- Lucas: And welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 144 — can you believe it? We've come a long way. Lucas: We sure have. And today we're adding three more body parts. You already know a lot, so this will be a nice little expansion. Luna: Ooh, I love building my Dutch body vocabulary. What are we learning? Lucas: Today's words are: de pols, de enkel, and de heup. Let's start with de pols. That means 'the wrist'. Luna: De pols. The wrist. That's a handy word — pun intended. Lucas: Nice one. De pols. Say it with me: de pols. Luna: De pols. Lucas: Perfect. Now, de enkel — the ankle. Luna: De enkel. That sounds a bit like 'ankle' actually. Lucas: It does, right? De enkel. Luna: De enkel. Lucas: And finally, de heup — the hip. Luna: De heup. That one is new. De heup. Lucas: Exactly. Now let's put them in a little scene. Imagine you're at the doctor's. Luna: Oh, I hope I'm not injured. Lucas: No no, just a check-up. The doctor says: 'Doet uw pols pijn?' — Does your wrist hurt? Luna: Ah, so 'pols' in a question. Doet uw pols pijn? Lucas: Right. And you answer: 'Nee, mijn pols is prima.' — No, my wrist is fine. Luna: Nee, mijn pols is prima. Got it. Lucas: Good. Now the doctor asks: 'En uw enkel?' — And your ankle? Luna: En uw enkel? That's easy. 'Mijn enkel is ook prima.' — My ankle is also fine. Lucas: Excellent. And finally: 'Hoe is het met uw heup?' — How is your hip? Luna: Hoe is het met uw heup? I'll say: 'Mijn heup is goed.' — My hip is good. Lucas: Perfect. So you've used all three. Let's review: de pols, de enkel, de heup. Luna: De pols, de enkel, de heup. I think I've got them. Lucas: Let's do a quick quiz. I'll say the English, you say the Dutch. Wrist. Luna: De pols. Lucas: Ankle. Luna: De enkel. Lucas: Hip. Luna: De heup. Lucas: You nailed it. Just if you feel like it. Now, back to our body parts. Let's practice one more sentence: 'Ik heb mijn enkel verstuikt.' — I sprained my ankle. Lucas: Good one. Ik heb mijn enkel verstuikt. Say it. Luna: Ik heb mijn enkel verstuikt. Lucas: Great. And 'Ik heb pijn in mijn heup.' — I have pain in my hip. Luna: Ik heb pijn in mijn heup. That could be useful. Lucas: And 'Ik draag een horloge om mijn pols.' — I wear a watch on my wrist. Luna: Ik draag een horloge om mijn pols. Nice. So 'pols' is also where you wear a watch. Lucas: Exactly. Okay, let's do a final round. Listen and repeat after me: de pols. Luna: De pols. Lucas: De enkel. Luna: De enkel. Lucas: De heup. Luna: De heup. Lucas: Perfect. Practice these words, and next time you talk about your body in Dutch, you'll be ready. Thanks for joining us today on Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Luna: See you next time! Tot ziens!
