- 0:00Speaker 1: All right. Welcome back to college football addiction.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We are presented by prize picks Jerry Hamilton here with
- 0:05Speaker 2: on Texas football game of the year type stuff for Texas,
- 0:10Speaker 2: Ohio state, just a massive one down in Austin Saturday
- 0:12Speaker 2: night could not be a better time slot for this too.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I'd imagine that the partying will start very soon after
- 0:19Speaker 2: we start recording this, but they've all been waiting for
- 0:21Speaker 2: us to record before they go out and go crazy.
- 0:23Speaker 2: But just this game is so important in so many
- 0:28Speaker 2: different angles. But I think it's a lot more important
- 0:30Speaker 2: for Texas to go out and win this game than
- 0:32Speaker 2: it is Ohio State. When I think about what happened
- 0:34Speaker 2: last year, when I think about both teams' schedules, not
- 0:36Speaker 2: that Ohio State's is not hard, too. When I think about,
- 0:40Speaker 2: you know, just we have a little more confidence in
- 0:42Speaker 2: Ohio State to win these big games. And we're waiting
- 0:45Speaker 2: on Texas to do it, too.
- 0:47Speaker 1: And it's at home.
- 0:48Speaker 2: So every way I look at it, it's like, man,
- 0:51Speaker 2: I feel like Texas has got to win this game. Now,
- 0:53Speaker 2: they'll be fine if they don't. They have plenty of opportunities.
- 0:55Speaker 2: But this game is huge for Steve Sarkeesian and the boys.
- 0:58Speaker 3: I totally agree with you, TJ. Look, it's a huge game.
- 1:02Speaker 4: For both programs. I'll get into that for the Ohio
- 1:07Speaker 4: State side at the end of this answer.
- 1:08Speaker 3: But from the Texas perspective, I think you're right, and
- 1:11Speaker 3: I think the Texas fan base feels that as well. Look,
- 1:16Speaker 3: there is no getting around the fact that Ohio State's
- 1:19Speaker 3: lost 15 NFL draft picks on defense the last two
- 1:22Speaker 3: years combined from those teams Texas played.
- 1:26Speaker 4: One, that means guys that weren't starting.
- 1:28Speaker 3: Maybe a couple of portal guys that came over got drafted,
- 1:31Speaker 3: but those were great players. Not good, great players. Caleb Downs,
- 1:35Speaker 3: Arvel Reese. I can keep going on. McDonald at D-line.
- 1:38Speaker 3: We can keep naming guys. There were some of those
- 1:42Speaker 3: that were styles, were great football players. As talented as
- 1:46Speaker 3: Ohio State is, as good a coach as Matt Patricia is,
- 1:49Speaker 3: at some point there's a Tiny fall off.
- 1:53Speaker 4: Does that mean they're not going to win a national championship?
- 1:56Speaker 4: I'm not saying that.
- 1:57Speaker 3: But it's just like when you look at Miami this year.
- 1:59Speaker 3: You're not going to be quite as good at those
- 2:01Speaker 3: edge spots as you were last year. Does that mean
- 2:03Speaker 3: you can't win a title?
- 2:04Speaker 4: It doesn't.
- 2:04Speaker 3: But it does mean you may have to be a
- 2:07Speaker 3: little different at times. And this Ohio State defense has
- 2:09Speaker 3: lost so many players that this should easily be Texas'
- 2:14Speaker 3: best offensive output against Ohio State because the last two
- 2:17Speaker 3: weren't great.
- 2:19Speaker 4: So were more than even good. the Texas fans would say.
- 2:22Speaker 3: So I think that's the reality of where this game
- 2:25Speaker 3: is for Texas. Texas goes out and gets Cam Coleman.
- 2:28Speaker 3: They get Melvin Ciani at right tackle. They're able to
- 2:30Speaker 3: kick Brandon Baker, who's an NFL player, in the right guard.
- 2:33Speaker 3: They have Trevor Goosby back at left tackle. They went
- 2:35Speaker 3: out and get Hollywood Smothers and Relique Brown to go
- 2:38Speaker 3: with Cam Coleman.
- 2:39Speaker 4: Emmitt Mosley's healthy this year. He didn't play in that
- 2:42Speaker 4: game last year. He's a really good player.
- 2:44Speaker 3: He'll be a drafted player. So Arches in year two
- 2:47Speaker 3: as a starter. and I think this game will tell
- 2:50Speaker 3: us how much he's progressed. I don't think last week
- 2:53Speaker 3: there was much to tell from that on progression. I
- 2:55Speaker 3: don't buy all the people saying, oh, well, I can
- 2:57Speaker 3: tell all these clickbait things.
- 2:58Speaker 4: Oh, I can tell how much he's progressed. Really, can you?
- 3:02Speaker 4: I don't think you can.
- 3:03Speaker 3: I mean, I like Arch, and I think Arch is
- 3:05Speaker 3: a really good player, but you can't go off of
- 3:08Speaker 3: that game and go out there and start saying how
- 3:10Speaker 3: much a guy's progressed.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Same thing with Julian Sand.
- 3:13Speaker 3: This week we start to see those things, and that's
- 3:16Speaker 3: a huge game for Texas because your point, onto your point, TJ,
- 3:21Speaker 3: if you, the loser of this game Saturday night has
- 3:26Speaker 3: one game cushion on their schedule. And these are arguably
- 3:29Speaker 3: the two toughest schedules in the country for the contenders
- 3:33Speaker 3: for the playoffs.
- 3:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I mean, look, Texas, if they drop this game and
- 3:38Speaker 3: you have one game to play, if they're going to
- 3:39Speaker 3: say one game, you know, 10 and two.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Gets you in.
- 3:41Speaker 3: If you play a great schedule in the sec or
- 3:43Speaker 3: big 10, nine and three, it's still, you may or
- 3:45Speaker 3: may not probably not.
- 3:47Speaker 4: Uh, But, you know, Texas still has– we can just
- 3:50Speaker 4: zip down the list if we want. We know the schedule.
- 3:52Speaker 4: I mean, you've got Oklahoma neutral.
- 3:54Speaker 3: You're at A & M the end of the year.
- 3:56Speaker 3: You have Florida and Ole Miss back-to-back weeks. You're at
- 3:58Speaker 3: Tennessee in September 26th. Everything at LSU, boy, that looks
- 4:03Speaker 3: a little tougher today.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Doesn't it?
- 4:05Speaker 3: So, you look at the schedule and say, so we
- 4:08Speaker 3: can only drop one more of those games? We can
- 4:10Speaker 3: have one bad game where we have to play through
- 4:12Speaker 3: some injuries that happen over the course of a season
- 4:15Speaker 3: and we got one hiccup left? That looks like a
- 4:18Speaker 3: tougher task. For Ohio State.
- 4:20Speaker 4: Though, I think it's the same thing, TJ.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I mean, look, do I think the loser of this
- 4:24Speaker 3: game is not going to make the college football playoffs?
- 4:26Speaker 4: I'm not saying that.
- 4:27Speaker 3: But what I am saying is your margin for error
- 4:29Speaker 3: goes way down. The winner of this game has two
- 4:32Speaker 3: games to play with, where if a sand or an
- 4:35Speaker 3: arch went down and you dropped the game, okay, it's
- 4:39Speaker 3: not devastating to you.
- 4:41Speaker 4: You have two to play with.
- 4:43Speaker 3: But I think it's the same for Ohio State, and
- 4:45Speaker 3: I think both these teams are fully capable of I
- 4:48Speaker 3: don't think anything's guaranteed for the loser of this game.
- 4:51Speaker 4: Because just go look at Ohio State's road schedule, too.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Go to Bloomington.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Have to play Oregon at home. Michigan, maybe not. We'll
- 4:58Speaker 2: see how they look later in the year. But, yeah,
- 5:00Speaker 2: it's still all there, man. It's still a very tough
- 5:03Speaker 2: road to get through. I know it's so hard to
- 5:08Speaker 2: have massive takeaways from week one when a lot of
- 5:12Speaker 2: the teams play.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Bad competition or lower competition.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Um, but did you see anything that kind of does
- 5:19Speaker 2: tell you, Hey, here's where I think we maybe took
- 5:21Speaker 2: a step forward or is that just too hard to project?
- 5:23Speaker 1: No, that kind of opponent.
- 5:25Speaker 4: No, I think talent wise. Absolutely. You can see that.
- 5:28Speaker 4: I mean, you can see it at positions. You can
- 5:29Speaker 4: see it individually.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I mean, Cam Coleman, you adding Cam Coleman to a
- 5:33Speaker 3: receiver core, the Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley, Cam Coleman's
- 5:36Speaker 3: a top what three, four receiver in the country. I
- 5:39Speaker 3: think Jeremiah Smith's one and Malachi Toney's two, and I
- 5:42Speaker 3: think Cam Coleman is in that conversation for three and
- 5:45Speaker 3: probably the leader to be three, a first-round pick after
- 5:47Speaker 3: this year. So, yeah, I mean, he makes Ryan Wingo's
- 5:51Speaker 3: job easier. He makes Emmitt Mosley's job easier. He makes Arch.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Manning's job easier. It's Arch.
- 5:57Speaker 1: It's Arch.
- 5:59Speaker 4: Good one.
- 5:59Speaker 1: It's Arch.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Hollywood Smothers, Relique Brown. Yeah. Great. Trey Weiser's not getting
- 6:05Speaker 4: on the field at FSU. Yeah. I mean, he's 13th.
- 6:08Speaker 4: And he's a good.
- 6:09Speaker 3: Player, and he gave his heart to the University of
- 6:11Speaker 3: Texas program. But they obviously upgraded there with Hollywood Smothers
- 6:16Speaker 3: and Relique Brown. Tight ends are a year older, I
- 6:18Speaker 3: think better players. Melvin Siani at right tackle is not–
- 6:23Speaker 3: I'm not sitting here saying, oh, he's a massive upgrade
- 6:26Speaker 3: over Brandon Baker. He's a massive upgrade for the offensive
- 6:29Speaker 3: line because you can move Brandon Baker to more of
- 6:31Speaker 3: his natural right guard spot. So Melvin Siani's a draft pick.
- 6:35Speaker 3: So on defense, I mean, look, a young guy like
- 6:38Speaker 3: Justice Terry was injured last year, ended up having a
- 6:41Speaker 3: five-star recruit out of Manchester, Georgia, had a pec shoulder
- 6:45Speaker 3: deal that kind of played through in high school, played
- 6:48Speaker 3: through at Texas.
- 6:49Speaker 4: He had surgery.
- 6:50Speaker 3: Now he's a healthy player. He hadn't been a healthy player,
- 6:52Speaker 3: and now he's 290. He was 258 when he got
- 6:55Speaker 3: to Texas. So you can look at those things at
- 6:58Speaker 3: Bo Masco. Raheem Biles is a freak. I know you're
- 7:01Speaker 3: familiar with him in the ACC. Raheem Biles is not
- 7:04Speaker 3: a good player. I think he's a great football player.
- 7:06Speaker 3: That doesn't mean he's going to be a top 10
- 7:07Speaker 3: or 15 pick. You can see that guy's a great player.
- 7:11Speaker 3: He did the same thing Saturday he did in the
- 7:14Speaker 3: ACC at Pitt. That guy's just a playmaker. You can
- 7:18Speaker 3: see areas where they definitely upgraded in some talent spots,
- 7:23Speaker 3: but to the degree, all this stuff matters on Saturday
- 7:26Speaker 3: when you play Ohio State and then you get into
- 7:28Speaker 3: your SEC schedule. It's no different, TJ, that if you
- 7:32Speaker 3: know if anybody watched LSU and your only answer is
- 7:35Speaker 3: Clemson sucks well then you're underestimating the talent okay LSU
- 7:41Speaker 3: they have a ton of talent in their starters and
- 7:43Speaker 3: all you had to do was watch a half of
- 7:45Speaker 3: that game and then go back and watch LSU last
- 7:48Speaker 3: year to say okay these guys are really really talented
- 7:51Speaker 3: and Lane Kiffin's got a great offensive scheme.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah with this matchup the biggest question I had for
- 7:57Speaker 2: Ohio State and I will do this on both sides
- 7:59Speaker 2: but The biggest question I had for Ohio State coming
- 8:01Speaker 2: in this year was their offensive line. Obviously, the last
- 8:04Speaker 2: two times we saw them play, gave up five sacks
- 8:07Speaker 2: to Indiana, gave up five sacks to Miami.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Both elite defensive lines.
- 8:11Speaker 2: But let's not kid ourselves that Texas also doesn't have
- 8:13Speaker 2: an elite defensive line and a great front.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Is that.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Is that, I mean, obviously we all know like games
- 8:19Speaker 2: are one of the trenches and all these things.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And even with cam and even with.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Jeremiah and Julian and arch, but like, is that, is
- 8:25Speaker 2: that the matchup that you feel like this comes down to?
- 8:28Speaker 1: Is that Texas front versus the Ohio state front?
- 8:31Speaker 2: I will get right back to the Texas side of
- 8:33Speaker 2: our Texas and Ohio state preview. But first I want
- 8:35Speaker 2: to tell you about our friends over at prize picks,
- 8:37Speaker 2: all new users who play $ 5, get $ 150 instantly in lineups.
- 8:42Speaker 2: If they win that first one using code H M
- 8:44Speaker 2: a this weekend game of the year, Texas, Ohio State.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Give me the more on Arch Manning's touchdown passes. It's 1.5
- 8:52Speaker 2: down there on the screen. Give me the more on
- 8:56Speaker 2: Wingo's receiving yardage too. I think he does get over
- 8:59Speaker 2: this number. I think they're going to pay a lot
- 9:01Speaker 2: of attention to Cam Coleman, put Devin Sanchez on him,
- 9:04Speaker 2: and that's going to help out Ryan Wingo a ton.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Go over to the PrizePix app, play your favorite lineup,
- 9:10Speaker 2: tail me, avoid me, whatever you want to do. That's
- 9:12Speaker 2: all fine. Go check out the PrizePix app. We appreciate
- 9:15Speaker 2: them for their support. Now back to the interview.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Yeah, on both sides.
- 9:19Speaker 3: That's really where I come out because, look, if you
- 9:21Speaker 3: look at those Ohio State games last year, Miami had
- 9:26Speaker 3: them at 45 yards rushing. That's counting sacks. I mean,
- 9:29Speaker 3: they sacked Julian Sane five times. He threw a couple
- 9:31Speaker 3: of picks, right? He threw a pick against Indiana, was
- 9:34Speaker 3: sacked five times. Indiana had 60 more rushing yards than
- 9:40Speaker 3: Ohio State did in that game. The blueprint for their
- 9:43Speaker 3: losses were pretty much the same. I mean, if you
- 9:46Speaker 3: look at it, They were pretty much the same. So, look,
- 9:49Speaker 3: and I know the teams are different, but I 100% agree, TJ.
- 9:53Speaker 3: And we've been talking about this on our shows on
- 9:55Speaker 3: On Texas Football. Yeah, I mean, Cam Coleman could go
- 9:58Speaker 3: make some 50-50 ball in 90-10 and make some spectacular
- 10:03Speaker 3: play to win the game. Jeremiah Smith could too, but
- 10:07Speaker 3: I really think when this game comes down to the
- 10:11Speaker 3: offensive and defensive lines here, and I know that's such
- 10:13Speaker 3: an elementary answer, but when you get into these games,
- 10:18Speaker 3: What made Miami who they were last year?
- 10:20Speaker 4: They were able to pressure the quarterback and run the football.
- 10:24Speaker 4: I mean, let's be real.
- 10:25Speaker 3: Of course, Beck played well in the playoffs, but let's
- 10:27Speaker 3: just go back to that. I mean, Indiana could run
- 10:30Speaker 3: the ball in command. They could man you up and
- 10:33Speaker 3: get after you at the quarterback position. They could slow
- 10:35Speaker 3: down the run. So I do think that is massive. Look,
- 10:38Speaker 3: I think Ohio State is super talented. One thing I'll
- 10:40Speaker 3: say about Ohio State, and this doesn't mean they're not
- 10:42Speaker 3: going to go win 11 games in the regular.
- 10:45Speaker 4: Season, 12, 16, you know, that just, to be determined.
- 10:49Speaker 3: But they have a minor offensive tackle issues right now.
- 10:52Speaker 3: They pulled the right tackle against Ball State. The left
- 10:55Speaker 3: tackle made his second career start against Ball State. And
- 10:59Speaker 3: guys crossed his face a few times. He didn't look
- 11:03Speaker 3: as quite as athletic as some offensive tackles they've had
- 11:06Speaker 3: in the past years. Doesn't mean he's not a good player.
- 11:08Speaker 3: He's a young player. But you can see, okay, and
- 11:12Speaker 3: even Ohio State fans are a little concerned about their
- 11:14Speaker 3: offensive line. Ohio State's offensive line has to come to play.
- 11:18Speaker 3: They have to make a big jump from week one
- 11:20Speaker 3: to week two because Texas does present different issues. Colin
- 11:23Speaker 3: Simmons is a great pass rusher, an elite player, a
- 11:26Speaker 3: top ten pick. Texas has some size on the interior.
- 11:30Speaker 3: Now the question for the Texas interior, and this will
- 11:33Speaker 3: play out a little bit starting this week, are they really,
- 11:36Speaker 3: really good against the run and maybe don't have.
- 11:39Speaker 4: The interior pass rusher they need?
- 11:41Speaker 3: Is Will Muschamp going to have to manufacture that with
- 11:44Speaker 3: double A gap blitzes? Right. I mean, is there something
- 11:47Speaker 3: he's going to have to do? Because you have to
- 11:48Speaker 3: pressure Julian saying up the middle. Yes, you want to
- 11:51Speaker 3: have the edge pressure. But for a quarterback that's a
- 11:54Speaker 3: pocket guy that you want to make play on the move,
- 11:57Speaker 3: because that's what Indiana, that's what Miami did. You have
- 12:00Speaker 3: to get pressure up through the gaps on the interior.
- 12:04Speaker 3: So that's the question with the Texas defensive line. They
- 12:06Speaker 3: can play the run in your forwards really big time
- 12:09Speaker 3: nose guard against the run.
- 12:11Speaker 4: Maraud Watson, a really good player. Hero Canu, established player.
- 12:14Speaker 3: The young Justice Terry I talked about I think has
- 12:16Speaker 3: some disruptive ability to him. But do you have pass rush.
- 12:21Speaker 4: Up the middle?
- 12:23Speaker 3: And then for the Texas offensive line, they're going to
- 12:24Speaker 3: have to hold up against– look, James Smith comes off
- 12:27Speaker 3: the bench for Ohio State. He transferred from Alabama. I
- 12:31Speaker 3: went to see him in high school. James Smith's athleticism pops.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I mean, at 6'3, 305, he is an elite athlete,
- 12:39Speaker 3: the interior defensive line position. Texas has to win some
- 12:42Speaker 3: of those one-on-ones because when he comes off the bench
- 12:45Speaker 3: for Ohio State, he was brought in to be a
- 12:47Speaker 3: disruptive player, and he is. John Walker, the UCF transfer
- 12:51Speaker 3: at nose guard for Ohio State, is 6'1, probably, 305,
- 12:55Speaker 3: but do you know what he is? He's a leverage-winning
- 12:59Speaker 3: bull rusher over the ball. You have to anchor well,
- 13:02Speaker 3: and you have to handle him from the center position,
- 13:05Speaker 3: or he will collapse your pocket and disrupt your timings.
- 13:08Speaker 3: So I do– I think this is huge for Texas
- 13:11Speaker 3: in this game on the offensive and defensive lines and
- 13:14Speaker 3: Ohio State. I really do think the star skill players
- 13:18Speaker 3: are going to make plays, but I still think this
- 13:21Speaker 3: game is old school football by and large and that
- 13:24Speaker 3: whoever can make the other one-dimensional, who can stop the
- 13:27Speaker 3: run and run the football effectively enough, and then that
- 13:32Speaker 3: gets you in the second and shorts, the second and mediums,
- 13:35Speaker 3: and lets your playmakers really go get it Because I
- 13:39Speaker 3: think the defensive coordinator that has to call his defense
- 13:42Speaker 3: on the most second and short, second and mediums, third
- 13:45Speaker 3: and shorts is at a disadvantage at this game. So
- 13:48Speaker 3: I think down defense is huge. I think the ability
- 13:51Speaker 3: to run the football is huge.
- 13:53Speaker 2: On the other side of that, you talk about the playmakers,
- 13:55Speaker 2: whether it's Cam going up against Sanchez or, you know, like.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, I'm just juiced that football is back.
- 14:03Speaker 1: I'm thankful we have a Wednesday night NFL game. Bring
- 14:06Speaker 1: it all on, man.
- 14:06Speaker 2: But when you do think about those skill positions against,
- 14:10Speaker 2: I mean, these are two of the better skill units
- 14:13Speaker 2: in the country, and they're two of the better secondaries
- 14:15Speaker 2: in the country.
- 14:16Speaker 1: It is just truly good on good everywhere, and that's
- 14:18Speaker 1: a lot of fun. can you even call an edge
- 14:22Speaker 1: in that? I mean, obviously Jeremiah Smith's the best player
- 14:24Speaker 1: in the day. I understand that.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Right.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Like, but can you even call an edge when you
- 14:28Speaker 2: look at how much talent is in both, both rooms
- 14:31Speaker 2: on both sides?
- 14:32Speaker 3: Well, yeah, I'll tell you what's the, what's an interesting
- 14:35Speaker 3: thing with this game is that the big 10 media days,
- 14:39Speaker 3: they handed a Jeremiah Smith a schedule and said, what
- 14:42Speaker 3: game do you have circled?
- 14:43Speaker 4: He circled Texas. Yeah.
- 14:45Speaker 3: He's two and O against Texas, but, He's had two
- 14:49Speaker 3: of his worst games against Texas in his college career.
- 14:53Speaker 4: And he knows that.
- 14:54Speaker 3: And, look, Texas did an amazing job defensively against him
- 14:58Speaker 3: in that Cotton Bowl, that national semifinal loss.
- 15:01Speaker 4: Amazing.
- 15:02Speaker 3: That Texas secondary obviously had a Thorpe Award winner and
- 15:05Speaker 3: great communication.
- 15:07Speaker 4: Not good, great communication.
- 15:08Speaker 3: A coverage bustle is like nonexistent with that secondary all
- 15:12Speaker 3: season long.
- 15:13Speaker 4: Last year, a little bit different. They still had some
- 15:16Speaker 4: of that experience.
- 15:18Speaker 3: But this year's Texas secondary, that's the question I have
- 15:23Speaker 3: about Texas going into this game and some future matchups
- 15:27Speaker 3: in the season until it plays out and Will Muschamp
- 15:30Speaker 3: gets it situated where he wants it to be. I mean,
- 15:33Speaker 3: they moved Kobe Black to safety from corner. Everybody saw
- 15:36Speaker 3: his big hit that went viral last Saturday, him bringing
- 15:41Speaker 3: that physicality, which was kind of what people said, okay,
- 15:45Speaker 3: can he do this? Can he bring the physicality from
- 15:49Speaker 3: corner to safety? Well, he did that, but he's still
- 15:52Speaker 3: an inexperienced player covering as a safety. Cade Phillips is
- 15:57Speaker 3: very talented at the corner opposite Bo Masco, still a
- 16:00Speaker 3: young player in coverage in terms of reps against high-level competition,
- 16:05Speaker 3: talent-neutralized situations, or a player that may be slightly more
- 16:08Speaker 3: talented than him.
- 16:10Speaker 4: So, I mean, you look around.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Bo Masco's second game at Texas, Grayson Littleton was a
- 16:15Speaker 3: star at nickel for Texas as a freshman and in
- 16:18Speaker 3: this game. His first ever college game was against Ohio State,
- 16:21Speaker 3: and he was tremendous in that game. But that's kind
- 16:23Speaker 3: of my question, TJ, is the Texas secondary. Two years ago,
- 16:29Speaker 3: they had great communication, like I said. They just had
- 16:31Speaker 3: each other's back. There weren't coverage busts. And that's why
- 16:36Speaker 3: it's so important, I think, for Texas to stop the
- 16:38Speaker 3: run so we'll doesn't always have to bring the extra
- 16:42Speaker 3: number and try to manufacture pressure and put those guys
- 16:45Speaker 3: in some adverse situations. But look, I think Jeremiah Smith
- 16:49Speaker 3: is the best offensive player in this game. I don't
- 16:54Speaker 3: think there's any doubt about that. And I find it
- 16:56Speaker 3: so interesting that he absolutely knows his stats from the
- 16:59Speaker 3: last two games against Texas. And he circled that game,
- 17:02Speaker 3: even though he beat him twice. And look, Ohio State's
- 17:06Speaker 3: starting a freshman at nickel. So will Texas try to
- 17:10Speaker 3: attack that with a more experienced player? Probably so. Ohio
- 17:14Speaker 3: State's secondary is really good. Is it as good as
- 17:16Speaker 3: it was the last two years? Probably takes a small
- 17:18Speaker 3: step back, too. I mean, how can you be? You
- 17:20Speaker 3: lost great players.
- 17:22Speaker 4: I do think the.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Devin Sanchez-Cam Coleman matchup when Sanchez-Coleman is fascinating because, to me,
- 17:30Speaker 3: when you look at Cam Coleman, the two corners I
- 17:34Speaker 3: really want to see go against him in man where
- 17:37Speaker 3: a defensive coordinator says, my cat versus your cat is
- 17:41Speaker 3: Devin Sanchez at Ohio.
- 17:43Speaker 4: State and D.J. Pickett at LSU. And Texas plays them
- 17:46Speaker 4: both this year.
- 17:46Speaker 3: The two sophomores are two corners that should be top 15,
- 17:51Speaker 3: 20 picks in the NFL draft after the 2027 season.
- 17:55Speaker 3: So I do think that Coleman-Devin Sanchez matchup, when we
- 17:59Speaker 3: get that Saturday night, is going to be really fun
- 18:01Speaker 3: to watch because he has the ability, Sanchez has the
- 18:04Speaker 3: ability to take that 50-50 ball, closer to 50-50. We're
- 18:09Speaker 3: against most corners for Cam Coleman. It's 80-20. I think
- 18:12Speaker 3: that he has the ability to go make a play
- 18:14Speaker 3: on the football in the air and run with Cam
- 18:18Speaker 3: Coleman down the field and make those plays. I don't
- 18:21Speaker 3: know if I answered your question, TJ, but that is
- 18:23Speaker 3: my take on this from a second. Texas secondary is
- 18:27Speaker 3: one area I'm really watching Saturday night.
- 18:29Speaker 1: I'll give you one more that's not on the schedule,
- 18:31Speaker 1: but maybe we'll get in the playoff. I'd like to
- 18:33Speaker 1: see Leonard Moore and him.
- 18:35Speaker 4: I'd like to see him.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And Texas fans, oh, well, we don't want that matchup. Well,
- 18:38Speaker 1: it'd be in the playoffs, so I guess you.
- 18:39Speaker 4: That's right.
- 18:39Speaker 1: No, you want the matchup. Bring it on, man.
- 18:43Speaker 3: You want the matchup unless you're both 9-3 and playing
- 18:45Speaker 3: in a bowl game.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Right, right, right.
- 18:46Speaker 1: In the Pop-Tart Bowl. Although they may opt out, so
- 18:49Speaker 1: who knows. Yeah. Quickly on this, and then we'll predict
- 18:53Speaker 1: and get out, but Michigan-Oklahoma? Yeah.
- 18:58Speaker 2: I mean, do you just feel like that's an Oklahoma
- 19:00Speaker 2: kind of runaway, or do you think Michigan plays better
- 19:02Speaker 2: this week?
- 19:04Speaker 4: I mean.
- 19:04Speaker 3: I don't know what to think after last week. All
- 19:07Speaker 3: summer I was like, oh, Michigan will give them a game.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Kyle Whittingham, it's going to have to be physical. Oklahoma
- 19:13Speaker 3: is going to have to physically go to Ann Arbor to.
- 19:15Speaker 4: Win the game.
- 19:17Speaker 3: But– and I call– and I jokingly call him Backfoot Bryce,
- 19:20Speaker 3: Bryce Underwood, because he threw off his back foot so
- 19:23Speaker 3: much in the Citrus Bowl last year against Texas. I
- 19:25Speaker 3: coined him Backfoot Bryce. They don't– Michigan does not have
- 19:30Speaker 3: the quarterback play to win the game.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Right. Period. Period. Period.
- 19:34Speaker 3: I mean, Kyle Whittingham seriously is considering making a move.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Expensive move to make, by the way. But I go
- 19:43Speaker 3: Oklahoma two touchdowns. I know Michigan's going to come back
- 19:47Speaker 3: with a spirited effort.
- 19:49Speaker 4: They should be 0-1.
- 19:51Speaker 3: But, I mean, they're just– unless Bryce Underwood plays the
- 19:55Speaker 3: game of his life, that was the opposite last week.
- 20:00Speaker 3: I just don't– I don't think Michigan has the juice.
- 20:02Speaker 3: I think they've got enough talent, but– I think that
- 20:07Speaker 3: they're just going to lack the juice in this game.
- 20:09Speaker 4: I do think Mateer, healthy, a little bit better player.
- 20:12Speaker 3: I think Oklahoma can run the football a little bit better,
- 20:14Speaker 3: but they've had, oh, well, injuries throughout fall camp. But
- 20:18Speaker 3: after last week, I'd be an idiot to pick Michigan.
- 20:22Speaker 2: Which means– I'm the same way, which means Michigan's probably.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Going to win. Then it's college football.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 3: But, I mean, nobody can pick Michigan after last week, really.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Nobody with a clear mind can.
- 20:34Speaker 4: I'll say that.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Before the season started, I said there were seven teams
- 20:37Speaker 2: that could win the national championship. I had Ohio state, Oregon, Indiana, Miami,
- 20:41Speaker 2: Notre Dame, Texas, and Georgia. I had LSU number eight
- 20:45Speaker 2: and thought if it clicks in time, I'll move LSU
- 20:49Speaker 2: into that. Is it too much of a week one
- 20:51Speaker 2: react overreaction to say, no, they're in, they're in that
- 20:53Speaker 2: top eight, right?
- 20:54Speaker 4: No, they're in that top eight. They're in that top
- 20:56Speaker 4: eight based on talent.
- 20:57Speaker 3: I mean, look, I'm not going to dance. I, you know,
- 20:59Speaker 3: I've even taken some from Texas fans on our website
- 21:02Speaker 3: about this, but I'm not going to dance around this.
- 21:04Speaker 4: We know talent.
- 21:05Speaker 3: We know what the team looks like when they're taking
- 21:09Speaker 3: the field and when they go out and execute at
- 21:12Speaker 3: a high level. What's interesting about LSU, though, but I'm
- 21:15Speaker 3: not picking them to go 12-0. I think the SEC,
- 21:18Speaker 3: and they don't have the toughest SEC schedule like Oklahoma
- 21:21Speaker 3: or Texas maybe, but I still think these SEC teams
- 21:24Speaker 3: are going to beat each other up a little bit. Look,
- 21:27Speaker 3: Sam Leavitt, can he stay healthy all year the way
- 21:30Speaker 3: he plays? One year he did, one year he didn't
- 21:32Speaker 3: in the Big 12. He's a risk taker with his
- 21:37Speaker 3: body at the quarterback position. He's a hell of a
- 21:39Speaker 3: player when he's healthy. But again, you know, LSU, and
- 21:45Speaker 3: you know what that staff is sitting around talking about, TJ.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Now everybody's telling these guys how good they are. So
- 21:52Speaker 3: not only making good money, now they're being told how
- 21:54Speaker 3: good they are, right?
- 21:55Speaker 4: So how are they.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Going to be in that first adverse situation when it
- 22:01Speaker 3: hits them in the face.
- 22:02Speaker 4: If they go to Ole Miss, and Ole.
- 22:04Speaker 3: Miss has serious coverage issues, that's a bad thing when
- 22:07Speaker 3: Lane Kiffin's team is coming to town to sit there
- 22:09Speaker 3: and say, oh, my God, we have five or six
- 22:11Speaker 3: coverage busts and four of them went for scores. That's
- 22:13Speaker 3: a dangerous place to be when LSU is coming to
- 22:15Speaker 3: town with Kiffin and that talent. If they go up
- 22:18Speaker 3: there and kind of handle Ole Miss, people are going
- 22:21Speaker 3: to start talking about them as a top two or
- 22:23Speaker 3: three contender.
- 22:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:24Speaker 2: I think we all knew that the talent was there.
- 22:26Speaker 2: We just kind of wondered how quick it would click.
- 22:28Speaker 2: And it was drive two. It was drive two that
- 22:31Speaker 2: it clicked. And if it wouldn't have hit off the
- 22:34Speaker 2: guy's hands, it probably would have been drive one.
- 22:36Speaker 4: I mean, defensively, they had some really good players back.
- 22:39Speaker 3: But to your point, offensively, new quarterback, new offensive line,
- 22:45Speaker 3: new running back, new wides.
- 22:48Speaker 4: I mean, it was all new.
- 22:50Speaker 3: Defensively, Boy, Coach Baker is in a really good spot
- 22:54Speaker 3: with this defense because he had Whit Weeks, DJ Pickett,
- 22:59Speaker 3: had another starting safety. Those freshman D linemen are only
- 23:02Speaker 3: going to get better, by the way. That's the thing
- 23:04Speaker 3: about LSU defensively. This isn't the best LSU defensively. Wait
- 23:09Speaker 3: until those freshman defensive linemen. Deuce Gerald's got the start.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Richard Anderson's a monster. I saw him at Edna Carr
- 23:16Speaker 3: in high school. Wait until those guys start factoring in.
- 23:18Speaker 3: But then you get Ty Benefield, who's a first, second-round
- 23:21Speaker 3: pick from Boise at safety. You have Ross from Tennessee.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Prince Will came from Ole Miss, who's probably a second-round
- 23:29Speaker 3: draft pick. But they had Dominic McKinley back on the
- 23:33Speaker 3: inside and a couple other guys. They had some good
- 23:35Speaker 3: players back, but then the pieces they put around them
- 23:38Speaker 3: are all high level. I sat there and watched them
- 23:41Speaker 3: last Saturday, and I was counting the playmakers.
- 23:44Speaker 4: I was like, one, two, three, four.
- 23:47Speaker 3: I was like, wow, Coach Baker is going to have
- 23:48Speaker 3: fun calling defense. I'm not taking them to go 12-0,
- 23:52Speaker 3: but their talent level in their first 22 is as
- 23:54Speaker 3: good as anybody.
- 23:55Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Every SEC team feels to me like 10-2, 11-1, and
- 24:00Speaker 2: then it's how healthy are they when they get to January.
- 24:04Speaker 3: That's the tough thing to navigate in the SEC this year, TJ,
- 24:07Speaker 3: is you lose a week off and gain.
- 24:10Speaker 4: An extra SEC game.
- 24:11Speaker 3: So there's some teams, like Texas plays eight SEC games
- 24:15Speaker 3: in a row in the season without a week off.
- 24:18Speaker 3: I mean, that's a lot of games in a row
- 24:19Speaker 3: to play against high-level, high-leverage situations against really good athletic
- 24:24Speaker 3: teams because there is no– it's not very forgiving if
- 24:27Speaker 3: you get an injury bug at a position or two
- 24:29Speaker 3: throughout the season. And I do think the injuries, those
- 24:33Speaker 3: injury reports this year are going to play a huge
- 24:36Speaker 3: role in who wins the SEC.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 24:39Speaker 1: What's your score on this one this weekend?
- 24:42Speaker 3: I'm in a tough spot here because we did a
- 24:44Speaker 3: preseason prediction show and I picked Texas to go 10-2.
- 24:47Speaker 3: And I had their two losses against Ohio State at
- 24:49Speaker 3: home and LSU on the road. And I can't change
- 24:53Speaker 3: that now because how much of a hypocrite am I
- 24:55Speaker 3: two weeks later? I think, you know, look, I think
- 24:59Speaker 3: the games at home, I think Texas has all these
- 25:02Speaker 3: advantages in this game from the night game, from having
- 25:06Speaker 3: Ohio State at home. And I know Ohio State fans, oh,
- 25:08Speaker 3: the heat won't matter. Heat matters in the south. I
- 25:11Speaker 3: don't care what your temperature has been in the north.
- 25:14Speaker 3: It still matters when you come down to the south.
- 25:17Speaker 3: That field is going to be around kickoff is probably
- 25:20Speaker 3: going to be 140, 150 degrees. It was 160 last
- 25:22Speaker 3: week for a mid-afternoon game.
- 25:25Speaker 4: That stuff matters.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Even Ryan Day said we're going to have to use
- 25:27Speaker 3: our depth this week.
- 25:28Speaker 4: He knows it. So there's a lot of things.
- 25:30Speaker 3: In Texas favoring this, but I can't be a hypocrite
- 25:34Speaker 3: and had sat on the show and said 10 and
- 25:36Speaker 3: two Texas, my two losses are Ohio state and LSU
- 25:39Speaker 3: and then go change it two weeks later.
- 25:40Speaker 4: That what a chick.
- 25:42Speaker 3: I've got to go based on my, uh, preseason prediction.
- 25:45Speaker 3: I've got to go a house. I may, I think
- 25:47Speaker 3: it may actually be a little more higher scoring too.
- 25:50Speaker 3: I'm going to go Ohio state 30, Texas 24 late score, Ohio.
- 25:55Speaker 1: State hoping to be wrong.
- 25:58Speaker 3: That over-under is sitting at 49.5. For some reason, I
- 26:03Speaker 3: just think it's going to be a little bit quarterbacks
- 26:05Speaker 3: in second year. Maybe both defenses aren't quite as good,
- 26:10Speaker 3: especially Texas early. They're good, but maybe in week two
- 26:14Speaker 3: under Muschamp. I think it may be a little more
- 26:16Speaker 3: higher scoring. Cam Coleman added and the running backs added
- 26:18Speaker 3: to the Texas mix. Ohio State has the best player
- 26:21Speaker 3: in the country and really good players around them. But
- 26:24Speaker 3: I will say the team that runs the football best,
- 26:26Speaker 3: I do think has a major advantage in this game.
- 26:29Speaker 1: I like the I like the higher scoring.
- 26:31Speaker 2: I could see it being similar to not quite in
- 26:34Speaker 2: the same way, but similar to Louisville and Ole Miss
- 26:37Speaker 2: was where when it gets crunch time. both of these
- 26:40Speaker 2: teams just go into that extra mode and they just
- 26:43Speaker 2: answer each other in the second half where it's like,
- 26:45Speaker 2: maybe it goes to the halftime 17 to 10.
- 26:47Speaker 1: And then you're walking out of there.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Like both teams are right around that 30 or, you know,
- 26:50Speaker 2: high twenties where they've just answered back and forth and
- 26:53Speaker 2: back and forth, just efficient drives.
- 26:55Speaker 1: That'd be kind of how I see it. But I
- 26:56Speaker 1: have no idea who wins this.
- 26:57Speaker 4: I have no, I'm in the same place.
- 26:59Speaker 1: I mean, like, how do you know?
- 27:00Speaker 4: I'll be carpenter.
- 27:01Speaker 3: I'll be carpenter came on our show. He said, man, look,
- 27:04Speaker 3: we were talking about the teams. He was on one,
- 27:05Speaker 3: one national title. A couple others came close. He said,
- 27:08Speaker 3: Sometimes it's luck, man.
- 27:09Speaker 4: The ball, the way the ball bounces.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Bounces your way, yeah.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Who makes a play at the right.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Time and somebody doesn't make a play at the right
- 27:15Speaker 3: time on the other team. And less than one team
- 27:18Speaker 3: plays poorly. That's the type of game you're going to get.
- 27:20Speaker 3: I mean, last year, Arch did not play well in
- 27:23Speaker 3: that game. If he plays well in that game, that
- 27:26Speaker 3: game's different. I'm not saying Texas wins, but Ohio State
- 27:28Speaker 3: can't play as conservative with Julian saying if Arch plays
- 27:31Speaker 3: well in that game, because that forces Ohio State's hand.
- 27:34Speaker 4: So... I that's some of these games, man. It's, they're
- 27:37Speaker 4: fun to predict. It's fun for the fans. And, um,
- 27:40Speaker 4: and I hope that, look, look who I cover.
- 27:42Speaker 3: I hope Texas, Steve Sarkeesian, huge for arch Manning, huge
- 27:47Speaker 3: for this Texas program, but I'm not going to back
- 27:50Speaker 3: away from a preseason prediction show two weeks ago.
- 27:53Speaker 4: If I'm doing that, I mean, what am.
- 27:56Speaker 2: I just because of the, uh, Texas state game. So, um,
- 28:02Speaker 2: What do you guys have coming this week? I know
- 28:04Speaker 2: you guys will do a watch along. I know you
- 28:05Speaker 2: guys will do a ton of stuff, but where can
- 28:07Speaker 2: people follow?
- 28:07Speaker 1: Where can they see all that and find all that?
- 28:09Speaker 3: We have our, yeah, on Texas football, a YouTube channel
- 28:12Speaker 3: on texasfootball.com. We have the watch with us. I think
- 28:15Speaker 3: I did 75, 80,000 views last week. We had a
- 28:18Speaker 3: ton of views on that. It was a lot of fun.
- 28:20Speaker 3: This week will be more because it's Ohio state and
- 28:22Speaker 3: Ohio state fans will be coming in to talk mess.
- 28:25Speaker 3: And if Texas is down, then the A & M
- 28:27Speaker 3: and Oklahoma fans are going to pile into the watch
- 28:29Speaker 3: with us. But, On Texas Football YouTube, we do a
- 28:32Speaker 3: live show from the co-op, which is the campus store
- 28:36Speaker 3: there Friday afternoon. We had Bo Masco's dad on. All
- 28:39Speaker 3: the parents come through there sometimes. We had Bo Masco's
- 28:42Speaker 3: dad on last Friday. I think we're going to have
- 28:44Speaker 3: a couple of fathers of players on this week. And
- 28:47Speaker 3: we have an event Saturday at Shields, a big sporting
- 28:50Speaker 3: event store there in Cedar Park at 10 a.m.
- 28:53Speaker 4: Our pregame show is there.
- 28:54Speaker 3: But on TexasFootball.com, come tell me why I'm wrong, and
- 28:58Speaker 3: I'd love to have the conversation with you.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Appreciate you, man. Should be fun. And we'll see you
- 29:02Speaker 1: next time, bud.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Thank you.
