- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello. Let's welcome back to another episode of Star Wars
- 0:23Speaker 2: Alliance your home on Geek Ultimate Alliance Podcast Network, and
- 0:27Speaker 2: I'll thanks Star Wars. I'm your host as always, Katie,
- 0:31Speaker 2: and with me as per usual. It's Clay. Clay. How
- 0:34Speaker 2: are you doing today?
- 0:36Speaker 3: I am actually doing pretty good. I see a very
- 0:41Speaker 3: long night in my future and probably not sleeping, so
- 0:50Speaker 3: I have to first edit this. I'm gonna edit this,
- 0:55Speaker 3: oh yeah yeah, But immediately after I have to do
- 1:00Speaker 3: something for Volume Comics that I have been kind of
- 1:05Speaker 3: procrastinating on and I want to get it done before
- 1:10Speaker 3: the weekend. I want to get it done before the
- 1:12Speaker 3: weekend because this Saturday, I'm gonna be at Chicago Comic Con,
- 1:16Speaker 3: so I don't have any time to really do anything
- 1:19Speaker 3: on the weekend, and I asked off for both Saturday
- 1:23Speaker 3: and Sunday. Sunday, I am literally just like staying in bed,
- 1:26Speaker 3: like I am. I know I'm gonna do a lot
- 1:29Speaker 3: of walking on Saturday, so I'm just gonna be like, hey,
- 1:32Speaker 3: I'm just gonna be in bed. I'm not gonna do anything.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Probably look at my phone every once in a while,
- 1:37Speaker 3: so in order to kind of prep for Chicago. I
- 1:41Speaker 3: want to get as much done as I possibly can.
- 1:43Speaker 3: So I have one project that I need to do
- 1:47Speaker 3: immediately after I finish editing this episode, and then after
- 1:53Speaker 3: I'm done with that, I have to prep our kitchen
- 1:57Speaker 3: for more maintenance people to come into the kitchen again.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Because Abby is still seeing water underneath the sink that
- 2:10Speaker 3: is not coming from our pipe. So I don't know,
- 2:15Speaker 3: your whole kitchen torn apart. I don't know, and it's scary.
- 2:21Speaker 3: So I have to prep the kitchen, clean out the sink, uh,
- 2:25Speaker 3: you know, do everything that I can to make it
- 2:27Speaker 3: all nice and actually like manageable for a maintenance guy
- 2:31Speaker 3: to come in and like look at it. So I
- 2:33Speaker 3: have to do all of that, and then guys, remember
- 2:39Speaker 3: the morning, and then I have to go at three
- 2:40Speaker 3: am in the morning, exactly. I am somebody with ADHD.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Let me just let me like this is so disgusting
- 2:49Speaker 3: and embarrassing. I'm just going to quick photo. This is
- 2:56Speaker 3: right next to me. There's just bottles and bottles of
- 3:00Speaker 3: bottles and cans and bottles and bottles and bottles. That's
- 3:04Speaker 3: kind of all over the house. But there's it's it's
- 3:08Speaker 3: in stations. So Abby's like, that's claystation one, station two,
- 3:14Speaker 3: and it's finally gotten to a point where Abby's like
- 3:17Speaker 3: clean it now, and I'm like, got it. So I'm
- 3:22Speaker 3: doing that tonight as well. So I'm doing all of that,
- 3:27Speaker 3: and then if I attempt to go to sleep after that,
- 3:30Speaker 3: I'm sleeping through every single alarm. So I'm just going
- 3:34Speaker 3: to stay up, take a shower. Thankfully, the coworker that
- 3:39Speaker 3: I stream after at work, he is not coming in tonight,
- 3:43Speaker 3: so I'm going to go in early.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Oh okay, so you're gonna start yes, so hopefully you
- 3:50Speaker 2: could get off a little earlier.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Yes, But also if I wanted to stay because I
- 3:56Speaker 3: asked off on Saturday, I can still get my hours.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, so that makes sense.
- 4:02Speaker 3: I'm just gonna be zoom zoom zoom, zoom, zoom zoom zoom. Yeah.
- 4:06Speaker 3: So I have been drinking a lot of water. Yes,
- 4:11Speaker 3: I have been drinking a lot of water. But also
- 4:15Speaker 3: I think it was actually Brent who reminded me that
- 4:19Speaker 3: these are a thing we've been talking about, like what
- 4:23Speaker 3: the release schedule of Daredevil would be like, Uh, they
- 4:27Speaker 3: just released it like literally a couple hours before it
- 4:30Speaker 3: was releasing yesterday. So we were like, oh, crap, is
- 4:34Speaker 3: it all gonna drop it once? What's gonna happen? Blah
- 4:36Speaker 3: blah blah, And Britt was like, well, if two or
- 4:39Speaker 3: three episodes drop it once, I guess I'm just gonna
- 4:41Speaker 3: take caffeine pills. And I'm like, I have caffeine pills.
- 4:45Speaker 3: I forgot I have these. I could just use those
- 4:48Speaker 3: instead of like going out for soda and energy drinks
- 4:51Speaker 3: and all this other stuff. And I can still drink water,
- 4:53Speaker 3: so I might be like just packing that into my
- 4:58Speaker 3: backpack for work from now on if I have need
- 5:00Speaker 3: to do this again. But I'm not gonna make it
- 5:04Speaker 3: a habit, because I did at one point make it
- 5:06Speaker 3: a habit when we were watching stuff at like two
- 5:08Speaker 3: am for Star Wars Alliance and stuff, and uh, those
- 5:12Speaker 3: were crazy days and the only reason why I was
- 5:16Speaker 3: doing it because of course Amberlin was an infant and
- 5:19Speaker 3: I was already needed this stay up for her anyway.
- 5:22Speaker 3: So yeah, it's it's it's today, today, today, slash tomorrow
- 5:28Speaker 3: is gonna be a little crazy, and I.
- 5:33Speaker 2: Just felt trauma life update.
- 5:38Speaker 3: I know, I know that I'm just going to crash
- 5:42Speaker 3: when I get home, which is going to be for
- 5:44Speaker 3: the best. So I think the last time I did
- 5:48Speaker 3: and ready to go for Saturday. Yeah, the the literal
- 5:52Speaker 3: last time I did this, I came home and I
- 5:55Speaker 3: literally slept for like five hours. So yeah, that that's
- 6:00Speaker 3: that's how that's how my day is going to be
- 6:02Speaker 3: going and how it is going. But guys, this is
- 6:06Speaker 3: not just a therapeutic podcast. This is a Star Wars podcast.
- 6:13Speaker 3: And we kind of looked and scoured through some stuff.
- 6:17Speaker 3: There's not really any news out there in big updates.
- 6:22Speaker 3: There was one new I think short TV spot somewhere
- 6:28Speaker 3: for Mandalorian gro whu. Yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I haven't been watching those, mainly because I'm not really
- 6:33Speaker 2: present on social media anymore.
- 6:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Plus I'm kind of done with the trailers. Yeah, like
- 6:40Speaker 2: another big one comes out.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Unless there's a really big one, then I will go
- 6:45Speaker 3: ahead and watch it. Otherwise, I think I'm done with
- 6:47Speaker 3: it also, and I'm kind of just wanted to be
- 6:49Speaker 3: surprised in the theater. One thing I will say though,
- 6:54Speaker 3: that I did not know was a thing until I
- 6:56Speaker 3: was looking for news for today. Apparently there is a
- 7:03Speaker 3: contest for the Mandalorian Grogu premiere.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Yes, I saw that for Disney Plus perks.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Yes, for Disney Plus perks Disney Plus subscribers, excuse me.
- 7:16Speaker 3: You can submit an entry once per day all the
- 7:20Speaker 3: way up until April sixteenth. And I was like, yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 3: I don't know how like long this has been going
- 7:28Speaker 3: on already, so I'm probably like way behind if I even.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I think for those you still have to pay for,
- 7:34Speaker 2: like your flight and stuff.
- 7:36Speaker 3: This one actually says that everything is included. Oh okay,
- 7:39Speaker 3: then I might which is really which really surprising for
- 7:44Speaker 3: Disney to do. Yeah, and I can double check it
- 7:47Speaker 3: was Star Wars News Net that did it. Yeah, right here,
- 7:53Speaker 3: So the premiere it says right here, the trip in
- 8:00Speaker 3: cludes hotel, airfoil round trip transport to the hotel, any
- 8:05Speaker 3: one hundred dollars cash or cash equivalent. So I'm assuming
- 8:12Speaker 3: that the one hundred dollars cash would probably be for food,
- 8:17Speaker 3: your your per diem basically. Yeah. So I think that's
- 8:23Speaker 3: pretty cool that they're willing to do that kind of thing.
- 8:26Speaker 2: I might have on it just for kicks and giggles
- 8:29Speaker 2: and see what happens. So the other bigger piece of
- 8:37Speaker 2: news that I would say is the the AI. The
- 8:42Speaker 2: open AI generator guy a guy the ai Open Ai.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Yes, open ai is a.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Video generator tool. Sora is shutting down, and with that,
- 9:02Speaker 2: Disney has completely dropped out of their contract to out
- 9:06Speaker 2: of produce AI things.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Out of their contract with open Ai. Apparently, they did
- 9:12Speaker 3: come out with a statement saying that they will look
- 9:15Speaker 3: for other means of AI that respect the content and
- 9:21Speaker 3: the creators behind it. That's kind of an oxymoron, but
- 9:26Speaker 3: I'm not entirely sure how that's gonna work.
- 9:29Speaker 2: You know, well because looking at the Moana live action trailer,
- 9:34Speaker 2: that thing looks AI as crap.
- 9:38Speaker 3: Just saying.
- 9:41Speaker 2: We'll leave it at that, but we're super happy by
- 9:43Speaker 2: the zews. Less AI is good AI.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Yeah, no, no, no, I think this is this is
- 9:53Speaker 3: a huge win. It has been I think since December
- 10:00Speaker 3: that we have just been seeing loss after loss after
- 10:03Speaker 3: loss after loss on open ais front. And I hope
- 10:09Speaker 3: it's just like the beginning. Yeah, because we have seen
- 10:16Speaker 3: that even in small towns, like people who actually fight
- 10:20Speaker 3: for their town are getting data centers completely canceled, which
- 10:26Speaker 3: I think is really really cool. And like.
- 10:32Speaker 2: What yeah, like my biggest issue with it is in
- 10:35Speaker 2: this generation, uh like creative generation, I have to use
- 10:41Speaker 2: it for work now, so I.
- 10:45Speaker 3: So this is something that me as like I've had
- 10:49Speaker 3: a moral dilemma recently for myself. I now own a
- 10:55Speaker 3: business and I am wanting to create a website and
- 10:59Speaker 3: an app. AI used in a proper sense for technoya
- 11:09Speaker 3: and building. I have now since learned asking somebody to
- 11:14Speaker 3: build a website or an app without using AI is like.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Basically non existent right.
- 11:20Speaker 3: Now, basically non existent currently right now, I've had a
- 11:25Speaker 3: lot of people laugh at me, a lot of people
- 11:27Speaker 3: say hey, good luck. And it has been a huge
- 11:31Speaker 3: like learning experience of saying, hey, as long as AI
- 11:37Speaker 3: is not touching the content of which I am actually
- 11:40Speaker 3: putting on my website, that is okay. I have always,
- 11:53Speaker 3: since starting this business, have had the idea of no
- 11:59Speaker 3: AI is AI excuse me, and with the idea of
- 12:07Speaker 3: somebody bigger doing the same kind of concept that I
- 12:12Speaker 3: am doing, but openly saying hey, we're using AI for everything.
- 12:18Speaker 3: It immediately like grinded my gears. I'm like, okay, this
- 12:21Speaker 3: is gonna motivate me anymore, Like even more, I'm not
- 12:24Speaker 3: gonna use AI for anything. And like I said, it's
- 12:29Speaker 3: been a huge struggle for people in tech to like
- 12:34Speaker 3: not embrace that. It makes things so much easier. Coding
- 12:39Speaker 3: is a lot easier. I've I've learned a little bit
- 12:42Speaker 3: of how like the coding is actually like you're able
- 12:45Speaker 3: to use AI as like an assistant for like copying
- 12:50Speaker 3: the code and like everything else and like doing all
- 12:52Speaker 3: of this other stuff. So I'm learning a little bit.
- 12:55Speaker 3: I can never do it myself, but I'm learning because
- 12:58Speaker 3: of the experience of me trying to get around it
- 13:01Speaker 3: for this specific use. When it comes to the content,
- 13:06Speaker 3: Like we said, one of the big reasons, one of
- 13:09Speaker 3: the big reasons why Disney is stepping away is because
- 13:12Speaker 3: for the past like two months, there has been AI
- 13:17Speaker 3: slop video after AI slop video of Star Wars characters,
- 13:21Speaker 3: of Marvel characters, and overall Disney characters all over the
- 13:26Speaker 3: internet right now. And they've thrown cease and desist letters
- 13:33Speaker 3: and everything else, but people still create them. People still
- 13:36Speaker 3: go out of their way because you know, the internet
- 13:39Speaker 3: is free. And so by taking all of that and
- 13:44Speaker 3: saying hey, you can no longer use our ips and
- 13:50Speaker 3: rescinding that one billion dollar contract that's gonna hurt open
- 13:55Speaker 3: AI a ton.
- 14:00Speaker 2: It makes me super happy about the content creation stuff.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Let's be clear, I don't want to get fired for
- 14:07Speaker 2: said AI related Yeah I think that about.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Covers, Yeah, I think so. And that does bring us
- 14:20Speaker 3: to our main topic, which is Star Wars hyperspace stories.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Grievous is our main topic of the day. The last
- 14:34Speaker 3: time we talked about one of these was uh correct.
- 14:41Speaker 3: And I'm gonna go ahead and start with my one
- 14:44Speaker 3: qualm of this story. In Qui gon Jin, there was
- 14:54Speaker 3: like three separate stories that connected the over arching story.
- 15:02Speaker 3: I was anticipating that in this book. I was anticipating
- 15:07Speaker 3: because it says hyperspace stories plural. I was expecting there
- 15:15Speaker 3: to be multiple stories, like an anthology for Grievous, that
- 15:21Speaker 3: would connect to a grander story. This is just one story.
- 15:27Speaker 3: The story is good. That story is good. It like
- 15:33Speaker 3: it doesn't necessarily bridge a huge gap in anything Clone
- 15:39Speaker 3: Wars related. Honestly, like if you watch all of Clone
- 15:45Speaker 3: Wars in Attack of the Clones, you're not thinking like,
- 15:50Speaker 3: oh man, how did this happen? And like this fixes it.
- 15:54Speaker 3: This is literally just a sidestep into the wars that
- 16:02Speaker 3: you know tells a little bit of a story on
- 16:05Speaker 3: Grievous and how he hunts quote unquote his Jedi.
- 16:12Speaker 2: So yeah, I felt like the story kind of takes
- 16:17Speaker 2: place early on in the Clone Wars where Grievous has
- 16:24Speaker 2: kind of been heard of, and I wanted that aspect
- 16:29Speaker 2: of it. I wanted this to be an introduction to
- 16:32Speaker 2: Grievous as a character, and it's not quite there. I
- 16:39Speaker 2: feel like it maybe was originally and then they were told, yeah, no,
- 16:44Speaker 2: you can't do that, and then so they had to
- 16:47Speaker 2: move it along because at one point the Jedi Master
- 16:51Speaker 2: involved in the story says, oh, I've I've heard of you,
- 16:59Speaker 2: but then he himself General Grievous and he got the
- 17:02Speaker 2: Jedi Master goes, uh, oh, so you got a promotion.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, that one was a little weird. That back
- 17:11Speaker 3: and forth was a little weird. I did clock that
- 17:14Speaker 3: this is.
- 17:17Speaker 2: Master Bardiff. Shoot, dang it, go back. This comic Guys
- 17:30Speaker 2: is written by Well, while Clay finds that it's written
- 17:33Speaker 2: by Michael Mareki, illustrated by Chow Felipe I totally butchered
- 17:40Speaker 2: that colored by Dan Jackson, lettered by Comic Crafts Tyler
- 17:46Speaker 2: Smith and Jimmy Bettencourt, and the cover art is by Michael.
- 17:50Speaker 3: Cho Cardiff Bay.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Cardiff Bee, Cardiff I think, is it Bake Hardiff? Oh no,
- 18:03Speaker 2: it is Cardiff By You're right.
- 18:04Speaker 3: Okay, because he said because he said general Bay, so
- 18:07Speaker 3: I'm assuming that is his last name.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah, he got called Cardiff by Kenobi at one point
- 18:14Speaker 2: and I got confused.
- 18:18Speaker 3: But I really enjoy the art. I think, like when
- 18:24Speaker 3: you really look at it, I think the art really
- 18:29Speaker 3: is appealing towards grievous. Yeah, and his stature in the
- 18:36Speaker 3: book is menacing, like he is claimed to be a
- 18:41Speaker 3: beast in this book, which I really do like. And
- 18:46Speaker 3: like I said earlier, he hunts his Jedi. He really
- 18:52Speaker 3: does feel like like a Craven the Hunter or a
- 18:58Speaker 3: death stroke. Like he feels like an a Assen in
- 19:01Speaker 3: this book, which I really do love. There's a really
- 19:05Speaker 3: cool panel in the very beginning where he is kind
- 19:09Speaker 3: of in front of the moon. In front of the moon.
- 19:12Speaker 3: I love this panel, absolutely gorgeous. And then there's another
- 19:18Speaker 3: panel where Bail is kind of looking or Bay not Bail, sorry,
- 19:25Speaker 3: Bey is looking into the forest because he has an inkling.
- 19:29Speaker 3: He has like a feeling of something and like it
- 19:33Speaker 3: goes deeper into the forest and deeper and deeper and deeper,
- 19:35Speaker 3: and then you just see the Yellow Eyes of Grievous.
- 19:38Speaker 3: That panel also was really really cool. But Katie, the
- 19:44Speaker 3: overall story, how did you feel like.
- 19:52Speaker 2: This?
- 19:52Speaker 3: I know sounds harsh, and again I think every story
- 19:57Speaker 3: out there is going to have its fans, and I
- 20:03Speaker 3: don't mean it to sound as harsh. But is this
- 20:06Speaker 3: a story that was truly needed for both sides of
- 20:12Speaker 3: let's say Grievous of course because of course this is
- 20:15Speaker 3: a Grievous title, or within the of Course Star Wars Mythos,
- 20:21Speaker 3: the Clone Wars timeline.
- 20:24Speaker 2: I feel like if this so I approached this from
- 20:28Speaker 2: two different ways, The story as is, I feel like
- 20:33Speaker 2: needs more characterization for Grievous, because this feels like we're
- 20:43Speaker 2: kind of getting a protagonist's view into Grievous instead of
- 20:48Speaker 2: a story from the antagonist point of view, Whereas I
- 20:51Speaker 2: felt like the Qui gon Chin story handled it a
- 20:56Speaker 2: little bit better in regards to Okay, we're having multiple
- 20:58Speaker 2: people tell this story, but we're approaching it in the
- 21:02Speaker 2: right way by still getting that characterization of Qui kN Jit. So,
- 21:08Speaker 2: as is, the story needed more characterization. If this had
- 21:12Speaker 2: been an introduction to like Grievous's first introduction to the
- 21:18Speaker 2: galaxy as a whole. I would have said this was
- 21:23Speaker 2: a perfect story, but it's not. So those are my
- 21:27Speaker 2: two like bigger critiques is there's not enough characterizational Grievous
- 21:32Speaker 2: for what the story is. This would have been a
- 21:35Speaker 2: better story if it was an introduction, if it was
- 21:40Speaker 2: Grievous's introduction to the galaxy.
- 21:43Speaker 3: And this is, like I said, it's a quick read.
- 21:46Speaker 3: I want to say, like not counting it page for page,
- 21:52Speaker 3: this feels like maybe a fifty five sixty page book.
- 21:58Speaker 3: It might be a little bigger, and you can on Wikipedia,
- 22:03Speaker 3: all right, there you go. I knew it was less
- 22:07Speaker 3: than one hundred this story. I want to ask, do
- 22:14Speaker 3: you think we will ever get a before Android book
- 22:24Speaker 3: on Grievous? Like, uh, will we ever get the story
- 22:28Speaker 3: of how he is created?
- 22:33Speaker 2: At this point? I don't think so. No, if this
- 22:38Speaker 2: was not that story to tell who Grievous was. Okay,
- 22:45Speaker 2: I don't picture expanding his story really because his story
- 22:52Speaker 2: that we know of is super short. Yes, so maybe
- 22:59Speaker 2: maybe like a cameo kind of how like we've gotten
- 23:02Speaker 2: like a Beers cameo in the Republic, you could maybe
- 23:08Speaker 2: say that. I don't think otherwise.
- 23:12Speaker 3: Okay, I can see that, yeah, because like even in
- 23:15Speaker 3: the beginning when you have Dooku, he kind of explains
- 23:18Speaker 3: a little bit like, oh, previously you were this, like
- 23:22Speaker 3: like he kind of hints at that story, but we
- 23:26Speaker 3: are here, you know. Yeah, I I think you're right.
- 23:33Speaker 3: I think that if honestly, if they were going to
- 23:37Speaker 3: put that story out there, it would have been around
- 23:41Speaker 3: the freaking twenty fifth anniversary of the character's death, you know. Yeah,
- 23:47Speaker 3: of episode three. What did you think about the character
- 23:54Speaker 3: of Cardiff this uh seemingly air against Jedi possibly, like
- 24:04Speaker 3: the way he even explains himself is like he is
- 24:09Speaker 3: kind of like an anakinesque character with kind of big head,
- 24:17Speaker 3: kind of show off the you know type of character.
- 24:21Speaker 3: What did you think of him? Overall?
- 24:25Speaker 2: I enjoyed his character a lot because it was it
- 24:32Speaker 2: was super intriguing to see how he approached his faith
- 24:38Speaker 2: as a concept versus like how Obi Wan and Anakin
- 24:44Speaker 2: really approach the Jedi order. I feel like is he
- 24:48Speaker 2: kind of it felt like a more Christianity take, if
- 24:56Speaker 2: that makes sense, because it was very much like a
- 25:01Speaker 2: like believe like the best in people like I don't
- 25:05Speaker 2: always see but I'm gonna believe still like I have faith.
- 25:11Speaker 3: The conversation between him and the Clone, I can't remember
- 25:14Speaker 3: the clone's name off the top of my head. I
- 25:18Speaker 3: thought that was a really interesting It's Max, by the way, Max. Okay, yeah,
- 25:25Speaker 3: between Cardiff and Max. I really really liked that conversation.
- 25:34Speaker 3: But it was too short. It was too little. It
- 25:38Speaker 3: was too little of a moment because you you feel
- 25:41Speaker 3: like that's gonna linger right the idea of faith because
- 25:46Speaker 3: at the end, at the end, when they're you know,
- 25:50Speaker 3: fighting Grievous, they're trying to get off the planet and
- 25:53Speaker 3: also kind of to let people know what this thing is.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Cardiff and his team are off to a planet in
- 26:02Speaker 3: wild space that they don't really know a whole lot about.
- 26:05Speaker 3: They haven't really been in contact with this planet. The
- 26:08Speaker 3: Republic hasn't in like a millennia, so like it's really
- 26:13Speaker 3: weird that they're kind of, you know, reaching out, so
- 26:16Speaker 3: they're gonna have Cardiff and his team go check it out.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Of course, we find out that Grievous is there, and
- 26:22Speaker 3: Grievous is literally there just to get Cardiff and his
- 26:25Speaker 3: team away from the war within itself. So near the end,
- 26:35Speaker 3: when it's starting to like get to the peak and
- 26:38Speaker 3: like getting ready to resolve. You would think that the
- 26:41Speaker 3: idea of faith would really come back and hit home,
- 26:47Speaker 3: but it's kind of stale, Like the idea of faith
- 26:53Speaker 3: doesn't really hit as hard as the actual conversation does
- 26:57Speaker 3: when the conversation happens with Max and the the reason why,
- 27:03Speaker 3: I think is because Max, because technically these clones are children.
- 27:11Speaker 3: They don't have a lot of concept of life, which
- 27:16Speaker 3: is also something that a lot of people need to
- 27:18Speaker 3: think about when they're having these topic conversations in comics
- 27:22Speaker 3: and everything else. He asks, like, you said something about faith,
- 27:26Speaker 3: but like what does that mean? And it's really funny
- 27:28Speaker 3: because that's exactly what like a child would say, and
- 27:32Speaker 3: he explains it. He's like, oh, well, faith is this
- 27:35Speaker 3: you know, I have faith in the Force, and I
- 27:36Speaker 3: know that the Force is this all, you know, all
- 27:40Speaker 3: encompassing thing that is with me and you, and you know,
- 27:43Speaker 3: no matter what happens, I know the Force is always
- 27:46Speaker 3: with me. And he's like, oh, well, so the force
- 27:52Speaker 3: kind of defines you. He's like, oh see, that's totally
- 27:55Speaker 3: something different, yea. And he starts to talk about like, oh,
- 27:58Speaker 3: you guys were bred to be warriors and you kind
- 28:01Speaker 3: of have this idea of like, hey, this is what
- 28:02Speaker 3: I have to be. Like, I really liked that psychology there.
- 28:09Speaker 2: It was a super nice dynamic to explore, Like, oh,
- 28:15Speaker 2: so you believe in a greater power that has control
- 28:17Speaker 2: over all things, so you don't have freedom of choice
- 28:21Speaker 2: and it's like, no, you do. Doesn't mean that it's
- 28:24Speaker 2: not going to know what you're gonna do and stuff,
- 28:29Speaker 2: but like you believe in the forest. Therefore you have
- 28:34Speaker 2: freedom of choice because you're picking what you think.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Yeah, basically, I always I've.
- 28:39Speaker 2: Always struggled with that concept myself. So this different perspective.
- 28:45Speaker 3: And it does really well with this concept of the
- 28:49Speaker 3: clones because we know that there are clones that are
- 28:54Speaker 3: a deserters eventually, so those clones have their free will
- 29:01Speaker 3: and are able to live their lives. Excuse me. So
- 29:06Speaker 3: I really like all of that. I just think that
- 29:09Speaker 3: it didn't quite hit home at the TSUE when I
- 29:13Speaker 3: do feel like it should have, because there is this
- 29:17Speaker 3: moment with Cardiff when he's fighting grievous when he does
- 29:22Speaker 3: mention faith again and it's all too quick. It's just
- 29:26Speaker 3: boom boom, boom, boom boom. You know. Really love the art.
- 29:31Speaker 3: I really like all of the panels of the fight.
- 29:35Speaker 3: I think it looks great, but again, I just think
- 29:38Speaker 3: it's way too quick to really hit home the key
- 29:43Speaker 3: points that the story was trying to hit. I do
- 29:49Speaker 3: like because even the moment where he is on his
- 29:54Speaker 3: communicator and he is talking to the residents of the planet,
- 30:01Speaker 3: he's like, you know, I really hope that you come
- 30:03Speaker 3: and you you know, you protect your planet and all
- 30:06Speaker 3: this other stuff, and like you feel like they're not
- 30:09Speaker 3: gonna come by that sentiment right just by the sentiment.
- 30:13Speaker 3: By by the next page, they're already there. So like
- 30:16Speaker 3: it again, just a little too short.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Yeah, and especially like I had issues with the planet
- 30:24Speaker 2: itself as well, because this is a new planet, I believe,
- 30:32Speaker 2: and they're very like harmonious, very one with nature, like
- 30:37Speaker 2: give and take kind of thing. We have our boundaries
- 30:40Speaker 2: from the giant dinosaur creatures, which were kind of cool
- 30:43Speaker 2: on the planet, Like they have one side of the planet,
- 30:46Speaker 2: we have the other basically, and they're like, oh no,
- 30:51Speaker 2: there's no droids here. But then you have like a
- 30:53Speaker 2: hollow communicator in a way to communicate, like if you're
- 30:56Speaker 2: not gonna have a droid, but you have everything else. Yeah, that.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Was a little weird. It's there. I feel like there was,
- 31:11Speaker 3: you know, definitely some plot holes, because like the big
- 31:16Speaker 3: thing is that Cardiff finds General Grievous's foot print yep,
- 31:22Speaker 3: and he's like, hmm, I think that's a droid and
- 31:27Speaker 3: then he like talks to the resident or whatever and
- 31:30Speaker 3: she's like, oh, no droids, never, no droids, no.
- 31:32Speaker 2: No, no.
- 31:33Speaker 3: And it does sound weird, right, It sounds weird to
- 31:37Speaker 3: be so against it when you have the technology of
- 31:41Speaker 3: everything else. Right Again, it might be an idea of like, oh,
- 31:47Speaker 3: they're too far away from the core systems and so
- 31:51Speaker 3: like maybe they can only have so much, you know,
- 31:54Speaker 3: things like that, but like maybe it's just the way
- 31:59Speaker 3: that we're it, you know.
- 32:01Speaker 2: Yeah, because it felt like they had kind of taken
- 32:06Speaker 2: maybe the path of the open hand and kind of
- 32:09Speaker 2: ran with it in a slightly different direction. I also thought,
- 32:16Speaker 2: and I think this would have been a cooler plot
- 32:18Speaker 2: to the story. I thought that they were called, like
- 32:22Speaker 2: the Jedi get called because Grievous has a blue lightsaber, oh, because.
- 32:28Speaker 3: They thought, oh it's it's.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Instead of Grievous saying like, hey call them, like I
- 32:35Speaker 2: thought it would have been, oh, like, clean up your
- 32:38Speaker 2: mess because your Jedi came here and is destroying everything.
- 32:42Speaker 3: I thought, I think that would have been a little
- 32:44Speaker 3: bit more of an interesting story, because again you have
- 32:48Speaker 3: this idea of if this is truly early in Grievous's days,
- 32:53Speaker 3: nobody knows who this person is, right yep, So I
- 32:57Speaker 3: think that would have been a really nice play on it.
- 33:01Speaker 3: I did get a little bit of a chuckle for
- 33:03Speaker 3: the fact that this planet does look like Earth a
- 33:07Speaker 3: whole lot. Yeah, I was like, did they do that
- 33:10Speaker 3: on purpose? Like do you could have literally chosen any
- 33:13Speaker 3: colors for this planet? This is literally Star Wars. You
- 33:16Speaker 3: could color anything, and you decide to color it green
- 33:19Speaker 3: and green and blue. They're like the people here like
- 33:29Speaker 3: when when you first see like a settlement, like you
- 33:32Speaker 3: do see nothing but like tense. You don't see any
- 33:36Speaker 3: like industrial buildings.
- 33:38Speaker 2: And I think that's because the dinosaur ran them out.
- 33:41Speaker 2: So they're like they have moved their homes and are
- 33:46Speaker 2: intent because of the dinosaur. I don't know what the
- 33:50Speaker 2: dinosaur is actually called, guys, uh uh.
- 33:53Speaker 3: They don't actually give them a name in the entire book.
- 33:56Speaker 2: So yeah, that's what I was seeing too, Like I
- 33:59Speaker 2: think even yeah, it's just called big creatures at the
- 34:05Speaker 2: back of the book, and Greets is creature in the
- 34:09Speaker 2: drawing such the back of the book. So uh, the
- 34:14Speaker 2: dinosaur like creatures, I think they ran them out of
- 34:19Speaker 2: the village basically.
- 34:23Speaker 3: Makes sense.
- 34:24Speaker 4: Yeah, but yeah, I I I think that like, even
- 34:28Speaker 4: even though we have the critiques, there was like a
- 34:35Speaker 4: good story in there.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Great art. I think that the great the the art
- 34:41Speaker 3: is great. There was even like a small little like
- 34:47Speaker 3: there there's there's humor in this book also. I think
- 34:49Speaker 3: everybody needs a little bit of humor, like with the
- 34:51Speaker 3: Clones at the very end, like please tell me this
- 34:54Speaker 3: thing flies uh.
- 34:56Speaker 2: And Cardiff saying like, you know, they used to call
- 35:01Speaker 2: me arrogant, and then anaking came along.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Yeah exactly, yeah, exactly. So yeah, I think this is
- 35:08Speaker 3: a good story. I really really do. I think it
- 35:13Speaker 3: just kind of stepped on its own toes with being
- 35:16Speaker 3: a little too short. If this was I would say,
- 35:23Speaker 3: twenty more pages make it an even you know, one hundred. Yeah,
- 35:27Speaker 3: I think that you could have easily done, you know,
- 35:31Speaker 3: maybe a small little flashback here or there for Grievous
- 35:35Speaker 3: to kind of get some of those characterizations a little
- 35:38Speaker 3: bit more information on him because he still is an
- 35:41Speaker 3: ominous character, and even more of of Cardiff. You could
- 35:47Speaker 3: have some of those splashbacks be with him as well,
- 35:49Speaker 3: to get a little bit more characterization with him.
- 35:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I think this. I think dark Horse and Marvel
- 35:57Speaker 2: has fallen prey to the shrink flation because I feel
- 36:01Speaker 2: like these graphic novels used to be one hundred and
- 36:05Speaker 2: eight pages and now they're about twenty pages short, which
- 36:10Speaker 2: is about five or which is from five issues to
- 36:13Speaker 2: four issues basically now.
- 36:16Speaker 3: One thing that I never really put into thoughts, and
- 36:22Speaker 3: I don't think it should be that big of a
- 36:24Speaker 3: deal because again, I've been out of the comics game
- 36:27Speaker 3: for about a year now, but I am curious if
- 36:32Speaker 3: the tariffs have anything to do with the size of
- 36:37Speaker 3: comics nowadays. Now, I would say that. But one thing
- 36:44Speaker 3: that I have been seeing a lot of complaints on
- 36:47Speaker 3: is apparently with Marvel books, every other page now is
- 36:54Speaker 3: an AD. And it's okay, it's getting like really really
- 37:00Speaker 3: bad with Marvel. Apparently, like out of like twenty four pages,
- 37:05Speaker 3: you have thirteen of them being ads, so you're only
- 37:10Speaker 3: getting twelve, if not eleven pages of story, which is insane.
- 37:18Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll get to talk about that next week with
- 37:22Speaker 2: a legacy of Darth Vader right of Kylo written.
- 37:26Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, that's true. That's true. But yeah, I
- 37:31Speaker 3: think that is it for the review on Hyperspace Stories, Grievous.
- 37:38Speaker 3: Do you have any last thoughts or anything.
- 37:41Speaker 2: No, I think I'm good. I think it's a decent book.
- 37:46Speaker 2: If you're a Grievous fan, I would say pick this up. Otherwise,
- 37:50Speaker 2: maybe if you're a Clone War fan.
- 37:54Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, if anything, I think this does add
- 37:57Speaker 3: a little bit of course of lore on you know,
- 38:01Speaker 3: more Jedi out there. This gives you know, writers out
- 38:07Speaker 3: there for future stories of future actual novels, like hey,
- 38:12Speaker 3: we have an extra toy in the sandbox, you know,
- 38:16Speaker 3: so you know, I think it would be kind of
- 38:18Speaker 3: fun to see Cardiff in other places, Like I would
- 38:22Speaker 3: like to see, you know, how well does Cardiff and
- 38:25Speaker 3: Ana can play together, you know, if they are both
- 38:29Speaker 3: the arrogant types, the big headed types. I would like
- 38:32Speaker 3: to see how they work together. But I think that
- 38:36Speaker 3: would be cool. But yeah, guys, you know where to
- 38:41Speaker 3: find me anywhere on social media, mostly Instagram. These days,
- 38:46Speaker 3: Abby is teaching me how to be more like a
- 38:50Speaker 3: business owner with Volume Comics Instagram account, so you'll probably
- 38:56Speaker 3: see more of that around. But if you want to
- 39:00Speaker 3: follow me, you can follow me on Instagram at Fanboy
- 39:04Speaker 3: Clay and Katie. What about you, y'all?
