Latest / The Slippery Slope / Australia's Misinformation Bill
Transcript
- 0:10Well, I've been keeping a track of this Freedom of Information
- 0:15or Misinformation bill that's been slowly making its way
- 0:22through Australian government, through the.
- 0:25The media doing the rounds, it's like it's like they're just
- 0:28slowly drip feeding us information because they know
- 0:31very well that Australians are going to be very much against
- 0:34this, that media is going to be pushing back.
- 0:37But it seems like if they just drip feed us information, tell
- 0:41us little bits and pieces about what they want, what's going on,
- 0:47you know, then then they can slowly get people.
- 0:51It's just my opinion. It seems like they they do this
- 0:53thing, they drip feeders because then they slowly get people used
- 0:56to used to the idea. However, more people seem to be
- 1:00pushing back. I think in the long run it'll
- 1:04all come through because I think that's the it's really the goal
- 1:09anyways, to have it no matter what, no matter what the
- 1:12Australian public's opinion on it.
- 1:14It is their goal. To have this misinformation
- 1:19bill. Of course the biggest problem
- 1:20with this misinformation bill is all you do is have other people
- 1:24deciding what is misinformation, what is disinformation.
- 1:27And as we saw during the the Plan endemic period, the people
- 1:34who are deciding what is misinformation and
- 1:36disinformation were themselves not just being deceived what,
- 1:41but were being deceitful. And and passing on
- 1:45misinformation, disinformation. And then when you were if if you
- 1:51have the nails to go and and actually find out the truth or
- 1:55or sit there and question things, well, then they will
- 1:58say, well misinformation, disinformation, you're you're
- 2:01sowing doubts. Who were you to be talking?
- 2:04Who were you to say to ask questions anyway?
- 2:08Let's just go through this article just explaining a bit
- 2:10more about what's happening at the moment.
- 2:13So Labour's to overhaul misinformation bill after
- 2:16objections over freedom of speech.
- 2:19Of course there's a there are much bigger issues here.
- 2:24But this is just, this is just one of the starting points.
- 2:28Eventually the the control of information is where it's all at
- 2:34controlling. It's being able to disseminate
- 2:36information how they want and not having not having people
- 2:41question. Just being docile, little little
- 2:45lambs just going heading to the slaughter, basically, the
- 2:48Albanese government will overhaul a draft bill targeting
- 2:51misinformation and disinformation online, up to
- 2:54strong push back against the proposal.
- 2:56It will also delay introducing this legislation into parliament
- 3:00into 20 until 2024. The draft legislation relief
- 3:04consultation earlier this year. Would have allowed the
- 3:07Australian Communications and Media Authority to require
- 3:10social media companies to toughen their policies on
- 3:14content. Content that is false,
- 3:17misleading or deceptive, and where the provision of that
- 3:20content on the service is reasonably likely to cause or
- 3:24contribute to serious harm. Now I don't have to tell.
- 3:30I don't have to tell any of you that you know.
- 3:35They they're going to require social media companies to
- 3:39toughen their policies, you know, which just leads us to
- 3:43social media companies deciding what the misinformation or what
- 3:47the disinformation is. They will suddenly be deciding
- 3:50again when they already do it, what is wrong and who are they.
- 3:54And the problem is, they are the cause of the problem.
- 3:57They they they set up these companies and and decide no, no,
- 4:01what you're saying is false. They shape the false narrative.
- 4:06They shape the lies. It's and then this.
- 4:13They shape the lies. If you dare question anything,
- 4:18well then, hey, you're conspiracy theorists.
- 4:21You're you're you're spreading disinformation pretty soon.
- 4:27Not very. Not very far down the track.
- 4:29You're going to be facing jail sentences, jail terms, if you're
- 4:35if it's decided that you have been feeding disinformation,
- 4:39dishonest information, and who are the ones that decide it is
- 4:43dishonest or deceiving or disinformation, it's them.
- 4:47They are the regulators. The consultation drew 23,000
- 4:51responses, including 3000 submissions.
- 4:53Many of which were critical of the bill.
- 4:55The large response also came after campaigns against the bill
- 4:59from the Coalition 1 Nation and former LNP MP George
- 5:03Christensen. The aim was to give ACMA ACMA
- 5:10more powers to enforce an already in place voluntary
- 5:13industry code that includes companies such as Meta X, which
- 5:17formerly Twitter, Microsoft and Google Now.
- 5:22We we do remember that even X or Elon Musk, it was virtually just
- 5:29X really. He just spent billions of
- 5:32dollars so he can have his own platform to say whatever, you
- 5:37know, he he'd pointed out he he'd given us the information
- 5:40and shown us how companies like Facebook or Meta and other
- 5:45companies had stifled information and stifled stifled
- 5:50information getting out there. Such as the Barden laptop
- 5:55scenario. OK, they'd start with the
- 5:57information. They said no, no, this is a fake
- 5:59narrative, fake story. Couple of years later, oh,
- 6:03hello, wait up. We've proven now that it is
- 6:05actually true. But you know, it's too late now.
- 6:10The effect that it would have had had when the information
- 6:14first came to light, if they hadn't have starved for the
- 6:16story, could have really affected the American election.
- 6:22You know, to a much greater degree, obviously.
- 6:25Not to mention the fact that it overlooked, you know, the the IT
- 6:31overlooked the issues of illegal behavior by the now president's
- 6:36son and some illegal activity that maybe the now president
- 6:41Smokey Joe might have been a party to, might have had
- 6:45knowledge of. So you know, they've already
- 6:48been, they've already had this this coming in where they can
- 6:51decide what the misinformation is and they've done the wrong
- 6:54thing. But now they want to give them
- 6:58more, more power, want to go back to that, where they give
- 7:01them more power. Going back to this, those
- 7:08opposed claimed companies would over censor, over censor.
- 7:13Remember what happened. Remember what happened during
- 7:16the COVID. The COVID plan they would over
- 7:20censor to avoid being fined by ACMA, which would gain
- 7:25information gathering powers and could also fine individuals and
- 7:30companies for providing false evidence during this process up
- 7:35to 6.875 million. Sorry, is that 6.875 million or
- 7:44Crikey? 5% of global turnover, whichever
- 7:49one's the difference. On Sunday, the communications
- 7:52minister, Michelle Rowland, said the government would take on
- 7:56board the responses in the public consultation and would
- 8:00improve the bill. You actually don't need the
- 8:03bill, but they're just going to change it anyway.
- 8:04They're they're going to keep it.
- 8:06The government is considering refinements to the bill,
- 8:08including including to definitions, exemptions and
- 8:13clarification on religious freedom.
- 8:15Among other things, this obviously also helps lead me to
- 8:21one of the main issues I've got with this bill.
- 8:25You know, they decide they're deciding with religious freedom.
- 8:30Obviously we've got a lot of groups now that take umbrage
- 8:34with that, take issue with things that are said in the
- 8:39Bible. People overlook anything that
- 8:43might be said in. I won't even say the name of it,
- 8:47but in the in that other religious text which is followed
- 8:50by, you know, a billion or so people around the world, people
- 8:55overlooked that. But people are obviously very
- 8:58much getting insulted by by scripture in the in the Bible.
- 9:07We're going to see a clamp down and I've been saying this for a
- 9:10long time, we're going to see clamp down on.
- 9:14On the Bible, we're gonna I believe this is eventually
- 9:18leading to the Bible being declared a book of hate speech.
- 9:23We've also, we've already seen nations like China rewrite the
- 9:27Bible just for their own, you know, for their own needs, for
- 9:32their own desires, to suit their own, their own will.
- 9:35But we're going to see the the Bible.
- 9:39Declared as hate speech, I believe, and I think this is
- 9:42that bills like this are going to be used for, for things like
- 9:44that, so continuing on, she said.
- 9:48The government remain committed to holding powerful digital
- 9:51platforms to account for seriously harmful misinformation
- 9:55and disinformation on their services in the face of
- 10:00seriously harmful content that sows division, undermines
- 10:04support for pillars of our democracy or disrupts public
- 10:07health responses doing nothing. Is not an option.
- 10:12Under the proposed legislation, ACMA ACMA would not direct
- 10:18companies to remove pieces of content, but rather focus on the
- 10:21processes the company has in place to tackle misinformation,
- 10:25ACMA Chair Narada O'Loughlin told Senate estimates last
- 10:29month. Wow.
- 10:35So basically they are just going to be deciding what is
- 10:37misinformation and disinformation.
- 10:42Putting up the penalties to seriously hold back public
- 10:48debate do not sow any kind of seeds of dissent.
- 10:53Do not question anything. Don't you dare not believe the
- 10:58narrative that the government has put out now.
- 11:03Well, let's just go back to one thing, just one thing.
- 11:06Over the last couple of years that's come to light.
- 11:09Put aside what happened with the American election, even though a
- 11:13lot of people still believe, and there is a lot of evidence, not
- 11:18just people's opinions, evidence to show that the election was
- 11:23tampered with by who knows, you know, the little fairies out
- 11:29there tampered with the election.
- 11:32Forget that. The narrative, let's go back to
- 11:35the narrative of the Plan demick.
- 11:40The narrative by all governments, by our our
- 11:43government especially, and other Western governments.
- 11:46It was that the plan Demick was completely accidental.
- 11:54It was just an act of nature. And you know, the fact that it
- 12:00started in a certain area in China.
- 12:02And that right next door to that little wet market where it all
- 12:06came out of was this other laboratory where they actually
- 12:12produced the very virus that was affecting, killing a lot of
- 12:17people around the world. Just coincidence.
- 12:20That's just one massive coincidence.
- 12:23Don't seed. Don't.
- 12:25Don't sow any seeds of misinformation, disinformation.
- 12:29Don't question the narrative. There is no way, no way a little
- 12:35laboratory laboratory in China where the security is not so
- 12:41tough. There's no way there would have
- 12:43been leak. Obviously it all came out of
- 12:45just coincidentally, just an act of nature from the wet market
- 12:50next door. And don't you dare question it.
- 12:56No, we have to go along with the government.
- 13:00The government narrative, that's that's all they're doing.
- 13:03That's all they're doing. They want us to go along with
- 13:06the government narrative. Eventually this will lead to the
- 13:09Bible being declared a book of hate speech and it will be
- 13:15banned. I would suggest you start
- 13:20getting your own Bibles if you if you know if that's what you
- 13:23want to do, if you believe in the Bible, if you're a
- 13:24Christian, I would suggest you well, you take steps.
- 13:29To be able to read the word of God yourself in the future.
- 13:35Anyway, these are things. This is where it's going.
- 13:37They continue to treat us like idiots.
- 13:40The Australian government says, Oh yeah, OK, well, we're gonna
- 13:42seriously listen to the Australian public, but we all
- 13:47know that they will push this through no matter what.
- 13:49It will go down this road. And it's just about them
- 13:52controlling the information, Controlling the narrative.
- 13:56Well, they say it's to help. It's to help stem the flow of
- 14:03harmful content that is just a load of crock.
- 14:08It is to help them be able to control the narrative and put
- 14:14out, to be able to control the narrative that they want and
- 14:20stifle free speech within this nation.
- 14:23That is my opinion. And if you can change my mind on
- 14:29that, tell me, say something, let me know, add a comment, tell
- 14:35me why I'm wrong. Tell me why I'm wrong.
- 14:38That this is not just the government trying to stifle, not
- 14:43not just stifle, actually it's not a strong enough word is that
- 14:45they're just trying to prevent free speech and trying to
- 14:49control, completely control the narrative.
- 14:52And they will be the authors of. The false narrative In the
- 14:57future, tell me. Explain to me why I'm wrong.
- 15:04Anyway, it's just my opinion. Let me know what you think.
- 15:08I'm Jay Fallon. Thanks for listening to the
- 15:10slippery slope. Also, thanks for listening to my
- 15:12music on Spotify and Apple Music.
- 15:16Pretty cool. And thanks for listening.
