- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Welcome to Disgraceland, the after Party.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode, a little thing we
- 0:31Speaker 1: like to call the after party. This is the show
- 0:34Speaker 1: after the show, the party after the party, the bridge
- 0:37Speaker 1: to get you from one full episode of Disgraceland to
- 0:39Speaker 1: the other, the backyard to dig into the dirt. On
- 0:42Speaker 1: this bonus episode, we are talking about rock and roll myths,
- 0:46Speaker 1: some incredibly salacious ones and calling bs and hell yeah,
- 0:50Speaker 1: we get into this week's subjects of our full episode.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Elvis Presley and Johnny Ace get into a little jay
- 0:55Speaker 1: Z update, talk Taylor and Beyonce. In the bonus section,
- 0:58Speaker 1: discuss your favorite Christmas songs and rock and roll myths
- 1:01Speaker 1: as we of course dive into your voicemails, text and more,
- 1:04Speaker 1: and as always, a whole lot of rosie. All right,
- 1:07Speaker 1: disc goes, Let's get into it. Mama Cass from the
- 1:19Speaker 1: Mamas and the Papas dying from choking on a ham sandwich.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Michael Hutchins from in Excess, dying from auto asphyxiation, Paul
- 1:26Speaker 1: McCartney killed in a car crash, Robert Johnson selling his
- 1:29Speaker 1: soul to the devil. Jim Morrison is the Zodiac killer,
- 1:33Speaker 1: Rod Stewart having to have his stomach pumped, Stevie Nixon
- 1:36Speaker 1: the cocaine enema, Alice Cooper biting the head off a
- 1:39Speaker 1: chicken on stage, Led Zeppelin in the Mudshark thing. I'll
- 1:43Speaker 1: get into the details on that in a minute. Johnny
- 1:45Speaker 1: Ace dying by his own hand playing Russian Roulette on Christmas.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Elvis is still alive. I saw him yesterday down at
- 1:52Speaker 1: the Pigley Wiggly buying scratch tickets and a donnut. Okay,
- 1:55Speaker 1: we've covered in one way or another most of these
- 1:59Speaker 1: myths Disgraceland. I added a couple new ones to keep
- 2:02Speaker 1: it fresh, and I'm bringing them up this week because
- 2:05Speaker 1: obviously we get into the incredible myth of R and
- 2:08Speaker 1: B singer Johnny Ace, who it is widely believed died
- 2:11Speaker 1: from playing Russian Roulette on Christmas Day in nineteen fifty four.
- 2:14Speaker 1: As I just mentioned, I love this story for many reasons,
- 2:18Speaker 1: mainly because though that I went into the research thinking
- 2:21Speaker 1: that this myth was true. Now not to spoil the
- 2:24Speaker 1: episode for those who haven't heard it yet. But well,
- 2:27Speaker 1: that ain't what happened. What actually happened, though, is way
- 2:30Speaker 1: more interesting, and just like the truth that bus all
- 2:34Speaker 1: of these myths that I've mentioned, the myths that get
- 2:38Speaker 1: us into the door at the kernel of truth within
- 2:41Speaker 1: the myth attracts us to these stories. Did Mama Cass
- 2:45Speaker 1: die from eating a ham sandwich? No? But does she
- 2:49Speaker 1: look like she could have? Well, yeah, she kind of does.
- 2:51Speaker 1: And the reality of that sucks. It's wrapped up in
- 2:54Speaker 1: all kinds of judgment and fat shaming and more. But
- 2:56Speaker 1: the truth is that Cass Elliott was a profoundly unhealthy
- 2:59Speaker 1: woman who took way too many drugs and drank way
- 3:02Speaker 1: too much alcohol in it all caught up to her.
- 3:05Speaker 1: But again, she looks like a ham sandwich could have
- 3:08Speaker 1: done her in, and we ask ourselves why that is.
- 3:12Speaker 1: We then dive into her backstory and voila, we gain
- 3:15Speaker 1: entry into an incredible story, a story we didn't know existed,
- 3:19Speaker 1: A story that goes way beyond the trite sixties drug
- 3:22Speaker 1: and alcohol indulgence and into international drug trafficking, into not
- 3:27Speaker 1: only a myth busting story, but a history busting story
- 3:30Speaker 1: of what actually happened the night Mama Cass's best friend
- 3:34Speaker 1: Sharon Tate was murdered by the Manson family. And for me,
- 3:38Speaker 1: all of that because the myth got me into the door.
- 3:41Speaker 1: How Michael Hutchinson die from sexual auto asphyxiation? But look
- 3:45Speaker 1: at that adonis of a man. Yeah, sure, I get it.
- 3:47Speaker 1: He could no longer be satisfied he'd had every beautiful
- 3:50Speaker 1: woman on the planet. Auto asphyxiation makes sense, But nuh suicide? Why?
- 3:56Speaker 1: Well again, the why is super interesting, And now we've
- 3:59Speaker 1: gotten ourselves into another incredible story. Paul McCartney dead in
- 4:02Speaker 1: a car crash. Nope, didn't happen. But the story of
- 4:05Speaker 1: how that ridiculous myth took root and captivated most of
- 4:09Speaker 1: Western culture. That's interesting. Man, Robert Johnson selling his soul
- 4:13Speaker 1: to the devil. I don't think so. I think Robert
- 4:15Speaker 1: Johnson was the devil. Wait, let's see see see, Now
- 4:18Speaker 1: I get your attention. So let's learn more about this
- 4:20Speaker 1: Robert Johnson guy. And there's a disgrace Land episode for that.
- 4:23Speaker 1: For all these stories, actually, well most Jim Morrison is
- 4:27Speaker 1: the Zodiac killer, all right. I started that one. Rod
- 4:31Speaker 1: Stewart in the stomach pump. Okay, this one there's no
- 4:33Speaker 1: episode for. And we're gonna get into this one in
- 4:35Speaker 1: more detail on the next block, when we get into
- 4:37Speaker 1: your voicemails and texts. Stevie Nicks and the Cocaine Enema,
- 4:41Speaker 1: this one I believe. As outrageous as it is, I
- 4:46Speaker 1: believe it. I don't care if it makes me sound
- 4:49Speaker 1: like a looney go read Stevie's denial of this story.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Thin Ti n for Nicks had her rodies blow Pablo's
- 4:58Speaker 1: powder up her backside because her nasal cavity was so
- 5:01Speaker 1: damaged she can no longer snort the drug that she
- 5:03Speaker 1: was highly addicted to. I mean, honestly, this isn't even
- 5:06Speaker 1: that debaucherous. When you measure it on a scale of
- 5:08Speaker 1: one to Caligula, it barely even approaches Diddy. Stevie Nicks
- 5:12Speaker 1: in the Cocaine Enema. I'm believing this one. Also, great
- 5:15Speaker 1: band name, you can have that one. Stevie Nicks in
- 5:17Speaker 1: the cocaine Etema. Alice Cooper biting the head off of
- 5:19Speaker 1: a chicken on stage. Not true and not original. This
- 5:23Speaker 1: is too close to the story of Ozzy Osbourne butting
- 5:26Speaker 1: the head off the dove, which is true. Can't Alice
- 5:29Speaker 1: Cooper get his own goddamn myth? Did the Alice thing?
- 5:32Speaker 1: Now that I think about it, did the Alice thing
- 5:33Speaker 1: come come about first? I think it did. Should I
- 5:36Speaker 1: do an episode on Alice Cooper? This is one of
- 5:38Speaker 1: the myths where the story behind it isn't that compelling
- 5:41Speaker 1: to me. I don't know. Maybe it is. I guess
- 5:43Speaker 1: I'm interested in how Alice Cooper managed his image, maybe
- 5:46Speaker 1: who he was on stage versus who he was off stage.
- 5:49Speaker 1: I think there's an early Zappa connection there, Todd Rundgren,
- 5:53Speaker 1: then golfing with George Burns and finding Jesus. Not very
- 5:56Speaker 1: rock and roll, but interesting, I guess, and I'm sure
- 5:58Speaker 1: there's some stuff there that's going to make me want
- 6:00Speaker 1: to dive further here. Let me know what you guys
- 6:03Speaker 1: think on Alice Cooper and whether or not I should
- 6:05Speaker 1: do an episode on him. Now led Zeppelin in the
- 6:08Speaker 1: mud Shark. This story is so wild that I only
- 6:12Speaker 1: alluded to it in the Zeppelin episode. I guess I'm
- 6:15Speaker 1: more than alluded to it, but I didn't indulge myself
- 6:18Speaker 1: in the storytelling around this incident, as I've done with
- 6:22Speaker 1: some of these other myths because this one is so
- 6:24Speaker 1: messed up, and fuck it. We're going to talk about
- 6:26Speaker 1: the Rod Steward thing later, so I guess I can
- 6:28Speaker 1: say what this one is. For the uninitiated. The story
- 6:31Speaker 1: of led Zeppelin and the mud Shark. Led Zeplin supposedly
- 6:34Speaker 1: used a mud shark to I don't even know how
- 6:36Speaker 1: to say this, to have sex with a woman, to
- 6:38Speaker 1: penetrate a woman a groupie. I'm realizing that the reason
- 6:42Speaker 1: I didn't go full on with the story of the
- 6:43Speaker 1: episode is because I actually believe that it happened, and
- 6:47Speaker 1: the fact that I think it's real makes it actually
- 6:50Speaker 1: offensive to me. Anyways, the story has been amended by
- 6:54Speaker 1: history to claim that it wasn't a shark, that it
- 6:56Speaker 1: wasn't a mud shark, but it was a much smaller fish.
- 7:00Speaker 1: I think the last thing I read was it was
- 7:01Speaker 1: a snapper or something like that, which again only makes
- 7:04Speaker 1: this more believable to me. This one's fucked. The story's disgusting.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Another music myth, jay z is a good guy. How's
- 7:14Speaker 1: that for a transition? Obviously that I'll be back up. Obviously, though,
- 7:18Speaker 1: we're talking about the music myths because that was the
- 7:20Speaker 1: question of the week, which music myths do you guys love?
- 7:23Speaker 1: And I heard a little bit from you guys on
- 7:24Speaker 1: a lot of these topics, and we're going to get
- 7:27Speaker 1: into the more when your voicemails and your text later on,
- 7:31Speaker 1: but I wanted to just touch on how many of
- 7:32Speaker 1: these we've actually covered in Disgracelane and some that we haven't.
- 7:36Speaker 1: And this isn't really my foray. I'm not really into
- 7:39Speaker 1: the myth side of things. I'm more into the true
- 7:41Speaker 1: crime side of things. But i want to know from
- 7:44Speaker 1: you guys what I'm missing here, and if anything, get
- 7:46Speaker 1: in touch and we could talk about it like we are.
- 7:48Speaker 1: The Alice Cooper thing as being a potential episode. But
- 7:51Speaker 1: back to jay Z okay, the music myth of jay
- 7:55Speaker 1: Z being a good guy. I was fifty to fifty
- 7:58Speaker 1: last week on whether or not I thought that jay
- 7:59Speaker 1: Z was guilty of the rape allegations being levied against them.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Those odds have slipped slightly based on last week's events.
- 8:07Speaker 1: I'm now probably forty five fifty five tilting toward thinking
- 8:11Speaker 1: that jay is actually guilty of what is being alleged
- 8:17Speaker 1: the crimes he is alleged to have committed. I'm not
- 8:21Speaker 1: going to dive fully into why, because not a lot
- 8:23Speaker 1: of news is broken in the past week on the
- 8:25Speaker 1: jay Z side of this story. If you're a law
- 8:28Speaker 1: and order nerd, I'm sure you feel like plenty has happened,
- 8:31Speaker 1: but I don't think so. I just don't want to
- 8:34Speaker 1: be rehashing lawyers going back and forth in the media.
- 8:37Speaker 1: One thing worth noting, though we did see the alleged
- 8:38Speaker 1: victims speak to NBC, there are inconsistencies in her story,
- 8:43Speaker 1: and we've seen jay Z and his lawyer double and
- 8:45Speaker 1: triple down on the aggressiveness of their denial. They formally
- 8:49Speaker 1: moved to have the case dismissed. Okay. We've seen Tony Buzby,
- 8:52Speaker 1: the larger than the life Texas attorney who's bringing the
- 8:54Speaker 1: case against jay Z, dig in. Okay, Buzzby's not giving
- 8:58Speaker 1: an inch. So unless we're following every legal breadcrumb here,
- 9:03Speaker 1: there's not much to talk about. Jay's tactics have been
- 9:09Speaker 1: able to hold the line with public opinions so far. Okay,
- 9:13Speaker 1: the NFL is still backing him. There seems to be
- 9:16Speaker 1: a wall of support online from fans and friendlies in
- 9:20Speaker 1: the press in the face of these allegations, the bleeding
- 9:25Speaker 1: has been stifled for the moment, at least as it
- 9:28Speaker 1: pertains to public relations. So if things are pretty much
- 9:32Speaker 1: status quo, why do I now think jay Z is
- 9:37Speaker 1: more likely to be guilty of these alleged crimes than
- 9:41Speaker 1: he is likely to be innocent. Why is my opinion
- 9:44Speaker 1: on this changed over the last week. Because here's why.
- 9:49Speaker 1: I think it's less likely that Tony Busby is an
- 9:53Speaker 1: ignorant fool than it is that jay Z was the
- 9:58Speaker 1: Raypee creep that there alleging he was twenty four years ago.
- 10:02Speaker 1: That's just my gun. Okay. For Tony Busby to pursue
- 10:05Speaker 1: this case in the first place and to then double
- 10:08Speaker 1: down after the fierceness of jay Z in his legal
- 10:12Speaker 1: team's response, Tony Busby would have to be operating from
- 10:16Speaker 1: a point of stupendous hubris and idiocy. And I just
- 10:21Speaker 1: don't think the guy is that dumb. He's already worth
- 10:25Speaker 1: fifty million dollars, so he doesn't need money. He has
- 10:28Speaker 1: government contracts with the State of Texas, Okay, he's so
- 10:32Speaker 1: he's got work. It's my point. He also has a
- 10:35Speaker 1: reputation to uphold. You shoot at the king and you miss. Eh,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you shoot at the king and you miss with an
- 10:43Speaker 1: unloaded gun. It's just too dumb. I could be wrong,
- 10:49Speaker 1: but I don't think that's who Buzzby is. And I
- 10:52Speaker 1: think his claim that he has evidence is more believable
- 10:55Speaker 1: than Jay's claim that he's totally innocent. I could be wrong, Okay,
- 10:59Speaker 1: I want to stress that, but given the facts that
- 11:01Speaker 1: are on the table right now, at this moment, that
- 11:04Speaker 1: is where I am at Now. I'm not saying Jay
- 11:08Speaker 1: z is guilty. I'm just saying I'm slightly on one
- 11:12Speaker 1: side of the seesaw then the other. And I should
- 11:15Speaker 1: also say that if new evidence comes to light, and
- 11:17Speaker 1: I'm sure it will, I reserve the right to change
- 11:19Speaker 1: my mind based on new facts. Okay, But as of
- 11:22Speaker 1: right now, this is just what my gut is telling me.
- 11:24Speaker 1: It's slightly more likely to me that Jay's guilty as alleged.
- 11:30Speaker 1: We get more details, we get more importantly, we get
- 11:33Speaker 1: more interesting details on this case, and I guess broadly
- 11:36Speaker 1: on the Sean Combs case. I will have them for
- 11:39Speaker 1: you here in the after party. Before we get to
- 11:41Speaker 1: the rest of today's after party, though, I just want
- 11:43Speaker 1: to mention our rewind episode is going to pop up
- 11:46Speaker 1: on your feed the day after you hear this bonus episode,
- 11:48Speaker 1: and that rewind episode is another Christmas themed story, this
- 11:53Speaker 1: one on the incredible country singer Merle Haggard. So check
- 11:56Speaker 1: that out, okay for all your honky tonk Christmas vibes.
- 11:59Speaker 1: And even if you don't know who Merle is, you're
- 12:00Speaker 1: gonna want to hear this story. Merle is one of
- 12:02Speaker 1: the best to ever do it all right? Okay? Following Merle,
- 12:06Speaker 1: next week's episode another story that takes place around Christmas.
- 12:09Speaker 1: It's on Larger than Life Life of the Party Chris Farley.
- 12:13Speaker 1: So when you're listening to this episode, you're no doubt
- 12:16Speaker 1: going to be thinking of SNL and the SNL cast
- 12:18Speaker 1: that you love growing up. Let me know six one seven,
- 12:21Speaker 1: nine oh six six sixty three eight. Which SNL performer
- 12:24Speaker 1: is your fave and from which era? Which SNL performer
- 12:28Speaker 1: from which cast made you and your friends laugh the hardest?
- 12:31Speaker 1: Hit me up at Grace laind pod on the Socials
- 12:33Speaker 1: six one seven nine oh six six sixty three eight.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Voicemail and text. I will be back in a flash
- 12:38Speaker 1: with your voicemails and text. All right, We're gonna get
- 12:58Speaker 1: to your texting voicemails in a second, but I want
- 13:00Speaker 1: to talk to you guys real quick about something. As
- 13:02Speaker 1: I just mentioned before the break, hit me up with
- 13:04Speaker 1: your answers question of the Week on SNL. But I'm
- 13:06Speaker 1: also looking for something else from you guys this week.
- 13:09Speaker 1: I want to know what's your story? Okay. I want
- 13:12Speaker 1: to hear from you guys on any story related to
- 13:15Speaker 1: rock and roll that you want to tell. It can
- 13:18Speaker 1: be a story that happened to you at a concert
- 13:19Speaker 1: or a show, or just listening to music. It can
- 13:22Speaker 1: be a story about an artist that you heard about
- 13:25Speaker 1: that I don't know about, okay, but he screwed that.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Don't worry about the story being unique or something that
- 13:32Speaker 1: I or others have heard. It can be any story
- 13:34Speaker 1: of rock and roll animalism that you love. It can
- 13:37Speaker 1: be a story, like I said, you've already heard in
- 13:39Speaker 1: Disgraceland that you keep going back to, that you shared
- 13:42Speaker 1: with others, a story that you and your friends can't
- 13:44Speaker 1: stop thinking about that you talk about often. All Right,
- 13:46Speaker 1: I'm serious about this idea of preserving the true spirit
- 13:49Speaker 1: of rock and roll that we talked about in a
- 13:51Speaker 1: few of these previous bonus episodes to do. So you guys,
- 13:56Speaker 1: you got to help me out. Disco's got to help
- 13:58Speaker 1: all right, Send your rock and roll, animal story, any story,
- 14:01Speaker 1: send it into me. I'm gonna start cataloging them. I'm
- 14:03Speaker 1: gonna start talking about them more here in the after
- 14:06Speaker 1: party with you guys directly. I'm gonna start featuring you
- 14:09Speaker 1: and your stories every week in videos on social. So
- 14:12Speaker 1: give me a little bit about yourself as well. Who
- 14:14Speaker 1: you are, what your name is, where you're from, how
- 14:15Speaker 1: long you've been listening to Disgraceland, and anyone you want
- 14:19Speaker 1: me to shout out when when I feature you and
- 14:21Speaker 1: your story. Okay, the guys down at the job site,
- 14:23Speaker 1: the girls in your office on your shift with you,
- 14:26Speaker 1: your cat, your dog, your brother, your sister, whoever. I'll
- 14:29Speaker 1: pick one story. I'll pick one story and feature it
- 14:32Speaker 1: in a video on social and I get to use
- 14:34Speaker 1: my Carl Castle voice. This week's story of the week
- 14:36Speaker 1: comes from deb in the two to one too, And
- 14:38Speaker 1: then I'm gonna read your story in a bit about you,
- 14:41Speaker 1: maybe putting some visuals to the video, and then we'll,
- 14:45Speaker 1: you know, we'll talk about some of the other stories
- 14:46Speaker 1: here in the after party as well, like this whole
- 14:48Speaker 1: process is gonna be us sort of maintaining, preserving the
- 14:53Speaker 1: true spirit of rock and roll. I don't know exactly
- 14:56Speaker 1: what this is going to turn into, but it's it's
- 14:59Speaker 1: it's all about us together, preserving these stories beyond the podcast,
- 15:03Speaker 1: and at a minimum, this project will give us the
- 15:05Speaker 1: opportunity to start talking more about these wild tales here
- 15:08Speaker 1: in the after party and on social every week when
- 15:11Speaker 1: I pick one of you and feature your story. So
- 15:15Speaker 1: the Kinks they had the Village Green Preservation Society. This
- 15:18Speaker 1: is something like the Disgraceland rock and Roll Preservation Society,
- 15:21Speaker 1: the Disco rock and Roll Preservation Society, something like that.
- 15:24Speaker 1: So hit me with your stories, any story, any rock
- 15:27Speaker 1: and roll animal story you got six one seven, nine
- 15:31Speaker 1: oh six, six sixty three eight voicemail texts at Disgrace
- 15:34Speaker 1: LAMDPOD on the socials. Okay, let's hear from Jessica in
- 15:38Speaker 1: the three one four.
- 15:39Speaker 3: Hi, Jake, it's Jessica, your friendly neighborhood missaus therapist. I
- 15:45Speaker 3: really want you to debunk the rod storre at stomach pumpsing.
- 15:48Speaker 3: My uncle has brought it up multiple times. I don't
- 15:51Speaker 3: know why he even thinks about it, but I keep
- 15:53Speaker 3: telling him that's not physically possible. So I just would
- 15:57Speaker 3: really like some real factual and information on that.
- 16:01Speaker 1: Thank you, Jessica. I don't know who your uncle is,
- 16:04Speaker 1: but he's he does have a weird You're you're hinting
- 16:06Speaker 1: at a weird fascination here with this story. And it's
- 16:09Speaker 1: a weird fucking story. It's a bit too ridiculous. I
- 16:14Speaker 1: never believed it, the Rod Stewart having his stomach pumped.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Uh So this morning, on the heels of your voicemail,
- 16:21Speaker 1: I looked it up and I learned how this story
- 16:24Speaker 1: came to be. And I remember hearing the story as
- 16:25Speaker 1: some of you did when I was a kid, Okay,
- 16:28Speaker 1: in like elementary school. Uh the story is, the myth
- 16:33Speaker 1: is that Rod Stewart took on nine sailors. Rod's a
- 16:39Speaker 1: giving lad, I guess, because this was Fallatio and like
- 16:42Speaker 1: I said, Rod Rod, Yeah, Rod was doing the deed
- 16:45Speaker 1: there and anyway, afterward, as the ridiculous story goes, Rod
- 16:50Speaker 1: had swallowed so much that he had to have it
- 16:54Speaker 1: all pumped out. Okay, dumb, dumb, fucking story clearly never happened.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But this morning I asked, how could this become a myth.
- 17:03Speaker 1: I looked it up and it's pretty interesting. Okay, So
- 17:07Speaker 1: I believe this is the early eighties when this takes place.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Could have been the late seventies, but I believe it's
- 17:12Speaker 1: the early eighties. And apparently Rod Stewart had pissed off
- 17:17Speaker 1: one of his publicists or his main publicists, a disgruntled
- 17:20Speaker 1: ex publicist. I found the guy's name, but I'm not
- 17:23Speaker 1: using it here now. Look, I'm not trying to be
- 17:26Speaker 1: insensitive here at all. I'm just telling you the story,
- 17:29Speaker 1: all right, So do not judge me for this. Apparently
- 17:32Speaker 1: Rod Stuart was staying at some hotel with his family,
- 17:36Speaker 1: friend's crew whomever on the road I guess, and he
- 17:40Speaker 1: had a son with him and was apparently trying to
- 17:44Speaker 1: maintain some non rock and roll lifestyle, some sort of
- 17:48Speaker 1: family atmosphere. And Rod caught his publicist at the hotel
- 17:54Speaker 1: in bed with another man, and that pissed Rod off,
- 18:00Speaker 1: so Rod fired the publicist. Now that's the story I
- 18:03Speaker 1: read this morning. Do I believe that story to be true.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I don't believe it to be one hundred percent accurate,
- 18:11Speaker 1: but I do think it's a kernel of the story's origin.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Should be noted that I read in this scene. I
- 18:17Speaker 1: don't want to shit on this publication because they're very
- 18:19Speaker 1: active and out there in the world, and I think
- 18:21Speaker 1: they do more good than bad. But I did read
- 18:23Speaker 1: another story from this outlet this morning that said that
- 18:26Speaker 1: Martin Scorsese grew up in Queen's which he did not.
- 18:28Speaker 1: But hey, everybody gets facts wrong every now and then.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Myself included that said the details of the story, I'm
- 18:35Speaker 1: not one hundred percent behind them. However, the general origin
- 18:38Speaker 1: of it is very interesting to me, and I think
- 18:40Speaker 1: it could have happened. Rod comes back to his hotel.
- 18:42Speaker 1: He finds his publicist in bed with another man. Rod
- 18:45Speaker 1: is pissed off about this for some reason. I don't
- 18:48Speaker 1: know what it is, beyond the obvious sort of I
- 18:50Speaker 1: guess prudeness and homophobia. I don't know. I don't know
- 18:54Speaker 1: what was going on. I don want to accuse Rod
- 18:56Speaker 1: of that. I was pissed, fired the publicist, and then
- 19:00Speaker 1: the publicist, feeling vengeful, went to his contacts in the
- 19:05Speaker 1: press and made this rumor up about Rod and spread
- 19:08Speaker 1: it to get revenge, which is insane. So Jessica, lay
- 19:13Speaker 1: that all on your uncle and let me know what
- 19:15Speaker 1: he says. Seriously, I want to know what your uncle says.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I don't think I don't think he's going to give
- 19:19Speaker 1: up this story. It feels like he's too attached to it.
- 19:21Speaker 1: But let me know, all right, lots of incoming for
- 19:24Speaker 1: you guys on your favorite Christmas songs. And we talked
- 19:27Speaker 1: about that last week. We'll give a little more air
- 19:29Speaker 1: to it this week. So let's check out this voicemail
- 19:32Speaker 1: from Liam in the two oh six.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Yeah, this is Liam, callin from Seattle. You're asking about
- 19:37Speaker 4: a favorite Christmas song. So that little story. In nineteen
- 19:42Speaker 4: ninety six, I was backpacking through Cambodia and that was
- 19:46Speaker 4: early on. Paul Pott was still alive and place was
- 19:50Speaker 4: a total mess, totally anarchy.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Loved it.
- 19:53Speaker 4: Prior to leaving, I put together a little set of
- 19:56Speaker 4: Christmas tunes on a tape for my walkman. And so
- 20:01Speaker 4: back in the day, huh and one of the songs
- 20:04Speaker 4: you know I had, I would play over and over
- 20:06Speaker 4: as those going through the end Cool Lott Temples and Cambodia.
- 20:09Speaker 4: And now it's become a staple for the holidays when
- 20:13Speaker 4: we get family together, and that is rocking out to
- 20:17Speaker 4: run DMC Christmas in Hollis.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Liam, I love this. I love that you're backpacking through
- 20:24Speaker 1: Polepot's Cambodia in the nineteen nineties and listening to run DMC.
- 20:30Speaker 1: This might be the most badass voicemail we've ever received.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Love it, Liam, Christmas time in Hollis. Can't fuck with
- 20:37Speaker 1: it all right? Six one seven nine was six six
- 20:39Speaker 1: six three eight Get at me, guys voicemail and text.
- 20:45Speaker 1: Let's check out this text from the three to oh two. Okay,
- 20:49Speaker 1: text reads, Here's what I don't understand about Tom DeLong.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Why Tom DeLong of all people? I mean, I do
- 20:56Speaker 1: know why, But surely there's got to be someone more relevant,
- 21:00Speaker 1: more socially impactful in the two thousands who believes as
- 21:04Speaker 1: strongly as Tom does. Now that this person from the
- 21:06Speaker 1: three to zero two who's writing in is referencing the
- 21:10Speaker 1: Little Disgraceland documentary we released on our Patreon last week
- 21:15Speaker 1: as a drop that goes into the story of Tom
- 21:18Speaker 1: DeLong and his UFO disclosure. And my answer to that
- 21:22Speaker 1: would be the United States government has used many unwitting
- 21:28Speaker 1: but also unlikely individuals from culture to disclose information. So
- 21:38Speaker 1: you know, I don't know, Maybe it's just as simple
- 21:40Speaker 1: as the CIA just doesn't have a handle. I mean,
- 21:43Speaker 1: who are they going to go through? You know, three
- 21:44Speaker 1: months ago you would have said jay Z would have
- 21:46Speaker 1: been a good choice, right, So, I mean Tom DeLong
- 21:50Speaker 1: has a lot of experience in this field. The guy's
- 21:53Speaker 1: co written a ton of books on this, and he
- 21:56Speaker 1: has a huge bullhorn and a huge audience. And I
- 21:59Speaker 1: think it's as simple is that. I really do. And
- 22:01Speaker 1: I want to know what's going on in New Jersey,
- 22:04Speaker 1: all right. Three H two also writes in a thousand
- 22:06Speaker 1: mob guys in New Jersey and not one of them
- 22:08Speaker 1: is shot a drone down? Yeah, what is up? What
- 22:11Speaker 1: is up? Every day? I have a different opinion on this.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm like, it's UFO, It's it's UAPs. Then I'm like
- 22:18Speaker 1: it's China. Then I'm like it's government they're looking for
- 22:22Speaker 1: they're trying to sense out radiation. There's a dirty bomb,
- 22:25Speaker 1: that's I'm not saying that. Don't get worried, but you know,
- 22:28Speaker 1: my havelet my paranoia get the best of me. People
- 22:31Speaker 1: from New Jersey who are listening to this, please call me,
- 22:35Speaker 1: write to me, text me, hit me at disgrace lampod
- 22:39Speaker 1: on social some of you already have, but no one
- 22:41Speaker 1: so far who has had eyes on these six one
- 22:44Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight. I want
- 22:45Speaker 1: to know what the hell is going on? Please, We're
- 22:50Speaker 1: not getting any information, and I've kind of like, I'm
- 22:52Speaker 1: not trying to be into this story, but I can't
- 22:55Speaker 1: stop thinking about it, So hit me up. All right,
- 22:58Speaker 1: back to real quick here three to oh two and
- 23:01Speaker 1: the Tom DeLong doc. If you guys haven't seen this,
- 23:04Speaker 1: sign up for our Patreon scrasingpod dot com slash membership
- 23:09Speaker 1: and that thing's gonna live up there forever for Patreon
- 23:12Speaker 1: paid Patreon members. All right, you can be able to
- 23:15Speaker 1: check it out there, all right? Five seven oh five
- 23:17Speaker 1: seven oh right, saying hey Jake, this is Logan from
- 23:19Speaker 1: the five seven oh. I just finished the latest bonus episode.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I want to let you know I could not hear
- 23:23Speaker 1: the trucks in the background. I hope this helps rock
- 23:26Speaker 1: and rolla five seven oh. It does help. There's no
- 23:28Speaker 1: trucks today, but there is some bang and they're putting
- 23:31Speaker 1: a roof on the on the house across the street.
- 23:34Speaker 1: I did find out today that a semi famous felon
- 23:40Speaker 1: has moved into the house on my street, like four
- 23:44Speaker 1: houses down. I'm not gonna say who it is because
- 23:48Speaker 1: he's rehabilitated himself and we're all for that. But uh,
- 23:51Speaker 1: I'm a little starstruck by this. Fascinating anyways, they're putting
- 23:55Speaker 1: a roof on the house across the street. I think,
- 23:56Speaker 1: I'm I think I'm talking my way around the bang
- 23:58Speaker 1: and I can't wait for the studio to be done.
- 24:01Speaker 1: I can't wait get a little more time, though I
- 24:03Speaker 1: appreciate the uh. The text five to seven zero four
- 24:07Speaker 1: one six, Jason writes in this is in regards to
- 24:10Speaker 1: the Christmas song. I want to do a couple more
- 24:11Speaker 1: of these Christmas songs. Christmas in Prison by John Brian is,
- 24:15Speaker 1: in my mind, the greatest Christmas song ever written. It's
- 24:19Speaker 1: along the lines of I'll be home for Christmas, but
- 24:21Speaker 1: it's realer and it puts you right there in the
- 24:24Speaker 1: cell with the singer and his pining heart. How can
- 24:28Speaker 1: you be? It was Christmas in prison and the food
- 24:31Speaker 1: was real good. We had turkey and pistols carved out
- 24:34Speaker 1: of wood. And I dream of her always, even when
- 24:38Speaker 1: I don't dream. Her names on my tongue, and her
- 24:41Speaker 1: blood's in my stream. Rock a rolla Merry Christmas. How
- 24:46Speaker 1: awesome is that? Jason? Thank you for that text. Beautiful.
- 24:49Speaker 1: I need to check that John Prine song out. I
- 24:52Speaker 1: keep saying that I keep forgetting, but h I appreciate
- 24:55Speaker 1: you reminding me six one seven nine oh six six
- 24:58Speaker 1: six three eight. Any of you guys want to remind
- 24:59Speaker 1: me of your Christmas songs? Your favorite Christmas songs. We
- 25:02Speaker 1: can keep this topic open for the next week here
- 25:05Speaker 1: until we get through the holiday season at Disgraceland pod
- 25:09Speaker 1: on the socials as well. Got this one from a
- 25:12Speaker 1: fellow named John Gorman, who wrote wrote to me last
- 25:16Speaker 1: year at this time, and I missed it, okay, and
- 25:20Speaker 1: then he wrote to me again and I saw the
- 25:22Speaker 1: rest of his message. I think that's how this worked.
- 25:24Speaker 1: My dog's barking in the background now and with John writes,
- 25:27Speaker 1: I just got back to the States from Shane McGowan's funeral,
- 25:30Speaker 1: and if you haven't already done one, you got to
- 25:33Speaker 1: do one on him. The stories his wife told that
- 25:36Speaker 1: the funeral were insane. I knew he was one mad bastard,
- 25:40Speaker 1: but had no idea how mad. And I responded, of course,
- 25:46Speaker 1: I was like, were you friends with Shane? How did
- 25:48Speaker 1: you end up at his funeral and John Roden I
- 25:50Speaker 1: asked him if you heard the episode too, and John Rodan,
- 25:52Speaker 1: I did, great episode, big fan, and I met him
- 25:55Speaker 1: at a music bar through friends a friends band called
- 25:58Speaker 1: Black forty seven. I've heard of Black seven before in
- 26:01Speaker 1: Manhattan years ago. Patty Riley's got drunk a few nights
- 26:04Speaker 1: before his funeral, grabbed my passport and went and was
- 26:07Speaker 1: welcomed like family, oddly enough, and helped send him off.
- 26:12Speaker 1: John Gorman, you sound like my kind of guy.
- 26:14Speaker 4: Man.
- 26:14Speaker 1: That is incredible. Incredible. John like the sham McGown episode
- 26:18Speaker 1: as well. So if you guys haven't heard the sham
- 26:20Speaker 1: McGown episode of Just Graceland, I encourage you to go
- 26:24Speaker 1: check that out. Speaking of the Irish, this from Matt
- 26:28Speaker 1: Oh Brannan spelled oh br Na, I n with some
- 26:36Speaker 1: accents over the O in the A accents that I
- 26:39Speaker 1: should know because of my Irish heritage, but I do not,
- 26:42Speaker 1: And Matt writes in, ah, you're a Brennan too, I
- 26:45Speaker 1: was born Brennan, but use the Irish version, of which
- 26:47Speaker 1: there are two Brennan and Brannan, wonder which is yours.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Interesting content. He goes on to say. If you're from
- 26:54Speaker 1: the South, it's brownan meaning tear. If from North, it's brand,
- 27:00Speaker 1: which means crow. Now I knew about the crow interpretation
- 27:04Speaker 1: of Brennan, I did not know about the tear interpretation
- 27:06Speaker 1: of Brennan. And I don't want to be regretful of
- 27:10Speaker 1: the crow tramp stamp tattoo that I have, but I
- 27:14Speaker 1: might need to start considering a tear drop tattoo on
- 27:17Speaker 1: my face. I don't know, just just thinking, Okay, what
- 27:21Speaker 1: else do we got here? We'll do one from X.
- 27:23Speaker 1: This one comes from Scott Whole Supple. Whule Supple, I
- 27:26Speaker 1: should know who this guy is. Verified, writes in Disgrace
- 27:30Speaker 1: Slam Pod. Thank you for the amazing podcast. You crushed
- 27:32Speaker 1: every episode, Anthony Bourdain. One was an emotional rollercoaster. You
- 27:37Speaker 1: made the ten hour drive from Nashville to State College,
- 27:40Speaker 1: PA a breeze. Scott, You're the man. Thank you for
- 27:43Speaker 1: taking me along on your trip. I appreciate it. At
- 27:46Speaker 1: Thesgrace slam Pod, Guys, you want to hit me up
- 27:48Speaker 1: anywhere Facebook, Instagram, or on X You can hit me
- 27:52Speaker 1: up with your answer to the question of the week,
- 27:54Speaker 1: which is which SNL performer is your fave and from
- 27:58Speaker 1: what era? And and I encourage you to hit me
- 28:02Speaker 1: up with your story. Okay, what story do you want
- 28:06Speaker 1: us to preserve? What story of rock and roll animalism
- 28:11Speaker 1: most resonates with you that you can't stop thinking about?
- 28:14Speaker 1: Let me know. Call me six one seven nine, six
- 28:16Speaker 1: six sixty three eight at Disgray lampod on the socials.
- 28:19Speaker 1: I'll be back in a flash with some reviews and
- 28:22Speaker 1: some emails. All right, we are back. I'm highly caffeinated.
- 28:32Speaker 1: I'm trying to slow it down. I hope I'm not
- 28:34Speaker 1: going too fast here. I have never talked to you
- 28:38Speaker 1: guys about my coffee maker. It's an espresso machine. Actually
- 28:42Speaker 1: it's not a super expensive one, but it is a
- 28:44Speaker 1: kick ass one. I love this thing, honestly, Like I
- 28:49Speaker 1: have guitars that I like less than my espresso machine.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And I'm drinking like a half calf right. I do
- 28:57Speaker 1: a little you know, decaffeinated grind and some and a
- 29:02Speaker 1: regular grind. And I am cruising right now. So I
- 29:06Speaker 1: hope I'm slowing it down though, So you know the
- 29:08Speaker 1: drill right, Independent podcasts right don't have billions of dollars
- 29:13Speaker 1: to promote this thing. Okay, I'm not a Kelsey brother.
- 29:15Speaker 1: All right, I'm not I'm not. I'm not dating Taylor Swift. Okay,
- 29:20Speaker 1: clearly so right. The only way this podcast grows, continues
- 29:24Speaker 1: to grow is on the backs of you guys spreading
- 29:28Speaker 1: the word, talking about the content in particular. You want

- 29:50Speaker 1: it's that important. Over on Spotify, Ashley Pickholtz wrote, this
- 29:54Speaker 1: was incredible. Can we get the Oscars for podcasts and
- 29:57Speaker 1: give this one all of them? Ashley talking about the
- 30:00Speaker 1: recent John Lennon episode, Part two, the one when we
- 30:03Speaker 1: get into the assassination of John Lennon. Thank you, Ashley,
- 30:06Speaker 1: get in touch, hit me up and we'll get some
- 30:09Speaker 1: merch out to you. Over on Apple Podcasts, TCB man
- 30:13Speaker 1: da that's the username rights. In twenty twenty I joined
- 30:18Speaker 1: the podcast craze, devouring mainly true crime shows and trending topics.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Someone passionate about music history and Elvis. I stumbled upon
- 30:25Speaker 1: Jake's podcast and was immediately drawn in the Disgrace Land
- 30:28Speaker 1: and double Elvis intrigued me and I'm glad I had
- 30:31Speaker 1: found the podcast an interest I'm actually interested in. Thank
- 30:35Speaker 1: you very much, TCB man DA Get in touch and
- 30:39Speaker 1: we'll get you some merch. All right, get in touch
- 30:41Speaker 1: on social or email me disgrace anddpod at gmail dot
- 30:44Speaker 1: com at Disgrace Landpod on the Socials six one seven
- 30:47Speaker 1: nine oh six six sixty three eight voicemail and text
- 30:49Speaker 1: and again disgracelanpod at gmail dot com. Just like this
- 30:53Speaker 1: email from Shelley Freeberg. And wow, do we have a
- 30:57Speaker 1: good one here. Okay listen subject Diddy episode message. I
- 31:02Speaker 1: swear to god, I didn't read this email until right now. Okay,
- 31:05Speaker 1: the whole thing I said earlier about jay Z, I
- 31:10Speaker 1: said that before I read this. You just have to
- 31:12Speaker 1: trust me. On this email says hey, just listen to
- 31:16Speaker 1: your ditty update. You are fifty to fifty regarding his guilt. Actually, no,
- 31:21Speaker 1: I'm not fifty to fifty regarding Ditty's guilt. This is
- 31:24Speaker 1: me talking now, Shelley, not Shelley. I said I was
- 31:27Speaker 1: fifty to fifty regarding jay Z's guilt. Okay, but that
- 31:30Speaker 1: doesn't seem to That doesn't matter to Shelley either, I
- 31:33Speaker 1: don't think, because she goes on to say, way to
- 31:35Speaker 1: straddle the middle of the road regarding a monster pedophile. Okay,
- 31:40Speaker 1: So now I'm not sure if she's talking about jay
- 31:42Speaker 1: Z or Diddy. Okay, let's assume she's talking about jay Z.
- 31:47Speaker 1: I've loved Disgraceland for years. Just subscribed and listen to
- 31:51Speaker 1: your Diddy episode where you have no opinion about Ditty
- 31:54Speaker 1: or jay Z. Now, let's just patently false. And if
- 31:57Speaker 1: you've listened to Disgraceland for years, how did you just subscribe? Okay,
- 32:01Speaker 1: I do have it. I clearly have an opinion about
- 32:04Speaker 1: jay Z. And I said I was fifty to fifty,
- 32:06Speaker 1: And look, if you're fifty to fifty, I didn't say
- 32:09Speaker 1: I'm fifty to fifty, like, I don't know, could be
- 32:11Speaker 1: this way, it could be that way. I said it's
- 32:13Speaker 1: fifty to fifty, that he could have done it or
- 32:16Speaker 1: did not do it, and that says something because if
- 32:19Speaker 1: you actually believe in the integrity of somebody, you're not
- 32:21Speaker 1: gonna give him a fifty percent chance of raping somebody.
- 32:24Speaker 1: There's a huge difference. Okay, if you asked me, and
- 32:28Speaker 1: I said this clearly last week, If you asked me
- 32:31Speaker 1: two years ago, do I think jay Z could have
- 32:33Speaker 1: raped a child? I would have said absolutely, one hundred percent. No,
- 32:39Speaker 1: my trust in his integrity has degraded by fifty percent
- 32:44Speaker 1: more now by fifty five percent. Not that that's gonna satisfy
- 32:47Speaker 1: Shelley here, Okay, let me keep on going here. Are
- 32:50Speaker 1: you afraid of having opinion? I'm clearly not afraid of
- 32:54Speaker 1: having an opinion. If you have listened to this podcast
- 32:58Speaker 1: for years, you know I am not afraid of having
- 33:01Speaker 1: an opinion, even wildly unpopular opinions. Okay, Then she goes
- 33:07Speaker 1: on to say, do you hate women? I'm not even
- 33:09Speaker 1: gonna answer that because it is so fucking stupid. Support
- 33:12Speaker 1: the music industry's disgusting system. Apparently, how fucking disappointing. I
- 33:18Speaker 1: never pegged you for a coward. Is this reads so
- 33:22Speaker 1: crazy right that I actually think it's not from a
- 33:25Speaker 1: real person. I think it's from an army of trolls,
- 33:29Speaker 1: slash email whatever, not a bot, but just people who
- 33:33Speaker 1: are just sort of been unleashed to go out into
- 33:36Speaker 1: the world and just try to, I don't know, like
- 33:40Speaker 1: get public opinion going in one way or another. This
- 33:43Speaker 1: episode that basically whitewashed their crimes. How the fuck did
- 33:48Speaker 1: that episode whitewash any crimes? I feel dumb, guys even
- 33:52Speaker 1: given this this this criticism air here, But I don't know.
- 33:58Speaker 1: She goes on to say, Oh, I don't know, maybe
- 34:00Speaker 1: be there innocent. Well, yeah, they might be fucking innocent. Okay,
- 34:05Speaker 1: they might be. You don't know. We have not seen,
- 34:10Speaker 1: especially jay Z, we haven't seen any evidence at all,
- 34:15Speaker 1: Okay none. We have an accuser who has what we've
- 34:21Speaker 1: seen this year, out of this week inconsistencies in her story.
- 34:25Speaker 1: Does that mean she's lying? I don't think so. Maybe
- 34:29Speaker 1: perhaps we don't know. We're gonna find out. We're gonna
- 34:33Speaker 1: find out, And I'll just say, as it pertains to
- 34:36Speaker 1: Sean Combs, we do have we do have actual evidence.
- 34:40Speaker 1: We have evidence that he is a monster. Okay, we
- 34:43Speaker 1: have evidence that he beat the tar out of his girlfriend,
- 34:47Speaker 1: but we don't have evidence that he's yet that he's
- 34:51Speaker 1: a pedophile as you're suggesting. We don't have evidence that
- 34:56Speaker 1: these atrocious allegations that are being bandied about on TikTok
- 35:00Speaker 1: and elsewhere are actually true. And there's not a lot
- 35:03Speaker 1: of evidence yet that we have seen that supports the
- 35:07Speaker 1: charges in the federal indictment. Will we get them perhaps,
- 35:11Speaker 1: But I'm not going to sit here at on in
