- 1:00Speaker 3: four finger discounted.
- 1:18Speaker 1: Welcome to fourthing, a discount where this week we're here
- 1:20Speaker 1: to review a somewhat controversial episode of The Simpsons. To me, though,
- 1:24Speaker 1: feels like it came about four or five years too late.
- 1:26Speaker 1: It is my Pods and Boomsticks. I'm Dwando and I'm Guy. Yes,
- 1:29Speaker 1: welcome to the podcast where we think differently.
- 1:33Speaker 4: Yes, it felt like a real time capsule this episode.
- 1:36Speaker 4: But also, I don't know, startlingly relevant.
- 1:41Speaker 1: Weird because I'm watching this going okay because this is
- 1:43Speaker 1: back when and this kind of stuff is still relevant today.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I'm not saying it's not right with the racism towards
- 1:48Speaker 1: the Muslim community and whatnot, but it just feels like
- 1:51Speaker 1: it was really heated post nine to eleven. She's two
- 1:54Speaker 1: thousand and one, two thousand and three, fourths when it
- 1:56Speaker 1: really felt like it was just all eyes on and
- 1:59Speaker 1: everyone was being scrutinized, and it was just everywhere right
- 2:02Speaker 1: throughout the community for obvious reasons. I'm not saying as
- 2:05Speaker 1: right or wrong, but that's what happened. Right this came
- 2:08Speaker 1: out in two thousand and eight. To this episode, I
- 2:10Speaker 1: feel like The Simpsons are really known for I know
- 2:13Speaker 1: it takes so long to make an episode, but it
- 2:16Speaker 1: feels like they really they don't cash in much like
- 2:18Speaker 1: because we do South Park right, and they cash in
- 2:19Speaker 1: because of the way they make the show The Simpsons
- 2:21Speaker 1: always feels like they're eighteen months past the mark. They
- 2:24Speaker 1: did an episode of in the new season where they
- 2:26Speaker 1: were talking about I actually it was Futurama. If Trum
- 2:29Speaker 1: is a similar sort of time schedule, Yeah, making an
- 2:32Speaker 1: episode without talking about NFTs. NFTs were dead by the
- 2:36Speaker 1: time this episode came out. They went and everyone's going, Ah,
- 2:39Speaker 1: this would have been relevant eighteen months ago when you
- 2:40Speaker 1: were writing it, But now when it's released, this feels
- 2:43Speaker 1: really dated. Now. I don't know whether this would have
- 2:46Speaker 1: felt data because as I said, it's still prominent in
- 2:48Speaker 1: the community, but it just feels like if they had
- 2:50Speaker 1: a cash in two or three years earlier, this would
- 2:52Speaker 1: have really been a not a classic episode. But I
- 2:54Speaker 1: really talked about one.
- 2:55Speaker 4: Look, there's stuff that evergreen topics unfortunately, racism, prejudice, and
- 2:59Speaker 4: power Annoyer topics that never really go out of fashion,
- 3:03Speaker 4: sad to say, But at the same time, this feels
- 3:07Speaker 4: like it's trying to tackle it in a very relevant
- 3:09Speaker 4: and very of the moment kind of way.
- 3:12Speaker 1: The moment was four years ago.
- 3:13Speaker 4: Yeah, as you said, there's a lot of prep work,
- 3:16Speaker 4: there's a lot of you know, there's devising stories, there's
- 3:19Speaker 4: writing scripts, there's the animation.
- 3:21Speaker 1: The animation.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Yeah, of course it's going to take a while, but
- 3:24Speaker 4: it's that's usually around eighteen months or so according to you.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I mean, it's nine months to make it, but we're
- 3:30Speaker 1: going to write it as well, be four.
- 3:32Speaker 4: Or five years off the pace. Yeah, yeah, I mean
- 3:36Speaker 4: you'd be looking at it. As I said, this felt
- 3:38Speaker 4: like a time capsule. Wuld have felt like a time
- 3:40Speaker 4: capsule back in two thousand and eight.
- 3:42Speaker 1: Maybe it was one of those ones where they thought
- 3:44Speaker 1: they were sitting on it for a while, do we
- 3:46Speaker 1: do we not? And they finally pulled the trigger, but
- 3:49Speaker 1: you don't. Don't do it? Then, don't pull the trigger
- 3:51Speaker 1: this late because watching it in retrospect, I'm not gonna lie. Well,
- 3:54Speaker 1: NiCl I'm watching it and bet with Nicola, right, and
- 3:56Speaker 1: Nicholas sort of just listening to it but not really
- 3:58Speaker 1: watching it, and she's just going, is the point of
- 4:01Speaker 1: this meant to be that it's just ridiculously offensive or
- 4:03Speaker 1: that is being offensive? No? No, no, that's the joke here,
- 4:06Speaker 1: and she goes, okay, good, because you can't say any
- 4:08Speaker 1: of this stuff anymore. You can say any of this
- 4:10Speaker 1: stuff then.
- 4:13Speaker 4: No, I mean it feels very I think they're covering
- 4:16Speaker 4: their ass by making Homer the dumbest person.
- 4:19Speaker 1: That annoyed me first and foremost because I went, you're
- 4:23Speaker 1: just you're making home of the most obnoxious racist jerk
- 4:26Speaker 1: in the world, right, But it's also he's just oblivious,
- 4:29Speaker 1: and I get why they had to use Homer because
- 4:32Speaker 1: he is the show and by this point, by this point,
- 4:34Speaker 1: he's a joke anyway, That's what I mean.
- 4:36Speaker 4: Homer is, of course, as I didn't mean just the
- 4:39Speaker 4: dumbest person on the planet for this episode. I mean
- 4:41Speaker 4: generally he's kind of like this guy's not bright but
- 4:44Speaker 4: also just easily led.
- 4:45Speaker 1: I think is more where what this episode is to Yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 1: which I think is important that he didn't originally think
- 4:52Speaker 1: this way until his friends convinced him to think that way,
- 4:55Speaker 1: that the idiots from the bar they made him go, oh,
- 4:58Speaker 1: you're right, because he wasn't not in any way bothered
- 5:02Speaker 1: by Bashir and he liked Bishia.
- 5:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 4: Absolutely, I found it a little odd and maybe a
- 5:07Speaker 4: little off putting. There need to be another link in
- 5:09Speaker 4: the chain in what sense, Well, Homer gets converted by
- 5:14Speaker 4: Lenny and Karl at the bar. I get the thing
- 5:17Speaker 4: I would have liked to have seen Lenni and Carl
- 5:19Speaker 4: be converted by something like mass media.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Or what they do that's they do it in that scene.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Are they in that scene? I mean, Lenny and Karl
- 5:27Speaker 1: are But Homer says, I need to see something from
- 5:29Speaker 1: a fictional TV show that's going to improve your theories
- 5:32Speaker 1: twenty four.
- 5:33Speaker 4: It just feels I could draw my own conclusions. I
- 5:35Speaker 4: could sort of make the mental lead that, oh, okay,
- 5:38Speaker 4: Lenny and Carl have probably been.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Watching their version of twenty four or just plan on
- 5:42Speaker 1: twenty four, so you need it, or an immiganst kind
- 5:44Speaker 1: of scene. You mean, yeah, yeah, I needed.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Like Fox News on in Most Heaven, and you maybe
- 5:51Speaker 4: needed to sort of going on and on. So there's
- 5:53Speaker 4: just this constant hum of propaganda and everyone sort of
- 5:58Speaker 4: gets infected by it and picks up on.
- 5:59Speaker 1: It and they pass it on to bamble. It's like
- 6:01Speaker 1: a virus. It goes viral because kids watching this probably
- 6:04Speaker 1: wouldn't get why they're thinking this way, because obviously, in
- 6:07Speaker 1: the community in America predominantly many people were thought and
- 6:11Speaker 1: were Lenny and Carl esque in the real world right
- 6:14Speaker 1: the way that their their thought process. Kids, though, don't
- 6:16Speaker 1: think that way unless they're told to think that. If
- 6:20Speaker 1: you're just, if you're just a normal keep watching the show,
- 6:22Speaker 1: you go, why were he and Carl jerks all of
- 6:24Speaker 1: a sudden, why they think this way? You're right, So
- 6:26Speaker 1: they need to sort of set up why they're thinking
- 6:28Speaker 1: this way because they're easily swayed by the media, or if.
- 6:31Speaker 4: You're going to have you Lenny and Carl being prejudiced
- 6:34Speaker 4: from the jump, I've not explored that a little bit more,
- 6:38Speaker 4: a little bit further down the line, or have them
- 6:39Speaker 4: explained why that's the case.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Or maybe you could have had because they didn't touch
- 6:44Speaker 1: on the fact that the Muslim family don't what's their
- 6:47Speaker 1: last name, it's been Ladin, don't drink alcohole. So maybe
- 6:52Speaker 1: that could have been a reason for Lenny and Carl
- 6:54Speaker 1: to go, can't trust this guy and then sort of
- 6:56Speaker 1: just spirals from there. Maybe I don't.
- 6:57Speaker 4: Know, true, Yeah, I mean, I think you maybe need
- 6:59Speaker 4: to also addressed the real resurgency. We just talked about
- 7:03Speaker 4: this on an episode of Going Down to South Park
- 7:05Speaker 4: where it's you know, I'm a little bit country, I'm
- 7:07Speaker 4: a little bit rock and roll, and if you don't
- 7:08Speaker 4: like Murray.
- 7:09Speaker 1: You can get out.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean South Park is not well. Sometimes South
- 7:14Speaker 4: Park is not very subtle at all. Sometimes that lack
- 7:17Speaker 4: of suddenly actually works really well. And there was a
- 7:19Speaker 4: whole lot of feeling in the States and the Western
- 7:22Speaker 4: world of like, you don't like democracy, well you can
- 7:25Speaker 4: just get out.
- 7:27Speaker 1: So just like that very much.
- 7:33Speaker 4: It was really weird in Australia when you know, John
- 7:35Speaker 4: Howard and Kevin Rudd were doing it.
- 7:40Speaker 1: But it just struck me as a little bit. It's
- 7:43Speaker 1: not that you had to be there, a lot of
- 7:47Speaker 1: people were there, but.
- 7:50Speaker 4: A little more, a little more context might have been
- 7:52Speaker 4: needed in the in the framework of telling this entire story,
- 7:55Speaker 4: as opposed to just well, this is the way we're
- 7:57Speaker 4: thinking now. In eight to whatever, two thousand and eight,
- 8:01Speaker 4: or even just in the the early two thousand through
- 8:04Speaker 4: to this period, there was this feeling of paranoid and
- 8:07Speaker 4: prejudice in the air, and whilst we need a little context,
- 8:10Speaker 4: it still does so needed to add some context. It
- 8:12Speaker 4: still does exist, obviously still does exist.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Right, it's never going out of stuff, It's never going
- 8:17Speaker 1: to go out. But I do feel like the inclusiveness
- 8:20Speaker 1: is much more prominent now where kids are now taught
- 8:22Speaker 1: to be inclusive everybody and it's normal. It's been more
- 8:26Speaker 1: normalized too, Like in Australia it was always you know,
- 8:28Speaker 1: the Indigenous community, they weren't respected in the way they
- 8:31Speaker 1: should have been. Kids. Now you know, welcome to country,
- 8:33Speaker 1: that kind of thing. It's just become normalized, which is great. Sure,
- 8:36Speaker 1: so watched kids watching this episode, though Aliot would watch
- 8:38Speaker 1: this and go, why is everyone so mean? Because he's
- 8:41Speaker 1: just not used to he didn't live through that era.
- 8:43Speaker 4: Yeah, but at the same time, you know, I fairly
- 8:44Speaker 4: it's watching the news right now. Yeah, you're going to
- 8:47Speaker 4: be seeing Okay, why are people you spraying anti Semitic
- 8:51Speaker 4: signals on synagogues or Jewish schools or Jewish community centers
- 8:56Speaker 4: or whatever, because.
- 8:59Speaker 1: There's always a target. Because there's always a target.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Man.
- 9:02Speaker 4: Yeah, as they've always say, you know, you want to
- 9:04Speaker 4: if you're a politician, you want to get people on
- 9:06Speaker 4: his eye. You do give someone to be people to hate,
- 9:08Speaker 4: or someone to be scared of.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I'm not going to lie. I actually thought they did
- 9:11Speaker 1: a pretty decent job of this. If you're going to
- 9:14Speaker 1: do this theme, regardless of being late, and I actually
- 9:17Speaker 1: thought that they handled it quite well. Home was a
- 9:19Speaker 1: bit over the top, but I think that's what's needed
- 9:22Speaker 1: in a comedy.
- 9:23Speaker 4: Well, religious and hatred are kind of over the top.
- 9:26Speaker 4: These are not passive emotions. No, no, they're not rational
- 9:29Speaker 4: at all.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You tend to you tend to go big or go home. Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:33Speaker 1: And I didn't really like the end because it's just
- 9:36Speaker 1: I didn't mind the slapstick of Homer listening in the
- 9:38Speaker 1: window and him not hearing certa passive conversation. That's just
- 9:40Speaker 1: just that's classics. But then for him to go to
- 9:44Speaker 1: the mall and run in and blow I thought this
- 9:46Speaker 1: is just a bit silly. It's just it's a bit
- 9:50Speaker 1: over the top that he's able to just grab this
- 9:53Speaker 1: dynamite and run off with something. Ah, it's all a
- 9:56Speaker 1: bit much. I like the bones of it. I like
- 9:58Speaker 1: the idea.
- 9:59Speaker 4: It's like Homer misunderstands to such a degree that, yeah,
- 10:03Speaker 4: he thinks he's being a hero, thinks he's saying that,
- 10:05Speaker 4: he thinks he's Jack Bauer by. Oh, you're trying to
- 10:08Speaker 4: blow up a Springfield monument of Springfield Land like a maul.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, they give her cookie samples whatever it was. Oh, yeah,
- 10:14Speaker 1: that's true.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Great brief side track, Lou was talking about how she
- 10:22Speaker 4: and some of her friends were just talking about Malls
- 10:25Speaker 4: unprompted the other day and.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Just like, oh god, we loved Mauls. That was so
- 10:28Speaker 1: great when you could actually go and hang out there
- 10:30Speaker 1: and shops were open, and we're just like, oh, were
- 10:32Speaker 1: those people who are just nostalgic for the for the bland,
- 10:36Speaker 1: sterile shopping experience, But you know, we were just consumerous
- 10:40Speaker 1: longing for nineties consumerism and commercialist. Do you know what
- 10:44Speaker 1: I think would have been a cool job in the nineties,
- 10:46Speaker 1: And it sounds ridiculous, but being the guy that created
- 10:49Speaker 1: a playlist for Mauls, because you're going to set the mood.
- 10:52Speaker 1: All right, it's Saturday. What do people want to hear
- 10:53Speaker 1: on a Saturday at two o'clock. Well, we talk about
- 10:56Speaker 1: you know, the cold just up the street without our
- 10:59Speaker 1: friend Pale Guy. I saw him yesterday. You go to Cols,
- 11:01Speaker 1: you'll see him. Yeah, I almost said hello to him.
- 11:05Speaker 1: He doesn't know you.
- 11:07Speaker 4: We constantly have to keep ourselves in check when when
- 11:10Speaker 4: when we go to that particular coals because he has
- 11:12Speaker 4: there's Pale Guy, who's great mask guy who we don't trust.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I haven't seen him for a while, but Pale Guy
- 11:18Speaker 1: was greenny people at the door. I'm like, of course he,
- 11:20Speaker 1: of course he's green people at all. That guy.
- 11:22Speaker 4: I'm betting he listens to like, you know, Scott Galloway
- 11:25Speaker 4: or some grind set mentor who is kind of like
- 11:28Speaker 4: you know, there's dignity in all labor, and if you
- 11:31Speaker 4: take your job seriously, you can work out the ladder.
- 11:33Speaker 4: You know, nothing wrong with being.
- 11:35Speaker 1: The manager at the produce section at the Coals on
- 11:39Speaker 1: Shannon Avenue.
- 11:40Speaker 4: Is it perfectly a good job? He's like, yeah, you're right.
- 11:43Speaker 4: You know, I'm never going to be fortune five hundred
- 11:45Speaker 4: buck you ma'am, and I'm going to run this coals
- 11:47Speaker 4: like a well ol machine for pale Guy. Yeah, but yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 4: something they had playing there. You know generally you think
- 11:53Speaker 4: at a supermarket or a store it's music.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Well, it used to be new Zak. You're aware term musak.
- 11:59Speaker 4: Yes, some some of our listeners may not, but it
- 12:01Speaker 4: was it just bland, sort of auto tuned remixes of
- 12:07Speaker 4: actual songs. And they have to pay royalties.
- 12:10Speaker 1: It was royalty free pop songs.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Correct, Yes, And now Cole's has what Cole's radio, which
- 12:16Speaker 4: is actual songs, and they've got some semi familiar voice saying, hey,
- 12:21Speaker 4: welcome to Cole's Radio. And while you're an L four
- 12:23Speaker 4: check out, we've got special Impasta and now he's the
- 12:27Speaker 4: captain of Tanil or something that they wish start playing
- 12:30Speaker 4: something as cool asil. Why are we talking about this
- 12:33Speaker 4: because he had more music.
- 12:35Speaker 1: That'd be great, that'd be a pretty sweet gig.
- 12:39Speaker 4: As I'm always low, as I always like to say,
- 12:42Speaker 4: we used to make things in this country.
- 12:44Speaker 1: We did, indeed, But you mentioned twenty four before. Now
- 12:46Speaker 1: the guest star of this episode, who plays the wife Mina,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I'm not even gonna try and pronoun her name, shashloum. Okay, yes,
- 12:54Speaker 1: so she was I only watched the first season of
- 12:56Speaker 1: twenty four. She wasn't in the first season.
- 12:57Speaker 4: No, No, she was in a few like in because
- 13:00Speaker 4: twenty four, a few seasons six He was like, yeah,
- 13:05Speaker 4: maybe like three to six or something like that.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 13:08Speaker 4: But an Iranian Iranian actor or Iranian American, shall we say,
- 13:12Speaker 4: because I think she was born in Iran and immigrated
- 13:15Speaker 4: to America maybe in the late seventies or early eighties
- 13:18Speaker 4: or something.
- 13:18Speaker 1: It's okay, we claim Russell Crowe.
- 13:19Speaker 4: Correct, Yeah, so not anymore. Yeah, but Russell Coe actually
- 13:26Speaker 4: actually a ki We.
- 13:28Speaker 1: But did we claim mel Gibson for a while? Oh yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 1: but he's not. We don't really do it anymore. But
- 13:35Speaker 1: he is not. But he's not. Where's he from? Well,
- 13:39Speaker 1: he was born in America, but he wasn't raised a show,
- 13:42Speaker 1: was he? I think for the most part. Yeah, I've
- 13:44Speaker 1: forgotten when his family actually immigrated here. But so much
- 13:47Speaker 1: abat thinking what possessed mel Gibson to come to Australia
- 13:50Speaker 1: from America and make this fucking whack movie.
- 13:53Speaker 4: I don't realize he lived here. Yeah, no, I think
- 13:56Speaker 4: the I think he probably came. He might have been
- 13:59Speaker 4: either a child or a young teenager. Okay, because you
- 14:03Speaker 4: know he attended night of the main drama school here
- 14:06Speaker 4: in Australia. I think it was like roommates with Jeffrey
- 14:08Speaker 4: Rush as well, talk about a couple of canceled.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Dudes under the one roof job as.
- 14:18Speaker 4: First of all, that woman's got a voice like but yeah,
- 14:21Speaker 4: but she's Yeah, she's a really really good actor.
- 14:23Speaker 1: She's been a bunch of stuff.
- 14:25Speaker 4: I think she was Oscar nominated for really yeah, a
- 14:29Speaker 4: movie called House of Sand and Fog.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Okay, I've never seen that film, but yeah, doing a
- 14:34Speaker 1: guy's girlfriend Jennifer Conley, Okay, she is your girlfriend. Do
- 14:43Speaker 1: you have any favorite moments from the episode. I did
- 14:45Speaker 1: have one or two.
- 14:49Speaker 4: I like that the bullies, Yeah, they don't really care
- 14:52Speaker 4: about They just want to beat up on anyone who's
- 14:55Speaker 4: not them.
- 14:56Speaker 1: This was a better use of the boys that we've
- 14:57Speaker 1: had in a long time, I think, because lately, really
- 15:00Speaker 1: it feels like they've got no idea what to do
- 15:02Speaker 1: with them anymore. This that was used right, just making bullies. Yeah,
- 15:05Speaker 1: and the little bullies just want a bully. They don't
- 15:07Speaker 1: need it just for cash. They don't need a reason.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I don't want to bully you.
- 15:10Speaker 4: But it's great because they he says his name, But
- 15:14Speaker 4: it's like Bashir, I like a kid that comes with instructions.
- 15:16Speaker 4: That's actually pretty good luck. Yeah, that's a very funny
- 15:19Speaker 4: line when Bashir comes to the Simpson household, bills is
- 15:26Speaker 4: looking good.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Yeah, your skin.
- 15:29Speaker 4: Color's got contacts, skin colors looking good?
- 15:33Speaker 1: You catch phase. I think maybe it was a very
- 15:37Speaker 1: throwaway line, but it was.
- 15:39Speaker 4: It just really was emblematic of all the like twenty
- 15:44Speaker 4: four born identity, all this kind of stuff. It's on
- 15:47Speaker 4: the computer at the at the bin laden household chess
- 15:50Speaker 4: presses on terms of I mean, because I think I've
- 15:58Speaker 4: done that plenty of times. When it's like a bonet, Yeah,
- 16:00Speaker 4: I'm on the Google. I mean you're typing away best
- 16:05Speaker 4: risotto recipe. Well, you know you've got like the two
- 16:09Speaker 4: keyboards going like Hugh Jackman's Swordfish Yeah, a date.
- 16:15Speaker 1: I love the fact that he was typing away doing
- 16:17Speaker 1: all his clicking and stuff and he just clicked one
- 16:19Speaker 1: of the things on the desktop. Anyway, It's like how
- 16:21Speaker 1: many times you watch a movie and they're fucking doing
- 16:23Speaker 1: all this and it's like, that's not doing anything.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Oh yeah, hacking is the least cinematic, least compelling.
- 16:30Speaker 1: Yes, kind of. You have to, you have to really
- 16:33Speaker 1: ramp it up. It's likely to make lies.
- 16:36Speaker 4: It's just you know, it's that guy from the Simpsons
- 16:38Speaker 4: who the I'm sorry, it's that guy from south Park,
- 16:40Speaker 4: the gamer that you know, Yeah, the really sort of
- 16:43Speaker 4: sloven with a risk. All do you respect a coder's
- 16:48Speaker 4: out there? You're doing better than me, Well, well you're.
- 16:51Speaker 1: Used to it. I took your job. Bad luck. Nerd.
- 16:57Speaker 4: Sorry, yeah, I imagine they take unbridge at that. But yeah, coding,
- 17:04Speaker 4: I think is just a lot of I'm at the
- 17:05Speaker 4: keyboard and I'm just entering lines, lines, lines on it.
- 17:08Speaker 1: It's not I love it when you're watching a sitcom
- 17:12Speaker 1: and people just they so many actors don't know how
- 17:15Speaker 1: to act driving they're doing this, Oh yeah, who does that?
- 17:19Speaker 1: When you're driving? Hold hold a step ten and two.
- 17:21Speaker 1: I just fucking hold it slightly askew. Sometimes they're doing
- 17:25Speaker 1: this and it can't just driving straight? Are you aiming
- 17:28Speaker 1: to hit wild animals? Yeah? What is going running? Trying
- 17:31Speaker 1: to run over that cat? What's wrong with you? I
- 17:33Speaker 1: really liked one of my favorite moments. I liked the
- 17:35Speaker 1: dinner scene. Right. It was all just really well structured,
- 17:38Speaker 1: well book together. So Bart says, don't judge them by
- 17:41Speaker 1: their religion, blah blah blah. And then he says to Bart,
- 17:44Speaker 1: don't you disrespect your father by something in front of
- 17:48Speaker 1: me or whatever. Then grandfather says, I love the way
- 17:50Speaker 1: you Italians think. But then Homer as a further gag
- 17:55Speaker 1: where he says, shut up, old man. It's like Homer
- 17:57Speaker 1: is he tells Bart stop disrespecting Homer for being disrespect
- 18:00Speaker 1: blah blahlah. Then home it's disrespected for his father. It
- 18:03Speaker 1: was just like bang bang, punch on, punch on, punch on.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I thought it was really well put together, that scene.
- 18:07Speaker 1: And I always love a good Homer trying to be
- 18:08Speaker 1: quiet and just making a ship like a noise, but
- 18:10Speaker 1: just the box of symbols, because why not. I I
- 18:15Speaker 1: went to Zing pop culture no sponsors, so I saw
- 18:18Speaker 1: a GiMA shout out because I always cash you when
- 18:21Speaker 1: they do their clearance is because a good way to
- 18:23Speaker 1: run a pop culture store is when shit's not selling
- 18:25Speaker 1: or you've got two ouch of stuff, put it on
- 18:27Speaker 1: clearance and people will buy that ship. That's good. And
- 18:29Speaker 1: that's what I did. And I went in there and
- 18:31Speaker 1: I saw PJ sets down there. There's these PJ sets
- 18:34Speaker 1: down there. I should get one up with. He's not lying,
- 18:36Speaker 1: they're actually there. So this one here I hold up
- 18:39Speaker 1: to the camera is one of cinnamon butters. I've got
- 18:41Speaker 1: this for Nickeola, right, fifty nine dollars brand new, all
- 18:44Speaker 1: PJ sets, nine dollars, it's excuse me, and fifty nine
- 18:49Speaker 1: and I literally just crossed fifty of it. And I
- 18:51Speaker 1: looked at it, and I went, m that's not right.
- 18:54Speaker 1: At must be like select select pj's And I said,
- 18:57Speaker 1: just checking, Like those Simpsons ones aren't nine dollar are they.
- 19:00Speaker 1: She goes, yeah, I'm pretty sure anything on that rex
- 19:02Speaker 1: nine dollars. And I was like, Brendan, don't see anything.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Just quietly put all the pjs on the counter. You
- 19:09Speaker 1: did Homer at the film Persient, I'll take ten. So
- 19:13Speaker 1: I grabbed the Simpsons one. I was like, one was
- 19:16Speaker 1: sixty nine, one was fifty nine, and one was forty nine.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'm like, go, one hundred and eighty bucks worth the
- 19:19Speaker 1: PJS for twenty seven dollars. That's pretty good. It was
- 19:21Speaker 1: pretty good, right, How could you not do if you
- 19:24Speaker 1: if you saw a PJ set that you liked or
- 19:28Speaker 1: we're the Country Road, right, and there was a shirt
- 19:31Speaker 1: that was normally eight dollars and I had it for
- 19:32Speaker 1: nine dollars and you're like this one. She's like, yeah,
- 19:34Speaker 1: You're like, even if I don't want it, I have
- 19:37Speaker 1: to buy it. It's nine dollars. There have been occasions
- 19:40Speaker 1: and that has been the case.
- 19:41Speaker 4: I've been on the clearance side or whatever, and it's like, Okay,
- 19:44Speaker 4: I'm in the market for a black Henley top.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Ah, this is the waffle version. It's not quite it's
- 19:50Speaker 1: a little thicker than I want. One the pancake version.
- 19:52Speaker 4: I wanted that, Yeah, that's correct, one of the meeple
- 19:55Speaker 4: syrup version. It was like, this isn't quite what I wanted,
- 19:58Speaker 4: but it was a dollars and now it's twenty five dollars.
- 20:02Speaker 4: It's like, okay, I'll take the hits because it's not
- 20:05Speaker 4: going to be exactly.
- 20:05Speaker 1: What I wanted, but it's going to be close enough
- 20:07Speaker 1: and for that price. Yes, you are right. Yes, so
- 20:10Speaker 1: I cashed in. You can't came in. You certainly did. Yeah,
- 20:14Speaker 1: and till tails out of school.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Though for a second, you may want to cut this out.
- 20:19Speaker 4: I rocked over to Dando's house today to record this episode.
- 20:22Speaker 1: What are here?
- 20:22Speaker 4: When when I come in? Ah, I've got to fix
- 20:25Speaker 4: the cupboard. My shelf just broke off. So just say
- 20:28Speaker 4: this is where nickol like keeps all ship. You weren't
- 20:30Speaker 4: saying it in a derogatory zens like that was like,
- 20:33Speaker 4: and looking at it's like, oh, yeah, there's a lot
- 20:35Speaker 4: of empty tup of wee containers all that kind of stuff,
- 20:37Speaker 4: all the ship.
- 20:37Speaker 1: That I've got on my every pantry has a shoff
- 20:39Speaker 1: where shit goes to die.
- 20:40Speaker 4: Yeah, And I was about implicit in that statement, was
- 20:43Speaker 4: like we got to throw some of this shit out, and.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Yet I come in. Here's like I bought so many
- 20:48Speaker 1: pairs of pajamas, but I will use them. That's the
- 20:54Speaker 1: thing that's correct.
- 20:55Speaker 4: You're not going to use those that those couple of contains,
- 20:57Speaker 4: but you are going to wear five pairs of.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Nick Well, fuck that. She'll like, we'll go get tie food, right,
- 21:02Speaker 1: and they give them the place of containers and she'll
- 21:04Speaker 1: keep them. Like, Nick, we've got a cover full of
- 21:05Speaker 1: that ship. You still keep all of them. They've got
- 21:08Speaker 1: like tie basil of it on the bottom of them.
- 21:11Speaker 1: I am guilty of this.
- 21:12Speaker 4: I actually just washed the I've got a very nice
- 21:14Speaker 4: tig green carrier from black Basil in in height and
- 21:18Speaker 4: good place front of the pod and a little.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Strip in near pizza. Yeah, they are good.
- 21:23Speaker 4: They are really nice. And I'm like, I've got them
- 21:26Speaker 4: in the sink, Washington. I know it's bad for the
- 21:29Speaker 4: environment to throw these out, but why am I washing them?
- 21:31Speaker 1: These are disposable, they're busty. You just put them in
- 21:33Speaker 1: the recycling Well, are they really going to be recycled,
- 21:36Speaker 1: come on, dand talking about now he's been I'll take
- 21:39Speaker 1: your tinfoil cap off. Let's get a trivia shall we.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Let's there's only so much time on the actually before
- 21:47Speaker 1: we can do that, because I was in one of
- 21:48Speaker 1: my trivia questions. There's a whole aspect of this episode
- 21:50Speaker 1: we haven't even touched on yet. And it's the other
- 21:53Speaker 1: outdated part of this episode. It's Lisa obsessed with my pods.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Slashed eye was Apple Mapple right? So the come out
- 22:00Speaker 1: in two thousand and one. There's a reason we didn't
- 22:02Speaker 1: talk about. It's not that interesting. It's not interesting. But
- 22:05Speaker 1: I'm watching this going, why are you doing this story now?
- 22:08Speaker 1: I was more dumbfounded by that one, going, I get
- 22:11Speaker 1: that the iPhone has just come out, and I guess,
- 22:13Speaker 1: you know, maybe Apple really took off when the iPhone
- 22:16Speaker 1: came out, which is two thousand and seven. This is
- 22:17Speaker 1: too so kind of the time. But still I'm watching
- 22:20Speaker 1: this going, this just feels.
- 22:22Speaker 4: Lame again, feels daylight and dollar short. Yeah, and it
- 22:26Speaker 4: was years late and several dollars short, and it.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Wasn't all that funny. It wasn't it's not taking the
- 22:31Speaker 1: micky out of Apple isn't worthy of an entire storyline. No,
- 22:34Speaker 1: it's almost like they were afraid of Apple and Steve
- 22:37Speaker 1: Jobs and all that.
- 22:37Speaker 4: I mean, they could have turned them into a Hank
- 22:39Speaker 4: Scorpio type and they did to like maybe yeah, No,
- 22:44Speaker 4: they didn't make them an evil genius.
- 22:45Speaker 1: It felt like they was sucking up to Apple. Don't
- 22:46Speaker 1: you Reckon? Kind of yeah, as Almos, they're trying to
- 22:50Speaker 1: take the mickey out of people who are obsessed with Apple,
- 22:53Speaker 1: but they weren't willing to go all the way like
- 22:54Speaker 1: Tray and Mattwood from South Park, like they would really
- 22:57Speaker 1: take them becau is there an Apple based episode of
- 22:59Speaker 1: South Park that have to be Surely we'll get to it.
- 23:01Speaker 4: We'll get to it because we're doing a lot of
- 23:03Speaker 4: episodes of going down to South Puck.

- 23:36Speaker 3: Next question, you there, eating the Beast.
- 23:39Speaker 1: My first question for you is okay, well I'm going
- 23:42Speaker 1: to give you the answer, and you're gonna give me
- 23:45Speaker 1: the question because I can't remember. It is do do
- 23:47Speaker 1: Do Do? Do? Do Do Do do? Jeopardy dipods, sleigh list.
- 23:51Speaker 4: Oh, it's it's the name of the Eaching and Scratch episode.
- 23:54Speaker 4: It is the Hey comic book guy has having a
- 23:57Speaker 4: problem with what version of the operating system?
- 24:00Speaker 1: Oh, I've got no idea. What is that? Four point two?
- 24:03Speaker 1: Four point two? I didn't mind him throwing the hammer
- 24:05Speaker 1: at the window, which is a take off of the
- 24:07Speaker 1: commercial it is. Indeed, that's pretty much that revolutionized, right, Yeah? Yeah,
- 24:13Speaker 1: that created that. That made Macintosh, didn't it that ad? Yeah?
- 24:15Speaker 4: Fun point. Do you know who directed that episode? Who
- 24:17Speaker 4: directed who directed that commercial? Who directed that commercial? I
- 24:20Speaker 4: should probably know? It was probably in the Seed Jobs movie?
- 24:22Speaker 1: He was it? It was Ridley Scott. Was it really low? Yeah?
- 24:25Speaker 1: That wouldn't have cost a pretty penny. Absolutely, and it
- 24:28Speaker 1: would have cost it. They would have paid for that,
- 24:30Speaker 1: not just for his tumbles. To have his name attached
- 24:31Speaker 1: to it makes them seem legitimate.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Oh yeah, absolutely, yeah, because he's this is not long
- 24:35Speaker 4: after after the one two punch of Alien and Blade Runner.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, so he's eighty four. I reckon it was, Yes,
- 24:42Speaker 1: and the AD's called nineteen eighty four as well. Of course, yes,
- 24:44Speaker 1: that that makes sense. So my next question for you
- 24:46Speaker 1: is what magazine was Marjor reading in bed? She was
- 24:50Speaker 1: reading Barely Regal. Now my question to he was who
- 24:54Speaker 1: was on the cover of that issue? Well, it was
- 24:56Speaker 1: a prince of some kind? Was it? The one that's
- 24:58Speaker 1: been done for child touching? That could be any prince
- 25:03Speaker 1: except except Prince So prince, it's Prince Charles's brother. What's
- 25:06Speaker 1: his name? Oh? I don't think it's an actual prince.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Oh isn't it? Okay? Oh it wasn't Andrew.
- 25:10Speaker 4: I thought it was print Okay, yeah, okay, no, no, no,
- 25:12Speaker 4: it was Prince Olaf of Norway.
- 25:14Speaker 1: Oh there we go. Okay. Then my final question for
- 25:17Speaker 1: you is I'm going to so how many how many
- 25:21Speaker 1: songs did Lisa download twelve hundred, No twelve, twelve hundred
- 25:27Speaker 1: and twelve, I believe. Oh okay, twelve hundred and twelve.
- 25:29Speaker 1: Let me have a look somewhere in my notes. Yeah,
- 25:32Speaker 1: because the cost of twelve dollars and nine nine cents each. Oh,
- 25:35Speaker 1: she's what it was? Tweve hundred and twelve songs? Did
- 25:37Speaker 1: they say that or did you? Did you do the
- 25:38Speaker 1: man at LISTA? No? No, she goes two hundred dollars
- 25:41Speaker 1: but only downloaded twelve hundred and twelve songs. Okay, I
- 25:45Speaker 1: was close. But as they say, no cigar, I will
- 25:48Speaker 1: as much as I I would say despise Apple, but
- 25:52Speaker 1: I just got of. I mock and laugh at people
- 25:54Speaker 1: who use Apple phones and have to have the Apple
- 25:56Speaker 1: this Apple. That the iPod was a fucking incredible invention.
- 26:00Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, but that was that was that changed the world,
- 26:04Speaker 1: the iPod.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Yeah, I see, I have only ever owned like one
- 26:08Speaker 4: Apple item. And it's not because I'm taking a stand
- 26:10Speaker 4: or anything like that.
- 26:11Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 26:11Speaker 4: Maybe it's I'm a weird contrarian, but I mean, look,
- 26:13Speaker 4: when it comes to phone, I'm a Samsung guy. Honestly,
- 26:16Speaker 4: A lot of my tech is like Samsung and Galaxy.
- 26:18Speaker 1: I like to use my phone as a be able
- 26:20Speaker 1: to do things with it. Apples like you will use
- 26:22Speaker 1: Apple devices and that's it.
- 26:24Speaker 4: Maybe that's my problem with the Apple does feel very
- 26:26Speaker 4: much like a closed system of close lube. And when
- 26:28Speaker 4: you've got one thing, you have to have everything if
- 26:30Speaker 4: you want anything to be connected.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Even the fake ship the mock shit costs money.
- 26:33Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that was that's my next question, okay, which
- 26:36Speaker 4: we'll get to an ext But the only thing I've
- 26:38Speaker 4: ever owned was like an Apple, iPod, nano.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Or small ones. Yeah, I never like the names are
- 26:43Speaker 1: too small for me. I like the bigger ones, but
- 26:45Speaker 1: people love them, I understand. Yeah yeah, and they don't
- 26:48Speaker 1: make that anymore. But it's like, oh man, I understand
- 26:53Speaker 1: why because I wouldn't use one anymore either. But it's
- 26:55Speaker 1: just sad because I host thought. I have so many
- 26:57Speaker 1: memories of walking down the street just listening to my
- 27:00Speaker 1: having the first time was able to have a collection
- 27:01Speaker 1: of songs in your hand. Kids now would just never
- 27:04Speaker 1: understand it, but just being able to put it, plug
- 27:06Speaker 1: it in. Of course you have to have iTunes you
- 27:08Speaker 1: to have all the ship, but you would have your
- 27:10Speaker 1: own download of songs you transferm over and you make
- 27:11Speaker 1: your own little play lists, and it's like that was unbelievable. Well,
- 27:15Speaker 1: is't think? I mean before that, of course you would
- 27:17Speaker 1: make the odd mixtape or anything like that. But that's limited.
- 27:20Speaker 4: It's limited, limited and not in the good way, but
- 27:23Speaker 4: you know, fairly small scale, whereas this is like boom,
- 27:26Speaker 4: mind blown. Yeah, I really like that little live button
- 27:29Speaker 4: and the other thing about They touch on this, but
- 27:32Speaker 4: actually I really sort of elaborate on this in the episode.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Is how cool all that shit looked? Yeah? Apple stuff
- 27:38Speaker 1: looks great. Yeah, the packaging and everything, yeah yeah.
- 27:42Speaker 4: The tech is like half of it. The marketing and
- 27:44Speaker 4: the design is there's bad mats, but it's like half
- 27:49Speaker 4: and a half of it.
- 27:50Speaker 1: Do you know who liked Apple Jet? The band Oh
- 27:56Speaker 1: Better preface Better followed up with the band, so they
- 27:59Speaker 1: had are you going to be My Girl? On their
- 28:01Speaker 1: commercial and that was iconic commercial. Oh yeah yeah, very
- 28:05Speaker 1: very smart savvy marketing Apple oh yeah, good at marketing,
- 28:09Speaker 1: good at design, and also bim not bad at tech either.
- 28:12Speaker 1: So yeah, there's there's a reason Apple is Apple. Yes.
- 28:14Speaker 1: One last trivia question, what is the price of a pair.
- 28:18Speaker 4: Of my phony were they forty dollars, We're indeed forty bucks.
- 28:30Speaker 1: It is stone kind of shout out time for February

- 29:43Speaker 1: a description of this podcast. All right, let's get into
- 29:45Speaker 1: a review of My Pods and boom Sticks. The original
- 29:48Speaker 1: air day of the episode was November thirtieth, two thousand
- 29:51Speaker 1: and eight. Production code kab F twenty, written by Mark Willmore,
- 29:55Speaker 1: directed by Stephen Dean Moore. The chop board Gabe, prosperity
- 29:58Speaker 1: is just around the corner, I hope to actually oh well,
- 30:03Speaker 1: And the couch gag is that so the cash is
- 30:05Speaker 1: another chort gag is where they walk in and they
- 30:08Speaker 1: find Bart riding I will not bring the chalk board home,
- 30:10Speaker 1: and he's actually writing it on the chot board. Sorry,
- 30:12Speaker 1: this air in what two thousand and eight, two thousand
- 30:14Speaker 1: and eight, November thirtieth, Yeah, won did the global financial
- 30:17Speaker 1: crisis actually like.
- 30:18Speaker 4: Kick in ten? I thought it started in two thousand
- 30:21Speaker 4: and eight, twenty ten. I thought it was it's never
- 30:25Speaker 4: ended last I'm pretty sure. I'm pretty sure it was
- 30:28Speaker 4: two thousand and eight.
- 30:29Speaker 1: That. Oh yeah. Global Financial crisis, also known as a
- 30:32Speaker 1: two thousand and eight financial crisis, occurred between the mid
- 30:34Speaker 1: two thousand and seven and early two thousand and nine.
- 30:36Speaker 1: It was the most severe economic crisis since the Great Depression. Okay,
- 30:39Speaker 1: so yeah, but it was. It was great for dvid fans.
- 30:42Speaker 1: I ain't going to buy me some US DVDs at
- 30:45Speaker 1: less price. Good time to be alive. It was, yeah,
- 30:48Speaker 1: all right, that was it. That's it.
- 30:51Speaker 4: No, I just thought that was a nice bit of
- 30:53Speaker 4: I don't know, ironic commentary on the part of the
- 30:55Speaker 4: Simpsons guide Prosperity is just around the corner in the
- 30:57Speaker 4: middle of the GFC.
- 30:58Speaker 1: So in the episode kicks off with the family at
- 31:01Speaker 1: the mall, it's Boxing Day and how long do you
- 31:05Speaker 1: wait before you take your Christmas shit down? We took
- 31:07Speaker 1: out Christmas Street down end of January. Yeah, my Christmas
- 31:11Speaker 1: lights were up for quite some time. I feel like
- 31:13Speaker 1: we're the ear and now where you go, I need
- 31:15Speaker 1: to try and keep the joy alive. That's a very
- 31:19Speaker 1: sweet attitude on your partner. Mine was just laziness. Yeah,
- 31:22Speaker 1: I hide the laziness behind the fact that I just
- 31:24Speaker 1: wanted to keep the joy going.
- 31:25Speaker 4: Because I would, you know, I would go see lou
- 31:28Speaker 4: and I'll be driving home to my place of an
- 31:29Speaker 4: evening and it was almost like a time lapse thing
- 31:32Speaker 4: of like, oh, okay, they've taken their lights out. Oh
- 31:35Speaker 4: fewer and fewer and fewer Imperial lights as I'm driving
- 31:38Speaker 4: home until like I'm the last guy on the block.
- 31:40Speaker 4: I've got multicolored lights around.
- 31:42Speaker 1: His hand, and you're that neighbor, like, oh, that fucking
- 31:44Speaker 1: Bogan naghbor. But apparently it's the Bogan neighbors always take
- 31:46Speaker 1: their shit down last. And I'm like, ah, we're the
- 31:48Speaker 1: anyone the Christmas shit up, we better take it down.
- 31:50Speaker 4: And I'd like to present myself as a man of
- 31:52Speaker 4: sophistication and laziness wh doesn't always launch.
- 31:55Speaker 1: I was gonna give a shout out to my mum,
- 31:56Speaker 1: Marcia Dando, right, She's just sent me. God love her.
- 31:59Speaker 1: A message on Facebook, and it is a I created
- 32:02Speaker 1: a real Facebook page of Nancy cart Right running through
- 32:05Speaker 1: Simpson's voices, write her characters, and she has shed it
- 32:07Speaker 1: to me, saying you'd love this, Mom, I made this,
- 32:12Speaker 1: I do love this. Proud of my work. I love
- 32:16Speaker 1: and if it even says follow fourthing a discount on it,
- 32:19Speaker 1: She's just like, wow, what a what a lady? No, no, no,
- 32:25Speaker 1: I'm what I'm saying is the video the real She's
- 32:28Speaker 1: read that, Mom, I am for a god lover to
- 32:38Speaker 1: love very that's very sweet. Yes, it's very much my mom.
- 32:40Speaker 1: If you knew my mom, it's very much my mom.
- 32:42Speaker 1: She's the one that used to write low at the
- 32:43Speaker 1: end of the conference every sentence, thinking it's meant lots
- 32:45Speaker 1: of love. She say, I'll be over soon, Lowell, Okay,
- 32:50Speaker 1: do you want your chicken from the shop? Loll chicken
- 32:55Speaker 1: sold on normal salt loll.
- 32:58Speaker 4: The fact that she's closing out with all the lolls
- 33:00Speaker 4: on all of these thinking it's lots of love.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, But they're at the mall. It's box
- 33:06Speaker 1: bush down, Carols are singing songs. Raindy is getting put
- 33:08Speaker 1: in the wood ship. I've got Martin Luther King day
- 33:10Speaker 1: coming up. So now doctor King's now in the chair. Yeah,
- 33:13Speaker 1: when he finally gets a lunch break, he's fred last. Yeah,
- 33:17Speaker 1: it's not insensible, it's a it's a fine gay. I'm
- 33:19Speaker 1: glad it wasn't something that went to town where it
- 33:22Speaker 1: was just short and sharp got it done. Yeah. So
- 33:25Speaker 1: they have the gig now apparently the family where they
- 33:27Speaker 1: all get to return one present with no hurt feelings.
- 33:29Speaker 1: They all return, but it's cat calendar that he bought for.
- 33:31Speaker 1: Everybody felt sorry for him. Then I thought about it
- 33:34Speaker 1: and I went, you know what, the calendars are the
- 33:35Speaker 1: weirdest fucking present. I always want a Simpson's calendar. But
- 33:39Speaker 1: then I look at it and go, why do I
- 33:41Speaker 1: need a themed calendar? We have in this house. We
- 33:44Speaker 1: holy got a bluey one, al, you got a Jurassic
- 33:46Speaker 1: part And I'm thinking, why do we buy each other calendars?
- 33:49Speaker 1: They got twenty bucks yore boxing day, buying boxing day
- 33:54Speaker 1: that worth like five because they're.
- 33:56Speaker 4: Well, it's like buying a diary for the year. I mean,
- 33:58Speaker 4: if your old school like me and you actually want
- 34:00Speaker 4: a physical diary, yeah, you're write in Yeah, yeah.
- 34:03Speaker 1: It's like you're not going to buy that before Christmas, you're.
- 34:06Speaker 4: Not even gonna buy you you're not even gonna buy
- 34:08Speaker 4: it in the new year. You you're gonna wait until
- 34:10Speaker 4: like a week into the new.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Usually the boxing every candies you wait till because usually
- 34:13Speaker 1: stay arountil about January fourth or fifth. Or what about
- 34:15Speaker 1: the supermarkets, that's the shopping malls, you might as well
- 34:17Speaker 1: wait till then. I bought the Blue and the Dressy
- 34:19Speaker 1: part one flight two dollars each and no originally twenty bucks.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And you think if you're still making a profit on too,
- 34:24Speaker 1: or do you think it's just that it's trying to
- 34:25Speaker 1: get anything back for them? Probably that probably just taking
- 34:27Speaker 1: the loss because I think so you're not gonna be
- 34:29Speaker 1: able to sell them anymore, so you just take what
- 34:30Speaker 1: you can get. A guess other just gonna get pumped.
- 34:32Speaker 1: But yeah, so, as I was saying, I felt so
- 34:34Speaker 1: for it, and I thought, yeah, it is a ship gift,
- 34:35Speaker 1: but the last minute gift. And then Lisa notices the
- 34:38Speaker 1: Apple store is now in the in the shop in
- 34:40Speaker 1: the shopping mall that's been filled more lovely gleaming cube
- 34:43Speaker 1: of the place. It's just them taking the mickey out
- 34:45Speaker 1: of all the Apple products. I did love the light
- 34:47Speaker 1: confirms that it's off. Lest think I mean, if.
- 34:51Speaker 4: You if you were a PC user or a Samsung
- 34:54Speaker 4: user or whatever I mean trying to I won't say
- 34:57Speaker 4: using Apple stuff is difficult to decide, but it's something like, oh,
- 35:01Speaker 4: so I've got to know go left to go right
- 35:04Speaker 4: on this one of this button means that.
- 35:07Speaker 1: As opposed to well, they don't have control and all
- 35:09Speaker 1: those things different buttons. Because if I had a previous employment,
- 35:12Speaker 1: they bought everyone it's all Apple everything. They'll convinced that
- 35:15Speaker 1: Apple was the way, and I'm going this sucks. Does
- 35:26Speaker 1: anyone have any comment? Yeah? Fun Yet Krusty hates his
- 35:32Speaker 1: Mypod though why did he hate it? I can't remember
- 35:36Speaker 1: why he hated it. It was just something the new music.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Don't even get Me Started, scream was too small to
- 35:40Speaker 1: watch his shows that think. He said, Yeah, its today,
- 35:42Speaker 1: don't get me started, that one on too long, don't
- 35:44Speaker 1: get me started. No one gotta be started anyway, So
- 35:47Speaker 1: he's going to get an old navy to see if
- 35:49Speaker 1: anyone gets them started. Gives his Mypod to Lisa. I
- 35:52Speaker 1: think you had some You.
- 35:53Speaker 4: Had some commentators taking issue of the fact that it's like, Okay,
- 35:56Speaker 4: why is this called Mapple? Why is he called Steve
- 35:58Speaker 4: Mobbs when you're actually name checking Oh, Navy, Microsoft. Yeah,
- 36:01Speaker 4: it speaks to what you said before, like that they
- 36:04Speaker 4: scared of him. Yeah, Like it's bizarre anyway. So she
- 36:08Speaker 4: does the dancing silhouettes, which thought it was really cool animation.
- 36:11Speaker 4: When she gets it, she doesn't dance, and then he goes,
- 36:12Speaker 4: we're all whatever Apple fans, and she does the sad
- 36:15Speaker 4: one because a silhouet of someone looking sad with with
- 36:17Speaker 4: a myppod. Then it's time for the live announcement from
- 36:19Speaker 4: Steve Mobs and he's like a guy who knows actually
- 36:23Speaker 4: what we want and he says is at the headquarters
- 36:25Speaker 4: under the sea, and then Bart takes over the speech
- 36:27Speaker 4: and I've just got here. This just feels like it's
- 36:29Speaker 4: the writers taking a shot at Steve Jobs but hiding
- 36:33Speaker 4: behind Bart.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Oh. Just everything they wanted to get out about the
- 36:38Speaker 1: negative side of Apple and the people that follow it
- 36:40Speaker 1: all got spoken he through Bart, and I just went, ah,
- 36:43Speaker 1: Bart wouldn't care enough to say all that shit. It
- 36:45Speaker 1: just felt weird having how did Bart do it?
- 36:48Speaker 4: It's weird that Lisa is the one who gets sort
- 36:51Speaker 4: of sucked in consumers of I mean, yeah, it's if
- 36:54Speaker 4: you're being jeerous, you would say, wow, it's an interesting sword.
- 36:56Speaker 4: No one's immune to Apple, but having bart Bley gonna
- 36:59Speaker 4: like fight the like No he he buys anything that's
- 37:03Speaker 4: got crusty on it.
- 37:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that's it. Yeah exactly. I think this episode needed
- 37:08Speaker 1: to have Lisa feeling left out. I know we've done
- 37:11Speaker 1: a story a million times, but Lisa feeling that because
- 37:13Speaker 1: everyone else has got on my pod, she really wants one,
- 37:15Speaker 1: and then she gets sucked him because she wants to
- 37:17Speaker 1: be cool with everybody else. Then realize it's not cool
- 37:19Speaker 1: to have one. Blah blah blah. You play a different story,
- 37:21Speaker 1: better story. Sure, we fixed it again. It is I.
- 37:26Speaker 3: You're insanely great leader, Steve mob I'm speaking to you
- 37:30Speaker 3: from Mapple headquarters, deep below the sea with an announcement
- 37:33Speaker 3: that will completely change the way you look at everything.
- 37:37Speaker 2: And that announcement is you're all losers. I think you're
- 37:43Speaker 2: cool because you buy a five hundred dollars phone with
- 37:45Speaker 2: a picture of a fruit on it. Who gets what
- 37:47Speaker 2: they cost eight bucks to make an ip on everyone?
- 37:51Speaker 2: I have made a fortune or few chumps, and I've
- 37:54Speaker 2: invested it all in Microsoft. Now, my boyfriend Bill Gates
- 37:58Speaker 2: and I kiss each other on a pile of your mind.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Treat your heart is flackery.
- 38:06Speaker 1: Than you're chi neck. You've heard him speaking all of
- 38:16Speaker 1: a sudden, his voices out changed to a ten year
- 38:18Speaker 1: old boy, and no one's going, what's going on here?
- 38:20Speaker 1: It's just, ah, why is he saying all these things?
- 38:22Speaker 1: And it's just just to create the gag of a
- 38:25Speaker 1: guy throwing the hammer, which was a nice, a fun
- 38:27Speaker 1: little tribute, but it just didn't make any sense to Yeah,
- 38:30Speaker 1: it feels like Nancy Carra was weirdly directed in this regard.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, it was.
- 38:36Speaker 4: It felt more like Bard saying fight the power, you know,
- 38:38Speaker 4: Dan with Apple, as opposed to him just being.
- 38:40Speaker 1: A little little dick. Yeah, and like Yeah saying making
- 38:44Speaker 1: Steve Mobs say, you know, silly shit. He's not rebellious
- 38:47Speaker 1: against consumerism. No, he's rebellious because he's just he's rebellious
- 38:50Speaker 1: because he's bored. Yeah, and you know, and he wants
- 38:53Speaker 1: to stir some shit up. Yeah. So him saying all
- 38:55Speaker 1: this stuff doesn't make any sense at all, does it? Now? Really?
- 38:57Speaker 1: But the who dare questioned? The boss who we fired
- 38:59Speaker 1: ten years and we brought back and they tried to
- 39:01Speaker 1: flay Bart with their earbuds. He gets away and then
- 39:04Speaker 1: again there he goes, well, why they're trying to give
- 39:06Speaker 1: it shining a harsh light on society? I know how
- 39:08Speaker 1: now I know how Dane Cook feels. And I was like, whoa, yeah,
- 39:11Speaker 1: dated a, Wow, there's the very two thousands episode. Yeah.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Really indeed, then he smells some lamb and then I
- 39:20Speaker 1: know it's continuity. It doesn't matter about cantuit anymore. But
- 39:23Speaker 1: he says, all these years of petting lambs that should
- 39:24Speaker 1: have been putting them in my mouth at Thist is
- 39:26Speaker 1: a vegetarian. They're all eating lamb. This is lamb, not
- 39:29Speaker 1: e lamb. So yeah, one of my favorite Simpsons lines
- 39:31Speaker 1: of all time. Yeah, it's like he knows he eats
- 39:34Speaker 1: lamb all the time. What the hell? Anyway?
- 39:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, if you're going to be talking about,
- 39:40Speaker 4: say lamb prepared by someone from Iran or someone from
- 39:43Speaker 4: that part of the world.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Wow.
- 39:45Speaker 4: I thought lamb was kind of like, you know, barbaric
- 39:47Speaker 4: but tasty, and all these spices about it lifted to
- 39:50Speaker 4: a whole new level. I can barely taste the Barber
- 39:53Speaker 4: is there we are. Guy nails it with a killer
- 39:56Speaker 4: one line. You barely tastes the slaughter, you can barely
- 39:59Speaker 4: taste the pain. Yeah, there we go. Oh god, we're
- 40:04Speaker 4: fixing this episode in real time.
- 40:06Speaker 1: You barely taste the fear. So then he introduced, but
- 40:09Speaker 1: she introduces himself that Bush just wanted to someone's backyard.
- 40:13Speaker 1: She is like, hey again.
- 40:18Speaker 4: You know, if you're going to be talking about followers
- 40:24Speaker 4: of Islam or people from the Middle East or whatever,
- 40:27Speaker 4: I don't want to sound condescen any want to say
- 40:28Speaker 4: that the people I know who are Middle East are
- 40:32Speaker 4: just fucking hearts of gold, most generous people, most welcoming
- 40:35Speaker 4: people that I've ever met. They just like, come on in,
- 40:38Speaker 4: we have it, we're eating.
- 40:39Speaker 1: Will they make the joking actual people supposed to be
- 40:41Speaker 1: very welcoming.
- 40:42Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe elaborate that a little in the start, as
- 40:45Speaker 4: opposed to just Bart rock in and say, hey, I'm
- 40:47Speaker 4: going to enjoy your lambs, Like of course, I just
- 40:50Speaker 4: have have the family. So yeah, there's room at the table,
- 40:54Speaker 4: come on in.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Yeah. Plus it establishes pretty early on well I think
- 40:58Speaker 1: they've already done it anyway, but established like shit, they's
- 41:00Speaker 1: are good people. Theyse are really nice. Why is Homer
- 41:02Speaker 1: being a dick to them? Yeah, but he wasn't dick yet. No, no, yeah,
- 41:06Speaker 1: yeah yeah. So then he makes his mom says, I
- 41:09Speaker 1: don't know you had the old you didn't your sister
- 41:11Speaker 1: blah blah blah, the sistuff whatever it is, invites about
- 41:14Speaker 1: to stay for dinner, and then he teaches Bashiah the
- 41:16Speaker 1: school rules.
- 41:18Speaker 2: Okay, you're new to our schools. So here's the deal.
- 41:21Speaker 2: We call skinner skin rash, mister Wiener is mister Weiner,
- 41:25Speaker 2: and groundskeeper Willie grounds creeper stupid.
- 41:28Speaker 1: Oh that's not clever. We have so many aspects you
- 41:31Speaker 1: can mark.
- 41:32Speaker 3: I'm poor, I'm dirty, I can't read all right, I
- 41:35Speaker 3: think movies are real.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Okay. Next, here's the food at the cafeteria that will
- 41:41Speaker 2: make you sick. Cole slaw, tuna, all chowders and gumbos.
- 41:44Speaker 2: The only thing that's safe is the pork chops.
- 41:47Speaker 1: My religion says I can never.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Eat pork a different religion. Do not tell anyone that,
- 41:53Speaker 2: because if the bully's around, you find out that you're different.
- 41:55Speaker 3: Who's different?
- 41:59Speaker 1: What's your name? Sweat stain?
- 42:01Speaker 2: A bush here? Bash here I love a kid that
- 42:05Speaker 2: comes with directions.
- 42:07Speaker 1: Then this is where the bullies rock up. And yeah,
- 42:08Speaker 1: as we said, I didn't mind how they use them here.
- 42:10Speaker 1: They end up beating the shut of each other because
- 42:12Speaker 1: of idiots.
- 42:12Speaker 4: That's right, because well, what one's Christian, one's Jewish, and
- 42:16Speaker 4: one he's in a.
- 42:16Speaker 1: Cult, Moe's cult, Keny's mum's banging mo apparently. Yeah, yes,
- 42:22Speaker 1: so I didn't think though, that was a nice ad
- 42:24Speaker 1: break because before they start doing that, they have the
- 42:27Speaker 1: kids like sort of confronting him. They're going to bash
- 42:29Speaker 1: him up and his ad break, And I was like,
- 42:31Speaker 1: that would keep me around to find out what's going
- 42:33Speaker 1: to happen next you get the well, is this going
- 42:36Speaker 1: to turn into a very special episode? Yeah, but then
- 42:39Speaker 1: obviously bubble things happen. They get away, Sherry and Terry
- 42:42Speaker 1: are now about to hate on Lisa, and then they
- 42:44Speaker 1: say that you go to mypod and she shows the
- 42:46Speaker 1: Moon Dreams and then and then I found I'm like, guys,
- 42:48Speaker 1: it's Moon Dreams. What are we doing? We should love
- 42:51Speaker 1: this song? Bertha calls a pretty cool album by my
- 42:54Speaker 1: man Miles Davis. Yeah, yeah, then my tunes exclusively she
- 42:57Speaker 1: is scratchy. So now they're friends with her because she's
- 42:59Speaker 1: got the mylah blah blah blah. But I thought, why
- 43:01Speaker 1: has no one else got in my pod? Why is
- 43:03Speaker 1: Lisa the anyone? It seems like no one else in Springfield,
- 43:07Speaker 1: kid wise, one of any Mapple shit, just Lisa. It
- 43:09Speaker 1: was just, oh, that's a good point. It was so bizarre. Yeah,
- 43:13Speaker 1: if you're going to.
- 43:13Speaker 4: Talk about apples everywhere, blah blah blah blah blah, this
- 43:17Speaker 4: is a bit of a stretch. But you know, have
- 43:20Speaker 4: Lisa at the Mapple shop. I'm sad I can't even
- 43:22Speaker 4: afford my phonies. Like there's one rebel Apple store Mapple
- 43:27Speaker 4: store employee.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Who's like, look, this is new and it's a sample.
- 43:31Speaker 4: We can't really give it out, but here you go
- 43:33Speaker 4: have this, you know, and maybe he can spread the word,
- 43:36Speaker 4: tell them how good.
- 43:36Speaker 1: It's like, wow, she's got the latest.
- 43:38Speaker 4: One or something like that. Yeah, this is not as
- 43:41Speaker 4: good as the other fix its I've come up with
- 43:42Speaker 4: this episode.
- 43:43Speaker 1: But I don't know, it's just they needed it felt
- 43:46Speaker 1: like Lisa was the only one who gave a shit
- 43:47Speaker 1: about Mapple. It was so bizarre because she seems to
- 43:50Speaker 1: be the last characters should be obsessed with mapple. But yeah,
- 43:53Speaker 1: so they've watched the exclusive. She is scratchy. I like
- 43:56Speaker 1: itch scratchy. I thought this one was not bad. They're
- 43:58Speaker 1: going a bit longer, but I don't mind it that.
- 44:00Speaker 1: I'd rather this fellow than have just a random, useless
- 44:02Speaker 1: joke filling it up. Oh yeah, yeah, it's relevant to
- 44:05Speaker 1: the episode. Homers then changed the light bulbs in the house,
- 44:08Speaker 1: throwing the old ones to the backyard, and then basher
- 44:10Speaker 1: rocks up. He thinks he's millhouse. He gives his new catchphase,
- 44:13Speaker 1: which is John sat with today's Salama legam, which means
- 44:17Speaker 1: peace be with you, be with you. Yes, feeling all
- 44:19Speaker 1: those lines, yeah, just friendly.
- 44:21Speaker 4: Speaks to the commonality of all religions. I mean, growing
- 44:24Speaker 4: up Catholic, we have the thing at church where you
- 44:26Speaker 4: know we now offer each other sign a piece. He
- 44:28Speaker 4: turned the person next and shake your hand and say
- 44:29Speaker 4: peace be with you. All the ship's coded throughout all
- 44:32Speaker 4: these religions.
- 44:32Speaker 1: Why why are we getting bunched up at that being
- 44:35Speaker 1: different when they're all the same. We are all the same.
- 44:38Speaker 1: But he returns, but Slingshot calls him, sir, I did
- 44:41Speaker 1: like the thirty eight waist. Yeah, Nicola thought this was hilarious,
- 44:45Speaker 1: believe yeah. But then we get to most This is

- 45:26Speaker 1: So you can't be trusted. Homers says, well, I need
- 45:28Speaker 1: a fictional TV expousing your point of view. We get
- 45:30Speaker 1: twenty four just to get Mina on the screen's mean
- 45:32Speaker 1: of him. That scene probably is in the background, maybe maybe,
- 45:35Speaker 1: but it's just got a Muslim on there, just being
- 45:38Speaker 1: a classic TV terror classic, Yeah, done with America, And
- 45:42Speaker 1: they tell him to discriminate against his family, invite him
- 45:45Speaker 1: over dinner and give Hi the jap Bobo treatment, gets
- 45:47Speaker 1: some secrets out of him. So it's time for dinner,
- 45:50Speaker 1: and Homer's just being really over the top here. But
- 45:53Speaker 1: as you said, when I watched this, I thought this
- 45:55Speaker 1: was a bit annoying, but you've sort of you've explained
- 45:57Speaker 1: it to me where it wasn't necessarily him being this
- 46:00Speaker 1: way until he was convinced by TV and his idiot friends.
- 46:05Speaker 1: He's idiotic friends. Yeah, they made it's a little cake
- 46:09Speaker 1: char to cut? What Distalina? Not? Now? I got soap
- 46:15Speaker 1: in my eyes? No, thank you? What's the matter.
- 46:19Speaker 3: Don't like the taste of freedom?
- 46:22Speaker 1: Dad?
- 46:22Speaker 2: These people are my friends. Don't fear them just because
- 46:24Speaker 2: they have a different religion, a different culture, and their
- 46:27Speaker 2: last name is bin Laden.
- 46:28Speaker 3: Young man, you do not respect us by disrespecting your father.
- 46:31Speaker 1: I like the way you Italians think, shit the old man.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Then they all leave. Mar Is annoyed because he's being
- 46:38Speaker 1: very intolerant. You're teaching your kids a bad example. And
- 46:40Speaker 1: as he says, it's just so funny. He's going judge
- 46:42Speaker 1: Bilk passon never religion. That feels like a classic Simpsons line.
- 46:45Speaker 1: God does. Yeah, so she says, you gotta go apologize,
- 46:49Speaker 1: but with a more powerful country for a few more years.
- 46:52Speaker 1: And then he's making about to eat the cake. He
- 46:54Speaker 1: says he can't get this poison. So Homer arrives to apologize.
- 46:56Speaker 1: I'm sorry I suspected you to be solace murderers of
- 46:58Speaker 1: innocent children. He looks the window and he sees but
- 47:01Speaker 1: she is father with dynamite, and he just assumes for
- 47:04Speaker 1: the worst. I think he's gonna blow something up. And
- 47:07Speaker 1: why you would have dynamite in the garages. It's all
- 47:11Speaker 1: a bit It's almost a fair assumption to make. If
- 47:13Speaker 1: someone's got to ship down a DNT.
- 47:15Speaker 4: In their garage, it's your job keep it at work.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it all seems a bit silly. Yeah. Then
- 47:24Speaker 1: Marge's reading very regal in bed, and Homer rocks up
- 47:27Speaker 1: and he says, everything is what I think people like.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Everyone is what I think they are. It's barely regal.
- 47:32Speaker 1: Is a pretty funny game, it is. Yeah. Yeah. Then
- 47:34Speaker 1: Miss Mahoma has the Aladdin dream and Dan actually is
- 47:37Speaker 1: the voice of Gennie in Everything but the Laddin, so
- 47:39Speaker 1: he's the return to far I think this is the
- 47:41Speaker 1: Ladin TV series. So Dan's just doing his genie.
- 47:44Speaker 4: Yeah, and I know he wanted to sort of emulate
- 47:48Speaker 4: Ron Wings without doing necessarily an impersonation, But yeah, I
- 47:51Speaker 4: was pretty taken with that. I thought it was It
- 47:53Speaker 4: felt like a very affectionate piss take of Robin Williams.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Yeah, because also meant to be carrying the leg Well true,
- 48:00Speaker 1: but it also feels very much like Robin will do
- 48:04Speaker 1: that kind of thing. Well, you have to be you
- 48:06Speaker 1: have to be Robin, you have to be Yeah. So yeah, yeah,
- 48:09Speaker 1: well yeah he does. He does a good genie because
- 48:11Speaker 1: when we were kids, we're watching a Laddin TV series
- 48:13Speaker 1: just thinking it's just Robin Williams, But no, it was
- 48:15Speaker 1: Dan doing this thing. You're robbed. You must like me,
- 48:19Speaker 1: you really really like me. God mourning, run my dub.
- 48:23Speaker 3: Come crazy for prices?
- 48:26Speaker 1: Are Who's se Jenny? You do Flanders? Now? I will
- 48:34Speaker 1: destroy your decadent Western society. But then leads it gets
- 48:38Speaker 1: the delivery from Mapple Beautiful Packaging and whatnot, but it's
- 48:40Speaker 1: a bill for twelve hundred dollars because she's down in
- 48:41Speaker 1: a twelve hundred and twelve songs and Homer is by
- 48:44Speaker 1: the window and he ever hears the conversation of Beer's
- 48:48Speaker 1: parents and as we said earlier, just classic comedy. I
- 48:51Speaker 1: really love the I love blowing buildings legally, but there's
- 48:54Speaker 1: killing myself. But all for the prophet. That is so
- 48:57Speaker 1: well read. For the prophet is great for the property
- 49:01Speaker 1: because all the other ones, like off the explosion, I'll
- 49:03Speaker 1: be in a better place. I caught her office. I'm like,
- 49:05Speaker 1: that's all ridiculous. But they killing myself all for the prophet.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I'm like, that's good. That is very good. Then he
- 49:10Speaker 1: knocks on the door to apologize because the father's left,
- 49:13Speaker 1: and he says, I just want to know come saying hello,
- 49:15Speaker 1: blah blah Blah's gon an rumih to the house. Praise
- 49:17Speaker 1: be Oliver as he says, what do you think of
- 49:20Speaker 1: the so now that he's gone death to America? Right,
- 49:24Speaker 1: it's a bit stupid, it's a bit on the note. Yeah.
- 49:27Speaker 1: But then he finds the leftop I'm in and he
- 49:29Speaker 1: sees the folder for the Springfield more that's going to
- 49:32Speaker 1: be blown up. Blah blah blah. And then he I
- 49:36Speaker 1: hated this next bit where she goes because he said,
- 49:38Speaker 1: I'm going to go grind up some almonds or whatever.
- 49:40Speaker 1: She doesn't sound like you're grinding up any almonds. And
- 49:42Speaker 1: he just does it. It's just dan Impropitt, but it
- 49:44Speaker 1: just went forever I've heard my thumb oh oh, and
- 49:47Speaker 1: then actually does it does the ambulance sound, and it
- 49:50Speaker 1: actually does do this something when he goes out the window.
- 49:51Speaker 1: When he goes out the window, yeah, home, and then
- 49:53Speaker 1: tells everyone at the moor to get out. And I'm
- 49:56Speaker 1: first watching this going no one's getting out. Then I thought,
- 49:58Speaker 1: you know, what if I'm in basically Plaza or Westfield
- 50:01Speaker 1: and some guy runs past, goes get out of here. Yeah,
- 50:04Speaker 1: I'm getting Eddy. Why a chance safe than sorry? Sure?
- 50:11Speaker 1: And across the road to Market Square. Yeah, everyone, nothing's
- 50:13Speaker 1: happening there. No, no, nothing bad is happening there at all.
- 50:16Speaker 1: So then he says to Patty and someone like you
- 50:19Speaker 1: stay because a part of the dvs in the mall
- 50:21Speaker 1: now whatever. So he runs across, blows up the thinks
- 50:25Speaker 1: I'm gonna blow up the mall. He grabs the dynamite,
- 50:28Speaker 1: ends up They're going to blop the old mall. That's
- 50:30Speaker 1: what Bart's doing because he thinks sees Bat with the
- 50:32Speaker 1: plunger whatever it is, and he ends up trying it
- 50:34Speaker 1: and blows up the bridge, which is the bridge to
- 50:36Speaker 1: the Duff Brewery, and he realizes, oh shit, because all
- 50:39Speaker 1: the cars, the truck start crashing, goes into the water.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Lee's Hans moment, and the driver's seat goes and gets
- 50:43Speaker 1: some beer away. It's Han's moment. He's expendable, that's true.
- 50:47Speaker 1: And then he invites them over for dinner to apologize
- 50:49Speaker 1: the pardon for my part of mind tolerance on the banner.
- 50:52Speaker 1: It's come for good use over the years, as he says,
- 50:54Speaker 1: And Lisa is gone something Mapple should be gone for
- 50:57Speaker 1: a month, and I was like, this is even have
- 51:00Speaker 1: a good ending for this story, Like it's just it's
- 51:03Speaker 1: so lazy. Okay, how is she getting there? I don't know.
- 51:07Speaker 1: She borrowed a James Cameron's Lisa. She said something to
- 51:10Speaker 1: do A Mapple should be back in a month, and
- 51:12Speaker 1: I'm like, that's a long time for an eight year
- 51:15Speaker 1: old to be gone. No one realized she was gone.
- 51:20Speaker 1: It's just stupid. Do you think they needed to Maybe
- 51:24Speaker 1: it is, I mean the story was stupid, right, but
- 51:26Speaker 1: they needed a reason to have Lisa away from all
- 51:28Speaker 1: this ridiculousness so she could be the one saying Dad
- 51:31Speaker 1: what are you doing Bart was kind of doing here. Yeah,
- 51:34Speaker 1: I don't know. It's just there was.
- 51:37Speaker 4: Some really some good ideas, Yeah, that weren't properly fleshed out.
- 51:42Speaker 1: It just feels like an opening act kind of thing
- 51:44Speaker 1: to set up a main story, not an entire sub story.
- 51:47Speaker 1: But anyway, it's what is. It is what it is.
- 51:49Speaker 1: But he says no slogan says, think definitely, But it's
- 51:51Speaker 1: actually no refunds. So he says, you're not going to
- 51:53Speaker 1: get any refunds, but you can work for us, and
- 51:55Speaker 1: she's just going to be the sales chick on the street.
- 51:57Speaker 1: And that's the end of the episode. That is the
- 51:58Speaker 1: end of the episode. In indeed, it's all in all,
- 52:01Speaker 1: it was nowhere near as bad as I remembered it being.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Just felt dated. I really didn't like the mipod stuff.
- 52:06Speaker 1: I just felt dated and whatever. But the way they
- 52:09Speaker 1: handled the Basher family and the bin Laden family should say,
- 52:13Speaker 1: and Homer being the oblivious idiot, I didn't mind it.
- 52:16Speaker 1: I had some moments where it felt a bit over
- 52:18Speaker 1: the top and ridiculous, but it's a TV colity, You're
- 52:20Speaker 1: going to have those moments. And I just thought overall,
- 52:23Speaker 1: they they handled it quite well. Yeah, look it's a
- 52:25Speaker 1: solid idea.
- 52:25Speaker 4: It's coming to the table a little late, and what
- 52:28Speaker 4: they brought to the table was kind of like, Eh,
- 52:30Speaker 4: this platter is a little unwieldy, and not everybody likes
- 52:34Speaker 4: this food, but their heart was in the right place.
- 52:37Speaker 1: Yeah, what do we learn, Bomber? So what did you
- 52:41Speaker 1: learn from this episode? Danno? I learned that even wooden
- 52:44Speaker 1: reindeers are animals too. They have feelings, don't put it.
- 52:50Speaker 1: What did I learn? I learned how Dane cook felt.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Yeah I did. I'm Dane Cooking year twelve. We used
- 52:54Speaker 1: to listened to him religiously, like we love the guy.
- 52:56Speaker 1: We thought it was hilarious. I went back and listened
- 52:58Speaker 1: to that same stand up a year ago. I went,
- 53:03Speaker 1: there's one bit that I think is really good, but
- 53:05Speaker 1: the rest of it is just yeah, chicks man, Yeah,
- 53:09Speaker 1: my dear, Yeah, And you're like.
- 53:12Speaker 4: I can't say I've got a problem with any of it.
