- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed
- 0:06to kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:08I'm your host, Andy McGivern for November 8th.
- 0:11Today is National Cappuccino Day, celebrating that perfect
- 0:15marriage of espresso, steamed milk, and foam.
- 0:19The cappuccino gets its name from the Capuchin monks, whose
- 0:24brown robes resembled the drinks color.
- 0:27It became popular in Italy in the early 1900s, when espresso
- 0:31machines could finally create the right texture of foam milk.
- 0:36That velvety microphone on top, That's what makes a cappuccino A
- 0:41cappuccino. The traditional ratio is a 1/3
- 0:44espresso, 1/3 steamed milk, 1/3 foam.
- 0:48It's about balance. Strong but not overpowering.
- 0:54Creamy but not heavy. Complex yet comforting.
- 1:01And that brings us to today's quote.
- 1:03Writer Gertrude Stain captured coffee's deeper meaning when she
- 1:08said coffee is a lot more than just a drink.
- 1:13It's something happening. They understood that coffee,
- 1:18especially a well crafted cappuccino, creates moments.
- 1:25Think about it. When you order a cappuccino, you
- 1:27don't gulp it down. You sit.
- 1:31You pause. You watch the barista crafted,
- 1:35you admire the latte art. You feel the warmth of the cup
- 1:40in your hands. You take that first sip and
- 1:43actually taste it. A cappuccino demands presents.
- 1:49It's too hot to rush, too beautiful to ignore, too
- 1:53carefully made to take it for granted.
- 1:56That's what Stein means by something happening.
- 1:59It's a ritual, a conversation starter, a reason to slow down.
- 2:05It transforms a coffee break from a caffeine delivery system
- 2:09into an experience. I've had a love hate
- 2:12relationship with coffee over the years.
- 2:15Back in the day, coffee was villainized in a lot of ways.
- 2:20People said it was bad for you, that it caused cancer.
- 2:24It was essentially like drinking a cigarette.
- 2:28And I was a coffee drinker back then.
- 2:30But I decided to quit. I did for two years, and I
- 2:35started drinking it again. And a few years later I quit
- 2:38again for another length of time.
- 2:41Now, I've been drinking coffee every morning for years once
- 2:44again, but this time, the vast majority of the scientific
- 2:49evidence suggests that when you drink coffee, something really
- 2:53is happening inside you. And it is.
- 2:56Good coffee consumption reduces all 'cause mortality, reduces
- 3:02the risk of several cancers, improves cardiovascular health,
- 3:07reduces dementia and Alzheimer's risk, and much, much more.
- 3:13Today, don't just drink coffee. Let coffee be something
- 3:19happening. Order the cappuccino.
- 3:22Sit down while you drink it. Put your phone in your pocket.
- 3:26Watch the foam, slowly blend with the espresso, Feel the
- 3:31warmth, Paste each sip. Give yourself 5 minutes where
- 3:37the only thing happening is coffee.
- 3:39That's not wasted time, that's sanity maintenance.
- 3:45Because Gertrude Stein was right, Coffee is something
- 3:48happening, Let it happen. Coffee.
- 3:53Or hell, that's going to do it. For today, I'm Andrew McGivern,
- 3:58signing off for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 4:04Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
