- 0:02Speaker 1: This is an unspoiled network podcast. This is Unspoiled, covering
- 0:09Speaker 1: one piece episodes eight eighty six and eight eighty seven,
- 0:15Speaker 1: The Holy Land in Tumult, the targeted Princess Shira Hoshi,
- 0:20Speaker 1: and an explosive situation two Emperors of the Sea going
- 0:25Speaker 1: after Loofy. In these episodes, I was wondering when this
- 0:34Speaker 1: whole fucking we actually do still steal slaves was going
- 0:39Speaker 1: to rear its head And it does not take long,
- 0:42Speaker 1: and it couldn't happen to a more high profile guest.
- 0:47Speaker 1: My goodness, welcome to spoil me of Welcome to the
- 1:09Speaker 1: show everyone. I am Natasha. Thank you very much to
- 1:13Speaker 1: Lena for commissioning this episode. And I know that I
- 1:18Speaker 1: like lately feel like I start every episode with thanks
- 1:20Speaker 1: for your patients because I fucked up something, but like
- 1:23Speaker 1: I really must address you guys. I have begun to
- 1:27Speaker 1: realize that getting older, combined with perimenopause, combined with a
- 1:34Speaker 1: susceptibility to hormones that was above average already because I
- 1:37Speaker 1: had PMDD, has resulted in a considerable cognitive decline during
- 1:45Speaker 1: my menstrual cycle like pre phase, and it is noticeable.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I made so many weird mistakes. Last week, I watched
- 1:56Speaker 1: the wrong episodes for this show. I missed reading a
- 1:59Speaker 1: check for one of the books, I forgot one recording entirely,
- 2:04Speaker 1: and just like by happenstance, managed to make it there
- 2:08Speaker 1: on time, and like prepared, I you don't even want
- 2:13Speaker 1: to know at home, the weird mistakes that I have
- 2:16Speaker 1: been making. It is alarming, and I think that, uh,
- 2:22Speaker 1: you know, I'm just I'm just gonna have to start
- 2:24Speaker 1: really beginning to put some coping mechanisms in place, because
- 2:28Speaker 1: obviously I can't be trusted and it's frustrating. It's frustrating
- 2:34Speaker 1: to everybody. So uh, Sarah fem says, even though any
- 2:40Speaker 1: of them could have done this and gotten away with it,
- 2:42Speaker 1: it's telling that only one of them was stupid enough
- 2:44Speaker 1: to actually try it. Overgarding Shiroshi absolutely, Florence says, oh, no,
- 2:50Speaker 1: nature in life is great. I guess, like, look, look,
- 2:57Speaker 1: there are just some things when they when they say
- 3:00Speaker 1: life's not fair to a kid. I think a lot
- 3:02Speaker 1: of times, as a child, understandably, you would just be like,
- 3:07Speaker 1: then make it fair? What the fuck? And I often
- 3:10Speaker 1: thought that myself. But there are things like biology that
- 3:14Speaker 1: are simply not fair, and men just aren't going to
- 3:17Speaker 1: have to deal with this kind of horseshit, and it's
- 3:20Speaker 1: sus men. It's really unfair, deeply fundamentally, and I will
- 3:27Speaker 1: never get over it because it makes me so angry
- 3:29Speaker 1: all the time to think about. So anyway, let's be
- 3:33Speaker 1: in talking about this episode, shall we. So last time,
- 3:38Speaker 1: I had accidentally watched two episodes ahead, but so I
- 3:42Speaker 1: watched eighty eight and eight eighty nine, so I have
- 3:45Speaker 1: jumped ahead a little bit, but fear not, memory things
- 3:49Speaker 1: have ensured that I have forgotten a lot of what happens.
- 3:52Speaker 1: So once I go there again, it'll be, you know,
- 3:55Speaker 1: a totally different experience now that I've actually seen these two.
- 4:00Speaker 1: So what's going on with Princess shiro Hooshi this episode, because, like,
- 4:03Speaker 1: you know, a couple episodes ago, I was like, so
- 4:08Speaker 1: they're acting like the everything is cool, but they are
- 4:11Speaker 1: still gathering up slaves and we know this right and
- 4:15Speaker 1: we like, I was sort of interested in, how is
- 4:19Speaker 1: it that the fishermen are even here? I'm surprised that
- 4:23Speaker 1: this is something that like they were invited to and
- 4:26Speaker 1: that they accepted, and overall simply felt like this was
- 4:32Speaker 1: a bit of a powder keg situation, and it does
- 4:38Speaker 1: indeed turn out to be. Florian says, did you read
- 4:44Speaker 1: the cover story as well? Oh? Yes I did. I
- 4:46Speaker 1: didn't mention that in my intro, but hey, there's something
- 4:49Speaker 1: I did, right, I did. It's a cover story about
- 4:52Speaker 1: and Noel, which I'm going to try and remember to
- 4:56Speaker 1: post in the show notes for this episode the link
- 4:58Speaker 1: to it if anybody wants to read it. Seraphim says,
- 5:03Speaker 1: Saint Charles Charlos not dying despite the abuse he suffers
- 5:08Speaker 1: shows one good reason for Oda not liking to kill characters.
- 5:12Speaker 1: If he dies, we can no longer be amused by
- 5:15Speaker 1: his suffering. Who is which one is? Saint Charlos? Is
- 5:22Speaker 1: that how you say it? Is that the guy that
- 5:28Speaker 1: is you know, that had his life saved by the
- 5:32Speaker 1: Queen and now is like turning a corner? Uh? The
- 5:35Speaker 1: asshole who tried to kidnap you Rojoshi? Okay? And is
- 5:40Speaker 1: he the same guy that got punched by Loofy. That's
- 5:44Speaker 1: the same one, right, yes, okay? Bro was just getting
- 5:48Speaker 1: punched out here, like how embarrassing? Getting punched once, that's shocking,
- 5:54Speaker 1: getting punched twice, that's a pattern And like you really
- 5:58Speaker 1: should he should learn to fight, I guess, is really
- 6:04Speaker 1: what should happen here. But we will get to that.
- 6:08Speaker 1: So the thing about we start off with a visit
- 6:18Speaker 1: to the empty Throne, which is in this like huge
- 6:24Speaker 1: room filled with what seemed to be empty suits of
- 6:29Speaker 1: armor I think, and tons of moldy useless swords. It
- 6:39Speaker 1: very much does kind of give the vibe of the
- 6:41Speaker 1: like iron Throne in terms of the scope, because the
- 6:47Speaker 1: throne is like twenty feet up. It's you know, there's
- 6:52Speaker 1: two it seems, staircases in order to get to it,
- 6:58Speaker 1: and Stelly is the sitting this place with an old
- 7:03Speaker 1: Merlin looking man whose name I don't remember. What is
- 7:06Speaker 1: this guy? He is explaining to Stelly that because he
- 7:15Speaker 1: says something about how like can't I sit on the
- 7:18Speaker 1: throne as I make my pledge? Because evidently he doesn't
- 7:23Speaker 1: realize what the tradition is with the empty throne, But
- 7:28Speaker 1: you know, obviously, because of who he is. Once he
- 7:31Speaker 1: is informed of the tradition, that does not change his
- 7:35Speaker 1: feelings on it at all. It's, you know what I'm saying,
- 7:39Speaker 1: like he still wants to do what he wants to do,
- 7:42Speaker 1: but it is a it's so frustrating because actually the
- 7:52Speaker 1: concept of the empty throne in theory is like kind
- 7:57Speaker 1: of cool. The sim listen that we are supposed to
- 8:01Speaker 1: take from it is that everybody is equal, and so
- 8:06Speaker 1: there is nobody who is in charge of the world.
- 8:09Speaker 1: There's nobody who is you know, above everyone else, and
- 8:15Speaker 1: obviously that is a complete and utter lie. Like there,
- 8:21Speaker 1: it's immediately we cut to some people who clearly think
- 8:24Speaker 1: they are above everything and are treated as such. So
- 8:29Speaker 1: there's just no truth to this in practice, really, But
- 8:37Speaker 1: I really love the concept of the empty throne being
- 8:41Speaker 1: this illustrative device and you come and you make your
- 8:46Speaker 1: pledge to it as as a symbol of like, I
- 8:50Speaker 1: am part of a group. We are in this together.
- 8:54Speaker 1: If we don't work together, then if if we don't
- 9:00Speaker 1: learn to live together, then we will die alone. I
- 9:03Speaker 1: think is the line from Lost. But yeah, it just
- 9:08Speaker 1: feels like a really neat device, and then for it
- 9:12Speaker 1: to be so immediately undermined is really sad, and like
- 9:20Speaker 1: it surprises me that they even bother with the ritual
- 9:27Speaker 1: of this, you know, and Stelly is like, of course,
- 9:35Speaker 1: barely hearing what this guy is trying to explain to him,
- 9:38Speaker 1: regarding you know, the meaning of it being that nobody
- 9:45Speaker 1: is above it, because Stelly thinks if I got to
- 9:49Speaker 1: sit up there, I would be the boss of everyone.
- 9:54Speaker 1: I think is the way he frames it, is literally
- 9:57Speaker 1: the boss of everyone, which is I swear to God.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I think that he actually believes that if he were
- 10:06Speaker 1: to somehow sit on the chair, he would magically be
- 10:11Speaker 1: imbued with like godlike powers. I think that he really
- 10:15Speaker 1: There's just something about the way that he looks at
- 10:17Speaker 1: the Throne and thinks this that he's mentally treating it
- 10:23Speaker 1: like it's a video game level and I just like
- 10:27Speaker 1: have to fight the boss to get to the chair
- 10:29Speaker 1: so that I can sit on it and level up exponentially.
- 10:34Speaker 1: And it's just like, Stelly, I know that you want
- 10:36Speaker 1: to be one of the celestial dragons, but like, from
- 10:40Speaker 1: what I understand, they didn't become what they are from
- 10:43Speaker 1: just sitting on a chair. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe I
- 10:47Speaker 1: don't know enough to actually say this with such confidence,
- 10:52Speaker 1: but I feel like it's pretty much a guarantee that
- 10:55Speaker 1: the Throne does not have literal magical powers. It's interesting
- 11:00Speaker 1: when I stop and think about it. With one piece,
- 11:05Speaker 1: there's very little that's truly magical. Outside of the the
- 11:10Speaker 1: Devil Fruits, we have a lot of things that are
- 11:13Speaker 1: like wondrous, but they usually are sort of explained in
- 11:18Speaker 1: a way that is of course cartoony to a degree,
- 11:22Speaker 1: but there is supposed to be like scientific reasoning behind
- 11:26Speaker 1: the way a lot of things work, like Nami's weapon,
- 11:30Speaker 1: that's pretty much magic, but we are meant to believe
- 11:34Speaker 1: that somehow Oosop is so mechanically gifted that he was
- 11:39Speaker 1: able to invent something that can literally control the weather.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And so I don't feel like it really counts. And
- 11:50Speaker 1: I'm wondering now, like the connection with because we saw
- 11:54Speaker 1: that giant straw hat in the last episode, and I'm
- 11:56Speaker 1: starting to be like, is there magic? And it's just
- 11:58Speaker 1: that it's been like kind of sequestered from everyone, you know,
- 12:02Speaker 1: I don't know, sorry, Seraphim says, And that's one of
- 12:07Speaker 1: the reasons the World government has lasted so long. They're
- 12:10Speaker 1: very good at pr both putting good spins on things
- 12:12Speaker 1: and making sure anyone who could say otherwise never existed.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I don't think it's some level up thing. He just
- 12:18Speaker 1: sees person who sits in the chair is a big boss.
- 12:21Speaker 1: So if I sit on it I'm the boss, and
- 12:22Speaker 1: failing to even consider that's not how it works. I don't.
- 12:27Speaker 1: I don't like literally mean that he believes in magic,
- 12:31Speaker 1: but I feel like he has that childlike understanding of
- 12:34Speaker 1: just X plus Y equals z and it's just gro
- 12:40Speaker 1: No what, go sit on that chair and try and
- 12:42Speaker 1: tell any of the celestial dragons what to do and
- 12:44Speaker 1: see what happens. But yeah, this has just got me
- 12:49Speaker 1: thinking now about magic in one piece, and I feel
- 12:52Speaker 1: like that there have been things that people can do
- 12:55Speaker 1: that should feel like magic but don't technically fall under
- 12:59Speaker 1: that that heading. Yeah, this is something I'm going to
- 13:04Speaker 1: be thinking about for a little bit. It's not important,
- 13:07Speaker 1: it doesn't really change anything materially, you know, but it
- 13:12Speaker 1: is sort of compelling to me somehow. So this, uh,
- 13:19Speaker 1: like I said, this whole thing, which I actually kind
- 13:22Speaker 1: of enjoyed, is immediately undercut by going outside and hearing
- 13:27Speaker 1: Shira Ho. She's screaming as we get one of the
- 13:33Speaker 1: there's a guy that is trying to kidnap her. And
- 13:38Speaker 1: the subtitles say slave three, so I guess he himself
- 13:44Speaker 1: is a slave and he has been ordered to go
- 13:47Speaker 1: capture her. This is something that I find a little
- 13:53Speaker 1: bit weird. Is like, I if it were a being
- 14:00Speaker 1: ordered to go capture her, I would not expect him
- 14:05Speaker 1: to be as gleeful as he is. He really seems
- 14:10Speaker 1: like fucking delighted. And I am I am aware that
- 14:18Speaker 1: there are folks out there who can tolerate a lot
- 14:22Speaker 1: as long as they themselves are allowed to inflict that
- 14:25Speaker 1: on other people. That it's really just the fact as
- 14:28Speaker 1: long as I get to dish it out, I can
- 14:31Speaker 1: take it. I just need somebody that's like under me
- 14:33Speaker 1: that I can abuse in kind. So I'm not trying
- 14:38Speaker 1: to say that this is like completely un heard of
- 14:42Speaker 1: or impossible. It just is a little bit surprising that
- 14:48Speaker 1: he is so excited to capture her in this way
- 14:53Speaker 1: that feels as if he himself is going to like
- 14:56Speaker 1: benefit from her being captured. So anyway, everybody is like
- 15:04Speaker 1: watching and nobody is doing anything, and off to the side,
- 15:08Speaker 1: we have char lost there, it says in the subtitles. Yeah,
- 15:12Speaker 1: I watched it without subtitles on in my living room,
- 15:15Speaker 1: but now I'm watching on my desktop and it's turned on.
- 15:18Speaker 1: But yeah, uh, her brothers and her father are looking
- 15:24Speaker 1: on and doing nothing to save her, and one of
- 15:30Speaker 1: them is like, are we really just going to fucking
- 15:32Speaker 1: stand here? And the way the camera is zeros in
- 15:36Speaker 1: on the King's face, which has gone dark, and he
- 15:40Speaker 1: is doing a deep inhale as if to suggest he
- 15:46Speaker 1: is actually going to do something, but he is taking
- 15:49Speaker 1: a moment to sort of gather himself and get himself
- 15:52Speaker 1: under control. And like there's a bunch of folks off
- 16:00Speaker 1: in the audience that are somebody needs to do something
- 16:04Speaker 1: and beginning to surge forward. I think one of them
- 16:07Speaker 1: is Rebecca. Is she the one with the pink hair?
- 16:09Speaker 1: I actually forgot about what color her hair is. It's
- 16:13Speaker 1: so hard when they all, like the women are drawn
- 16:16Speaker 1: so alike that like I just have to rely on
- 16:22Speaker 1: their size or their hair color, or like who they're
- 16:24Speaker 1: standing around to be able to tell them apart. But
- 16:27Speaker 1: uh yeah, So she is being fucking humiliated here, slammed
- 16:32Speaker 1: to the ground, and it is a really awful thing
- 16:35Speaker 1: to watch, Like the fact that nobody is stepping forward
- 16:41Speaker 1: is really really upsetting, actually, And we get Leo, as
- 16:46Speaker 1: the literal smallest person there being the only one who's
- 16:50Speaker 1: just like, no, I am not going to fucking tolerate this,
- 16:54Speaker 1: And it's sort of like, you know, it begins to
- 17:00Speaker 1: art things off a little bit, but it's really you
- 17:04Speaker 1: know the fact that he begins, and then it's is
- 17:11Speaker 1: it Ryle the guy that joins him. They're the only
- 17:16Speaker 1: two that decide to do anything, and when they get trounced,
- 17:22Speaker 1: it's like not there's no sense of anybody else had
- 17:27Speaker 1: been about to jump in. It feels like everybody was
- 17:30Speaker 1: very much willing to stand back and watch the failure
- 17:35Speaker 1: of these two. So when they both get grabbed and thrown,
- 17:43Speaker 1: it turns out that a CP nine is here. We've
- 17:49Speaker 1: got this weird ocaku who turns into a giraffe, which
- 17:53Speaker 1: we get the reminder about later. What's the name of
- 17:56Speaker 1: the guy with the black hair? He's the one who
- 18:01Speaker 1: actually like interrupts them here and Rob Lucci Okay Lucci
- 18:12Speaker 1: he is the he really because like there's a group
- 18:19Speaker 1: of four of them here. I guess his bird counts
- 18:23Speaker 1: as in another individual, so technically five. But they all
- 18:29Speaker 1: are pretty much just complete like boot liquors and insist
- 18:35Speaker 1: there is nothing you can do because they are actual gods.
- 18:40Speaker 1: They don't have to listen to you, they don't have
- 18:43Speaker 1: to make sense, they don't have to do absolutely fucking
- 18:48Speaker 1: anything they don't want to, and they don't have to
- 18:50Speaker 1: explain themselves or suffer consequences or anything that a regular
- 18:55Speaker 1: person would do. And I just the fact that they
- 19:03Speaker 1: have thrown in so hard this way is when they
- 19:10Speaker 1: have like the kind of power that they have. I understand,
- 19:14Speaker 1: these people gave them this power, so they're going to
- 19:16Speaker 1: protect that jealously. Makes sense, but it is also just
- 19:21Speaker 1: such an interesting dynamic of like you are, you have
- 19:26Speaker 1: this kind of power that you could tell these people
- 19:29Speaker 1: to fuck off if you really wanted, and it seems
- 19:32Speaker 1: that it has never even occurred to you to do that,
- 19:36Speaker 1: And I wish that you would have a bit more imagination.
- 19:40Speaker 1: That's all Sarah m is saying. CP zero Now same people,
- 19:46Speaker 1: different divisions. CP nine or the government assassin CP zero
- 19:49Speaker 1: are basically the Celestial Dragon Secret Service, that's right. So
- 19:56Speaker 1: he basically just stands there and bloviates about out how
- 20:02Speaker 1: you know, nobody can do or say anything in opposition
- 20:05Speaker 1: to these people. It's very, very fucking tiresome, and unfortunately
- 20:12Speaker 1: it seems like most people are kind of like prepared
- 20:16Speaker 1: to accept this. We go from here into the flashbacks
- 20:22Speaker 1: of all of the different times that our people have
- 20:25Speaker 1: gone up against these agents, including just the general moment
- 20:31Speaker 1: of like rescuing Robin and her finally saying that she
- 20:35Speaker 1: wants to live and all of them at impelled down
- 20:37Speaker 1: and everything. You know. So I'm not going to get
- 20:41Speaker 1: into all of that because we've covered this, but I
- 20:44Speaker 1: will say that this is a case where I think
- 20:47Speaker 1: the flashbacks really helpful. It's not that I did not
- 20:51Speaker 1: remember these guys, because they're memorable, so that's not the issue.
- 20:56Speaker 1: But there was just something about getting the scenes again
- 20:59Speaker 1: as a fresh that I was like, yeah, I think
- 21:01Speaker 1: I kind of needed that. So anyway, I just really
- 21:07Speaker 1: I was really like disgusted with everybody who was not
- 21:12Speaker 1: willing to do something. And finally, when we come back
- 21:16Speaker 1: into the present, VV is one of the few that
- 21:19Speaker 1: like actually begins to step forward and she's like, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 1: you know that this isn't right. You have to stop this.
- 21:29Speaker 1: And then we go to the king and he is
- 21:34Speaker 1: looking down and obviously he is really about to lose it,
- 21:44Speaker 1: and he says something about how like VV, you were
- 21:47Speaker 1: one of our friends or something like that, and I'm
- 21:49Speaker 1: sorry that you're going to have to witness this, but
- 21:52Speaker 1: I'm going to split their skulls to the bottom of
- 21:55Speaker 1: the sea for good. And then she throws herself in
- 21:59Speaker 1: front of the selesh Jill dragon and is like, you
- 22:04Speaker 1: can't do this, don't And she says something about how
- 22:08Speaker 1: his wife, because we do get that flashback about how
- 22:12Speaker 1: she was saying, one day we'll live in the sun
- 22:14Speaker 1: and we'll be among humans and it'll be everything will
- 22:17Speaker 1: be different. And he was thinking, before all this began
- 22:21Speaker 1: to pop off, how much he wished that she could
- 22:24Speaker 1: be here and see her dream coming true. And it
- 22:27Speaker 1: was a really sweet moment, which it's made even sadder
- 22:32Speaker 1: once you realize that, like it's still even in moments
- 22:39Speaker 1: like this, it's still not real. It's still you know.
- 22:43Speaker 1: So when Rebecca says something about like, you know what
- 22:51Speaker 1: your wife wanted, he responds with, if this is what
- 22:55Speaker 1: it's like up here, then her dream was dead from
- 22:58Speaker 1: the start. And Rebecca says, don't let the worst examples
- 23:04Speaker 1: of mankind speak for all of us. Don't give into this,
- 23:10Speaker 1: and he's still got his fist raised. You know, this
- 23:13Speaker 1: is the way this works, is that it's always just
- 23:16Speaker 1: this very long pause, and he says, even if we
- 23:21Speaker 1: bear our hearts to them. Humans won't change. I must
- 23:25Speaker 1: save shira Hoshi. This is the only way, and of
- 23:32Speaker 1: course this fucking dragon decides to give the order for
- 23:36Speaker 1: the king to be killed. Shira Hoshi from the ground
- 23:40Speaker 1: is like yelling, father, don't do it, don't give in
- 23:43Speaker 1: to hatred. And he he begins to go in, he
- 23:52Speaker 1: begins to punch, and it really looks like he's fully
- 23:58Speaker 1: gonna do it, but somebody else steps in at the
- 24:02Speaker 1: last second and landsa hit on Charloss that has this
- 24:08Speaker 1: dude like, real fucks up now here. You guys, I
- 24:16Speaker 1: know that I have said this sort of thing before,
- 24:20Speaker 1: so forgive me. But you know we're back in this
- 24:22Speaker 1: sort of situation, so I do think I have to
- 24:25Speaker 1: address it again. I really really despise the framing of
- 24:35Speaker 1: this as the king giving in to hatred, like I
- 24:41Speaker 1: completely understand that's literally what he's thinking is just like, well,
- 24:45Speaker 1: I guess human beings are just fucking trash, which okay,
- 24:49Speaker 1: not all humans, but they are at an event dedicated
- 24:53Speaker 1: to peace and unity, and somebody is trying to enslave
- 24:58Speaker 1: his daughter a princess. Like the idea that he is
- 25:07Speaker 1: out of line here is so insane and the don't
- 25:14Speaker 1: give into hatred is the fact that quote giving into
- 25:19Speaker 1: hatred would be the same thing as like doing the
- 25:22Speaker 1: right thing and saving his child who's going to be
- 25:25Speaker 1: turned into a slave in front of his eyes, is
- 25:31Speaker 1: just a really dishonest Like, you know, I just feel
- 25:36Speaker 1: like this everybody trying to stop him and being like
- 25:41Speaker 1: you can't judge all humans by the way, you know,
- 25:43Speaker 1: there's so many people here that are trying to stop
- 25:47Speaker 1: him or watching and unwilling to step in themselves. I
- 25:53Speaker 1: find that really Like what's the word I want? I
- 25:59Speaker 1: just think it's despicable. So somebody's gonna step forward and
- 26:04Speaker 1: beat you, Okay, well then get beaten. At least you'll
- 26:08Speaker 1: be able to fucking sleep at night because you'll know
- 26:10Speaker 1: that you didn't watch a helpless young woman be captured
- 26:16Speaker 1: and pulled into slavery and did nothing, you know, like
- 26:22Speaker 1: do anything. Literally, Leo and what's his face are the
- 26:27Speaker 1: only two that actually start to take a stand on
- 26:31Speaker 1: this at all. And yeah they get trounced, but they
- 26:35Speaker 1: did something, so you know, get out of my face. Uh.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Seraphim says that it's more a sheer a hoshi thing
- 26:46Speaker 1: than a story saying it thing I disagree based on
- 26:49Speaker 1: everybody else's dialogue as well. She says that specific phrase,
- 26:54Speaker 1: But it's like, obviously the way that everybody else behaving,
- 26:59Speaker 1: everyone else not wanting anyone to do something, is more
- 27:01Speaker 1: about the consequences for attacking a celestial dragon. Sure, sure,
- 27:07Speaker 1: but attack the slave catcher. Then you don't even have
- 27:12Speaker 1: to go after the celestial dragon. Go after the dude
- 27:16Speaker 1: that's actually got her chained up, get her out of there.
- 27:20Speaker 1: And there's just there's a myriad of ways that this
- 27:24Speaker 1: could have been handled without just standing there doing fuck all,
- 27:31Speaker 1: And it just causes my respect for everybody there to
- 27:34Speaker 1: drop precipitously. And the king being about to throw a
- 27:38Speaker 1: punch is like so completely and utterly justified in every
- 27:44Speaker 1: single way that I simply can't be worried about, Oh, well,
- 27:52Speaker 1: what will happen to him if he at this moment,
- 27:56Speaker 1: I don't care do the right fucking thing. That's it.
- 27:59Speaker 1: That's all there is. It's just, you know, and I
- 28:06Speaker 1: just it's so vile that there is an audience of
- 28:12Speaker 1: what seems like over a hundred people and we had
- 28:17Speaker 1: two who you know, two people that's it, one of
- 28:22Speaker 1: whom is like a foot tall, and then the king
- 28:25Speaker 1: starts to do something and everybody is literally trying to
- 28:28Speaker 1: stop him. I just can't get behind it. I understand
- 28:32Speaker 1: that it's supposed to be the celestial dragon boogeyman thing,
- 28:36Speaker 1: it doesn't work for me in as much as like
- 28:39Speaker 1: I think, we just haven't had enough contact with the
- 28:42Speaker 1: celestial dragons for me to really feel that fear about them.
- 28:46Speaker 1: And this is such an utter spitting in the face
- 28:49Speaker 1: of the point of this whole Reverie summit that I
- 28:54Speaker 1: can't fathom that this would even be allowed. If anybody
- 28:59Speaker 1: who were in like who organize this new it just
- 29:08Speaker 1: all of it just feels like there is no other option.
- 29:12Speaker 1: I can't believe how few people are willing to take
- 29:15Speaker 1: a stand on this. So I just really this made
- 29:20Speaker 1: me really disgusted, and I really felt for Shira Hoshi
- 29:24Speaker 1: because like it's she's weirdly kind of in the position
- 29:27Speaker 1: that VV was when she got slapped by Woppole where
- 29:33Speaker 1: she can like really start some shit if she wants to,
- 29:36Speaker 1: but instead she just decides to eat it because that's
- 29:41Speaker 1: what's going to be best for everybody. And it feels
- 29:46Speaker 1: like this is so frequently the lot of like the
- 29:48Speaker 1: female characters is we have to watch one of them
- 29:52Speaker 1: get disrespected and be willing to like rise above that
- 29:59Speaker 1: for the sake of the greater good. And I've just
- 30:03Speaker 1: kind of had it on that front. You know, this
- 30:07Speaker 1: isn't just taking it and then you move on with
- 30:10Speaker 1: your day. And he hit you and it was disrespectful,
- 30:12Speaker 1: but whatever, This is her being pulled into actual slavery,
- 30:15Speaker 1: like a thing that is meant to be illegal. By
- 30:18Speaker 1: the way, this is supposed to not be a thing anymore.
- 30:21Speaker 1: So how are you going to pretend that we are
- 30:25Speaker 1: all equals at this reverie but then allow the Selest
- 30:29Speaker 1: Jill Dragons to take whatever slaves they want right out
- 30:33Speaker 1: in the open and not even address the fact that
- 30:37Speaker 1: slavery is clearly still happening. Like there just feels to
- 30:44Speaker 1: me like we have got the recourse to do some
- 30:47Speaker 1: things and to set up of fuss. And I think
- 30:51Speaker 1: that part of this is also the fact that the
- 30:54Speaker 1: Celest Jill Dragons themselves, I don't really have a good
- 30:57Speaker 1: idea of what any of their powers are or if
- 30:59Speaker 1: they have it. It seems like they just purely rely
- 31:04Speaker 1: on bodyguards and stuff. If they have their own abilities.
- 31:08Speaker 1: It's just not really been showcased yet. It's the sort
- 31:13Speaker 1: of thing that I imagine they don't want to get their
- 31:17Speaker 1: hands dirty. They could definitely have abilities, but they simply
- 31:21Speaker 1: don't ever put them into play because that's lowering themselves
- 31:26Speaker 1: to you know, a fight with a fucking peasant, like
- 31:31Speaker 1: they would never So there's a possibility there that we've
- 31:37Speaker 1: got some other things going on with them that I
- 31:39Speaker 1: don't even know about. But but yeah, it's just like
- 31:44Speaker 1: it just fucking it really made me sad it. You know.
- 31:49Speaker 1: The way for me to reframe this, when I stop
- 31:51Speaker 1: and think about it, is just how it's been in
- 31:55Speaker 1: the US with ice and that they can just grip
- 31:58Speaker 1: up anybody on the street, and folks know if I interfere,
- 32:02Speaker 1: I am getting shot, And so we best we can
- 32:06Speaker 1: do is just film from the sidelines, yell out what's
- 32:09Speaker 1: your name, who's your family? A phone number to call,
- 32:12Speaker 1: And that's the best we can do, because we have
- 32:16Speaker 1: seen what happens when anybody not even tries to interfere.
- 32:19Speaker 1: But it's just there in the wrong at the wrong time,
- 32:23Speaker 1: you know, in the way. So I think the problem
- 32:29Speaker 1: for me is that there are so many like heroic
- 32:31Speaker 1: figures that are out in this audience right now for
- 32:35Speaker 1: this episode. It's not just a bunch of like random
- 32:39Speaker 1: civilians on the street watching a neighbor get taken. These
- 32:43Speaker 1: are all, like you know, legendary figures in the world
- 32:48Speaker 1: right now, and I want them to fucking do something.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Florian says. I think it's a showcase how wrong and
- 32:57Speaker 1: fucked up the system is and how people are complicit
- 32:59Speaker 1: even here. Seraphim says, that's the thing. There really isn't
- 33:02Speaker 1: anything they can do. The celestial dragons are all above
- 33:04Speaker 1: the law, and daring even suggests otherwise gets your entire
- 33:07Speaker 1: island wipe from the face of the sea. Florian says,
- 33:10Speaker 1: I do not think it is about the greater good.
- 33:12Speaker 1: They just don't know what else to say or do.
- 33:14Speaker 1: They are scared, like in the real world where people
- 33:16Speaker 1: don't know what's right because they are scared of consequences
- 33:19Speaker 1: like ice. Yeah, and even our heroes are like this
- 33:22Speaker 1: tells us about how deep it goes. Yeah, it's just
- 33:27Speaker 1: it's just I hated it so much, guys, I really did.
- 33:30Speaker 1: I really and Leo, I can't tell you how much
- 33:35Speaker 1: my respect went out for you and the King as well,
- 33:38Speaker 1: Like he didn't actually land his punch, but he fucking
- 33:40Speaker 1: does it, So that's something like he was going to
- 33:45Speaker 1: you know, so, like I said, charl Lost gets fucking
- 33:51Speaker 1: uh like hit with a what I think is like
- 33:55Speaker 1: a mace, and then we find out that this is
- 34:01Speaker 1: how do you say his name? Mioscard h He visited
- 34:07Speaker 1: the Fishman and was you know, being racist and throwing
- 34:12Speaker 1: his weight around and YadA YadA, and he eventually his
- 34:21Speaker 1: life is saved by the Queen who throws herself in
- 34:24Speaker 1: front of him when somebody tries to shoot at him
- 34:27Speaker 1: and it graises her. She isn't that's not what kills her,
- 34:31Speaker 1: But it's a moment of great sacrifice and faith in
- 34:36Speaker 1: humankind that has made a huge impression on him and
- 34:41Speaker 1: has caused him to turn over a new leaf and
- 34:46Speaker 1: try and be a better person from within the celestial
- 34:50Speaker 1: dragons and you know, be a conscience to this family,
- 34:58Speaker 1: I think is like the best way to put it.
- 35:03Speaker 1: And he is, like the way that he went after
- 35:08Speaker 1: this guy is absolutely street cred. For me, it's one
- 35:15Speaker 1: thing to just say that I'm going to try and
- 35:18Speaker 1: stop everything that's happening. It's another thing to come out
- 35:23Speaker 1: and just beat your own brother or cousin or whatever.
- 35:29Speaker 1: And he's putting his money where his mouth is in public,
- 35:32Speaker 1: and I really appreciate this. And he's talking to the
- 35:38Speaker 1: king and he is just like, I'm going to do
- 35:41Speaker 1: anything in my power to help you. And he tells
- 35:45Speaker 1: Cipher Poul to get the fuck out. He tells the
- 35:48Speaker 1: slave catcher that that's the princess and he like immediately
- 35:52Speaker 1: lets go with a gasp, which the fact that y'all
- 35:54Speaker 1: didn't know is bonkers. Like they got an official greeting
- 35:59Speaker 1: and every thing and came out how many giant mermaids
- 36:02Speaker 1: are there? But it is what it is. So we've
- 36:07Speaker 1: got one celestial dragon that seems to be worth something here.
- 36:15Speaker 1: I really I want this to be something, but it's
- 36:19Speaker 1: just a difficult thing. Like this came up for me
- 36:23Speaker 1: and Rashaan in a conversation about like vigilante group in
- 36:30Speaker 1: the Dress and Files, where we were talking about the
- 36:34Speaker 1: one bad Apple defense. And there are different types of
- 36:39Speaker 1: organizations in which I think there can be one bad apple.
- 36:44Speaker 1: But then there are organizations like the police, where the
- 36:48Speaker 1: whole way that you train is by backing up your
- 36:56Speaker 1: like you circle the wagons, and you back everybody up
- 37:00Speaker 1: that's in your team, regardless of the truth, and that's
- 37:03Speaker 1: what you are trained to do, and you are ostracized
- 37:06Speaker 1: if you don't. So in that kind of environment, one
- 37:09Speaker 1: bad apple is not a legitimate suggestion, because the point
- 37:16Speaker 1: of it is all the other apples circle around the
- 37:20Speaker 1: bad apple and make it so that you can't grab
- 37:23Speaker 1: that bad apple and pull them out, and in doing
- 37:26Speaker 1: that they become bad apples. Also, it's unclear the situation
- 37:34Speaker 1: with the Celestial Dragons, and I just keep thinking about,
- 37:39Speaker 1: like don Quixote's father and the fact that he broke
- 37:42Speaker 1: from the Celestial Dragons and wanted to just live a
- 37:46Speaker 1: regular life but was unprepared for the kind of vitriol
- 37:51Speaker 1: that they encountered. And I'm wondering how many other people
- 37:57Speaker 1: have abandoned the Celestial Dragons themselves and are out in
- 38:01Speaker 1: the world just living and in secret, you know, because
- 38:07Speaker 1: I feel like his spot was blown up some because
- 38:10Speaker 1: of the attitude that Don Quixote was taking. And I'm
- 38:17Speaker 1: wondering if, like I'm wondering if there's anybody out there
- 38:23Speaker 1: who managed to escape and just actually keep such a
- 38:28Speaker 1: low profile that no one found out and if they
- 38:33Speaker 1: were to come back and try and throw their weight
- 38:35Speaker 1: around with their family, would they be able to? Like
- 38:38Speaker 1: I'm assuming not because they've been gone for so long,
- 38:41Speaker 1: but yeah, I don't know. Sorry. Seraphim says there's a
- 38:49Speaker 1: reason Garb refuses to ever accept a promotion because going
- 38:52Speaker 1: any higher means he has to answer directly to the
- 38:54Speaker 1: celestial dragons, and he knows he'll just punch one in
- 38:57Speaker 1: the face if they try it. Not just most Guard,
- 39:00Speaker 1: don Quixote, most Guard so or relative of Dophie. Oh shit, Okay, yeah,
- 39:09Speaker 1: so anyway, this whole thing, it's like there's potential here,
- 39:13Speaker 1: but I just don't really know the dynamic within the family. Well,
- 39:17Speaker 1: and we haven't been shown much, you know, it's just
- 39:22Speaker 1: been them pretty much as the villains. And the instinct
- 39:28Speaker 1: that I have is like, well, tear them down then
- 39:31Speaker 1: just get rid of them all. But then we have
- 39:36Speaker 1: this one guy who has turned a corner to suggest
- 39:39Speaker 1: that maybe they can be redeemed, And of course you
- 39:42Speaker 1: need to want to be redeemed. But this guy experienced
- 39:47Speaker 1: something really specific that has changed his mind, and that's
- 39:51Speaker 1: sort of the difficulty, is like he got his mind
- 39:55Speaker 1: changed because somebody was willing to throw themselves over him
- 39:58Speaker 1: and like preach about the tall of us. But another
- 40:02Speaker 1: person would have simply heard the fact that they somebody
- 40:05Speaker 1: attempted to shoot them, and that would be all they
- 40:07Speaker 1: focused on, and not the fact that they were rescued
- 40:11Speaker 1: also by a fishman. It would be the fisherman tried
- 40:14Speaker 1: to shoot me, and that would be it. So it's
- 40:19Speaker 1: if you can never tell, you can never tell how
- 40:23Speaker 1: certain personalities are going to react to some things, because
- 40:27Speaker 1: there will be little details in there that will really
- 40:30Speaker 1: shift the whole way that they interpret an event. So
- 40:35Speaker 1: we go to the next episode, eight eighty seven, and
- 40:39Speaker 1: it's kind of getting a call from Big Mom and
- 40:45Speaker 1: it starts off with him drinking alone and yelling at
- 40:48Speaker 1: the guy who interrupts and being like, you know, I
- 40:50Speaker 1: don't like being interrupted when I'm drinking and this guy
- 40:52Speaker 1: just being like I know, I know, I know, I know.
- 40:54Speaker 1: But and we hear Big Mom's voice on the phone.
- 40:57Speaker 1: He's like, oh fine. So he takes her call and
- 41:02Speaker 1: she is letting him know that straw Hat is coming
- 41:06Speaker 1: and he's like, yeah, what you're warning me about him?
- 41:11Speaker 1: I think I can fucking handle this guy. And she's like, uh,
- 41:15Speaker 1: or you don't fucking lay a finger on him, because
- 41:19Speaker 1: I am going to handle him myself because if I don't,
- 41:23Speaker 1: I'm going to lose face. And she has to like
- 41:28Speaker 1: really explain this to him because he keeps wanting to
- 41:30Speaker 1: hear it, as Mom doubts whether or not he can
- 41:34Speaker 1: handle straw hat. But finally is like understanding what it
- 41:38Speaker 1: is that she is saying. And beyond that, his crew,
- 41:46Speaker 1: what is it that she said to beyond that his
- 41:51Speaker 1: crew took something of mine and I want it back?
- 41:56Speaker 1: What is it that they took? Did they take a
- 42:00Speaker 1: h is it? Is it Sangy for the wedding thing?
- 42:07Speaker 1: Or I'm trying to remember what else they took? Is
- 42:10Speaker 1: it uh the jimbei or oh Zeus, Sarah M says,
- 42:18Speaker 1: and Nami has Zeus. That's right, that's right. Okay. The
- 42:23Speaker 1: fact that Zeus is like a literal piece of her
- 42:26Speaker 1: soul and that he was still willing to fucking like
- 42:28Speaker 1: bounce on her is super embarrassing, Like your own soul
- 42:34Speaker 1: doesn't want to be around you. Yikes. Okay, So, uh
- 42:41Speaker 1: Kayito starts to say, I don't give a shit, I'm
- 42:45Speaker 1: gonna do what I want and She's like, uh, do
- 42:48Speaker 1: you not remember how you owe me big time? And
- 42:52Speaker 1: he says something like that was a long time ago,
- 42:56Speaker 1: and she responds, it doesn't matter. That a lifelong debt,
- 43:03Speaker 1: and he basically says, whatever you have going on with
- 43:09Speaker 1: him that you're pissed about, I promise I've got bigger
- 43:13Speaker 1: beef mine out weighs yours. And then we get the
- 43:18Speaker 1: refresh on the fact that Do Flamingo was in cohoots
- 43:22Speaker 1: with Kaido on those artificial devil fruits and the whole
- 43:26Speaker 1: factory and how all of that went down. I'm so
- 43:31Speaker 1: glad we get this because I had utterly forgotten his
- 43:35Speaker 1: connection to anything. And I'm not like, I feel like
- 43:42Speaker 1: that's valid, you know what I mean? I just feel
- 43:45Speaker 1: like he we've seen him as this like very hulking,
- 43:50Speaker 1: menacing figure around, but it always has sort of there's
- 43:55Speaker 1: been this sense of like disconnect with him him. So yeah,
- 44:03Speaker 1: I just personally was It's it's part of the overall
- 44:09Speaker 1: issue with the way that things work with one piece
- 44:13Speaker 1: is like, we have to keep introducing threats and make
- 44:19Speaker 1: them bigger and bigger, But how exactly do you do
- 44:23Speaker 1: that and always ensure that they feel frightening and always
- 44:28Speaker 1: ensure that we are invested. And there's only so many
- 44:33Speaker 1: ways that you can really do that in a book.
- 44:37Speaker 1: We can have like a POV chapter and really get
- 44:40Speaker 1: into the meat of what is going on with this
- 44:42Speaker 1: bad guy? What are his objectives, what is it that
- 44:44Speaker 1: he's like, how are his minions like, how does he
- 44:48Speaker 1: treat other people? And you can get a very good
- 44:53Speaker 1: sense of a person that sort of pumps you up
- 44:56Speaker 1: for what's coming. But I feel like a lot of
- 45:01Speaker 1: the introductions of Baddie's tend towards being a little one note,
- 45:07Speaker 1: and eventually, when you meet them properly and spend some
- 45:11Speaker 1: time around them, you start to see like, Okay, actually
- 45:14Speaker 1: there is something different about this guy, but it's not
- 45:18Speaker 1: really showcased in our first like introduction. And so like
- 45:24Speaker 1: we've got that Kaido is extremely big, that he drinks
- 45:28Speaker 1: a lot, everybody around him is intimidated by him. And
- 45:32Speaker 1: we had like that one time where didn't he like
- 45:36Speaker 1: he did something crazy, like he jumped into the sky
- 45:39Speaker 1: and like got somebody who was on a sky island
- 45:42Speaker 1: or something. What was that guy's This is a while back,
- 45:45Speaker 1: uh Sarah here Saraphim says, we already had an intro
- 45:49Speaker 1: to Kaido where when he yiaded himself off about ten
- 45:53Speaker 1: thousand foot high cloud then stood up out of the crater.
- 45:56Speaker 1: That's what it is. I feel like I don't connect
- 46:05Speaker 1: as much to the baddies that are just showing us
- 46:10Speaker 1: like physical prowess. It doesn't make the same sort of impression.
- 46:14Speaker 1: It's crazy to watch him, of course, and you're like
- 46:17Speaker 1: seeing him land in the way everything, you know, But uh,
- 46:23Speaker 1: I just want more about the person that's a little
- 46:29Speaker 1: bit more specific, for it to be something that I
- 46:32Speaker 1: can grab a hold of. And Okay, yeah, Florian is
- 46:36Speaker 1: saying he tries to kill himself for some reason, but
- 46:38Speaker 1: can't buy the looks of it, and I feel like
- 46:40Speaker 1: I remember him saying, I've tried to kill myself a
- 46:43Speaker 1: bunch of ways and it never works. And you know
- 46:46Speaker 1: that's something like, tell me get get into the meat
- 46:49Speaker 1: of that. Why is it that he wants to kill
- 46:51Speaker 1: himself so bad? What has he tried? Like? I think
- 46:54Speaker 1: he lists off a few examples in that conversation, but
- 46:58Speaker 1: like us all of them, let's really do this for
- 47:03Speaker 1: a second. You know, I would love a bit of
- 47:07Speaker 1: a detour like that. That's a lot more about him
- 47:11Speaker 1: as an individual, But it just seems like a lot
- 47:15Speaker 1: of the baddies when we first meet them, what we
- 47:17Speaker 1: get is purely a dialogue between them and another battye
- 47:22Speaker 1: where they say the most generic like I, you know,
- 47:28Speaker 1: he's getting too big for his breeches and I'm going
- 47:30Speaker 1: to handle him, or I'm the one who's going to
- 47:33Speaker 1: take him down before so and so like. It always
- 47:36Speaker 1: tends to be the same type of smack talk, and
- 47:40Speaker 1: I just don't find that intimidating anymore. Really, it has
- 47:44Speaker 1: to be extremely good smack talk. It has to be
- 47:47Speaker 1: really specific for me to feel like I should be
- 47:51Speaker 1: concerned at all. So Saraphim says, we're just starting the arc,
- 47:57Speaker 1: give Oda time to cook. But that's my point, sarahm
- 48:01Speaker 1: is that's what I feel about the intros of these characters.
- 48:05Speaker 1: And I feel like we can start an arc with
- 48:07Speaker 1: me being invested a lot more right away if we
- 48:11Speaker 1: did more than just the same kind of thing over
- 48:14Speaker 1: and over again. Because the arc, I like the start
- 48:21Speaker 1: of it. You're making your first impression and it's just
- 48:27Speaker 1: it's just sort of eh a lot, you know, and
- 48:30Speaker 1: once you get to know things and get to know
- 48:33Speaker 1: the character more you do eventually start to feel like, Okay,
- 48:36Speaker 1: I see what's going on, and this is interesting. But
- 48:40Speaker 1: I feel like you could like mix and match the
- 48:42Speaker 1: dialogue and the scenes of a lot of the baddies
- 48:46Speaker 1: and you would never notice at all because it's so interchangeable.
- 48:51Speaker 1: And if they have a distinct personality that you're going
- 48:54Speaker 1: to bring out of the woodwork later, let's like really
- 48:56Speaker 1: see that right away. Give me some of that. Have
- 48:59Speaker 1: it be that there's like a good amount of time
- 49:02Speaker 1: spent with that battie that isn't with the straw Hats
- 49:06Speaker 1: involved at all, and let me get acquainted a little
- 49:10Speaker 1: bit so that I can feel concerned about the fact
- 49:14Speaker 1: that our guys are sailing right into danger from the
- 49:17Speaker 1: specific person. So anyway, yeah, that's my criticism, but I
- 49:23Speaker 1: will say again that I appreciate the refresh on his
- 49:26Speaker 1: connection to the artificial Devil first, because I had totally
- 49:28Speaker 1: forgot about that. And we, you know, go back in
- 49:33Speaker 1: time and see everybody, like we see what was going
- 49:36Speaker 1: on with that fight and everything, and then we find
- 49:39Speaker 1: out hilariously that the world government has a tap on
- 49:43Speaker 1: Kaido's phone, and it's like all of them are kind
- 49:47Speaker 1: of they must know we're listening. They're using their own
- 49:54Speaker 1: like regular old phone. They're not trying to get in
- 49:58Speaker 1: touch covertly. They're saying all of this and letting us
- 50:02Speaker 1: know what's going on, which feels like then it must
- 50:06Speaker 1: be some kind of deceit. It can't be what it
- 50:10Speaker 1: looks like. What are the odds of that? And I
- 50:15Speaker 1: really do like this angle of it a lot of
- 50:19Speaker 1: just trying to understand why would they do it this
- 50:21Speaker 1: way and not keep it secret? Like Big Mom is
- 50:25Speaker 1: the one who initiates the call, so is she trying
- 50:30Speaker 1: to set Kito up because she thinks he's not going
- 50:32Speaker 1: to be smart enough to keep his mouth shut or
- 50:34Speaker 1: hide what his intentions are or what you know? And
- 50:39Speaker 1: then they all have to decide what they're going to
- 50:41Speaker 1: do about it. So Kaito's like, you know, setting his
- 50:45Speaker 1: cap and about to head out to face off with Loofy,
- 50:49Speaker 1: And now they're all like, should we fucking get involved?
- 50:52Speaker 1: Is this even like something that we should be worrying
- 50:56Speaker 1: about because it's a weird thing with these emperors of
- 50:59Speaker 1: thee being so ope that the world government trying to
- 51:04Speaker 1: stop them doing something is a fucking mission, you know,
- 51:08Speaker 1: that's that's a tall order. So I do. I think
- 51:13Speaker 1: that that aspect of it, with everybody just trying to
- 51:16Speaker 1: figure out like what the fuck is it that they're
- 51:18Speaker 1: trying to do, is genuinely really funny. And let's say
- 51:25Speaker 1: I'm trying to find this bit here, uh because we
- 51:29Speaker 1: do get the flashback as well to like when Lufy
- 51:32Speaker 1: first talked to Big Mom and tells her that he's
- 51:35Speaker 1: coming over there and that he's going to kick her ass.
- 51:38Speaker 1: I've forgotten that he just says that to her, but
- 51:41Speaker 1: it's great, and I mean he does. He doesn't kill her,
- 51:44Speaker 1: but he does like just you know, really kind of
- 51:49Speaker 1: fuck her day up. So I feel like that's something.
- 51:53Speaker 1: So then we go over to uh Garp and he is,
- 51:59Speaker 1: you know, listening to all of this gossip and laughing
- 52:04Speaker 1: at the fact that Lufy just keeps on sort of
- 52:07Speaker 1: biting off more than he can chew. There is a
- 52:10Speaker 1: guy here who's new, who's got like a Southern accent.
- 52:14Speaker 1: It's a very cowboy sort of vibe from this dude
- 52:17Speaker 1: that I don't remember his name, but he is saying
- 52:24Speaker 1: that like maybe Lufy is getting a little bit big
- 52:27Speaker 1: for his breeches. Perhaps Saraphim says, just beating one emperor
- 52:32Speaker 1: took the entire navy HQ, multiple vice admirals, all three admirals,
- 52:36Speaker 1: and all seven war lords, and it still fucked them
- 52:38Speaker 1: up hard. If two of them ever teamed up, they
- 52:40Speaker 1: know they are fucked Yeah, exactly, And like what gard
- 52:47Speaker 1: is saying is essentially this is none of our business,
- 52:52Speaker 1: like we don't need to be involved at all. And
- 52:56Speaker 1: he's just sort of observing, like he's eating popcorn, you know.
- 53:01Speaker 1: And there is a woman there who says something about
- 53:07Speaker 1: how the Rocks look at you as a hero and
- 53:11Speaker 1: maybe you should take this all a little bit more seriously,
- 53:16Speaker 1: and he seems a bit irritated at her bringing this up.
- 53:20Speaker 1: And it's like, oh, sure, I thought you were too
- 53:23Speaker 1: young to even know about that. And it's a very
- 53:27Speaker 1: it's a different sort of vibe here because like the
- 53:31Speaker 1: narrator actually says, oh, so, what's the deal with the
- 53:36Speaker 1: rocks and what's Garb's connection to the rocks? What does
- 53:39Speaker 1: it all mean? And I was like, why are you?
- 53:42Speaker 1: Why are you doing this? Like we have had so
- 53:45Speaker 1: many moments where something really weird is introduced or somebody
- 53:48Speaker 1: says something that's like obviously leading into a new storyline,
- 53:53Speaker 1: but we never have the narrator just sort of editorializing
- 53:56Speaker 1: or being like huh, huh, you see what's going on there?
- 53:59Speaker 1: Huh to make you wonder. It was just a really
- 54:02Speaker 1: like a surprising tone, and I was like, why now,
- 54:06Speaker 1: why is this something that he's like, We've got actual
- 54:10Speaker 1: dialogue for with him, you know. So we then have
- 54:18Speaker 1: this like moment of all of these men in what
- 54:24Speaker 1: are these guys? They're the World government, but there's a
- 54:26Speaker 1: name for them. I forgot, but you know, somebody is
- 54:29Speaker 1: coming to visit them, and they're saying like, oh, we
- 54:31Speaker 1: thought that you would have had the sense to stay
- 54:34Speaker 1: out of the politics. So what is it that you're
- 54:37Speaker 1: doing here when we've got the whole reverie going on?
- 54:41Speaker 1: And somebody else is pretty quick to be like, but
- 54:45Speaker 1: we appreciate the honor of your presence. And he sits
- 54:50Speaker 1: down and you can see that it's Shanks, like the
- 54:55Speaker 1: the red hair and everything out the corner of his eye,
- 55:00Speaker 1: and he says, I need to speak to you about
- 55:03Speaker 1: a certain pirate and we just get thee to be continued.
- 55:10Speaker 1: So the Five Elders is the name of these guys. Cool, cool, cool,
- 55:15Speaker 1: thank you. Uh Now, it maybe that it's not really
- 55:24Speaker 1: really Shanks, but it looks like him, and I'm assuming
- 55:30Speaker 1: it is unless he's got like a twin or somebody
- 55:33Speaker 1: there's a shape shifter, which like god knows, could be
- 55:35Speaker 1: fucking true, speaking of where's my mister too? But uh yeah,
- 55:43Speaker 1: so that's that's the end of the episode, is him
- 55:45Speaker 1: just saying that to them. And then to talk about
- 55:49Speaker 1: the the comic, I hesitate to call it that it's
- 55:55Speaker 1: a cover story, I think is what Florian calls it about.
- 55:58Speaker 1: And now this, this is such a weird one. So
- 56:01Speaker 1: and now I had forgotten about how he keeps calling
- 56:03Speaker 1: the moon the verth and he like wants to go
- 56:09Speaker 1: there and rule over it, because you get the impression
- 56:12Speaker 1: that he just doesn't really understand that there's nothing or
- 56:15Speaker 1: and no one there, But it turns out there is
- 56:18Speaker 1: somebody there. Now this is a weird I I'll be honest.
- 56:23Speaker 1: I felt a little bit confused here because they've got
- 56:27Speaker 1: a guy who's like on Earth making these little creatures,
- 56:33Speaker 1: but then it seems like there's a whole factory of
- 56:36Speaker 1: them on the Moon also, And I'm like, did they
- 56:40Speaker 1: know that his idea had like how did this information
- 56:46Speaker 1: make it there and how are they utilizing it when
- 56:49Speaker 1: it seems the inventor is down here. The way that
- 56:57Speaker 1: it starts off is that and now, like, you know,
- 57:01Speaker 1: he reaches the moon and there are some guys who
- 57:03Speaker 1: try and start shit with him right away that he
- 57:06Speaker 1: beats the shit out of. And he had seen some
- 57:09Speaker 1: fallen soldiers who it turns out aren't dead, and they
- 57:12Speaker 1: get like woken up by the fact that he like
- 57:16Speaker 1: is you know, getting in fights with everybody, and uh,
- 57:22Speaker 1: the sorry, the one that wakes up. There's like a
- 57:26Speaker 1: bunch of his brethren who were dead and he's crying
- 57:30Speaker 1: and they have a really weird look to them. They
- 57:32Speaker 1: almost look like terriers, like little dogs. They have like
- 57:38Speaker 1: kind of that look. But uh, sorry, Saraphim says, Space
- 57:44Speaker 1: pirates are cannon to one piece. No one has any
- 57:48Speaker 1: idea what the fuck to do with this info. Florian says,
- 57:52Speaker 1: all of this is canon, and yes it is very weird.
- 57:55Speaker 1: Some people at every arc are like and now will
- 57:57Speaker 1: come down from the moon and smite everybody. It will
- 57:59Speaker 1: have been soon like a cult. That is hilarious. I
- 58:03Speaker 1: really like the idea of having this extremely weird thing
- 58:06Speaker 1: going on in the background in his back pocket, because
- 58:10Speaker 1: like anytime Oda decides that he has written himself into
- 58:13Speaker 1: a corner, he can just pull this out and be like,
- 58:16Speaker 1: technically this is canon and anybody who knows knows it.
- 58:19Speaker 1: So he's sort of got a diosex machina in like
- 58:22Speaker 1: the most literal sense, just in case. And I think
- 58:27Speaker 1: that's actually a really really smart idea. But yeah, so
- 58:32Speaker 1: like the whole way that this unfolds is of course,
- 58:36Speaker 1: like he is just very aggressive, so even the guys
- 58:41Speaker 1: who are like on his side, he attacks as well
- 58:45Speaker 1: without really like thinking about it at all. We have
- 58:49Speaker 1: a moment let's see Junior Lieutenant Spacey defeated by a
- 58:54Speaker 1: Space Pirate, this little guy, Oh my god. And then
- 59:00Speaker 1: let's see in L's Great Space Mission Volume fifteen, Space
- 59:05Speaker 1: Pirates Moon Remains excavation plan, which that sentence doesn't make
- 59:12Speaker 1: sense to me or this title or whatever, like moon
- 59:17Speaker 1: remains is that meant to be just like what's left
- 59:22Speaker 1: of the moon? What does that mean? And we see
- 59:27Speaker 1: like that there is a really huge there's a lot
- 59:34Speaker 1: of diversity in the Space Pirates, and it's also the
- 59:40Speaker 1: way that they're illustrated is a little bit different. So
- 59:43Speaker 1: because we've got you know, we've got some of these
- 59:46Speaker 1: animal people, but one of them is really resembles like
- 59:50Speaker 1: Goofy in a way in he obviously his vibe is
- 59:55Speaker 1: extremely different, but the way that he's drawn is released similar.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: We've got a guy who's like looks like a tiger,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: but there's something bizarre about how he is standing that
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: makes me think that he's like actually a robot or something.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: He's got like a clockwork thing on his front that
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: I think is meant to be an indicator that he is, like,
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: you know, some kind of automaton. And the old man
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: that this guy, this uh sort of dog man is
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: talking to. At first I think he's human, but then
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: when I look at the way that he's drawn, I'm
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: almost like, are the buttons on his front meant like
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: are those like buttons like clothing buttons or those like
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: robot buttons? Is he also a robot? And I couldn't
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: tell because it's like all of this is going on.
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: It feels after I really lost. I went through this
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: more than once, and I still felt really really confused
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: about it both times because I think that this is
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: supposed to be that like we're jumping back in time
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: and seeing something that happened before, but there's nothing to
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: really indicate that, so I might be wrong. And then
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: the next panel is and Neelle's Great Space Mission Volume
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: fifteen Descent, and it's a spaceship but and Neelle is
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: standing on it as if he's like taking custody of
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: it or something. And I don't know if descent is
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: supposed to mean like we're going into the center of
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: the moon or what. But we then jumped to flashback
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: born that day on Kairokouri Island, and we get to
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: see how these little like soldier guys were built by
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: this sort of tinkerer dude who loved the moon and
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: loved to sit and watch it. And one day there's
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: like an explosion and it causes him to have a
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: heart attack and die. And so all of these little
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: robots decide to go to the Moon to get revenge
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: on the person that blew the moon up and essentially
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: like get their asses absolutely handed to them. And this
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: as well, and when Annelle shows up, but he sees
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: that the space Pirates dug up some kind of like
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: opening in the in a cave, and when he goes in,
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: there's just a whole city inside the moon, and when
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: he uses his electrical powers to attack the town, it
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: turns out the city is like full of tiny robots
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: and his electrical powers charge them up, and so they
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: like come to attention and walk and join him as
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: loyal soldiers because he's the one who brought them to life.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: And I do not understand, like, does the guy did
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: the guy on Earth who built these robots build those too,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: or had he seen those and that's why he was
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: obsessed with the moon or did he come from the
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: moon or Florian says this cover story came out when
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: the straw Hats were on thriller Bark. I think I
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: just put it here because there are so many flashbacks
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: in the episodes and we've not talked about the cover
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: story yet. Think of it as a bonus. Sarah Fem says,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: good questions we would like to know as well. Okay,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: I'm glad that I didn't miss anything, though, because I
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: was feeling, like like I said, I went back and
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: reread it a couple times because I was going, hold on,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: I must have like not gotten something and no, it's
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: just a very confusing thing. The city on the moon
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: is also named Burka. Lacking natural resources, they flew to
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: the blue plain it So I think it's supposed to
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: be that they are an original species, these robots, like
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: nobody built them, that this is just what they are,
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: and they went to Earth themselves, but some of them
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: were left behind. I don't know, guys, but suffice to
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: say it ends with and now being like, awesome, I
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: have my own army. And he's acting very much like
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: he's about to go and start some shit, but we
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: don't actually have that happen. He's just saying like full
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: tanks is like the last thing he says. So he's
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: just up there with these like little guys. And I
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: really don't know what to make of any of this.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: Seraphim says, it's not the robots that went. The picture
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: on the mural shows winged humans. So the implication is
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: the Shandians and the sky people came from the moon.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: Ah Okay, I forgot about the mention of them having wings,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: but I still even remembering that, I would not have
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: put it together because I forgot that those people have wings.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: I completely forgot that, so definitely needed that reminder. What
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: a weird one though, real, real weird. All right, well,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: I'm over time, so I'm going to wrap this up.
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: But uh, I'm glad that we've gotten it straightened out,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: that we've gone back and you know, figured this and Florian,
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: thank you for messing with the schedule so that I
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: could fit this and not fuck everything up. I hope
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: that y'all are enjoying the coverage despite me being wildly inconsistent.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: And until next time to THELU motherfuckers. That was an
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: unspoiled network podcast.
