Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: I'm not getting hold of muwe.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Ft Live Post Game Show presented by Fox One. That's
- 0:17Speaker 2: where you can see all of the WBC games. Bron Kratz,
- 0:20Speaker 2: Todd Father, Todd Father. What the heck happened to Team
- 0:23Speaker 2: USA just now? They did show some fight late, but
- 0:26Speaker 2: they lost eight to six to Team Italy. They were
- 0:29Speaker 2: down eight to nothing at one point they got molly wopped,
- 0:32Speaker 2: and I don't know if.
- 0:32Speaker 3: They were aware that they might.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Be eliminated from the freaking tournament tomorrow.
- 0:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 0:39Speaker 5: I think the one word was flat They came out
- 0:43Speaker 5: flat rate from the jump Street. I think what these
- 0:46Speaker 5: guys need to understand is that every game matters. We're
- 0:50Speaker 5: gonna go over a lot of this, we're gonna go
- 0:52Speaker 5: over the pregame stuff. But for me, it just seemed
- 0:55Speaker 5: like Italy came out with some juice, with some energy,
- 0:58Speaker 5: with the focus of going out there no matter who
- 1:01Speaker 5: they're playing, and going out and dominating, and that's what
- 1:03Speaker 5: they did. The home runs came in plenty. It just
- 1:07Speaker 5: it just seemed like everything went their way. The mistakes,
- 1:10Speaker 5: the strike zone, we're gonna talk about that, every little.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Thing went their way. In USA.
- 1:16Speaker 5: They they came on strong, but it was, you know,
- 1:18Speaker 5: a little too late, cratzy. Oh man, this one, this
- 1:22Speaker 5: one got away early, and it got away often. And
- 1:26Speaker 5: this is a huge loss. There's huge implications here. We
- 1:29Speaker 5: got to break everything down. But man, this is this
- 1:31Speaker 5: one stings a little bit.
- 1:33Speaker 6: This Todd, You're I mean, you even have your south
- 1:36Speaker 6: Side or shirt on. You're entrenched in tournament baseball. You
- 1:40Speaker 6: played for Team USA, you played in the Olympics. Every
- 1:43Speaker 6: game matters, Every game matters. That's from Mark de Rosa,
- 1:48Speaker 6: the manager, down to you know, Ernie Clement to Bryce
- 1:53Speaker 6: Harper to Paul Goldchmid. Every game matters, Every at bat matters,
- 1:58Speaker 6: because when you start getting into the situation, that happened,
- 2:02Speaker 6: the unthinkable happened. Oh Italy pulled the upset. Now you're
- 2:07Speaker 6: talking about this run. I hate going to Diamondation over
- 2:12Speaker 6: in New Jersey, where Todd's gonna spend the next seven
- 2:15Speaker 6: years with his boys playing travel baseball and looking up and.
- 2:20Speaker 7: Go, oh man, they let up a run.
- 2:22Speaker 6: They still won, you know, they still won fifteen to five,
- 2:26Speaker 6: but they let up a run. Now, this is the
- 2:29Speaker 6: this is the real deal, the life that they're going
- 2:32Speaker 6: to have to live watching the team Italy play Team
- 2:38Speaker 6: Mexico tomorrow. Team Mexico wins and it's a low scoring game.
- 2:43Speaker 6: USA could be cooked.
- 2:46Speaker 2: They might not even make it to the damn quarter final.
- 2:48Speaker 2: We were looking at this as maybe the best most
- 2:51Speaker 2: talented team on paper ever for Team USA. We're going
- 2:55Speaker 2: to go over some strategy here. This is a postgame show.
- 2:57Speaker 2: We need to break down exactly what happened. Was the
- 3:00Speaker 2: team starting out flat, no doubt, but they did put
- 3:03Speaker 2: up six runs against the team Italy that has big
- 3:06Speaker 2: league pitching, including Michael Lorenzen who was fantastic, showing off
- 3:09Speaker 2: all of his repertoire, hitting his spots.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Changing locations, the whole deal.
- 3:14Speaker 2: But Tmosa pitching gave up eight runs. What we always
- 3:17Speaker 2: call out is how Team USA does not have their
- 3:21Speaker 2: best pitching on the mound right for these tournaments. Now
- 3:25Speaker 2: we've had better pitching, but it appears as if the
- 3:28Speaker 2: game was navigated to a point that you didn't feel
- 3:31Speaker 2: like it was a must win game for TEAMSA not
- 3:34Speaker 2: to mention, Bryce Harper needs to be playing every single
- 3:36Speaker 2: game at first base.
- 3:37Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Paul Goldschmidt.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Should be coming off the bench, maybe to hit against
- 3:41Speaker 2: the lefty for somebody. At some point in a game,
- 3:43Speaker 2: Bryce Harper should be starting embarrassing for Temsa, as many
- 3:47Speaker 2: people have reported.
- 3:47Speaker 3: And what I.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Want to get to now is something that went ultra
- 3:51Speaker 2: viral during the game, as Mark de Rosa does his
- 3:55Speaker 2: daily MLB interviews, and he was talking about how this was.
- 4:00Speaker 3: A little bit of chill mode heading into tonight. Listen
- 4:02Speaker 3: to this a ton of respect for Italy.
- 4:05Speaker 4: It's it's weird. We want to win.
- 4:06Speaker 8: We want to win this game even though our tickets
- 4:08Speaker 8: punched at a quarterfinals because Mexico plays Italy actually tomorrow.
- 4:14Speaker 8: So this the way, the way the schedule lines up,
- 4:17Speaker 8: this is an important game for us.
- 4:21Speaker 2: What I mean, I'm I'm assuming someone told him between
- 4:26Speaker 2: whenever that TV appearance was it was today, I don't
- 4:28Speaker 2: know what hour it was, and then when the game started.
- 4:30Speaker 2: But what they didn't punch their ticket yet. I mean,
- 4:36Speaker 2: there's no confusion here about how all this works. Crafts
- 4:38Speaker 2: but and the tiebreaker gets complicated. But the one thing
- 4:41Speaker 2: that everybody knew heading into tonight was Tmosa did not
- 4:43Speaker 2: clinch a quarterfinal spot.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Period.
- 4:46Speaker 2: They had won their first three games, great, they had
- 4:48Speaker 2: two cupcakes and then they beat two Mexico in a
- 4:51Speaker 2: nice game, this one still mattered.
- 4:54Speaker 3: I disagree with your one point that every game matters.
- 4:56Speaker 2: It doesn't matter, say for Puerto Rico tonight when they
- 4:59Speaker 2: lost three to two to Canada, they already did clinch.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Now it matters for them to clinch a seed. But
- 5:05Speaker 2: and so maybe maybe I take it back a little bit.
- 5:07Speaker 2: There are games that way heavier than others. If you
- 5:09Speaker 2: want to look at one scenario and say, hey, this
- 5:12Speaker 2: is a game where we're not going to use our
- 5:13Speaker 2: best guys, right, you can't do it anyway. But Puerto
- 5:16Speaker 2: Rico had the option to do Edwin Diaz back to
- 5:18Speaker 2: back days. It's probably not going to pitch in a
- 5:20Speaker 2: game like that because they want to save him for
- 5:21Speaker 2: the rest of the tournament or for the next day.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Right in this scenario, team USA loses this game, they
- 5:27Speaker 2: could be knocked out of the tournament. Do you feel
- 5:30Speaker 2: like that was clear.
- 5:33Speaker 7: No?
- 5:33Speaker 6: Not to I mean to me, yes, not to not
- 5:37Speaker 6: clearly when if your manager says that if you have
- 5:40Speaker 6: a big hangout after your game last night, you know
- 5:43Speaker 6: what what Like up until that point, it felt like
- 5:50Speaker 6: they I thought they knew they needed to win this game.
- 5:53Speaker 6: If you're the manager, if you're part of Team USA,
- 5:57Speaker 6: you know that this is a must win game. You
- 5:59Speaker 6: still have to win it. You don't just cruise through
- 6:02Speaker 6: games with big leaguers in them like this is how
- 6:05Speaker 6: this is how the game works. So for the manager
- 6:09Speaker 6: to set a tone that's that's tough and he's gonna
- 6:13Speaker 6: he's gonna want to take that back.
- 6:16Speaker 2: We love Hello Fresh shout out to them, and over
- 6:19Speaker 2: one hundred recipes to choose from each week to provide variety.

- 6:40Speaker 7: Well, listen, Scott, I'm trying to stay in my playing
- 6:42Speaker 7: slash fighting shape. So I need the seafood. I need
- 6:44Speaker 7: the protein, and I need the veggies.
- 6:46Speaker 5: And plus I want to look cool when people come
- 6:47Speaker 5: over and say, wow, you made all this stuff, and
- 6:49Speaker 5: I'll be like easy peasy.
- 6:51Speaker 2: A new slogan HelloFresh making aj look good. So go
- 6:55Speaker 2: to HelloFresh dot com slash ft one zero FM to

- 7:05Speaker 2: your third box. Offer valid while supplies last. Free meals
- 7:09Speaker 2: applied to discount on first box new subscribers only varies
- 7:12Speaker 2: by plan because when dinner tastes this good, nothing hits
- 7:15Speaker 2: like home cooking.
- 7:18Speaker 5: Listen, it happened before Australia. Yeah, we saw Australia. They
- 7:23Speaker 5: got the second run in their final game against Korea,
- 7:28Speaker 5: if I'm not mistaken, and that was in the eighth inning,
- 7:31Speaker 5: and next thing, you know, Korea had to get another
- 7:34Speaker 5: run so they can find their way to move forward.
- 7:37Speaker 5: So yeah, these scenarios are playing out the excitement from
- 7:40Speaker 5: one team the disappointment from another. But every run counts,
- 7:46Speaker 5: every inning counts, every misplay counts. And this is a
- 7:50Speaker 5: big one.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Man.
- 7:51Speaker 5: They gave up a lot of runs. And it goes
- 7:53Speaker 5: by the run differential. I mean, if you look at
- 7:56Speaker 5: these tie breakers, I mean it goes by runs allowed,
- 8:00Speaker 5: defensive outs record first, which everybody might be tied, and
- 8:04Speaker 5: then next thing, you know, runs allowed for per defensive outs.
- 8:09Speaker 5: This is it's nail butting time. It's now butting time
- 8:12Speaker 5: for USA. When we're looking at this and we're seeing
- 8:15Speaker 5: the game tomorrow. Man, it would be a shame if
- 8:17Speaker 5: they don't make it to the quarterfinals. The team is
- 8:20Speaker 5: really good, it's really deep. It goes to show you
- 8:23Speaker 5: how great baseball really is, too.
- 8:25Speaker 4: Man.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Any given day, a team like Team Italy comes in there,
- 8:29Speaker 5: mashes a couple home runs and next thing you know,
- 8:32Speaker 5: it's eight nothing.
- 8:33Speaker 4: You're like, WHOA just taken back a little bit.
- 8:36Speaker 5: You can hear it in the announcer's voice, in John
- 8:38Speaker 5: Smolt's voice, like it took the wind out of everybody's sales,
- 8:42Speaker 5: you know. But yeah, yeah, they're gonna look back. Hopefully
- 8:45Speaker 5: they'll look it back on this one and get a
- 8:47Speaker 5: laugh and they can get in. But right now, nobody's laughing.
- 8:51Speaker 2: And I want to give a ton of credit to
- 8:53Speaker 2: Team Italy, and I want to make sure we save
- 8:55Speaker 2: some time to talk about how brilliant the performance from
- 8:57Speaker 2: the bottom of the lineup was vinniep with great stretches
- 9:00Speaker 2: over at first the pitching held a Team USA lineup
- 9:04Speaker 2: that is fierce and has been patient as hell, working
- 9:07Speaker 2: a ton of walks and they were going after them, right,
- 9:10Speaker 2: But let me go back to the pitching for a moment,
- 9:12Speaker 2: and we'll get to that.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Crats.
- 9:13Speaker 2: Let me go back to the pitching for a moment.
- 9:14Speaker 2: Nolan McLain was brilliant with the Mets last year. He's
- 9:17Speaker 2: still I think technically a rookie, right he's starting in
- 9:21Speaker 2: a must win game for the US. Then it's Ryan
- 9:24Speaker 2: Yarborough who ended up going to in a third. Brad
- 9:27Speaker 2: Keller had a really bad mistake on a potential double playball,
- 9:31Speaker 2: turns around to throw it.
- 9:32Speaker 3: They get nothing out of that.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Do you feel like the pitching plan was good enough
- 9:37Speaker 2: tonight for the US or again, I'll say it, they
- 9:41Speaker 2: were making sure everybody gets their time.
- 9:43Speaker 3: You gotta balance.
- 9:44Speaker 2: This person gets his abs, this person gets his innings.
- 9:48Speaker 2: It doesn't feel like that's the case for every team.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I watch a lot of WBC and I don't get
- 9:54Speaker 2: that same feeling. I can't point to every single scenario here,
- 9:58Speaker 2: and there are rules in play for usage in the WBC,
- 10:02Speaker 2: but I feel like Team USA has a lot more
- 10:05Speaker 2: to manage. And that was talked about for the last
- 10:07Speaker 2: three years, including by de Rosa, who runs this team.
- 10:10Speaker 2: He's like, I cannot do the talk to every organization.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Everybody gets a metal shit. They just did it tonight.
- 10:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean there's so much So I heard it
- 10:22Speaker 6: explained one time in the World Cup. Would you rather
- 10:25Speaker 6: have a veteran taking a penalty shot at the end
- 10:29Speaker 6: of a game or would you rather have this sensational
- 10:33Speaker 6: rookie who's never been battle tested in that moment taking
- 10:37Speaker 6: a penalty shot. Well, today you threw a rookie out there.
- 10:41Speaker 6: I'm not saying Nolan McLain. Nol McLain might even win
- 10:43Speaker 6: the Rookie of the Year, he might go on and
- 10:45Speaker 6: have an incredible career.
- 10:47Speaker 7: Wasn't the right.
- 10:47Speaker 6: Choice to have a rookie who hasn't been in those
- 10:51Speaker 6: big spots when you could have scheduled different guys. And
- 10:56Speaker 6: I know there's rules, there's different issues with the pitch
- 10:59Speaker 6: cap I mean with the not pitch count because everybody's
- 11:01Speaker 6: on pitch count, but the different guys that you're allowed
- 11:05Speaker 6: to throw you're not allowed to throw, how you construct
- 11:08Speaker 6: the rotation, how the guys start. But to me, you
- 11:13Speaker 6: gotta you gotta look at it and say, is this
- 11:17Speaker 6: the do you want experience out there on the mound.
- 11:20Speaker 6: Did they have no other choices? I don't know everything
- 11:23Speaker 6: in the background, but it obviously backfired. It obviously was
- 11:28Speaker 6: an issue that Italy came out and they had four
- 11:31Speaker 6: hits in eight runs. That means they were giving base
- 11:35Speaker 6: runners up. Credit to Italy, absolutely, but if you're on
- 11:40Speaker 6: Team USA, you're pitching on Team USA, you have to
- 11:42Speaker 6: put guys in the line, in the rotation on the
- 11:45Speaker 6: mound that are gonna throw strikes, not hit batters. Like
- 11:49Speaker 6: there's two There was too many free, free base runners
- 11:52Speaker 6: and Italy men, and.
- 11:53Speaker 5: Pay listen to this that I'm looking at the box
- 11:57Speaker 5: score the Italy's first five batters this here, oh for four,
- 12:03Speaker 5: oh for five, oh for five, oh for four, oh
- 12:05Speaker 5: for four, six, seven, eight, nine, Absolutely did incredible. You know,
- 12:12Speaker 5: I don't have the full number line here, but you
- 12:14Speaker 5: think about your first five batters.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Going, what is that twenty two? Come on man, and
- 12:21Speaker 4: you win the game.
- 12:22Speaker 5: Mike Lorenzen, I mean, have a day like Holy col
- 12:26Speaker 5: for Team Midaly, and you think about this whole thing.
- 12:28Speaker 5: Nolan McLean, first three batters, three up, three down, all
- 12:32Speaker 5: on struckouts, strikeout the side. You thought it was gonna
- 12:36Speaker 5: be easy pickings. And then boom, left the pitch out
- 12:39Speaker 5: over the plate, two seamer gone opposite field, and then
- 12:42Speaker 5: another one on the inner half that flattened out.
- 12:45Speaker 4: And that's what happens in baseball. That's it.
- 12:49Speaker 5: All the left handed batters too, I mean, absolutely incredible.
- 12:53Speaker 5: This is why the World Baseball Classic is one of
- 12:55Speaker 5: the best shows on Earth for baseball fans. You know,
- 12:59Speaker 5: any think can happen in these games, and this, this
- 13:02Speaker 5: is huge, This is absolutely huge.
- 13:04Speaker 4: This could be really devastating.
- 13:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know tomorrow, Team Italy against Team Mexico
- 13:10Speaker 2: is gonna be must watch.
- 13:14Speaker 3: TV broadcast Fox.
- 13:15Speaker 2: One if you're streaming it, right, we were everything about
- 13:19Speaker 2: tomorrow was Oh, Venezuela against Dominican Republic's gonna be awesome.
- 13:22Speaker 2: They're both advancing, it's proceeding, but it's going to be
- 13:24Speaker 2: so good. I mean, Italy against Mexico is going to
- 13:28Speaker 2: be nuts because US fans are all gonna have to
- 13:30Speaker 2: watch biting their nails and playing out scenarios. Just like
- 13:33Speaker 2: you mentioned, Todd Father, Korea knew that they had to
- 13:35Speaker 2: get to a seven to two score to a five
- 13:37Speaker 2: run advantage there in that game to advance in their pool.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Tm USA doesn't even get to control the destiny.
- 13:42Speaker 2: They just have to watch a game play out that
- 13:45Speaker 2: started by Aaron Nola. Great for Team Italy and everyone
- 13:48Speaker 2: in the US is suddenly Italian. They're rooting for Team Italy.
- 13:51Speaker 2: But guess what the Mexico lineup is?
- 13:52Speaker 4: Legit it is and it changes the scenario.
- 13:57Speaker 5: Who Mexico might even want to throw, like who they
- 13:59Speaker 5: want position like, There's a lot that goes into this.
- 14:02Speaker 5: They saw the loss, they'll like, ooh, all right, we're
- 14:05Speaker 5: sitting pretty here. You never know what can happen. So
- 14:08Speaker 5: and listen, Italy with this win, they can still get
- 14:11Speaker 5: bounced out. So that's that's the crazy part about this.
- 14:15Speaker 5: To the victor, go the spoils. We guess what, Italy,
- 14:17Speaker 5: you don't get your cappuccino and express already for tomorrowkuse
- 14:20Speaker 5: you better come to play too. So this is very interesting,
- 14:25Speaker 5: very very interesting.
- 14:29Speaker 2: All right, a couple things from the game here real quick, Kratz,
- 14:34Speaker 2: you want to give some love to Team Italy and
- 14:36Speaker 2: what stood out to you Lorenzen as a former catcher
- 14:39Speaker 2: watching Michael Lorenzen carve up a lineup like that, Kratz
- 14:42Speaker 2: how did that look? And then what did you think
- 14:44Speaker 2: of the bottom of the lineup with guys like Jack Caglion,
- 14:48Speaker 2: who I think is going to be a future star
- 14:49Speaker 2: in the big leagues. You saw a little bit last year,
- 14:52Speaker 2: but I mean he's got ridiculous pop and just the
- 14:54Speaker 2: bottom of the lineup thriving. Vinnip has recruited this team.
- 14:59Speaker 2: He got everybody except he couldn't get Roman Anthony because
- 15:01Speaker 2: the US team ended up getting him. But otherwise Anthony
- 15:03Speaker 2: would have been on Team Italy and then he loses
- 15:06Speaker 2: to the US. So we've been critical of Team USA
- 15:09Speaker 2: for the first ten minutes here, but I do want
- 15:11Speaker 2: to make sure that we give flowers to Team Italy
- 15:14Speaker 2: for the biggest win in the country's history in baseball by.
- 15:19Speaker 6: Far, by far biggest, maybe the biggest upset in WBC history,
- 15:25Speaker 6: no matter who advances out of this incredible upset. But
- 15:30Speaker 6: this lineup, this lineup was constructed to be a top
- 15:33Speaker 6: heavy lineup. Is like, is Jack Heckley oone going to
- 15:38Speaker 6: play in the next WBC or maybe in the Olympics
- 15:41Speaker 6: in twenty eight if they if they allow big leaguers
- 15:43Speaker 6: and possibly hit third or fourth, Yes, I think that's
- 15:46Speaker 6: his I think that's where he's not even his ceiling.
- 15:50Speaker 6: I think that's just what he'll be able to do
- 15:51Speaker 6: because of unlocking that power. But when you look at
- 15:54Speaker 6: his lineup and you have a veteran in Birdie, you have,
- 15:59Speaker 6: I mean, I guess past Fineen, it would be a
- 16:00Speaker 6: veteran the captain hitting third, and then Dominic Canzone hitting forth.
- 16:06Speaker 6: You would go okay, like this lineup's gonna score some runs,
- 16:09Speaker 6: and then you get down. You got a rookie last
- 16:11Speaker 6: year's rookie catcher for the White Sox, and Teal who
- 16:14Speaker 6: has unbelievable grinded out at bats. To me, yes, Caglione
- 16:19Speaker 6: hit the homer, but to me it's it was a
- 16:23Speaker 6: Teal home run that like whoa like us got punched
- 16:28Speaker 6: in the mouth. Wait a minute, this dude just hit
- 16:29Speaker 6: a ball opposite field into the Crawford boxes and his
- 16:34Speaker 6: at bats.
- 16:35Speaker 7: To me, unfortunately came out injured.
- 16:37Speaker 6: So that's gonna be that's gonna really hurt Team Italy
- 16:40Speaker 6: tomorrow when they're playing in that game. But his at
- 16:44Speaker 6: bats reminded me of what I was seeing from Bobby Witt,
- 16:49Speaker 6: not saying they're the best players, not saying he's as
- 16:51Speaker 6: good as Bobby Witt. I'm saying that he wasn't giving
- 16:54Speaker 6: up any pitches. His ability to stay locked in and
- 16:59Speaker 6: put the ball in play and hit it hard really
- 17:02Speaker 6: kind of showed me what Italy did throughout their lineup,
- 17:05Speaker 6: the fact that they still only had four hits when
- 17:08Speaker 6: they scored their eight runs they ended up I think
- 17:10Speaker 6: they ended up getting two more hits if I'm not
- 17:12Speaker 6: a mistake. Yeah, they had six total, but to get
- 17:15Speaker 6: four hits and score eight runs, it showed they weren't
- 17:19Speaker 6: afraid of the US pitching. They weren't afraid of the
- 17:22Speaker 6: guys that they were running out there. And we haven't
- 17:26Speaker 6: even gotten to Italy's pitching staff yet, which.
- 17:31Speaker 2: We can do right now, please. I mean, this was
- 17:36Speaker 2: the difference for Team Italy this year. In my mind,
- 17:38Speaker 2: you have some young, exciting players like Jackaggs, but Lorenzen tonight,
- 17:43Speaker 2: Aaron Nola tomorrow, those are guys that can handle a
- 17:47Speaker 2: big league lineup.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Are they gonna out stuff you to death? No? But
- 17:51Speaker 3: maybe that's actually the trick. Is it? Bingo?
- 17:53Speaker 7: Crats bingo?
- 17:56Speaker 6: Because of the fact that it's so hard to adjust
- 17:59Speaker 6: to look Aaron Nola Aaron Nola almost won a syng
- 18:02Speaker 6: a few years ago. Like, I get that, And these
- 18:05Speaker 6: guys know how to pitch. And what if we always
- 18:08Speaker 6: said about some of the best hitting teams that hit
- 18:12Speaker 6: a ton of home runs, which tbusa is hit a
- 18:14Speaker 6: ton of home runs. It's clearly a team that drives
- 18:17Speaker 6: the ball out of the ballpark. They can be pitched too.
- 18:21Speaker 6: How do you pitch to a team like that? By
- 18:23Speaker 6: making pitches, not by out stuffing them. Do not out
- 18:27Speaker 6: stuff an All Star lineup because those duse are like,
- 18:30Speaker 6: oh one hundred, I'll clip it. Don't out stuff the
- 18:33Speaker 6: Dominican Republic. Don't out stuff you know, Team USA, because
- 18:39Speaker 6: it's just not gonna happen.
- 18:40Speaker 7: But you can pitch. You can make those pitches.
- 18:42Speaker 6: You can bring in Weissert, you can bring in guys
- 18:46Speaker 6: that are making pitches on the corners or not even
- 18:48Speaker 6: just on the corners, but in locations that these guys
- 18:53Speaker 6: have just slower exit velocities. That's all you're looking for.
- 18:58Speaker 6: And they didn't get intimidated by them. Intimidated pitchers do
- 19:02Speaker 6: what They walk guys. They don't give up hits. They
- 19:05Speaker 6: walk guys where they get behind, and then they give
- 19:07Speaker 6: up big damage. The Italian pitchers were not afraid of
- 19:11Speaker 6: these guys. They were going after them and they didn't
- 19:15Speaker 6: give them a team that I think walked fifteen times
- 19:19Speaker 6: up till that point and had some really grinded.
- 19:22Speaker 7: Out at bats.
- 19:23Speaker 6: I think they scored all their runs until Picrow Armstrong's
- 19:27Speaker 6: second home run. They scored all their runs with two outs,
- 19:30Speaker 6: so like they were not afraid. They were maybe too patient,
- 19:36Speaker 6: maybe a little sleepy the lineup. But to me, the
- 19:38Speaker 6: pitchers who make their pitches, which Aaron Nola is gonna
- 19:42Speaker 6: do tomorrow against Team Mexico. Team Mexico just has to
- 19:45Speaker 6: come out and kind of wear Nola down because I
- 19:48Speaker 6: think this Italian team's bullpen is gonna be a little guessed.
- 19:52Speaker 6: They do have the same restrictions as other teams. They're
- 19:54Speaker 6: not gonna be able to pitch you know everybody, at
- 19:57Speaker 6: least I don't think.
- 19:59Speaker 3: No, the same restrictions apply.
- 20:01Speaker 2: That's why I mean Mexico coming off a day off, right,
- 20:06Speaker 2: they didn't play today.
- 20:08Speaker 6: No, I mean I mean Italy. Italy is going to
- 20:10Speaker 6: be the same restrictions. They're not gonna be able to
- 20:12Speaker 6: go back to back with certain guys like.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I know it's gonna be Team Mexico didn't play today.
- 20:18Speaker 7: No, but I'm saying Team Mexico is gonna be fine.
- 20:20Speaker 6: I'm saying if that's the advantage Mexico's.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Coming in coming in fresh today against Italy. You also know,
- 20:28Speaker 2: you guys know like the emotional high. Well let's get
- 20:31Speaker 2: into that in one second. We got to stop for

- 21:14Speaker 2: the WBC has Dominican Republic against Venezuela tomorrow. Italy against
- 21:19Speaker 2: Mexico is going to be nuts. Some Team USA fans
- 21:21Speaker 2: might want to go there now, and they're going to
- 21:24Speaker 2: be rooting for Italy.
- 21:24Speaker 3: They like I said, they're going to all be Italian tomorrow.

- 21:40Speaker 2: account so you can use it later. All right, Todd Father,
- 21:46Speaker 2: what do you think now? For tomorrow's game? We got
- 21:49Speaker 2: to get a good look of Team Italy, but Team Mexico.
- 21:53Speaker 3: Kept up with the US too right.
- 21:55Speaker 2: They lost by a couple runs, and Jaron Duran looks
- 21:58Speaker 2: like he's on fire. Lejandro Kirk can get the job
- 22:02Speaker 2: done with clutch AB's Randy or Rosarina has a chance
- 22:07Speaker 2: to knock out his buddy Cal Raleigh tomorrow night.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Too soon.
- 22:13Speaker 4: No, it's never too perfect.
- 22:17Speaker 2: You saw that drama, right, I kept going too with
- 22:21Speaker 2: the post and then Cal's like we're good. Whatever it is.
- 22:23Speaker 2: It at least provided a little bit of a distraction.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Not that it didn't cost the US anything here. First
- 22:27Speaker 2: of all, cal wasn't even playing. That's probably the one
- 22:29Speaker 2: you can make a case for. Catcher is going to
- 22:31Speaker 2: go back to back if you have two superstar Allward Catchers. Okay,
- 22:35Speaker 2: but Randy Rose Arena has a chance. I mean, he
- 22:39Speaker 2: is going to be the most motivated player on the
- 22:41Speaker 2: planet tomorrow. And we just were in race camp yesterday, right,
- 22:46Speaker 2: was that yesterday or today?
- 22:48Speaker 3: Today? It felt like yesterday.
- 22:49Speaker 2: Eric Neander was saying, I'm motivated. Randy Rose Arena is scary.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Watch out for his abs tomorrow because he has a
- 22:55Speaker 2: chance to say, hey, US are not even going to
- 22:57Speaker 2: the quarterfinal, which is insane. But I'll be saying we
- 23:01Speaker 2: want the US. But I live for that drama too,
- 23:03Speaker 2: Tom Tyler.
- 23:05Speaker 5: Yeah, you love the drama. I know you do. You
- 23:08Speaker 5: love every morsel of it. Like listen, here's my thing, dude.
- 23:13Speaker 5: If it's a hockey match and they just had their
- 23:16Speaker 5: big to do in the Olympics, your teammates on the
- 23:20Speaker 5: other side, they're not they're not high fiving each other
- 23:22Speaker 5: man this you know it's not happy go lucky this,
- 23:25Speaker 5: this is this is it.
- 23:26Speaker 4: Man.
- 23:27Speaker 5: You're gonna try and shake my hand. Yeah, give me
- 23:30Speaker 5: a you know, top your bat against my leg or something.
- 23:33Speaker 5: Don't go for a handshake, man, Come on now, I
- 23:35Speaker 5: I it is what it is.
- 23:37Speaker 4: I'm not for me. That's just play the game. That's all.
- 23:41Speaker 5: Gimm tap, Hey, good luck, go get them. You know
- 23:43Speaker 5: what I mean the handshake. Maybe I'm not saying it
- 23:46Speaker 5: went too far, but yo, we're trying to win here.
- 23:48Speaker 5: This is a battle, man. You know, I'll see you
- 23:50Speaker 5: in a couple of weeks down at Spring. We can
- 23:52Speaker 5: have a few roop ers and and laugh it off
- 23:55Speaker 5: and you know, bust each other's chops knowing who won
- 23:57Speaker 5: the game and talk a little smack. But you know,
- 24:00Speaker 5: different circumstances, you know, go out there and play, give
- 24:03Speaker 5: them the tap and move on. So, you know, I
- 24:07Speaker 5: don't know. I think we're moving on from the whole thing.
- 24:10Speaker 5: But yeah, they're teammates, but they're not teammates during the game.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Play the game. Let's go battle. It comes to fastball, inside,
- 24:16Speaker 5: get out of the way, watch out.
- 24:18Speaker 7: I love that by you, Todd, I love that by you.
- 24:21Speaker 6: But I think this is now that the question is
- 24:26Speaker 6: does Mexico say, because we don't want all Randy. We
- 24:29Speaker 6: don't want Randy to hit you know, three dangers here
- 24:32Speaker 6: because then all of a sudden, Team Italy gives up
- 24:35Speaker 6: too many runs. So is there a case that maybe
- 24:39Speaker 6: Mexico tries to win for one, three zero?
- 24:46Speaker 7: Just just saying I'm just asking, I'm asking for a friend.
- 24:50Speaker 5: I listen, Cratzy, you you might see guys getting thrown
- 24:55Speaker 5: out on purpose. Would not be crazy to think, Like, listen,
- 24:58Speaker 5: if there was a like top nine or something whatever
- 25:02Speaker 5: this scenario is, and they're like, you know what if
- 25:05Speaker 5: we just get out here, USA doesn't get in and
- 25:09Speaker 5: we get three outs, So do you take that chance?
- 25:11Speaker 4: Do you have fun with it? Or a man?
- 25:14Speaker 5: I don't think you do. But at the same time,
- 25:17Speaker 5: crazier things have happened. I want to know all this.
- 25:20Speaker 5: I need to know the scenarios. I need to know
- 25:22Speaker 5: exactly how many runs somebody needs to get and then
- 25:25Speaker 5: we could talk more about it. I think that's going
- 25:27Speaker 5: to be the fascinating part about how USA can go
- 25:31Speaker 5: home or move on.
- 25:33Speaker 7: I think it's five.
- 25:35Speaker 6: I think if Mexico wins, if they score five runs,
- 25:40Speaker 6: then I know what we're.
- 25:42Speaker 2: Showing right now, guys, But it was during the game,
- 25:44Speaker 2: so so just behind the scenes, it's changed since that.
- 25:48Speaker 2: So we're showing something that was during the game that
- 25:51Speaker 2: it's changed since.
- 25:53Speaker 6: Those last few runs, those last few runs at that US,
- 25:56Speaker 6: while they still lost, that was huge that they scored
- 25:59Speaker 6: the because of the run differential in that sense, but
- 26:02Speaker 6: it's the runs against. US has given up eleven and
- 26:07Speaker 6: because they gave up three to Mexico and eight tonight,
- 26:11Speaker 6: so now Italy is given up six.
- 26:15Speaker 7: So if Mexico, I don't know.
- 26:18Speaker 6: What the third time breaker is, but if Mexico scores
- 26:21Speaker 6: six runs, then the US is in. Now Mexico, Mexico
- 26:26Speaker 6: wins and it's less than six runs, then I'm pretty sure.
- 26:33Speaker 7: US is in. This is it is.
- 26:38Speaker 4: It's like travel all over again, it is, right, Hey, listen.
- 26:43Speaker 5: I was at a travel ball tournament the other day
- 26:45Speaker 5: in Houston, and there's time restrictions on stuff. So coaches
- 26:49Speaker 5: are coming out talking to their guy a little bit
- 26:51Speaker 5: like there's gonna be some cat and mouse going on here.
- 26:54Speaker 5: There's no time restrictions on these games. But man, imagine
- 26:58Speaker 5: you're up five to nothing, base is loaded and you're like,
- 27:01Speaker 5: we're good. We'll get the final three outs in the
- 27:03Speaker 5: nine like it's uh, it's interesting, it's very interesting. I
- 27:08Speaker 5: think you play to win the game and don't don't
- 27:10Speaker 5: worry about the run score.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Get as many as you can, but it's gonna be
- 27:15Speaker 4: talked about.
- 27:16Speaker 6: Todd, give me the lock for tomorrow. Does Mexico score.
- 27:22Speaker 6: I'm setting the over under a five and a half
- 27:24Speaker 6: just for Mexico's runs.
- 27:28Speaker 5: Itly's been very good. I think it's another low scoring game.
- 27:33Speaker 5: I do, I don't. I don't think. I I think
- 27:37Speaker 5: it's gonna be like a four to three, four to
- 27:39Speaker 5: three game. I think Italy wins though. I think they're
- 27:41Speaker 5: riding this wave, and I think it only Italy finds
- 27:45Speaker 5: a way to come out going undefeated.
- 27:47Speaker 6: I mean Italy scored with a bottom of the lineup Italy.
- 27:50Speaker 6: Italy's top of the lineup scores in this game. Mexico.
- 27:55Speaker 6: Do we know who's starting for Mexico?
- 27:58Speaker 3: They barely. It's probably bullpen game. I don't know.
- 28:01Speaker 2: They didn't know on the broadcast tonight, so I'm not sure.
- 28:03Speaker 2: It's not like MLB where you can see the probables
- 28:06Speaker 2: that easily, right, So I'm not sure to be honest.
- 28:10Speaker 2: I mean, I know. The crazy thing with Team Mexico
- 28:12Speaker 2: too is that's been the problem for them. I mean
- 28:14Speaker 2: there's like six seven starters in the bigs that they
- 28:17Speaker 2: just don't have for this go round. Guy like Tosh Bradley.
- 28:22Speaker 2: We talked about Cody Ponce, this is his first go
- 28:25Speaker 2: round back in MLB. Whatever, it doesn't matter. I don't know.
- 28:28Speaker 2: We will definitely know by tomorrow. We'll know that we'll
- 28:30Speaker 2: get the exact tiebreaker scenarios played out. They usually post
- 28:35Speaker 2: that too, and I will say, I do want to
- 28:38Speaker 2: get your take here, guys. The world is all about
- 28:44Speaker 2: viral moments in sports. It happens very frequently, right or
- 28:47Speaker 2: at least we played to some of that today. It was,
- 28:49Speaker 2: you know, Randy Rosearina responding to Kyle Riley. But then
- 28:51Speaker 2: we got to play watch the game right tonight. And
- 28:54Speaker 2: obviously Brandy's not in this game tonight, but that was
- 28:56Speaker 2: the storyline throughout the day, stuff going hyper viral on
- 28:59Speaker 2: social Right now, it's Team USA loses, the manager misspoke
- 29:04Speaker 2: and didn't know that they hadn't made it yet. Then
- 29:08Speaker 2: they take the clip down. It's just why ag MLB
- 29:12Speaker 2: took the clip off the website. Guys, this isn't nineteen ninety.
- 29:17Speaker 2: You can't erase shit. It's on the enternance, it's there,
- 29:21Speaker 2: Like what taking it down makes it worse? Then you're
- 29:23Speaker 2: gonna go viral for that. Just just leave it. Let
- 29:27Speaker 2: the person come on after likedro did and he said
- 29:29Speaker 2: he misspoke, Okay, apologize. I mean, it's still kind of
- 29:34Speaker 2: crazy that.
- 29:35Speaker 3: That was the case. But it's just it's twenty twenty six.
- 29:41Speaker 3: You can't delete stuff.
- 29:42Speaker 2: It was up already, So I mean, I will say Todd,
- 29:49Speaker 2: I was just gonna say I'm friends with Zero. I've
- 29:51Speaker 2: known him for years. I worked with him a ton
- 29:52Speaker 2: He's a great dude. I really enjoyed hanging with him.
- 29:54Speaker 2: One of the guys, right, it's a great guy. But
- 29:59Speaker 2: he's going to be on the heat. USA lost last time.
- 30:02Speaker 2: This is a brutal loss this time. And part of
- 30:05Speaker 2: his job is recruiting, and you look at the way
- 30:08Speaker 2: that the US might have just been eliminated tonight is
- 30:11Speaker 2: a rookie starting pitcher who has good stuff but is
- 30:15Speaker 2: not battle tested.
- 30:16Speaker 3: And then Yarborough comes in.
- 30:18Speaker 2: And then the game was kind of I don't want
- 30:20Speaker 2: to say over because they came back late, but the
- 30:22Speaker 2: game was in a tough spot. They put them in
- 30:24Speaker 2: a significant hole. And the problem I have is we
- 30:26Speaker 2: talked for years about the WBC and tm USA needed
- 30:28Speaker 2: to throw their best arms out there in the big moments.
- 30:32Speaker 2: They didn't have that tonight. I mean, even isn't Clay
- 30:35Speaker 2: Holmes available tonight? Where was he at out of the bullpen.
- 30:39Speaker 4: I think two things for me that stood out a
- 30:41Speaker 4: little bit.
- 30:42Speaker 5: He talked in the interview during the game, He's like,
- 30:45Speaker 5: you know, kind of nonchalantly, He's like, yeah, we just
- 30:47Speaker 5: got to get yard Borough in there.
- 30:48Speaker 4: He wanted to get him a little more extended.
- 30:50Speaker 5: And you know, it seemed like it was just like
- 30:54Speaker 5: that happy go lucky, Like there wasn't that that fire
- 30:58Speaker 5: from d Row to get.
- 30:59Speaker 4: His boy's going to win that game.
- 31:01Speaker 5: And then you know the other thing for me was,
- 31:03Speaker 5: I think you got to start Harper no matter what.
- 31:06Speaker 4: You got to keep him going, get his bat in
- 31:08Speaker 4: the lineup.
- 31:09Speaker 5: And you know, no offense to Paul Goldsmith, He's not
- 31:11Speaker 5: the Paul Goldsmith of old.
- 31:13Speaker 4: I remember playing against him.
- 31:14Speaker 5: He was one of the top you know, in my
- 31:16Speaker 5: opinion when he was hot, one of the top five
- 31:18Speaker 5: hitters in baseball. That's how good he was. But right
- 31:22Speaker 5: now he's not that guy. You put Harper in there.
- 31:24Speaker 5: He's there for the big moments and you never know
- 31:26Speaker 5: what really could have happened. You know, it just seemed
- 31:29Speaker 5: like a different USA team from Jump Street, and that
- 31:32Speaker 5: that was the difference. You got to come out rear
- 31:35Speaker 5: and rock and ready to go.
- 31:37Speaker 6: Obviously more will come out. Obviously d Row isn't afraid
- 31:40Speaker 6: of the camera. He'll he'll say things. But miss spoken
- 31:46Speaker 6: to me when I watch that, and you have to
- 31:48Speaker 6: go back and you have to watch it yourself. We
- 31:50Speaker 6: played it at the beginning of the of this clip
- 31:53Speaker 6: of this postgame show. If he misspoke to me, his
- 31:59Speaker 6: whole demeanor and this whole like he believed that they
- 32:03Speaker 6: were in. I don't think that's miss I don't think
- 32:06Speaker 6: he misspoke. At the end of the game when they
- 32:08Speaker 6: were losing there, they had Kershaw warming up before Mason
- 32:11Speaker 6: Miller came in. Did he find out during that game
- 32:15Speaker 6: that they are not in if they lose this game?
- 32:17Speaker 6: Did he find it out when they're down eight to nothing,
- 32:19Speaker 6: Because if Kershall comes in, Kershall may shut the door. Absolutely,
- 32:25Speaker 6: Kirshall could give up two more runs now all of
- 32:27Speaker 6: a sudden, Now, all of a sudden. So to me,
- 32:30Speaker 6: everything lines up. If it smells like it, then it
- 32:34Speaker 6: must be true because everything lines up. When I watched
- 32:37Speaker 6: his body language what he said, I think they truly
- 32:41Speaker 6: thought they were in I'm not.
- 32:44Speaker 7: Maybe I'm getting deeked. And I have been deeped before.
- 32:47Speaker 6: And you can say things incorrectly, like I say something that, oh, well,
- 32:52Speaker 6: you know Todd grew up in Longshank, New Jersey. No,
- 32:56Speaker 6: he grew up in Tom's River. Okay, I misspoke. That's misspoken.
- 33:00Speaker 6: Like to me, I think everything was lining up, and
- 33:03Speaker 6: he showed me that. That's what the whole staff thought.
- 33:07Speaker 6: Everybody thought that that's where. That's what I'm reading. But
- 33:10Speaker 6: we'll have to find out more from d.
- 33:11Speaker 2: Ro And there's a lot of scenarios. Like people are
- 33:15Speaker 2: going nuts with the scenarios. He's like, it's not that simple,
- 33:18Speaker 2: crazy variable Mexico wins by two, but they do it
- 33:20Speaker 2: in extras. Then us gets in because then it goes
- 33:22Speaker 2: by like the innings quote Shent matters here too.
- 33:25Speaker 3: There's a lot right there.
- 33:27Speaker 2: So we'll spend like maybe we'll do a segment tomorrow
- 33:30Speaker 2: just going over that on the daytime FT Show because
- 33:33Speaker 2: because somebody way smarter than us is going to lay
- 33:35Speaker 2: it all out in a bunch of score scenarios. But
- 33:38Speaker 2: playing to what Kratz said, Clayton Kershaw is there, they
- 33:43Speaker 2: said as the break glass in case of emergency.
- 33:46Speaker 3: That was not tonight right.
- 33:49Speaker 2: So if he I think they thought it was right,
- 33:52Speaker 2: it's either we're out of pitching, which was the problem
- 33:55Speaker 2: we've been talking about for years with all the rules
- 33:58Speaker 2: and we don't want to have guys that are on
- 33:59Speaker 2: all these rules and nobody can pitch, or they didn't
- 34:02Speaker 2: know what the situation was because it's all gonna come
- 34:04Speaker 2: down to how many runs everyone's scoring. I don't know
- 34:09Speaker 2: if that question got asked because we've been talking during
- 34:10Speaker 2: the pressure. But wow, that's a game that fires me up.

- 34:20Speaker 2: time for the World Baseball Classic and for Team USA

- 34:27Speaker 2: just the physicality that like the physical components of them losing,
- 34:30Speaker 2: like the mental components.
- 34:31Speaker 3: What the hell are we doing?
- 34:32Speaker 2: So we'll see now they just watch their destiny is
- 34:35Speaker 2: not in their control tonight, I mean tomorrow night now,
- 34:38Speaker 2: but I guess tonight because it's already passed that time,
- 34:40Speaker 2: it's going to be ridiculous. So we'll finish with this.
