- 0:15All you have to do is follow three simple rules. One, never underestimate your
- 0:20opponent. Expect the unexpected.
- 0:23Two, take it outside. Never start anything inside the bar unless it's absolutely necessary.
- 0:30And three, be nice. Ask him to walk, but be nice.
- 0:35If he won't walk, walk him, but be nice.
- 0:38If you can't walk him, one of the others will help you. I want you to be nice
- 0:43Until it's time To not be nice Well, uh, how are we supposed to know when that is?
- 0:51You won't I'll let you know You are the bouncers, I am the cooler All you have
- 0:56to do is watch my back And each other's Take out the trash,
- 1:01Hey everybody, we're back here With another mini retrospective Here at Citizen Frame.
- 1:07You asked for it We're gonna give it to you That sounds like a threat That's
- 1:11right This is the greatest trilogy
- 1:14of all time Some of you might think The original Star Wars trilogy No,
- 1:20not even close The Godfather trilogy,
- 1:24Nope Has nothing on these bad boys Because we're here to talk The Roadhouse
- 1:30trilogy Now some of you are like,
- 1:32wait a minute There's only one Roadhouse And then there's that requel kind of
- 1:37thing That came out on Amazon A couple months back You would be wrong Because
- 1:43during all this research We found Roadhouse 2 The Last Call Oh,
- 1:51yep There was a sequel,
- 1:53people And because you're such a wonderful listening audience This particular
- 2:00podcast We're going to be talking Roadhouse And, of course Yes.
- 2:06Roadhouse 2, The Last Kong. Yep. We dot all our I's and cross all our T's.
- 2:12You know what I mean? So this, yeah, so this will be a retrospective for the
- 2:16original two, and then the requo will get its own next week.
- 2:19But I would say as well that the Roadhouse trilogy, even though I haven't even
- 2:22seen the third one, you know, this new one yet, but I will do for this next
- 2:27podcast, I would say that they are,
- 2:30based on the first two, still better than the Disney Star Wars trilogy. So there you go.
- 2:37That's kind of pushing it Nope At least
- 2:40they're more authentic There's competency behind
- 2:44the Star Wars ones I mean come on The Disney ones Yeah I mean you still have
- 2:50Harrison Ford in there And there's some of the original cast And Force Awakens
- 2:54gets a pass alone Yeah but they sabotage them And also Force Awakens is just a remake Yeah but to say,
- 3:01Roadhouse 2 Last Call Is better than those come on,
- 3:05Don't you think I mean you're being a little silly,
- 3:09Depends what way you look at it But yeah Alright we're going to talk about Roadhouse
- 3:13here Directed by Rowdy Harrington What a great name for a guy who directed Roadhouse,
- 3:20Rowdy Yeah that's the perfect name for someone That would perhaps frequent A
- 3:27sort of stereotypical Sort of redneck bar Where all people do is fight instead of drink And talk,
- 3:34What the fuck is frequent?
- 3:37Frequent. Oh, I thought you said frequent. I was like, what the fuck? No, frequent. Okay.
- 3:42All right. Rodney Harrington, he's done some good stuff. He did Striking Distance,
- 3:47which I like, with Bruce Willis.
- 3:49And he directed Jack's Back, which is a nice little Jack the Ripper film with
- 3:53James Spader back in the late 80s. It was pretty good.
- 3:55I think I remember that, yeah. Yeah, so he's done some good stuff.
- 3:59Yeah, I remember seeing this in the theater, and it wasn't a big hit.
- 4:04I mean, it made some money, but not the big hit you think it would be.
- 4:07It's more of a cult hit, believe it or not, and it was the soundtrack that got more press.
- 4:14Over here, it really sort of became popular whenever it was first released on video.
- 4:21Like a lot of films back then, I remember everyone,
- 4:24you know, all the kids I sort of knocked about with thought it was great,
- 4:28and it was, when I first watched this, I remember having a mate and I'm not
- 4:33going to mention him, I'm not going to mention his name,
- 4:35but he thought this was so fucking good it made him want to be,
- 4:39he sort of aspired to be a bouncer.
- 4:42And seeing that there, I wanted to be a boxer after watching Rocky IV but so...
- 4:46They're not bouncers, man, they're coolers.
- 4:52Dalton's a cooler. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, so the Jeff Healy band And was made,
- 4:58was famous in this. They're the ones who obviously started it with him.
- 5:01Jeff, Jeff Healy plays Cody. Now sad story about Jeff Healy died very young at 41.
- 5:07Yeah. Cancer, lung cancer. Yeah. But at eight months old as a child,
- 5:11they had to remove his eyes because he had cancer.
- 5:14In the eyes or something like that. I can't remember what it was,
- 5:17but so they gave him glass eyes. Learned how to play the guitar when he was three.
- 5:21Yeah. I mean, what an oppressive accomplishment for going through such crap.
- 5:27And sadly, it's still taken early at 41. But the Jeff Healy band's music in
- 5:31this is wonderful. Just absolutely wonderful.
- 5:33And give them a massive shout out.
- 5:36This movie is considered, it is actually listed, the most enjoyable bad movie ever made. Right?
- 5:43Yes. And let's just dive into this film.
- 5:48I remember loving it when I was younger. Now I'm watching it for the podcast eyes.
- 5:53It really doesn't hold up. It's a massive slice of 80s cheese.
- 5:58Like, you know, this is like quintessential 80s cheese.
- 6:02Yeah, I know we use that word a lot. They, you know, cheese,
- 6:06but some of it doesn't work.
- 6:08Yeah. It doesn't carry over well, but you like, I still like Cobra,
- 6:12even though it's bad 80s cheese, you don't like that 80s cheese,
- 6:17but you might like this. I guess it's all to each their own really.
- 6:21Thank you. Okay. I mean, Cobra is, I mean,
- 6:24I mean, it's... No, you hate it. Come on. Yeah.
- 6:28But regarding 80s cheese, the real 80s cheese that I would love would be Tango and Cash.
- 6:34You know, stuff like that. Yeah. All right, so this one we got Patrick Swayze
- 6:38as Dalton, Kelly Lynch as the really believable Dr. Clay.
- 6:44See, whenever she's first introduced, it's as if she's walked off a fucking porn set.
- 6:49You know what I mean? Yeah, she actually was very good in an independent film
- 6:53by Gus, I think it was Gus Van Sant, who with Matt Dillon called Drugstar Cowboy.
- 6:59Yes, yes. That's where she kind of got discovered.
- 7:01She's very good. And she's not a bad actress. In this one, she's terrible.
- 7:05Yeah, she's basically Dr. Pornstar.
- 7:09The actor that pretty much saves any hope for the film would be Sam Elliott, the man who never ages.
- 7:16He's looked like. He pretty much
- 7:17plays. Sam Elliott has looked like 80 Sam Elliott since, well, the 80s.
- 7:23Yeah He pretty much played a lot The problem I have with Sam Elliott Obviously
- 7:27not from personal But he seemed to play the same types of characters Yeah,
- 7:32Sam Elliott I mean, I suppose that's his niche That's his thing That's fucking
- 7:36sad Don't diss Sam Elliott,
- 7:39Ben Gazzara as Brad Weasley Marshall Teague as Jimmy Kevin Teague Marshall Teague,
- 7:45yeah Kevin Teague as Frank And then Jeff Healy, Red, Emmett, Pat,
- 7:50Carrie, Jack and Steve Yeah So there we go So, yeah,
- 7:54you know, we talk about really good writing.
- 7:59This doesn't have it. So I almost think these next two films we're about to
- 8:05talk about just wrote themselves as they went.
- 8:09Right? I mean, there's nothing here, really.
- 8:13I mean, the story is a man with a background is hired to help clean up an establishment at a small town.
- 8:24He wants to remodel it and clean it up and give it his name.
- 8:29So you hire this guy called, he's a cooler, and he goes in and he cleans up
- 8:33the bouncers, cleans up the ruckus and whatever.
- 8:37So all he does is, he's like Jack Reacher. He goes town to town.
- 8:41Mr. Wolf from Pulp Fiction. He's what? Mr. Wolf from Pulp Fiction. I solve problems.
- 8:48Oh, he's not the cleaner. No, I'm joking.
- 8:52In a way, he is, though. No, well, complete opposite. He's not cleaning up a crime scene.
- 8:58Well, maybe he is. Well, he is in a way. He's preventing crime.
- 9:02Yes, yeah, yeah. Like Cooper. Oh, Jesus.
- 9:07You're the Jesus. I'm like, you.
- 9:10Exactly, yeah. So I love when Frank gets stabbed.
- 9:16Yeah. And the guy goes, I can take you. I mean, nobody would behave like this. I mean.
- 9:21My thoughts exactly. nobody's gonna fight patrick
- 9:24swayze first of all right no no one
- 9:27person in this film behaves like actual
- 9:31human beings behave in real life also i have a major problem with the sort of
- 9:37bar itself i mean this bar this isn't a fucking bar this is a lunatic asylum
- 9:41but you can get rough bar i drank in rough bars i've you know went to rough
- 9:46bars you know the roughest of the rough bars this is It's just a pure cliche,
- 9:51you know, where it's just like, it's like a fucking WWF wrestling fucking Royal Rumble.
- 9:57It's just stupid. Yeah. And unrealistic.
- 10:00And that's pretty much, you nailed it on the head there with wrestling.
- 10:04This came at a time where wrestling was huge.
- 10:06Yes. And this is pretty much who this is for.
- 10:10Morons. No, don't keep me wrong, guys. I'm going to tear this thing to,
- 10:13I'm tearing this thing to shreds.
- 10:15But I love, I do enjoy it. I do like Roadhouse. And so I'm just gonna have fun
- 10:20over here. I could watch it again. It's,
- 10:24there's no there's nothing here right i
- 10:26mean we're on the same page this is just yeah hollow
- 10:30fun a big issue as well i i have with dalton's character as much as i like patrick
- 10:36swasey as a person he's just so so much so it's so much of a sort of cliche
- 10:41of a great guy he's no character flaws apart from the fact he fucking ripped
- 10:45somebody's throat out but um but um you know
- 10:49in his past you know and it's sort of he's tormented over you know all this
- 10:53here but the samuel you know sort of like sort of talks about you know talks
- 10:58to him about it later on and sort of reassures him but but he's just such he's
- 11:02over the top sort of perfect almost perfect guy,
- 11:07which you know what i mean he's a philosopher you know what i mean he can you
- 11:12know he can fight he's a top shagger with the women you know what i mean he's
- 11:16mr fucking ninja man who i'm steven a likable Steven Seagal, everything.
- 11:21You know what I mean? It's just fucking stupid.
- 11:25Yes, when he gets stabbed, you see him stitching himself up.
- 11:28He's romping as well. That's right. Yeah, he's romping on first blood.
- 11:31Yeah. So the double deuce is where he's going to go, and he gets 5,000 up front
- 11:36and 500 at night, and he gets full control.
- 11:40And I do like the little side thing where he always has to buy a piece
- 11:46of shit car because every time he goes into town to do this,
- 11:49his town gets wrecked the night of because they're, you know,
- 11:53the people he kicks out, he just, you know, just.
- 11:55Yeah. Pops through his tires and shit like that.
- 11:58Yeah. But his real cool car is locked away safely. Well, until the end.
- 12:02It's not really a cool car though, is it?
- 12:04But I think it's considered that. Back then maybe.
- 12:07Yeah. Yeah. Well, until the end, but it gets wrecked as well. Yeah.
- 12:12When he turns into James Bond. So he walks into the bar. He's all looking around.
- 12:19And then you have Carrie, the most annoying fucking character in the whole fucking
- 12:21film. I'm like, God, you're Dalton.
- 12:24I know. Like, first of all, who knows these great bouncer cooler guys?
- 12:28It's like they're fucking Harrison Ford or something. Celebrity bouncers?
- 12:32Yeah. Since when did that become a thing? Yeah.
- 12:35Are you fucking kidding me? Oh, my.
- 12:38He was fucking pretty much cream to your pants. because he
- 12:42says he's standing right there same with
- 12:45garrett he's like this legendary bouncer since when
- 12:48the bouncers become celebrities you know first of all wade sam elliott he gets
- 12:52away with it sorry sorry garrett it's wade are you sure right right sorry yeah
- 12:58there might be wade garrett yeah i think it might be yeah anyway very cowboy
- 13:03names dalton wade oh no they're They're totally, even Kelly Lynch,
- 13:08she's known as Doc, like Doc Holliday and stuff.
- 13:12That's intentional. And this film is a Western.
- 13:16Oh, of course it is. It's high noon. Guy comes into a town to clean it up.
- 13:20Yeah, exactly. Pale Rider.
- 13:22Yeah, yeah, totally. I wish we were watching Pale Rider.
- 13:27No, but I think it's kind of cool that they went for the sort of Western vibe,
- 13:30you know, but I mean, this is even like the sort of most cliched of Westerns.
- 13:36Aren't as cliched as this.
- 13:39I love how they're all bar and stuff. I love when he's assessing the bar and
- 13:44he's looking around and we don't think, what's he doing? He's not doing anything.
- 13:47He's not doing any bouchering.
- 13:48And then the next day he goes, okay, waitress, you're fired.
- 13:52We serve beer, not drugs.
- 13:54You're done for fucking chicks in the back of the bar.
- 13:57And you're done. You're stealing. And the guy, Pat, I think his name is,
- 14:01he actually is cousins of Benghazara.
- 14:05He's his nephew or something yeah they're all related yeah
- 14:08they're all related they're all inbreds and so that
- 14:11causes a ruckus you fired my the story here is so bad yeah mm-hmm and it's obvious
- 14:20that they're all gonna jump to the fucking the bad guy side and you know who
- 14:24runs the town you know and also for some reasons the bad guys drive monster
- 14:29trucks you know just to like what.
- 14:33It's bad bad that's just bad oh my god i i just don't know but yeah you you
- 14:42got ben you got ben kazar here playing the bad guy brad weasley and wesley whatever
- 14:47his name is and it's you really could have played with that here's the problem i have with the film,
- 14:52There's very little fights in it, believe it or not. And if you're either,
- 14:55like, have a second, and then it takes a serious turn when they kill Wade.
- 15:00Pretty brutal, actually.
- 15:02Yep. But this doesn't fit in for what we were just watching.
- 15:06It had to kill him, I think. It actually would have fit better in part two.
- 15:09Believe it or not, we'll get to it, what I'm talking about there.
- 15:11But they don't, it just seems very muddled.
- 15:16No, no. I think for a start, this film was too long. Yeah, it's almost fucking two hours.
- 15:23Yeah, but yeah, an hour and a half, you know, would have been more than enough.
- 15:27But I thought it was pretty obvious that Wade was going to get killed.
- 15:32I mean, they had to kill him off. It's basically like Cocktail or any of these
- 15:35types of films, or even Star Wars that were referenced earlier. Cocktail!
- 15:38No, where the mentor character has to die. It's like to add dramatic weight
- 15:43to the final act, you know, with the main character.
- 15:47It's, you know, they do it with Obi-Wan Kenobi, they do it with Harrison Ford in The Force Awakens.
- 15:52So it's the you know just add that extra dramatic
- 15:55weight for the final act so it was i i was i couldn't really
- 15:58remember i watched this in video when it was at first release in
- 16:01video so that was like 35 years ago
- 16:04or something so i couldn't really remember but watching him yeah
- 16:07he he's gonna die they're gonna have to kill him off i was disappointed that
- 16:11you didn't see his death scene i thought sam elliott himself deserved to be
- 16:15his death scene to be filmed instead they're just going to the barn or he's
- 16:19laying there and he thinks he's drunk and he goes, hey, get up, you know.
- 16:25I was, oh no, oh no, he's been stabbed in the back.
- 16:30And do you notice as well, I'm seeing on the note after he's been stabbed,
- 16:34you know the note, to Patrick Swayze, it was tails. Tails is spelt wrong.
- 16:39T-A-L-E-S instead of T-A-I-L-E-S.
- 16:44Is it? Yes, I'm near certain. It's quick shot.
- 16:49I can't see them making that mistake. Well, you never know. The writers of this
- 16:53probably didn't. I don't know. Who knows?
- 16:56But so when he goes to go to Emma's place, the barn guy, and that fucking barn
- 17:02he rents is pretty fucking nice.
- 17:04It's fucking gorgeous, but just by chance it's across the pond from that guy ranch.
- 17:09Yeah, I know. And then Carrie comes in to bring him breakfast.
- 17:13How the fuck does she get in? But whatever she comes in And he comes out naked
- 17:17And he's going toward the window And he sees fucking bay windows Which he's
- 17:22about to fuck Kelly Lynch in front of by the way And then he,
- 17:26Poses as his ass cheeks Flutter whatever and Carrie's like ooh I'm like oh fuck
- 17:33me get over yourself Swayze god love you man I like you But come on,
- 17:37What is he posing for a sculptor Sculptor what the hell,
- 17:42Yeah well again it's all too sort of add to the sort of, he's such a,
- 17:45he's, you know, all of us, he's such a brilliant guy and he's so cool,
- 17:49even though we'll know he's a top shagger anyway, or we'll soon know,
- 17:52but it's also not only that, he's the body of a Greek god,
- 17:57you know, this type of thing and he also, he does all this, I don't even know
- 18:00what it is, all this martial arts crap too.
- 18:03There's a scene where he goes into the auto shop, we meet Red,
- 18:06who I kind of like that character, I like the side characters,
- 18:08some of them, you know, Red's alright.
- 18:11And you find out his niece is doctor is it his daughter no no that's no she
- 18:17she's the the niece of the bad guy,
- 18:20the main bad guy no she's not yes she
- 18:23is yes she is i thought
- 18:27she was the niece of red the the no no no she's the
- 18:30niece of the main bad guy so she
- 18:33is seriously are you sure
- 18:36i'm i'm 90 sure i
- 18:39don't know i thought she was i thought red
- 18:41was her no no all right
- 18:45okay not unless i've got
- 18:48this completely wrong i'm pretty certain she's the
- 18:50the niece of me and bad guy you sure you're not getting confused with the second
- 18:56one that's what i was just thinking there to be continued because the second
- 19:00one she's the cousin of gary bouchy son yes of uh wild bill yes yes another
- 19:08way i I think it's Red's niece.
- 19:11No, I'm... Who gives a fuck? Exactly. It's not important. Yeah,
- 19:16it's not important. They didn't care. Why should we?
- 19:20Yeah. But there's a scene in the auto shop where Brad and Jimmy...
- 19:27No, what is it, Dalton and, is it Jimmy? Yeah, Dalton and Jimmy meet for the first time.
- 19:33He's the badass he's going to rip the throat out of. Yes, yes. They have this glare.
- 19:38It's like a fucking cologne commercial. I know. It's like, what the fuck?
- 19:42I know. Yeah, I know. It's so cheesy.
- 19:45You know what's a brilliant example of a film very like this, but done really well,
- 19:53where basically there's an asshole school in
- 19:56the south torturing everybody in this small town and
- 19:59and it has to be sorted out there's a film bully
- 20:02bob thornton called sling blade it's a fantastic film yeah
- 20:05okay that's the you you need to stop with your comparisons that is a completely
- 20:12completely different film no but i i would say it but but well there's similarities
- 20:18no there's not no no no neither is uh where it's filmed down south Yes,
- 20:23no, but there's also an asshole Sort of causing problems for everyone in town
- 20:27It's your Dwight Yoakam Yeah, yeah, alright Okay, to each their own, I guess,
- 20:33Or in your case Mm-hmm.
- 20:37I can't Your comparisons You could have said something completely Like,
- 20:43I would say home front But a guy coming back down south The town's being overrun
- 20:48by James Franco and the gang and Jason Statham there to settle the score.
- 20:54Yeah. Homefront is a much better version of this. I haven't seen Homefront.
- 20:58Which was written by Stallone.
- 21:01Right, I haven't seen it. You should check that one out. Yeah.
- 21:04Sling Blade. What the fuck?
- 21:06Sling Blade is a fantastic film. It's a great film, but it's a drama.
- 21:11Yes, well, technically this is a drama. No, it's not. Let's just move on.
- 21:17Goodbye, Green Demo. We're taking our side, Ciaran, you know?
- 21:23Fucking hell. Yeah. Oh, my God. Right up there with Tom Atkins and Tom Skerritt.
- 21:31Fuck. I love when Emmett gets up in the morning.
- 21:35He's going to feed his horse, whatever the fuck he's doing. And there's everybody,
- 21:40including the head bad guy, Ben Gazzara.
- 21:43He's across the lake. And we're all watching Patrick Swayze do Tai Chi.
- 21:48He doesn't notice them. but yeah again it's more
- 21:50of this they're basically it's basically the people who
- 21:53made the film masturbating over Dalton's character you know
- 21:57what I mean it's I love how he's like comes out of the bed and his ass is hanging
- 22:02out and he's doing Tai Chi and he's telling everyone he's a philosopher he believes
- 22:07in good and then he but he smokes like 12 packs a day what a load of fucking
- 22:12nonsense like you know it's just okay oh.
- 22:17It's just it's so it's It's like, oh, I don't know.
- 22:20It's like some sort of, you know, wish fulfillment self-insert from,
- 22:25I don't know, whoever wrote this.
- 22:26It's just, it's like, I don't know. I don't know. Maybe they were writing to
- 22:29sort of what, you know, a studio sort of demands or whatever,
- 22:33you know, make them like the coolest.
- 22:35It just doesn't work. It just comes across as really unrealistic.
- 22:39I mean, even Stallone, and even, oh, Stallone did a little bit in the 90s,
- 22:44but even Schwarzenegger wouldn't do this.
- 22:46Yeah, yeah. You know, he does, he just, come on, this is.
- 22:50I'll say it again no one character In this film behaves Like a real human being It's just It's mad Jesus.
- 23:01Actual human beings don't talk like this Or act like this So Pat goes to get
- 23:07revenge They're all gonna kick his ass And in the process Dalton gets stabbed
- 23:11Right so this leads him to go to the doctors And this is where we meet Dr.
- 23:16Clay cause that's believable Oh yeah Yeah, like it's pure like sort of 90s porn or something.
- 23:23You know what I mean? So there's a line. It's the best line in the film.
- 23:28And because the dialogue between him and Clay is groundbreaking.
- 23:33Something you see. Oh, it's such sexual tension. It's something you see in Shawshank
- 23:37Redemption. It's incredible.
- 23:38But. It's Shakespearean. He goes, she goes, here's, I'm going to give you a shot to numb the pain.
- 23:46He goes, I don't do that. but it's going to be painful he says I swear he says
- 23:54this pain don't hurt well yes it does, the definition of pain.
- 24:01Some of the lines here are like absurdly bad, it's like whenever he says,
- 24:09whenever we started cleaning up the bar and start a,
- 24:13it's going to get worse before it gets better No shit, Sherlock, no shit, Mr.
- 24:19Philosopher, you know, you know, it's Sigmund Freud. Yeah.
- 24:23In the States, especially in the eighties, this was, or even the seventies and
- 24:27sixties, a lot of films had these small town and this big bad man is taking over the town.
- 24:34First of all, this would never happen, but it's cliche. It is,
- 24:38it happens in every film, practically it happened with, uh,
- 24:43Nowhere to run with Van Damme. It happens everywhere in the 80s.
- 24:49It happens in film world.
- 24:49It's a Western trope. Yeah. Yeah. So just make a phone call to the FBI and go, hey, we got a problem.
- 24:56Yeah. That's it. End of the story. I mean, the guy's not that much of a badass.
- 25:01His henchmen are fucking losers besides Jimmy.
- 25:06And he's going to be useless to him soon when he gets his throat ripped out.
- 25:09Exactly. yeah and he he's like evil ninja man so he is you know and even the
- 25:15expressions and the acting it's it's just by the bad guys it's just completely
- 25:19over the top it's like if if a four-year-old was asked to write um what a bad
- 25:24guy's like you know what i mean you know it's well i don't know,
- 25:28so yeah he's taking 10 of what the town makes.
- 26:04I think that's what he's doing everybody's pages like who would stick that you
- 26:07know what what you know what's that's you know,
- 26:11well i don't know i'm assuming he quashes any
- 26:14sort of and he's not even threatening as a bad guy you
- 26:18know i mean apart from whatever he beats up his own man for some reason you know
- 26:21yeah well that's that's also the
- 26:25you know we saw it just recently with was
- 26:28it harold in long good friday they yeah he
- 26:31always beat up his own men well yes i know
- 26:34that's a thing but it's just kind of it's kind of the maintenance yeah
- 26:37but with here too but with here his
- 26:41his men are much younger and fitter
- 26:44but yet he's like a sort of older man
- 26:47who could just punch the fuck out of younger men it's just
- 26:49i don't know it just doesn't because they won't fight back well yeah
- 26:53i suppose that's why they're he's intimidated he runs
- 26:56the roost come on you didn't see that wonderful you
- 26:59didn't see that character development wow you
- 27:03didn't see that in roadhouse well you know as
- 27:06you know roadhouse is well known for its character development and you
- 27:09know and nuances and so when they
- 27:12when they learn adult outside and they start beating the shit out of them yeah
- 27:16i love even when he's getting his i mean he was getting beaten to death there's
- 27:21barely a there's not even a black eye no nothing And so Wade comes in to save
- 27:26the day And then reintroduced to great Sam Elliott So is that Yes.
- 27:32Who watching it now, I'd like seeing Sam Elliott in anything he does.
- 27:35Yeah. He was more just a cameo. His character's kind of wasted.
- 27:40Yeah, well, it would have been better with him, you know, for a lot more of
- 27:44it, you know, because at least he has a certain presence.
- 27:47Don't get me wrong, Swayze has a presence as well, but it's just the dialogue
- 27:51and the general woodenness of it.
- 27:54I mean, well, Swayze isn't great in this.
- 27:58It's very bland. He's very wooden. And I think that's the way he was told to
- 28:02do it. Meaning, cause we don't know who you are.
- 28:05You're a mysterious sort of guy. Yeah. Your emotions don't flow, whatever the fuck.
- 28:10But, but you've seen him in like Next of Ken, which is his next film. It's pretty good.
- 28:15And Ghost. I love that. And then there'll be Next. And so nothing,
- 28:19this is nothing against Swayze cause I like Swayze.
- 28:21Point Break, he's very good in. So he picks everything up, but I think this
- 28:25is direction that let him down.
- 28:27Yeah. Yeah, there's, again, it's just, it's, the problem with this is it takes,
- 28:32unlike Tango and Cash and stuff and other sort of examples of 80s cheese.
- 28:39They're sort of tongue-in-cheek and they don't take themselves too serious.
- 28:41This takes itself too serious. That's what I don't get.
- 28:45Versus tongue-in-cheek in some parts, right? Like you got Tubby when the bear
- 28:50falls on him. I just saw the bear fall on me. Yeah, yeah, at the end, yeah.
- 28:53But yeah, we have scenes where Denise kind
- 28:56of was beaten badly Bradley the girl the blonde
- 28:59hot little blonde girl that shows up in the film periodically yeah she
- 29:02gets beaten up by Ben Gazzara you don't see it but you see the
- 29:05aftermath of her face is all beaten and bruised yeah there's a
- 29:08suggestion there yeah you see Wade getting stabbed in the
- 29:10chest and so there's a lot of
- 29:13dark elements here but it's thrown in in the midst of kind of laughable goo
- 29:18I think there were maybe but laughable goo that also takes itself too serious
- 29:23but at times But I think that maybe a lot of the more sort of serious and sort of arguably,
- 29:31you know, potentially better elements were edited out.
- 29:35Apparently this film, you think this is long? Apparently this original cut of
- 29:38this film was close to four hours. Jesus.
- 29:43So maybe stuff like that where it's more sort of serious and actually potentially
- 29:49believable was left on the cutting room floor.
- 29:52Well, that would explain the Keith David. Keith David's a good actor I always like to see.
- 29:57Totally wasted. He plays Ernie, the new bartender. He's barely in it.
- 30:01Yep. He's in it for like 30 seconds.
- 30:04Yep. Big time, totally wasted. He's basically an extra. So he is. Yeah.
- 30:09You know? I thought it would be cool if we, I thought you should give him a
- 30:13part like, yeah, we see Keith David and even the audience will know who he is.
- 30:18And they'll be like, wait, what happened to him? Then he shows up at the end
- 30:21to help Dalton Like he's one of his buddies He's like a spy I wanted to see
- 30:25Pete David fight in it Yeah let him help him out Instead he poops paints,
- 30:31Very briefly I don't I think there was a lot of editing around his character as well,
- 30:38I don't get it It would have made more sense If Pete David was a mole to help
- 30:43him He's also one of the top billed In the opening credits So it's weird Weird. Yeah.
- 30:49Well, he'll definitely, his agent would fight for that. Oh, yeah.
- 30:52But you're right. There must have been more footage of him. Oh,
- 30:55yeah, yeah. I would imagine so.
- 30:58Oh, my God. Let's talk about the love scene.
- 31:03This is the funniest fucking thing. He's got these, he's in this barn,
- 31:08and it's pretty much this all open air barn, all these barn doors.
- 31:11You know how big those fuckers are? Because he's a cool guy,
- 31:13so he has to have a cool house. Yeah. They're fucking.
- 31:16Yeah. Ben Gazzara sitting there having a cigar, watching them fuck.
- 31:20Yes, pervert. And then when they're done fucking, as you do,
- 31:23Patrick Swayze goes outside naked, stands on a rooftop, sits on a rooftop naked.
- 31:31She shows up naked. They start fucking on that. Yep.
- 31:34And I was like, really? Yeah, yeah.
- 31:40Again, they're trying to make the audience just say, you know,
- 31:43Dalton is such a cool guy.
- 31:46You know what I mean? He's just brilliant at everything, including making love
- 31:50to the ladies, you know. Making love to the ladies.
- 31:54Yeah, exactly. There's nothing this guy can't do.
- 31:58Including ripping throats out. Act would be up there, probably.
- 32:03Yeah. Well, I know. I suppose he's a good actor, but in this, it's pretty, oh, boy.
- 32:08Again, it just, it's almost,
- 32:12it comes across almost, It's almost calm
- 32:16It's so sort of cheesy You know what I mean And homoerotic as well You know
- 32:22How long has he been here Because every time he goes into the Double deuce It's
- 32:30new sign Then he goes in again,
- 32:32it's all remodeled It's like a different bar Yeah,
- 32:37He's so good.
- 32:40He's so brilliant and these people are so sick basically what they're saying
- 32:45is he can even get them to like they can't even put a fucking coat of paint
- 32:49on a bar without him keeping them right.
- 32:53Fuck. And then you have the whole sequence where Dalton, Clay, and Wade all go out.
- 33:03And he dances with the diner and Sam Elliott being Sam Elliott,
- 33:07all smooth and cowboy-ish.
- 33:09I should have caught this. This whole scene should have been cut. Yeah.
- 33:13In fact, there's no fighting in this whole movie, really. A couple of punches
- 33:16here and there. But I want, the real fighting is only between him and Jimmy.
- 33:20Yeah. and there's one when he
- 33:23gets stabbed when pat comes back to you
- 33:26know his job back but that's it yep there
- 33:31there isn't much yeah a lot of it's the
- 33:33the sort of the real drama of his you know his journey you know to um for cleaning
- 33:39up this town basically it's yeah look if you're going to have an 80s tease film
- 33:44like this and you know at least give us some action and some fight scenes and the like,
- 33:51you know, I don't want you to get a bet, you know, especially towards the end
- 33:54and stuff, but yeah, there should have been more.
- 33:57Yeah, like when we, Wesley, whatever his name is, Brad, the bad guy,
- 34:02takes a monster truck and goes to that man's dealership. This is, come on.
- 34:07Yeah, yeah, it's farcical.
- 34:10Usually if you have a bad guy and he's trying to threaten you to take town,
- 34:14he'll do what he did to Red's place. You'll burn it down.
- 34:17You're not going to go in public daylight light with witnesses and destroy a man's dealership.
- 34:24With a monster truck? That's so fucking stupid.
- 34:30Oh, yeah. Yeah. That's daft. Wow.
- 34:36But they get their comeuppance And then Patrick Swayze then turns into James
- 34:41Bond With his James Bond type car His cool car His real car Which he basically uses To distract them,
- 34:53There's another line Better when pain don't hurt This is the better line This
- 35:00is the best So Jimmy and Dalton are about to fight They're going to kick some ass ass.
- 35:05That's pretty good. It's an effective fight scene. It works.
- 35:08The stunk eyes and the actors did fine.
- 35:11But Jimmy holds his hands up, right? He's bleeding. Dalton's bleeding.
- 35:15He goes, I used to fuck guys like you in prison. That's right.
- 35:22Yeah. If I was Dalton, I'd be like, whoa, what?
- 35:29He goes, I'm just here to fight. Yeah. What's even the context of that line?
- 35:37What does that actually mean?
- 35:40It doesn't even make sense, really, in terms of the context of the scene. I know.
- 35:48It's like, are you trying to sell this, sir?
- 35:52Yeah, I mean, are you trying to hit on me? Are you trying to hit on... What does this mean?
- 35:58You know, it's bizarre. Oh, my God.
- 36:03Laughing it was yeah and
- 36:06then quickly ribs just thrown
- 36:10out yes yeah and kelly sees
- 36:12him do it and she's all horrified and stuff you know what i mean yeah because
- 36:16you know this is obviously a call back to his you know his backstory you know
- 36:20his traumatic backstory where i killed a man you know yeah but it was self-defense
- 36:27yeah both times both times James was self-defense,
- 36:31you know, where he's killing people.
- 36:34And he doesn't even kill the main bad guy at the end either.
- 36:37It's the fucking townsfolk raiding all.
- 36:39I kind of like that, actually. But after he rips the throne out,
- 36:45Liz sees this, Clay, Dr. Clay sees it.
- 36:48First thing she does is run over to Jim and he's like, is he okay?
- 36:53And I'll be like, if you're a doctor, I don't think he's coming back from this one. Yeah, Dr.
- 37:00Pornstar Oh god Oh Yeah,
- 37:06And then Wade gets it Again, it was just a write-off It was almost like Keith
- 37:11Davis' character He invested all this fucking time He deserved a cool death
- 37:16You got Sam Elliott and Keith David And they just kind of wasted,
- 37:19Sam Elliott deserved a cool death scene Instead he just He thinks he's drunk
- 37:24and he's got a knife in his back It's just In his chest. In his chest.
- 37:28Yeah. But there was that cool fight scene that he and Sam, that Wade and Jimmy had.
- 37:35Yes. That was pretty good because you can see he's still limping because Wade's got that injury.
- 37:39So they did play on that. But yeah, you're right. You needed something where
- 37:43he gets taken out and it should have been in front of him.
- 37:47And that would cause him to want to rip his throat out. Jimmy should have killed him in front of Wade.
- 37:52Yeah. No, in front of Dalton. In front of Dalton. Yeah. Yeah.
- 37:56A big dramatic moment like that would have worked instead. We'd just see the aftermath.
- 38:00Yeah, because you're playing it kind of, you're having a good time with it.
- 38:03You're just going with what the fuck. I don't care.
- 38:05But if you do a dark, if you turn the tables on the viewing audience and all
- 38:12of a sudden you see Wade get his head blown off right in front of Dalton and
- 38:16his blood's all over him, now people can go, okay,
- 38:19this has just turned up a level. And now we're with them. And that's the dramatic weight.
- 38:23Yes. They didn't do that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, instead we got a pearly spelt fucking note.
- 38:30I gotta look at that. I don't think that's, I can't see them fucking that out.
- 38:34It's a quick shot. It could be though, because they're not, the funny thing is, you're right.
- 38:38The bad guys aren't very smart. Yeah, it could be intentional.
- 38:42Yeah, it could be like deliberate.
- 38:45Totally. But I do like that they all shoot them.
- 38:50Yes. Red, Emmett, the Ford guy, ownership dude, they all take a shot at him. Yeah.
- 38:57And I kind of like that. And they hide the guns and the sheriff's like, what? Yeah.
- 39:03And then it ends with Dr. Clay and Dalton skinny dipping.
- 39:11Again, Dr. Pornstar and Mr. Perfect. Yeah. Yeah.
- 39:16Everybody that's happily ever after. And stupid guy gets a polar bear, our faults on top of.
- 39:21Wow. You know. Guys are dead.
- 39:24Well, I ripped this movie pretty good, but I watch it. I enjoy it. It is.
- 39:30It's something about the 80s. Yeah. It gets away with it.
- 39:34Yeah. You can't, I mean, I don't want it.
- 39:38I'd watch. I'll put it in and watch and have a good laugh. But from a...
- 39:44Technical aspect of it it's a train wreck yeah it's complete and utter nonsense but but it.
- 39:52Wouldn't be as effective for me as like say maybe tango and cash or whatever
- 39:55yeah tango cash is 3 000 times better than this yeah it's really entertaining
- 39:59but to me this is just it does irritate me at times a lot of the time but at
- 40:04the same time i do laugh at some of the more outrageous
- 40:08sort of campy sort of over-the-top adht
- 40:11it takes itself way too serious way more
- 40:14serious than it should yeah you know whereas i was
- 40:17they would work better with something more on the tone of
- 40:20of tango and kaiser maybe even lethal weapon
- 40:23where it's actually you know with you know with quirky one-liners and
- 40:26stuff the the character at dalton is preposterous
- 40:30you know mr perfect that bugs
- 40:33me but yeah it does have a certain
- 40:35replay value in terms of of it as a bit of a cult you
- 40:38know for a few sort of crazy one-liners and a few decent fight
- 40:42scenes you know and stuff i think people who listen to
- 40:45this review and we know a lot of people like this film they'll
- 40:49agree with everything we just said and laughing at it but the same time we all
- 40:54have a soft spot for it yeah and we still enjoy it so that's where that's the
- 40:59difference that's what it is so people won't be offended about what we said
- 41:02even though it's one of their favorites because Because they know that's why
- 41:06they like it. We're not lying here.
- 41:07And I would say, despite the character of Dalton being ridiculous of the highest
- 41:14order, Sweetie's always likable.
- 41:17Yeah, exactly. I like Sweetie. He's got a good on-screen presence.
- 41:20Yes. And you're always rooting for him.
- 41:22Even in Point Break, he played that teetering on good and bad.
- 41:27All right, next up. That's right, people.
- 41:32Bonus episode. Or might not be a bonus episode because you're going to probably
- 41:37want to go, what the fuck?
- 41:39Depends what way you view it. Now, guys, do you want any spoilers if you haven't
- 41:43seen, because no one else has, Roadhouse 2, Last Call.
- 41:48This was directed, I can't believe this. This is actually directed by Scott Ziel.
- 41:53This man has given us some great, great shit.
- 41:57Like Shadow Witness, remember that one? Broken Vessel?
- 42:02And the cult hit Squanderers. Yep.
- 42:07Never heard of them. Nope, neither have I. Never heard of them.
- 42:11And what do you do to replace Patrick Swayze? You get Jonathan Skeets.
- 42:16I can never pronounce his last name. All I know is the guy was in that Tom Hanks
- 42:21film, that thing. That thing, yeah, that's what put him on the map.
- 42:24Yeah. He plays Shane. You got Ellen Holman, who plays Bo.
- 42:29Richard Norton is Victor Cross. Jake Busey is way over the top, way overused.
- 42:35He's better as a cameo. Wild Bill. And you get, I shocked Will Patton's in this,
- 42:41who plays Nate Turner. Then he got a bunch of shit.
- 42:44Now, Will Patton, there is a little side story here.
- 42:48And if you replace Will Patton, he plays Nate Turner.
- 42:53Yes. He owns a bar. He's not a cooler. He owns the bar.
- 42:57Yeah. You replace him with Dalton, because originally this character was supposed to be Dalton.
- 43:02That's right. And Dalton was supposed to own the bar. He's retired,
- 43:06owns a bar, and something goes wrong, and he's hospitalized.
- 43:11That's where the story was supposed to go. And then Creative Differences,
- 43:15Patrick Swayze walked away.
- 43:17Yes. Now, when they say Creative Differences, I'm going to assume Patrick Swayze
- 43:21just read the script and says, fuck off.
- 43:24Yeah. That's what it was. There's no way he had any say in this,
- 43:28because this is terrible.
- 43:30So they basically killed Dalton off-screen.
- 43:33He was murdered by basically Jake Pussy.
- 43:37Dalton's dead? Dalton's dead? This is about Dalton's son? Yeah.
- 43:42What? This is about Dalton's son. This is Dalton's son. Shane is Dalton's son? Yes.
- 43:50Were you paying attention? No.
- 43:53This is Dalton's son. Dalton has been murdered. How many? Wait a minute.
- 43:59Oh, and Will Patton raised him. Yes. Will Patton is Dalton's brother.
- 44:06No. But what's Dalton's last name? What?
- 44:10What was Dalton's last name in Roadhouse? I can't remember.
- 44:13I just know it was Dalton. Yeah, but no, no. In the story of this film,
- 44:19Shane is Dalton's son, and Will Patton is his brother, and Shane's... So how old is this?
- 44:27Exactly. I was thinking the same thing. Is this set in the future?
- 44:31Is this science fiction?
- 44:32Yeah. Because he would be a lot older then, because Jonathan's like 30.
- 44:38Yeah, I know that there. Yeah, well, he's He's at least like 28 or something. So he is.
- 44:44But no, no, this is Dalton's son. He's a DAA agent. He's 30.
- 44:48Yeah, yeah. So yeah, he's about late 20s, about 30.
- 44:53So yes, this is the story of Dalton's son. So this is a direct sequel to Roadhouse.
- 44:59Whether people like it or not, this is a direct sequel. I didn't catch that. He's his son.
- 45:05Yep. Okay, who gives a fuck? Yeah. so yes
- 45:10but and the backstory is that whenever he
- 45:12was a rookie cop whenever shane was a rookie cop he
- 45:16basically also the everything's really sort of it's a very small world here
- 45:21because it just happens to be that the town shane goes to just happens to have
- 45:25these same bad guys that killed his dad dalton but you know so like tiny universe
- 45:30here but anyway yeah the backstory is whenever he He was a rookie cop.
- 45:35He basically, main bad guy, he busted main bad guy for drugs.
- 45:39So main bad guy was out for revenge and sent Jake Boosie, who's the most fucking
- 45:43stupidest fucking villain ever.
- 45:45You know what I mean? He's a moron of the highest order. So he's the last person
- 45:49you would send to do a hit.
- 45:50He sends him to kill him. Shane, whenever he was a young cop,
- 45:54but instead he killed Dalton instead, his father. So, idiot Jake Busey,
- 46:00Wild Bill, is the one who killed the badass Dalton.
- 46:04Yes, that's right. Yes, yes, exactly. Yeah. What a totally dishonorable death
- 46:09for Dalton offscreen, who was Mr. Perfect in the first one.
- 46:13This whole opening sequence is pathetic.
- 46:18It's a DEA drug bust And then a DEA agent Poses as a stripper And does a strip
- 46:25And takes Takes Shane who's a DEA agent Behind the curtain to fuck him During the,
- 46:34DEA bust Which was no doubt a really In reality is actually a really Dangerous
- 46:41thing to do Aside from the Ridiculousness
- 46:45of it it's also so extremely unprofessional thing to do. I know.
- 46:49Hey, hey, we just busted the big DA. We have a bunch of a big drug bust.
- 46:53Let's go fuck and have a lap dance.
- 46:55Yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah. Although it's, they're sort of doing it so that you
- 46:59think that, yeah, it's sort of like, I don't know, it's trying to trick the
- 47:03audience into thinking that he actually, you know, Shane actually is one of
- 47:07the bad guy drug dealers.
- 47:09No, you're supposed to think he is. And she's the DEA. Oh, yeah.
- 47:13And then he takes off his jacket, his big shirt, that says DEA on it.
- 47:17Yeah, that's it. Yeah, just in case, you know.
- 47:21You know. We'll have to like literally spell it out. Oh my god,
- 47:25what a misdirect. I didn't see that coming.
- 47:28Well, I mean, this is up there with, you know, in terms of misdirect,
- 47:31this is like up there with the usual suspects, and stuff, you know.
- 47:36Now, I'm going to give this movie a big pass.
- 47:40And I'm probably going to get So,
- 47:46They, Luther sets up, he's, who we know is the guy setting everyone up the entire time.
- 47:53Yes. Sets up Will Patton, Nate.
- 47:58Yes. And, and while Bill meet. Yeah. And they, you know, they get into a fight.
- 48:04Yeah. But by the way, just as an aside, I would say that this film totally missed
- 48:08the trick by not having someone at bat cross an alligator.
- 48:12Yeah. How many pictures of alligators do we get? and we never get one eaten.
- 48:16I wanted it to go like, you know, X, you know, that Ty Westfield warms the fucking alligator dance.
- 48:22If anybody should have gotten the alligator dance, it should have been fucking... Jake Pushey? Yeah.
- 48:29But, so they're fighting on the dock and there's a couple of fight scenes in this.
- 48:35I will say now, the choreography and the fights in this are pretty fucking good.
- 48:41Yeah, yeah. And I think these are the fights that should have been in Roadhouse
- 48:44because we didn't really get that. We got a couple of fake punches in Roadhouse.
- 48:47In this, we got some pretty bad. If you guys want to see some pretty good fighting,
- 48:53there's some good fighting in here.
- 48:54It's over the top and it's unrealistic, but yes, it's better choreographed.
- 48:58And I would say as well, overall, there are a lot of elements with this film.
- 49:03I mean, it certainly has its flaws, including like a lack of tension and other
- 49:06things and performances off the screen. Story, writing, acting.
- 49:11The story's copy and paste of the original, But I would say that there are quite
- 49:16a lot of elements of this one that are better than the original.
- 49:20You know, but I do think the fight scenes also, there is a threat here.
- 49:27Yeah. They're killing people.
- 49:29Yeah. Where, you know, so, and I guess this movie is terrible.
- 49:35But if you want to fast forward to the fight scenes, they're pretty good.
- 49:39It's very flatly directed.
- 49:41And, you know, the performances, apart from Jake Bruchy, the performances are
- 49:45not very memorable at all.
- 49:47Yeah. And then you got fucking William Ragsdale from Fright Night in this.
- 49:51Who does nothing this guy really took off Will Patton was the smart he probably
- 49:57read most of the rest of the script and goes okay listen can I be in a coma for the rest of the film.
- 50:01No problem sadly that he
- 50:05comes back to fight which is a terrible scene again yeah
- 50:08and there's a bit of slapstick comedy and stuff that doesn't
- 50:11work you know with the older guy who also
- 50:14works in the bar but also just by chance is sharing a fucking
- 50:17hospital room with him you know there's a lot of
- 50:20conveniences here it's you know what
- 50:23i think the biggest problem with this is i know the original intended to
- 50:26be serious but turned out to be real campy silliness
- 50:30this is too serious it goes
- 50:32too serious in terms of its tone if they
- 50:35had have just played tongue and cheek they i
- 50:38think it would have been a lot better you know this actually reminded me of
- 50:41and this is you're gonna laugh because this is another you
- 50:44say it's fucking sling blade no i'm not i'm
- 50:47gonna say the direct the video
- 50:50sequel to the lost boys which came out
- 50:53around the same time it has it has
- 50:56the same feel to it and the same sort of aesthetic but also the fact it's not
- 51:01really related i mean there are some loose connections there to the original
- 51:06in any real way you know the tribe wasn't a call or something yeah yeah yeah yeah come out around
- 51:14the same time you know and it's just it's obviously it's a completely different
- 51:18story the roadhouse and the lost boys but but it just has the same feel and same sort of.
- 51:24You know, it's almost like the same team made both. You know,
- 51:28say like, let's grab an 80s classic and do a sequel.
- 51:34So you have all these little characters and you meet this Deputy Hendricks.
- 51:39Yes. And you know, he's a bad guy, but you know, he's not.
- 51:45You know, this guy's going to turn as a good guy.
- 51:48Yeah. It's not exactly, they don't plan to see, they don't need to, you can just tell.
- 51:52Yes. This movie, it reads like a Dr. Seuss book.
- 51:58Yeah. You can see it all coming. Yeah. You can predict the next line. It's just. Yeah.
- 52:03You know who's very good at it, though? I thought were really good,
- 52:07the twins at the beginning. They stole the show from me.
- 52:11Jesus. Well, they were in there for like a half a second. To be at the poster? Yeah.
- 52:16They pretty much promoted us as softcore porn.
- 52:22And that's an injustice to the actual film itself
- 52:25because it's not you know what i mean yes there's a there's a couple of sex
- 52:29scenes the top of the scenes but you sort of have to have that they're a roadhouse
- 52:31film well you don't that's nothing roadhouse did it at least with roadhouse
- 52:36it was no let me finish it was subtle it was besides the dance sequence It was Kelly Lynch was.
- 52:45Not fully No no no It was about as
- 52:48subtle as a fucking What do you call it as an elephant in a fucking chair No
- 52:51no no no I completely disagree with you There's a difference between That stupid
- 52:57little dance scene Where he makes her just you know Come down and blah blah
- 53:01Or you just mean the sex scene Between Kelly Lynch and Spears,
- 53:06There's girls in the jacuzzi Two of them There's topless.
- 53:10I mean, no, no. There's a difference between, believe it or not,
- 53:13subtlety and just direct-to-video softcore. And I don't care.
- 53:19But no, Roadhouse had, there was professionalism behind the lens. This is not. Yeah.
- 53:27I know you're a little schoolboy perv and you're like eee twins were good I
- 53:32like the twins see yeah see and the bathtub lesbian scene,
- 53:36for some reason yeah so we
- 53:39find out in the flashbacks Sane was trained by his uncle that's where he learned
- 53:44all because yeah we got flashbacks yes yeah but why didn't Dalton train him
- 53:48then how come we don't see Dalton training him no no they explain it away I
- 53:52think originally if Patrick Swayze had come on board it would have been Patrick
- 53:55Swayze you know doing the, you know, as a boy, training him.
- 53:59But they explain it, it's like a one-line fix where it says,
- 54:02my father traveled around a lot, I didn't see much of him. And then whenever
- 54:05he did see him, he was murdered.
- 54:08In place of him. So he was... Oh my god.
- 54:13The fight scene between you have that, the black guy who works for Wild Bill.
- 54:19Yes. And he's causing a ruckus in the bar.
- 54:21That's pretty cool. Yeah. It's another good fight scene.
- 54:25Again, well done. What about Ninja Woman? She's completely unrealistic.
- 54:29Oh, Nadja? Yeah. The knife woman?
- 54:32Yes, yeah, yeah. Completely unrealistic, and she can do somersaults and all sorts, you know?
- 54:37Yeah, we got fucking Elektra on this now. But Sexy Jeans Woman,
- 54:42Bo, she kicks her ass later on, and she's a schoolteacher or something, isn't she?
- 54:46I don't know what the fuck she does, but... Oh, no, it turns out she's ex-army as well. Yeah.
- 54:51She shows up to the bar for like half a second.
- 54:54You want a drink? i don't drink she leaves and
- 54:57then gives him the finger yes what was that all about what was
- 55:00that all about i don't know i mean i mean she
- 55:03all of a sudden did she like fucking split personality or something or you know
- 55:07what i mean yeah she was really nice whenever he was fixing her car you know
- 55:11when he was changing the tire and then she was really nice to him like throughout
- 55:15the entirety of the film well apart from this one really weird scene where she
- 55:18turns nasty on him Like, gives him the finger? Why?
- 55:22There's no explanation for this. I know. I don't. That's their way of teasing. Yeah.
- 55:28But it doesn't come across as flirting. It's the same thing.
- 55:32It's the exact same thing when Jimmy says.
- 55:36I used to fuck guys like you. Yeah, it doesn't make sense. In this town,
- 55:42they give you the finger. Yeah.
- 55:47They also throw in some references to the original with the whole,
- 55:51I thought you'd be bigger. You know, when they say that about Dalton.
- 55:54Yeah, and then he also does three rules. never underestimate
- 55:58someone take it outside be nice
- 56:01until it's not time to be nice yeah even though
- 56:04like with the whole lamb take it outside rule in the
- 56:08first and the second pretty much all the
- 56:10fights happen at the bar so i know i know it's
- 56:13not their fault you know because they're basically it's the.
- 56:16Bad guys faults for starting in the bars but at
- 56:19the same time the rules broken like every time so
- 56:24they wild bill is working for cross victor
- 56:27cross yeah they don't want the bar they want the land yeah
- 56:31well again it's copy and paste from the original where it's a
- 56:34bunch of villains basically i'm running a town
- 56:37including in this one the police the sheriff and all and
- 56:40it's yeah it's the same plot as the original i've
- 56:44just done a stylish and with as much grace you see
- 56:47the fucking scene where they come in to make him an offer like 400k
- 56:51whatever it was and i'm saying here
- 56:53no problem but yeah and then the bound the one the
- 56:56bounce just comes in acting like a robot what the
- 57:00fuck are you doing and the guy goes are you retarded sorry that's
- 57:03what he says in the movie and i'm like yeah is he yeah i
- 57:06know i didn't because i didn't know you know obviously i've seen this character
- 57:10before i took me a while to is that the way it gets on is there something wrong
- 57:14with them and the stuff is just weird and bizarre he does like um so yeah it's
- 57:19robotic it's like mime robotic man he sounds and it's just it's fucking totally out of place.
- 57:26But thankfully he survives you know at the end and you
- 57:28see him doing it at the very end you know in the sort of montage
- 57:32at the end where it's a big happy ending and they're all in the bar and they're
- 57:35singing and dancing and there's that wee midget guy in the band and stuff and
- 57:39and he then it flashes to him even though he'd been badly injured in an earlier
- 57:44scene you know whatever they came to the bar to get seen you see him and he's
- 57:49doing the robotics dancing again so there you
- 57:51go y'all remember yeah the fucking
- 57:54when he's on the phone and she's outside yeah
- 57:58and he thinks she's a burglar but he thinks she's she's talking to her on the
- 58:00phone and she's the one outside it's so stupid and there's a lot this is so
- 58:04bad he goes i finally get to my bedroom i don't even know your name yeah and
- 58:09she goes that sounds like a country song and she starts singing it yeah yeah yeah i I know, I know.
- 58:15She wouldn't be the greatest actor in the world, but she drives a cool riverboat
- 58:22thing like Rambo, so there you go.
- 58:24And she's a school teacher. And she's the cousin. An ex-army.
- 58:27She's the cousin of Wild Bill.
- 58:29Yes. And she sets him up, though, doesn't she? Well, to be fair,
- 58:34who? She sets Shane up? Yeah.
- 58:36No, she saves Shane. No, she was told to lure him out while they go destroy the barn.
- 58:43No, no, aye, but she shags him instead To sort of save him She,
- 58:48she Oh, okay Yeah, yeah, to be fair, you know I don't know about that.
- 58:55You know So, while he's getting fucked,
- 58:59He's supposed to be meeting these poor guys At the bar, because he was going
- 59:02to help them clean up He decides he's got to get his dick Dick wet,
- 59:06and These poor bastards,
- 59:08the robot man And Fright Night, are getting their ass kicked Yeah,
- 59:11yeah, exactly Robot Man and Fright Night Guy.
- 59:15Well, Fright Night Guy gets killed. He gets murdered. Does he die?
- 59:18Yes, yes. I thought he was just unconscious.
- 59:21No, no, no. That's Robot Guy. He's just unconscious.
- 59:24Oh, so Fright Night is dead. Fright Night dies, but Robot Guy survives because
- 59:30you see him at the very end doing robotic skins.
- 59:35Yeah, he's back. Yeah, yeah. Robot Guy.
- 59:38But still sad about Fright Night Guy, you know?
- 59:41The whole the whole fucking hospital
- 59:45scene was terrible yeah it's a bit badly executed will
- 59:49patent buddy you should have got out of this film you deserve
- 59:52better thank god to go to michael myers yeah uh
- 59:55yeah it's badly executed and it's just a bit it's dragged out a bit too much
- 1:00:01as well oh it's way long and where is everybody in the hospital and there's
- 1:00:05actually a scene where Busey is going into this entourage and Nadja whips out
- 1:00:11a knife to one of the secretaries or nurses.
- 1:00:14And he goes, whoa, whoa, take it easy. Be respectful.
- 1:00:17But they're all carrying like fucking M16s and fucking shot off shotguns. Yeah.
- 1:00:23I have to admit, I really like Jake Pucci in this.
- 1:00:28He's actually playing it right. He's playing it, fuck it, this movie sucks, I'm going to ham it up.
- 1:00:33Yeah, he's basically, and he's doing a really good impression of his dad as well.
- 1:00:37You know what I mean? Obviously, he physically looks like his dad,
- 1:00:40and it's just like, he's totally like, you know, yeah, going overboard.
- 1:00:44And, you know, he's out of all of the, I'm sorry to say, but all of the sort
- 1:00:49of actors in this are pretty bland, whereas he is he's not he's definitely not,
- 1:00:57so in the hospital hang on for his life he then gets stabbed in the back,
- 1:01:04he's busted in the whole ER or whatever and.
- 1:01:10All this chaos is happening right yes and the house is being shot what.
- 1:01:17What's the rest of the there's like one other piece it's a massive hospital
- 1:01:21Where's the doctors for it's the nurses There's no lights And nothing else So,
- 1:01:29They go They're shooting up her house Bo's house or I can't remember if they're
- 1:01:35shooting up Or they're shooting up the.
- 1:01:38What do you call it The fucking the bar And they go out and decide I'm gonna
- 1:01:44rape her now They're gonna rape where the fuck are you Taking this,
- 1:01:48I'm gonna rape her and we're gonna kill It just comes
- 1:01:51out of the blue And your mind just
- 1:01:54goes Take your fucking pants off What is
- 1:01:58this going And that whole Victor Cross fight
- 1:02:01scene Was so boring Yeah He's your main bad guy And you don't see anything really
- 1:02:09happen to him He's useless He's not even threatening Not properly Well the acting
- 1:02:14is pretty threatening I mean But yeah Yeah,
- 1:02:19and it's like the tone of it throughout is pretty much generally just a bit
- 1:02:25of an action sort of flick tone but then this potential rape scene and all just gets thrown in.
- 1:02:29That's quite, it's like, whoa, what am I watching here? Last House on the Left?
- 1:02:33I know, it's like, what the fuck?
- 1:02:35I do like Wild Bill's death. It's a good fight scene. I do think,
- 1:02:39I think the fight's pretty decent.
- 1:02:41Yes. And he kicks him out the window and he falls on top of the pelican,
- 1:02:44the black pelican's name of the bar.
- 1:02:46But again, they totally missed the trick by not having him being at by alligators.
- 1:02:51Or somebody. Even Victor. Give Victor by the Pelican and give Wild Bill the gators.
- 1:02:58Yeah, yeah. Those deaths should have been decent.
- 1:03:01Or even that guy on the bar, you know, who was basically working for...
- 1:03:04Yeah, yeah, Luther. Luther or somebody like that, you know.
- 1:03:07Fuck it. I would just fuck the whole cast in at the end.
- 1:03:11Well, at the end, the bar is open. Shane is there with Uncle Turner at his side.
- 1:03:16Yes. Everybody survived apart from Fright Night guy, you know.
- 1:03:20So Fright Night Guy did die. Yes, as far as I'm aware.
- 1:03:24I just saw him not unconscious. I wasn't sure if he was dead or not. No, no.
- 1:03:29I'm near certain he definitely dies, but then, what do you call it?
- 1:03:33Everybody lives happily ever after apart from him.
- 1:03:38Yeah, fuck Fright Night Guy, but at least we got Robotics Guy back to be fair. What an ass clown.
- 1:03:47I'm fucking with you. I'd have thrown him into the alligators for doing that stupid dance alone.
- 1:03:52Fucking idiot. Yeah, this movie's terrible. This is terrible.
- 1:03:56This is nothing like the original.
- 1:04:00The original one had charm, and it had Patrick Swayze and Sam Elliott and Ben Gazzara.
- 1:04:06You had Kelly Lynch. You had good music. You had- All-intentional, comfy charm.
- 1:04:14Yeah, you had something there, and just rewatch abilities.
- 1:04:17That's a big one. Even though this does have fight scenes That I really do enjoy,
- 1:04:22That's only what Three minutes of the entire film The rest is just complete shit,
- 1:04:29This is shit You know what I mean He sort of steals the show But yeah he's not
- 1:04:35up against He hasn't much rivalry for that Exactly there's not much to steal
- 1:04:39There's nothing worth stealing My main issue.
- 1:04:43Is the total lack of tension and it's very flat in terms of the way it's directed.
- 1:04:50The funny thing is, you're kind of right what you said in the beginning.
- 1:04:54Yeah. If you took some of the elements of this one and put them in the Roadhouse...
- 1:05:00The original? Yeah. Like the better fight, the better choreography fighting.
- 1:05:04Yes. You could have had, actually the ending should have taken place in the bar. Yeah. Like it did.
- 1:05:11Because that's the main, you know. Yes. The main hub there. The hub.
- 1:05:15And it actually would have played better, I think.
- 1:05:18I think if you took, yeah, it's almost like when you said that Roadhouse was
- 1:05:23like four hours long originally, all they did was, no, I'm serious.
- 1:05:26They probably took out the elements that were in that one, the cut stuff.
- 1:05:30We put it in this. Yeah. Because they do work if you blend it.
- 1:05:34Well, this is the same story as the original. You know, we have a few tweaks.
- 1:05:40But what this one lacks that the other one unintentionally has is the Campy 80's cheesy charm.
- 1:05:47Yeah, and you don't have competency here. You don't have competency director.
- 1:05:51You don't have competency screenwriters. You don't have, you just don't have it.
- 1:05:56You know, you have some nice choreography in there, but that's it.
- 1:05:59Yeah. There's nothing here.
- 1:06:00Like I say, it's the same story as the original, but just copied and pasted.
- 1:06:06But instead of Dalton, it's Dalton's son.
- 1:06:08All right, guys. You're welcome.
