- 0:46Welcome back to the boundary Corner podcast with my partner
- 0:50bronzy glow, I am Curtis Wilson, Brian, how it goes on?
- 0:54This hump day, buddy. Good man.
- 0:57Back on a Wednesday night back at home feeling good.
- 1:01How about you man tired long, Wednesday night long, Wednesday.
- 1:06In general, from work and other activities and run around like a
- 1:10chicken with my head cut off and watching some action.
- 1:15Where Whoa, all the terrible handoff where you mentioned it
- 1:20to me as before we got on. Kaleo Templeton.
- 1:27Yeah, absolutely tearing it up to return.
- 1:32Touchdowns already for him. Why did why exactly did he
- 1:37leave? That's a great question.
- 1:41Seemed like we for whatever reason couldn't find anything to
- 1:44do with them but Central Michigan certainly figured out a
- 1:47bunch to do with him. I mean a lot, a lot of what he
- 1:51does is similar to what What Tay does for us.
- 1:57Truly, he has a probably a little bit more top end in terms
- 2:03of his running but yeah I don't know that one that's still a
- 2:07head scratcher for me. It's crunch or maybe one of
- 2:10those interviews one day, right? Yeah.
- 2:13Yeah. Get him on here.
- 2:14Hey man, yeah. All those over down.
- 2:16Yeah, we can always speculate it least where he went was
- 2:20literally like right down the road from home it.
- 2:24It like, he was from Florida came to Tech and then
- 2:27transferred to like Texas, like, that's true, you know.
- 2:32So yeah, did he? Nope.
- 2:34But they have left 83 wide open multiple times and Central.
- 2:39Michigan goes to the red zone. I'm sure there are some folks
- 2:42out there tonight who are partaking and Max and gambling,
- 2:46some pretty wild lines out there.
- 2:48I know the one I was looking at was like a 20 and a half point
- 2:52spread like Ball State and in Akron baby.
- 2:55Yeah, so we're officially in matching territory for an
- 3:01action. Lines are always crazy too.
- 3:04Well the gate with, that was crazy, and As most of the games,
- 3:09what they're usually coming off a bye.
- 3:12So they're on a 10 day, rest plus 10 days to prep, so, it's
- 3:16always pretty crazy. But, Brian, we have a ton to
- 3:20unload tonight, one. Yes, going to be a packed one,
- 3:24guys. So buckle up.
- 3:26Let's roll. Let's roll.
- 3:28Let's start with this. This is not college football
- 3:30related at all, Run For the First Time, 26 years.
- 3:36Since you are a Middle School, 7th grade, next County.
- 3:44The Atlanta Braves close out the World Series last night.
- 3:48It was a beauty. This was one that had me nervous
- 3:54after dropped in the third game, back in Atlanta.
- 3:59Had to take it back to Houston but Braves come out and front to
- 4:04back. Just dominating a game six to
- 4:07close out the World Series. So I'm happy.
- 4:10It's been a been a long time coming.
- 4:15You know, if you asked me a few years back when we kind of
- 4:18unloaded some of our our veteran Talent, if I thought we'd be
- 4:22doing this this quick, I'd say and if you told me at the
- 4:27beginning of the Season that we were going to lose our Ace and
- 4:32our best all-around player. Yeah.
- 4:34Before the All-Star break and we'd still make a playoff run
- 4:38and win the World Series. I'd say nope but here we are and
- 4:42it's Kind of sweeter because of how on probable the
- 4:47circumstances were very umbrella.
- 4:50Belie mean yard below 500 just three months ago at the
- 4:53beginning of August and went on a tear to end up what like 17 18
- 4:59games above 500, right? Y'all are like it was it was it
- 5:03was a big, big clothes, massive, close 14 games about 500 at 88.
- 5:08All the entire month of August was as lights out of these.
- 5:11You can really get. It's true.
- 5:13Ooh and then you'll make good sound moves getting Duval.
- 5:19You know. So Larry I've got early in the
- 5:22season by the way that home run last night has still not landed.
- 5:27Oh my God, the track are the tracks.
- 5:34Nah, so there's apartment complexes across the street.
- 5:38That was sitting there and watching the game in his
- 5:40apartment complex. Might do me this tonight at
- 5:42baseball. I can't.
- 5:43Just watching the aim of the apartment complex and he kind of
- 5:46looks out and he looks down and he sees the ball that landed
- 5:49outside the stadium. So he walks down and goes and
- 5:53gets it but man was cool things for you, man.
- 5:57I mean, the Brazier good in the 90s and the 2000s.
- 6:00The last few years here to get back there and capture it on
- 6:05probable season. It's awesome.
- 6:08Not a Braves fan. But what a team goes on a run
- 6:10like that, you have to respect it.
- 6:14All right, we're going to turn off the baseball news baseball's
- 6:17over until next spring, which we'll talk about it.
- 6:20Then I'm sure, he'll, I think left is the parade.
- 6:23Only thing left is the parade in Atlanta, and it has not been one
- 6:26there and a long time. All right, Bud, biggest news
- 6:30over the weekend college football wise, Gary Patterson
- 6:33out at TCU, You know, he left on his own terms, they gave him the
- 6:39opportunity to coach out the rest of the season and then
- 6:43ended at the end of season, he didn't want to do that.
- 6:46But, you know, there it is Brian.
- 6:50There's the job. There's the job, I am.
- 6:54I know, we've had people tell us that the TCU boards are running
- 6:59rampant home bringing for Wednesday back.
- 7:05But he's got to do some stuff right now, probably get there.
- 7:10Yeah, he probably has some work to do the rest of the season and
- 7:17it's the big questions going to be is are they ready to give
- 7:23Fuente that rehab. Look thinking that change of
- 7:25scenery being in his Wheelhouse in terms of recruiting and just
- 7:33a general comfort with TCU, whether that's something that is
- 7:41worth the gamble for them. Because obviously anybody that
- 7:45especially in power 5 team, that's taking Wednesday.
- 7:49After this stint at Virginia Tech is going to be taking some
- 7:51degree of risk, right? So that's the question.
- 7:55And obviously, the other thing that we can look at here, is
- 7:58that with Gary Patterson out, you know we've talked about that
- 8:02trickle-down this is more potential trickle down to those
- 8:04G5 positions. Yeah, that could be a likely
- 8:08landing spot for 20 and could soften some of the, the buyout
- 8:11situation we have in that contract.
- 8:14Exactly. And you make the point about
- 8:16them, taking a risk with him, but I don't really think it's a
- 8:20bigger risk, as some people are making it out to be.
- 8:23And some people can say, well, he's been 500 here, the last
- 8:27three seasons. It's true.
- 8:29We're not going to deny that, but we can tell you is this when
- 8:35he is running a certain part of the team, the team plays better.
- 8:41And last year, he went over to help support to defense and that
- 8:44made sense. If your Texas Christian
- 8:49University and you feel like he's the guy what he did 10
- 8:53years ago coordinating the offense under Andy Dalton to an
- 8:56undefeated season number to finish in the polls Rose Bowl
- 9:00win over a great freaking Wisconsin team.
- 9:04Yep I mean essentially I think he's going to walk into some of
- 9:08these jobs and I think the first question they're going to ask
- 9:11him is fill out your staff. Yeah, that that's going to be a
- 9:17big one. That's going to be the big would
- 9:18obviously the probably the biggest thing in terms of, you
- 9:22know, potential for long-term success at Virginia Tech outside
- 9:27of the recruiting angle is the aspect of sticking with staff.
- 9:35That is not achieving at the level that we want them to.
- 9:40Yeah and not not moving on fast enough from those those staff
- 9:44members and then and it, we're looking at a situation where
- 9:49some stuff like that, be the thing that is costing him.
- 9:53His job more so than the in-game decisions more.
- 9:58So than the the recruiting side of things that hasn't lived up
- 10:02to potential. if you're going out there and winning games,
- 10:06some of that matters, less if you're still winning the games
- 10:10and if you're taking care of business week to week, You can
- 10:14Overlook some of those. Some of those blemishes there.
- 10:18Yep. Now he he has made the
- 10:22corrections in the recruiting game will talk about a picked up
- 10:26later. But you mentioned trickle-down
- 10:27effect Brian. Well there's one guy.
- 10:29Likely not going to be trickling down anywhere and Jeff trailer
- 10:33the coach yet. You tssaa got extended.
- 10:35They put a little more money into the football program.
- 10:39And I know a lot of it was reported pretty quickly after
- 10:43Texas Tech came open that they'd reached out to him.
- 10:45So that guy looks like he is probably not moving anywhere.
- 10:49And I've got a probably say I think Jeff Chandler trailers in
- 10:52his mid-50s, that's probably it. Then if he's if he's sticking at
- 10:57UTSA then he's probably not going to go anywhere for the
- 11:01rest of his career. So there's one of those
- 11:04potential Landing spots for for Wednesday that's now gone.
- 11:09Yeah, you know, you get one higher level job that, you know,
- 11:13potentially looks like a somewhat better fit.
- 11:17But then you got as you said a trickle-down role that looks
- 11:20more or less locked up unless I guess somebody Walks up to Jeff
- 11:26trailer and gives him exactly 100% the fit and look and
- 11:30everything that he wants at this point.
- 11:34But you know, that that extension came through.
- 11:37We also had PJ Fleck, get an extension earlier today, seven
- 11:43years, I mean, I know he had a good season two years ago last
- 11:49year, wasn't great. The first couple Seasons.
- 11:50What that's I mean, is that just saying because he's an alumni He
- 11:54is an alumni there, right? Like as an alumni of I think.
- 11:58So every this is what happens when you have a long day.
- 12:03Parts of the brain just shut down.
- 12:09No, no he played for Northern Illinois, so no real not like a
- 12:13HomeTown tie their, so seven years for them, that is a long
- 12:17extension. Obviously, the agents, got the
- 12:21whispers about teams interested in him and maybe coming after
- 12:24him. So they like rowing the boat
- 12:27there. They like role in the boat.
- 12:30This is Virginia. Tech fans will say you just made
- 12:33a good mistake because if he starts stinking Up, you're going
- 12:37to have to determine how much money is, it worth to buy out
- 12:40his contract? Um, yeah, yeah, there is a
- 12:45similar similar boat to what we were in a little bit later in
- 12:50the process in terms of when the extensions coming down the pike.
- 12:54But you know if they're if they're technically not counting
- 13:002020 against him, they're pretty much extending Fuente off the
- 13:05same strength that we extend. It is extending Fleck out the
- 13:09same spot that we extended. That's kind of what they're
- 13:12doing because that was a rebuild job there and he went five and
- 13:15seven and seven. And six is first years then 11
- 13:17and 2 and obviously 6 into this year.
- 13:20And now because chaos is happening Coastal chaos has
- 13:23found its way to the Big Ten West with everybody losing.
- 13:26They have a shot to make the championship game.
- 13:28So, pretty crazy on that, Brian. Let's let's flip to this next,
- 13:34we're talking about other conferences.
- 13:36Cfp poll was released yesterday, and here is our top 10.
- 13:43You guys didn't hear number ten, seven, and one.
- 13:45Notre Dame. Number 98 a.
- 13:48No Wake Forest. Number 82.
- 13:51Surprising went to a lot of people.
- 13:54Nononono Oklahoma at number 8 in front of them number seven
- 13:58Michigan at seven. And one the one that irritated
- 14:02me more than anything Cincinnati at 8 and 0.
- 14:07And number 6 of how stayed at 7 and 1 and the team in front of
- 14:11them at Oregon at 47 and one, and then Michigan state aid.
- 14:15No Alabama, 71 and Georgia rightfully at a no.
- 14:22So So what do we think? I don't like it.
- 14:31Well, which part? I mean of the top-10.
- 14:34What don't you like? I think they got Oklahoma too
- 14:40low. I think they've got Cincinnati
- 14:42too low. I think they've got Bama too
- 14:44high. I think they've got a situation
- 14:48where more than likely if both Oregon and Ohio State went out
- 14:53Ohio State's probably going to jump or again even though they
- 14:55want head-to-head. There's a whole lot of shit.
- 14:58I don't like in there. All right, the most pissed, the
- 15:02one that I'm more pissed off about with this than anything is
- 15:04just you put a one laws Alabama team in and Say, well, our tests
- 15:09is, there's the best in the country that's in the country.
- 15:11Lost the game to at, who was at that point.
- 15:14I'm a meddling, Texas A&M team. They they're, they're somehow
- 15:18ranked in the top 15 at 14 at 6 and to shake my head at that
- 15:23steam. It almost lost.
- 15:24Colorado had a look too impressive.
- 15:27Lost by 10 to Arkansas, couldn't get anything going.
- 15:33I don't like them. If you want to put them in four
- 15:35or five, Cool. That's fine.
- 15:40What I also don't like is the Cincinnati one.
- 15:44They are the only. There are two teams that have
- 15:46beat top 10 teams currently right or three.
- 15:50Yep. Michigan State, organ and
- 15:55Cincinnati ones in a two of the top for one is not I hate that
- 16:03absolutely hate that people can say, well, strength of schedule,
- 16:06the strength of schedule shouldn't to me is the biggest
- 16:10garbage ass thing in college football.
- 16:13These schedules are made years upon years in advance.
- 16:19You can be making the schedule, like, right now.
- 16:21And 2021 Virginia Tech is making the schedule we're putting
- 16:24Alabama on our schedule and one of the 2029, some absurd.
- 16:29What if they're one of the Probably, that's probably the
- 16:32earliest vacancy they have, you put that in now and what if
- 16:36they're trash in 2029, when we beat Alabama down, Tuscaloosa,
- 16:40they're five and seven, they're not good.
- 16:43Well sorry. We don't get to make these
- 16:45decisions every year which is something that to me should be
- 16:50changed. Its just be like we're wiping
- 16:51all these contracts literally. We're going to go in
- 16:53negotiations in the offseason and figure it out.
- 16:58Let me for years out for years out.
- 17:01Should be the biggest window to to and and that's if that's, if
- 17:06you're doing some sort of like, home-and-home arranged or two,
- 17:08for one or something like that. Yeah.
- 17:12All right, let me ask this. John you mentioned to me earlier
- 17:14today. Well actually what we'll hit it
- 17:18later. We're going to hit a little bit
- 17:19later on what you're going to put you like to see done.
- 17:24So but overall, if we look at the top 10, There's going to be
- 17:31a big tenting. Yeah, there is It's simple as
- 17:37that. If organ holds set serve their
- 17:39in, and then it's kind of the whole, if Georgia beats,
- 17:45Alabama, Alabama, is out, George's in and then you're
- 17:47going to probably see Cincinnati in Oklahoma.
- 17:50Battle it out for the last spot. Yep.
- 17:53But the bad thing is that Cincinnati is probably going to
- 17:56need every every team, but in front of them and two teams
- 18:00behind them to lose. And they still might need help.
- 18:04Because of the extra Conference Championship game.
- 18:08Can I just say what I hope happens?
- 18:10Well now they'll have a conference Championship Game,
- 18:12AAC has a conference Championship game, so they will
- 18:14still have a chance. Wow, what?
- 18:17I really hope happens. This is like my hope.
- 18:21My hope is Alabama beach. Georgia, they get, Georgia and
- 18:25Alabama, and they keep Oregon and Ohio State in, and they keep
- 18:27like for unbeaten teams and five, six, seven, eight,
- 18:32because, The outcries will happen, the garbage and everyone
- 18:36will be like you need to get the playoff not in 2026, like in
- 18:402025, because clearly it's biased.
- 18:43Yep. So we're going to hit on this in
- 18:47a little while. We got a little segment coming
- 18:49up here, that Brian's going to hit a little bit more on this on
- 18:53but Brian, let's give kudos out to Trey Turner.
- 18:57Not only the ACC wide receiver of the week.
- 18:59He was also acknowledged by the Senior Bowl as the offensive
- 19:03player of the week. Obviously, you see here that you
- 19:06will expectation Trail, probably be invited and how about just in
- 19:11general we talked about Tray stat lines.
- 19:14I mean, is he finally taken the step that we expected the last
- 19:19few years this year? Well I think will help them
- 19:23especially in the last couple weeks is, he's finally getting
- 19:26the Volume that I think, you know, we expected in terms of
- 19:30targets and the more he's been targeted.
- 19:33The more he's male, he's out there making plays.
- 19:37And I think it's twofold. I think we put a focus on
- 19:42running the ball and that's really trickled over into the
- 19:44passing game because if you can run effectively a lot of things
- 19:47open up for the passing game, and when we are passing the
- 19:52ball, it's been a more concerted effort to get Trey the ball, get
- 19:55trade the ball, where he can get some run after the catch.
- 19:59It hasn't just been the shots down the field.
- 20:02He's been getting the ball in space in the middle of the field
- 20:06a couple times last week. So, it's a little bit of a
- 20:08different different look, and hopefully we continue that and
- 20:12Trey continues to have a another big week here for us.
- 20:18Absolutely, just just Target that.
- 20:20Man, the ball, get him in space and that's something.
- 20:23You know, you've been screaming for a long time and I think
- 20:25probably what he did this week on tape, especially showing the
- 20:29breaking of the tackle, and the rack ability, as much as you
- 20:34want deep threats in the NFL, the NFL is even in that game.
- 20:37Now where it's space. We're going to get you the ball
- 20:41in space. You must be able to break
- 20:43tackles. You must be able to have change
- 20:45of Direction. So the last few weeks it's Billy
- 20:49really been on display for him to hopefully move his that's
- 20:52what he's excelled at. I mean his career I mean you
- 20:55look at what he's done with jet sweeps, being able to break, a
- 20:58tackle line of scrimmage, get a feel good Vision, break, some of
- 21:01those for long gains. You still good at going up and
- 21:05getting the ball but he's so Oh, good with the ball after the
- 21:08catch. And it's in, it's not just his
- 21:11speed, but he just has a knack for kind of seeing the right
- 21:15angles, which is helped him break tackles, which has helped
- 21:18him, find find Lanes. So, again, kudos to him.
- 21:22Big shout-out to Trey, Turner big week.
- 21:24Hopefully, we'll see another one.
- 21:28Abso-freakin'-lutely. All right.
- 21:32Brian. Let's go hit some notes here
- 21:33tomorrow. Connor got dinged a little bit
- 21:38and they were asked about it on Monday and he was official that
- 21:43he practiced on Monday but let's be honest.
- 21:47Mike Hawkins look good on say yeah yeah yeah I was actually I
- 21:56was I was pleasantly. Prized with how Hawkins came in
- 22:01and played. It was, I didn't really see much
- 22:04of a drop-off, which was probably not something I
- 22:08expected necessarily but it turned out to be a good thing.
- 22:12He came in there, made some big plays, you know, we held them
- 22:16pretty much in check for a lot of the lot of the time he was
- 22:20out there and I think the biggest thing is that there were
- 22:23not any glaring issues where you said, all right, we got
- 22:27somebody. And therefore for tamari went
- 22:32pretty smooth. But, you know, good.
- 22:35Good to have tomorrow back on the field, practicing Monday.
- 22:38So that's a good sign. I know we didn't get any updates
- 22:42on Mario or Luke so we'll see if if they are available going into
- 22:52into Friday. Yeah, against me.
- 22:55No, I have nothing. No comment, nothing.
- 22:59Nothing, like, come on. Coach.
- 23:01Like give us something. You kind of Wonder those two
- 23:08that they're both very important Kendricks on obviously, the
- 23:15obviously with the defensive line rotation.
- 23:17And Luke obviously holding down the left side.
- 23:20Who do you think more important? Who do you want back in there?
- 23:26I would say Mario. I think the the line held up
- 23:30fairly well in Luke's, absence. I think just depth-wise by me.
- 23:35Both areas are concerned depth wise, but as much as we rotate
- 23:40and need to rotate, I'd rather have more of that depth on
- 23:43defense. Got you.
- 23:46All right Brian, let's roll on here.
- 23:49This was done. Last this commitment for read
- 23:52Pulliam, the three-star out of Life Christian Academy here in
- 23:56the RBA down in Colonial, Heights, made after we record
- 24:00it. And with sort of the
- 24:02adjustments, we had to make to our episode recap for Georgia
- 24:06Tech. We didn't get it in here, but
- 24:07we're getting a shoutout now. 63, 220 pounds.
- 24:12He's listed as a wide receiver. I do not see him.
- 24:15Ever taken a snap at wide receiver for the Virginia Tech
- 24:18Hokies as he was recruited by Ryan Smith and Jack Tyler.
- 24:23What do you think he's three-star?
- 24:25Got ready to like an 84. So, solid rating for a guy who
- 24:29had no rating Just a few weeks ago.
- 24:35Yeah, I mean that's going to be an interesting one.
- 24:37It looks like he could be a, we talked about Hawkins, we talked
- 24:43about Jamari, this, this could be our next nickel.
- 24:48If you think about the responsibilities there in the
- 24:50guys that were there recruited him, that seems to fit a little
- 24:53bit, right? So we'll see, he could end up
- 24:58giving us some wide receiver death, but I look for him to
- 25:01play that nickel position. As in the long run.
- 25:07Absolutely. I don't know, 63 220, there's a
- 25:11lot you could do with him. I think that's one of those guys
- 25:15that probably classify as Moore's an athlete than a
- 25:17specific position. So see where he fits best, put
- 25:22in there, let him run early. So again but again it's another
- 25:28Virginia pick up, its another 80 for pick up.
- 25:31Again, we talked about the refocus of Virginia for this
- 25:34class and it continues to pay dividends.
- 25:37I mean, you know, Brian, I think Think looking just the other
- 25:40day. We're still holding strong at 19
- 25:43in the country, and a lot of the big dogs are kind of ahead of
- 25:48us. So if anything, we're not going
- 25:51to move to too much because the fluctuation probably going to
- 25:54come after 1850 probably between 15 and 1 tween.
- 25:58Now and signing day. Yeah, we might back out some
- 26:02like just outside the top 25. But I don't see us going much
- 26:05outside of that and probably could still stick in the 25, you
- 26:12know, this, and that's overall, you know what?
- 26:15You expect every year? Yeah, from the Hokies top 25
- 26:19class, and we need to start seeing some more development.
- 26:24We need to start seeing how the classes are stacked together in
- 26:30a more logical fashion to give this roster more depth and the
- 26:36things that it needs. But if you're looking at just a
- 26:40one-off situation here, twenty twenty twenty two is probably as
- 26:45good as we've seen in a few years.
- 26:48And it looks to be a pretty well-balanced class.
- 26:52All things considered? Yep.
- 26:54It's going to be really interesting to see, giving us
- 26:56just about three and a half months.
- 27:01I'm doing it right. November December, January,
- 27:03February at, three and a half months.
- 27:05You'll get your recruiting recap episode.
- 27:09Was we don't break it up into two segments.
- 27:12We talked a little bit about the guys, but then Brown, we get
- 27:14more of a break, go into more of a breakdown of each guy, once
- 27:17February rolls around because somebody's that's usually RS.
- 27:20Use our official kickoff to the, to the new season.
- 27:23Exactly. All righty.
- 27:26Ryan yesterday here in the state of Virginia, we had elections
- 27:31for death, major State offices. The governor lieutenant
- 27:34governor, and the attorney, general.
- 27:37And I'm sitting here and I'm stealing something from From my
- 27:40buddy, Wes McElroy who a lot of times on his election days, he
- 27:44will do if you were president of sports.
- 27:46Well, that's too broad. What I wanted to do.
- 27:51What I wanted to do. Good, sir was bronzy glow.
- 27:54You ought to governor of college football.
- 27:58What is the thing? You would change?
- 28:02All right, so you know how I feel about the playoff and
- 28:06wanting a 12 team playoff. Right?
- 28:09So this is this is going to be a twofer.
- 28:12Okay. Give me my 12 team playoff and
- 28:16outside of the automatic bids that we have already discussed
- 28:21previously on this, bring back the BCS to fill out the out at
- 28:25large all mr. Controversy here, why?
- 28:31So why do you want the BCS versus just a committee?
- 28:35So when we look at the college football, playoff top 10, N and
- 28:40just the rankings in general, what I'm seeing is AD emphasis
- 28:46of the actual games being played on the field and a focus and
- 28:51emphasis on eye test and brand. Do you have anything present to
- 28:59me about this? I mean see Alabama.
- 29:04See the lower ranking of Cincinnati relative to its
- 29:09competition. Cincinnati, if you say what you
- 29:12will about their whole strength of schedule, Cincinnati has
- 29:14better wins in Alabama right now. .
- 29:19Full fucking stop. So I mean don't give me this.
- 29:22Well, who are they going to play?
- 29:24Yeah, well well this is the this is the college ranking for this
- 29:28fucking week. Not the end of the season.
- 29:31Alabama is not the second best team based on their resume.
- 29:39Yeah, I agree with that, I agree with that wholeheartedly but
- 29:44like what's the difference? I mean, what's the BCS saying?
- 29:49I mean, you're stomping on it, but what's the BCS saying?
- 29:53Like nursing different. Yes, yes.
- 29:55Oh there's a simulated BCS versus college football.
- 29:58Playoff the big thing is you've got George is still one in both.
- 30:05Those two is senses to is Cincinnati, all he is Oklahoma.
- 30:11So Cincinnati's up four points, Oklahoma is up 650k 5.
- 30:18Then you got bamboo It for Michigan State.
- 30:20I mean the the qualms I have in this top five.
- 30:25So you got banned with the Michigan State and Ohio State.
- 30:27The only thing I do different in that one is that I swap Oklahoma
- 30:30and Michigan State and then call it a fucking day.
- 30:33Everything else is exactly as I would line it up, okay?
- 30:37So what you're saying is what you want to move to is basically
- 30:42what a lot of people stressed about hate about the BCS.
- 30:45They were like, well it's just a computer.
- 30:49But it wasn't, it was the Harris poll, which is a human Pole.
- 30:54And it was computers. That would you would you still
- 30:57have some sort of committee with a voice like would you have the
- 31:01Harris? Poll is what we're going to
- 31:02have, then we're going to have the computer rankings and
- 31:06they're going to have essentially a four-layer
- 31:09approach to where everybody gets 25%.
- 31:12Say no. I think I think I would just go
- 31:19computer and Harris and I tell You why?
- 31:24Because yeah, I think what we're seeing you.
- 31:28Look at March Madness. The reason that, that type of
- 31:33committee works is because They can still put teams in there
- 31:40that they feel deserve and there can be upsets and the upsets can
- 31:44matter, but there's still enough Brand Power where that doesn't
- 31:48potentially water down the marketing angle, for the
- 31:53Network's, the media, the in the NCAA as a whole.
- 31:58So they're not looking at it from a brand person, whether its
- 32:02inherent, or or purposeful would use there's some A bias there
- 32:07with the brands and the narrower you get with that, the more
- 32:11problematic, it becomes with, you know, 68, it doesn't become
- 32:16as much of a factor eventually, they're going to get enough
- 32:19cream. That makes it to the final four
- 32:21to sweeten the pot. Yeah.
- 32:23Because usually in the NCAA, your Kansas duke-carolina UCLA
- 32:30released on get one big name and about it into at least second
- 32:34tier, if not higher tier Making it to the final four.
- 32:38So you basically what you're saying the NCAA tournament is
- 32:41because of the way it's set up. There's going to be a bunch of
- 32:43teams that are in that a name-brand regardless, how
- 32:47football there's a lot of name brands, but it's more
- 32:51attractive. When you're talking about for
- 32:54teens to immediately attract towards the most known brand in
- 32:59the most, you know, the most regarding conference, you also
- 33:03only have three event games for the college for All playoff,
- 33:07whereas you have a lot of event games in the NCAA tournament,
- 33:11was the 32 16800? Why?
- 33:16It's why those first two days are awesome.
- 33:18Exactly. So buddy, you are now the
- 33:26governor of college football. What you got for me?
- 33:31Well, this Governor say is mine's not as deep as yours
- 33:34mines on the most simplistic fixes, that would a help.
- 33:39The marketing, the college football, The Branding and help
- 33:42the fans. Monday night ain't the place for
- 33:46the title game. I'd love to see it on a Saturday
- 33:50night, but it'll always overlap with the NFL playoffs that will
- 33:54never happen but normally that week leading up to is our set of
- 34:00wild card games. Thursday night, 8:00, 8:05 kick,
- 34:06not 835, not 840 killing us here 8:00. 805 kick Thursday night.
- 34:14Okay. Okay.
- 34:16You know, you think about The title games in general.
- 34:20And you know the amount of people that are having usually
- 34:25it's line between week 17 or the first weekend of wild card.
- 34:29So you know, the biggest thing with it is you want to draw more
- 34:35eyes. A lot of people are football,
- 34:37outcome Monday, whether they like college football or not, if
- 34:41you watched all the Wild Card stuff or the week 17 and FL
- 34:45stuff. you know, it's one of those things where I just feel
- 34:52like they're missing out on a boatload.
- 34:55I do say this. A boatload of people.
- 35:00You know, usually they're averaging somewhere between 20
- 35:03and 25 million and that's a lot of people don't get me wrong.
- 35:06Yeah. But if you put it on Thursday
- 35:09night in a, you'd have just just hear me out here for whoever
- 35:13network has it. So you're going to come in
- 35:15Monday and it's going to be NFL whatever week it is, right and
- 35:20FL Paul. Yep.
- 35:22That's when they're trying to get the game ready.
- 35:25So you don't have any build-up time.
- 35:27So you roll in Monday, NFL talk, cool Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 35:31Thursday. There's going to be a mix,
- 35:34right? There's going to be a mix and
- 35:38primarily Wednesday, Thursday is your leading into that game.
- 35:41The amount of Buzz that is going to be generating board.
- 35:45And then I'm one of these. I think if you could move to
- 35:48Thursday, I think probably they would average six to eight
- 35:52million more. They'd be in the 30 to 40
- 35:55million range versus the 2220 and for us as fans, It would
- 36:02make it a lot easier to stay up on a Thursday night or go out to
- 36:08a bar or have your buddies over. It's like tomorrow Friday and
- 36:13it's an early Friday so it might be the first day of the new year
- 36:16right there. There you go.
- 36:19So there you go make those governors of college football,
- 36:22we will change everything for the better trust us.
- 36:26Trust us, Brian wants to bring back the BCS to get rid of any
- 36:29bias. I just want to Thursday night.
- 36:31anybody's, but as much bias as possible, I want a Thursday
- 36:35night title game so I don't if I drink too many of these I only
- 36:40can it's only one day to feel bad about it.
- 36:43It's true. And, you know, when you think
- 36:45about it, it's awkward taking the Tuesday after going back on
- 36:49a Monday, it's perfectly fine. Dropping a Friday in there and
- 36:53just roll it into a long weekend.
- 36:55Where were you yesterday? That's hung over?
- 36:58Yep. All right guys, before we get
- 37:01into knowing the enemy Boston College, we are going to take a
- 37:05quick pause for a message from our regional partners.

- 37:32Now back to the episode All right guys, time for Know The
- 37:37Enemy. We're going to start with the
- 37:38offense this week of the Boston College Eagles Who currently sit
- 37:43at or and for coming in with a four-game losing streak offense.
- 37:47You look at the numbers are a little tricky because it's
- 37:50almost like the first four in the last four, you know.
- 37:53Look at all eight games, they're averaging, right?
- 37:56At 26 points a game. Not terrible close to 12 the
- 38:00pack, but if you look deeper the last four games, they're
- 38:03averaging. 10:00. They're averaging 10 points a
- 38:08game. The last four game, which is
- 38:10just absolutely Dreadful similar to that third down conversion.
- 38:16You look, they're about middle of the pack little bit higher
- 38:20the last four games 19 for 64. That is right at 30, 29 percent,
- 38:31it's not good at all. So clearly the loss of your
- 38:34Kovac is hurting them. And, you know, look, they're
- 38:39still a dangerous team and that if I work, will start with first
- 38:42bronze, a flowers, the junior out of Fort Lauderdale Florida
- 38:46Three Star when he came out 510, 177 pounds, 35 receptions 511
- 38:53yards, 14 46. Option two touchdowns.
- 38:58Now, this is something I just noticed.
- 39:01Did you know Brian his freshman year?
- 39:06Zay flowers got almost 200 rushing yards, so you did know
- 39:13that. So I mean, I don't expect to see
- 39:15him in the backfield or anything, but what is, what is
- 39:19he bringing to the table? Some guy we've seen multiple
- 39:22years now from DC, he brings a little bit of everything and
- 39:26they don't really use him in the in the backfield or on like jet
- 39:29sweeps or anything like that as they did a couple of years back
- 39:32but what they do use them as is they really light him up all
- 39:35over the Field, full route, tree it is that as compliment.
- 39:39He can re can run all the routes and do really everything that
- 39:42this offense asked of him. He's very quick.
- 39:47And so he can beat you deep, but they also run them on a lot of
- 39:50those stick move around, as well, to get underneath the DB's
- 39:53to keep the ball, matriculating down the field and they've had
- 39:57to do a lot more of that without jirka Vic in the game because
- 40:03they are not as good at pressing the ball down the field since
- 40:08he's been down. So he's been working a lot more
- 40:11underneath the DBS than taking the top off in recent weeks.
- 40:17Yeah, always been a good player, you know, for three years in.
- 40:22He's someone that to me, it's to me, it's germane Waller's job to
- 40:27just go Shadow him. In a sense like go out there
- 40:32he's their best. They don't offer much else
- 40:35besides him in the passing game from a wide receiver standpoint
- 40:40so you know just to me hold him between 50 and 75 yards.
- 40:47It's going to make this game. A hell of a lot easier.
- 40:50Yeah absolutely. If you can keep him under that
- 40:5380-yard threshold then I feel pretty good about the overall
- 40:57matchup. Absolutely.
- 41:00Fibrin. Not gonna talk about any other
- 41:02wide receivers. But somehow, Boston College
- 41:05keeps finding six-foot-six 250-pound tight ends.
- 41:09They found another one from the transfer portal from Jackson
- 41:13State in trade. Barry was a two-star when he
- 41:16came out a few years ago again, 66 250 pounds 18, receptions,
- 41:24288 yards and 3 TDS Jacksonville State last year when they played
- 41:3033 reception 534 yards in just a touchdown so clearly he does
- 41:34have an offensive game that can be beneficial to a team.
- 41:39What are you seeing from him on tape with his first year up in
- 41:42division 1 football. Yeah.
- 41:45I mean, he's a little bit more of a Joker Style tight in than
- 41:49that prototypical tight in that. We've seen Boston College
- 41:55implemented, recent years. And they've had some success
- 41:58with that type of tight end. This is, this is guys a little
- 42:01bit different, he's adequate, but he's not an overly
- 42:04impressive blocker. So he's not going to go out
- 42:07there and have a great impact in the running game but he's also
- 42:11not a liability either. He's above average after the
- 42:17catch for a tight end but you know, where he really excels is
- 42:23on those. I just stick movers like curls,
- 42:27but also on seams and crossers. That's where he really makes his
- 42:31bread and butter because he does a good job of getting the ball
- 42:33to get it up field. He had a play against Colgate
- 42:36early in the season, where he hurtled a DB and then ran into
- 42:41the end zone. So he's got some athleticism,
- 42:44can make some plays. It's a guy.
- 42:46You got to get to the ground once he gets the catch, all
- 42:49right. If we see him, come on in line,
- 42:53you're saying he's not a liability, but if he's coming in
- 42:55on the inline, is it something like a 60/40 65/35 split the
- 43:00okay, they're passing. He's on the inline.
- 43:03Don't let it fool you. They'll mix it up here.
- 43:07I mean, just because he's in line, doesn't mean it's not,
- 43:10it's not coming at you, okay? But like I said, he's, it's not
- 43:14that he's a liability, it's just that, You know, he's not going
- 43:18to go out there and give you a B+ grade in his in his run
- 43:23blocking. Got you makes sense?
- 43:27All right, Brian, let's turn it over now to the running back.
- 43:30Pat girl was a third five-foot-eight 214 pounds.
- 43:36What do they always call that the rolling bowling ball of
- 43:39butcher rolling? The butcher knives 582, and
- 43:42that's crazy. Sighs 690 yards, so far.
- 43:46Or this year, everything about six yards of carry with five
- 43:51touchdowns. Now, the way to kind of look
- 43:54it's almost go look at, you know, your macro and you see
- 43:57those numbers and think and this guy's on pays to easily rush for
- 44:00over 1,000 yards. Probably going to have seven to
- 44:04eight touchdowns but when you go micro on it, he's really had two
- 44:08big games and that was the game against UMass and the game
- 44:11events Mizzou where he went, both over 150 yards.
- 44:17But the one thing I kind of see impressive with him, he's only
- 44:19been under four yards, a carry in one game that was the temple
- 44:23game. He was a 3.7.
- 44:26So even on the games where he's not getting 100, he still over
- 44:30four yards, a carry most of them a little bit over four and a
- 44:33half. He was a half three star when he
- 44:36came out of pharaohs Hills PA. So what are we seeing with him?
- 44:40Because if I look at their offense, It's a lot predicated
- 44:44on what he does. Yeah, I mean, stop me if you've
- 44:49heard this one before a Boston College running back that runs
- 44:52hard and physical every running back they've ever had.
- 44:58And this was no different. He's not very Fleet of foot.
- 45:02I mean, he's got, he's got some speed but he's not running away
- 45:06from the fastest defenders on the field.
- 45:09But he's got some sneaky wiggle and he's best Tween, the
- 45:13tackles, he does lose some Effectiveness when plays get
- 45:17strung outside, just because he's not necessarily outrunning,
- 45:21safe, teaser, or other dbe's to the edge, but when he hits
- 45:25between the tackles gets to the second level, he can make guys
- 45:28miss in space, and not a home run hitter, but a guy that's
- 45:33going to wear you down as the game goes along.
- 45:35So that's somebody that early in the in the game.
- 45:39We need to keep behind the sticks on first down.
- 45:42Don't let him get into a rhythm. Because that's going to, you
- 45:45know, come back to bite us later in the game here on a bench and
- 45:49not for your foot. Also stolen hand, I think he has
- 45:52one reception all year. So definitely North the South
- 45:57Runner there. But again, there he has
- 46:02potential to have a big Breakout game.
- 46:05I know, UMass and Mizzou, you know, they are what they are but
- 46:10it's always you see, you got do that.
- 46:11It's always I think we're going to Call to Khalil Herbert
- 46:14effect. You see a guy have a game like
- 46:16that? It's in there and how we play
- 46:18against him is essentially what's going to happen.
- 46:22Now? Also, Brian how the offensive
- 46:26line performs is probably going to be a big thing for Pat and to
- 46:30get his numbers. Give me some insight.
- 46:33What type of offensive line are we looking at here today?
- 46:36It's a very experienced line, they get a good push and they're
- 46:40very physical at the point of attack when you think of a
- 46:42Boston, It's offensive line. This is very much in that mold
- 46:47and they really kind of gelled a little bit this season to
- 46:53probably to be a little bit better than I think we
- 46:54anticipated overall. They are a little bit hamstrung
- 46:59in the fact that not being able to press the ball downfield in
- 47:04the last few weeks has started to show in in their overall
- 47:09output numbers. But it's still an overall, a
- 47:12very Very good offensive line, bread and butter for this
- 47:16offensive line is power encounter.
- 47:20They do a really good job pulling getting up in the in the
- 47:23hole and leading up for the running back.
- 47:26So look for that. Those two plays is kind of being
- 47:28their bread and butter throughout the day as far as
- 47:32past Pro definitely above average, they do a good job,
- 47:37especially on the interior. Not letting pressure get into
- 47:41the face of the quarterback but there they are.
- 47:43Little suspect at the tackle position.
- 47:46Yeah. Talking about them being passed
- 47:49Pro, you know looks about average.
- 47:51It's about right there. Giving up about two point.
- 47:53Three sacks per game, which is about 78 time for 78th with
- 47:57numerous team. So somewhere, right down there
- 48:00and run in the middle, here's kind of a shocker because when
- 48:04we talk about Garland, you hear 690 yards in eight games, you
- 48:08probably would expect this number to be higher.
- 48:10They are only averaging 150 to rushing.
- 48:13Yards per game. And again, I think is what you
- 48:16just mentioned there. Is that through the Deep threat
- 48:19of down, field is going away more and more safety's coming up
- 48:24to the line. It's like he can't get it down
- 48:26there. So why are we going to give them
- 48:30more opportunity to do what they can do best now, Brian, this is
- 48:34the one that shocked me and maybe you can explain, maybe
- 48:36it's the type of offense, they offensive line scheme, they have
- 48:40They are 100 and giving up tackles for loss that almost 6
- 48:44again. You think about it?
- 48:48That usually going to be 1, right?
- 48:49At 1 / Drive usually teams average between seven and eight
- 48:54drives a game. So right at 1 it's just just
- 48:58it's just making mistakes. Or is this something based the
- 49:01offensive line in their scheme? It's a little of both probably
- 49:07again I haven't watched all of their films so I was just basing
- 49:10it on the the two games that I'd look at, but just looking at.
- 49:15What they're doing because their bread and butter is a power is
- 49:18the counter when you got lime and moving across the formation.
- 49:22Sometimes that has a propensity to create negative plays because
- 49:26there is voids that have to be accounted for where the, where
- 49:30the lyman's pulling on the backside, okay?
- 49:33And sometimes that can create penetration, sometimes they can
- 49:36get the running back off, they're off their Mark there and
- 49:39create those. Those - plays where is with a
- 49:42Zone. Unless there's something
- 49:44specifically. That the defense brings in terms
- 49:47of a run blitz or something like that.
- 49:48Often times you don't get that crazy penetration into the
- 49:52backfield that you get in those powers and counters that BC
- 49:57likes to run. Yeah, absolutely.
- 50:00Alright Braun. We're going to get into the
- 50:02quarterback room next and I didn't read this.
- 50:05I'm going to you because you mentioned it just beforehand.
- 50:08What were you reading about field?
- 50:09Your kovich I've seen some Rumblings on the twittersphere
- 50:16that Phil might be a go for Friday, nothing, confirmed
- 50:23nothing from a source that I would say is unimpeachable but
- 50:29enough Whispers, where it's something to look look for.
- 50:32Can I say something? Yeah, please let him be the
- 50:35starter short week in preparation.
- 50:38Coming back off my hand injury. Where you you know, if the hand
- 50:42injury Bryant Even if it's even if he's pulled go throwing,
- 50:49they're still not going to be 100%, right?
- 50:52Because, whatever, he had wrong with his probably affecting his
- 50:54grip in some way. So, yeah.
- 50:56Starting BC, please start them. They really have a decision to
- 51:00make. I know we're about to talk about
- 51:01the quarterbacks here, and we're actually going to talk about 3/4
- 51:04x now that we're looking at it. But yeah, yeah, there's really
- 51:09negatives to starting all three. I mean, grace, L can't can't
- 51:13push the ball down field. Old Moorhead is a freshman
- 51:17that's probably going to be prone to make mistakes.
- 51:20Yeah. You don't know how healthy or,
- 51:23you know, whether he's able to knock the rust off quick enough
- 51:25if you go with dr. Kovac.
- 51:27So there are negatives, to starting any of these three
- 51:31quarterbacks, but I'm going to start with grow cell here in
- 51:34terms of the breakdown. He's, you know, senior Redshirt
- 51:40senior the fact that he wasn't starting as a redshirt senior
- 51:43probably tells you He's probably not the first guy, they wanted
- 51:45out there, you know, he's good at throwing the underneath
- 51:49stuff. Especially kind of those timing
- 51:52routes tells you he's been in the system for a while.
- 51:56He knows what he's doing but he's not, he's just not great at
- 52:00stretching the field and creating explosive plays.
- 52:03The, the Deep balls don't have a lot of touch on them.
- 52:07They're often overthrown or not, not on target.
- 52:12Doesn't give the receiver a chance to really make The play
- 52:16and while he will run both by Design and scramble.
- 52:21It's not really what what his game is about.
- 52:24It's not really, it's either an asset or a liability, but it's
- 52:28just kind of something that that happens to keep the offense.
- 52:31Matriculating the ball down, feel, it's not something that's
- 52:33really that. They're scheming to really hurt
- 52:39the defense. It's more to kind of just keep
- 52:41things off balance. All right.
- 52:45And you know yourselves, just your typical for the typical
- 52:49six-foot-one 220-pound to the preferred walk-on.
- 52:52Not even a scholarship play. When you got there.
- 52:55You know, about plus years ago, 1191 yards under 60% at 57%,
- 53:01first completion, percentage six, touchdown seven
- 53:04interceptions. So obviously he is not lighting
- 53:07the world on fire and obviously after the shine wore off for a
- 53:11couple games. And after Djokovic went out the
- 53:16flaws and the ugliness is starting to show and it showed
- 53:20to a point during the Syracuse game that you already mentioned.
- 53:22They brought in and more hibs six-foot-six 225 M quarterback
- 53:26out Alexandria Virginia 3 star and I mean, he didn't have a
- 53:31great anyone like 6:15. So clearly he does not look
- 53:37ready. Do you agree with that?
- 53:37Brian. He doesn't look ready and it's
- 53:41and it's more of the game is still a little fast for him.
- 53:47So when I was looking at the tape, he has a much better armed
- 53:50and deep ball than grow cell and it's not even close.
- 53:54But he is slower with the timing and processing in the offense.
- 54:00He misses a lot when he feels pressure.
- 54:02Especially when the pressures in his face.
- 54:05He's a similar type of athlete to gracel, and he doesn't mind
- 54:10taking off, but that's not something that's part of his
- 54:12game. He did get banged up against
- 54:15Syracuse, so he was out of that game for a while, but when he
- 54:21was in there again, it, it looked good.
- 54:24Good when he had time when it was a quick, read his first read
- 54:29was there if he had to kind of look at the whole field and
- 54:34process and everything else that's when it became
- 54:38problematic for him. So I think he's just the game is
- 54:41still too fast for him at this point, and I don't know if they
- 54:45will feel comfortable going with him for four quarters.
- 54:49Well, thank you. We see him in this game, it's
- 54:51going to be very similar to how Syracuse saw him.
- 54:54All right. Well, it makes sense though.
- 54:55He came from Episcopal, you know, a private, you know,
- 54:59Christian School up in Nova and like you know they're playing
- 55:04teams like Collegiate not enough on Collegiate but it's lower
- 55:07level. The best team they played is the
- 55:10PowerHouse to math of this year and they got steamroll.
- 55:14So you know if you're telling me a guys coming from a league
- 55:19where it's elite competition, He could probably be more ready but
- 55:23he's coming from a lower level and you're trying to get him
- 55:25there he's built he's got the arm he's a year or two away from
- 55:29doing anything for them. So I'm almost to this bring
- 55:34whoever they want to start on a quarterback because none of them
- 55:38scare me but defensive illest Phil scares me.
- 55:43But I mean we don't know how much rust feels going to have
- 55:46and if he's still going to be healthy enough to get it done.
- 55:49I mean Phil healthy is Dangerous Prime, big been, truly the Phil
- 55:55Phil right now. I don't know what to expect.
- 55:58Well either. Whatever you want to say there
- 56:01were there is going to be some sort of rust there.
- 56:03If there's not some sort of, you know, issue with again, injury
- 56:08to the hand, getting the ball hits.
- 56:09How quick can he knock the rust off and is that hand going to
- 56:13affect how he plays the game now - its current state.
- 56:17Now, they could just say screw it, we need to get Bowl
- 56:20eligible. He's we Him on the field to win
- 56:23one of these last two of these last four games.
- 56:25So why not roll them out there now and try to knock it off and
- 56:29get a full week practice. So either way, I feel good.
- 56:32Now defensively, they're actually a pretty good defense.
- 56:37Brian 31st in the country in scoring given up, right at 21, a
- 56:41game, a top-15 third down, stop team, right at 30% is what folks
- 56:48are converting off of them. Good.
- 56:51Red Zone, team top 30 there, they've given up in 23 trips, 17
- 57:00scores 12, touchdowns five, five field goals, eight rushing for
- 57:06passing. And to me the name that caught
- 57:11my eye looking up and down was a guy.
- 57:13By the name of Jane would be six foot 220-pound defensive back
- 57:17out of one of the best high schools in the country.
- 57:19Saint John Bosco out in for Nia originally committed to FSU as a
- 57:24four-star transferred into BC, top 10 safety.
- 57:28When he came out top 60 player when he came out.
- 57:32So, a lot of the check marks are there and obviously would have
- 57:35the Florida state. The last few years with all the
- 57:36turnover, he looked elsewhere and he lighting up the stat
- 57:41sheet. Fifty six tackles two picks for
- 57:44pass, deflections of forced fumble.
- 57:46That was returned for a touchdown.
- 57:49I think you could be a problem. Yeah he pops off on tape.
- 57:53It's not even a joke. He plays that strong, safety
- 57:57boundary, safety Rover, whatever you want to call it in that.
- 58:00That 425 pressure D that BC deploys.
- 58:05He's the primary place I'd spill area Defender.
- 58:08He does a really good job of coming up and making stops in
- 58:12the Run game. He will occasionally get
- 58:14influenced but it's not something that's an epidemic.
- 58:19And he's really good in defending the past.
- 58:22I'd say above average in when he when he's matched up in man and
- 58:28really damn good when he's playing the zone.
- 58:34This is something, I'll also ask and it's not about going to pay
- 58:36daily. This guy went to the portal.
- 58:42Wow, we look at him. I mean, that's, that's shake my
- 58:48head at it because a guy like him, where we need some safety
- 58:51depth, would immediately help us out.
- 58:54And I don't know. Brian.
- 58:58Maybe I'm just, you know, maybe I'm just tickled, because he
- 59:04went in the portal after 2020. We were in need of 14, 20 21.
- 59:09That was long before hundred situation.
- 59:12Yeah. And I mean going out there and
- 59:14getting to would to hurt I mean no bring it in today and bring
- 59:18it in a player like would be. I mean that would have been you
- 59:22know, that would have made the safety core.
- 59:25Probably close to equal to what the the quarterback unit is that
- 59:29so, you know, that that would have been a big help no doubt
- 59:35and You know that that's somewhat of a knock.
- 59:39I don't know if that's just an evaluation.
- 59:40I know we had an inside track on knowing the type of player that
- 59:45tay was when for when Darryl Tapp is on the staff.
- 59:49So I'm sure that probably had some role there.
- 59:51But, you know, I wouldn't have had a problem bringing into two
- 59:54safeties. Even though I mean, tase a
- 59:57tweener, he could have played free and strong would be, is a
- 1:00:02prototypical, strong safety. Absolutely.
- 1:00:05Alright, next guy. Brian, let's talk about is their
- 1:00:08nickel corner or nickel backer Josh DeBary, 511, 176 pounds,
- 1:00:13thirty, eight, tackles for loss, to picks also forced fumble on
- 1:00:18his end Three Star. When he came out, what are you
- 1:00:21seeing from Josh? Du Barry?
- 1:00:26I mean, it's a nickel. It's that kind of nickel
- 1:00:29whipping that 425 he plays a very similar to Connor early
- 1:00:34rundown responsibilities they Some a good amount.
- 1:00:38He's got backs a contain. He'll match up man-to-man on
- 1:00:42slot receivers the whole gamut there.
- 1:00:45He's probably their most balanced run to pass player on
- 1:00:48the field. He does really good job both
- 1:00:51against the run and the past great tackler, pretty big hitter
- 1:00:57but also has the athletic tools to hang with some of those good
- 1:01:02slot receivers as well. Yeah.
- 1:01:05So a lot like Connor but built more like a corner than more
- 1:01:09like a linebacker. Probably probably a little
- 1:01:11little more of a corner lean there and better in coverage
- 1:01:16overall than Connor is. Um, how much will do?
- 1:01:22They will Personnel. Groupings, affect him getting on
- 1:01:27the field. Like if we stay in, you know,
- 1:01:30two tight end sets a lot with, we've been doing a ton Is he
- 1:01:34likely to be coming off the field or is he always there
- 1:01:37regardless? He's almost exclusively on the
- 1:01:40field and he doesn't really have a backup.
- 1:01:42He is the is there nickel? Okay.
- 1:01:45So unless unless he is hurt he's probably not coming off the
- 1:01:51field. Alright good deal on that.
- 1:01:55Alright, next guy to look at Brian the true linebacker cam
- 1:01:59Arnold 612 28 34 Tsar who was at a wedding?
- 1:02:04Bloomfield Michigan, thirty six tackles one sec, three tackles
- 1:02:08for loss in a forced. Fumble Mike Sam will.
- 1:02:12Where are we going to see? Number 27 lined up, he's their
- 1:02:16strong backer. He's saying he's a volume
- 1:02:20tackler. He's also the primary Blitzer if
- 1:02:24they're bringing an extra Defender five main pressure,
- 1:02:29he's the guy that you're usually going to see.
- 1:02:33He occasionally gets bad reads of the Run game though.
- 1:02:36I've seen him out of position a few times.
- 1:02:39So compare him very similarly to Tisdale in that regard where,
- 1:02:44you know, occasionally getting into bed, read a little bit out
- 1:02:46of position, but unlike his daily is also a little suspect
- 1:02:50in coverage. But his primary attribute again,
- 1:02:55is that he's a sound tackler and that when he comes on those
- 1:02:57blitzes, he makes some noise. I got you, I'm assuming not
- 1:03:01quite the Sleet Tisdale is not quite okay?
- 1:03:06When you talk about the running game is he like is this like a
- 1:03:10read-option thing or is it one? Is he taking bad angles to the
- 1:03:13gaps? It's usually in the Reeds.
- 1:03:17He's out there. He's either too aggressive or
- 1:03:19too hesitant. He hasn't found that that middle
- 1:03:22ground where he can get the read from the uses.
- 1:03:28Read his guard to quarterback. Watch the quarterbacks eyes he I
- 1:03:32was a little slow with that, and that means that the Lyman is
- 1:03:36already gotten to the second level can get get in his pads or
- 1:03:41he'll pick, you pick too soon. Pick early.
- 1:03:44Not wait for his read and then he's in a bad place.
- 1:03:47So gather. All right Brian, let's take a
- 1:03:52look here. Let's finally, look at the line
- 1:03:55guy. You mentioned you want to talk
- 1:03:56about tonight? Let's Camp hoarsely.
- 1:03:58A 6-foot to 290-pound defensive tackle.
- 1:04:01How to Riverton. New Jersey with a three-star.
- 1:04:03Any came out, only one sack this year, but be a defensive tackle
- 1:04:09twenty seven tackles? That's, that's a pretty high
- 1:04:13number. What are we seeing out of this
- 1:04:15big guy? Yeah, he's kind of the guy that
- 1:04:19makes a defensive line going. The defensive line is definitely
- 1:04:23in terms of the full unit, the strength of the defense, they
- 1:04:27really make an offensive line earn it and he has a good Motor
- 1:04:32for a big guy nearly 300 pounds. There he plays the three
- 1:04:37technique for them. If they go like a true nickel on
- 1:04:41third down where they roll a three man front out there he is,
- 1:04:44the he be slides to the the knows he's better against the
- 1:04:49run and the pass. He's not an Elite pass rusher by
- 1:04:52any stretch but he's really good at fighting through combos on
- 1:04:56those run plays and does does a good job of disrupting in the
- 1:05:00backfield, right, right. You mentioned that there is a
- 1:05:03good defensive lines kind of the the linchpin of their defense.
- 1:05:06But I was noticing here, they don't sack the quarterback that
- 1:05:10much. You're actually one of the worst
- 1:05:11in the country only. They've only got, you know, 11
- 1:05:15sacks for the entire year. So what is, are they good at
- 1:05:20seven edges and what are they good at?
- 1:05:23You said they're the lynchpin in the best part of the defense but
- 1:05:26they're not sacking the quarterback a lot, what do they
- 1:05:28do very well. They are the reason that team
- 1:05:33struggled to run the football and I think that they overall do
- 1:05:36a good job of kind of making the Run game, slow down to a slog.
- 1:05:44When you look at the Syracuse State until they started to
- 1:05:48bust, they busted I think two big runs in that game, but when
- 1:05:56they do a good job of, not letting the running back and
- 1:05:59quarterback, get to the second level.
- 1:06:02They keep running games, pretty much in check.
- 1:06:05All right. And you know, you take away that
- 1:06:09one big run that that Sean had. I mean it's still a good day but
- 1:06:19for a team that's that, was that focused on the running game?
- 1:06:23I think they did a pretty good job against Syracuse.
- 1:06:25Overall, the first half in particular, where they really
- 1:06:29kind of shut the whole the whole offense down.
- 1:06:32For most of the first half there got it.
- 1:06:36All right so there's your offensive and defensive looks at
- 1:06:40the Boston College Eagles. Now let's flip it over to the
- 1:06:44Iota version of the Hokies and Brian.
- 1:06:48I'm going to say this. We're going to start with the
- 1:06:49offense, Justin Fuente being part and being a ton in that
- 1:06:53offensive room. It is not a small iota.
- 1:06:56It's paid big dividends the last two weeks, not only in yards
- 1:06:59production but also in points on the board.
- 1:07:03So if you're in there and what do you hope?
- 1:07:06He's saying that keeps us, you know, improving scoring points.
- 1:07:10Moving the ball. Significantly better to the tune
- 1:07:13of what almost 80 yards, a game in two weeks.
- 1:07:19Yeah, I think the thing that, I mean, I think they talked about
- 1:07:22it and there's, you know, they're saying well yeah, it's
- 1:07:24still corn, calling the play. Yeah, I know his, but what Brad
- 1:07:28cornelison is not good. At is the little things that
- 1:07:31would Justin Fuente is good, at is the little things at least in
- 1:07:36terms of scheme planning, everything like that.
- 1:07:39When we look at the game plans for like a week 1, we see Justin
- 1:07:44Fuente his fingers all over and all three years be playing
- 1:07:48everyone. When we look at the last couple
- 1:07:50weeks, you start to see it a little bit more too.
- 1:07:54And I think that's that's the thing that That break or Nelson
- 1:07:56struggles at. And that's the thing that Justin
- 1:07:58Fuente is good at is those kind of little things and what he's
- 1:08:02focused on primarily is your commitment back to the running
- 1:08:05game and seeing areas where, if we tweak Personnel groupings, if
- 1:08:11we tweak, you know, who's getting the emphasis who's
- 1:08:15getting those touches, you know, we've seen distinctly effort to
- 1:08:20get tray the ball and to get Malachi Thomas the ball, the
- 1:08:23last two weeks. And that has had trickle-down
- 1:08:28effect throughout the whole offense.
- 1:08:30All right, so when you talk about Tre is you mentioned
- 1:08:33something here. Calculated shots, right?
- 1:08:35Not just essentially not doing what we did.
- 1:08:38Was it against Pitt that not pit.
- 1:08:42Just shot shot shot where we took.
- 1:08:46We have the Gallo shot, downfield off the pot pass and
- 1:08:50we had the tray shot that wound up in the touchdown.
- 1:08:53Yeah we need to take calculated shots.
- 1:08:56So what we don't want to see is the third and one call from last
- 1:09:01week. What we do want to see is some
- 1:09:03of those big plays down the field like the 12 tray.
- 1:09:07Like the 12 Gala that you mention.
- 1:09:10And, and again, calculated shots calculated risk.
- 1:09:14That, you know, I talk about this all the time on this show,
- 1:09:17right? When we talk about calculated
- 1:09:20risk, we're talking about the ability to See you in a
- 1:09:24situation where can I take a little bit of a chance?
- 1:09:27And it not hurt? Me, too bad.
- 1:09:29Yeah. And that's going to be in taking
- 1:09:31the shots because they're going to give you that.
- 1:09:33They're gonna be up at the line of scrimmage against the wide
- 1:09:36receivers. They're going to have pretty
- 1:09:40much everybody, but the corners and the free safety in the Box,
- 1:09:44most of the time. So we need to be able to assess
- 1:09:50the situation and take take those Risk every now and again
- 1:09:54but you also want to make sure that you know you're doing the
- 1:09:58smart thing with the football as well.
- 1:10:00And also making sure you're still attacking every area of
- 1:10:03that defense to keep them honest.
- 1:10:06It's true. Braun on.
- 1:10:08Now the other thing I think what kept us from probably scoring
- 1:10:14over 30 and maybe even mid-30s, you know, we had some bad
- 1:10:20procedural penalties. Is there anything?
- 1:10:23When when you guys would have a game like that at Sydney, where,
- 1:10:27you know, you had some false start, somebody wasn't lined up
- 1:10:30correctly, there's anything you guys would do back then.
- 1:10:34That maybe they've implemented this week to know if only one
- 1:10:37game but we don't want it to grow into a bigger problem.
- 1:10:40Yeah, we have these things called 100-yard gassers, that
- 1:10:42were really a big deterrent to procedure penalties.
- 1:10:47All right, so we'll know not to be real though.
- 1:10:53You know, we talked about the one that was called on Parker
- 1:10:56Clements that was as fandom as it gets.
- 1:11:02There was a questionable, you know, I say it's questionable
- 1:11:06personal foul that was called on Brock Hoffman then you had a
- 1:11:09couple offsides, that key moments.
- 1:11:12But all of these puts you by either behind the sticks or in
- 1:11:15early Downs or from a third manageable to a third and long
- 1:11:21on third downs. And that's what you To avoid and
- 1:11:25we had probably a good handful of those situations against
- 1:11:30Syracuse and we need to limit those against BC because upfront
- 1:11:33BC's better than Syracuse. All right.
- 1:11:35Brian you mentioned to me, just a little while ago that we've
- 1:11:40got to stay at fishing on third down.
- 1:11:41We're not as terrible as some people think.
- 1:11:44I mean, we're 42nd in the country at it and, you know,
- 1:11:47we're converting about forty three and a half percent.
- 1:11:51We were 45 last week. if we stay at our mean and let's say we we
- 1:11:58get 15 third down opportunities and let's say we convert seven
- 1:12:05of them is that enough against this defense and potentially the
- 1:12:09offense on the other side of the ball or is it need to be just a
- 1:12:11little bit more? I think that's probably the
- 1:12:15minimum we can get away with. I think we probably need to be a
- 1:12:17little bit better if we want this to be a comfortable win.
- 1:12:21Okay, so, if it's, if, if we hit the average, it's a few people,
- 1:12:25it's a touchdown win. If we're below the average, get
- 1:12:29the beers. Get the Maalox out.
- 1:12:31Get your, yeah. Peter comfort food out because
- 1:12:34you're gonna be sitting there Friday night.
- 1:12:35Feeling misery might, you might need the Maalox for the for the
- 1:12:39seven because it might come down to the wire, all right?
- 1:12:43There you go, guys. The offense.
- 1:12:46A lot of things you've heard. We've been talking about the
- 1:12:47last few weeks that we've seen more of the last few weeks, the
- 1:12:51brown with the defense we've already mentioned.
- 1:12:53Their offense is an absolute rut right now and you know, I'm just
- 1:13:00going to guess. That.
- 1:13:05Blow the Box, whoever's playing strong.
- 1:13:08Safety will be within three yards of the line of scrimmage.
- 1:13:12We definitely need to make them beat us by throwing the football
- 1:13:16and preferably throwing the football down the field.
- 1:13:20And when I say that, I also want to say, I don't want to let Vey
- 1:13:25flowers, beat us with one place. We still need to be sound in the
- 1:13:30secondary and not LEDs a flowers Beach deep, but Within that, I
- 1:13:36would rather them try to throw the ball to beat us.
- 1:13:39Then just pound garhwal game. All right, if they're if they're
- 1:13:44averaging six yards, a carry with gar.
- 1:13:47Whoa, it's going to be a long day even if we pull out the
- 1:13:51victory, it's going to be a long damn day.
- 1:13:54I would, but I would much rather, regardless of who's
- 1:13:57pulling the trigger, I would much rather than try to throw
- 1:13:59the ball against 10 to the 4 on that.
- 1:14:05Would you be even as good as Walter is?
- 1:14:07Would you be in favor potentially a bracket or
- 1:14:10whatever blazes a flower is constantly somebody over the top
- 1:14:14of him? No, because they do have other
- 1:14:17guys that can can go deep on you and that becomes more of a
- 1:14:21problem. If, if it's more head or if it's
- 1:14:25jerking back in the game, it's going to be very less than
- 1:14:3150/50, if if courcelles in there.
- 1:14:35In terms of puts driving the ball downfield consistently,
- 1:14:38he'll hit one every now. And again, it's just it's not
- 1:14:40his game, it's not what he does and it gets worse, the more
- 1:14:44pressure you put on him, but the key is going to be because they
- 1:14:49might have to end up playing that underneath game.
- 1:14:51Is that we have to tackle, tackle tackle, tackle garhwal,
- 1:14:55because he's if he gets going early, it's going to wear us
- 1:14:58down as the game goes on. Tackle, him early in the game.
- 1:15:02Get him to the ground. Don't let him get in rhythm.
- 1:15:05Yeah, and can I just say something real quick?
- 1:15:09Yeah. All right.
- 1:15:11We won last week if we tackle better last week, that game is
- 1:15:15probably an easier game of stomach.
- 1:15:18It's probably two touchdowns. If we tackle better against
- 1:15:21Syracuse, we win that game. If I could go back even further
- 1:15:27the games that we have not tackled, well, we have not won
- 1:15:31and whether Virginia Notre Dame. So you go through West Virginia
- 1:15:36is not as good as us, but we had a terrible tackling game early.
- 1:15:40They beat us Notre, Dame is better than us.
- 1:15:45Some people say they're slightly already.
- 1:15:46That's fine. They're still a top 20 team.
- 1:15:48We had a bad tackling game, we lost to them.
- 1:15:51The pit gain, I'm throwing away, never remember that one again,
- 1:15:55but the Syracuse game. So three of our four losses, bad
- 1:15:58tackling gains from or a primary reason we lose.
- 1:16:01And if you're playing someone like BC, who is not as talented
- 1:16:05are missing players, missing tackles just gets the confidence
- 1:16:09up. Yeah.
- 1:16:14And you know, when we talk about that an extension of that is
- 1:16:17don't extend drives for them and some of that is don't miss
- 1:16:21tackles that ultimately turn. What should have been a, you
- 1:16:25know, forth in 3 into a fourth and one, don't miss tackles that
- 1:16:31turn. What should have been a fourth
- 1:16:33and five into a first down? Like there's so many times where
- 1:16:38you'll One Missed tackle or just being their hair late and then
- 1:16:42notnot Forming them up or feed them up and I was suddenly they
- 1:16:46got a first down instead of it being fourth down.
- 1:16:48You know, so many times that we were in position to make it a
- 1:16:52fourth and three or more, that it became a fourth and one, and
- 1:16:56with our, you know, record against fourth down, they
- 1:17:00elected to go forward and they get it again because it's a
- 1:17:03short down there. Yep.
- 1:17:06And we can't, we can't commit silly penalties.
- 1:17:08We had, we had a couple of those on defense last week.
- 1:17:11Yeah. So that's the big thing.
- 1:17:13For me, this week is don't let actions that you can control
- 1:17:17extend drives for the other offense.
- 1:17:20This the team were playing is their Limited in what they can
- 1:17:24do. By all means the easy stuff.
- 1:17:29Don't let that become the problem.
- 1:17:31If the easy stuff of tackling and dumb penalties become the
- 1:17:37problem, they can win this game. All right, Brian.
- 1:17:41So we're going to go to prediction time here and I'm
- 1:17:44going to lead us off the last couple weeks.
- 1:17:49You know. We played great defensively.
- 1:17:53I just wonder if the short week hurts us.
- 1:17:56And defensively, I don't want to throw this on the defense, but I
- 1:18:03don't know. Just my pessimistic side is
- 1:18:05still with us and I'm going to go 23 20 BC in some garbage ass
- 1:18:11field goal or late touchdown that seems to always happen
- 1:18:15against BC and they get us up there.
- 1:18:18So you see a return to the mean for the offense?
- 1:18:23I mean, you know what, it's the whole ones ones, the 123 thing,
- 1:18:32they do it a third time, maybe I have some faith in them, but
- 1:18:35there's still pieces here and there I see I just couldn't
- 1:18:39trust and we know how thin we are on the defensive side of the
- 1:18:43ball and they're pounding into us all game long that defensive
- 1:18:48line is going to wear as we get later in the game and that's not
- 1:18:51weird. How about you?
- 1:18:54I've got 2721 VT. All right, six points so it's
- 1:18:59going to be a grinder. Yeah we got it.
- 1:19:02We got a Bay Lodge game guys. And this was probably going to
- 1:19:06be one of those where you either Take the Lead late or we kick a
- 1:19:12field goal to take it out of from a one score to a, they need
- 1:19:18a touchdown. And then we have to kind of
- 1:19:21watch the clock trickle away on them.
- 1:19:26So yeah, I foresee a Maalox game that the Hokies are able to pull
- 1:19:30out there but now I don't necessarily see a ton of
- 1:19:35difference regardless of what quarterback starts.
- 1:19:37Like I said there's going to be a negative side the the only way
- 1:19:41BC comes out and completely surprises us is that if for
- 1:19:47whatever reason, jirka Vic is 100% healed and he knocks off
- 1:19:52the rust into drives and all of a sudden dealing with, we're
- 1:19:55dealing with with Peak jirka Vic for three and a half quarters.
- 1:20:01And that would not be great at all.
- 1:20:03All right, Brian, let's flip it over to Saturday.
- 1:20:05Pickens, if y'all did not listen to the episode from Monday,
- 1:20:12Brian coming off a 90, and one week with the bad beat at the
- 1:20:16Clemson game, he's 51 45140. And then you should not be
- 1:20:21taking that to the end zone, you should be just diving on it and
- 1:20:24In the game. I went six.
- 1:20:27Three and one last week they got me as well.
- 1:20:29I'm at 52:39 one. So, technically brine, if people
- 1:20:34had played every single one of our plays either, all of yours
- 1:20:38are all of mine, they would be making money because we are both
- 1:20:44well above 500. Actually, there's no way we can
- 1:20:47go under 500, even if we screw up every game this week, which I
- 1:20:51don't foresee us doing that. So let's start Brian.
- 1:20:54ACC weight versus UNC in and out of conference game.
- 1:20:59It's the stupidest thing you've ever heard of right UNC is the
- 1:21:04favorite in this game by two and a half.
- 1:21:08Wake, how I don't know. I mean they're literally saying
- 1:21:13it's a home game, so we're making you and see the favorite.
- 1:21:19Wait my leader. My lead on this one.
- 1:21:21No, I'm leaving on this one. Okay, because I still got the
- 1:21:24lead in the overall standings but I've got to take wake here.
- 1:21:31Unc's defense, can't stop anything.
- 1:21:34They will not stop wake and I think wakes defense is good
- 1:21:37enough, probably to stop you and see two to three times.
- 1:21:40I think weight wins this game going away somewhere like 4228
- 1:21:454530 but I can See you and see winning this game.
- 1:21:50Much less laying points. What about you?
- 1:21:55Yeah, I'm actually on the Wake train as well.
- 1:21:57I think they take care of business here.
- 1:22:00I still don't know how you and see.
- 1:22:02Every week is picked to win their game.
- 1:22:05Like, have we not seen this defense?
- 1:22:07Have we not seen? How while while good how hot and
- 1:22:13cold their offense can still be from from drive to drive?
- 1:22:19So I got to take wake here. They played solid all year, they
- 1:22:22can control the clock control, the line of scrimmage.
- 1:22:25They've got the just as much of a veteran quarterback at this
- 1:22:28point as UNC. I just think they're able to
- 1:22:32take care of business. All right, so we're both taking
- 1:22:35wake on that one. Next one behind you lead jute
- 1:22:38versus pit. It is laying 21 points.
- 1:22:45Poor Duke, man. They're going to get angry pit
- 1:22:49and pits going to fucking steamroll them.
- 1:22:51So givi Pitt. It is definitely going to
- 1:22:54steamroll them. If this line was 28 and a half,
- 1:22:57I'd still take it. This was things where it's like,
- 1:23:01I don't know if some of the bedding apps out there, you can
- 1:23:04buy up. I know there's been, I've seen
- 1:23:07it before where you can buy down, like, if the line is like
- 1:23:11the line. Oh, you know, you're this and
- 1:23:13you're laying some point. Well, I don't think they're
- 1:23:14going to win by 7. Well, you can pay x amount of
- 1:23:17dollars in bite down to three. I'd buy this up to 28 and a half
- 1:23:22like, Okay, whatever it takes because I think they're going to
- 1:23:25steamroll them. I mean, I don't think Duke gets
- 1:23:28to 17 and I think Pitt gets to 50.
- 1:23:33All right, this is going to be great one for you.
- 1:23:35Brian, you get lucky that I lead.
- 1:23:37Georgia Tech. Miami Miami.
- 1:23:40The last two weeks has been out there.
- 1:23:42Playing great with Van Dyke, The Freshman quarterback in there,
- 1:23:50laying 10 points to Georgia Tech.
- 1:23:53Okay. And as much as I don't like
- 1:23:56Georgia Tech. There's now multiple game tape
- 1:24:02of Van Dyke out there. And even those bad as a Georgia
- 1:24:07Tech defense is, I just think tennis too much because just
- 1:24:13when the Miami offense finds it starts, figuring things out
- 1:24:18their defense is still struggling and I do think that
- 1:24:22you know Sims and gives are going to give them problems so
- 1:24:26give me Georgia Tech, give me the ten points.
- 1:24:29All right, I'm going to I'm going to differ from you here.
- 1:24:32I'm going to go Miami here. I think they are onto something.
- 1:24:35Ting offensively. And I think their defense is
- 1:24:38able to do just enough to keep them the Georgia Tech offense
- 1:24:42from from keeping it close. So, I think it's probably, it's
- 1:24:45probably not more than 13 or 14, but I think they end up pulling
- 1:24:49out about a two to score Victory.
- 1:24:51They're all right. All right, I'm glad you picked
- 1:24:55against me on that because we know how, you know, you've been
- 1:24:59right a few weeks on Georgia Tech.
- 1:25:00It's time to get back on the other way trick, even talk about
- 1:25:03that, man. All right.
- 1:25:06Florida, State in Sea state. Did you get a chance to look at
- 1:25:10this one yet I did? Does it smell like crazy.
- 1:25:16Something smells Funky Man? It smells so funky to me and now
- 1:25:22I'm just going to jump up and say it.
- 1:25:24Give me NC State and lay in the three points because You know,
- 1:25:31for estate just had played good defense with some trouble with a
- 1:25:36trouble offense. They almost pulled it out, but I
- 1:25:41think in see State offensive ly, they're not, they don't have the
- 1:25:44the, the big time play makers, a big-time names that Clemson
- 1:25:47does, but not think they're just more steady.
- 1:25:50And I think the NC State Defense will lock up before State
- 1:25:53offense, much like Clemson did. So only laying three.
- 1:25:57Yeah, give me that. Yeah, I'm on the NC State train
- 1:26:01as well. I don't know how it's three.
- 1:26:05I know. FSU has shown a little bit more
- 1:26:07fight in the last couple weeks than they have the majority of
- 1:26:11the Season. Say, for Week 1, but I'm still
- 1:26:16not seeing enough where I would pick them against NC State with
- 1:26:19the line as low as three. So I'll take Kenzie stayed here.
- 1:26:23All right, we're going in Sea State, train, here's a goal for
- 1:26:27your Brawn Louisville coming off.
- 1:26:29Active losses against Clemson, Clemson lamp or points.
- 1:26:38Yeah I'm lead on this one right? Yeah it's illegal on this one.
- 1:26:42Thank goodness. I'm gonna take Clemson.
- 1:26:46Clemson bit me last week. I said, I said last week, they
- 1:26:51haven't beaten any team by More Than That Matters.
- 1:26:53By more than one score and they wouldn't have if not for the
- 1:26:57fumble return. So I think that still holds, but
- 1:27:00I think it's going to be a touchdown Advantage here.
- 1:27:02So give me Clemson. Yeah, and Louisville is coming
- 1:27:07off, you know? You know, the loss by 15.
- 1:27:15I'm torn on this one too. But I think four is just not
- 1:27:19enough to lay because I think cleansing will tie up that
- 1:27:23offense most of the game. I don't, I don't think Clinton's
- 1:27:26going to get too much more than 23, 24 points.
- 1:27:31But I don't, I can't see the Louisville getting I can't see
- 1:27:35the new evil, you know, being in the ballpark with them.
- 1:27:39I think FSU has two studs, I don't think Louisville has
- 1:27:41enough studs to run with them. All right, Brian, let's go out
- 1:27:45of conference now. Hendon hooker, Bowl
- 1:27:49continuously, keeping an eye on the men down at the University
- 1:27:52of Tennessee. And this week they get the
- 1:27:56ranked Kentucky, Wildcats coming in Kentucky who's you know,
- 1:28:01coming into the game ranked They are 6 and to fame, is it
- 1:28:08Kentucky? Kentucky is laying a very, very
- 1:28:12small two points here, essentially getting the home
- 1:28:15field advantage. What do you know?
- 1:28:17It's my turn? Honestly, as much as I love
- 1:28:22tendon Kentucky's, just too me too.
- 1:28:25Good of an overall team. To say that small of a margin.
- 1:28:32If it was a touchdown, I'd probably be thinking more
- 1:28:35Tennessee, but to against a well-balanced, team is just not
- 1:28:39enough because I think it took he's going to score some points.
- 1:28:41I think. Tennessee is going to score a
- 1:28:42little bit, but in the end Kentucky wins, you know,
- 1:28:47somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 24, 30 23, okay.
- 1:28:58If this line was for and not to, I would have taken Tennessee.
- 1:29:02So I'll take Kentucky. I think it's a field goal.
- 1:29:05Victory late. All righty, but Brian is going
- 1:29:10to be taking Tennessee there. And the next game, Brian, The
- 1:29:18Undefeated Michigan State Spartans against kind of a Wily
- 1:29:25Purdue crew led by Jeff brohm. Michigan State, only lane 3
- 1:29:35points against Purdue. We feel on this one, Brian.
- 1:29:41This is a was funny lines. It's a funny line only because
- 1:29:47what Purdue has been doing two teams ranked highly as they, as
- 1:29:53they approach that matchup. But I think this is the one
- 1:29:57where Talent Wheels out here. I think this is MSU all the way.
- 1:30:03Probably about a 10 point win for them.
- 1:30:05So yeah, I'm going to take will takes party here.
- 1:30:09All right, I'm going to differ with you on this one, I think
- 1:30:12Michigan State's coming off that.
- 1:30:13I think there's going to be a massive hangover, I think
- 1:30:16they're going to win the game, but I think I'm going to take /,
- 1:30:19dude, could take the points in cover because I mean they just
- 1:30:25be Michigan. That came Dane that game came
- 1:30:29down to the end. They just got ranked in the top
- 1:30:31five. They are in line to get The
- 1:30:33playoffs. They've got to go down to West
- 1:30:37Lafayette. Look for A330 dogfight on this
- 1:30:44one. Okay, but I'm going to take for
- 1:30:47you and I'll hold the three points.
- 1:30:52I think I can get it done there. Alright man, alright Pac-12
- 1:30:56after dark. Yeah the season.
- 1:30:58This is going to look at is one of those big pack. 12 games
- 1:31:01between Washington and Oregon, Washington.
- 1:31:03Anton has come to beginning of the Season fell flat on the
- 1:31:07face. Jimmy Lake who was a great
- 1:31:09defensive coordinator under Peterson is not doing as a head.
- 1:31:13Coach, they play organ or going to get in line to get in the
- 1:31:17playoff, organ Lane, six and a half.
- 1:31:20What do you think on this one? Brian?
- 1:31:22Or is just me? This is me.
- 1:31:23That's you. That's you.
- 1:31:25Sorry. Gotta keep it rotate here.
- 1:31:27I think personally, I think we're again knows that they're
- 1:31:31in that vulnerable position. So I think they're going to win
- 1:31:35this game. Big over a up and down
- 1:31:40Washington, Husky team, I'm actually right there with you.
- 1:31:45I think they see what the college football playoff has
- 1:31:47presented for them and they know that they've got to go out there
- 1:31:51and and win and occasionally when convincingly they probably
- 1:31:56don't need a super convincing win here, but they definitely
- 1:32:00need to handle their business. This one can't be that
- 1:32:03wire-to-wire game. So give me Oregon here.
- 1:32:06Well, right, both on the war again.
- 1:32:09All right, Brian. One of the more interesting
- 1:32:11matchups of the week. I'm still trying to figure out
- 1:32:13how this game got put together with read, some backstories,
- 1:32:17Liberty goes and visits Ole Miss down in Oxford at Vaught
- 1:32:22Hemingway. Stadium Ole Miss.
- 1:32:25Who is ranked Liberty? Who has lost multiple games this
- 1:32:29year? Ole Miss is only laying 9
- 1:32:32points. What do you think on this one?
- 1:32:37I mean this is the classic which team can stop the other the most
- 1:32:41because neither of them really gets a whole ton of stops on
- 1:32:44defense, but I think Ole Miss gets enough.
- 1:32:49I think this is probably about a about a two score game.
- 1:32:52Ole Miss runs away, late. I don't think Liberty can quite
- 1:32:57keep Pace with them. Yeah, I'm with you on that one.
- 1:33:00I think after the bad game against Bad game against Auburn
- 1:33:09last week where, you know, Lane went for 4th down on more than
- 1:33:15one time with kind of no sense. He was he was chasing points.
- 1:33:20Like hell he was chasing points and it you know, the question is
- 1:33:26that he feel like whoever was in there that wasn't Matt Correll
- 1:33:29just couldn't get it done. He had to take the high risks.
- 1:33:33I think a week to playing even with the backup quarterback.
- 1:33:36I think lame can figure out how to score points.
- 1:33:40I think it's going to be entertaining game.
- 1:33:42It's going to be at lunch time. So get yourself a big bowl of
- 1:33:46wings. There you go.
- 1:33:48The TV and watching. Probably run up and down the
- 1:33:50field but I'm with you Ole Miss wins this one.
- 1:33:54Probably about 14 to 28 as a final.
- 1:33:58There you go. I think this is going to be a
- 1:34:00chilly weekend for me. No wings.
- 1:34:02I'm going chilly first See the season chili.
- 1:34:06Very nice, very nice. All right, Brian?
- 1:34:09The big matchup of the day, right?
- 1:34:11Wise is Auburn and Texas. A&M both are sitting in section,
- 1:34:14203 in the top 15. Go get before we get into the
- 1:34:20game itself. They're both 6 and 2.
- 1:34:24They are the highest who ranked to Lost teams in the cfp, Guess
- 1:34:30Who the highest run one ranked while, steam is where you know
- 1:34:34who that you got the highest one-loss.
- 1:34:37Team is Alabama, guess who the highest Three Laws team is
- 1:34:40Brian? Which go Mississippi State at 5
- 1:34:45& 3, okay? So you sit here and people are
- 1:34:50going to be like, well well Alabama, beat them and them and
- 1:34:54if they beat Auburn which I think the shine of the Texas A&M
- 1:34:59situations coming off a little bit more and more yet they blew
- 1:35:04the doors off South Carolina but we know that's a huge rebuild
- 1:35:07down there. Auburn's going to get to like
- 1:35:10nine and two and go to the Iron Bowl and lose.
- 1:35:14And the first thing people will say, well well, look at that
- 1:35:18Alabama, beat Miami, who was in the top 15, they beat a top ten
- 1:35:22Auburn team. They be the top 15 on this team
- 1:35:25and it's just like, I know. This is why you hate Pole,
- 1:35:27right? Oh, yeah, because especially
- 1:35:32early season polls because you're sitting here and it's
- 1:35:35just like, I don't know if they are truly worthy of being 13th
- 1:35:41and 14th ranked team. They're a bunch of Team Six and
- 1:35:4320 with two losses. But whoever wins this game is
- 1:35:49probably going to get the precursory bump to almost the
- 1:35:52top 10 and eventually break into the top 10.
- 1:35:56Yep. So with all that said, yep am
- 1:36:03four and a half Point favorites. I'll let you go on your Your
- 1:36:06monologue first. And then, this is the one.
- 1:36:13I mean, I know it's a big one and I grappled with it.
- 1:36:20I think Auburn pulls this off. I think they might win this game
- 1:36:25outright, but I will definitely take Auburn in this one.
- 1:36:29I think that Am I think the Secret's out?
- 1:36:34I think the, I think the the recipe of the sauces has been
- 1:36:37discovered, and I think anytime they match up against a quality
- 1:36:42opponent, it's going to be a struggle for them.
- 1:36:45So I'll take all of her in here. Yeah, going to be an absolute
- 1:36:48fight. You know, the calzada kid who
- 1:36:54played his latest proverbial ass off against Against Bama
- 1:37:00struggled last week 12 or 24 and am just ran the ball down.
- 1:37:05The Gamecocks throat. So they had two guys over 100
- 1:37:08yards. I think Alibi thing called in
- 1:37:10does win the game outright. I think getting the four and a
- 1:37:13half that I know it's on the road.
- 1:37:14That's a tough environment. But Auburn does have a good
- 1:37:18defense. They do.
- 1:37:20It's not what it was a few years ago.
- 1:37:22But it's not Dreadful by any means.
- 1:37:25So I really think Auburn when just came out, right?
- 1:37:28And like I said, they're going to go to the Iron Bowl not into
- 1:37:31and they're going to go in there with a chance to go to the SEC
- 1:37:33title game and they're going to give all over and they're going
- 1:37:35to give Alabama top 10 with Yep. All right.
- 1:37:39Brian anything breaking. The last hour and 40 minutes
