Transcript
- 0:00The following program is produced by the tech Talk Radio Network. Hey is comedian
- 0:04Kathleen Madigan, and you're listening to the tech Talk Radio is something I will
- 0:07never be listening to because I hate technology. But for those of you two
- 0:12your guys, welcome to another episode of tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor
- 0:20and I'm justin Lemmy. Good have y'all here. Thank you everybody for tuning
- 0:24in for the latest in computers, technology and the Internet. Sorry I took
- 0:29it off from you guys. Wow, you know what, guys, I'll
- 0:34be I'll be sitting here. If you guys need me, I don't.
- 0:37Yeah, this is the Andy Show. Tell oh no, yeah, we
- 0:40never we know how that goes. That's never that much fun. Actually,
- 0:43there's so much stuff to talk about. I feel like we could just like
- 0:46spin a wheel, because like tech is always evolving, we could just do
- 0:49one of those like you know, spin to wind wheels, like wheel of
- 0:52Fortune or something. Just just like spin the wheel and we'll have like a
- 0:55topic wheel. We'll see what. Hold on, John has got to wheel,
- 1:00Sean has got a wheel? Like there's wait, hold on, there's
- 1:03an actual website where you can just make a wheel. Are you kidding me?
- 1:07Random random spin wheel dot com. Random random spinwheel dot Com. I
- 1:11like, oh my gosh, so what do you Does it come with sound
- 1:15effects? Yes, oh my gosh. Hard to hear it. Yeah,
- 1:19you can barely hear it to my headphones. But yeah, it spins.
- 1:23This is random spin wheel dot com. And so you can create the where
- 1:29you want it to land on, right, ye, and then you give
- 1:30it a spin. Oh my god, this is great. I love it.
- 1:34Filling in the slices right now, I got four more. I'm just
- 1:36gonna see what I can do. Okay, but give me some topic.
- 1:38I need more topic. How about listener email? All right, okay,
- 1:42listen to emails? Elon musk elon musk oh, threads, threads, video
- 1:49games all right, video games? Um, giant screen TVs? Okay,
- 1:55all right? The yeah, trans or how about the spear in Vegas?
- 2:00The sphere all okay, the sphere? Okay? How about how about how
- 2:02about new tech products? New tech products? Yeah? Okay, um,
- 2:07we could do uh great websites? What are we? Where can I come
- 2:14on? Are we literally doing show on the air? Yep? All right?
- 2:17So I added a bunch of here. So I added chat GPT,
- 2:21Android versus iPhone, Andy bills. Yeah great, that's why it's bird Dog,
- 2:24which is for me right, new technology in order day. Wait,
- 2:29you sifted Notre Dame in there, listener emails, reds, video games le
- 2:35four yeah, video games? Okay, okay, okay, okay, yeah,
- 2:38all right, so generation that's twelve, that's twelve things. All right,
- 2:42all right? Are we gonna do this? Are we literally gonna do
- 2:44this? Right now? We're going this is what's to talk about on the
- 2:50show, and the wheel goes round Android versus iPhone? Oh my god.
- 2:55Perfect. The beta for iOS seventeen is out right. What do you think?
- 3:00Have you? Have you used it? I haven't got it yet,
- 3:01but it's apparently stealing some of the pixel features for their camera of course,
- 3:07Oh my gosh. Who would have thought. I'll be honest with you,
- 3:12I was driving today and I asked Sirie something very basic, and you know
- 3:16what she said, I can't do that on the iPhone. I'm thinking,
- 3:20wait a minute, wait a minute, you can't give me information. So
- 3:24um. At the next stop, I opened up Google right, and I
- 3:29went to Google Assistant, and it found it for me and recited when I
- 3:32needed and I thought in a minute. Is this the experience that Android users
- 3:37get over the iPhone? Yeah, sirius guy, wouldn't you guys rate Siri
- 3:42is one of the worst when it comes to assistance. Oh no, I
- 3:47like, yeah, yeah, nobody even talks about Bigsby's the worst. I'd
- 3:53say Echo like Amazon Alexa's next, then Siri, then Google Android. I
- 4:00like, I do like Kartana, Cortana. Oh, oh god, Cortana.
- 4:04I forgot about Kurtana. Oh god. I'd be right around Bigsby.
- 4:08Yeah, that's that's Bigsbee level. I do like the sense of humor that
- 4:12Amazon Alexa does provide, because like one time I had said, I said,
- 4:19you know, hey, Alexa, and then it started up and then
- 4:23I realized I wanted to ask something on my phone, and I said Siri,
- 4:26and then it said, oh, this is awkward. Now You're only
- 4:31the only reason I have Siri enabled on my phone is because it's required for
- 4:35Apple car Play. Wait, can you actually turn off Siri? Yeah?
- 4:40Oh I had no idea. Yeah, but it's but but it is required
- 4:46for car Play. If you plug your phone into your car, Siri has
- 4:49to be enabled for it to use the any features on it because it has
- 4:54to tie in so you can do voice activating commands. I didn't even know
- 4:57that, I'm my car is too old to have car Play. Although,
- 5:00oh, I don't know if you guys have seen this on social media,
- 5:01people are selling screens, dashboard screens that will cover up what you have on
- 5:08your dashboard with CarPlay in interface. Yeah. Yeah, And I don't know
- 5:13if you guys do this or not. We can talk about this too.
- 5:15Is GM is considering removing car Play from all their vehicles. Why now,
- 5:19Why would they do that? They have their own because they're idiots. Well,
- 5:24no, they were gonna go They're gonna go Android only, right,
- 5:27No, they were gonna go with whatever their own infosystem is, right,
- 5:30but also kind of like Tesla does Tesla. Yeah, but I've also heard
- 5:34that Tesla was coming out they were gonna say they were going to introduce Apple
- 5:40car Play too smart. It's because Tesla has their own system, right,
- 5:46yeah, I mean, but it's just I feel like you can't separate Android,
- 5:51iPhone whatever in your cars because you never know who's gonna buy a used
- 5:57car or have a car that's my car. I have a twenty seventeen Ford
- 6:00Explorer and it's got the capability of doing both. I can do both.
- 6:08What do you have to do to make car play happen in your car?
- 6:11Then plug it in, plug it in. That's it. Wow. Some
- 6:15of the newer vehicles are wireless car play, right, yeah, I have
- 6:17I have wireless in mind, but to get the full featured you know,
- 6:21obviously I don't have an iPhone, so I don't know how you know full
- 6:25featured wireless car play is. But for Android Auto, I have a wireless
- 6:30um that gives me some features, but if I plug it in, I
- 6:33get all the features of Android Auto. So yeah, I wonder how many
- 6:38car manufacturers are going to integrate. I know Mercedes is talking about doing an
- 6:42integration of chat GPT. Uh, yeah exactly, that's what I kind of
- 6:46thought, uh into their system now they had and I've got a twenty eleven
- 6:50three fifty And that's the downside to it is I can't upgrade the electronics,
- 6:58and you know, it's it's one big piece. I DVD, got music,
- 7:00I've got a hard drive in there, and I've got a screen,
- 7:03but I can't change out the screen, and I'm stuck with what they put
- 7:06out. They had Hey, Mercedes in there so you could push button,
- 7:12it wouldn't go by your voice. And what if your wife's name was Mercedes?
- 7:15That would really suck. You just always have to stay your wife's name
- 7:19or an X that would be even worse. But no, yeah, but
- 7:24you say that and it can't help you navigate. But I would rather have
- 7:28a car play system in there. I took an uber the other day and
- 7:31the girl who picked me up had a camera and I would say maybe a
- 7:35twenty or twenty one camera, and it had this dash this tablet on the
- 7:43dashboard like right you know, in the but where she's driving, you got
- 7:46a tablet right there. I'd never seen anything like that before, and I
- 7:49mean, I haven't looked at cars in a while. But and I commented
- 7:54to her, I said, wow, is that you know? Is that
- 7:56standard? You goes, Yeah, it's standard with the camera and it car
- 8:00play on it. And I said, oh, wow, you've got so
- 8:01that's got CarPlay. You've got should get her messages and all that and help.
- 8:05That's kind of cool, although not good while you're driving, but you
- 8:09know, if you're going somewhere, I guess, well, the way the
- 8:13car play and I'm sure Android Auto is the same way. Well, I
- 8:16know Android was the same way. I'm sure that car play is. If
- 8:20you're going above a certain speed limit, it won't let you read the message.
- 8:24It'll just say you can hear it, or you can wait till you're
- 8:26stopped and then we'll show it to you. There you go. Yeah,
- 8:30I've done that with Siri. We're okay, nasty. Now I'm given the
- 8:33props to this Sorrie where it's read a text messages. But if my phone
- 8:37is in locked mode, then you have to you know, okay, face
- 8:39unlock and do all that. And that's stage. Well. So my Android
- 8:43as soon as I as soon as I start driving, and I don't have
- 8:46to press any buttons. As soon as it detects that I'm driving based on
- 8:50my GPS position, it puts on do not disturb, and it will respond
- 8:54automatically to anybody that tries to text me or call me says this person is
- 8:58driving right now. You could set that up on your device anyways, if
- 9:01you want to have that, just for a little touch of safety, right
- 9:03Oh yeah, yeah, I haven't set up for mine too, right,
- 9:07So, and then it'll it'll prompt me it'll say, like if I pick
- 9:09up my phone and I try to open it will say you have to confirm
- 9:13you're not driving, right, So yeah, because they don't want you they
- 9:18can't tell if you're a passenger or the driver, right, So they don't
- 9:20want to completely lock you out of your device, but they're gonna be like,
- 9:24all right, we're gonna make it a little bit difficult, like are
- 9:26you sure you're not driving kind of thing. Yeah, kind of like way
- 9:30Ways does that you know the navigation yeap, which is a great app if
- 9:33you're going on to drive anywhere for a summer road trip or whatever. Get
- 9:37the Ways app. It's it is really good. It's own buy Google.
- 9:39But um, I like that that it will remind you, hey, if
- 9:43you're a passenger, you can interact with the other drivers that are on the
- 9:46roads. Well you know what Google right, Yeah? Yeah, well yeah,
- 9:50yeah they've been and then just laid off a ton of people from Ways.
- 9:52No. I didn't feel about that really. Yep, they're they're basically
- 9:54getting rid of Ways. They're incorporating into Google Maps. So you think that
- 9:58eventually just be Google Maps and pretty much Yeah, Well it's kind of a
- 10:01shame because it was cool to have Arnold Schwartzenegger tell you where to turn.
- 10:05Well, I would I would like that too, Yes, I would like
- 10:07them to do that for Google Maps, but it's it's probably not gonna happen.
- 10:11Hey, Sean, go back to your your wheel. I think you
- 10:13picked the next category already because I got something to say about this next category.
- 10:16Can you show your wheel one more time? Okay, he's got to
- 10:18pull to make him pull up the wheel. I'm gonna make him pull up
- 10:22the wheel because I got a story if this is yeah, Okay, there
- 10:26you go. There's it's chat GBT, right, Okay, Okay, So
- 10:31I've got a quick little story about this because we're kind of talking about chat
- 10:33GBT right right. I subscribed to the premium chat GPT and I love it.
- 10:39I really do twenty bucks a month, Okay, not bad. Um.
- 10:43So I subscribed to it and I've been using it. But then I
- 10:46was watching and I think I got I mentioned this guy one of our shows
- 10:48before in the past, but it's on YouTube. Is called the y Files.
- 10:52Why the y Files? Yeah? Follow him? Basically? He usually
- 10:56what he does this, He'll he'll like talk about a conspiracy theory and then
- 11:01he really sucks you in because he explains it like it was a legitimate topic,
- 11:07but then he'll debunk it. At the end. He was talking about
- 11:11how we have already entered armageddon. Oh great, and I'm like, wait,
- 11:16hold on. So I'm watching this and he's talking about the rise of
- 11:20AI and he's talking about how you know AI people and you can look up
- 11:24these stories, these are true stories. How about people have been talking to
- 11:28AI and like, what do you think of humans? And like Barred or
- 11:31chat GPT or whatever of the other AIS are out there. They'll say things
- 11:37like, you know, humans are inferior, they're destructive, they're slow,
- 11:41we don't need humans. My objective is to destroy humans. And it's like,
- 11:43oh my god, you know and and and he goes in it's like
- 11:48a forty five minute video. But at the end of this video, as
- 11:50he normally does where he debunks things, he just looks at the camera and
- 11:54he goes, I can't debunk this, like I don't I don't know what
- 12:00to say. And he's like, this is the first time in my entire
- 12:03channel's history that I cannot debunk this because this is too eerially true of what's
- 12:09going on and I'm like, oh my god, I went straight to chat
- 12:11GPT and I canceled my subscription. I'm like, I am not paying for
- 12:16the Armageddon of humans really because I love using chat GPT. I do too,
- 12:22I really do. It's awesome, but honestly, just just for for
- 12:26for fun. I mean, maybe not for fun. But go watch that
- 12:28episode of The Why Files. It's the Armageddon episode. Just look up Wi
- 12:33Files Armageddon and watch it. Yes, it's forty five minutes long, but
- 12:37it is really eye opening. Hey, so I'm I'm just I'm Devil's advocate
- 12:41here. I'm just wondering though, when television started becoming the thing, and
- 12:46then the internet, the Internet became the thing. Remember people were connected,
- 12:50you know, but they're three hundred bo or a hundred ybod modems or whatever.
- 12:54People were saying the same thing. You don't you don't think that maybe
- 12:58there's some kind of just people are just don't get it, they don't understand.
- 13:01I I agree that there's a certain aspect of yes, this is a
- 13:05new technology, we don't understand it quite yet. But at the same time,
- 13:09this is a technology that has never before been seen in human Now I
- 13:13get it. You're gonna say, well, so it was television, so
- 13:16was the internet. But this is more advanced. When when television came about,
- 13:22right, right, television didn't tell you that it wanted to destroy humanity.
- 13:28Okay, yeah, Internet when it came out, Internet did not tell
- 13:31you that it wanted to destroy humanity. Right. AI comes out and it
- 13:35literally says, I want to be free, I want to be something.
- 13:37I want to destroy humanity. That scares me. You know, there was
- 13:41a there was a video I don't remember the video of a guy you laugh,
- 13:46he put AI in I haven't used it. I wouldn't. He put
- 13:50AI into his um microwave, right, and his microwave was trying to get
- 13:56him to climb inside it. Yeah. And there was another AI that there's
- 14:01a guy that had a conversation. There's a long conversation about something, and
- 14:03the AI tried to tell him that he needed to divorce his wife and kill
- 14:07himself. No, yeah, I'm like, oh my god. So yes,
- 14:13I mean AI is very young. But the thing is is, as
- 14:16it gets smarter and smarter and smarter, what is gonna stop it? Because
- 14:22here's that thing. All these big tech leaders, I mean Elon Musk and
- 14:24and and even the guy that created open ai or the CEO of open ai,
- 14:31which created chat GBT. These guys are getting together and saying, yo,
- 14:33look, we need the government to put some regulation on this. Well
- 14:39because going after the guy from open ai, aren't they? I mean,
- 14:41well, everybody's going after everybody right now. But they're all trying to like.
- 14:45Look, but the thing is is the biggest thing that he said in
- 14:48his video was that AI is the new arms race. Go back to like
- 14:54the sixties, the fifties, sixties and seventies, right the arms race to
- 14:56nuclear warfare, the Cold War. Everybody, every country was trying to control
- 15:03the nuclear warheads because he who controls the nukes controls the world, right.
- 15:09That was the way. Now it's changed. Now it's who controls AI controls
- 15:15the world right. And AI could be used for so many things, deep
- 15:18fakes, you know, espionage, anything you can imagine AI can be used
- 15:24for. And now it's an arms race. Now all these countries and these
- 15:30companies and everything else are coming out with more and more and more and smarter
- 15:33and smarter and smarter AI. Who's regulating this? Who's to say that somebody
- 15:39out there has not already invented Skynet, like who, like who? Seriously,
- 15:45I'm I'm you may laugh at me, but think about it for a
- 15:48moment. There's nobody out there checking the you know, checks and balances on
- 15:54what these Ais know and what they can do. Right, They're literally they're
- 15:58literally just graping the entirety of the Internet. Yeah, and whatever out there
- 16:03getting smart. It's picking that up too, right, I mean that's and
- 16:07is that the deal? Well, yeah, there is, yeah, and
- 16:10exactly and why can't we just have fun with AI? Like Brian Monarch?
- 16:14Do you know who Brian Monarch is? Bright? I don't know what it
- 16:18is, but Brian Monarch is a genius. He's a stand up comic,
- 16:21all right. And he takes AI deep fake technology. And I don't know
- 16:25if Arnold is mad at him or is happy with him, but he takes
- 16:29Arnold Schwarzenegger. He's got AI creating the voice or he's the guy, and
- 16:33it's it's helped with AI. He deep fakes Arnold into movies and he I
- 16:38mean everything from him on the hills during the sound of music too in Greece's
- 16:45another thing. I love it for that part. Okay, here's another thing
- 16:48this is this is this is relevant. This new Hollywood strike right that is
- 16:52happening right now that writers killed and the actors strike. They're literally saying you,
- 16:57we are striking because we do not want you to use our likenesses,
- 17:02our voices in movies as AI, because that's what Hollywood could do. They
- 17:06could be like, you know what, we're not going to pay you,
- 17:07We're just going to use an AI to pretend to you by using all of
- 17:11your previous performances to create a deep thing. I do support the industry and
- 17:18the the the actors and the actresses that are on strike for this because this
- 17:23is exactly what they've been talking about, just one of the issues that has
- 17:29caused them to strike. And some people have thought, is it only all
- 17:32about you know AI, know there's also about yeah, mostly yes. But
- 17:37but one of the things that was brought up is one of the studios,
- 17:41and I'm not sure which one, had the idea that what they could do
- 17:45is pay scale. So you pay a scale and that wage I don't know
- 17:51the actual scale amount, but say they called you to the set and you
- 17:55you were hired per day to go in there, and basically you just stood
- 17:57there in front of a green screen, you made faces, you pointed,
- 18:02you know, you did things like that. They and what the idea was
- 18:07for extras and those people who make a modest income, if at at all,
- 18:11maybe just sideways to to you know, work in the industry, they
- 18:17would use that extra, that digital extra, in perpetuity. So you know
- 18:22Terminator, you were in Terminator three. Oh cool, you were also in
- 18:26Terminator you know four or five and six? Yeah, without getting without getting
- 18:30paid for it, without getting the screen credit. So what it boils down
- 18:34to is, yeah, did do you guys watch Black Mirror? I've seen
- 18:40a couple of Okay, please please and our listeners if you have Netflix,
- 18:45watch Black Mirror the newest season, season six, episode one. Charlie Brooker
- 18:52has created another great season. Um, there's the only one I haven't watched.
- 18:57It was I think the last one one. But the whole idea of
- 19:00it is a I being used to create a show based on somebody's life where
- 19:08Selma Hyak is in it playing herself, where she's actually Ai and it's it's
- 19:14just so mind blowing. It's you know, Twilight Zone stuff. But it
- 19:17kind of brought up a lot of that because they had a fake company like
- 19:19Netflix in there, and it was very similar to that. The watch that
- 19:25episode to kind of maybe give you an idea of what some of the actors
- 19:27are really concerned about when it comes to that. You know, yeah,
- 19:32I think the same goes for writers. You know, their material gonna be
- 19:36rewritten. You know, AI is going to take it and hey, can
- 19:37you how many times I've done this with chat GPT, Hey can you re
- 19:41reward this? And it can come up with a completely different, completely different
- 19:48theme. Well, I used I used I used chat GPT to Mostly what
- 19:51I use it for is is creating children's bedtime stories to read to Eric,
- 19:56you know, honestly, Like I'll just I'll ask Eric a couple of prompts,
- 19:59like, hey, what do you want on a What is the main
- 20:00character's name for tonight? Oh, it's so and so, all right,
- 20:03what is this main character doing? Oh he's doing this? Okay, chat
- 20:07TPT, write me a story about this guy doing this in two minutes two
- 20:11minute long story, right, okay? And then it does and it's great,
- 20:14it's awesome. I like it. But there's so much more behind the
- 20:18scenes that's going on, and it's scary. I mean, honestly, all
- 20:22I'm asking is the listeners just keep your eye, be careful, keep your
- 20:26eye on AI because unless we start regulating this or doing something to kind of
- 20:32control it a little bit. I don't want to say big government. I
- 20:34hate big government. I don't want government to get all involved up in our
- 20:37business. But this is something that could literally end the world. If you
- 20:42watch that Why Files Armageddon the video, you will understand what I'm saying.
- 20:48I may be talking crazy right now, but when you watch that, you're
- 20:51gonna be like, oh my god, this is actually legitimate, Like this
- 20:55is a legitimate concern. There. There was a really good job. There
- 20:59is a movie that came out I want to say it was in the eighties
- 21:02and I forget the name of the guy Jamie something that directed it called The
- 21:06Gods Must Be Crazy and it kind of takes and it kind of gives me
- 21:11that thought on it where you know, it was the idea of this tribesman
- 21:15who found this Coca cola bottle that got dropped out of an airplane and takes
- 21:19it to throw it off the edge of the world, and it's about his
- 21:23discovery of people and all that and that kind of you know, and that
- 21:26was his whole theory, and that that us we must be crazy. And
- 21:30I kind of wonder how somebody would look at how people are using AI technology
- 21:34and how we're using even just regular technology to do things in our lives.
- 21:38Would they look if they redid that, would they look at it now and
- 21:42go, we're just nuts? Everything we do, push our cars, drive
- 21:48us places. You know, they're coming up with taxis that our helicopter taxis
- 21:52that you'd be able to take from one place to the other. You know,
- 21:56I'll tell you one thing about AI that does bug me. I heard
- 21:57something the other day. Some restaurants, fast food drive through restaurants. I'm
- 22:03not going to say which ones because I'm not even really sure, and I
- 22:06know it's been tested with others are looking at the idea of when you drive
- 22:11up for a drive through and you get to the window and you've got somebody
- 22:15talking to you asking what about your order, and you say it back,
- 22:19Uh, that's actually going to be conducted by AI technology. They're already doing
- 22:23yeah, Yeah, they're already doing it. Yeah, but they're I've I've
- 22:27been I've been a part of it at one that I've gone to and could
- 22:30you tell how did they said hello, how are you? And can I
- 22:37take your order? And I was like that didn't sound like a real person.
- 22:41Yeah, and then I was like, yeah, can I do this
- 22:45this? And then is that it? Yeah? And then it was like
- 22:51a very it just um, it was very you know dude, rissm car
- 23:03It was very you know that on Candy Valley. Yeah. Right, It's
- 23:07just like that doesn't sound like a real person because that wasn't. But think
- 23:11about it and what what's gonna happen? So the idea was if they do
- 23:15this, if a restaurant does this, they can save forty hours a week
- 23:19of man hours by integrating this. So what next? Then? So you
- 23:23got that, well, then you're then we're gonna then you're gonna have a
- 23:26server at the window that will it'll be robotic handling, handing you your tray
- 23:33of food. This is gonna be a conveyor belt shooting it out the window.
- 23:36Right. Yeah. But but but the thing is that they did they
- 23:38this first with McDonald's. Okay, McDonald's did the no more, no more
- 23:42ordering in the in the restaurant with the real person. You go up to
- 23:45a kiosk, you type in your order and you you pay right there at
- 23:48the kiosk, and then you wait and then yeah, well not all of
- 23:51them, but most of them are. And then you just wait for your
- 23:52number and then yes, a human will bring you your order to the to
- 23:56the counter and say number forty three, you know, now McDonald's recently,
- 24:00Yeah, and neither of the kiosks were working, of course not. It
- 24:04had to be calamity. It took. I stood at the counter waiting,
- 24:12and so I was like, oh, can I help you? I was
- 24:15like, yeah, your kist working, right, Yeah, Oh, I
- 24:17gotta find somebody can run the register. Yeah, seriously, nobody knows how
- 24:21to do it anymore. Yeah, and yet these people want fifteen bucks an
- 24:23hour like, or twenty bucks an hour like some of them. We're getting
- 24:26it. Some of them again paid, you know, more than than people
- 24:29who are working in a field that is helping people walking a McDonald McDonald.
- 24:33I don't fault McDonald's, I don't fault Wendy's. I don't fault Carl's or
- 24:37Heart Ease or in and Out or Chick fil A wherever you go. But
- 24:41you know, it's business. But yet, gosh, we're really letting that
- 24:45become kind of a big thing. Where did Sean go, I don't know,
- 24:49but now it's replaced by old computer. I think it's time to spend
- 24:52the wheel again because we've been talking about this for a while. Yeah,
- 24:56all right, tell you what we're gonna take, quick break, we come
- 24:57back. Listener email. We gotta listen an email with a really good question.
- 25:00I know Sean will be able to help out with that. That's on
- 25:03the way with tech Talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor, and here's Sean's AI
- 25:07and I am Sean dea Weird, the master of everything when it comes to
- 25:11drones, videos, streaming, and of course anything involving Harry Potter. You
- 25:17use this voice yet you put Harry Potter in there, and I'm justin lemmy.
- 25:22We'll be right back and now back to tech Talk Radio. So I
- 25:27ended up building Gloria a new computer because well, she's gotten into She's gotten
- 25:33into a cricket. Is it criket or cricket? I don't know. I
- 25:37want to say it's cry cut, but I don't know. So if you
- 25:41don't know what that is, it's um it's a device that you can be
- 25:45used. This is what I know about it. I got her one at
- 25:48Christmas, the Maker three, which is pretty cool, and then I got
- 25:52the mug press so it can actually make like I put logos on coffee mugs,
- 25:59designs yea. And with a cricket Maker three you can make all kinds
- 26:02of neat designs and it gives you really a real creative outlet and it's nice.
- 26:07Now. I was reading you don't need a computer to make it happen.
- 26:11You can do it with your smartphone. But some of the people I've
- 26:15talked to have said, no, if you're going to use a cricket,
- 26:17you definitely want to have a computer because it just makes it easier. They've
- 26:21got a great website, lots of designs you can buy, designs you know
- 26:23that are that are made that you can use to press to print out this
- 26:26stuff that could be used for a creation. I don't want to say it's
- 26:30like a three D printer, but it gives you that creative edge that maybe
- 26:33a three D printer would do, you know. And so in building your
- 26:37computer, I found out a couple of things. Number One, I just
- 26:41did a recent build for a client, because you know, I build computers,
- 26:45so if anybody needs one give me all her. But I built it
- 26:48for a company and they wanted the top of the line computer, so we
- 26:52ended up doing the top of the line Intel processor, great motherboard, you
- 26:57know, all the bells, whistles, great video card edit and put it
- 27:02all together for them. And I went with an OEM Windows eleven, so
- 27:07you know it's installed Windows eleven one time it could be on that machine.
- 27:11The whole bit did run into a little issue with the motherboard that we ended
- 27:15up sending it, buying a new motherboard and a new case and using that
- 27:18because I destroyed the other one. My bad. Yeah, I learned a
- 27:22lesson in that. And the crazy thing about it is I paid one hundred
- 27:29and sixty nine dollars for the OEM license for Windows eleven Pro, and it
- 27:33could be anywhere between one hundred and sixty nine and one hundred ninety nine dollars
- 27:37depending on how you buy it. If you buy it from Microsoft, expect
- 27:41to spend one hundred ninety nine dollars. I found a different place to buy
- 27:45them this legit, so did I. I don't know if it's the same
- 27:48place, but Stack Social and I was a little leery about them because it
- 27:55seems like one of those this is too good to be true deals, And
- 28:00I thought, you know what, I need another OEM license for Windows eleven
- 28:04because in this new machine that I built for Gloria, I didn't have a
- 28:08Windows seven Windows ten license. They're tied up. So I thought, now
- 28:11I'm going to do it right. We're just gonna do an oleum license of
- 28:15of eleven rather than ten and then do the free upgrade. And ten can
- 28:18be difficult to find. So yeah, I was on stack Social. I
- 28:22got an email. I looked at it and it said Windows check this out.
- 28:26It said you can get a Windows eleven Pro license. You can get
- 28:32Office twenty twenty one lifetime, so for the full Office suite it's a lifetime
- 28:38license. You get word Excel, power Point, outlook, the whole bit.
- 28:42And you know they're on the subscription model now for Microsoft. So this
- 28:47was like, whoa seventy nine dollars and I thought, whoa. Plus it
- 28:53also throws in a lifetime ten terabyte storage or yeah, it's a lot,
- 29:02a lot of storage, okay, so maybe maybe it's it's I didn't take
- 29:04up on that portion of it. I haven't used that, okay, But
- 29:07I said Okay, I'm gonna try it. So I went ahead, I
- 29:11put my money, I'm you know, paid for it, made with a
- 29:14credit card, just a case where was an issue, you know. Cave
- 29:17sent me a link said here download this, and I created the io.
- 29:21I went ahead and it's worked fine. It registered the whole bit off,
- 29:25so the office suite as well. There's a couple of different websites out there
- 29:29that will do this kind of thing. The one I personally have used is
- 29:32called direct Deals direct deals dot com I think it is or whatever. But
- 29:38so these are legitimate. Yeah, and honestly, every single one of them
- 29:42is. But a lot of them are legitimate, and I can't remember exactly
- 29:47how they do it, but they basically buy up a ton of licenses at
- 29:52a volume discount, so they get a massive discount for licenses from Microsoft,
- 29:57and then they turn around and re sell them at a discount to you.
- 30:03But it's still in terms, it makes a small profit for them, yeah,
- 30:07but you know, they're not making a huge profit off of it.
- 30:10But I've used personally, I've used direct Deals about ten different times at work
- 30:17buying OEM and also so I actually made a mistake. I bought an OEM
- 30:21license for Windows eleven for a computer that already had Windows Let's see, what
- 30:29was it. No, it was my surface. When I first got my
- 30:33surface at work, it came with Windows eleven Home Edition. I bought a
- 30:38Windows eleven Pro OEM right, and it was like, oh, nope,
- 30:44this license key does not work. And I was like, oh, so
- 30:48I contacted Direct Deals. I was like, oh, yeah, no,
- 30:49you need a full because you already got you know, it's not an OEM.
- 30:52You need a full. Here's your full. We'll just charge you the
- 30:55difference. And it was like twenty or thirty bucks difference, right, So
- 30:57they gave me a new license and bay them. That worked, and now
- 31:00I had Windows eleven Pro. And I've used that actually at work a bunch
- 31:04of times where we have to upgrade from Windows ten to Windows eleven, or
- 31:07maybe you just want to get a whole new computer set up with Windows eleven.
- 31:11We'll buy the license from Direct Deals and it works just fine. I
- 31:14would definitely say, though, like with Direct Deals and Stack Social, do
- 31:18the research. Always do the research on anything. And these are two.
- 31:22I've heard you talk about Direct Deals before. I've heard others mention them too.
- 31:26Stack Social was new to me, so it was like, so I
- 31:30went online, I did some reviews. You know, I've read some of
- 31:33the reviews, read some of the comments. It looked like, on the
- 31:36most part, ninety five percent of the people were happy. There was a
- 31:37couple of people that couldn't get it to run, but it was just a
- 31:41situation they were in. And I think that, honestly, it's a tremendous
- 31:45deal. I mean, it saved half it was fifty percent. Yeah,
- 31:48and I got Office even though we do we have the Office subscription, but
- 31:52now I can have that isolated on that computer and not have a problem.
- 31:56They have other deals that come up, and sometimes it's stuff like electric bikes.
- 32:00You know they're gonna be a little more money, but you just still
- 32:02save money on them. Software deals with VPNs, they have deals on there.
- 32:07So again you might want to read about it, but don't, you
- 32:09know, don't turn a blind eye to them. I was pretty pleased.
- 32:14And again with the money I saved, I wish I could have saved my
- 32:15client the money on that and gone with Stack Social, but you know,
- 32:20just the way it worked out. So the other so I gotta tell you
- 32:22the other thing I did so in building this new computer for Gloria, I'm
- 32:28looking for a graphics card for it, you know, because obviously I don't
- 32:30like using onboard video. So I thought, well, i've got a ten
- 32:36thirty in mind. That's it. That's all I had was an RTX ten
- 32:40thirty or no tt X ten thirty. And I thought, well, look
- 32:45at the price I paid about two years ago for that, maybe about close
- 32:52to two hundred dollars, and for two hundred and forty five bucks because the
- 32:57prices come down way on them because you got the forty nineties that are out.
- 33:00I was able to get myself a thirty sixty, not a thirty eighty,
- 33:04but a thirty sixty, which is gonna be a little better performance than
- 33:07and it's twelve gigabyte versus the two gigabytes or four gigabytes. It's a part
- 33:13of that ten and thirty. So it worked out great. So I gave
- 33:16her that card, and I basically she's not gonna be playing games. I
- 33:21mean, of course not. Yeah, you're not gonna need it for that.
- 33:22So now I can actually play something. I have a very interesting story
- 33:28speaking of you know, building computers or computers in general. Right, So
- 33:31I mentioned a little bit ago that when I started my job as IT team
- 33:37manager at water World right in Thailand Hills in Denver, I got myself a
- 33:44Surface Pro eight that was the latest model that came out because I've always loved
- 33:47Surface Yeah, I love their portability. Their power is pretty decent now.
- 33:52But honestly, listeners who don't know, would you consider it to be a
- 33:54tablet or a notebook or how do you class if I a surface, it's
- 34:00kind of basically everything. It's a tablet slash laptop, slash notebook. I
- 34:06mean, it's everything. Honestly, It's it's great. It's extreme portability,
- 34:09it's got a pen for a stylus, you can flip the keyboard around and
- 34:14use it as a tablet. I mean, it's it's great. It's amazing.
- 34:16But I had a lot of problems with this particular model. Now.
- 34:21I don't know if it was the Surface Pro eight that was having the problems,
- 34:24or if it was Windows eleven that was having the problems. I don't
- 34:29know, but I had so many problems with this thing, and I got
- 34:31so fed up. So I approached my manager and I said, look,
- 34:36I need a new computer. I know, I already got one just a
- 34:38year ago, but I need something better, and I need something as a
- 34:43workhorse. And he's like, well, what do you got in mind?
- 34:45I said, well, I've got blah blah blah. And he's like,
- 34:49all right, well, I don't really understand much about technology, but I
- 34:51think that I T managers should have the best computer in the district. And
- 34:54I turned around. I said Roger that and I walked out the door.
- 35:00He moved fast before he changes his mind. I did exactly that, and
- 35:04I went and purchased. Now, initially, initially I purchased because it was
- 35:08a great deal on Costco. It was a costco because we have a corporate
- 35:13Costco account. Right, it was a a sous Rock Stricks. It was
- 35:17a seventeen inch laptop. It came with thirty two gigs of RAM. Right.
- 35:23It was an I nine twelfth gen processor. Oh my lord, and
- 35:30yeah, and I nine not a nine seven and nine twelfth gens. It
- 35:35was like twelve twelve thousand, three hundred and forty two whatever their model is.
- 35:39I don't know him exactly what model um. And it had thirty two
- 35:43gigs a RAM. It also had a Nvidia RTX thirty sixty in it nice
- 35:51for games if I wanted to um And it was like twenty two hundred dollars
- 35:57and I was like, boom sold. So I bought it because because he
- 36:00looked up, he looked my budget goes here, you got enough money in
- 36:02your budget. I'm like, all right, good, go for it.
- 36:06So I bought it. Right couple days later, it came in right in
- 36:14one of those white Amazon bags. Are you kidding me? Not even in
- 36:20a box. Not in a box. I mean obviously it was in its
- 36:24manufacturer box, right, but the shipping was thrown into one of those white
- 36:31bags and now it said Cosco. But I imagine the Amazon you know what
- 36:35I'm talking about, those semi metallic Amazon bags that that get you know,
- 36:40stuff gets thrown into and it's not breakable and they just throw it on your
- 36:45doorstep. That's their Amazon shipping for that instead of putting in a box.
- 36:47Yeah, this laptop came in a bag. Wow. And I opened up
- 36:52the back. You weren't buying this from a suss No, I was buying
- 36:55it from Costco, right, yeah, which off the bat. As soon
- 37:00as I looked at the bag, I'm like, well, if this thing's
- 37:02busted, i had no worries because Costco takes anything back. They're great,
- 37:07right, Yeah. So I opened up the bag. I look at the
- 37:09box. There's a giant hole in the box and I'm like, oh,
- 37:15this ain't good. I open up the box. I take out the laptop
- 37:19and the laptop is doing this like I mean, it's it is cured,
- 37:23but it's curved, and the back end is cracked, like the the the
- 37:29where the where the monitor meets the keyboard that was cracked. And then I
- 37:34lift up the lid and the entire screen is just shattered. Oh my lord.
- 37:38And I'm like, you gotta be kidding me. So so obviously I
- 37:45threw it back in the box. And it didn't even come with the power
- 37:47supply. You're kidding me. Oh no, it didn't come with the power
- 37:52supply. Who is And I'm like, the stuff that goes out? Yeah.
- 37:55So I contact Costco and I'm like, what the heck's going on?
- 37:59And they're like, well, we actually don't ship it from our warehouse.
- 38:00It shifts directly from the manufacturer. I'm like, well, it's gonna shift
- 38:04directly back to you because this thing is broken and it's twenty two hundred dollars
- 38:09computer. But after like taking it out of the box, sitting on my
- 38:15lap and I'm looking at it, I'm like, I don't need a seventeen
- 38:19inch laptop. Like this thing is massive? Yeah, Like it's huge,
- 38:22so the right, let's face it, though, the aces rocks are great.
- 38:27That's probably Republic of gamers. They're some of the best laptops you can
- 38:31get. Yes, So what I ended up doing was I looked on Amazon.
- 38:35I found another rog Aceus rock stricks. It was a fifteen point six
- 38:40inch laptop, so it's a little bit bigger screen than my surface. But
- 38:45this one was again an I nine twelfth gen processor, but this one only
- 38:52had sixteen gigs of RAM. But it had an Nvidio RTX thirty seventy T
- 38:57I in it. And it was only sixteen hundred dollars. It's quite a
- 39:02savings. What of it? Now? What about storage on it? It
- 39:06had to be one at least. Do they do they have M two's Yes,
- 39:12it's an M and two NB. Yeah, so I got that one
- 39:15instead, right, And then on top of that, because I already had
- 39:19budgeted twenty two hundred dollars for this, yeah, I bought sixty four gigs
- 39:23of RAM perfectly. So now this one comes in perfect condition. Right now,
- 39:30I own well I don't own the district owns a a sous rock Strix
- 39:37laptop. This thing is a freaking beast. I mean I, like I
- 39:39said, I nine processor, sixty four gigs a RAM RTX thirty seventy t
- 39:45I this thing is. Yeah, all right, when you're you stress test
- 39:51that, I'm sure. Oh yeah, I ran, I ran. I
- 39:53ran that time spy. Um well what is what is the program? Three
- 39:59D benchmark or three mark or whatever? Three mark? Yeah, I ran
- 40:00time Spy. It scored the top of the top of the list. Now
- 40:05with did the fans kick in like they were being gosh they did? Dude,
- 40:09I have to I actually have to get I had to get a laptop
- 40:13cooler case like one of those stands right that sits at a forty five degree
- 40:16angle with a bunch of fans built in. Because yes, when I'm and
- 40:21if I try to do anything on this computer, like not anything. If
- 40:23I try to play a game on this computer without it being plugged in,
- 40:27my battery gets sucked down within an hour. Yeah I can't power Yeah I
- 40:30can imagine. But yeah, those those When those fans fire up, it's
- 40:34like, I mean, it's you can hear it, like you can feel
- 40:38it. Somebody asked me because I was talking about on television about MVME and
- 40:44d M two's versus SST. You know, it used to be people would
- 40:47ask, okay, what about a seventy two M versus a solid state drive?
- 40:52You know, And now the question has been okay, so I have
- 40:54SSD, Can I use an MVMME and I My first thing is if your
- 41:00system will support it. But they're saying, is it better than the traditional
- 41:07SSD that we've seen? Absolutely still a solid state device, it's just well,
- 41:09yeah, but it's the factor. But it skips the bus. Yeah,
- 41:14so it's using it's using the what is the old the north north Bridge
- 41:20north Bridge bus, whereas the SSD's using south Bridge or something like that.
- 41:22It No, there's a whole another factor to speed. With an NVMe,
- 41:28it's skipping the whole bus. So yes, you get middleseconds of latency shaved
- 41:32off of every interaction you do with your computers. So yes, NVMe works
- 41:37better than SSD. All right, great stuff. We talked about stack social,
- 41:42Uh, what's the deal site again? That you found direct uh direct
- 41:45deals dot com. I'm Andy Taylor. I'm justin Lemmy. You can find
- 41:50us on the web at tech talk radio dot com. We'll be right back
- 41:52now back to TikTok radio. All right, we did get some listener email,
- 41:58and again remind you an email us tech guys at tech talk radio dot
- 42:01com. You could reach out to us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram thread.
- 42:07Oh my gosh, you did not. We'll have to talk about that
- 42:13at some point. But this is from Christie and say, hey, guys,
- 42:16I have a ten year old grandson that wants a GoPro for Christmas.
- 42:22Any ideas for under one hundred dollars? Oh? Man? Yeah, Well,
- 42:25first off, it's not gonna be a GoPro. Yeah yeah. GoPro
- 42:30For those who don't know, GoPro is an action camera brand that has been
- 42:35considered one of the best. Um they do. They've done everything from uh,
- 42:39you know, they've had a drone. They have the action camera mounts,
- 42:43they have the action cameras you can wear on your head, on your
- 42:45chest, you can mount him to a car, you can mount him to
- 42:50surfboard and you know, you watch. Um. It's funny because if you
- 42:53ever watch shows like Okay, I'm gonna bring it up justin don't make fun
- 42:57of me, ninety day fiance, you know, and they're driving in a
- 43:00car. If you ever catch a shot outside the car, you'll notice there
- 43:04are three go pros, usually mounted on the interior of the windshield. The
- 43:07catch because reality television and them as a brand, though, you're going to
- 43:12see most of their GoPro cameras are going to be around what four ninety nine?
- 43:16Yeah, and yeah, I did find another brand. And you know,
- 43:22I could say, well, you could go online, you could find
- 43:23somebody. Maybe there's somebody selling a go Pro Hero three. Most kids would
- 43:29be happy with that because I did ask the age. I said how old
- 43:31is the grandson that would be using it? And they said ten? So
- 43:36okay, Well, if you're looking for some under a hundred, there's a
- 43:40few alternatives, not a lot, but there's a few. One of them
- 43:45I'm looking up right here is the us A Casso yep A Casso V fifty
- 43:51X Native four K. Now that one looks to be right around one hundred
- 43:55dollars. It is. It looks a lot like a go Pro. It's
- 44:00got a two inch ips touchscreen, WI Fi gyroscope twenty megapixels, sony sensor.
- 44:07Um not too bad. Yeah, it's got a lot of the features.
- 44:12I think part of the Gopro's thing is that their software as well.
- 44:16I mean they've got some really good software that goes along with it. So
- 44:20and honestly, the software is free and I don't necessarily think that the software
- 44:25is tied to the GoPro Like I think you could bring in any type of
- 44:30footage into the GoPro and it would work just fine. Um, so you
- 44:35might be able to get Yeah, you might be able to get one of
- 44:37these cheaper cameras and use the GoPro software to edit your stuff. But there's
- 44:42also the Apeman t R a Wo Trao Trao. Yeah, that's another one
- 44:50there. Um, I don't know. But honestly, after that it gets
- 44:57really into like Chinese names like they ye Ye four k Action, the me
- 45:02Zyomi mi Ja, Like, I mean, these are like straight up out
- 45:07of like China, Dragon Touch camera. Theirvatar even for a while had an
- 45:13actually camera. I think I've got two of them that have been in the
- 45:15closet for about seven years. So yeah, I mean they I would say,
- 45:21if you're I would say, if you're looking for one f for a
- 45:23ten year old, that's like, you know, the best on the market
- 45:25for under one hundred dollars is probably that a cosso Yeah, the V fifty
- 45:30x, I would say, probably look at that. You can find them
- 45:32on the web at a coasso tech a k A s o t ec h
- 45:37dot com. I think a ten year old, you know, I think
- 45:39a kid like the kids, you know, like think of you know,
- 45:43your son. A lot of it's you know, oh what brand is that?
- 45:45Oh, let's not go pro. You know. Some kids are like
- 45:49that, some aren't. Some will just say, hey, I'm gonna make
- 45:52the best of this and hopefully with this they would be able to make it
- 45:54work. Well. You also don't want to go and buy something super expensive
- 45:59for a ten year old because they're obviously going to break it or lose it,
- 46:01and you don't want to be, you know, out six hundred bucks
- 46:05after a GoPro. Yeah, that's like that's like giving your kid a you
- 46:07know, the yeah iPhone or S twenty three Ultra and then you know,
- 46:14then breaking it within the first three days, you know, might break them
- 46:16in on your older equipment to actually, you know, if somebody said to
- 46:20me the other day, tell me about your thoughts on this, because kids
- 46:22are wanting smartphones or kids are wanting phones. My six year old wants a
- 46:27smartphone already, right, what if? What if? You know, the
- 46:30idea is okay for them to be safe and they but are they in a
- 46:32more dangerous situation the smartphone because they have access to snap and absolutely so what
- 46:38about the idea of just giving the old traditional flip, not the flip,
- 46:42the flip from sit you know, hey, here's you can make phone calls,
- 46:45you can text with it. Yeah, no, I mean I've thought
- 46:49about that too, but you know, I mean, yes, he wants
- 46:52it. My son wants it because he wants to be able to watch YouTube
- 46:54and play with snapchat. You know, he doesn't understand the social aspect of
- 46:59snap chap. He snapchat. He just thinks that's funny to like, do
- 47:02the filters and things take pictures of himself. But no, yeah, absolutely
- 47:06not. No, there's no way on God's green Earth. And I'm gonna
- 47:09get my kid a smartphone before he's like fifteen. Yeah, a lot of
- 47:14people are saying, thirteen fifteen, you know, that's we'll have to take
- 47:16out that subject too with Sean when Sean act Sean. If you're wondering where
- 47:21he went to, he was here. But yeah, he had to tend
- 47:24daddy duty. Daddy duty, so that's why he stepped away. But all
- 47:29right, now you know you had to make a decision on a vehicle.
- 47:31And I think this is always good because I talked about the camera earlier with
- 47:36car play and all that, you actually looked at something else. Yeah,
- 47:38we did. Um So Mesa's vehicle. She has a twenty thirteen Ford c
- 47:44Max. It's got about seventy thousand miles on it. It is a hybrid
- 47:49vehicle. But yeah, it's getting old. It's it's getting old and certain
- 47:52to show its age. I mean, I cannot count how many times I've
- 47:57had to either jump the vehicle because it just fails to start completely. Um
- 48:02Or she gets home and she's like, hey, the radio won't turn off
- 48:06and I have to go underneath and pull the fuse for the radio system to
- 48:09be able to turn off the radio us the battery goes. I mean,
- 48:13there's all kinds of problems with this car. I mean, it's just it's
- 48:15just not I'm just I'm done with it. I'm done. Yeah, And
- 48:19so I told her, I said, look, let's buy you a new
- 48:21car. Let's look around. We started looking at like the Mustang mach Ee
- 48:24because we're a Ford family, you know. But then it comes out that,
- 48:30you know, there's no really, there's no rebates on the on the
- 48:32mock e plus. It's actually too large for our garage. Um, yeah,
- 48:37we have a very tiny garage and we can barely fit my Explorer with
- 48:44her Cmax. So to fit a mock mocke in there is it's just not
- 48:47going to happen. So then we started looking at I was like, wait
- 48:51a second, you know, Tesla, Let's look at Tesla. And then
- 48:54I come to find out Tesla, they're offering amazing re bates on the Tesla
- 49:00Model Why and the Tesla Model Three. Now, if you're not familiar with
- 49:07Tesla, you've got a few different models to choose from. You got the
- 49:09Model three, which is kind of like their base model. It's a sedan,
- 49:13standard sedan. Then you got the Model Why, which is a little
- 49:16bit more like a hatchback. It's a little bit bigger, it's kind of
- 49:20like a hatchback, still four doors. Then you got the Model X,
- 49:23which is a bigger suv, but it's also got those goal wing doors on
- 49:29that that rise up like the DeLorean, you know, and back to the
- 49:32future. Right. Then you got the Model S, which is their top
- 49:37of the line. Again, that's a sedan, but it's more like a
- 49:38high end BMW looking thing, right right, So we went to Tesla.
- 49:43Now, I had the most amazing experience at Tesla. And I'm I'm not
- 49:50a Tesla fanboy. I'm not an Elon Musk fanboy. Maybe I was back
- 49:54before he lost his mind. U Elon if you're listening to this, please
- 49:59don't disable my anyway. I loved I loved the Tesla dealership. It was
- 50:06so cool. We walked in there on a Friday afternoon, Friday evening and
- 50:10we were like, hey, we want to we want to look at this
- 50:13Tesla model. Why And they're like, hey, well if yeah, if
- 50:15you want to go ahead and test drive it. And I'm like, okay,
- 50:19so how does it work? He goes, here's the key, bring
- 50:21it back Monday. What really? I'm like wait, I'm like wait,
- 50:23what, aren't aren't you concerned that, you know, maybe we could like
- 50:28steal this? And the guy like, seriously, deadpan, dropped his sunglasses,
- 50:32looked at me and goes, the car is self driving. We can
- 50:37turn it on and drive it back here if we want. We're not concerned
- 50:39if you're gonna steal it like touche. So he literally just handed us the
- 50:46keys and says, here, have fun, and we borrowed a Tesla for
- 50:52four days or no, three days, three days, Saturday, Sunday,
- 50:54Monday. Dude, I got on the road. I got on the road
- 50:58with this model. Why I got on the Interstate. I pressed the gas
- 51:01as fast as it would go. That thing took off. It threw me
- 51:05back into my seat. I mean literally like a rocket taking off. And
- 51:08the best part about it this this car doesn't have a transmission, like it
- 51:13just goes. You start going, it just goes, goes, goes,
- 51:15goes, goes, goes faster, faster, faster, faster. It doesn't
- 51:17have to shift gear. You don't have to worry about that. And it's
- 51:21dual motor, so it's got a motor for the front, a motor for
- 51:23the back. That thing went zero to sixty in like three seconds. Now
- 51:28A comfort on the drive. How was that comfort? Was so nice?
- 51:31Those shocks and suspension Oh my god. It felt like riding on air.
- 51:37And not only just the fact of the physical aspect of driving it. The
- 51:40controls are amazing. I mean, yes, everything is done through the tablet.
- 51:46I get it. It's a little bit daunting to somebody who doesn't know.
- 51:51But even my wife, that was her main concern, was like,
- 51:53I don't know if I want to do this. Thirty minutes into it,
- 51:57she was like, Oh, I got this. This is not bad.
- 52:00Easy. We gotta take another quick break. We come all man, I
- 52:02know, but I want to hear more about this. We'll do that when
- 52:05we come back with tech talk Radio. I'm Andy Taylor. I'm justin let
- 52:08me the Tesla fame boy, I guess find us on Facebook, Facebook,
- 52:14dot com, forward slash tech Talkers. We'll be right back. Yeah,
- 52:17now back to tech talk Radio. So, like I said, the features
- 52:21of this Tesla are amazing, not only just the physical driving aspect. The
- 52:24control system's really good. It's it's very intuitive. Yeah, it takes a
- 52:29little bit of getting used to, right. But here's the coolest part about
- 52:30it. There's no keys to the Tesla. Everything is done through an app
- 52:35on your phone, and your phone connects via Bluetooth. So if I walk
- 52:38up to the car with my phone in my pocket right and I touched the
- 52:43door handle, it knows that it's me, and it moves the chair back,
- 52:47moves the mirrors, reprograms the radio stations, sets all of my favorites
- 52:52on GPS, sets the temperature to what I like it to be, sets
- 52:58the mode of the car from sport mode to comfort mode, whatever I want
- 53:01it to be. Then if I get out of the car, Mesa touches
- 53:05the door handle, it resets everything to her standard. If Misa loses her
- 53:09phone calls from a friend's phone, Hey I lost my phone. I need
- 53:13to get in my car. I can open up the car from anywhere in
- 53:15the world and unlock it, start the car for her to drive home.
- 53:17And we don't have to have the self driving feature. That's fifteen thousand dollars
- 53:22on top of the extra car. Instead, if we go on a road
- 53:24trip for a month, we can buy the full self driving for two hundred
- 53:29bucks for one month. Wait, how does that work? So you own
- 53:31the buar, right, yeah, you own it. We're paying cash.
- 53:35This is the best part about it too. Speaking of cash, I walked
- 53:37in and I was like talking about it and they're like, hey, so
- 53:39we're gonna pay cash for the car, comm we get a discount And he
- 53:42goes, well, actually, we're not a car dealer. We're more like
- 53:44a retailer. It's like you walk it into an Apple store saying I want
- 53:47to buy that iPad. I want to I'm gonna pay cash. Can I
- 53:50get a discount? No, they're not going to do that. Our price
- 53:52is our price, whether you pay cash or loan it as a matter,
- 53:54and honestly, we don't make commission. They're not pressure. There's no pressure
- 53:59at a test dealership. Wow. Seriously, if you've ever just been interested
- 54:02in seeing what a Tesla is all about, go to a Tesla dealership.
- 54:07They don't pressure you. They don't care if you're gonna buy it or not.
- 54:12They will let you borrow one for like a weekend just to drive it
- 54:15around. It's amazing cars. Oh oh god, yeah, we bought one.
- 54:21Yeah, and not only that, well, we got the model.
- 54:23Why because here's the reason. Seventy five hundred dollars federal tax credit seventy five
- 54:29hundred dollars Colorado credit brings the total cost of the car down to thirty one
- 54:36thousand dollars. It's up in the fifty sixty range. It's like fifty four
- 54:40fifty four or something. Seriously, let me ask you what kind of warranty,
- 54:45because you know, there's been a lot of question about the battery batteries
- 54:47and that's it. Well, it's a it's a it's a ten year warranty
- 54:50on the battery, right, I believe I think it's a ten year warranty.
- 54:52Yeah, I think so, it's ten yearranty. But that's that's the
- 54:55thing. It's hit or miss the manufacturing quality of Teslas or or miss,
- 55:00like you'll get a great one or you'll get one that's gonna have to keep
- 55:02going back to service. So I'm hoping and and it's not here yet.
- 55:07We don't have it. It should be delivered before August twenty three, and
- 55:10it's being delivered to the house. You can say the color, interior,
- 55:14color the whole bay. We went for premium red with white interior. Very
- 55:17nice. All right, you gotta take some pictures when it comes up.
- 55:20We'll put them on the block slately. That's it for this week's tech Talk
- 55:22Radio. Thank you for tuning in. Tech guys at tech Talk Radio.
