- 0:04Speaker 1: NHL Unscripted is a production of the NHL and iHeart podcasts.
- 0:20Speaker 2: We are back here on NHL Unscripted. This would be
- 0:23Speaker 2: great episode all right, Episode thirteen.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Vika Devers, thank you.
- 0:25Speaker 2: It was always to NHL on I Heard podcast. JD's
- 0:27Speaker 2: already a little sour. He's in Montreal right now recording
- 0:29Speaker 2: this late at night, but he's always loyal to the
- 0:31Speaker 2: cause first and foremost to all those who are watching
- 0:33Speaker 2: Amazon Pride mon Night Hockey, as was Jason Demurz. I
- 0:37Speaker 2: promised that biz Nasty was going to join us here
- 0:38Speaker 2: in the pocket. He's going on coast to coast with
- 0:40Speaker 2: any Petrillo on Thursday, but biz Nasty inter reschedule.
- 0:43Speaker 1: He will come back with us another time. We have
- 0:45Speaker 1: a great episode.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Alice Goolagoski, close friend of Jason Demurz, played a thousand
- 0:48Speaker 2: games NHL, has great stories not only but his own career,
- 0:51Speaker 2: but also Marc Andre Fleury and Phil Kessel. Devin Dubnick
- 0:54Speaker 2: an old buddy of ours, a teammate of jd's't the
- 0:56Speaker 2: Spangler Cup for Canada, but also teammate of ours at
- 0:58Speaker 2: NHL Network. He talks about I don't know if I
- 1:01Speaker 2: want to tease it. It may not make the cut corn
- 1:02Speaker 2: to tell, but he's going to talk about goaltending. I
- 1:04Speaker 2: can tell you the NHL today, and it's gonna be
- 1:06Speaker 2: fascining to listen to. Before we get to that, though,
- 1:08Speaker 2: I get a surprise for you. I travel so much
- 1:11Speaker 2: now with Amazon. People are surprised with this because how
- 1:13Speaker 2: much I love movies. But I said, no, I don't
- 1:14Speaker 2: like to watch movies on planes. I'm one of those guys.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I'd like to watch it at home or watch it
- 1:17Speaker 2: in theater. I don't want to be aout playing the
- 1:18Speaker 2: small screen demers. Just watched six movies in three cross
- 1:21Speaker 2: country flights. I don't want jour number two there.
- 1:23Speaker 1: What I do is this. I read.
- 1:25Speaker 2: I tracked if I read, and I said to myself,
- 1:27Speaker 2: because you don't pay attention to others.
- 1:28Speaker 1: You're so vain and self absorbed. We don't care.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Tal Pinchewski casually mentally written a book. So I went
- 1:33Speaker 2: on Amazon and I bought Breakaway from Behind the Iron
- 1:37Speaker 2: Curtain to the NHL, The Untold Story of Hockey's Great Escapes.
- 1:41Speaker 2: And I bought Tal's book and I just finished it.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I made a power read to Winnipeg. And back from Winnipeg.
- 1:47Speaker 2: How many ever seen it? Tean trying to Winnipeg. I mean,
- 1:49Speaker 2: this is a book with just two or in sixty
- 1:50Speaker 2: four pages.
- 1:51Speaker 3: You read though in two flights.
- 1:53Speaker 1: I mean, I fly you.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Are you like a speed reader? Are you like the.
- 1:59Speaker 1: If I'm fixing on something, I'm a little bit obsessive,
- 2:01Speaker 1: much like my movie Watch.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to fish on. I'm finishing taws book.
- 2:03Speaker 2: I'll take four hours, Like no, I'll get the hotel.
- 2:05Speaker 2: I gotta fish this book before I go to bed,
- 2:06Speaker 2: Like why did you step till to me?
- 2:07Speaker 4: Am?
- 2:08Speaker 2: I had to finish tal Pinchewski's book. I want to
- 2:10Speaker 2: know more about Peter Klima.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Now I want to read this part too, specifically because
- 2:13Speaker 1: it's about I wish you were before you get into that.
- 2:16Speaker 5: I wish you'd be more obsessive about promoting this podcast.
- 2:22Speaker 2: We'll get to that in a second. Here's one of
- 2:23Speaker 2: my favorite parts. And then for those certain and you
- 2:25Speaker 2: should all read the book?
- 2:26Speaker 6: Is it?
- 2:26Speaker 1: Talk about it? And I don't. I can't believe how
- 2:27Speaker 1: much research you did. This is insane. The amount of
- 2:29Speaker 1: people you talk to like it. It reads like a thriller,
- 2:32Speaker 1: especially the Stassins, Peter claim out like horrifying, and Jed
- 2:35Speaker 1: you can speakcause you played in Russia. You know what
- 2:36Speaker 1: it's like.
- 2:37Speaker 2: Yeah, times with Fatisa trying to leave, Victor tiking off
- 2:39Speaker 2: and all this stuff, and I casually about buttal talk
- 2:42Speaker 2: to all these people. Love the quotes from my buddy
- 2:44Speaker 2: Ken Danico, but I need to focus on this specifically
- 2:46Speaker 2: because this will appreciate both of you guys being Montreal guys.
- 2:49Speaker 1: This is page one thirty four. Given the agents following
- 2:52Speaker 1: the Czechoslovakian national team, so Boda would have to find
- 2:55Speaker 1: the right time to spare it the twenty one year
- 2:56Speaker 1: old Volac.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Away David Vola course remember him from the Rangers. He
- 2:58Speaker 2: would also to find a dark, central location where this
- 3:01Speaker 2: clandestine meeting wouldn't allouse too much suspicion. The best place
- 3:04Speaker 2: of what I could find was a popular downtown strip
- 3:07Speaker 2: club named Shaye Pyrie. It was a popular place, especially
- 3:10Speaker 2: in the eighties. What would have elapse and still now wow,
- 3:14Speaker 2: Well before.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I comment on shape Pray which you know, me filming
- 3:18Speaker 5: this pod so so late, I can't even go there
- 3:22Speaker 5: and get their famous you know ten pm steak. But again,
- 3:27Speaker 5: tall great research and once again, if the research was
- 3:30Speaker 5: this thorough for this podcast, we would be top in
- 3:33Speaker 5: the country right now. So fantastic work by both of you.
- 3:37Speaker 3: I love it all Right.
- 3:39Speaker 2: We just got back from the road, which is a
- 3:40Speaker 2: Winnipeg Jets game. I want to ask you about the Sharks.
- 3:42Speaker 2: If we don't talk enough about the Sharks and you
- 3:44Speaker 2: cover the game, you work for the team, your former Shark.
- 3:46Speaker 2: I gotta tell you, buddy, watching that team and I'm
- 3:48Speaker 2: expecting everyone's cat calling.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And going, oh my god, here we go. Sharks versus Jets.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Shark's fewest points in the NHL, the Jets at the
- 3:54Speaker 2: second most of the time, your Sharks played a sound,
- 3:57Speaker 2: defensive game.
- 3:58Speaker 1: Fan of check was great. Celebrating is such a joy
- 4:00Speaker 1: to watch out there one nothing lead, unfortunately Josh Morrison
- 4:03Speaker 1: and fortunate for the Sharks. Josh Worts scores twenty six
- 4:05Speaker 1: seconds left, jetson winning it overtime. But good fight from
- 4:09Speaker 1: your Sharks. I get we are talking abou all NHL teams,
- 4:12Speaker 1: Drew on this podcast. I like seeing a team fighting
- 4:14Speaker 1: even though they have nothing left to fight for.
- 4:16Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I hope it continues past the trade deadline.
- 4:20Speaker 5: You know you have a lot of guys that are
- 4:21Speaker 5: probably you know, sought after by a lot of teams
- 4:25Speaker 5: in the league that are looking at some depth pieces.
- 4:27Speaker 5: So you know you're hoping that continues post trade deadline,
- 4:30Speaker 5: and guys you know that have been very good soldiers.
- 4:33Speaker 5: And the one thing I'll say about this team is
- 4:35Speaker 5: notice complain. They haven't said boo. They've worked their ass
- 4:38Speaker 5: off a night in and night out, and they haven't
- 4:41Speaker 5: got the results they've wanted to get and have hoped for.
- 4:44Speaker 5: But there's a lot to like, and they're trying to
- 4:47Speaker 5: build a culture here of at least work ethic and
- 4:51Speaker 5: knowing that the wins will come. But man, it's tough
- 4:53Speaker 5: when you start finding ways to lose versus finding ways
- 4:56Speaker 5: to win. It's such a fine line in the NHL.
- 4:59Speaker 5: And it's tough because I've been on those teams where
- 5:02Speaker 5: you just can't find a way.
- 5:03Speaker 3: You're like, what the hell, what's going on?
- 5:05Speaker 5: We're doing everything right, and the hockey gods reward us
- 5:08Speaker 5: plays plays almighty reward us, and he does not.
- 5:10Speaker 3: He casts you asunder night in and night out.
- 5:14Speaker 5: So I feel for them, and I've been there, done that,
- 5:19Speaker 5: and I've also been on the teams where you you
- 5:21Speaker 5: literally could go not piss a drop and win a
- 5:23Speaker 5: game because you're just the confidence is so high and
- 5:26Speaker 5: you guys all believe you're going to win. So it's
- 5:29Speaker 5: really a mindset shift and hopefully these guys can find it.
- 5:31Speaker 5: But you know, they're exciting to watch. They work hard.
- 5:33Speaker 5: I know you watch that game. I watched it. They
- 5:36Speaker 5: play hard, they work hard. They led for what fifty
- 5:39Speaker 5: six minutes of that game? Fifty seven minutes something like that,
- 5:42Speaker 5: And it's just closing out games. It's like the last
- 5:45Speaker 5: thing they got to learn is closing out games.
- 5:47Speaker 3: And I don't know how.
- 5:48Speaker 5: Many games this season where they've been up in the
- 5:50Speaker 5: third period and have kind of blown it and you know,
- 5:54Speaker 5: chalk it up to the lucky unlucky bounces and they
- 5:56Speaker 5: just can't find a way. But yeah, there's there's there's
- 5:59Speaker 5: a lot to like. There's a lot of bright spots
- 6:01Speaker 5: in this team, and I think those young guys are
- 6:02Speaker 5: really starting to pick it out of the mclin's Brine's
- 6:04Speaker 5: a stud.
- 6:05Speaker 2: We'll get to your comedy about Adam Fox, which went viral,
- 6:07Speaker 2: particularly here in the New York City area, But one
- 6:10Speaker 2: thought here on the Jets. I want to get your
- 6:11Speaker 2: opinion on they won ten in a row. They're making
- 6:13Speaker 2: a run for the President's Trophy. We all, no one
- 6:15Speaker 2: will remember this team unless they actually go deep in
- 6:17Speaker 2: the playoffs and hell a Buck exercises his playoff demons.
- 6:19Speaker 1: I want to ask you this. Our buddy, Thomas Sicky
- 6:21Speaker 1: said during the game, and I'm not a fan of
- 6:23Speaker 1: this guy. Has to sit down with him. Josh Morris.
- 6:24Speaker 1: He's a great dude. Do you think Morris he's a
- 6:26Speaker 1: top ten defense from right now in hockey?
- 6:32Speaker 5: Ooh, that's tough. I honestly, man, that's a tough one.
- 6:37Speaker 5: It's hard to say. I think he's right on the
- 6:39Speaker 5: cusp of it. If not the number ten spot, I
- 6:42Speaker 5: think there's a lot of guys at the number ten spot.
- 6:44Speaker 5: Me being as politically correct as possible.
- 6:46Speaker 3: I love the kid.
- 6:47Speaker 5: I played with him at World Championships, nice and funny
- 6:51Speaker 5: enough that tournament. I was playing more minutes than him,
- 6:52Speaker 5: and now I'm like, so he's getting so much better
- 6:55Speaker 5: than me. We would have won that term, even though
- 6:57Speaker 5: we lost and shootout if he was playing more minutes.
- 7:01Speaker 5: But he's he's a great team and he looks so effort,
- 7:04Speaker 5: listen for not being a big guy, battles so hard,
- 7:07Speaker 5: He's got a bomb of a shot, and plays heavy
- 7:10Speaker 5: minutes defensively and offensively. So I think he's worth consideration
- 7:14Speaker 5: the top ten. I don't think he gets enough love
- 7:17Speaker 5: from from people in the NHL, and if you ask
- 7:19Speaker 5: anybody on that team, I know he's a dog. But again,
- 7:22Speaker 5: you said it, unless they do something in the playoffs.
- 7:24Speaker 5: I think the more this gets close to the playoffs,
- 7:26Speaker 5: the more the pressure is gonna mount. If they don't
- 7:28Speaker 5: get out of the first round, let alone make it
- 7:30Speaker 5: to the conference finals, it's a waste of a season
- 7:33Speaker 5: for this team.
- 7:33Speaker 3: So that's my take.
- 7:35Speaker 5: Take it, leave it, digest it, regurgitate it, whatever you want.
- 7:39Speaker 5: If that goes viral, so be it. But I'm saying
- 7:43Speaker 5: right now, they do not make the conference finals, it's
- 7:45Speaker 5: a waste of a season for the Winnipeg Jets. And
- 7:47Speaker 5: I love everything about that team right now, love everything.
- 7:50Speaker 1: No, I love that pick. Someone said to me, they
- 7:52Speaker 1: gotta win around a go win a round. They might
- 7:54Speaker 1: have a conce points you can get. I got.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I need Final four and I need to lose that
- 7:58Speaker 2: Conference finals in a hard fought six or seven game series.
- 8:01Speaker 1: They you gotta get deep and look good going deep.
- 8:05Speaker 5: They get right now they have their gold differentials plus
- 8:08Speaker 5: plus seventy plus seventy. They've won ten straight in the
- 8:13Speaker 5: dog days of the season at NET.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Give me.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Gave Lord of Kingston guy. I love Lord Him. It's
- 8:18Speaker 1: gonna deal both Kingston guys.
- 8:20Speaker 2: All right, speaking of going viral, what are you doing
- 8:21Speaker 2: pissing off people about Adam Fox?
- 8:24Speaker 3: Uh?
- 8:24Speaker 5: Yeah, one of my all time backfires. There when you're
- 8:28Speaker 5: just trying to kind of give a concise answer as
- 8:31Speaker 5: an analyst and a commentator, you were asked certain questions
- 8:34Speaker 5: and you give certain responses, and much of the chagrin
- 8:38Speaker 5: of the New York Rangers fan base. I was shit
- 8:41Speaker 5: upon by everybody and they start pulling up because I
- 8:44Speaker 5: said Adam Fox and I wasn't even saying my opinion,
- 8:48Speaker 5: but I you know, I did probably add some stuff
- 8:50Speaker 5: to it. And I feel bad nocuse Adam Fox is
- 8:52Speaker 5: hurt on the IR but all the more reason that
- 8:56Speaker 5: they need to go get more help because they're asking
- 8:58Speaker 5: him to do way too much. And I was prefacing
- 9:00Speaker 5: the whole and to give a context and what I said,
- 9:03Speaker 5: I said, guys, in the league that I've heard have
- 9:06Speaker 5: said that Adam Fox come playoff time or in the
- 9:08Speaker 5: playoffs is they'd rather play against him than other defensemen
- 9:12Speaker 5: in the NHL, because when you're gonna go into the corner,
- 9:15Speaker 5: you know you're not gonna get hit.
- 9:17Speaker 3: He's not.
- 9:17Speaker 5: His escapability is not as good as a Quinn Hugh
- 9:21Speaker 5: is a Kale mccarr and he plays as heavy minutes
- 9:23Speaker 5: as those guys. So if I'm a guy that's physical,
- 9:26Speaker 5: I'm looking at him being like licking my lips, being
- 9:28Speaker 5: like I can put in his corner and try to
- 9:30Speaker 5: run him every time. Now, his hockey at Q is
- 9:33Speaker 5: through the roof. He's a Noris Trophy winner. He's a
- 9:37Speaker 5: guy that's been in the Eastern Conference Finals twice. You know,
- 9:41Speaker 5: largely not just because of him. He was a big
- 9:44Speaker 5: part of it. Obviously, Ego Shusterkin has been incredible for
- 9:47Speaker 5: that team. But it was more saying to the New
- 9:50Speaker 5: York Rangers, and I've been on the New York Rangers
- 9:54Speaker 5: ownership and management group all season saying they need to
- 9:56Speaker 5: go get somebody to help them. They thought Candre Miller
- 9:58Speaker 5: was gonna be that guy. Obviously, we don't think Candre
- 10:02Speaker 5: will become that defenseman other than being a top four.
- 10:04Speaker 5: You'll be a top four defenseman, Candre, but he's not
- 10:07Speaker 5: going to be your top two. They're asking Ryan Lindgren
- 10:10Speaker 5: to punch way above his weight class, and I just
- 10:12Speaker 5: don't think right now, where the NHL is where they
- 10:15Speaker 5: need to go and win a Stanley Cup, that is
- 10:17Speaker 5: the right pairing Ryan Lindgren and Adam Fox. Now, they've
- 10:20Speaker 5: tested and experimented with a few other guys, but they
- 10:24Speaker 5: need to get him a legitimate, bona fide defenseman to
- 10:27Speaker 5: play with him. Cale mccar's Davontave's Quinn Hughes, who's an
- 10:32Speaker 5: enigma and can really play with anybody. Had Luke Schen
- 10:34Speaker 5: early in his career, does really well with Philipperonic. But
- 10:39Speaker 5: you look at the top guys, they typically have somebody
- 10:41Speaker 5: that can help them and minimize the load a little
- 10:46Speaker 5: bit and minimize the stress on their game and on
- 10:48Speaker 5: their body, and I just think they need to get
- 10:50Speaker 5: a guy that's gonna really help Adam Fox physically stay
- 10:54Speaker 5: healthy and make sure they don't wear him out, because
- 10:57Speaker 5: the last thing you want is your franchise defenseman to
- 11:01Speaker 5: constantly be injured and be out and not be effective
- 11:04Speaker 5: what he's brought in to do, which is offense. So
- 11:07Speaker 5: everybody in the sorry, let me finish Parkley up. Every
- 11:10Speaker 5: in the Rangers fan base, you can suck it. I
- 11:14Speaker 5: don't apologize for what I said. I still have Adam
- 11:18Speaker 5: Fox and I think he's great, but they need to
- 11:21Speaker 5: get him help.
- 11:21Speaker 3: So Rangers fans suck it.
- 11:23Speaker 2: And unfortunately now Adam Fox injured. So hopefully he's back sooner,
- 11:27Speaker 2: but later it's not something serious again, Well shall find out.
- 11:29Speaker 2: All right, a few topics we're gonna hit on here,
- 11:31Speaker 2: and then we're gonna get to Alex Glogowski first and foremost,
- 11:34Speaker 2: Alex Ovechkin, the great chase.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Two forty to go on a third period, hena puck
- 11:38Speaker 1: that comes to all Bedstead, he starts. Hete did it,
- 11:43Speaker 1: Hete did it. It's a hat trick for all that.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Skander thirty second career hat trick against the Oilers, added
- 11:50Speaker 2: a goal Tuesday against Calgary. As of this moment, we're
- 11:53Speaker 2: taping this Wednesday night, eight hundred and eighty three career goals.
- 11:55Speaker 2: He has twelve goals shy of passing Wayne Gretzky's all
- 11:58Speaker 2: time goals record the Capitals have twenty four games left
- 12:00Speaker 2: in the season, tongue firmly in cheek. I asked you
- 12:03Speaker 2: this a few weeks ago, and you said, yeah, he'll
- 12:04Speaker 2: break the record like October twelfth, Like we'll have to
- 12:06Speaker 2: wait all off season.
- 12:08Speaker 1: Now it appears he's going to do it this year.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I believe the latest productions are like April third, he's
- 12:13Speaker 2: about to have a fifty goal season.
- 12:15Speaker 1: At the age of thirty nine.
- 12:16Speaker 5: Jay Wild, Yeah, I'm done saying anything against contrary to
- 12:21Speaker 5: what I think he's gonna do, because I've been wrong
- 12:24Speaker 5: seventeen different times. Last year, I said he wouldn't get thirty.
- 12:28Speaker 5: He got thirty. I owed Mike Rup a bottle camus.
- 12:32Speaker 5: This year again, I said, no, I won't get thirty
- 12:33Speaker 5: this year, another bottle Camus out the window with Mike
- 12:37Speaker 5: Croup doubled down, And now I said he's gonna break
- 12:41Speaker 5: it October twelfth. It's probably gonna do it April twelfth
- 12:44Speaker 5: or whatever, the April the last game of the season
- 12:47Speaker 5: or before that. So I'm just eating crow. As they
- 12:50Speaker 5: say constantly, he is shoving it up my tailpipe.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Oh, I gave a pause.
- 13:01Speaker 5: So he's shoving Come on, let's keep that. But he's
- 13:05Speaker 5: just given He's given it to me. He's probably an
- 13:07Speaker 5: avid listener of this show. And here's all of my comments.
- 13:10Speaker 1: I'm so you think i'm.
- 13:13Speaker 3: Script who knows?
- 13:14Speaker 7: Man?
- 13:14Speaker 3: Who knows.
- 13:15Speaker 5: We got a lot of listeners. Could be one of them,
- 13:17Speaker 5: could have a loyal It's not how many you have,
- 13:19Speaker 5: it's who you have. And Alexander Vetchkin could be one.
- 13:22Speaker 5: But yeah, he's It's crazy what he's doing at his age,
- 13:26Speaker 5: scoring in different ways. I know people are like empty netters.
- 13:28Speaker 1: I'm like, man, yeah, people craping about that, but he's not.
- 13:32Speaker 5: You've got to score in an empty net. And he's
- 13:34Speaker 5: not a liability when he's out there six on five.
- 13:37Speaker 5: Like most teams, you're putting out your most defensive players
- 13:40Speaker 5: on a six on five if you're, you know, trying
- 13:43Speaker 5: to not give up a goal. They're putting him out there, Yeah,
- 13:46Speaker 5: to help him get the record, but they wouldn't do
- 13:48Speaker 5: it if they didn't trust him defensively. And he's showing
- 13:51Speaker 5: out and he's getting goals and he's it seems like
- 13:54Speaker 5: this team has a lot to play for this year
- 13:57Speaker 5: and they're rallying behind this and and I mean what
- 14:01Speaker 5: a way to end his career to win do this
- 14:03Speaker 5: record this year? And then basically like we went from
- 14:07Speaker 5: him is he going to break the record to what's
- 14:09Speaker 5: the new record going to be said at?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Like what's the number? Like what's your number?
- 14:12Speaker 4: For you?
- 14:13Speaker 2: That's a great topic because here's the he's going to
- 14:15Speaker 2: blast through nine hundred goals. But I wouldn't bet against
- 14:17Speaker 2: a thousand. I don't believe he will, but I wouldn't
- 14:19Speaker 2: bet against it.
- 14:21Speaker 3: You say a thousand?
- 14:22Speaker 1: Are you to me? That's insane?
- 14:23Speaker 6: Right?
- 14:23Speaker 1: I'm not saying he's going I'm just saying.
- 14:24Speaker 3: That's another one hundred and thirty.
- 14:28Speaker 1: One hundred or twenty one hundred and seventeen goals?
- 14:30Speaker 5: One hundred and seventeen goals? No, I think I think
- 14:33Speaker 5: it's not crazy to think he can break like nine
- 14:36Speaker 5: thirty nine point fifty. I think he could do that
- 14:39Speaker 5: if he pends how much gas he wants to he's
- 14:42Speaker 5: got left in the tank, and how much long he
- 14:43Speaker 5: wants to play. But I mean that's one to clip
- 14:46Speaker 5: and say, what how many goals do we think Alexandrovitchkin
- 14:50Speaker 5: is going to end up his career? What's the record
- 14:52Speaker 5: going to be at? Because we got to stop saying
- 14:53Speaker 5: is he going to break the record. It's now a
- 14:56Speaker 5: question of when. But now what is the next record for? Like,
- 15:00Speaker 5: what's the next record going to end at? Where's Alexandrovitchin
- 15:02Speaker 5: going to end his goal scored oring? What would you
- 15:05Speaker 5: call it his goal scoring record?
- 15:07Speaker 1: Is this all time goals record? You'll records?
- 15:10Speaker 3: Where would it end? Clip it?
- 15:11Speaker 2: Alexandrovchkin go, I love the fact, audibly calling for the clipping.
- 15:16Speaker 3: We gotta do that.
- 15:17Speaker 2: We got to do that now, Mark seventh. Trade deadline
- 15:21Speaker 2: is fast approaching. This is fasting stray right now with Ransom,
- 15:24Speaker 2: he's yet to sign extension with Carolina.
- 15:27Speaker 1: The Avalanche trade him. Carolina thinks, now we got our superstar.
- 15:30Speaker 2: Now we got our got we gave up Marty Bechris.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Now we got our guy to take us over the top.
- 15:33Speaker 2: And all of a sudden, now reportedly they offer him
- 15:36Speaker 2: one hundred million clams and he's like, eh, do you want?
- 15:43Speaker 1: I want?
- 15:44Speaker 3: You know?
- 15:45Speaker 5: Elliott Elliott Friedman reported that, So if he says it,
- 15:48Speaker 5: it's all but all, but take it as religion and
- 15:52Speaker 5: take it as gospel because he's usually right on the money.
- 15:55Speaker 5: So if Carolina can't. I would give him a deadline
- 15:58Speaker 5: and be like, we got to move him. But you
- 16:00Speaker 5: know they're not really operating from a from a position
- 16:02Speaker 5: of power. And if you look at Carolina, if Ranton
- 16:05Speaker 5: doesn't sign and doesn't and doesn't, they don't trade him,
- 16:08Speaker 5: and they lose him in free agency, and they lose
- 16:10Speaker 5: Jake Gnsel, Marty Nachius and Miko Rotten and all within
- 16:15Speaker 5: a year and a half two years. That has to
- 16:18Speaker 5: go down as some of the worst GMing ownershipping whatever
- 16:22Speaker 5: you want to call it.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Uh, But how do you avoid this? Do you have
- 16:25Speaker 1: a conversation with Ransom's agent before his temperary?
- 16:28Speaker 2: How do you How do you know that a guys
- 16:29Speaker 2: should agree to extension before you trade for him?
- 16:31Speaker 1: How could you do it?
- 16:32Speaker 3: Well?
- 16:32Speaker 5: You lock him in a room, you're time to a chair,
- 16:34Speaker 5: and then you say you're not leaving until you give
- 16:36Speaker 5: us an answer. There's not much more Like. If I'm Carolina,
- 16:39Speaker 5: I'm freaking out right now, I'm freaking out. If I'm
- 16:41Speaker 5: a Carolina Hurricanes fan, let alone Carolina ownership and management.
- 16:45Speaker 3: Like I'm freaking out, I'm I'm not sleeping.
- 16:48Speaker 5: If I'm Tulsky, I'm calling him like I'm an ex
- 16:51Speaker 5: I'm a crazy ex girlfriend trying to get get back
- 16:54Speaker 5: with my boyfriend. I am calling him, texting him five
- 16:58Speaker 5: hundred times a day. I'm like me when I'm texting
- 17:00Speaker 5: you nonstly to promote the pod, and then all you
- 17:04Speaker 5: do is send me a reaction of a thumbs up
- 17:06Speaker 5: that actually give me any love. Anyway, we'll talk about that.
- 17:09Speaker 5: That's that's my AMI wrong segment. We're gonna tease that
- 17:12Speaker 5: am I wrong segment. But if he's dragging his feet
- 17:16Speaker 5: for this, I mean, I don't know what this guy wants,
- 17:18Speaker 5: so I trade him and just keep the change.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I mean that that would be egg on the face.
- 17:24Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 17:25Speaker 2: I don't know what the answer is, but that would
- 17:26Speaker 2: be awfully tough to reverse that.
- 17:28Speaker 1: All right, everyone ask to no out there.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Nh OLD quarter century Fan Vote presented by SAP design
- 17:33Speaker 2: the top twenty five players of the past twenty five years,
- 17:36Speaker 2: regardless of position. Talthing is some of the dark horses
- 17:39Speaker 2: in the vote. My guy Pronger, your Guy Jumbo, Joe Thornton, Agimler, Copatar, Pavelski,
- 17:45Speaker 2: but you, Catherine Tapping and Mike Rupp had a conversation
- 17:48Speaker 2: about this.
- 17:48Speaker 1: You post it on.
- 17:49Speaker 2: Ig Eddie Old Checkley Eddie Old Chiswall and so was
- 17:52Speaker 2: with you, guys, call he's promoting this the all Coarters
- 17:54Speaker 2: Sentry team and all of you unanimously stunned by the
- 17:58Speaker 2: notable snub of Marion Hosa.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Is it because his name is Marion? Why didn't he
- 18:03Speaker 1: get more love?
- 18:04Speaker 5: It's his name is Mary Ann No, Well, this is
- 18:08Speaker 5: voted by the fans, So this is all fans, and
- 18:11Speaker 5: they had like their first round of voting for the
- 18:14Speaker 5: first teams, Mary and Hosa didn't even make it. And
- 18:17Speaker 5: I was like, listen, I'm all for fan voting, and
- 18:20Speaker 5: but if this is what I'm gonna get, like, revoke it. Like,
- 18:24Speaker 5: just revoke the fan voting because the fact that you
- 18:27Speaker 5: would leave Mary and Hosa, who we were all joking
- 18:30Speaker 5: about that he played in the same era as me,
- 18:34Speaker 5: Eddie Olcik and Mike Grepp, who all played in different
- 18:36Speaker 5: eras and dominated every single one of those eras.
- 18:39Speaker 3: This guy is over thirteen.
- 18:41Speaker 5: Hundred games played, over eleven hundred points, two hundred and
- 18:45Speaker 5: five games played in the playoffs, one hundred and forty
- 18:48Speaker 5: nine points. He's as productive in the playoffs as he
- 18:52Speaker 5: was in the season selky nominee.
- 18:56Speaker 3: What did he have?
- 18:57Speaker 5: I'm gonna give you one of ninety three players in
- 18:59Speaker 5: NHL history Tocord over a thousand points.
- 19:02Speaker 3: Guy's got three cups. It like the way he.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Dominated like multiple generations and just was so good defensively,
- 19:11Speaker 5: so good, offensively so strong. One of the hardest guys
- 19:14Speaker 5: I've ever played against. We all looked at each other.
- 19:16Speaker 5: We're like kind of building out. We're talking before the
- 19:19Speaker 5: show and we're talking about snubs and Eddie Oltchak Goes
- 19:22Speaker 5: is married a host on this list, and we're like, no,
- 19:24Speaker 5: he's not on there.
- 19:24Speaker 3: They're like, no, he didn't make it. We're like, are
- 19:26Speaker 3: you kidding me?
- 19:28Speaker 5: Like this is the guy that you guys leave off,
- 19:30Speaker 5: Like forget about any stubs. This guy, this is an
- 19:32Speaker 5: all time snub because everything he did, penalty kill, power,
- 19:36Speaker 5: play five on five important situations, was a leader, was
- 19:40Speaker 5: a winner, Like could have kept playing if not for
- 19:43Speaker 5: a skin kind of disease that he had that like
- 19:46Speaker 5: he had really bad exeema and that he couldn't like
- 19:48Speaker 5: play in it. Guys are telling me stories of like
- 19:50Speaker 5: he couldn't even wear like his shoulder pads without like
- 19:53Speaker 5: his skin being irritated and still gutted through that to
- 19:57Speaker 5: be like as dominant as he was. I just think
- 20:00Speaker 5: it's it's a travesty that he doesn't make it.
- 20:04Speaker 2: I love you're passionate about it, and certainly I'm sure
- 20:06Speaker 2: Marion Hosa fans out there, I appreciate his contribution of
- 20:09Speaker 2: the game, and as you said, sometimes a fan votes,
- 20:10Speaker 2: you do open yourself up to some notable emissions. Coming
- 20:13Speaker 2: up next, Alex Goolagowski, Stanley Cup champion, dear friend of
- 20:17Speaker 2: Jason Demurz. He'll tell us stories not only about playing
- 20:19Speaker 2: with Jad, but also Marc Andre Fleury and Phil Kessel.
- 20:23Speaker 1: It's coming up right after this. You're an NHL Unscripted.
- 20:38Speaker 2: Alex Goolagowski played more than one thousand NHL games the Penguin, Stars, Coyotes,
- 20:42Speaker 2: and wild winning a Cup with Pittsburgh in two thousand
- 20:45Speaker 2: and nine. He officially announced his retirement in September after
- 20:48Speaker 2: seventeen NHL seasons. Ladies and gentlemen, here on Unscripted, The
- 20:51Speaker 2: Goose is Loose. Welcome to Alex Galagowski. Great to see
- 20:54Speaker 2: you man, Thanks for doing.
- 20:55Speaker 8: This, Thank you, Thank you for the intro. That was awesome.
- 20:58Speaker 2: No, of course you go way back with Jay. So
- 21:00Speaker 2: I'll let you guys get after here in a second.
- 21:02Speaker 2: I want to ask you first about being a part
- 21:04Speaker 2: of a huge trade near the deadline back in twenty eleven,
- 21:07Speaker 2: sent you to Dallas with James Neil and Matt Niskin
- 21:10Speaker 2: to come in too Pittsburgh the trade deadline coming.
- 21:12Speaker 1: I'm just curious. You know, people talk, but oh, this
- 21:14Speaker 1: is so great for this, this is the way for this.
- 21:15Speaker 1: From a player's perspective, it's not always great. This is
- 21:18Speaker 1: up people now, maybe there's a girlfriend, wife, kids, et cetera.
- 21:20Speaker 1: What was it like for you?
- 21:21Speaker 9: Yeah, completely out of the blue. Didn't see it coming whatsoever,
- 21:26Speaker 9: But thankful I was. I was young and you know,
- 21:30Speaker 9: living by myself and family wasn't wasn't involved. Yeah, I
- 21:35Speaker 9: can imagine that's a stressful time when you're moving family
- 21:38Speaker 9: or thinking about possibly having to go across country with
- 21:43Speaker 9: you know, everything that goes with that.
- 21:44Speaker 8: But yeah, for me, it was completely out of the blue.
- 21:49Speaker 9: But you know, Ray, Cheryl called me. I was waking
- 21:51Speaker 9: up for my pregame nap, and I knew that wasn't good.
- 21:55Speaker 9: We were a couple of days from the deadline, so
- 21:57Speaker 9: you know, I just kind of answered. I was like, oh, no,
- 21:59Speaker 9: where am I going? And he was just like, I'm.
- 22:02Speaker 8: Not like sending to Edmonton or anything.
- 22:04Speaker 9: You're going to Dallas. Like all right, I could do Dallas.
- 22:07Speaker 9: So it was, uh, it ended up being great for me.
- 22:10Speaker 9: I was sad to leave Pittsburgh at that time, especially
- 22:12Speaker 9: we had such a such an awesome, you know, young team,
- 22:15Speaker 9: and but I really enjoyed my years in Dallas and
- 22:20Speaker 9: got to meet Jason Demierz there and formed a bludding
- 22:24Speaker 9: friendship for for years to come. So it was it
- 22:28Speaker 9: ended up being a good thing.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Before we uh just bring it to all about me,
- 22:32Speaker 5: which I'll wait a little bit for that. You talk
- 22:36Speaker 5: about the trade deadline, but near the end of your
- 22:38Speaker 5: career in Mini, you had a chance to potentially go
- 22:41Speaker 5: to a Cup contending team chase another Cup, and you
- 22:46Speaker 5: kind of decided because of your family to not go
- 22:49Speaker 5: and kind of stay in Minnesota. Talk us through that
- 22:53Speaker 5: decision and kind of how hard it was to weigh
- 22:55Speaker 5: that with Amanda, who's your lovely wife.
- 22:58Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, thank you.
- 23:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 9: I mean, like I was kind of saying earlier when
- 23:05Speaker 9: I when I got traded from Pittsburgh. You're at a
- 23:08Speaker 9: different time in your life.
- 23:10Speaker 6: You know.
- 23:10Speaker 9: I was I signed back here with Minnesota, my my
- 23:14Speaker 9: hometown team, my you know, the state I was born in,
- 23:16Speaker 9: and it would just it didn't feel right to leave.
- 23:19Speaker 6: You know.
- 23:19Speaker 9: We were still we were still grinding it out here
- 23:22Speaker 9: in Minnesota. We had a chance to get in and
- 23:24Speaker 9: you know, I just kind of wanted to see it through,
- 23:26Speaker 9: even though I wasn't playing a ton And.
- 23:30Speaker 8: You know, if you if you decide to go, try
- 23:33Speaker 8: to chase it.
- 23:34Speaker 9: Uh, you know, you never know how that's gonna end up.
- 23:36Speaker 9: It would have want to ended up going very far anyway,
- 23:39Speaker 9: I don't think. But no, it was I have no
- 23:43Speaker 9: regrets for doing that. I was happy to stay and uh,
- 23:46Speaker 9: you know, try to battle with my guys here to
- 23:48Speaker 9: to do something.
- 23:49Speaker 3: So that was all good.
- 23:52Speaker 1: Goose.
- 23:53Speaker 2: It's interesting you started your career with Mark Andrey Flurry
- 23:55Speaker 2: in Pittsburgh then finished your playing days with Flurry in Minnesota.
- 23:58Speaker 2: How is young Flower different from old Flower, as his
- 24:01Speaker 2: longevity amazingly continues, Yeah.
- 24:03Speaker 8: I'm at all. It's it's crazy to tell people this
- 24:06Speaker 8: all the time.
- 24:07Speaker 9: He is, he looks the same, he's aged unbelievably, you know,
- 24:13Speaker 9: on and off the aress. He's he's zero stress. He
- 24:18Speaker 9: he's one of those guys. He's the last guy to
- 24:20Speaker 9: the rink, like their last guy to meetings. Like he's
- 24:22Speaker 9: just always just cutting it close.
- 24:24Speaker 8: He's just you know, no stress. He's he's just showing
- 24:28Speaker 8: up and.
- 24:29Speaker 1: He's a last guy in, first guy out. I love that.
- 24:32Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean he I mean not to say he
- 24:35Speaker 9: doesn't work hard. He works as hard as anybody, but
- 24:37Speaker 9: you know, he's just you know, he's he's going to
- 24:39Speaker 9: roll into the meeting one minute before it and he's
- 24:41Speaker 9: just he's just an easygoing guy. And he uh, I mean,
- 24:45Speaker 9: it's incredible what he's doing at forty one years old
- 24:47Speaker 9: to be a goalie. The way he plays, the athleticism,
- 24:51Speaker 9: and he's still so good. Like I mean, he could
- 24:53Speaker 9: he could keep playing, in my opinion, but we'll see
- 24:56Speaker 9: what he does here. But an all time teammate, like
- 25:01Speaker 9: you won't find a better teammate, especially as a goalie.
- 25:03Speaker 9: You know, they're they got their quirks. He's he's amazing.
- 25:08Speaker 5: Well, one of his quirks is like he's the biggest prankster.
- 25:11Speaker 5: And I'm sure you feel that a lot of this,
- 25:13Speaker 5: But do you have a really good young Mark Hendrey
- 25:17Speaker 5: like when he started pranking a good prank story and
- 25:20Speaker 5: then also later in his good now that you kind
- 25:22Speaker 5: of when you went back and played with him, like
- 25:24Speaker 5: did his pranks get better? Did they stay the same?
- 25:26Speaker 5: Did he kind of? Was there any evolution to it?
- 25:28Speaker 3: A little bit?
- 25:29Speaker 1: Well?
- 25:30Speaker 9: Funny enough, I saw it, Like last year, someone showed
- 25:33Speaker 9: me a clip of we did the It would have
- 25:36Speaker 9: been the second maybe second or third Winter Classic or no,
- 25:40Speaker 9: it wasn't the Winter Classic. We started the season over
- 25:42Speaker 9: in Sweden. We were in Stockholm and there's this video
- 25:45Speaker 9: clip of him putting it's like a little mini lobster
- 25:51Speaker 9: or something on my shoulder and I, to that day,
- 25:55Speaker 9: I had no clue it even happened. It was a
- 25:57Speaker 9: seventeen year joke, like like I was like, I didn't
- 26:00Speaker 9: even remember this, and he's.
- 26:02Speaker 8: Just like, oh, yeah, yeah, I did that.
- 26:04Speaker 9: Apparently I was walking around with a little lobster on
- 26:06Speaker 9: my shoulder for like three minutes in Stockholm, had no
- 26:09Speaker 9: idea and he just took it off and didn't tell
- 26:11Speaker 9: me ever. Psychopath but no, he uh like.
- 26:15Speaker 5: A joke for himself or he's just sitting yeah, like him.
- 26:21Speaker 9: Right and then yeah, not even say anything about it.
- 26:23Speaker 9: That's uh yeah, that's him. I don't know. He's rearranged
- 26:27Speaker 9: guys rooms, he's taken, he's put rooms out in hallways,
- 26:33Speaker 9: and it's always, you know, kind of young guys. It
- 26:36Speaker 9: was great when he was here in Minnesota, when Brandon
- 26:40Speaker 9: Dewham was here too. They would go back and forth
- 26:43Speaker 9: and I think, uh do he kind of got in
- 26:47Speaker 9: got it, got in a little deep and didn't know
- 26:49Speaker 9: what he was getting into he had. I mean, his
- 26:52Speaker 9: brand new dress shoes were nailed to the bottom of
- 26:54Speaker 9: his locker one day. He was missing, missing his briefs
- 26:58Speaker 9: quite quite a few times after games.
- 27:00Speaker 6: So uh, it was.
- 27:02Speaker 9: Just kind of he was playing the long game with Dewey,
- 27:05Speaker 9: just kind of chipping away at him day by day,
- 27:07Speaker 9: and eventually every he's like, I'm done, I'm done.
- 27:11Speaker 6: You got me? So.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Phil Kestle incredible goalscorer all those years you get to
- 27:15Speaker 2: play with a couple of seasons in Arizona. I'm not
- 27:17Speaker 2: sure if you ever put a crustacean on your shoulder,
- 27:19Speaker 2: But give me a Phil Kestle story.
- 27:22Speaker 9: Oh man, where to start? Philly Philly unbelievable teammate. I
- 27:29Speaker 9: love playing with Phil. I was actually teammates with him
- 27:32Speaker 9: at the University of Minnesota for one year. Yeah, and
- 27:36Speaker 9: he came in as an underage or he was like
- 27:38Speaker 9: eighteen years old, and he just was lighting up college
- 27:42Speaker 9: hockey and just eating candy on the side and just
- 27:47Speaker 9: I mean, just a character.
- 27:49Speaker 6: But he uh.
- 27:52Speaker 8: I remember I don't know if you remember.
- 27:53Speaker 9: This Jay one day and in Arizona, because he'd always
- 27:59Speaker 9: get ship from the trainers, you know, like come on,
- 28:02Speaker 9: can get film, get him in the weight room, you know,
- 28:04Speaker 9: like oh, part of the you know, like whatever whatever.
- 28:07Speaker 9: He came into the weight room one time after like
- 28:11Speaker 9: three people go and be like Phil, come on, let's go.
- 28:13Speaker 9: Everyone's working out.
- 28:14Speaker 6: Come on, come in.
- 28:15Speaker 9: And he came in and he grabbed he went the
- 28:19Speaker 9: hex bar lift, which is you know whatever, it's just
- 28:22Speaker 9: a leg lift.
- 28:23Speaker 3: Yeah, like a deadlift from the ground.
- 28:25Speaker 9: Right from the ground. And there's usually like three stations,
- 28:29Speaker 9: you know, the the weaker guys like myself would go.
- 28:32Speaker 8: I was always far right, far right, that was my station.
- 28:35Speaker 6: Yep.
- 28:36Speaker 9: Don't want to get hurt. I just want to get
- 28:37Speaker 9: my work in. And then there was the middle station,
- 28:39Speaker 9: and then there was like the heavy station. There was
- 28:41Speaker 9: like three guys that would do that, all the big boys,
- 28:44Speaker 9: and Phil. Phil walked in there and he went straight
- 28:46Speaker 9: to the heavy station and he just started wrapping this
- 28:48Speaker 9: thing out. He probably did like twenty of them and
- 28:51Speaker 9: then he just dropped the bar and he's like, is
- 28:53Speaker 9: that good?
- 28:54Speaker 6: And he just walked out.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Oh, there are some tough moments as well. Jason de
- 28:57Speaker 2: Murris joins with the Coyotes before the twenty seventeen Right,
- 29:01Speaker 2: you start the year ten to one, but cause she
- 29:04Speaker 2: ended up scoring in overtime against the Flyers. You guys
- 29:06Speaker 2: are both great guys, lighthearted, funny, but how did you
- 29:09Speaker 2: overcome such a brutal start?
- 29:13Speaker 1: I mean.
- 29:15Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean Jay, I ready you could probably venue
- 29:18Speaker 9: it almost real. Yeah yeah, I mean we we found
- 29:22Speaker 9: our way through it. We got through it, but I
- 29:26Speaker 9: mean we were finding we found every way you could
- 29:29Speaker 9: lose a game during that stretch.
- 29:30Speaker 6: It was.
- 29:31Speaker 9: It was incredible, like we we should have been at
- 29:34Speaker 9: worst like maybe a game or two hundred five hundred,
- 29:37Speaker 9: but we were just we would just lose game. The
- 29:39Speaker 9: first game of the season, I think we were up five,
- 29:41Speaker 9: five to one, four to one in Anaheim.
- 29:44Speaker 6: In Anaheim, I.
- 29:45Speaker 9: Think we were up four to one in the third
- 29:48Speaker 9: and we lost in regulation, and then it was like a.
- 29:51Speaker 8: Free fall after that.
- 29:52Speaker 9: Just couldn't We're grasping for straws and coming up with nothing.
- 29:56Speaker 6: It was. It was incredible.
- 29:58Speaker 5: You remember, you remember in the room goose in between
- 30:01Speaker 5: the second and the third in that game, and we're like,
- 30:02Speaker 5: we're the greatest team alive.
- 30:03Speaker 3: We might make the playoffs.
- 30:05Speaker 9: We're gonna make the play we were contenders after that
- 30:10Speaker 9: second period. Oh and then it all came crashing down.
- 30:14Speaker 9: That was that was that start was Yeah, I'll never
- 30:16Speaker 9: forget that start either. But it ended up you know what,
- 30:19Speaker 9: that year ended up being a really fun year though,
- 30:22Speaker 9: because we we kept getting better and obviously there's teams
- 30:24Speaker 9: you know, probably taking us lately as it went along,
- 30:27Speaker 9: but we we started at the bottom and we uh,
- 30:32Speaker 9: you know, we got we got a lot better that year.
- 30:34Speaker 8: So it'd not being kind of a fun year.
- 30:37Speaker 5: Well, I know the stat because after January we were
- 30:40Speaker 5: like the third best record in the league. Because I
- 30:42Speaker 5: did I did convince people that we weren't a bad
- 30:45Speaker 5: team that whole summer because they're like, ah, you guys
- 30:47Speaker 5: lost eleven straight and then.
- 30:50Speaker 3: You're the one that got us.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Oh my god, tell the story of because you know
- 30:55Speaker 5: Scott Wedgwoods had a great career. But do you remember
- 30:58Speaker 5: before we won our first game, Uh, the meeting we
- 31:02Speaker 5: had with Rick Tackett and Scott Wedgwood. Take us through
- 31:06Speaker 5: that meeting because it was one of the funnier things
- 31:10Speaker 5: I've ever heard of a player say in in a meeting.
- 31:13Speaker 9: It's yeah, it's funny enough. I actually just told this
- 31:16Speaker 9: story like two days ago because I saw Weggie. I
- 31:19Speaker 9: was just an Aspen skiing and I saw Leggie in
- 31:21Speaker 9: the airport. I was talking to him for.
- 31:22Speaker 3: A while ago.
- 31:24Speaker 9: Yeah, but then I was telling my buddies I was
- 31:26Speaker 9: about that was telling him this story. So we're on
- 31:28Speaker 9: what were we at that point?
- 31:30Speaker 6: Like maybe it.
- 31:31Speaker 5: Was owner like one or it was like it was
- 31:33Speaker 5: before the road trip where we won.
- 31:35Speaker 8: YEA with a couple ot losses.
- 31:37Speaker 6: But so we pick up we had.
- 31:38Speaker 9: We were struggling at the gold goaltending position, so we
- 31:41Speaker 9: picked up.
- 31:41Speaker 8: Weggie off Waivers right and.
- 31:46Speaker 1: He came in.
- 31:47Speaker 6: It was his first day.
- 31:48Speaker 8: So we're in in.
- 31:50Speaker 9: The Heila River Arena without a win to our name.
- 31:54Speaker 9: Sitting down in our video session, just like what are
- 31:57Speaker 9: we what are we going to get into today? And
- 32:00Speaker 9: you know, it's talks up there. You know, he's he's
- 32:03Speaker 9: trying everything he can at this point too, and you know,
- 32:06Speaker 9: he's just opening up the room. He's like you you know,
- 32:09Speaker 9: we have our meeting and he's like, all right, anyone
- 32:11Speaker 9: got anything else?
- 32:11Speaker 8: And you know, it's kind of just quiet. Only really
- 32:13Speaker 8: has anything.
- 32:14Speaker 9: We've we've already had the Kumbaya meetings for about you know,
- 32:18Speaker 9: two weeks at this point, and then all of a sudden,
- 32:20Speaker 9: just a voice from the back. Guy's like, yeah, I
- 32:22Speaker 9: got something and he kind of goes off with a
- 32:25Speaker 9: good speech about you know, everyone's got something to play
- 32:28Speaker 9: for whatever, and it's kind of all at the same time,
- 32:30Speaker 9: everyone was kind.
- 32:31Speaker 8: Of like who is that?
- 32:33Speaker 9: No one, no one had any idea who this guy was,
- 32:36Speaker 9: or just like this the new goalie and he's piped up.
- 32:38Speaker 6: In the meeting. Good for him, it was.
- 32:40Speaker 9: It was it was a funny, funny thing to be
- 32:44Speaker 9: a part of, though and walk out of there whatever,
- 32:45Speaker 9: it's just like what was that?
- 32:48Speaker 3: Like who's that?
- 32:48Speaker 5: He was like, He's like, we got to play for
- 32:50Speaker 5: contracts and like we also got to like play for
- 32:53Speaker 5: each other and like come on, guys, like we got
- 32:55Speaker 5: it in here and we're like.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Who up? Who is this guy that we just grabbed?
- 33:01Speaker 3: Like what? And he gets us the first win?
- 33:03Speaker 1: Is the goal? Oh yeah?
- 33:05Speaker 9: It was meant to be.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Big old balls on them.
- 33:07Speaker 8: Yeah yeah, hockey guys, you.
- 33:10Speaker 5: Have aspirations to be a potential GM and and you
- 33:14Speaker 5: know you've talked about it. Is there anything I'm not
- 33:17Speaker 5: going to get into Minnesota because you're kind of working
- 33:19Speaker 5: with them a little bit. And and but if you
- 33:22Speaker 5: put your GM hat on right now, who's the guy
- 33:24Speaker 5: that intrigues you on a team? And who's a guy
- 33:27Speaker 5: that you think, like, give us your insight. I'll go here,
- 33:30Speaker 5: I'll go give me your insight on Ranton and Carolina
- 33:33Speaker 5: right now?
- 33:34Speaker 3: Like what what the hell do they do right now?
- 33:38Speaker 8: You gotta trade them, don't you?
- 33:39Speaker 9: I mean you allegedly offered him a hundred million dollars.
- 33:44Speaker 8: I mean you can't.
- 33:47Speaker 9: You can't just lose that guy for nothing because you
- 33:50Speaker 9: get a haul back for him. It seems weird, but uh,
- 33:54Speaker 9: I think if you know, if he's not signing you,
- 33:57Speaker 9: you have to do it.
- 33:58Speaker 3: Would you still would you still get a haul back
- 34:00Speaker 3: from you think?
- 34:01Speaker 8: Mm hmm, yeah, I think so.
- 34:04Speaker 5: I mean with teams now, I guess said two million,
- 34:07Speaker 5: like his cap cap fits barely anything. But yeah, you're
- 34:09Speaker 5: saying trade him because it's like he's a if he's
- 34:11Speaker 5: saying no at one hundred million and dragging his feet.
- 34:15Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean what you know if if he was
- 34:18Speaker 9: on any other team and getting traded at the deadline,
- 34:20Speaker 9: he's getting a haul back for him. You know you're
- 34:22Speaker 9: getting for sure a first round pick and probably a
- 34:25Speaker 9: roster player in a prospect.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Gustus is awesome and Alskolagowski congrats in a wonderful career
- 34:31Speaker 2: and somehow maintaining a friendship with Jason Demurz after all
- 34:33Speaker 2: these years.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 34:36Speaker 8: Both equally impressive.
- 34:47Speaker 2: All right time at the Little Centophile in sixty The
- 34:49Speaker 2: Oscars are taking place on Sunday, and neither Jason de
- 34:52Speaker 2: Murz or Taal PINCHEFFI will have seen the Brutalist before then.
- 34:55Speaker 1: So the good news of.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Them is, I do not believe it's going to win
- 34:57Speaker 2: any major awards, with exception perhaps Asia and Brody Best Picture.
- 35:00Speaker 2: I'm predicting right now it won the PGA. It won
- 35:03Speaker 2: the DGA. It's going to be an Best Director. I'm
- 35:05Speaker 2: predicting Sean Baker. He won the dj that's the Director's
- 35:07Speaker 2: Guild Award. Best Actress is a very interesting race because
- 35:10Speaker 2: Mikey Madison does win the Bath to Let's Go, but
- 35:13Speaker 2: to me more won the SAG Award. Most of the
- 35:15Speaker 2: Academy is actors. I believe to me Moore will win.
- 35:18Speaker 2: Supporting is already a rap. Don't even bother betting on it.
- 35:20Speaker 2: And Zoe Seldon him as Kieran Culkin, which brings.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Us to Best Actor and all along.
- 35:25Speaker 2: It looks like it's going to be Adrian Brody for
- 35:26Speaker 2: the Brutalist to be his second Academy Award. He has
- 35:29Speaker 2: it once since he was twenty nine years of age
- 35:30Speaker 2: and he won for the Pianist. He was the youngest
- 35:32Speaker 2: Best Actor Oscarinner ever. But throwing a decisive monkey in
- 35:36Speaker 2: the wrench is the great Timiditay Shaloman who wins the
- 35:39Speaker 2: SAG Award and again SAG. The actors are the biggest
- 35:43Speaker 2: part of the ten thousand person Academy, so the fact
- 35:46Speaker 2: he won the Saga is pretty good. But more notably
- 35:48Speaker 2: for the appearance here of unscripted. It's what Shalamy said
- 35:51Speaker 2: when he won.
- 35:53Speaker 4: But the truth is, I'm really in pursuit of greatness.
- 35:58Speaker 4: I know people don't usually talk like that, but I
- 36:00Speaker 4: want to be one of the greats. I'm inspired by
- 36:02Speaker 4: the greats. I'm inspired by the greats here tonight. I'm
- 36:04Speaker 4: as inspired by Daniel day Lewis, Marlon Brando, and Viola
- 36:08Speaker 4: Davis as I am by Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps and
- 36:10Speaker 4: I want to be up there.
- 36:11Speaker 7: Jad.
- 36:12Speaker 2: So we're calling it cocky, strange, bizarre. I thought it
- 36:15Speaker 2: was fabulous, and you're married to an actress. What does
- 36:17Speaker 2: Jill think?
- 36:19Speaker 5: What did Jill think about it? Yeah, she said it
- 36:21Speaker 5: was She really enjoyed it. She's like, oh, yeah, this
- 36:23Speaker 5: is really cool. But again he's what is he dating
- 36:27Speaker 5: a Jenner at Kardashian No. I actually really thought it
- 36:30Speaker 5: was cool. I listened to it after you talked about it.
- 36:34Speaker 5: I thought it was a very well done speech. It's
- 36:37Speaker 5: nice to hear somebody from that industry acknowledged that. Listen,
- 36:43Speaker 5: I'm trying to be the great, one of the greats,
- 36:45Speaker 5: and I'm trying to strive for something greater than myself,
- 36:49Speaker 5: but also be the best version of myself. And I
- 36:51Speaker 5: just think I enjoyed hearing that because a lot of
- 36:54Speaker 5: them all a lot of pandering and nonsense, and you're
- 36:58Speaker 5: just like, just get to it. You guys all want
- 36:59Speaker 5: to be the best. I'm gonna be making the most money,
- 37:01Speaker 5: just say it so. And you said something right. You
- 37:03Speaker 5: said it was unabashed, which I thought so very very
- 37:06Speaker 5: well done by timidth Tay Shallo May and uh, he
- 37:10Speaker 5: did great job. I'm a big fan of his. In
- 37:12Speaker 5: Dune one of my favorite movies.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Done too.
- 37:15Speaker 5: Dannyville Nev got robbed once again. Another year, another dannyville
- 37:20Speaker 5: Nev robbery. But Timothay Chalome was fantastic, great acceptance speech.
- 37:24Speaker 5: Kid is ahead of his time.
- 37:27Speaker 2: And one more thought here just in the SAgs. I
- 37:29Speaker 2: don't know, I peop want to include this in the podcast.
- 37:30Speaker 2: You text me that you think it. You think the
- 37:32Speaker 2: Sagawarts is a masturbatory affair.
- 37:34Speaker 5: Yeah, masturbatory. The sag Awards is self masturbation. A's finest
- 37:41Speaker 5: by the acting community. Seventeen million award shows in a row.
- 37:48Speaker 5: Why not because we're the greatest. You want to clean
- 37:53Speaker 5: up downtown La put an award show there.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Everyone's looking for hatulation of some sort of merit real
- 38:02Speaker 2: quick cloth Because again I've toad you this before, and
- 38:04Speaker 2: I know you think you're good looking, so it doesn't
- 38:06Speaker 2: matter what I think. But I do think you'd be
- 38:07Speaker 2: good in the movie because you got a good look
- 38:09Speaker 2: to hit your talent.
- 38:10Speaker 3: I never once said I was good like I have
- 38:12Speaker 3: great personality.
- 38:14Speaker 2: You once said on the zoom Can I tell you, like,
- 38:16Speaker 2: look how good I look? Guys, my skin looks.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Jerking yourself off like that?
- 38:22Speaker 2: We need you goin to bash. Then you were on
- 38:25Speaker 2: the batch in love with yourself. We do need to
- 38:27Speaker 2: get you in the biopic with the Life of NHL
- 38:29Speaker 2: start Thel Flurry. I guess it's a little guy. Flury
- 38:31Speaker 2: is are my favorite guys. This guy's five six scoring
- 38:33Speaker 2: goals to Flames.
- 38:34Speaker 1: I loved him.
- 38:34Speaker 2: The film is called Flurry and will start. Actor Kevin
- 38:37Speaker 2: Zieger's in the Tunnel role. We already said you can
- 38:39Speaker 2: play a racist coach in the upcoming Young Blood reboot.
- 38:42Speaker 2: Now I need to get this deal Flurry biopic.
- 38:44Speaker 5: I can play. I have a lot of range and
- 38:49Speaker 5: I can do it. I think I can do it.
- 38:52Speaker 5: Theo Flurry gave me a call I'd love to be
- 38:54Speaker 5: a part of it. I mean, his story is wild
- 38:57Speaker 5: and you know what he came from, and very harrowing that,
- 39:02Speaker 5: you know, how people can take advantage of these kids
- 39:03Speaker 5: and so like that, especially in junior and just in
- 39:07Speaker 5: the sports field. You think you're safe at times, but
- 39:09Speaker 5: you're not. So I just think it's a it's a
- 39:10Speaker 5: crazy story, it's a it's a good cautionary tale for
- 39:14Speaker 5: a lot of kids, and I think it's going to
- 39:15Speaker 5: be great. So I would love to be a part
- 39:17Speaker 5: of it, obviously, But you know, just give me a call.
- 39:20Speaker 2: Our second guest, you're an NHL inscripted is Devin Dubnik.
- 39:23Speaker 2: Had a terrific career in the NHL, played for variety
- 39:25Speaker 2: of teams. We'll ask them about that journey, plus what
- 39:28Speaker 2: do you thought of Jordan Bennington's stellar work at the
- 39:30Speaker 2: Four Nations. Our next guest, to first round pick of
- 39:39Speaker 2: the Edmonton Oilers back in two thousand and four, went
- 39:42Speaker 2: on to be a three time NHL All starring collect
- 39:44Speaker 2: two hundred and fifty three wins with six NHL teams.
- 39:48Speaker 2: Also a former teammate colleague of Me and JD's NHL Network,
- 39:50Speaker 2: The one and only Devin Dubnik doude be great to
- 39:53Speaker 2: see man.
- 39:54Speaker 6: How you been good? Thanks for that intro. That's nice,
- 39:57Speaker 6: that feels good.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Of course it's accurate.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I want to get right into Canada and the Four
- 40:01Speaker 2: Nations and you know what it's like because you represented
- 40:03Speaker 2: Canada World Championship Cup.
- 40:05Speaker 1: You know the pride you have playing for our country.
- 40:07Speaker 3: And hey, hand of the back we played it.
- 40:10Speaker 6: Spangler Cup alumni.
- 40:11Speaker 1: We played spang A.
- 40:12Speaker 3: Cup together and won it. So were your research ad
- 40:17Speaker 3: nan Burg.
- 40:17Speaker 2: But listen, I want I want to go into Bennington first,
- 40:19Speaker 2: but if you want to talk Spangler Cup, I figured
- 40:21Speaker 2: Four Nations was a little more peraly Spangler Cup stories momentarily.
- 40:26Speaker 2: But I wanted to ask you to me about Binner.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Were you skeptical like others or were you confident he
- 40:31Speaker 1: would step up?
- 40:34Speaker 10: I was in between. I wasn't skeptical. You can't be
- 40:36Speaker 10: skeptical of a guy that want to stand the cup.
- 40:38Speaker 10: And he's a very good goaltender, so there was no
- 40:41Speaker 10: there was no skepticism about his ability to do it.
- 40:44Speaker 10: It's just whether or not he would. And and again,
- 40:49Speaker 10: I mean people just didn't I didn't like to look
- 40:51Speaker 10: on paper That's kind of what I was saying.
- 40:53Speaker 6: Leading after the tournament.
- 40:55Speaker 10: You know, people were pretty upset with Canada's goaltending for
- 40:58Speaker 10: having two Stanley Cup winners on their team and went
- 41:01Speaker 10: through the other teams no offense to anybody, but I
- 41:03Speaker 10: didn't see many, So it was funny how that worked.
- 41:07Speaker 10: And then you look, this is a guy that performs
- 41:09Speaker 10: when it matters, and he did the same thing in
- 41:11Speaker 10: the Stanley Cup playoffs and there's that experience, that experience
- 41:15Speaker 10: winning and knowing how to win. It means something, and
- 41:19Speaker 10: he showed it there. You know, even throughout the tournament,
- 41:22Speaker 10: people are given it to him for whatever reason.
- 41:25Speaker 6: I mean, he faced an extremely.
- 41:27Speaker 10: High number of high danger chances throughout the tournament and
- 41:30Speaker 10: was still playing well, and so he faced criticism throughout
- 41:34Speaker 10: the tournament as well, and all he did was come
- 41:36Speaker 10: up huge when it matter and you could just see
- 41:39Speaker 10: the way the way Bennington was moving. I mean his
- 41:41Speaker 10: save on Matthews in overtime, the blocker say, it was
- 41:43Speaker 10: like put it in a.
- 41:44Speaker 6: Textbook on how to.
- 41:47Speaker 10: Enter and exit out of a reverse VH if that
- 41:51Speaker 10: means anything to you, guys, but it was.
- 41:53Speaker 6: It was textbook.
- 41:53Speaker 10: And then he follows that up with it with a
- 41:55Speaker 10: glove save, and that glove save.
- 41:56Speaker 6: Is a perfect example of just feeling it.
- 41:58Speaker 10: I mean, that's one of the best shooters on the
- 42:00Speaker 10: planet and that thing went right in the pocket of
- 42:02Speaker 10: his glove from twenty feet.
- 42:04Speaker 5: Now, do the Connor Helliu goal against McDavid's goal.
- 42:08Speaker 3: What was that push? Was that under? Was that an
- 42:11Speaker 3: under push or was he a little late getting out?
- 42:14Speaker 10: I mean, I I think it's fine, listen, we can
- 42:16Speaker 10: we can, we can slow that thing down. But the
- 42:18Speaker 10: only thing you need to slow down is how fast
- 42:20Speaker 10: that thing got off of caught off of Connors stick
- 42:23Speaker 10: and went straight in the elbow.
- 42:25Speaker 6: I mean, if you want to if it went.
- 42:27Speaker 10: Under his hand or or you know, in the elbow
- 42:30Speaker 10: of his arm or something and he just missed it.
- 42:32Speaker 10: I mean, this is this is on and off his
- 42:34Speaker 10: stick before you even know what happens. I remember watching
- 42:38Speaker 10: the game and I knew the game was over. I'm
- 42:40Speaker 10: sure it wasn't the only one, but it was like
- 42:42Speaker 10: seeing the pass dead just miss Matthews and it wasn't
- 42:47Speaker 10: even on McDavid's stick yet, and there was just a
- 42:49Speaker 10: part of me that was like, oh, game's over.
- 42:51Speaker 3: We're like game Connors like game there he goes that.
- 42:55Speaker 6: First time he got open all night too.
- 42:57Speaker 10: I mean it was the US just doing an unbelievable
- 43:00Speaker 10: job of shutting a guy down that I didn't realize
- 43:02Speaker 10: it was possible to be shut down at all.
- 43:05Speaker 6: It only takes once.
- 43:06Speaker 1: No, it is true. It was a hell of a tournament.
- 43:08Speaker 2: And again Hell quited himself, Well, he's obviously the favorite
- 43:10Speaker 2: right now for the Vesna win his third. I want
- 43:12Speaker 2: to ask you to be about some guys frustrated and
- 43:14Speaker 2: sounding off.
- 43:15Speaker 1: Luke Shehanla Petters said.
- 43:16Speaker 11: I don't think I've ever been a part of a
- 43:18Speaker 11: group he's literally can't score goals. I mean, obviously, you know,
- 43:22Speaker 11: sometimes you're you're giving up a lot or defensive games
- 43:26Speaker 11: out there, but at least you know you get you
- 43:27Speaker 11: catch you at break and catch the puck.
- 43:29Speaker 1: In the dead Chef Jones, the Blackhawks.
- 43:31Speaker 12: We're the exact same team right now as you were
- 43:32Speaker 12: as Game one, and I think it's pretty pretty evident
- 43:35Speaker 12: out there we haven't made any strides to be a better,
- 43:40Speaker 12: more simple hockey team, you know, and the shows you know,
- 43:44Speaker 12: we don't get a lot of wins because of that.
- 43:46Speaker 2: You're on some young teams in Edmonton that faced adversity.
- 43:50Speaker 2: What is that atmosphere like and how do you overcome it?
- 43:53Speaker 6: It's difficult. I mean, you got two different situations there.
- 43:57Speaker 10: Nashville is a strange one, right because they got all
- 43:58Speaker 10: these they got all these veteran guys who are proven
- 44:01Speaker 10: players that are still great players, and and you look
- 44:05Speaker 10: at that team and it doesn't make sense that they're
- 44:09Speaker 10: as bad as they are, because you know, maybe they
- 44:11Speaker 10: wouldn't be great and be one of the best teams
- 44:15Speaker 10: in the league, but it's strange to see how bad
- 44:17Speaker 10: they are.
- 44:18Speaker 6: So I don't know that that one's kind of a
- 44:20Speaker 6: weird dynamic.
- 44:21Speaker 10: But you got to imagine all those all those guys,
- 44:24Speaker 10: veteran guys in there, who have been there, done that.
- 44:26Speaker 10: It's got to be extremely frustrating for them when they
- 44:29Speaker 10: expect a lot out of themselves and expected a.
- 44:30Speaker 6: Lot going into the season.
- 44:31Speaker 10: And then the Chicago thing is similar to the Edmonton
- 44:35Speaker 10: For me when I started, it's just you every year.
- 44:40Speaker 10: We had a bunch of years where we were just awful,
- 44:42Speaker 10: and you get through it and there's bumps, there's some
- 44:46Speaker 10: ups and a lot of downs, but you have these glimmers,
- 44:49Speaker 10: and then you enter the next season and it's this
- 44:52Speaker 10: new ray of hope. We get we had another first
- 44:55Speaker 10: overall draft pick in empton of like three or four
- 44:58Speaker 10: of them, and and it's like this new energy and
- 45:01Speaker 10: everybody's excited, and you have the summer and you come
- 45:04Speaker 10: in the season and we're gonna make this big step.
- 45:06Speaker 10: And then, like Seth Jones said, it is just disheartening
- 45:10Speaker 10: to be at the same spot and look and be
- 45:13Speaker 10: like we have not grown at all.
- 45:17Speaker 6: Uh, and it's and then it's just it's demoralizing.
- 45:20Speaker 5: You know, I don't know what your thoughts are, and
- 45:22Speaker 5: I just have a hard time when you build this
- 45:25Speaker 5: culture of losing and even though you're not trying to,
- 45:28Speaker 5: you're trying to, you know, you're trying to rebuild, they
- 45:30Speaker 5: call it, but call it what it is. They're you know,
- 45:32Speaker 5: they're breaking it down to the studs to kind of
- 45:35Speaker 5: get some top top end talents and franchise generational changing players.
- 45:40Speaker 5: Blake do be like after a while, it's like those
- 45:43Speaker 5: guys learn how to lose, and then it's so hard
- 45:45Speaker 5: to break that habit. And I mean, you've been on
- 45:47Speaker 5: some teams where it's like you listen to Seth Jones
- 45:50Speaker 5: and a Schenner where it's like you.
- 45:51Speaker 3: You don't even want to come to the rink anymore.
- 45:53Speaker 5: And it's it's tough to say because it's a game
- 45:55Speaker 5: we love and you're getting paid to do it, and
- 45:57Speaker 5: but it is when you when you, it's so demoralizing
- 46:00Speaker 5: to lose that much, and you never want to get
- 46:02Speaker 5: young kids, young kids coming in the league learning that way.
- 46:05Speaker 6: No, you nailed it. That's that's the biggest thing, is
- 46:07Speaker 6: that learning to lose. And we did exactly that in
- 46:09Speaker 6: Edmonton in it.
- 46:10Speaker 10: And it's so tricky and you see the players, the
- 46:14Speaker 10: young players that have the most success are the guys
- 46:17Speaker 10: that come in and they get to learn and make their.
- 46:19Speaker 6: Mistakes while winning.
- 46:20Speaker 10: And that's that's such a big difference, because you know
- 46:24Speaker 10: they're out there making mistakes.
- 46:26Speaker 6: You have to let them go out.
- 46:27Speaker 10: And make mistakes and learn, but they're learning how to
- 46:29Speaker 10: win at the same time and learning like, Okay, I'm
- 46:32Speaker 10: on a winning team, like that's unacceptable. You know, I'm
- 46:35Speaker 10: not going to get sent down to the miners for
- 46:37Speaker 10: making that mistake, but I'm going to know quickly that
- 46:39Speaker 10: that's unacceptable.
- 46:40Speaker 6: And that's not going to help us win in Edmonton.
- 46:43Speaker 10: For us, it was like we had you know, Taylor Hall,
- 46:46Speaker 10: Jordan Everley, Nugent Hopkins, Nail Jacopov.
- 46:51Speaker 6: And yeah, Justin Justin Schultz was there.
- 46:57Speaker 10: I mean, we had all these young guys and they're
- 47:00Speaker 10: they're great players and they turned out they went on
- 47:02Speaker 10: to be great players.
- 47:03Speaker 6: So they were great hockey. There is almost all of them.
- 47:05Speaker 10: Yeah, my boy Nail, but we uh they they were
- 47:12Speaker 10: given ice time, so they come in and instead of
- 47:14Speaker 10: coming in on a team and and learning through winning
- 47:18Speaker 10: and learning from from and earning what they got, they
- 47:21Speaker 10: came in and it was just like first line minutes
- 47:24Speaker 10: point night, Like they just they got what they got,
- 47:28Speaker 10: regardless of if we lost ten games in a row.
- 47:31Speaker 10: There was no there was no one pushing behind them.
- 47:35Speaker 10: And they learned like they learned everything the wrong way.
- 47:38Speaker 10: It was just it was about getting the points. And
- 47:42Speaker 10: I mean, listen, it's it's also survival mode because like
- 47:45Speaker 10: you said, you start.
- 47:45Speaker 6: To hate coming to the rink and.
- 47:47Speaker 10: And hockey's not fun. You got to find a way
- 47:49Speaker 10: to make it fun. You got it, and scoring goals
- 47:52Speaker 10: is fun. So but they you just don't learn to
- 47:56Speaker 10: play the right way. And that's why it's not surprising
- 47:59Speaker 10: that that those guys need to go elsewhere and put
- 48:02Speaker 10: themselves in different situations to learn what.
- 48:05Speaker 6: It is and how to play and how to win.
- 48:07Speaker 2: I wanted to ask me about a specific moment. This
- 48:09Speaker 2: is the last one for me. You bounce around between Edmonton, Nashville, Arizona.
- 48:12Speaker 2: You end up in Minnesota. You started thirty eight straight games,
- 48:16Speaker 2: which is insane. You get named at All Star, you
- 48:19Speaker 2: win the Mashton, you finish third invested voting, and maybe
- 48:22Speaker 2: even more impressive fourth in the heart fote.
- 48:25Speaker 1: How did you do it?
- 48:27Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 48:28Speaker 10: That was That was a crazy, crazy year. You know,
- 48:31Speaker 10: I I call it playing with house money. So it
- 48:33Speaker 10: was I was you know, I was almost sute of
- 48:36Speaker 10: the league, and Arizona was the only team that offered
- 48:39Speaker 10: me a one way contract.
- 48:41Speaker 6: I was excited for it. It was a place I
- 48:43Speaker 6: was familiar with. I played.
- 48:45Speaker 10: Against them a whole bunch, knew a bunch of the
- 48:48Speaker 10: guys in the room. Was a very comfortable situation for
- 48:50Speaker 10: me to go into new Shawn Burke. I was excited
- 48:53Speaker 10: to work with him, so I was able to kind
- 48:55Speaker 10: of slowly get my game up and and also in
- 48:57Speaker 10: case you guys were wondering, it's not a hockey hotbed.
- 48:59Speaker 10: So I could go there and be away from pressure
- 49:02Speaker 10: and not feel like every time I stepped on the
- 49:04Speaker 10: ice my game was going to get picked apart by
- 49:06Speaker 10: by eighteen beat writers. I was able to kind of
- 49:10Speaker 10: go and find my game within the least pressure area
- 49:14Speaker 10: that I that I could, and so I could I
- 49:16Speaker 10: kind of build my game up and and at first,
- 49:18Speaker 10: going into the season, I was like, Hey, I'm just
- 49:20Speaker 10: going to be grateful of being playing in the NHL,
- 49:23Speaker 10: and it doesn't matter how many games I get.
- 49:25Speaker 6: I'm gonna enjoy when I get on the ice and
- 49:27Speaker 6: just enjoy it. And I did, and that was my mindset.
- 49:30Speaker 10: But then, you know, as I started to play more
- 49:32Speaker 10: and started to earn more starts and two in a row,
- 49:34Speaker 10: three in a row here.
- 49:35Speaker 6: And there, I started to get the itch back and
- 49:37Speaker 6: I was.
- 49:37Speaker 10: Like, hey, I can do this, Like I I could
- 49:40Speaker 10: be a starting goal or at least play more. And
- 49:42Speaker 10: then you know, the trade talks start to kind of
- 49:46Speaker 10: bubble around and nothing really got serious. I knew that
- 49:49Speaker 10: there was a chance, but because it wasn't. It was
- 49:51Speaker 10: before the deadline in January and then all of a sudden,
- 49:54Speaker 10: it was off to Minnesota, and again I knew nothing.
- 49:57Speaker 10: I had no expectations going to Minnesota. The only thing
- 50:00Speaker 10: I knew is they were a really good hockey team
- 50:02Speaker 10: that was not performing, not getting wins. But I knew
- 50:05Speaker 10: they were good. So I just kind of said to myself,
- 50:08Speaker 10: same same approach. Enjoy every game, don't think about what
- 50:13Speaker 10: this means for next year, don't think about us having
- 50:16Speaker 10: a two percent chance of making the playoffs. Just get
- 50:18Speaker 10: ready for every game and enjoy it. And then it
- 50:21Speaker 10: just kind of it just kind of snowball. And I
- 50:24Speaker 10: just like I said, I was playing with house money,
- 50:25Speaker 10: so I was never everything was a bonus from there
- 50:28Speaker 10: on out. I was going to be going to the
- 50:30Speaker 10: season thinking I was going to get eighteen to twenty games,
- 50:33Speaker 10: and now I'm playing And then and then I started
- 50:35Speaker 10: playing so much in a row that it was almost
- 50:36Speaker 10: like like we needed to win every game. And the
- 50:40Speaker 10: other goal he hadn't played. It was Darcy Kemper and
- 50:42Speaker 10: Nicholas Bactrim. They hadn't played a month, then month and
- 50:46Speaker 10: a half, and it was like, now we need these
- 50:48Speaker 10: wins and they hadn't played for six weeks so we
- 50:51Speaker 10: can't put them in because it's not fair for them
- 50:53Speaker 10: and we need these wins.
- 50:54Speaker 6: So it just kind of kept going until we finally clinched.
- 50:57Speaker 10: The playoffs and then and then I got a night off.
- 51:06Speaker 1: All right, thanks? What's going to Devin? Dude?
- 51:08Speaker 6: Nick?
- 51:08Speaker 2: Some great stuff they're on goal to. I'm not sure
- 51:10Speaker 2: if all of you heard it, but me and Jason
- 51:11Speaker 2: definitely did. All right, Jady, how do you want to
- 51:14Speaker 2: close up things anitalln scripted Episode thirteen?
- 51:16Speaker 1: What do you got for me? Am I wrong? Yeah?
- 51:19Speaker 5: Final thoughts for am I wrong? And this is a
- 51:22Speaker 5: question to the folks in the back everybody. When you
- 51:26Speaker 5: text somebody, and I know we're in a world where
- 51:28Speaker 5: it's texting and I personally would rather FaceTime and call people,
- 51:32Speaker 5: but we're in a group thread. The three of us,
- 51:34Speaker 5: me and tal will will very very passionately send text
- 51:38Speaker 5: messages talking about how we want the show to go,
- 51:41Speaker 5: what guests we want, how we want things to be formatted.
- 51:45Speaker 5: Very you know, we care, and our colleague here at
- 51:50Speaker 5: NNVERK will just give you and I'll send, like again,
- 51:54Speaker 5: I look like a crazy ex girlfriend. I'll send like
- 51:56Speaker 5: four messages in a row and I might over message.
- 51:58Speaker 1: It's exactly I think the proper right there, over the
- 52:01Speaker 1: hell up, shut the hell. I might.
- 52:03Speaker 5: I might over message at times, but all I get
- 52:07Speaker 5: I'll send four messages very nice and tale respond to me,
- 52:11Speaker 5: and then we'll get I'll look at my phone, I'll
- 52:12Speaker 5: see ping, ping, ping notifications.
- 52:16Speaker 3: Ad NaN's responded.
- 52:17Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, he's answering back with like a nice answer,
- 52:20Speaker 5: thoughtful answer. No, it's a reaction to whatever I texted,
- 52:25Speaker 5: whether it's a thumbs up, a goddamn exclamation point, or
- 52:28Speaker 5: a thumbs down, maybe a haha at times if it's
- 52:31Speaker 5: something funny, And I find that such a slap in
- 52:34Speaker 5: the face. So people, when you send a long text message,
- 52:37Speaker 5: is it a slap in the face when somebody just
- 52:38Speaker 5: sends a reaction instead of an actual thoughtful answer.
- 52:42Speaker 2: In return, I think it's really funny. I'm glad that
- 52:45Speaker 2: you're passionate about it. But Tow will back me up.
- 52:47Speaker 2: He doesn't want to do this because as a producer
- 52:49Speaker 2: it's hard.
- 52:49Speaker 1: You don't want to play favorites. But in fairness, I
- 52:50Speaker 1: did just read his book. He knows that you over message,
- 52:53Speaker 1: and because he's to produce, you just to be polite
- 52:55Speaker 1: and placates you. I'm smart, I'm just efficient. So I
- 52:57Speaker 1: just go, Okay, this isn't notable, but I'll give you
- 53:00Speaker 1: a like, I'll give you up be sizes like I'm
- 53:02Speaker 1: paying attention. But it's it's too much. Tell back me up,
- 53:05Speaker 1: it's too much.
- 53:06Speaker 13: Well for there's no right answer for me right now.
- 53:09Speaker 13: I'm just gonna throw that out there. I love the passion.
- 53:12Speaker 13: I'm gonna think I'm gonna come in and just diplomatically
- 53:16Speaker 13: say that it's a pleasure to work with someone who
- 53:19Speaker 13: is so fully invested in making NHL Unscripted the best
- 53:24Speaker 13: and most successful show it can be. But yeah, sometimes
- 53:30Speaker 13: it's a bit much.
- 53:31Speaker 1: Sorry, Jay, thanks for listening to Unscripted. Enjoy the oscars.
- 53:37Speaker 7: Will be back next week, boo.
