- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome back to the Yukon Football Coaches Show. Mike chris
- 0:02Speaker 1: Pino along with Jim Moore. We're talking about Duke. They're
- 0:05Speaker 1: in three point thirty kickoff at the Rent. We talked
- 0:08Speaker 1: about Darien Mensa, their quarterback. He's seventy percent accurate on
- 0:12Speaker 1: his throws over twenty five hundred yards, but you have
- 0:16Speaker 1: to throw it to people. And Jim, they've got a
- 0:19Speaker 1: bunch of receivers with high yardage per catch numbers. I
- 0:24Speaker 1: mean Kayshawn Brown fourteen point three a catch, three touchdowns,
- 0:30Speaker 1: Cooper bar Kate, I think that's how he pronounced his name.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Seventeen yards a catch. I'm gonna I'm just gonna make
- 0:37Speaker 1: a wild assumption. You know, they throw the ball down
- 0:39Speaker 1: the field quite a bit.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Yeah, they pushed the ball down the field, and they're
- 0:43Speaker 2: also really good run after the catch guys. You know,
- 0:46Speaker 2: it's certainly the best receiving group that we've faced thus far,
- 0:51Speaker 2: and very impressive, big time players as you'd expect in
- 0:56Speaker 2: the ACC and at a school like Duke, and tremendous
- 0:59Speaker 2: athletic meticism, great chemistry between the quarterback and his receivers,
- 1:04Speaker 2: whether it's tight ends or receivers or backs out of
- 1:06Speaker 2: the backfield. So yeah, I mean they are a prolific
- 1:10Speaker 2: passing attack, but they can still run the ball, you know.
- 1:13Speaker 2: So it's a it's a great challenge for us, and
- 1:16Speaker 2: we're going to have to be at our very very
- 1:19Speaker 2: very very best to defend these guys.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Nate Shephard number twenty, running back, averaging six and a
- 1:25Speaker 1: half yards and carry five touchdowns. Anderson Castle fifty eight
- 1:29Speaker 1: carries five and a half yards. So you know, to
- 1:31Speaker 1: your point, they do run the ball. Well, I mean,
- 1:34Speaker 1: I guess you got to pick your poison. Almost. It's
- 1:37Speaker 1: gonna be tough to defend these guys, and they do
- 1:40Speaker 1: score points. So I'm seeing an offensive game here unfolding.
- 1:43Speaker 1: What do you think.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I don't ever know what's going to happen, Mike, If
- 1:47Speaker 2: I I would drive myself crazy if I tried to predict,
- 1:50Speaker 2: because when I've done that in the past, like, oh,
- 1:52Speaker 2: what kind of game is this going to be? You know,
- 1:55Speaker 2: I don't know that I ever get it right. It's
- 1:57Speaker 2: just you go in and you have a play, and
- 2:00Speaker 2: you need to be ready to adjust that plan, you know,
- 2:03Speaker 2: depending on whatever variables or factors show up. So I
- 2:07Speaker 2: got out of the prediction business a long time ago
- 2:09Speaker 2: because I found it was driving me crazy, you know,
- 2:12Speaker 2: And I think that what's important is that your team
- 2:16Speaker 2: is ready to adjust to whatever is happening in that game.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Whether score, tendency breaks, you know, unscotted looks, injuries, it
- 2:25Speaker 2: doesn't matter. You know, you can't control those things, so
- 2:28Speaker 2: you just focus on the things you can control.
- 2:30Speaker 1: All right, that's why you got out of ESPN. Good
- 2:33Speaker 1: news us. Let's talk about their defense. I'll tell you what.
- 2:38Speaker 1: I can't wait to see this guy, Vincent Anthony Junior.
- 2:41Speaker 1: He where's number seven. He's a d ND eleven tackles
- 2:44Speaker 1: for lost, six and a half sacks. He's a senior,
- 2:47Speaker 1: very experienced guy, and he's six' Six jim.
- 2:49Speaker 2: Six, Seconds, MIKE i, Know i'm. NOT i don't Think
- 2:54Speaker 2: i'm as excited to see him as you seem to.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Be i'm not that, excited you, Know he's.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Reasoned both of their ends are tremendous, players big time football,
- 3:05Speaker 2: players athleticism and just violent and excellent pass rushers and incredibly.
- 3:13Speaker 2: Disruptive and you, know for all the talk about their,
- 3:16Speaker 2: Defense i'm sure they're they're. Off i'm sorry about their.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Offense i'm sure team times their. Defense you know it's, like,
- 3:21Speaker 2: hey what about, Us, Well i'll tell you about. Them
- 3:24Speaker 2: they are freaking really good and Many, diaz as we all,
- 3:26Speaker 2: know is is an outstanding defensive. Coach you, know he's
- 3:30Speaker 2: he's made his. BONES i mean he you, know he's
- 3:32Speaker 2: a head coach now because one of the reasons because
- 3:34Speaker 2: he was such a great defensive coach and that hasn't.
- 3:36Speaker 2: Changed and you see his fingerprints all over the way they.
- 3:39Speaker 2: PLAY i have great respect For. MANNY i always. Have
- 3:42Speaker 2: i've always thought he was just a great. Coach and you,
- 3:45Speaker 2: know they just look really good on on.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Defense, yeah they're two safeties come to you, know certainly
- 3:51Speaker 1: get your. Attention Caleb, weaver he's a grad, transfer came
- 3:54Speaker 1: from Sam Sam Houston state And Deshaun stone wars number.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Eight he's at fifty.
- 3:59Speaker 2: Two tack six.'.
- 4:01Speaker 1: THREE guy, I mean i know you've been around this for.
- 4:04Speaker 1: So long size, does help? Doesn't it in that. Safety
- 4:08Speaker 1: position if you've got length, and height doesn't that?
- 4:11Speaker 2: Help you it helps you? In football football is a
- 4:14Speaker 2: game for. Bigger people, you know. Big guys big guys
- 4:18Speaker 2: break little guys and, SO yeah i mean when you
- 4:22Speaker 2: see it safety that size that, you know your your eyes,
- 4:25Speaker 2: light up your ears, per cup you, get, okay well
- 4:27Speaker 2: how are we going to handle? This guy, SO yeah, i,
- 4:31Speaker 2: mean SHOOT like, i said it's they've got players all
- 4:33Speaker 2: over the field, on defense they've got players all over
- 4:35Speaker 2: the field, on offense they're solid on. Special teams they're very,
- 4:38Speaker 2: well coached and that's one of the reasons, why they're,
- 4:40Speaker 2: you know the best team that we're going to play. This,
- 4:42Speaker 2: YEAR yeah i agree.
- 4:43Speaker 1: With that, final note. Coach starts you guys got up
- 4:47Speaker 1: to a real good START against UAB and UiB had
- 4:50Speaker 1: had trouble in the. First quarter getting off to a
- 4:52Speaker 1: good start against This team duke, at home how important
- 4:57Speaker 1: do you think?
- 4:58Speaker 2: That is it's really it's.
- 4:59Speaker 1: All.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Important means there's statistical data, that says, you know the
- 5:03Speaker 2: team that, scores first whether it be a touchdown or a,
- 5:06Speaker 2: field goal has a higher percentage chance of winning the,
- 5:11Speaker 2: football game. You know so it's always important for us
- 5:14Speaker 2: to get off to a, good START and i think
- 5:15Speaker 2: it always helps, your confidence. You know and so it's,
- 5:19Speaker 2: you know you've been to. Our practice we have fast
- 5:21Speaker 2: start periods all, the time and we just come out
- 5:23Speaker 2: of stretch and put the ball down and. Start playing
- 5:24Speaker 2: and the, Emphasis, is hey we've got to be able
- 5:26Speaker 2: to come out of the tunnel and get started and.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Get going and there will be no difference in how
- 5:32Speaker 2: we approach it this week than we ever do and
- 5:34Speaker 2: it's but it might be a little bit more critical
- 5:37Speaker 2: to the success that we're trying to have to, start fast, All.
