Transcript
- 0:01[SPEAKER_00]: time for the 49ers rush podcast.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_00]: And here's your host, John Chapman.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: What is going on faithful?
- 0:38[SPEAKER_01]: It's great to be with you already a little bit miss that.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: My mouse died.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_01]: As soon as I went to click, you know, I click, go live and then it died.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: So I couldn't even pull the camera up.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's got to be a fun live show today, ladies and gentlemen.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: I want to say thank you for being with us today.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty pumped about today because one we're continuing our roster countdown series.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: We have number 73 to 69 and for those of you keeping track at home.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_01]: I thought we already did number 73.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_01]: We did.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: But when the 40 hours make a roster move, we have to insert another person if we've already covered some.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: So the 90 man becomes a 95 becomes a 99 man by the time it's all said and done.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: And probably the reason why I'm most
- 1:23[SPEAKER_01]: Ashton Davis is the newest addition.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: He's got to come in.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we put him in at the very next number whenever the 40 hours make a change, but if I'm going to be very honest with you, if I had to re-rank where Ashton Davis, the 49ers knew safety newest addition to the team would be ranked on the countdown.
- 1:41[SPEAKER_01]: It'd be in the 50s.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe upper 40s, but probably the 50s.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: This is a very, very important player.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: He's coveted number 73 on our count now.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_01]: We'll we'll get into all the different stuff that's going on.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's already taken second team reps at OTAs.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a long standing history with the 49ers coaching staff.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: Love this guy.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_01]: I have been clamoring since before the draft.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is a very easy signing that won't cost much at all experience has what you don't have in the safety room.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's what we're going to be starting off with.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: This is episode 1,657 of the 49ers rush podcast, which I mean, so excited to be with you guys again.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you for all the hashtag CCs, the countdown crew coming in strong with a monkey.
- 2:32[SPEAKER_01]: We got howdy.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: Campero, you guys are the best.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_01]: Great to see everybody.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's Saturday, man.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: Why not talk some 49ers football?
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: What else we got going on?
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of stuff going on, but
- 2:45[SPEAKER_01]: You always got to make time for these Niners.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: I'll tell it.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate you, Mandy says, love that you do these better understand the roster moves and competition to make the team.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's the whole goal.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: The amount of time that goes into these countdown videos is much more than our average episode.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: And definitely not me by myself, shout out to Ben, Josh Zach, they are our crew that represents the countdown and just it man, all the pages and pages what we have 85 pages of notes and counting on this countdown ring to one through 90 and the premise is this.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_01]: which players have the largest or most important impact on the 20, 20, 26 season alone?
- 3:27[SPEAKER_01]: Not about long term, just this year.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: We rank 1391, all four of us.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: We average them all out, that gives us the 1391.
- 3:36[SPEAKER_01]: And then we just start diving into details.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: And very similar to what Atomic said, like, I want you to know the ins and outs of every single roster battle, whether that's fighting for a practice squad spot, fighting for the 53.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: fighting for starting reps or shoot.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to be a likely captain in this team now.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: We're at 73 through 69 today, not a lot of starters, but
- 4:04[SPEAKER_01]: Let's kick it off.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Ash did Davis comes in number 73 because he is the newest addition to the roster.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Those are the rules by which we've done this.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_01]: And we're on like I think six year.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a 22 23 24 25 this fifth year that we've been keeping track of these.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_01]: And this is somebody that could start and that barrels came out just two or three days ago, it said man, do not count out Marquis Eagle, do not count out Ashton Davis as potential starting safety's week one and Australia like that is a very very real
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: opportunity for this player because Ashton Davis has something none of the 49ers have.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: And that is experience at the safety position.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_01]: Malach Mustafa is definitely the favorite.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: Then you know that that number two spot.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: Marky Seagull, Jaya Brown.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_01]: I think they want Jaya Brown to win it.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_01]: His upsides there for sure.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: The ball skills are there.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_01]: But then comes in Ashton Davis, 29 year old safety.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_01]: A former third round pick.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_01]: He was drafted higher than any of these players.
- 5:13[SPEAKER_01]: He was a 68th pick overall.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: Very high third round pick.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Back in 2020 and men, let's just go through the profile that is Ashden Davis.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: Where in Jersey number 29 he's 6125 ideal bill for a safety 29 years old local kid.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: uh... from Santa Cruz california with Santa Cruz high went to cal Berkeley and the funny thing is his pathway to the NFL is big-time different he was a track guy this dude was a four-time all-american track athlete packed twelve champion in the hurdles set the cal still the cal school record um...
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: 7.64 in the 60 meter hurdles third best in the country that year like this dude is a stud stud stud athlete speed hurdles was his event but like you look at you ran a 10 7 in the 100 like speed he's not fast that that does not do ashton Davis
- 6:21[SPEAKER_01]: justice and use a well he's 29 make no qualms about it you have a four three safety and marky seagull ash and Davis is still faster than him despite being five years older I do not care you put you put every seagull 49ers player on the line of scrimmage and you have a 40 hour dash ash and Davis is going to be the champion of that entire roster that there's there's speed there's football speed there's track speed track speeds different ash and Davis is fast no matter what world or what
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: at 29 years old don't give a damn fast the need for speed is there i mean just blazer this dude's a blazer got laser blazer all types of laser um ashtendavis is different whenever it comes to speed and the niders have kind of
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: Shied away for the most part, speed at the safety position.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_01]: They love that strong safety type, that extra linebacker type, and it's cost them time and time again, because you don't have speed on the back end.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_01]: You just don't have it.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_01]: They don't value that.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Ashton Davis, a marquee, seagulled a little bit of a change up.
- 7:25[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you go back to Ashton Davis's college tenure, okay?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: He was a stud college track athlete played for Cal Football was great.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_01]: Get drafted in the third round by the Jets.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: Number 68th overall, 2020 draft.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_01]: Niners didn't have a third round pick that year.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: That's the third round pick that was trade for Trent Williams.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: One of the greatest NFL trades in the history of the NFL unbelievable.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_01]: And it's funny because he was drafted as a safety, obviously.
- 7:54[SPEAKER_01]: And he is a safety, obviously.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: But he's also a core special teams player.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_01]: Anybody want to guess who the special teams coach was of the 2020 Jets when they drafted them.
- 8:08[SPEAKER_01]: Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, brand boyer, the current 49er special teams coach.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_01]: Brand boyer was with them not one year, not two year, not three years, not four year, five consecutive seasons.
- 8:18[SPEAKER_01]: Brand boyer coach this guy as a starting safety.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_01]: And as the special team stud, Ashad Davis has over 1,200 career special team snaps.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_01]: You play everywhere.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, literally every single specialty is punt, punt return, kick off, kick off return, even feel gold block.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's on all of it.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_01]: And the only thing he's not on is extra point, feel gold.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: All the other spent like, and so the more and more you dive in to Ashden Davis and the 49ers, dude.
- 8:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's a better special teamer than any other safety they have.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe not see her in the ilk this point in his career.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: But it's just like man, the ways in which he can make this roster.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's there, Ash Davis has active snaps as the dime Big Nickel guy.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: Ashden Davis has free safety starts.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_01]: Ashden Davis has strong safety.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_01]: He has special teams like there's just so many ways the versatility and the speed and the IQ and the football savviness.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's just there with this kid.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: Ed, it just seems so easy for him to make this roster yet.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_01]: These three young plups fight in for safety and end comes this aging vet.
- 9:32[SPEAKER_01]: I've said this time and time again, Niners do not value safety when they could just pick up and experience veteran off the street and he could become a guy, Tashon Gibson, right?
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like this has happened and happened and happened and happened.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really like this player, Ed, you know, I was clamoring, you know, me and Larry, he asked, you know, one of his common questions off season.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: If you could pick up anybody off the street for the 49ers roster, Ashley Davis has been my answer for months.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_01]: It just made too much sense.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_01]: Finally happens, and I'm just like, hell yeah, hell yeah.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_01]: Now.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_01]: Ashley Davis did have a quad injury.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_01]: He was, this is the 49ers is 13.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: He was with the Jets for five years, last year was with the Miami Dolphins.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's with the 49ers.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_01]: Had a quad injury in 2025, missed a couple games, but like it wasn't like a major, it was like a thigh bruise would be my assumption and best I could find looking it up.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_01]: But still started 12 games last year played in 15.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: Was it great?
- 10:37[SPEAKER_01]: I had seven over 700 snaps.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: Was not used special teams at all in Miami.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: He was just the starting safety.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_01]: Remember they traded away Mika.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: They brought him in to take that spot.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: Played fairly well.
- 10:51[SPEAKER_01]: Not great.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: Not great.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: 65 tackle.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: He's a tackling machine.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_01]: Three tackle for loss, one force fumble, four pass breakups, one pick.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: PFS scores really low, 52 coverage grade, 49 run defense, but if you know anything about Miami, that defense was rough last year, bad, bad, bad.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_01]: Niners defense looked all pro compared to what Miami was putting out there.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_01]: 40 tires bring him in on a one year, 1.7 million dollar deal, way more than the minimum, and 285,000 guaranteed.
- 11:23[SPEAKER_01]: Again, way more than the minimum.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's not big enough for the 49ers to not walk away from it.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_01]: If he doesn't earn that spot.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not like he has a guaranteed spot.
- 11:39[SPEAKER_01]: But it took Jerry Gray and Rahim Morris four practices with their current safety's before they brought this due to it.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I stole that from KP, shout out to KP, United Nation, he's the man, copozy.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_01]: He put that out there at Twitter.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: I started laughing.
- 11:56[SPEAKER_01]: I retweeted it and I was burning into my brain.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: the safety's are a mess.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's a mess.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_01]: They're young.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: And there's potential in that safety room, but what does potential mean?
- 12:06[SPEAKER_01]: It means you ain't done it yet.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: And not none of them most often included have been consistent players.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: Consistency seems to be the theme of the 40 hours, 20, 26 offseason.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Let's go get some experience vets that you know exactly what you're getting play and play out.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_01]: Let's make it happen.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: Astrid Davis fits that.
- 12:29[SPEAKER_01]: Another value-based contract, 1.7 million, not breaking the bank whatsoever.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: Still get a row four that 70 million, which kind of have to because the capiers are so bananas the next two seasons for the 49ers.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: This is just such a wonderful signing.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_01]: I really, really like them.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_01]: I put man, he's like a 50 50 shot to make this roster I want to go above I want to say it's like a 60 40 shot to make the roster action Davis and one of the first players in our roster count that we start 91 you only keep 53.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: Ashton Davis has a very real likelihood of joining the 49ers roster and making it onto the 53 might not make the initial 53 could to be one of those shanny hand handshake deals where you bring back the veteran and say hey we're going to guarantee Put you on the practice squad and elevate you first two weeks.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_01]: That type of guy.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_01]: But make no mistake.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: Ashton Davis is in the mix.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_01]: Ashton Davis is in the mix.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'm pretty excited.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_01]: So I want to take some break before we move on through the rest of our countdown.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's our right up on Ashton Davis, shout out to Josh, jump it on that one, Johnny, on the spot.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to a couple more of these kind of question marks and comments that we have.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_01]: Not just Stone Ashton Davis, but the safety position and hope because I'm going to be very honestly, this is the weakest position group on the Forty Anniversary roster.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: not throw in center.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_01]: I'm cool with that.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_01]: But you at least know who's starting at center, even if you don't like it.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: But safety tight in center, those are the spots.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_01]: Calle, what's up, man?
- 14:24[SPEAKER_01]: He says, Seagull's greater than Brown, I agree.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I do agree.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: It big time, big time.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: Howdy.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: Davis has the speed and game reps to make a legitimate run at starting.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: This dude has played an 84 games for his career.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: Ashton Davis, he's played a lot of damn football.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: It is there, the speed, you ain't got to worry about that.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: Tommy, what's up, Tommy, man, glad you're back home.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: Getting ready for a gig, thanks for intersaying while I pack up, bro, too, go make that money, shred them up, big dog.
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: Josh, we got Josh in the house four hours faithful forever 90.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's the one that helps us with all these background reports and everything.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's the freaking man monkey.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's great during the preseason going who's number a question mark.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, it's so-and-so.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: They work their butt off to get here and they're still at it.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: That's the goal.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_01]: I get these, you know, sometimes messages and DMs from family members of players, which is cool because how many people are putting these episodes out,
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: of back into the roster guys not a lot and so it's kind of cool like to participate in that but my favorite thing is whenever I get a message from a supporter that says do solve so it's so I know all about them now and I'm cheering for them in the preseason game they make a tackle for loss or reception or special teams tackle and it's like yeah we want to increase the fan experience the more knowledge and know how of these players the better time you're going to have watching 40 hours preseason.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_01]: now we're trying to turn you into hardcore faithful members that that's look at the hat man says faithful fan of fans that that's what we do here appreciate you love all your awesome um atomic seems like we have got a lot more focus on speed which I like to prevent getting burnt it on the backends been bad.
- 16:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's a shit-a-head show to speed at the defense of back position as not been valued.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_01]: Whether that's a robber, solid thing, shenanthane, john lynch thing, whatever.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: Has it been a court trait that they have targeted?
- 16:27[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe this changes.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: Price-awks quick, man.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: Seagulls quick, man.
- 16:32[SPEAKER_01]: Ashadeva is quick, man.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: You're getting some of that.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: Lava Sigo has shown major talent he does best tackler on the team despite his down moments remember the eagle playoff game he was rollin' dude.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: I want Sigo to start.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: If I had it my way it'd be Malik Mustafa and Marquis Sigo.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_01]: Those would be my two starters.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I'd throw Gyer Brown on special teams and I'd throw Ashton Davis on special teams and then
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: I would probably rotate safety is a little bit more than they do the 49ers never rotate back in players.
- 17:07[SPEAKER_01]: I wish that they would.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: I just think it allows for more learning whenever you step off the field for a series and you're standing next to your defensive backs coach and you can coach up and say now watch this.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: You see this.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: Watch their two to one movement here.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: This is what I want you to do.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_01]: You got it now.
- 17:24[SPEAKER_01]: You see it now.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: You hear me now.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_01]: And I know you do these side line adjustments and stuff like that.
- 17:31[SPEAKER_01]: Man, I get other people more reps and I don't think it has to be you have to play a hundred percent of snaps all the time.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_01]: I don't see that.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: But that's what it is.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_01]: Big brick.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_01]: It always blows from mine.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: The 40 hours value safety.
- 17:48[SPEAKER_01]: So little given Lynch's careers of safety, they do not care about the position at all and they will not.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_01]: They drafted an all
- 17:59[SPEAKER_01]: Huff goes signs elsewhere, all proceeds, and again, defense has not been the same since Tologna who fungus not been back there.
- 18:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I know there are some huff detractors and thank you as terrible and all that stuff.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_01]: Pretty hard to argue with the two time all prosafety man picked in the fifth round.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, right, I felt like who fungal was still in the draft, just a little go.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: The really wish we had kept them really wish we would have kept them.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: I freaking love that dude.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it is right here.
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: Josh, love price sock more though.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, price sock man, he's got to be a corner.
- 18:35[SPEAKER_01]: Eventually maybe could fell at corner then go to safety.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think he's going to get safety snaps this season.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't, I don't see it.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: Davis has enough years under his belt to not be subjected to waivers, right?
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: He's a vested vet.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he is.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he is.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: So you can do the Shannon hand hand shake deal, where you say, look, we're going to cut you.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_01]: You're not going to make the 53, but we're going to throw you some more guaranteed money.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_01]: Bring you back on the practice squad.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to guarantee elevator week one.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_01]: That is the Shannon hand state body.
- 19:05[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't usually at the wide receiver position, but you could do that to safety position as well very easily.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to be this year more than ever.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: And as we go through this countdown, I think you're going to start to realize, 2026 49ers roster is not 2025 or 2024.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_01]: Way more competition, way more depth than they have had in the last two years.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_01]: Last year's 53 men roster was the easiest to predict.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_01]: Easiest.
- 19:34[SPEAKER_01]: You knew who was making it was so top heavy and then you had all those draft picks and then nothing yet, no veteran backup depth at all.
- 19:44[SPEAKER_01]: they made that change.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: This year is going to be difficult.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_01]: That 53 man, you know, we do are the 49ers rush.com where we put up all of our breakdowns and go check it out.
- 19:54[SPEAKER_01]: We got multiple videos on all the rookies go check it out.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_01]: We do zoom hanging out once a month.
- 20:01[SPEAKER_01]: And one of my favorite meetings we do every year is trying to predict a 53 man roster.
- 20:06[SPEAKER_01]: We do that together.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_01]: And so it goes out up the four hours rush.com or pay tron channel.
- 20:10[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be doing that once, you know, the season gets closer, but we will have a zoom hang out later this month as well.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: Seven day free trial.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: Go check it out.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's how I pay the bills.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_01]: How I feed the family.
- 20:20[SPEAKER_01]: If you like what we do here, we have tears all the way down for $2.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_01]: All the way up to, you know, way past $20, $20 probably the highest content.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: area that we go, but like go check it out.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: And if you like it, man, again, that's that's how we live.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_01]: That's how we live over here.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_01]: Lava, I think Mustafa's injury stifled his progress.
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: He's real talent.
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: Should show this year.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: Interies affect players development.
- 20:47[SPEAKER_01]: There is no doubt about that.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: To be in the top shape that your body could physically be in, then get injured.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_01]: overcome that entry, but not only overcome the entry, you can't train the way you want to train when you're injured.
- 21:04[SPEAKER_01]: You just can't.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: You just can't.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_01]: I jacked up my shoulder, man.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like obviously, nobody's been taking me for a pro athlete, but like I jacked up my shoulder sleeping.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_01]: That's the age I'm at.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: I can't do bench to save my life.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's been like two and a half weeks.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: Can't do shoulders, I could do some back, but it's like, good Lord, like what chest exercises can I do with a bum shoulder, like imagine you're a pro athlete and you have a lower body injury?
- 21:34[SPEAKER_01]: Can't do sprints, can't do squats?
- 21:37[SPEAKER_01]: Can't do any of that stuff.
- 21:39[SPEAKER_01]: Now you get over the injury, then you get a train but how long does it take you to train to get to that peak performance to compete against the world's best athletes?
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: The little mistakes, the little injuries, hinder you so much, it just throw you off.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_01]: You're not at your best.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: I do think that that's what happened in Dominique Pune.
- 22:01[SPEAKER_01]: So I have it at CJ West.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's what happened in Georgia, James.
- 22:04[SPEAKER_01]: So it's what happened in Malat, Mustafa.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's what happened in Ricky Pearsaw.
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's what I would Jacob Gowain.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_01]: You go on and on and on with this roster.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Injuries are not just time missed.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: Those are two different things.
- 22:21[SPEAKER_01]: You might miss three games.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to affect you for seven.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: That's just the way it goes.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_01]: What's up, Captain?
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate your man.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_01]: Khalil, that open-field tackle, Seagull had on Devante Smith was a thing in beauty.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's hard to bring down Devante Smith and flag football.
- 22:38[SPEAKER_01]: That dude just goes out there, freaking eagle wings.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, eyes up, run through what you hit.
- 22:45[SPEAKER_01]: Man, bite the ball, wrap up.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I said this, you know, Marky seagulls one of my favorite players coming out of that draft just because it was like, dude, this guy is a designated 10 out of 10, 9 or I don't give a damn what anybody says.
- 22:58[SPEAKER_01]: And it translates.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's just got to get there and coverage and the funny thing is he is there and cover just got to make plays and coverage.
- 23:04[SPEAKER_01]: He's where he should be, but she got to put fear in the quarterback's eyes.
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: The quarterback looks up and sees you and says, well, I can still throw it.
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: That guy don't make plays on the ball, even if he is covered, he's open.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's the issue.
- 23:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, one of my favorite rooks as well, uh, love that dude.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_01]: Man, um, love that dude.
- 23:22[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, Josh right here, love this.
- 23:24[SPEAKER_01]: John off topic.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: But if we suffer another entry at tight in, that may cost our season, it's bad at tight in now.
- 23:35[SPEAKER_01]: The assumption the 49ers have and they're kiddo to, they're putting this out like crazy.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_01]: He could be ready, weak one.
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: He could be ready, weak one.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: He could be, there's a lot of could.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_01]: based in that.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: Because if he can't go weak one, all right, Jake conscious is proven.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: He could fill in and be a viable option in the receiving game, but Luke Ferrell has proven time and time and again, when kiddo is out, he cannot play up to the Titan one.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: He cannot.
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Again, Jake conscious, awesome.
- 24:07[SPEAKER_01]: He receiving, he's not
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: After that, you got nothing.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_01]: Cleal Dinkens, not even out there practicing.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_01]: Undrafted free agent.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_01]: You need him to get those reps. Titans bad.
- 24:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now the good news for the 49ers, it's such a cheap position that's been discarded by the NFL that guess what?
- 24:35[SPEAKER_01]: There are tight ends still out there.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_01]: that you could go get.
- 24:39[SPEAKER_01]: Zachart still out there.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I don't want to put Darren Waller will just say some hill that would be kind of fun.
- 24:45[SPEAKER_01]: Harrison Bryant, Robert Tony and just signed with the Steelers, Anthony Furks.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_01]: Like, there are guys that you could go get none of those guys are like, ooh, we got to have them.
- 24:58[SPEAKER_01]: We got to have them.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: But there are guys that are like, okay, they can come in.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_01]: and do what you need to do.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_01]: So do they bring in more tight ends?
- 25:09[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure they will, they have them, they have them on the roster and we have another tight end on today's countdown.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: So I'm going to, I'm going to park those tight end questions until, you know, we, we, we, we get to that player.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: Look at monkey.
- 25:26[SPEAKER_01]: What kind of exercise can I do with the bum shoulder?
- 25:29[SPEAKER_01]: Beer,
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: I have like the little coffee table to the right and like that's the issue.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_01]: I can't reach my arm Latterally and then lift up.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: So like beer lifting hurts right now.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_01]: I want to be honest with you.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like I've got to like bring the coffee in then lift I can't do the out yeah that hurt that hurt that I'm whoever my physical therapist for it is
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: that's what it is.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_01]: Um, yeah.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: That's what it is.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_01]: Um, how do you know, feels like juice may temporarily be the fix that tight in Bobby Turner mentioned.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's been in the tight in room.
- 26:09[SPEAKER_01]: They tried to do that week too last year and then juice got hurt.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_01]: And so that does help some just allow that dude.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_01]: to he could do a lot of the same things.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: He really, really can't.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's move on to our count number 72, probably one of the least light outside of the 49ers building, most light inside the 49ers building.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: Number 72, Nick Zickel.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, man, um, Brock parties roommate, you know, they love them all that stuff.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: You know, he's he's he's awesome.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's just he has not been able to make an impact for the 49ers whatsoever.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_01]: You look at his, he's been with the 49er since we've been counting down these count down.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: So 2022 is a 56, 2023 was 52 last year, or sorry, 2024, 73 last year, 41 finally thought he was going to make a jump and still nothing, still nothing, back down to 72.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: So he jumped up 32 spots for last year, back down 31.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_01]: But just a guy that is, you know, I don't want to say just a guy, jag right, that's what they call him.
- 27:27[SPEAKER_01]: He just can't fight his way on to this roster.
- 27:29[SPEAKER_01]: He just can't.
- 27:30[SPEAKER_01]: But the team loves him so much.
- 27:31[SPEAKER_01]: I keep bringing him back.
- 27:33[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody else wants him.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_01]: And he's just one of those utility.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: You know, center guard, whatever that just can't play in the games, where's Jersey number 63 65 315 was as close to a gold helmet guy as they had in the draft that they got them in went to Fordham, smart as hell, Brexfield Broadway high school really smart guy got accepted into Yale chose Fordham because he wanted to play a make to the NFL, which he achieved.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: He's done that.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: You know, if you look at team captain, you know, whatever else he was awesome, drafted by the Niners going into year five, parties roommate just hasn't improved at all.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: I was at the training camp that time they moved him to center and they fired him from center the same practice.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: Next year, they moved him to center again.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: Now he's out there helping with center quarterback
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what he could do.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: He can run block.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_01]: He just can't pass block for anything.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_01]: He was drafted in 2022, sixth round, pick 187 overall.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_01]: And the 49ers got that pick by trading Jonas Griffith.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: You remember him?
- 28:44[SPEAKER_01]: He was all the 49ers rush.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: Really fun player.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_01]: He traded him to the Broncos.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_01]: Malcolm Rodriguez, linebacker went to pick after Nixiekelle which hurts.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, Nixiekelle's played in the 29 games.
- 28:58[SPEAKER_01]: He's a debt piece towards Bicep in 2023 played in two games last year.
- 29:05[SPEAKER_01]: We seven and eight, 34 snaps.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: It's not good.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_01]: 48 run blocking grade 26 pass pro grade like, and that's in junk time.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_01]: He's on a one year, 1.2 million no guarantees.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_01]: He's made $3 million in his career.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: And he's at the back of the back of the back.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_01]: of this 49ers roster whenever you're looking just at, you know, offensive line.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's just not good.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Dominique Poonie, Connor Colby, Brett Tauth, Robert Jones, Carver Willis, Nick Zekell, is behind all of them considerably.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that there's a way that Nick Zekell makes this roster.
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot find it, but it's also pretty damn hard to figure out if Nick Zekell's going to be on anything but the practice question, because I think you will.
- 29:54[SPEAKER_01]: These are the types of guys that the 40 and I just just love to hang on to because he's a hard worker because he's smart because they like him in the locker room because He's, you know, one of those guys
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: but he's not very good.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_01]: He is just not very good.
- 30:14[SPEAKER_01]: So next to kill, he comes in number 72.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to be really, really honest.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: Number 71, one of my favorite players on this countdown.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm pretty excited about him.
- 30:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's James Thompson Jr.
- 30:27[SPEAKER_01]: Priority for Agent with upside upside upside.
- 30:30[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to be talking about him right after this.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: 49ers rush road trip is going into it's sixth year with over 40 events at road games.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: If you are traveling to see the 49ers play this year, you got to come party with us.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: And on top of that, we give games, trivia, giveaways.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: We partnered with tick pick this year.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: All you have to do is search 49ers rush on any of the tick pick sites, apps, you name it, and on top of all of that.
- 30:58[SPEAKER_01]: best dressed, giveaways, autographed jerseys, kids are always included and get in for free with a ticketed adult.
- 31:05[SPEAKER_01]: And a lot of times for select cities, we will have 49ers legends come out and you get to meet and greet them and get autographed.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: Vorrow Bowman, Frank Gore, Patrick Willis, Fred Warner, are all players that we have worked with in the past and trust me.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: If you want to build the 49ers community, you're traveling by yourself, we got you covered 49ers Rushroadrip.com.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_01]: Man, we're gonna be in Australia, Mexico, Atlanta, Dallas, and Seattle this year.
- 31:37[SPEAKER_01]: Also looking to add some home games and I gotta say, man, shout out to the wonderful Meho.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_01]: She got me this awesome 49ers faithful down under patch.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: It is a kangaroo stud, the Niners jersey.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's freaking awesome, man.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot wait.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I can't wait.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: So I hope you're coming with us to Australia.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna be having a good time.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you, Captain.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_01]: Rush party at Seattle all our bad ass man.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: I just can't wait to see you again.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: We always have a good time there Atomic those who haven't gone to a Niners rush a minute.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: You got to go so much fun.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much, man Thank you really appreciate it can't wait to party again and right here Martin says I was hoping for Arizona But I might have to hit Atlanta
- 32:16[SPEAKER_01]: There's a chance we do Arizona put with that flex game the last week of the year.
- 32:19[SPEAKER_01]: It's always kind of hard to plan You know venues travel hotels all that stuff whenever they change it 10 days before we might be in Arizona But it's just it's so hard.
- 32:30[SPEAKER_01]: So we're focusing on those five dates right now Yeah, that patch is freaking awesome man Yeah, shout out to me.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, she's a legend.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to the number 71
- 32:40[SPEAKER_01]: on the roster countdown, James Thompson, Jr. Hight, character, and a major splash player at the defensive line spot.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_01]: Chris Kusarek said, you know, in the interviews this week, we really thought he was going to get drafted.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_01]: We were shocked whenever he wasn't.
- 32:57[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, it's easy for coaches to go out there and just say like, we really like this play, really like this play, but when they put their money where their mouth is, it's a big deal.
- 33:11[SPEAKER_01]: You know, guaranteed salary of any priority free agent.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_01]: The 49ers have given, I think, in the past five seasons, and they're 28th in priority free agent spending in the NFL.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: They're they're bottom five, but James Thompson Jr.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_01]: They spent big time, big time, $280,000 guaranteed, the most the 49ers ever shill out, they like this kid.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_01]: And the defensive tackle room, they value more than any other position.
- 33:41[SPEAKER_01]: quarterback for sure, too, but like they value this spot.
- 33:44[SPEAKER_01]: And the defense of the tackle rooms loaded, like the depth chart, and that that's probably why James Thompson Jr. is at 71.
- 33:50[SPEAKER_01]: You look at the depth room, and it's just like, oh, damn.
- 33:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 33:55[SPEAKER_01]: There are a lot of guys fighting for a job here, but James Thompson Jr.
- 34:00[SPEAKER_01]: He is such a stud.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: Kim bro, look at this.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks for the super chat.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_01]: He says, I'm excited about the home game events.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_01]: Man, we're finalizing that stuff and you know, just getting contract signed and all that stuff.
- 34:11[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, it's going to be fun.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: Not on the 49er scrounds whatsoever.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_01]: We'll never do that again.
- 34:17[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like people tell me what I can and can't do.
- 34:19[SPEAKER_01]: I'm here for the fans.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's what I'm going to do or not do.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: So pretty, pretty excited about this is off.
- 34:25[SPEAKER_01]: But it's right next to the stadium.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_01]: So really, really excited about that.
- 34:28[SPEAKER_01]: More details come out.
- 34:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'll let you know 49ers rushroadtrip.com.
- 34:32[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's going to be fun.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it's going to be fun.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: So James Thompson Jr. comes in defensive tackle.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: Wearing jersey number 75.
- 34:39[SPEAKER_01]: six foot six.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: Dude is huge.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: Three oh eight.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's 23 years old.
- 34:46[SPEAKER_01]: It was at Wisconsin for four seasons.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_01]: Then transferred to Illinois for one year in 2025.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: He's an Ohio kid.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: Went to Roger Bacon High School, finished his a three-star recruit who committed to Wisconsin.
- 35:00[SPEAKER_01]: played both offense and defensive lines in high school three time academic big 10 that is huge now there's value that big time big time big time this is smart kid was a vital piece on the defensive line for Illinois uh finished up as career goes on drafted
- 35:18[SPEAKER_01]: And there's some issues in his tape.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, I'm going to be honest with you.
- 35:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like the potential in the body is awesome.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_01]: The splash plays are great, you know, but consistency, it's not there yet.
- 35:33[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't mean it can't be, it's 23.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_01]: He played 54 games, 100 combined tackles, 15 tackles for lost seven stacks, 31 pass breakups.
- 35:43[SPEAKER_01]: So like you think of a six, six defense of tackle, you want to see some of those pass breakups.
- 35:49[SPEAKER_01]: James Thompson, Jr., he gets his hands up and he messes up the quarterbacks pathway, throwing the ball consistently.
- 35:56[SPEAKER_01]: Dane Brugler of the athletic head of seventh round, great on him, he was not one of the players I graded.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: And again, we had a draftable grade on this kid.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: Now the lack of length, which is weird because he's six, six, right, he's got 31 inch arms those are like corner back arms and he doesn't use his arms well he's got heavy hands, but his pad levels rough James Thompson junior pat pops up way too high he's one of those dancing bear guys that plays under his pads not behind them.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: So he's not like that burst off the line consistent guy.
- 36:31[SPEAKER_01]: He's a splash player.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: He makes linemen miss from time to time and he's got it to develop just a consistency, but the frame is there.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_01]: The intelligence is there.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: The strength is there.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_01]: You know, one of the best bench press guys at the combine as well.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: In short arms.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: I know about that.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, he's got to learn to play behind his pads instead of under him.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like that lateral quickness is good.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's probably one of my favorite things I saw on tape does struggle for stubble teams consistency's not there.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's a push the pocket type of pass rusher, but he's a push the pocket and get into the quarterbacks eyes pass rusher.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_01]: The type of guy that would give Brock pretty fits, right?
- 37:14[SPEAKER_01]: Because he's so huge.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_01]: This dude's freaking five inches taller than Brock pretty gets those, you know, balls back down.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_01]: Dane Briggler had this quote.
- 37:22[SPEAKER_01]: in the beast, quote, overall Thompson is more of a splash player than consistent presence, but he has the tools for disruptive flashes, which will help his pro chances.
- 37:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly it, man.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_01]: And again, gets the priority for agent deal, but 280,000 guarantee the most the Niners gave out.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_01]: But you look at the depth, the defensive tackle room is stacked, man.
- 37:48[SPEAKER_01]: Also, Digi Zua, Alfred Collins, CJ West, Grayson Houghton, Sebastian Valdes, Evan Anderson, James Thompson, Jr. and Bryson, Eason, that is eight, that's eight players, man.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_01]: You don't keep eight, now you just keep five to six defensive tackles, can James Thompson beat out, Evan Anderson, Bryson, Eason, and Sebastian Valdes.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_01]: we'll see because this is one of those guys that could be at claimed.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_01]: You cut them could get claimed.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: Really, really, really like this dude.
- 38:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right here, big Tom, appreciate you, man.
- 38:32[SPEAKER_01]: Will it be a rookie undrafted backups as defensive tackle depth?
- 38:37[SPEAKER_01]: You've got rookies, and so
- 38:42[SPEAKER_01]: Would you rather have Sebastian Valdez, or Evan Anderson, who's not practicing right now, or would you rather have these other two guys with more upside?
- 38:52[SPEAKER_01]: You know, Sebastian Valdez and Evan Anderson are not going to get claimed.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_01]: You know that.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_01]: They've survived an entire season on the waiver wire practice squad.
- 39:02[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody picked them up.
- 39:04[SPEAKER_01]: James Thompson, Jr.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not so sure.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: Bryce and Ethan, I'm not so sure.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: for a team that values this position as much as almost any other position, it's going to be hard.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would not be shocked if at this position, there is one of those Shanahan mystery injuries to kind of shelve a player for a year.
- 39:28[SPEAKER_01]: But then again, like you look at this room,
- 39:31[SPEAKER_01]: Everybody's coming back.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: There are no inspiring contracts.
- 39:34[SPEAKER_01]: Osis got several years left.
- 39:36[SPEAKER_01]: Alpha call in several years left.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: CJ West, same.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_01]: Grace at all, Ricky, deal like none of these guys are kidding out of the room unless you let them.
- 39:47[SPEAKER_01]: You have them all signed.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not only just like this year, you've got a young room.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: 28th the oldest guy in this room, that's Osa.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_01]: All these other guys are first second year players every single one of them.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_01]: Evan Anderson's in his third year But man that defense of tackle room.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: It is Young it is Stout man It is a freaking awesome awesome awesome room Yeah, right here howdy
- 40:19[SPEAKER_01]: You know, James Thompson Jr. in Easton were undrafted free agents still.
- 40:23[SPEAKER_01]: I was shocked at both of my price and he's graded he was good.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Buckner arm stead size.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's for sure.
- 40:30[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, Logan, I still feel Sebastian Valdez needs more reps. Yeah, he's fun to watch.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_01]: Not consistent.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: But he is fun and he's a practice warrior that that dude, they elevated Sebastian Valdez the maximum amount of times and healthy scratch them just so he could get paid like because he was the practice squad player the week so many times and scout team or scout team player the week all that stuff like he gives people good looks but it games not as consistent he's got to show it more.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_01]: in the preseason.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: That's what that's his time to shine practice.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_01]: He shows up all the time.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_01]: Kibbro, I like Valdez too.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, what's up, bit?
- 41:07[SPEAKER_01]: Another one of the producers of today's show in why Niners 4949, friend, legend, stud, the man.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, exactly.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: They got these three texts.
- 41:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and when we're not talking about that dude, I'm staying away from that one.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: So,
- 41:29[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so like, I don't like it with players lose their jobs for sure, but I was so happy they did not bring back the two defensive tackles for the last year, Jordan Elliott and Khalil, like I wanted they were just not consistent players.
- 41:45[SPEAKER_01]: You got all these young guys and I can't say this last year, why are you wasting all these snaps to these guys that aren't going to be around?
- 41:52[SPEAKER_01]: I don't understand it and they just kept doing it, but it's the shatterhead way.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't like it, but they do it all the time.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_01]: They do it all the freakin' time.
- 42:02[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, now, if you like what we do, man, make sure you turn that notification bill up.
- 42:07[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't already, go ahead and click that subscribe button, and right next to that subscribe button is the bell.

- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_01]: Hit that subscribe button, turn on all notifications.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_01]: All right, what is a countdown?
- 42:34[SPEAKER_01]: without some kickers and punters.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_01]: Number 70, Coralis Waitman, hang time in NFL experience.
- 42:42[SPEAKER_01]: He is currently the only punter on the roster, but the 49ers did bring in another priority free agent.
- 42:50[SPEAKER_01]: Jack Bowmaster who I do think is going to win that roster, but he hasn't been given a visa.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_01]: So he can't practice and he can't have an official contract and he can't come here yet.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_01]: So the $40.2 or at least plan to have two punters, but they're waiting on the logistics for freaking immigration to let him come practice, which is total bullshit.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_01]: Let this do get it here.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: He played for Texas, but Coralist Waitman,
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: Legitably has a shot at this job.
- 43:16[SPEAKER_01]: Now he comes to number 70.
- 43:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's a punner where's Jersey number 7 6 2 2 10 he's 30 years old.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know played at South Alabama really unique story like like the more I dove in to Corpus waitman the punner.
- 43:31[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just like oh like awesome born and Belgium and born and again.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_01]: his father was a pro Belgian basketball player.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_01]: They moved to Florida at 15.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: He went to Milton High School.
- 43:48[SPEAKER_01]: And like you kind of, his uncle played at Florida State, his dad played at South Alabama, lead athletic family, all this stuff, all family of athletes, which I love goes undrafted.
- 44:02[SPEAKER_01]: But did get drafted in the CFL back in 2022.
- 44:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's got a legit shot.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_01]: He's got 500,000 guaranteed money Like they didn't think I can guarantee you they thought Jack Bowmeister was going to get drafted They did work on him pre-draft The Texas kicker and they were shocked that he was there.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_01]: You know the Niners feel like you got a draft kickers and punters because It's the dumbest thing that you could ever do but
- 44:29[SPEAKER_01]: Jack Ballmaster was still there.
- 44:32[SPEAKER_01]: They got him a priority free agent.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_01]: I think they want Jack to win this job, but this is a legit battle.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: So now back to Coralis Waitman.
- 44:39[SPEAKER_01]: He's going into a seven season and man, he's played a lot 230 career ponds.
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: 46.4 average 71 long like what he does best.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_01]: And yes, I did dive into a bunch of metrics for partners to try to figure out what does he do?
- 44:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, just last year alone.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_01]: He was with the Steelers.
- 44:59[SPEAKER_01]: third most punts inside the 20 at 34 punts inside the 20 last year, third best in the NFL.
- 45:05[SPEAKER_01]: 4.5 to seconds hang time.
- 45:07[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: Well, what the hell is that mean?
- 45:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's top five.
- 45:10[SPEAKER_01]: Compare that to Thomas Morse said the 4 Aaron's punter last year.
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: He was second to last out of like 38 punters.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: 4.1.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: So you're going from 4.5 seconds hang time.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: from 4.1 and it's almost a full half second longer that ball's in the air to let your coverage team get down there.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_01]: It mitigates explosives in the punt return game.
- 45:31[SPEAKER_01]: That is huge.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_01]: Yards per returns, seven yards flat.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: That stopped in as well.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: He's on a one year, $1.2 million to $475,000 guaranteed.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: That is huge.
- 45:42[SPEAKER_01]: This dude's made $3.3 million in his career.
- 45:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we're getting some punt or talk.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: Coralist, waitin' it, legit shot.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think they want the other cat to win it.
- 45:53[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about him.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: He is on this count down, even though he's not on the roster, but he is on there.
- 45:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure if more stead retired, but he's 39.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: He went good last year and he was got off.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: He had two 20 yard punts in the playoffs.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: I lost my mind.
- 46:11[SPEAKER_01]: I lost my mind.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_01]: Probably the most upset, the injuries, all that stuff, a 20-yard punt whenever I lost my mind in the playoffs against the Eagles.
- 46:26[SPEAKER_01]: You've got to be kidding me.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, auditorias my man coming in with the kick or talk hang time equals more yards, especially in windy cities.
- 46:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you get that up there.
- 46:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I love it atomic.
- 46:41[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, you can put an australia though.
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: There we go.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: That is right.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_01]: Bob Mr.
- 46:46[SPEAKER_01]: Completed Australia.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: I love that.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: That is awesome.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_01]: You guys are the best.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, who would know?
- 46:51[SPEAKER_01]: you bring out the the punter talk and then and you get all these uh Europeans and Australians and you know, faithful from afar.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: I love you guys.
- 47:01[SPEAKER_01]: You are the best of the best.
- 47:02[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you guys.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 47:04[SPEAKER_01]: Last one of the roster countdown today.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: Number 69.
- 47:06[SPEAKER_01]: I told you we had a tight end.
- 47:08[SPEAKER_01]: Braden Willis.
- 47:09[SPEAKER_01]: Been with the Niners for a minute.
- 47:11[SPEAKER_01]: All the way since 2023.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_01]: very similar to a nicks to kill.
- 47:18[SPEAKER_01]: The hate isn't near as much for this player.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: The nighters like him a lot.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: He just doesn't get play in time because he could do a little bit of everything.
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: And they keep him around because the tight end spots so difficult, but he doesn't get playing time.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: And 2023 was number 42 on this count down in 2024.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's 40, 25, 66 and now he's 69.
- 47:40[SPEAKER_01]: So back to back years falling.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_01]: Where's Jersey number nine, 64, 240, 26 years old still young.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_01]: He is one year older than some of the rookies they drafted.
- 47:50[SPEAKER_01]: Himicale and Black are months apart, not years apart.
- 47:53[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's crazy to think about.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: different times.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_01]: He's from Oklahoma.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_01]: Um, went to James Martin High School, uh, Nick named weight room, Willie played all of his college football in Oklahoma.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_01]: Um, just a gym rat.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: It's what he was.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_01]: He won awards at Oklahoma, the Don Kia Ward, drafted the seventh round.
- 48:14[SPEAKER_01]: Um, the 40 hours said they had a fifth round.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_01]: Great on them.
- 48:16[SPEAKER_01]: They took him the seventh round.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_01]: do with that.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_01]: What you will just have paned out really it's a bit of special teams player and you can back up, you know, the tight end spot, but that's about it.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: They even tried him at full back.
- 48:27[SPEAKER_01]: That was a horrible failure.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: They moved him back just to tight end.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_01]: He's a practice squad guy.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_01]: And now you got Ruchi, you know, another priority free agent that's kind of fighting to take his job.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_01]: Ruchi's a vet.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry.
- 48:38[SPEAKER_01]: Dinkens is a priority free agent, but the nine are strapped in them in the seventh round.
- 48:42[SPEAKER_01]: That year they had three seventh round picks.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_01]: None of them have really paned out too much.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_01]: She's playing 23 games.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: No catches.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: But Ted Tacos, mostly on special teams and just blocking out there as a tie-in.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: That's kind of what he does.
- 48:56[SPEAKER_01]: 114 special team snaps, last year, one year, $1.1 million no guarantees, may $2.1 million in this career.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: Now you look at Braden Willis and the Tited Dept.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: George Kiddle,
- 49:10[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, number one, the injury makes it a little weird.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: Jake Tonjes, Luke Ferrell, Khalil Dinkens, Brady Willis, Hayden Rucci.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's so thin.
- 49:19[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, we come in and we have brain Willis.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_01]: Number 69, a lot of that's not because of brain Willis.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of that's because of 49ers brought in no competition.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_01]: and mid, sometimes the four airs keep four tight ends.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if kiddos not healthy week one, you only have five tight ends out there.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: Clealtic is not even practicing.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_01]: You have four tight ends practicing on this roster now for freaking OTAs.
- 49:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's as thin of a position that is exist in the entire NFL, whatever a team uses so many damn tight ends.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_01]: They don't do 13 personnel.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_01]: And for anybody that's sitting there saying, oh, 13 personnel, that's huge.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_01]: I want to see what Shanna hands not doing it.
- 50:02[SPEAKER_01]: He's never done it.
- 50:03[SPEAKER_01]: He's done some gold line sets, but like Shanna hands not doing the 13 personnel.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_01]: I really thought you should have drafted tight in last year.
- 50:10[SPEAKER_01]: They didn't.
- 50:11[SPEAKER_01]: I really thought they should have drafted the tight in this year.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_01]: They're just fine with what it is.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_01]: And we all can't stand Luke Ferrell, but he's gonna be around.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_01]: I wanted him cut, but man, this room, it's safety and tight in, man.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_01]: We said it before the draft.
- 50:31[SPEAKER_01]: The Ash and David signing helped the safety room for sure could really use one of those safety signings or tight in, you know, vet signings here as well.
- 50:40[SPEAKER_01]: But there are still guys out there.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: there are still guys out there.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_01]: No doubt.
- 50:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's get to some of these comments.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: I love it.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right here.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_01]: He lasted longer than the third round pick.
- 50:53[SPEAKER_01]: Tied in.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_01]: We had a few years back.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I told you he would, right?
- 50:58[SPEAKER_01]: Camelatu.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_01]: I was, I was more upset at the Jake Moody pick that year, but the Camelatu pick was just, it was bad.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: But at least there was a chance Camelatu could be something,
- 51:13[SPEAKER_01]: That was two of the worst picks ever and I told you like I had a seventh round grade on cam law to add a fifth round grade on Braden Willis.
- 51:20[SPEAKER_01]: I I stand by that and yeah, Braden Willis has outlasted.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_01]: Cabrera law to was drafted in the third.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_01]: That was such a stupid big.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_01]: uh... local didn't will say after he's drafted thirty two teams go to pay he hasn't made anybody pay yet uh... be well deemed me on twitter but please uh-oh i don't i don't want to do that never mind i didn't put that up there i didn't read the whole thing it's alive show don't get bad at me notorious uh... you're the freaking man and yeah parade willus probably go to make it we kiddo out he will do what you want him to do blocking wise
- 51:54[SPEAKER_01]: And it won't be a special team's player.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: There's value in that.
- 51:57[SPEAKER_01]: Titans play special teams that gives them an extra spot.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_01]: It really, really does.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a feral just will.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: Will is better than feral.
- 52:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think so.
- 52:08[SPEAKER_01]: And that's sad.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: Not, I mean, they play the two different titan spots because brain will is placed to move tight in spot usually.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_01]: He can't play both.
- 52:18[SPEAKER_01]: Feral cannot.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: I remember that stupid Seattle playoff game where there was just like a little, it was a little nub route.
- 52:29[SPEAKER_01]: and Luke Feral's wide open against the zone.
- 52:31[SPEAKER_01]: Brock, pretty seesome, pump face it, pulls it down and then it's just like, ah, scrabbles for his life.
- 52:37[SPEAKER_01]: Two wide receivers are on the ground.
- 52:39[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just like, oh my gosh.
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I remember this play because Ricky Pears all had to watch in, he's where on the ground.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: And the only open, right receiver is Luke Feral.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_01]: And Brock, pretty can't throw it to Luke Feral because he's Luke Feral.
- 52:53[SPEAKER_01]: And just Brock, pretty right for his life.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what are you supposed to do?
- 52:57[SPEAKER_01]: What are you supposed to do in that situation?
- 53:00[SPEAKER_01]: it's it's bad.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Titan rooms rough, bro.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: It is.
- 53:05[SPEAKER_01]: But that's our countdown.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: So to summarize, we got Ashton Davis 72, Nick's the kill 71, James Thompson 70, Coralis wait been 60 died.
- 53:15[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, 70, and the brain will have 69.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: I messed up my numbers there.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_01]: Ashton Davis was 73.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_01]: but that's what it is.
- 53:22[SPEAKER_01]: Our roster countdown series will continue brief update.
- 53:25[SPEAKER_01]: I've taken a couple of days off this week.
- 53:27[SPEAKER_01]: It is our 20th anniversary officially.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_01]: So be in the wife.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to take some time away in the middle of the week.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_01]: So the Tuesday Wednesday Thursday shows we typically do not want to do this week.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_01]: I apologize.
- 53:39[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, the the Mrs. and I get a celebrated little bit and then we're traveling a lot later for this, but for our actual anniversary, which is the tip, you know, just go take some time off and just enjoy a little bit of life.
- 53:51[SPEAKER_01]: And so yeah, thank you.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_01]: Appreciate the the kind words.
- 53:55[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully she doesn't leave me before then, which is possible if she's smart.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, thank you guys.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: I love the kind of words.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: So just to understand this week's shows got to be a little light But it's a little bit of downtime and we're going to catch up.
