- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: I love you Cleveland, and I love you Ohio, and a very pleasant welcome to the big play Cleveland show here on YouTube.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, I'm Bruce Drener along with Mephoten and Ryan Tyler.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: We welcome you to this week's version.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_00]: This is the Thursday version.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: We're with you Monday through Friday from noon until whenever.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: And today we've got a lot of hot topics to cover.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_00]: Ryan set that platter up.
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: You guys will first of all.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: Good morning.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: Happy to be with you on Thursday.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: Guys, how we can end be free.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: Agency LeBron James is still not made his decision.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: I still believe Cleveland's a front or runner.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: My question to you.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: Do you still believe Cleveland's a front runner?
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: And the longer this thing goes on.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, is that a good thing or bad thing for Cleveland?
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know, I mentioned to you last week that I played in the media program for the Ohio Cup at Firestone Country Club.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_00]: And who do I see in a golf cart put LeBron James?
- 0:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I said, what is this?
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I was told that he joined Firestone Country Club is taking up golf now, Matt and Matt had been aware of that last week.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about it, though, and I brought this up.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: Now question, why would he commit?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: Now he's got more than enough money to burn for the rest of his life and his entire great, great, great, great grandchildren.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: But why would he commit?
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: to Firestone and stay in the Cleveland area for this duration of time.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's because I found out Rich Paul has been meeting with the Cavs hierarchy and Ryan, the Cavs R&D.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_00]: No, it's all because of this hardened thing that makes it feasible.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_00]: but now Philly is in the mix.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_00]: I don't necessarily think golden state is anymore because there's no way they can get Anthony Davis and James doesn't think they've got enough with just green and curry and porzingas and hoorford.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: Matt.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, I would agree, I think the Warriors are out.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_02]: I think the Cavs of the Frontrunner in a prior life, Bruce, I used to have this joke that I would play.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_02]: I had a sounder and it was fans with sources.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_02]: And it's like, oh, your barber's brothers account and no something about somebody, right?
- 2:14[SPEAKER_02]: So I used to love doing fans for sources.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_02]: There's one out there this week that somebody said that Missouri James is enrolled in a softball league in Twinsburg for the summer.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_02]: Right in my neck.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's real estate people.
- 2:30[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_00]: We have about a house.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's true.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, I know this real story.
- 2:36[SPEAKER_02]: It runs wicked.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's somebody tell me what's that.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_02]: They had a friend that was on a laundry delivery route.
- 2:46[SPEAKER_02]: and they said that Peyton Manning signed up for a route in Bratnaul because he was going to come be the president of the Cleveland Browns.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_02]: I have that one several years ago.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, you see the piece about which markets have the biggest celebrities campaigning to persuade Rich Paul and James for those James of Peyton Manning is for a recent Denver, because he played the lead
- 3:15[SPEAKER_02]: That's a great point to bring up Bruce.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: Is it really going to influence the guy like LeBron the guy has been in the NBA for two decades He has elevated rich Paul to become the most powerful agent that the league maybe has ever seen and
- 3:29[SPEAKER_02]: they know the ins and outs.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: That's why like Ryan's here point about this song and dance that we're doing right now trying to figure out where he's going.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_02]: Brian Winner said he knows where he's going.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's just a matter of if they're going to make the move that he's asking them to make or making sure that it's exactly the right fit.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's
- 3:46[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to come off like a negative, but it is what it bursts.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think LeBron likes the chase.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: He likes being quoted.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_02]: He likes people coming up and saying we're going to do this and we want this.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: But I think at the end of the day, he's also going to make the right basketball decision for him and the right basketball.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_00]: And LeBron's not going to achieve that unless, you know, he's got to win a couple more.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: So where is his best chance at 41 going on 42?
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: Where's his best chance to get one or two more?
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: I hear the the real key for him if the cabs can work out the finances is for Lebron is that Cleveland has got to be able to keep the core for as we know it right now.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: That makes sense to me.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, Jared Allen's the one that a lot of people have speculated that if LeBron came, then he'd be moved.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_02]: And I just asked the question, moved for what?
- 4:50[SPEAKER_02]: What is left to go get?
- 4:51[SPEAKER_02]: Who is left to go get?
- 4:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I like, I mean, again, I may be a bit more critical than some of Jared Allen.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_02]: I like Jared Allen.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_02]: It's just, I think he shows up once every couple of weeks, and then
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: Again, in the, in the LeBron factor, we're again, he's not coming here to be a one.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_02]: He's coming here to be a three or a four.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_02]: If he joins the calves, you are led by Donovan Mitchell and Evan Motbly.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_02]: You have James Harden, you have potentially Jared Allen.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_02]: If they trade Mac's juice or not with his new haircut, by the way, did you see that?
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it looks a little slim shady action there.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_02]: If you keep strews, jail and Tyson is a great bench piece.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, a soon shooter would probably be moved.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so that's the thing.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_02]: It's like do the calves sit here and make these moves in anticipation of the bron.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_02]: I would imagine it's more bron makes it known.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to Cleveland.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, Colby go get your ducks in line and do the moves that you need to move and then I'll sign once everything's ready to go.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think the the the Alan trade possibility that was that was more of a hot topic when the possibility of a sign and trade with the Lakers.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: But not any long, right?
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I think LeBron wants to keep this core of four as I said earlier.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: There's also another stipulation in this deal that we haven't touched upon and that's brony.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to him to come along as part of the package and be with him as he concludes his marvelous NBA career.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm for the calves.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: That's an open roster spot.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about it on yesterday show too Ryan that there was there was a radio host somewhere that had the idea of like, oh, the lakers can hold brony hostage and they'll keep him until he they get an unprotected first round pick and a great take that I'm stealing from, uh, I think he was John and Peter Lynn and Nick, uh, Nick Wilson and a great take.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_02]: They go, go ahead and take off Rich Paul.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_02]: go ahead and upset rich Paul on this whole thing and try to keep brownie hostage there in LA.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_02]: I think that's a minor thing.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_02]: Here's a second round pick.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_02]: The Lakers can make that move.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_02]: I frankly, I think the Lakers owe it to the to to Lebron to Ryan if they would want to, you know, again, wherever bronze go and think and just let Ronnie go.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: I don't think that'd be a big issue.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, real quick.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: I want you guys to know there's a theory Lebron's waiting till the end of the world cup because that's taking away too much of the spotlight on Lebron.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_02]: Well, everybody thought everybody
- 7:17[SPEAKER_02]: have you seen the money on that cat call it's called the poly market all the prediction markets Brewster's tens of millions of dollars being bet on where bronze going to go in the prediction market so I don't think there's any rush to do it.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: I really thought there were a lot of people thought he didn't do yesterday the anniversary of the decision.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_02]: They thought that might have been the day for him to kind of do the reverse decision.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_02]: I mean,
- 7:39[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, he knows what he's doing because yes, this is all helpful of growing a brain and not that he needs his brain.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: Grow, but you know what I'm saying like they know what they're doing.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_02]: There is no rush.
- 7:49[SPEAKER_02]: There is no rush because I think everything is pretty much done.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: Are there some minor trades?
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Now all these other, uh, everything's done.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_02]: And the other thing too is even in the team that starts the season, right?
- 8:00[SPEAKER_02]: Bruce, they could make a trade at the trade deadline.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_02]: That was notorious for Braun was put in pressure on the calves to make trades at the trade deadline.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe just start with the team, start with Schroeder here, start with, like, literally, you could just do the calves, resign, harden, sign, Braun, and give it a couple of months and see where it goes from there.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: And then make a trade at the trade deadline if you really needed to.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: Um, he's enjoying the summer.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's spending it here in Cleveland, all indications.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: I thought the Jalen Brown thing was intriguing too, because obviously Philadelphia then becomes part of the mix.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: I do not understand Minnesota.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_00]: He is not gonna go to Minneapolis.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: No, I don't think so.
- 8:45[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: Why did they even come into the picture?
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: I don't get it, you know, even with Edwards, I'm sorry, but I don't know how that came in.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: title contender i think i pretty much everybody that was a content like people talked about the spurs for a couple of minutes and then i got shut i didn't get that i didn't get that i think the only ones that were shut down pretty much from the start
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: were New York because they won the championship.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_02]: Boston because I don't think he was ever going to go there.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_02]: The spurs were pretty quick to get out and nobody ever mentioned the thunder because that would just be the ultimate Kevin Durant sell out.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_02]: So I think of all those contenders they were out.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_02]: It's like Minnesota was there for a minute.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Miami, we know which I think they're probably in third right now.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_02]: of this race, and I really don't think any of the teams out west.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_02]: I know Denver was even discussed for a minute.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_02]: I just think he wants to get out of the west.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: So it was, I know, Minnesota's in the last, but you know, Altman's got to do anything he can now for to get LeBron.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: Now, that means trading away future draft picks, too.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: Do you do it?
- 9:50[SPEAKER_00]: I say yes.
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: I say yes as well and I wanted to get your take on this to boost before we move on talk about the dot of initial extension me and Matt were talking about yesterday your timeout teams that will the heat what would you really want to go there do they give you a better chance to win a thing Cleveland does no and then they're done that to put the Bruce
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure that's 100% true because if you get into the playoffs and you're cruising through the regular season, you're telling me LeBron playing with Yannis and Bam at a bio, they can beat any team.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_02]: Well, and that's another different sewer just arm in the trade deadline, do you look at other teams?
- 10:25[SPEAKER_02]: Like, my base aim on Miami is who's their guards, right?
- 10:28[SPEAKER_02]: They have guard play because I know the front quarter because the calves are a very evenly distributed talented team.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_02]: They've got talented big men, they've got talented guards.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we're lacking on the wing and that's not really the bronze game anymore, um, but you want, I get this stage of bronze career.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_02]: I would think you would want the most amount of options to take the load off of you.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_02]: And if you go to Miami, you're asking Janice to stay healthy.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_02]: Number one, number two, knowing that bronze, not going to play every game.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_02]: So you're going to look at a lot of BAM and a bio.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_02]: And again, I think BAM's a really good player.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_02]: But as you guys, who's the one?
- 11:02[SPEAKER_02]: It's Janice, right?
- 11:04[SPEAKER_02]: Are we sure, yeah, this is going to play all these games don't matter when you get to play I get where you're saying, but what if he gets injured like Luka and has to miss time and this is really the pendulum really has swung in this hole, the brana prediction era.
- 11:18[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean originally it was kind of a game a lot of people thought he was going to stay with the Lakers then when he made that declaration it immediately turned to Roland's sake because it's an obvious that he has expressed the wanting to play with Curry but the whole key there again as I mentioned earlier was not being able to get Davis
- 11:36[SPEAKER_00]: And so now even the most adamant colleagues of ours nationally who had other teams, that LeBron going to other teams have now swung over to Cleveland as the favorite guys.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: and the question is was it always Cleveland and there was just a narrative being pushed or created in the media or really has it's one.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you really think you really did.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_02]: It was legit.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: Very legit.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'll listen to that.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_02]: And I think you got to remember, too, LeBron.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_02]: coming right off the season, the heat of it and the I got to see the shock for the Lakers, but it sounded like he wanted to go back.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: It really sounded like he would have loved to have gone back to the Lakers and the Lakers were like, we're good, you know, and that was something that he had to probably take a second to.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_02]: really let it sink in and start to then make the right decisions.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I mean, there is no rush for him to do this right now.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_02]: So I think the more time that it goes on, Brousalasku, because I assist Orion yesterday.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_02]: Do you believe there is any legit Dark Horse candidate in this whole thing?
- 12:38[SPEAKER_02]: Some team that will like Denver.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_02]: We talked in Minnesota for a minute.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_02]: People want to talk Portland.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_02]: You know, any, any completely and out of the pistons, the magic.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody crazy like that.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: I really.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know and now the paid manning is representing Denver all that changes the whole center I am so sick and tired of all these commercials with paid manning it makes me want to vomit But no, I don't man.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think that there's a long shot here that is still in the mix
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to go out a champion.
- 13:11[SPEAKER_00]: His whole legacy is based on championships, certainly individual accomplishments in statistics, put him already as one of the top five players that have ever played in the NBA.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now, in my opinion, that is Jordan, obviously, Kareem Abdul-Jubbar.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think Magic Johnson has to be in that mix.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: I think to rant at, you can make a great case for Durant,
- 13:38[SPEAKER_00]: In the early stages of their careers, we'll join that list as the years passed by.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: But LeBron is in there already, but the legacy of winning championships.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't put Russell and Chamberlain, Chamberlain didn't win nearly as many championships as Russell, because Chamberlain was known for offense.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: Russell was known for defense.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: Kareem Abdul Jabbar was both.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: Bruce.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if this is going to be the ultimate persuasion point that gets Lebron to Cleveland, but this certainly can't hurt the news Donovan Mitchell signing that 40 or 273 million dollar extension.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_01]: Bruce, we've had a year for years about Donovan Mitchell.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_01]: Does he want to be in Cleveland?
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: He got traded here.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: He signed the first extension and now he's locked up for four more years.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: What is your reaction to that in?
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, does he think this helps the case for Lebron James?
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I think he becomes even more of a hero to the fan base without question because he has like Jose Ramirez showing the love for this community.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_00]: He believes in this franchise.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to win a championship here.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's never won a championship.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: This first time he got to the finals.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I think that he becomes even more of a hero.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: And even if we do get LeBron,
- 14:48[SPEAKER_00]: Mitchell is going to go down along with Lebron is the biggest name Cavaliers biggest stars this franchise is ever no offense A C I'm playing in your tournament We're just gonna get back all after so sorry give you a force them away there No, Donovan Mitchell's the second best Cavalier of all time that we're already there.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_02]: He's he's surpassed so many of them Kyrie He is the second best Cavalier of all time and I think that move
- 15:15[SPEAKER_02]: does signify.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: I'm here.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_02]: He left $80 million on the table by not just waiting until next year.
- 15:20[SPEAKER_02]: I do think there's a ulterior motive in this, and I'm not knocking Donovan for this, but Bruce.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_02]: We all know that eventually when Donovan leaves Cleveland, he's going to be traded.
- 15:30[SPEAKER_02]: They're not going to let him just walk out on free agency.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_02]: whether that's another extension, whether that's eight years from now, whether that's three years from now.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know it all depends on how successful this run with the calves is.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: But I do think that's a signal to the run.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_02]: It's a signal to the team.
- 15:45[SPEAKER_02]: It's also, this money is now on the books.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_02]: You don't have to play games for Kobe Altman to sit there and try to run the numbers and figure out you know what's on the books.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know what's on the books for him, for Allen, for mobiley.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_02]: When you're re-signed, James Hart, you know what's going to be on there.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_02]: And that's going to help them kind of formulate what they want to do, because I also think for Brown, we all just assume this is going to be his last year.
- 16:09[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's probably a safe bet, but I would probably tell you that whoever he signs with will be the last team that he plays with, whether it's one year or two, but I think there's a little element to sit there and say, hey, we're going to go all in for this year, but if
- 16:26[SPEAKER_02]: Heck, if we do win the championship, maybe we can run it back again, or if we don't, we're going to have a second year to make a run.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: That's that's interesting, Matt.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: But again, I get back to the legacy compared to Jordan.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: If if he wins the championship, he comes to Cleveland.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: He wins the championship.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: He's still be one shy of Jordan.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh,
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: But how much better of a way to go out than winning a championship and then letting the cards fall okay I won one less than then Michael did, but I got tomorrow from right But the and I would say winning one if the motive would be to try Jordan to come but I don't see it I think if he comes to Cleveland and we are fortunate enough to win a championship I think he definitely hangs it up
- 17:13[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I think another thing I'm going to say he won one at 41 as a legit player not just a he not I'm sitting at the end of the bench like he would be a legit force to win one at 41.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_00]: He'd be inspired to leave Cleveland, go to go to the state and team up with Curry after all.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe one there.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, well, that's the thing, but I know, but I think Ryan's right, and I agree.
- 17:34[SPEAKER_02]: I think the cabs give you better chance to win than Golden State and the other things Yeah, it's correct.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: And I just think even that roster like that that looked at board just rosters not very good and
- 17:45[SPEAKER_02]: and poor zingus is fine but Steph's getting older he had to battle injuries next year that roster is not really well built plus all that drama was Steve Kerr that got swept under the rug people forget they were they were legitimately having conversations if they wanted to get rid of Steve Kerr and it was time to move on I know that they're all fine now when they're moving forward but
- 18:07[SPEAKER_02]: Wait for that to crop back up again when they're right.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_02]: I get that curve probably wants to walk out with Steph, but let's not forget that drama in their front office with what they're doing there.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I think Donovan Mitchell is such an interesting case study because I agree with you guys.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: Bruce, that's all you shake your head when Matt said.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: Second grade is definitely a fallout time.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you guys.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: But there's still a portion of this fan base that it feels like if Donovan Mitchell didn't sign this extension and he worked to go somewhere else.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't seem like there was that emotional attachment as there were to even guys like Kyrie Irving.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: And I think Donovan Mitchell is a little better than Kyrie Irving ever was.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: Donovan Mitchell better in certain ways, Kyrie Irving better in certain ways.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: But overall player, I guess that's up for debate, but it feels like Donovan Mitchell gets disrespected.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: There's a portion of the fan base that puts all the blame on him.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: It seems like he's kind of a scapegoat for some fans.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_00]: I get very serious.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Definitely better than than Irving.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: Irving and always played in the shadows of LeBron and Mitchell is the man on this team and will remain so The beauty to paint this pick it's gonna be such a let down of James doesn't come here
- 19:09[SPEAKER_00]: But if he does come here, I've always said, the greatest passer I've ever seen in the NBA is LeBron James.
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think magic, Johnson and Hart, Nuppet to the playoffs this year was a fabulous passer.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: But passing the ball is such an underrated, tremendous team talent.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_00]: And it makes the players around you better.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: and for him to be on the floor at the same time with Mitchell or with Harden or with Allen or with especially Pope Icarus of his youth.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: Well, we'll bring up the best in these guys because of his marvelous court vision awareness and passing ability.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: Johnny wouldn't God rest his soul would adore him.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_02]: I do think Donovan is as beloved as Kyrie if not more and that's where I think the difference is it is Donovan as the one and that frustration is going to then fall it I can't make a better comparison I'm sorry it's like a family member.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_02]: you get sometimes you get more angry at your family member than you do some random stranger over something because it happened it's just that life but you love them more than you do some random street it's the same thing with Donovan Mitchell I think he is without a doubt beloved in this town he and Jose are the most beloved players in this town no question about it and Denzel Ward's pretty close to
- 20:36[SPEAKER_02]: Now Miles is going and but the thing is when you're on the top of the ladder like that there's the first off there's always gonna be haters there's always gonna be people they still hate Kyrie and they still hate LeBron I'm sure you could find people in here with air in their head that hate Jose Ramirez there's a few of them.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: They're not many there's stupid is what they are but they're out there You know you know here's something we haven't touched upon we are spewing for all this optimism and
- 21:04[SPEAKER_00]: Pendulum swinging the Cleveland is now the odds on favorite to return of LeBron James for a third stint You know, we have a touch to put What if we don't get them?
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: Then as my old title of a show all bets are off baby Because then the Cavaliers are in a real dilemma.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_02]: See I get what you're saying
- 21:31[SPEAKER_02]: But I also think it's just then as simple as you are resigning James Harden and you're running back a team that was in the Eastern Conference finals a year ago.
- 21:38[SPEAKER_02]: Now you're going to say, wait a minute, the Raptors got better.
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: They can't win it with this, they can't win it.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_02]: No, I agree, but I see her who's thing.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_02]: Boston.
- 21:49[SPEAKER_02]: I think that is a massive loss for Boston with Jalen Brown.
- 21:52[SPEAKER_02]: Is Philly much better?
- 21:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, are the Raptors much better?
- 21:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: Miami.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_02]: Miami better.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_02]: Well, Indiana come back with Hal Burton come back to the entry.
- 22:05[SPEAKER_00]: What about the magic they can't win it with this quote, though this court for they can't do it That's what you're probably Yeah, that's why I'm throwing this out we're Showing all this optimism legitimately, I think because of the latest developments and rumors and all but if we don't get them
- 22:24[SPEAKER_02]: Let me ask you guys this.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that LeBron even having the option of coming to the calves has stopped them from doing anything?
- 22:32[SPEAKER_02]: Has it stopped them from treatment?
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, so then that would be your end.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: Because that's the one move.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: Because remember, this LeBron thing turned into very quickly, by the way, a, a want to, to, a quickly transitioning to a massive need.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: If you are competing for a championship in the East next year.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: Like, if you told me that they were waiting, they didn't trade Evan mobility for jail and brown because this little brown thing was going to happen or they didn't trick.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: Then I buy in that this is some massive miss.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_02]: But if the calves were never going to make any other moves, like if they're offseason plan, which is what Kobe Altman said, take it with a grain of salt, I understand.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_02]: But he said, we're going to run this back.
- 23:10[SPEAKER_02]: And if he didn't stop you from doing anything,
- 23:14[SPEAKER_00]: then it wouldn't be this massive loss if he didn't come here but if he did stop you from doing something then he also didn't come back now we're talking about it before the first big move was the finance that get the hard yeah yeah that was always going to happen right everything since then is the gosh and by the way uh we haven't pointed this out when he made the decision and left Cleveland for Miami
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: went.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: The meetings were conducted in downtown Cleveland, and he and it was in attendance at those meetings with representatives from the other teams.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_00]: This time around, it's only rich Paul that is meeting with these teams.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's in fire, so go off and hurry and out of play.
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's the perfect transition before we go to a break guys 16 years ago yesterday LeBron's infamous the decision Where were you?
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: What did you feel?
- 24:02[SPEAKER_01]: What do you remember about it because sorry to date you guys?
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: I was nine years old and I'm not a cop lately honest.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember a lick of it
- 24:12[SPEAKER_02]: I was on the air with Aaron.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_02]: Riz was out, so it was me, Aaron and Casey.
- 24:17[SPEAKER_02]: I was in the host chair behind Aaron.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: And I saw, I'll never forget this.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: My computer's up like it is right here.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: And I saw the Lee Jenkins tweet.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: Somebody retweeted it.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I looked at it.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_02]: And in radio, you have a what's called a talk back button.
- 24:33[SPEAKER_02]: and you can hit it to talk to the producer.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_02]: So Casey's in the booth and I see it and I look at him.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_02]: I hit the talk back and I go, did you just see this and I go, is this real?
- 24:43[SPEAKER_02]: And Casey looks at me with these eyes and he looks at Aaron, Aaron sees it and I turn my computer and I mean, it was literally, I watched the tweet populate.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: And I talked to Aaron and he's we start freaking out and you know the the families like get it printed get it up like we got it and it was crazy.
- 25:02[SPEAKER_00]: Well I was doing the television show on the network but better yet when he came back the second time I must share this story.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_00]: I had I was the spokesperson for Morris Cadillac
- 25:21[SPEAKER_00]: drove Morris vehicles.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I caught wind before anybody that LeBron was coming back because his people and he had confided in Morris that he was coming back.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I was off the week before he made the announcement.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_00]: I'm on the air saying, it's coming in the next few days.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to happen.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe this week, next week for sure, it's going to have he's coming back.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_00]: So it hadn't happened in my last show on Thursday.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_00]: So on Friday, I was invited to play Firestone of all courses.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: And so I'm on Firestone and the story brings Friday.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: So the bosses are all seeking where am I calling me and they can't get in touch with me.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_00]: And they wanted me to come in and do a special show.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_00]: And I was, you know, no, we're to be fussing the next day, I'm getting calls from all the way to heck where you
- 26:21[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, and I said, well, I was at firestone south.
- 26:24[SPEAKER_00]: I was playing golf.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: He said, well, where was your phone?
- 26:28[SPEAKER_00]: I said, I never take my phone on the golf course.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_00]: And they said, start.
- 26:34[UNKNOWN]: Ha ha.

- 27:15[SPEAKER_02]: We do have some moves with the guardians this morning on the roster side of it.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_02]: They're trying to salvage one this afternoon against the twins.
- 27:22[SPEAKER_02]: Talk a little baseball next to our big play Cleveland Live on YouTube.
- 27:26[SPEAKER_01]: Welcome back to the Big Play Cleveland show live on YouTube, Brian Tyler, Matt Fontana, Bruce, joining guys who are flipping it over to the Diamond Cleveland Guardians drop back to back games against the Minnesota Twins.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_01]: A bullpen implosion is the reason Bruce white socks still lead in that thing and the Twins.
- 27:40[SPEAKER_01]: Just one game back from our Cleveland Guardians who are sitting in second place.
- 27:43[SPEAKER_01]: You start to lose a little bit of faith in this bullpen Bruce.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_00]: Do we?
- 27:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm very disappointed to see here and get nailed like he was on the DL now, IL they call it.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_00]: Some negatives, but I'm going to throw out some positives too.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_00]: Cleveland is 1813 since June 16th, when Jose and Gell went on the DL.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_00]: We are 13 and 16 since the start of June.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_00]: Since June 23rd, 32 games have been decided by one or two runs.
- 28:20[SPEAKER_00]: Now, Sekoni was rolling along, facing only one better over the minimum for three innings.
- 28:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then he gave up the three singles basis loaded walk sacrifice fly.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_00]: Seventh inning was disastrous.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_00]: Sebrowski didn't record an Audi through 11 straight balls.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_00]: Three walks.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_00]: Two with the basis loaded.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: In the fourth row, Kionhaskins.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_00]: Back to back home runs.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: That's the first time this year.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_00]: Cleveland has had back to back.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_00]: Cleveland had to use eight relievers to get through this game.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_00]: Now they went five innings recording three runs on five hits.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: That's not horrendous.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: But I've always said for decades, walks will kill you.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: The pen gave up seven walks in this game.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: Seven, our team banning averages to 29.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_00]: Only Cincinnati at 228, San Diego at 226 are lower.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: First are the LA Dodgers at 264, guess who second?
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: Pittsburgh of all teams 262 our team ERA is 3.80 that ranks 8th Best 835 strikeouts is 6th Best 309 walks ranks 15th right in the middle of the pack 106 home runs given up a 17th opposing batting average 239 is tied for 10 Now I know a lot of people are in a panic mode.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_00]: I am not
- 29:48[SPEAKER_00]: We're not even yet at the all-star break and we're merely one game out of first place.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_00]: The Chicago White Sox have only one all-star.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: That's Vargas, only one.
- 30:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm still not a believer in them.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_00]: We have better pitching top to bottom than they do.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I want to see a crunch time in August and September if they can maintain this pace.
- 30:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not even a great pace.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_00]: Here's another real key in my opinion.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to get Jose back.
- 30:19[SPEAKER_00]: Jose affects our entire lineup.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_00]: Whether we make a move or not, people in front of them people behind them if they pitch around Jose, that makes it better for the people in front of him in the lineup and behind him in the lineup.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: So, when we get him back, this whole lineup changes, the whole strategy of opposing pitching coaches to their hurlers is different.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: So, I'm not an a panic mood at all, guys.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I still think we're the team to beat in this division.
- 30:47[SPEAKER_00]: Minnesota's got to prove themselves to me.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: Have they got the best roster of the bunch?
- 30:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'd like to see us hit better in the clutch.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know,
- 30:57[SPEAKER_00]: We established a major league record last year with the greatest comeback in history.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm certainly not an a panic mode right now.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_02]: I know because baseball such a long season as it been a rough stretch.
- 31:13[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, you know, staff from Jeff Passen today because he was talking about options for the guardians at the deadline.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_02]: And he said, Mickey Moniack of the rock used to be the best match, but the dream match would be Garrett Mitchell from the Brewers talking about potential trade options.
- 31:26[SPEAKER_02]: But in that right up.
- 31:28[SPEAKER_02]: the last 34 games.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_02]: The Guardians have only scored 123 runs, which is dead last in baseball.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_02]: That's also over 100 less than the Rockies who scored the most in that stretch in 34 games in the Major League.
- 31:45[SPEAKER_02]: So it is going to come back to offense in a way.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_02]: It's your question around about the bullpen.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm with Bruce, throw strikes like what are we doing that game was so frustrating to watch of Sabrauski and like I think I like Colin Holderman.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_02]: I think Sabrauski's a great piece to that bullpen I'm about done with Sean Armstrong.
- 32:06[SPEAKER_02]: You know where I'm at with Matt Festa like if you had a back in a cage Smith and Hunter Gattison Sabrauski and even hold them in I that's fine
- 32:15[SPEAKER_02]: I'm in for that.
- 32:16[SPEAKER_02]: Tim here and on the I.L.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_02]: Cody Howard back up and oh, by the way, P.D.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_02]: Helping up, they sent Cooper angle back down.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_02]: You got to taste, get some more experience, you know, get your confidence back.
- 32:26[SPEAKER_02]: I'm all good on that.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_02]: So overall, my worry, no, but I also bruised that feel better if we got a little cushioning going because you also feel like there's going to be another run where it's just going to kind of slip away sometime in August.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_02]: But the thing is, yeah, this division is nobody's running away with it as long as you're contending with you.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: I've brought this division.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_02]: Hey, there's very much truth.
- 32:44[SPEAKER_01]: I understand, I think the Guardians have earned the benefit of the doubt, as you mentioned Bruce, given what they were able to accomplish last year.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: But it's going to kind of have to work with a different formula this year, because your bullpen hasn't been nearly as it has been the last couple years, and you don't really have those arms waiting to come up.
- 33:00[SPEAKER_01]: And if a starter pitch goes down, which is going to happen at some point for the Cleveland Guardians, I think they're what the only team that has had the same five starters, like hers.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: You love saying that.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: You never start with the five that you finish with.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: Then some real trouble is going to happen.
- 33:12[SPEAKER_01]: All of these could get curved if they address all these problems at the trade deadline guys, but here's the issue.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: That usually isn't the case.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're not.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they're going to do it either.
- 33:20[SPEAKER_02]: I really don't.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_02]: I prove me wrong.
- 33:22[SPEAKER_02]: I'd love to be wrong about this.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_02]: I do not see the Guardians making a massive trade at the dead.
- 33:28[SPEAKER_00]: What about the chap?
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_00]: You don't care.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:31[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:33[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_00]: I don't care.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_00]: But Chapman would give us the flexibility that Frank Kona had with Miller.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I would love that.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_02]: And I really...
- 33:54[SPEAKER_00]: When we have to give up.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's my thing, Bruce, is that now that you have so many these young guys up.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_02]: But Zona's your second baseman, whether or not he can feel the ball.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, don't just start it on that.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think it'll get better.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: So like, but what I'm saying, it wasn't a butcher when he came into the majors.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: And now, yeah, it turned out to be a great defensive.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_02]: So it's like, you know, chase the waters you're right, fielder for the next couple of years.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_02]: Because Zona's your second baseman.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_02]: I think Rokio's your short stop.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_02]: Hose is not going anywhere.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_02]: On Hill, Cleo Watson and Center, whatever happens at first, whether that's Ralph you've Alaska's or you keep man's arm.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_02]: But what I'm saying is all these prospects.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_02]: Where's Juan Brito going to play?
- 34:29[SPEAKER_02]: Where's on Hill?
- 34:30[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, you know, a gun to play.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: There's no spots for them.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_02]: So you might as well ship them out and bring somebody in because it's the first time in a long time that you have really cemented players at more than half a really three quarters of your positional.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_02]: places on the field including catcher.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, is solidified.
- 34:50[SPEAKER_01]: These guys ain't going anywhere.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: Bruce.
- 34:53[SPEAKER_01]: On yesterday's show, Matt declared Stephen Quant cooked.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_01]: So there's no coming back for the season.
- 34:58[SPEAKER_01]: Where do you stand with Stephen Quant?
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: What I want to say is I applaud Anthony and
- 35:11[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you got to extend it, it's even quant, you got to extend, it's even quant.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_00]: There's two facets to this.
- 35:16[SPEAKER_00]: Number one, Antonetti and Chernoff, you know, what was the rush?
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: Especially because we are facing almost definite work stoppage next season.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_00]: when he will be a free agent.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: And by the way, they also knew about all these prospects, the delotters of the world and the Watson's of the world and our organization coming up.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_00]: And if we, are we gonna miss Juan?
- 35:45[SPEAKER_02]: No.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_02]: So, trade him.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_02]: I said that last year, they didn't do it.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_02]: Here we are.
- 35:52[SPEAKER_00]: I think they were close.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, and he was very good.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you don't trade One of that would have disrupted that clubhouse big time.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_00]: I just agree there.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, but he but this year I mean, you know, and so you'll go into this year with all this optimism and he's been a bust But what can you get for him?
- 36:12[SPEAKER_00]: You can't get it
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, no, I don't think you trade him now.
- 36:14[SPEAKER_02]: I wouldn't trade him now.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_02]: There's nothing you can do and like I we send that clip out Ryan and of course I got people right up my men right up my mentions and write up something else and tell you that much and they go Look at him.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_02]: I want to pull the stats up because somebody goes look at him the last couple of weeks.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, and I'm like sure fine.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_02]: So over the last
- 36:31[SPEAKER_02]: Here it is.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_02]: I just want to make sure.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, uh, I'm sorry.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: Sorry.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_02]: So it can be said.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, here we are.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: All right.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_02]: The last seven days he's batting 357 the last two weeks.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_02]: He's batting three 16.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_02]: So people want to sit there and scream.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: He's coming out of it.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_02]: Last two weeks.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: He's got an eight 16 OPS.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_02]: But again, he's only had two extra base hits in that entire span.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_02]: So, again, am I going to take a single sinner's Steven Quant?
- 36:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'll take any version of Steven Quant hitting right now.
- 37:00[SPEAKER_02]: The home run thing, which we all kind of thought about was wondering if he'd started chasing that last year.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_02]: I will, I would love, love.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_02]: I like my crow extra well done.
- 37:14[SPEAKER_02]: Serve it on up there, Stephen Quann.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: I'll take two helpings, man.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_02]: Pro me wrong.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_02]: Cause I don't see him.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: I don't.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_01]: For him move on, Andy says, hey guys, I believe the Chicago white socks are playing ahead of schedule fade into the second half like the 2011-12 Indian teams under manny acta guarding total healthy.
- 37:31[SPEAKER_01]: We'll win the division.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, my, oh, man.
- 37:34[SPEAKER_00]: Don't bring up any action.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: They're washing too.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: We got, well, the white socks, after the break are at Toronto, Toronto's making a bid to make the play off.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_00]: At Texas, Texas is in the mix in that crazy Western division.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: They're home to Houston.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: Houston's very much alive and, you know, everybody thought they'd be sellers.
- 37:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they will be now.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: There was talk about Christian Walker.
- 37:57[SPEAKER_00]: That was never going to work in Cleveland anyway because of the money.
- 38:00[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't see them making it.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_00]: If anything, they may buy.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and then they've got them the white socks.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_00]: I've got the Yankees and Tampa Bay.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_00]: So I agree with Andy as usual.
- 38:11[SPEAKER_00]: Andy is one of the best contributors to my show for decades.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about it before too.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_02]: Guardians of the easiest strength to schedule on the way out from here.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_02]: Our white socks have the fifth easiest on the way out.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_02]: So it'll be about even from that.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, a little bit of optimism.
- 38:24[SPEAKER_01]: Some more optimism.
- 38:25[SPEAKER_01]: Three Cleveland Guardian selected to this year's All-Star Squad to them being rookie Spazana Messick, of course.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Closer Kate Smith will deserve their Bruce.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: What does it say about what the Guardians are building?
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, I think it's incredibly optimistic for the future.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, what the front, you know, I've said this numerous times it's worth repeating.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: Shapiro, it is exiting press conference when he got the job in Toronto.
- 38:49[SPEAKER_00]: I raised my hand as for the first question after he made the announcement and he looked at me and he said, well, you got to be the happiest guy in Cleveland that I'm leaving and everybody roared and I had a love hate relationship with Mark, but I respected him tremendously.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: Mark Shapiro era, he made some excellent traits, excellent.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_00]: However, the drafting and the development of those draftees was deplorable under his leadership.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: Since the antennae and Chernoff have taken over, they've also made good trades, very good trades, but the drafting and the development is second to none in the major leagues.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: So, I really am incredibly optimistic about the future of this ball.
- 39:40[SPEAKER_00]: Take a look at their contracts for God's Sinks, Matt, they've got all these guys locked in.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, Bazana just, I mean, just the fact that you have three guys, Messick isn't all star, Bazana isn't all star, and there was a point that Chase DeLauder looked like an all star.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 39:57[SPEAKER_02]: Then you add in on Hell Martinez who looks like he belongs.
- 40:00[SPEAKER_02]: You add in Cleo Watson who looks like he belongs by the way, talk about a trade.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_02]: He was traded.
- 40:05[SPEAKER_02]: We traded for Cleo Watson to bring him here.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: So like, I get that people want to scream a junior cam and arrow.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, that was a massive mistake, right major league team gave up on a guy that went to another team and became a star Ernie Clement went to two other teams before he got to Toronto.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_02]: He's in the all-star Bray or all-star name because it's kind of a joke at this point I'm not trying to knock bigger and Clement over there.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: It is what it is Yandee Diaz and this is they don't miss on very much.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_02]: All right, but I think it's been the development of some of the hitters through
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: I always knew they could develop hitting.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_02]: I know they could always do pitching.
- 40:40[SPEAKER_02]: I'm happy to see some of these young hitters coming up.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_02]: And exactly to your point, Bruce, you can pencil in.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_02]: Does this not sound so refreshing?
- 40:48[SPEAKER_02]: There are five guys on this team that you can pencil in for the next five years.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_02]: Five for the next five.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_02]: then going anywhere.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and the pitching to the pitch too.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, even though the bullpins been disappointing compared to what it has been the last couple years doesn't mean that in the second half of the season, they may turn it on because the bodies are the same.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_00]: The names are the same.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_00]: So these guys, we know what they are capable of doing.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_00]: So again, I get back to reiterate, I am not in any kind of a panic mode.
- 41:19[SPEAKER_00]: We are merely one game out of first place.
- 41:22[SPEAKER_00]: And the white socks have got a rough road ahead.
- 41:25[SPEAKER_00]: Are they indeed for real?
- 41:27[SPEAKER_00]: They lost 120 games.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_00]: two years ago for God's sake.
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm not in any a panic mode.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_00]: We have three representatives in the all-star game.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_00]: White socks have won.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: Tampas got four, Toronto's got four, Yankees four Detroit three Boston three National League, four for Atlanta, five for the Dodgers, you know the Phillies have the most with six.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I mean, that's, I don't want to say, big market bias there.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, couch, shwerber, hits a ton of homeruns, price harpers.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_02]: I was going to go to the all-star game.
- 41:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know, again, the all-star game is fun.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: I always enjoyed, I look forward to the homerun derby every.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm glad they're going back to the out system now and not the time where I never was a big fan of that.
- 42:04[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, is it a representative of how good you are?
- 42:08[SPEAKER_02]: Sure.
- 42:09[SPEAKER_02]: But I also would think that like Gavin Williams didn't pitch all that well in May, but he was a, he was a lock all-star in April.
- 42:17[SPEAKER_02]: a part of that conversation.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: People feel like Brian Rokio could have gone.
- 42:21[SPEAKER_02]: You look at it seeming go, yes, the guardians have three.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_02]: I think there's three other guys that are in the conversation.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_02]: Hopefully would have been there.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe not.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 42:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's probably not on the history.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, he's still going to go on.
- 42:35[SPEAKER_02]: So again, to have the guys even close to being in that conversation.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_02]: Troubles and other winners.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:40[SPEAKER_00]: Troubles, trout got off to a tremendous start this year, even though the batting average left a lot to be this higher future.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_02]: Cleveland Guardian Mike trout.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: I wish.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say I would like to throw my hat in and say Brian Rokio.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_02]: To be in the garden.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_02]: And that's a market thing, I think.
- 43:01[SPEAKER_01]: All right, for him, we've got a baseball guys, some massive news just in our lander announcing he will retire following the 2026 season.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_01]: Bruce, one of the greatest pictures I've ever witnessed in my lifetime of watch a baseball, probably is the greatest of his generation, your take.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_00]: What impressed me the most about for lander is as the game, even even after his prime, he still was able to do this.
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm talking about into his 30s, well into his 30s.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_00]: As the game went on from the fourth, now to the sixth, he's still pitching in the eighth, his clock velocity speed increased.
- 43:44[SPEAKER_00]: All throughout his career, plus he had four pitches.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_00]: And in my opinion, even with that blazing fastball and that slider and that change, my opinion, his best pitch was his curveball.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: He'd make major league pitchers or major league batters buckle.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: And you don't see that often, these are the best on the planet.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_02]: Verlander always had that effortless.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_02]: It didn't look like he threw hard, but she knew he threw hard, it was a very hard throw.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_02]: Bruce O'Hannon asked you, is he the number one Cleveland killer of all time on the baseball side of it?
- 44:21[SPEAKER_02]: Like it obviously had to be someone in our division that we played a lot.
- 44:25[SPEAKER_02]: It always seemed like Paul Canerco hit a massive home run against us, like told me would stick it to us when he was playing for the White Sucks.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_02]: But it's got to be Justin Verlander.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I talk about a historic eye.
- 44:36[SPEAKER_02]: I can't really go back to the 70s and things like that.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_00]: But when he was with Detroit, but we had some good games against it.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: We would.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_00]: And when he was with Detroit, but you know, that was when Dave Dumpowski was the general manager of the Tigers.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_00]: And they spent all that money.
- 44:54[SPEAKER_00]: They were not a mech a market like Philadelphia, Boston, New York, LA, Chicago,
- 45:02[SPEAKER_00]: So it was a little surprising that they spent that kind of money, but they did not win a world series.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now, keep that in mind, they did not, they got to a couple, they did not win a world series even with for a lander.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_02]: Here's the thing about Justin Verlander.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_02]: We talked about this yesterday too, right?
- 45:17[SPEAKER_02]: if he is not a unanimous first ballot hall of favor don't be started a daregeter because i can't daregeter's most overrated player frankly all sports to be honest with you so they're like all mr. one he didn't deserve to go popular opinion but he did not deserve to be unanimous
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: Mariana Rivera, sure.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_02]: Trout, Otani, and Verlander need to be unanimous.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_02]: Don't even hold the votes.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_02]: Just open the door.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_02]: Come on in.
- 45:46[SPEAKER_02]: What's your jacket size?
- 45:47[SPEAKER_02]: What do you need?
- 45:48[SPEAKER_02]: Verlander, 10 time all start.
- 45:50[SPEAKER_02]: Two world series MVP, triple crown in 2011.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_02]: Three times so young when a rookie of the year.
- 45:57[SPEAKER_02]: Four time led to AL and wins.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_02]: Two time in ERA, five time AL strike out leader.
- 46:02[SPEAKER_02]: And he's thrown three no hitters.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_02]: First ballot, you nanomiss don't even think about it.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_00]: I gotta follow up on the cheater comment.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_00]: What?
- 46:13[SPEAKER_00]: When I was doing a show on Fox Sports.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_00]: and it was Geter's last year, and they were making such a big hoopla on every market that the Yankees would play in, every single market.
- 46:25[SPEAKER_00]: Geter's last appearance in Detroit.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_00]: Geter's last appearance in Kansas City.
- 46:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Geter, Geter, Geter.
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: And we're about a third of the way through the season, and I was in a segment on my TV show where we were taking calls.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: And a guy called up and he said, hey, Bruce, what do you think it would take for the Indians to get Derek Jeter?
- 46:53[SPEAKER_02]: You don't want him.
- 46:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I leaned forward to the camera and I said, I beg your pardon, would you please repeat that?
- 47:03[SPEAKER_00]: What did I ever have in that dark dinner?
- 47:06[SPEAKER_00]: I said, I thought that's what you said.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_00]: and I went into one of my rants, which I won't repeat because I'm now 76 and I've got a lot of golf ahead of me here this year.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_00]: So, uh, but it's a big pressure.
- 47:20[SPEAKER_00]: It made, uh, it went viral and I got a lot of invitations from radio stations across the country to comment on that.
- 47:27[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, my only thing Derrick Giedery played what 20 odd some seasons were 21 to 40.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_02]: So we played 19 seasons of baseball.
- 47:36[SPEAKER_02]: He finished in the top five of the MVP votes.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_02]: three times.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, well, Mike Trout did that in four years.
- 47:44[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, he's not what they do.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's doing the incredible view on that they had under Joe Tory.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: Give me a break.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_02]: Every boo.
- 47:52[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, we get the captain of the Yankees.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's pretty again.
- 47:55[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_02]: Good solid defender career threat editor.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not saying he shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame.
- 48:01[SPEAKER_02]: He shouldn't be in the Hall of Fame, but even Order that he should have been the unanimous one.
- 48:10[SPEAKER_00]: It's only because of the spitting incident with her speck.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but what a joke when you compare the offensive and defensive stats and skills of those two players
- 48:21[SPEAKER_01]: Spencer says, I used to screen calls for Bruce can absolutely I can absolutely confirm the story real quick.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_01]: We got to move on.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: I want to go guys Derek Geter's final game.
- 48:31[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody knows the famous walk-off.
- 48:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it helps too.
- 48:34[SPEAKER_02]: Is that rigged?
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: Did they make that one?
- 48:36[SPEAKER_02]: No, I don't, I mean, I don't think so.
- 48:40[SPEAKER_00]: I want saw him, I want to New York to see funny thing happen on the way to the form with Nathan Lane, my wife, and we had great seats, we were like fifth roll, and right before the curtain raised, and Lane came out with that fabulous monologue, anyone that's never seen it, of course, it was the Mel Brooks movie originally, but it was for Cheat Wilder.
- 49:01[SPEAKER_00]: Here comes Jair Geter with some gorgeous babe right in the front row right in the center That's the other part of the year and all the ladies that he had.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: There it is.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_02]: We have plenty more coming up to Big Play Cleveland show live here on YouTube.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_01]: Stay with us.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_02]: All right, welcome back, big play Cleveland show right here on YouTube.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_02]: Matt Fontaine, a Bruce Drenner, of course, Ryan Tyler alongside as well.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: And it's all still going on.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_02]: Even though TMSA is out, we'll talk about that.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_02]: Still, the biggest stage in the world on soccer and fandled change in the game, because sometimes your player gets subbed off.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_02]: It happens.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_02]: will now fandle super sub.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: If your player gets subbed out, your bet stays in.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_02]: If your player leaves the match, your bet continues on with the substitutes.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_02]: So if you bet shots on goal or goals or whatever it is, your player subs out.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_02]: you're still in the game with fandles super sub because in the matches like this anything can happen and now your bet can go the distance let there be goals this summer on fandle go to fandle dot com slash big play to get started right now that is fandle dot com slash big play

- 50:43[SPEAKER_01]: All right, you guys, well, USA, it is over.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_01]: They fall to Belgium in the round of sixteen four to one, Bruce was this a step forward or a missed opportunity.
- 50:50[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm not the guy to ask as far as, you know, expertise when it comes to international football.
- 50:59[SPEAKER_00]: But as you may recall, if you were with us last week, we had Brandon Varnadoan, who is an expert.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_00]: And has attended and covered soccer games all over the world.
- 51:10[SPEAKER_00]: He is a young successor.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_00]: We're going to have him on again next week to wrap up the World Cup.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_00]: And he predicted, if you recall that.
- 51:17[SPEAKER_00]: that Belgium was going to give the U.S. all they wanted, and he was actually, you know, he didn't want to say that the U.S. had a decent chance to turn out no.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_00]: He also predicted that France would win at all.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_00]: He liked Mexico in the other bracket, but they got knocked off by England and from what I understand, they should have won that game.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you know, Harry Kane had a score like two goals within a couple of minutes there for New England to get that win there.
- 51:42[SPEAKER_02]: Team USA, same thing Bruce.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_02]: I just go off one of the people say and they say it was some people say it was not a success.
- 51:48[SPEAKER_02]: It comes out today.
- 51:49[SPEAKER_02]: The Christian Policic had a bone bruising a micro fracture in his leg.
- 51:54[SPEAKER_02]: That's why he had to come out.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_02]: There were people that were pretty mean to be honest with him about him and his injury.
- 52:00[SPEAKER_02]: They got balligan back.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't really have that impact.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_02]: I mean Bruce.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_00]: the post morten if you will watch in this and watch in the match and then even controversy Belgium was the better team like everybody said they kind of go in and I think we were jaded a little bit Belgium was the better team they played that way and they kicked our ass I mean that's all and I know next week when we have Brandon on the the question that Ryan asked that's a perfect question for Brandon the future of United States soccer and what are the prospects and the is the reason for optimism
- 52:30[SPEAKER_02]: I hope so.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, people kind of the the big commentary now is on land and Donovan about the youth, you know, youth and they can't find opportunities to play.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_02]: I see this evening about baseball, just travel and club and thousands of dollars.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_02]: You're not getting the best athletes to be able to continue on with it, which is sad.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_00]: And we're also going to feature Mike Yager, the PGA Golf Professional to preview the British.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the last of the four majors can hardly wait for that show next Thursday.
- 52:56[SPEAKER_00]: Of course, Matt is on a couple of days a week here on our big play Cleveland show.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_00]: And that's all the time we have for this week's version on the Thursday edition.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Bruce Brenner, not behalf of Matt Fontana, Ryan Tyler, Hope you enjoyed the program.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_00]: See you next week for me.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: And until then, as always, most importantly, you remember
- 53:16[SPEAKER_00]: Love y'all, Hio.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: And I love you, Cleveland.
