- 0:46Speaker 1: Homewark exclusive listener, give them a.

- 1:09Speaker 2: loving so much, so I invite everybody to come over.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Just search Girls Gone Hallmark and Facebook. You'll find it.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Indeed, we would love to have you. Wendy, do you
- 1:19Speaker 1: have a synopsis for Heart.
- 1:21Speaker 3: Of the Matter?
- 1:22Speaker 2: I share? Do you are you ready for it? I
- 1:23Speaker 2: am Andy is devastated by an accidental death of a patient,
- 1:28Speaker 2: but as she and the grieving mother overcome their sorrow
- 1:32Speaker 2: through forgiveness, they learn that acceptance leads to Hope, starring
- 1:38Speaker 2: Amy T. Garden, gell O Grady and Chandler Massey.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Would you like me to hit you with some Hallmark
- 1:45Speaker 1: specific news first?
- 1:47Speaker 3: Please?
- 1:48Speaker 1: We have countdown to Christmas news stop. I'm so excited
- 1:54Speaker 1: because it's May and you know Hallmark is very last
- 1:58Speaker 1: minute with these productions.
- 1:59Speaker 3: But we have Will.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Kemp, who you may recall as the star of A
- 2:04Speaker 1: Christmas Waltz, Yes, one of your top three movies. He
- 2:08Speaker 1: will star in what is currently titled A Jolly Good Christmas,
- 2:13Speaker 1: which is both set and filmed in England.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Will he be dancing? I hope that.
- 2:19Speaker 3: I do not know who is his co star, Rashma Schetty.
- 2:23Speaker 2: That's exciting, Yeah, a newcomer and this is Christmas. We're
- 2:28Speaker 2: talking at Christmas the movie already? Well, I sure do
- 2:34Speaker 2: like Will Camp, so I hope he's dancing. You know,
- 2:37Speaker 2: he has a dance like history background, right, so that
- 2:42Speaker 2: movie and I can't remember the name of it right
- 2:44Speaker 2: now where they sang songs. Oh, just one kissy, It's
- 2:50Speaker 2: just one kiss, like I love that movie so much.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I need like content like that. Yeah, it feels like
- 2:59Speaker 2: old timey but like good fun too. Huh.
- 3:02Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I'm a grandma of these days. Apparently, I just want
- 3:08Speaker 2: like fun entertainment to watch. Hey, let's talk news and
- 3:13Speaker 2: notes of heart of the matter. Okay, Well, I do
- 3:17Speaker 2: have a slightly hallmarked news and notes and we probably
- 3:21Speaker 2: mentioned it on a previous podcast. But in April it
- 3:24Speaker 2: was announced that Amy T. Gardens signed an exclusive multi
- 3:27Speaker 2: picture deal with Crown Media, and I think a Christmas
- 3:32Speaker 2: movie is in that deal as well, but I could
- 3:35Speaker 2: not confirm.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I would love to see that.
- 3:37Speaker 1: She was in one of the best Christmas movies of
- 3:39Speaker 1: last year, so I would be shocked if they did
- 3:41Speaker 1: not give her a countdown to Christmas placement.
- 3:44Speaker 2: I think so too. But was it her or was
- 3:46Speaker 2: it Andrew Walker? And then the surprise cameo from Tyler
- 3:50Speaker 2: Freakin Hines.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Well, I think it was a combination, but she was
- 3:54Speaker 1: certainly part of that secret sauce.
- 3:59Speaker 2: I love that movie. It's Me and the Family Christmas Tree.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Oh no, that's not it.
- 4:04Speaker 3: My Family Christmas.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Tree, My Christmas Family Tree, Me and the Family Christmas Tree.
- 4:15Speaker 2: The story itself was so good. I really like that movie.
- 4:19Speaker 2: And you know what that's gonna be on my twenty
- 4:21Speaker 2: twenty two watch list rewatch list. Oh my goodness, it
- 4:25Speaker 2: was so good.
- 4:26Speaker 3: It was good. It was good.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Get to write in that Hallmark Christmas mood. It does okay.
- 4:32Speaker 2: So obviously we're talking about Amy t Garden and she
- 4:35Speaker 2: plays Andy, but she's also best known as Julie Taylor
- 4:39Speaker 2: on the series Friday Night Lights and look at I
- 4:41Speaker 2: highly recommend watching the series if you've never seen it.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Just like ted Lasso is not about soccer, Friday Night
- 4:50Speaker 2: Lights is really.
- 4:50Speaker 3: Not about football.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Yeah, wouldn't you agree? Yeah, it's so good. And I
- 4:57Speaker 2: in the last couple of years did a rewatch of
- 4:59Speaker 2: that series. Man, it still holds well. It still hits
- 5:05Speaker 2: you in the right spots. But I don't know if
- 5:08Speaker 2: it like still I'd have to rewatch it in twenty
- 5:11Speaker 2: twenty two now and see if there's if it's problematic
- 5:14Speaker 2: in places, but sure, like everything is. My point is,
- 5:19Speaker 2: go watch that series if you've never seen it. So good.
- 5:21Speaker 1: You know, I watched Friday Night Lights but I stopped
- 5:25Speaker 1: after season four and season five is the final season
- 5:28Speaker 1: because I didn't want it to be over, and then
- 5:30Speaker 1: I never went back to it, so I think I
- 5:31Speaker 1: need to do a full rewatch. However, season two is
- 5:35Speaker 1: real bad because I believe season two took place during
- 5:37Speaker 1: the writer's strike. Oh but the one thing season two
- 5:41Speaker 1: does really well is Tammy Taylor's postpartum days. They do
- 5:47Speaker 1: such a good job with that. So I am seconding
- 5:49Speaker 1: your recommendation and I might just rewatch myself.
- 5:52Speaker 2: You should Should we have a Friday night lights podcast?
- 5:56Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, should.
- 5:59Speaker 2: We start into that? Email us at Megan and Wendy
- 6:02Speaker 2: at gmail dot com. You know, like, we'll just have
- 6:04Speaker 2: a podcast Monday through Friday.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Here seriously, or it could be Patreon exclusive.
- 6:09Speaker 2: Oh hey, now I like that too. Moving on, Amy
- 6:13Speaker 2: is also she's got a ton of acting credits. But
- 6:16Speaker 2: she was also in The Ranch on Netflix, a show
- 6:19Speaker 2: I think you watched.
- 6:21Speaker 3: She was in the Ranch.
- 6:23Speaker 2: It's said, that's what IMDb says. I've never seen that show.
- 6:27Speaker 1: The Ranch is in Netflix series about a ranch. My
- 6:31Speaker 1: husband really likes that show very much. Sam Elliott is
- 6:34Speaker 1: in it, Ashton Kutcher star is in it.
- 6:36Speaker 3: I like it.
- 6:37Speaker 2: I don't have the affection for it that he does.
- 6:42Speaker 3: Danny Masterson is in it.
- 6:44Speaker 2: That's problematic?
- 6:45Speaker 3: Is not in it?
- 6:47Speaker 2: Oh like, he's in it. He's in it at the
- 6:50Speaker 2: beginning and then boom gone.
- 6:52Speaker 1: He's in the first few seasons and then he goes away.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Oh boy.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I will say that it's not a feel good show?
- 6:59Speaker 2: Is it? Is it comedy?
- 7:01Speaker 1: It has funny moments because Sam Elliott is very quietly funny.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Is it's not a comedy. It's a drama.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I mean it is like life is hard on this ranch,
- 7:12Speaker 1: and here are all the problems we have in our lives,
- 7:14Speaker 1: and it is it is not a lighthearted television show.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Did Sam Elliott make our Hot Dudes List?
- 7:23Speaker 1: I believe Sam Elliott was the impetus for the Hot
- 7:25Speaker 1: Old Dude's List?
- 7:26Speaker 2: Yeah, wasn't he?
- 7:28Speaker 3: I thought so too.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Sam Elliott and Kevin Costner can still get it? Who
- 7:31Speaker 1: else can still get it? And then we made a
- 7:32Speaker 1: whole list. If you've missed that episode, scroll up a
- 7:35Speaker 1: little bit. It's called Hot Old Dudes A deep Dive.
- 7:37Speaker 3: It's a good time it is.
- 7:39Speaker 2: I will leave a link in our show notes. The
- 7:41Speaker 2: writer of the movie is Karen Struck. Now I am
- 7:45Speaker 2: dB indicates that she's written for several doctor slash medical
- 7:50Speaker 2: type shows. I have that note too, including The Good Doctor,
- 7:55Speaker 2: The Night Shift and Monday Mornings. So she comes with
- 7:59Speaker 2: a you know, prolific experience writing medical type.
- 8:03Speaker 1: Shows, and I think she does it well. It felt
- 8:07Speaker 1: like the medical part hit well.
- 8:09Speaker 2: It felt legit, yeah to me as to.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Personnel.
- 8:15Speaker 2: But I believed it, Yes, I did. I. I mean,
- 8:18Speaker 2: I have some questions and we'll get to that a
- 8:20Speaker 2: little bit later. But yeah, I thought like I wasn't
- 8:23Speaker 2: ever like, what nonsense are they talking about?
- 8:27Speaker 1: You know? You know, Hey, Peter Bryant who plays mentor
- 8:31Speaker 1: doctor Fisher. Hallmark fans will recognize him from movies like
- 8:34Speaker 1: The Santa Steakout and Always a Moore. But he has
- 8:38Speaker 1: one hundred and forty six acting credits, and he has
- 8:41Speaker 1: also been in Upload, which is a show that I love,
- 8:44Speaker 1: and Riverdale, which is a common theme among some of
- 8:48Speaker 1: our Hallmark actors.
- 8:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and only season one of Ruverdale was good. I
- 8:52Speaker 2: never I never watched after that same Gail Olgrady plays
- 8:56Speaker 2: Gladys Now. She's got over one hundred acting credits. She's
- 9:00Speaker 2: probably best known for NYPD Blue, which ran from nineteen
- 9:03Speaker 2: ninety three to nineteen ninety nine. I was not interested
- 9:07Speaker 2: in that show when I was at age. Probably the
- 9:11Speaker 2: demo was a little bit older than I was, early twenties.
- 9:15Speaker 1: I mean, is NYPD Blue a CBS show?
- 9:17Speaker 3: It feels like a there.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Think it was an ABC show.
- 9:21Speaker 1: Actually, it feels like there's so many shows like that now,
- 9:26Speaker 1: like the ncis IS and the CSIS and the Hawaii
- 9:30Speaker 1: ive O's and the you know what I mean. But
- 9:32Speaker 1: I feel like that was one of the originals that
- 9:35Speaker 1: launched a thousand cop shows.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Maybe no, because wasn't there another cop show like before
- 9:42Speaker 2: Cagney and Lacey was a cop show. Now, you guys,
- 9:45Speaker 2: I was a child when that stuff was out, Cagney
- 9:47Speaker 2: and Lacy, and there was another cop show. It's not
- 9:50Speaker 2: coming to mind. But if you're listening to this episode
- 9:52Speaker 2: and you know what I'm talking about, please email us.
- 9:56Speaker 3: Gaelo.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Grady was also She's been in very popular TV shows
- 10:00Speaker 2: like Boston Legal, American Dreams, Monk, Desperate Housewives, Revenge, and
- 10:06Speaker 2: Criminal Minds. Goodness, I know a whole lot now. While
- 10:11Speaker 2: I was going through her IMDb, I have a question
- 10:13Speaker 2: for you. As I was going through her IMDb, it
- 10:16Speaker 2: shows that she was on an episode of a television
- 10:19Speaker 2: show that aired on the USA Network called Silk Stockings.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Are you familiar?
- 10:26Speaker 1: I'm not sure I've ever seen an episode, but I've
- 10:28Speaker 1: definitely seen previews.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Oh really as a child? You had been a child?
- 10:33Speaker 1: It ran from nineteen ninety one babysitting Watching Lifetime.
- 10:38Speaker 2: It ran from nineteen ninety one to nineteen ninety nine.
- 10:42Speaker 2: It starred Rob Esti's from milrose Place and a actress's
- 10:49Speaker 2: named Mitsi Capture. I loved the show and I always
- 10:53Speaker 2: watched it in repeats on the USA Network. It's like
- 10:56Speaker 2: a detective type show and it was on the USA Network.
- 11:02Speaker 2: It was a little bit racy, I would say for the.
- 11:05Speaker 1: Time the double entendre with Silk Stockings.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Yes, I was super into this show and I need
- 11:11Speaker 2: to see if it's airing anywhere, Like is it streaming?
- 11:14Speaker 3: I think I want to revisit Big Cast in this movie.
- 11:16Speaker 1: We have Andrew Zakhar, who plays Patrick in this movie
- 11:19Speaker 1: has a ton of supporting actor credits, but.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Hallmartually the only place that lets him take the lead.
- 11:24Speaker 1: He was also in The Eight Gifts of Hanukkah and
- 11:27Speaker 1: I would like to see more Andrew.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Zakhar was this the pilot?
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 11:31Speaker 2: Oh, honestly my research, I didn't even look at his
- 11:35Speaker 2: storyline was so like non important to me in this movie.
- 11:39Speaker 2: So I know I'm terrible about his.
- 11:42Speaker 1: Son Asriel Dollman, who plays Willie, who was also in
- 11:45Speaker 1: Kytie Creek Christmas and Sweet Carolina.
- 11:49Speaker 3: Not on your radar either.
- 11:50Speaker 2: We'll talk about that more in my wish now much.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I love children in these sies.
- 11:56Speaker 1: And of course this movie was filmed in Vancouver while
- 11:59Speaker 1: being set in Portland.
- 12:01Speaker 2: Okay, let's talk about Chandler Massey as Henry.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Uh huh.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Now, Days of Our Lives is a big show in
- 12:09Speaker 2: your house? Indeed, he plays Will Horton. Is he currently
- 12:13Speaker 2: playing Will Horton on that show?
- 12:15Speaker 3: Yep?
- 12:16Speaker 1: He split his time between Days of Our Lives and
- 12:18Speaker 1: filming the show.
- 12:19Speaker 3: Oh did he?
- 12:20Speaker 2: Now? He was also in last year's Next Stop Christmas. Yeah,
- 12:27Speaker 2: time travel ish movie, which I really liked him, Like,
- 12:31Speaker 2: I don't know why he's not in like he he
- 12:34Speaker 2: should be in a lead role, don't you think so?
- 12:36Speaker 3: Oh? One hundred percent?
- 12:38Speaker 1: Like I have many things to say about his role
- 12:39Speaker 1: in this movie.
- 12:40Speaker 2: But yes, oh interesting, I have lots of questions about
- 12:43Speaker 2: I have lots of questions about his role too.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Okay, this movie.
- 12:47Speaker 2: Filmed during March twenty twenty two, so man, real, real
- 12:52Speaker 2: tight turnaround on this guy. Yeah, that's all I got
- 12:56Speaker 2: for news and notes.
- 12:57Speaker 1: The last note I have is that they had both
- 13:00Speaker 1: cardiology advisor and a surgical nurse on set for accuracy,
- 13:03Speaker 1: as revealed by the executive producers instagram m. Let's talk
- 13:09Speaker 1: first impressions. Do you want to go first?
- 13:14Speaker 2: Well?
- 13:14Speaker 1: I had one and I erased it. Oh, so the
- 13:17Speaker 1: current one is uh oh, another problematic movie. Really want
- 13:24Speaker 1: you hear my first one? Okay, Amy T. Garden, you
- 13:27Speaker 1: have saved the month of May. They're so opposite, I know,
- 13:33Speaker 1: as are my feelings about this movie.
- 13:35Speaker 3: What is your first impression?
- 13:37Speaker 2: Maybe doctor Andy should have been a dermatologist in sort
- 13:40Speaker 2: of a cardiologist.
- 13:42Speaker 1: WHOA.
- 13:44Speaker 2: I'm just saying like she's not cut out to be
- 13:48Speaker 2: like a doctor that deals with death.
- 13:51Speaker 3: Oh, because she did not handle it well.
- 13:54Speaker 2: She didn't handle it well. But we'll talk about that
- 13:56Speaker 2: a little bit more. Okay, I want to hear all
- 13:58Speaker 2: your uh things. This is gonna be an interesting conversation,
- 14:03Speaker 2: I think.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Well, I think it's gonna be short and sweet. So
- 14:06Speaker 1: let's do what we liked first, and I would like
- 14:09Speaker 1: to start by saying I find Movies and Mysteries movies
- 14:12Speaker 1: to be a bit of a breath of fresh air
- 14:15Speaker 1: with the changeup of the standard Hallmark formula.
- 14:18Speaker 2: I agree, and I almost wondered if I like the
- 14:22Speaker 2: movies on Hallmarks Movies and Mysteries better than the regular
- 14:28Speaker 2: It gets old after a while, right, get the same
- 14:31Speaker 2: formula over it, like you know what to expect, and
- 14:34Speaker 2: like I get that some people like that, like knowing
- 14:37Speaker 2: what to expect. But the less couple movies we watched
- 14:40Speaker 2: on Movies and Mysteries are maybe some of my favorite
- 14:46Speaker 2: of the year. I appreciated the message in this movie
- 14:52Speaker 2: m to me, it was truly a family movie where
- 14:56Speaker 2: I believe the moral of the story was beyond forgiveness
- 15:01Speaker 2: for a doctor who made an error, but instead a
- 15:04Speaker 2: call to action in recognizing persons with disabilities.
- 15:10Speaker 3: That's really interesting.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Yuh oh, you disagree, Well.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I think if that's the message, they missed the mark
- 15:17Speaker 1: in one big way, which we'll get to next to
- 15:19Speaker 1: your point. I liked when Patrick took Andy on the
- 15:23Speaker 1: airplane and did his show like walking down the aisle
- 15:28Speaker 1: and said look, these people all trust me, and they
- 15:32Speaker 1: all recognize that part of life is out of our control.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that I am human? Right, Yes, Yeah, I thought
- 15:38Speaker 2: that was a good A good point.
- 15:41Speaker 1: That was well executed, I thought, and I have thought
- 15:44Speaker 1: about it. Actually, a lot of this movie has stuck
- 15:46Speaker 1: with me.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I only watched it yesterday, but a lot of.
- 15:47Speaker 1: This movie has stuck with me. It has given me
- 15:51Speaker 1: a lot to think about, which I would not necessarily
- 15:52Speaker 1: say is the case with many of these movies. They're
- 15:55Speaker 1: done and they are completely out of my head. But
- 15:58Speaker 1: I do like that this movie gave me something to
- 16:00Speaker 1: think about.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Well, I'm going to add to that too. At the end,
- 16:04Speaker 2: when the news reporter is talking to Gladys at the
- 16:07Speaker 2: house and she's she's telling her about the you know,
- 16:10Speaker 2: the resolution to their story and blah blah blah whatever,
- 16:13Speaker 2: and the lady's like, this is not a news story,
- 16:15Speaker 2: you know, because news only wants like salacious, clickbait stuff.
- 16:21Speaker 2: But in that same conversation, she referred to Gladys's son
- 16:25Speaker 2: Henry as a handicap and then like Gladys drop the
- 16:31Speaker 2: hammer on her, And I was like, I really can't
- 16:36Speaker 2: appreciate that.
- 16:38Speaker 1: Yeah, there is some education in here, and she also
- 16:40Speaker 1: talks about, you know, people with disabilities having driver's licenses,
- 16:44Speaker 1: and you know, Andy was experiencing some ablest thinking in
- 16:49Speaker 1: assuming that he couldn't drive, And I really understood the
- 16:55Speaker 1: mother's frustration in that moment of just wanting her son
- 16:59Speaker 1: to be for who he was.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Right. I have a small side note. One of our
- 17:04Speaker 2: face group members, Michael, had written in Facebook in our
- 17:09Speaker 2: group that this movie had like an after school special
- 17:12Speaker 2: kind of vibe. I'm paraphrasing here. I would agree, and
- 17:16Speaker 2: I would even suggest that we need more entertainment content
- 17:21Speaker 2: like that these days, with a lesson with a lesson, Yes,
- 17:27Speaker 2: it feels missing from our lineup.
- 17:31Speaker 3: Oh yes.
- 17:33Speaker 1: I think that's why channels like Hallmark, and specifically Hallmark,
- 17:36Speaker 1: not just channels like it will be popular because it
- 17:40Speaker 1: fills a hole that is going away in a lot
- 17:43Speaker 1: of other programming.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Well, that's why I hope Hallmark keeps pushing, pushing outside
- 17:49Speaker 2: the boundary of the formula we're familiar with.
- 17:53Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yeah, and Hallmark can continue to make a wholesome television
- 17:59Speaker 1: that is inclusive.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Right.
- 18:02Speaker 1: I have one baby like and that is Amy t.
- 18:06Speaker 1: Garden's wardrobe and hairstyles. Didn't even notice particularly well. First
- 18:11Speaker 1: of all, she changes up her hair quite a bit,
- 18:13Speaker 1: which I like. Sometimes we get these actresses and their
- 18:16Speaker 1: hair looks the same in every single scene, which is fine.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I am a hair person. I notice the hair on
- 18:23Speaker 1: these actresses, and she had multiple different hair styles. But
- 18:27Speaker 1: there's a couple scenes where she's like at home and
- 18:29Speaker 1: she's just got a messy ponytail happening, and I liked
- 18:32Speaker 1: that commitment to the moment felt relatable.
- 18:36Speaker 2: Yes, okay, I didn't even really notice, to be honest,
- 18:40Speaker 2: but yeah, good note Megan. All right, let's talk about
- 18:43Speaker 2: what we wish for, because I think you have a
- 18:45Speaker 2: lot to say.
- 18:46Speaker 1: I have one thing to say, Oh, okay, and that
- 18:49Speaker 1: is I wish that the intellectually disabled character had been
- 18:52Speaker 1: played by an intellectually disabled actor.
- 18:56Speaker 2: That is a big question I have. I Okay, I
- 18:59Speaker 2: have written that. I know Henry has to die for
- 19:02Speaker 2: this story, but I would have loved some more Chandler Massey. However,
- 19:06Speaker 2: I wanted to get your take on what you thought
- 19:10Speaker 2: about having a typical actor play an intellectually disabled person.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't like it.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Does this ride a line of insensitivity for you?
- 19:19Speaker 1: It's not even writing a line. It's so far over
- 19:22Speaker 1: the line. I feel like we've come so far. In
- 19:26Speaker 1: the middle of June, Hallmark has a movie starring to
- 19:31Speaker 1: actors with down syndrome. It's not like they're unaware of
- 19:35Speaker 1: the necessity for representation within these movies. And there are
- 19:40Speaker 1: additional actors in this movie itself who play Henry's friends.
- 19:46Speaker 1: These actors are available for hire. They wanted Chandler Massey.
- 19:51Speaker 1: I love Chandler Massey. I like him as Will Horton.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I liked him in Next Up Christmas.
- 19:55Speaker 3: I like him.
- 19:57Speaker 1: I don't like I think we when you know better,
- 20:00Speaker 1: you do better.
- 20:01Speaker 3: And I don't think we should.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Have abled actors portraying characteristics of.
- 20:10Speaker 3: Disabled people.
- 20:12Speaker 1: And I tried really hard to figure out the correct
- 20:15Speaker 1: terminology within this community. So if there's a different term
- 20:19Speaker 1: that I should be using, please let me know.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree. I was like, as I was typing
- 20:24Speaker 2: up my notes, I was like, is this the right
- 20:28Speaker 2: term monology? So yes, if we are offending anybody, or
- 20:35Speaker 2: if there is a better suggestion I would like to
- 20:39Speaker 2: make a change for the better, please please let us know.
- 20:41Speaker 2: And now there was a twenty twenty movie called Music
- 20:44Speaker 2: where a abled actor played a woman with autism, and
- 20:49Speaker 2: there was a lot of blowback on that movie.
- 20:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 20:53Speaker 2: But of course, if you think about the movie Rainman,
- 20:56Speaker 2: who was famously played by Dustin Hoffman, who also won
- 20:59Speaker 2: an actor and an Oscar for that role. Yeah, of
- 21:02Speaker 2: course that was many, many years ago, and I was
- 21:05Speaker 2: a child when that movie came out, So I don't
- 21:07Speaker 2: know if there was like an uproar of people who
- 21:12Speaker 2: were unhappy with him playing a role of a person
- 21:18Speaker 2: with autism. So do you think it's just strides we've
- 21:23Speaker 2: made in the last thirty years.
- 21:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I think when you know better, you do better.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Now do you blame Chandler Massey for taking this role
- 21:32Speaker 2: or do you blame the casting people?
- 21:38Speaker 1: The blame falls on the casting But it is a
- 21:42Speaker 1: little disappointing to me that Chandler Massey didn't see this
- 21:45Speaker 1: and go, oh, maybe this isn't the role for me,
- 21:48Speaker 1: Maybe I'm not.
- 21:49Speaker 3: The actor for this role.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Or he might have looked at it and said, this
- 21:53Speaker 2: looks like a challenge, you know what I mean, I'm
- 21:55Speaker 2: just playing devil's advocate here. I don't think that was
- 21:59Speaker 2: the right choice.
- 22:00Speaker 1: But well, and he could have been like Hey, I'm
- 22:03Speaker 1: gonna play this if the goal is, as you said
- 22:07Speaker 1: in our previous segment, are we trying to teach a lesson?
- 22:10Speaker 1: Are we trying to shine a light on a community
- 22:13Speaker 1: that is potentially overlooked? And his goal is like, Hey,
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm gonna paint a really beautiful picture of this person
- 22:19Speaker 1: who's lovely and wonderful. I think his portrayal of Henry
- 22:24Speaker 1: is lovely. I still think he shouldn't have done it.
- 22:26Speaker 1: He shouldn't have been put in the position to do it.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Yeah, interesting, good notes.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Thanks, what else did you wish for?
- 22:34Speaker 2: I don't know how believable it is for a doctor
- 22:37Speaker 2: to be so shook after losing a patient. But let
- 22:40Speaker 2: me say that I am not a doctor. I don't
- 22:43Speaker 2: know what it's like to lose a patient. But I
- 22:47Speaker 2: feel like, from what I've seen in TV in movies,
- 22:51Speaker 2: doctors kind of have like a way about them to
- 22:57Speaker 2: deal with that kind of stuff or maybe car that's
- 23:00Speaker 2: the word. So I don't know, and I get that
- 23:03Speaker 2: she was like in her like first year of you know,
- 23:08Speaker 2: her career, but well, is.
- 23:10Speaker 1: She so shaken by the death or by the fact
- 23:13Speaker 1: that she feels responsible for the death? Because I think
- 23:17Speaker 1: there's a difference there. Right, you are a cardiologist, people
- 23:20Speaker 1: are going to die. Even her Mentor says, like, cardiac
- 23:24Speaker 1: disease is the number one cause of death among adults.
- 23:26Speaker 1: So you know your patients are going to die, you
- 23:28Speaker 1: know when they come to you.
- 23:29Speaker 3: It's big. But is it okay?
- 23:33Speaker 1: I did everything I could, and sometimes everything I could
- 23:36Speaker 1: is not enough? Or is it I didn't do everything
- 23:39Speaker 1: I could. I made a very big mistake. And perhaps
- 23:43Speaker 1: his cardiac issue wouldn't have been the thing that killed him.
- 23:48Speaker 3: It was the car accident, any fault.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a good point. I hadn't looked at it fully,
- 23:55Speaker 2: you know, I only looked at it as her being
- 23:58Speaker 2: a doctor and losing a patient, not that she was
- 24:03Speaker 2: struggling with being responsible for it. Yeah, good points. I
- 24:08Speaker 2: could have done without that kid, Like I didn't need
- 24:10Speaker 2: that whole storyline. Like the movie overall kind of had
- 24:14Speaker 2: like a lot of like spokes, you know what I mean.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Like they had like the engagement and then his kid,
- 24:23Speaker 2: and then I had like her career, and then it
- 24:27Speaker 2: had the Henry storyline. It was kind of a lot
- 24:31Speaker 2: too much. I'm gonna say, perhaps I just I don't
- 24:37Speaker 2: like kids.
- 24:38Speaker 3: In movies. You don't like children. I know.
- 24:41Speaker 2: It's not true. I have a child.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Sure, you don't like oh people's children, you just don't
- 24:46Speaker 1: want to see them on screen. Look, I'm just giving
- 24:49Speaker 1: you a hard time. It's funny that you say that
- 24:51Speaker 1: you felt like it had too much, because I felt
- 24:54Speaker 1: like the pacing of this movie was spot on and
- 24:58Speaker 1: I did not feel like they were trying to do
- 25:00Speaker 1: too much, except for there was one odd scene in
- 25:03Speaker 1: the beginning, like I did not understand the airport greeting scene.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that was weird, And then they.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Jumped to her job, like I don't know why we
- 25:11Speaker 1: couldn't have just gone straight to her with him at
- 25:16Speaker 1: the soccer game, which is the next time we see
- 25:18Speaker 1: them together, and it makes it very clear that they're
- 25:20Speaker 1: a couple.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Anyway, I feel like they were just trying to show
- 25:23Speaker 2: us that he was a pilot. You know, it wasn't necessary.
- 25:26Speaker 2: They could have like.
- 25:28Speaker 1: No, and that could have cooked at any point, like
- 25:30Speaker 1: I leave it on a trip, I got a fly.
- 25:31Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 25:32Speaker 1: I felt like that was that was the one noticeably
- 25:35Speaker 1: out of place, what's happening here?
- 25:37Speaker 3: Confusing scene?
- 25:38Speaker 2: For me?
- 25:39Speaker 1: Let's do did you see that and I like to
- 25:41Speaker 1: do sometimes my did you see that?
- 25:43Speaker 3: Via notable tweets?
- 25:45Speaker 1: Okay, I'd like to start with one by tweeter. One
- 25:52Speaker 1: kiss means forever? Did she get a fruit plate and
- 25:56Speaker 1: then steal his cake? Just get the cake?
- 25:58Speaker 2: Girl?
- 25:58Speaker 3: Be happy?
- 26:00Speaker 2: Oh? Yes, I was like, how depressing is that? Yeah,
- 26:05Speaker 2: don't get a fruit plate, like a sad bowl of
- 26:08Speaker 2: fruit like she's like a gluten free you know.
- 26:10Speaker 3: Fruit salad.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Yes, especially they're at like a nice restaurant, you know, like.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Eat the cake.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Totally. This movie took place in Portland, Oregon. Yeah, were
- 26:26Speaker 2: we to believe that was like Portland PDX Airport? Oh?
- 26:33Speaker 1: That tiny little I honestly thought they were in Alaska.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I thought it was like some small podunk because it
- 26:38Speaker 1: was called like Caribou air or something was it.
- 26:41Speaker 2: I didn't even notice that. I know there was some
- 26:43Speaker 2: sort of like sign she was standing next to you,
- 26:45Speaker 2: but I can't remember what it said.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, if you're gonna pretend to be in
- 26:50Speaker 1: Portland Airport, you gotta get the carpet right.
- 26:52Speaker 2: You have to have the carpet right. Everybody knows, well
- 26:56Speaker 2: not everybody. Everybody who flies through Portland knows how famous
- 26:59Speaker 2: they are for their carpet there, so you can't. That's
- 27:03Speaker 2: a miss for me, indeed, a huge miss. Details, people,
- 27:09Speaker 2: I want details.
- 27:11Speaker 1: I have another tweet from now watching X Miss who says,
- 27:14Speaker 1: I don't know that I'd want to be on a
- 27:16Speaker 1: flight where the captain was dealing with a breakup right outside.
- 27:20Speaker 2: That's fair, that's totally fair.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's like his fiance. It's a big breakup.
- 27:25Speaker 1: So maybe time that better, Andy, I know well, And.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Again I was like, she's so shook by this whole
- 27:32Speaker 2: death thing that she breaks off her engagement, Like you
- 27:34Speaker 2: need to lean hard into the people who care for you, dude,
- 27:38Speaker 2: Like what is she doing?
- 27:39Speaker 1: Yes, because he was the ultimate good dude in this movie,
- 27:42Speaker 1: Like she loses his kid in a sports arena, and
- 27:45Speaker 1: he's like, it happens to everybody. And while I agree
- 27:49Speaker 1: with him, like that could happen to anybody, any parent,
- 27:51Speaker 1: We've all turned around for a second and then all
- 27:53Speaker 1: of a sudden, like, where's my kid? Right? I just
- 27:55Speaker 1: tell me that that's happened to everybody. Of course, yes,
- 27:58Speaker 1: but it's so easy to do in that moment. I'm
- 28:01Speaker 1: not sure that I would have extended so much grace
- 28:04Speaker 1: to the person who was watching my children. Right, but
- 28:08Speaker 1: he was lovely and supportive and wonderful and ready to
- 28:12Speaker 1: just weather the storm, knowing that it was maybe going
- 28:15Speaker 1: to get ugly. And she was like, Nah, I'm gonna
- 28:17Speaker 1: do this on my own, in my sad, little alone house,
- 28:20Speaker 1: bad bad choices.
- 28:22Speaker 2: Okay, I have a question, now, would a doctor even
- 28:25Speaker 2: know that a patient had a driver's license? I don't
- 28:28Speaker 2: think I've ever been asked by any doctor if I
- 28:30Speaker 2: if I drive.
- 28:32Speaker 3: Well, the question is, wouldn't they just assume that you do?
- 28:37Speaker 2: Probably? And she assumed that he did not, Right, Okay,
- 28:43Speaker 2: totally fair. I just it was so is it enough
- 28:48Speaker 2: to lose a medical license that kind of error?
- 28:52Speaker 1: Well, I don't know how this works, but I would
- 28:56Speaker 1: say that sometimes you're taking medicine doesn't allow you to drive,
- 29:01Speaker 1: or you have surgery and you can't drive for a
- 29:02Speaker 1: certain number of hours after, and if the doctor doesn't
- 29:06Speaker 1: tell you and then you do and then you die,
- 29:09Speaker 1: I think the doctor's a fault.
- 29:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 29:11Speaker 2: I don't know. I would love like to know some
- 29:14Speaker 2: real life cases. There's got to be I'm sure the
- 29:17Speaker 2: writer of this didn't just pulled this out of thin air.
- 29:19Speaker 2: There's got to be something right.
- 29:21Speaker 1: That's a good point because she's not new to this
- 29:24Speaker 1: type of writing. I also wondered why, you know, she
- 29:27Speaker 1: gave him her cell phone number, but why she didn't say,
- 29:29Speaker 1: if you can't reach me, please call nine one one.
- 29:31Speaker 2: I wondered the same thing. I was like, where is
- 29:34Speaker 2: he going? Why is he getting in his car? Call
- 29:36Speaker 2: nine one.
- 29:37Speaker 1: One, Because she says to the woman at the beginning
- 29:40Speaker 1: of the movie, she does surgery on a man having
- 29:43Speaker 1: a heart attack, and she says, you did the right
- 29:45Speaker 1: thing by calling the ambulance. She needs to tell this dude, like,
- 29:49Speaker 1: if you can't reach me, call nine one one. That's
- 29:52Speaker 1: the right thing to do and they'll help you. So
- 29:57Speaker 1: that I think is the bigger flaw than not.
- 30:01Speaker 3: Telling him not to drive. They go hand in hand.
- 30:03Speaker 1: Yeah, but I think, like you said, they were trying
- 30:07Speaker 1: to paint the picture of she was making assumptions about
- 30:10Speaker 1: his abilities and it backfired.
- 30:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was just wondering if like it
- 30:19Speaker 2: was enough to lose a medical license because like you know,
- 30:22Speaker 2: that doctor death, he was like straight up paralyzing people
- 30:25Speaker 2: and like continue to work, you know. So I'm like,
- 30:30Speaker 2: after one, like you know. I don't know. It just
- 30:33Speaker 2: made me wonder. But she doesn't lose her license, No,
- 30:37Speaker 2: she doesn't. But I honestly thought, like, maybe she should quit.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I honestly thought she should quit cardiology and be a
- 30:43Speaker 2: doctor doing something like a family practice, doing something else
- 30:46Speaker 2: or you know.
- 30:47Speaker 1: Okay, but they should have sent her to therapy. That
- 30:50Speaker 1: should have been one of the conditions of her return.
- 30:53Speaker 2: I agree, you need.
- 30:54Speaker 1: To process this, you need especially once she came back
- 30:58Speaker 1: and she's like terrifying her patience. It's like, oh, death
- 31:02Speaker 1: is imminent, let's run all of these tests.
- 31:05Speaker 2: That would be me. I would be that patient going
- 31:08Speaker 2: like is something wrong? What's going on? Like whorish you
- 31:11Speaker 2: would be?
- 31:11Speaker 1: Who wouldn't be You're in your cardiologist office and now
- 31:15Speaker 1: all of a sudden they're telling you they need all
- 31:17Speaker 1: of these tests.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Yes, you would be freaked out.
- 31:21Speaker 2: I think we're going to be on opposite ends of
- 31:23Speaker 2: the spectrum here.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I have much like warming up to you.
- 31:29Speaker 1: As mentioned in my dual first impressions, I have conflicting
- 31:33Speaker 1: feelings about this movie. Because I'm gonna give it a
- 31:37Speaker 1: rating with an asterisk. Okay, because I'm going to rate
- 31:42Speaker 1: the movie overall is the experience watching it, but noting
- 31:46Speaker 1: that I believe that there is one very problematic element.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Fair Okay, totally fair.
- 31:51Speaker 1: My rating is three point five with an asterisk.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Ooh, I have three point seventy five. Whow I thought I.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Did.
- 32:01Speaker 3: I did too.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Now, next week we have something really interesting happening. We
- 32:04Speaker 1: have two movies again, Romance to the Rescue on Hallmark
- 32:07Speaker 1: Channel and Rip in Time on Hallmark Movies and Mysteries. Now,
- 32:13Speaker 1: you stated in this episode that you believe Hallmark Movies
- 32:16Speaker 1: and Mysteries movies are often this year, sometimes better than
- 32:20Speaker 1: the movies on the Hallmark Channel. Now this is a
- 32:24Speaker 1: tough one because we got this dog movie and we
- 32:29Speaker 1: have a time travel Rip Round Winkled Junior movie.
- 32:33Speaker 2: It's it's a double stinker of a weekend.
- 32:35Speaker 3: I think it could go either way. I don't know.
- 32:39Speaker 1: I like me all matter. I'm willing to give them
- 32:43Speaker 1: both the chance, but they're not. I I'm not currently
- 32:49Speaker 1: optimistic about the fate of this next weekend.
- 32:52Speaker 3: Okay, let me Memorial Day.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I don't think they buried them because it's Memorial Day weekend. Perhaps, yeah,
- 32:58Speaker 2: because who's gonna be sorry?
- 33:00Speaker 3: Rip in Time?
- 33:01Speaker 2: Okay, First of all, I really don't want to watch
- 33:03Speaker 2: a dog rescue movie. I really don't want to, but
- 33:07Speaker 2: I will. It's cute dog, but it's not a beagle.
- 33:11Speaker 1: And.
- 33:13Speaker 3: Because beagles are dumb.
- 33:14Speaker 2: I don't know who those actors are. It just I
- 33:18Speaker 2: just it looks terrible, okay, And then the rip Van
- 33:22Speaker 2: Winkle rip in time or whatever the commercial actually looks
- 33:26Speaker 2: kind of funny, with the exception of the line is
- 33:31Speaker 2: there's a homeless guy in our garage or something like that, right,
- 33:34Speaker 2: which I just recently listened to on another podcast that
- 33:38Speaker 2: there is a trend away from the term homeless, houseless, unhoused,
- 33:46Speaker 2: unhoused is what it is.
- 33:48Speaker 1: Yes, so I expect Hallmark to be up with the
- 33:51Speaker 1: non problematic language after the last few weeks.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I know, I don't know, like anyway, I mean,
- 34:01Speaker 2: it's kind of a funny line and it is like,
- 34:03Speaker 2: who's this dude out in our backyard or whatever? But
- 34:06Speaker 2: right I I don't like time travel movies.
- 34:12Speaker 3: Fair.
- 34:13Speaker 1: Did you see that they're rebooting Time Traveler's Wife as
- 34:18Speaker 1: a series That was a movie, right? I mean it
- 34:22Speaker 1: was a book and then it was that was.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Made into a movie that I never read or saw.
- 34:28Speaker 1: The book's good, the movie less good.
- 34:32Speaker 2: And so they're rebooting it into a series for what network?
- 34:36Speaker 3: HBO?
- 34:37Speaker 2: Oh interesting, who's the actor is attached to that? Rose
- 34:41Speaker 2: Leslie and THEO James two people I do not know.
- 34:46Speaker 2: THEO James was in Divergent. Don't watch that show either.
- 34:52Speaker 1: I know, big fan of dystopian young adult fiction that
- 34:55Speaker 1: you are. The Divergent series was a series of books
- 34:58Speaker 1: that then were turned into movies.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Not for me, I know.
- 35:02Speaker 2: So it's safe to say we'll be back next week
- 35:04Speaker 2: with two movie reviews.
- 35:07Speaker 1: I don't know, because that's the first week of June.
- 35:10Speaker 1: We're gonna do our best, guys, We're gonna do our best.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Yeah, we're busy, busy. Mom's over here, guys.
- 35:15Speaker 1: Thank you so much for listening to this episode of
- 35:17Speaker 1: the podcast. If you like us, if you like our podcast,
- 35:20Speaker 1: we love your five star ratings and reviews that you
- 35:22Speaker 1: can leave right in the Apple podcast app, and Spotify
- 35:26Speaker 1: allows ratings now too, so we love them. Thank you
- 35:29Speaker 1: so much for listening. Have a great weekend, everybody. Goodbye bye.
