- 0:21All right, everybody, you're listening to Eagles postgame analysis here at the Philadelphia
- 0:24Sports Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the
- 0:28world, over ten and a half years strong, and this is our last
- 0:32Eagles postgame podcast show of the season. The Eagles losing in a disgraceful fashion
- 0:39down in Tampa Bay to the Buccaneers in this Super Wild Card Round by a
- 0:44score of thirty two to nine. Their season is over. The Philadelphia Eagles
- 0:49twenty twenty three twenty twenty four season is finally done. We're gonna be looking
- 0:54toward the offseason, but we're gonna talk about this terrible, terrible loss.
- 0:57I'm Jeff Warren and I'm here with my good body for our last Eagles postgame
- 1:02podcast show. You've heard him, you've heard our other buddy, Josh Schuster
- 1:04as well from Philadelphia Soccer now coming on every now and again as well.
- 1:08But here with us is the one and only Matt Rodgers from the honorable mentioned
- 1:12podcast. Matt, you have come on a number of times to do this
- 1:17Eagles postgame podcast show with me. First and foremost, thank you so much
- 1:22for your dedication to that during the course of yeah, I love it,
- 1:26man, I love coming on the Honorable Mention podcast with you as well.
- 1:29But always fun talking to you, Always fun talking about this team. But
- 1:34they stink. I mean they really stink, and they stunk it up again.
- 1:37And kind of coming into this game, I thought, okay, leading
- 1:41up to what we are hearing from the team this week, maybe there would
- 1:45have been some sort of some sort of something different. But the Eagles again
- 1:51not able to beat the Blitz. Matt. They haven't been able to beat
- 1:53the Blitz during the last third of the season, likely seeing the end of
- 1:57Brian Johnson as the offensive coordinator. Oh yeah, Philly, and it's just
- 2:01leaving ta Yeah. Absolutely, It's just it's just amazing to see how a
- 2:07stubbornness, a lack of being willing to alter the playbook. They said,
- 2:14you know, we're gonna come out be in the you know the same,
- 2:15We're gonna we're gonna be the the Eagles that y'all love to see. And
- 2:20it didn't happen at all. So themes from the game, Buddy, let's
- 2:24get into a few here. What do you think in here? Right off
- 2:27the bat, Well, I'll just say I mean, I've done I've done
- 2:30a good bit of coaching in my young life. And I said, and
- 2:34I'll say, you know, you know, no offense to the kids who
- 2:37may listen and go look to listen to this. They weren't all the best
- 2:40of athletes, right. So I've coached teams with players with deficiencies, and
- 2:49many a time you are able to make up for those deficiencies. I think,
- 2:53I think I want to first thing, jump into those those first two
- 2:59drives where the Eagles get it to a third and two on both drives,
- 3:02yep, and they throw the ball deep. Yes, it's just dumb.
- 3:07It's just bad football, especially with you know. I didn't go ahead,
- 3:12Jeff, No, No, I was gonna say. They threw the ball
- 3:14on third and two. Actually had a note about this no hot route.
- 3:16Once again. We have been ridiculous time and time again during the latter part
- 3:22of this season. Those third and twos that you talked about, both of
- 3:24them, no hot roots at all. Why are you throwing it deep?
- 3:29If you're gonna throw it, throw it in the middle of the field.
- 3:30Is somebody who's gonna with yak or something like that. This is ridiculous.
- 3:35Yes, and then you go for it on fourth and five. I was
- 3:38sitting down. I was telling my wife, we're watching the game together.
- 3:40She's after this. I told her to go. She could enjoy, you
- 3:44know, her sleep in the back of her eyelids, because the game was
- 3:46over. On fourth and five when the Eagles got that chance to run it
- 3:50again, I said, the Eagles are gonna be stupid here and they're gonna
- 3:53throw it in the end zone's gonna be incomplete and the game's gonna be over.
- 3:55And exactly like that, they do that. They are being the same
- 3:59old Eagles, but not the same old Eagles that we wanted to see that
- 4:01we're gonna stuff the ball down the opponent's throat. You were the same old
- 4:04Eagles with dumb ass play calls, dumb ass pass routes, just horrible.
- 4:10On the first third and two, you have Dallas Goddter and DeVante Smith within
- 4:15spinning distance of each other, and then it's you know, you see people
- 4:19saying, oh, that was a bad throw by Jalen Hurts, Like,
- 4:23you know, what's a good throw when you're throwing with two defenders in the
- 4:29same era. You had the same thing going on at the end. Whatever
- 4:30play call that Jalen and aj Brown said that they checked to that was also
- 4:36they can only check to the plays that Nick, you and Brian are putting
- 4:40in the damn playbook. And these are bad plays. These are just like
- 4:44draw it up. These are bad football plays like guys are not designed to
- 4:47get open. You know, I wanted to not come on here and rip
- 4:51Nick Sirianni today. I wanted to come on here and not rip Brian Johnson.
- 4:56But you look crazy anybody right now, there's no reason to even consider
- 5:02firing Nick Sirianni. That is, that is just you know, beyond hopium
- 5:09that even Matt Rodgers is uncomfortable with I even me who came into today saying,
- 5:15Jeff, I feel good about the game. I believe you know,
- 5:16Dak is gonna be able to steer the ship right to go and get the
- 5:19doors blown off the U nine to thirty two against a team that didn't even
- 5:25that barely made the playoffs. You have to have this conversation now. Absolutely,
- 5:30the Eagles had twenty six yards of offense in the first quarter. If
- 5:34you were gonna come onto that field Raymond James Stadium and you were going to
- 5:40you know, get back to the Eagles basics you're you're gonna that that that
- 5:43pound in the football that we all wanted, that we were all hoping for,
- 5:47It didn't happen. They had twenty six yards of offense in the first
- 5:51freaking quarter. The tush push didn't work before the half, Timpa Bay Buccaneers
- 5:58stopped it. Second time, they stopped at this little bit of a face
- 6:01mask. Yes, a little absolutely, absolutely, for sure, have to
- 6:05say that. But the fact of the matter is DeAndre Swift carried the ball
- 6:11four times for sixteen yards in the first half. It is egregious coaching.
- 6:17It is egregious offensive coaching by Brian Johnson. One of the reasons why he
- 6:23is not going to be the offensive coordinator in Philadelphia after this. You know,
- 6:27I mean, I'm gonna to be a Cowboys fan. They best round
- 6:30bring Brian Johnson back. Protest absolutely. Look also also really not, but
- 6:38I will make it hell for folks, That's what I will do. I
- 6:41was kidding there, just for your listeners. Well, look, well into
- 6:45the second half of the Eagles offense, they continued to go. It was
- 6:49amazing me. They continued to go into empty sets and the Buccaneers continued to
- 6:55send six or more to ensure a free runner, and the continue to have
- 7:00exactly zero answers for this. Continuing to have zero answers week after week after
- 7:08week. This is the wild card of the of the NFL playoffs. It's
- 7:13the exact same thing that happened against the Giants last week. I just don't
- 7:16understand how the offensive staff prepared for this game or what they even did in
- 7:20the film room. It's the exact same thing that we have seen over and
- 7:25over and over again. Although I do like how they did get the ball
- 7:29to Davante Smith over the middle of the field that was working in the second
- 7:31quarter. I enjoyed seeing a receiver catching the ball in the middle of the
- 7:35field instead of just down the sideline, you know. And then they ended
- 7:42up getting away from that as well. DeAndre Switt, I'm sorry DeVante Smith.
- 7:47And then the defensive line, believe it or not, are gonna be
- 7:51the they did. They're gonna be the only units that don't get an F
- 7:56For me, our grades are gonna be real quick, at least from my
- 7:59stand. Wait a little bit later here, Matt, but really, I
- 8:03mean, Devonte Smith fantastic on the day. Eight receptions for one hundred and
- 8:07forty eight yards eighteen point five yards per reception. And like I said,
- 8:11with regard to the defensive line, four sacks, we actually got four sacks
- 8:16in this game. I cannot believe we got four sacks in this game.
- 8:18We haven't seen four sacks in a while. It's been a long time.
- 8:22So I keep pontificating here and he in the lack of tackling, I mean
- 8:28from a defensive standpoint, man defensive standpoint, same crap with Matt Patricia,
- 8:33of course, but I really think that that side of the ball. I
- 8:35really do believe that they were trying to fight in the first half. But
- 8:41the lack of tackling Zach Cunningham big time. We saw it from him,
- 8:45We saw it from Bradley Roby, James Bradbury early in the first drive of
- 8:48the game, and then throughout the game subsequently, just the lack of tackling.
- 8:52We actually saw Eagles players in the secondary taking each other out of plays
- 8:56by running into each other, and we saw that on the Buccaneers first touchdown
- 9:01of the game. And it's just I'm just shaking my head here, man,
- 9:05I'm just shaking my head. Very predictable, though, very addictable ye
- 9:11in the spring, you know, after this season was over, I had
- 9:15you on Honorable Mention podcast and I was talking about how like a I don't
- 9:18know about Bradley, Like, I'm sure he's a nice guy. He's a
- 9:22very intelligent young man. I always want him to, you know, people
- 9:26be able to get their money. I'm like, James Bradberry was getting picked
- 9:30on in the playoffs last year. James Bradberry was already looking slow. Bad
- 9:33move, letting Marcus EPs go. Bad move. They got a three year
- 9:39contract. They got Bradbury and Sleigh. We're given a three year contract in
- 9:45the spring of twenty twenty three. Man, Matt, I just say to
- 9:48myself, what is going to happen here? Because these two gentlemen are not
- 9:52playing the position like they did in twenty twenty two and prior to that.
- 9:56It hurts my brain to think about what our corn situation, our outside cornerback
- 10:03situation is going to be looking like potentially next year. I mean, these
- 10:05two gentlemen may be coming back based on the contract and how he gave him
- 10:09last year. At the deadline, I was hearing that that the Eagles were
- 10:15making calls for certain out of Denver Broncos, who I believe is a top
- 10:18five corner in the league. That that's what's going to happen. I mean,
- 10:24how he always is trying to wheel and deal in Wow. I think
- 10:28this year, though, you know, how he's you know, under an
- 10:31amount of pressure. He hasn't been in since he won the Super Bowl,
- 10:33and I think that that's healthy for this team. I think there's a little
- 10:37bit too much worship going on and we really haven't done. You know,
- 10:41we talk a lot about the Cowboys about what have you guys done. I
- 10:45mean we still only cast one Super Bowl ring, and so you know,
- 10:50there was a lot of talk and a lot of you know, holding our
- 10:52chest up high, you know, walking into this season and thinking we can
- 10:54let good players like Marcus again, Marcus EEPs go, let Chauncey Gardner,
- 11:00Johnson Goye and just you know with bargain basement. Oh, because Howie's so
- 11:03smart, We're going to be able to just go and oh yeah, read
- 11:07Blankenship is going to be the next coming of Brian Dawkins. I never really
- 11:11saw that, you know, I think that he played well, he played
- 11:13above his talent and has. But I mean, even if we had read
- 11:18blankenship today, we weren't going to be shutting things down. I mean,
- 11:20it's just the reality is, this was a flawed football team that Jalen Hurts
- 11:26through eleven games, was able to will to eleven wins, and at a
- 11:28certain point the dan broke. And I really, I really do. I
- 11:35know that Jalen hurts at times and games is under a certain amount of pressure.
- 11:41And I mentioned I mentioned before we got on the show or before we
- 11:45hit the record button here, I mentioned his knee. I really do wonder
- 11:48how much his knee has been a problem this entire season in terms of his
- 11:52mobility. And you know, I was getting some tweets. I was actually
- 11:56yes on Twitter a bit tonight and I was actually getting some tweets about how
- 12:01Jalen is terrible, Jalen's awful. You gotta get rid of Jalen Hurts.
- 12:05I strongly disagree with that notion. This coaching staff, folks, did not
- 12:11put Jalen in a good position. The offensive line has folded over these past
- 12:16few weeks. They just have They were in f grade. For me after
- 12:22this playoff game, Jalen hurts, Jyla would have had to come out and
- 12:26throw five or six picks today for us for the conversation to even not be
- 12:31you know, ridiculous exactly. It's not just stupid, it's ridiculously stupid.
- 12:35So even and I'm thinking to myself, Man, this ain't Jalen. I
- 12:39mean, look, yeah, he's dumping a lot of balls off and unfortunately
- 12:43it's like it's like third and fifteen or third and twenty and screen passes are
- 12:48being called. How many screen passes were called in his freaking game, Matt
- 12:52where I'm sitting there thinking, my gosh, what are they? None of
- 12:56those guys like Dawkins. Brian Dawkins himself said it tonight. I mean,
- 13:01you're throwing these screen passes in the slot out into the flat and nobody,
- 13:07none of these guys. Name a guy who's gonna really make anybody miss.
- 13:11It's the only one exactly what I sees getting one of those. I'm like,
- 13:15my god, how many times do we have to see this play?
- 13:18We've all seen it coach nowhere. It's amazing how they just didn't make any
- 13:24sort of adjustments, alterations or changes to the offensive scheming. Coming again,
- 13:30they kind of and I really think that Jalen Hurts was driving a car with
- 13:33a governor on it this year. I think that the way that they they
- 13:39drew up this offense, they were holding him back. They were not making
- 13:41things easy. He still had a statistically good season. I go stack his
- 13:48numbers up against you know, he's a controversial figure in Philadelphia sports history,
- 13:52Donovan McNabb. Donovan McNabb, who was a very good player. Who is
- 13:56you know, even in my estimation, a little bit outside of the Hall
- 14:00of Fame, but still a very, very, very good player. Jalen
- 14:03Hurts. The stats this year are what franchise record in passing yards or damn
- 14:09near and touchdowns? I mean he broke Randalls. He broke Randall's record and
- 14:15touchdowns. So it's not Jalen Hurts, folks. You know, these coaches
- 14:18need to put these players in a position. It's the old Andy Reid adage.
- 14:22Got to put the players in a position to succeed. And this coaching
- 14:26staff has failed. I mean, when you talk about a coaching staff that
- 14:30has ultimately failed and doomed a team of talented individuals, not everybody is extremely
- 14:35talented, but doomed really talented individuals like they're better than the Bucks. Yeah,
- 14:41absolutely absolutely. This is a team talent wise that is better than the
- 14:46Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers absolutely kick their asses in this
- 14:52playoff game thirty two to nineteen or to nine. Sorry, I wish nineteen
- 14:56to thirty two to nine. So it just I don't know, buddy.
- 15:00Before we head into actually, I'm thinking this before we headed into the break
- 15:03really quick here, I'm thinking, maybe we just give some quick grades because
- 15:07I'm assuming you're gonna have some F grades and maybe a lot of them.
- 15:11I'm gonna have a ton of them, like I just said, So,
- 15:13I'm I'm wondering if we should just say this, let's give out some grades
- 15:18who don't give it or to the units that don't get an F. Like
- 15:22I said, I'm just I'm just Devonte Smith. He is his own grade
- 15:26of an A this week. Okay, I'm gonna give him an A this
- 15:31week. He's the only person on the offensive side of the ball that really
- 15:33stepped up in a way I gave the stats earlier. He with one hundred
- 15:39and forty eight yards on the day. He's the only offensive player that really
- 15:43really stepped I mean outside of like Jalen Hurts trying to do what he could.
- 15:46He ended with a rating of one hundred zero point nine actually twenty five
- 15:50to thirty five two hundred and fifty yards. Certainly wasn't the greatest day for
- 15:54him. He did throw a touchdown to Dallas Goddard. But I have to
- 15:58say that the defensive line two they actually get a B from me. I'm
- 16:03not gonna give him an F. Of course, Like I said, four
- 16:06sacks, the six quarterback hits, they're gonna get a B from me.
- 16:11So I don't know. Those are my grades. Everybody else gets an F.
- 16:14Everybody gonna I'm gonna give Jalen a B minus. Okay, Okay,
- 16:18I think that's fair. I'm gonna give it. I'm gonna give him a
- 16:21B mine. I think the sack and really I might be able to be
- 16:23talked into C plus because of that stupid sack that he took that turned into
- 16:30a safety, yea. But overall, I mean, I don't think Jalen
- 16:33threw us out of the He didn't throw us out of the game. He
- 16:36made a couple of very good throws. There were some pass interferences. There
- 16:41were a couple of instances with Quees Watkins not fighting for the ball. I'm
- 16:45in the range of A depends on the school districture. And you know if
- 16:49eighty one, if eighty one is a C plus in your school district or
- 16:52not? All right, sounds good? Sounds good? I mean, are
- 16:56there any other decent grades that you have out there? I mean, and
- 17:00Michael Clay, I'm going to give him in the special teams, I'm actually
- 17:03going to give them a B minus. Britain Covey with that fumble on the
- 17:07six yard line could have been absolutely disastrous. It wasn't Jake Elliott hitting his
- 17:11forty seven yard or grateful for him in the sixteen. He's sixteen for sixteen
- 17:18in the playoffs. Love Jake Elliott. It's going to be the kicker next
- 17:21year as well. But I mean, Michael Clay and special teams, I'm
- 17:23going to give them a be Siriani in, Matt Patricia get in, Brian
- 17:30Johnson, f's everywhere. So those are all my grades. Do you have
- 17:32any other grades? DeAndre Swift? DeAndre Swift the running backs, what do
- 17:37you think he carried the ball ten times thirty four yards? Of course,
- 17:41it's a three point four yards per carry. He did catch the ball four
- 17:47times for thirty two yards as well, eight yards per reception there with a
- 17:51long of eleven. I don't know what are you thinking there? All right?
- 17:56Plus I think it's fair, okay. I just weren't given a chance
- 18:00those guys, I mean, the game flow, the game plan, all
- 18:03of it was just dumb. Yeah, and so it just didn't It just
- 18:08didn't help them. I don't want to dig them too much because the game
- 18:11kind of got pushed into a direction where, you know, the Eagles have
- 18:18shown us, Sirianni has shown us he's only really going to commit to running
- 18:22the ball if he's got a lead. Yes, if if you put this
- 18:26Eagles team down seven points, three points, he may still run the ball.
- 18:30But if you put this Eagles team down seven points, Sirianni will abandon
- 18:34the run. It's like old Andy Reid. It is unbelievable that we are
- 18:38back in those days. I really thought they were going to run the ball
- 18:41more today. Like we said at the top of the show here, you
- 18:44know, we thought it was going to be a little something different. Week
- 18:45three against this Buccaneers team. They put up two hundred and one rushing yards
- 18:49against this Bucks team, Yes, the Bucks. In Week three, they
- 18:52had some injuries on that defensive line, but still I thought they were going
- 18:56to really try to ram it down their throats because they did he some bit
- 19:00of success earlier this season didn't happen, and it's pretty egregious to me.
- 19:04So do you have any other grades here before we get to the break?
- 19:07Buddy? No, No, we can go to break, all right,
- 19:11and everybody's for everybody else fantastic for fantastic, yeah, right for failure.
- 19:19Yes, all right, folks, quick break. We will be back in
- 19:23just a bit. All right, we are back, and again we're with
- 19:27Matt Rodgers from the honorable mentioned podcast. He is on threads at Politidope.
- 19:33He is a great, great follow. Give him a follow and listen to
- 19:37the Honorable mentioned podcast on Apple Podcasts or whatever podcast platform you're listening to us
- 19:41on. It is a great, great show, great guests all the time.
- 19:45And Matt, I really you know, we talked about the game,
- 19:48and we kind of just knew a lot of us were hoping. Of course
- 19:52we had the hope, but we knew what was going to really kind of
- 19:53end up happening, I think in the end, but I think everybody now
- 19:56is going to be like, Okay, what is going to be happening with
- 19:59this team? What's gonna be happening with this organization? Free agency is gonna
- 20:03be I think here before we know it. And the top free agents on
- 20:07this team are DeAndre Swift, Fletcher Cox, Brandon Graham, I believe it
- 20:11or not, Zach Cunningham, and Nick Morrow in the middle of the field,
- 20:15also backup quarterback in Marcus Mariota, Boston Scott, and Rashad Penny.
- 20:21In the offensive backfield, Lamade's a kaush Ques Watkins, Julio Jones. In
- 20:26terms of the wide receivers, you've got Albert Oh, I'm gonna botch his
- 20:30name because I'm not gonna be able to pronounce his name. Roberto. They
- 20:33never made us. They never made it. You know something that we had
- 20:37to learn because they never gave him a chance. Gave up a pick,
- 20:40I think a fifth round pick for him. I think it was fifth,
- 20:42fourth or fifth round. I think it was fifth round pick for him.
- 20:45Jack stall is the other tight end who is He's on a restricted He's a
- 20:49restricted free agent. And then we've got Roderick Johnson, offensive tackle Sua Opetta
- 20:56Sean Bradley, Bradley Roby, Josiah Scott, Justin Evans or Justin Evans.
- 21:00He was cut earlier this year, so I'm reading from a list obviously.
- 21:03And then Braiden Man and Rick Lovado, those are your free agents, folks.
- 21:08And I gotta say, Braiden Man and Rick Lovado exact I heard exactly.
- 21:15I do not think the rest of these folks are coming back. I
- 21:18really don't. I don't know. Part of me thinks that Brandon Graham could
- 21:21actually be coming back. Part of me thinks he. I would love it
- 21:23Brandon Graham comes back. Yes, his body language at the end of the
- 21:27game was much different than Jason Kelsey's. Absolutely, absolutely, And I think
- 21:33with Kelsey, I think this probably was his last year. That's what I
- 21:38That's what I'm thinking. I don't know why I'm getting that gut reaction.
- 21:42Think he came back this year thinking, okay, man, it was the
- 21:45Super Bowl. You know, this is a Super Bowl team. We're going
- 21:48to be running it back with a lot of the same folks. And unfortunately
- 21:52two of the important ones in the offensive coordinator Shane Steichen and believe it or
- 21:57not, Jonathan Gannon, who we all get crap to last year. They
- 22:02were a big piece of that puzzle or big pieces of that puzzle last year,
- 22:07Matt. So you know, it really goes to show that the coaching
- 22:11and how much of the coaching really really was a detriment the majority of this
- 22:15season. So I don't know that that's what we're looking at in terms of
- 22:18this offseason. Nine draft picks as well from what I last read, four
- 22:25in the top top three rounds, so I look at what and thirty two
- 22:30million dollars, by the way, already in cap space, So who knows
- 22:33what how he's going to do in terms of more cap space in the future.
- 22:37A lot of these guys are not going to be coming back. Who
- 22:40I just read first and foremost probably the coaches before we get into any sort
- 22:47of free agency. That's what I would think. Is that what you're thinking,
- 22:49Matt? Yeah, I Lee, Brian Johnson and Matt Patricia down in
- 22:56Tampa Bay. Let him pay for a bus, take it back, let
- 23:00him ride at the Greyhound. Right. Hey, y'all, y'all make your
- 23:06own way back exactly. Looks it's very real. Peace out brothers. But
- 23:15the coach is interested in Jonathan Allen Josh Allen from the from the Jaguars.
- 23:19Though, absolutely would be that would that could be something that would that would
- 23:22get me excited. Yes. Absolutely. The look the free agent quarterbacks,
- 23:29I mean they're obviously I mean, like a guy like Gardner Minshew, he's
- 23:33he's going to be a free agent this year. Maybe bring him back,
- 23:36who knows, Maybe sign Mariota, you know exactly, No, no,
- 23:41please, don't don't do it. But really I was glad we only had
- 23:45to saw We only had to see what we saw in that Giants game,
- 23:48and that was it. I was worried, you know, Jeff, I
- 23:51was worried about that all season. Yes, and that was the one cherry
- 23:55that I didn't have to watch Marcus Mario to throw a five pick game.
- 23:57Yes. So I look at this organization. I think they're gonna take care
- 24:03of the coaches first, whether Nick Sirianni does keep his job. I actually
- 24:06do think Nick Sirianni is gonna keep his job. I think he is gonna
- 24:08be the one coach in the NFL next season that is going to be on
- 24:12the hottest seat based on where he's gonna take new coordinators. And I think
- 24:18there's gonna be a new offensive coordinator, a new defensive coordinator. Those are
- 24:22just my thoughts, my predictions here, folks. I know absolutely nothing in
- 24:26terms of what's gonna happen. Nobody does. And and then with regard to
- 24:30free agency in the draft, we're gonna see how this team is rebuilt,
- 24:33because I think we're gonna see a much different team in twenty twenty four,
- 24:37twenty twenty five than we did this year. I really think that we are
- 24:44going to see a lot of different different folks. You know, running backs.
- 24:47Don't think DeAndre Swift is probably gonna be coming back. I don't think
- 24:51a lot of it never bring back exactly, a lot of these wide receivers
- 24:53probably not gonna be coming back. And you know, it's it's it's gonna
- 24:59be really interesting to see. Where do you think they should really focus their
- 25:02efforts in free agency in the draft? I personally think the trenches because we
- 25:07just saw absolutely them get absolutely trounced in the trenches over the past third of
- 25:12the season here, so I think it's got to be the trenches. You
- 25:17know, I haven't heard this a lot, so I'm definitely not copying this
- 25:19or getting this from anybody else. I haven't been incredibly impressed with Cam Jurgens.
- 25:23I gotta say here for this idea that he's the heir apparent at Jason
- 25:27Kelce. I'm calling bs on that I forget he wasn't even really holding it
- 25:33down at guard. Yeah, I'm sorry, I forget who I'm forgetting off
- 25:37the top of my head. It was earlier this season and I was saying
- 25:42whether or not Cam Jurgens was actually going to be the guy because there was
- 25:47somebody else during training camp that was competing for that right guard spot. It
- 25:51might have been Tyler Steen. Actually he may have been have been in there
- 25:53as well. Tyler Steen was playing pretty well. Yeah, and number fifty
- 25:59six. And the person was like, a, I may have to tell
- 26:02uh, may have to tell Cam Jurgens a pst over here saying he may
- 26:06not be that great of a starter. And now I'm thinking of that conversation,
- 26:10and I'm like, you know what decent amount of holding penalties and somebody
- 26:15who who's past blocking and pass pro was not very good and he was the
- 26:19He was the detriment on the Eagles offensive line for sure this year. And
- 26:25you can hear in AJ Brown's great quote where he it's, you know,
- 26:32somebody messing up and not doing their thing. I think we're gonna hear,
- 26:36you know, however, the shoes fall or drop with aj Brown, I
- 26:40think we're gonna start seeing Cam Jurgens get thrown under the bus a little bit.
- 26:44I think when you watch the film study, he's off by a couple
- 26:48feet. He's he's making mistakes. He's not, you know, pancaking guys.
- 26:53I mean, it's amazing to say, but Saya Malo was significantly better
- 27:00than Camdell my gosh, yes, absolutely absolutely he was. He was one
- 27:04of the most underrated offensive linemen I think of the NFL for a number of
- 27:08years. Yes, yeah, yes, I don't know. I also I
- 27:12think they build in the in the trenches. Oh ahead, I was gonna
- 27:15say they're gonna build in the trenches as we're as we're saying here, And
- 27:18I really do think, and I think it's gonna be a a conversation that
- 27:23goes nowhere. But a number of folks are going to have this conversation the
- 27:27linebacker position and what is going to happen in the middle of the field because
- 27:32teams continually other teams offenses continually kicked the crap out of the Eagles in the
- 27:38middle of the field because the linebackers just aren't that good. Nakobe Dean,
- 27:44who I know, you are extremely disappointed. I know he's been injured.
- 27:48You know he's been on ir now how many times, part of football exactly
- 27:52part of football. That was part of his scouting. Yep, folks,
- 27:55that he was undersized and he would be able to be getting injured like this.
- 27:59So yep, you know it's not just like some freak accident. I
- 28:02mean, maybe he's just too small to play the position he's trying to play.
- 28:04Yes, absolutely, So the middle of the field is a big,
- 28:08big concern for me when it comes to this Eagles defense, and I think
- 28:12they either need to get a decent free agent linebacker. I'm not talking about
- 28:18Nick Morrow and Zach Cunningham here, folks, I'm not talking about them.
- 28:22I'm talking about a guy who is really going to be a difference maker,
- 28:26is gonna understand the blitz. But that's the thing here. We need to
- 28:29know who these coaches are. We need to know who the new coaches are
- 28:32going to be before we can start talking about players. Because certain certain traits
- 28:36that a player has needs to be able to fit with what the actual coach
- 28:38wants to do. So but those are my big you random, random six
- 28:45year old flag football coach. Hey, you're perfectly qualified to coach. We
- 28:52need one thing from you, mister Smith. Yes, you see this guy
- 28:55number seven, We're paying him to rush the pass there, so let's let
- 28:59him him do that. Yes, he doesn't need to be in coverage.
- 29:03He does not. Oh, Matt, we are going to be running out
- 29:10of time here, buddy, in just a few minutes. But yeah,
- 29:12but really, as we sum up this season, of course, probably the
- 29:17most disappointing Philadelphia Eagles season that US fans have had to endure. It wasn't
- 29:22all horrible. It wasn't it wasn't all terrible horrible. They beat the Buffalo
- 29:26Bills, they beat the Kansas City Chiefs. Yes, that's when things were
- 29:30really starting to teeter. But they were wins, and it was interesting to
- 29:34see those wins, for sure. But the most disappointing Eagle season I think
- 29:41of all time that I can remember, having watched this team since I was
- 29:45three years old. I will remember the very first time I ever saw in
- 29:48Eagles uniform. It was in nineteen eighty when my dad was watching the Super
- 29:52Bowl, and I actually remember that it was one of my first memories as
- 29:56a kid. And since then, this has to be one of the most
- 30:00disappointing seasons that I can ever remember. And the thing, and the really
- 30:04disappointing thing is and I and I preview this one here, is they're they're
- 30:10in the same kind of position that the Philadelphia Phillies are in, where we're
- 30:15at a point now where okay, say this Eagles team goes ten and one
- 30:18again, eleven and one and thirteen and two or something next year. Okay,
- 30:22when's the bottom gonna fall out? Same thing with the Phillies. It's
- 30:26like, you guys have made it now to the to the NLCS. You
- 30:30guys made it to the World Series. When's the choke coming? We are
- 30:33like feeling real cowboys right now. I gotta be honest, I got the
- 30:37accountability. This is some cowboys shit that we're doing. Yes, it is,
- 30:42It absolutely is. And look, even though this Eagles team lost and
- 30:48got their asses kicked, it was still great to see the Cowboys completely unplode
- 30:52the way they did against the Packers. Fully shit, they join us on
- 30:56the couch. Yes, yes, yes, exactly. Oh my gosh,
- 31:00I was. I was actually watching videos today on TikTok of Cowboys fans losing
- 31:07their minds as they were as the game was just slipping away from them,
- 31:10and it was some of the greatest content that I have seen all season.
- 31:15And I do think that our fans will be better behave, which is against
- 31:19counter counter to the narrative. I think you will see a lot of Eagles
- 31:23fans who are pissed with the coaching, but I don't think you'll see the
- 31:26kind of meltdowns that you saw. We'll see. I absolutely agree, I
- 31:32absolutely agree. So buddy, do you have any final thoughts before I let
- 31:37you go and before we end this final Eagles postgame podcast? Yeah? Please?
- 31:42Please next season, let Hassan Reddick rush the passer. I just never
- 31:47want to see it again. Guys that can we just let him do that?
- 31:49Please? He's good at it, folks, he's good at it.
- 31:52Coaches, I shouldn't say folks, he's coaches. He's good at it,
- 31:56good, good at everybody, but the Eagles coaches know that. Yes,
- 32:00he's good at a skill. Let him do the skill seems simple to me.
- 32:04I don't know. Seems simple to me. Then again, I'm not
- 32:06a coach again. Matt Rodgers. Yes, Matt Rogers from the honorable mentioned
- 32:12podcast, Buddy, it was great doing all those postgame shows with you throughout
- 32:15the course of this season, and hope to have you back on the show
- 32:21down the road we can talk some Sixers and Phillies for sure, would love
- 32:23to have you back. Man. All right, all right, thank you,
