- 0:05Speaker 1: He Hello, friends from across the nation and around the world.
- 0:09Speaker 1: I'm Martin, and you are listening to Dad's bedtime Stories tonight.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I thought we should do something a little bit special
- 0:19Speaker 1: and put together a super story for you, and I
- 0:23Speaker 1: thought we'd go back to one of my favorite series
- 0:26Speaker 1: one I haven't done a new episode from in a while.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Kid Wizard, a world where your very beliefs shape your
- 0:36Speaker 1: reality and you use those beliefs to create magic. A
- 0:42Speaker 1: big shout out and thank you to everyone who's been
- 0:45Speaker 1: listening to the podcast, and I hope you enjoy this
- 0:48Speaker 1: bonus episode for the weekend. Have a good one everyone.
- 0:55Speaker 1: All right, everyone, no time to waste. It's that time.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Your eyes get as comfy as you can in that
- 1:03Speaker 1: bed and imagine yourself doing what the kid in the
- 1:07Speaker 1: story does. Now. I know a lot of our stories
- 1:12Speaker 1: take place with you waking up in the morning, but
- 1:15Speaker 1: today we're going to skip that part. You're walking along
- 1:22Speaker 1: a long, long sidewalk and the day is very, very hot.
- 1:31Speaker 1: As you walk, you start to get more and more
- 1:36Speaker 1: well hot and sweaty. You feel like you really need
- 1:44Speaker 1: a break. You come to a little park area and
- 1:49Speaker 1: you see a little bench over in the shade. You
- 1:54Speaker 1: walk over to the bench and sit down. The side
- 1:59Speaker 1: of the bench actually sort of burns your hand. It's
- 2:02Speaker 1: so hot you really need to do something to cool down.
- 2:09Speaker 1: With that in mind, you close your eyes and you
- 2:14Speaker 1: start to imagine it being colder. You picture yourself in
- 2:20Speaker 1: a cold, snowy place with ice everywhere, the cold breeze
- 2:26Speaker 1: hitting your skin and making you shiver. And the more
- 2:32Speaker 1: you imagine, the more you try to remember a time
- 2:36Speaker 1: when you were actually really, really cold, and slowly you
- 2:44Speaker 1: begin to feel shivers going through your body. You imagine
- 2:49Speaker 1: yourself breathing in the cold air and breathing out steam
- 2:54Speaker 1: and mist. Strangely, it seems to be working. Your body's
- 3:01Speaker 1: starting to feel colder. It almost feels like you are
- 3:06Speaker 1: sitting in the snow, surrounded by ice and breathing that
- 3:11Speaker 1: really cool fog breath you get in the winter. You
- 3:16Speaker 1: take in another deep breath, and as you let it out,
- 3:20Speaker 1: you open your eyes. Strangely, you see your breath as
- 3:27Speaker 1: if it were a cloud of mist, just like you
- 3:30Speaker 1: would in the winter. Hah. You look down and the
- 3:37Speaker 1: bench is covered in ice, which is now quickly starting
- 3:42Speaker 1: to melt. The ice is mostly surrounding the area where
- 3:48Speaker 1: you are sitting, but it spreads out a little bit
- 3:51Speaker 1: away from you. I wonder, you say to yourself. You
- 3:59Speaker 1: close your eyes again and you attempt to find that
- 4:04Speaker 1: same feeling, the feeling of cold surrounding you and the
- 4:10Speaker 1: cold breath. And then you open your eyes once again.
- 4:16Speaker 1: As you look down at your hands, you see ice
- 4:20Speaker 1: particles kind of well moving outward from them, covering the
- 4:26Speaker 1: surface of the bench, and a thin layer of ice. Oh,
- 4:33Speaker 1: you say. You kneel down on the ground and you
- 4:39Speaker 1: put your hands down on the grass. You imagine the
- 4:44Speaker 1: cold sensation once again spreading out from your fingertips, and
- 4:50Speaker 1: you watch as a layer of ice starts to spread
- 4:54Speaker 1: out across the grass, freezing each piece. As the area
- 5:00Speaker 1: of frozen grass gets wider and wider and wider cool.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You run over to the play equipment next and you
- 5:12Speaker 1: look at the little slide on it. Now, slides are
- 5:16Speaker 1: fun at all, but you decide that an ice slide
- 5:20Speaker 1: might be even more fun. You climb to the top
- 5:25Speaker 1: of the playground and you kneel down in front of
- 5:29Speaker 1: the slide. You put your hands down on it, and
- 5:33Speaker 1: once again you imagine that cold sensation flowing through your body,
- 5:40Speaker 1: out through your hands, and covering the entire slide and
- 5:44Speaker 1: a thin layer of ice. Slowly it starts to happen.
- 5:50Speaker 1: The ice spreads out from your fingertips down the slide,
- 5:54Speaker 1: spreading outward and downward until the entire slide is covered.
- 6:00Speaker 1: You jump on and you slide down it much faster
- 6:05Speaker 1: than normal. This is so cool, you say, and then
- 6:11Speaker 1: you realize you're in the middle of a park and
- 6:15Speaker 1: you're freezing things. You look around to see if anybody noticed. Luckily,
- 6:24Speaker 1: nobody seems to be watching right well, time to head home.
- 6:32Speaker 1: You continue down the sidewalk, and then you walk and
- 6:37Speaker 1: walk and walk, feeling completely cool and completely calm, until
- 6:44Speaker 1: your surroundings become more familiar. You soon find yourself in
- 6:50Speaker 1: your own neighborhood, walking towards your own house. You enter
- 6:55Speaker 1: the house, and you spend the rest of the evening
- 6:58Speaker 1: inside your room playing around with freezing different objects. Are
- 7:05Speaker 1: you some kind of well superhero like freeze person or
- 7:12Speaker 1: something like that? You wonder how did you get these
- 7:17Speaker 1: special powers? It's all kind of overwhelming and well, making
- 7:24Speaker 1: everything freeze seems to have tired you out more than
- 7:27Speaker 1: you would have thought. You climb into bed, pull the
- 7:31Speaker 1: covers over top of yourself, and you head to bed
- 7:35Speaker 1: for the night. You wake up early the next morning
- 7:42Speaker 1: and you hear it tapping on your window. Huh eh,
- 7:48Speaker 1: that's that, you say, as you open your eyes, rub
- 7:53Speaker 1: the sleep out of them, and blink towards your window.
- 7:59Speaker 1: You walk up to unlatchet and open it up to
- 8:03Speaker 1: see what's going on. On the other side of the window.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Is a well, it's a carpet, a carpet that's just
- 8:15Speaker 1: kind of floating in the air. It zooms straight into
- 8:21Speaker 1: your room through the window and sort of floats upright
- 8:26Speaker 1: in front of you. One of the corners of the
- 8:29Speaker 1: carpet acts sort of like a hand. It grabs a
- 8:33Speaker 1: piece of paper and holds it out to you. The
- 8:38Speaker 1: paper says, if you want to learn more about magic,
- 8:45Speaker 1: climb aboard. Is this some sort of weird dream you
- 8:50Speaker 1: wonder a floating magic carpet and freeze powers. It all
- 8:59Speaker 1: must be a dream, and if it is, well, why
- 9:03Speaker 1: not go along with it. The carpet lays out flat,
- 9:08Speaker 1: floating in the air. Of course, you carefully climb aboard
- 9:13Speaker 1: and hold on to the edge of the carpet. The
- 9:16Speaker 1: carpet floats up in the air a little more and
- 9:20Speaker 1: then zooms straight towards the window. You quickly duck your
- 9:24Speaker 1: head as you fly through. The carpet flies higher and
- 9:29Speaker 1: higher and higher, and you hold on to it as
- 9:33Speaker 1: tightly as you can. Soon you're flying high above the world.
- 9:39Speaker 1: You can feel the wind against your face as the
- 9:42Speaker 1: carpet just sort of zooms through the air. You look
- 9:48Speaker 1: at the world below, and you watch as your house
- 9:52Speaker 1: gets further and further into the distance. The carpet just
- 9:57Speaker 1: keeps flying and keeps flying until the landscape starts to change.
- 10:04Speaker 1: You cross over large areas of water, lakes, rivers, forests,
- 10:11Speaker 1: until you come to a huge area of trees, very
- 10:17Speaker 1: old looking trees. All of them are surrounding a large
- 10:23Speaker 1: mountain in the middle of nowhere, and at the top
- 10:26Speaker 1: of the large mountain is one of the oldest trees
- 10:31Speaker 1: you've ever seen. The magic carpet loops around the mountain
- 10:37Speaker 1: a few times and then comes down for a landing
- 10:42Speaker 1: right in front of the old, ancient tree. It stops
- 10:47Speaker 1: for a second while you stare at the large trunk
- 10:51Speaker 1: of the tree, and then the carpet starts to fly
- 10:54Speaker 1: straight towards it, straight towards the trunk of the tree.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Thinking you're about to crash, you close your eyes and
- 11:03Speaker 1: hold up your arms, but you don't crash. You just
- 11:09Speaker 1: sort of go straight through the tree. You find yourself
- 11:14Speaker 1: in a really colorful tunnel that winds and bends in
- 11:19Speaker 1: every different direction. You fly directly through the center of
- 11:24Speaker 1: the tunnel, and eventually you pop out the other side.
- 11:30Speaker 1: The carpet stops and you look behind you to see
- 11:33Speaker 1: the exact same tree, only it's standing atop a different mountain,
- 11:41Speaker 1: in a well, a different place, a place you've never
- 11:47Speaker 1: seen before. The carpet continues to fly and you see
- 11:52Speaker 1: in the distance that there's some sort of well castle.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Only the tower of this castle seem to rise up
- 12:03Speaker 1: much higher than any castle you've ever seen. In fact,
- 12:08Speaker 1: they rise right up into the clouds themselves. Surrounding the
- 12:13Speaker 1: castle is a beautiful landscape, and filling the landscape are
- 12:19Speaker 1: a whole bunch of different people, people flying around on
- 12:26Speaker 1: magic carpets and well broomsticks. As you fly closer to
- 12:34Speaker 1: the castle, you see people all throughout the grounds throwing
- 12:40Speaker 1: balls of fire, bolts of lightning, creating tornadoes, or moving
- 12:47Speaker 1: the earth itself as if they're practicing magic or something
- 12:54Speaker 1: like that, and then the thud hits you. Are you
- 12:59Speaker 1: in some sort of magic academy. That would be amazing.
- 13:05Speaker 1: You've always wanted to go to a magic academy. The
- 13:10Speaker 1: castle and the grounds of the castle itself are surrounded
- 13:14Speaker 1: by all different sorts of environments. Forests that stretch out
- 13:20Speaker 1: into the distance, deserts, mountain regions, and well just about
- 13:28Speaker 1: every kind of environment you could ever ask for, stretching
- 13:33Speaker 1: directly away from the castle like little slices of pie,
- 13:38Speaker 1: each area getting bigger and bigger the further away they go.
- 13:44Speaker 1: The magic carpet starts to circle around and around and
- 13:49Speaker 1: lower itself down towards the entrance to the castle. As
- 13:54Speaker 1: it gets close enough to the ground, it sort of
- 13:58Speaker 1: tips up behind you, allowing you to gently slide off
- 14:03Speaker 1: onto the floor. And standing directly in front of you
- 14:09Speaker 1: is a pretty tull, pretty wizardly looking fellow. Hey there,
- 14:17Speaker 1: the guy says. My name's Martin, and I'm here to
- 14:22Speaker 1: show you around. Uh okay, you respond this way, Martin says,
- 14:31Speaker 1: as he walks towards the castle doors. The doors open up,
- 14:36Speaker 1: revealing a very busy and very magical looking castle, objects
- 14:44Speaker 1: flying in all sorts of different directions, Brooms and other
- 14:49Speaker 1: sorts of things cleaning up on their own. Meanwhile, all
- 14:54Speaker 1: sorts of people are headed in all sorts of directions.
- 14:59Speaker 1: There's all hs of staircases leading up and down, left
- 15:03Speaker 1: and right. It would be an easy place to get
- 15:08Speaker 1: lost in this way, Martin says, gesturing for you to
- 15:13Speaker 1: follow him. He walks towards a large door at the
- 15:17Speaker 1: back of the castle, and as he approaches, the door
- 15:21Speaker 1: opens up, leading into something that looks like a big
- 15:26Speaker 1: throne room. He reaches into his well wizard robe and
- 15:33Speaker 1: pulls out what could only be described as a magic
- 15:37Speaker 1: wand he waves the wand around in the air, and
- 15:41Speaker 1: soon a few very comfortable chairs slide out of nowhere
- 15:47Speaker 1: and surround a little table. Here. You have a seat,
- 15:53Speaker 1: Martin says. You sit down on one of the comfy chairs,
- 15:58Speaker 1: and Martin sits down across from you. So he says,
- 16:05Speaker 1: I see you've discovered magic I have. Do you mean
- 16:13Speaker 1: the ice thing, you ask? Of course, I mean the
- 16:17Speaker 1: ice thing, Martin responds, But I don't even know how
- 16:23Speaker 1: I did that. I was just thinking of being cold,
- 16:27Speaker 1: and well it kind of just sort of happened. Well,
- 16:33Speaker 1: in my experience, if it happens once, it can happen again.
- 16:39Speaker 1: What you've tapped into is the secret to magic, Martin explains.
- 16:47Speaker 1: You see, most people probably think that wizards have some
- 16:53Speaker 1: sort of different wizarding genes or something ridiculous like that.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But the truth is the only thing that makes a
- 17:03Speaker 1: wizard a wizard is the different way they think, the
- 17:10Speaker 1: way they think. You say, yeah, you see, well, other
- 17:15Speaker 1: people are all inductrinated into thinking now you can't shoot
- 17:21Speaker 1: fire out of your hands, or you can't go around
- 17:25Speaker 1: floating up in the air or transforming things into different things.
- 17:31Speaker 1: We wizards know that that is not true at all.
- 17:36Speaker 1: You see, things are only as real as you think
- 17:40Speaker 1: they are. Uh okay, are you saying things aren't real?
- 17:46Speaker 1: You ask, Well, of course things are real, but I
- 17:51Speaker 1: mean matters matter. You can speed it up, you can
- 17:56Speaker 1: change its particular way of existing. Man. Uh yeah, when
- 18:03Speaker 1: you truly understand that you can do just about anything.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Uh okay, you say so, you're saying I'm like some
- 18:17Speaker 1: sort of wizard. Well not yet, but we called you
- 18:23Speaker 1: here because we see the potential. What you've done is
- 18:28Speaker 1: used your belief to turn a hot day into a
- 18:32Speaker 1: cold day. Man, if you can do that, you've shown
- 18:37Speaker 1: that you can probably learn other types of magic as well. Man,
- 18:43Speaker 1: that's why we brought you here to the magic Academy.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Martin says, this is some sort of magic academy then,
- 18:53Speaker 1: just like I thought, But where exactly is it? You ask, Oh, well,
- 19:02Speaker 1: where is kind of a funny question. You see, this
- 19:07Speaker 1: particular magic academy is kinda well nowhere. It exists in
- 19:15Speaker 1: the thoughts of the people who are here. Wizards created
- 19:21Speaker 1: it a long time ago. It's kind of like a
- 19:24Speaker 1: pocket dimension, the place that exists inside existence itself. You
- 19:32Speaker 1: just stare at Martin for a while, wondering exactly what
- 19:37Speaker 1: then means? Does that mean I'm going to like go
- 19:41Speaker 1: to a wizarding school like Harry Potter and attend potions
- 19:46Speaker 1: classes and stuff like that. You ask, well, not exactly.
- 19:53Speaker 1: We don't really have formal classes per se. Each new
- 19:58Speaker 1: student is given a well mentor of sorts, and I'm
- 20:04Speaker 1: gonna be yours if you'll have me. Anyways, Martin explains,
- 20:10Speaker 1: my job is to teach you the ways of magic
- 20:14Speaker 1: in a way that works for you. If we need
- 20:17Speaker 1: other people who are experts on stuff. Well, we can
- 20:21Speaker 1: go find them. There's all sorts of wizards around here. Cool,
- 20:29Speaker 1: you say, well, what's next? Well, what's next is that
- 20:36Speaker 1: you are gonna have to find a magic wand I
- 20:40Speaker 1: mean you don't really need a wand to do magic,
- 20:44Speaker 1: but it kind of helps amplify things and focus things,
- 20:50Speaker 1: Especially when you're a beginner wizard. You should take all
- 20:54Speaker 1: the help you can have. Uh, okay, well where do
- 20:59Speaker 1: I go find a wand? You ask, Well, that's a
- 21:04Speaker 1: great question. What you're gonna have to do is head
- 21:08Speaker 1: deep into the magic forest and find a tree that
- 21:13Speaker 1: you kinda connect with. And I mean you should feel
- 21:19Speaker 1: a strong, strong connection to this tree. Okay, you respond,
- 21:28Speaker 1: do I need to take anything with me? Well, you
- 21:33Speaker 1: can take the magic carpet. It's yours to use for now.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Oh and here take this, Martin says, handing you what
- 21:42Speaker 1: appears to be a very normal looking backpack. What's what's this? Well,
- 21:51Speaker 1: let's just say it'll keep you safe when it needs to.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Oh okay, You put the backpack on, sliding one arm
- 22:02Speaker 1: through then the other, and then you climb atop the
- 22:07Speaker 1: magic carpet that's just sort of been floating beside you.
- 22:12Speaker 1: See in a bit, Martin says, waving goodbye. Uh, yeah,
- 22:18Speaker 1: see yous soon once they have that magic Wand no, well,
- 22:24Speaker 1: I didn't mean to send you with the impression you
- 22:25Speaker 1: were actually gonna come back with a magic Wand what
- 22:29Speaker 1: you need to get is a magic stick. We'll turn
- 22:32Speaker 1: it into want later. Martin explains, Uh, got you find
- 22:37Speaker 1: a magic stick? All right, I'll see you soon, you say,
- 22:44Speaker 1: waving goodbye to Martin. Yeah, see you soon. Martin gives
- 22:50Speaker 1: the carpet a little kick, and the carpet zooms out
- 22:54Speaker 1: of the hall. You pass back through the doors into
- 22:58Speaker 1: the main area, and then out of the main doors
- 23:02Speaker 1: and into the open air. You circle around the castle
- 23:07Speaker 1: once again, looking out at all of the different pie
- 23:11Speaker 1: shaped environments that lead away from the castle, growing larger
- 23:17Speaker 1: and larger as they go. The magic carpet heads directly
- 23:21Speaker 1: for the forest environment. You fly long and far over
- 23:27Speaker 1: top of the forest, and the further you go, the
- 23:31Speaker 1: larger the forest becomes. As you look around, you you
- 23:36Speaker 1: see that it isn't just any normal forest. It's definitely
- 23:43Speaker 1: a magical forest. You see all sorts of magical creatures
- 23:48Speaker 1: flying above the trees, Unicorns, griffins, some sort of fire phoenix.
- 24:00Speaker 1: The trees below you don't look exactly normal either. I mean,
- 24:05Speaker 1: they're not scary, but they're definitely moving in ways you
- 24:10Speaker 1: wouldn't expect from trees. You then feel a strange pull
- 24:15Speaker 1: in a direction to your right. You look over and
- 24:20Speaker 1: something shining in the distance, or at least you think
- 24:25Speaker 1: you saw something shining in the distance. This way, carpet,
- 24:31Speaker 1: you say, pulling the carpet to the side and heading
- 24:35Speaker 1: directly for the little shiny thing that you thought you saw.
- 24:41Speaker 1: As you get closer, the trees in front of you
- 24:45Speaker 1: seem to get larger and larger and larger. You lower
- 24:51Speaker 1: the carpet down towards the ground, directly in front of
- 24:55Speaker 1: a huge and ancient tree. Think about this tree has
- 25:01Speaker 1: attracted you towards it. I think this is the tree
- 25:07Speaker 1: where I'm supposed to get the stick. Maybe I just
- 25:12Speaker 1: sort of cut it off, you say, looking at the carpet.
- 25:16Speaker 1: The carpet just sort of shrugs in response. Wait the backpack.
- 25:23Speaker 1: You whip the backpack off your back. You open up
- 25:27Speaker 1: the zipper and you look inside. Strangely, instead of a
- 25:33Speaker 1: backpack full of stuff, all you see is a ladder
- 25:37Speaker 1: leading down into a hole, a hole that shouldn't really
- 25:44Speaker 1: exist because it's a backpack. Uh, okay, maybe that's not
- 25:53Speaker 1: the answer. You close the backpack up again and place
- 25:57Speaker 1: it on your back. You look to towards the tree and
- 26:01Speaker 1: step forward. High tree, I'm supposed to find a magic
- 26:08Speaker 1: stick to turn into a magic wand have any ideas
- 26:14Speaker 1: for me? You ask, A sound says As the tree
- 26:21Speaker 1: starts to creak and shift, a long branch begins to
- 26:27Speaker 1: move down towards you. At the end of the branch
- 26:31Speaker 1: is a perfectly wand looking stick. You reach out and
- 26:36Speaker 1: grab the stick. It glows for a second and then
- 26:41Speaker 1: just sort of detaches itself from the rest of the tree.
- 26:46Speaker 1: The tree's branch pulls away again, and the tree makes
- 26:51Speaker 1: another long, grunting sound. Well, I think we got it,
- 26:58Speaker 1: you say to the carpet. You jump back on board
- 27:02Speaker 1: the carpet, and you head back towards the castle. It
- 27:06Speaker 1: isn't hard to find your way, since the forest gets
- 27:09Speaker 1: smaller and smaller, almost pointing itself towards the castle itself.
- 27:16Speaker 1: You circle down and fly directly through the main doors,
- 27:21Speaker 1: then through the other set of doors where Martin was
- 27:25Speaker 1: waiting for you. I got it, you say to Martin. Oh, perfect,
- 27:31Speaker 1: Martin responds, But the rest of this is going to
- 27:35Speaker 1: have to wait till tomorrow. This kind of took longer
- 27:39Speaker 1: than I expected. Martin says. Oh, do I just go
- 27:44Speaker 1: home then and come back tomorrow? You ask, well, if
- 27:49Speaker 1: you want to, nobody's keeping you here. But most of
- 27:53Speaker 1: us just sleep in our backpacks, Martin says, as he
- 27:56Speaker 1: pulls a large bag out of his wizard robes, places
- 28:00Speaker 1: it on the ground. He opens the bag up, and
- 28:04Speaker 1: then he sort of steps inside it. He climbs down
- 28:10Speaker 1: what looks like a ladder and waves goodbye. See in
- 28:15Speaker 1: the morning, he says, as he disappears into the bag.
- 28:20Speaker 1: The bag then closes, floats up in the air, and
- 28:24Speaker 1: uh well, disappears from existence in a blink. Oh kay,
- 28:32Speaker 1: you say, as you open up your very own backpack
- 28:36Speaker 1: and once again see the long ladder leading into the
- 28:41Speaker 1: large hole. You climb inside the backpack carefully, and then
- 28:48Speaker 1: step by step, you head down the little ladder. When
- 28:53Speaker 1: you get far enough down, the backpack closes above you. You
- 28:58Speaker 1: reach the bottom of the ladder and you find yourself
- 29:01Speaker 1: in a pretty large room, pretty large for a backpack anyways.
- 29:09Speaker 1: The room has almost everything you'd need inside it. A bed, desk,
- 29:16Speaker 1: a shelf of books. Oh, okay, some sort of pocket dimension,
- 29:25Speaker 1: I guess. The magic carpet floats up beside you and
- 29:30Speaker 1: then lays itself down on the ground. You're feeling pretty tired,
- 29:36Speaker 1: so you climb into the bed. You pull the covers
- 29:41Speaker 1: over top of yourself, and you let your head hit
- 29:44Speaker 1: the pillow. This bed itself might be magic. It's so
- 29:52Speaker 1: soft and so comfortable. You immediately allow your heavy eyes
- 29:58Speaker 1: to close. As they do, the lights in the room, dimmed,
- 30:04Speaker 1: are just the perfect amount of light to sleep in.
- 30:10Speaker 1: With each breath, you allow yourself to sink down deeper
- 30:15Speaker 1: and deeper into the mattress as you allow your mind
- 30:21Speaker 1: to drift off to thoughts of new dreams and new
- 30:26Speaker 1: adventures to come. Good night, everyone. Imagine yourself waking up.
- 30:33Speaker 1: You get out of bed and you look around the room.
- 30:37Speaker 1: It's not like your bedroom. It's oh yeah, you almost
- 30:43Speaker 1: forgot that last night you went to sleep and your
- 30:46Speaker 1: new magic backpack. This place is pretty cool. It's got
- 30:52Speaker 1: a bedroom area, a little living room area with a TV,
- 30:57Speaker 1: and even a small kitchen. In the center of the
- 31:02Speaker 1: room is a ladder that leads up to the exit.
- 31:06Speaker 1: You head on up the ladder and when you get
- 31:09Speaker 1: to the top, you one zip the zipper of the backpack.
- 31:13Speaker 1: As you climb out, you find yourself well climbing out
- 31:18Speaker 1: of a tiny little backpack. It's a really strange feeling.
- 31:25Speaker 1: As soon as you climb up, you zip the backpack
- 31:27Speaker 1: back up and look around you. You're still in the
- 31:31Speaker 1: training area of the Magic Academy. Suddenly another bag poofs
- 31:37Speaker 1: into existence beside you, Martin's bag. The top of it
- 31:42Speaker 1: opens up and out climbs a very tall and very
- 31:47Speaker 1: bald looking wizard. Now, good morning. How'd you like the sleep,
- 31:53Speaker 1: Martin asks, it was pretty cool. So you guys don't
- 31:59Speaker 1: have dorm or anything around here, you ask, Now, we
- 32:05Speaker 1: save a lot of money in space just having everybody
- 32:07Speaker 1: sleep in their dimensional backpacks. It's a pretty cool thing.
- 32:12Speaker 1: And did I mention that after you're inside, they just
- 32:17Speaker 1: kind of disappear, leaving you completely safe. And it's a
- 32:22Speaker 1: great place to go if you're in trouble. In fact,
- 32:26Speaker 1: we have built in alarms inside them. H If you
- 32:29Speaker 1: ever find yourself in a tricky situation, you can just
- 32:33Speaker 1: press the alarm button and the Wizard's counsel will send
- 32:37Speaker 1: help best things since sliced bread, if I do say
- 32:41Speaker 1: so myself. Now, where were we yesterday? Oh yeah, we
- 32:47Speaker 1: were gonna finish making your magic wand uh you still
- 32:51Speaker 1: got the stick? Uh? Oh, I think I left it
- 32:55Speaker 1: inside my backpack. Just a second, I'll go get it.
- 32:59Speaker 1: No need, Martin says, Just reach inside, think about what
- 33:04Speaker 1: you want. Man, it should find its way to your hand.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Oh kay, you respond, You open up the backpack, stick
- 33:13Speaker 1: your hand down inside, and just kind of hope that
- 33:18Speaker 1: the stick finds its way to it. Suddenly you feel
- 33:21Speaker 1: something in your hand and you pull it out of
- 33:24Speaker 1: the backpack. The stick. Perfect, Martin says, snatching the stick
- 33:30Speaker 1: out of your hand. Now we got to head up
- 33:33Speaker 1: the Wizard's Tower to make a power pathway through this baby.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Let's go. Martin leads you through a series of hallways
- 33:42Speaker 1: until you come to a large set of doors. As
- 33:46Speaker 1: the doors open up, you find a little floating platform
- 33:51Speaker 1: in the middle. These things work kind of like elevators,
- 33:54Speaker 1: hop in, Martin says. You step onto the little circular
- 33:59Speaker 1: place latform inside the tower lake structure. The doors close
- 34:06Speaker 1: and the platform shoots upwards at amazing speed. You go
- 34:12Speaker 1: higher and higher and higher and higher and higher, much
- 34:16Speaker 1: higher than you thought the castle actually was, until the
- 34:21Speaker 1: platform finally comes to a stop and another set of
- 34:25Speaker 1: doors open up. You walk out into a large room
- 34:29Speaker 1: surrounded by windows on every single side. As you look
- 34:34Speaker 1: out the windows, you see that you're far above the world,
- 34:39Speaker 1: far above the clouds. This tower is made for this
- 34:45Speaker 1: exact purpose, in order to create a magic wand the
- 34:49Speaker 1: first thing you have to do is pass some serious
- 34:53Speaker 1: power through it. You don't want it to fall apart
- 34:56Speaker 1: when you're doing magic after all. Martin walks over to
- 35:00Speaker 1: a little pedestal with some clips on the top. He
- 35:05Speaker 1: carefully clips the stick into the pedestal, and then he
- 35:09Speaker 1: presses a button beside it. The pedestal rises up, up
- 35:14Speaker 1: and up out a little hatch above the tower that
- 35:18Speaker 1: you're in. Then he presses another button and the hatch closes.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Uh what do we do now, you ask, Now we
- 35:28Speaker 1: wait for some lightning? Well, oh, I sense it here
- 35:32Speaker 1: it is. A giant bolt of lightning streams through the sky.
- 35:37Speaker 1: It hits the stick that's up on the pedestal and
- 35:40Speaker 1: blasts directly through the other side. When the lightning's done,
- 35:46Speaker 1: Martin presses the button again and the pedestal lowers down,
- 35:51Speaker 1: leaving a slightly burnt and slightly smoking stick. Oh perfect,
- 35:58Speaker 1: Now we just have to find the core for this.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Want come on over here. Now, it's important to find
- 36:05Speaker 1: a core that kind of well meshes with your own personality.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Let's see here. We got unicorn fur, phoenix tail, feather,
- 36:18Speaker 1: thestral hair, a demi guy's oh an acromanchula, you know,
- 36:25Speaker 1: like giant spider's kid. Never mind, we got a kitsen, a,
- 36:30Speaker 1: a griffin, a hippogriff ooh, a kelpie, a wampuskat, a sphinx,
- 36:38Speaker 1: uh jack elopen, I wonder hair kid? All this one?
- 36:48Speaker 1: Martin hands you a long, very sturdy like string. You
- 36:54Speaker 1: take a hold of it and look at it in
- 36:56Speaker 1: all different directions. Oh what do I do now, you ask, Well,
- 37:03Speaker 1: just kind of focus your energy into it and see
- 37:06Speaker 1: if anything happens. You do your best to focus on
- 37:10Speaker 1: the little string, and to your amazement, it lights up
- 37:15Speaker 1: a bright blue color and it gets brighter and brighter
- 37:19Speaker 1: and brighter. Wow, I think we've got a match. Martin says,
- 37:26Speaker 1: this is a whisker from a ice dragon. Seeing as
- 37:30Speaker 1: your first power was the power of ice. It makes
- 37:34Speaker 1: a lot of sense. Here, give it back to me.
- 37:37Speaker 1: You hand Martin back the little string. He takes the
- 37:41Speaker 1: string and he takes the little stick and he kind
- 37:45Speaker 1: of jams them together. Then he uses his own wand
- 37:50Speaker 1: taps it a few times, and the wand solidifies on
- 37:55Speaker 1: every side and it begins to glow. And I think
- 38:00Speaker 1: we've got ourselves a magic wand Martin says, handing you
- 38:05Speaker 1: the wand back. Now, let's go see if you can
- 38:09Speaker 1: use this thing. Come with me. You head back into
- 38:13Speaker 1: the elevator like device and quickly zoomed down to the
- 38:18Speaker 1: bottom floor. You and Martin walk through the same series
- 38:23Speaker 1: of hallways until you come back to the indoor training area. Now,
- 38:29Speaker 1: Martin says, the best way to learn magic, in my opinion,
- 38:35Speaker 1: is to start with the kind of magic you already know,
- 38:39Speaker 1: and then slowly work your way from there into other
- 38:44Speaker 1: similar magics. It's a step by step process that was
- 38:49Speaker 1: patented by well me. Some young wizards have trouble making
- 38:56Speaker 1: any other kind of magic than the first one they discovered.
- 39:01Speaker 1: But I find when you understand the reason for the
- 39:04Speaker 1: magic and what's going on behind the scenes, and it's
- 39:08Speaker 1: all kind of related. Now. As for the wand, the
- 39:13Speaker 1: only reason for it is to amplify the power you
- 39:16Speaker 1: already have. What I want you to do is hold
- 39:21Speaker 1: the Wand in your hand, then close your eyes and
- 39:26Speaker 1: focus on the feeling you had the first time the
- 39:30Speaker 1: ice magic appeared. When you get that feeling, allow it
- 39:36Speaker 1: to flow through the wand and out the other end.
- 39:41Speaker 1: You close your eyes and you start to take a
- 39:44Speaker 1: few deep breaths. You remember the feeling you had when
- 39:49Speaker 1: the ice appeared. You remember imagining yourself in a very
- 39:54Speaker 1: cold place. Slowly shivers make their way down your spine.
- 40:00Speaker 1: You feel the power of the cold and you focus
- 40:04Speaker 1: it on the wand itself. Before you know it, out
- 40:09Speaker 1: of the other side of the Wand is a huge
- 40:13Speaker 1: stream of well icy air or something like that. Wow, kid,
- 40:20Speaker 1: you're a natural. Try to put these things out. Martin
- 40:25Speaker 1: uses his own wand to light a few little fires
- 40:28Speaker 1: on the ground. One by one. You point your wand
- 40:32Speaker 1: towards them, channel the ice magic through and quickly put
- 40:37Speaker 1: out the fires. This is so cool. What else can
- 40:42Speaker 1: I do? Well? Since you're good at the ice magic,
- 40:47Speaker 1: the next thing might be to bring some water into
- 40:52Speaker 1: the equation and you see, ice magic is most powerful
- 40:57Speaker 1: when combined with water out Lucky for us, there may
- 41:02Speaker 1: not be a pond in the area, but there is
- 41:05Speaker 1: water in the air. Watch this, Martin demonstrates, using his
- 41:12Speaker 1: wand waving it around in the air. Somehow, little particles
- 41:17Speaker 1: of water start to appear out of nowhere and then
- 41:21Speaker 1: form themselves together in a long spike. The spike solidifies
- 41:27Speaker 1: into a giant, scary looking icicle, and then Martin shoots
- 41:32Speaker 1: it across the room. Whoa cool You think I can
- 41:36Speaker 1: do that? You ask, Well, probably not. I mean, it's
- 41:40Speaker 1: a combination of a lot of different kinds of magic. First,
- 41:44Speaker 1: you have to be able to feel the water, and
- 41:48Speaker 1: then control the water, and then shoot the water in
- 41:52Speaker 1: whatever direction you want it to go. Man, it seems easy,
- 41:55Speaker 1: but it's really not. What do you mean by feeling
- 42:00Speaker 1: the water? Well, the best way to describe it is,
- 42:05Speaker 1: you know how you can feel your body, sense where
- 42:08Speaker 1: your hands and fingers are and all that stuff. Martin asks, Uh, yeah,
- 42:14Speaker 1: it just feels kind of natural to me. Well, what
- 42:19Speaker 1: you're gonna have to do is expand your consciousness into
- 42:23Speaker 1: the air around you. Then when you've done that, you're
- 42:29Speaker 1: gonna try to feel the water in the air, bring
- 42:34Speaker 1: it slowly together, and then you do your ice thing,
- 42:39Speaker 1: freezing it in place, and then you just kind of
- 42:42Speaker 1: will it away from yourself. It sounds easy, but I
- 42:46Speaker 1: can promise you it is amazingly difficult. You decide to
- 42:51Speaker 1: give it a try. Anyways, You close your eyes and
- 42:56Speaker 1: you start by focusing on your breath, breathing deeply in
- 43:01Speaker 1: and out. You go to a place where you feel
- 43:06Speaker 1: calm and your mind feels at ease. Then you attempt
- 43:12Speaker 1: to expand your consciousness into the surrounding area, feeling the air,
- 43:20Speaker 1: the wind, and even the water that finds itself inside
- 43:25Speaker 1: the air. You feel as though your mind has expanded
- 43:30Speaker 1: all around you, and as you search for the water,
- 43:36Speaker 1: it responds. You start to feel little drops of water
- 43:41Speaker 1: everywhere you look. You focus on the water and you
- 43:47Speaker 1: start to bring the water together, just like you saw
- 43:51Speaker 1: Martin do. You form it into a long, spiky shape,
- 43:57Speaker 1: and then you allow your ice power to shoot through it,
- 44:02Speaker 1: freezing it into a solid icicle. You continue to focus
- 44:07Speaker 1: on the icicle as if you're grabbing it with your mind,
- 44:11Speaker 1: and then you sling shot it away from you. The
- 44:15Speaker 1: icicle flies across the room and breaks against the wall.
- 44:19Speaker 1: You open your eyes and you see Martin staring at you.
- 44:25Speaker 1: What did you just Did you just shoot a night?
- 44:29Speaker 1: I No one's ever done that before on the first day, kid,
- 44:35Speaker 1: And I think you might be a prodigy. And the
- 44:41Speaker 1: next step is for you to learn fire or heat,
- 44:46Speaker 1: And it's kind of the opposite of ice, so I
- 44:49Speaker 1: think it'll be easy for you to grasp same fundamentals
- 44:53Speaker 1: after all, only well opposite anyway, I'm getting kind of hungry.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Why don't we head to the caffeteer? Okay, how do
- 45:02Speaker 1: I get there? Well, I'll come with you this time.
- 45:06Speaker 1: But if you're ever on your own, all you have
- 45:09Speaker 1: to do is ask the building to show you where
- 45:12Speaker 1: you want to go. Man, it will watch this building
- 45:18Speaker 1: bring me to the cafeteria. Out of nowhere, little lights
- 45:24Speaker 1: begin to appear on the ground, little lights creating a
- 45:28Speaker 1: trail that leads out of the training room and into
- 45:31Speaker 1: the hallway. You and Martin follow the trails, zigzagging through
- 45:37Speaker 1: the large castle until you find another set of stairs
- 45:41Speaker 1: that lead up to a huge open area, the cafeteria.
- 45:47Speaker 1: It more resembles a food court in a mall, with
- 45:51Speaker 1: all sorts of different restaurants on every side. The far
- 45:56Speaker 1: end of the cafeteria opens up to the outside world
- 46:01Speaker 1: with a huge stone patio. Both inside and outside, there's
- 46:06Speaker 1: tons and tons of chairs and tables, all filled with
- 46:11Speaker 1: all sorts of different aged wizards. Well, go get whatever
- 46:16Speaker 1: you want and meet me back here, Martin says. You
- 46:20Speaker 1: walk from store to store, you see that each one
- 46:24Speaker 1: makes a different kind of food, and each one makes
- 46:27Speaker 1: your stomach growl. You find a place that makes some
- 46:32Speaker 1: of your favorite breakfast food and you grab a food tray.
- 46:37Speaker 1: What you want. The person running the place asks, give
- 46:44Speaker 1: me some of that, and some of that. Oh, and
- 46:47Speaker 1: some of that, you say, pointing to some of your
- 46:50Speaker 1: favorite breakfast foods. Understood, the man says, scooping up huge
- 46:58Speaker 1: globs of all of the different things you've selected. You
- 47:02Speaker 1: pick up the tray, your eyes wide in amazement with
- 47:06Speaker 1: all the amazing food you're gonna eat. You turn around,
- 47:11Speaker 1: and unfortunately you bump into somebody sending your tray and
- 47:16Speaker 1: his flying. The kid just stands there staring you down.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Who exactly? Ah? You? The kid asks? You do your
- 47:31Speaker 1: best introduce yourself, but you keep stumbling over your words. Nah,
- 47:37Speaker 1: you know one of those people I, on the other hand,
- 47:42Speaker 1: am from a long line of fire wizards. My name
- 47:48Speaker 1: is Tyrannus Rexington, and you have messed with the wrong person.
- 47:57Speaker 1: The name seems kind of familiar, as if you've met
- 48:03Speaker 1: this person before, but you know you haven't, at least
- 48:07Speaker 1: not in this universe. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to
- 48:12Speaker 1: spill the food. Why don't I just get you some more?
- 48:16Speaker 1: It's too late for that. I challenge you to a duel. Duel,
- 48:26Speaker 1: I don't know if that's a good idea. You look around,
- 48:31Speaker 1: you hoping that Martin's still in the area, and luckily
- 48:34Speaker 1: he is. He sees what's happening and walks over towards you. Well,
- 48:39Speaker 1: what's going on over here, he says, This guy Tanis Rexington. Well,
- 48:48Speaker 1: he just kind of challenged me to a duel. Oh, well,
- 48:54Speaker 1: that'll be fun, Martin says, But it's my first day.
- 48:59Speaker 1: I barely know how to do any magic. You respond, now,
- 49:04Speaker 1: don't worry about it. Duels aren't dangerous. Here, Come with me,
- 49:10Speaker 1: Martin leads you in. Trannosaurus Rexington. Outside out on the
- 49:15Speaker 1: courtyard is a large well something that looks kind of
- 49:20Speaker 1: like a tennis court. Anyways, a dueling area. Now, let
- 49:26Speaker 1: me explain the rules for this duel. Basically, you can
- 49:29Speaker 1: each use whatever magic you want. I'll cover both of
- 49:34Speaker 1: you in a special shield that's designed to detect the magic.
- 49:39Speaker 1: If you get hit with what it decides to be
- 49:42Speaker 1: a well, a knockout blow, then the shield will activate
- 49:49Speaker 1: and the other person will win. Watch this. Martin swings
- 49:54Speaker 1: his wand around and taps you on the head. You
- 49:57Speaker 1: see something like a You feel toppear around your body
- 50:02Speaker 1: and then disappear altogether. He does the same to Tarannus.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Taranus walks to the other side of the dueling area
- 50:13Speaker 1: and Martin looks down at you. Don't worry, kid, and
- 50:17Speaker 1: this guy barely knows anything other than fire magic. He
- 50:21Speaker 1: and his family think they're big shots, as if they're
- 50:24Speaker 1: endowed with some special fire magic power. But what he
- 50:29Speaker 1: doesn't know is he's not special at all. Anybody can
- 50:33Speaker 1: do what he does. Just watch. Oh, and as you do,
- 50:38Speaker 1: try to sense what he's doing with the fire magic.
- 50:42Speaker 1: It might help us develop that power later. Oh okay,
- 50:49Speaker 1: you say. As you step forward into the ring, you
- 50:53Speaker 1: find yourself in a place you really didn't expect to be,
- 50:57Speaker 1: not fully prepared for the situation. All right, everyone, three,
- 51:03Speaker 1: two one go. As soon as Martin says go, Taranis
- 51:10Speaker 1: lifts his wand up in the air and shoots a
- 51:13Speaker 1: huge plume of fire out towards you. You dive to
- 51:16Speaker 1: the side, carefully dodging it. You look down at your
- 51:20Speaker 1: wand and back at him, and you decide it might
- 51:24Speaker 1: be time to try the same thing. You point your
- 51:28Speaker 1: wand towards him, and you try to get back that
- 51:32Speaker 1: feeling of ice. The feeling chills your body once again,
- 51:37Speaker 1: and you focus it through your wand, shooting a huge
- 51:41Speaker 1: plume of freezing air at him. In response, he causes
- 51:46Speaker 1: some sort of fire field to pop up around his body,
- 51:50Speaker 1: completely protecting himself from the frozen air. I might have
- 51:55Speaker 1: to come up with something else, you think. Tarana shoot
- 52:00Speaker 1: to another plume of fire towards you, and you respond
- 52:04Speaker 1: by hitting that plume of fire with the ice breath
- 52:08Speaker 1: or whatever you might call it. The two fields of
- 52:12Speaker 1: magic hit each other. You become locked in a battle,
- 52:16Speaker 1: you trying to push your ice magic towards him, and
- 52:20Speaker 1: him trying to push his fire magic towards you. Kid
- 52:25Speaker 1: expand your consciousness sense what he's doing, Martin says, as
- 52:32Speaker 1: you continue to focus on your wand and the huge
- 52:35Speaker 1: plume of freezing air shooting out of it. You close
- 52:40Speaker 1: your eyes just a little bit. You focus on your
- 52:44Speaker 1: senses once again, just like you did before, and you
- 52:48Speaker 1: allow your consciousness to expand not just in your body,
- 52:54Speaker 1: but into the surrounding area. From there, you're able to
- 52:58Speaker 1: see the battle from from an outside perspective. You see
- 53:04Speaker 1: and you feel the ice shooting out of your wand
- 53:07Speaker 1: it feels cold and still. But then you feel the
- 53:14Speaker 1: fire shooting out of Tyrannus's wand it feels kind of
- 53:20Speaker 1: like the opposite, as if all of the particles in
- 53:24Speaker 1: the air are being sped up vibrated faster in order
- 53:29Speaker 1: to heat them up. Huh, all he's doing is just
- 53:36Speaker 1: vibrating the air faster, just like I imagined, making things colder.
- 53:43Speaker 1: He's doing the opposite. I wonder if I can do that,
- 53:50Speaker 1: you think to yourself, and then, in a move that
- 53:54Speaker 1: you're really not sure is going to work, you allow
- 53:58Speaker 1: your beam of frozen air to disappear. The fire shoots
- 54:02Speaker 1: straight towards you. Instead of dodging it, you stick your
- 54:08Speaker 1: wand out and you intercept it, guiding the fire around
- 54:13Speaker 1: your body again. You feel the vibration as if the
- 54:18Speaker 1: air itself is moving very quickly, spinning very fast. You
- 54:24Speaker 1: try to keep up that vibration by allowing your own
- 54:27Speaker 1: energy to go into it. You spin the fire around yourself,
- 54:32Speaker 1: and then you shoot it back in the other direction,
- 54:36Speaker 1: directly at Tyrannus. Without having time to realize what's happening,
- 54:42Speaker 1: the beam of fire hits him directly in the stomach,
- 54:46Speaker 1: sending him flying. His shield activates and a stream of
- 54:51Speaker 1: fireworks shoot up into the air. Well, guys, I think
- 54:55Speaker 1: we have a winner. Good job, kid, Martin's steps forward
- 55:00Speaker 1: and holds up your hand. All of the other wizards
- 55:04Speaker 1: who have been watching stand silent for a second, and
- 55:09Speaker 1: then they begin to clap. Wow, kid, and I think
- 55:13Speaker 1: you really are a prodigy, Martin says. You spend the
- 55:19Speaker 1: rest of the day practicing your ice magic, and you
- 55:24Speaker 1: try your hand at fire magic. Two. You find that
- 55:28Speaker 1: the trick to the two is that ice magic slows
- 55:33Speaker 1: things down and fire magic speeds them up. You try
- 55:39Speaker 1: to imagine things slowing down and stopping to make them cold,
- 55:45Speaker 1: and speeding up and vibrating really quickly to make them hot.
- 55:49Speaker 1: It doesn't take long to get the sense for both
- 55:52Speaker 1: of them, but you get a little carried away, training
- 55:57Speaker 1: far too long, and you soon find yourself completely exhausted. Ugh,
- 56:04Speaker 1: good thing, I can sleep wherever I want, you say,
- 56:08Speaker 1: pulling out your backpack once again. You one zip the
- 56:12Speaker 1: zipper and the backpack reveals a long ladder down into
- 56:16Speaker 1: your own secret layer. You climb inside and down the ladder,
- 56:22Speaker 1: zipping up the backpack above you. You crawl into your
- 56:27Speaker 1: bed and pull the covers over top of yourself. Your
- 56:31Speaker 1: eyes feel very, very heavy, so you let them close,
- 56:38Speaker 1: allowing them to just kind of do what they want
- 56:41Speaker 1: to do. You focus on your breath, and with each
- 56:47Speaker 1: out breath you try to relax your muscles more and more,
- 56:53Speaker 1: starting with your legs, then your arms, and your body,
- 56:59Speaker 1: allowing your muscles to just relax and sink down deeper
- 57:04Speaker 1: into the mattress, and allowing your mind to wander off
- 57:10Speaker 1: to wherever it wants to go, to worlds of new
- 57:16Speaker 1: dreams and new adventures. Good Night everyone,
