there's always when you have the
- 1:22:29Speaker 5: guy already here, there's always a chance. Now, I would
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: say less than twenty five percent, because I'm not sure
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: that's something that's on his radar. Like to sit down
- 1:22:37Speaker 5: for a half hour forty five minutes with Matt Smith.
- 1:22:39Speaker 4: I mean, I mean, I'm sure it would be good.
- 1:22:41Speaker 4: I don't know how how really good it would be, Like,
- 1:22:44Speaker 4: I mean, he seems kind of guarded. Maybe it could
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: be good, But I'm gonna say, now, why not get
- 1:22:47Speaker 4: very if you could get Rabel, you know, at some.
- 1:22:48Speaker 5: Point absolutely try to get him. And we have a
- 1:22:53Speaker 5: couple in the works that we're trying to get. I'm
- 1:22:56Speaker 5: not going to say the names in case they don't
- 1:22:58Speaker 5: end up coming to fruition, but there should be a
- 1:23:00Speaker 5: couple at least one in the near future, like within
- 1:23:04Speaker 5: the next couple of weeks.
- 1:23:05Speaker 4: Like Mike Cloud, maybe getting those deep this is good.
- 1:23:10Speaker 4: I got Actually I had a question for you, maybe
- 1:23:11Speaker 4: I can do it on the air to tease. So
- 1:23:13Speaker 4: gonna try to do a two thousand and three podcasts
- 1:23:16Speaker 4: like I did for two thousand and one, and I was,
- 1:23:17Speaker 4: you know, trying to build the roster of people to interview,
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: and Mike Cloud just popped up as a name to
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: me of like, who would be kind of an interesting
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: perspective of a guy who just kind of was here
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: for one year. It didn't really you know, was somehow
- 1:23:28Speaker 4: involved in it. But I see game. I don't know
- 1:23:29Speaker 4: if that's any Tennessee. Yeah, I mean he had a
- 1:23:32Speaker 4: couple like I think he had like five or six
- 1:23:34Speaker 4: touchdowns during the year. I don't know if there are
- 1:23:36Speaker 4: players you think from two thousand and three you'd really
- 1:23:38Speaker 4: like to hear from from that two thousand and three
- 1:23:39Speaker 4: oh four, that that that was what I was kind
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: of looking. I mean, Copin is an interesting one because
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: he was a rookie, you know, kind of coming in
- 1:23:45Speaker 4: but teeing that up a little bit.
- 1:23:47Speaker 16: Uh.
- 1:23:48Speaker 4: And if you guys have ideas, please please send them
- 1:23:50Speaker 4: my way. I got to read this one though. Chris
- 1:23:53Speaker 4: from New Hampshire weighing in about our favorite restaurant teas
- 1:23:55Speaker 4: are your Josey Mikes guy? How big are you? You're
- 1:23:57Speaker 4: not as big as you got me onto it. Now
- 1:23:59Speaker 4: you have the King of Jersey Mike's re entering the
- 1:24:01Speaker 4: student cut that meat. Y'all have convinced me to give
- 1:24:06Speaker 4: Jersey Mikes a second chance went years ago, and oh boy,
- 1:24:09Speaker 4: it was awful. I've just finished eating the super Sub
- 1:24:12Speaker 4: Mike's way. Good for you taken on a super sub
- 1:24:15Speaker 4: and will admit I'm rather pleased. I'm planning on trying
- 1:24:18Speaker 4: the big Kahuna next. Does anyone have a must try recommendation? Oh?
- 1:24:22Speaker 5: Is the super sub specific sub?
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: I think you're right. Originally just took that as I
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: was thinking of everyone. I don't know what I'm not,
- 1:24:30Speaker 4: but I think super side all the meats. Why are
- 1:24:33Speaker 4: we asking questions, what a wondering what is the Super
- 1:24:35Speaker 4: Football film? And it is.
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: I believe it's the one that has like the seven
- 1:24:42Speaker 3: different types of meats or whatever it is that they
- 1:24:44Speaker 3: have on the on the on the menu, right, you know,
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: I cam and beat roast, beef and turkey, and I
- 1:24:50Speaker 3: believe that one I think is like it's a warm
- 1:24:56Speaker 3: I think it's a chicken or cheese, steak, syriaki. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:25:01Speaker 3: it's something. It's it's a it's a grilled sub. It's
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: not a it's not a cold.
- 1:25:05Speaker 9: Take a steak and cheese, hot peppers. Keep a simple the.
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: Chipotle steak and cheese. That's really really good.
- 1:25:11Speaker 9: If I'm going that direct, I'm not a cold sandwich. Guys.
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: Well, I generally go with the thirteen. But that's just
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: you know, straight straight Italian.
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: All Right, I finally got a Star Wars question, and
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: I'm Paul, You're just gonna have to humor us here
- 1:25:23Speaker 4: for a second, and I'm gonna I'm like, I'm a
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: same player. I can play along. I love Matt Morela
- 1:25:26Speaker 4: to weigh in on this too, so Matt, listen up,
- 1:25:29Speaker 4: hey gang. Earlier this week I went to see Return
- 1:25:30Speaker 4: of the Jedi in the theaters for the fortieth anniversary
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: of episode six. I'll ask a Star Wars question. Thank you, Eric,
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: what's your favorite Star Wars movie? And why there?
- 1:25:38Speaker 9: You go?
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: Pretty easy? Maybe a basic candor, but mine is episode five.
- 1:25:43Speaker 4: Just love seeing Vader vers Luke. May the fourth be
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: with you and go Pats Evan.
- 1:25:49Speaker 3: I have an opinion about how they labeled the episodes. Perfect, Okay,
- 1:25:53Speaker 3: it's one through three and everything else, Like, did I
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: understand the diehard Star Wars fans or such? I shouldn't
- 1:25:59Speaker 3: say that I don't know what the diami and everything else. Yeah,
- 1:26:03Speaker 3: there's no there's.
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: Because that's Morell's tape. There's no.
- 1:26:06Speaker 3: There's no like four five six is not four five six,
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: four five six is one two three? All right, But
- 1:26:12Speaker 3: the pre quills and the New ones don't don't count. Okay,
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: that's that's my my.
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: You think that's strongly against them. They don't even count.
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: Yes, I they're good, Marilla.
- 1:26:24Speaker 4: You're about to get choked out by a former marine.
- 1:26:26Speaker 2: There's there, there's former marines.
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: There are. There are good qualities about the prequels and
- 1:26:35Speaker 3: the New Ones, but the original trilogy is the original
- 1:26:38Speaker 3: trilogy right like there there's no there's no touch in
- 1:26:41Speaker 3: the originals. That's that's all I'm saying. That's that's coming
- 1:26:44Speaker 3: from somebody that is too young to have seen them,
- 1:26:46Speaker 3: like when they originally came out, too, And I'm telling
- 1:26:49Speaker 3: you that.
- 1:26:49Speaker 9: What was that?
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: Like I told you I saw Star Wars when it
- 1:26:52Speaker 5: originally came out in in the.
- 1:26:56Speaker 9: I'm an Empire starkes back Guy Empires. The thing is like,
- 1:27:00Speaker 9: like I was so young because my grandparents had the VHS,
- 1:27:02Speaker 9: so that's like what I watched growing up. But I
- 1:27:04Speaker 9: remember seeing the special edition Attack of the Clones in
- 1:27:06Speaker 9: theaters and I loved it. But now when I look
- 1:27:08Speaker 9: back on.
- 1:27:11Speaker 4: Matt anything to say, he's just he's bright red, he looks.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: Fantom Menace is my favorite Star Wars. No, it's not,
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: absolutely is It's awesome.
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: The dialogue is your favorite Star Wars movie?
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: Double just really like rand Force uses.
- 1:27:29Speaker 9: Epic, I love. I loved Force Awakens until the others
- 1:27:32Speaker 9: came out. Now I don't like anymore.
- 1:27:34Speaker 4: So I'm gonna I'm gonna handle those movies. Because c G.
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: I was new and agree.
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: I was a product Marine on this. Phantom Menace was
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: the first Star Wars that my generation got to see
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: in theaters and and do that whole thing with so
- 1:27:49Speaker 3: that I, as a kid, I probably watched Phantom Menace
- 1:27:52Speaker 3: a hundred times because what did I know about the
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: the you know, the quality of the movie, his lightsabers,
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: his gun fights, there's you know, the flying around and
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: things like how what more could you as a as
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: an eight year old kid? What more could you possibly want?
- 1:28:06Speaker 9: The best best movie poster ever is probably that way.
- 1:28:08Speaker 4: There were there was so much hype. I'm Empire. I
- 1:28:11Speaker 4: had a record of Empire that I used to just
- 1:28:13Speaker 4: listen to, so that whole movie is burning in my brain.
- 1:28:15Speaker 4: I also just shout out Rogue one and the whole
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: Mando thing, like I just think that that stuff has
- 1:28:19Speaker 4: been amazing and or that was great.
- 1:28:21Speaker 2: Too, and the Duel of the Fates the best soundtrack.
- 1:28:25Speaker 4: So I got to take on this. I knew this
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: was gonna come up with your son. I knew this
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: was gonna come up. I knew this was gonna come up.
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: And and I think the reason you can't take that
- 1:28:32Speaker 4: away from Matt is because and and for you guys
- 1:28:34Speaker 4: is that you saw it as kids. So that was
- 1:28:36Speaker 4: like so at the time, you weren't like judging a
- 1:28:38Speaker 4: movie from that, so it's was a favorite. There's plenty
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: of movies I watched as a kid that were are
- 1:28:42Speaker 4: terrible now, but I would just say like I was
- 1:28:45Speaker 4: like a college senior when Phantom Menace came out, and
- 1:28:47Speaker 4: I'm big Star Wars NERD was so excited. I bought
- 1:28:49Speaker 4: like the soundtrack. I'm listening to Duel of the Fates.
- 1:28:51Speaker 4: I'm like, yeah, this is gonna be so awesome. And
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: then you know, it's just like right as I'm graduating
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: from college. We we actually had like one of the
- 1:28:57Speaker 4: final nights at Holy Cross. Everybody dressed up, so we went,
- 1:29:00Speaker 4: Me and all my buddies all as all the Star Wars.
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: We put a keg on rollerblades with duct tape and
- 1:29:06Speaker 4: rolled the keg in is R two D two. That's
- 1:29:08Speaker 4: how like excited we all were. And then I went
- 1:29:10Speaker 4: and I saw it and I was like, what.
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: It was just amazing, Like talking to two people, you know,
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: my age and with marine and stuff like our our
- 1:29:21Speaker 3: view of Phantom Menace is so much different than people
- 1:29:26Speaker 3: that were a little bit older than us when it
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: came out, and that I think is is really interesting.
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: I love Empire. The first like hour of Return of
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: the Jedi, though, is is fantastic in my mind. I
- 1:29:36Speaker 3: think that was the first real introduction to like you know,
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: oh sorry I was I was too young for that, micuh,
- 1:29:46Speaker 3: but the first that like Luke is like a full
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: on Jedi at that point, right, so he's you know,
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: when he takes down the job of the hut. That
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: that right there was like my iconic scene as a kid,
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: just remembering him, you know, do the flip and the
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: lightsaber and just go on as.
- 1:30:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I know, we better get off of this before
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: we lose.
- 1:30:08Speaker 5: That was fantastic, not at all, I will say this.
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: You know, the Phantom Menace when it came out, it
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: was a little bit before I started here, And uh, Fred,
- 1:30:17Speaker 5: who is I think Matt, You're probably the only one
- 1:30:20Speaker 5: that would blow Fred away in terms of your just
- 1:30:24Speaker 5: fandom for Star Wars. He declared her the day off
- 1:30:28Speaker 5: for the entire department. He had the intern at the
- 1:30:31Speaker 5: time go stand it because this was before like you know,
- 1:30:34Speaker 5: all the the onset of all the online and phones
- 1:30:37Speaker 5: and all that stuff. So he had an intern go
- 1:30:39Speaker 5: and stand in line and get tickets for everybody, and
- 1:30:41Speaker 5: it was required that they all went, and they all went.
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: You know, Brian Morey was still here. I'm guessing Mike
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: Reese was still here. You know, some of the people
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: behind the scenes in production and design, they all went
- 1:30:54Speaker 5: to Phantom Menace because Fred declared it a requirement.
- 1:30:59Speaker 17: Had we not been on year for the draft, we
- 1:31:00Speaker 17: all would have been all at Patriot Place watching Return
- 1:31:03Speaker 17: of the Jedi.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: I would have gone, we all.
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: You would have been there too. I would drag you.
- 1:31:08Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, you wouldn't have been. Yeah, I
- 1:31:10Speaker 4: gotta I gotta agree with Christopher Colfax, hero who writes
- 1:31:12Speaker 4: and he says, my personal favorite is Revenge of the Sith,
- 1:31:15Speaker 4: which I for me is the only you know that's okay?
- 1:31:17Speaker 4: That one's pretty good. Lightsaber battle choreography is incredible in
- 1:31:20Speaker 4: the prequels, particularly number three. However, more importantly, Lord of
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: the Rings is better.
- 1:31:24Speaker 3: You you get out of here right, absolutely, not, oh
- 1:31:27Speaker 3: my goodness, but Revenge of the Sith. My cousin he's eighteen,
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: and he's really into Star Wars more than new stuff
- 1:31:34Speaker 3: obviously than than the old stuff. But that's the one
- 1:31:37Speaker 3: movie that my aunt is like, I'll watch that one
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: with him like that one's actually like pretty pretty good,
- 1:31:43Speaker 3: but he u he loves you know, Kylo Wren and
- 1:31:47Speaker 3: like all the new villains and he's a villains.
- 1:31:49Speaker 4: I just want to go up to a nd No,
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: it's terrible.
- 1:31:53Speaker 3: Stop there. So yeah, he went to not terrible. He
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: went to Star Wars in Disney and he made a
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: lightsaber at the lightsaber thing and he made a red
- 1:32:04Speaker 3: lightsaber and I couldn't go because during the season and
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: he comes home with it and I'm like checking it out.
- 1:32:09Speaker 3: I'm like, this thing is so super cool and I'm
- 1:32:12Speaker 3: and I and I was like, oh, of course it's red,
- 1:32:14Speaker 3: like because he's Darth Vader and Kylo are his two favorites.
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: And uh my, my parents and my aunt are like wait,
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: like it's like the villains. It's red because he likes
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: evil people. Like this is not good. And I was like,
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: let the kid live. I like whatever he wants.
- 1:32:27Speaker 4: I've been to the Disneyland make your Own Lightsaber factory
- 1:32:30Speaker 4: and it's like super cool. I was like I was
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: near now when I was six years old again, because
- 1:32:34Speaker 4: I grew up with like a flashlight. You know, you're
- 1:32:36Speaker 4: making the noise. You never really actually have now they
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: have like these real ones that that look real all right.
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: The Disney wants are Lightsaber the one he has.
- 1:32:44Speaker 5: You guys, when someone writes in and gives me a
- 1:32:47Speaker 5: quiz on past Patriots numbers, you guys, don't storm off
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: on a set.
- 1:32:52Speaker 4: No, I just I just in awe of you of
- 1:32:54Speaker 4: your knowledge. But we will just jump back to the
- 1:32:56Speaker 4: funds real quick, because Christian's been hanging on. Hey, Christian,
- 1:32:59Speaker 4: how a chrish jhan.
- 1:33:03Speaker 9: Oh lost him?
- 1:33:05Speaker 4: No, nothing's still there, man, he probably he probably zoned
- 1:33:08Speaker 4: out about the Star Wars up. Let's keep it going though, Patty, Patty.
- 1:33:14Speaker 10: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:33:15Speaker 25: Guys?
- 1:33:17Speaker 4: Star Wars? Get us off it?
- 1:33:20Speaker 25: All right, I'll throw a Star Wars opinion out, but
- 1:33:23Speaker 25: I wanted to throw it at an opinion I had.
- 1:33:26Speaker 25: Uh the other night. Might have been the marijuana that
- 1:33:29Speaker 25: was making me think of think about this. But you
- 1:33:33Speaker 25: know how we always say, like, you know, look at
- 1:33:35Speaker 25: what Bill does. Don't don't listen to what he says.
- 1:33:39Speaker 25: And I think, just from my perspective, I think the
- 1:33:41Speaker 25: whole Mac thing got blown out of proportion just because
- 1:33:45Speaker 25: I think if it was really that bad, if it
- 1:33:48Speaker 25: was really that toxic. I mean, we've seen him bench
- 1:33:51Speaker 25: Malcolm Butler in the biggest game of the frigging year.
- 1:33:54Speaker 25: He knew he had a quarterback that could play sitting
- 1:33:56Speaker 25: behind Max. But I think if that was really that
- 1:33:58Speaker 25: bad as bad as like it got blow enough to
- 1:34:00Speaker 25: be that he would have just started Bailey for like
- 1:34:03Speaker 25: three or four of the last games.
- 1:34:06Speaker 5: But I'll say, what if it wasn't his choice.
- 1:34:10Speaker 25: Well, maybe he might be right, Paul.
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: But oh, I don't. I'm not.
- 1:34:13Speaker 5: I'm just given another side of it. I'm not necessarily
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: giving you what my view of that is. But it
- 1:34:20Speaker 5: may not have been his choice.
- 1:34:22Speaker 25: But we've also heard Roberts say that, like he lets.
- 1:34:25Speaker 4: He loves him the football thing.
- 1:34:26Speaker 5: But he also has said many times that he loves
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: Mac and Bill hasn't.
- 1:34:33Speaker 25: Before the before I get to my start wars quick
- 1:34:37Speaker 25: one at you who was known as the Undertaker?
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: Was that? I missed the question?
- 1:34:44Speaker 25: What former Patriot player was known as the Undertaker?
- 1:34:47Speaker 5: Oh, Vincent Brown, Yes, sir, So I like Phantom Menace.
- 1:34:52Speaker 25: I was twenty two when it came out. I thought
- 1:34:54Speaker 25: it was actually not that bad of a movie. I mean,
- 1:34:56Speaker 25: I think, all.
- 1:34:57Speaker 5: Right, I think it's just one of the greatest calls
- 1:35:00Speaker 5: that we've ever had. I mean, he touched on on
- 1:35:03Speaker 5: current day, Current Day Patriots with Mac and Bill, Old
- 1:35:06Speaker 5: School with Vincent Brown, and now he brings it back
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: on topic with Star Wars.
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: I mean, I think this is a great Jordan's furnishure.
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: You get it for free.
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: Well done, Well done, Patty.
- 1:35:20Speaker 25: But you know, jar Jar was annoying, and I think
- 1:35:22Speaker 25: too many people talking about things getting overblown. I mean,
- 1:35:25Speaker 25: if you take Jarjar out of the movie, it's a
- 1:35:27Speaker 25: really good movie. And as far as like the News
- 1:35:31Speaker 25: sequel series, I thought The Force Awakens was definitely the
- 1:35:36Speaker 25: best of the bunch. I think they really missed the
- 1:35:38Speaker 25: boat on the last Jedi. You know, that's that's just
- 1:35:41Speaker 25: my opinion of And of course this may sound ridiculous,
- 1:35:45Speaker 25: like I think Godfather Too is a better movie, but
- 1:35:49Speaker 25: Godfather wons my favorite of the series in the same
- 1:35:52Speaker 25: sense like the original Star Wars is my favorite movie
- 1:35:55Speaker 25: of all time. But I will admit that Empire is
- 1:35:57Speaker 25: a better movie. If that makes any sort of sense.
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's a fair point.
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: I think so, yeah, it totally makes sense. Thanks, Patty.
- 1:36:05Speaker 4: I just don't think you can qualify the first one
- 1:36:07Speaker 4: as like being part of the judgment of what's the
- 1:36:09Speaker 4: best one, because there wouldn't be any of this without
- 1:36:11Speaker 4: that one. It just kind of stands above that.
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: You know, what if I told you that, what if
- 1:36:16Speaker 5: I told you the only one I've put.
- 1:36:18Speaker 4: At thirty for thirty first, that'd be all right, Paul,
- 1:36:23Speaker 4: you got things to do. Although DJ Rhymes chimes in,
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: Rogue one is the best Star Wars movie, and I'm
- 1:36:29Speaker 4: old enough to say that Keon White is going to
- 1:36:31Speaker 4: be a monster, and you guys are the best podcast
- 1:36:33Speaker 4: in existence. Thanks for picking me up twice to thrice.
- 1:36:35Speaker 4: Another great emails a week, another great.
- 1:36:37Speaker 3: Well that they have very different opinions on the first
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: two things, he said, So I'm surprised that.
- 1:36:42Speaker 4: Evan's so great. Lee Lee chimes in and said, I
- 1:36:44Speaker 4: really liked Evan until he said he was eight when
- 1:36:46Speaker 4: The Phantom Menace came out. Get off my lawn, Lazare Yeah,
- 1:36:49Speaker 4: I say it all the time.
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: Get I think I might have been even younger. I
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: want to say, Phantom Menace is ninety eighty nine.
- 1:36:58Speaker 4: Seven.
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: It was just before I started work seven.
- 1:37:01Speaker 2: That's ten.
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: Yeah. Robert Robert in San Diego via Connecticut just chimed
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: in and said, the best Star Wars movie is clearly Spaceball.
- 1:37:10Speaker 4: You've seen space Schwartz. Schwartz is as big as mine.
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: Rogue one is fantastic, But like, let's not it's not
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: the greatest Star Wars movie of all of all. No,
- 1:37:20Speaker 3: let's let's relax with that. It's a great it's it's
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: the best of the New ones by far.
- 1:37:24Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely dark, and you're like, at a certain point
- 1:37:27Speaker 4: in movie, you're like, are they gonna die? Like crazy?
- 1:37:28Speaker 4: Really going where?
- 1:37:29Speaker 9: I think it's just crazy? They cut out, like what
- 1:37:31Speaker 9: an hour of it? Matt, you hear about that?
- 1:37:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it was a disaster. There were a lot of
- 1:37:34Speaker 4: like you know, shots from like them running across it,
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: like get shot at It never actually happened. I recut,
- 1:37:41Speaker 4: but hey, it all worked out right.
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: And then the end scene with with Vader and the
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: whole thing. I just the movie boilers for fantastic. Like
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: Paul hasn't even seen the two and three. He's not
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: going to go on to Road one.
- 1:37:57Speaker 4: I like he saw the original Star Wars the Empires.
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: He probably had some friends that were excited to go
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: see it. He's like, man, good. No, I liked it,
- 1:38:05Speaker 4: like I'm drinking, I got girls.
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: No, I went with my my grandmother actually took my
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: brother and I to see it, and.
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: We we all like we liked it.
- 1:38:12Speaker 5: Yeah, I just I guess maybe I was a little
- 1:38:16Speaker 5: older when Empire came out and I was kind of
- 1:38:18Speaker 5: not really as interested.
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: I don't. I'm just it doesn't.
- 1:38:21Speaker 5: I wish that I had a passion for it, like
- 1:38:24Speaker 5: you guys do really for anything. No, I mean, I
- 1:38:29Speaker 5: just it's just not my thing, Like Matt, Matt makes
- 1:38:31Speaker 5: fun of me all the time. It's the same with
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: all the like the comic book, like the superhero movies,
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: and you know, I like, what is it twenty is
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: it twenty three of them? How many of the like
- 1:38:42Speaker 5: the marvel in thirties?
- 1:38:44Speaker 4: Like too much time for that.
- 1:38:45Speaker 5: I've probably seen five of them, you know, maybe and
- 1:38:49Speaker 5: I've never seen one that I came out. Oh my god,
- 1:38:51Speaker 5: I can't believe I just watching. No, they're entertaining, like
- 1:38:54Speaker 5: I enjoy them, it's just not.
- 1:38:56Speaker 2: I was number twenty three on my shirt.
- 1:38:58Speaker 4: It's just not my thing. That's That's a lot. And
- 1:39:01Speaker 4: and and Reno emails in and says, on this day,
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: May the fourth belive you. I've got to say, I've
- 1:39:05Speaker 4: never seen a single Star Wars movie, and I'm twenty eight,
- 1:39:07Speaker 4: so it's not like I'm young. Ca Marie, Matt and
- 1:39:09Speaker 4: Deuce and everybody else. Explain why one day I should
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: watch them. I'm not gonna say you should watch all them.
- 1:39:15Speaker 4: Just watch the original Star Wars.
- 1:39:16Speaker 16: Do it.
- 1:39:17Speaker 2: You don't appreciate it, I don't watch you watch it
- 1:39:18Speaker 2: go somewhere else.
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: I love that.
- 1:39:20Speaker 9: I'm saying, if you had the three years of the
- 1:39:22Speaker 9: pandemic and you didn't watch it, just don't.
- 1:39:24Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, it might not be your thing, but
- 1:39:26Speaker 4: I think I don't think anybody's gonna be mad to
- 1:39:28Speaker 4: sit through a new Hope and feel like I've burned,
- 1:39:30Speaker 4: you know, hours a month. It's an easy watch.
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: The best thing I can, I guess I can say
- 1:39:35Speaker 3: about it is is like I don't know. I was
- 1:39:37Speaker 3: obviously very a nerd, as you could probably tell as
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: a kid, and that was like living out they lived
- 1:39:43Speaker 3: out in the movie. What like you're you would live
- 1:39:46Speaker 3: out if you were in space and like you were,
- 1:39:49Speaker 3: you know, in that world, right like you could you
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: could put yourself in their shoes and be like dang,
- 1:39:54Speaker 3: it would be like super cool to like fire around
- 1:39:56Speaker 3: the Millennium falcon and like, you know, do all this
- 1:39:58Speaker 3: crazy stuff. And that was like what got me into
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: it one hundred percent was you know, I had all
- 1:40:03Speaker 3: the lightsabers, and you know, you had you did all
- 1:40:06Speaker 3: this stuff as a kid, and you just like put
- 1:40:09Speaker 3: yourself in that world and you immerse yourself in and
- 1:40:11Speaker 3: you're like, oh, yeah, this is I used to.
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: Take my take my han solo guy and I put
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: him in a cup of water and I'd freeze him
- 1:40:17Speaker 4: and then I'd wait, you know, like actually seven hours later,
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: I'd be like, Okay, he's frozen, and they'd be like right,
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: melt hm out.
- 1:40:23Speaker 5: Now.
- 1:40:23Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:40:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm not a lot of banker, but kind of
- 1:40:25Speaker 4: like lobster.
- 1:40:26Speaker 3: I wanted I was more of a luke guy. I'm
- 1:40:28Speaker 3: not gonna lie.
- 1:40:28Speaker 5: What year did Empire Strikes Back come out?
- 1:40:30Speaker 4: Eighty eighty? Yes, yeah, I think it was eighty and
- 1:40:33Speaker 4: eighty three or.
- 1:40:34Speaker 5: Four, because it was seventy I think it was seventy seven, right.
- 1:40:37Speaker 4: For the original seven eighty, So like I'm just thinking
- 1:40:40Speaker 4: I was nine woint and then twelve.
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: Like to me, there's a little bit of a difference there.
- 1:40:47Speaker 5: Maybe I just wasn't as interested in going to see
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: at that time, you know, because.
- 1:40:51Speaker 4: You know, well you were probably like into girls and
- 1:40:53Speaker 4: boosting cars correctly, well, boosting cars, not so much.
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: Completely infetchated was playing with the save you were, Skywalker?
- 1:41:02Speaker 4: I bet you were playing with something all right, he's back,
- 1:41:06Speaker 4: Christian from la Hey, Christian, thanks for calling back in.
- 1:41:09Speaker 15: Hey guys, Yeah, made the Fourth be with you.
- 1:41:11Speaker 13: I remember how important Star Wars was to me because
- 1:41:15Speaker 13: in this galaxy far far away, a long long time ago,
- 1:41:19Speaker 13: which was the past I was. I was flabbergasted by
- 1:41:22Speaker 13: the fact that everyone had British accent. I'm like, how
- 1:41:25Speaker 13: the hell was the British empire that far back?
- 1:41:28Speaker 4: Eventually you just ruined Star Wars for us.
- 1:41:31Speaker 20: Thanks.
- 1:41:33Speaker 13: Eventually I saw the one and only person of African
- 1:41:37Speaker 13: descent like me in the movies, you know, Billy d
- 1:41:40Speaker 13: Williams as and let me tell you, I went as
- 1:41:45Speaker 13: Lando cal Risian for the next five years. The Fourth,
- 1:41:51Speaker 13: guys that I just switched that this year for us,
- 1:41:54Speaker 13: for a team I over under is I believe that
- 1:41:58Speaker 13: the addition of ju jusus guys, and maybe I'll to
- 1:42:01Speaker 13: fly it pan out. I think I can win. I'll
- 1:42:04Speaker 13: let you guys take it from there. But I made
- 1:42:06Speaker 13: it fun with your guys always.
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: Thank you appreciate it, just to share. I use a
- 1:42:11Speaker 4: Lando quote a lot that it just comes out of me.
- 1:42:13Speaker 4: What do we here? Yeah, that's mine.
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: I actually really liked uh. I know, Solo is something
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: that is a very touchy subject. I think for a
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: lot of Star Wars people about it actually being good
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: or not. But I love the scenes of like young
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: Lando and like getting to understand how they became friends,
- 1:42:31Speaker 3: and because he just kind of comes out of nowhere
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: in the originals and it's just like, oh, I just
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: have this buddy named Lando who can help us. So
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: it's just cool to get those types of backstories.
- 1:42:40Speaker 2: It was a good movie. You got screwed on its
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: release date.
- 1:42:42Speaker 3: I agree. I thought Solo was pretty solid as well.
- 1:42:44Speaker 5: I saw it in anybody Who's angry about this?
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: We went to Jordan's Furniture and Natick and saw it
- 1:42:51Speaker 3: in the Imax, me and my cousin. I really enjoyed it. Actually,
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: it did.
- 1:42:54Speaker 5: So how many of the movies morel You're probably not
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: a good gauge on this, but how many of the
- 1:43:00Speaker 5: Star Wars movies. Did you guys actually physically go to
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: a theater to see.
- 1:43:05Speaker 9: Like everything from Phantom Menesot, Yeah.
- 1:43:07Speaker 4: I've seen. I've seen all nine of all New two.
- 1:43:09Speaker 4: I think I've seen all.
- 1:43:10Speaker 5: Of them because I was thinking, maybe, you know, as
- 1:43:13Speaker 5: an excuse for myself, which obviously is not an excuse
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: at all, because you guys just blew it up. Then
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: you always like you had no other alternative. Well, you
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: weren't getting a DVD, you weren't plugging it in your VCR,
- 1:43:25Speaker 5: you weren't waiting for it to come out on Netflix,
- 1:43:27Speaker 5: like you had to go to the theater to see it.
- 1:43:30Speaker 4: Yeah, well it's been three three you guys all did that.
- 1:43:32Speaker 4: Well it's been three. Well it's three separate things for
- 1:43:35Speaker 4: me because as a kid, I went with my parents
- 1:43:37Speaker 4: going to the theater, and I guess they took me
- 1:43:39Speaker 4: down Press Strike strikes back a bunch, they said. Then
- 1:43:42Speaker 4: I was like in my twenties, like graduating college in
- 1:43:44Speaker 4: my twenties, and it was like, you know, we're kind
- 1:43:46Speaker 4: of like just everybody was so excited. But then these
- 1:43:49Speaker 4: last ones, it's been cool because I have kids and
- 1:43:50Speaker 4: you get to like experience it with them and share
- 1:43:52Speaker 4: the passion you have for it. I mean, I'm far
- 1:43:54Speaker 4: more connected with my kids about Star Wars than the Patriots, Like.
- 1:43:56Speaker 5: Well, that's why I feel with my cousin, any of
- 1:43:58Speaker 5: the Batman's or Spider Man, any of those that I've seen,
- 1:44:01Speaker 5: it's all been taking my kids Batman versus Superman like,
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: like I said, every one of them I've gone to see,
- 1:44:07Speaker 5: I've never left and said, I can't believe I just
- 1:44:09Speaker 5: wasted my money on that.
- 1:44:11Speaker 4: That's just how it worked.
- 1:44:12Speaker 9: What was the one that came out again, I forget
- 1:44:15Speaker 9: the name of the Attack of the Clones, Revenge of
- 1:44:19Speaker 9: the Revenge of Sith. I saw that at the well
- 1:44:21Speaker 9: Fleet drive in. It was a double feature and that
- 1:44:23Speaker 9: was first. I was so excited. And then The Longest
- 1:44:25Speaker 9: Yard of Adam Sandler was on after and I like
- 1:44:27Speaker 9: that way more.
- 1:44:30Speaker 4: The original Longest Yard. I think if they remade Revenge
- 1:44:32Speaker 4: of the sit they could they could really knock it
- 1:44:34Speaker 4: out of the park if they really really wanted to
- 1:44:36Speaker 4: take it to the next level. Speed speech chiming in
- 1:44:38Speaker 4: about and or Yes, and or was was very good.
- 1:44:40Speaker 4: It was like an adult Star Wars show, not not
- 1:44:43Speaker 4: all the fan service kind of stuff, but but just
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: probably good TV show. Alright, I'm trying to find some
- 1:44:48Speaker 4: football stuff here.
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: It's okay, do you have any now you're embracing the
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: off season, Yeah, there you go.
- 1:44:54Speaker 3: If it's about Star Wars.
- 1:44:55Speaker 4: J Just so you know, a lot of.
- 1:44:57Speaker 5: The shows are about Star Wars.
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: What uh what? What was up with the gaziki?
- 1:45:01Speaker 3: Though we talked about Star Wars for the whole time.
- 1:45:05Speaker 3: He did mention that he's he's just gonna let it
- 1:45:08Speaker 3: come natural, right, He's not He's not. Multiple people he did. Yeah,
- 1:45:15Speaker 3: he did say that he's not ruling it out. That
- 1:45:18Speaker 3: you know, he's not saying like, oh it's dead. You know,
- 1:45:20Speaker 3: I'm not going to do it. He said he's not
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: ruling it out. Somebody did ask him if he compared
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: his to Mac Jones as yet and and there was
- 1:45:27Speaker 3: that kind of back and forth. But I think that
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: the two things that that stood out about him were,
- 1:45:34Speaker 3: you know, he's he just looks like an athlete, which
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: we knew because he's a great athlete, and he tested
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: out of the out of the moon at the Combine
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: when he came out of Penn State. But look, just
- 1:45:44Speaker 3: looks the part, right, just come in the room, tall,
- 1:45:46Speaker 3: athletic build, just exactly what you would expect. And I
- 1:45:50Speaker 3: thought it was interesting what he was saying about the
- 1:45:53Speaker 3: connections that he has to Bill O'Brien into this offense.
- 1:45:56Speaker 3: You know, chat O'Shea and some of the Patriot coaches
- 1:45:59Speaker 3: that were down there with Brian Flores in Miami, and
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: that Bill Brian recruited him to Penn State, didn't actually
- 1:46:04Speaker 3: coach him at Penn State because he went to the
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: Texans before that, but recruited him out to Penn State.
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: So he said he kind of just picked up right
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: where they left off back in twenty thirteen on those
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: recruiting visits and things like that. So I'm cautiously optimistic that,
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: you know, I think we all know that to beat
- 1:46:23Speaker 3: out Johnny Smith's production is not really going to take
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: a whole lot out of Micah Siki, But I think
- 1:46:28Speaker 3: that he's one of those guys that seems like he's
- 1:46:31Speaker 3: buying in immediately to the program. The last thing that
- 1:46:34Speaker 3: he did say that's probably gonna it's the most impression
- 1:46:38Speaker 3: tweets so far from the press conference on my feet,
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: and that is that he was roommates with Mac Jones
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: for a little while. When he first got to New
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: England back in March, she was living in Mac and
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: Sophie's basement. So that was the big one. I think
- 1:46:54Speaker 3: was as well as some bodying since yeah, he said that,
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: you know, the Mexic got a pretty good setup over there.
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: We're not gonna say where, We're gonna say over there.
- 1:47:04Speaker 4: Pretty good son. Yeah, yeah, now you got a tight
- 1:47:07Speaker 4: end living with us.
- 1:47:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:47:08Speaker 4: I had to go into myself, why is she like,
- 1:47:10Speaker 4: I don't know, I don't know. That's that's my character
- 1:47:13Speaker 4: and I'm sticking to it that she's just like it
- 1:47:15Speaker 4: is so bizarre. Sorry to go back to Star Wars percent,
- 1:47:20Speaker 4: but Speed chimes in and speak, credit to you for
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: all the great emails. But he says Jedi is my
- 1:47:24Speaker 4: favorite of them all. But adding the CGI to the
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: episodes was the national tragedy. They ruined the band in
- 1:47:29Speaker 4: Jabba's Palace and the ewok Yupnubs song. I agree one
- 1:47:32Speaker 4: hundred percent. Like I just the changes that they went
- 1:47:35Speaker 4: back and made it just like takes me.
- 1:47:37Speaker 3: Well, let me let me ask you guys this uch.
- 1:47:38Speaker 5: You guys are missing the visual of the utter disgust
- 1:47:42Speaker 5: that Morrell has with every passing email, so price because
- 1:47:46Speaker 5: I'll tell.
- 1:47:47Speaker 3: You, kid, Evin really wonders this a lot about this.
- 1:47:50Speaker 3: What was the difference between jar Jar and the Ewoks,
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: because like they're both kind of these like annoying, like
- 1:47:56Speaker 3: Disney esque things that like we really don't need.
- 1:48:00Speaker 5: I don't know it just now, Morel's gonna say, well,
- 1:48:02Speaker 5: if you don't know, I'm not.
- 1:48:03Speaker 9: Gonna you can see the steam coming out of No.
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: I'm just saying, like I think that I think Jargar
- 1:48:08Speaker 3: is worse.
- 1:48:08Speaker 2: Don't you writing that they turned the lightsaber blue instead
- 1:48:11Speaker 2: of white?
- 1:48:11Speaker 3: Really really it's clearly worse. But I'm just saying, like, what.
- 1:48:19Speaker 4: Line. That's a great line, Morel, we're on video map
- 1:48:23Speaker 4: that supports your.
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: I he should be sitting here.
- 1:48:27Speaker 5: I mean he's actually you should be sitting Then you
- 1:48:32Speaker 5: guys could have your.
- 1:48:35Speaker 4: Star Wars fil monsters.
- 1:48:36Speaker 5: Little.
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: I think Charger gets an unfair shake.
- 1:48:38Speaker 4: Yeah, well, I mean someone I just lost the email here,
- 1:48:42Speaker 4: like Fred, they're not magically deleting. But but somebody mentioned
- 1:48:45Speaker 4: that at one point the plan was to have jar
- 1:48:46Speaker 4: j RB. It was always the ultimate bad guy with
- 1:48:49Speaker 4: villain right.
- 1:48:50Speaker 9: It was always jar was.
- 1:48:51Speaker 17: Gonna be the ultimate sithe and then they, uh, he
- 1:48:53Speaker 17: was racist and.
- 1:48:54Speaker 5: Said, so you said that on the show. It was
- 1:48:57Speaker 5: he was so hated that they.
- 1:48:59Speaker 2: When we're eating the draft the other day, Yeah, yeah,
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:49:01Speaker 4: I see. There's nothing about him that looks intimidating, like
- 1:49:05Speaker 4: you're never like you can't.
- 1:49:07Speaker 9: That's a bit of bad call.
- 1:49:08Speaker 4: Uh let's jump back to the phone here real quick
- 1:49:11Speaker 4: as we come down the home stretch with Jake and Georgia. Hey, Jake,
- 1:49:14Speaker 4: thanks for calling in.
- 1:49:15Speaker 15: Hey guys, star Wars fan. Unfortunately, I grew up not
- 1:49:20Speaker 15: actually watching any of it, but during COVID i was
- 1:49:23Speaker 15: Spike TV, I was like, Okay, you know what, I'm
- 1:49:26Speaker 15: just gonna watch the entire original trilogy all at once.
- 1:49:29Speaker 15: Ended up loving it, and The Force Awakens was coming out,
- 1:49:32Speaker 15: and that's that took my fandom to.
- 1:49:34Speaker 12: A whole new level.
- 1:49:37Speaker 15: I would say that I really despised Star Wars fans.
- 1:49:43Speaker 2: No one's like I'm heavy at you.
- 1:49:48Speaker 14: There's no consensus on like what's good out there for
- 1:49:51Speaker 14: Star Wars except and or Rogue one and the original trilogy.
- 1:49:57Speaker 14: Everyone can debate in between. But I would say, uh,
- 1:50:03Speaker 14: the Force.
- 1:50:03Speaker 15: Awakens and like the new Star Wars added some great
- 1:50:05Speaker 15: stuff that I really loved, the combat of the mythology
- 1:50:09Speaker 15: of like the did I and the prequels ended up
- 1:50:12Speaker 15: like adding some nuanced to Star Wars because the original
- 1:50:16Speaker 15: with Star Wars, in my opinion, it's okay, but I
- 1:50:21Speaker 15: would say we should be talking about Doom, Dune, Dune.
- 1:50:27Speaker 4: What are we talking about in the original Star Wars? Okay,
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: had all exact decision that one is ready.
- 1:50:38Speaker 3: If I was running it, I would have been doing
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: the same.
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: Thing is a little weird. I mean, I watched the
- 1:50:43Speaker 4: David Lynch version of Dune growing up and thinking like,
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: maybe you're getting a Star Wars sci fi kind of thing.
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: And everybody's like talking about spice and sandworms and that.
- 1:50:53Speaker 9: The South Park Spice.
- 1:50:54Speaker 4: Version not not not not my cup of tea. But
- 1:50:58Speaker 4: but thank you. I mean, we certainly got and a
- 1:51:00Speaker 4: lot of people chiming in about about the Star Wars
- 1:51:03Speaker 4: and I mean, it's a it's fine, you got so
- 1:51:05Speaker 4: much to discuss, but I agree, like there's just so
- 1:51:07Speaker 4: many hot takes and if you like it, you like
- 1:51:09Speaker 4: it all right, I might as well. I'm not wrapping
- 1:51:12Speaker 4: up yet, but I gotta I gotta read this one.
- 1:51:16Speaker 4: Trent writes in about soap on a slot, Freddy, we
- 1:51:21Speaker 4: might have a product that combines your soap with a
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: slot with the ever popular loofa. Picture it if you
- 1:51:26Speaker 4: will a loofah with a slot to put a soap in.
- 1:51:29Speaker 4: No more wasting soap slivers, stick them in the slot.
- 1:51:32Speaker 4: Sick of sick of always adding soap to your loofa
- 1:51:35Speaker 4: problem solved with the loof of pocket. So it's will
- 1:51:37Speaker 4: never run out, million dollars, million dollar idea. You say
- 1:51:40Speaker 4: it's all yours in exchange for a PU shirt. So
- 1:51:45Speaker 4: there have been a lot of emails about PU shirts,
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: and Matt, I think we have to figure out a
- 1:51:48Speaker 4: way to distribute those. But I would say I think
- 1:51:51Speaker 4: we'd all agree that we'll try to get at training camp.
- 1:51:54Speaker 4: If you're able to make it out to training camp,
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: I think we'll.
- 1:51:56Speaker 5: Be Uh, that's where we got to give you the cannon.
- 1:51:58Speaker 9: Ready, I'm gonna get the T shirt.
- 1:51:59Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, the tie has been efforting a T shirt
- 1:52:01Speaker 4: can which are surprisingly.
- 1:52:03Speaker 9: Tallall guess how much a T shirt gun is? Please
- 1:52:05Speaker 9: just guess.
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: I'm gonna says that's right on the dot.
- 1:52:11Speaker 4: But you want to come out, you want Paul to
- 1:52:12Speaker 4: shoot you in the face with a T shirt gun. Well,
- 1:52:14Speaker 4: we'll make it happen. Whatever, whatever you need. We just
- 1:52:17Speaker 4: signed one today too. We signed a tcher to sign them.
- 1:52:20Speaker 4: Just be careful how many times you watch it, because
- 1:52:22Speaker 4: I don't know how well they hold up an What
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: was that? Nothing? What? All right? This one just came up,
- 1:52:28Speaker 4: but I'm gonna mention it. The five O first Legion.
- 1:52:30Speaker 4: You guys have heard about that. That's like a a
- 1:52:32Speaker 4: whole band of twenty thousand stormtroopers that go and do
- 1:52:35Speaker 4: things that might be kind of fun. Get here the
- 1:52:37Speaker 4: Patriots game? Perhaps back to football though? Were you just
- 1:52:41Speaker 4: talking to English?
- 1:52:42Speaker 9: What was that?
- 1:52:43Speaker 4: I have no idea what you don't know? I feel
- 1:52:44Speaker 4: like Audrey right now is grinding her gears like I'm
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: grinding her gears with my performance here down the strength
- 1:52:49Speaker 4: at the time in your head. I apologize. Question regarding
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: Kendrick from Alex Alex P. I was wondering with Kendrick
- 1:52:59Speaker 4: Bourne as a clean slate for last year. And if
- 1:53:01Speaker 4: you think Billy Oh gets the best out of him,
- 1:53:03Speaker 4: or is he just another guy who could be first
- 1:53:06Speaker 4: to go when the opportunity arises. I think he's an
- 1:53:08Speaker 4: interesting guy. What do you guys think? It's just how
- 1:53:10Speaker 4: he's going to fit in here.
- 1:53:11Speaker 3: I think that there's two sides to Kendrick Bourne. There's
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: the one side of where a lot of this fan
- 1:53:16Speaker 3: base thinks that he's Jerry Rice, and that side I
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: can't get on board with. But I do think that
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: there's a world where Kendrick Bourne emerges as that third
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: guy that he was supposed to be last year and
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: was towards the end of twenty twenty one. But I
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: still think that he's a good number three receiver in
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: a good offense. That is a complimentary piece more than
- 1:53:39Speaker 3: somebody that you're going to funnel things through. But I'm
- 1:53:42Speaker 3: not rolling out Kendrick Bourne getting back to where he was.
- 1:53:45Speaker 5: I know that there is nope.
- 1:53:47Speaker 3: I agree that's where I'm at.
- 1:53:49Speaker 5: The only thing I would say on the negative side
- 1:53:51Speaker 5: with Kendrick Bourne would be if like the two kids
- 1:53:55Speaker 5: that they took in the sixth round, Let's we talked
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: about a lot of ifs. You know, if this, if
- 1:53:59Speaker 5: that you the more, if you have the you know,
- 1:54:01Speaker 5: probably the work. But let let's just say those two
- 1:54:03Speaker 5: guys are home runs and they both work out. I
- 1:54:06Speaker 5: think Kendrick Bourne is a candidate to go in that
- 1:54:09Speaker 5: in that scenario, but I can absolutely see him getting
- 1:54:12Speaker 5: back to the way he was two years ago and
- 1:54:14Speaker 5: less like he was as an.
- 1:54:15Speaker 4: Afterthought contract year. Yeah.
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I just think that I think that his
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: ceiling is in anywhere near his high is a lot
- 1:54:26Speaker 5: of people that follow the Patriots like every game that
- 1:54:29Speaker 5: they lost last year is because Kendrick Bourne wasn't actively
- 1:54:32Speaker 5: involved in the game plan.
- 1:54:33Speaker 4: You know.
- 1:54:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that, Like I have the big Kendrick
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: Bourn highlight that I always go back to is the
- 1:54:37Speaker 3: touchdown against the Titans where it looked like he was
- 1:54:39Speaker 3: probably should have got tackled like six times, but like
- 1:54:42Speaker 3: somehow just made it down the sideline. And I think
- 1:54:45Speaker 3: that people look at that are like, oh, here's your
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: yards after catch. Guy, It's like no, I just I
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: just think that that play was kind of flukey.
- 1:54:53Speaker 4: Yeah. No, But I will.
- 1:54:55Speaker 5: Say that he you know, he can play, like he
- 1:54:59Speaker 5: has shown the ability to play in the NFL. I
- 1:55:01Speaker 5: just think that people think that, like Evan said, he's
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: like showing the ability to be Deebo.
- 1:55:06Speaker 4: Samuel in the NFL, and he's not like he's just.
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: Kind of that Bengals game last year when they finally
- 1:55:12Speaker 3: did let him play and he made those acrobatic catches
- 1:55:15Speaker 3: down the field. He can definitely be in a good offense, right,
- 1:55:20Speaker 3: a weapon in a good offense. I just don't know
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: what ring on the totem pole is he going to be? Right,
- 1:55:26Speaker 3: I don't think he's going to be a number one.
- 1:55:28Speaker 3: Maybe he's a number two if he really hits the potential,
- 1:55:31Speaker 3: but they still don't really necessarily have somebody above him.
- 1:55:35Speaker 4: It's like a bigger question for me. I'd love to
- 1:55:37Speaker 4: he never could ask Bill O'Brien this question, But you know,
- 1:55:41Speaker 4: just what is the process as an offensive coordinator when
- 1:55:43Speaker 4: you come into a new system and you say, all right,
- 1:55:45Speaker 4: here's the pieces that you have. We've got some draft picks,
- 1:55:48Speaker 4: we've got some free agency capital. You know, what do
- 1:55:50Speaker 4: you think we need to do with that to complement
- 1:55:52Speaker 4: what we have? You know, because I'm sure you arrive
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: places and you're like, I don't like this guy. I
- 1:55:56Speaker 4: can't use him in my offense, or oh this guy
- 1:55:58Speaker 4: can really do more my offense because of reasons xyz.
- 1:56:02Speaker 4: You know though, those are the things that what intrigues
- 1:56:04Speaker 4: him about the pieces that are in place, and you
- 1:56:06Speaker 4: know how much of an impact did he have on GASICKI,
- 1:56:10Speaker 4: you know, on Juju like those kind of moves. Was
- 1:56:13Speaker 4: that targeted because of Bill O'Brien? Was that just kind
- 1:56:15Speaker 4: of a general move of all right, well this is
- 1:56:17Speaker 4: you know, these are apple storage is we're going to
- 1:56:19Speaker 4: get you know, a little bit of an upgrade on Jacoby,
- 1:56:21Speaker 4: or this is a receiving tight end that you know,
- 1:56:23Speaker 4: we think can do more than you know, maybe that
- 1:56:25Speaker 4: kind of thing. But I just am interested how he
- 1:56:27Speaker 4: kind of views this and what he's planning on doing.
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: It's also just way wonky like because you don't know
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: how long he's going to be here for. I mean,
- 1:56:34Speaker 3: you think it might be a couple of years. But
- 1:56:36Speaker 3: I think to the point with mac Josh McDaniels is
- 1:56:39Speaker 3: his offensive coordinator his rookie season. Then McDaniels leaves and
- 1:56:42Speaker 3: goes to the Raiders, and here we are, right, so
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: do you go out and sign guys with Bill O'Brien's
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: system in mind, and then recognizing that if it goes
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: well here for Bill O'Brien, it's probably gonna get a
- 1:56:55Speaker 3: head job. Maybe not in the NFL, maybe back in college.
- 1:56:58Speaker 3: But at some point in the next two years, I
- 1:57:00Speaker 3: would think that somebody's gonna probably look at, oh, well,
- 1:57:03Speaker 3: he rebilitated mac Jones, and look at the Patriots offense
- 1:57:06Speaker 3: with that, you know, before him and then after him.
- 1:57:09Speaker 3: There's a clear difference, and now all of a sudden,
- 1:57:10Speaker 3: he's a head coach again.
- 1:57:11Speaker 4: Somewhere Yeah, Bill and Vista says, the Big Cahuna is
- 1:57:14Speaker 4: a hot chicken and cheese and peppers with jalapenos. Come on, Evan,
- 1:57:17Speaker 4: you need to study more.
- 1:57:18Speaker 3: I knew it was some sort of hot sandwich and
- 1:57:21Speaker 3: said chicken.
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, this is This is a good one from
- 1:57:26Speaker 4: David subject Paul Snark lives on. I've noticed that when
- 1:57:30Speaker 4: I'm reading a football take online or in real life,
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: I can immediately come up with a snarky Paul answer.
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: For example, I like him but not at fourteen, and
- 1:57:38Speaker 4: I immediately think, so you don't like him. I just
- 1:57:40Speaker 4: want to say, thanks for that, Paul. It's true to that.
- 1:57:44Speaker 4: Have you does that consistently happen throughout your life? You
- 1:57:46Speaker 4: get into people's heads and you.
- 1:57:48Speaker 5: Oh, I don't I hope not. I don't know, but
- 1:57:51Speaker 5: I don't know the answer to that.
- 1:57:54Speaker 4: Lots of Star Wars stuff, lots of PU T shirt
- 1:57:57Speaker 4: questions and uh oh and Sam, I'm from Kentucky ways
- 1:58:01Speaker 4: and he never got his T shirt.
- 1:58:02Speaker 17: Matt Millell, I'm getting through everybody's tea shirts that I
- 1:58:04Speaker 17: haven't sent out yet. If you haven't got a T shirt,
- 1:58:06Speaker 17: sent me in your address.
- 1:58:07Speaker 5: So just to let people know a little bit that, like,
- 1:58:10Speaker 5: there was someone in the organization who's recently left, and
- 1:58:14Speaker 5: she was heavily involved in the process of distributing uh stuff,
- 1:58:20Speaker 5: So we didn't really realize that. I think Mad is
- 1:58:24Speaker 5: now double. I'm playing ketchup, playing ketchup.
- 1:58:27Speaker 4: She just wasn't there. She's not there anymore, like ketchup.
- 1:58:31Speaker 4: All right, we're coming down the stretch here. But this
- 1:58:34Speaker 4: was funny. Our junior high school com petering out a
- 1:58:35Speaker 4: little bit here, like dang it, dang it, I didn't
- 1:58:38Speaker 4: want to. Our junior high school principal, in honor of
- 1:58:41Speaker 4: Star Wars rented a movie called Ice Pirates, full of
- 1:58:43Speaker 4: sexual innuendo and never forgotten space Hrpie. I just was
- 1:58:48Speaker 4: thinking of all the stupid spinoffs that they did, like
- 1:58:50Speaker 4: I remember, like Buckeroot Bonds, I like, you know, in
- 1:58:52Speaker 4: the eighties, like these movies it's like you're seeing now
- 1:58:54Speaker 4: with Marvel, you know, like everything like something's a hit
- 1:58:56Speaker 4: and then everybody's got to try to make like a
- 1:58:58Speaker 4: b kind of spinoff version, like all those Netflix movies
- 1:59:01Speaker 4: that are like the Rocking, like everyone has the rock
- 1:59:03Speaker 4: in them somehow everything and you could tell they shot
- 1:59:05Speaker 4: it in two different locations with a green screen. But
- 1:59:08Speaker 4: there's like these big actors and.
- 1:59:09Speaker 3: It's like that, you know, everything on Netflix. If something
- 1:59:12Speaker 3: goes viral on Netflix, this is, you know, great new
- 1:59:15Speaker 3: TV show and they're right there, there's like six different
- 1:59:18Speaker 3: versions of it. Or Netflix is getting the true crime
- 1:59:20Speaker 3: like category. Netflix just has ten true crime things every
- 1:59:25Speaker 3: week that's new, and it's like I like that one
- 1:59:27Speaker 3: true crime thing. But like, let's not get crazy murder shows.
- 1:59:30Speaker 4: Murder shows, they're all over the place.
- 1:59:32Speaker 5: I mean, there's so many movies that are like remakes
- 1:59:35Speaker 5: of old TV shows and it just feels like it's
- 1:59:37Speaker 5: nothing new. Feels like you and your ilk Mic, we've
- 1:59:40Speaker 5: got lacking the creativity.
- 1:59:41Speaker 4: Come on, Mike, no, I know that's and that's part
- 1:59:43Speaker 4: of the reason that was, you know, just annoying because
- 1:59:45Speaker 4: it's like, oh, this is an established, you know, identity,
- 1:59:49Speaker 4: this is an established property, like we can remake this
- 1:59:51Speaker 4: instead of you know, you have people trying to come
- 1:59:53Speaker 4: up with creative, clever, new ideas like you know, I
- 1:59:56Speaker 4: mean that's something like Game of Thrones, where it's like
- 1:59:58Speaker 4: this is established, you know what, you know what it is.
- 2:00:00Speaker 4: You've got to built in audience. But you know, if
- 2:00:02Speaker 4: somebody came in and tried to pitch you that fantasy show,
- 2:00:04Speaker 4: you'd be like that, you know much.
- 2:00:06Speaker 9: He was doubted and now he's a chosen one and
- 2:00:09Speaker 9: he's gonna do well, that's ever show. He's the chosen one.
- 2:00:11Speaker 4: Starting the rock all right, that's gonna do it for
- 2:00:14Speaker 4: us here on Thursday, Patriots on Filter. We'll continue next week.
- 2:00:16Speaker 4: More free agents will be available. We'll closing in on

- 2:00:23Speaker 4: coming weeks. But in the meantime, enjoy your weekend and
- 2:00:25Speaker 4: we will see you next week.
- 2:00:26Speaker 3: Catch twenty two is still coming.
